Reviews (page 10 of 12)

This was fun but turned into a chore quickly. I found the background got repetitive and Elvis's vocal flourishes got absurd after a while. I think the phenomenon of Elvis was about more than just the music.

"Suspicious minds" und "In the ghetto" sind killer. Der Rest ist aber eher langweilig.

Very country based.

Estuvo ok, pero lo mejor es Suspicious Minds. Qué temazo.

ikkje da besta av elvis

Standard Elvis - nothing suprising or diferent to expectations. If this is live, as it claims to be, then the man could sing - but that isn't really news to anyone. Not being a fan this left me unmoved, but respectful.

Elvis’ voice is undeniable, as is his historical importance. I don’t know if it’s just me or the wrong moment, but I didn’t feel any particular emotional highs (except for In the Ghetto).

It was a bit too slow for my liking but there were a few songs that stood out to me and I enjoyed

Better than expected, some easy listening.

Ehh it's fine. Got a kinda smooth quality that I don't like. But still it's Elvis so it isn't bad, but it doesn't impress me. 3.5/5

Elvis live was good but I prefer his more upbeat tunes.

I like Elvis, just seems like a pretty tight concert to me. Didn't do much more for me than that. Favorite tracks: "I'll Hold You In My Heart", "Any Day Now"

I can't get past the fact that I think of Elvis as just... always sounding dated to me. Although the Mrs. doesn't hear it, and maybe that's just her hearing it all the time when she was growing up. But the album does have some of Elvis' strongest material ("Suspicious Minds" is probably my favorite of his pieces), and the cringiest (ugh, "In The Ghetto" just does NOT hold up well today.). Gentle On My Mind... I am familiar with the song, because I remember hearing a joke in a comic once, which always stuck with me. It was only today that I realize they were making fun of this song. "It's knowing that your door is always open and your furniture is gone..." which struck me as comical. Maybe it's just with the back-up singers, and how they're used, it just all sounds like something my Dad was interested in. But I've felt that way with all the Elvis albums we've heard. So... yeah.

This is an OK album, and I dont even really like Elvis! In the Ghetto and suspicious minds are both amazing songs, and all the tracks are good (even if you dont like country music like me). 3/5

I enjoyed a good portion of the songs, but many still fell flat and I lost interest in them quickly. After 16 songs without a theme or common thread that the album is pushing, it gets a little tedious to keep listening. Still not bad by any means though. 6/10

I know he make a career by stealing from black artists, and I won’t go into the grooming, but damn, he was able to translate emotion through songs really well. Long Black Limousine, After Lovin You, and Suspicious Minds were my favorites from the album. Kinda found it disturbing he had created a fantasy in which his wife was newly dead and his kids just wanted to help him find a new mommy (Don’t Cry Daddy) and a serial cheater demanding obedience from his woman (Wearin That Loved On Look) left a bad taste in my mouth.

this has everything to do with us, daddy

This music reminds me of my dad, in a good way. Various Elvis songs played in the background through my childhood and it was always nice, easy listening music. This is no different. However, I don't think music like this will ever be a consistent part of my listening rotation.

Good timing, what with the Elvis biopic out in cinemas. In The Ghetto always gets me.

in the ghettoooo

This was actually pretty decent

Seems like Elvis’ leftover mid hit album. Suspicious minds is my top pick for the album. Slow and romantic for the easy hearts

4/5 music quality. As a country album. 2/5 in principle why tf is Elvis singing about the ghetto? so 3/5

A lovely live Elvis album. The mix is a little drum heavy in places, but it's fun nonetheless.

I really like Elvis, though this is far from my favourite album. The 1998 version of this album has Suspicious Minds, which is a great song, but I'm not sure whether to account for that, so I won't

Don’t mind Elvis but nothing really jumped off the page for me except for In The Ghetto. But that just reminded me of Eric Cartland’s version from South Park. I did listen to Suspicious Minds because it’s great but doesn’t count to the score.

Makes me nostalgic for a time I wasn’t alive for, hah. Great to listen to while working but no song really stuck out.

I dunno man, Elvis just doesn't do it for me; I think his voice and style is just too much of a cliche by now. It's not bad; I enjoyed many of the songs to some extent, but it just sounds too generic.

Okay. Elvis has never been my jam.

Pretty good for stealing music from black musicians.

Nie jestem fanem elvisa, nie znałem tych utworów i jakoś szczególnie mi nie podeszły. Coś tam śpiewał i grał na gitarce, ale takie spłaszczone troche się wydawało.

I really enjoyed this but I am disappointed it didn't sound like it was live at all! It would have been nice to sense that atmosphere more. This was a more ballady album I sensed, which I liked - but I would have liked some more upbeat ones

Elvis is a weird one for me. He obviously has some bangers but I find it hard to listen to him without getting some boring ballady song. For the king of Rock and Roll there isn't enough Rock. But this album was pretty good.

Suspicious Minds is my favourite Elvis song, and In the Ghetto is decent, but the rest are mostly songs my nan liked

With a large backing band that includes horns and a choir of harmony vocals, Elvis runs through some so-so material. It's not bad but the problem for me is this is this is the start of the Vegas period beloved of Elvis impersonators. I really like Elvis but his earlier material (especially his vocals) are so much sweeter, grittier and basically better than anything here.

Enjoyed listening to a bit of Elvis. There are some slow crooner tracks littered throughout the album, which always seemed to be followed by an upbeat track, redeeming itself. Overall, a good variety.

Its elvis, I'm not sure why this is better or worse than any other elvis...it fine

Not the greatest collection of Elvis tracks but a reasonable live album

This seems really produced for a "Live" album.

Wack Elvis is nice but idk

Not horrible, usually not into 'live' recordings but this one wasn't awful

Elvis just kind of exists in a "of course he's good, but it's not my kind of music" place for me along with people like Frank Sinatra and Buddy Holly. That being said, this was pleasant and enjoyable. There were some weaker songs, but the highs were pretty high.

He's got some country lyrics here, and the style has totally changed up to ballads from his older rockabilly. S'ok.

Some cool songs, nice to listen to some of Elvis' less popular works

Elvis. Yeah

Hasn’t aged that well

I generally enjoyed this album, I don't know if I'd ever listen to 40+ minutes of Elvis in a row again but I understand why so many adore him - he's a crooner with simple blues sounds. I can't listen to In the Ghetto without thinking of New Girl so that's always a plus.

I liked it more than I thought I would.

Solid Elvis effort .

Entiendo todo pero festejé cuando terminó.

It’s Elvis, it’s ok. In the Ghetto and Suspicious Minds are great tracks, the rest are just usual Elvis stuff

Элвис как Элвис я не ценитель

The king is back. A bit more soft and souly than the previous rock-and-roll, and he sounds more mature. Not a bit listen, but I am not terribly excited. Long Black Limousine and Suspicious Minds are standout, maybe because they are the most complex songs (some are more classic country songs that are relatively boring)

Really enjoyed listening to some songs that Ive never heard of before, seems to be going back to his roots. Reminds me of listening to Elvis with my father, great memories.

Suspicious Minds and In The Ghetto...... class tunes

My first Elvis album experience. Not bad by any stretch, and I can see why people are such huge fans. I would've liked to listen to this with my Dad ❤

Not an Elvis fan at all. Pleasantly surprised how listenable this was.

The standards are good, but there's a lot of boring county Elvis shit on here.

Meh. I’ve never really been a huge fan of Elvis.

Listened before? N ELVIS! Late Elvis, that is, but still Elvis! Pros: well, it’s Elvis. He’s got a great voice and a good selection of songs. I enjoyed this one. Cons: it’s late Elvis so his voice was starting to go a little bit. Also, a lot of slower songs on this one when I’d prefer Elvis to be peppier. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Long Black Limousine, I'm Movin' On

A really decent effort by Elvis in his late stages of life. Two massive hits, with "Suspicious Minds" being a favorite of mine. Lots of decent songs. But also lots of mediocre songs. There's usually some hook that gets me to appreciate the song, but I'm not sure I'd exactly call it good. For example, the dramatic repeated chorus in "Long Black Limousine" sounds so great with the horns and harmonious vocals, but there wasn't much else to the song besides that made it stood out, maybe the piano was cool. Songs do get better starting with "True Love Travels on a Gravel Road." Sweet and soulful, with mature introspective lyrics, and diversity in style and energy. Probably his most coherent effort, and the least filler, but even these non-filler attempts didn't satisfy me.

It's a bit too long. Definitely not bad, but I wasn't the biggest fan of this one. Pretty good music to listen to while doing the dishes, though.

Like nearly every Elvis album, there are 14 tracks of awful dreck. Then there is In the Ghetto, and Suspicious Minds, two pop songs of such excellence that you forget the rest of what you had suffered through. Honestly, those two songs deserve a six out of five. The rest of it is solid ones and twos, in both the rating and digestive sense. Honestly, Elvis recorded maybe four perfect albums. The problem is, he hid them over about 40 bloody albums.

Decent album that has some of his hits and is filled with other songs that aren’t as well known. Doesn’t seem like there’s a real style or theme in this album. 6.0/10

Elvis was a badass

171121 12:36 3.5

I understand how he is was so popular in his time, but the overdone crooning doesn't really do anything for me now.

A but more country than I was expecting, but in the ghetto and suspicious minds are bangers

It's superb Elvis in his later period. Not essential, but a great reason why he remains so popular. Some good soul pop crooning songs. Excellent band.

Bon mais rien de trop fou. Ça reste le son auquel on est habitué de Elvis

Granny really liked Elvis, so this album made me think of her. He is just okay in my mind but there are good memories

The Delta-Blues influences are front and center for most of this album, allowing Elvis to show off his guitar and vocal chops. The back half sags into kitsch balladry a bit, but the overall product still makes for a good listen.

not a huge elvis fan

Expected more from this album - I think the songs let it down as the production is great.

Bare mega hyggeligt. Kærlighedsslasker.

Ren fløde, kærlighed, pop, simpelt, 60’er

3/5 why can't i get Elvis? :(

This is fun enough background music. It's pretty inoffensive by 2021 standards, and there are a lot of ballads on it, but I still enjoyed it. Elvis is well before my time, but I can't deny his talent. 3.5/5.

Some good songs and one great one. Suspicious minds, is actually incredible!!

I need to be in a specific place of mind to really enjoy this but it's not bad.

This is the second album from Elvis Presley for me to review on this list. "In the Ghetto" was the only song on this album that I know that I've heard before, and is a good example of how I feel about this album. The music is fine, but "In the Ghetto" has enough warble and melodrama in it, that I get stuck thinking about charicatures of Elvis rather than the music. I've had too much exposure to bad Elvis. This album has too much melodrama for me. "I'm Movin' On" is a good track, and has a similar groove as "A Little Less Conversation". Rounding up, I give this album a full "meh".

Yeah it was alright

of course this would be the kind of album that you'd find on a list where you're like "hey Elvis is pretty important, he should be on here" and you find the one with Suspicious Minds and you're done. the real problem here is that this album came out at a time where people, art, and music were becoming rebellious. but it's okay moms and dads, Big Guy is still here, he can still sing, for now, and he's got 12 completely inoffensive songs for you. at a point I blanked out and had an emotional whirlwind where I realized how good the backing band is, which quickly wore off when all they played were the same "bum-baa" blues chords and sounded like the guys at a live band karaoke place. pretty generous 3 here. I don't know why I'm giving it a 3. It should be a 2 but I just can't

My mum loves Elvis so always have a soft spot. Starts with some upbeat blues numbers, then a very-elvis soul crooney slow tune 'I'll hold you in my heart'. Blues, gospel, soul & rock n roll, country. Suspicious Minds is on this - what a tune (this is on the spotify album but just read it wasn't on the original). Not an album chocoblock full of hits, but still not loads of filler. Much prefer the upbeat tracks. If Suspicious Minds was actually part of the original release I'd give this a 4.

This is decent level Elvis… about as Elvis as I’ll go!

Was expecting this to be bad. But it's actually pretty good. I'm kind of a sucker for this style though, heavy on the organ, lots of soul. You can tell his backing band is pretty fantastic and lays down some nice grove. His voice is fine. A few cheesy moments towards the end.

Nice songs on it, love the rendition of "In the Ghetto", but overall a bit too old school for me

Disappointed that I didn't enjoy this more. Can't deny Elvis, of course. Just wasn't feelin it

I kept thinking, "yep this is Elvis. I wonder if he wrote any of this?"

"Elvis, was a hero to most, Elvis was a hero to most, Elvis was a hero to most, But he never meant shit to me straight up racist, the sucker was simple and plain —Fuck him AND John Wayne!" The above taken from Public Enemy's Fight the Power from Fear of a Black Planet's 1990 release. Recently, I read an interview with Quincy Jones and he alluded to Elvis as a racist and even stumbled on an unsubstantiated quote from Elvis that he remarked "The only thing a Black woman can do for me is buy my records and shine my shoes." [whaaa...?] My first instinct is to say that haven't had any exposure to Elvis... except that I have. Elvis is pop culture Americana and there are references to him everywhere. I've heard the song, Suspicious Minds countless times, never attributed it to Elvis and (surprise) It's a great song, wonderful even, the horns, choir and the evocative feeling of it. Also, when people used to watch TV together, this Southpark episode (https://youtu.be/5SYwLZ-riqg) elicited laughs from others, but I didn’t fully get the reference until (surprise) I listened to this album. This is a decent album and I liked it just fine. But reviewing an Elvis album and knowing the things that have been said about him compounded by it being the 100th anniversary of the Tulsa Race Massacre, which I NEVER learned about, and is NOT in any pop culture, gives me hesitation. Is it okay to like something and separate it from the artist? Is the artist the art? And if so, is it okay to enjoy something that it prevents you from enjoying the art? It’s an important question to consider and perhaps there is no correct answer. I'll finish with this... I often think about a scene from a Curb Your Enthusiasm that illustrates this perfectly. Larry, who has, over the course of the previous 11 episodes, enjoyed the company and fallen for a woman he’s been working with. Then this happens...(https://youtu.be/5SYwLZ-riqg). Did you catch Jeff's (NSFW) reaction at the end? –––– Yes. ^This may be a BS review, but since you’ve made it this far. You should know the song 'Suspicious Minds' now has another home on one of my ‘favorites’ playlist.

An 8-track best-seller. Not bad.

Classic Elvis.

If you don't *really* know Elvis' music - this is NOT the rock 'n roll that made him the King. This album was a comeback of sorts, but also largely a departure from the hits that established him as an icon. He returned to his country/gospel/soul roots, with an added symphonic element for this sometimes over-produced, arguably overly-sentimental collection that was a huge hit at the time it was released. I find it rather syrupy and much prefer his early stuff, but it has a decided nostalgia for me, too, remembering family trips in the station wagon, listening to him on 8-track. While Suspicious Minds is a personal fave, most of the tracks smack of the Vegas Elvis that has become somewhat of a joke in later years. Still, his voice is powerful, with a style all it's own, and he pours emotion (sometimes too much?) into each and every song. His band, The Memphis Boys, are as solid as can be - tight when they need to be, loose & flowy when it serves the song. They accompany the King expertly, never stealing his thunder but never letting him down.

Not my favorite type of music but enjoyed some of the songs and definitely a worthwhile listen

Pretty good as background music but not something special or catchy enough to save

Couple of stone cold classics in In The Ghetto and Suspicious Minds. Also really enjoyed Kentucky Rain, Elvis one of the all time musical legends.

Um álbum calmo e agradável, achei interessantes as coisas que Elvis disse no álbum, no futuro seria bom ouvir este álbum com as letras para compreender a mensagem na sua totalidade. Nota:6/10

Finishes strongly, last grip of songs really good, most notably in the ghetto and suspicious minds. Up to that point however it’s mostly forgettable, the songs all too similar with few highlights

Hard to dislike - song great songs and some very average

Very decent - would listen again.

Other than for a few songs of him, I've never realy liked Elvis' music or his persona. And while this is a pretty decent album, if it's his best as some claim, I'd stick with a greatest hits comp

goh ja, het is Elvis. Niet echt een verrassing. Elvish is meer mijn stijl ;)

Uhu-hu

I’ve never been a big Elvis guy. Let’s see how this is. “True love travels on a gravel road” is a decent tune. What was with that fade out and back in on “suspicious minds”? I liked the horn arrangements most of all on this album. “Mama liked the roses” was a nice song.

i've never thought elvis was that great. i also thought this was a live album. it feels good to be wrong. surprisingly listenable in [current year]

You listen to this while you make out with guy that is leaving and you dont know if you are going to see him again.... while its raining

The king is in top form here.

Really enjoyed the first half, had only previously know ‘In the Ghetto’ & ‘Suspicious Minds’ found that it felt a bit samey by the end though.

Pretty good. Not my favorite but not terrible at all.

Elvis has a great backing band on this one. A few songs on this album push my appreciation for sappy music however Elvis makes it palatable

"Baby, if you ever loved me Then Bonnie and Clyde loved the law" (Wearin' that loved on look) Decidme quién le hizo tanto daño a este pobre señor. El disco muy bien pero tengo que ser clara, la versión buena de In The Ghetto es la del Príncipe Gitano.

un clásico, muy bueno pero cada cierto tiempo, si no aburre

I mean... it's Elvis. It's good shit, but you ask me to tell the difference between the album tracks, and I can't help ya bud

Elvis is one of those guys I blow hot and cold about. As a youngster I thought he was impossibly tacky; an Elvis-obsessed housemate at college then opened a door to me; a subsequent visit to Graceland saw the pendulum swing back again to Elvis being crap; until at long last I got a box set of his early recordings, which are luminous. So to this album; there's craft, variety and some good material, but in comparison to his early output, a little stale and workmanlike.

I liked this one a lot more than the last one. Actually liking it was a little bit of a surprise for me. I feel like it had a little bit more to it than the 2 min pop from the last one. A little more full sounding, some soul or some such in there, it was pleasant.

Rock, folk. Suave. Melódico

I like this era Elvis. I like the guitar on “Suspicious Minds.” And I like the guitar on the cover, which I assume Elvis had no real clue how to actually play.

Good. A bit slow for what i wanted today, but solid

IDK, not my style? Pretty similar songs the whole way through

Classic with many genres in one album

Fine. Elvis.

Couple gems rest meh

Not an Elvis fan in the slightest but this has some great songs.

I mean its Elvis.....That's cool I guess but I never got into the Cult of Elvis Personally so It was just meh for me. I mean Elvis is classic and has some hits sure but I think he's overrated! I have the feeling this kind of music hit different back in the day.

A charisma explosion, Memphis style. Some great production and songwriting, but ultimately, it is THAT VOICE that stands out. Power of My Love is sexy as all hell.

You know what? After listening to this record, I actually kind of get why people like the King so much. Outside of the classics and the songs that our neighbor Leon plays across the street, I actually haven't listened to much Elvis and this one was a pleasant surprise. Country/soul at it's best. Such a weird genre.

complicado ne mas teve umas massa

Fine, just classic Elvis vibes. Expected horny, was hornier than expected though

groovy

Soooo cheesy. I like his Rock‘n‘Roll songs better.

2 classics the rest is just elvis songs

Elvis is Elvis is Elvis.

It is indeed an Elvis album

Again, nothing special. Aside from Suspicious Minds (What a tune!) and In The Ghetto, the whole thing ends up being rather middling and unmemorable. Eh....

Elvis's voice is enjoyable for the first 5 minutes and excruciating for the next 45. The backup band cooked though.

I know Elvis is essential, but this felt cheesy.

Just kinda boring? Seemed more country than the last album of his I got, and not in a good way. "Wearin' That Loved On Look" and "Long Black Limousine" were okay, the rest was a solid meh.

Ruined by bad mixing. Stereo mix has every instrument hard-panned to one side or the other with no logic of why. Very disconcerting, and the music is nothing worth getting excited to put up with it. Might be good in a mono mix.

oh, this guy. It's fine, I guess. Weirdly depressing, but fine. Mostly inoffensive, mostly. "In the Ghetto" feels like the only truly good song on this album. The rest are just fine. Mostly.

These songs are ubiquitous from childhood. Not something I necessarily want to seek out or hear. 2/5

He's been dead for decades, so what could he send me from his old stomping grounds?

I’ve never really liked Elvis. Something about his voice is unsettling about me - it sound untrustworthy, like I need to cover my drink if I’m near him. And perhaps that’s not fair, and I only feel that way because many people after Elvis tried to replicate the sound, so *they’re* the phonies. Obviously we wouldn’t have the musical world we have now if it wasn’t for Elvis. This album deserves a spot on this list for sure. But it’s not the music for me. The song that stands out for me is Gentle on my Mind - a song originally by Glen Campbell which I love. And he kind of massacred it, took it from a deep insightful song and made it sound like it belonged on the Vegas Strip. An added point for music influence gets him to 5/10 today.

Not as bad as I thought it would be but I don’t think I’ll ever listen to it again. Sorry elvis

I don't get it, this one was phoned in.

This must be Elvis’s pub singer era. Not his best work

Not much of an Elvis fan.

Not a great Elvis fan, and this didn’t do a lot for me, truth be told,

This was bad. I liked the first one we listened to but this doesn’t do it for me. Still better than Mariah Carey’s bullshit though.

Three elvis albums?????????? Why

how was this guy ever popular

5/18/26. Personally not a big Elvis guy, although there's good songs on this. You can tell it's a well-produced record for the masses, and the songs are as straight forward as they can be. It captures the pop sound of its era.

All the songs sound the same. I didn't mind 'True Love Travels on a Gravel Road'. 'In the Ghetto'...sigh.

Och it was fine I suppose. Elvis was a hero to most but he didn’t mean shit to me.

The album is definitely one that you could put on in the background in mixed company and no one would really complain. Nothing spectacular.

Hate to do it... But this album put me to sleep. This was my first Elvis album and I hope his other work isn't this sleepy...

I wish I could get into this but I just can't, but in the same breath I do not think it is terrible. Songs like In the Ghetto and wearin that loved on look are interesting and a postive example of what makes Elvis a powerful artist but it's just music that I can't get into. Fav tracks: wearin that loved on look, black limousine, and in the ghetto

Was a huge Elvis fan in my early teens. Just in awe of his talent and charisma. But I think as I've grown up I realise that whilst his was a massive talent, it is not one I am drawn to. Two bangers on this album, The rest is meh

Rock, soul, country, blues.

This is a difficult one as i started off really enjoying it and appreciating Elvis’s great vocals, but then i just got a bit bored. Obviously’In the ghetto’ and ‘Suspicious minds’ awoke me briefly from my funk but ‘dont cry daddy’ and ‘Mama liked the roses’ made sure i returned there.

I don’t get the Elvis thing, and never have - and this album has got me no closer to “getting” it. Objectively, “Suspicious Minds” is considered a classic that everyone knows all the words to - so it’s fine, as is “In the Ghetto” (despite me hearing it sung by Cartman in my head). But really, this all just sounds like every other Elvis song ever released. The only other track which stood out for me was “Kentucky Rain”, which I quite liked.

I’m not a big fan of Elvis. I don’t understand the hype. I only knew two songs on this album (In the Ghetto & Suspicious Minds). I think In the Ghetto is a super corny song. I do like Suspicious Minds though. I bought that song after seeing the Elvis movie.

He was a punchline/maybe alive/on a UFO when I was growing up and I never “got” Elvis. This album doesn’t make me get him still. One of the best songs on here is super cringe. A very uneven album for me.

Odd inclusion, I think, for an Elvis record. Ultimately just meh.

Not a ton to say. It's Elvis! This album is alright but probably wouldn't come back to seek it out. EVER SMILIN', EVER GENTLE ON MY MIIIIND

I have never been convinced that Elvis was nothing more than a fossil embedded in the rock revolution of the 1950s who was kept in the spotlight because of his past accomplishments. This album confirms that. He sounds like an Elvis impersonator - the same sexy mumbles, horns, I-IV-V chord structures with the rockabilly bass line, female backup singers on reverb - a caricature of himself singing to tired formulaic templates. And to think the Stooges debuted this same year…

He sounds like a parody of himself. Also, Linda, c'est d'la pâte à dent

Imagine making your comeback at age 34. So much reminiscing and wistful dreaming and really not the same force as young Elvis.

I think I only like Elvis aesthetically... this album is just goofy.

I'm too young for this.

OK I listened to this, I already knew I didn't like the way he sings. I learned that 38 minutes can feel pretty long too.

why are we still not over elvis?

good album, good sound, not really my style, not a big fan of elvis either, just meh, not that bad... can't say it was a waste of time

Boring. I like Elvis but not this one so much.

It amazes me that Elvis is still popular. He's alright, but it's the 21st century... why is he 336th on Spotify? None of the songs stuck out to me.

me decesocioni

Har tyvärr för tråkigt med Elvis, fattar inte grejen. Men finns ju såklart ett par fina höjdpunkter man inte kommer runt här också.

Overall I really don't like albums that are just performance and not original. On top of that, this one is of tired music from a tired musician. It's mostly a monument to the destructive force of the music industry, bleeding one of its earliest superstars dry. Kind of a sad listen.

kinda poopy…

This album is a mixture of blues, country, gospel sounds, and Elvis's soulful voice. This is my first full album exposure to Elvis (the generator seems to enjoy giving me later works by an artist). Elvis always seemed more like a character to me than an artist (just based on what I've seen and heard in mainstream pop culture). Listening to this kind of humanized him for me, however. I can tell that Elvis had presence and appeal, but this kind of music just doesn't resonate with me.

It was fine. Standout songs: Only the strong survive It keeps right on a hurting

Elvis isn’t my type of music at all. But I can still appreciate him and what he did for music. This album was just ok not my cup of tea 5.5/10 2.7/5

Album just does nothing for me. I don't need to hear about your cup of soup, old man! Even the dog ran out of the room listening to this. Suspicious Minds gets a pass. Any Day now had a decent melody too. In the Ghetto is good, too.

Boring to me, but bailed out by Suspicious Minds, which is in StarCraft 2

Hmmm - to me this is just Cheesy Vegas Lounge Singer Elvis. Leaves me cold. In fact it actively makes me want to put something else on…..so worse than cold! 2 - just because Suspicious Minds is pretty decent.

Not my cup of tea.

This was boring. A glimmer of a decent song here and there, but mostly just boring.

Great...Elvis just stealing other (most black) artists songs and using his dumb voice. Look, i'm not the target Elvis audience. The session musicians here are solid - and there are some good vibes- but it gets old pretty fast. The recording of in the ghetto should be buried 6ft in the ground to never be seen again.

Ok....Elvis....I don't know....it just depends on which era I'm listening to. I'm not familiar enough with his timeline to be able to say which period I liked best, aside from just his "earlier" stuff. This croony, sad howling doesn't do it for me. And listening to him sing "In the Ghetto" is just cringey. Nonetheless, it is Elvis, and without him we would have never had the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, among a few others. 2.49 stars.

When long-running artists pop back up in the zeitgeist, it's usually by going back to their roots. Elvis broke through in 1969 with this schmaltz? I guess it makes sense that his audience wanted comfort, not rock 'n' roll, given the tumult of the era, but what a missed opportunity. "Suspicious Minds" finds the right middle ground—I wish there were more songs like that, because it's legit great (and I love "In the Ghetto" even though it's cringe). The rest of this I don't need to hear again, especially eye-rolling sentimentality of "Don't Cry Daddy" and "Mama Liked the Roses."

Not without its charm I suppose. I actually am impressed with the band. They seem really good. This is very surface level though. Gone is the reckless abandon of the early period. It’s replaced with a carefully manufactured product that only implies rock and roll but isn’t the real thing.

I couldn’t get in to this album. It sounds so dated.

Unless it's a fat man in a wig, wearing a sequined onesie and performing in a working man's club, I don't really like Elvis... Heard before ❌️ Listened this time ❌️ I don't have time for this Revisit ❌️ Default ★★☆☆☆ (4/10) Total reviewed : 268 Already owned : 62 Purchased : 15 To buy : 1 Nope : 190

I wasn’t expecting elevator music, but once it was underway, I realized that this ultra-prouduced, super cheesy sound was my childhood impression of Elvis. It doesn’t help that the two best songs weren’t even on the original track listing.

Why does he do that crap with his voice? Makes otherwise decent stuff sound awful.

I never "got" Elvis. By the time I was old enough to pay attention, he had already become the drug-addled "fat Elvis" that later parodies dwelled on. But this album is from he was fit and (mostly?) drug-free, and it's...fine? Country soul blues with a great backing band and singers, and Elvis being Elvis. Some of the songs (such as "I'll Hold You in My Heart (Till I Can Hold You in My Arms)") really emphasize the parts of his style that are easy to parody, to the point it's hard to take them seriously. And then there are the songs that I know from other, better versions ("Gentle On My Mind" and "Any Day Now"). Maybe it would have done more for me if I'd paid attention when it was new, but at the moment it doesn't do anything for me.

Pretty solid, with the hits mostly on the back half, but solid Elvis, if you like the guy.

I will start this by saying I have never been a huge Elvis fan and audible sighed when this popped up, but I decided to go into this open-minded. I really enjoyed the opening track and it made me think "Huh maybe this won't be as bad as I suspect" and then the rest of the album happens that consist mainly of slow ballads (my least favorite type of song). Still compared to the Adele and Neil Young I had to listen to earlier this week, I liked this album more than those. I also liked the iconic In The Ghetto and was a good end to the album. This album had really good bookends (the first and final tracks), but that boring middle brings it down. Also the tracks I liked still weren't anything amazing. Probably won't listen to this again, but I could see myself revisting Wearin' That Loved On Look again. Overall, I didn't hate it as much as expected, but didn't really like it either. Favorite Track - Wearin' That Loved On Look Least Favorite Track - I'll Hold You in My Heart (Till I Can Hold You in My Arms) ⭐️⭐️

not a single piece of Rock‘n Roll

Suspicious Minds is great. The rest not so much

The thing about Elvis is that critiques should be largely centered around his voice because literally nothing else about his music is his. His voice is fine -- he uses the same vibrato trick and I guess in that era that would've been cool to hear. But his schtick goes stale for me maybe a quarter into the album. Not really my cup of tea. Highlights: In The Ghetto (ofc), It Keeps Right On A-Hurtin'

Elvis as he starts to slide into lounge singer. Listened up as far as In The Ghetto, which is where the original album ended.

While I never bought into the king of rock n roll. I’m more in the Chuck D camp when it comes to EP ( “Elvis ain’t shit to me …”). I do think he has a great voice hence the colonel glomming on to him. Stuck somewhere between the 50s white washing of black blues and rock and the much needed come back special is this gospel rock album. I have a soft spot for 60/80s gospel blues so this gets a slightly higher rating than I expected. I highly recommend the Holy Church Of The Ecstatic Soul A Higher Power: Gospel, Funk & Soul At The Crossroads 1971 - 83 by soul jazz records

actually boring to me

This is later-day Elvis. The blues is pretty much gone and you can almost hear the fat depositing. Turn your head and look towards his past. This is an example of decline. 1.5 stars.

The kings nutsack plays harmonica

Un vibrato qui fait trembler les oreilles internes, pourtant il dit pas grand chose

Not really my style, but recognize several of the tracks on the album

In Father Ted, during a talent show, Ted, Dougal and Jack showcase "The Three Ages of Elvis". First, Dougal bops onstage as early Elvis, shaking his hips to rock 'n' roll music. Next, Ted appears in a full leather suit, as the middle era of Elvis, making his post-military comeback. And finally, Jack appears, holding a cheeseburger, sitting on a throne as the final stage of Elvis: The King. This certainly isn't early Elvis. It doesn't have the rawness or the energy of those early rock 'n' roll songs. We're not yet in the cheesy, jumpsuit-wearing, overproduced "King" era yet either. We're firmly in the middle ages of Elvis. And that's what it all sounds like. Middle of the road. These are a collection of non-offensive country blues songs. They're enjoyable enough, and Elvis' vocals are impressive throughout, but there's nothing amazing to note here. A lot of these songs could be interchangeable with each other, they're that non-descript. I always like to bring up that Public Enemy line about Elvis from "Fight the Power" to back up my feelings about the success of his music. But I've already done that in a previous review, so I'll try my best to refrain from mentioning it in future. Although, it does seem pretty coincidental that that particular Public Enemy album came up only two days ago. If you were to include "Suspicious Minds" in this (it was never on the original release, but was included on the reissues), then it's worth mentioning that it's one of the greats. Regardless of how I feel about Elvis, there's no denying that it's a great song. A great riff, fantastic melody, and that fake fade-out at the end is pretty clever too. But, taking the original track listing, the rest of the album is... grand. Enjoyable but very passive. This is the middle era of Elvis: post military, leather-suit-clad, and pretty middle of the road.

Groomer music

I get it, this is the King! Not just the MJ King of Pop, but the musical monarch of Memphis, TN! Still, as a kid, Lord Presley was already washed up and warmed over. My direct memory is that he was incoherent, probably incontinent (or whatever is the opposite), and morbidly run-down, but still a living legend. The music itself on 'From Elvis' is, to me, nauseatingly inoffensive with bland instrumentation. I know Elvis was amazing, but not on this record.

I just really don’t like his voice. Some of the songs weren’t bad, but it would be better with a different singer. Eric Cartman‘s version of in the ghetto is much better.

Previously unknown. This didn't feel like a necessary listen.

It started off really, really generic and awful. Then the last 5 songs, pretty good. With heart. Still really not great.

While I did enjoy this album. It's not my style of music I didn't hate the songs or anything but I wouldn't necessarily listen to this album again. It wasn't bad though

Do you want to hear late stage Elvis? I'm asking because I'd like someone else to write this review for me please because I would not. It's... Fine I guess. If you like Elvis you'll like this. I do not particularly like Elvis. A lot of the songs here dragged a hell of a lot (I'll Hold you in My Heart, Don't Cry Daddy, It Keeps Right On a-hurtin'). I just feel like there's not enough power behind his voiced for some of these songs, like Power of My Love feels like it needs someone who can really throw their voice and at this point Elvis cannot. On the other hand songs like "suspicious minds" and "I'm movin' on" save it from being absolutely rock bottom. Idk if its this or dad rock hell that I've been dragged through recently, I'll take the latter actually.

Didn't like it

This man groomed a 14 year old and people still glorify it ❤️

I don't think I like Elvis very much.

not for me

You either love or hate Elvis. His music's not really something I care about, but you can't deny hiow iconic and recognizable his sound is.

I’m not a huge Elvis fan, so this was meh for me. I will say though that the way he drawls out his words made me think of Cher lol.

Singen kann er.

Elvis recorded a lot of music, mostly cheesy - l liked 2 maybe 3 songs from his catalog.

It's not bad to be honest but my lack of interest in this genre means it wears thin quick.

After hearing some many parodies of his voice, it's strange listening to Elvis sing. After I got over it, I realized this was an incredibly mid album.

it felt just like classic elvis, to me it was nothing too extraordinary, but listenable. i just think he has better songs, however i loved „any day now” and „suspicious minds”.

I get the appeal of Elvis, but in terms of a full length album I’ve never heard him really put it all together.

Each song is short and fun enough. Once you learn how much elvis stole from black musicians, it's hard to unhear. Nothing here is too interesting.

This was informative. I discovered that I do not especially enjoy Elvis.

This one definitely sounds less dated than some of his other albums on here, but it still didn’t do much for me overall. I get it, he’s Elvis, and I respect what he did for rock and roll, it’s just not my thing. The two stars are basically one each for “In the Ghetto” and “Suspicious Minds.” Those songs are genuinely great and still hold up. Everything else just kind of passed by without leaving much of an impression.

i’m just not an elvis person maybe? besides his christmas albums and his big hits it just doesn’t resonate with me. i get that it was groundbreaking stuff for the time, just not something i’d ever go back to listen to

Yep, that's Elvis alright.

Doesn't do it for me. Historical interest only. I rather enjoy the bass but not to the extent I would recommend this as a must listen.

Certified Elvis hater (especially late period Elvis) reporting for duty: this is lame.

Why is Elvis popular? It's all very meh.

Man I don't know the late 1960s was a time of great experimentation in music and a lot of cool stuff was happening and here's Elvis doing a Vegas lounge version of the stuff that had made him famous over a decade earlier.

nicht schlecht, würde ich zum hintergrund hören vielleicht mal anmachen

Fine. As a whole, very monotone, bit too croony for our tatses. Highlights were the horns, Suspicious Minds and In the Ghetto.

a little lower energy than i'd like

Couldn’t really get through it.. not my kinda music (is this bad)

Never listened to an Elvis album before, but this one put me to sleep. Everything basically sounded the same.

16 songs • 50min Racist misogynistic does not stand up to time. Elvis sucks. I can’t believe I really enjoyed him as a child. 2/5

The more I listen to Elvis the more I go eh at his stuff. I like some of the big hits but the rest I find is just fine.

This would have sounded dated in the 60s, let alone today. It's Elvis so I won't be too harsh but he leans too hard into a lounge lizard and it just seems so gaudy. I think there were better Elvis albums to choose to make this list.

Lounge act Elvis! "Suspicious Minds" was good, but even though Elvis made it big, I prefer other versions of it.

Is this what was driving women to infidelity?

Chill, rainy vibe så er lidt svært at bruge musikken aktivt. Den er bedre som baggrund/stemningsmusik.

Yes everyone should hear Elvis. That said, this isn't the album to nominate for that endeavour. This doesn't sound like the hot young singer that revouitionized popular music in the southern US, this sounds like an older, weathered dude trying to relive his glory days.

Meh. Good voice but they’re not his songs. And nothing too interesting.

Not a Elvis fan.

Did not give the most thorough listen but nothing jumped out at me as either good or bad.

A couple of good songs but I'm not a big fan of the slow stuff

Weak Elvis saved by a couple of good songs. 2.5

50 minutes of Elvis that I'll never get back

I guess I really just don't like the sound of his voice...

It was fine.

s it bad? No. Is it good? Also no. It’s fine. I was expecting more, but this is Elvis's 10th album and he isn’t in his prime. This album is a great choice for background music in an American diner hehe, but it’s not cool to listen to it intentionally. 2/5 —————————————— No liked songs

5.5/10 - A few good songs but not an album I would find myself wanting to listen to again. A lot of the songs on the album bleed into each other in a monotonous kind of way.

No idea how this guy got his own impersonator. Boring album but not as dull as some of his others. 4/10

Kinda okay, I guess? Drags itself along, not a lot of bangers, meh.

Elvis had definitely discovered pharmaceuticals by the time this album was recorded. He's slurring and mumbling on some of the songs. Cover of "I'm Movin' On" is mighty tired compared to the original by Hank Snow

Everyone would have heard enough Elvis in their lives already, rendering this not essential. It’s ok, but certainly nothing spectacular on any level.

Elvis might be the most overrated artist of all time.

I decline the church of Elvis

I was expecting fun Elvis, this was just whatever. Suspicious Minds being the only song with some pizazz.

Some fun and interesting tracks but overall not an album I’d listen through again. Long Black Limousine, True Love Travels on a Gravel Road and Kentucky Rain are all good tracks.

You can never go home, Elvis. You can never regain your innocence. Niaveity becomes sanctimony. Sincerity, sentimentality. Explorative expanse, indulgent excess. Gospel, country soul. There was a version of Suspicious Minds that was always on VH1, where he was having more fun than he’s having here. 2 Elvis Presley‘s voice, here both sublime and ridiculous, is the only element that saves this record from being insipid. I think it’s sad that following the 68 Comeback Special, the moment Presley came closest to cutting his own way artistically, he settled back into the rut of procedural hit-making under the yoke of other people‘s ideas and other people’s arrangements. Safe Country Soul shit with plenty of leaving and dying. Even Ringo was finding his own voice as a songwriter by 1969. Don’t Pass Me By is better than anything here. In The Ghetto is a terrible song - the worst of the Best of Elvis. 2/5

A couple of good songs and the rest is filler

Its elvis

I have truly never understood Elvis's appeal. I even lived in Memphis for a few years and still just didn't get it. I get that he had a unique delivery and voice but all of his songs sound the same to me as a result of that. He has a few hits but nothing all that exciting to me.

Most of that mark of 2 is for the great backing singing. This was quite dull.

Not yet a caricature, but on the way. Good band buried in a so-so mix with too many pop overdubs.

Sounds like a Christmas album, without the Christmas lyrics. Was Elvis still relevant in 1969? I do have In the Ghetto stuck in my head, though.

Elvis was a hero to most but he never meant shit to me he's straight up racist that sucka was simple and plain motherfuck him and John Wayne

It took way too long to get to Suspicious Minds. Otherwise, lots of the same? Pretty meh. I'll say 2.5 - round down.

It’s fine i don’t mind it

Not for me

I have a hard time believing that this album is a "must listen". Surely there are better Elvis albums to listen to. I like Elvis just fine and I don't mind the country/blues feel of this album. But I found this group of songs to fall fairly flat. Favorite tracks: I'm Movin' On, Power of My Love, and Suspicious Minds

This album didn't do it for me. Great sound for a live album, but man, I can't stand his voice or his lyrics. Dude is a cornball. Phenomenal instrumentals, like really tight everything else didn't work for me. It also felt longer than 49 minutes. Gentle on my mind was a fun track, also reminded me a lot of Towns Van Zant. In the Ghetto was another fun track which I enjoyed. Great storytelling All in all, might be blasphemy to say, it's only a 2/5

Elvis at his most anodyne.

Whatever ‘it’ is, Elvis had ‘it’ by the bucket load. That doesn’t mean I want to listen to ‘it’.

Kinda boring Elvis! I feel like you can do better!
