Reviews (page 13 of 14)
Had this playing while cooking. Wish I paid more attention to it. But it set a good vibe for cooking
Solid rock album.
i've never been a huge led zep fan, though I like a handful of their singles. this album was fine but didn't do much for me. the instrumentation seemed technically proficient but several songs in particular were like three minutes too long and didn't really go anywhere. the lyrics all being like "baby, baby, oooohhhh whoooooaaaa, baby be my woman tonight" were not exactly riveting. favorites: good times bad times, babe I'm gonna leave you
Some great stuff here, especially Good Times Bad Times, but there’s also a lot of wanky blues that just goes nowhere. Track 3 in particular just drags so much
Never heard of this, will a Led Zeppelin actually fly? Sounds like an old blues album if you stripped away all the soul, 11 stars!
yeah i liked it
Less rock-like than I expected. I'm learning something new about this band ngl

Not bad, pas super commercial.
Like..... the guitars are good, but it's not like a thrilling listening experience anymore.
Babe I’m Gonna Leave You // Your Time Is Gonna Come // 3.5/5
As much as I wanted to enjoy it more, it was still a good listen with some obvious favourites.
it's ok
Pretty average
I have a hard time lingering to Zep without thinking about they and cultural appropriation. They didn't borrow licks from blues. They stole them and made it big with them. This album is good, as all of their records are. But it's tainted.
There's a lot about this album that I don't love, but there's a lot about this album that I do love. It makes rating this one particularly difficult.
Kultainen keskitie 3*
Good debut, Plant cums all over the place, but it only gets better from here...
Idk. Maybe this was like mind melting in 1969. But since I already know what Led Zeppelin sounds like, it kinda just sounds like a pretty mediocre collection of Led Zeppelin songs.
Lot of ups and downs on this album. I love Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You and Dazed and Confused (though listening to Robert Plant jizz in my headphones has never not been awkward), and Communication Breakdown. Rest of the album is decent. I'm rarely in an entire album of Led Zeppelin mood anymore, but would probably give this another whirl some day.
Good album, but lingers in the blues-y stuff a bit too much for me. Good debut for sure though. I just prefer later albums more. 3.49/5
3.4/5
Don’t tell me you guys’ve never gotten the Led out.
didn’t like it that much but i can’t say it’s bad music just not for me
It's ok
Have only listened to LZ3 in addition to this and while this album still has some good songs I was a much bigger fan of the rock acoustic sound of the 3rd album compared to the bluesy sound of this album.
It's a solid album but not their best material. You can certainly hear the beginnings of what their sound will evolve into.
I can see why this album is well rated. You can hear the star power and beginnings of what would become one of the highest rated bands of all time. But the album has aged poorly, and has some really misogynistic overtones. Not my favorite.
Excellent blues rock and musicianship, but some cringey vocal antics. Quite disjointed in places. Led Zeppelin II is better all round.
Not as good as the other zepplin album
Honestly, it's better than I expected
Parts of this album got a bit tiresome.
Led Zeppelin is the debut album by English rock band Led Zeppelin. The band did such a great job of fusing blues and rock while embracing the emerging hard rock sound, that it payed off with this album being a critical and commercial success. This is considered by many to be the best Led Zeppelin album, and it was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2004. This album has been certified platinum in the US and UK. I like Led Zeppelin, so it was great to finally listen to their debut album in its entirety. Their debut album is exploding with hard rockin' content, and it's also nice to see how much the band has progressed since their earliest work.
Bit proggy for me, one or two bangers
I know there great and all, but was left a little bored on this listen.
Escuchable
Escuchable
A wee bit shouty/noisy. Not the sort of music I would normally gravitate towards, but I definitely appreciated some tracks. Enjoyed Black Mountain Side, I Can't Quit You Baby.
3.8 + Dare I say, I found myself a little bored? Being a so-called “super group”, their musical chops are obviously unimpeachable. But their fascination with electrified blues is pretty par for the era. They tread where countless Brits explored before and since, which makes songs like “I Can’t Quit You Baby” sound tired and overblown to my ears. Still, there are plenty of amazing moments throughout so it never feels like a complete bust to return to this. I especially love the guitar sonics on “Dazed and Confused.”
3-4
A good listen, very Led Zeppelin. Not their best songs but I appreciated listening to their debut front to back, quite sure I've never done that before.
Solid
decent album, bombastic yet a bit forgettable. could have used lesser meandering but was otherwise a solid hard rock album
Another chance to dig out some old vinyl for this list. I like this, I've been a Zeppelin fan since I was a kid. It's clearly an important album in heavy metal and rock history. I'd put II, III, IV, and Physical Graffiti ahead of it in quality and importance on my own Zeppelin list though.
I definitely respect what this did for music, and the fact that this is 1969 is amazing. It's a bit too bluesy for me, and many of the songs are a bit too long. Still, there's some jams on this album. It starts out very strong. Unlike some people, I don't really mind Robert Plant's voice. This record just didn't truly connect with me, except for a few songs. Maybe I'll like some of their other albums on here more. My favourite songs were Babe I'm Gonna Leave You and Dazed and Confused.
Opens with a belter “Good times bad times” then becomes samey precursor to much better things
This one is interesting because you can still hear the bluesy influence in some of these songs, something that definitely phased out as the albums went on. Sadly, that isn't a great thing in my book, as blues isn't exactly my favorite genre. This album was alright, and I think Babe I'm Gonna Leave You may be my favorite rock-centric Led Zeppelin song I've heard, but a lot of this album felt it went on quite a bit longer than needed, despite it's small amount of songs. And while the guitar and vocals were excellent, sometimes there was just too much empty space, due to the blues influence mentioned earlier. Overall an alright album, but you can definitely tell Led Zeppelin only got better with time, at least in my opinion!
Solid. Holds up both as DNA to everything that comes after it and as a stand alone album
good times bad times - ok! 6/10? babe im gonna leave you - não sei pq mas acho que a natalie tinha essa no wrapped? mas não prestei mta atencao porque tava preocupado com a tarefa de otimizacao aqui da pós entao sei la ?/10 you shook me - po essa tem uma parte muito reconhecivel depois tenho que dar uma olhada qual é found it ok!! not really my style but better than i expected
Jimmy page is the saving grace on this album
I mean, it's ok...
Mjeh
Good mix of rock and delta blues that mostly scratches the riffing itch. The longer tracks do tend to drag on - the band is at its finest on the shorter rippers like 'Good Times Bad Times' where it can barnstorm a riff and chord change. The longer tracks become monotonous after a few reps and drag down the momentum.
Imposter syndrome usually sets in when people know I like rock music and play guitar, as I’m not particularly a fan of any Led Zeppelin songs I’ve heard. It seems to be a key point in rock music to talk about Led Zeppelin with other guitarists. That being said, I don’t recognise any songs on this album so let’s see! Songs I already knew: none Favourites: Dazed and Confused, Babe I’m Gonna Leave You It’s going to sound like I’m being purposefully contrarian, which I promise I’m not trying to be, but I just don’t get it. Perhaps if I was a teenager when this album came out then it might have rocked my world, but when listening to it now it just feels very mid. The vocals are certainly very good, but the rest of the music definitely doesn’t blow me away. It seems blasphemous to say it, but I just don’t find Led Zeppelin to be that good! I’ll go hide somewhere now.
One of my least favourite LZ albums. Individually everyone sounds great, especially Bonham, and it's a great sounding album overall. But it's always been too straight, too traditional for my tastes. At last when they nicked everything from the old blues guys on later albums they put their own stamp on it. So much of this first album sounds like an album of blues covers plus a couple of folk covers. Much greater things were to come.
Things would only get better. More druggy, too.
Solid rock music 3/5
It was good but nothing mind blowing for me. Tool is a lot bettee
Some good songs, but a good deal of filler. It’s their first album, seems like they were still developing their sound.
yeah, great stuff. Awesome start obv, but I find bits of the album drift here and there. Overall great to re-listen
Some great songs here, but weighed down by a whole load of other dross which sound pretty much the same. Excess is probably the way to describe it; the vocals, the solos, the length of songs. Sometimes the excess makes a great track, as in the first two examples, but the rest of the time, it's a bit annoying.
Not a fan of super loud music, especially rock-related genres (it just seems a little too much and too unpredictable in my opinion). I do gotta say that the instrumentals were pretty cool (especially the guitars in "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You". The blues airs here and there in the disk are also quite agreeably welcome. At the end of the album, I do have to say that none of the songs really strike me as memorable. I did not particularly like any of the songs either, but this is most likely a matter of my own musical taste. Both songs I liked most were both with the strongest sense of Blues and instrumental rather than vocals. Fav Tracks: - You Shook Me - Your Time is Gonna Come
Solid hard rock album. Just not a fan of the singing style (subjective) and boring lyrics (objective). Nice riffs and stuff, i guess. FAV tracks: Babe im gonna leave you, dazed and confused, good times bad times Least fav: black mountain side - i thought an ad started playing when this came on wtf
A handful a great tracks where they next level their Blues origins and some OK ones which are saved by Robert's vocals. A decent listen.
3.5
Alright, didn't fully click with me though.
Babe i’m gonna leave you - mega vibe worth the build up Dazed and Confused - 2nd half is where the songs goes good Mellow album
defo something I would like to listen to occasionally, maybe even try to play it myself.
Led Zeppelin, doing Led Zeppelin.
Not my favorite. Didn't realize LZ was bluesy (which I don't mind). Would probably be nice to listen to live.
Heard it a lot. Heard it again.
I thought it was alright, not really my genre of music, somewhat entertaining, at least some aspects. I enjoyed the back and forth between the lead and the guitarist on the second or third track. Overall I'd say 6/10, I'm glad I listened but have no plans to revisit.
It is good but I probably wouldn’t relisten to it. Not super my style.
stop stealing songs
This clearly would have turned a lot of heads in 1969 with it's heavy, aggressive sound and over-the-top vocals. I remember reading that, when Ritchie Blackmore of Deep Purple heard this (DP sounded more psychedelic & proggy then) he came to the band and said "this is what we are going to sound like", and fired their singer. In many ways the sound of Rock Music changed after this album. I've heard all of the songs separately but hearing it all together, it's bluesier than I remember, and a bit folkier as well. "Good Time Bad Times" is a great lead off track. My favourite is "Dazed and Confused", and it's good to hear the composer got paid royalties 41 years after this release.
I’ve never been a big fan of Led Zep so 1,001 has forced me to listen to a Zep album for the first time in its entirety. Turns out it wasn’t too bad and I recognize most of the songs. I find the heavy blues / hard rock mix to be interesting, but I can do without Plant’s shrill vocals.
I do like LZ, but I sometimes get a bit Planted out.
Deres første, meget indflydelsesrigt, hard rock, lidt blues
Mało do dodania.
Good, not great. Bluesy sections felt inauthentic. Any time there was an acoustic guitar was a plus. Vocals got on my nerves.
i understand it is their first album but it was definitely not spectacular, but of course the talent was there.
Whole album is endless instrumental solos
2.5, I guess. Probably their worst album out of the ones I've heard so far.
Not their best but still classic.
First time listening to any Led Zeplin albums and the opening tracks were more British blues rock than I was expecting. Dazed and Confused, and Communication Breakdown were on the heavier end and better for it. Interesting first album, with some great vocals and guitar, but not the revolution I thought it might be. Looking forward to their later albums
This is definitely a rating about my own personal enjoyment of this record. There's no doubt it needs to be here. However, I personally find this album a bit bloated and indulgent. It's got hits, but leaves a lot more to be desired for me. Favorite tracks: "Baby I'm Gonna Leave You", "How Many More Times"
When Led Zeppelin rock hard it is genuinely thrilling to hear such high octane, guitar and drums driven blues rock, originating so much we take for granted today - quiet verse, heavy chorus, thrashing guitar chords and cymbal heavy percussion. It’s quite brilliant hearing Good Times, Bad Times, Babe I’m Gonna Leave You and Your Time Is Gonna Come. Where Led Zepp come unstuck is their attempt to sing the blues which really comes off as a bad tribute to blues pioneers. There’s only so much one can stand from Robert Plant talking about all his Babys and Babies before it becomes ridiculous. How Many More Times is especially grim with his school girl fetish; I Can’t Quit You Babe is a pale imitation of twelve bar blues; and the Plant call / guitar response on You Shook Me is cringeworthy. Pioneering and influential for sure but it may be sacrilegious to say there’s a better band somewhere in there…
I really struggle to enjoy Led Zeppelin. They're obviously superb musicians but I don't really like Robert Plant's vocals and I find some of the slow blues numbers are a little bit boring. I like their folky side more; 'Black Mountainside is an enjoyable acoustic raga track but it's a short side trip rather than a main event. Thankfully this element is more prominent on later albums. The quality of the band playing together is undeniable but my 3/5 rating is probably more out of respect than enjoyment factor.
Classic bluesy rock but somehow not everything it should be
Kind of a disappointment. Some absolute bangers (the opening 2 tracks) with some overly long, stodgy, and outright plagiarism.
4 original songs, 36 hours of recording, not bad debut.
A okej mi je ovaj album i okej su mi oni. Pitchfork molim posao
Po sjećanju
Was ok but not really my taste.
cool
Not for me. A classic tho
6/10
This one is just kind of okay
Maybe I expected too much from the first album, but it wasn't anything special.
Peaks at the very beginning with the first 2 tracks. Then it's mostly downhill from that. Still very good as far as debuts go but Led Zeppelin made much better albums than their first one.
I could do without a few of the blues covers, and i could definitely do without Robert Plant screaming like a giant baby on most of the songs.
Is a rock album
Classic sounds that still sound amazing today. Really impressed that these were the sounds from 1969.
Can see why it was a game changer Jean genie bass line appears
Kinda classic and influential rock record, but toooooo boring imho
Led Zeppelin's eponymous debut is a staple in the hard-rock and blues-rock genres, and deservedly so. It's greatest strength lies in it succesfully combining searing guitar riffs and speedy drums with slower time-signatures that make for an intruiging and engaging acoustic sound... for the majority of the tracks on here. The main critique on this record is that the instrumentally focused parts on Dazed and Confused slightly overstay their welcome, that Black Mountain Side does not fit at all with the rest of the record, as it is quite a boring listen. 3/5.
// Favs: – Score: Light 3
Good times, bad times: short and rockin' Babe I'm Gonna Leave You : more blues-y, the quiet bit is a bit silly sounding nowadays. You Shook Me: blues shuffle thing with some screaming. Doesn't do a lot for me. Dazed and Confused: I like this much better - maybe a bit more modern rock. Your Time Is Gonna Come - far out organ, Man. Recognise it when guitar stuff kicks in. This one is good. Black Mountain Side - pointless banjo Communication Breakdown - this is. a bit more like it! rocking. I Can't Quit You Baby. - very blues How Many More Times - quite fun. I think I like this. Sounds good blues-y but a bit harder
Hm, not sure exactly how to rate this one. Based on just the music alone, I really like it. The classic blues/rock riffs hit just right, and I honestly didn’t realized how much this album influenced the shape of rock until I listened to it. Great for running. But I have difficulty rating it very high because of how many of the songs were ripped off from black blues artists without credit. Music is all about influence and borrowing and reacting to your surroundings, but this album is a notorious example of completely ripping off. I guess it gets a 3/5 weighing quality vs context.
I understand why people like Zeppelin, but it’s not my thing.
It’s not really my thing, but I understand the appeal. Tracks are too long.
Rock'n Roll 🤟
Good stuff
Didn't get the hype, alright rock album
Hmmm. Some great, some not so great. Amazing this was around at same time as Beatles - feels very accomplished and new for a debut album.
I liked the songs, they weren't super unique from one another. However they weren't all the same, which is great. The singer has a very distinct(NOT BAD) voice. The songs don't seem to be anything super special, but I enjoyed them.
First I was excited because I've wanted to give LZ another chance for a while. But most of the songs really just don't excite me. They're not bad, but they feel very meandering without going anywhere and end up being pleasant but mostly forgettable.
Was never a chore but was never blown away either - enjoyable
Great listen, even if it wasn't my kind of sound. Never knew they had blues-y songs.
A tad disappointed, but a lot of these sounded pretty similar without a ton of direction. I think he says "baby" about a thousand times. The influences are all there, and you get a look into what they're gonna become, but this one might be a bit overhyped Liked: Good Times Bad Times
Saved Prior: None Off Rip: Good Times Bad Times, Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, Your Time Is Gonna Come Cutting Edge: Dazed and Confused, How Many More Times Overall Notes: I preferred the more acoustic LZ III, but this was still pretty good. I didn't like the blues covers very much, so I'm glad they focused on their own material as they grew as a band.
Until now I never realized how much Robert Plant wishes his voice was an electric guitar. The Page/Plant call and response is on full display here. Everything they do here they do better in future albums, whether it’s softer and folky (III), riff heavy (Physical Graphitti), propulsive (II), or extended (Presence?). I don’t care if they “stole” songs from American bluesmen. B
Not bad. A little too slow for me. I prefer later LZ
The guitar intro gives you a good idea how this album is going to go. This is why Page is a god.
This is more my speed, though I have never really sought out Zeppelin much. I did notice that I put it on that then worked and it is so much in my wheelhouse that I hardly noticed it and then it was over. I started it up again and paid more attention. Like I said, never really sought them out, so not my favorite, but I did like the strings they integrate into a lot of their songs.
more bluesy than what they're known for and still good
Really nice album
I had never heard this album before. Was nice to listen to. The sound that I expected from Led Zeppelin.
Quelques chansons monumentales d'autres passables
Typical Led Zepelin... good but not great. I am just not a huge fan of their sound.
It's not their best. It's got some good Willie Dixon covers, though.
Not as good as I would think
Baby Baby Baby Baby Baby etc...
3.5
IM A ROLLIN THUNDA
Way to aggressiv, absolutely not my taste, to much, like the cover tho
not for me
Its ok
I watched Becoming Led Zeppelin recently. It made me realize that during their debut album era, the band had only one real weakness: the mediocre song material. Plus, I really can't stand Robert Plant's voice or lyrics. On a more positive note, John Paul Jones and John Bonham are flawless, and "Stairway to Heaven, one of the worst songs in human history, is not on this album.
Ok
(It’s my opinion) I did like the vibe of the album BUT some of the songs just didn’t click on me I liked 2 songs overall 5.23/10 ty for reading <3
like this better than lz3 which is in some ways kinda disappointing. pretty bland
Too long didn't finish
This was kind of boring and all the songs sounded the same to me. Maybe I have an untrained ear but it felt unimpressive.
You know those bands where you know everyone is extremely talented, but when they come together, they just don't make music you like? Led Zepplin is at the top of that list for me. The super-long basic blues tunes really dragged this album to a halt for me. When the album was rocking, it was ok, but still not my cup of tea. I expect I will hear more albums as time goes on. I hope that getting away from the 60's psychedelia will help somewhat.
Zeppelin's debut roars out of the gate with a rocker featuring a killer guitar solo. As someone who is generally lukewarm on the band, I wish the album continued in that vein instead of immediately following it up with not one, not two, but three slow, drawn out blues songs. I don't feel the band brings much to the blues that blues artists didn't do better, and the guitar in many places feels simple in comparison. There are some rocking parts thrown in, yes, but they feel like afterthoughts. The second side has better variety and the closer is the one long song whose length feels earned with its several distinct sections. But overall there's too much blues and not enough rock here. I don't dislike this one, but the band would go onto much better things.
will re-rate if needed (as in if I remember to re-listen to it)
Me re embolé
This is the thing with the blues genre. There's a point at which a solo becomes pure masturbation. I cannot listen to a straight minute and a half of random guitar wanky-ness. Fuck off. Other than that, I didn't mind this. The heavier tracks off this album resonated more with me than the more intricate ones but I still saw how talented they were. Pissed off they cut the first track so short. Cool album art though. Favourite tracks: Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, Dazed and Confused 2.5/5
Whelp, at least now I've listened to this thing. And I know that it's obviously for some people - but the songs I actually kind of enjoyed are the ones that they heavily "sampled" (but really just straight up plagiarized from).
Repetitive guitar and lyrics in many songs. Impressive vocal range and guitar (Black Mountain Side) ability. No favorite song
kinda okay not my steez tho
I thought I would like this more than I did. Again, I think their talent is wasted on my ears
Well, what am I supposed to think of this? Admittedly a big name, but to be honest, I find the music disappointing.
you think i would be more impressed, im really not. it wasn't stand out. they get some plus points because this is LITERALLY led zeppelin
Great album! I don't many Led Zepplin albums that are bunk.
Not my first time listening to this album but I wish I didn't have to listen to it again. Plant screeching like a parrot on You Shook Me while Page answers with his guitar has to be top 10 worst sounds ever. It's not all bad, I just don't like Led Zep as a rule 2/5
2.5 - not bad but nothing amazing.
I have friends who looooove this band. And they're not even 55 year old men! But it's just not for me. I am not interested in the guitar solos and most of the lyrics are misogynistic at worst, stupid at best. Yes they can all play and sing but it just doesn't add up to anything appealing to me.
Having listened to very little Led Zeppelin before, I was sort of looking forward to this being life changing or something but it was, well, alright. A few cool riffs, specifically the first and last tracks. A couple of blues numbers that are a little feeble. I think they would work better in a voice that's not Robert Plant's high-pitched thing. It fits alright, but like. Say, Howlin Wolf singing I Can't Quit You Baby may just fix this whole world. Hell, I just listened to Willie Dixon do it and uh yeah, I'm definitely in the camp of Dixon on this one. The Otis Rush version is lacking in recording quality but that voice just fits the blues better imo. That's a motherfucker that's got the blues. Led Zep doesn't have the blues. Wasn't the biggest fan of tracks 4-6, at least not right away, but I'd be willing to give Dazed and Confused another shot maybe in the right headspace. Maybe if I'm high or sleep deprived or something. Can't imagine listening to that 30 minute live version. Communication Breakdown is a lot closer to what I thought I'd be getting this album, and it's probably the track I enjoyed the most. The rest is a mix of decent licks and 60s white Brit blues, which can work on rare occasion. But never as well the og Chicago blues covered here, or any blues from the American South invented by black people, which I feel will pretty much always blow Brit blues out of the water. So didn't change my life. It was alright and there's plenty more Zeppelin on this list, I bet. I'll try some more if I get there.
My stance has always been that Led Zep are shite, but tried to approach with an open mind. Clearly, they're an amazing bunch of musicians, but the end product on this record is quite annoying. It's definitely at least in part due to Robert Plant. Bonham and Jones are very enjoyable, and the guitar is sometimes great, sometimes showboating. In the end, my concentration slowly drifted off as it's not that interesting overall.
Not a huge fan.
1. good - 1.5 2. babe - 3 3. zhook - 2 4. dazed - 2 5. time - 1 6. black - 1 7. communication - 2.5 8. baby - 1.5 9. timez - 2
I didn’t know any songs on this. I just don’t get the hype of Led Zeppelin.
A lot of toying with guitar melodies but no memorable songs.
I liked half of the album
This made me feel nothing. I guess some of the instruments are good? I swear I’ve heard better songs of theirs but I guess they’re not on this album
I listened to this album on my most productive morning in awhile; I woke up well-rested at my first alarm with enough time to eat breakfast at home before work. The temperature outside for my walk around the public safety facility was warm, but not too hot. As the third Led Zeppelin album I have come across on this list, I can not help but view this album in comparison with III and IV, the two albums I am familiar with at this point. So far, III remains my favorite by far; this first album doesn't match the versatility or songwriting of the third installment, and it feels like it lacks the power of the fourth. The flow of this album is also very strange and inconsistent; some songs end rather suddenly, fading out in what feels like the middle of the track, while some songs seem to flow together seamlessly with well-crafted transitions, and then some others crash into each other haphazardly, with a new song playing over the end of the previous one in a way that just feels messy. Maybe I'm burnt out on hearing so much Led Zeppelin in such a comparatively short amount of time (three of their albums withing a month and a half out of a 1089 album list!), but nothing here is as interesting to me as their later albums, and some of the bitterness towards women and ex-girlfriends in the lyrics makes me feel even more disconnected than I already felt. Highlights: Good Times Bad Times
1: You Shook Me 2: Dazed and Confused 3: Communication Breakdown
As a much younger dude I used to really like Zep. Now I was ready for this to be done long before it was. Interesting. That being said, Bonham and John Paul Jones still come across as bad ass, but Plant and Page can go pound sand for all I care. Lol.
I have not listened to this before, there were a couple that I quite liked. The last 2 songs seemed to go on forever….
Some of the slower songs on the album were okay I guess, but I really couldn't get into the rockier ones, especially You Shook Me. I hated that one. I felt like it was kind of pointless for some of the songs to be as long as they were.
Loud.
I coulda sworn we had this already. I guess that was just Led Zeppelin II, III, and IV (scowl). But of course they're gonna have the debut on here; every band has their debut on here. I went in expecting to hate it, and my expectations were... met. This felt a little more mellow than their other albums, though maybe I just had the volume lower. So it was a little bit boring, a little bit bad. Not even any Gandalf references to amuse me. Bring on Led Zeppelin V!
Best Songs: Babe I’m Gonna Leave You Your Time is Gonna Come Quite samey
Re-listening to this album has reaffirmed I can't stand Led Zeppelin. Especially Robert Plant's "baby baby baby" shit. It's all so "epic" and self-aggrandizing. Bonham's drums sound nice though.
I’m taking a two-pronged approach to rating this album: 1. Personal Listening Enjoyment: 0 I was never a Zephead, nor am I a fan of ’70s hard or psychedelic rock in general, so that bias should be noted. I’ve also never enjoyed Robert Plant’s voice—whiny, screechy, and perpetually melancholy just isn’t my thing. This album attempts to fuse rock, blues, and folk—but which genre is it really? “Nobody knows” (Credit to Nate Bargatze—an amazing comedian I thoroughly enjoy and highly recommend. If there’s ever a Top 1001 Comedians to Watch or Listen To list, he’ll be on it, but I digress.) While I genuinely like rock, blues, and folk individually, I don’t enjoy the way these sounds are blended together here. The combination simply doesn’t work for me, and as a listening experience, it does nothing to pull me in. 2. Influence: 5 This album is a perfect example of the whiny ’70s rock sound I can’t stand. That said, it was undeniably ahead of its time and helped define the decade’s rock landscape. As much as I dislike the 17-minute self-indulgent guitar and drum solos, I’ll admit that parts of them are absolutely incredible—just far too long. That excess ultimately kills the momentum for me. John Bonham and Jimmy Page are very likely top-three drummers and guitarists of all time. Unfortunately, that talent often feels buried under indulgence - fuelled by alcohol and drugs. Despite my personal distaste, Led Zeppelin has transcended generations and is rightly regarded as one of the top 5 bands of all time. Credit where credit is due. Side note: If I were going to listen to a Zeppelin album, it would be Led Zeppelin IV, not this one.
It still grinds my gears that Page wrongly claimed songwriting credits for songs here (Anne Bredon, Bert Jansch, Jake Holmes) and took many years to make restitution to Bredon and Holmes. Bert Jansch did not receive the credit, or the royalties, that he should have had. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anne_Bredon https://faroutmagazine.co.uk/guitarist-led-zeppelin-jimmy-page-really-ripped-off/ https://www.covermesongs.com/2019/01/the-story-behind-led-zeppelins-dazed-and-confused.html Also, on this listen, the album doesn't sound great. It's historically important, obviously, but for theft of credit it is marked as 2 stars.
Not really my type of music.
38. fine
2.5
Not really my genre of music, but impressive guitar
Never been a fan of Led Zeppelin. Can’t give it more than a 2, because it’s obviously not horrible but I don’t care for it.
I appreciate the album, just not really my vibe
I didn’t like this album to much. Skipped passes a lot of songs. Just to much for me.
Not for me
nope
Couple good ones but overall not for me. Felt like every song was them just jamming for 1.5-2 minutes too long TOP 3: Babe I’m Gonna Leave You, Dazed and Confused, How Many More Times
I really do not like blues
Amazing music but had to force myself to not listen carefully to the lyrics... in this day and age they feel whiny and almost make me understand the origins of the male loneliness epidemic... idk, great reference, will probably not listen again
Det finns stunder som låter bra, t ex Your time is gonna come och I Can’t quit you baby.
i cannot get into led zep at all, used to love them in high school when i first got into rock but i just can't do it anymore
This self-titled album starts strong with the guitar intro of Good Times Bad Times, enticing the listener with the catchy beat but falls short on the other songs. Most of them just sounds jumbled, borderline overstimulating. Now, I'm no prick who would hate on an artist's entire discography just because of one bad album but this is my first time listening to Led Zeppelin intentionally (I, of course, have listened to Stairway to Heaven but who hasn't) and this is not a good introduction. I haven't heard a lot of songs from the blues rock genre but there's got to be some that are way better than a lot of the songs in this album. Skill wise, they're obviously talented. But the mix and the timing of some of the riffs just feels off. They place it in places that make them feel flat, if you get what I'm saying. Also the lengths of these songs! You can cut them in two and have two songs. I get trying to build up to the climax but at a certain point it just gets boring. The song(s) I liked the most are Communication Breakdown and How Many More Times (without that loooooooooong riffs in the middle, it gets too repetitive and boring). The song(s) I liked the least are Baby I'm Going to Leave You, Dazed and Confused, and I Can't Quit You Baby.
No way. My fourth Led Zeppelin album, and the first where the real Led Zeppelin makes his appearance on the cover. Guess this means IV will be the final Led Zep album to grace my list. Not a bad album to send the band off. Stairway to Heaven is more or less the progenitor to the "long song" format, which is one of my favourite makes of song when done correctly. Anyways, I'm getting too carried away. This album cover reminds me of that Battlefield 1 glitch where the blimp is destroyed in an increasingly comedic fashion (https://preservetube.com/watch?v=FfipmRWAuJI). The Hindenburg disaster was only the prelude to such a tragedy. I don't remember much about the previous Led Zeppelin album aside from it being kind of a bore. Hopefully this is a pick-me-up. Quite an interesting album. I don't remember the band being this varied, particularly in the case of III, which was more or less just a folk album after Immigrant Song. There's a general blues influence in here too, which I don't remember being as pronounced on their other albums. Anyways, this is fine. I didn't really feel one way or the other while listening to this and it lost me pretty heavily during the second half, though I can still admit that this is solid. The vocals are good as always, and those guitars and undeniably gripping. 44-minutes is by all means a respectable runtime, though truth be told I felt that the lengthier tracks dragged on for longer than they were worth. "Good Times, Bad Times" is pretty cool. The songwriting is good, though the guitarwork is where it's truly at. The subdued, yet all-consuming sound in the first half of the track is great. "Your Time Is Gonna Come" is good. I like the chorus, and the acoustic guitar is solid throughout. "Black Mountain Side" is a cool interlude, though the rest of the album kind of blends together. Book time. Nothing much in there beyond this being their debut and establishing the benchmark for their superior follow-ups. Like all the other Led Zeppelin albums, I'm favourable to this inclusion. Five albums seems like the perfect number of inclusions for a band of this caliber. I cosign this inclusion.
I just don't get the Led Zep thing. I'm sure they were all great musicians but to my ears the sound is laboured and the vocals painful.
This project keeps sending me Led Zeppelin albums and the same thing keeps happening: I don't like them. I thought their debut could have a better shot, because maybe it was rawer and the band hadn't yet gone fully up their own asses, but nope! There's still stuff on here I actively hate, like when they get slow and bluesy ("I Can't Quit You Baby," for instance). I liked the more rocking parts of "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You," but I still find Led Zeppelin insufferable. No thanks.
So much screaming!
this shit is shit 2/5
Not for me
The second song on the album is good but not good enough for me to check what it’s called
There are some near-universally acclaimed bands that I’ve never listened to and this list is my first real exposure to them. This is one of them. It may have been revelatory when it was released but to me it sounds like a competent blues album with a couple of hard rock tunes.
I don’t really have anything else to say about Led Zeppelin that I haven’t said about the other albums. I probably would have liked this one a little more if we were getting slammed with all LZ albums at once.
Fine? Not a huge fan of the vocals but there is some real musicality there. Throwback vibes, reminded me of the music we listened to on the record player at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. A time capsule. I would probably skip because the vocals were whiny but if it were on at a coffee shop I wouldn’t care too much. Not hugely into lyrics so I have no idea what any of it is about since I couldn’t really understand and didn’t look up.
Really good drumming on this album.
If Led Zeppelin has two modes, one endless blues rock riffing with sexual innuendos and wailing, and the other tolkien epic battle narrative .... this album was all mode one and it dragggged for me.
an incredible snoozefest given the reputation at play
this was fine. i like led zepplin a normal amount. i am so tired of this list
whatever
So overrated. The vocals are sometimes great, sometimes grating and the rhythms are mostly the same in each song. The guitar work is skilful of course, but it is attention seeking to an unnecessary degree. It blows my mind that generic twaddle like this can gain so much respect. It’s not awful, so I can’t award 1 start but I have absolutely no desire to listen again because nothing here impressed me.
I wanted to enjoy this more. I like Led Zeppelin III and IV well enough (at least what I remember of them) and hoped this album would be another on that list. I'm not sure if their first album just isn't as refined, or maybe it caught me on an off day... but I found myself bored. After the first couple of songs it was a bit of a slog to get through. Don't get me wrong, the songs were all fine, it wasn't unpleasant - but it didn't feel particularly special or cohesive in any way worth noting. I may give it another go some time, and I'm certainly looking forward to some later offerings from Jimmy, Robert and the Johns when they come up.
not a single harmonica in this album, good stuff from the lads
pleasing to hear
I don’t know how you could listen to this album without a good dose of LSD. The song You Shook Me needs double dose. I was a young teen when Led Zeppelin did its thing. Songs like Rock N Roll and of course Stairway To Heaven, which enjoy, were on the radio. The pop friendly Sticks album is more my speed.
Džaba krađa ideja i svega kad se ništa pošteno ne zna.
just like iii it doesnt do anything for me
I just don’t think I have it in me to enjoy a Led Zeppelin album. They’re all very good at the instruments they play, but every song is just so boring to me. There’s only so many times I can listen to noodling guitar solos and shrieks of BABY before my brain checks out and wishes it was listening to something more entertaining and enjoyable.
I like the sound of this album but I can't love it because it feels like every song is just moaning about some woman. Waaaaaa she did this, she did that. Brother get a hobby
Not too fond of metal rock albums because of the lack of progression in a lot of the songs, where this is a similar story. There were maybe 1 or 2 interesting pieces but nothing stood out for me.
Meh
Good music, terrible vocal and lyrics. Also - why is every song at least twice as long as it needs to be?!
This may be a famous rock band/ singer, but very not my style. I do not like the screechy vocals nor the rock vibes. 2
Overrated as always
Hard rock headbanging sound from '69.
Not for me!
I can appreciate the musical quality of Led Zeppelin, and I really liked the unexpected organ intro in "Your Time Is Gonna Come", but I feel that all the songs drag on a bit too much for my taste. However, I am not usually rocking with classic rock, for no particular reason. I can see how it would hit as a dude in the 1970s. Doubt I'll listen to this album ever again, but honestly made for a pretty productive hour of work as it was good background noise.
Couple of killer tracks, and a few cool sections surrounded by boring blues garbage sung by a laughing hyena on helium Not terrible enough to warrant a 1 though
I did not know any of the songs on this album. I would not listen to it again.
Didn't care for most of it tbh
Fine. I liked Good Times Bad Times.
cracks me up when plant gets all i'll-have-what-she's-having mimicking page's guitar. corny shit!
Bleh
I recognize their musical ability, but unfortunately that's where it stops for me. While I am generally a fan of rock, there is just something with Led Zeppelin that does not click for me. They do not feel like a coherent band, rather 4 people who happened to be in the studio at the same time and each do their own thing. It pains me to say, but I find myself waiting for the album to end. 1.5/5, which I round to 2 for the cool cover and the legendary status of the band.
dissapointed was expecting more but i’m sure it’s bc it’s just their debut. was lowkey boring but had like 2 good songs. i can appreciate and realize what they were doing tho. still good for that time period for sure.
This album had glimmers of what they would become, but they were still finding themselves at this point.
I can't get over how mid this is
One of my favourite ever queen songs is Killer Queen; but I also have never really listed to queen outside of the hits. It was great to listen to how this album develops from the very first song. Freddie’s voice is incredible.
Look I’ll be honest, not my fave. It just keeps going on and on with the instrumentals which just get tiring. The last song is about 10 minutes long and most of it is just wailing. I liked the history and context but just didn’t enjoy it. 2/5 awful
I hate Led Zeppelin and always will. Couple of decent instrumental moments and Robert Plant on first track was ok and then at the end he did his screech voice. This is a 2/5 for me (I assume all their albums will be this) for others it’s probably a 3 or 4 among Led Zeppelin fans. This has got to be Top Ten Bands I don’t get. It’s fine but it’s not pleasant to my ears. Yes they can play but I don’t like their songs and this kinda 70s rock (or I guess 1969 rock)
Meh, I wanted to like it more but couldn't really get into it.
Wearing. Man, I want to like these guys, and I frequently do, in small doses. The guitar and drum sound are phenomenal by any measure. But I just can't abide Robert Plant's caterwauling vocals for more than about ten minutes at a time. I thought this was going to earn a high score but by the end I was relieved it was over.
Track rankings: 1. Good Times Bad Times - Inoffensive / 2. Babe I'm Gonna Leave You - Bit unsure. I liked the upbeat instrumentations at parts but didn't particularly care for it otherwise / 3. You Shook Me - I quite liked it at the start but the goofy ahh flute went on WAY too long (over half the song holy shit) / 4. Dazed and Confused - Didn't stand out to me / 5. Your Time is Gonna Come - kinda bad lol / 6. Black Mountain Slide - ??? / 7. Communication Breakdown - This one was pretty decent, best one so far / 8. I Can't Quit You Baby - liked some funky guitar riffs, but did not care for the song. also this guy is freaky ahh / 9. How Many More Times - kinda skipped through bc it was boring but yeah / The only one I added to my playlist was 7, but I will listen tomorrow and might remove idk. I will relisten to 2 tomorrow and might reconsider. Overall this album was largely just inoffensive and I didn't care for it at all, but I also didn't particularly hate it. I would probably give it 2.5/5 stars if I could, but if it's between 2 or 3 I definitely have to go with 2. I may or may not write this meticulous of a review for future albums, we'll see.
Bit disappointed with this.
Quite a bit more bluesy than I expected, but their signature sound is still apparent. They get better.
The first album of the legendary career of Led Zeppelin. I never realized how Blues influenced Led Zeppelin was until I listened to this album. There's definitely some HEAVY blues featured here. There were times where the guitar sound gave me a headache, as well as Robert Plant's voice. He just hits a specific pitch that pierces my ears and goes straight to my head. When comparing the guitar solos to the Muddy Waters album, I now have a greater appreciation for Muddy and how clean his solos were. Overall, this album was okay. If I can give it a half star, I'd give it a 2.5/5. But since I can't, I would say that this album was on par with Metallica's "Master of Puppets" album, which was a 2/5.
Over 6 min songs are a crime against humanity. However, some of the crimes in question are pretty good. At least there is some variety. Still, I'm not super eager to listen to any of the songs again.
please for once in my life let me listen to something nice
Mediocre album for rubes by a middle band full of musical thieves.
Very underwhelming
They have better
An ok album
Good Times Bad Times+++ Babe I'm Gonna Leave You++ Dazed and Confused+++ Communication Breakdown+ Mais pas fan des autres morceaux (blues ou autres). =>2/5
Too much Zep when I was too young to appreciate them. I can appreciate them more now, but some of these are like jingles that have been repeated too many times for me.
Fannst hún frekar einsleit og heillaði mig ekki.
this is just not for me lol
Rock and heavy on the blues which I wasn’t expecting. Dazed and confused is such a memorable track
Lead balloon
Not too bothered about listening to this again. Clearly influenced a lot of bands who did it better.
Summary - didn’t enjoy this as much as really any of their other work. Rough start, a band trying to find its sound. good times - hell of an opener. In hindsight you can tell this isn’t a rookie band. Thumping drums Babe leave you, nice second. Big change of pace. Plant belting out range, powerful Torturously slow Shook Me, with some raw edge to Plant’s upper, almost strain. Ooh keyboards! Ok this song just won’t end Dazed and confused: OG, trippy. Album version is nice. Live sticks around far too long You’re time is gonna come - this is some good shit Black mountainside- this album is all over the place. I thought jimmy had a plan. This is demo - level stuff. Like what they’d release if Jimmy passed and they put together posthumous songs I can’t quit you - blues masturbation. Good. Again, a band trying to find their place How many more times - riffing goodness. Slop. Sloppy slop splashing around. Love it. Also very masturbatory. Also endless no longer love it.
Led Zeppelin's in the sphere of music I usually love, but it's maybe a bit too blues and a bit too shouty for me, without much unique to pull it back. There's some great riffs on here - noted in Good Times Bad Times, Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, Communication Breakdown, and How Many More Times. Other tracks I hated - Your Time Is Gonna Come is too repetetive, and You Shook Me is miserable. Lyrics is a big deal for me also, and the only thing I really remember from this album is him crooning 'Woman' over and over.
I was expecting to really dislike this, but a lot like Led Zeppelin IV, it’s better than I expected. I see why Babe I’m Going To Leave You is so highly regarded and Good Times, Bad Times was pretty good, too.
I didn't care for this album as much of the other of theirs that I've listened to as part of this project. The solos went on too long and I got bored listening to them.
Same as the last zeppelin album, lots of good bits that have been covered or sampled elsewhere but altogether, not amazing.
Ehhhhh. There's a certain amount of sleazy charm, and I guess technically the music is good, but honestly listening to it felt more like a chore than pleasure. Too long, too stretched out, woeful lyrics with a slight sprinkling of period misogyny. The world "baby" has lost all meaning for me. Alas, this is too out of my time.
Led Zeppelin were huge throughout my childhood and high school. I never liked them. Based on multiple hard rock bands, typified by Led Zeppelin, I thought I didn't like electric guitar AT ALL and realized I am not a rocker-girl. Never liked Robert Plant's voice, and still don't. I appreciate them more now... liked the bluesier, more stripped down parts of songs (You Shook Me, I Can't Quit You Baby -- lead me to Willie Dixon), really appreciate that they didn't like to release singles, have 6+ minute songs. Still not my jam but appreciate that they're great.
Faves: Good Times Bad Times, Communication Breakdown
Kyllä tämä paremmin maistui kuin IV. Henkinen puoli tähteä lisää.
Black Sabbath does it better. What's rich is that I would rate this album higher, if it weren't for Robert Plant sounding like he's being kicked in the balls repeatedly. Can't stand the man's voice, even if the instruments are flawless.
I hear a lot of Jack White in some of these. Didn't realize "Good Times" and "Communication Breakdown" were from their debut album. Some songs are okay, others are pretty mid. I can see why this was impactful, but I can't listen to Plant caterwaul for more than one song. 2.9
No thanks
Rooms for improvement!
Interesting because of what we all now know was coming; but on its own merits its a group of really exceptional musicians feeling each other out over blues standards (uncredited though they be).
less good than IV
Led Zep - Again! Rolls eyes Stifles yawn Still not converted.
Not for me
Not really a fan of Led Zeppelin
Not my type of music
Known Before: Standouts: 2
Raskain, elastisin ja rytmittömin kuviteltavissa oleva tulkinta bluesista. Plus paikoin vaikuttavaa kitarointia ja pari kivaa rokkivetoa (ok, yksi helvetin kova), jotka eivät ihan pelasta kokonaisuutta.
Not my thing.
mid
I’ve known a lot of Led Zeppelin fans throughout my life, and even been related to some of them. I personally couldn’t name a single song by them or pick one from a list. I’ve heard them listed as Hard Rock or even Metal but after listening to this album, I’m not sure I see the appeal? I’m willing to give some of their other albums a fair shot but I don’t see how this one has gotten so many 5 ratings. Way more blues riffs than I thought, not nearly as “hard” as I’ve been “Led” to believe. It’s certainly listenable, but not one I’d be choosing for myself.
Hab schon wieder vergessen. Guess hat keinen Eindruck hinterlassen
Listened to a lot of Zeppelin growing up, mostly II and IV. Honestly find this one annoying as fuck.
