I enjoyed it a lot and was fun listening too
Just a catchy, fun album. It's prime cut cheese, but I love me some cheese.
Good album, went by quick!
alright
goes hard

More than a felling je prva!
First time I think I'm listening to Boston and it's pretty solid. I think my first reaction was muted because a lot of what I've listened to seems to have been influenced by Boston so listening to this, I wasn't feeling wowed. But reading the history of how this album was created, it's nuts what they were able to create. Favorite track: More Than a Feeling
Turns out I like Boston more than I thought. Definite ties to the jam bands of the late 60s and early 70s, but also you can see how they connect to the big arena rock of the 80s. Like most of these albums, the later tracks on the B side are just okay.
Solid
Herlig album. En rekke gode låter. Fantastisk vokalist. Liker gitarsounden veldig godt. Litt svakere mot slutten av albumet. Blir en grei firer fra meg.
more than a feeling!
Classic rock with capital letters. I hope you like guitars. Lush harmonies, multi-layered guitars (gold top Les Paul -> EQ -> Cry baby -> Marshall head), tight rhythms and interesting (but not challenging) song structures. The whole thing, for all its studio tricks, was recorded by three people (Tom Sholz, Brad Delp and Jim Madsea) in Sholz's basement. Mind you, Sholz was a professional project manager with a Master's in engineering from MIT, so the three people mattered. Boston has been accused of representing an early example of corporate rock, designed in a lab by producers to sell records rather than cultivated organically by a hard-touring band on the road. I'm open to arguments about authenticity in music but I think the real genesis of this record undercuts the accusation. If you reframe it to just cover pandering to music fans, well it was written, performed and produced by a bunch of music nerds in a basement: it stands to reason that they produced something that's a refined synthesis of stuff that already exists. I will say, as much as this is a technically wonderful recording, it does ring a little hollow. Don't get me wrong: the bass lines and the hand-claps and the sections where the band drops out to just leave the guitar hook playing for two bars before crashing back in -- they're all highly effective and involving. But when you listen closer to the lyrics, they're a little empty. You can get by writing nonsense (Yes!) or insincere lyrics in the industry for a whole career, but I sure won't give credit as a masterpiece. Overall, though Boston built a template that was widely imitated in the arena-rock scene after this, the talent on display really shines brighter than the pale pretenders that followed. This album features two exceptional guitar players dueling; a bass player finding the perfect line between melody and a rock-solid groove; a keys player absolutely murdering his solos and no synths in sight; a drummer absolutely careening through songs; two to five part harmonies soaring behind all of it. Every instrument sounds like someone cared deeply about how it sounded and the mix and master reflect it, too. This might not be as profound an album as Dark Side of the Moon but there aren't many better records to put on, roll down the windows and cruise. I'll be exhibiting some bias probably, but for me it's a 4/5.
Very good rock n roll But probably wont listen again 7/10
Hell of an album. One man’s quest to make the perfect record. He just about does it too.
Great
I was two years old when this album came out. Every single one of these songs reminds me of the back seat of my mom's Dodge Dart, which was beige.
Boston is very nostalgic for me and I already like a lot of these songs despite never listening to the album. I liked it! A bit repetitive
This album is great. It is a classic representation of rock from the 70s as the genre was evolving. I always think of More Than A Feeling whenever I listen to Boston or think about Boston especially a couple weeks ago when I went to Boston for vacation. I went to Fenway Park too and immediately turned it on. But yeah, great album and a poignant album for dad rock. Favorite Tracks: More Than A Feeling, Peace of Mind, Foreplay/Long Time, Smokin’ Rating: 4.5/5
Came to this album with existing expectations that it was full of big hits. And to a certain extent it was. But found some of the tracks a bit too polished and a bit lacking in soul. I find the same thing with ELO, musically good but no real depth.
Overall, surprisingly like this album much better than I thought I would. Categorized as arena rock, most popular song is more than a feeling, though I enjoyed a lot of the other songs more. Guitar electric guitar has a lot more punch and structure overall more melodic and major key riffs, much more digestible in a lot of ways then psychedelic Rock of the surrealistic pillows in Jefferson airplane. Surprisingly there are songs that I would return to outside of this listening exercise. Peace of mind specifically and maybe let me take you home tonight.
Honestly I think this album suffers from its success. So many big songs that have been played to death over the years
Bangers. Bit of everything, great road-tripping music to keep your head bopping all day long.
7,5/10
Enjoyed this, guitar heavy with good melody and solos
Banger
i always forget just how Early this album came compared to the other stuff that could be described as meat and potatoes aor. far more oriented towards Rock And Roll than pop or hair metal. it makes it distinct from its descendants, but maybe not the most distinct as music unto itself...if anything those more "generic" offshoots of AOR actually expanded the possibility space, just about everything here sounds roughly the same especially in melodic style. still its a fine thing to have a slab of....i used to kinda hate peace of mind fsr but my slow transformation back into a classic rock critter makes it a lot more tolerable these days, and everything else is good and catchy and shiny (yet with some amount of grit and libido still) in comfortingly predictable ways. foreplay/long time is genuinely great....even without the intro, its rly dense with musical ideas in a way i never fully picked up on before. the inverse is more than a feeling, which has exactly one minute of an idea but the idea is fine enough that its allowed to be repeated a few times. everything else is good too!!! a fine night on the town. or sweltering walk at noon in texas, in my case
4.6
You know what, actually really fun. I like this a lot. I don't get a lot of rock, which is gonna make a lot of the albums on this challenge suck, but it'll be fine if I can keep finding gems like this.
ok so I had never HEARD of boston but when i put on the album i recognized more than a feeling. 7/10 good stuff
More Than A Feeling is awesome and carries the album a little bit for me but I enjoyed Peace of Mind and Let Me Take You Home Tonight as well. The first couple minutes of Foreplay / Long Time rock, I listened to that part on repeat multiple times.
I'm always happy to listen to More Than a Feeling. Most of the rest is good-to-great. Most of the lyrics are dull or outright stupid (mainly Smokin', but also, "dancin' in the streets of Hyannis"!?), but the amazing riffs carry the day. Let Me Take You Home Tonight is a fantastic finisher. No one else sounds like Boston.
This was good. I saved of course "More Than a Feeling" and "Peace of Mind"
Virkelig godt album. Kan høres flere gange i træk. Fed fed rock!
cool
Obviously a banger, some of the best artwork. Definitely feel like I heard every single one of these songs ad nauseam growing up.
Good listening.
close to being a 5/5. Too generic for me
3.5ish
Not much more than more than a feeling but it’s enough
Boston sounds like a lot of other late-70s rock bands, but just a little more sophisticated. The guitar work on this is impressive. There are like 7 songs and the first 5 are classics. Well done.
Top to bottom, this is an excellent album. The production is crisp and clean—no surprise, considering Tom Scholz practically revolutionized home music production with this record, crafting most of it in his basement. The layered harmonies and the clarity of each instrument make it a joy to listen to from start to finish. This isn’t the kind of album where you skip tracks—every song earns its place. While it naturally feels like a 5-star album, I reserve 5s for records that transcend pure listening pleasure and hit a deeper, more emotional or cultural level. That said, Boston comes incredibly close. It’s a sonic masterpiece that still holds up decades later. Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars
Bangers on bangers on bangers. This entire album is like listening to a classic rock station in the summer. Had never read about its recording, that story is wild. If you asked me yesterday if I liked Boston I would have said "Eh, they were OK." But this album is fantastic.
Pretty great, no bad songs really. I love Foreplay/Longtime and Peace of Mind, the deep cuts are decent but I dont know how much I will return to them.
8/10 Favorite: Peace of Mind
Obviously a classic with really cool album cover art
I had more than a feeling I would like this album when it appeared.
The fact that I knew nearly every song on this album just proves that it's a classic
Loved it.
Lo clásico nunca falla.
Knew the first 4ish songs very well, didn't know and didn't love the rest.
Love this album and these songs. Some of the instrumental parts were just too long for me, so 4/5 not 5/5.
Fav: Peace Of Mind Least Fav: Smokin’ Distinct lack of alien abductions or other UFO related activities
Would be perfect if the last track just didn't exist.
Only knew 'More Than a Feeling' beforehand but really enjoyed this album! 'Peace of Mind' has become a new favourite.
As much as I like the album, I am more fascinated by the story of Tom Scholtz. The man not only recorded, produced and mixed most of the instrumental parts but he also built the recording studio and some of the equipment himself, honestly incredible. The sound is wonderful, perfect arena rock styled music!
Banger am Anfang und Ende, Mitte hängt bissle durch
Not bad at all, fun arena/power rock. very belt-able songs for sure
Favorites: More Than A Feeling, Foreplay/Long Time, Smokin’ Incredibly fun AOR. AOR isn’t my type of music in the slightest, but the way that Boston approaches it with genuine love for their music makes it all so special to me. Very much recommend this one.
Fajn klasickej rock
4/5 love me some boston
5 stars
Absolute fire. I loved learning the backstory of the band it really puts the album into context. Listening to Peace of Mind knowing the person that made it pursued music even with a mechanical engineering degree from MIT just makes so much sense. I loved all of these songs and have known some of them all my life.
4.5 This album is a 5-star in all honesty, maybe the fact that I don't think I would go out of my way to listen to it knocks it down a half point. The thing that stood out to me was the recording track usage. I thought all the room on the mixing board was used perfectly throughout the entire album. Also, shout-out to the movie FUBAR 2. Deaner who is down and the dumps after a failed rock career and no prospect of a job, loses his last testicle to cancer. Depressed, Deaner decides to commit suicide a day after Christmas. Visiting his family on Xmas day and telling them that he will be going to "Cabo Wabo" tomorrow and won't see him for a long time. The group decided to sing karaoke, and Deaner pulls more than a feeling. Deaner suddenly has the voice of a rock star, due to the fact that he is now Castrato and has a reason to live. Funny, funny stuff. Side note my mother was selling new homes in our town, and the Movie was using one of the showhomes as a filming site. I was asked to be an extra in one of the scenes, but for some dumb reason I declined. Totally regret that to this day .
4,5
i'm really enjoying!
Ok,. Boomer! I am surprised to say I like this. It's very much "dad rock," but I found it fun, engaging, and easy to listen to. I could see listening to this on a road trip.
Some very good rock from the 70s
Solid Album
Absolute classic. Every song is a banger!
Bombastic and fun. Really enjoyed this album - More Than A Feeling absolutely slaps and always has, but lots of the other songs were really easy to listen to as well. Definitely a big vibe.
Jammy '70s rock classic, going from the first two or three songs, which feel iconic, to the rest of the album, which exist in a limbo of feeling iconic and not iconic at the same time. It's sort of like every song feels like a hit but the big hits feel like bigger hits so your brain gets rewritten to filter out the lesser hits as regular songs What I mean is it's pretty good
One of the biggest from the 70s. I've heard and played this one so much that I'm rather tired of it. It's flawless throughout, from start to finish.
Could just as easily be a greatest hits album. I think every song on here gets pretty consistent play on rock stations, and I know it had a huge influence on the industry when it debuted.
Enjoyable, cheesy classic rock. What it did make me think is that it's mad that the darkness album we did the other week basically matches the standard.
As I listened to the album I was realizing I have already listened to 80% of the album, just never knew what I was randomly listening to here and there was Boston. They’re definitely fun to sing along to.
One of those albums that will grow on me with time I think
That's more like it. Lots of great guitar harmonies that give me swedish metal precursor vibes
This album makes me feel like I'm 15 years old again. All 8 of these songs still get played on classic rock radio. It's nothing groundbreaking but it's 70s arena rock at its most enjoyable and the production is great. This is the only Boston album worth listening to.
There's nothing bad or too annoying it's okay
88% Best: More Than a Feeling; Peace of Mind; Foreplay/Long Time; Smokin' Must-Hear? Sure
Fun listen. Great stadium rock.
Side A is a 5, Side B is like a 3.....split the diff
Classic
First listen was over in a flash. First two songs are absolutely classics The closer is outstanding Foreplay/Long Time is interesting
The ultimate Dad-Rock album that helped create a genre. A look into Tom Scholz and his journey to kick this off is amazing. 4/5
I have never been a huge fan of Boston, but this album contains so many iconic songs that it is hard not to listen and get nostalgic for the days of yore.
I don't really love any of these songs, but damned if I didn't know every single one of them from having them crammed into my ears anytime I was near a radio over the last 45 years. As a collection, it's classic rock in every sense.
stacked with great songs you already know all the words to. turn it up and sing along!
Lots of good songs; Ryan’s first favorite.
Already liked
This was such a solid rock album with some of their best songs! Honestly there are no track skips on this album, it is fire! 🔥 I would definitely listen to it again and recommend it to others!
solid... crowd pleasing
yeah the first few songs were giving journey (a very good thing). “foreplay/long time” had a very apt title because the guitar solo during the intro was CRAZY good and lowkey built up to the bulk of the song. and then the closing guitar solo was ALSO crazy good. “smokin’” was peak 60’s/70’s rock. overall really solid. 4/5.
Hall of fame album by the goats. Love this one through and through. Always a good listen and feels like a 2000s romcom. 8.6/10
Classic rock. Great single, enjoyed the album.
Album zaskoczył mnie swoją pozytywną energią. Boston dla mnie nie skończył się tylko na tym albumie. Mocne 4.
They really took us to Massachussets
What a sound. They get kind of lost in the woods for me in the middle but the whole thing is fun and can’t beat that opener. Just shy of a 5.
Solid classic rock album. Smokin and More than a feeling - personal favorites
Sigh.... Yeah, this rips. Alright.
Album is really cool and so is the recording process behind it. Some parts were far more epic than others. But it is a feat and should be celebrated as such any way you cut it.
Great soft rock of the time
Shameless pop rock and one of the pioneers. Come on, you enjoyed it.
So fun and lively!! Just a good time all round. :)
Amazing album
Fussy yet well done sweeping rock and roll.
4/5. Great party album.
Better than expected, honestly.
I'm generally not a fan of classic rock, but this album rocks.
80er Roch wie man ihn haben will. Besonders die ersten beiden Songs sind genial. Danach schwacht es etwas ab, aber ich runde die 3 1/2 auf.
I really liked this. It doesn’t really push any boundaries but was really enjoyable rock n roll. Guitars were great, the organ when it was used added a lot. Starts off very strong with “More Than A Feeling” and “Peace of Mind”. Good album.
Great arena rock, harmonies.
7/10
Classic Rock album. More than a feeling is an all time classic. Other songs do not quite live up to that standard, but in no means a bad album.
‘More than a feeling’ is obviously iconic and has completely surpassed the band’s or album’s name. Meaning this is my first ever listen of the album. But it’s good to finally hear it in its original context—a bit like seeing a caged animal return to its natural habitat. Shameful to not have done it earlier, but relieved to finally get to it.
A lot of it sounds the same, but when the same is "More Than A Feeling" that's a-okay.
Really enjoyed this album 8/10
Lekker album om naar te luisteren. Denk dat More than a Feeling mijn minst favoriete nummer is op het hele album.
I liked this a lot more than I thought I would. They're hits for a reason.
Really enjoyed it. I downloaded the album, and I'll listen again :)
It is an absolute barn burner. Classic songs for a classic LP.
Favorite Track: Peace of Mind
More than a feeling may be one of the most overplayed songs to ever exist, but still this album is very good.
- I really like "More Than a Feeling"! - I am solidifying my preference of not liking long instrumental intros like in "Foreplay/Long Time". - None of the other songs really jumped out to me but I reaaaally enjoyed "More Than a Feeling" so I shared it with dad and J.

Aikuisrockia tai isärockia, mutta onpas taidolla tehtyä. Ihanat urut. Vähän kutkuttavan kliseistä. Aika hyvä levy.
drums and guitar go brrr
Very good
i had a weird experience with this album. i listened to it on the way to the gym and in the space of 10 minutes i experienced: -a tow truck blocking both lanes of traffic on cary while the driver walked around it as slowly as possible -somebody's burst water pipe pouring up through their lawn and into the road -3 guys on motorcycles doing wheelies and weaving through traffic whom i ended up behind for the rest of the commute terrible drive. very strange. fun sound though. 4/5 good soundtrack to stress and chaos
I have always liked this album. The playing is phenomenal, the songs are fun and cheesy, and it’s not UK Electronic music. Some of the most iconic riffs and guitar parts of all time. Similar to hybrid theory, the hits on here are skips if they were to ever come up due to overplay fatigue but I still really like them. Rock and roll band does not stand the test of time, it’s a bad song except for one cool moment in the chorus, and the other non hits (something about you, let me take you home) are weak compared to the rest of the project. Thanks Boston for making a pretty good album that got milked to death by radio.
Guitar, vocal and pure rock heroics. Can only imagine what this sounded like bouncing off the Monte Carlo upholstery amidst a cloud of Marlboro smoke.
👌
The most soundtrack of my childhood sound track of my childhood album yet. Best way I can describe this is music that feels like it would sound good in a stadium that doesn’t sound like it was written for a stadium
Banger after banger
Quintessential dad rock
This album is nowhere near as deep as ELO's "Out of the Blue", and Jeff Lynn's spaceship would likely win in an outer space race against Boston's spaceship, but for a debut album this is no slouch. For how "commercial-arena" this is sounds, you'd hardly believe this is nearly one guy's sole vision, recorded in a self-made basement studio. All these layers of feel-good, bouncey, surface level reflections make for a very charming experience. This is the soundtrack of teenage 70's summers, endless possibilities, and being really high in a van. For all the vision, classical training, and ambition nerdy mastermind Tom Scholz had, he needed a Brad and he got one. Brad Delp was the good looking, good timin', frontman with the voice. He even contributed a little bit to the lyrics on a couple tracks. Mostly however, he gave much needed humanity to these ultra-clean sounding multi-layered tracks that soar as high as the spaceship on their album cover. Oddly enough ELO predates the "airbrushed spaceship" album cover by Boston but not sure if they officially kicked that trend off but it sure would take off, no pun intended. They sure sound influenced by ELO and I'd be willing to bet legendary album designer Paula Scher knew what she was doing when she selected that artwork. Anyway... RIP Brad Delp.
Real good
Boston!
I thought I was only familiar with the first track, "More Than A Feeling." But as each new song came on, it was "I know this one! Hey, I know this one, too!!" This album alone was hit single after hit single. Classic rock isn't always my jam, but this album is an easy solid 4 for me.
MORE THAN A FEELING Classic rock album, would’ve loved to grow up to this. A lot of classics. I didn’t grow up with it so I have less attachment to it but really easy and enjoyable rock album. Favourite songs - more than a feeling - foreplay/long time - let me take you home
Am I a Boston fan? Do I get excited about Boston songs? no, not really. I don't hate it. It's fine. I'm about a 3 with the music but I'm giving this a 4 because without ever listening to this album before, I've somehow heard every one of these songs. We've listened to 450 albums so far and this has NEVER happened and I doubt it will again. EVERY song on this album is a hit. This is a butt rock masterpiece.
This album is the soundtrack to the random party that would pop up at the semi-reclusive park at the edge of your town on a Friday night, where someone has scored a couple keggers, people are showing off their cars, and everyone is mingling and trying to hook up, smoking pot, and/or just wasting their life away. I just described the party scene in Dazed and Confused. This album could’ve played over that, but Richard Linklater already did an incredible job with that without the help of Boston. Stellar record. It is one of the best general rock records from the 70’s. So good that it plays out like a Greatest Hits album.
This was huge around the time of Frampton Comes Alive and Fleetwood Mac’s “Rumours”, but Boston was more of a hard rocking band that appealed to males, but didn’t appeal as much to the fairer sex, so at college parties you’d hear the other two a lot, but not Boston. Of the 3 albums I never owned Boston. Still, a great debut with the first 5 songs all Classic Rock radio staples (well, 4.5, since Foreplay was not on the radio, just the Long Time part of that track). Great tracks, great energy, fun to sing along to, and almost all of it was done by one guy in his basement. The last three tracks are decent but not fab. Contrarian Jeff White prefers their next two LPs over this best seller/most popular part of their discography.
Polished album
More Than A Feeling is great and always makes me nostalgic for Scrubs. Didn't expect to like more of them, but Peace of Mind is good too! And Foreplay / Long Time is really cool before the singing comes in; too repetitive. Rock & Roll Band is pretty dull but nice harmonies on the chorus. Smokin' is fun. Hitch a Ride - like it a lot, particularly the harmonies and drumming. Something About You is a lot of fun - love the ethereal start and the call and response element; great harmonies as always. Let Me Take You Home Tonight is sweet.
I enjoyed. The tracks sound like they should be a part of the OST of a Hollywood film
There is a reason why my dad has this album among his vinyl collection, it is a pretty good album. I'm not sure what else to say except it was dope and I'll be coming back to it for a cheeky listen.
More Than a Feeling - 4/5 Peace of Mind - 5/5 Foreplay / Long Time - 5/5 Rock & Roll Band - 4/5 Smokin' - 4/5 Hitch a Ride - 3/5 Something About You - 3/5 Let Me Take You Home Tonight - 3/5 Average score: 3.9/5 (rounding up) kinda wanted to be a hater after having heard More Than a Feeling millions of times on the radio, but i tried to not let that fact affect my rating of the album too much. i will say that Peace of Mind and Foreplay / Long Time are arguably 1000x better than the opening track i don't really have much of value to say about this album, especially since this isn't really a genre i'm crazy about. it's classic, well-produced dad rock
When I started listening to this album, I already had "More than a feeling" stuck in my head. It's one of those songs that when you start hearing the melody, you know it has that attracting flare that makes rock music so good. And after having a chance to listen to this album, I can confirm that "More than a feeling" is not their only good song. Before I listened to this album, I kind of thought that Boston was a one hit wonder. So, I planned on listening to the first song on the album and then listening to the same classic rock beat. However, I can confirm to you that musically, their is a lot more than classic rock in this album. Boston uniquely dives in to country and pre-progressive rock while keeping the same sound elements of a classic rock band. One song that stood out to me well was "Foreplay/Long Time". The beginning sounds like a intro to a Dream Theater concert, with the piano riff and the sudden jerks of the low distorsion guitar. The constant modulations in the first two minutes also makes it seem a lot more progressive than it is. Seriously, I would think that this it was a dream theater song. That is until you realize that dream theater wasn't formed until 20 years later. Another song that really stood out to me was "smokin'" which has a country vibe that keeps their own style. There are other songs/things that I would go into depth, like "Let Me Take You Home Tonight" which is a very soothing song that I really love, but I won't write any more. My only complaint is the distortion sound. It's not bad but they use it on every goddamn song and it becomes very painful after two or three. A lot of songs would do much better with a clean, softer guitar sound. Musically, however, this album is great and I really appreciated it. 4/5 stars.
Several things that I liked and overall very good, but not brilliant.
I mean this album is cheesy but it is also fucking full of bangers LOL
Boston's self titled first album is a wall of layered guitars, supported by powerful vocal harmonies and irresistibly catchy hooks. The band's founder, Tom Scholz, was known for his perfectionism and innovation in the studio, created devices that allowed him to define a new sound that seemed fuller and more dynamic, described as being violin-like without the use of synthesizers. Few pairings in rock history rival the electrifying synergy of Brad Delp's extraordinary vocals intertwined with Scholz's guitar riffs. Growing up, this was the sound coming out of the cool kids' car windows as they drove around town. Also, who hasn't played air guitar to these tracks? This is just a fun classic rock album.
Very good album. I like it a lot. My top three are Hitch a Ride, More Than a Feeling and Peace of Mind in that order. The rest are good, but sometimes not very memorable. The whole album has hints of Queen at times, with the rock-opera vocals and guitar harmonies. 7/10 album.
Solid music. Very recognizable sound.
As much as I try not to admit, the debut album from Boston was one of those life-changing records when I was growing up. It was an album I played continuously in high school, it was instantly accessible and it's sound had that epic "classic" rock sound built right into it, especially side one. I grew sick of hearing "More Than A Feeling" so often, it became annoying and to top that off, a group of my classmates performed that song in the school gym for the "talent" show and I can't unhear their version. The rest of the album is solid, it had a sonic powered energy, with catchy melodies and Tom Scholz's signature guitar sound that blew my mind away. I loved this record and it's a shame the second album couldn't live up to the expectations of the debut, which doomed the band and my interest. Hearing this again, brings back those nostalgic feelings good and bad, and though it's not a great record, it still has an impact on why and what music I listen to now.
4.5 stars. Such a fun album, opening three tracks are just peak soundtrack to good times. Tails off a bit after those three but still not bad. Master's from MIT to international rock star is quite a career for Tom Scholz. Given the summer night nostalgia associated with it, "Foreplay/Long Time" an all-time favorite of mine.
Essential 70s classic rock album with harmonies and melodies akin of pop.
Pretty cool rock!
More driving music, I already hate and love it. Nothing sounds less like the city of Boston than this record. Also nothing sounds like it. It’s an amazing production.
Man, does this album bring back memories. I remember liking it when it was released, but was surprised so many people thought it was the best album ever. Listening to it now, it does have a clean, crisp, and slightly breezy rock n roll feel to it. Which was different than most albums of the time, that’s probably why people lost their minds over it. It is good rock n roll.
Mid-70s debut. Opener More than a Feeling is incredible. The album has been referred to as a landmark in '70s rock and has been included on many lists of essential albums. Hardrock, very melodic. Very good rock. Evocative, epic rock.
very fun listen, not sure if it's going into my regular rotation
Boston - Boston Now this is the definition of Rock 'n' Roll, feels really nostalgic and very groovy with its riffs and melodies, and it's really catchy to listen. Good thing about this album is its consistency, and how they are able to bring new ideas to the table while still maintaining their sound. Overall, this is pretty good! 1.- More Than a Feeling = 9/10 2.- Peace of Mind = 8/10 3.- Foreplay / Long Time = 8/10 4.- Rock & Roll Band = 8/10 5.- Smokin' = 9/10 6.- Hitch a Ride = 8/10 7.- Something About You = 9/10 8.- Let Me Take You Home Tonight = 7/10 FINAL SCORE: 8.2/10
Banger after banger and then it slows way down at the end. What a journey.
Almost a 5. Crazy amount of jams on one album
Good listen. Knew more than I thought I would, tbh.
gut
Epitome of classic rock! Smash hits one after the other. And More Than a Feeling is one of the greatest opening tracks on an album! 4.5⭐️
Nostalgic
In summary, it's a great romp through some soft/ prog rock riffs and good melodies. I find a couple a little weak, maybe clichéd, but the pace and superb musicianship keep it all afloat. On top of that one of the best songs ever written.
The entire album was actually solid start to finish, really great pace and sound.
It's pretty solid, easy to listen to, accessible, fun. Can't say it stole my heart, but I feel like denying it's solidness would be unfair.
What a freakin one-two punch with more than a feeling and peace of mind! I have a special place in my heart for Boston. I will always treasure my dad and I jamming out to Bostons greatest hits in his Honda accord (of which he still drives). U can definitely hear the “classical music” influences the main composer had on the beginning of Foreplay/long time. Just an unreal blend of classical and power rock sounds. Was hoping to give it a five but it kinda dropped off a little by the end.
Loved it! Reminded me of childhood.
I listened to this one twice over the weekend and I’m still really struggling with the rating. The first three songs might be one of the strongest openings to an album that we’ve had on this list, but I think with how short the run time is and how front loaded the album is, I found myself losing interest towards the end in both listens. I think it’s a great album, but when rating it as a whole, I’m gonna have to go with a four. Hopefully I won’t regret this later on.
Is it impressive or sad that the bands greatest song is the first one off of their first album? Is it more impressive or sad that the bands second greatest song is the second one off their first album? Is it even more impressive or sad that the bands third greatest song is the third one off their first album? Talk about peaking early. This album, especially the first half, is awesome! The last few songs maintain that Boston sound, but don't hit nearly as high. This is the definition of a 4.5/5 album for me. Shout out to that time we were stoned at the Mission Valley movie theater and this album was playing before the movie over the speakers. Matt quizzed Turk on who the band is three times in a row after each consecutive song and he got it wrong every time.
I've been getting a bit tired of all the classic rock I end up listening to on this list but this one was actually great, really enjoyed it. Interesting and lively and the hits mixed in were great throwbacks.
Boston got tunes beyond “More Than A Feeling”. Nice
Some great songs.
Really good.
Die ersten beiden Lieder stechen klar heraus, der Rest ist auch nett
I learned to drive with 80s classic rock, Boston is one of my favorites. Great sound, nostalgic songs.
To me, this is a "very high 4." My only issue with putting it above 4 is that the entire album is not as memorable or great as the singles and a few others. The entire album, in itself, is not as good as it could be, and much of Boston's discography is that way, unfortunately. Boston made some of the greatest rock and roll songs, and the rest of their output is mediocre and doesn't reach the heights of a Big Star or have as many singles to offer as a Journey.
6/8 songs added to playlist. Overall rating is 4/5. Didn’t realise the spaceships are actually guitars!
It all sounds the same in the best way possible.
Enjoyed this way more than expected, would probably listen again
Liked this a lot and can see myself listening to it a lot
😻
More than a feeling is a classic the rest are ok
Solid dad rock.
My kind of dad rock! Lovely vibe
Despite having never listening to this album, I know all of the songs incredibly well. Generally not my genre, never cared for all the travel bands of that era (Boston, Asia, Journey, Chicago…), but it’s hard to deny that these are some fantastic songs. The soaring vocals, melodies, power chords are all there. It’s so 70s you can hear the bell bottoms.
If you only listen to one Boston album make it this one because it may or may not be the only one! It has all the songs on it. Classic 70s Dad-Rock. Wicked rockin
okay
This gave me way More Than a Feeling. It was Smokin’!
Overall the songs are fun and uplifting to listen to with enjoyable melodies, backed instrumentals, enticing instrument playing and chords and whimsical synthetic sounds. The lyrics depict mundane scenarios and generally conveys a sense of optimism and/ or comfort.
Good
“people living in a competition all I want is to have my peace of mind”
Solid dad rock, a bit front heavy but the B side is good too
Evolving, like telling a story
Over half of the songs on this album still get regular radio play. If that's not a sign, I don't know what is.
It's music for old nerds, made by old nerds. It's great. Sure it’s overplayed, but I am fond of nearly every song on here. It’s a bit too “perfect” in the instrumentation as even the guitar solos are double tracked in places and are perfectly in time but that’s their sound. Last three tracks aren’t as good as the beginning but not everything can be a huge hit.
Solid classic rock. Simple vocals, catchy tunes, not overindulgent in the solos.
So hard to rate an album that I knew most of the words and am so familiar with 7 out of the 8 songs because they’ve been on rotation on radio since I’ve been alive. That fact alone means it’s an incredible album, but so familiar that I’ll probably never put it on again.
nice
A classic record. Super impressive that it was mainly orchestrated by one guy
Some of the songs on here should easily make this a 5 but then there are a few that would make it a 3 so I’ve split the difference! Opening track is such a tune anything that comes after is going to disappoint to be honest
Excellent riffs. That really is my biggest takeaway from this album. They were truly unique. Everything else was good, not outstanding or anything, but definitely good. Vocals, instrumentation, and production all complemented each other well. Songwriting was noticeably thoughtful. I enjoyed it. Very good debut. 4/5
Top 5 songs
Epic 80’s
Classic band, I actually did listen to them on and off growing up because of my parents. Its a fun album.
Classic. 4.5/5. not sure whether its a 4 or a 5. Prolly a 4.
More then a feeling isch natürli super. S ganze Album isch solide Rock und versprüeht gueti Luune.
more than a feeling ebe scho banger chamer nöd soo viel sege. wiso isch d stimm so lislig? peace of mind au cool tönt guet cooli gitti scho seehr whiteboy rock. foreplay? im ernst? ok long time slappt no. sie hend gern klatscher. ooookaaay s isch no guuuettt dörfmer en song rock n roll band nenne? jo arena rock hets ussert queen nonig geh hä vor ihne. tönt scho guet. smokincools riff. stimm immerno liislig?
I pretty much wrote off Boston in my youth, but listening to it today I wound up enjoying this album more than I expected to. Musically this mostly rules. It's fun to listen to, and I kept being impressed by the solos and instrumentation. I'm not as excited by the lyrics and vocals, but they complement the music well enough. It's pretty strong overall, though I felt like the final track ended things on a weaker note. I also didn't realize until now that literally every song of theirs I've ever heard before today is on this album, and, with the exception noted before, the songs I hadn't were as good or better. Bonus points for the way the band handled the recording process for this album. I don't know that I need a Boston album in my life, but if I did then I'd only need this one. So I'm fine with it being on this list.
Tight, polished, rock and roll with lots of sustain. Superior boating music!
Not usually a huge fan of generic arena rock, but this is different. Banger after banger. And Hitch a Ride was a much needed break from the sameness of the radio hits preceding it. And best song on the album
king of dad albums and what a debut!! You can tell where they got their influences from and that doesn't bother me. You can also tell how they influenced bands after them. If you like classical music, you'll recognize compositions layered in here rock and roll infused. It's a fun fun album. I lived in Boston for 6 years and this still get played at bars all the time.
Only heard one song from this album previously and really liked it so I was very excited to listen to the whole thing and can safely say it is amazing. I cant believe that this is the band's first full body of work, yet they sound like they are in their prime already.
not really into rock but still a goated album
Solid 70's rock album. Great listen for running. 8/10
Great start!
How can't you just sing along!?
the best dad rock to ever dad rock. catchy as hell, great instrumentation. absurdly cheesy, but very charming.
Rating: 8.5/10 The hits are literally perfect, the rest of the album is good but not nearly to the level of the hits. Peace of Mind is the best Boston song.
I've been trying to play 'more than a feeling' for decades and am nearly there (in my head, anyway). Never heard the rest of the album before. It's all feelgood rock, couple of standouts - 'Smokin' (b side of the single) 'Longtime' and 'Hitch a ride', but it's all good. Solid 4 stars.
Really liked this one as it was a good traditional rock album - think Sian like more than Deb
Boston was never. a favorite of mine, but ya gotta admit, this album has the hits!
The epitome of 70s rock. Nearly every song on this album has been played to death on classic rock radio. It’s well performed and produced but after 40+ years of hearing this, I can’t get excited for it. Not bad, I’m just tired of it.
The sound is FANTASTIC. The guitars, the drums – there is so much to love about how these songs have been played and produced. It's excessive but that's the point. For me though the thing that holds this album back from being 5 stars is the songs themselves. If most of these songs were played by an acoustic singer-songwriter in a pub, I'm not sure I'd stick around. There just isn't a huge amount to them.
This album is one banger hit after another. I had this tape as a kid but forgot how loaded with hits it is. Such a solid band and a fun nostalgia listen.
Nice 70s rock. I would have liked to give it a 3,5 but having to choose between 3 and 4 I'll go for the 4!
Boston is a band that I was raised on, so they will always have a special place in my heart. This album is one of my go-tos when I need to be lifted into a better mood. It has a lot going for it in terms of instrumentation. Tom Scholz used a lot of custom-built equipment and was really ahead of the curve with his studio production techniques, making this album groundbreaking for its time. Even better, the album is very consistent all the way through, with good songs and a smooth, cohesive flow.
Will give this another listen
This was good fun! More Than A Feeling is a strong opening track, really sets the mood and you roll on through from there. This sort of rock is far more my speed than The Strokes, for example.
4/5. Turbūt radijas sugadino norą klausytis dar kartą. Na, bet nepaneigsi kad albumas super.
Turns out I’m not actually sick of More Than a Feeling
Smá Queen í röddunum og smá Darkness í soundinu (leyfum okkur smá anachronisma!). Svaka þéttur áttundatugur... jújú, hysjum þetta upp í fjarka.
Excellent album
Was a nice album to start the morning to. Knew some of the songs before but didn’t know the band or anything so it was a nice surprise haha. Also made me wanna jump into a car and go on a nice summer road trip. Gave me nice vibes.
Love this album although I've heard it many times it never gets old. Great guitar work, excellent lyrics and vocals, it really clicks for me. Also brings back memories of this guy I used to know Dallas who worked at a sheet metal shop with me, he was super cool and loved Boston. Whenever I mentioned any other band to him he would inevitably compare them to Boston.
This is a band who is almost a guilty pleasure. I’ve never been the biggest fan of 1970s rock. However Boston does this style really well and there wall of sound is endearing 4/5
just an incredibly solid rock album the whole way through
It solid and not too long. Could be a three but I'll give it a 4.
You don’t really need to listen to this album. If you’ve listened to any classic rock radio station you’ve heard all these songs before.
This is the album you hear when you go to your friends house and you hear their dad pounding beers and reliving the glory days…peak dad rock.
A really good rock album. There is a really high level of polish that both helps and hurts the album. While it sounds spectacular, it looses a little bit of the real/rawness of rock and roll. Masterfully put together and recorded, fun to listen to, but just lacking a little in soul.
A ton of classics here and some great cuts I've never heard. With a powerhouse as huge as tracks 1-4, they still landed it smoothly with the second half. Favorites were the entire first half and Something About You
This is an album I assumed I would give a 5 to before relistening today. The first side is definitely worthy of such. Just four absolute classics in a row. The second half however was not as good as I remember. While listening I also thought I really liked Something About You. And then I thought “Wait, this sounds kinda familiar”. And then I realized that they just made Peace Of Mind again, but not as good on the other side of the same album.
Obviously, ‘More Than A Feeling’ is imprinted in all our minds, but this album seems to have escaped me. It is, however, quite a belter and worthy of four stars. (Might just listen again…)
This rather took me by surprise and deserves another listen or two
Solid bangers that sound too good to have been recorded in a basement in Watertown
A true Rock 'n' Roll Classic. The opening track is one you'll have heard many, many times, but that hasn't dulled its power. Strong riffs, powerful vocals that you know you've tried to emulate before realising too late that it's *just* a little high, this is top-drawer "play loud with the roof down" stuff.
Lots of good hits and very short. What more do you want?
This is classic rock. No other way to put it.
I spent a large part of my life thinking I hated this... I don't know what I was thinking. Every track here is a banger! I don't think there's a song on here I don't know.
Great classic rock album. Enjoyed the two songs I knew and got to enjoy a good part of this album. The rhodes piano is a funny callback for me. Seems like it was very popular back then. Standouts: More Than a Feeling, Peace of Mind, Foreplay / Long Time, and Hitch a Ride.
Fantastic album! Too bad it's so short.
Surprisingly good
Great dad-rock. You could probably put this entire album on at a wedding and nobody would complain. More Than A Feeling and Peace Of Mind the highlights.
Very good rock album. I can’t believe this was their first album (and their best).
This was FUN. I had a great time. Sure, it's goofy as hell, but I was boppin' around listening to this.
Now this album is hitting me with a question. Is an album that does nothing wrong a 5/5? It feels like nearly every song is a hit. Good instrumentals, blends with the vocals really well, fun lyrics and energy. It's almost built to be easy to enjoy listening to. I don't think it really has any depth but it's perfect surface dad rock. For me, it's great but not a 5.
Another one where the production is almost too slick. It's like non stick. The compositions are pretty strong and make up for the moments of corny lyrics. Foreplay/Long Time is a fun track. There is nothing wrong here, it feels like a curated adventure. You are on the rails for a fine rock'n time. Be sure to visit the gift shop.
4- very few misses, some very iconic songs
I'll be honest, I love this album. It's pinnacle classic rock. Songwriting got there, production quality was there, it was just right in the zeitgeist where it needed to be. Album is no-skips and any track could easily be someone's favorite. Every track is very samey but I don't think that's strictly a detriment. Fav Track: Hitch a Ride
Jag kom hem 23:22 efter Balthvs spelningen. Såg att det var perfekt med tid att lyssna på det här albumet medans jag gjorde natt. Jag gillade det. Gammal rock har sin charm.
Classic, american, rock. One of my personal all time favorites. For the first 5 songs it's a 5 star album, but it loses momentum a bit over the last 3 songs. Endlessly listenable, love this album
They really missed the opportunity to open with foreplay/long time. It would have been one of the best opening tracks to a song ever. Just a slap you in the face intro
It's hard for a band to become this popular from their debut album, but for Boston it is well deserved. This album has some great melodies and harmonies, and good musicality overall
Good rock and roll album and there are 2 songs i already new fairly well which are more than a feeling and smokin’
Great, classic rock sounds. Familiar songs, good tunes.
It's a jam.
More Than a Feeling may be in the top 5 most overplayed songs ever but this is a dad rock classic. 4.5 stars
Classics and the rest also sound like classics
Feel good ambience of a mid 70s album with a typical romance storyline
Dad rock excellence
Enjoyed this album, and I knew a lot of these songs previously! They bring back happy memories of my aunty before she passed What a great song to open the album - More Than A Feeling 4 ⭐️
It starts with the epitome of the dad rock(which I like but it's pretty outdated). However it ends being a very decent album between the 80s heavy metal and some hair metal that I associate morw to the 90s. I'll not remember it for a ling time but it was a god listening session
Surprisingly strong, given how burnt out I am on the hits (and how indifferent I've always felt toward most of them). Listening to them as part of the package they were intended to be heard on really made it click for me. 4/5
I despised this band for so many years. I think it was last year that I listened to this entire album for another project and it blew me away. It’s not something I would typically put on but the production, songwriting, energy level, and overall performances are all incredible, considering this was the band debut album it’s really impressive
Another classic!
😏👌
Pretty decent album, 4/5
Power-pop as slick as a greased up seal on a water slide following a pig rolled in butter jumping into a pool of KY. A record sells 17 million copies for a reason - catchy tunes, radio friendly choruses and perfect production. This album definitely started the swing from metal/blues acts to power-pop domination of the charts; for a short while anyway. Best Tracks: More Than A Feeling; Peace of Mind; Foreplay/Long Time
Really great dadrocker. All the members are incredibly talented at their instruments. Foreplay / Long Time is the highlight for me, although I like a lot of the other songs as well. Does get a point less for how overplayed some of the songs are, even if they're good.
Solid first three tracks then loses steam.
more than a city and more than a feeling
Good, but I prefer Chicago
Liked it, appreciate its iconic. Not my absolute fave. I liked Hitch a Ride.
Pretty damn good!
Jetzt verstehe ich, was der besondere Sound von Boston ist. Sehr Stilbildendes Album!
I'll agree with "played out" and I'll agree with classic rock "cheese". But, got damn isn't cheese delicious? Boston's debut is absolute iconic banger adter banger with a timeless sound and guitar tone that has spawned envy and lawsuits for some 40 years. Tom Stolz absolutely rips guitar and vocals on this legendary classic rock album. I'll also admit they blew their wad on this one. The rest of the discography was rushed, but hey one good album is better than one good song.
Love me some Dad Rock!
This is so good. Boston songs on Boston album are just every where in my musical history. Just 70s songs being 70s.
Dad rock big boss. Very fun. Stand-out: Peace of Mind
Sounds pretty typical, but was a fun listen. Had heard the first song before but the rest was decent.
7.5/10 - Decent rock album. I had heard and liked the first three songs before. The other songs were decent. I liked the non-singing parts in this album more than other rock albums we have gotten so far. Overall pretty good.
