Reviews (page 5 of 15)
A fantastic album. Always worth listening to.
Super album, real good numbers. Good hardrock..
I've known the first two songs off this album for a solid chunk of my life, so I'm curious to see what I think of the rest. There was this fainting familiarity with some of these other songs, but it doesn't matter too much because I know them now! Man, this album was awesome. Sure it was kind of generic but the riffs were nice, the music never got grating (something a lot of classic rock causes for me) and I was jamming most of the way through. I only wish this album was more prog-ish, because you can totally hear that in there with some of the songs, but it doesn't really go for that. Amazing album regardless.
Well this is pretty great. I didn't realize just about all of Boston's huge hits were on their debut album. Songs are all pretty great with impressive harmonies and great guitars. A couple of the songs are pretty cheesy (Rock & Roll Band) but even those have redeeming qualities. Didn't expect to give this 5 stars but here we are.
When I think “classic rock” this is definitely the album I would think of first. It’s not an album that I’ve gave that much attention to to be honest (literally until today I didn’t realise the boston spaceships were guitars), I’ve herd it 2 or 3 times before and I obviously know more than a feeling but other than that nothing really. But a lack of attention doesn’t mean it’s not absolutely amazing though it’s only 8 songs long (9 I guess if you count foreplay/long time as separate track) but that works in its favour as every track is practically perfect in every way, so rocking!!! A 5/5 for sure
fajne
Every one a banger! Hadn't heard for a long time, loving it :)
Perfect. Perfect lead vocals, harmonies, arena-ready guitar playing, mix, lyrics, peaks and valleys, it’s all here in this album. The acoustic guitar really contributes to this in this album. Like many, (but not all) debut albums, it’s hard to peat this one.
Classic. All bangers. 5 stars
Rock setentero. Vinilo.
Nice
This is still one of the catchiest rock albums ever. I remember discovering this one on my own around 1989 long after it was big but when heavy metal was at its height. This has all the guitars but with more melodies and harmonies. Just a great listen. A home run. Still 5 stars!
Amazing first album for any artist. I literally recognized every song.
This might be the most efficient album every, 36 minutes of straight banners
If I were to select something to represent what classic 70s rock sounds like it would be this. I was surprised just how well I knew this album without knowing I did. It's just sort of always been part of the fabric of society, I guess.
Great rock from the 70s!!
Yes!
This album is 70's guitar rock perfection. It is the foundational work on which my understanding and appreciation of this genre is built. Truly deserving of being on all the “best” lists. I had never read the history of how this album came to be. An incredible story that I'd love to see dramatized. I had not considered how such an artifact no doubt sprung from a perfectionist genius sneaking around in a dingy basement studio against the corporate overlords’ wishes. A real treat to spend today listening to Boston. Remarkable listening to this today knowing every note of every song and still being blown away by how great it is.
I haven't listened to this record since the 90's and it's a trip down memory lane. It sounds so good.
love this album! college daze! so amazing
Such great instrumentation, and Brad Delp's voice is unforgettable
Sono contento di ascoltare questo album! Credo di non averlo mai fatto completamente. 'More than a feeling' è meravigliosa. 'Hitch a ride' mi dà i brividi!
Rock setentero. Vinilo.
Great cover, amazing album! Such a great track list, such smooth guitars and melodies. The production is incredible, so many riffs are double tracked, and the solo at the end of hitch a ride has to be one of the best in history.
A classic. Start to finish it is amazing.
Excellent album, me replonge en enfance! Je l'ai écouté tant de fois.
altas medialugnas
Classic album, every track is good
wah
About fifteen years ago, a friend and I were walking home, quite drunk, after a night of youthful revels. Our conversation that evening was about The Perfect Album, and whether it existed. Our conclusion was that the closest thing in existence was the debut Boston album. As a classic rock album, it ticks every box - 'More Than a Feeling', 'Smokin'', 'Rock And Roll Band', 'Something About You' - all masterpieces of the genre. On top of that you've got the distinctive, skyscraper vocals of the late Brad Delp and the equally identifiable guitar tone of mastermind Tom Scholz. That's where the real mustard is - the appeal of this album is universal enough to sell oodles, but has so much fun and interesting noise that only Boston could conjure up. They flamed out pretty quickly, but their first album? A stone cold masterpiece.
Classic rock album start to finish.
Not bad. Few big hits.
Very darkness
This is a great album that I’m already familiar with. Absolute classic from start to finish. Extremely well-crafted and memorable performances. Particularly the vocals, guitars and synths.
Classic classic rock
Weird detail but here it is. Rock and Roll Band is my favourite song to play in Rock Band
Amazing, one of the best debut album's I've heard.
It’s Boston, we all know Boston
Wow. I loved every second of this album
4.6 - fantastic album. One hit after another. Great classic rock.
Maybe it’s cheesy boomer rock, but it’s just flawless. I’m constantly amazed at how FANTASTIC male singers were in the 70s and early 80s. NOBODY sings like this in popular music these days. I love guys who can sing crazy high and still sound like guys.
One of my favorite bands and favorite albums of all time!
Really great album, my Dad is big fan who introduced me to them so will always have fond memories hearing them. Honestly, what an opening track but listening to the whole thing in full is really nice experience :-)
This album is for me personally a five. Listened to it allot when i was younger so almost all songs on this album is a banger for me. So a biased five.
This is a perfect rock album, one of the truly great albums of the last 50 years and a strong candidate for best debut album ever. This is music made for blasting loudly out of car speakers on a summer day. The songs are catchy and a blast to listen to. What else do you need? Fave Songs (All songs, from most to least favorite): More Than a Feeling, Peace of Mind, Foreplay/Long Time, Something About You, Rock & Roll Band, Hitch a Ride, Smokin', Let Me Take You Home Tonight
Amanda loves this album. I haven't listened to it, or spent much time listening to Boston! But I'm loving it. Mr. Roy would play this album on vinyl in their garage, getting up to no good while Mrs. Roy gardened. I really enjoyed the vibe/era that the album evoked. It filled the living room nicely.
I loved this album as a kid and I still do. I remember the first time I heard More than a Feeling, I couldn't get it out of my head for days. The album sounds amazing and after I learn that Tom Scholz played and recorded all but the vocals in his basement how can you not give it 5 stars.
One of my all time favorites. I never tire of this record. The vocals, the distinctly Boston guitar sound, keyboards, everything about this is classic rock.
Pure classic rock. No misses on the album at all, some great guitar work, and catchy tunes that get stuck in your head. Great stuff.
First song recovnized from filling station more than à feeeeeling
More than a feeling / Peace of mind are the ones I remembered. Need to re-listen the rest to get a better idea. Still a great album.
Classic rock… love it !!!
Perfect album for Friday. No real comments needed. Welcome to the list Boston, we’ve been waiting for you. Perfect album for rocking, summer, the pool, really anything.
Man, what a classic. Basically the Bible for classic rock fans, it’s just front-to-back festival of summer bangers. Perfect for a 4th of July weekend in the pool, which is exactly when we got it. Hard to believe this is a debut, that this band came right out the gate with a sound so strong and resonant. Joey made a joke about all the songs sounding the same, and while he’s not entirely right, he’s not entirely wrong either. There’s a very uniform vibe to the whole thing, but it’s a vibe I’m on board with. Nostalgia and positivity, maybe even a little anti-capitalism. Love it. Favorite tracks: More than a Feeling, Peace of Mind, Foreplay Long Time, Hitch a Ride, Smokin. Album art: Also a classic, iconic cover for the classic rock era. Guitar spaceships? That’s what every rock band on Earth wanted to sound like at the time. Love the art and the colors, just unforgettable. 5/5
Great album that I've never listened to, but of course I've heard probably every song on the radio. Not sure I knew all these songs were Boston. Good shit 5/5
Bass lines out the wazoo. Every track could be someone else's career-defining single.
Just an absolutely perfect album.
Fantastic. Fun, great instrumentation, and the vocals to match. My first 5!
I love it when I think I know what the best song on an album is and I find one I like even better. Best track: Smokin'
5/5 all songs are great. Bangers: More than a feeling, rock and roll band, SMOKIN'
The album's a bit top-heavy, but that's really just due to how GREAT the first three or four tracks are
Not a single miss on this album, great stuff
This album feels like the definition of 'classic rock', which is not a bad thing. It kicks serious ass. The album's first few tracks are staples of classic rock radio, and for good reason - outstanding musicianship, infectious melodies, and great lyrics all contribute to the staying power of songs like 'More Than a Feeling' or 'Foreplay/Long Time'. While those may be the highlights, the whole album is excellent and worth multiple listens.
5/5 non stop bangers. even the low points of the album are 4/5. really driving rhythms
I don't know how anyone could dislike this one. Just feel good rock!
Great rock album, catchy as hell songs
Holy shit what a debut album. This is straight classic rock with the makings of early yacht rock. 5 STARS
Easiest 5 stars yet
Classic. Such an easy listen. Bangers from start to finish. One of my favorites.
I'm sure there are some out there who haven't heard this album. I don't know where they live but it would/will be fascinating to hear their reactions. Does classic/legendary status come from non-stop aural bombardment over many years? Or is greatness inherent in a work from the start? There has to be some gradient in there. It's an interesting exercise - this rating/critiquing of albums. There is no subjectivity, ever - whether you're hearing an album for the first time or for the 500th time. Even though I haven't explicitly listened to this album in...decades(?) I could and likely will be able to sing/hum every single riff. I'd bet that 500 figure I cited might be a conservative one. If you're of a certain age, and even if you didn't own this record (yeah i said record and meant it) there's no way you haven't heard many or *all* of these songs on the radio, in a ballpark, in someone's car hundreds of times. Literally. So it's easy to dismiss on one front - there was a point where I was convinced that I never EVER wanted to hear any of these songs again; enough already. That personal sentiment lasted for years. I still will roll my eyes hearing one of them on a car radio. But. Say what you want about Boston yet they quite literally were the Ultimate Garage Band - Tom Scholz writing/recording *everything* in his Watertown, MA basement. Pure genius on so many fronts. It's not his "fault" that the songs were an absolutely perfect blend of rock and melody - every single one - plus it sounded huge yet personal and gorgeous and it struck the right nerve and sold approximately 30 kabillion copies. Ok "fault" is the wrong word here, but you have to at least try to separate the art from the commerce. In what amounts to a greatest hits album (Truly: every song has either been a 40+ year old hit and/or is still occasionally played on classic rock radio stations) "Foreplay/Long Time" stands out as the winner here. Favourite moment on the album is at ~6:19 - that high guitar note... yes. *chef's kiss* Even though I still won't voluntarily put this on much anymore due to changing tastes and undying/occasionally tiresome familiarity, there's no denying the impact this album *still* has and the quality of the songs within. Can I say it's the perfect 70s rock album even if it's not a favourite anymore? I think I can. 10/10 5 stars.
One of my favorite albums of all time. So goooooooood
Perfect.
Quite iconic.
Love this album. Perfect example of classic rock. This album could be a greatest hits collection. Creative song writing, amazing musicianship, catchy everything. The only disappointing thing about this album is the lack of accents.
This is so rad
I Think From Now On I'll Talk About The Book When I Finish Chapters. And The Album Is 3a4im, I Was Raised To That Intro Without Knowing About The Album Or The Band
One of my favorite albums of all time. Every song is amazing, but the first five are just beyond stellar.
A classic
A classic.
Animado.
Another perfect debut album.
Aaah, I fucking LOVE Boston. I am a sucker for guitar ANYWAY, but add all of the exciting (at the time) new tech to their sound and it's just on another level. As a band they have a very enjoyable emotive ability. I wouldn't objectively rank them above most of the other five-star albums on this list, but shit, the enjoyability is undeniable. This is full of air-guitar-in-the-car jams. Fave track is a predictable choice: More Than a Feeling. This shit fucking SLAPS. Deeply underrated karaoke song.
Classic
Probably listened to this one a thousand times. Put on the vinyl for another listen to rate it... WOW, an absolutely flawless album. Pretty much the definition of classic rock, with a unique signature sound. Beautifully produced and just sweet sounding on the ears. Takes me back to hot summer days at the river, smokin and tokin...Add on the awesome album art, just doesn't get any better than this for me.
So good
I knew all the songs on the album, without having listened to it before. That's how good it is!
Classic Rock Perfection
Fantastic album.
Fun classic rock album. Great for cruisin’!
Ifhem, aħjar minn Festen jew x'illalla jisimhom.
all hits in one album classic
💗
Absolutely banging top-notch album. I always forget what a banger this one is, but it is something truly special.
Love it
If someone asked me what classic rock was I'd stick on this record. Doesn't miss a beat from start to finish. The guitars, melodies and harmonies are on point throughout and the songwriting is exceptional. 5/5
I think this is the most successful debut album ever. Legendary, iconic, packed full of timeless hits, epic guitar playing, epic bass and drum playing, incredible singing, prog rock, classic rock, arena rock, it’s difficult to see what you could conceive of to count against this, seems to cover all the bases of rock n roll and more, easy 5 stars.
Easy 5 and I'm not ashamed to say it.
Love the album. Great start, but still enjoy the back half.
This was a junior high staple in my hometown (and everywhere in the USA). Every song is now in classic rock regular rotation, and deservedly so. Catchy, poppy, rock n roll with easy melodys, memorable choruses and good guitar riffs. Even though it’s not my go to music, I can’t justify less than five stars here. Doesn’t get much more classic 70s pop rock than this. “That album cover is so fricken’ cool” - friend Brad…
Songs: Peace of Mind, Foreplay / Long Time, Rock and Roll Band, Smokin'
A whole album of straight bangers.
It feels cringe to give it 5, but it truly does stand on its own as one of the best of its era and of debut albums.
Oh man....this is still in my topb10. This is a perfect album!
Great album - 8 tracks, and all 8 get regular classic rock play. Defined 70's hard rock sound, with classical touches. "Peace of Mind" would make a good punk cover by Bad Religion.
This is what an excellent classic rock album should be. It's a was a fun to listen to, great guitar work, solid debut album. If you like the genre you'll enjoy it!
Banger after banger
A hard rock classic. This album has been on my regular listening cycle for 40+ years.
just great, full of absolute bangers
Cracking album. Generally good tracks with some great hits thrown in there. Would pay decent money to buy if I came across it - Great 80s rock and (possibly?) my favourite album of the ones I've rated so far A solid 4.5 from me
Amazing A-side. Truly top notch. B-side doesn't disappoint.
Great memories. Great album
i’ve loved this album for ages, makes me very nostalgic bc i grew up listening to it with my parents a lot
Great album
Lots of classics. I feel like I’ve heard all these songs before even if I didn’t necessarily know who the band was when I heard them.
Fantastic!
Fantastic album, it put me in a great mood
cool
So many bangers. Peace of Mind. Smokin’.....
Classic but every song sounds the same
Classic album by a classic band
Every song is a hit that stands up today. Didn't understand that this is a near perfect pop rock album as I've heard all of these songs for years on radio.
Great band and this album is almost a greatest hits. Thinking about this great MIT grad Tom Scholz makes me wonder how Yichao is doing... I hope well
5
Muy bueno, rock y temazos
Had the cassette. Perfect for the drive from Ft Worth to Dallas and back. Played air guitar the entire way to the Cotton Bowl.
Classic rock, great album.
Loved it !!
Bom demais meu deus. E a página da wikipedia vale a pena ler.

I have generally held to the view that there is only ONE Boston song. You roll it out on the tray, cut it into different shapes, and there’s an album: but ultimately it’s all the same stuff. But as much as I’d like to downgrade the album, I have to admit it’s a pretty enjoyable listen. I mean, it’s hard not to do at least a LITTLE air guitar or drumming. And I’m thinking to myself, this album came out in 1976 and nearly every single song has been played on rock stations for 50 years straight. Pretty remarkable. By the way, I grew up in the 70s which could be influencing me here. As much as I prefer punk, new wave, and alternative, it might be that there’s a “disowned” classic rocker inside me that needs to get out once in a while. So I’m going with 4/5. Even that could be considered a downgrade for the 5/5ers out there but for me that’s higher than I planned to go for something so crisp, shiny, and harmless.
Very recognizable first song.
Super.
One of the first albums on vinyl I ever owned. This is cheap beer music. Sometimes it just hits the spot.
I liked this A LOT - a lot more than I expected !!! hell yeah !!!!!
buen ritmo
4.5/5 glorified radio rock can’t get better
Lost my virginity to this record in 1976. We were parked in the school parking lot of Saint John’s Ravenscourt in Winnipeg Manitoba. She was 18 and I had just turned 16. So, to say that this record was life changing is not an understatement. I’m pretty sure that we were way past More Than A Feeling and probably, I kid you not, arriving at Long Time when I had rounded 3rd and was sliding into home. I think we had Peace of Mind when I finally said Let Me Take You Home Tonight. Anyway, this record carried me through high school and got a number of spins until I graduated from high school. 4/5
It’s so cheesy and generic… but there’s a reason that this kind of sound became generic. This album in particular is one of the best of the albums that all sound just like this. I have to give it its flowers.
Heard Many Times Before; 4; In some ways, this album reminds me of The Cars self-titled debut that I just got as part of this project. This album is full of songs that you'd think came from a greatest hits album, but they are all from the band's debut. At the same time, this music feels like the "opposite" of the Cars, in that these are full sounding songs with the same basic instruments on every song. But it's all done really well and in a catchy way. The harmonies are great, and the guitars are powerful and solos not-overdone. It's a little challenging to separate this album from how many times it's been played and how that can make it sound cliche, but taking it on its own merits, it's a really well done album and incredibly fun/easy to listen to. Favorite Track: More Than A Feeling
Damn this album is tight. Harmonies, composition, lyrics. Total pros. More Than a Feeling Peace of Mind
Foreplay/Long Time gives this an extra star
Definitely a sound. Fun to listen to once every dozen years or so.
86/100 “Yeah dude check out this rock album me and the boys threw together in my basement. Formal music training? No clue what that is twin. Just hold my beer.” What an interesting album to just come out of thin air and be almost complete peak through and through. It was made by Tom Scholz who is the guy I mentioned in that dumb fake quote up there. After being a rock fan during college he decided to just write some songs then built his own studio to record them. This guy worked for Polaroid like imagine the guy who makes your cameras in your factory going from doing that to having one of the fastest selling debut rock albums of all time. Imagine being his manager that would be crazy you would probably go from thinking the guy is under you to seeing him as a god. Anyways it’s really good rock music. Usually I don’t dig these classic rock albums, Led Zeppelin IV being a good example. I only liked a couple songs off of that album despite everyone else thinking it’s like the greatest thing ever made. This album fucks though it cuts its great. I guess this is kind of an inspiration to all the lofi artists out there though. This album was pretty much all done at home, similar to Tod Rundgren’s early 70s albums. Big inspirational shit here just good classic rock the solos are great the lyrics are good at least compared to usual rock lyrics and yeah just listen to it bro.
20260627 Top. Auf Vinyl nachkaufen
Bueno y clásico
Amazing album albiet a bit front loaded.
I, too, recognize these songs as the most cliched classic rock radio hits and know it's not my station when they come up. However, they're basically the bedrock foundation of that genre because they absolutely DO NOT SUCK. Their imitators and followers may, but these are just plain monster rock songs. The first three tracks all belong in the pantheon, and the rest, well the second half does kinda lag after "Long Time," but they're still solid tunes. It can't not be included in the top 1000 albums, but really I don't love it. The first three, I'm forced to, the rest I'm probably skipping. 4/5
A pretty fantastic classic rock album. A Boston song to me is almost like a Beach Boys song - it feels like a musical math problem. Every instrument fits in perfectly into the equation, doing exactly what they need to, sounding flawless, all adding up to this super sharp music! It’s fun, it’s a good length. What more could you want?
Just some good old catchy dad rock. More than a Feeling will always be a mandatory singalong.
Starts great but each song I like a little less than the rest.
Good fun. Consistent.
Definitely a unique sound for its time. I feel like a ton of bands replicated it after the fact so it sounds pretty standard to me. The piano usage was pretty unique sounding with the guitar
Love this pop prog American rock perfect ion
People from Boston hate whenever anyone else from Boston thinks they're special. I think this accounts for why we've never really embraced Matt Damon and Ben Affleck (theah really from Cambridge dood, fucking lib homos), or that guy from The Office (Newton), and why they won't ever reference Bill Simmons on local sports radio. So when a band calls itself Boston because the main guy went to MIT, they're gonna get a lot of disdain from Bostonians. I think this is where Sean is coming from. Even though I too wanted to hate this album for these same vague and unfair reasons, when I listened to More than a Feeling I couldn't stop myself from singing along and nodding my head. Is it because I am more enlightened and advanced than these provincial cretins I've spent my life around? Yes. I think so.
One of the best opening songs from an album, and just spectacular from start to finish, fun to sing for sure, and hard not to love.
Haven't heard peace of mind in a few years and I forgot just how much I liked that song. Basically, the band is known for the first three songs on their debut album and not much else. Always was a cool album cover but the band isn't that much else (one other hit in the 80s.) Overall, a nice quick album that I enjoyed.
fantastic ensemble ("ensemble") playing, great vocal range and presentation, and some really excellent arrangement for the genre. overall texture does trend towards the same thing, particularly on the back half.
Preference - 2 Musicianship - 1 Legacy - 1 Total - 4
Banger
I don't know if I could name another album where I knew every song on an album before ever hearing the album in full. If you listened to classic rock radio in the 80s and 90s, there's 100% you heard every single song here, which is a pretty impressive feat. I'm tempted to go 5 for that reason, but at the same time, I don't love any of these songs -- they're just all really good. So, I'm going with 4.5. "Something About You" is probably my favorite track.
Cheesy cool 70s AOR and one of the chief cheesy forerunners of AOR as a genre with this genre-defining AOR debut of theirs, from this here cheesy cool 70s AOR band even if it is mainly the work of one cheesy cool AOR person Tom Scholz. There are some mighty timeless cheesy classic rock pearls for sure with More Than A Feeling and the sprawling kickass epic Foreplay/Long Time. Overall it’s pretty smashing but not a true firm favourite from start to finish. It would be higher in my list if the band changed their name to Badger, had a giant space badger on the cover instead of a guitarship and if all the tracks were called More Than A Badger, Badger Foreplay/Long Badger Time, Rock & Roll Badger, Hitch A Badger, Something About Badger etc.
Boston, I had no idea of your game with this album. Seriously y'all every song is solid and I now understand why they were played on the radio like they were. I also thought the songs from this album were from several different albums. It's a greatest hits disguised as a regular release. Boston the next road trip I'm taking this album will be played, probably when I get pulled over...
Great 70ies Rock Very different pieces in the album. Dynamic rhythms and voices A bit too electric guitary for me. I like the new synthesiser parts, that makes an important part of the album. Favorite piece: Foreplay/ Long time
(75/100)
Légendaire premier album, peak american rock Playlist pick : More Than a Feeling
Listened previously. Expectations: High - Verdict: Near Perfect - More Than A Feeling is on of THE rock anthems. Simply monumental. Peace Of Mid is another stunner. Foreplay/Long Time closes out the first side on a strong note. The second side can't quite match the first but it's a great collection of tunes with not a bad track among them.
the dad rock vibes just ooze out of this one.
Rating: 4/5 Playlist track: More Than a Feeling Date listened: 8/06/26 Listen when: Roadtrip!!! (Preferably though western USA) Guitar is immaculate throughout. Sooo Dad rock core. I really do have to be in a certain mood for it before it becomes too much.
Proste, fajne. Na 4
Liked it sorta
Almost a 5 star album. The first 5 tracks are hits! Piece of Mind, Smokin' and More Than A Feeling are such jams.
It's plastic American cheese, but it's good plastic American cheese. The kind that you probably wouldn't go out of your way to buy, but if it was on a sandwich from your local cafe, you wouldn't mind too much. I do need to be in the right mood for this, but when it hits, it hits.
8 / 10
This is like watching someone doing something on the edge of their abilities but with extreme confidence. Just a well rounded album with some heavy hitters. Almost makes me feel like I should buy a motorcycle or at least a convertible.
Hmmm yes quite intresting yes yes hmmm
All bangers not a single track you wanna skip peak album
J'ai adoré !!
Vinyl. Songs sounded a lil same but it’s chill
Really rock and roll, a little bit too short
This is an alright album. I've heard quite a few of these songs before. I don't have any real complaints.
Did not expect this album to kick as much ass as it does. I was familiar with more than a feeling but goddamn the rest of the album slaps as well. Definitely feels a little front loaded on first listen, but I will absolutely be coming back to this. Feels like a warm summer evening. Fav track is foreplay/long time
Very good. I didn't like some of the songs as much as I liked the others though.
Despite the fact the songs are still overplayed on classic rock radio, this darn album is one banger after another
CLASSIC MOTHER FUCKIN' ROCK
Okay, fine. This was a pretty solid album. I’d def think it would’ve been a fun show to go to back in their day. I did like that the keyboards sounded kinda spacey and their logo is the spaceship.
I thought it was going to be impossible to keep the energy of More Than a Feeling to for the entire album but they did it.
7.5/10
I knew the big hits which are here, but it’s the lesser known songs that really shine for me. Really enjoyed getting to know them and it made the whole album a great listening experience
Very excellent
An excellent album about how awesome it is to be in a rock band and also famous. I wonder who heard this and went "wow, let's do it" and then financially ruined themselves? *Side eyes Pulp*
It's fascinating to see what a vast variety of music was coming out of America in 1976. Ramones, Parliament, Hotel California, ZZ Top... And this appeared. I will admit to having only heard "More than a feeling" before, but it's clear why this AOR staple gained its fame. Every last second of their music into a gleam worthy of a freshly waxed muscle car. Every last processed guitar riff and sci-fi synth swoop was meticulously placed,
Had good energy throughout, plus the classics I heard on the radio as a kid
Pretty great album, even if it is a bit cheesy! Great guitar playing, especially on Foreplay. The last 3 songs are pretty forgettable in comparison to the others. 8/10
Onnnnnn hyvä
A classic rock album recorded to perfection
some solid entries here for one of my personal favourite music categories: dad rock you can shake some ass to
it's such a short but great album that i have nothing bad to say. Not only it has classic songs, the others are pretty good. maybe the lyrics of some of them, but i wasn't expecting anything else
nice 80's music
70's rock classic
Really like that they just went for a them with their album covers and ran with it. Great album, really like the general sound and some bangers on here. More than a feeling is a real advert song but j still enjoy it. Specific rating - 4.3 Fav song - more than a feeling Least fav - foreplay/ long time
Classic rock album. Lots of major big songs on here. I remember buying this CD for my dad when I was young.
It's an iconic sound, and some of the radio hits that I feel translate the best to actually being good in my opinion. I still don't really like the second half of the album, but I'm forgiving it in this case due to the sheer start power and the fact that it's not exactly lazy, just too much Boston.
Favourite: "Peace of Mind" and "More Than A Feeling" (obviously)
I find stings vocals too whiny at times. A solid album with solid music but a lot of the time I find it just sounding too similar with an overlay of whine.
again I remember getting this one the day it was launched.. still sounds good to me
Overplay on every possible classic rock station has tried to kill this album many times over, but if you ignore that, it’s actually a very solid listen
Puro verano, puro retro, muy fresquito
Groupe inconnu. =>4/5
it was very good 4. lot of good memories with these songs
First 5 songs are all absolute classics. An all time run to start an album and career. Last three tracks are less recognizable and I can do without all of em.
This is a fantastic album that stays out of the 5-star club only because of my personal taste.
Some absolutely classic songs on here. One's that would likely make your dad run in the room if he overheard them. Namely, "More Than A Feeling", "Peace Of Mind" and "Foreplay / Long Time" are all songs that defined an era of rock music. There's a bit of falloff in the second half of the album, especially on the last track "Let Me Take You Home Tonight", which i don't think is necessarily bad, but just pales in comparison to the rest.
people can hate on these guys but I think they rocked fairly hard. This being their best album for sure
Bweeeeee deedle deeeeee deee deeeebweedle deeeee beedle dee dweeeeee (complimentary)
Wild that this was a debut album made in a dudes basement. It sounds so good
I've never been all that into Boston, but this is nevertheless some classic American rock.
Classic rock lovely guitars what’s not to like….
The Corporate Rock Radio has made me LOVE Boston. I have never seeked out a Boston song on my own but yet I am very familiar with the vast majority of the album. Is familiar good? Just because I can sing along to the song, does that mean that I like it? OR These songs have been beaten to death like the dead horse that they are. It's a puddle, by now. 4
I listened to this album on my drive to work, feeling incredibly sore and stiff for no good reason. Damn, what an insane first impression to make as a band! Starting this album with More Than A Feeling sets perhaps an unfair bar of nostalgia, though the band does their damnedest to meet it with a full album of classic hard arena rock at its finest This is an album which sound exactly like the cover art: Boston is delivering a sound so loud and overpowering that it fractures the very Earth. This album reminds me of KISS' songwriting approach, in that a few songs sound almost exactly the same, but it doesn't really matter because they still rock. I ended up knowing so much more of this album than I realized too, with Peace of Mind and Smokin' i particulr immediately jogging my memory. The recognizability of some of these songs might actually have been working against the rest of the album, as it struggled to live up to songs which have held a deep nostalgic place in my heart for years. Sometimes, music just rocks, and that's enough. Highlights: More Than a Feeling, Peace of Mind, Rock & Roll Band, Smokin', Something About You, Let Me Take You Home Tonight
Enjoyed this. A lot of fun. It's got a huge hit, I love the warm production with all the acoustic guitars and the cover art is cool.
Listened to on my Apple AirPods Max. It can be surprising to have an album establish it’s legendary status within the first track, but I believe Boston’s self titled debut does just that with ‘More than a Feeling’, a classic rock anthem for the ages. There is something truly enchanting about this track, with it’s blend of smooth acoustic driven verses backing the explosive distorted choruses with lyrics that capture so earnestly, and poetically, the one that got away. Many albums use the first track as the onboarding to the album, a taster for what’s to come without really divulging the goods. Boston—in their total confidence—make the first track one of the most legendary rock song ever, then to be followed up by a string of truly excellent companions in ‘Peace of Mind’ and ‘Foreplay/Long Time’. Although I really do love ‘More than a Feeling’, ‘Peace of Mind’ is my personal favorite on the album. It’s a song I’ve heard dozens of times over the years, and one I play regularly on guitar. This one is faster and more upbeat, but maintains the earnest lyricism, this time about individuality in the face of an America who began to derive identity and validation from their job rather than personal growth, an idea that has only become more prevalent today. ‘Foreplay/Long Time’ sounds like a more appropriate album opener, at least in a conventional sense, due to it’s extended instrumental intro led by some excellent organ work, before jumping into ‘Long Time’ with it’s catchy chorus that leaves Boston at 3/3 right out of the gate on classic rock essentials. The album continues to deliver some great tunes, especially the smooth ‘Hitch a Ride’, but this is where the album drops from that legendary status held by the ridiculous trio of songs it starts with. Hardly a strong mark against it, however—it’s always gonna be hard to follow that act up for a whole album length. Mostly, it’s the songs ‘Rock and Roll Band’ and ‘Something About You’ that don’t grip me as much as the rest of the album, feeling noticeably weaker to me than everything. Although there is the shining talent of Tom Sholz, who composed much of the instrumentation and lyrics, and the ripping voice of Brad Delp, who can really belt out these tunes, I can’t help but feel that there is a bit of a limit felt in this album. It doesn’t affect the album too much, but there are moments where songs sound a bit similar to each other, or fit a little too cleanly in the established sensibilities of rock at the time. Still, there isn’t enough negatives to terribly impact the effort and achievement found on this album. It has some legendary tracks, great performance, especially in Brad Delp’s vocals, and is a great listen.

a lifetime supernatural obsession prepared me for this moment
It was coo, very oldies
Good example of mid-70’s rock n’roll. Very good debut album. Great guitar refs and use of distortion pedals, driving bass and drum beats.
not as good as Joni Mitchell’s Blue
Great Album! More than a feeling is the standout for me on this album, but everything else is solid too.
This is kind of a perfect album. I’m just the wrong audience generationally
Actually surprisingly good, also beyond the opening track. Songs are varied and strong.
Great album with a mix of elements of rock and jazz
Legendary debut album, nothing sounded quite like this in 1976. If you haven't heard it you should.
Really makes me nostalgic for the Rock Band games.
Larry Bird
Listened to it twice. Honestly great, feels unpretentious and fun. Would slap on guitar hero
Low 4 stars. Big classic rock fan, but honestly came in not super excited because I’ve heard these songs a million times. However, relistening to the album as a whole reminded me about all the bangers on this thing. The first half of the album is great, but I felt that the second half was not as consistent. However, some of the songs from the second half have grown on me upon a few listens, and so I felt comfortable bumping this from a 3 to 4 star album. Historic debut album, but I just felt like some of the songs brought it down for me due to boring progression and themes. Great album nonetheless.
Well, this massively exceeded expectations. I thought this would be another example of an album dropping off after starting with the big hit, but it's packed full of bangers. I do think side one is better than side 2, but on the whole, this is a cracker
Not really my jam but I do recognize the impact of the album!
Album de rock vraiment trop fun ! Instru, voix et solo de guitare exceptionnel ! J'ai adoré ! Note : 4 À réécouter : Oui
Haven’t heard this yet! Oh yes I have! This was my dad’s sunny day/ house cleaning album when I was a little kid. He also put it on to keep me quiet, cause the musical transitions at the beginning of the album endlessly fascinated me. I can’t separate my feelings about this album from deep nostalgia. Wow. It gets 4 stars for sure. It’s uneven, but wow. What a trip.
It's ok.
sold album
A classic rock classic.
Classic album, cover to cover. My older brothers has this on 8 track tape. Lots of good memories listening to it.
Solid classic rock. Knew most of these before listening. Definitely nostalgic
I had only ever heard of the opening track, 'More Than a Feeling', so I was curious as to how the rest of this album would live up to such a well-known, successful track, if that was even possible. It very quickly became clear that this wasn't just a 'one-hit-wonder' situation. Every one of these tracks hit very well in their own respective way. This is a very classic 1970's rock sound, and it works incredibly well. The vocals are really great, and are well-supported by the instrumentation. I particularly, within instrumentation, enjoyed the guitar solo at the end of 'Hitch a Ride'. Favourites (in order): Something About You More Than a Feeling Foreplay / Long Time
First half of the album is top class. Second half drops off considerably
very upbeat, in such a different way compared to most other albums with this level of rock
I liked this a lot!! And more than a feeling is a classic
I don't count myself as a Boston fan and I don't think I have heard this album before. But I knew every song. Classic rock.
I mean, what better way could you kick off a band's career than with More Than a Feeling as the opening track. Impressive recording, great songwriting.
This is such a fun album! I really like their rock sound, it kind of reminds me of Queen's less popular stuff if they were American.
Would buy
Very fun album. Long time I didn't listen to it. Yes, nowadays I guess you'd call it "dad rock" and this is the prime example of it. But you know what? It's great fun and it doesn't overstay its welcome at all. Also, "Smokin'" brought me back to my GTA San Andreas days and it's just a great track to drive to.
Awesome album
White Nike Air Monarch IVs as far as the eye can see... or maybe being from Boston, we're dealing more with an army of white New Balance 608s?
How does one NOT love a little Boston.
I'm not supposed to like this but there are some moments on this record that scratch a certain itch.
One of the most boomer-rockiest albums I've ever heard. It's practically a perfect cliché. Damn if it doesn't sound good though. Faves: More Than a Feeling, Peace of Mind, Rock & Roll Band
Cool album, one extra star for the More-than-a-feeling Riff!
Fun dad rock
⭐⭐⭐⭐- Peak soft-rock/dad-rock. Bäst är More than a Feeling, Peace of mind och Foreplay/Long time
Is this what dad rock sounds like? Then, I'm a dad - I think. Great record, well produced. Amazing!
The production on this album is great.
4.25. Just a solid classic rock album. Didn’t realize all of these classic rock radio staples were on the same album.
4.25 - I don't consider myself a Boston fan, but these songs are pretty epic. The vocals and riffs are pretty great, even in the lesser known songs.
A phenomenal album. This is my go-to album for explaining bands who have a killer 1st album and then fall off afterwards. Super solid front to back. Extremely overshadows the rest of Boston's catelog.
Yes already heard and familiar with this. Own it on vinyl
I feel like a few of the songs sound basically exactly the same, but I still really enjoyed the album as a whole. I did enjoy a lot of the songs, and I can bop around to this one for sure.
The greatest basement tape ever made?
7.5/10
(V) Such an amazing record, and it almost never happened
Never had a full listen, but this one is packed with bangers - pretty solid, though not the genre i enjoy
mola. chill alegre ou yea🤟
My drive to Cal Poly music which is interesting because I drove there yesterday! 4/5 #musicsky #albumsky
This feels like peak dad rock. Again typically this is not my favorite type of music (rock in general I’ve found hard to truly enjoy in a non nostalgic focused way) but this is one of those albums that start to finish really nails it in a great way.
A phenomenal debut
Sweeeeet guitars. Catchy tunes. Fav song: More Than a Feeling
More Than a Feeling - 5/5 Peace of Mind - 4.5/5 Foreplay / Long Time - 4/5 Rock & Roll Band - 4/5 Smokin' - 4.5/5 Hitch a Ride - 4/5 Something About You - 4/5 Let Me Take You Home Tonight - 3.5/5
Banger after banger. Hard to believe one album could so clearly capture a band's sonic fingerprint while also producing insanely classic hits. If the music were just slightly more to my actual taste this would be a 5 for sure.
Pretty solid rock album. Obviously a bit overplayed for nostalgia bait in movies sometimes but that never makes a song bad.
Good arena power rock album with some great songs. Only 8 songs, but a few are repetitive
1. Heard it before, on my playlist. Classic 2. Fun! 3. This makes me feel like a white woman on a yatch! I love it! 4. Eh 5. Sounds like the song Marty McFly played in back to the future. 6. Sounds like the beach boys 7. Eh 8. Fun! Rating: 7/10 Very 80s rock album, they love a good guitar solo
Almost every song has been on the radio. Classic rock for sure.
100% a driving album. It's not bad, a bit cheesy, a bit rocky, bit of fun.
I forgot how good this album was. Perhaps one of the best openings I've heard for album. I was bobbing my head through the whole thing. I haven't given this album a good listen in 20 years, but it'll be in my regular rotation again.
I love that good feeling of neverending summer and heat.
