This must be what other people experience when they hear heavy metal and say "it's just noise". I gave it a go but honestly it was like listening to Jez try and play the saxophone for half an hour. Not for me.
I gave it a good go, sadly Jazz, much like mushrooms, is just not for me
I like some jazz albums, but this one was not it for me Top tracks: None
Melkein kiinnostavaa siinä määrin kuin bluesia. 1+
Fuck you you fucking fucker, its Jazzzzzzz
Yikes. While I enjoyed the movie “Whiplash”, generally speaking full-on Jazz is just not my bag. I would choose to chill with some SD 10/10 times over this. .5/5 rounding up.
Can't even scrub through this. 1001 albums to never listen to.
It's the genre, not the ablum
Sehr experimentell.
Fuck this is getting bad
0-1
Maybe great, but nothing I am able to listen
I’ll say one thing about this album…it is definitely JAZZ. .25/5
This was a lot of chaos
Most jazz sounds very random to me. 1/5
Nope
Okay! Alright! Enough of that!... I've suffered through the first track on this album. It literally sounds like music the CIA would use to torture & interrogate terrorists using sleep deprivation. This shit ain't for me. Fuck jazz. 👎👎
Thank the gods this only had 4 tracks! I couldn't take much more of the cacophony. Couldn't finish most of the songs because of the extreme discord.
Wow! I remember the first time I heard this type of music, I thought it was a mess. All this sounds that no matter how I tried I could understand why someone thought this sounded good. That was probably 45-50 years ago and today I still feel the same way. But to each their own. Different strokes for different folks.
i did not enjoy this
To say Charlie Mingus is an extremely talented individual is an understatement. With that out of the way if I never hear this album again it will be too soon, minutes of my life I will never get back
Every jazz album I'm forced to endure further solidifies my hate for the genre.
Heavy jazz, not my prefernce
Es raro. Parece todo un solo tema. Aburre. No lo compraría nunca. No me gustó.
I would say that this whole album was off-key and very annoying, and we struggled listening through the whole thing. Yes, it was a good thing that there were only 4 songs but also they were sooooo long, we may as well have listened to 15 songs. I like jazz music and I find it very smooth and relaxing sometimes, but this was a bit too much :D
Jazz 🤮
couldn't do it, no disrespect to mr. mingus
Crazy jazz. Not for me.
The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady is undoubtedly avant-garde and showcases impressive improvisational skills from highly skilled musicians. It was truly ahead of its time, offering freeform jazz with remarkably cohesive tunes. While I appreciate its skill and influence, I personally found it challenging to connect with, as I have yet to find a jazz musician I resonate with. I'd rate it a 4 for its artistic merit and influence, but personally, it's a 1 as it doesn't align with my preferences for repeated listening. NUMBER OF BANGERS - 0 STAND OUT TRACK - None
Too limited in the instruments for me. Or I donno, just a bit boring.
I’m not a fan of jazz in general but for some reason this album felt even worse than usual
no thanks
Jazz is the worst
Not my jam although better than John Coltrane.
I might just not be sophisticated enough for this type of music. For me there are just too many attention-competing sounds going on at the same time to be able to enjoy it.
Poor
4 tracks of awful noise, not for me at all, I'm confused about how this made the list!! easy 1 star or maybe even 0
Eh. It sounded like a nightmare to me. Chaotic. There were some songs that I could stomach for a minute, but couldn’t listen to the whole thing. I tried.
jazz...
Nah
just bad
Wasn’t my cup of tea.
Not for me
Well, sonofabitch. You get me all worked up with the previous album, then hit me with 4, 10 minute songs that sound like a bunch of blaring horns. I swear this list just tries to piss me off at times. Congrats. You found success. F off with this noise. At least I see Zeppelin on the horizon. It's better than the Suicide band, but not by a lot. I'll go 1.5, but it's still going to be scored 1 1.5
Jazz
Far too sexy for me
There are 2 types of jazz and they’re both shit
Has occasional glimmers of the band coming together, but so much of it was a grating, discordant cacophony. Exhausting. Painful.
Some people say they don't understand jazz. This album helped me realize I am one of those people.
'Chaotic' is the only word that comes to mind
Nope ! Really and truly not my cup of tea. A racket ! 1*
To chippy to lively for my current phase. I guess it’s true you have to grow into the jazz.
no this gave me a headache sorry mr mingus:(
BORING. I don't even know of an occasion where you would play that!
Too Jazzy for me! I was tired and jet lagged when listening to this and it just grated on me. Probably didn't give it a fair shout, but not sure how much more I would've enjoyed it anyway
Can’t hack this, or almost any jazz really.
This is probably good jazz but I don’t like jazz.
No, no, no, nooooo, God no
i'm sure this is a piece of art, but this feels like anxiety noise
Sämst hittills👎
Bad!
My family asked me to turn this off. I concur.
This was painful. I admire those of you that can appreciate the sound of 29 (?) instruments all playing different songs at the same time but it’s a ‘No thanks’ from me.
Jazz...
Nope
This kind of jazz gives me the headache.
The words Collective improvisation and Free jazz fill me with horror and frustration simultaneously. I once had a friend who was in an improvisational jazz band. They used to play every week in a room above a pub. Out of loyalty, I used to go and support said friend. After the first week, I realised that if I did not have something to occupy my hands and brain I would go mad. So I gathered all my clothes that needed mending or buttons that needed sewing and I used to sit in the crowd repairing clothing. Otherwise I would’ve found being there unbearable. I feel like we’ve had overkill on the jazz lately but that’s because it doesn’t speak to me. Every time I think that I can be swayed to like the music and maybe get into a tune, it turns into a syncopated discordant mess. I understand that Mingus is a revered genius, and I may be an unsophisticated heathen but I just want to scream and bang my head against a wall. Another jazz-loving friend used to tell me that jazz opens the soul and encourages you to share your deepest, emotional experiences with others. I find alcohol does that just as well.
This is great music for people who readily relate to emperors who love new clothes that only they can see. This was what my high school jazz band sounded like when they were warming up to play actual music. Save yourself 40 minutes by listening to the first 10 seconds and then shutting it off.
I appreciate jazz and free flowing jam sessions but this is just a train wreck.
What was that I just listened to?
Jazz it’s ok
From the start this is wheezy, aimless, painful to listen to. Like an orchestra tuning up for half an hour, yet all seemingly out of key with each other. It's stuff like this that gives Jazz its terrible reputation. Moments of Track B and C almost have a tune but then seem to lose interest like a puppy with ADHD. It's not for me.
jazz eller rass? Rass.
Not for me.
I was looking forward to this, never having knowingly heard Mingus before. But this just washed over me, and nothing jumped out from it. I guess I just don’t really ‘get’ jazz.
It was a bit of a racket tbh. Did me head in.
This just made me very depressed both times listening. I get the musicians involved are talented and you would have to love avant-garde jazz to some degree, but I just couldn't get on board. It also didn't help every song sounded exactly the same except for an added focus of a particular instrument here and there. It's a bit like eating the same meal for breakfast, lunch and dinner with each serving having one different ingredient.
1/5 it got annoying at some point.
I guess it is a taste thing but I really did not like this.
Didn't enjoy this. 1/5 stars.
It might be the great, but it's jazz
Struggled with this as it's not really my thing, the final track was the easiest to listen to
🎷🎹🎺
Don't understand freeform jazz. I've tried - I even went to a jazz club specially to try it. Had a great time but not because of the jazz.
So lost in it’s own cleverness that it forgets to be even remotely interesting.
Not my thing
It’s a no from me.
A cacophony. When everyone is doing their solo at the same time, then nobody is doing a solo. "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat" by Mingus, is 10x better than every track on this album, but it's not on this album.
Yesterday I was at a Speakeasy and today I'm in a jazz club. I love it, love these vibes. It's 10am but I guess I need to make a cocktail. I was very overwhelmed by this album. I'm not typically listening to jazz on a day-to-day and there were some parts that struck me like \"the band is warming up\". That was a little off-putting to me as a non-listener.
Too weird
I like jazz, and I can dig some pretty avant-gaurde stuff, but this was quite hard to listen to. Very few times could I even understand where the music was going, and sounded like the instruments weren't even playing with each other. Every once in a while there would be a nice groove, but it was just a little jarring.
“Jazz is stupid, I mean just play the right notes” - Angela Martin
Mingus? More like dingus. 🙃
Absolute nonsense! Every single member of the band is playing a different song. I’m sure they’re all having fun, but unfortunately, I wasn’t!
