Reviews (page 4 of 14)

- Heard this before - 90s classic - Feel like it's a slightly better album than Morning Glory because it feels more cohesive and not just a lot of singles - Some of Oasis' best songs - Fav songs: Live Forever, Supersonic, Married with Children

The perfect debut album.. Epic!

In order to fully enjoy this album you need to be a teenager in 90’s Britain. Which happily I was. Hard to over estimate the impact this album (and the follow up) had on my generation I’ll never not listen to this without being transported back to my teenage years. Know every song like the back of my hand. Rock n roll Star and Cigarettes and Alcohol remain as alive as ever, whilst Slide Away has matured like a fine wine

Excellent!

This was a time when it was a great thing to have two different albums by one great band in this project. I was definitely familiar with the incredible Morning Glory but not this album, their debut. I really appreciated hearing where Oasis came from before that album. This felt a little more raw and rock n roll and I loved it. I will probably pronounce "sunshine" like this forever more.

Wheeeee! This put me in a GREAT mood and that is not an easy thing to do. Fits perfectly in my brain.

I jumped on the Oasis bandwagon after the follow-up to this album “What’s the Story, Morning Glory?” But I don’t recall ever listening to this album. Glad I did, because it is excellent.

90s defining album

This changed my life. People tend to get very snobby when it comes to Oasis, but they were a cultural phenomenon in the UK. Almost overnight people changed they way they dressed, the way they spoke… A genuine landmark band.

Great feel good album. Very well produced.

Classic

Such a great album. Oasis at their peak. Best Songs: Rock 'n' Roll Star, Supersonic and Slide Away. And Live Forever is one of the great songs to come out of the 90s. The Gallaghers hit a home run here.

I always used to think this was the better of their first two albums. I’m beginning to doubt myself but it’s still an absolute belter. 5 stars all the way.

I don't think I appreciated Oasis as much as I should have. Always loved Wonderwall even though it's become the butt of jokes. It's a legit GOAT song. Live Forever, Supersonic and Slide Away are gonna be on repeat for me moving forward

Enjoyed it

top 5 album for me

Heard a few songs from this, but there's a few I've not heard before, and I'd say I'm a bit more familiar with (What's The Story) Morning Glory?. It's a great album though. I can't help but feel that Liam's voice grates on me just a little bit, the more Oasis I hear, but it's still just an excellent British album. Absolutely love the riffs especially. Favourite: Supersonic

Good vibe. Love the sound

It's definitely a defining record of it's era

Sentimental rating - probably. Not as good as Morning Glory, but still a 5/5

love this album, 9/10

"Defintely Maybe" is the debut album from Oasis. It is attributed to the revitalization of the Brit-pop music in the 1990's and seminal in the whole Brit-pop music scene...more optimistic than what was going on in grunge at the time. I will say that this album is quite a bit more rockin' than what I think of Brit-pop today... really only "Digsy's Dinner" give me that Brit-pop feel. It reminded more of classic 70's with its guitar bridges and guitar over-layers. However, the album creation did get off to a rocky start with the first two productions/producers being thrown away/fired and finally landing on Owen Morris who took away some of the orginal overdubs. The album was a huge success, selling 8.5 million copies world-wide. The album kicks off with "Rock 'n' Roll Star." A guitar intro, well produced, rocks pretty hard. Liam Gallagher, never the bashful one, lives to be the rock and roll star. "Shakermaker" is the second song and single. Slide guitar. The lyrics are about noticing the world around including things like coca-cola. "Live Forever" is slower, more pop-oriented, classic guitar bridge and the first song I remember, being in the US. It was a big international song. Liam continues his stardom quest about the immortality of rock stars. The album second half continues the slew of hits with "Supersonic" and the album's first single. Another guitar -driven song, slower though. Here's the alluded to optimism about getting out and making something out of yourself. I thought I changed the station as "Cigarettes & Alcohol" started and I was listening to T. Rex's "Bang a Gong." A pretty classic 70's glam rock sounding song. That's fine with me. The middle class appeal of cigarettes, alcohol and drugs. "Slide Away" was to be the fifth single from the album but Liam didn't think a debut album should have that many singles. A pretty-standard sounding rock song and structure but these guys do make it sound good. Great vocals by Liam. Songs from this album were the first of the Brit-pop songs I heard for awhile. As I recall we didn't get a lot of exposure to them in the US unless you were specifically looking them (initially, I missed out on bands like Suede, Manic Street Preachers and Pulp). No matter my opinion personally of the Gallagher brothers, this is a very good album which rocked a little harder than I remember.

Great album.

I've already heard this one and I would call its Oasis' greatest achievement because the band just have an incredible energy and a truly admirable love for their craft on this record. The melodies are gorgeous throughout and The production, while very loud, never sounds grating and always guides the listener with only a couple instruments playing at once perfectly complementing the life-afferming feel of the music. An Essential Record.

Such a classic britpop album, full of absolute bangers. Loved this album since I was 14 anyways, don't have many new thoughts about it.

Really digging the nasal voice from Liam on this record. The record has a very heavy Beatlesesque sound which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Oasis adds their own sound to the music while still showing their influences from The Rolling Stones to The Beatles. Although their song writing is not nearly as polished or well crafted, it is still clever and fun. The band had a very clear vision as to what they wanted to sound like and they stuck closely to it. Favorite Track: Married With Children, Digsy's Dinner Least Favorite Track: Bring it On Down

A classic

Really liked it! First album suggested. Oasis rocked harder than I remembered.

Yeaaah pretty great

Is it my imaginašjon

Haters gonna hate.

Didn’t like it originally but over time have realised its brilliant.

Who knew they did more than wonderwall? haha

Is it the best Oasis album? Cover art 3/5

Generation defining. Not a low spot.

Still a corker

Already heard it 27 years ago. It's a classic but it's all downhill from there. Saw them in 95 twice and they were great. Last time was Loch Lomond 96. Never need to hear any of their other albums again. But for a while they really were great.

Good songs

Overall Rating - 3.77/5 (7.55/10). I can hear the Oasis sound fully formed in this album, despite it being their first album. Even a few riffs that show up in their later work.

Bäst är Live forever, Up in the sky, Supersonic, Bring it on down, Ciggarettes & alcohol, Slide away

Good listen, great musicianship, very recognisable sound. I'm not unfamiliar with Oasis, but I didn't know some of the songs. Why 4? I only give 5 to those albums that are totally captivating and on par with the albums I listen to for my personal enjoyment and taste, and might actually join the 'rotation'. Here, not so much.

Not perfect but MAN this album grows on you fast. Like those videos of the slime mold growing in the Petri dish to reach the food fast. I started thinking the album was going to be pretty mid and before I knew it I was addicted to the style these guys had and just wanted to keep on jamming and having a good time.

Classixo

I’ve listened to what’s the story morning glory a lot but have barely given this one a chance. It’s good but it definitely feels like it’s the lesser brother of their later album

Good album, I don't think I have any takeaways, but I could see really enjoying this one again. Fun to listen to and some good songs on there for sure.

Omg, that's the most iconic Album Perfect rock, good vibes, such an iconic lyrics love it so much all the songs are great

Solid Britpop. Definitely Maybe a sign of things to come (well I already rolled Morning Glory).

27/06/2026

Knallbra album! Faktisk overraskende bra i forhold til forventningene. Kommer til å høre mer på dette!

I always heard comparisons to The Beatles with these guys but I never really caught it until now. Its like they are Beatles fanfiction OC inserts all over this album. That being said it was pretty good! Lyrically interesting and the production is pretty solid. Definitely Maybe a good listen!

I enjoyed this one slightly more than the other Oasis album on this list! The Beatles are all over the lyrics of this one but I think the overall song quality was better. The hits obviously aren’t as massive but Live Forever is a pretty catchy song regardless

A good album. Not the finest of Oasis but quintessentially them. 4/5

A band I had little time for when then came out as I was busy with Maiden and the like. However, there are some great tunes on here now the musical snobbery has passed. Still not as good as what's the story though...

More of a Blur guy, to be honest, but it's still a very good album. Pretty much the platonic form of Britpop, for better or worse (I think mostly better). Was expecting to like this one more, and it is great, but it's not a five-star to me. I can imagine this being a lifelong listen if you were some London lad in the mid nineties. Fav tracks: Shakermaker, Live Forever, Supersonic, Married With Children

Raucous rock from Gen Z's toxic twins

Randomly saw an Oasis tribute band a few months ago - which was funny as the lead singer was about 3 ft tall so struggled with the Liam swagger and the "Noel" couldn't stop smiling and waving to the crowd. It did remind me that Oasis have a lot of songs that are ingrained into me (despite not listening for many years) and that they still sound good (unlike a lot of Britpop that has not aged particularly well). Their first album was always my favourite - with Slide Away my pick.

What's The Story was their pinnacle, but this was a genre-setting debut. 5 massive songs on the album.

Don't love the mix.

Muy bueno. 🫶

Solid pop album. Probably won’t ever intentionally listen to them again, but I was surprised at how good it was.

It was so 90's whiny dad rock, and I honestly really enjoyed it. Could not believe this was a freaking DEBUT, good for them.

I've never really gotten into Oasis despite being the right age to get into them. 1994 I was 14, my first year of highschool. Such an incredible year musically; Superunknown, The Downward Spiral, Vitalogy, Weezer, Dookie, Smash, Illmatic...the list goes on. I never gave Oasis a chance. I've heard the singles of course. This was better than I expected it to be but still derivative in places. I listen in one earbud while getting ready for work in the morning. At times I went through two or three songs and didn't even notice the song changed. It's fine for what it is. I would go like 3.5 if I could. I think I'll round up and do the 4 stars here, parts of it did really make me pause and listen more closely.

A phenomenal debut. The songs are urgent, tight, and catchy. Not a bad track from a great band.

I definitely don't love Oasis as much as I did in high school, but I will never get tired of this album in particular. Oasis, for me, is summed up with Columbia. It's a very simple song in every imaginable way and the duration of the outro is hilariously unnecessary. Somehow, it all works. I could genuinely listen to that outro for hours on repeat and I wouldn't get bored. Noel is a very smart songwriter and knows exactly how to write a bunch of nonsense and make it seem like a creative masterclass, both lyrically and melodically. Well, at least he did until Be Here Now, in that instance he flew a bit too close to the sun. Liam's charismatic presence is there to boost that effect and it does so perfectly. I'll take this opportunity to recommend Noel's solo albums, they're surprisingly fantastic considering the quality of later Oasis albums. Favourite track: Bring It on Down

My wife is from Manchester so of course I am forced to listen to this regularly against my will. After the best part of 2 decades I have developed Stockholm syndrome. I now find myself enjoying it and singing along in a faux Manc accent. Mayyyybehhh Am a rock n roll staaaaah. Or mayybehh someone could call the police and free me from the basement I’m tied up in and being subject to Oasis every day. How I long to see the Sunsheeyyyyyyne

Solid. A couple of really great tracks, but ultimately just nowhere near as good as What’s the Story (Morning Glory)?

Well, I’m not going to belabor this with an extensive review because it would shock me if there is a single person participating in this endeavor who is not familiar with this record, the hits from it, and the Gallagher brothers/Kinks like sideshow. It is a good record, but certainly not perfect. Some of it does not even try to hide their influences - The Beatles and T.Rex. And there are a couple of tracks that are frankly just cornball crap. Anyway, it’s good enough to be on this list and yet only 4/5

Enormes

I still say this is as good as it got for Oasis. So much potential. I saw them at a small club in Texas on this tour. Amazing. All attitude and hooks. Then the audience got bigger and so did the egos. Which is fine. You have to believe to succeed, but to me they lost that real swagger and replaced with a more performative version. They had some great songs after this, but it was a decline in quality and effort. Solid 4

Not wall to wall hits like Morning Glory, but I'll never be mad about listening to this. Everything sounds like it was engineered to play as loud as possible.

The start of something special

Genuinely just one of the most amazing albums ever, and married with children is a generational song, I love ts

damn oasis kinda fucks…

It was alright. I'm not sure I'm the biggest fan of his voice.

No notes

I definitely maybe sorta like this more than I used to

The riffs kick so much ass. Sometimes Liam’s voice in its insistent Britishness takes me out of it, but the songwriting still comes out on top. UPDATE: On second listen, I don't really mind his voice after all. This album rocks.

Definitely Maybe Probably Very Good

asfzeghdrftrthf

First time i have heard this album all the way through. It is really much better than I expected, especially with the shitshow it appeared to be putting it together. I gotta wonder why they had two great albums amd the apparently couldn't keep it together? Egos maybe?

I’ve listened to what feels like 30 different Britpop albums for this list and I finally get my first Oasis album. It was better than most of the others, but I know they’ve got better albums to come.

I don't believe in guilty pleasures, but I'm not exactly proud of how much I love Oasis, particularly this and Morning Glory. The hits are overplayed for a reason, they hit consistently. The production is flawless, the swagger incandescent. I have thought about "Supersonic" at least three times a week since this album came out.

I hate that I like this so much given that these guys are such wankers.

My take is every other song on this album is good (read: legendary, iconic), and the rest are duds. Come at me.

I know that people give these guys stick for borrowing too much from the Beatles. While that is true (I particularly get more Lennon from them), the music was still very catchy.

Definitely a maybe for me lol Married with children is so fun

If I ever find myself in a pub I am putting on cigarettes & alcohol and burning it down like a bad ass in a cool jacket and boots… album bangs. 4.4

This is the second Oasis album this site has served me. I had never heard any of their music as far as I know. And I’ve really enjoyed everything I’ve heard! Maybe it feels a touch generic, but I found it quite enjoyable. 8/10 Most Excellent

meh not oasis’s biggest fan but the album wasn’t bad

De åpenbare sporene -- Live Forever, Supersonic, og Slide Away -- er all time great pop bangers.

Nostalgic, Authentic, lyrics fucking relatable Like me when maybe i don't wanna die, the guitar on shakemaker does something to me

Pretty cool rock

Holy shit

321/1089 Oasis 'Definitely Maybe' 1994 It's very fashionable to knock Oasis, and rightly so, when it comes to the arrogance, greed and general nobendery displayed by the Gallaghers. However, I cannot give this less than 4★ because it remains so important and defining of the era, especially so if you're GenX. The album is full of bangers, if now overplayed, but on the big hi-fi, on vinyl, it still kicks arse. It's been a long while since I played this in full. It's on the shelves. Heard before ✅️ Listened this time ✅️ Revisit ✅️ ★★★★☆ (8/10) Total reviewed : 321 Already owned : 73 Purchased : 15 To buy : 4 Nope : 229

So many of these songs are engraved in my DNA it's tough to be objective but this is still an incredibly solid debut

Will have to listen again

Perhaps I have a bit of ennui, but whilst I enjoyed this, I didn't think it was 'great'

A solid album with quite a few big hits in here. Not as complete as What's the Story Morning Glory and therefore a 4.

Close but no cigar(ettes & alcohol)

Full of nostalgic anthems

The back half of the album is surprisingly a lot better than the front which is so rare?

LAAARRRVV THIS (best oasis album)

fuck city

really nice

Good album with some real bangers. Felt like a 4.25. Everything felt a little too nostalgic.

Oh this is fine. 4

Love it, oozing so much British-ness

I remember these guys being pretty big back in the 1990s, but I never really got into them. They've got a couple of hits that I know, and I heard at least a couple on here. The rest was . . . fine. Better than a three, for sure, with a couple of non-hit, but listenable songs. So, this is a low-end 4.

4/5 - This is a great rock album, especially for a lot of the crap that was getting produced at the time. Had been a long time since I listened to it, but happy to revisit. I could care less about these guys' personal drama.

Much better than I anticipated. Cohesive, enjoyable album.

Chato mais bom

This one took about half-way through the album to click with me. The first few songs felt pretty un-inspired, but about the time 'Live Forever' came through it started to connect. Wouldn't say it's a favorite, but I'm starting to "get" Oasis a bit more now. Even looking forward to their next album...the Gallagher brothers are still dicks, though.

Nice first listen, seeing as my mom's from Manchester and loves oasis

Liked it! Would listen again. Very consistent sound throughout, but that makes it hard to distinguish standout songs

Very nice 👨🏻

Can't go wrong with oasis. This is really good! They get so much flack for wonderwall but I think this album shows their genuine talent. 8/10

Not on the same level as Morning Glory, but still really solid and enjoyable. Highlights: "Rock 'n' Roll Star" (except the outro) and "Live Forever."

If I was still in high school I'd be giving this a 10/10, but after over a decade it's deprecated a bit given my current musical tastes. All said though, still enjoyable. Noel Gallagher had a knack for writing some really damn catchy riffs, and I can still enjoy Liam's nasal "I wanna beeeee John Lennoooooon" voice. Just wish the actual lyrics Liam was singing weren't nonsense half the time. 7.5/10.

Cohesive album that keeps a good time and the lyrics are pretty dreamy too. The tracks don't do much for me on their own though, Live Forever was the only track I listened to beforehand and likely the only one I'll listen to after.

8/10 This rocks.

Premier album d'OASIS. Très rock Pref : Bring it down

It's good! Even without the hits it's still enjoyable.

No strong feelings, I'd listen again.

It was all downhill from here 4.1/5

Great album

It took me longer than most to get on the Oasis train. Kurt had just died and I didn't like the faux hard man posturing of the band, and I hated Whatever. I did like Live Forever though. But it took me until What's The Story to become a fan. There's no escaping the importance of this album. Is it the best album of the 90s, or of 1994? No. But it is essential.

Oasis is sneaky good to me. 4/5

Hey, it's pretty good! 'Simple but sweet' is the best way to describe this album for me. It's not groundbreaking or hugely experimental, and I think that's why I liked it. This challenge can get a bit exhausting at times with how artsy-fartsy some of these albums get. So I did appreciate Oasis kicking down the door and going "fuck that, let's just rock for a bit."

It was awesome to listen to this a day after listening to Blur. They’re really different for being so similar! Great album, great vibe, shout out Noel Gallagher

Another banger album. Oasis rips. Such a skill to make groovy, fun, and catchy music without it getting boring. Nothing here will musically blow you away but damn does it work together. If it sounds great, it is great, and this is great. Favorite track: Supersonic or Married With Children

pane e salame

Great Band! Highlights: Live Forever, Shakermaker, Supersonic, Slide Away and Whatever. 4.0

Rock 'n' Roll Star is sick

Good rock album. Liam's voice does gets a bit annoying after some time. Also the lyrics are so weird. Why does he prononce "Sunshine" and every words that bends ends with "tion" so weirdly.

I generally like 90s music, and this album fits that vibe for me. The singer's voice lends a dreamy sound to garage rock inspired/heavyish music. I did feel that sometimes the music overpowered the vocals, though, but I liked how heavy it was. I did love the music, especially the songs in the second half ("Supersonic", "Slide Away", "Married With Children").

Google and classic

unfortunately i kinda rock w oasis

Amazing album; "Live Forever" is one of my favorite Oasis songs

A good album, on balance I probably prefer What's the Story (Morning Glory) but there's plenty to enjoy here. 'Supersonic', 'Up In the Sky' and 'Married with Children' are my personal favourites.

Nice work boys, catchy all around.

I should learn to play some of these songs for parties.

Better than I expected. Not a huge oasis fan, but I had never listened to an entire album of theirs before. Listening to Shakermaker felt like unlocking a core memory. It must have played on the radio when I was growing up as it conjured up memories of long road trips with the family. The album helps explain the hype of Oasis to me, as I think having only heard the hits I didn't really get it. Favorite Track: Shakermaker

I had a good time listening to this.

Enjoyed this one!

Oodles of potential and I'm not able to explain why morning glory is better but it just is. It was middling around a 3 but it finished really strong so it gets da bump.

I always forget how much I love the sound of Oasis until those loud-ass guitars hit me and I'm transported back to high school. Take a shot every time Liam says "SHYIIIIIIIIIIIINE" for liver failure I don't think I will end up giving this album a 10, but there are certainly moments when I'm thinking about it "Huh, these guys should cover 'I Am The Walrus'" - a real thought I just had lmao

Peak early Oasis: jangly, cocky, and just repetitive enough to fade into the background while you conquer a spreadsheet. Shakermaker is pure “1994 vibes starter pack”—Bill Clinton on TV, a cold Zima in hand, and Friends playing somewhere you’re not fully watching. Not their most iconic, but effortlessly nails that Definitely Maybe swagger before the egos fully detonated.

Hey, so it was my first time listening to Oasis, and I will listen to more for sure. The album was so nice, I didn't skip any song, but my favourite was definitely "Live Forever"

Discazo.

Not as good as Morning Glory in my opinion, but a damn good album all the same

rock on british boys

Rock solid project here. Im not in the "they are the new beatles" camp. That was going around back in the day. At least thats what I understand. But are they a great band? Hell yes they are. Not a single miss here. Every single song is good. I got 3 songs that really stand out and everything else is great too. Just im not super into thier whole vibe. Its good but its not my style really. Not searching it out. No wonderwall so if thats a good or bad thing its the facts. Sup3r good record that maybe gets a 5 but personally I dont think it gets there. Great to amazing. Somewhere in there. Just jot perfect

was their whole thing the word "maybe" ??? really nice nostalgic stuff. not exactly my scene but it was enjoyable. some of it would be super nice if I was like high in the back of a convertible on the highway in the middle of the summer. yeah?

Lots of jams on here.

This album sounds so full and satisfying! There's something about the big, distorted, rhythm guitar strums that just wash over you so nicely. Towering walls of Britpop goodness. Not every song is unforgettable, but I could listen to the run of Up In The Sky -> Columbia -> Supersonic endlessly. I think Supersonic is my favorite of Oasis's songs. Such a good spring/summer driving album.

Actually kinda awesome

In the Brit Pop wars, I was firmly in the Blur camp. I still am. Damon Albarn had more character than Noel Gallagher in my view. I'd like to pretend that I'm too cool for Oasis. But honestly, they made some great music. At one point I dismissed it as imitation Beatles but that's not really fair. They did really capture the sound of a moment. Not just limited to Brit Pop either, this really feels like the 90s. Even Albarn had to confess that Oasis won the war when they reunited and had a wave of nostalgic obsession. They really did stand the test of time in the end. Still not my favorite band but they're damn good.

Solid album! I love Supersonic

Great record. Songwriting is just good

This album is more like the Britpop sound that Oasis started than anything else they ever did. Live Forever was the hit. I honestly don't remember this album being big and I loved (What's the Story) Morning Glory? Cigarettes and Alcohol is on the Gallagher family crest. I like this album better than Pulp and Supergrass, but you can definitely feel more of a similarity on this album than later Oasis. Digsy's Dinner is the inspiration for one hit wonder Jimmie's Chicken Shack's Do Right. I am always a sucker for piano in rock music. There is too much of Liam repeating "slide away", he rivaling Paper Doll from PM Dawn. (What's the Story) Morning Glory? is a much tighter album. Good, not great.

90s goodness

Solid. It’s oasis, they’re a bit boring, but overall really solid what they do.

It is a classic and for all I think they are muppets it is a great album.

Pretty good Stand-outs - Live Forever - Slide Away

Derivative and a bit basic for sure, but captured and shaped a zeitgeist in 90s Britain, and still holds up well for me in terms of melodic rock songwriting and its ‘as-live’ energy.

I can't believe I'm becoming an Oasis fan.

Oasis has great albums. This is one of them.

It’s all downhill from here.

I never really was a big Oasis fan and understood the 90s Britpop era. And yet, I found this album pretty good. Something about the way they sing and the guitars sound really does hook me. I’m not sure I’ll go out of my way to listen to Oasis, but it is a good listen.

9/10 Britrock superlativo.

Strong start for them with this album ! Always happy to have this played, full of hits

Classic ninenty rock

More of a singles band than an album band to me, but they certainly had some monsters that sound designed for 100,000 seat arenas. Live Forever is one such monster. The first song Rock N Roll Star takes on a new dimension after Liam made this bit o brilliance: https://youtu.be/N66OWMQqsxA?si=TGdffOM6OhOiLwhx

I'm not an Oasis fan but this is an impressive debut--their sound is fresh and confident and their music and lyrics are strong. I particularly admire the consistently sneering tone in the lead singer's voice.

3-4 et sted, det er kult og givende. Behagelig. litt lite motstand tidvis, kanskje

Oasis is so good. I love how raw this album felt. This was very enjoyable. The way it is mixed is so different from some of their other albums in such a great way. This album also does great even though there aren't any MAJOR hits here. It is just raw and high energy. Actual rating...4.5 Liked Songs: "Rock 'n' Roll Star" , "Shakermaker" , "Live Forever" , "Up In The Sky" , "Supersonic" , "Bring It On Down" , "Cigarettes & Alcohol" , "Digsy's Diner" , "Slide Away"

It’s the Wonderwall band! In all seriousness they were (are?) a great band, of which this is my second album of theirs i am listening too fully. Compared to Morning glory it doesnt have those massive hits of Champagne supernova or wonderwall, but it still has great (and maybe better musically) songs like Live forever and Cigarettes and Alcohol. Overall greatly enjoyed it but a little less than Morning Glory. 8/10

I've been sleeping on Oasis. Few here that I knew, the sound is just so fresh even today. Bet these guys rocked hard live. Really really enjoyed, 4.5/5

it's oasis, its classic, its fine

Hot take: Oasis are better than the Beatles. Such a dope blend of classic rock with other more modern elements.

I thought it was great! My notes mostly consisted of praise and a little resentment for the Brits. Might even be deserving of a 5 but it's a little too british for me. I think he sounds like Sid Vicious. most of the music was very engaging and fun and rock n roll in a good way. Loves it!

good, very good mixing and mastering, ok songs nothing wow, they have better, love the 90s

3½☆

I really don't know titles of Oasis songs. Knew a ton of songs on here, but would have never remembered their titles. Really good, but made me realize how similar Oasis songs all sound.

Massive. Fair enough. Take me the fuck back. Musically a bit basic and samey, but brings all the right vibes.

Very cool music

This is currently the only album I've listened to of theirs, but I'm looking forward to listening to the rest of their discography. I've always thought they tried to be too much like The Beatles, but who wouldn't want to be like them. Anyway, they've got their own distinct sound, which is pretty solid to me. Great start to their career.

So now I'm an Oasis fan? Was surprised that I ended up liking this album so much. Lots of killer tracks. This is nearly a five but I don't want to inflate the Gallagher brothers' egos to a bigger size than they already are.

Absolut ett topp album Gillade live forever, Supersonic, Columbia, slide away och married with children mest

8.8/10 amazingly energetic, great guitar hooks, and overall my favorite album from oasis so far 10/10 songs: Bring it on Down and Cigarettes and Alcohol

Accusations that Oasis were simply a Beatles rip-off have always baffled me. Of course they are clearly inspired - the 60s simple chords, cynical and satirical songs like Digsys Dinner. Is this so much worse than Led Zep and Rolling Stones vis Blues and Rockabilly? In this album they created their own sound, emblematic of the 90s and different from other inspirations like Inspiral Carpets and Stone Roses. This track listing is very strong; I think it contains the bulk of their best work- the strongest being Columbia, Live Forever and Slide Away. RnR star is a great choice to begin the album with. Overall a very enjoyable listen throughout. Unfortunately the album is much simpler and unidimensional than I remembered, perhaps why it is so palatable throughout. Oasis are renowned for having poor drummers - this is very clear in the album, through hidden through heavy guitar distortion and production. Cant help but wonder how good the album could have been with more talented musicians.

Although the performative lad culture nostalgia in the afterlife of the Brit-Pop era makes me physically cringe, there is a lot to like about this album. The production is loud and maximalist, guitars are stacked and distortion is ramped to the point the instrumental textures blur together, although this can be jarring at times, it suits the album perfectly and as a debut album, leaves a clear impression of what Oasis are about. The vocals are not particularly special and at times can feel a bit satirical, however I feel like this works well in the context of the album. Lyrically this album conveys the usual Brit-Pop themes of working class life, however it was refreshing to hear an earnest optimistic view in definitely maybe. You can hear the influence from 60s rock in the guitar with easy progressions and memorable riffs but overall quite uncomplicated, making it perfect for singing along to which is probably why this album has held up so well over time.

a new experience from the old

For some reason I hated this album when I first heard it, but it's honestly just as good as "What's The Story". Favorite track: Married With Children

Im on the fence with this. I don't love Oasis but it's a very good album. It's a 3.5 for me but I'll rate a 4.

SLIDE AWAYYYYYYY

Nasal whine from the Smiths cover band, with a strong whiff of the Rolling Stones. Except it's very listenable. Supersonic / cigarettes and alcohol

Although if push came to shove I would say I was more of a Blur fan in the nineties, this album is superb. One of the best Brit Pop era efforts, one of the best debut albums by any band and possibly one of the best ever opening tracks.

l am inceput pe prelungirea ghencea cu speakerul la ureche; like the good times imi place, cred ca e ceea ce cautam, dar nu stiu daca o sa retin mult din el

Solid! ★★★★

Great album, but not their best. Mostly made me want to go listen to What’s the Story Morning Glory.

Really torn but I think 4 is about right. It’s an 8/10 album. I’ll save top marks for its successor.

Shiiiiine

Oasis were pretty big for a while in the 90s. So I get why this album is on the list. Not convinced it's particularly influential, particularly beyond the UK. And while there are some really good songs here, there also stuff that sounds pretty dated. A good album, but in another 10 or 20 years I suspect they'll wind up being a band most people haven't heard of and who hasn't really left lasting mark on the bands that came after them

My first encounter with this band and Britpop in general, and now I feel embarrassed for thinking newer bands like The Arctic Monkeys somehow originated this type of rock music with regional English accents (to be clear, Oasis has a heavier sound than that band). The sneering vocals matches well with the intensity of the driving guitars and percussion. The lyrics I can make out don't seem particularly meaningful or effective at storytelling but that can be forgiven for music you can rock out to. This is definitely an album I'll return to.

I can not for the life of me understand how this band is a) misconceived by some as a one hit wonder and b) how 'Wonderwall' is this band's biggest hit when bangers like the ones on this album exist. This was another incredibly solid album by Oasis with catchy tunes accompanied by phenomenal musicianship and great vocals. Almost every song was exciting and held my attention, and I was sort of disappointed when the album concluded.

Wonderwall

Album #56 Oasis: Definitely Maybe This album is probably the closest to getting a 5-star, that isn’t quite a five-star. I am a pretty unashamed massive Oasis fan, even before they reunited, and it became cool to like them again. I love pretty much all Britpop to be honest, but if you were to ask me, Oasis or Blur, Oasis would win without hesitation (though Pulp sweep both). I have always just gravitated more towards Oasis since they just seem like working-class lads who wanted to make rock and roll anthems like their heroes. Their influences are all over Definitely Maybe, perhaps the most famous example being the riff from Cigarettes and Alcohol being borrowed directly from T.Rex. Oasis represented the revival of 60s and 70s rock and roll, which had sort of been lost in the 80s in the UK, replaced with movements that I am also quite fond of, like New Wave, Synthpop, Post-Punk, Jangle Pop, Dreampop, etc. Oasis is hardly the hardest rocking band of all time; they are much more similar to The Beatles than to Led Zeppelin, their songs are often more pop-structured and discuss themes of love, glamour, and even food. For the longest time, Definitely Maybe has been my go-to Oasis album, mostly due to the fact that one of my favourite songs of all time, Live Forever, is the centrepiece. Though in recent times I have come to the realization that What’s The Story might just be fractionally more consistent. But both albums to me exist directly on the periphery of what constitutes a perfect album to me. I could nitpick certain flaws, but at the end of the day, my only criterion is how an album makes me feel, and man, does Oasis make me feel. I think the reason I have opted for a 9.5 here isn’t due to me not liking any track in particular (I’m like the only guy who loves Digsy’s Dinner), but more so because I rate my 10s comparatively. Hounds of Love is an album which I gave a ten, but I probably have more connection to Defintely Maybe, but Hounds of Love is an incredibly unique album which can’t be compared to any other, whereas with Definitely maybe, I prefer another Oasis album and at least two Pulp albums within the Britpop genre, so it’s hard to say it’s a 10. Either way, though, Oasis are magical, and overrated by people desperate to seem like they have intelligent taste, who force themselves to ignore their primal urge to get up and scream “I JUST WANT TO FLY” with the rest of us. Best Songs: Live Forever, Slide Away, Supersonic Worst Song: Bring it on Down Score out of 10: 9.5

I really like this Album my favorites were Listen Up, It's Good To Be Free, and Supersonic (of course).

idk what bro is talking about in most of the songs on this and the guitars are muddy. good shit tho especially married with children. 3.5/5

Solid classic. Would / should listen to again.

One of the three best oasis albums.

Oasis will now be stuck in my head for 5 business days

Huh. Turns out, I like Oasis much more than I thought I did.

Varmasti ehkä paras Oasiksen levy

A solid album that is quintessentially Oasis, and yet, none of these songs are ones that I've heard before. The album is well made and serves as great British rock album for the early 90s. Favorites are "Rock 'n' Roll Star", "Shakermaker", "Supersonic", and "Slide Away"

Not my favorite Oasis album but still really good. Some of my favorite songs on here and these guys were just on another level at the time.

Listens: 3 Standout tracks: Live Forever Two Oasis albums less than 20 albums apart. I guess that's fine. Sort of surprised to see two albums on the List though. This was a totally fine entry. I have listened before, but probably not since the mid 2000s when I was in my music-collecting phase. Had to have every album in the discography.

I knew I had to listen to Oasis EVENTUALLY, and I was pleasantly surprised! There were great depth and lyrical meaning in this album. It sounded a little repetitive, but that could just be me.

-finally an album that I actually enjoyed (almost) every song -listened to it on the drive to school, my dad vibed with it heavy too

Pleasantly surprised

Oasis were one of the main soundtracks to my youth but I've barely listen to them for the past twenty or so years. Their debut has a degree of energy that overrides how derivative their music is. An energy that quickly started to disappear as they started to believe their own hype. As a result, I found myself enjoying Definitely Maybe more than I thought I would. It's certainly the peak of Oasis.

Very good brit pop, succinct

Good album

The first seconds already got me so interested! The last music also hits different, but in the other way. If you listened, you know what I mean.

Hell fuckin yea brother Best Song: Slide Away Rating: 8.5/10 Stars: 4

Rock'n'Roll Star - 4/5 Shakermaker - 3.5/5 Live Forever - 4/5 Up In The Sky - 3.5/5 Columbia - 4.5/5 Supersonic - 4/5 Bring It On Down - 4.5/5 Cigarettes & Alcohol - 4/5 Digsy's Dinner - 5/5 Slide Away - 4/5 Married With Children - 3.5/5

Only really discovered this after their second album (yeah, my bad). Not as consistently fabulous as that, but many bangers still...

so nostalgic, but i didn’t realise how some of the lyrics are a little bit cliche

Bit surprised to see 'What's the Story?' scoring higher. This is better, and came before they got too irksome

I prefer this to What's the Story. Good record!

4.5 egentligen

This was the album that introduced me to Oasis. A solid album from start to finish. In my opinion it is equal best with the follow up before their egos got the better of them. 4 star. Best track - cigarettes and alcohol.

I don’t WANT to like Oasis… the guys are jerks and Blur is really a better band. But I have to admit this is a fun album

It's definitely maybe for sure.

I feel like their second album gets more of the glory (hehe Morning Glory). I had never listened to this album before. But it sounds like they are having fun and it's got a charm and energy of a band seemingly before all the fame and drama. I enjoy it. Standout songs: Shakermaker, Live Forever, Cigarettes & Alcohol, Slide Away

Solid, good, great and awesome. Great moments, some okay moments, but overall really good and fun.

this record is just good fun. straight forward, no nonsense rock n roll. oasis had rock music down to a science, and churned out a remarkable amount of hit songs in a relatively short time. this record launched the band straight into the stratosphere, and well, the rest is history; sold out stadiums, heaps of drama, and millions of adoring, almost ravenous fans. say what you want about the gallaghers, but they were destined to be rock stars, and this record proves it.

Oh it's that one debut album by those Britpop fellas. I don't think I'm made it very clear (I have made it very clear) but I am British, and as such I've heard a number of these songs since I more or less gained consciousness. Honestly this sounds like I'm building up to complain but no I actually quite like some of this. There is a decent chunk of style on this album that certainly does a lot for many, the guitars are pretty rough and energy on most of the album is very upbeat, but I genuinely think those are the most uninteresting bits of this album. But alongside that style there is substance in songs like Live Forever and Married With Children. Maybe a little long, songs like Digby's Dinner do nothing at all for me but it's not like the Gallagher brothers to ever approach the idea of "less is more". I think this is a good album, a very solid debut but it certainly doesn't light the fire in my heart, and it's certainly weaker than the following album but that album is "What's the Story (Morning Glory)?" in fairness. As britpop goes this is like high B maybe low A tier but it's certainly not Oasis at their best and it doesn't quite hold a flame to Pulp... but that's just me. Best songs: Live Forever Worst songs: N/A Rank compared to everything else so far: 25/46 (below Fear of a Black Planet, above Green)

This is an album a have a lot of experience with, both voluntary and involuntary through my Dad playing it in the 90s on his shiny new HiFi system or on the car stereo ("What's the Story" getting a similar amount of love on both systems). It does have a place in my heart, regardless of my relationship with my Dad as it stands today, but I will try to be as objective as humanly possible here. I've always believed that the opening track of an album is meant to set the tone and vibe for the rest of the album and "Rock'n'Roll Star" pulls it off immensely. People complain about "Muddy guitars" and "Liam's nasal voice", but this is what Oasis came to be loved for by millions of people. "Live forever", though repetitive, has a pretty uplifting set of lyrics backed by an emotional melody. Though appealing to youth, it has more impact listening to it now as an adult. As the album progressed, and other familiar songs cropped up like "Supersonic" and "Cigarettes and Alcohol" (which both have iconic riffs ansd relatable lyrics, even if the latter knicked it from T-Rex) I realised that this album (and perhaps Oasis at large) are hugely hit and miss. I enjoyed "Columbia", but there was nothing memorable about it. The same can be said "Up in the Sky" and "Bring it on Down". It's either a bullseye or a blunder with each song, regardless of whether I ultimately liked it. About the only track that wowed me outside of the most popular tracks was "Slide Away", with a really catchy and emotional melody with lyrics to match. This is a new track to add to the playlist. This was another one I did enjoy, but putting my memories of it aside, it's undeniable the hit and miss nature, as previously stated, of this album. For a debut, it's pretty good going, considering that it paved the way for What's the Story, which is arguably there best album of the lot.

This is a 4.4 rounded down to a 4. Great album but not the best of oasis so i can’t really give it a 5. But if i had adult money i would pay the 300 something pounds to go see them. This rating was definitely a battle between do i actually love this song or is it just really nostalgic

This is a good album. Agreeable rock with creative rhythms, crazy this is the first Oasis album. Consistently high quality, with a couple real bangers in there. I've always liked Oasis to some extent, but even by that standard this album was better than expected.

Definitely

love this one

Nice to hear an album of well regarded music from Oasis that isn't Wonderwall. The vocals grew somewhat irritating by the end, but the music overall was easily held aloft by the intricate and interesting guitar work, as well as the generally upbeat vibes of the songs.

Honestly I never have really listened to a lot of classic rock music so this was a new sound to me and was not bad at all. I understand why classic rock is such an appreciated genre because of how nice it sounds and I could see how it’s influenced a lot to music now. Will definitely add some some to the list.

Peak Oasis

I like English rock and this is no exception!

I love this album here’s my earlier review: I definitely liked this album better than what´s the story morning glory mainly because there´s no wonderwall. Cigarettes and alcohol is a standout and the guitar sounds very similar to bang a gong by T. Rex which is one of my all time favorite albums and songs. Supersonic is peak as well.

i really liked this album, i was surprised that i’d only heard one song before (that i could remember) (supersonic). i think i had assumed that what’s the story was their debut album.

And after aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaall, you're my wonderwaaaaaaall.

I really do love this album, it's just not perfect and I feel like that's my criteria for a 5. It's a classic and I'll probably always come back to this one 🕺🕺

Some bangers and a great album overall - but it does all blend together by the end

7.8/10 super great album loved everything, favourite probably married with children, however majority sounded the same to me ( I still loved them)

Favourite tracks: supersonic, married with children, and cigarettes & alcohol

Man I think I hated Oasis in my youth because the singing sounded whiny lol. I guess they finally broke me.

I like this whole album which is rare. Hardly any unlikeable songs. Great rocky sing alongside when in an upbeat mood. 4.3/5

For not having understood the hype behind Oasis for the longest time, I am glad to say this album really worked for me. I love how the instrumentals are massive and encompassing, with little space to breathe. This matches Liams aggressive and assertive vocals, which deliver on each track. Highlights were Rock n Roll Star, Up In the Sky, Columbia, SuperSonic, Bring It On Down, Cigarettes and Alcohol and Slide Away.

One of my favorite 90s records. So fun top to bottom. Standout tracks for me are 1) live forever 2) cigarettes and alcohol 3) supersonic. Record has a special spot in my music zeitgeist as I was listening to it a lot when my son was born.

Ah they’re so good but…

A banger of a Brit pop album. I know the hits very well from a playlist. Listening to the whole thing through was interesting.

Still remains a pretty vital debut. Whilst there's nothing particularly original going on, it's done with humour and heart to make it feel great.

Great debut

Favorite songs: Rock 'n' Roll Star, Live Forever, Supersonic, Bring it on Down

Great songs, but i mean like its not like pink floyd level. not massively my stuff either but i mean, still i do enjoy it.

When I met my future wife in college she was wearing an Oasis t-shirt. The rest is history.

had some good songs.
