Reviews (page 11 of 12)
Другой альбом этой группы в списке произвел сильное впечатление, а этот, по большей, части, прошел мимо. Не могу назвать его обязательным для прослушивания. 5 из 10 .
First, hate the cover, it is distressing. Other than that I liked this album much better than the other Supergrass that was generated for me. I don't love it, but it is generally listenable with some good bits which remind me of various other British bands. Alright is an undeniably good song, Sofa of my Lethargy is nice, and Time To Go is super cute as the last song.
Good album. Solid but not spectacular.
nothing special - one or two good songs - and not even my favorite Supergrass cuts
couple classics
good
“Alright” is one of my favourite songs but the album as a whole is underwhelming
It was okay. Thought I’d like it more than I did. Oh well!
A mixed bag
It was fine, energetic, and British, so of course it made the list. Seriously though, kind of fun and quick.
Super trava, juhu. Album na granici između trojke i četvorke, više na trojku na prvo slušanje.
Listened to on 4/27/22 2.5/5 Favorite song: alright, sitting up straight This album didn’t have an established vibe which made me like it less (very chaotic songs and then a few solid bops) but would listen to again
Everything else other than alright was fine
This one was a bit of a weird one. It was a punk rock style throughout, but right at the end they dropped a psych-rock/prog-rock track as well. It was fine overall, probably won't come back to it though. Highlights: 1, 2, and 4.
This one was fine enough. I don't love or hate it. There have been a lot of those lately. Fave track: "Time to Go," the closer. Found the melody lines kinda forgettable in this one. Vocals were okay, but wouldn't re-listen.
Good album, nothing earth shattering but a decent listen, I enjoyed it.
I love Supergrass and I believe the band's grossly underappreciated. However, I also believe the band has peaked and perfected its sound with its self titled album from 1999; I find this one a bit too rough around the edges, despite some great tunes (and I love Sofa of my lethargy!).
Pretty fun! Didn't realise they had done some of those songs.
Fine record, with good moments and some not so good moments.
Actually pretty decent.
[thumbs up]
Didn’t love is.
festival rock. don't particularly care about the band but it's a lovely day and everyone is having a good time. bunting, plastics of beer, think I might eat a dubious burger
very cvnt
Alright. See what I did there. None of it comes close to that track though. Decent stuff but not entirely in my preferred style.
I enjoyed some songs on this- nothing too notable for me.
3+ I liked it
My band opened for these guys in London Ontario, in 1994 I think. Nice guys. Good band.
Fun little record. Best track: Alright
A soiled nappy blowing in the wind. It lands on the unsuspecting face of Gaz Coombs. He spends the next 10-12 working days trying to get the shit out of his sideburns. It has become hard and knotted. Eventually Gaz gives up and takes his own life. There's a lesson to be learned here.
Alright
Two thirds of an album of bangers that falls off a cliff towards the end.
Wild and frantic album
Fun if inconsequential sounding album. Britpop is a pretty middling genre in general in my opinion and this isn't doing much to change my mind but it's entertaining enough.
Really don't like the album cover but the music is good. 3/5. Second time listening and a few of the songs are growing on me.
I missed this one when it came out, but then again, I was living in NYC listening to the last bit of metal glory and the rising grunge scene. This style of post-punk / pop-punk wouldn't catch on for some time, by which time I've moved on. It's okay for what it is, I think there are albums that better capture the pop punk British sound of the time. 3/5.
A lot more varied and interesting that the early tracks would suggest. A healthy lack of seriousness and a focus on having fun.
Supergrass harkens back to the British Invasion and Mod scene with I Should Coco. It is a solid album with notable tracks and "Alright" has a stay in the cultural scene that most bands would be envious of.
It's okay. I remember really liking this back when it came out though.
Feels
An interesting, angular LP that harkens the arrival of Jack White 4 years before the White Stripes would drop their S/T. Not all of the slower tracks work alongside the familiar-yet-skewed uptempo rock songs, but the overall product is one that warrants a relisten by far.
Interesting listen. Not incredibly special.
Lord, I wasn't ready for this at 08:45 on a Friday morning. The first song almost gave me a heart attack I had it up so loud. With this type of music, it sounds like the same fella has universally sung all of them as the voice always sounds the same. The song 'Alright' seems very out of place in this album, when it came on I had to check it was still playing the right one. If only the other songs had that vibe. The song titles probably entertained me more than the songs themselves, She's So Loose is an excellent example of that. The final song, Time To Go, I just found a bit strange and a cringey end to the album. Now, the album cover I'm not a huge fan of, its not a great painting if I'm honest, looks like something for a Year 10 art project. And because of the font, I read the title as 'I should GoGo' rather than CoCo which isn't ideal. 5/10 for the album cover.
Some good tracks here but the rest of the album sounds too samey to be all that memorable
Ihan mukavaa rallattelua. Hittibiisi oli entuudestaan tuttu ja muuta tuotantoa saattanut joskus kuulla. Kiva pläjäys viime aikaisten paskojen sekaan.
Það eru til betri Supergrass plötur, en þessi er hress og skemmtileg.
The name is familiar but somehow this band has completely escaped my knowledge despite being up my alley. Giving it a 3 but could move up to 4 with some more listens.
Like this album's big hit it was Alright! It definitely grew on me thru the day. I liked! Strange Ones Time Sofa of my Lethargy Originally would have rated a 2 but I like those 3 songs VERY MUCH. I'd like to know where all the strange ones go.
Some great Britpop here. Alright is an absolute banger of a song and classic Britpop. Caught by the Fuzz is another great track. The rest of the album is a bit of a let down. Some good songs, though they sound a bit samey. Alright, however remains a brilliant song.
Nou dat was lekker energiek.
Leuk, fris bandje.
Decent. Punk sound. I'm sure they were influential. Not really my favorite type of thing anymore. "Alright" was the best track.
This is an entirely new album for me. Loving it so far - nice energy. Long, though - 3 hrs of music?! I accidentally grabbed the 20th Anniversary album, which had a lot of live stuff on it, which didn't excite me much.
pretty good, not the biggest fan of british pop.
Interesting
Actually pretty good fun, first few tracks are great. Almost a 4 in places
enjoyable 90s britpop but wouldnt listen again
Didn't hate it, didn't love it. Alright just reminded me of my junior high/swim team BFF and going to see Clueless at the movies back when you'd beg your parents to drop you off away from the front door so they couldn't embarrass you. Bonus point for that nostalgia.
‘I Should Coco’ is more super catchy melodic guitar rock, with touches of psychedelia, more fun, and slightly less introspection and darkness then their other album in this book ‘In It For The Money’.
I found the first song to actually be a little bit jarring, but I settled into the music after a couple of songs. I feel like I have heard the song “Alright” before, though I do not recall hearing of this band previously. In the end, I found this album alright (heh), but not really one I’d make an effort to hear again.
Good album
Decent rock album that doesnt contain any songs though that leave a lasting impression
I really liked the song alright- it’s widely known and it was surprising to hear that it was on this album other than that album was OK some of the songs from weird some of them were fine so they eventually just cancelled out
Solid Brit-pop/pink.
Prima album, niet heel bijzonder
Not bad
good listening. I don't think any of the songs will be long time treasures but still pleasant to listen to.
Pretty eclectic mixture of songs, sometimes just one song was an eclectic mixture. I liked "Sitting Up Straight" but not much else.
Cool variety
It sounds like one of the top 25 albums of 2006, until you realize it was from 1995. This sound lived on
Alright. Few standouts but few duds
The first 4 songs of this album are amazing but then the rest of it is mundane. I want to rate this as a 4 but it's not quite at that level.
Hadn't listened to this album in full before, pretty good but didn't quite stick with me, but a fun sound overall
Modern British punk sound, high tempo. Pretty good but I won't listen again.
I liked a couple songs but overall not my speed. There were some moments that they sounded like the Stones though, so that was cool.
Had alot of fun with this one
Nice album, it’s got me in the mood for more Brit pop
Too british
Classic
Pretty good extremely disappointed that I didn't hear about this band sooner.
Um álbum de rock com traços de pop e punk, é relativamente divertido mas parece algodão dose musical, ou seja enjoa a certo momento. A melhor cantiga é a Lose It. Nota: 5/10 Data03/10/2025
Part brit pop, part indie rock with smatterings of grunge laced throughout. Not particularly cohesive as an album but some decent songs on it nevertheless : 'She's so loose', 'sofa of my lethargy' and 'time to go' being the pick of the bunch.
It's rare that I don't dislike punkish music, but this one sort of hit the right spots. I liked how it was upbeat without being "just fun" (=super annoying). The songs were more structured and the chaotic parts thereby more enjoyable to me than usual for this style. Not something I'd listen to again, but a good experience. I really liked Sofa Of My Lethargy, that was a very good song.
Not bad
It was okay.
day two: 02/01/21
TIL Supergrass and Superchunk are different bands. Grass is not chunk and chunk is not grass. I saw chunk at the Funhouse once and it was ok. Grass would've been superfun. Superenergetic. Almost the kind of youthful energy that can make an old 36 year old man feel exhausted, but not today. They sound like many bands I can't recall from the early 2000s that came aftergrass. Maybe Hot Hot Heat? While the US was getting into alternative and aftergrunge, these British kids were playing fun punk that's not afraid of a giant happy major chord in the chorus. Seems very out of its time but pretty cool in 2021. Not sure when I'll play this again, but maybe if live music returns I'll hear "Alright" playing lightly in the background after the house lights come up. B
I think Jack White owes these guys some royalties for vocal stylings. A lot of uptempo white stripes vibes, almost as if the white stripes were the devil on the shoulder and super grass was the angel. Definitely a precursor to the “the” bands: the strokes, the vines, the hives, etc. really fun album, but got a bit repetitive for me. I enjoyed the latter end of the album after the uptempo stuff got a bit tired. B-
It's okay, fairly fun and works as a good britpop album but it's not really my thing is it
The sort of rock that I forgot I was listening to halfway in.
Fun, eccentric, Brit pop at peak Brit pop. I enjoyed this. A good pick me up in the morning. Nothing groundbreaking or awe inspiring but I could see where MGMT drew some influence. I could almost hear them in some of these songs.
not as great as i remember it being
High energy, bouncy and catchy. Can hear why Steven Spielberg wanted to make them into the new Monkees. Is it a 3 or a 4? Probably a 3. A bit one time.
Omfg I’ve just added ‘Caught by the Fuzz’, ‘Lose it’ and ‘Sitting Up Straight’ to my running playlist, man alive. The guitar solo in Sitting Up Straight made me want to put a chair through a window. I actually might given the current climate. I give those tracks solid 4s, rest of the album gets a 3.
not as good as I remembered it, but has great moments
carico si ascolta bene!
Enjoyable, but I don’t rate it as iconic.
Some nice rock/punk/Brit pop vibes but not life changing. Could defo enjoy lying out on some grass, smoking some grass and listening to Supergrass.
Alright was the only Supergrass I had heard of before, but after listening the rest of the album seems alright too.
had a few good jams
Pretty enjoyable, like a boppier Blur. "Alright" is a teen anthem I forgot about. Would do 3.5 if I could
Good and solid fun, innit. I feel like if I grew up with this album, I'd give it a four and I'd give it a three and a half if the site would allow it. But as it stands, this Aussie gives it three slices of fairy bread out of five.
Time to good
3.5 stars. Really liked it
Poprock/punk, tempofyldt, opløftende
Punk rock, 3,5/5
fav songs: lenny time distortion, cheeky, static 40/100
Britpop and indie rock built from jangling guitars, punchy drums, and high-energy vocals feels like being stuck in a loud arcade where a group of excited teenagers is having the time of their lives while you’re mostly waiting for the noise to stop—bright, fast, and initially attention-grabbing, but for me quickly wearing thin. The album commits fully to its youthful momentum, yet that same energy becomes repetitive and emotionally flat when it doesn’t land.
Not bad, but not to my liking

Maybe I should coco but it was only so so
Aggravating.
pretty meh
It was cool! one track really stood out for me but i dont think i'll be going back to this album much
Caught by the Fuzz Mansize Rooster Alright
Standard Britpop not very challenging but not offensive to listen to.
**An ok album
hmm 2
🎧I find this music somewhat annoying
alright
The second half of the album is better, but only one song stands out
its' ok, a few bops. The famous song "Alright" is quite different than most of the album.
Por una canción tampoco me parece uno de los mejores discos de la historia no?
Airtight method to be featured in the 1001 albums: be a crappy irrelevant Brit Pop band. I have always hated that band, but I have to admit, it's actually not that bad. The music is a lot faster and louder than I remembered, and it has a youthful irreverence that's quite charming ... more Punk / Power Pop than Brit Pop. if it only weren't for the annoying voice of the singer ...
I am not familiar with this band. The record is not horrible, but it's rather dull and boring.
Why do Brits feel the need to include a weird vaguely pedophillic song on every album. Makes you raise an eyebrow. Anyway music is good and grungy but We’re Not Supposed To kinda makes you think about the whole album different.
4/10
Not as original as I'd hoped
If you don't mind peevish, immature little cockney wankers being total cock wobbles, the music is good.
not my vibe rn
no. we have britpop at home.
Simple, energetic, youthful. I only knew Alright from Clueless. Think I might be too old to enjoy this.
Kinks for 90s kids
Perfectly good for what it is. I was only really familiar with the singles, but they were a competent and raucous trio. I doubt I’d revisit it, and it is hardly essential listening in my opinion, but it wasn’t too bad.
It wasn't my ideal album when it comes to rock. It had some complexity in the latter half of the album in terms of the instrumentals that combine with the emotion. But at the end of the day, the album was not what I would choose to listen too.
This was meh.
I thought the first 3 tracks were the same song, given how similar they were. Then came “Alright”, which is an absolute tune and at least offered something different than the first 10mins or so. The rest went back to being boring.
Yet another bland brit pop album on here. Giving it +1 star in that it's slightly different than the rest, but I can only take so many oasis wannabes
Does not hurt background. Ample uses to employ this album for scenery. It’s fine to have ever heard it tho
I don't think I want to Coco. This album is not bad, but there's not much to like about it either. Just kind of ok. Mansize Rooster and Strange Ones were the highlights. Best song: Strange Ones
vibe surf rock sur la premiere j'aime bien c'est sympa mais pas transcendant non plus genre j'ai pas ajouté de chanson a ma playlist
Just don't like the genre
This album makes me want to frantically jump around my room !! Fav song is ‘Alright’.
More 90s crap. Seriously the 90s sucked. The best you can say about this album is it doesn’t make you mad or annoyed, it just doesn’t make you feel anything, which is about as good as 90s music gets.
It's funny seeing an album and a band and have never heard of either, and then listening to it and realizing you recognize vaguely some of the songs. My distaste for Britpop only continues and I think it'll become active dislike over the court of this project. A few decent tracks like Alright, but not something I'd really be interested in listening to again. Mostly same drums and guitar, and only okay vocals.
хайп
It's a youthful album, but I am not sure that I ultimately enjoyed it. Not my type of music
Highlights: Alright, Lose It, Time A goofy effort that was neither all that funny nor memorable. It was just ok. The style is messy and loud which kinda even annoyed me at certain points (for example on Strange Ones). Not a lot of highlights, but the rest isn't all that bad - it was just extremely meh. Overall I'm not revising this and I don't think I'll stick to anything other than Alright.
Idk kinda boring, fast music without any focus. Maybe it was cool back then.
I think if I gave it more listens I’d enjoy more
Ya. I'm going to have to hard pass on this one. Like Green Day, Cage the Elephant, and so many bands that sound like this, there is the occasional catchy tune but overall this project reinforces that I am just not a fan of this genre of music. Repetitive, noisy, in your face. It might have felt rebellious in the 1970s but by mid 90s was played. 2/5
The first three songs were pretty good and I knew their biggest hit. What I don’t know is why I should listen to the whole album. It’s not that relevant.
Best Song: Alright This is one of those albums that is easily described as derivative, dull, and passionless. It's almost like if a moment in time was used when punk became grunge and then grunge became poppy punk. I always thought it was Seven Mary Three and even Silverchair but this really truly embodies it. 2/5.
Eh
I can see why someone would like this but it just isn’t enough of anything for me.
2,4/5
I'm sure it was exciting when it came out. They're super talented and clearly listen to great bands. But it sounds like, at this point, they were just chasing sounds instead of making music. Most of it is drenched in the superficiality of punk. But punk isn't a sound; it's an attitude, an approach to music that eschews technical talent and insists on authenticity. Most of this album sounds like technically gifted (prodigious given their ages) musicians carefully aping their idols - which makes it decidedly unpunk. It's more Toy Dolls or Weezer than Buzzcocks. Alright is different - it's a great SONG that hints at what these guys are capable of. And when they begin exploring psychedelia towards the end of the album it gets interesting. But for my money, Supergrass didn't completely figure out what they were supposed to sound like until Life On Other Planets. That's the album that everyone should hear before they die.
Messy, british punk! I can clearly hear The Rolling Stones, The Strokes and even some Beatles in their songs. Alright is one of those songs that everyone knows but nobody knows who sings it or where they heard it. Many songs sound like they belong in a movie about reckless teens. Favorite so far is Caught by the Fuzz. Not an album I could listen to all day though, as all the songs sound the same and it can be a bit overstimulating.
We're Not Supposed To is now in my top ten list of the most annoying fuckin songs I have heard.
Meh. So very meh. I was surprised to hear a radio play song on here because it was so so very boring. 2.5/5
Nie dla mnie, trochę takie nijakie, nie wiem jak to opisać. 2/5
Loud 90s rock album with some decent tunes. Nothing stands out on the first listen, but it’s fine overall. 2.5/5.0
Good first half, poor second (opposite of Leeds last night). Only Alright.
Listened to it twice, and I still just did not like it (and I got fed up with it at exactly the same point in the album both times: the harmonica entrance). Every second I just wanted to be listening to other bands this sounded like (and got really annoyed that I wasn't). Did not get a sense that this band knows who they are.
This sounds like a Britpop band in 1995. Kinda like they mashed T-Rex and the Kinks with some punk influences (Buzzcocks?) into the Britpop mold. Youthful exuberance indeed. I _should_ like this, given that I was generally into UK bands in the 90s (mind you more 'arty' bands like Slowdive, Belle and Sebastian, and such). I missed this one, which is perhaps why it isn't clicking with me. No nostalgia to attach to it.
I only listened to part of this; it was not really my thing. 90s alternative, but the few songs I listened to all seemed the same to me.
It’s fine. I don’t feel you need to listen to this in full prior to leaving this earthly plane.
This album is definitely of it’s time. It fits well in 1995. It’s not my jam though. Do I hate it? Not at all, it just doesn’t move me. The single, “Alright,” is great, though!
This album sounds like all of the 90’s bands playing at the same time.
When even these mid-tier Brit poppers are something I should hear before I die, then maybe I need to reassess my relationship to my mortality. I mean, poppy, energetic, old Who and Kinks derivatives, but even the big hit--which was so ubiquitous in 1995(ish?)--is pretty weak sauce.
Never really got into Supergrass as at that time the musical land they sought to conquer was squarely in the hands of Oasis, Blur, Suede and Stereophonic’s. So as far as I was concerned there was little or no room for a band who essentially sounded the same to make an impression. So I largely ignored them. Nothing I hear on this album makes me believe that I missed out. A band of the time but overshadowed by numerous other bands who were a lot better. 2/5 19/1/26
High energy student indie pop, which has its moments but like the Arctic Monkeys, not really something I'd seek out or even dance to in a club or wherever.
The one hit makes sense
Driving rhythms are boppy but this album really leans on "Alright"--would give it a 1 without it probably, though I appreciate that a lot of the album's fusions were I assume way ahead of its time.
Alright is a great tune and a couple others are nice to hum along to - but if I was at a gig where they played this I'd be desperate for them to just get to Alright.
This was so boring. It felt like once I heard both songs I’d heard them all. I got halfway through the album and just skimmed through the rest.
Sounds a lot like the Buzzcocks! But they're doing something similar 20 years later, so I'd file this as "footnote of 90s britpop" and move on. Also, "Alright" is annoying. There, I said it.
It was fine? Perfectly serviceable. Honestly, I had it on and didn't really notice it, so it didn't really stand out at all
Needs more guitar solos. Time’s the only one that had me slightly bopping my head.
Too punky
I always confuse supergrass with supertramp. The way they sold Alright to every commercial and show on tee vee means I could stand to never hear it again. I love britpop and there’s lots to like here but they were outshined by all the other britpop stars in the sky
Mid
I thought u had never heard of this group until I heard Alright. I had always thought that was a song from the 60’s. There are some ok songs but absolutely nothing to write home about.
What a silly fun goofy time that was also mildly overstimulating
There were a couple of good songs on this album but most of it was just noisy punk.
2 out of 5 These are the "we are young" guys. Mid-90s commercial punk very similar to Green Day. Felt kind of repetitive.
Kinda funny and jangly. Fake 80s style in the 90s?
another forgettable british band
Really unclear what distinguishes this from anything at all. The vocals, guitar sound & style, general tempo, all feel like dime-a-dozen edgy-punk-pop.
Ja opzich leuk, had dit op jongere leeftijd lejker gevondem. Artwork is verschrikkelikk
They definitely should have coco'd harder.
An eclectic throwback of styles.
I really don't like this.
Gets a bit more interest on the later half. Still find Alright to be repetitive and annoying
it was an okay album. nothing too special about it. type of songs i'd listen to on a car drive. not too good not too bad.
Inte min grej, ville mest komma igenom det o inget högg tag i mig.
J'ai toujours trouvé Supergrass assez moyen.
I know the band but it has not been my thing. Did listen to it. Still not my thing.
eh
not my style
uninteresting brit rock
BritBros
Meh
Alright is a good single, but the rest odd kinda standard mid-tempo rock
Not for me. I realise it’s supposed to be like that, but there’s just too much cacophony, noise, chaos. I can’t listen to it without getting really tired and overstimulated. Maybe on another day but so far I don’t feel like coming back to this one (2 stars because I liked two songs)
way too goddamn loud and not enough variety
This wasn't for me although I do still love the song from Clueless
Best song: Last song. Not the fave album
Generally not a huge Britpop fan but was surprised to recognize a song "Alright". Sometimes I was annoyed through this and sometimes it was ok...
Didn't do a lot for me at all. Feel like I've heard it before it the sense a lot of artists followed this brit pop template but didn't offer enough to be compelling
Grunge meets punk pop.
I’d never heard of this band and album… until I got to Alright. Wow. Pretty iconic and popular song. I like it though, it’s good. Strange Ones, Time and Time To Go are pretty good. 2
Not too shabby
Classic UK punk album. Pretty good for what they were trying to go for. Their song "We're Not Supposed To" is pretty creepy and unhinged though. 4/10
Alright lukter Fifa.
Too Brittpoppy for me
Kitschy, forgettable. Don't understand what qualifies this as "standout" enough to prove meaningful to music history. Please enlighten me.
I had not listened to this album in more than 20 years. I didn’t care much for it then and after listening again, nothing has changed. It sounds outdated and old fashioned now. It simply does not hold up 30 years later. Personally, I would not call Supergrass a Britpop band. They were just a rock band who happened to be around during the Britpop era. It’s like calling REM a grunge band, just because they were contemporaries of Screaming Trees and Nirvana. It’s not accurate. In fact, this album is an insult to the memory of Britpop. The singer overdoes the British accent to such a comic degree that the System Of A Down shouter would tell him to cool it with the exaggerations. His voice really is annoying. Musically, there is some good stuff here, but it’s mostly undone by the histrionic chaos of the record. “Alright” is one of the most irritating songs ever recorded, “Caught By The Fuzz” is a bad rip off of late 70s punk, “We’re Not Supposed To” literally made me say out loud “What the f*ck is this?” and “Time” is so boring that even Dave Matthews would reject it. The only bright spot on this album is “Lenny”. People will give this a 5/5 review just because of the nostalgia, but it’s not a good record. At least I know that I was right all those years ago.
I hate Brit-pop. That has become more and more evident the more I work through this project. All of the songs sound the same in a bad way. Nothing interesting, kind of whiny.
Té alguns temes bons però és un disc que no tornaria a escoltar.
A few days later and I barely remember this. The only thing I remember is being annoyed by yet another Brit Pop album.
They are okay.
Average at best.
Alright is a great song. Rest is meh
I'm begging this website to stop giving me shitty British alt-rock music 🙏. This album was not the worst British alt-rock album this website has given to me so far, but it wasn't good. 2/5 Favorite song: "Alright" Least favorite song: "Caught by the Fuzz"
Honestly thought this album was pretty obnoxious but respect to em.
Songs vary wildly in quality. Some are mastered well and have a good melody, some very much do not. Instrument choices are sometimes odd and can ruin a song.
Britpop is SO overrepresented on this list.
It's fine, it's of the era, it's well done, it's got some sick punk progressions but it's like a two for me. I should have rated Janis Joplin lower haha.
I’m in love with the Coco. HIT MY PLUG that’s my cholo. The 2015 song by uhh whoever that person may be springs to my mind for the second time this week. Awoken like a long dormant giant, the second most popular song about being in love with drugs of 2015 lives in my mind like a squatter. There couldn’t be a dumber song. It’s the champ. This album cover upsets me, and I doubt this will be good. They got the guy who does caricatures down at the pier some acid, he drew up the cover and now we have to endure what lies beneath. Do I dare peek? I’d Like to Know - Where the Arctic Monkeys were unsure, Supergrass is certain. They’re pretty British aren’t they? Good start. Caught by the Fuzz - Ehh this is fine. Skateboard video game soundtrack music. That would’ve been my favourite genre 20 years ago. Mansize Rooster - Dinosaur. Song about dinosaurs. Presumably. Alright - Noooo. This is the big hit and it’s the worst song so far. Lose it - Excellent track. The bass is really strong on this record, and I like the effects on the vocals for this track. What a boring review. Lenny - NOT LENNY!!! Strange Ones - I am getting so distracted during this. Why? I guess it’s kind of boring. Sitting Up Straight - Some nice melodic moments in this track but overall more of the same. She’s So Loose - Excuse me? We’re Not Supposed To - Alright, British minions passages. Time - Not the Pink Floyd song from what I can tell. Holy hell this song sucks. Sofa of my Lethargy - Everybody like couches. Don’t call it a sofa though. That feels American. It’s a couch. Perhaps a chesterfield. Is that a couch. Who cares. I’m bored, this review is providing nothing. Let’s wrap it up fellas. I really hate this Happy Gilmore outro music. Time to Go - Yes, yes it is. Too long. The energy died about halfway through and I had to revisit tracks after I realized a few had passed without thought. Is that my fault? Probably partially, but it also doesn’t happen all the time. I hated the last few tracks and I don’t care for this album all that much. It was fine. There were strong spots, but overall, a forgettable entry into the musical canon that will escape me the second I leave this tab. Unlike that Coco song. I’ll be thinking about that one when my mind is slipping in my later years. 2.5 HIGHLIGHTS: Caught by the Fuzz, Lose It
Eso es para puertos mongolicos. Lo siento, por aquí no es.
Smells like another bland 90s britpop act with a slight nirvana flair. It's fine but doesn't do anything special to standout
Quite annoyed me in the end unfortunately. I did go in with biases thinking I was getting some luke warm chirpy brit pop/indie stuff. I was delighted at first when it sounded like a buzzcocks record for a few tracks. The second half of the record really grates on me every time though. I feel like it does turn into that too-cool indie pop sound and I really struggle with it. Maybe on another day?
Alright was huge. Not a fan of the rest of the album. Dont think this is a album to listen to before you die. Blur and Oasis have you covered. 2/5.
It’s intense, energetic, and just fun -- but nothing really stands out as especially memorable to me. That's okay, and I appreciate knowing more about the era.
Pretty basic
Besides the obvious hit Alright i really liked only one more song: She's so loose.
Special, unique band...
Another band of which I was completely unaware. It was an easy listen, but not something for which I see a need to add to my collection, sorry.
Potato. Croquette. It was alright. There was a surprising amount of variation in the second half of the album but it didn’t necessarily make it any more interesting. For me it was sufficiently boring to fall below a 3. The only real highlight was “Alright” as it’s a song I heard tons of times growing up but didn’t actually know who performed it or even what it was called.
My first reaction to the album is that the mix is quite murky. There is poor instrument separation and a lack of clarity on the vocals which are not as forward in the mix as you would expect. An amorphous wall of noise is not my favoured production style. That being said, there is a rawness to the sound that is reminiscent of grubby live venues in small towns which I quite enjoy. The album isn't bad, but it swiftly faded into a background buzz of nineties noise that I was pretty bored with by the end. I think if you want mid nineties britpop/rock there are plenty of better alternatives, so I would question why this should be a bucket list album.
It was ok. Nothing special.
Yeah, this is a good 90s brit pop album. Lots of energy, great catchy songwriting, well-produced. parts of some songs are interesting. There's enough 90s brit pop on this list. I did not need to hear this before I die. I have enough 90s brit pop in my regular rotation too so this won't even make it to my liked songs.
Blah, just does nothing for me.
Like the energy. I find the vocal style to be kind of exhausting.
recognized “all right”. I just really dislike this style of music. 4.5/10
Meh, not really my cup of tea...sounds too "Pop" like
There was some fun things on this album but overall a 2 for me and not too memorable.
no me gusta aunq no le he terminado. alguna mujerv
Definitely felt the country vibe of the music, saved one song, some felt quite rocky, liked it overall, but not sure whether I will return to it just like this.
I like it, another 4 star album for the books.
Mid. Always jarring to hear a big radio hit smashed between songs you’ve never heard of.
Mostly weird not catchy songs. Guitar was good on several songs, vocals not my favorite. Felt older than a 1995 album. Would have guessed 70s. Recognized on song, "Alright". Its a decent song.
Yeah, I definitely had a different ‘90s experience than the mopes who got this album in their six-CD Columbia House starter kit.
I knew Alright already. Although not other songs jumped out at me, the album was overall fine. I liked the instruments more than anything else.
Turns out I only know one Supergrass song - even though they are so familiar sounding. Glad I didn’t go to see them at Glastonbury and just wait for them to play Alright! Fave song Time - love the blues bass
the song from clueless (on which the chopsticks piano riff and lounge guitar let the vocal cheese work). goes right through me. no ebb and flow. unearned expenditure of energy. makes me feel like the face on the left. like i know this was intended to be fun and rocking, yet i just ended up constipated. or maybe like the face on the right, exhausted and baggy-eyed from a night of torrential diarrhea. can't decide which. and the more i look at this album art, the more it annoys me. also, weirdly sequenced. they change it up a bit with the last three, but it's too little too late. by then i don't believe them.
A britpop DJ friend recommended this to me as she knew I was an indie rock fan with punk roots. The thinking was, I imagine, lots of hooks, even more energy, not afraid to rock the fuck out, still British. But hoo boy, even when I was 21, this was a bit of a tough sell, just too much of a sugar rush.
New to me, not my favorite, not horrible either.
Punk. Not my jam
I thought Time to Go was obnoxious… Alright is a classic though but a classic I don’t much care for.
The song Alright brought back Donkey Konga memories but the album was forgettable for me.
4/10
Felt oddly unengaged with this one. Had trouble interfacing with it. It's good enough I suppose. Probably just was not in a space for it.
No Timmy, we have Oasis at home.
It’s ok I guess. Doesn’t jump out at me. Alright is a catchy single.
Alright is a good song, and the only one I was familiar with prior to listening. The rest of the album kind of blended together, and I didn’t find it remarkable
Moyen
Good start, meh end
This is Alright and not much else.
Not bad, but not you must hear this before you die quality either. More meh Brit Rock from the 1990s.
Very Britpop, lot of filler between some good songs. Of it's time
Not for me
The cover art excited me, but the sound of the music stabbed me in the back.
Most of the Britpop era was bands putting out one or two decent singles and otherwise being entirely missable. This is a good example.
So so
Eh not for me but I could see why some folks like it
Never been that into supergrass or listened to their back catalogue, after hearing this I can tell why. It’s not really for me. I do understand why this album is here!
Oh that's the band that makes that one song.
This album isn't groundbreaking in any way - it's fairly easy to draw direct lines from this record back to The Kinks and The Jam, two obvious forebears. In addition, the singer's voice isn't particularly distinctive and the arrangements don't vary much from song to song, so sonically nothing really stands out. There are a few decent songs scattered throughout ("Caught By The Fuzz", "Strange Ones", "Time") but overall the record suffers from being too much of being an imitation of other, better bands.
It was alright.
..
There were some decent songs but quite inconsistent. Some I enjoyed but most didnt do anything for me
I don’t why I avoided listening to this for so long because I don’t really know much Supergrass. Not as bad as I expected but not really into the mix or the vocals.
2.5
I'd like to know where all the strange ones go 🗣️🗣️
The hit single is great but the album is not my favorite
Song:alright this song is good I have heard of it before and this actually gives me happy vibes but I don't know if it is actually happy or sad lyrics because I only can hear some words because in my opinion he is going a little to fast Song: caught by the fuzz this song is okay but not my favorite this is like a song my brother skips because he does not like it and this song is very bad(the lyrics) Song: sofa this song is good it gives me happy vibes a little bit i kind of like it and again I do not know if the lyrics is happy or sad and again in my opinion I can not hear the lyrics that good
I like this song because the start is good. I would recommend this song. I don't like this song because he does not sing that well. I would not recommend this song. I don't like this song because it's kinda unhappy. I would not recommend this song
This process is making me listen to far too many mediocre Britpop albums. In my lenient phase I might have given this a 3 for Caught By The Fuzz and the video for Alright but really I would have been ignoring the blandness of the rest of it.
I'm tired
never ever heard of this and it was ok not my cuppa
Hørte tre låter. Ikke for meg.
Found this generally unremarkable.
Ich müsste das eigentlich mehr mögen als ich wirklich tue. Das letzte Drittel sind eher drei Sterne, aber die ersten zwei Drittel waren etwas anstrengend
