oh my, album 11 on the list and this one was really tough going. I had to push myself to listen to them songs and I am afraid I just don't like the artist's voice / tone of his voice. Music itself while sounded SORTA fun at times felt messy and noisy. Some sound effects were really sore on the ear and I didn't find them necessary to be there at all. Can you even listen to this in headphones? I wouldn't say you need to listen to this before you die, but maybe someone really digs it and sorry to hurt your feelings lol

I understand why this is "smart" music, but I found it largely painful to listen to, and some nice bass hooks and rhythms don't hold back that dislike. Pass.

Cmon Beck you can do better than this Guero was a pretty solid album, where my main problem was not really getting me absorbed in the music but there was a lot of stuff I thought was cool about it, where this one was just straight up garbage. Way too experimental for my liking, just throwing random sounds together and distorting the tracks will always piss me off. And don’t get me started on the vocals being robotic garbage the whole time, that would have been a fine gimmick for a song or two but not the whole album. It’s not completely unsalvagable, as there’s parts every once in a while that kinda groove, but I had a negative reaction to pretty much every single song in the end Originally I though the final track just being a normal albeit unremarkable song would save this one from being a 1 for me, but going by my own rating system why the hell would I listen to this one again? I know this is probably my hottest take for the entire list but I just don’t see the appeal at all, it’s not even great background noise. Very fucking weird. No me gustó para nada, literalmente bizarro en maneras que no puedo explicar. Si fuera bizarro a nivel 'literalmente esto es turbo noise y no tiene sentido' sería otra cosa, pero esto es distinto, las melodías están, los lyrics están, solo siento que nada pega, que no tiene sentido. Literalmente no entiendo qué hace en esta lista, y eso que en otros casos si lo entendí.

Didn’t do much of anything for me.

There are parts that I like, then it's just some random noises that pull me out. Novacane is a prime example to me. The album jumps around so much, and when there is a part or song that is somewhat cohesive, it's then turned on it's head by Beck dragging his nails on a chalk board. I can understand why people like this, but none of the songs captured my attention or were catchy enough for me to remember.

I tried, really, I did. Only halfway through and was done. One star.

Trying to listen to this after watching a Futurama episode making a caricature of Beck only days prior was complicated, to say the least. The attempt at a nonchalant sound with just enough exploration to make it seem like effortless genius did not succeed for me. I find this to be pretentious

It kinda sucks. I don't like the mix of folkish rock with old school hip hop, and music feels out of tune and inharmonious (if that's even a word) and some instruments felt like they were inappropriately played. I understand that it was experimental, but it’s clear that Beck blew the entire lab up. Wasn't the most pleasurable listening experience.

Guero was complete trash, so I went into this with no faith. This thing was certainly better than Guero, but holy fuck did this scream 90's to me. It hasn't really aged that well. The honky tonk-esque guitar playing random notes over a drum machine patten is so generically 90's it felt like I was watching a cheesy 90's film. Lord Only Knows was shocking for that. As soon as the stupid breakdown with the ANNOYING ass beep boops came on in Novacaine I knew this was getting downgraded to a 2. Fuck that hurt my ears. Then followed by another shithouse 90's song "Where's It At", fuck cunt this is SO ANNOYING. Any time the hip-hop-esque shit came on I genuinely had my hands in my face wanting it to fucking end. This is overall more tolerable that Geuro but man when this guy wants to be annoying he really excels at it. The latter half of this genuinely sucks man. Who the fuck enjoys Beck's music? I am baffled. This was going to be a 2 but the last 4 songs left such a sour taste in my mouth it's getting a downgrade.

Certainly "creative", got some experimental vibes going for it. However, the overall result was a listening experience about as smooth as sandpaper. 'Jack-Ass' was a pretty nice listen, though.

Oh damn, I have that album and I can't stand it. "Odelay", Beck in simply shit. I don't usually throw albums away. I rarely give them away in the hope that I'll like them someday, but I was close to giving "Odelay". It's not experimental or innovative, or even ahead of its time. The album is a collage of junk snippets. If it really took that long to produce, then it was a total waste of time, or simply overproduced. It's definitely overhyped. So, I give it one star because I have to, but I'd really like to give it a minus three.

I feel like I should like this more. It's cool but it's not drawing me in. Jack-Ass sounds like a slightly better Lou Reed. Actually a lot of this sounds like if Lou Reed tried sampling and like hip hop. Not for me, but better than any actual Lou Reed stuff I know.

Strange album. It feels like Beck was so preoccupied with jamming every possible genre, instrument, and sound effect into this record, that he forgot to actually make a cohesive album of good songs. It’s eclectic, and that’s not necessarily a bad thing in and of itself, but it feels so random and disorganized that it’s really hard to enjoy it. “Hotwax” is almost offensive in its attempts to capture some kind of backwoods country western sound. I think I can mostly sum this record up as if you took Modest Mouse, made them terrible somehow, and tossed that in a blender with every early 90’s white boy rapper. 1*. No bueno.

Not terrible but really a disappointment coming from just having listened to Guero. Devils haircut and Where its at were highlights but you can kinda tell he was going for a couple more radio friendly singles with those.

I'd heard of Beck but never really listened to him. I found this album very disappointing. I couldn't get into it. It seemed very disjointed.

Good god this album is annoying. Before I listened to it I would have said I was a fan of Beck’s based on the singles, so I was surprised to find how much I disliked this onslaught on nonsensical noise. Just awful.

The last song in the album keeps this from being a 1/10, but while they were trying to be interesting, they forgot the music did still need to be good. Just not something I want to listen to.

I’m torn, because I really liked the first song, but absolutely hated the second, and the rest of the album was a mix of mediocre and fine. Even the songs themselves started good sometimes and then went downhill. This album bas potential and was almost good, but the vibes were just off and that good first song is not enough to warrant a high ranking. I also kept hoping for loser baby but it’s not on this album apparently, if it had been it would’ve been enough to catapult this into a 3

Okay, I’m biased because I’ve never liked Beck. I saw him live in 2016, and his stage presence was as painful as his music. At least now I can say I gave him another try, and my opinion still holds. For me, this album was as objectively terrible as Trout Mask Replica. The difference is, Beck takes himself waaayyyy to seriously about it.

Beck is weird. I think we can all agree on that. Whether in a good or bad way is up to the listener. Not really a fan of his stuff in general other than Loser.

High 5 and Derelict is pretty nice, otherwise terrible songs. Ramshackle is ok. I get it, it's experimental, but it's not the "hey I bought some exotic spices, let's make a fun dish" kind of experiment, it's more like "a test-tube blew up in my face" kinda vibe. Me not likey.

For whatever reason, Beck has never clicked with me.

Ok because I actually hated this album so much I wanted to skip every single song because it made me so angry. Like actually it was awful every aspect of it from the weird robotic sounds that fit nowhere but were everywhere to the singing which was just trash this time. NOT a fan.

The first album on the list I’ve never listened to, by a band I never really got into. Beck isn’t totally my cup of tea. I find most of the audio distortion he uses to really grate in my ears and his talk-sing style I’ve never found too appealing. The one song I liked was “Where It’s At” and even that has an annoying squeaky sound during the chorus. I found some songs completely intolerable, and the ones that were listenable were rather boring. And that hidden track of computers having sex was enough to even put Ciara over the edge. I can’t ever really see my listening to this again and though I tried, I stand by my thought that Beck just isn’t for me.

I just can't force myself to listen to this album again. Way oversaturated on Beck decades ago. I do not like this album Sam-I-Am.

A collection of nonsense

Malisímo álbum.

A messy album. The singles are catchy but the rest sounds like various streams of consciousness which were handed over to the Dust Brothers to make something of. I struggle to find a thread or story holding this all together. It all feels like it's trying too hard to be 'quirky', and ends up more wack than wacky.

The slacker feel sounds tedious. I felt like I was transported back to a crappy early 90's bar. How the chuffers did this break through to the mainstream? Gawd, it's shit.

I remember finding this album intensely annoying when it came out. There are a handful of good tracks surrounded by annoying crap. Alas, my opinion is unchanged after this listening.

Don`t like it, pretty boring, some good elements in some songs but that's it.

1 Nonsense and noise. All overlayed on top of the same goddamn drum track. It doesn’t help that I already thought Beck was boring and a borderline plagiarist. Devil’s Haircut is only cool because of Dude, Where’s My Car and Where It’s At is a bop. Short of that I can’t figure who this is supposed to be for?

Boring, uninspired, at times stupid, Beck sounded uninterested throughout the entire album. Add onto that the occasional loud screaming and screechy instrumentals, and it all makes for an unpleasant listen. I don't hate Beck's other works, but I absolutely hated this album, and while I can normally understand why an album I didn't like received critical acclaim, I can't with this album.

Best Song: Where It's At. Succeeds (partly) in instilling the chill vibe that I think the rest of the album is striving towards. Worst Song: High 5 (Rock the Catskills). Unironically sounds like a Kid Rock song. Overall: Slow and monotonous droning that absolutely is not for me.
