Reviews (page 11 of 13)

It’s ridiculous how prolific Paul McCartney has been in his career. Five full albums in three years, after The fucking Beatles, is insane. More impressive that he played most of the instruments here, too. It’s pretty good. Nice and sweet, with a few surprises. Not all bangers, but decent pop. 3/5

Very good. Not super consistent, but lots of really great songs

Having not been there, this album feels a lot like I how imagine the 70s were: overindulgent, sprawling in new and exciting ways that may not exactly be good, but still pretty fun. Some of these songs I can imagine putting on the 8 track in the AMC Pacer and thinking you're the coolest guy in the world, some of them I hear in a wood paneled basement with shag carpeting. A lot of the sounds I love from much later music show up here, as do a lot of sounds I don't care for. Some of the songs bang (the fuzz in Jet is wild) but then Bluebird is a real stinker. Picasso's Last Words is very clever, but also, c'mon Paul, some of this shit is just elevator music. A lot of good stuff, Paul's Beatles influence is still pretty obvious (good thing) and he's undeniably got a knack for a tune but for my taste overstays its welcome. Starts and finishes with something like a bang, so I guess that's where the head's at.

Not really my taste

Not a massive fan but did enjoy this

Blue bird, band on the run, jet, album sounded.. and it is, old.

Better than I remember

Mixed of both good and average sounding songs.

Paul McCartney é sempre sinônimo de boa música.

Bit of a front loaded album. The first few tracks are fantastic. Band on the run is obviously the stand out and they bring it back in different from throughout the rest of the album. The slower songs were a bit of a miss and I found myself wishing they kept the upbeat tempo from the beginning of the album. Overall still a solid album just could have been even better. 6/10

This was fun Pop Rock. The title track was the only one I was familiar with going in, but there weren't any songs on it that were bad.

It's alright.

It's ok. Not that special

It has some great parts, but over-all it sounds outdated and almost corny at times. Favorite song: Jet

I liked this better than the Beatles. Top tracks were Drink To Me and Mrs. Vanderbilt

It was decent. Probably 3-3.5

some nice songs but shy of being truly remembered

Let Me Roll It is a great tune.

Decent listen, a little flat to be honest.

Easy to listen to but nothing special

MEGET bedre end den anden McCartney plade. Stor 3er, mange bangers her på

Some good songs on there

self titled track is a masterpiece and the rest of the album is a slow decrease in quality. McCartney is no doubt one of the most brilliant musicians of all time, but his best work is also representative alongside is compatriot Mr. Lennon.

Starts off tremendous but slows down as it progresses

Probably the only post-Beatles album, by an ex member, that I've liked so far.

Yeh it was alr

Noteworthy songs - 808080808 Magical Dream - Kinda catchy synth, but the rest is bland. Ancodia - Good background noise. Cobra Bora - Actually kind of cool, reminds me of Bomberman Hero. Pacific 202 - N64 vibes, but melody isn't great. Donkey Doctor - Nothing too special, weird ending. 808080808 - Really cool beginning. A little slow in the middle but stays interesting enough. Sunrise - Nothing remarkable. The Fat Shadow - Eerie. Very short.

It was OK, neither great nor bad

ok, but not that fussed

Best thing The Beatles did for their legacy was to split up.

Lots of quite different sounding tracks, good instrumentals and writing. Quite funky at times. Nothing stood out as being outstanding though. Highlights: Bluebird Mrs. Vandebilt

Band On The Run

Good. Prefer John's work after the Beatles.

It just sounds like mediocre mid-career Beatles stuff.

It’s good at first, but the song writing keeps getting worse. Still a ok album and a pleasant listen. Not comparable to Abbey Road though.

I mean, it’s not bad. Probably pretty good, even. This kind of music just doesn’t do much for me.

Kinda interesting to see Paul's musical force at full energy here.

Mildly interesting pop.

This just leaves me cold. I just don't like it. - Nineteen hundred and eighty five - is tolerable. Nice guitar solo.

Good title song; the last song was excellent as well. But the in between bits were kinda blah.

I liked the album, but no song is as good as Band on The Run.

Didnt love it. Was surprised by that

I like McCartney, but this is not something I'd go back to a lot. The two big hits are great, as is Let Me Roll It, but nothing appealed to me enough to add to my Liked Songs.

It was all fine and there were some cool moments in songs like Band on the Run, Let, and Let Me Roll It. But then they seemed to drag a little.

Huh ok wow I liked this. The last song 1985 gets a solid 4 and I will be revisiting it, a true little gem. But the rest was cool and band on the run was a little heap bop too

It's an okay record. Definitely over hyped. It's something your aunt says she loves and you can't find it in you to criticize so you let it play out because really it's not that bad and not worth bringing down someone's joy of it.

I think it was fine?

Fun! Started today grumpy and expected to be made more grumpy by this but was instead made less grumpy! I’m not a cynic after all!

Great and eclectic

This was a very pretty album. Unique instrumental choices have always been a strength of Beatles and adjacent projects, and this was no different. Not the most striking album, but sweet and not too long.

++: Let Me Roll It, Ninety Hundred and Eighty-Five +: Band on the Run, Jet, Bluebird, Mrs. Vandebilt, Mamunia, No Words +-: Picasso's Last Words (Drink To Me) 7,7/10

Pretty good, kinda self-indulgent.

Surprisingly I like this album a lot more than any of the 20 The Beatles albums on this list. That doesn’t say much, but it’s a solid 3. The first tracks are much better than the 2nd half of the album.

The extra tracks at the end really make the album drag. Otherwise the album felt very full. Band on the Run, the single, is very memorable.

Bought this album but went off it

good album, not sure how much ill be going back to it.

Great start and finish and a bit middling in the middle. Still, enjoyable enough. 3.5 stars.

As awful as the Beatles were, Paul continues to be a proven song writer and musician and there's no exception with this album. Some of the songs are a bit cheesy but there's some absolute classics and some hidden gems on here.

Meh. Don’t think I like britrock.

Not the finest album featuring McCartney, but a decent enough listen.

I enjoyed a handful of tracks and it was a great solo album for McCartney

a fine album. didn't love it, didn't hate it. it was a fine experience.

Eh. Didn’t make me want to kill myself

shou mayyitttttt ya dillehhhhh shi ma byinta2

I’ve always had trouble with the sound on this album which is so flat and reminds me of an AM radio. Perhaps the band on the run can only send us a compressed message from the desert. Of course the recording co Dutton’s in Lagos didn’t help. But things like the out of tune clams on Bluebird do t do much to recommend and album that was written with a whole band in mind and recorded with only those who were left after the bickering subsided. It’s…not great?

It's decent; couple good ones. I like the bass line in the beginning of Picasso's Last Words. 3.5*

I liked this better than the Beatles. The guitar riff halfway through “let me roll it” was awesome. Mamunia was beautiful. Nine Hundred and Eighty Five has the Paul McCartney vibe I’ve come to like a lot.

Fresh off The Beatles but not being his first solo album, I expected this album to be more McCartneyesque and less Beatlesque at some points. That wave kind of bores me, but the rest includes some good songs. EMR: 5/5

Ok, jaz not my style but no bad

Let me Roll it.

Started off well and progressed into “meh, decent”. Don’t think I’d listen again, not my jam. Band On The Run is a great track, though.

Честно сказать, неожиданно для меня, я оценил этот альбом больше предыдущего (вчерашнего) соло Леннона. Это всё равно не Битлз тем не менее. Лучшая песня - Band On The Run.

Its fine, i dont hate it. Not my cup of joe

This is a record I've listened to lots growing up. When I was younger I really thought it was great. Having been exposed to more of the Beatles and their off-shoot projects, I now longer rate it as highly, but still very enjoyable with a few classics that McCartney will have on any album he wrote (pre-2010).

A better album that I imagined. I’ve never been one for McCartney or the Beatles so it’s a bit of a treat to go in and listen and hear it all with new ears.

Expected more. Repetitive and average

This was fine, but nothing on it elevates it past slightly above average. I would rate this 3.5, but since that isn't available, then I guess this gets a 3.

Overall a good album, but man did it just have this neutered vibe. It always felt like it was going to go hard and be big and grandiose only to just slink back into the corner and softly play music hoping you'd like it. Everything felt timid and unassuming and that was frustrating to listen to.

Listened Before? N Pretty good stuff. I liked the general vibe here, although I felt like he was trying to be The Beatles without The Beatles. He did an okay job of that while also incidentally creating some good music. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Band On The Run

Rock-pop un tanto rollo. Ni fu ni fa.

staring at these four walls...

Highlights: Jet, Let Me Roll It. Title track should have been split, sounds like a prelude then the song we know kicks in. Picasso’s Last Words was ruined by the splicing of previous elements (eg Jet reprise). This listening experience was a mixed bag for me. The hits are hits, the misses are woeful. Overall: 5/10

Experimental yet likeable, but at the same time I feel like there’s something lacking, I didn’t feel anything unique about it. Band on the run is a classic, that is true, but the rest…

Well I liked this more than I thought I would but I’m still not a huge Paul McCartney fan!

Like if the Beatles did R&B

I'm finding it hard to articulate exactly why I don't like this album. It just doesn't do anything for me. It's depressing that one of the giants of 20th century music was essentially all washed up by age 30.

Not bad. Bit boring, but actually better than I expected given my general dislike of Beatle-y stuff.

Very competent if boring yacht rock album.

Favourite: Nineteen Hundred And Eighty Five (or Country Dreamer if the bonus ones count)

best = nineteen hundred and eighty five

A bit dull

It was fine

I've heard at least the singles from this album before, this isn't surprising. I think that the synth lead on the first track is a bit annoying. I think it would be fine in another context but the rest of the mix is a medium ballad with smooth pads and gentle singing. I'm blown away by how much Paul wrote. The second track, Jet, is much better than the first track. I love it. It highlights the talents that the other members of the band have. This is Paul's biggest downfall--that he is larger than life. But man I love his voice. This is one of the best Paul McCartney tracks that I've heard. Let Me Roll It strikes me as a very weak track. There are just some small things that prevent this track from succeeding, but the mix almost seems to zoom in on these flaws. The reverb on Paul's voice is almost a delay, and to me it shows that the producer has some really poor ideas how to use this effect. The wet is too clear, the delay period is strange, and the singing is not enhanced. The guitar riff is very piercing and gets irritating. Mamunia through the end of the album is much more enjoyable than the first half of the album. I'm especially happy when the other members of the band stand up. The structure of the album is a little strange. The album is somewhat short, and some of the songs are maybe a little too long. It seems that the album is at the 80% stage, but they haven't done the work to clean up the mess. Another critique-- Paul should know how to write an album that is more than just a collection of tracks. There is a loose theme between all the tracks and that is fine, but there is no sense of growth throughout the album. In this way this is a backslide--a regression to the early Beatles era. Those with sentimentality for this era will no doubt have harsh words for me, but the true artist never looks backwards.

Fun! McCartney might not be the king of pop, but he's like a duke.

Half if it's great The other half, not so much.

An album that sums up Paul McCartney - willing to throw anything at the wall and see what sticks. There’s highs and lows on this one - the opening 3 tracks are some of his best solo work, then it dips for a bit and picks up at the end.

Classic. It's no Beatles but Paul does his thing. Catchy, feel good

Music is not bad per say. But it's pretty unoriginal and feels more like a jam session with stoners too high to come up with good ideas.

I was not into this in 1973. Good music overall.

This guy is definitely a beatle (derogatory). Favourites: jet, mamunia. Overall just okay, it wasn't very memorable though. 3/5

Hmmm. The Beatles… the world class solidly crafted music and lyrics is practically impossible to follow up with anything. And it shows here. Actually not a bad album, but just not really exceptional. Where the Beatles were standing out, this is quite mainstream.

Paul McCartney, and it was fine. Not worth listening to before you die. All I really have to say.

Title track is great.

Schmaltzy pop with some good tracks. I've always wanted Wings to be better than they were.

The title track and Jet are classics and still pretty damn good. Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five was a nice surprise. The rest of the album is ok. Nothing stands out and not something I would listen to again. 3

Was a little disappointed that I didn't enjoy the first half of the album too much, but the second half is markedly better. Really though it just makes me want to listen to the Beatles, the solo works all feel incomplete to me. Top tracks: Let Me Roll It, Mamunia, Ninteen Hundred And Eighty Five

A bit of a mixed bag. Good, but not great. 7/10

Gut hörbare Radiomusik.

Really good post-Beatles Paul McCartney album. Band on the run is a classic, and I really liked all the changes, different parts that all flowed together, reminiscent of the Abbey Road Medley. Jet was also a hit at the time that I've definitely heard on classic rock radio more than a few times. Let me roll it is a great song as well. Overall a solid album

I liked this more than I thought I would. I’ve never been into the Beatles, and as a person, I don’t really like Paul McCartney. He certainly knows how to write a catchy pop song though. ‘Let me roll it’ is probably my favourite on this album, although the next track after that was garbage, so it has its ups and downs.

As expected, the album is slightly kooky and has a few bangers. His style is very identifiable

A handful of standouts but the rest doesn't live up to that level. I don't dislike it one bit but really nothing too special at the same time. 6/10

3.5, the title track does some cool progressions, starts out as a 70s am radio cri de coeur that is one of the album vibes throughout. Last two tracks and jet are my favorites on it.

perfectly alright

Had some good moments.

A fine McCartney album.

Ganz nett

Getting tired of all seeing every Beatles member's side project on this list. It's not bad, but it is not that good either.

Classic

Enjoyable background listen

#fridayrecords Apple Music notes: Recorded under less than ideal circumstances in Lagos, Nigeria after two key members quit, Band on the Run was Wings' make-or-break moment. The rough-and-ready studio sound adds some welcome grit on rockers like "Jet" and the affectionate John Lennon tribute "Let Me Roll It." Elsewhere, the title track is one of McCartney's most soaring multi-part pop masterpieces, and "Bluebird" is a tender acoustic love song. Quirkier material, like the playful "Mrs. Vandebilt" and "Picasso's Last Words (Drink To Me)," adds even more depth.

Mildly worried that this site will be overrun with white shmaltz.

Kinda catchy, doesn't do it for me like The Beatles

yeah not bad

not that interesting of an album but it’s ight

Decent but I'd vaguely had enough towards the end. Band on the Run and Mrs Vandebilt were my favourites. The man can write a song, that much is clear.

Thought this was decent, liked almost half of the tracks on the album but the rest were very meh. Highlights: Band On The Run Jet Mrs Vandebilt Nineteen Hundred And Eighty Five

Ok but not particularly exciting about sums it up for me I think. Band on the run is a good track. Jet and nineteen hundred and eighty five were good too. Think I can leave the rest. Shan't be back. 2.5

Great album, but some of Sir Paul's pop aesthetic is not what I'm looking for.

There are some good songs on this album but it’s not my favorite Beatles solo album.

Soft, easy listening, as expected from Mr. McCartney. The tunes are pleasant and the lyrics are well written. Not an every day listen for me, but I enjoyed this one.

Surprisingly i didn't get what i thought i was gonna from Paul McCartney, but overall nice experience. 3/5

For me, this album has always been overrated. My favourite track here is Let Me Roll It. By a wide margin. Picasso’s Last Words would have been a lot better at half the length. Jet, Helen Wheels & the title track are serviceable singles, without being earth-shattering. And I’m not at all enamoured with the remainder. I much prefer Paul’s first 2 solo albums to anything he’s done since. Fact is, Beatles’ fans knew by 1974 that the only Beatle with any hope of recording an album that might be up to Beatles’ standards was McCartney. Subsequently they loved this album more than it ever deserved to be admired. I mean, Bowie released Diamond Dogs around the same time - not his finest record, but a mile ahead of this (and Tony Visconti worked on both).

I like Paul McCartney’s solo music better than John Lennon’s. This album was good but not my favorite of his.

nett - aber für mich nix besonderes

Elements of excellence but not quite there for me

Some good songs here

I'll always prefer the Beatles catalogue over any of the solo records. It was nice to revisit this one though. 3.5

Yeah, okay.

A few popular songs that are only okay ... the album lacks the synergistic effect from John, George and Ringo.

Meandering with a purpose, enjoyed the guitar and layering, nice vocals

Pretty good.

2.5 I didn't like it as much as I thought I would. The First 2 songs were hirs back in my school days so I was very familiar with them, but I'd never heard the rest.

last song by far best song on the album

Surprisingly bad

Jaha. Man undrar verkligen vilka album som inte kommer få plats. Det här är inte dåligt. Men rätt generiskt.Några låtar är bra, nån ok, många jaja...

Tycker första halvan av skivan samt sista låten är bra, resten lite tråkigare. Stark trea.

Last track on the album, Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five surprised me. After the first 3 tracks I was not interested, and then 1985!

Excited for this one, I've been thinking I should get more familiar with Sir Paul's non-Beatles stuff. Listening to album in two parts going to and from an appointment Band on the Run is the only track I really know. But it's sooo good. Love the riff on Let Me Roll It. Guitar outro on No Words needs to go on longer. Positives: songs are constructed so well, McCartney has such a knack for surprising you with little choices he makes (not just on this album but very present here) love that many songs have such a variety of parts that work together so well. A crazy "pop" album that walls a thin line of experimentation and being fun to listen to Negatives: feels a bit uneven at times, not all the adventurous parts hit the same way. Band on the Run is the best track, and it loses a bit of momentum after Jet. Not always a fan of how the vocals are mixed in.

I wanted to like this a little bit more, but it just didn't seem to have the tempo for me.

10.1.24 A Banger.

I loved the Beatles, and was shocked when they broke up. I never could get into Paul’s music post-Beatles, though I bought this record and played the hell out of it. Glad he’s still out there playing, but a bit of a yawn for me.

Liked a few songs! Added to Spotify

SUFFER A JEFF - and I think we've *all* had to suffer a Jeff at some point in our lives. I once had to suffer a Jeff AND a Geoff at the same time. Aside from that, a perfectly pleasant if unspectacular slice of 70s AOR.

A lot of this is just easy-listening soothing sound to put on in the background. A lot of it feels like Beatles outtakes. "Mrs. Vandebilt" is a fun bouncy tune though.

A pleasant album. My favourite song would be ‘1985’. Long time since I listened in full. Thank you

Good album, but not really stand out from the genre or from the era that it comes from.

Bookstore music.

little bit boring - but nice to listen on the go. jet as the famous song

Listened to title track “Band on the Run.” I had heard this song before but didn’t realize who/what it was, always thought it said “man on the run.” A good vibe, like many songs I know from this time where it starts out one thing and transforms into something totally else. Not quite sure what to make of the lyrics.

Not a big fan of Wings

Paul is kind of a sleeper, but couple good tracks.

A couple of solid hits and a few clunkers.

It was pretty good. Music for a sunny summer day

Ah ha! Wings - only the band the Beatles could have been. The title track and Jet are perhaps McCartney's best know solo songs. The rest of the album is pretty nice and very well produced. It just seems a little safe to really capture the imagination. A double thumbs up or an album. Rating: 3.5/5 Playlist track: Band On The Run Date listened: 26/12/23

Erstes mir vorgeschlagenes Album. Der Musikstil trifft zwar nicht ganz meinen Geschmack, aber für mich persönlich sind die beiden Titel "Jet" und "Let Me Roll It" die stärksten des Albums.

See I preferred a lot of this to the Beatles, though it's very up and down. Title track, Mrs Vandebilt, Let Me Roll It are good. Jet, Bluebird are not.

Starts off well - the title track is fab - but not really any depth to it beyond that (with the honourable exception of Let Me Roll It, which sounds like a grown-up Beatles song). Does sound a bit more modern than 1973, I guess, but not by a lot. Scrapes a 3/5, I think. Definitely better than the other McCartney album we had.

It's good music, but not great music. Pleasant to listen to, but most of it won't stick with me. A 3.5/5.

Decent album. Always good listening to Paul McCartney.

The band the Beatles could have been

Didn't jump out and grab me but I liked the title song

Paulie set a high bar…. an impossible bar to hit without his Liverpool buddies His fault, not mine. Knowing this, I tried hard to assess this one objectively. The album starts off (meaning the first half of the single Band on the Run) so beautifully and touching, but then it arrives at just good. There’s nothing wrong with good. Good is good but this isn’t rest something I’ll be going back to anytime soon. At the same time, I probably won’t turn the station or skip the song if I come across it. Perhaps it’s the type of thing that grows on you. We’ll see.

Unsurprisingly, just like a less good The Beatles. A couple of good singles, but nothing that really inspires.

I had heard the song Band on the Run but the rest of the album was all new to me. It was just sort of medium to me. None of the songs made my socks roll up and down the songs were all very adroitly crafted and recorded. Great musicianship but not my favorite flavor.

Didn't think I'd know any songs on this album. But I've definitely heard the first one many times. Band on the Run. It's weird how The Beatles each went and did their own thing. It was okay. Some good stuff in there for sure but not more than 3 stars.

Love the title track! Nothing else really stuck with me

This was alright. I had heard the hits but not the whole thing. I do think there was some magic that the Beatles that just never materialized in any of the solo work. I know Wings had a rather popular Greatest Hits record years after this. It's just... It's just not the same.

I played Mrs. Vandebilt a good 10 times today, never heard it, loved it then it rolled into Let Me Roll With It which has a great little guitar riff. They weren’t all hits though, Jet was bad, Bluebird was ok I guess but were they really just going on about being birds that were blue, I didn’t sense anything deeper. Finished really strong with Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five. This impressed me more than expected 3.5 stars

Known before: Artist Standouts: 5. Let Me Roll It Rating: 5.0

Known before: Artist (Paul McCartney) Standouts: 04. Mrs Vandebilt Rating: 6.0

Feels like he is running out of ideas? The singles are 100% jams, but the rest just feels like parts of beatles songs that was never really flushed out. I think he thinks so too as he does a lot of reprises from the hits.

2.8/5 - I can appreciate he has had a dedicated following over the decades, but there's a reason only a handful of these songs have over 10 million listens.

Hard to discuss McCartney without discussing Lennon. Both musical geniuses who needed each other to bring out each others up strength and cover up for each others weaknesses. My favorite solo albums of any Beatle is from George Harrison. The start of this album doesn’t do it for me, but really like Mamunia, Mrs. vandebilt, and the final track

Ok but nothing special

good enough for a 4 but I feel like I just can’t give it 4. Another time I wish this was a X/10 situation

Honestly just thought it was a solid album. I love me some Paul but I wouldn’t listen to these songs a lot.

a good song, the rest is meh.

Wasn’t a fan

Pretty good, expected more wow

Celkom nuda, na to, ze to ma byt druhy najlepsi post-beatles album :(

When the Beatles split in 1970, each member had a whole new decade ahead of them to make music with. Since they practically defined the 60's, there were heavy expectations on how each Beatle would deliver in their solo efforts. Lennon would release the politically-conscious Imagine. Harrison had the heavy-hitting All Things Must Pass. Starr, I'm hesitant to bring up so we'll skip over him. McCartney would collaborate with his wife to make Ram, a classic by all means. Linda McCartney's inclusion would eventually grow into a whole band, and thus Wings were born in 1971. McCartney has always been the silliest Beatle. Some may argue that it's Starr, but it's always been the guy who wrote Maxwell's Silver Hammer. No doubt he's an excellent songwriter, but he's always been a bit silly with it. Band on the Run is no different. Not just the song, the whole album. I like a few of the songs, specifically Let Me Roll It and Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five. Others weren't much to write home about. I think the closer track captures a lot of what's distinctly interesting about the band, which is the more complex elements that break their songs from the mold. The rest of it feels kitschy, middling, uninspired. I prefer when McCartney gets bold with his songwriting. He's obviously very talented so why not makes things a bit more interesting? Temporary Secretary is not the end of the world.

vocals arent my thing, band on the run is ok, i hate that twisty instrument they have in every song.

Finally a decent album. Liked Bluebird best.

Some really great songs, but others are mediocre.

Fine, but not particularly memorable.

Ihanan 70-lukuisan tuhnuinen. Vahvaa tekemistä, mutta ilman vaaran tuntua. Isärokkia.

Band on the run!

This is a bit of my parent's music, but I enjoyed it.

I recognized most of the album. Had no idea those songs were what I had been hearing in films and various places all these years. Certainly great classic rock style music. I could never get into The Beatles and never once in my life listened to any of their songs on purpose. I can recognize that they're good songs; they just don't do anything for me. I suppose this album is about the same for me. I can have it going in the background while I work, but it's not something I'd bother to seek out.

It’s a pretty solid album. I liked the last song the best.

it must be cool to make an album with your wife, don't you think

Pretty good

Decent. Good groove.

It was pretty good at least from nostalgia

AJ: Band on the Run is great. Jet is ok. Let Me Roll It is a rompah. Best Beatle, really. “….all I need is a king today” If we ever get out of here. My dad wasn’t a big fan of Wings, so it’s a 3 instead of a 4

Listened Before? No Band on the Run is a cool enough song. Heard it a bunch of times, but always enjoy the changes in tempo. Jet is another radio hit whose chorus almost borders on disco. Deliberately fuzzy production; not my favorite song here. Bluebird sounds like a Beatles song with the harmonies and structure, but the addition of horns and percussion on support gives a lush vibe as if made for listening to in a resort setting. Let Me Roll It is my favorite song on here so far. Just a solid rock song centered around a repeating guitar riff. Nineteen Hundred And Eighty Five is another fun one. Nothing particularly revolutionary about it, but it has a certain hop about it that I enjoy. Reminds me in some ways of Quadrophenia-era The Who. Overall, I'm not wowed in any way by this album. There are certainly some high points, but there is nothing specifically magical about it. Standouts for me were Band On the Run, Let Me Roll It, and Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five. Otherwise, the songs were fine, but didn't really separate themselves in any significant way. Soft 3 / 5 Added to Library? No Songs Added to Playlists: -

Stealing Brandon's format here. Listened Before? No Starts off with two classics that I have known for a long time. Starts sounding like the most generic 70's rock for the middle and back end. It's like if AI created the Beatles. The piano on Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five is mighty catchy. This song was definitely my new highlight of this album. It brought some character to the album that was lacking throughout. This is an above average album because of the first 2 and last songs. But didn't blow me away by any means. Adding to library? Being a teenager in the late seventies this does bring back memories-especially of jerryrigging my stereo to record off the radio. the hits still seem fresh and the other songs are pleasant. i dont think this is his best post-beatles album but it still sounds good.

It wasn't terrible but I don't think I'd ever choose to play this. I get why people liked it but it seems like I had already heard all the songs even though I only recognized one. Definitely has his own style.

McCartney shows off his songwriting skills on some catchy pop songs. Band accompanying voice.

This is one I’ve heard many times, but never really listened to all the way through. Some of McCartney’s songs are a little too goofy for my taste, but he does have knack for catchy tunes. I forgot “like a wheel” was in this album, and the Picasso song has some fun translations and tie-ins with other songs on the album. I could have done without the last two songs.

Cool album. My first time hearing Band On The Run (song) was the cover done by Foo Fighters. I liked all the songs, but nothing really caught my attention.

The best Paul McCartney album yet. Still don't think he deserves 6 albums, so far, on the list.

Nice tunes, shit lyrics; whimsical but crap

Good background album, may favourite song on it was Nineteen Hundred And Eighty Five.

Prima, beetje saai

This was quite nice.

Forgot about 1985! Best song on the album. Ok for the lesser Beatle.

Favourite song: Mrs Vanderbilt/ Band On The Run Least Favourite song: Mamunia Rating: 5/10

2 great songs, 2 good songs, some filler, don’t understand why some songs sound like 2 or 3 different songs in one

Good album, not great

I expected much more.

meh, there are some okay singles here but knowing that paul is capable of writing and performing much more exciting songs with the beatles, this just doesn't cut the mustard. still the best of any ex-beatle's solo work, but that's not really saying much, is it? favorites: band on the run, bluebird

I listened to The Beatles quite a bit as a child, but I don't remember hearing any Paul McCartney and Wings songs until I was working Saturday afternoons at the campus radio station in college. "Jet" came up in the rotation during one of my shifts, and I really liked it; in fact, I'm pretty sure I downloaded it on Limewire later that week. However, this was my first time listening to this album. I thought that this was a good piece of seventies guitar rock. I really like Paul McCartney as a songwriter, and I enjoy his precise guitar playing too. The guitar playing that Paul showcased during his time with The Beatles was present here, as were some of the experimental elements introduced later in The Beatles' catalog. "Jet" was far and away my favorite song on the album; the vocals are fun, and the saxophone and synthesizer added some depth to the overall sound. The title track and "Nineteen Hundred and Eighty-Five" were really good too. As for the rest of the album, I found it to be just fine. There wasn't anything I hated, but nothing really set the world on fire either. Overall, this was a good album, and I think it carries some cultural importance as one of Paul McCartney's biggest commercial successes after The Beatles.

Band on the wrong sound like two unrelated songs stuck together. About 3 minutes in the title track and album should have started then! Picassso’s last words, has quite an interlude, very different. Reverb on some vocals sounds like he’s singing from a room out the back of the studio but that could be as I listened to the 2010 remastered album (maracas prominent on many tracks).

Very average sounding to me. Guess it's just not my style. Two songs definitely stood out to me. Those are "Band On The Run" and "Nineteen Hundred And Eighty Five".

It IS Paul McCartney so... It is a good melodies album. But it's not The Beatles anymore. Not so engaging and repeatable.

Let Me Roll It & Band on the Run standouts, rest is mid.

Very disjointed. Is it great? Is it terrible? Little bit of both.

Kinda boring. Best Mamunia 19 hundred 85

Scrolling through the reviews and seeing a lot of 5s for an album I thought was solidly average. I guess everyone has different tastes.

Not an all time heat album but some really great tracks on here and I wasn’t pleasantly surprised by it.

Bedre end forventet, men lidt meh. Kunne godt lide Picassos Last Words, som jeg er glad for at have fundet.

Relaxing

I think I’ve been predisposed to think that Wings are corny, which I found to be mostly true however 1985 and Helen Wheels were both excellent.

Good Album, i just don't go with that mood

A couple of fun upbeat songs on this one, but the rest is too chilled out for me. No edge or excitement to be found on some of these tracks. Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five saved the whole thing for me, the record ended on a banger. But the middle kinda fell flat. But still, props to McCartney for staying an active artist after the Beatles and trying different musical directions.

by process of elimination I can rule out Paul McCartney from being the bad part of Beatles

Band on the Run starts strong with “Band on the Run” and “Jet,” but the rest of the album feels average for McCartney. Could have been a 4★, but lands at 3★.

never really been a fan of the beatles, and i think that continues into not being a fan of most of paul mccartneys post-beatles work. but this is fine. just not greatly interesting. fav songs: band on the run, bluebird, country dreamer.

Solid album, just not my favorite.

6/10. Band on the Run is a delightful song, I hadn't heard Picasso's last words in a while, but the rest of the album was pretty forgettable. Maybe worth a 7/10.

Liked first song (band on the run) rest was just okay

Best Song: Band On The Run. Even though it seems like it takes forever for the song to start, it has the best and most iconic chorus. Worst Song: Mamunia. Just a boring little ballad. Overall: Paul's songwriting - and more specifically his guitar playing - are nice here. Nothing outstanding, nothing altogether very interesting, but listenable. For times when you want Diet Beatles.

It has good songs and was a chill morning listen, but not something I would routinely revisit. 6/10

Jepa rockia. Band on the run, Mrs Vanderbeilt ja Let Me Roll It oli kyllä ihan meneviä

Weak three. Honestly...not many good songs on this album. Maybe three? Goes to show that the sum of the beatles was greater than their parts.

Only enjoyed the last song. Just a boring album. The softest of 3s

Not a bad pop-rock album. Some of the songs are a bit long.

Band on the Run opens with the worst promised by its context and then rescues the concept by stretching the title track out. Paul's whimsy obtains in multi-movement form, and if the album doesn't make me a fan it does lightly delight.

Ehhhhh worse bestled

Good one but not gonna be my favorite

i love the title track, jet, and 1985, but the rest is sooooooooo boring. paul youre better than this.

Some very good moments, solid but not really crossing the line for me

-Could pass for a late Beatles album -good if doing something(background) not great if sat still -fav song:let me roll it/1985

As much as I love Paul McCartney's songs in the Beatles I am not as in love with his solo stuff. This album has some high highs which is why I am giving it a 3/5 but I just really can't get into the Linda McCartney stuff in here. Favorite Song - Band on the Run, Jet Least Favorite Song - Bluebird No Skip Album? - No

Some great tunes on here. Very much a McCartney record. Doesn't quite have the heart of his self titled solo album and only Band on the Run, Jet, Ret Me Roll It, and 1985 have staying power. Overall a fine record

I inherited this album on vinyl and haven’t had the chance to listen to it, so it was the perfect opportunity. Lots of great songs if you’re feeling the 60s/70s vibe. Listen again: probably Purchase for my collection: own it Favourite Song: Mrs. Vandebilt

I like this album. A lot of old memories.

Kinda mellow but I dug it

I can’t explain it, but I was sort of dreading listening to this one. I’m a Beatles fan, but not a solo McCartney fan. That said, in the end the album was not as painful as I expected. It was mostly pleasing. And I’m also glad to move on.

“My heart is like a wheel. Let me roll it to ya” I am a self-professed Paul McCartney hater, because he’s added so many cringe inducing, emotionally void novelty songs (Hey Jude, Good Day Sunshine, Ob-La-Di) to otherwise brilliant albums (and even within songs, like Day in the Life…). There is some immunity to taste especially lyrics in most of his work, even the good bits. Nonetheless he’s also written some absolute bangers, he is a great bassist and this album is absolutely nuts. Fav track: Band on the Run

Only really ever heard jet and band on the run before but the other songs were good too . It’s probably a 2.5 but rating higher

Some mediocrity, some gems

Almost a 4, I just found it a bit boring. First and last song are the best

Found it mostly different to The Beatles aside from a few similarities. I found it pretty enjoyable, especially Let Me Roll It. Strong 3 stars, nearly 4.

It has one very good song, one good song, and the rest is decent. If this weren'r put out by an ex-Beatle, it wouldn't get much attention.

a few hits

I recognize some songs from the album. Paul McCartney is a great producer but I feel that his solo work is just OK compared to The Beatles. He's also really good at writing songs with others but this album with Wings is alright and McCartney has done better songs.

lagos. who knew?

I enjoyed. They are a Christmas band in my eyes though 😂

It's fine. Never been a big Paul fan.

Fucking incredible opening and closing tracks, but the middle is mostly unmemorable. Cool rock tunes, but nothing special.

Band on the Run is a mixed bag. It's best songs are great and it's lesser songs, mediocre to outright bad. The title track and it's immediate followup, Jet, are amazing tracks - probably some of the best of McCartney's solo work or with Wings. Helen Wheels, Let Me Roll It, Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five are good but a little pedestrian. Bluebird sounds like a Beatles reject from the White Album, and Mrs. Vanderbilt, Picasso's Last Words, and Mamunia are just stupid. Overall, it's an album worth listening to on Spotify and I'm glad to have original vinyl. Would I suggest spending a lot of money on a CD or vinyl reissue? Nope. Of course, McCartney/Wings albums are always uneven. Listen to the Wings at the Speed of Sound if you doubt that. If you are a fan, seek out a cheap copy of the original vinyl or just listen to it on the streaming service of your choice.

I was quite excited for this album, as I think Paul is the most talented of the Beatles. I am sad to say that I was underwhelmed and disappointed with this one. I may give it another listen in the future, but there wasn't anything that drew me into the music, like his other countless hits. Even the most known track didn't live up to the hype that I used to think of it. "Let It Roll" was my favorite song.

3/5, not my genre but the titular Band on the Run is very snazzy. It's comfortable music that's pleasing to the ears, but I wouldn't listen to it again

A few toe tappers here and an undeniably solid band but lacks that special something. How can Paul compete against the best band of all time?

This is Paul's best album. Side 1 is decent and I might actually listen to it every 10 years or so. Side 2 is back to normal Paul stuff filled with a mix of his trademark weenie songs and other tunes with insipid lyrics. Let's start with the positive: Band on the Run is a great song. Yup I'll give credit where it's due; Paul hit one out of the park. Denny Laine adds a great opening riff and another good riff while the chorus (? song title) is repeated. The strumming and bass playing interchange throughout keeps the song moving nicely. Jet is also a good tune but the lyrics are from the bargain basement bin where we expect to find Paul. Bluebird is a nice tune but the song's title makes it a letdown. Paul's song Blackbird was a good anti-racism song, even though the message was cryptic. The similarity of the two bird songs' names makes me expect more. The tune is good but lyrically it's another of Paul's hotdog songs. Let me Roll It is a good tune with a good riff. Paul uses the same ruffian (or sore throat) vocals he used in Oh Darling which I quite like. Side 2 is a dud. 1985 is a cool tune but the lyrics are weak. He can't even come up with lyrics for the bridge so instead just does a WOOOOOOOOOO.

A couple of enjoyable tracks (Band on the Run, Picasso's Last Words), but overall just really really dull.
