Reviews (page 4 of 15)

I <3 Boston. Just a flat-out good time.

Fantastic

Is this a perfect album?

It's like a greatest hits album.

Absolute classic!

One of my favorite records of all time. I listened to it on my original vinyl for this. One of the first CDs I ever bought was this record. It still love listening to this record.

peak basement rock.. or a single filler song. 5 ⭐️s favorite track: foreplay/ long time other picks: more than a feeling, hitch a ride

Hit after hit. You would be hard pressed to find an album as successful when it comes to radio play. Almost all of the songs on this album are still played regularly and for good reason. Love the energy and I'm a sucker for a good organ sound which this album definitely delivers in spades.

If this had been released 10 years later, it would be significantly less remarkable. But to so flawlessly capture the best parts of 80s rock in the 70s makes this exceptional.

I love every song! Great album!

More than More Than A Feeling.

Such an epic album. I knew most of the songs but the album flows really well and adds more context

Written before I even listened because when this album first came out it shook the world and changed rock music forever. I know the melodies of every song on it from memory. I was in HS then. We first heard the singles on cheap car radios and I remember the first time I heard the album through headphones. It was like nothing I’d ever heard before. Not only did the album have us mesmerized but the technology used to create it (which today can be done digitally) soon provided the means for future musicians to do the same by giving them an easier way to control distortion independently from volume. Many albums on this list are misplaced IMO but not this one. It was a true ground-breaker. I’m giving it a 5 because there is no choice for anything higher.

It only now occurs to me, as I'm about to rate an album I've heard so often, maybe I should have taken this opportunity to try listening to literally anything else Boston has done. Whoops.

The fact that I remember when this came out and I know how much it was loved by myself and my peers- probably has something to do with me giving this a 5. But listening to it over the weekend, it is still a really good album. I was singing along to every song and loved it.

ultimate dad rock. i love it, although i also listened to classic rock in high school

It’s a 4-ish on sound alone, but learning that Tom Scholz recorded most of it in his basement while sending a fake band to a studio to trick the label? That’s worth the extra star.

feels like the wind, smooth for a car ride .

Lots of hits on this album! 5/5

You remember my theory about innovators and consolidators? Of course you do, you read all my reviews you beautiful, completionist bastard. Well, in addition to the theory that there are the two different types of artist, it’s also possible for there to be different sub-sections within each type. The one I’d like to focus in on today is the perfecters, of which I think Boston by Boston is a, ahem, perfect example. Never particularly deviating from the formula of Arena Rock, Boston is still a great piece of art, and it is pretty much a perfect album. And there’s a place for that. Not all art has to be pushing it’s form forward, there has to be a standard form for the Innovators to react against. And that’s where the Perfecters come in. When bands like Boston, the one-album wonders, the not really great artists, are releasing the great records, it’s a sign that the Art Form needs to move on. And so, although I really do like it, it’s also fascinating in it’s position as being possibly the last great Album Rock album before Punk tore the genre down. It all leads to a really good listen, not just as music but also as a document of a particular moment in music history

Judging by only "More Than a Feeling", it has more modern guitar play than the rock tracks that came 20 or even 30 years later. I can pretty much hear the music that other, future bands got inspired from. Awesome. Give me more of this.

I am not a huge fan of the band, and the whole album has a very similar sound (less "cohesion" and more "repetitive"), but for a debut album RECORDED AT HOME to be so full of bangers, that's good enough for me. 5/5

This album tore out my heart and took it away. 5/5. I do not know what else to say but after listening I was stolen by aliens

I first heard this in my Dads vinyl collection when I was young and fell in love with it instantly, the first two tracks More Than A Feeling and Piece Of Mind stand out for me but everything on this album is solid gold. Considered one of the greatest debut albums of all time and it lived up to it.

Every song just sounds so happy

Lempparit: Peace of Mind ja Something About You Vähiten lempparit: Foreplay/Long time

Love it, always have and always will

Always hated their album artwork but this album is wall to wall bangers. Stand out tracks: - More than a feeling - Rock and roll band - just the whole album

5 stars

5 stars all the way. It's amazing how much great music they packed into 8 tracks and 30 minutes.

One of my all time favorites. I listened to this as a kid, and will often pull this classic out when I need something to get me focused. There is not a bad song on this album. One of the top 10 of all time.

I really underestimated this album. This was considered classic rock when I was growing up, and is what I grew up with, but recently I've been tired of a lot of those bands and I think I may have been mixing up Journey and Boston, and am definitely tired of Journey. This album is an incredible debut and the entire track list is all hits that are still good almost 50 years later. Could not get these songs out of my head for a while. Considering the fact this is a debut, and its impact and longevity it has to be a 5. Favorite track "Rock and Roll Band" 5/5

Wonderful! Forgot about a few of these songs!

I'll say it: it's the single greatest debut album in the history of rock music. Can't even pretend to apologize to Appetite for Destruction, which is a distant second. This is the perfect Classic Rock album.

5.0. Every song is a hit. Great album.

I think every record collector had this and ELO back in the 70s. A massive album and deservedly so.

Iconic front to back. One of the best classic rock albums of all time

It's a tough life in this day and age truly thinking this is one of the greatest albums ever made. No one's gonna agree with you :( that being said this is the best thing ever, when I think of classic rock or dad rock or whatever you wanna call it this is what i think of to a T. Some completely iconic powerballads with crazy soaring harmonies, stunning harmonising guitar solos, wildly exciting organ parts, including a raucous blues number in there, a self referential song, several love songs, then close it out with an absolute SLAMMER that also slows it down a bit. This album IS the new york pizza or hot dog, it IS that street meat you got that the 5 star restaurant could never hold a candle to. I can talk all day about what I want from an album, the thought I want an artist to put into something, what consideration of history I think is important to make something an all time great, why sentiments of songs hit or fall flat for me. I'm sure I could say all of this about this album too and justify thinking it's so good, I COULD talk all day about what makes something great, or I could just sit there and appreciate that what I want has already been made, and it's amazing

Something really neat about this project, even though I haven't been great at keeping up, is that it can kind of pick and set a vibe for you. Would I have had the day I had if "more than a feeling" wasn't in my head? I love Dad rock I love stadium rock this is such a fun album. Blatantly heterosexual but not aggressively so. A guy you have a great convo with in a bar and that's all. Keyboart.

Absolute classic

Hits for days.

Really, doesn't get much better

Anyone with parents my age knows this has a handful of generational hits on it. Specifically the first three songs, that’s an all-time track list. it’s insane how the first like 5-6 songs are all played on classic rock radio as hit singles. They figured out how to write a killer pop chorus, how to harmonize on it, and ran with that formula. As with most hit albums, my only criticism is that it’s a bit front-loaded. Last 2-3 songs are a bit lackluster. But holy shit. I acknowledge the nostalgia clouding my vision on this one, but I also think it’s fair to say this is one of the best, most succinct American classic rock albums

Classic.

One of the soundtracks to my teenage years.

Highlights: More Than a Feeling, Peace of Mind, Rock & Roll Band Leave Em's: Hitch a Ride Overall Thoughts: The musicality of this album and of Boston is so distinguishable and pumps me up each time I hear their guitar laden openings. This album has a series of some of my favorite classic rock songs of all time and I am not the only one who feels that way. The band balances their songs well between great instrumental solos and infectiously good hooks and catchy lines. A top tier album of its decade and its genre deserves a top tier rating, and it earned every bit of its perfect score. Score Breakdown: 5 & 4.188 -> 4.594

Awesome 70s sound!

A great guitar rock album

I'm more surprised about a good album on this list than I am about this album being good.

I've never given this album any thought. Tonight I was astonished that I knew and loved every track. Most of the songs I didn't know who the band was. This is an incredible collection of perfect pop rock for it's time.

15/10 no notes.

This album is so special. I listened to it so much in high school, singing along but not having my own experiences to relate to the lyrics. Over a decade later now, hearing these songs again forces me to look back and appreciate the people in my life who aren't there any more, for any reason. Just an incredible rock record, in my top 25 albums of all time.

the best sound of any gig I saw at Newcastle City Hall in the olden days this is a great album

The first time I listened to this album was on the day I signed up for this project. I remember liking it, but not really getting what everyone was raving about. Now I'm the one raving about the vocals (the harmonies!), the guitars, the organ... Epic!

Just brilliant, not a duff note.

This was a really good album. It was upbeat and fun, good vibes and singing. I enjoyed how consistent and solid it was.

Really great album. Quick, punchy, catchy. No wasted songs here. 4.5 but on the 5 side.

Amazing album start to finish.

Every song on this album is a classic. Hard to give it anything less than a 5. Even though I've heard these songs countless times, they still hit and that's what makes Boston so good.

Boston’s blockbuster self-titled debut marries complex recording techniques with instantly-memorable melodies to create an iconic classic arena rock sound.

Great album

This is a tough one. I'm right on the edge of a 4 or 5. Great album, very enjoyable and probably the best 3 song start to an album of all time. There is some repetition as the album goes on, but it's short enough that it isn't bothersome. Since this is probably the second or third best album on this list I've heard in 60+ albums, I'll give it the 5. 9/10 (4.5/5)

Nearly perfect summer day drinking album. Banger after banger, no filler. Memorable melodies, love the vocal harmonies and of course the guitar harmonies. Easy 5.

Just straight creamy

Every song is a hit

THIS is the type of rock i love.

Wow. This is such a great album. Not exactly what I would choose to listen to, but I can't deny how great it is. So many hits. And the ones that weren't big hits are really solid. Great rock album.

Another all time great. That's 2 this week. More Than a Feeling hits you right in the feels. Every track is great. As close to a perfect album as you're going to get. 5 stars all day.

essential nostalgia for me which means i'm biased but seriously a staple. intro to foreplay / long time is almost muse-esque ?? banger after banger fantastic guitar solos and also named after my hometown... what more can you even ask for

Good dad rock album

Top notch self entitled

I was expecting this one to eventually come up, and was looking forward to it. The most incredible debut album of all time in my opinion. How did they go a perfect 8 for 8? Every song got radio play and most still do to this day. The vocal harmonies, the guitar harmonies, the drum fills, the organ in Smokin', everything comes together into a fully cohesive album that is basically perfect. They had a couple of hits after this, but would never be able to come close to what they achieved here. 5/5

One of the best freshman albums. Every song was a hit.

Maybe a top ten all timer

Time to crank it up! I love this album so much, but didn't get into it until I was in my 30s. Now it is one of my favorites. The composition and production on this album are all stellar. Favorite Song: Foreplay/Longtime

classic rock icon

Listening to this I thought it was an easy 4 from me, but as I kept thinking, I really have no good reason to not make it a 5. It's cheesy, but is it trying to be anything but? Epic in the true meaning of the word with soaring vocals and tigh harmonies, catchy riffs and and snappy, pacey groove, it really is a 5.

One of the greatest albums out of the 80s. Quintessential 80s rock that I love.

This album had amazing energy from start to finish. Starting off with "More Than a Feeling", "Peace of Mind", and "Foreplay/Long Time" is such a strong first 3 songs that the rest of the album could have been white noise and I would still give this atleast a 4. Thankfully the back half of the album is also solid, if not quite as good. I can see how this album was yhe best selling debut album at the time of its release. Foreplay/Long Time may be one of the best rock songs ever written and the transition between the two parts is music genius.

Has to be up there with one of the greatest debut albums. Ive loved this album ever since I heard it for the first time. Classic rock perfected. The first four songs are just pure bliss and I can't help singing along.

Full of bangers. Almost no skips.

Super classic. Is it the best? No, but it sure does hit the spot.

OK, this is the brainchild of a producer and studio wizard - namely Tom Scholz - and it is AOR and it is 1976. Doomed to failure, full of clichés. Rarely has an AOR record to this day had such polished and meticulous songwriting, rarely have the lyrics been less clichéd than here, rarely have such consistent instrumental mastery and flawless execution met less pretentiousness in the individual instruments. Even today, this still sounds fresh, coherent and more like a band than what most of their successors and today's contemporary bands were/are capable of delivering. This is a great record, no matter what style you prefer. You can argue about taste and preference, but not about technical and musical quality. It's not my taste. But I love it.

Truly classic

Never actively listened to this alb before. But, thanks to classic rock radio, I knew every single song!

not much to say except this album fucking rules. great debut by Boston and it doesnt overstay its welcome.

An easy 5 stars. In my opinion this is the best debut album by any band. Perfect from top to bottom

A quintessential classic rock album. I'm really not sure what more you can ask for from this genre.

Classic

Sold album that can be listened to from start to end. Had most their major hits, and didn't overstay it's welcome.

Has to be one of the best rock n' roll debut's of all time. Such a shame they were never able to recapture the magic on this album. It's almost hard to find any albums from any artist anywhere with exclusively bangers for each song. But for a band to do it on their first record and then essentially fall off the face of the earth is so bizarre. Reading up on the wiki and learning about record label fuckery just makes me like this band even more. As I was familiar with this whole record going in I thought for sure it'd be getting a 4. But after listening, and learning some of the aforementioned info - I gotta give it a 5. Especially considering some of the other 4's I've given on this list, definitely not as strong as this record. Really wish I could do .5 stars but alas here we are - my next five outta five!

I am a white trash American. My hair naturally grows into a mullet with porkchop side burns. This album is in my DNA.

During my childhood and early teen years, this was my favorite album of all time. I'll never forget the first time hearing it in our Dad's car...it blew me away. The tone of the guitars are absolutely perfect and the production is top notch. Tom Scholz may be one of the most underrated guitarists ever, but people also forget what a phenomenal keyboard player he is too! This is one of those examples of a greatest hits album. Pure perfection! Favorite tracks: all of them!

I loved hearing this again - took me back to my college days. Even before I read up on the album, I recognized how much classical music played a part in the creation. My son is a musician and audio engineer so I loved being more aware of the complexities of this album.

Hit after hit after hit after hit. Ubiquitous

Legendary classic rock, starts out with three major bangers and holds up to the test of time.

Boston - Boston One of the greatest debut albums ever! This album is a banger. 5/5

Classic. Love it everytime

Classic, one of the all time great debut albums

Bangers all the way through. 5/5

100% certified bangers. I remember this album being in my parent's vinyl collection and thinking the art was neat.

Hmmmm. Boston. Nothing more than a guilty pleasure track ‘More than a Feeling’. Well, now I’ve actually listened to a Boston album for the first time, it’s now a guilty pleasure album. I love it all. Cheesey as hell, but it definitely scratches an itch or two. This one landed on a Friday so I’ve had a whole 3 days to decide if I’ve lost the plot. But it’s late on a Sunday night and I’m still air-guitaring like a twat and hand-clapping along with terrible timing. So it’s an unashamed massive FIVE from me. Good night and party on. 🤘🏻

Wouldn’t say that I was a fan, but I knew every song. Super strong album.

Good old classic rock

Fabulous album, not a bad song on it.

Forgot how good this album is, start to finish. They never matched this, but a straight ahead rock album that stands up today.

I know every note of this album by heart.

This album absolutely slaps and I'm not usually a big fan of Classic Rock. The drummer is the heart of every track and I'd even endure a 20 minute drum solo in a smoky arena with shitty acoustics and cheap beer if I could travel back in time to hear them live just once. Interesting that Scholz recorded the whole thing nearly by himself; an engineering visionary.

Literally every single song is a stone cold classic.

AMAZING

I have not listened to this album yet but I do know about Boston and have seen this album cover. I truly loved listening to all these songs, just classic rock that can easily boost your mood. I recognized: More than a feeling (I even knew that that song would be on this album). All the tracks were really good but the one to stand out to me was: Peace of mind. I will definitely listen again!

Bit of a personal one for me - literally. Brad Delp had a love affair with a friends mom in high school that inspired More Than A Feeling. We always got a kick out of that story growing up, not least of which because Boston is an incredible band, and More Than A Feeling is such an epic track. Peace of Mind and Long Time are up there as well of course. Brad Delp's voice is truly legendary and I love that Boston has made its way onto this list as a result. 70s/80s rock at its finest.

every song rocks!

A timeless classic

Interesting blurb and catchy music

Wow, Awesome - this album is terrific. I love "Bodton" it's a band you will love too!!!

This is in the high fours… if it weren’t so overplayed I’d go five. Ehh… I’ll give it a 5 anyway. Those harmonies. Classic.

Near-perfect. Great rock songs and one superclassic. Great production. Together with REO Speedwagon's Hi Infidelity, two of the best classic radio rock albums ever made.

It's a shame most people only know them for 'More Than A Feeling' because this whole album is amazing

aura farm

More than a Feeling is quintessential Classic Rock.

This album is so damn good.

All time classic

First album that I know well, and it’s one of my favorites!! A lot of depth layered within the songs that is easy to miss on a quick listen. And such a great debut for a band too

Spectacular!

A total classic from beginning to end. Arguably a perfect rock album.

Nothing but the best! This is one of the first albums I bought when I came back to the states as a kid.

Wore out my 8 track version of this album and blew up my Jenson Triaxial speakers.

Finally. Some real music! lol Still a great album after all these years.

This album reminds me of the summer after junior and senior year of high school. Cruising around in my buddy Mike's Durango and playing disc golf. Anybody that doesn't crank up Long Time to top volume and play air drums and/or guitar has no soul.

Why even write a review. Boston's eponymous debut is a cultural icon. Practically all the songs were hits and are now staples of classic rock. Production was innovative and near perfect for the time. It fused elements of hard rock sounds and prog rock virtuosity into a new kind of music. The studio innovations including the way they did the overdubs, may be the norm today but were invented by the group's guitarist, Tom Scholz. The list goes on. Probably the greatest album of the 1970s and one of the greatest of all time.

Having such a bit hit of an album that has endured for so long risks the songs becoming less interesting after being overplayed for so many years. But listening to this album in the context of this project, alongside so many mediocre albums, really highlights its strength and how solid it is all the way through. It's Smokin'!

If you like guitar rock, this album is for you. Great lyrics, singing, instrumentation, arrangement. Very clean sounding guitars. Love the whole album.

MUST HAVE!

Short album - all songs are a winner! Just a feel good 40 minutes!

No bad songs, just a vibe. Thought it was too overplayed but listened to it anyways and it still works.

As I’ve stated before, I am a classic rock superfan and this has been in my top ten since it was released. Tom Schlotz and band are amazing here. Great guitar sounds and keyboard! My 2 favs from the 60’s. Brought back together here. Foreplay/Long Time is a rock anthem for all time!

A 70’s rock classic. No filler - every one of these songs has been played on FM radio - few bands can claim that. Boston didn’t create air guitarists, but they certainly supplied them with some choice material. I closed my eyes and she slipped away…

Masterpiece. Top 20 rock album.

Great music

Yeeeessssssssssss Listening to More Than a Feeling at work in the morning brings me back. This album is just banger after banger. The beginning of Foreplay/Long Time goes so hard.

Great from start to finish. A truly well-crafted album.

A perfect album for its time and place.

I've listened to this so many times it's hard to be unbiased. As far as basic guitar/drum classic rock, I don't think you can get much better.

parents of skate-pop-punk

Now THIS is music that makes you feel! Every track is pure gold and you can feel the love and joy of the band members the whole way through. This is precisely what is missing in almost everything released in the past 25 years!! An album to stranded on a desert island with. Wish I could give it 6 stars.

All bangers

Already have this album on vinyl, Love it. Every song is great

Boston was my high school best friend’s favorite band. I can’t listen to Boston without thinking of Jackson Ostler. I bought a Boston Greatest Hits CD in sophomore or junior year (almost every song from this album was on that CD) and it got heavy rotation in the ‘84 Ford. I bought this album here a few years ago on wax at a used record swap and listen to it often. So there’s some history here, haha. Great music, incredibly catchy, upbeat, technically excellent, and filled with nostalgia. “More Than A Feeling” is a rare song that usually gives me the chills when listening. “Rock and Roll Band” is the one that’s been stuck in my head since listening on Friday. A few songs toward the end are very forgettable, but that’s ok. And did you know that this album was written, produced, and recorded almost exclusively by one guy, an MIT student at the time? So cool. 4.5 stars. Hard choice if that makes a 5 or dips to a 4 due to the lameness of a few end songs. Let’s give it a 5. Loved it, own it, will re-listen.

I love boston's sound. This is my most listened to album from them but it slaps. I may be a little biased because I listened to it growing up but it still holds up. Boston is one of my top classic rock artists 5 stars

When this one popped up I threw my head back and laughed while making some remark such as "Oh dear God, this!" Then followed by a groan but then feelings of weird excitement. In all it's heavy cheese, this one is and always has been a serious guilty pleasure. In all honesty, despite its over exposure and over the top nature, this is a solid album which hits a more emotional chord these days and feels very genuine. Some of these songs have a weird gospel flair to them which I like, thanks mostly to the use of Deep Purple/ELP like organ parts and the vocal harmonies. It makes complete sense that Michael Sweet fronted this band for a while. In this recent listen I definitely noticed some serious power pop going on which made me draw a possibly odd comparison. Take a moment to imagine someone like Alex Chilton performing more striped down versions of these songs, particularly Peace of Mind, Hitch a Ride, and Something About You... You're welcome. Ironically, as a staple of corporate rock FM, the story of how this album came to be is seriously DIY with some punk attitude. I'm not going to actively listen to this, but at the same time, it's hard to deny. Still very enjoyable.

Classic rock album. Great composition, outstanding lead vocals with tight harmonies.

Me ha molado bastante la verdad.

Me gustó mucho un rock muy chulo me dio una vibe san junipero super positiva muy buena onda me gustó

Distinctive sound- they really were at the forefront of this rock-power-theatre. Everything from the cover to the guitar and over the top vocals is iconic. Sure there were others as well but few did it so well.

Fantastic rock album that holds up very well over the decades.

A classic.

Still great!

Banger after banger. Absolutely no fluff on this record. Classic rock classic.

It was good

clapclapclapclapclapclapclapclapclapclapclapclapclapdoodledeeedoooooooodledeedeedoodeeedooodeedoooreeeedooooreeereeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeclapclapclapclapclapclapclapclapclapclapclapclap 4.5/5

Mega Album

Excellent, a classic!

That’s a great album

Some of it sounds timeless, some of it sounds dated, but all of it sounds amazing. From the opening juggernaut that is More Than A Feeling, right to the end of the album I loved this. After a hard day back at work after a 2 week holiday, this was just what I needed this afternoon.

Great to hear this was a Saturday clean house album for us back in the day.

Historic album for me. I had the original vinyl album and wore it out as a 14-15 year old... inspirational still....

INCREDIBLE ALBUM

Enjoy every song on album!

1/3/24

Great memories of this album from my high school days.

Superb debut by an excellent band!

Classic for a reason

Tom Scholz was a MechE at MIT who recorded this record for fun in his basement with a few friends, using rudimentary recording techniques, and it turned out to become one of the best-sounding rock albums of the decade. It's a 1976 record but established the anthemic-style of arena rock way before glam metal took over the scene, with limited contemporaries like Bad Company. And yet, this album manages to cement over half the record into the classic rock canon. There is not a single classic rock radio in the country that doesn't regularly play the first 3 tracks, and I'm sure a good portion of those also has "Rock & Roll Band" and "Smokin" on their rotation. Insanely catchy with memorable riffs and choruses to sing along to. Scholz plays a dozen different instruments with strong effects of reverb and distortion to make the record feel so alive and eternal. There's an otherworldly atmosphere that matches the cover. In many songs, guitar notes and singing trail off, giving feelings that the music isn't going away soon. They use acoustics and folky singing styles to give personal, nostalgic feels to the songs, which allow the audience to emotionally invest into each track. "Foreplay" incorporates space rock, while "Smokin" borrows from rockabilly. There's a lot in store here. The album is perfect in the first 6 tracks, and a fitting track order to keep audiences engaged. The last 2 are forgettable and a weak way to close the record. "Hitch a Ride" would have been a more satisfying closer. I'm still giving it the full 5 stars, but I'd advise cutting out the last 2 tracks.

There wasn’t a bad track on this album. Just banger after banger after banger.

Sehr gutes Rock-Album. Kannte ich noch nicht. Gute Orgel-Riffs und Gitarren-Soli. Kann man öfters hören. Empfehlung für Stevens.

Literally more than a feeling. Absolute masterpiece.

Classic Rock. Start to Finish this is exceptional. One of the best debut albums ever. 5-Star Songs: More Than a Feeling, Peace of Mind, Foreplay/Long Time, Smokin', Rock & Roll Band, Hitch a Ride, Let Me Take You Home Tonight 4-Star Songs: Something About You. 5/5

One of my favorites

I forgot how much I like Boston.

One of the greatest rock n roll albums of all time. Not much in particular to comment about but the vocals are great and music is fantastic. Fucking bomb dude. 9/10

The most classic hard rock band putting out the most classic hard rock album I have ever heard. Pretty much banger after banger. These songs are so well known that they have entered into the overplayed status. The production on this album is insane. Every sound is deliberate, every scream is intentional, every thing is as it should be. If you needed to show someone who has never heard hard rock a hard rock album this would be the one to show them. 9/10

Has to be one of the best first five songs on a debut album, or even any album. The combination of distortion, acoustic guitars, electric organ, harmonies, and lead vocals is incredible. The album art is amazing as well. The baroque elements, especially on Smokin' are very interesting and fit right in somehow.

one of the greatest classic rock albums of all time. tom scholz, brad delp and the boys kill it with their debut album and its revolutionary sound for the time. side one might be my favourite three songs to open an album. if you hear “more than a feeling” playing on the touchtunes at the bar i am at, i played it. fun fact: michael sweet of stryper was actually singing for boston for a hot minute. this was in 2008. highlights: “more than a feeling”, “peace of mind”, “foreplay/long time”, “rock and roll band”.

If you can't appreciate that this is an outstanding album, I don't know what hope there is for you. #ontheattack

What’s to say?

There's a reason practically every track was in the rotation of every classic rock station for decades. Great album.

I think I'm a Boston fan now.

🔥🔥🔥 Literally perfect.

Must relisten again

Have loved this record since i was a kid. The very rare older album that doesn’t have one second on it worth a skip.

5/5 Wow!

A classic! It was sad to read about the lead singer's suicide.

All-Time banger after All-Time banger. A flawless classic rock album.

So many hits....

Great album!

Je ne connaissais pas du tout. Du pur rock qui fait plaisir !

Absolutely love this album. One of the classics of classic rock.

Every song is hit

Absolutely amazing album. This is one of those albums that is just killer. Can't say enough good about it. It's like the Cars first album in that every song is terrific.

One of the greatest albums of all time. I would have lost my shit hearing this live back in the day. I went to a Boston concert in 2014 and it was incredible.

Really enjoyed this album

What an album, heard it before on multiple occasions, personally one of my favourite bands from this genre.

One of my happy albums, album drops at the last 2 songs for me but a awesome album.

So many bangers on this album! I’ve heard many of them before…but had no idea they came from this album/band!

Own the vinyl of this ones, love it !

Album starts right away with a banger "More than a feeling". It's just amazing. So far the album is really solid with energetic vocals, ecstatic guitar riffs and just a pure energy. What an ending. I'll have to reheard the album again for sure. Loved this album.

Overall great, nice guitar tone and harmonies. Reminded me of an evolved thin lizzy

Greatest debut album ever.

fuck yeah

Boston Genre: Hard Rock, Arena Rock 1976 CLASSIC! 5/5 Standouts: More Than A Feeling, Piece of Mind, Foreplay/Longtime, Rock & Roll Band, Smokin', Hitch a Ride, Something About You, Let Me Take You Home Tonight

Who doesn't love more than a feeling?

One of my favorite classic rock bands. I remember listening to this album on a long car ride with my mom

I know I've mentioned this album in at least one other review here. I think this may be one of, if not the best debut album a band has released. At least in terms of having a fully fleshed out sound. A lot of bands have great first albums but aren't necessarily indicative of the sound the band becomes known for. Anyway, this album means a lot to me. It was one of the first LPs I ever got. I can't deny that the unique and iconic guitar tone that Boston had a huge influence on my love of guitar now. 'More than a Feeling' and 'Peace of Mind' are two of my all-time favorite songs. This album like many others has been here for me and for that I give it a perfect 5. Don't Look Back and everything after kind of blow tbh

Brought me back- my brothers listened to this album constantly- Boston didn’t hold back- fun to listen to it again

Combination of jam band, pure 70’s rock with some hair metal. This album is goood

Geht ab

Yeah this absolutely hit after hit. A true classic that deserves to be played everywhere. It is so impressive.

This album was quite the pleasant surprise. I had of course heard of this album before but I can see now why it is such a famous work. It starts strong with More Than a Feeling and that track along with Peace of Mind and Foreplay / Long Time were my personal favorites off the album. The latter half was still good but that beginning really starts things off strong and is hard to beat. Hitch a Ride and Something About You were a strong end to this album. Boston really combines a variety of instrumentation in a way that is interesting. Acoustic and Electric guitars are used which creates a very distinct sound. Along with the lead vocals the sound of this album is quite unique and recognizable. Definitely a classic rock album that I plan to revisit in the future.

What a pleasure to get to listen through this today. It took Tom Scholz seven years to record and mix this album, and while that is pretty insane, the results are hard to argue. I really love the mix of instruments — I mean, it's a rock band, but the blend of acoustic and electric guitars, the use of the harmony guitars, the epic organ. It's just so well arranged and conceived. And then there's Brad Delp, who somehow doesn't seem to get included in "best rock vocalists" lists but is undeniably one of the all-time greats — his self-harmonies are out of this world. His suicide still leaves me deeply sad. So, even if every single song isn't the greatest song ever, they are all so well presented, and the ones that kick are so fucking brilliant — yeah, this gets an easy 5.

This is just glorious music from beginning to end. Everything sounds great. That guitar tone is justifiably celebrated. Brad's vocals are legendary. The drumming. The hooks. The harmonies. The production. And "More Than a Feeling" is simply one of my favorite songs. I never get tired of hearing it. It had been a while since I listened to the whole album and I was stunned at how great every song is. What a debut. I'm amazed at how perfectly formed these guys were out of the gate.

Just a perfect album.

In the summer of 1979 I played this day after day. One of my all-time favorites and a magnificent debut album.

Fuck yeah Bring it in and on

Boston by Boston from Boston. Shame there's not a song on here that's also called Boston. Some cheesy, fun 70s hard rock that just slaps and never misses a beat. A great classic rock album. Favourite: More Than a Feeling

Never heard this before. I thought it was a fun listen. It was really entertaining and well crafted. I didn’t think it was overly cheesy like the other person said.

One of the best rock albums ever

The best!

Every song is a classic. The whole album just rocks. More Than a Feeling, classic. Foreplay/Longtime has probably one of the greatest intros ever, the way the songs flow together seamlessly is just wow. Rock and Roll Band, and Smokin' also classic songs. Every song was a recognizable staple of classic rock. Excellent album

6/8, 75%

This is one of those automatic 5 albums for me. One of my favorite albums of all time. Every song is a banger. Best selling album of all time when it first came out. I think my mom has said something along the lines of "Of course I have that album, everybody had that album!" This is also an incredible album to be a band's first. Love this album, glad I got to listen again.

Just outstanding musical craftsmanship.

Very nice!

I love getting these banger albums on Fridays so I can go into the weekend with good music

classic

what a great album! basically a greatest hits album for boston since all these tracks are solid (and they never really had any other huge hits except maybe amanda). this is another album i know primarily through Rock Band and it's baffling that we got only 7 of the 8 tracks in the game (sorry, let me take you home tonight, someone at harmonix has it out for you) favorites: more than a feeling, peace of mind, foreplay/long time, smokin'

Oldie but goodie

Classic rock is classic, and it doesn’t get much more classic rock than this. It’s almost a one-hit wonder album, as there wasn’t much left in the tank of Boston through the late 70s and 80s. Still, what an album. If you like power pop, then this is on your Mt Rushmore.

What's to say about this album that hasn't been said? It falls in the rare category of albums that could be a greatest hits package on its own. Every song on here is catchy, well-written 70's rock music that can be played in any situation. The harmonies are tight. The guitar solos are fiery. A crowd-pleaser of an album if I've ever heard one. And it's one of my dad's favourites, so that seals the deal. Love you Dad.

Classic! Great collection of songs!

Un Certified Hood Classic dans ma bibliothèque de disque, il tient toujours le titre de chef d’oeuvre de Rock and Roll

Listened to this album 1001 times. Five star.

This is a STRONG album. Always liked it, lots of bops

This is a favorite, looking forward to this! Trying to remember if I often got to the end of the album when it was in regular rotation. The Hitch a Ride guitar solo is an awesome example of the soaring 70s guitar sound - amazing! More than a Feeling is a favorite song of all time.

awesome 5 stars

Excellent album, dad rock gold

All-time great album for me. Love it from start to finish!

I still remember every note and lyric, and it’s still perfection. Engineer rock for sure, with the precision and perfectionism. But also great composition and technique, and I love the harmony.

Loved it! I've loved "More Than a Feeling" forever, but never knew the rest of the album is as good. This is the archetype of great rock albums.

'More Than A Feeling' was the only song I liked at first but gave the album a second listen and you can add 'Peace of Mind,' 'Smokin' and 'Hitch a Ride' to that list. Solid album.

Own on Vinyl

I unabashedly love Boston. Such a fun album. 4.5/5

There are songs that are pure joy, More Than A Feeling is one of those songs. If I hear it on the radio or randomly via a playlist it lifts my spirits immediately. Yes is a little "dad-rock" but who cares this is music you can enjoy anywhere. An absolute classic of its genre, timeless.

I love this album so much!

I vaguely knew that Boston was some classic classic rock. But I'm not sure I could have correctly identified a Boston song? I had a similar experience with Steely Dan, and it's great to be able to connect a name to these classic rock favorites. With Steely Dan, it was only 3 songs. But "Boston" was like Fleetwood Mac's "Rumors." I knew almost all of these songs! I had definitely never realized how big Boston was, or that this was, at the time, the best-selling debut album ever (it has only been passed by 5 others since then). Not only were these songs familiar, they feel timeless. And hearing them all in one place somehow made each track stronger, knowing that they weren't one or two hits amongst more forgettable material, but rather a start to finish blitz of some of the purest classic rock to exist.

One of the greatest debut albums in all of rock. One of the greatest guitar albums in all of rock. If you can’t get into this, you might be broken inside.

already knew this album, good through and through

actually really liked this one, not super surprised it's here. I think More than a feeling, between the soundtrack, melody, lyrics and the singer's ability to hit those really high notes is an absolute masterpiece in my opinion, and the rest of the songs here are honestly not much worse. I think the only thing I didn't like was Foreplay/Long Time's intro which felt too long (but was cool in its own right), everything else is top tier

curto ja pela nostalgia com guitar hero, baita som

Love this album. Front to back one of my favorites. Own on vinyl and listen often. 5/5

Everything 70s hard rock wanted to be. The best of Classic Rock Radio core

Apparently I've been sleeping on Boston! This album was so polished from start to finish. These guys can jam! Lead vocals were wild. Guy on keyboard knows what's up

God damn is this album good. Every single song is a banger.

From the upside down guitars / UFOs of the album sleeve to the absolutely belting "More than feeling" into, there's sense of promise in this album that's hard to match. Fortunately, the rest of the album pretty much does match it. Not quite the heights of the initial highs, but there's a fizzing energy that's through this album like it's Blackpool rock. I very much approve.

Back when I was alive this was an incredible album to listen to. Enjoyed it again today

There's a reason this record is on every "top debut albums" list. It's got everything you expect from a 70s rock classic: dancy rock'n'roll rhythms, prog explorations, electric organ solos, and vocal harmonies. But what makes it unique, in my opinion, is the unusual sound which is simultaneously light and sharp, upbeat and lyrical.

This is one of the first albums I ever owned. And, yep, it was an 8-track tape. Ah, yes, the limits of 8-track tapes: one of my favorite songs, 'Hitch A Ride', had to be faded out in the middle of it then faded back in on a new track because they couldn't make it fit. I probably wore that thing down to nothing in a few years. I will always love this album and all the songs on it. There's no way for me to separate the time travel I experience when I hear these tracks, which transport me back to age 12 when I listened to this album incessantly and couldn't believe how amazing it was, from the music itself, so I won't even try. I do encourage people to read up on Tom Scholz. Such a fascinating person. And what a superb musician, wow! Brad Delp's story is very sad. My heart breaks for people who knew him and cared for him. What an album. To me, it contains the best and most positive attributes of 70s rock and pop. So easy to make fun of, I know, but here, on this album, it just shines so beautifully.

I know the joke is that this record is in every vinyl collection out there, but personally, I've never heard this album before! I was pretty excited to get to finally experience it for the first time, and it did not disappoint! Just a great, unique sound from the get-go that made me realize, yes, I have heard this band's songs before. I can imagine the fatigue some people felt with this album based on how many times I've heard 'More Than a Feeling,' but I think this is a standout record if you don't have that fatigue. Great vocals, great guitar, great drums, great everything. Just a classic-feeling album. Oh, and the album art slays even after all these years.

Oooh deeze is genieten!

After reading about how this album was basically made by Tom Sholz in his basement, and basically passed off to executives as a professional job, I'm far less embarrassed to say this is exactly up my street. I should have been born 20 years earlier so I could have experienced the 70s.

Pop rock guitar greatness. An absolute testament to a basement rock guitar sonic explorer. And Brad Delp - what an extraordinary voice!!

Awesome

Hit after hit

Didn’t know this would be one of the big boys! Partway through the second song, which I like, I thought this album might suffer from the "Doolittle" problem of started with the best song, but by the middle of the third song - which I thought was the fourth due to its delightful intro, a Colosseum-style keyboard nerdout demanding a centaur on cosmic flute - I muttered, this record covers a lot of ground, and so far all of it is happy. And then onto some pleasing chug. Sex is there, but not scuzzy; more that of teenage premature ejaculators, polite and thankful afterwards. Seeing that most of the music is played by one guy, without looking up more about him I've decided he's a proto-Malkmus. Where's his "Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain"? You're going to tell me the rest of the records are awful.

Now you're climbin' to the top of the company ladder Hope it doesn't take too long Can't cha see there'll come a day when it won't matter Come a day when you'll be gone I understand about indecision But I don't care if I get behind People living in competition All I want is to have my peace of mind Such a great fucking album. Every track is a killer and the theme is an outstanding vision of rock in the US in the 1970s. 5/5

Everything good about Rock and Roll came from Boston.

Dont know of any other album that all songs still get regular airplay. All 8 songs done by 2 guys then they added the band. Sick debut album

Debut album that could be a greatest hits.

Great playing, great vocals, great fun!

Every single song on this is a classic. This is one very rare album that has no losers on it.

This bangs

Very good album. Classic rock really good

Boston is Boston... it is a great album. Foreplay/Long Time is a such a great song. That opening of the instrument only Foreplay. Chef's Kiss.

It blows me away that Tom Sholz recorded and produced this album in his basement, in the 70’s, and it sounds like this. Amazing quality, and not to mention Boston ROCKS HARD! I love this album, and it’s a classic for a reason!

ITS BEEN SUCH A LONG TIME

Super! It is great Rock indeed!

Bringing me straight back to high school with my first car and the mixtape I loaded up for it. This album is non-stop classics. Five, no question.

Great debut album

Every song a jam. I live this whole album. Perfect classic rock. Harmonies, builds, raging lead guitar. No notes.

boston hit the nail on the head so accurately right out of the gate in their debut album. side a is filled with solid gold bangers, and side b doesn’t suffer like many albums do with stellar hits. side b holds its own! there are no duds, only jams. boston’s lyrics and vocals can be powerful—but the guitar? the drums? the keyboards?? they’re all given a time to shine on this album with their own solos. some of these guitar riffs are some of the most famous out there! their instrumentals, notably but definitely not restricted to “foreplay”, are beautiful and go so hard. the second half of “smokin’”? wow! there are no boring or lazy components to be found.

This album is undeniably influential for so many reasons. It still remains one of the top selling debut albums of all time. It ushered in a new era of rock music by leaning into "bigger" sounds and absolutely excelled at doing so. It produced three top hits that are firmly cemented in classic rock fame that are still regarded as iconic today and ALL of the other songs on the album have received radio play on classic rock radio and are all staples of the genre. Every track has an epic, big feel to it. Vocals and instruments both soar in every song, complete with impeccable production. This music was meant to be played in big concerts and arenas; the album recording does a better job of conveying that grandiose "live" vibe than so many live recordings which are trying to achieve similar vibes. Are sooo many of these songs overplayed, thanks to the radio? Yes. Is a part of me tired of them, even a little bit, from years and years of over-exposure? Yes. Are these all still incredible, certified classic rock bangers that have influenced the face of rock as we know it today? Also yes. Really, I can't find a single thing wrong with this album. This album wrote the book on the concept of "not a single skip on this album". As far as classic rock is concerned, this album is among the best of the best. It is undoubtedly essential listening.

Now here's an album at or near the top of the list for greatest debut albums of all time. And it would make the list based on the opening track alone, one of the best side 1, song 1's you'll ever here. More Than A Feeling is pure timeless magic. And the rest of the album is just littered with bangers. Do yourself a favor and seek out Brad Delp's isolated vocals on More Than A Feeling, along with performing the song live in the ’70’s. Maybe don't fall into a deep dive on Brad Delp's unfortunate death, unless depression is your thing.
