So milquetoast
Definitely maybe over-rated band. I know people love ‘em, that’s fine. Liam’s sneering whiny voice does zero for me.
A wall of sound coming at me with no relief.
It’s just not my kind of music. There were a few songs that weren’t as bad as some, and I only say that because again, just not my kind of music.
Oasis famously compared themselves to the Beatles. In a sense they were right; they are the Beatles of musical mediocrity. Live Forever feels so long it Definitely Maybe makes Germany’s 600 year performance of 4’33 seem short.
This is a good album I just feel like I’ve heard them all so much over the past 12 months. Some classics some are just winey.
Overrated
Classic garage band feeling. Favourite track: Married with Children
Never been a huge oasis fan. But this album surprised me. Live forever had to be my favorite song, but to be honest none of the rest of the songs were as good as that. Bring it on down had a cool guitar part. But maybe it’s the British lyrics and how full the band is of themselves. I can say this was not a Beatles album.
This one really grated on me but some of that probably has to do with how overplayed and meme'd Oasis is by 2026. I was listening to this while driving and so many times the lyrics had me shaking my head. Also I think one of these songs either rips off or attempts to interpolate T.Rex but it also just pissed me off more because I could have just been listening to T.Rex.
Kind of boring. Oasis had a big resurgence last summer so I was kind of excited to see what it’s all about but was underwhelmed.
not as good as I remember it, maybe a 2.5 but I'll give it a 2
Claustrophobic guitar parts and corny vocal deliveries. Oasis have created a world only they could create with this one.
This was hard going. More plodding and groove-less than I remember. Not a good sign when the second track of a debut album plagiarises track one (and a coke ad).
basic, derivative .a few good memories. live forever is still pretty great, and the b-sdies were always better than the album. 2.5
Back in the day I thought some of the tunes were reasonably catchy, but overall I never understood the hype around Oasis. It was just noise to me mainly. And I still don’t. I prefer this to What’s the Story… but that’s not saying much. It’s not improved with age and that’s probably because, in the end, the music just isn’t that great. I guess it stands as a moment in time for some people due to it being everywhere for a while, but I don’t think it stands up to scrutiny without that. See - still don’t get it! 2 - and that’s being generous.
Listening to this album is like discovering a whole new world. its good but I personally wouldn't listen to it everyday just not my cup of tea but I am interested in discovering many new other artists.
I've been very open about my dislike for Oasis for a long time. I knew they'd eventually crop up for me on this challenge. This album was a strange one for me. A couple of tracks surprised me "Up In The Sky" and "Bring It On Down" as they had a lot more energy than basically anything else on the album. However, one constant is how much I can't stand Liam Gallagher's vocals, I just can't. No matter how I try, the voice just goes through me. The weird sort of groan as he holds out every vowel at the end of every line, I struggle to move past it. Admittedly I've never been a fan of any of the 90s Britpop style, it's never been my bag. In the case of Oasis, it's all a bit too middle of the road for me.
So far not my particular vibe in music, but I am always up for something new. I have only listened to the first song right now, so we will see! Song number 2 was definitely not my vibe :/ Sometimes the most popular songs are the best, fave so far! Same w/ number 4, not really digging it Liked this song a little more, but again, it just wasn't hitting for me, sadly Liked the guitar on Supersonic, but overall again, it's not really my vibe Bring it on Down was probably my favorite so far, really intense and fun guitar Cigarettes and Alcohol didn't give me too much, but I liked the riff a bit! Digsy's Diner was the shortest and probably least interesting. Slide Away was really good, which is cool for a longer song. I felt the angst and emotions really well. Nice! The last song was nice, but a little too repetitive for me. Overall, not for me personally. Ended up adding 3 songs to my playlist, so that is fun!
I like some Oasis songs, but this album was a bit to heavy and noisy for me.
No. No. No. No. No. I cat stand Oasis. It’s not a Blur v Oasis thing for me. Brit Pop not my thing. This album gets a 2 for being the one that doesn’t have Wonderwall on it. Every song sounds the same.
Whining nonsense lyrics over guitars so distorted it becomes a mush of sound does not a classic album make. Possibly the most overrated band of all time, and that includes Coldplay!!! 2
I find it interesting that most reviews I've seen of this record either give it a 5 or an 1. This record does nothing really special, it's like the stones and beatles had a mediocre baby. It's wayy too poppy for my tastes, but it isn't awful to listen to. Just plain boring. 4/10
not a good band. music: hated. (⌐■_■)
It’s pretty boring isn’t it
Never been an Oasis fan.
(58/100)
😪
Overrated.
Album wasnt absolutely horrible, but because i fucking hate britpop im giving it a 2 instead of a 3. shakermaker, bring it on down & clumbia were decent. Hated live forever especially 👍 Silde away was always hyped by people i knew, was disappointed by it. Expected more
Not good. His voice was grating.
Not my kind of music.
Zeikerige zangstem en beetje te similar in sound allemaal. Goeie cover though
no me gusta oasis
Never really understood the hype for this band. They are fine I guess, catchy but generic rock. Overall a pretty boring album but not offensive
хватило на один раз, скучный и голоса неприятные (
Violently British, a little pretentious for no reason imo. I generally like stuff that’s a bit more niche but I can see how they are a palatable “punk” for the masses- everyone will always love Wonderwall. Just not something I LOVE or am WOWED by.
Lo unico que se me queda del álbum es la voz del vocalista cuando extiende mucho la nota,no escuche mucha diferencia en las canciones, salvo dos,lo siento muy monotono y repetitivo.
just good
Three facts: When you look up the dictionary definition of something that "insists upon itself," there is a picture of Oasis. The Gallagher brothers are insufferable cunts who are so far up n their own arses it's laughable. I hate saying this, but "What's The Story Morning Glory?" is also orders of magnitude better than this record.
This album seems to tell the story of the rise and fall of a first love. Reminds me of the egocentric feelings of young adulthood, believing you’re going to live forever, meeting someone who can make it all slide away then realizing their music is shite and you hate everything about them. Great guitar riffs, solid rhythm section, similar sounding solos in many of the songs, Noel Gallagher’s voice and enunciation got to be annoying at times
Meh.
I don't think I've ever listened to this album. When these guys blew up, I was at the peak of my punk stridency, and Oasis' rockstar bullshit was anathema to me (and I didn't think their songs backed up their egos). I also was also on Team Blur during the completely-invented-by-the-British-media rivalry between Blur and Oasis. I've softened since; I listened to the 20th anniversary edition of (What's the Story) Morning Glory a bunch of times when it came out, though I haven't gone back to it. All that said, this album still gets a shrug from me. The songs are too long for what they are—"Live Forever" would be so much better if they chopped a minute off—and the lyrics have no shortage of clichés. It's totally fine mid-'90s Britpop. I don't say this often, but 1994 me was on the right track.
Just a very average album from a below average band
Ich mochte den Großteil des Albums nicht so gerne, fand ihn langweilig, die letzten zwei Songs waren aber Banger
As over-rated today as it was then.
Ugh ... in 1994 the hits on this album were tolerable, but by 1995, this was already dated and everyone was sick of it. I have said it so many times as this list just keep pumping out everything that was released in the 90s. The Nineties were an era of bands picking up scraps from everyone who came in the decades before. Some bands were able to make something good with those scraps. Oasis is not one of those bands.
Does it remind me of the Beatles? Yes! Unfortunately, the Beatles that it reminds me of is my least favorite kind of Beatles - John Lennon's nasal, repetitive drone songs, though those are still more interesting than most of this album. There are a few highlights - I rather liked "Columbia" and "Married With Children" - but for the most part this one left me cold. And Liam Gallagher's bizarre over-enunciation (especially on tracks like "Cigarettes & Alcohol") REALLY annoys me. <oldmanyellsatcloud.gif>
I'm sure it was fresh for its time, but I hear nothing but generic, uninspired pop rock. DNF
Too repetitive (DNF) Saved: Supersonic (didn't really feel like listening to the rest of the album after this song)
These guys did not sound anything like I thought they were going to sound like. I thought it was going to be some more British shoegaze crap. That said, I like the guitarist but I don't like the singer. If don't like the singer, I can't get any further than that. Also the songs don't really have any good hooks except for a couple of them.
I think I’ve given them a fair shake but just can’t get into it, his voice in particular displeases me. Also maybe hard to separate the music from how much I’m aware of their personalities
The experience of listening to this has made me learn that the hits on (What's The Story) Morning Glory? were its best parts. Because without them, on Definitely Maybe, I'm forced to contend with the fact that I just *don't* like how The Gallagher brothers write songs. Even when they are playing with catchy melodies, loud guitars, and other cool ideas, the resultant songs still just don't grab me. Which isn't to say this is unpleasant by any means. I just think it feels a little bland and unmemorable to me. But, even if I don't see what so many do in this, I can appreciate that people love it, I am just doomed to be left in the dust on this particular one. I wish I could tell you more, but it's confusing, almost frustrating: we have a bunch of components I like, but they just don't come together for me. I will make a special note of Live Forever and Columbia though, which actually *do* work for me, and *are* pretty great in my opinion. But I have literally no idea what sets these two apart from the rest of the songs in my mind. So I will leave you with that enigma, I guess.
Not my thing, kinda forgettable.
I will definitely maybe not listen to this album again. Except Married with Children, that slaps a bit.
Hahahahah. That Bang A Gong song is hilarious. It’s hard to believe I ever liked this band.
has some gems but an hour of Gallagher's voice is too much

Live Forever is one of my favorites and on many of my playlists. That said, I think this is a boring album, mediocre at best. I don't care if I ever hear any other song off it again.
Uninspired and shallow. The mid 90s Nickleback. Strip away all the Noel “I’m Special” Gallagher drama and it’s his shrill monotonous on-truck vocals that really drag down Oasis. Wonderwall is the definitive Oasis song, but it’s not on this album and it’s not even that good.
It’s definitely well-written and (relatively) well-played, but a lot of it is boring as fuck and goes on for so long. Some of the filler tracks (Shaker Maker, Columbia) are nearly six minutes long. I fucking hate Oasis.
I'm sorry but this is such a boring album. Every aspect is just meh, and if its "generation defining" then I hate to say your generation might be boring lol. Nothing technically wrong with it but for the ego they have they need to bring better to the table.
Easy, easy listening. Nett aber nicht herausragend mit etwas weinerlicher Singstimme. Stört nicht und langweilt auch nicht. Aint no Beatles.
i liked a couple songs but i didnt really care about the rest
Fifty minutes of draggy, boring music with terrible singing
I like Oasis but this didn't hit right for me.
Oh so we’re doing Beatles meets Stones? Derivative.
Bad pulp
H: sometimes these albums just sound like noise. This was one of them. I found myself tuning this album out a lot. No redeeming qualities to be had for this one. 3/10 H fav song: Slide Away Z: whatever star power Oasis managed to generate in their career was not from this album. Loud, repetitive guitar riffs for 2+ minutes. I zoned out for about half of it. 4/10 Z fav song: Married With Children
The vaunted Oasis at last. Pretty much can’t stand them. The band sounds fine, I don’t mind the rich rock’n’roll sound—that part is a tolerable 3. But the nasally vocals drag it down a star. Thank you, next.
I like the wall of sound, with songs inspired by (or copied from) T. Rex, Stone Roses, the Stones, etc. But I’d much prefer to listen to their influences than originals. Liam has a great voice, and some of the songs are a little catchy (if you ignore Noel’s lyrics), but I don’t really understand how this album made Oasis-mania take hold.
Album just kinda drones on. I’ve never been a fan of the way their singers voice sounds. Otherwise it’s sorta Brit-pop indie? Not vibing with it
I don't think I'd say I really liked it, but I didn't NOT like it. The songs all felt the same.
I'm glad we won the Revolutionary War so I don't have to pretend to like this
I know they're supposed to 'it', but 11 songs on ONE disc and 16 on another? WAY too much at once for me.
hmmm... another one of those "i thought this band was supposed to be good" moments, though my advisors have informed me - once again - that they like oasis but this isn't their pick as far as oasis albums go. there were some decent tunes here and there, but it was hard for me to really differentiate between the songs, and this felt like an hour long noisy cymbal-fest above all else. i can absolutely hear the appeal of rocking out to these at a concert, like it feels like these were maybe designed from the get-go to be feel-good venue anthems, but besides that it didn't have that much appeal for me. highlights - rock 'n' roll star, columbia, supersonic
kinda whiney
Not impressed with the beginning of the album. Had to wait for Columbia to pique my interest. Supersonic also ok'ish before Bring It On Down brought me down.
Not my favourite. The songs sound too similar. Mediocre and kinda boring. Some nice instrumentation (guitar solos), but I'm not wowed. Live Forever and Columbia are highlights. Supersonic is the best song.
Pretty mixed feelings on this one. For a debut album it’s super impressive. Tons of hits. But as a whole I just found the album grating. The sound is super homogeneous and not in a positive way unfortunately. I just felt like the sound got so stale so fast. It wasn’t garbage or terrible. I was just massively underwhelmed.
'Live Forever' is a pretty good song but not exceptional. Some albums seem to have significance based on the context of the time they were released and not because they are truly great. The album is that. It's a fine debut and not more than that.
No para mí, vuelven a las canciones re largas y tediosas. General se siente aburrido repetitivo y sin ánimo
Shock - I thought this was going to get a 4 or 5 because I went to high school in the late '90s but this album is whiny trash
The first two tracks are horrendous. I literally almost vomited listening to them. Every note was sung flat, and the instrumentals are fine, but boring. Some subsequent tracks are better, most are not. I don't understand how people like this, probably one of my least favorite albums from the generator so far.
Upon doing research, I discovered that they're a British rock band. There's a distinct sound when it comes to British rock; a kind of slower, more melodic style compared to American rock. I'm really liking the track "Live Forever" out of all the songs on this album. It's great, but it feels a bit diluted compared to their major hit songs. Since this is their debut album, you can clearly tell it's where they were beginning to develop and mix their unique sound. Hear me out though: there's a similar tune between "Live Forever" and their famous song "Wonderwall." Coincidence? I don't think so.
I tried, but there is no way for me to like this.
I didn't like this album. All the songs felt similar, definitely not my style. I would however like to listen to a different, newer album. Maybe the one that has wonder wall on.
You can kind of see how they get their stereotype for being well. Bad, the melodies are hazed over. I guess you'd say the chord progressions are very simple and catchy. Of course, and the hooks are all like, you know. 3 words of like just some like narcissistic b*******, or maybe some form of british wit bottom line is these guys just don't do anything.Well, they do everything okay. And that's not good enough, especially when you're trying to be like the next big british pop band
you know, i like songs. not everything has to be more than a song. but i dont like these songs.
Bun de muzica de fundal.
Did I just have to be British in the 90s to enjoy Oasis? They're just okay, sometimes have a great song, but mostly I don't really care about the music. And this one doesn't even have Wonderwall so what the hell?
kind of getting sick of these guys
Dragging
okay
I didn't like this in 1994 and don't like it now.
Funny what time can do. When I first heard Live Forever the summer of 1994, Oasis seemed like a bunch of shy, maybe even politely charming sorts. Their album was called *definitely maybe*, hardly the stuff that would launch an entire lad identity. Obviously, the roots were there - Cigarettes & Alcohol, Rock ’n’ Roll Star - but even those could seem wryly aspirational and ironic with the sound itself rooted in the atmosphere of late 80s/early 90s British rock - baggy, shoegaze, various alternative rock iterations, but not glam or metal or anything that would necessarily call attention to being party music. Noel pulled a couple singles together here and padded the album out with a bunch of filler, something that would later become a default. The lesser songs are simply that, some so underbaked they lifted a Coke jingle for the vocal melody. I mean, that’s just embarrassing. Live Forever does just that and despite whatever the Gallaghers eventually became, I’ll always kinda pull for potato and co.
Good music, but do not enjoy the lead singer's voice.
I just could not care :(
Normal
geen lekkere balans tussen zang en gitaar. zeurderige stemmen
If you can get past the over-singing and the often inane lyrics, this is an enjoyable heart-on-its-sleeve rock album. When I can get past those things, like on "Slide Away" (the best song) or "Live Forever" (the best hooks, even if I hate how the lyrics react to Cobain and his music), I'm right there in the pit singing along. When I can't, like on "Shakermaker" (with it's clunky melody) or "Supersonic" (the worst lyrics of the bunch), it can get a bit tiring. This is right on the edge of a 2 and a 3 for me as an album full of brash songs that are almost too much to take in all in a row. The guitars sound great, but they're so loud the songs have very little room to breathe. It doesn't help that some of them, like the opener, go on for way too long. In the end I can't get past the lack of depth and loudness, though I can't deny it's catchy.
Eh
This was about as "meh" as rock can get. The album cover says it all, normal room with some dudes. definitely maybe.
I like the song Live Forever, and Married With Children is pretty good, but that’s it. The rest of the album just doesn’t do it for me. Not the worst album I’ve ever heard but far from the best and honestly just very forgettable. Already forgot what the two songs I did kinda like sounded like. Ha
I’ve never understood the Oasis hype. They are fine, but what it really is is some decent guitar rock with nasal vocals. Their hype was always better than their music, and it’s confusing when people describe this as “generation-defining” work. I hope not. For me, it was just a part of the post-grunge mediocrity.
Not a huge oasis fan, so not my vibe.
A couple of ok songs, but it was mostly just boring.
The entire album sounded like one song
The only Oasis song I had previously heard was “Rock and Roll Star.” My favorite music was in “Columbia” and “Bring it all Down.” Favorite lyrics were in “Married With Children.”
One listen all the way through was enough. It reminds me of the rock of my youth, which is impressive to see both the mix of their influences, and their influence on a lot of the mainstream acts of the 90s and 00s— I can give it points for that. Otherwise, it's just too easy for me to leave in the background. 2.3/5
Some good with some I don't like, more I don't like. 2
Shoegazey but in not a good way. Why write lyrics if you aren’t going to say them clearly? Anyway I think I disliked this more than I expected
Britpop sucks. 2 stars.
Puta mierda oasis
I remember hearing this album everywhere the year it came out. It was on the radio, it was at every house party... But even in 1994, it felt uninspired and unoriginal to my teenage ears. It lacked soul and energy, it was just... vanilla (especially since it was the height of the grunge craze back then, and compared to Nirvana, Oasis felt like old people music). And the Beatles had already done so much better... I saw them live at a festival in 1996, and it didn’t change my mind one bit. So. Here we are now, about 30 years later. I tried to put aside my disdain for Oasis and give it a honest listen. I really tried. But nope... still don’t like it. While I don’t hate it with a passion anymore, I found it far too generic and derivative. It’s not BAD bad ; I even enjoyed « Bring It On Down » (the only track that aged well in my opinion). But overall it’s just... meh. Most of the songs are very forgettable. If played at a party, « Supersonic » or « Live Forever » will make 45 years-old people like me nod in recognition, and it will be a nice excuse to start a conversation. But that’s about it...
Haven't listened to Oasis, but am familiar. This is a very impactful album at the time - reviving English rock, introducing a new direction for alternative music from Grunge. Pitchfork: 8.8 Rolling Stone: Top 500 Albums #217 Best Songs Live Forever Supersonic Slide Away Married with Children
Whiny vocals with wall of noise guitars that doesn't really vary from song to song. 'Live Forever' is admittedly catchy but otherwise not my thing.
Indie just isn't my cup of tea, even though their opening album was well received critically and commercially, to me, it's eh? Sorry.
I really don’t like oasis. I can hear other songs in their songs and their voices are a little grating. Giving them 2 ⭐️ because my college roommate loved them.
Rock'n'Roll Star is making me wonder how this album has such high accolades. Yeah, not sure what people see in this. Nostalgia, perhaps? Wow, the mix is so much better on Supersonic. Still not a fan, especially of the dude's voice, but that's one less thing to hate. And we're back to the muffled mix. That's a low 2.
Jangly and whiny, pretty straight-up rock n roll, I'm not sure why people fawn over these guys really. Still, some great hooks and catchy songwriting on the second half of the album. Maybe could improve with a couple more spins.
They definitely figured it out with (What's the Story) Morning Glory?, but they needed 11 songs to get there. With all the ignorance about the history & context of this album that I can muster: Nothing about any of the tracks feels unique, exploratory, challenging, etc., and therefore I cannot find a reason to like any of them. If this an important album in the sense that it redefined genres or made a splash when other similar records couldn't, that is the only way I could see this record being included in the list. It's the least of Oasis (for me) in that the sound is pop-y/rock-y, the vocals are grunge-y, and there's no sense of purpose coming from either direction. Once we get (WtS)MG? - only a year later! - we are introduced to the unaffected pop rock that I associate with (and like about) the band. We hear a far more developed sound complete with catchier hooks and a richer instrumentation worthy of superstardom. Definitely Maybe? Not so much.
Oasis is awful. It feels like someone tried to make a joke about AI making a 90's band that was pointlessly bad...except it was real and years before the slop we endure now and somehow folks still compared these noodles to the Beatles. Worst ten letters in the English language as a karaoke host? Wonderwall.
Didn't do a lot for me

“Mom, can we have (What's The Story) Morning Glory??” “No, we have (What's The Story) Morning Glory? at home” (What's The Story) Morning Glory? at home:
I never really listened to Oasis a whole lot, and in the first couple of tracks I'm reminded that this sound really might not be for me. The songs are long and uninteresting. This feels like one of those albums that if I caught at the right time would be life changing kind of sounds. Married With Children is a nice song and the tone is scratchy and rough which feels like an appropriate tone for when Oasis was crushing it in the 90's.
Oasis is a band I grew up with. MAAYBEEE I'll like this album, let's see. Rock 'n' Roll Star is OK. Shaker maker is kinda dull. Live Forever is another MAYBEEE. Oasis really like that word, don't they? Best song on album is probably Supersonic. Somehow, even the guitars whine. Overall Oasis aren't bad, they do come across as a bit generic, though. This album is not a strong defence against those allegations. They're probably the epitome of a band I'm unlikely to skip but I'm never going to seek them out to listen to. But that means the algorithms on Spotify or YouTube Music will probably keep delivering them thinking they're a favourite when they aren't. This is probably an album that feels like I should like it, but I just don't. It's not that it's bad, it's just that it does nothing interesting. And that makes it interminably dull. I'm gonna Slide Away from this album and never think about it again.
cosplay rock
Definitely maybe not
idk man its fine but i don't get it.
Eh
Mostly boring, I'm sorry Oasis u.u, I really liked Bring it on Down and Live Forever, but most of the songs felt repetitive for too long and not as interesting to keep enganged.
Not my style
It's not the gem for me that others have found. The people I hear in the album, I just don't like or respect. An unpleasantness about them. As to musicality and significance, similar to Milli Vanilli or Frankie goes to Hollywood, it feels manufactured and sterile after the first few listens. Two stars.
Album is honestly kind of ass, which I'm betting people disagree with. Doesn't have any Oasis classics... fave was Supersonic I guess
I don't say this often, but 1994 me was on the right track.
I just hate britpop. I hate it. I've always hated it.
The songs had some nice concepts but then went on and on and on and on and on and on and on. I nearly dozed off during it. 2 stars
Is this on here because they would go on to make (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? Because it isn’t here on its own merits.
Gallagher? I hardly know her! 2 liked songs
Ugh every song sounds the saaaame bro and it gave me anxiety.
Lot of noise. Songs were fairly repetitive with only a couple that saved it for me.
The distorted guitar sound was not enjoyable for the whole album, and the voice is just not good. It's a shame too, because there are some good melodies in there. They just make them sound bad.
Not my style but I'm glad a I gave this album a chance. Every song blended the same for me. The only one that stood out for me was Slide Away but then it went on way too long. I felt some Beatles influences throughout the album which wasn't bad. Anyway, here's Wonderwall...wait never mind
Сорян, не моё.
Pas super fan du délire
Every song kinda hits the same vibe and tone. I absolutely hated the way this dude pronounced some words: “sunsheee-ine” and “acksheee-un”.
I don't get the appeal. It pop rock. It's modern Beatles which means it's not innovative like the Beatles. It's also not as good. Oasis is to the Beatles as Greta Van Fleet is to Led Zeppelin, but Oasis is serious.
Brit Pops final boss is here. I’m a hater. I’ve been hating on Oasis my whole life and now I’m committed to the belief they are one of, if not the most, overrated band in history. Here’s my case: The main reason people like them is because they conjure nostalgia for British Invasion music, primarily and unapologetically The Beatles. A band being heavily influenced by a genre or band is fine if the output is strong, but IMO it’s not. The over the top British accents is also irritating, but wouldn’t be so if they didn’t insist on holding those notes “rock and roll stahhhhhhhhhhhhhh” or “maybaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyy” The overall bullshit rocker attitude doesn’t work for me either. You’re a Beatles wanna be hack! Get your own sunglass/haircut combo. Being a hack is fine. When I was 16 I aspired to be a rock and roll hack. I just don’t think they deserve to be considered “great”. Something nice I’ll say is they are clearly the best brit pop band…
Definitely not.
Single making machine Didn't like how this album is mixed Really don't like how the Gallagher brothers sing
Now I know why I overlooked Oasis in the 90'. This is definitely average.
I never really enjoyed Oasis. Listening again this album doesn't change my mind. It remains as a "definitely maybe" bad & not good either album
Pretty disappointing. It’s very chaotic yet somehow repetitive. I like a couple, but I cannot listen to this for the whole duration.
Shakermaker incredible. Rest of the album eh. I really dont like liams voice. He has this way of saying "imaginatieun" which i find really over the top, and somewhere between pretentious and annoying.
I never really liked Oasis. They are not bad, but I just don't resonate with them. This is ok.
Unknown band once again. OK rock and roll band but I find the lead singer's voice to whinny.
An easy listen, definitely formulaic though compared to some of their other works. Still seems to be a great debut release. 3
Oasis has escaped me thus far. I found it self indulgent with an unsubstantiated sense of self importance back then, and time hasn't changed my mind. Maybe I'm missing something, but its just mid rock with delusions of grandeur.
Didn't love
Start and end song carried hard the rest was mid, not an oasis fan
I know people love this band and this album, and maybe it's just because I missed the boat, but I can't get past how shitty the mix on this album is. It's like they were ahead of their time going for the compressed, tinny, shallow, lossy digital format sound that wouldn't dominate the industry for another decade. There is not high or low end, and this just sounds so shallow and empty, I hate it. Certainly some good and catchy songs, but man this sound grates on my ears.
I tried , I want to like this but if i ever was into pop rock ( which I usually am not) this wasnt gonna move the needle for me
Yeah........no......I would say I like Oasis, and none of the songs that would crack my top 10 are on this album. Yikes. Best song maybe the last one, otherwise......I dunno, maybe I'm just in a bad mood but it did nothing for me.
Mid Brit pop
It's ok, not an Oasis fan though.
Difficult for anyone who lived through the 90s in the UK to be objective and this. It hasn't aged that well and doesn't have most of the hits. The overall sound isn't great and the whiny Gallagher vocal is like nails on a chalkboard, mostly. Other Britpop has aged better.
ok
First Oasis listen. Not a huge fan. I can see why people like it. I appreciated some of the lyrics on this album. Highlights: Supersonic, Live Forever. Unlikely to return.
Didn't like them then and don't like them now.
Not for me
i liked 2 out of the 11 songs, everythings a little too slow for me, just not my jam, music good but my boy the lead singer just moaning in that mic. Married with children is goated. Expected a lot gotta little, its all good tho ik some people fw this album I in fact do not
Most songs bled into the next. No real change in tempo or arrangement. Lackluster
Average pop to me
Meh. A little nostalgia, but not much
“Oi. It’s Chewsday, innit?”
It's definitely maybe a 2 from me.
Yeah I’m quitting halfway through. His voice is annoying and there’s no wonderwall
Honestly, the longer I listen, the lower my rating is getting. The playing is decent, although maybe a bit boring and generic, but I just can't stand Liam's voice or affectation when singing. Favourite track was probably Rock 'n' Roll Star. It just went downhill from there.
Sehr gleichförmog
Num é ofensivo mas é Oasis, oq faz com que não seja inofensivo
More boring than I remembered.
Oh boy, another Oasis album. I thought they were a one hit wonder. Well. In terms of albums anyway. This is the debut I guess. Earlier albums can be the peak for bands in terms of raw emotion and musical urgency, but they can also be a let down after hearing the advancements the group had made the following year. I was surprised that I enjoyed Oasis’ critical magnum opus, so will I be equally enamoured with their debut. Enter the time warp. Time to get British. I can’t decide if I like this melody. I assume this song is somehow lampooning the rock and/or roll lifestyle. Or at least the egos that can dog the reputations of musicians. That’s kind of fun I guess. I liked the more buzzy close. Alert! I have decided that this is a mostly catchy, enjoyable song. Huzzah. If you can’t tell. I’m braindead today. So this, slow, middle of the road rock song is hitting its intended audience. I can’t even think of some sort of milkshake based joke. Uhhh. This milkshake uhh doesn’t bring any boys to the uh album review. That was good. Let’s go with that. Oh isn’t this that other song that they do?? This is Wonderwall. Whatever. I said maybe, you’re gonna be the one that turns me off of Oasis forever. This was not good. Hey you. Music reviewer. Yeah, you. Do you realize you don’t use enough sardonic prose NOR do you use enough hyperbolic descriptions of depth that wouldn’t stand out in a Shakespearean produced tour of Cats the musical?? Where you say, “this song sucks,” you SHOULD be saying “what “Up in the Sky” lacks in a cohesive timbre pales in comparison to the drought of intellectual forethought in the lyrics.” What I’m saying is that I have no idea how to critique music, so I’ll stick with saying that this song does indeed, suck. Man. I’m really bored with this one. I can’t believe there are so many songs left. This song is an extended guitar solo that I might have put together when I was 13 if I could play the guitar at all. And I mean at all. Any level. Oh man. What is this riff?? Ive definitely heard this in another song. Despite the dumb lyrics, this is pretty cool. Man the lyrics are dumb though. It’s Punk Rock Loser by the Viagra Boys. Damn. Stolen valour by a modern band I really enjoy. Ah well. This is probably the best song so far anyway. I’m finding this really boring. Can’t really muster a huge review in this track. Which is a shock considering my track record of excellent missives dedicated to each and every track I’ve heard ever. Bang a gong, Turn it off. Yeah this one is, as the kids say, completely abhorrent. Also a direct rip-off of a good T Rex song. The Digby Big Stop? Is that where we’re going? YES. Oh. Wait. Digsy’s. So close. A song as disappointing as missing a hot hamburger sandwich at the big stop. This is the kind of melody I wanted coming into this album. Tortured and sweet. At least it starts that way. Too long and repetitive to call this great in the end, but it had its moments. Oh Al Bundy. What is that rapscallion shoe salesman up to now? Finally, a quiet moment. Pretty fun song. Way to go fellas. Yeah this wasn’t great. I am feeling the weight of misery, and yet I don’t feel like that was the objective with Definitely Maybe. There are flashes of good songwriting in here, but a lot of this felt like meat and potatoes rock music. And while that is the most British thing possible, another unfortunate reality about cuisine on the British isles, is a lack of flavour. I besmirch my ancestors and even my immediate family here, but it is true. Spice may have been aplenty in the lands they colonized, but back in home soil? Salt is all you need. Where was I? Oh yeah. This album. It wore its influences on its sleeves but in the end, came across dull and left me wanting less Oasis and more of the influences. Bring on the endless stretch of desert. Time to find a new watering hole. 2 HIGHLIGHTS: Rock ‘n’ Roll Star, Supersonic, Married With Children
meh
Typical for the time but not very memorable
i've never understood the appeal of oasis. they are the musical embodiment of a headache. ill be the first to admit that this was way better than i expected but my expectations were through the floor so it wasnt a very high bar.
If Oasis had buggered off after two albums, we'd all remember them as a great little indie band that put guitars back in the charts for a bit. However, now all I see are just ape-like, gobby, money grabbing hacks worth so little self-awareness it's painful to watch.
Nothing stood out
I like the end of the album - it's cute. Really though, the album just sounds like music in a traditional rock bar that opened in the late 90s early 2000s. It's just kinda derivative of the time period and not all that interesting all the way through. Also, not a fan of the main vocalist. His accent is a bit annoying. Can see why this is a must-listen album if this sound was revolutionary for its time, but honestly, there are so many similar bands/songs since this album came out that it feels pointless and dull. 2/5
I haven't heard this album since the 90s. I'm OK with that. I heard it a lot back then. I don't remember it being so terribly boring. All the melodies are too alike. 2 things though. 1. Shakermaker is just 'I've Been Working on the Railroad' 2. Don't slip Alka-Seltzer in your cocaine.
I have never been particularly a fan of Oasis, and I must confess that I could not recall the reasons why. After several listens to "Definitely Maybe," I will admit that Oasis is capable of crafting catchy hooks and melodies. However, the excessively nasal and whiny quality of the vocals, which linger on nearly every syllable for far to long, is constantly irritating. Whether or not Oasis believe their own press by considers themselves the greatest band in the world, the reality is that they are, at best, a rather mediocre knock-off of the Beatles. Perhaps with a better vocalist, their music would be more interesting. (I mean, look at what Ryan Adams was able to do with Wonderwall)
This one didn’t do much for me, since I kind of got lost in the drawn out repetition of the album around the third track. It is pretty sonically enjoyable so I can’t roast it too much. Rating: 2.5
The UK rock scene must have been pretty bleak in 1994 for this record to come out and hit it big and sell millions of copies. This feels like very lowest-common-denominator, generic, arena-style rock. Somehow the band has maintained relevance well into this century.
Lowkey alles wat er mis is met de rockmuziekindustrie maar dan tegelijkertijd soms bangt het. Dus onmogelijk om te weten of het goed is
From Pulp to Blur to now Oasis, I've realized that Britpop is just not for me. While I do think this particular record remains truer to classic acts adjacent to this sound, from The Beatles (especially with Digsy's Dinner or the closer 'Married with Children') to the Smiths, it still lacks all the variety and kick that made those bands so incredible. I just find it all kind of flat, with choruses in the first half that are borderline insufferable to me, like on 'Up In The Sky'. The longer songs really don't need to be as long as they are - they're really not that interesting lyrically or structurally. And yeah, Liam's just a very shallow vocalist to me, which may be the most disappointing thing here. I did like him on the bluesier 'Cigarettes & Alcohol' though. For an album with a "pop" genre tag attached to it, there's not much here that's fun or sticky - say for maybe 'Slide Away' and 'Supersonic, by far and away the best songs here. And it doesn't commit to going very far in the other "experimental" direction either; the entire thing just meanders in this very safe, fuzzy guitar space and absolutely refuses to do anything remotely interesting. But I guess you could also argue that it's harmless, so I don't know. Didn't hate this thing, and I do think the second half is superior to the first, but I'd be kidding myself if I said that I didn't, at times, want to turn this thing off.
Ok but pretty bland for 90s pop rock
Didn’t finish. Don’t really know what to say, just didn’t like it
They are good but I never understood the hype about them.
Boring
Meh
Boring and repetitive, and the over pronunciation of the vowels is obnoxious.
If I time travel back to 1994, I can see why this appealed to the masses. Nowadays… my goodness, is it too much to ask you change the tempo once or twice?!
Imagine if Oasis was your favourite band. It's fine at what it is going for and Live Forever is a good song but it's not much of anything.
Okay, I didn't expect to see them again. The first track is over compressed, just loud for no reason and that trend continues. Lacking dynamic range. The last track is the exception, it sounds good but the song sucks. They didn't like the recording the first try and didn't like it the second time but just worked with it. They should have just kept re recording it. This sounds like a tin garbage can. The song compositions manage to carry the album, but the production is trash.
Oasis has two good songs, neither are on this album.
Honestly pretty boring. I think this one might get a 2, because it just does absolutely nothing for me. It fades squarely into the background. Not even squarely, because at least squares have edges.
This is not very good
pretty basic, a bit too emo rock
Thats it?
Admittedly I’ve never been a massive oasis fan, their big songs were fun in nightclub cheese-rooms when I was in uni, but they were never something I’d seek to listen to in my free time. Listening to this in full I’ve gained a new appreciation for the bands songwriting, but the sound still doesn’t do it for me unfortunately. Live Forever, Up In The Sky were the stand out tracks for me, Cigarettes & Alcohol was probably the most grating track to me. 2/5
Definitely an album. Maybe a good one. I don't think so though.
No me termina de convencer Oasis
I don't like Liam's voice or singing style. Never lived up to the hype for me.
I don't like them
Better than I expected
Fortunately not available on Spotify, what a shame. I know the songs, how could I not. Born in the late 80s you either loved or hated these songs. They're ok aren't they? Let down a LOT by Liams screaching and "Arm from Manchester me, mayt" attitude. It's not rock n roll it's shite garage punk.
Boooo
Some really good ideas here - Live Forever is a standout. This cannot beat the fact that I hate rock men's voices.
Definitely boring
At first, I thought "Not so bad; not was I was anticipating"! The songs seemed interesting and I was willing to give it an honest go. By the 6th song, I heard myself ask "How long is this going to go on?". My friends and I used to make fun of party DJs whose sets droned on calling them DJ "I-Only-Have-This-One-Record". Similar story here. What was interesting at first turned stale quickly. Maybe it's time for the "We-Only-Have-This-One-Sound" Band
Very guitar forward mixing— vocals and drums seem lost behind a wall of guitar sound. When vocals do manage to punch through, they sound whiny and nasally. I remember not caring for this album when it came out for some of the same reasons, and my feelings apparently haven’t changed in the past 30 years since its release.
I thought it was fine but largely unmemorable, which unfortunately is a crime. Favorite track: "Live Forever," maybe, I think. I don't know, I'm probably not listening again to make sure.
There's a couple of good songs, but mostly it just all sounds the same.
You think that everything you've done's fantastic Your music's shite it puts me to sleep There. Fixed it. Kind of boring. The most interesting part is a T-Rex riff. Lyrically dull and essentially just nursery rhymes over a pub band who liked The Beatles a bit too much. I don't understand how this was considered exciting or new but Oasis have always been their own biggest fans so hype and tabloid headlines help with the promo. The mix is also pretty bad: muddy and no space. I'm sure Oasis will crop up again and I expect that later albums are better than this. At least I hope so.
Definitely maybe never listening to this again.
Not really.
Not my jam. I can appreciate some parts of the music. Can’t stand the voices. 2
Fake working class dickheads tbh more of a blur man myself
Not my kind of music
I get what people like about Oasis, I just find it annoying. Musically, they're a decent evolution of the Stone Roses/Charlatans sound. Noel's guitar playing is derivative but engaging. What makes Oasis' sound unique is Liam's vocal styling. But that's a product of that particular combination of conceit and idiocy that I find most loathsome in human beings. The one thing that's unique and interesting about this band curls my upper lip. So I get it, but it irritates me.
Ugh. I really don't care for Oasis. They just run me the wrong way. Liked this one even less than their second album which I've already listened to on this list. Just not that interesting and boring. This broke my incredible streak of 5 star albums. Hope to get back on that track.
I’ve had to endure 25+ years of insufferable Gallagher ego and self-importance to buy into the general what would otherwise feel like an earnest but fairly one note album. Other than Live Forever, the album blended into a forgettable blur of mid-tempo drumming and left me reaching for more memorable Brit-rock albums from Blur and Radiohead.
I don't often get through an album without many thoughts, but this album is one of those rare exceptions. There is nothing particularly of note or interest to me with this album. It is simply a fine pop album. But this isn't supposed to be a list of fine albums; it's supposed to be a list of the greatest albums of all time. And it just doesn't do anything noteworthy for me. Favorite Song(s): Columbia
Hate these Manc pricks.
It’s generic rock flavoured Brit-pop. There’s really not a lot more to say about this record than that. It was clearly written with the intent of generating radio singles, and I’m not overly sure if it succeeded. I’ve seen Oasis live and yet I still didn’t recognize a single song on this album. It’s not particularly helpful that they all sounds strikingly similar, and it seems to be a distinctly different style of rock flavoured Brit-pop than the sound they later found extreme success with like “Champagne Supernova” and “Wonderwall” from the album released after this one. I don’t care for it, but I don’t hate it. It’s just generic and boring. 2 stars. Meh.
I bought this when it came out and liked it a lot. Now, thirty years on, and having listened to a lot more and more varied music, I can hear how basic, plodding and dull it is. I remember it was a double LP but really, it wastes an awful lot of space on that format (each side is only about 15 minutes rather than pushing 25). I can't help thinking they could lose a song or two and definitely lose a minute or two of uninteresting music from each of the songs.
Never got Oasis and their music then, certainly don't get it now. Just find it very vanilla and uncaptivating.
Whiny bullshit songs that all sound the same. I don’t hate Oasis when the random song comes on the radio but a full album is way too much. It’s a definitely maybe not for me.
Just not my jam. It’s not atrocious. But I don’t particularly like any of the songs. All of which sound the same to me. 2/5
Bland. I'm good.
Deeply unpleasant from start to finish. Characterized by trite, repetitive and uninspired lyrics with instrumentation to match. The first 15-20 seconds of each song were almost enjoyable as a reprieve from the previous, but by 2:30 I wished that it, too, would end. Instead, every song rambles on far beyond its welcome. I suspect that copious drug use and terrible music were a bit of a chicken-and-egg dilemma for Oasis, and one I am entirely uninterested in cracking. Choosing a favorite song feels a bit like choosing the STD I’d most like to contract, but I’d have to go with “Married with Children”. 3/10.
Oasis is just whatever to me. Nothing bad, but nothing I'd even considered enjoyable.
Not it chief. Very bland, gave it two listens and liked it even less the second time.
Pretty boring
I don't really enjoy this. Sorry.
Like kje Oasis, men detta va heldigvis ikkje da verste albumet
I don’t really get it. A couple good songs.
The headlines: Oasis is back together, they're going on tour, their tickets are too expensive, blame Ticketmaster! Sound familiar? "Woo-hoo" (Blur quote). From the hype I expected better, way better. Liam's voice sounds snotty and the songs are neither great nor horrible. Basic rock and roll at it's lowest common denominator. There were some highlights. Bring it On Down and Married With Children. "You think that everything you've done's fantastic Your music's shite".
This is who is going to eclipse Taylor Swift in concert ticket sales? What delusional planet are they on?!
I've hated Oasis since the 90s so that's probably my bias. But I listened to this whole album and then some. It's just not that good. Generic Brit rock. Nothing inspiring at all.
Bland, mediocre, just kinda simple
It should be higher for me, but it just didn't do it for me right now. Some bangers for sure, but not overall for me today
Excellent lyrics and instrumentals cannot keep my attention off the drawn out vocals that turn each track into a marathon. Maybe one day I'll be able to keep my mind off it, but today was not that day.
🤷
So bloated and the tunes are not incredible. Love live forever tho
Bit droning I fear. Live forever is nice, and the last song is by far the best. I think Oasis goes a bit too Oasis on this record.
Okay-ish. Expected more.
STANDOUTS: Maybe...Supersonic? OVERALL: 2.5/5
Somehow this album is too much Oasis. Every song should be 1m30s shorter. And even then I’m not sure I need much of it. It’s 90s rock noise for the sake of 90s rock noise. They finally switch it up on the last track, which was my favorite song on the album.
I wouldn't go as far as to say this sucked, but it is really not for me. I found it uninteresting and dull.
I thought maybe overexposure to (What's the Story) Morning Glory? and its consequences had permanently damaged my opinion on Oasis, but upon pressing play I thought maybe I'd been too harsh with my opinion on this band. Upon finishing, I'm not so sure.
Rock, 1994 -> 2

Why does he sound like that
Mid compared to other indie rock albums
Very very lame
There was nothing that stood out for me.
Never got the hype for Oasis. What a whiny way of singing.
Bro, I'm listening for the first time because I always thought the Gallaghers were insufferable. The instrumentation is fine, bro. The vocals lose me. Seems like the tracklisting could flow better. The lyrics in Supersonic especially... not for me. Cigarettes and Alcohol is just Bang the Gong. Married with Children feels totally unnecessary. "SAID MAYBEEEE" maybe 125 times, bro. Get a little less indecisive before finishing a song.
This wouldn't have even registered if they were not from the UK
I did not want to listen to this album. I hate britpop, and I really can’t stand Oasis. I realize they’re “highly acclaimed,” but, my word what an annoying voice. After listening, I must say, I didn’t like Oasis in the 90s, I don’t like them any better now. I do not see any reason this is considered by so many to be one of the greatest albums. There’s been worse stuff on this list, though, so I’ll be generous with two stars.
Not the biggest Oasis fan. From an engineering standpoint, I find the mix bright in the rocking songs and that’s through a couple of tube amps where the high end might already be rolled off. Something in the high-mids.
Ugh. Oasis.
Oasis is probably one of the top most overrated bands in all of rock history, all the way up there with U2. Their sound is so generic that at the start of more than one track, I mistakenly thought it's an advertisement jingle. It's not just entirely stale and unimaginative, but there's really just nothing to like. The singing is plain bad, lyrics too. The tracks are repetitive within as well as between tracks. I imagine if you asked a generative AI program to create 90's brit-pop album, this is exactly what it would spit out.
Okay let's get this over with. I don't like Oasis, I don't like their shit(e) attitude, their pissy quarrels, their egos while they blatantly rip off other artists. There's some okay moments altogether and they are clearly talented. I wish that they would stop their bitching at each other and at Blur and just start making solid music from their own imagination. If you want to sample and such, that's a different game. Damon knew that when he fired up Gorillaz. It's different than being in a rock band. All well and good to pull a thing or 2 here and there in a clever way, but Oasis just sounds too stoned and lazy about it, pulling Beatles riffs and titles among other artists nonstop. Can't respect that.
inoffensive but forgettable, 2.5/5 Rock 'N' Roll Star 1.5/5 Shakermaker 2.5/5 Live Forever 2.5/5 Up In The Sky 2.5/5 Columbia 2.5/5 Supersonic 2.5/5 Bring It On Down 3/5 Cigarettes & Alcohol 2/5 Digsy's Dinner 2/5 Slide Away 3.5/5 Married With Children 1.5/5
It’s alright I guess. The nasally voice and wall of sound kind of sell it for me. I think it’s a little better than what’s the story morning glory, but it doesn’t have a clear defining single like don’t look back in anger 4/10
Nothing really stands out to me about this one, and it got pretty grating toward the end.
Meh. Bitz generic und ich han di meischte Lieder nöd chönne usenandhalte.
I did not hear anything special on this album. Blur is the much better band from this era.
At the risk of sounding old…. Is it possible there’s just too much noise? I don’t mind the feeling that I’m catching a show at The Bronze in Buffy, and the album certainly feels youthful, but also inexperienced. It feels like a first album, exciting at times, but lacking depth (not unlike a high school boyfriend).
2.5
Doesn't do much for me. Fine but not punchy enough for me.
On paper, I should love this, but... i just don't.
I could have swore I already got this album, but then I remembered all of their shit sounds the same. That'll happen when you work the word "maybe" in the hook of every goddamn song.
Je ne contracte pas
Mira, no
I love britpop, and I have always wanted to love Oasis because of that. But I have always been a Blur gal all the way. I have always thought that Oasis are inferior to Blur in every way imaginable. Their music just feels so safe and watered down, like they never try anything interesting or or experimental in their music, and the gain on the guitars sounds so weird like some weird uncanny valley between acoustic and electric. Liam's voice is just whiny and annoying, and each song just drags on for so long which only makes the whiny nature of his voice all the more promenant. At the end of the day, britpop is one of the reasons the 90s is my favourite decade for music, and I get that Oasis are the main band of that scene. But I can't help but feel that they are one of the most overrated bands of all time.
The Oasis sound. Beatles influence is very clear as everyone says. Very 90s, progenitor of a lot of other Britpop. Up In The Sky was a bit of a gem but everything else very samey. (And was Up In The Sky just a worse version of Rain by the Beatles?)
An average rock-pop album made worse by Mancunian wailing. My listening experience (in bed at midnight) is best described with an excerpt from the final song; "Your music's shite, it keeps me up all night".
115 charges.
so what.
