So many good songs here!

Superb. 5 stars

Another All Timer. 5 *

YES YES YES It doesn’t have to be their best album in order to still love it.

The album that got me into guitar music. Too many memories wrapped up in this not to give it full marks. It’s far from perfect but it’s raw and ambitious.

De gebroeders Gallagher schijven ongelofelijk simpele nummertjes met teksten die helemaal nergens op slaan: "Can I ride with you in your BMW? You can sail with me in my yellow submarine" "Mister Sifter sold me songs When I was just sixteen Now he stops at traffic lights But only when they're green" "What a life it would be If you could come to mine for tea I'll pick you up at half past three We'll have lasagna" Maar misschien zijn zij de helden die wij nodig hebben en niet verdienen. Misschien moet iedereen gewoon lekker normaal doen.

man...this is some good shit. I never really listened this album before. But it's so good. Sift through the infighting and fact that they are absolute insufferable assholes...and you have phenomenal mid 90's music.

it's not oasis' best, but it's pretty great in its own right. lots of good stuff on here, but my favorite may be 'shakermaker.' it's bold, it's brash, oasis don't give a shit what you think. it's exactly them.

I've been looking forward to listening to Oasis the first time through this generator and I loved this album!

Brilliant

Solid debut. Not as good as their next album (which is a masterpiece) but pretty damn close. Favorites: Rock 'N' Roll Star, Live Forever, Supersonic, Slide Away, Married with Children Would I listen to it again: Yes

But Blur is still better

THE BEST ALBUM OF THE WORLD.

Great duo. Songwriting is amazing and the music is wonderfully put together. Oozes pop and sex appeal. Great rock and roll. Now that I’m older I can appreciate it more.

I dig the early sound that Oasis had, that ran counter to the more popular grunge in the 90s.

10/10 The album that started it all for me? 14-years old and it blew me away. Ive not listened to any album as much again, and although there are many I now consider better, I know I won't hear anything that will consume me so wholly as this album did. For such an album that was The One for me back in the day, I'm glad it still holds up as an excellent piece of guitar rock. The lyrics are really poor, but everything else is sublime. Still love it. They never matched it again, and I moved on, but this will always be a top 10 album.

fucking awesome

Masterpiece

Was about to give this a 4.5 because I had a headache going in, then Slide Away comes on. What was I thinking?

One of the craziest debuts of all time probably

Absolute banger, tho I think it’s the weaker of the two between this and WTSMG. The Gallaghers started their career right at their peak and the only to go was down. And that’s rock n roll.

Unreal

Biblical

probably the best Oasis album. When this came out, even if it followed the Stone Roses and Happy Mondays, it still found its place. Cigarettes and Alcohol, Live Forever…great days!

"Definitely Maybe" é icônico, com vários hits e grandes canções. A unidade formada pelas composições do Noel com a atitude de Liam nos vocais é muito forte e transformou o Oasis numa das maiores bandas da história. São vários bons momentos pra destacar, mas eu diria que "Slide Away" é uma pérola escondida entre tantas músicas brilhantes. Rock and roll simples, belas melodias e refrãos fortes, não tinha como dar errado.

A debut album that sounds so strong it could be a best of for most other acts. Even the lesser tracks (digsys and married with children are ridiculously strong in their own right

My dad was my age (24) when this came out and was a big fan, and despite the natural inclination to rebel against your parents' taste, this album is undeniable. I've heard Oasis songs a billion times growing up in England, but I don't think I've put on an Oasis album on myself and listened to it front to back before. It's background radiation here, though being from the South and not Manchester it's not so much part of my identity, and I've never felt the need to "get into" them. It's humbling and slightly mortifying to slowly turn into your father (Old man look at my life, I'm a lot like you were...), apparently he listened to the Smiths a lot as a mopey teenager in the 80s as I did in the 2010s. His parents were older when they had him, being born in the early 1930s they were too old for the Baby Boomer youth culture of the 60s (don't trust anyone over 30), all I can remember my Grandpa listening to is classical music, potentially some crooners, potentially jazz, but nothing too out there, fusion or avant-garde. My music taste is in some ways broader than my dad's, thanks to growing up with streaming, though very americanised. I listen mostly to 60s/70s singer-songwriters and 80s/90s/2000s Alternative/College/Indie rock, probably very little that he hasn't heard or at least heard of (read about in music magazines at the time). I'll often walk by him listening to Oasis, but also many much smaller, more obscure English bands of the 80s/90s that didn't make it as big, probably didn't make it to America at all and I would be unlikely to find out about, finding music largely through the internet. I haven't talked about the music at all because it's hard to say much about it. "It's just Rock 'n' Roll" (complimentary).

Debut Album. Rock n Roll Star, what a way to introduce yourselves on track one ! Tunes like that and Live Forever and Supersonic are so punchy and upbeat in an era where moody Grunge was ruling the airwaves. Shakermaker is also a good track ! Supersonic an absolute banger ! Cigarettes and Alcohol spoke to the working classes in the UK so much! Oasis best album and a seminal moment in Indie music in the UK.I love Married With Children as the last track, so funny.

One of the greatest albums of all time! I love every track. Liam’s voice is spot on, biblical as he would say. Oasis is my favorite band!

Favourite songs: Live Forever, Supersonic, Digsy's Dinner

I genuinely think Gallagher could start his own solo career, I mean what does the other one do, write songs and play guitar or whatever?

There is no other band like them.

Definitely maybe listened to this 3 times today

Every song a banger. I thought I hated Oasis but this is the second album I have given 5 stars for.

4/5 plus a star because i owned it. Make it 5/5

This album is awesome!! I will play this again!!

not as good as morning glory but a bloody banger of a debut album if 15 yo me has anything to say about it

One of my favorite albums of all time.

Obra maestra.

This is the stuff that put Oasis in the map - it's not my favourite but I appreciate it's good. Certainly one of the only good things coming out of the 90s

Reviews 9 and 10 of the Easter blitz, Oasis. I insist on listening to these two records side by side. Not because I’ve ever done that before, or because I have particularly strong feelings about Oasis’ imperial phase in the mid 90s. I haven’t, to my present recollection, ever actually chosen to listen to Oasis; in fact has anyone? Hyperbole, sure, but I wouldn’t be all that surprised if Oasis was a site-specific phenomenon that a person chooses to maximise their exposure to through numerous and studied life choices (pubs, football, football pubs, pub football etc.) rather than, say, a band someone buys the CD of. When Oasis reformed recently I didn’t really care. I was born 10 years too late for the full impact – their songs don’t function as a time capsule for me in that way (though their ubiquity as a cultural force means they appear in more than a couple of core memories; one of the worst hangovers I’ve ever suffered quickly springs to mind). The frenzy for tickets seemed quaint, the dynamic pricing totally cynical, the promise of a night transported to the Britpop 90s about as attractive as a night in a cheap tourist trap in Magaluf. But then the months rolled over, the buzz built to breaking point, the gigs loomed, and finally the Oasis vibes were declared to be in the area. And in that moment – awash with declarations from England’s comedy commentariat that this was the defining moment in their own cultural lives – I’d challenge anyone with a pulse and ears to rather be anywhere else than at those first arena gigs. It’s Oasis, they’ve got bangers, come on. Bangers like the immortal might of “Live Forever” – a song which, and I challenge you to better this review – is just really fucking great. Or the immediately hooky “Supersonic”; the blithely pensive “Wonderwall”; the truly, properly anthemic “Don’t Look Back in Anger” and “Champagne Supernova”; the thrilling cycling up the gears of “Some Might Say”; or the purest instantiations of swag ever committed to record, “Cigarettes and Alcohol” and “Roll With It”. Songs that will, rightly, exist forever in the cultural fabric (a cultural fabric that may or may not carry a Stone Island badge between the elbow and shoulder). Then there’s the tier two stuff, stuff that may actually have been the most influential: the melancholic “Slide Away” that sounds like a million subsequent indie bands (and especially mid-career, Marr-inclusive Cribs); or “Up in the Sky” that would slot into the track list of any number of mega selling indie records of the past 30 years, and most recently Fontaines D.C’s Romance. There’s some pretty shit stuff (“Cast No Shadow”, in particular; dreadful) too – but it’s never enough to even partially eclipse the good. And when they’re good, the truth is that there’s very few bands who can compete. It’s why Oasis can mean a great many things to an even greater number of people, and why no matter where you stand on that continuum that run tedious bores to total geniuses … you are standing on it. You can’t fail to have an opinion on them. And in some ways, that feels like the biggest artistic triumph imaginable.

Oasis may be loud assholes, but they made two classic albums in the beginning of their career, so they are often forgiven for being assholes. Definitely Maybe is the first, full of cocksure riffs, confident snarls, and a rock god sheen that makes these songs eternally cool. This was thrilling to hear back in 1994. I recall a guy in one of my art classes in college saying he’d just gotten back from an extended stay in London and that Oasis/Britpop (Blur, Pulp, Suede) were blowing WAY up. I was young and eager to be at the front of a “scene”, so i is snapped this album up. Fortunately this holds up decades later. Whatever a person feels about Oasis as a whole, it can’t tarnish the greatness of their first two albums.

Great album. One of his best work.

As is the way with Oasis, mixed feelings. They mined their seam expertly; in earnest, I don't think it lasted much beyond the two albums, although they mined a few more nuggets of gold amongst the gangue in later years. 'Definitely Maybe' has the naive charm; it has quality above what any debut is entitled to have; and it sliced through the worst of the self-pity of pervading grunge and shoegaze at the time. I listen to 'Live Forever' and it gives me a rose-tinted feel of the optimism back then. This may well be the worst album I'll award top marks - but despite all its faults, for capturing the zeitgeist, for all the nostalgia, for some bona fide classics; that must mean a five.

You can give Oasis shit for being brit rock, but they defined brit rock. 5* (4.5 rounded up) even though later albums are better. Highlights: live forever, maybe

The soundtrack of my youth...definitely maybe

this is the first time I’ve actually downloaded new songs from what I’ve listened to! see list below: “Rock ‘n’ Roll Star” “Shakermaker” “Columbia” (this one was REALLY good) “Bring It on Down” (peep the long guitar solo at the end 😍) “Slide Away” this album had me crying tears of joy (not really but metaphorically speaking). it’s so 90’s alt rock which is basically my entire music taste. idk why i didn’t listen to this earlier. thank you to this album generator for forcing me to listen to this before i die. 5/5🙏

Pure class

It's a classic, not only nostalgia. This is where pop and rock meet up to have a coffee. Five stars!

10 on 10.

It probably shouldn't get a 5 the be honest. But sometimes music doesn't need to be clever, or created with intelligent musicianship, sometimes it just needs to be anthemic rock.

A lot of the album sounds more like 80s music than 90s, but I think that’s mostly just because it’s britpop/rock. Some major hits in this like Shakermaker, Live Forever, and Supersonic. My favorite was Supersonic, but I was surprised at how much Portugal. The Man references Oasis - It’s easy to hear similarities in some of the melodies and occasionally lyrics.

Guilty pleasure. Ok, maybe not that guilty.

Absolute bangers

Copy of the Beatles or their own invention?

i love oasis bro

Hahahah I got tickets!!

Iconic. Listened on Vinyl.

I know understand the craze of oasis

I was only 7 when this came out, and in a super conservative American household to boot, so I don’t really remember this coming out, but what an absolute game changer it must have been. It’s such a contrast to grunge and most of the American rock scene at the time. These blokes just burst into the world with so much confidence. Perhaps a bit more confidence than earned, but that’s part of what makes Oasis so appealing. I do think What’s The Story Morning Glory is the band’s magnum opus, but this is a triumph as well. Rock And Roll Star is the perfect intro to the band. Live Forever and Supersonic are iconic classics. Cigarettes and Alcohol is a song that I took too much to heart in college. A brilliant debut from a band that’s probably going to make a bijilion dollars this year.

Uh yeah that’s perfect… to me

There’s a few rough spots in this one. But it doesn’t matter, it was a seismic moment for a band that was about to become the biggest in the world.

It's a cool and pleasant Britpop album.

Track listing : 1 - Rock N Roll Star 9/10 2 - Shakermaker 8/10 3 - Live Forever 10/10 4 - Up In The Sky 8/10 5 - Columbia 9/10 6 - Supersonic 10/10 7 - Bring It On Down 8/10 8 - Cigarettes And Alcohol 8/10 9 - Digsy’s Dinner 8/10 10 - Slide Away 10/10 11 - Married With Children 7/10

I love it - most people do. Those that don’t love it, don’t have ears

-i enjoyed this album!! -my fav song was love forever

One of the best first records. Has all the attitude, simplicity, and hooks you want from oasis.

i’ve trying to write something about the album that defined my music taste all morning. find out about oasis accidentally in high school and immediately bought green parka. aside from the singles, my favorite is slide away.

ROCK N ROLL STAR 8 Shakermaker 7.5 Live forever 9 Up In the sky 7.5 Colombia 7 Supersonic 9 Bring it on down 6.8 Cigs and alcohol 8.5 Digsys diner 8 Slide away 10 Married with children 6.5

So easy to write this off, but it's class, so much better than "What's The Story," because it has an element of doubt in tracks such as "Cigarettes and Alcohol" and the one about lasagne; a wobbly lack of confidence that proved to be completely unfounded but nonetheless gives the album a more human quality that's missing in Oasis' swaggering and thunderous later work. I also love the way that it's just the teeniest bit shoegazery.

i apologize to everyone for my tardiness. mice had nibbled on my headphones and i had a small meltdown until my therapist reminded me that mice entering my home during an extremely cold winter was not a moral failure on my part and i should stop freaking out anyway i loved this album because it soothed the angsty british teen boy within me. i do feel "how does it feel/when you're inside me" was a strange lyrical choice, perhaps because none of the members of oasis were women

Definitely (not maybe) the best Oasis album. However, I don't think it quite hits 5 status for me. I enjoy the album, but nearly every song (outside of Live Forever, which is god tier) is just on the "Much Better Than Average" tier, which I am not sure makes this elite. 4.5/5

all time fave - takes me right back to '94 and going to London

9.5/10

I listened to this one more than any other album in recent memory. I couldn’t stop coming back to it. The sound is piercing and raw without sounding cheap, the vocals are the perfect mix of clarity and emotion, and the lyrics are gorgeous.

BIBLICAL

Really good actually

Interesting

Still fresh

Love oasis, banging album, top tier

Definitely maybe giving this a 5 because I love Oasis.

100% great

ok this is probably just the nostalgia factor but these guys really made my childhood and i just fucking love them for it. i’ve got plenty of memories that are associated with their songs especially live forever and such, you know from listening to them while out having fun with friends and all so this album just means a lot to me, so to whoever doesn’t get it that’s your loss mate i’m actually sorry xx

Oasis is one of my favorite bands and this album helped shape my adulthood

This is totally just a me thing, but this is the best britpop album that I've heard, if you want to even call it britpop, because it honestly is just some killer-ass rock songs. 10/10

pure 90s feel some of the songs felt a bit too long the opening track is everything

Well; the whole is definitely greater than the sum of the parts with this one. It was just right at the time. I remember the huge buzz around them. You don’t get that very often. Has to be a 5

Absolutely mega, biblical, cool AF. Loved the debut album from Oasis when I was in high school, still love it today.

This could be easily top 10 best albums of the 1990. Simply perfect from top to bottom. Song order is superb. The way the album is heard its like a story and the up amd downs of love

A classic album that oozes 90’s vibes. Not a bad song on it. Live Forever is just a fantastic track.

The perfect album!! Pure rock and roll. It’s in my top 5 for sure. Favourite song: supersonic and slide away Least favourite: you couldn’t find a bad song on this album. Album artwork: One of the best covers of all time.

Amazing album

Otros discos del 94, el año del Brit: BLUR: Parklife, PORTISHEAD: Dummy, MANO NEGRA: Casa Babylon, SUEDE: Dog Man Star, NAS: Illmatic, PAVEMENT: Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain, NEIL YOUNG: Sleeps With Angels, AMERICAN MUSIC CLUB: San Francisco, R.E.M.: Monster, HOLE: Live Through This, JEFF BUCKLEY: Grace, MASSIVE ATTACK: Protection, THE AUTERS: Now I’m A Cowboy, NICK CAVE & THE BAD SEEDS: Let Love In, JOHNNY CASH: American Recordings, SEBADOH: Bakesale, UNDERWORLD: Dubnobasswithmyheadman, STONE ROSES: Second Coming, BECK: Mellow Gold, MARK LANEGAN: Whiskey For The Holy Ghost, TOM PETTY: Wildflowers, THE BEASTIE BOYS: Ill Comunication, KRISTIN HERSH: Hips And Makers, SABRES OF PARADISE: Haunted Dancehall, JON SPENCER BLUES EXPLOSION: Orange, NIRVANA: Unplugged In New York, ALI FARKA TOURE & RY COODER: Talking Timbuktu, PULP: His’n’Hers, THE PRODIGY: Music For The Gilted Generation, VERUCA SALT: American Thighs, THE WALKABOUTS: Satisfied Ma, MANIC STREET PREACHERS: The Holy bible, Elvis Costello: Brutal Youth, Smash de The Offspring

classic album, 30 years old now, we know all the songs

ITS SUCH A BIBLICAL MOMENT WHEN I RATED MY PREVIOUS ALBUM AND SAW "DEFINITELY MAYBE" APPEAR ON THE TOP OF THE PAGE. cause i am a simple-minded 10th grader aka oasis stan. anyway, oasis is a great band. and i'm going to write my review in an extremely chaotic way similar to me writing essays in school. and as we all know, the band's soul is the Gallagher brothers, with elder brother Noel playing guitar and younger brother Liam singing. The guy lying on the ground in the album cover is Liam himself, the self-claimed "RNR STAR GODLIKE RASTA ICON LEGEND BIBLICAL OMNIPRESENT PROPHET SPIRITUAL MAJESTICAL CELESTIAL OPTIMYSTIC BUDDHIST JEDI APPROACHABLE ZEN LOVER HUMBLE 🐝" as written in his twitter bio. his twitter updates once a day, with him saying hello to fans, and then reacting to fan's comments and talking about football, like, after manchester city's loss to liverpool in the premier league last month, he said, in a love me, love my dog way, "we piss all over the beatles". and even before he penned the bio, he was everything mentioned in it. surely, a true rock star knows how to stir up controversies: he argued with Noel nearly every day after oasis broke up and before they reformed months ago, he was involved in many fights, took drugs, and did a lot of rock'n'roll-styled things. but the thing that stands out the most, along with his attitude, is his voice. that fucking sarcasm. that fucking emotion. that fucking "shiiiiiine" which was dragged along the music and became a meme. and it goes so well with the lyrics noel wrote, probably while he was getting high, like the pure nonsense in "Supersonic" and "Shakermaker". And apart from the nonsense, there's some pretty philosophical things in the album, such as the lyrics to "Live Forever". "Columbia" on the knebworth live album is messy and chaotic, while the studio version is bit lame with distortion incomparable to the live. "Bring It On Down" is a hidden gem. "Digsy's Dinner" makes me want to eat lasagne, while "rock'n'roll star" is a solid hit while also functioning as the opening song. it all proves that Noel is half a genius at music, although not as good as Dylan or Lennon. But he can only enter his complete form with Liam at his side, singing the songs he wrote. "Definitely Maybe" is definitely maybe one of the best debut albums of all time. also, i'm going to manchester this winter and buy the man city & noel collab kit and maybe get tickets of them versus chelsea (at home). perhaps the next album i'll rate is "parklife" cuz damon is chelsea fan. congrats me =) 5/5

I’m not sure if this is a huge coincidence, or if the creator of the album generator did this on purpose, but Definitely Maybe following T. Rex yesterday is hilarious. I even commented in yesterday’s review that Cigarettes & Alcohol is very similar to Get It On! That aside, I’ve always loved this album. As a dorky little child, my two favourite bands were Oasis and 5ive (it’s a stretch to call 5ive a band, I know). Oasis’ sound is just so unique to them, and were such a defining moment in the UK music scene. It shows just how big Oasis were in their prime in how fast the reunion tickets have been selling. This is just an absolute banger of an album.

Great album. Defining.

Debut album at its best, such raw when if first came out and I was only 12. Just got the 30th Anniversary edition on vinyl and I really enjoyed the original recordings (Monnow Valley): No stand out tracks the whole album is a banger!!

Awful music made by awful people.

Definitely Maybe? Definitely Yes!

if liam and noel are literal brothers and they don't speak to each other then my friend drama is nothing

oasis has oddly always been a huge blind spot for me, so i’m glad this showed up! growing up, i only ever knew them as the “anyway here’s wonderwall” guys which maybe put me off of them but im glad to report this fucking bangs.

Best Oasis album

ABSOLUTE LEGEND! infinity/5

Probably still my favourite album. I have this and Morning Glory I got on vinyl last year. Both ones have the bonus track placed bizarrely at the end of the second record. I know a lot of people love it, but Sad Song is one of the worst early era tunes they did. Putting it at the middle of this album kills the flow so hard. Also I was able to secure 1 ticket to their reunion show in Toronto in 2025

Good vibes. I enjoyed listening to this one, though the songs were less pronounced than "What's the Story, Morning Glory?" 'Live Forever' was my take for fave.

Classic of the nineties. Hardly a below-average track on this record.

Another incredible debut, and arguably their best album. I might prefer Damon Albarn to the loutish pricks that are the Gallaghers, but the enjoyment and influence of this work can't be argued. The first two tracks are probably my least favourite but after Live Forever, it gets going and doesn't stop. The Beatles influences are nice to hear and the licks and hooks are catchy to Hell and back. The vocals aren't amazing but they are full of character which might even be better. For me, it's an album for getting ready for a night out, showering, pre drinks, and the walk into the first pub. Love it. 24/10/24

Still stands up, they were never as good as this album.

One of my favorite albums!

This album is worth listening. This album is the 90s. You must listen this album...definetely and not maybe

Quintessential 90's

A truly great album!

I’ve never listened to an oasis album all the way through before. These guys are really good. Great rock ‘n’ roll.

WHAT. A. BANGER. I absolutely LOVE this album. It has probably been top5 of 24 for me. I discovered Oasis in Jan24 and they haven't got out of rotation yet. This record is a true no-skips. I love the tons of overdubbing guitars and the wall of sound they create. So many classics like 'Supersonic', 'Cigarettes and Alcohol' and pretty much the whole record is made of classic tracks. Wish I could give this 6 stars. It is that good. SUN-SHEE-INEEEEE.

Well it’s an album I now know very well but at the time of release I was initially ambivalent towards it. I was well aware of the Britpop thing but more perhaps by the media coverage rather than listening to the music. I didn’t care too much about how Oasis conducted themselves. I thought that they were just big mouth Manc’s not appealing to me at all as someone born and bred in Yorkshire just over the border. So I was late to the Oasis party. But it was hard to escape the media hype and the constant plays on the radio and eventually I did realise that despite their personas the Gallagher brothers were indeed very competent musicians. So whilst this album probably escaped me the subsequent Oasis albums did very much appeal to me and that there is no doubt they have recorded some of the best rock songs ever. Some of their best songs were yet to come but there are some real bangers on this album Supersonic and Live Forever the standout tracks for me. Whilst perhaps not an out and out fanboy I do still love listening to all the Oasis albums including this. I do now have all their albums in my collection. I also recently spent a wasted all day Saturday online trying to get tickets for the Oasis reunion (or Noel Gallagher divorce fund) tour 2025 as I was never inclined to see them first time round. So those two facts mean that Oasis and this album have made a big impact on my musical life and my rating reflects this. 5/5 27/9/24

I’m a Blur guy, but that won me over

perfect album, no notes

ALREADY LISTENED rock ‘n’ roll star: 4/5 shakermaker: 5/5 live forever: 5/5 up in the sky: 4/5 columbia: 5/5 supersonic: 4/5 bring it on down: 4.5/5 cigarettes and alcohol: 4/5 digsy’s dinner: 4/5 slide away: 4.5/5 married with children: 4/5 overall rating 5/5. honestly was surprised how much i enjoyed it as i’d forgotten how good all the songs are. it was really hard to find a low point, i for one don’t think there really is one. all the songs were catchy and enjoyable, and although i didn’t rate them all 5/5 i think the album itself deserves that rating.

I remember when I bought this album after it came out. I was poor and made a rule that an album had to have at least 3 songs released that I liked. This and Blue Album were easy buys and I love every track.

Goated Best Oasis album

Amazing album 5 stars

Why do good things happen to bad people

Better than Morning Glory.

Man, watching the band play in the videos takes me back to the mid nineties, gawd everyone looks so young. I kinda tolerated the swagger back then, it seemed to work. Doesn't have the same appeal from middle aged men. Fooking good music from are kids

Really like oasis

Tastes like cheap cider and lambert and butler

Awesome album

A classic. No escaping from the fact that this was an absolute stellar album that changed the course of music (in Britain at least), despite the fact that the gallghers were bellends, britpop was short-lived, and this would have nowhere near the same impact if it hit today. One of the best debuts of all time, oasis forever chasing it's magic which they arguably only hit with the follow up, despite signs of wavering.

To paraphrase Mitch Hedberg: You either love them or hate them. Or think that they're okay. I know which camp I'm in.

4.5 Top wankers

its an amazing album 5/5

As you were

Best Oasis album

I want to be unpacking my shit to this album every time I move. Feels reminiscent, foggy, of good times in the past and prescient, vividly, of even more good times to come. Not even going to finish the album before rating, just going to enjoy it. 5

This album was instrumental in shaping my taste in music for the decades that followed. It’s still an absolute joy to listen to. One of my all time favourite songs lives on here, Slide Away, and the others are transportative. I can be 11 again. 13 at Knebworth or 19 in Victoria park. I miss this Oasis.

MY DAWGS. I will never shut up about this record. In my eyes it is flawless.

I knew a lot of the hits, and did have a loose appreciation for them, but upon sitting down to really listen to this... I think I love it! Lots of later Kinks going on. Some Beatles-esque compositions and harmonies. All around big-sound going on that I really like here. Probably the pinnacle of what I think of for Brit-Pop. My only complaint is why do you close such a powerful album with an acoustic sleeper?

There's no 'Maybe' about it - this is 'Definitely' a work of art that manages to calm, inspire, sadden, and liberate all in one. Every track is a testament to the 90s britpop music scene, yet they managed to transcend the average irritating tripe that was so commonly being created. Every song sets up an entire world so painfully familiar to us all, and being able to experience these worlds is truly comforting and healing.

The good Oasis album.

Absolutely amazing album. If you like this, and are not yet acquainted, listen to some Slade. Start with the album “Slayed?”

Not a boring moment in the album. 5 stars. Favorite track: Live forever other picks: Columbia, Supersonic, Slide Away, Married with children

Soilid Oasis album stuff

definitely yes 🥁 (idk if emojis will show up in reviews so in case it disappears there are drums next to my incredible joke)

They’ve always been an anomaly in my music taste. They’re different from most other bands I like but they’re my second favourite of all time. I guess it’s The Beatles’ influence. Love this album though it’s a shame people seem to under-appreciate it on here

9,5/10 Highlights Slide Away Supersonic Live Forever

i'm one of the few people that actually like Oasis. This is one of their best albums.

Classic Oasis, not their brightest

Get the BIG O back together, you stroppy cows!!!

One of those rare albums where you never skip a song! My favorite oasis album and the soundtrack to so many landmark life moments! A special nod to slide away! This album kicks ass!

"Definitely Maybe" by Oasis, released on August 29, 1994, is often heralded as a landmark album in the Britpop movement and a cornerstone of 90s rock music. This debut album catapulted Oasis to stardom, establishing them as one of the most influential bands of their time. Here, we delve into an in-depth review of the album, focusing on its lyrics, music, production, themes, and influence, while also evaluating its strengths and weaknesses. ### Lyrics The lyrics of "Definitely Maybe" reflect the raw, unapologetic attitude of working-class Manchester. Written primarily by Noel Gallagher, the album's lyrics are a blend of optimism, defiance, and longing. Tracks like "Rock 'n' Roll Star" and "Cigarettes & Alcohol" epitomize the band's hedonistic philosophy and desire for escapism. The former's chorus, "Tonight, I'm a rock 'n' roll star," captures the band's ambition and confidence, while the latter's line, "Is it worth the aggravation to find yourself a job when there's nothing worth working for?" resonates with the disaffected youth. Conversely, songs like "Live Forever" and "Slide Away" showcase a more introspective side. "Live Forever" is a declaration of immortality and perseverance, with the poignant line, "You and I are gonna live forever," reflecting a deep-seated desire for enduring legacy. "Slide Away" is a love song tinged with vulnerability, portraying a sense of longing and emotional depth. **Pros:** The lyrics are relatable and resonant, capturing the spirit of the 90s youth with authenticity and directness. They balance between brash confidence and tender introspection, showcasing Noel Gallagher's versatility as a songwriter. **Cons:** Some critics argue that the lyrics can occasionally border on cliché and lack sophistication, relying heavily on themes of rebellion and hedonism without much nuance. ### Music Musically, "Definitely Maybe" is a tour de force of anthemic rock. The album is characterized by its powerful guitar riffs, catchy melodies, and dynamic arrangements. The opening track, "Rock 'n' Roll Star," sets the tone with its driving rhythm and soaring chorus. "Shakermaker" follows with its laid-back, psychedelic vibe, reminiscent of The Beatles and The Stone Roses. "Live Forever" is arguably the album's centerpiece, with its uplifting melody and iconic guitar solo. The song's structure and production highlight the band's ability to create timeless, stadium-ready anthems. "Up in the Sky" and "Columbia" continue this trend, featuring hypnotic guitar lines and energetic performances. Tracks like "Supersonic" and "Bring It on Down" showcase the band's penchant for combining raw power with melodic sensibility. The former's infectious riff and swaggering vocals make it one of Oasis's most enduring hits, while the latter's aggressive approach adds a punk edge to the album. **Pros:** The music is consistently engaging, combining raw energy with memorable hooks. The guitar work, in particular, is outstanding, with Noel Gallagher's riffs and solos providing a distinct signature sound. **Cons:** Some tracks may feel repetitive in their structure and dynamics, and the heavy reliance on guitar-driven rock can sometimes overshadow other musical elements. ### Production The production of "Definitely Maybe" was handled by Mark Coyle and Owen Morris, with Noel Gallagher also playing a significant role. The album's production is notable for its "wall of sound" approach, characterized by dense layers of guitars, robust bass lines, and punchy drums. This sonic density creates a powerful, immersive listening experience that is both raw and polished. Songs like "Columbia" and "Supersonic" exemplify this approach, with their thick, multi-tracked guitars and echoing vocals. The production enhances the anthemic quality of the songs, making them sound larger than life. The use of reverb and delay adds depth and space to the tracks, creating a sense of grandeur and intensity. However, the production is not without its flaws. Some critics have noted that the mix can be overly compressed, leading to a lack of dynamic range. This can make the album sound somewhat monotonous over extended listening sessions. **Pros:** The production effectively captures the band's live energy and amplifies the anthemic quality of the songs. The dense, layered sound is immersive and impactful. **Cons:** The compression and layering can sometimes lead to a lack of dynamic range, making the album sound uniform and potentially fatiguing for some listeners. ### Themes "Definitely Maybe" explores themes of aspiration, escape, love, and defiance. The album's opening track, "Rock 'n' Roll Star," immediately sets the tone with its theme of ambition and the desire to transcend mundane existence. This theme of aspiration is echoed in "Live Forever," where the desire for immortality and significance is evident. Escape and hedonism are prominent themes in tracks like "Cigarettes & Alcohol" and "Shakermaker." The former's lyrics, "You could wait for a lifetime to spend your days in the sunshine," reflect a yearning for pleasure and fulfillment, while the latter's whimsical, carefree vibe suggests a retreat into a simpler, more enjoyable state of being. Love and relationships are explored in songs like "Slide Away" and "Married with Children." "Slide Away" is a heartfelt declaration of enduring love, while "Married with Children" offers a more cynical, humorous take on domestic life. Defiance and rebellion are also central to the album's themes. Songs like "Bring It on Down" and "Up in the Sky" convey a sense of resistance against societal norms and expectations, embodying the band's rebellious spirit. **Pros:** The themes are relatable and resonate with a wide audience. The blend of aspiration, escape, love, and defiance captures the essence of youth and the search for meaning. **Cons:** Some themes, particularly those related to hedonism and rebellion, can feel repetitive and superficial, lacking deeper exploration or nuance. ### Influence "Definitely Maybe" has had a profound impact on the music industry and popular culture. It played a pivotal role in the Britpop movement, alongside albums by bands like Blur and Pulp. The album's success helped to revive guitar-based rock music in the 90s, influencing countless bands and artists in the UK and beyond. The album's raw, anthemic sound and Noel Gallagher's songwriting have been cited as major influences by numerous musicians. Bands like Arctic Monkeys, The Killers, and Coldplay have acknowledged Oasis's impact on their music. The album's success also paved the way for Oasis's subsequent releases, including the massively successful "(What's the Story) Morning Glory?" In addition to its musical influence, "Definitely Maybe" has had a cultural impact. The album's themes of aspiration and defiance resonated with a generation of listeners, embodying the spirit of the 90s. The Gallagher brothers' outspoken personalities and rock 'n' roll antics added to the band's allure, making them cultural icons. **Pros:** The album's influence on music and culture is undeniable. It helped shape the sound of the 90s and inspired a new generation of musicians. Its success also solidified Oasis's place in rock history. **Cons:** The album's overwhelming influence has sometimes overshadowed the contributions of other bands and artists from the same era, leading to a somewhat narrow view of the Britpop movement. ### Pros and Cons of the Album **Pros:** 1. **Iconic Songs:** Tracks like "Rock 'n' Roll Star," "Live Forever," and "Supersonic" are timeless anthems that have become staples of rock music. 2. **Strong Songwriting:** Noel Gallagher's songwriting is a highlight, balancing catchy melodies with meaningful lyrics. 3. **Cohesive Sound:** The album's production and musical style create a cohesive, powerful listening experience. 4. **Cultural Impact:** "Definitely Maybe" has had a lasting influence on music and popular culture, defining an era and inspiring future musicians. **Cons:** 1. **Repetitive Themes:** Some of the album's themes, particularly those related to hedonism and rebellion, can feel repetitive and lacking in depth. 2. **Production Issues:** The dense, compressed production can sometimes result in a lack of dynamic range, making the album sound uniform. 3. **Overbearing Influence:** The album's dominance in the Britpop narrative can overshadow other important contributions from the same era. 4. **Lyrical Simplicity:** While effective, some lyrics may be seen as simplistic or cliché, lacking the sophistication of more nuanced songwriting. ### Conclusion "Definitely Maybe" by Oasis remains a seminal album in the history of rock music. Its blend of anthemic rock, compelling lyrics, and cultural impact has cemented its place as a classic. Despite some criticisms regarding lyrical simplicity and production choices, the album's strengths far outweigh its weaknesses. It captures the essence of the 90s with authenticity and energy, making it a timeless testament to the power of rock 'n' roll.

Fantastic.

Not perfect but still great..

Bloody brilliant

I go back and forth on Oasis. Sometimes I think they're great, and other times I find them derivative of other bands (particularly the Beatles). I enjoy this album more than the next one, where I think the Beatles imitation is more apparent. This album is more hard rock and psychedelic (but not really in a Beatles kind of way). Parts of it remind me of Zooropa-era U2 and other parts remind of me Wish-era The Cure, but I'm okay with that. There's also a song (I forget which one) where it sounds like a vocal impression of Johnny Rotten from the Sex Pistols — not sure if it was Liam or Noel. 4.5/5 — I debated between giving this a 4 or a 5, but I guess I'll round up.

Great songs and writing - imminently listenable.

A true classic.

Anyone reading who enjoyed the main album: I definitely recommend checking out some of the extra tracks on the deluxe edition. Sad Song, Take Me Away, Spaceman, Fade Away, Listen Up and Whatever are good songs. Some are a little more chilled out than the stomping rock of the main album. It's probably impossible for me to rate this objectively so might as well lean into the reasons I love it! I was a bit too young to be into Oasis the first time (I was 7 in 1994) but when I started getting into music and borrowing CDs from my dad, Definitely Maybe was one of the ones I latched onto along with Nevermind and compilations from the likes of The Smiths and The Jam I have strong nostalgia for listening to Oasis at gatherings with mates, on pub jukeboxes or in the car as we started passing our tests. It's probably the music that most reminds me of my late teens/early 20s, and the carefree times before adult responsibilities truly took hold On the music itself, it's clear that they weren't the greatest musicians technically but to be frank.. who the fuck cares. I love Liam's snarling vocals - how many other rock singers have such a distinctive sound and attitude? Noel's guitar riffs might not shred like Jimi Hendrix but they could make a stadium full of people bounce like few others I've ever seen. Oasis were a VIBE.

Listened twice, second time convinced me it was a 5.

classic album, no skips, 9/10

One of the Greatest Debut Albums of the 90s Favorite Track: Live Forever

So good. Only a couple songs went on a tad too long but only thing keeping from a perfect rating. Rating: 4.9

Stands up pretty well as a full on rock and roll blast of noise and energy. I think I liked this more now than I did then.

I tried to listen to this critically and objectively but just ended up singing along

Day100 - a milestone day and i get one of my favorite’90’s artists

I was not expecting this to rock so hard! I said this in my review of Green Day's "Dookie" that the lyrics are terrible, but they don't need to be good. It's not about the lyrics, they're just a vehicle for the music. This one rocks so hard that I missed an earthquake because I was listening to it with headphones on!

(1001: got kind of spoiled this week with Nirvana and Oasis back to back) Oasis is a great example of why British music just seems to work. I'm not really comparing them to the Beatles exactly, but their easy melodies and vocals make it just nice to listen to. The only really meaningful comparison I can make is that they are British. I definitely prefer the hits on their follow up a bit more so apples to apples I'd give the other a 5 and this maybe a 4.5 and round up, but it's still great. Favorite track "Live forever" 4.5/5

Great album, 9/10

sausages

Goede sound, klinkt echt megadik. Paar vette nummers, veel goede nummers

Yes, it's derivative. Yes, it's brash. But I still enjoy it as it was such a part of my music background growing up. This album is undeniably still good.

Oasis write pretty generic songs, but they are really good generic songs.

This one's an absolute classic and one that deserves it's spot in this list. Great album with great tracks. Love that kind of british music.

Great album!

well which one is it then

I’m serious a perfect debut this is up there with Justice and the strokes and wow I mean I love every song and they found their sound immediately I just wanna see the new record

not a single miss

Melhor disco dos anos 90!!! Melhor compositor = Noel. Melhor voz = Liam.

3/11/24. Incredible album, still recall the first time listening and couldn't believe how strong each track was. Delivers a punch for sure, and Liam's vocals are memorable.

Hook-laden post-grunge Britpop displaying its influences obviously. The production is massive and the tunes are instantly infectious. I was too cool to like this in 1994 but looking back I think it's great.

On my "Top 5 of the 90s" list... a treat to revisit. Still sounds Supersonic.

You can't deny this isn't a classic! Live Forever is one of the best British Indie records ever

Maybe it’s the accents but I’ve always felt Oasis’ sound was a modern day Beatles. Their songs always felt so perfectly mixed to me, the perfect balance of instruments and vocal volume. (What’s the story) Morning Glory was my jam in high school and I’ve never dabbled behind that but this album did not disappoint. I can feel my unibrow growing in with every track.

Best of britpop! I used to listen to this a lot in high-school. Smoked a lot of cigarettes and had lots of alcohol at that time.

Great rock and roll. Knew a few of their songs from radio, but never heard this collection. Glad I listened to the album several times.

Some albums define a stage in your life and evoke such strong happy memories. This is definitely (not maybe) one of those for me. I remember seeing these idiotic brothers being interviewed on a Sunday night MTV show I used to watch in my first house. Check me out - not watching whatever my dad wanted to watch for the first 20 odd years of my life. Their debut album was out the next day and I got to see a few of their tracks being played acoustically in the studio and their first video. I bought the album the next morning and it became the soundtrack to my first year of living alone. Well, my next door neighbour used to sing opera in the morning so she deserved a little fight back! Possibly the best opening track to a debut album ever, and so many anthems throughout. Difficult to pick out a favourite track but Live Forever, Columbia and Slide Away are immense. Still a ‘Go To’ album for me, usually in the car when I crank the volume and sing and air-tambourine and let it all out. So much swagger. Iconic album cover. Great videos. A perfect album.

We're gonna live forever, RIP BJ

feel like this is another one of those albums I'm not 'supposed' to like, but it jammed and I get the appeal

Favourite tracks: rock n roll star; shakermaker; live forever; up in the sky; cigarettes and alcohol; slide away; married with children; bring it on down; supersonic

Tonight/I'm a Rock and Roll Star is just about the most perfect statement of Album one, side one, track one 'We're Here now' possible. Listening to an album that just about every British guitar band has had to relate to in some way over the past thirty years, it's hard to recapture how fresh and brilliant this sounded when it came out. The template for every single Oasis album ever is already in place: four killer singles (here Supersonic, Shakermaker, Live Forever, Cigarettes and Alcohol), some solid album tracks that would be singles on other albums (not least the aforesaid opener), a soaring epic (Slide Away), and a throwaway acoustic number (Married With Children). And lastly, one track that sounds so like someone else's you can't believe they haven't been sued for a writing credit (here Shakermaker = I'd Like to Teach the World To Sing). If all the singles here are scored at 10/10, the great album tracks 9 and the others 8 take one off for each subsequent album, so by the depths of 5th album Don't Believe The Truth it works out at 6, 5 and 4 which sounds about right. Bonus: their B-sides in this period were better than most people's A-sides, and are included in The Masterplan which is better than any other album they did apart from this one and (possibly) the second. Overall 5/5. Lyrics: Noel for No(b)el Prize for Literature. I'll take my car and drive real far/You're not concerned about the way we are. Genius.

A genius debut. One of, if not the best debut album of all time.

A classic which I was already well aware of. Truly one of the best albums of the 90s, if not all time

It's definitely a banger. I played Rock n Roll star on bass for my GCSE music exam.

Hell yeah (Gallagher) Brother. Columbia, Married with Children, are my favorite non singles.

When this came out I was too much of an indie snob to appreciate it. Now that I’m older and less cool, I realized I was wrong. This is a great album and deserves all the accolades it has received over the last 2 decades.

Sometimes the dumbest things are the best things. This is one of those times.

Mentholzigarettes

Wonderful debut. All bangers no filler.

Straight up great rock and roll. No extra stuff, just amazing guitars

Best album so far. Not a single bad song that I would skip plus it has the perfect length

Is it derivative? Yes it is. Is it fucking magnificent? Yes it is.

One of the most unique sounds of the 90s, nothing really like it has come since. One of the 1st albums I bought as a kid. 8/10

I'm not sure how this was my first listen-though of this album. Songs like Live Forever, Slide Away, and Rock 'n' Roll Star have been mainstays of my alternative rock playlists for more than two decades. Definitely Maybe was such a fucking good debut album! The only thing that makes me sad or have any negative feelings about this listen is that we'll likely never get the Gallagher brothers to kiss and make up for a reunion. I never had the chance to see Oasis perform live. This album deserves all of the praise it's gotten and continues to get. Five stars.

First listen, unless you count "Supersonic" and "Live Forever". I have always prided myself on staying neutral during the 90's Britpop wars, on account of neither being British nor alive during much of that time period. However, as much as it pains me to admit, Oasis comes out on top for me. Was going to say the only stinker was “Up in the Sky”, but on subsequent listens I was 100% all for its “Day Tripper”-ness (Tripper-osity?) I've been blasting this album all day. Fuck Oasis. 10/10 HL: "Rock n Roll Star", “Shakermaker”, “Live Forever”, “Supersonic”, “Bring it On Down”, “Digsy’s Dinner” January 16, 2024

I can’t believe I haven’t listened to this album because I’ve listened to their second one. Some bangers (live forever) but also some skips! Feels kinda punky but in a gentle British alt psychedelic way

Never liked the Gallagher guys personally, but their music is cult und belongs to the nineties like

Classic album. Love every song and it is super nostalgic too. Immediately followed it up with What's the Story Morning Glory and the Masterplan.

Gonna see Liam perform this for it's 30 anniversary soon. Looking forward to it. Amazing album

All. Time. Classic.

Five stars for sake of 4 1/2 not being available. But I’m not hatin’—truly one of the great albums of its time, both as a meme and IRL.

Forgot what a banger Slide Away is. What a fun album! Reminded me of when I use to listen to an entire album, beginning to end, in the 90’s/early 2000’s.

Undeniably one of the greatest debut albums in rock history. They came up from nothing from a council estate in Manchester to being one of the loudest and biggest bands in the world. I always feel like I need to defend them for some reason. Why should someone need to defend a band that sold out shows back to back with 250,000 people? The reason this album and WTSMG and the Masterplan are so good is because they have hope entangled in them. There is a purity in this album that doesn’t feel like you had to be there in 1994 when it was released. Noel’s songs Live Forever. They became anthems. He’s not particularly great at guitar. His lyrics are pretty basic. It’s all heart and Liam sings like his life depends on it. For me, that’s all I need.

Banger

It may not be original or pushing any artistic boundaries but, madden my ferret, this album has energy and attitude. Almost 30 years old and aping music from 30 years before that, but still fresh and brilliant. Rock 'n' Roll Star - what an opener. It encapsulates the feeling of the entire album. Live Forever - a stone cold classic. Supersonic - Yes! Cigarettes and Alcohol - so good it doesn't matter that its a T Rex rip off. Slide Away - what a vocal! I used to love this record, and listening again for the first time in years, I'm equally surprised and delighted that I still do. A council estate masterpiece. Rating: 5/5 Playlist track: Rock 'n' Roll Star Date listened: 28/12/23

Best thing they have ever done!

Oasis’s debut is a cracker of an album and unfortunately the rest of their discography would never reach the heights of this masterpiece. Great listen from start to finish.

favourite oasis album ever

Pretty good! Very oasis,

Not much to say other than a certified classic. Deluxe edition especially with all remastered / live and alt versions. Could listen to on repeat. 4.5/5.

This album is Year 11 for me. I listened to it over and over and over. Just a fantastic statement out of the gates for the lads. Supersonic, Live Forever, Rock 'n' Roll Star, Cigarettes and Alcohol, Slide Away... hell, even Digsy's Dinner and Married With Children are incredible. Makes you want to snarl fuck off into a microphone with your hands behind your back.

I wondered if I actually loved this album and Oasis, or if I'd just heard every track so many times I'd developed Stockholm syndrome and convinced myself I enjoyed it. Fortunately, I'm convinced it's the former, and this is an excellent album.

One of my favourite debut albums

Nostalgic, makes me feel 17 again

I remember this coming out. Suddenly, the whole world was my oyster. I could do anything I wanted despite being a council estate kid with no money. It didn’t matter once I’d heard those opening riffs of Rock n Roll Star and Liam snarling at the world. Get yourself some good shoes, a nice jacket and a smart haircut and you can do anything! A perfect album. Swaggering, visceral rock n roll. Not a bad tune on the album. Mad fer it!

Probably biased, but my favourite Oasis album. Raw rock sounds and distortion in Rock n Roll star Supersonic Columbia etc. Not too complex but everything works great, Live Forever + Slide Away + Married with children make the album more well-rounded.

Amazing - first Oasis album I’ve listened to. Light rock, easy listening

Amazing

I didn’t want to like this. But I did. I liked it a lot. Fml

Definitely one of my favorite albums. Nostalgia hits hard with these one. Vividly remember them playing live in Caracas USB 2009, I went to the concert with my brother. Liam is the most amazing front man i have seen perform. I feel a big 'positive' rage when i listen to songs like "supersonic", while songs like "Slide Away" make me feel more melancholic. This is one of those albums I will listen to my whole life.

Timeless classic

About as subtle as being hit in the face by a shovel, and half the songs are ripoffs of other songs (Cigarettes & Alcohol is even in the same key as Get It On), but it's undeniably fun.

Was served this on the day that Lia, announced the 30th anniversary tour of it. A defining album and moment in Britpop and whilst Oasis became an overblown caricature of themselves you can’t deny the cultural impact of this album

one of those albums where you start to sing with it and end with the last song. absolute classic, one of my favs.

Iconic album, loved it as per usual

I mean it's a classic! Grew up listening to this!

Personal rating: 8,7

One of the best

excellent

Now here's one I can't be cynical about. Just fantastic, balls-to-the-wall exuberance captured as lightning in a bottle. I was on tour with them the week this came out (N Ireland), having never really heard much before. Was blown away how great and *loud* they were at the soundcheck; first up "Cigarettes And Alcohol" which, initially, I thought (genuinely) was a cover of "Get It On". Next: "Slide Away", instantly and forever my favorite Oasis song, as if Verve and The Stone Roses headbutted to make something even better. And they were *hilarious* together, for that brief period before they completely hated each other. Incredible moment in time; this album is excellent, more than good enough to ignore all the rest of their history.

Off the back of starting this project I happened to have downloaded Morning Glory recently and listened to it a few times during a very long drive over the summer. Probably the first time I'd listened to the band since the 90s with one thing and another. And it's full of absolute bangers and made me remember how damned good Oasis were. This isn't quite as good maybe - but it's close and repeated listening over couple of days has led me to appreciate it a bit more I think. The loudness is impressive and the style just iconic - I always preferred Oasis to the other Brit pop bands, although I'm just a little too old to have really been captured by all of that stuff. Really enjoyable with some really strong tracks and nothing that really lets it down. Yeah, I'll listen to this again.

If I had to pick a side in the Blur vs Oasis rivalry I would probably pick Blur...but if you pit the first two Oasis albums against the first two Blur albums it's not even a contest, Oasis all the way.

fantastic of course

Oasis are a brit pop/rock band, started by brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher. This is their debut album. Their second album, "What's the Story, Morning Glory" would propel them to worldwide fame. The stories about Noel and Liam's infighting are both legendary, and hilarious. For example, when in recording sessions for their second album, Liam takes a break and heads down to the pub for a few drinks. He comes back a few hours later drunk, and brings a bunch of random drunk people with him into the studio. Noel is furious, and starts berating Liam and beating his guitars. Liam grabs a cricket bat and hits Noel over the head with it! It is amazing that these two were ever able to make music, let alone the fantastic stuff found on this, and their other albums!! This album is fantastic. I didn't know what to expect, given I only knew their newer stuff, and was unfamiliar with anything off of this record. Overall, this album is amazing. Not a dud on it at all. A nice light rock feel to it. I usually tend to hate brit pop, but this is brit pop with a pulse. It has a more rockin' feel to it. Will 100% listen again!! Favourite songs: Up In The Sky, Rock 'n' Roll Star, Bring it on Down, Supersonic, Live Forever, Cigarettes & Alcohol, Slide Away Least favourite songs: Married with Children 5/5

Absolute class. The album that started it all in the UK

Sometimes you’ll see quotes from Liam or Noel about what a rock star should be and sound like and think, “these guys are ridiculous.” Then you play this again and remember that these guys know what they are talking about.

I fucking love Oasis and I fucking love this album, one of the best debuts of all time by a long shot.

This was always going to be a 5. I’ve listened to it hundreds of times.

Banger. I’m here for all of it

On their debut album Oasis was reaching for the stars and was able to hold it together. Yes, it is derivative, but it is also filled with exceptional music. While not necessarily a reaction to grunge, its harkening back to great British rock bands was welcome. The heavy guitars and tunefulness is as great today as when this was released. Now if the brothers could only get along.

A classic Britpop album. Morning Glory has all the hits but this has Live Forever

Stellar album, Live Forever, Supersonic & Slide Away were highlights, just an easy listen and repeatable

What a debut album. Yes, the lyrics are largely simple or nonsense, but they are so catchy and anthemic it doesn't matter. Their music makes you want to sing with your mates I already love Oasis and this album so it's kinda hard to be subjective.... But, after hearing so many Beatles albums on this list, I appreciate more how similar sounding oasis are and how much they borrowed from the Beatles I regret not seeing oasis live, closest I got was Noels high flying birds. They played loads of Oasis songs so was pretty close and it was great. Strangely got a picture of George best on the cover. Rodney Marsh too though. So many good tracks here but my favourites are: Slide away Cigarettes and alcohol Supersonic Live forever (the best track) Rock n roll star Easy 5 stars

Love it all. Slide Away in particular has always been a fave

One of the albums that formed my world

I mean, it's all fairly elementary. Nothing too groundbreaking, except that 90s rock is just GOOD. And I don't know what it is about Oasis, but damn, I just love their particular brand of 90s rock, combined with that quintessential Britrock drawl. And seeing as this is their first studio album, it's my opinion that they had things soooo right, even from the beginning. This album is fun, easy to listen to, and has just the right amount of 90s alternative distortion. I can't help but love it. This is a 4.5 that is getting bumped up because when this last song finishes, I'm going to start the album over.

I love Oasis, and I know that some of the reasons I love them is why others may dislike them and I think that's fair. I think Liam's voice especially in the early years is absolutely brilliant and unique. I think Noel's songwriting ability is top top tier. You can argue that most of the songs lyrics make no sense, but I think it's a talent to make people feel so much emotion with the songs even though they make no sense. The album just slaps from start to finish. Doesn't get much better than this

Todella hieno debyytti! 5/5

Törkeän kova eikä tunnu kuluvan. Live Forever ikisuosikkeja. Lopussa pari biisiä liikaa, mutta menkööt cd-intoilun piikkiin.

Classic/10

An instant celebration when I saw this album pop up: every single song slapped, maybe bc I've listened to it before but that is besides the point. I enjoyed the riffs and each and every song was better than the last. I love a little bit of Oasis and what they have to offer, definitely a new classic for me and it was amazing.

No question about it. This album IS Oasis.

Album 28 of 1001 Oasis - Definitely Maybe Favorite Track : Slide Away Rating : 4 / 5 Very good album. This came out on the same day I started working for the company I still work for, back in 1994. I was juggling being a single parent and trying to get my feet back on the ground in the working world. My time was split between music and sports talk. While I was familiar with a couple of songs, the whole album just slipped by me. Very good debut album. No arguing that. Thought about rating it a 5 but thought I would only be doing that because of the overall reputation of the album rather than my initial opinion. After more listens, I could change my mind. This deserves more time.

I remember this being released, I was about 11 years old and there was a buzz about this new band called Oasis. They really blew up with the subsequent What's The Story..., but this album as a raw energy and some absolute belters. I remember listening to Live Forever on repeat, then Slide Away, then Married with Children. Fun times.

Love it, which may just be a bit of sentimentality because at the time this was just one of those debuts that made you go "wow". But every time I listen to this album I just think it's great.

Excellent

Hard to argue with this one.

love it

Masterpiece, even if Shakermaker is a bit wank and the production is ghastly.

Feels fresh and relevant after all this time.

Best album ever love it

Yes! What an excellent Saturday album. Bopped along to this while chugging a cup of yorkshire tea - black. A masterpiece 5/5

I don't think I'd properly sat down to listen to a full album by Oasis prior to this, and I really should have sooner. Amazing throughout.

People who say that the britpop albums on here are rubbish are either just talking shite to sound pretentious listening to their weird obscurest jazz album or are hardcore grunge diehards that won’t give into the acceptance that britpop is good (even after like 30 years). Because it’s from a popular band definitely maybe actually has a decent score but I bet the “uurgh I hate britpop” crowd are here somewhere. Anyway the album itself is great though from the obvious great singles “rock and roll star”, “live forever”, “supersonic” and “cigarettes and alcohol” to perfect album tracks ranging from the trippy “Columbia” the punky brawler “bring it on down” and the stunning climax “slide away”. Yeah there is “digsys dinner” which is comical and stupid and “married with children” is quite a half arsed closer. But all the best albums have at least one runt of the litter. The only reason why it might not be a universal 5/5 is liams voice but I don’t hate it; it’s got it’s charm. So yeah 5/5.

From the second this starts to the end, you can practically smell 1994. For me it's the album that changed everything and it stands up. Absolutely storming - controlled chaos.

Rating: 9/10 Debut studio album from Oasis released in 1994, spurred a revival in British pop music and is considered as one of the most influential albums for the ‘Britpop’ music of the 90s. Only Oasis album to feature all 5 members. 1) Rock ‘n’ Roll Star - Such a powerful song to open the album, top vocals from Liam, brilliant solo too 2) Shakermaker - Great riff throughout song 3) Live Forever - One of the greatest songs ever written by Noel Gallagher, incredible song, 10/10 4) Up in the Sky - Brilliant vocal performance from Liam, quite an underrated song from the album 5) Columbia - Simple song, brilliant singing with Liam and Noel on chorus 6) Supersonic - Incredible guitars throughout 7) Bring it on Down - Such a strong song, one of my favourite Oasis songs 8) Cigarettes & Alcohol - Brilliant T-Rex sample, one of Oasis’ best songs, classic 9) Digsy’s Dinner - Underrated song, lasaaaagnnnaaa 10) Slide Away - Classic, again another hit 11) Married with Children - Another very good song, busker classic

YES! This album defined my early teens! The distorted guitar riffs, the off-key vocals (that give it it's all anyways), the corny yet impactful lyrics! I love it all. The album also just feels cohesive and coherent. Each song flows intuitively into each other. Strong album from start to finish!

great catchy pop rock. hit after hit

One of the best albums of all time.

I always maintained that I didn't actually like Oasis, but mind changed. It started out take or leave and then somewhere around Supersonic it got me. Then it just went from there and by the last song, I was well in. I thought it was the drummer that hooked me because gosh damn that drumming is epic... but then the last song had no drumming and in fact, sealed the five stars. Love it. LOVE IT.
