USA ROCKS

A banger start to finish, and a must have if your collection needs a transformative 70's album. And really, who's doesn't!?

Finally, after an endless streak of boring indie records, I get this. Easily one of the best produced albums ever, easy 5 stars. I bet I am an opposite from all those kids rating their indie rubbish high and probably hating this.

Fantastic album

My jam. Great tip tip to tail album.

I've heard many Boston songs but never really listened. They have just been in the background throughout my life. But what an impressive album! Extremely fun to listen to

Man, I’m exhausted, but I threw this on and suddenly I’m air-guitaring in my socks. Every song’s a banger, especially More Than a Feeling. It’s like caffeine for the soul. No skips, just vibes. Classic rock perfection. Now I can sleep happy.

Pure classic rock bliss

Probably the greatest debut album of all time, and one of that is dear to my heart. I can sing along to every song on this album. It will always be one of my favourites. 10/10

A most excellent album all the way through. Definitely belongs on this list!

Boston is the zenith of pop rock. Obviously this album is not as well know in the UK as the US where I understand it was played to death on the radio and is still, even nowadays, being flogged like a dead horse. I hadn’t listened to it in full for years and so it was lovely to reacquaint myself with its brilliance. Every track is a cracker, maybe save for the last track which is just a sparkler. But as a whole I still love this album. Obvious 5

Is this the best of this kind of rock?

Repeat listen

Incrível

The energy is high on this album. A lot of fun was had with it. More than a Feelin holds up but is far from the only gem on this.

Favorite tracks: Peace of Mind, More Than a Feeling Holy cow am I kicking myself for not listening to this album in its entirety before now. Sweet guitar riffs, great harmonies, just a total powerhouse all around. I'm in awe that this is their first album and it was entirely played by one person. Not the deepest or most meaningful lyrics but boy is it a fun listen!

Banger after banger gostupidgocrazy

Perfect soundtrack for cruising in your camero with the T tops off...glorious mullet flowing in the wind. We all know the songs, we all sing along to the chorus. Perfect example of 70s classic rock.

Listens: 3 Standout Tracks: More Than a Feeling, Peace of Mind, Foreplay/Long Time How can even begin to dislike a band formed in and named after the city I live in? The answer is I can't. Fortunately, though, I enjoyed this enough that I don't have to give it a bad review. No; Actually, I didn't just "enjoy" it - this album rocks. Good hooks, catchy, iconic instrumentals, and great singing. Classic "Dad's Garage" rock. This album is short; I keep thinking about some other reviewer on another album, where he or she said the LP Vinyl keeping (read: forcing) albums to be between 25 and 50 minutes usually makes for an amazing body of work, because the artist needs to be selective about what will make the cut, and because it makes the album highly consumable. Some of the albums on the List have runtimes between 1 and 2 hours, and it just becomes a slog to get through them. This album doesn't overstay it's welcome. It comes on, rocks out and then fades out in a cool 37 minutes.

“i love dad rock!” — a 22 year-old child-free woman

Great album absolute bangers throughout

Honestly might be one of the best top to bottom rock albums from the 1970s. Every song is catchy and hits hard. Full of hits that are still played on classic rock stations to this day. Every song here is great, and I wouldn't be able to pick a least favorite. I didn't realize how many of Boston's hits, which I love, came from this album. I also have a soft spot for "Foreplay/Long Time" from playing it in Rock Band with my best friend all the time when we were in our early 20s. I might have finger memory of some of the bass lines still.

This is one of the greatest albums of all time, in my opinion.

This was beautiful! I've never heard anything from Boston other than More Than A Feeling, I loved it all :)

All bangers. Five stars.

OUTSTANDING! Better with age!

Wow every song!

Top10 all time favourite

Excuse me Boston, but I was not familiar with your game! I had no idea what to expect after "More than a Feeling" but what I got was non-stop, high quality, high energy, rock and roll. If I would dock it anything its that some of the songs can sound kind of samey. If I could give it 4.5/5 I would but as it stands I have no issue giving it a full 5/5

This is an album that was just part of life as a teenage male in the 1970s and early 80s. These songs were everywhere. And often, we played them ourselves, very, very loudly. Great voice (RIP Brad Delp) and great guitar sound (thank you Tom Scholz) that made Somme great songs. Holds up ok, honestly, haven’t given the whole thing a listen in a very, very long time.

Great debut. One of the best 70's albums and really just works. Just about every song is great, but my favorites are Rock and Roll Band and Peace of Mind

side one is incredible, side two is pretty good too.

Back when Albums and 8-tracks were king and there's not a bad track on the whole thing. Hard to not give it top marks, though it has been degraded by time and overplay on the radio. My most specific memory of this album in play was in 1983, in my best-friend's, older-brother's car after a light and warm rain, sliding around on the roads listening to this and him wishing in a loud yell over the lyrics that there was a Quadraphonic version for him to buy, which I don't believe ever came out in any format. I was rocking my Judas Priest Screaming for Vengeance tee shirt and feeling like I was at least adjacent to being one of the cool kids, maybe on the verge of it.

Boston's first and best album. It's about as close to all killer and no-filler as you can get. Unfortunately this album is a victim of it's own success. Most of the songs are "classic" rock station staples and played ad nauseam. Listener fatigue is real. I mean, how many times can you hear More than a Feeling or Smokin' before you want to rip your hair out? And I like both of those songs. This is an incredible album.

A road trip album for sure.

If Boston by Boston had a UPS tracking number, it would show as DELIVERED. While the album is front heavy, even its lower tier songs on the backend were still strong.

Unexpected 5 for me. I would have guessed a 3 in advance. I've heard almost all these songs and they tend to fade into the background. This time I actually paid attention and have been surprised.

Solid album.

Absolute master class. Dare I say, the greatest debut album ever.

Listened Before? Y One of the best front-to-back pop rock albums of all time. It's a classic of its genre, and most americans know at least one song on this record. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Rock & Roll Band

Big arena-sized, commercialized, sidepipe-packing rock & roll isn’t exactly the way I personally like it, but there are always exceptions. I find that with the styles of music that don’t interest me or that I don’t quite get there’s often a proto version that I quite enjoy. It’s true about emo and metal for sure, and I think it’s kind of true about cock rock because I fucking love this Boston album, which I believe is something of a precursor to bands like Journey, Foreigner, and then all the 80s hair metal stuff. This debut smokes most others out there in both quality and quantity—or at least the ratio of good songs to bad. There may not be many tracks, but there are no bad ones. Every single song but one is an all-time radio classic, and the one (“Hitch a Ride”) that isn’t all over the classic rock stations is not dud. In fact, it’s just about as good as any other. It’s an all-time monster of an album, even if I’m not into super polished production, perfect instrumentation, and soaring high-note vocal climaxes.

Classic

Quintessential classic rock. Three bangers right off the bat. I learned they’re not in the rock and roll hall of fame yet. What’s up with that?

This is one of those rare albums where you can drop the needle on Side A and there's no song skips on either side. When I listened to it toda the last song played and it wrapped, so I listened to it again and was just as happy to hear it. It's just that good.

5/5 one of the GOAT albums for sure.

I can't think of another album, except maybe Rumours, where every single track is still in rotation on radio. It's a great album from beginning to end. It's also apparent that this album was influential in developing and establishing arena rock as an important subgenre for the next decade. I'm a bigger fan of other arena rock artists, but this gets a five because even its worst song is great.

Greatest debut album of all time. But how Foreplay/Longtime doesn't open this masterpiece will forever perplex me. 5

Classic rock gold.

knew more than a feeling before, glad to listen to rest

It's been a long time since I listened, but it really is a classic, one of a kind album. I will need to pull out my old vinyl and give it a listen.

I remember when this was released. Nothing like the sound. Stellar guitars and vocals.

Classic

Classic

Amazing album with amazing guitar work. Super upbeat

Incredible album. Is this the best debut album of any band ever?

Classic album Standout songs: Peace of mind Smokin'

Not just for dads!

No sense in pretending this iconic album isn't a 5/5. Any other rating is just someone kidding themselves. This album starts strong and stays strong to the end.

OK. I have never heard this classic album. Looking forward to it, as I know Boston influenced the Smashing Pumpkins and I’m sure many other bands of the 80s and 90s I grew up with. I’d like to know them beyond their karaoke staple status. When it came on after my alarm this morning, I thought: What a song for the opening track! Will I know all the others as intimately? I hope to uncover some gems entirely new to me. Well. This album f'n rawks. Just one stone cold classic after the next. Hell yeah, Chicago! I listened to it all day.

One of the best albums in the history of mankind.

Boston – Boston 5 STARS This is what perfection sounds like. Heavy rock fused with synchronised vocals, electronic riffs and poetic lyrics. Tom Scholz knew what he was doing, sitting in his home studio making music that raises your consciousness to another level. I prefer the song Don’t Look Back to More than a Feeling but this is the better album and one of my favourites of all time.

Oh yea pure greatness!

It's funny. I just watched an Instagram reel on first albums that may also have been a band's best album, and Boston was the first group listed. It's hard to argue with that. While they have a large catalog, the number of hits and well-loved songs on this first album is hard to replicate. Music from my birth decade -- I will always remember it fondly. It was a joy to listen to this album again, and I will return to it over and over.

Half of the album has filler and half the album has instant classics

5/5 - You need to hear this before you die because of the guitar tone of Tom Scholz. This is production perfection joined with great hooks and Brad Delp's voice. I've listened to this album hundreds of times, and it's a cornerstone of 70s classic rock.

Three words: Boston, 1976, Epic!

This just has too much star power not to give it a 5. It's stood the test of time and is one of the quintessential 70's arena rock album. 5/5

Boston – Boston (1976) | Arena Rock / Classic Rock | Avg: 9.38 | Favorite Song: “More Than a Feeling”* Boston is pure, distilled arena rock perfection. There’s no pretense here; it's just massive riffs, clean production, and hooks that refuse to leave your head. “More Than a Feeling” is the obvious standout, and for good reason—it’s not just a hit, it’s a blueprint. But what’s wild is how consistently strong the rest of the album is. Tracks like “Peace of Mind,” “Smokin’,” and “Hitch a Ride” aren’t just filler—they’re all anthems in their own right. Every song feels like it could’ve been a single. What makes this record so impressive is how effortless it sounds, even though it’s meticulously crafted. Tom Scholz’s multi-tracked guitars are crisp and layered without ever feeling bloated, and Brad Delp’s vocals bring the kind of range that elevates even the simplest choruses. The production was groundbreaking at the time, and it remains impressive today. This is one of those rare debut albums that doesn’t just introduce a band; it defines them immediately. If you’re into classic rock with maximum replay value and zero dead weight, this is a masterclass.

Wonderful debut album chock full of 70s AOR gems.

I learned two things about Boston from listening to this album: 1. I know a lot more Boston songs than I initially thought I did 2. This is a really good album I am also learning I like a lot of 60s/70s music from doing this challenge

Stunning. How many albums demonstrate the level of care in every facet - songwriting, arrangement, performances, engineering, and production - that clearly went into this. (OK, OK, the songwriting on the last three songs falls off quite dramatically, but still...) Mind-blowing when you consider the backstory - that an amateur musician (albeit a savant) did most of it in his apartment basement, in a studio he built, with no computers, while keeping it a secret from the record label because it was a violation of a union contract.

While the album is only 8 tracks, this record is arguably the greatest collection of singles ever put on wax. A landmark on rock and roll, shifting the genre towards arena rock and somehow perfecting it before the genre even had it's legs underneath it. Gorgeous guitar tones, reverberating organs, and layered vocals - Boston's self titled is a must listen!

Classic

Grew up on this album, and it still stands up as an all time classic!

I always liked Boston, definitely their best album as everything else just kinda builds on this framework. This album is just nothing but hits. Great summer record.

Something something airband scrubs reference. This is an excellent album. So much so that I don’t know why Boston isn’t a household name. Like yeah they’re famous but I never hear anything about them and the only song I know is More Than A Feeling.

I know Boston, but never heard the whole album before. This is classic rock defined. Solid songs featuring great guitar effects played very well, especially during the iconic solos. That voice is like none other. The harmonies added a lot too. Does any other album have three songs that open an album better than this??? Liked Songs Added: More Than A Feeling Peace Of Mind Foreplay/Long Time Rock & Roll Band

One of the best engineered records of all time. Maybe the best opening 3 track run of all time.

Pure Rock and Roll Bliss.

I love this album. I'm also so white that if I ever develop vitiligo no one would ever notice.

This one is just legendary

Great album. Their unique sound discovered. Great guitar chords and riffs. Tight and clean. Their best album.

The fact that you can sing along to every song on this album is a testament to how good each one is. The entire album is great, musicianship is on point, and that voice is just unreal. So good

A no-skips album for the ages. Maybe it's more than a feeling, maybe I'm born with it (or maybe it's Maybelline), but I really love classic rock (largely because my dad loves classic rock). And this is maybe the best beginning-to-end classic rock album I've ever heard. Beautiful, clean instrumentation, and an array of songs that all sound like they belong on the greatest hits compilation, but nope they're all on the DEBUT record for Boston. My favorite new finds were Peace of Mind, Foreplay / Long Time (holy shit that was god rock, an actual space quest), and Hitch a Ride (excellent range of dynamics, with the song starting smaller and building masterfully to that final crescendo).

I think this was the first album I put onto an mp3 player. The kind of rock and roll that just makes you feel good. 70s rock may just be my favorite as a whole

Unbelievable two opening tracks and the rest sounds great; incredible unique vocals and love that the rest of the band harmonizes too. 9/10.

I wasnt sure of how I was going to rate this, but the final in Let Me Take You Home Tonight left me with a grin on my face. 5/5 https://youtu.be/da7IyPKUOwg?si=NEM1QaBMkyrbcnmu&t=76 (you can watch the whole thing, but the first minute is about Aerosmith)

Album 830 of 1089 Boston -Boston (1976) Rating : 5 / 5 This one is just packed with classic rock energy from start to finish. Even if you don’t think you know this album, chances are you’ve heard half of it on the radio—“More Than a Feeling,” “Peace of Mind,” “Foreplay/Long Time”—all iconic tracks. It’s polished, powerful, and full of those soaring guitar harmonies and layered vocals that became Boston’s signature. Honestly, it’s a no-brainer that this one made the list—I’d be a little suspect of anyone who didn’t see it the same way. One of the greatest rock debuts ever, and it still holds up beautifully.

One of the best inaugural albums that I have ever heard.

heard some of these songs hundreds of times

Outstanding album. Never realized all these were on the same album.

Quite a bit more butt rocky than I remembered (esp. "Rock & Roll Band"), but such a great album—very fun to be taken back to that first batch of CDs my dad got from Columbia House.

Love this album

Finally, something actually worthy of this list

more than a feeling an absolute banger

Unglaublich erkennbarer Sound

I forgot about this song!!! A great album all around

Imagine making an album debut with More Than a Feeling as the first track. This album was such a nice surprise, coherent, harmonious, it already sounded like the 80s in 1976. I enjoyed listening through the whole album. Favorite tracks: More Than a Feeling Peace of Mind 5/5

Definitively Bostons greatest album and a top 5 in conversation of best album of the 70s. A game changer in rock

Boston Boston!

This was a little before my time, but every track on this album feels iconic. Probably one of the best rock albums of all time

Very classic album. Some of the coolest guitar sound ever

Final boss of AOR, who am I to argue?

Hard to believe this is essentially a demo of two dudes recording in a basement. EVERY track is a staple of classic rock radio and its infectious as hell.

Awesome 5⭐️

This album is still great.

Classic rock bangers through and through. "More Than a Feeling" is one of the best songs ever. I don't think I've ever listened to this whole album before, but regretting not having done so. Enjoyed every song.

Easiest review ever.

classic dad rock- enjoyed every second of this album. not my type of music necessarily but a must listen for everyone! only 37 minutes so perfect front to back album for a car ride

Classic. Still holds up, non stop hits

Favorite Track: More Than A Feeling

Really enjoyed this classic. Easy listening.

The highs are really high here. Great stuff, and a good reminder that I should appreciate Boston more. 4.7

Aces all around, I just wish I wasn't such a jerk in high school and thought I was too cool for this stuff.

All time classic, with a genre defining riff

bravi bravi

Very cool! Very melodic and fun album 5/5

Boston’s debut album is straight-up one of the best first albums a band has ever dropped. It’s packed with hits, and honestly, every single track is solid. It doesn’t feel like a debut — it feels like a band already at their peak. Everyone knows “More Than a Feeling,” and yeah, it still rules. But “Smokin’” might be the most fun track on the whole album. That organ solo? Absolute fire. It gives the song this cool, old-school vibe that just rips. Tom Scholz’s guitar tone is instantly recognizable, and Brad Delp’s vocals are insanely good from top to bottom. The whole thing is clean, tight, and somehow still sounds huge after all these years. Favorite song - Smokin

O album é excelente! As composições são impecáveis. Ja adicionei na minha playlist de rock 🎸.

On my list of top albums of the 70s, amazing.

This album was really fun to listen to! I know Little Richard was one of the founders of rock n roll and this album really proved that.

One of the best debut albums ever!!! I must listen in any library.

Pure classic! Full of bangers, great tone and energy. I hate the term, but it’s “Dad rock” at it’s best, and that’s Rock ’n Roll!

Amazing. I had no idea Scholz was such a badass. Love the idea of creating the perfect rock band, one "with crystal-clear vocals and bone-crunching guitars"

A classic debut album that literally defined mid-70's rock. Distinctly remember listening to this in a friend's bedroom and turning the cover upside as realized the spaceships were actually guitars. I love this from start to finish.

Scientifically produced to be enjoyable. The songs seem simple and the themes certainly are, but the production here is so carefully constructed that the more you listen the more you find. Man do I love a harmonic guitar solo and Boston gives us plenty to enjoy here.

Crazy.

Whata great album. I couldnt find any flaws. If anything it is annyoing how overplayed More than a feeling is, when the album is full of bangers

This album is probably one of the best examples of "the 70s rock" sound

Classic! Great listen.

Short and sweet. Take note br*tish.

Superb

Bruh. C'mon

I'd just be a hater if I gave this less than 5 stars. This album alone is probably why every city has a classic rock station. Also, interesting story about how this album got made.

Top 10 album!

I know every note of this album by heart, as I grew up hearing this album all the time. It's classic 70's dad rock and I have always enjoyed it. There's not an average track on here. If you have access to a radio, then you should know at least four of these songs. What surprises me the most is Boston's second album is not in the book. It's not as highly regarded but this book seems to throw a band's second album in here if the first album was a smash. Don't Look Back is a step down but not so much of a step down that it's different from this one. Boston always moved slowly when it came to making an album, so two years after this to have Don't Look Back is basically them sprinting back to the studio. What I am saying is, unpopular opinion, Don't Look Back should be in this book as well. It's not so different and had hits on it as well. Perhaps I'm still bitter we got every Nick Drake and Tim Buckley album. Hate this one all you want but leaving it out of this book would be ignoring a large part of popular music from the 70's.

All-timer. Probably one of my favorite rock albums. Every song is a hit.

No skips, no misses, no slow-down in the momentum as the album plays. Stellar.

loved it

5 - qualifies for a perfect album

Sonic masterpiece. Every guitar lick and harmonic vocal tingles the ear. Side 2 was better than I remember.

Quite frankly, Boston could have just released this album (recorded in a BASEMENT!!) and they would still be as well known as they are today. There were some minor hits on subsequent albums, but nothing like this monster of an album.

One of my all-time favorites!

I wonder if, when the people of 1976 put this record on, they knew they were listening to a classic album that would stand the test of time. This album is as smooth as butter and gets better with time and every listen.

🤘 🎸 This is up there for my favorite classic rock album of all time. Just packed with banger after banger. I was gifted this vinyl from my mom and it’s probably my most played record next to Autoamerican and Voodoo so I’m coming in with a pretty good idea of what to expect and definitely coming in with bias. There isn’t a whole lot to review musically. It’s easy cheesy dad rock done right, and that’s okay for me. They overuse the plagal cadence but somehow it hits hard every time.

One of the best first 18-20 minutes of an album ever. The first 3 songs set the tone for this band and for good reason: they slaaaaaap. This album was one of the most defining albums of the 70s, and these songs still stand the test of time. I don't usually listen to this type of rock, but it is clearly an amazing album. The last half of the album is still pretty good, so I think this is deserving of another 5.

Ah the sweet embrace of primo dad rock. Does every song sound the same? Yes. Do I love that one 37 minute song? Yes. Do I sing these songs in the car when all I have is the classic rock radio station? I try Absolutely impressive on a technical level that this was created in a basement by an MIT educated Polaroid man deceiving his record label that they were in a professional studio the whole time instead. The guitars are so loud in the mix, but that’s what I came here for. That doesn’t mean that the singing is anything to stick your nose up at though, this guy has some serious pipes. Look, I’m going to give pretty much anything approaching power pop a pretty high score and that’s something you need to know about me. We’re going with a soft 5/5 on this one. Absolutely something you should hear before you kick the bucket

If you spend basically six years on an album, it better be bloody good. Fortunately, it is - eight tracks that perfectly hit every point of 70s classic rock, with few songs hear that I haven't heard on the radio thousands of times ever since. It's a time capsule of a point in time, but what a time capsule!

Album slaps, the dual guitar harmonies are amazing. Brings me back to the first time I hear the album when I was ~12. One of my favorites.

Maybe the best debut album by any band ever.

Really not a second wasted

I haven't listened to this album since I was a teenager (car accident day). It really slapped. I knew basically every song.

Pretty well every song on this album is a rock classic. Great, creative musicians can do that!

Old but gold.

I don't care what others say, this album slaps! Guitar work is great, go Tom Scholz! Are the songs overplayed and completely stereotypical of rock in this time frame...yes but i ain't mad at it. They are all bangers, just make you want to move and enjoy life. They are just something about this rock n' roll band trying to get everyone take everyone away by some smokin music! The music gives you more than a feeling, but a peace of mind that makes me want to hitch a ride and let them take me home tonight. Some might think its cheesy, and they might be right. But rocking out to this album feels gouda!

Boston really came out swinging with their debut. Kudos for creating a greatest hits compilation right out the gate. It's rare to encounter an album I haven't listened to before, and to know almost every song. Great stuff, fun lyrics, and the instrumentation and song structures are very well produced. I don't care if this is considered cheesy by some, I think it's a pretty fantastic classic rock album. It's interesting too, because am I excited when I hear some of these songs on the radio? Some of them, sure, but not all of them. And I've heard some of them so much that Boston just feels overplayed. But when I put the overplayed thing aside and listen to this as the full album they created that was once new and fresh, this is an easy 5 for me for the sheer number of hits it produced.

Brings back those right out of high school feels. Banger to banger to banger. Album is straight from start to finish. Definitely in rotation.

What an absolute classic of an album. The power of unison guitars and stacked, soaring vocal harmonies. Pretty much every song on this album was a single and I've heard before — some I couldn't have told you were Boston. The fact that this was largely a one-man show is unbelievable. Pretty basic bass parts, which is what happens when you don't have a dedicated bass player writing parts I think, but there's so much going on melodically that I think it fits.

Great album, i really enjoyed singing along and thinking of the last time I heard those songs. really a nice time.

This is #day232 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and… as a child, I used to believe that when artists released their first album, they usually called it Best Of. Boston's debut could've easily been called that, because it really is one of those records where every single song sounds like the best one. The guitar is particularly great, but the whole thing is a pleasure to listen to. P.S. I'm here again after a Rick Beato YouTube episode about the best-sounding records of all time. I agree. The epitome of mid-'70s hard rock. Sounds delicious on my Technics SU-7300. This is a 5 out of 5. Looking forward to #day233.

It's literally impossible for me (as well as probably thousands of other millennials) to rate this album with an objective lens, as we were subjected to listening to it literally countless times on car rides listening to FM radio - and there is a part of my brain that correlates these songs to the slow death of FM radio, and how it's JUST the same 10-15 songs which are played on the airwaves. But setting that aside... this is a monster of a classic rock album - and a debut album at that! Despite being played to death, I still found my adrenaline starting to pump while doing a full album listen - especially during the opening/buildup up "Foreplay". Yeah it's all a bunch of mid-70s rock cheese.. but who doesn't love cheese now and then?

Boston's self-titled debut album was the most successful pop debut until Whitney Houston's debut ten years later. Largely the work of Tom Scholz, guitarist and songwriter that built a 12-track recording system in his basement. He assembled a band, and they crafted well-produced, guitar driven arena rock songs. The album includes hits "More than a Feeling," "Peace of Mind," and "Long Time," which drove the success of the album and established the band as a fixture on classic rock playlists.

Cheesy and delicious!

Fantastic mix of guitars, percussion, singing, and organ. A true classic. And their first album!

Classic rock that still sounds great...not a weak song in the bunch.

fire!!

I’m realizing now that the DJs that ran the classic rock station when I was growing up were huge Boston fans. I never knew who was playing and to credit, but now I know how much ass Boston really kicks!

Classic for a reason.

Same song lots of times, overused by adverts, still epic

Loved it!!

I didn’t know I knew every song on this album. What a debut album, it’s a veritable greatest hits. This was a band that knew exactly what they wanted to do and executed it perfectly.

Classic album start to finish. Holds up every time. There's a reason its still on the radio all the time all these years later.

One of the best debut albums of all time. Amazing that it was one guy.

I can't believe this is a debut album. Every song has me rockin'!

No private session used for Spotify. I had this on cassette when I was much younger, I purchased it for 3 dollars at the neighborhood comic book/music store called "Dr. Rocks". Completely useless and off topic information. This album, like the Cars' first album, could just be their greatest hits. It rocks, screaming thunderous guitar. Scholz's guitar work is intense and Delp's vocal work is perfect.

Yacht rock so good you can feel the shag carpet

Hell yeah! This is the sound of a dad starting his midlife crisis in the best way possible - buying a muscle car and blasting it down the highway with the windows down. Every song is a perfect mix of soaring vocals, big-ass guitar solos, and synths that sound like they were beamed down from a spaceship. Pure, untouchable, over-the-top rock and roll. It's basically flawless (I mean, Tom was a perfectionist). Every song is just there in your brain, even if you don’t know how.. So OK, there is a tinge of repetitiveness in it, but it takes nothing away from the sum of its parts. He found a recipe and stuck to it. Spins: All Day Playlist Additions: - More Than A Feeling - Peace Of Mind - Foreplay/Long Time - Smokin' - Let Me Take You Home Tonight

I am simply amazed by how well it holds up. The craftsmanship is fantastic and its influence on rock undeniable. Unfortunately, so many albums, groups, and whole years of rock and roll attempted to replicate the joy & passion of this album but lacked the musicality, authenticity, and talent of the original. The studio work (arrangement, mixing) is impeccable. The harmonies soar; the guitar hooks groove hard, but remain unforced. A favorite & part of the desert island collection.

So great. Transported me back to when I was a young teenager.

Masterpiece! RIP Brad Delp

Yeahhhh

Really enjoyed this! Yes it sounds a bit cheesy now but it's so much fun at the same time. I'd heard More Than A Feeling before of course but the whole first half of the album is excellent. Really short and full of energy with tons of guitar solos and soaring vocals, but also some great organ and clavinet sections.

Nice album. Interesting chord progression, great vocal performance, and impressive production in 1970s. Likes: more than a feeling, peace of mind, let me take you home tonight Not sure: smokin’ (well technically it’s really good in all aspects, but personally not too sure if I enjoy it ..)

This album goes so hard. The first 4 songs are all jams, the first 3 of which are also masterpieces. For an album of 8 songs, to have 3 all be too charting hits is crazy. The album is 36 minutes and 34 of those are Foreplay/Long Time. You could teach a class on how to perfectly execute a guitar riff as a bridge with almost any song in this album. It’s a band that really knows its strengths and plays to them.

this album straight up rocks. More Than a Feeling kicks it off, Peace of Mind starts rocking hard, and then Foreplay/Long Time, Rock and Roll Band and Smokin' are absolute face melters. I think the last three songs don't stack up as heavy as the front half of the album, but it doesn't feel fair to drop the score by comparing them. this album rocks, plain and simple

Epic powerhouse record front to back with weaknesses.

It's still hard to believe this is a debut album. Rock perfection by a super group is more like it. Timeless, classic, melodic and cool.

Never listened to the album but had half of it already saved as liked songs on Spotify... Great album, loved it.

LOVE this god damn album. Such great old fashioned rock n roll, insane that basically every song is a hit and it's their debut album.

Wow - a Milestone of Rock 🤘

This has to be Boston's best album - just one banger right after the other, starting off strong with More Than a Feeling. Every song is enjoyable, and there is variety across the songs.

Misschien klinkt het anno 2025 een tikkeltje fout allemaal, maar so be it.

I have a whole new appreciation for Boston! Great album!

One of the greatest classic rock albums of all time

This was great. Many of the songs I recognized from classic rock stations growing up, but wasn't familiar with the band. Boston is fantastic

Classic rock doesn't get any better

More Than a Feeling is great, everything else is good. What’s not to like?

Awesome album. Fun is definitely the word to describe it. More Than a Feeling is a great song, but the rest of the album is also epic. Will definitely listen again.

I don't know if i have any words to say just how amazing Boston is. This album gave me a lot of the same vibes as Rush (It could mostly be due to the fact that this album and 2112 came out the same year and are obviously of the same genre) did and since i loved 2112, it should come as a no brainer that i love this one as well. The songs had such a fun, upbeat and fast paced rhythm to them yet also had such good melodies inside them all as well. I would honestly say that my biggest issue with this album is i just want more of it which should just go to show just how amazing it really is. Best Song: Foreplay / Long Time Worst Song: Let Me Take You Home Tonight

I listened to this album with my dad while logging my hours for driver's training. I'll always love it. I never get sick of More Than a Feeling no matter how many times I've heard it. Hitch a Ride and Foreplay / Long Time are my other favorites but every song is good.

As soon as I see something labled as "AOR", I can't help but hesitate just a little bit. It's often the more polite way of calling something hair metal, which is a genre I can't stand. But this album represents the good side of AOR. Filled to the brim with catchy riffs and fantastic vocals, the powerhouse of an album keeps my attention for its entire runtime. It's just theatrical enough to feel epic, but still remains very down to earth and accessible. Definitely one I will be keeping in consistent rotation for the foreseeable future.

Epic Album

Honestly could be a 5. A lot of bangers on here, both vocally and musically like foreplay. Reminds me of steely dan or Fleetwood mac.

Excellent! V easy to listen to. Great lyrics, great everything!

Was really good. Its like George Duke.

Great rock debut

heck yes!!

Heard before but always a classic.

I just realized the UFOs in this album art are guitars. I like that Boston’s iconography is all UFOs and not like. John Hancock or something. Fenway Park. This is one of those albums that suffers from the radio. Like, Jesus what a fucked up first 3 songs, they’re so crisp and good. But also I’ve heard them 1000 times. So separating myself from that, what a good album! Wikipedia mentions the power pop influence and I think that’s why it’s so good. Fuck you that bass on Foreplay is so fucking good

When you listen to classic rock radio, you hear Boston frequently…all off this album. Tom Schulz and Barry Goudreau’s guitar work on “More than a Feeling” and “Hitching a Ride” are incendiary in both their arrangements and performance. Their tone offers a perfect complement to Brad Delp’s incredible range, as noted on “Hitchin’ a Ride”. But my (everyone’s) favorite comes on the almost 8-minute epic “Foreplay / Longtime” where the entire band gets a chance to not just shine, but blaze! Fred Sheehan’s bass work paired with Sin Hashian’s drumming lay a foundation that Barry and Tom build on, and Brad crowns a capstone at unprecedented heights. My only complaint is that this song should have been 1st or last because it’s so good it kind of leaves you spent. Unfortunately, like all bands mentioned that found perfection first, Boston put out a 2nd mediocre album two years later, and several more every 8years after. But, man, what an album…

Boston is such a weird anomaly. If I recall correctly, MIT dudes who cracked the rock n roll code and made an absolute masterpiece and tons of money. They have only released 5 albums in 50 years. This first album is so so good. The songs just wash over you and you can jam/rock/roll to all of them. I saw these guys in concert in the 90s and it was super fun. I need more Boston in my life. This is my reminder to put this one into the regular rotation.

Maybe the first album I ever listened to in full. My dad was a fan, and would often crank the volume to the max whenever we drove anywhere. Later on, I liked to put this on when shooting pool. If not for nostalgia alone, 5 out of 5, and glory to Boston.

I love this, has staying power and never gets old

Can't go wrong playing this one in a bar.

Really enjoyed the album . It was a favourite of mine years ago

I´ll take any excuse I get to listen to this gem!

One hell of a debut, those first five songs are just hit after hit. Good stuff

С гимнами вроде «More Than a Feeling» и драйвовой «Smokin’».

I mean, come on. THE classic rock album haha. I think this album is amazing. It inspired so much rock music after it and the production is incredible. Just clean.

I've been looking forward to reviewing this album for a long time. It's an album that I know well, and album whose songs I've loved since childhood. I remember hearing "More Than A Feeling" on the radio when I was probably ten or so, and being mesmerized by its beautiful guitar melodies and insanely fun chorus. I was fortunate enough to see Boston in 2003, and they put on an excellent show, and if memory serves, they played for three hours straight without an intermission. But enough of my backstory, let's fire up the turntable and jam out to one of the best classic rock albums of all time! Well, I’m actually feeling pretty on this album, and my declaration of it being one of the best classic rock albums of all time, while fairly accurate, might also be a bit hyperbolic in a way. Boston is no Rumors or Wish You Were Here, but just because it lacks the emotional depth of some of my favorite albums from the seventies doesn’t detract from the fact that it’s an incredibly well made and fun album full of solid guitar rock. “More Than A Feeling” and “Foreplay/Longtime” are fantastic songs which stand head and shoulders above the rest of the album. Both of these songs are perfect examples of Tom Scholz’s understanding and love of classical music, and contain beautiful and complex melodies fleshed out with fantastic guitar playing. Brad Delp’s vocals are outstanding, and I’m always jealous of how well he hits the notes on “More Than A Feeling.” The rest of the album is great too, and even though “Peace of Mind” is the only other single from the album, the five songs on the second side could have easily been singles as well. While I think this album is ambitious, bold, melodic, and perfectly arranged, it’s just not what I want to listen to a lot these days (I’ll always be in the mood for “More Than A Feeling” though), and I think that’s what’s weighing on me when considering what to rate this album. However, from an execution standpoint, I can’t really find many faults, and I think this is worthy of a five-star rating. Even if it’s just ‘Dad Rock,’ its impact and influence is massive, and it certainly deserves a place on this list.

This is the first album I bought myself. Paid a quarter for it at a garage sale when I was about 10 or 11. Had no idea what it was, just thought it looked cool. This album is perfect, no skips. 10!

I really like this album. Peace of Mind is one of my favorite choruses of any song for some reason. This album makes me feel like I’m in a bar and I love it. They have such good little harmonic moments. This album might actually make it into my rotation.

"Boston" de Boston es el "álbum de papá" perfecto. Considerando que todo el LP nace como una "grabación casera", manteniendo un poco de ese espíritu incluso en su versión final, lo hace aún más impresionante. "More than a feeling" es un excelente single, sin embargo, el resto del disco no deja de ser entretenido, definiendo un sonido específico e influenciando en el Rock-Pop americano. Escúchelo, es sumamente recomendable.

Loved it. Every single track was excellent.

It’s more tha a feeling that this rock n roll band will be smoking for a long time!

One of the best albums in this list

Peace of mind... Otros discos del 76: Statio to station, Songs in the key of life, Hotel California, Love to love you baby, Desire, Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, Rocks, Oxygene, el directo de Peter Frampton, Jailbreak, Arrival, Black and blue, Fly like an eagle, The year of the cat, Presence, Calling card, los debuts de Modern lovers, Peter Tosh, Ramones y Tom Petty...

Huge shot of nostalgia with this album today! I owned the CD of it in high school and played the hell out of it. One of the strongest debut albums ever! Phenomenal album! Favourite songs: Smokin', Peace of Mind, More Than a Feeling, Foreplay/Long Time, Rock & Roll Band, Let Me Take You Home Tonight, Something About You Least favourite songs: Hitch a Ride 5/5

Great album, fantastic cover art. This what I want to hear at the local dive bar. 1976 was a good year.

I really loved this album! I didn't realize how many tracks I already knew. It was fabulous from front to back. The thing that got me the most was this album has one of the best starting tracks on any album. It's up there with Nirvana smells like teen Spirit as an opening track. 20 years ago. I would have thought this album was a cheesy and derivative classic rock album. Now I realize this album is where the mold probably came from. 2nd 5 star album thus far for me!

I would give this one 6 stars if I could. I feel like it was great and can also see how it influenced others. Also nice to see a debut album from a band land on this list.

Great album classic

This might be the most over played album of all time. Every single track was on heavy rotation on the classic rock station. That being said, it's pretty crazy for one guy to make an album that's entirely hits. Yeah it's like kinda lame but really only because it's like permeated culture.

Growing up in the album era where funds were hard to come by, buying an album was a bit of a gamble. You bought it for the hit(s) and then hoped that you liked more of what was left than you didn't. This album hit me in the right place at the right time. It wasn't the first album I owned but it was the first album I owned that left me awestruck and it left an indelible impression. The whole thing was solid bangers! Back in the day I played this album so often that I had it memorized. In the years following its release, radio overplay put a tarnish on it but I haven't heard this from front to back in decades and I loved every second of it! This is definitely one of my life's audio milestones. (And the album cover art concept is awesome!)

Say what you want about dad rock and the fact that many of these songs have been played to death by FM radio, but this is almost perfection. The son writing, guitar playing and vocals are top level for rock music. Top. Level.

Förvånansvärt hårt bitvis. Några riktiga storhits finnes. Mycket bra platta.

Day317 - from first to last this a complete rock album. boston should get into the rock and roll hall of fame but it’s too bad brad delp won’t be there when they do, what a voice he had

SUPER fun album, so much energy en expermental fun songs i love it

THE staple of high school drive time! And a perfect bookend for the week that started with Surrealistic Pillow.

Fantastic album from start to finish.

Every track is perfection.

Immer noch toll

What a refreshing album for the weekend. The story on how this album was actually cut is amazing in its own right, worth reading up on if you haven’t. The first 5 tracks alone get it to a hands down 5 for me, the rest is just icing on the cake. I won’t even call out specific instruments or tracks because it gels and flows so seamlessly. I listened to this on the highway at about 11 on the dial and 80 on the speedometer, and could just feel my blood pressure dropping a few points and the stress and weight leaving my body. Staple party album of the 70’s and 80’s. Probably helped coin the term “Dad rock” as well, but a positive bangin play through nonetheless.

Arena dad rock at its finest with all eight tracks charting. And the first 4 are simply classic. The backstory of how this album was made and recorded is fascinating. Timeless songs that still rock today, nearly 50 years later.

This smokes, obviously. Foreplay isn’t until track three? Sorry babe, not gonna last past the solo in More than a Feeling.

Man, I knew I liked me some Boston but this album just kept going! The guitar riffs, the harmonies. Greatness. It’s like rock your face off Bee Gees. Motha’ fuckin’ ten!

No way I’m giving anything less than 5* for the album with the ultimate song. First five songs rip hard and are super fun. Not trying to reinvent rock here. Just wailing guitars and good vibes. 4.5/5

Classic rock! I feel like Boston are pigeon-holed as fairly basic meat and potatoes rock 'n' roll / Dad Rock but I find this album better than that. The synths are a little of their time but create a really distinct sound. I also found it interesting how Scholz was influenced by classical music in terms of how he structured some of the songs. Aside from that, love the guitars and especially love the vocals, what's not to like?

Fuck yeah

Classic

Yessss!!!! I am 100% sure they have sold their souls in order to write this album. 😈 And the album cover is just perfect. 😍🛸😍🛸😍🛸😍

This might just be my favourite album of all time. The guitar sounds are awesome, the singing is great, the songs are catchy. It just all clicks

Smokin' is very good, More Than A Feeling is a masterpiece. Nice vocal. Very good album.

The spaceship is an upside down guitar and i never knew this until the internet told me. Foreplay/longtime is such a cool song but it bothers me at times cause the beginning is so sick and the bass line is so fat and then it just disappears

This album opens with two of the best rock songs ever recorded.

One of the great rock voices of all time in Brad Delp. I consider him with Freddie Mercury, Nate Ruess, and Steve Perry.

Maybe one of the best albums of all time. I'm warm on dad rock. I like a Nazareth, I like some journey...but this album is insane and basically made by one guy and a really wild singer. It's very, very good.

Obviously a class. Don't listen to it much anymore because I listened so much in the past.

This is literally an album of hits, and it’s also Boston’s first album, so is that the equivalent of peaking in high school? I don’t know. I feel kind of bad for Boston because every single person has heard every song on this album at least 100 billion times. I didn’t listen to the whole thing. Just kind of went through each song and was like “oh yeah, it’s THAT song.” But still, not many artists or bands can say that they’ve ever put out an album where every song was played on the radio. That’s pretty unheard of. I can’t fathom giving them less than 5 for that reason. That and the fact that Brad Delp was troubled…😔 He deserves 5 stars.

crazily iconic - i didn't know it from the band but lol i've heard all this

Obviously everyone knows the opening track 'More Than A Feeling' but does the rest of the album live up to that? Honestly I think the opener is one of the lesser tracks here. It's full of absolutely brilliant songs. Every track on this album could go onto one of those compilation CD's. 'Dad Rock: Songs To Drive Down the Motorway To' and they would all fit nicely between some Thin Lizzy and Status Quo. The first two minutes of 'Foreplay/Long Time' was so good I went back to it first thing after finishing the album. The fact they wrote and recorded the demo years prior to the album's official release, and when it came to making the actual album they didn't change a single thing tells you they knew the material they had was brilliant. If you're into 70's rock then you'll really enjoy this a lot. Catchy tunes, radio friendly choruses, perfect production, great riffs and solos, fantastic vocals. It's just a hell of a lot of fun from start to finish.

This album takes you back to a point in time and demonstrates why this is one of the greatest albums ever engineered. Front to back classic hits!

5/5 Classic. Every song is perfect.

Amazing album, a true classic. Not one track you’d skip. Must listen and enjoy.

Love this whole album

an equal mix of both loud and quiet rock music; i wanna say it's the sort of music you and your uncle would listen to in the car as you stare out the window, seeing endless fields and a golden sunset. i can really see why they call it arena rock, it's definitely the sort of rock and roll that'll get a crowd jumping, whenever it's an arena, party... heck, even a church. the last track especially has a fast gospel-inspired finish.

Totally kicked ass. I’ve only ever known “More Than a Feeling” and “Peace of Mind” and the rest of the album was almost every bit as good as those songs. This has to be one of the best rock albums of the ‘70s. It’s maybe closer to a 4.5 but it would still round up to 5.

More Than a Feeling blijft een tijdloze klassieker en ook Peace of Mind, Foreplay/Long Time, Rock & Roll Band, Smokin' en Hitch a Ride zijn best wel goeie nummers. 4.6

Best album ive heard so far. I love a 70s rock vibe it seems. Reminded me of jonny’s cottage

An absolute joy to listen to. Though the opener is the big hit everyone knows, the rest of the album is just as good and so criminally underrated. Such a nice blend of proggy complexity with a radio-friendly dance feel. The biggest thing for me too is how fresh and modern it sounds. Truly trailblazing and captivating

One of the best debut albums of all time. Flawless in my opinion. 5/5

Track 1: More Than a Feeling (10/10) This is one of the most overplayed staples of classic rock radio, and for good reason. Great riffs, beautiful harmonies and enough variety to keep it interesting make it worth listening to. Track 2: Peace of Mind (9/10) Just realizing that I'm probably gonna know all of these songs lol legendary chorus, the harmonies are easily the best thing about Boston. Track 3: Foreplay / Long Time (10/10) Oh my god I love this! The keys especially stood out to me, super proggy in the intro and perfectly utilized throughout the rest of the track. Plus the guitar solos! Man... Track 4: Rock & Roll Band (7/10) Pretty fun, but a little disappointing after 3 bangers in a row. Track 5: Smokin' (10/10) Amazing riffing and a super catchy keyboard solo! I can't hear this song without thinking about South Park. Track 6: Hitch a Ride (8/10) This song has my favourite guitar solo so far! Also, I didn't expect to love the keyboards as much as I do since they're not normally my favourite instrument. Easily the highlight of the album for me! Track 7: Something About You (7/10) The filler tracks on this album are honestly still really great thanks to the guitar solos. This song felt super short for some reason... Track 8: Let Me Take You Home Tonight (8/10) The lyrics may be generic by today's standards but it's too sweet for me to care! I think this song is really cute and I would totally use it for a wedding or something similar. Overall: 9/10 I knew I would like this album but it somehow beat my already high expectations. It deserves it's stellar reputation and I would say the 3 elements that made me love this were the guitar solos, harmonies and especially the keyboards! This'll be getting much more attention from me in the future. Fav Song: Foreplay / Long Time Least Fav Song: Rock & Roll Band

I'm gonna run out of superlatives to describe how good this CD is. It sounds like a good band's greatest hits CD, every song is just a banger. Anyone with a car and a radio has heard the first three tracks a dozen times, but it just goes 8 deep. I love "Something About You" and "Smokin", and there's just no dud numbers on here, basically not even a down moment. "Something About You", as close as Boston gets to a deep cut, is a great illustration of the formula that makes this CD work. Delp is a criminally underrated singer who can just crush high notes - he does it late on "Something About You" (beginning "Gotta to have you..."), he also does it on "More Than a Feeling". Scholz has some crushing licks - his tone and penchant for grace-note trills are recognizable from miles away and totally unique - and where he comes in with the solo right after Delp's climactic belt is chilling. You combine those two with massive pop hooks, huge backing vocals, persistently fast tempo, and lyrics that elegantly straddle the line between human universals and banality, and you've got a formula for one of the greatest CDs ever recorded. There's a lot you could say about Boston's influence on rock music - Scholz literally built the sound of 80s rock - but it's unnecessary. This CD is a temple, and if he'd never done another damn thing it'd still be a 5/5.

This album GOES! Somewhat “one note”, but it’s a good note.

Sept. 27: Imma save this for a worse day October 1, 2024 the crème de la crème of A.O.R. The omen for Boston's lack of future smash hits comes as soon as "Something About You", which I think is fun but basically rips off its own A-side. How did I not realize the UFOs on the cover were guitars?

One of the quintessential rock albums, Boston's 'Boston' makes for an absolute blast of a listen. At under 38 minutes and only eight tracks, the album has zero down time and is more or less the perfect classic rock album. As someone who grew up in America, I had obviously heard many of these songs played on classic rock stations growing up, but had never actually sat down and played the album straight through. I was enthused to hear that the energy and vibes of 'Peace of Mind' (the best track, IMO) more or less are evident with every song. This album is famously the greatest freshman offering from a band in rock history, and I think it's warranted. A tremendous, lean, exciting listen.

An absolute classic in classic rock. Hits from start to finish, Tom Scholz carved out a sound of his own. Doesn’t get much better than this 4.75/5

I looooove this album

This was an absolute blast to listen to. I'm not a huge classic rock/dad rock fan, but this one definitely had me singing along. Felt like Bon Jovi before Bon Jovi. It's funny what a good singer will do to make a group more appealing to my ears. When the album finished, I was disappointed since I wanted more lol.

One of the best debut albums of all time.

The biggest complaint I have about this record is so many of the songs are over played. That isn't Bostons fault. It's the platonic ideal of classic rock. If I never hear it again that's fine, but it deserves 5 stars.

Top notch!!!

This album really gave me "peace of mind" for this whole thing.

Great classic rock riffs with quite a few hits.

Everything about this is brilliant. Riff rock has never achieved such heights before or since.

pure hits

Listened to before many times

It's Boston, the debut album of the band Boston, from the town of Boston, Massachusetts. I kid, but it's funny how such a name gimmick sticks. What also helps is that this album slaps. Every song is a banger, including the non-singles "Hitch a Ride", "Something About You" and "Let Me Take You Home Tonight". What works for these songs is the excellent guitar playing from Tom Scholz and Barry Goudreau, Brad Delp’s soaring vocals and how they’re layered in the mix, the melodic song composition in how they’ve nailed the verse-chorus-verse progression to a tea, and the production which sounds pristine for being recorded in a basement. Now, there’s undoubtedly going to be some questions that need to be addressed. Starting with, has this album been overexposed due to non-stop rock radio syndication, and repeated usage of songs in licensed media such as films, TV shows, and video games? Yes, although that's an external factor and byproduct of this album's greatness. Does this album get cheesy as hell at times? Oh yes, but I consider it a part of the charm and it doesn't overstay its welcome at 37 minutes. Did this band peak with their very first album? Absolutely yes. They did have other successful singles afterward, but this was the best full album experience we ever got from Boston. With all those questions answered, if you feel this is not an album for you after listening, then that’s fine. Music is subjective, and everyone’s opinion is going to be different. All I ask is to give it a chance.
