Like i said, the rolling stones are cool

copado pero le falta kk

Two Rolling stones albums in a row. I feel wronged. Everytime I hear Sypathy For The Devil I think about that one scene in Dreamcatcher by Stephen King (book) as they are destroying shipwrecked ufo with military helicopters and this song is playing and they didn't put it in the movie and I was so dissapointed when I found out. I know they are british band but this album sounds totally American.

A good album. It is a British interpretation of multiple American musical influences. It's kind of a hodge podge, but only 2 songs really stand out, and "Sympathy" is the only song in the Stone's top 10. Pitchfork: n/a Rolling Stone: Top 500 Albums #185 Best Songs Sympathy For The Devil Street Fighting Man

Me gustó mucho!

19/02/2026 1. sympathy for the devil - already know this one, but only vaguely... can tell the master and margarita inspiration! woo woo. liking the guitar solo. like the bass as well. liked it, but a bit long. *2. no expectations - acoustic... very country slide guitar. bass is really nice. piano is really sweet <3 love the humming at the end.... 3. dear doctor - alright :) so far, this album is a lot more country than i expected! still like it though. 4. parachute woman - very bluesy. really reminds me of jean jeanie... but that might just be the blues.... really liking the electric guitar and the harmonica... morricone vibes.... *5. jig-saw puzzle - guitar at the beginning is fantastic! bass great! drums great! slide guitar again! piano is real nice as well... *6. street fighting man - already know this one from fantastic mr fox lol. more rockier than the rest of this album so far... love how overwhelming it all gets. wall of sound my beloved <3 7. prodigal son - back to country/folk/blues. very bob dylan. guessing it's based on the parable? *8. stray cat blues - love the drumming... bass is great. rockier again :) eeee bit noncey??? really great song if you ignore that one lyric! guitar solo towards the end is killer.... 9. factory girl - alright, but probably my least favourite from the album so far. only one song left though! 10. salt of the earth - different vocals? bass is really nice. liked the ending. alright, was expecting a more rock sound, although i still enjoyed the country and blues - the slide guitar was immense! - my favourite songs were the more straight rocknroll ones. from looking at the other albums/singles, most of the songs i seem to like are their early-mid 60s singles, so looking forward to their earlier albums popping up on the generator!

a good time! haven’t listened to the stones in a long time. had fun

Preferred the softer, calmer "No Expectations" to "Sympathy for the Devil" and preferred that still to "Dear Doctor". Loved the guitar and the lyrics of "Jigsaw Puzzle" - didn't expect to like such a long song. Absolutely hated "Prodigal Son" - the out-of-tune-sounding guitar, the awful vocals, the mumbling noise.

A couple of good hits but I could never understand why some simple lads from England want to sound like a swamp band from the Deep South. The piano player was good at least. Keith was good as always.

3 stars for this - 1 star each for Sympathy For The Devil, 1 for Street Fighting Man, and a half each for Stray Cat Blues and Salt of the Earth. The rest sounds like some half-baked, half-arsed demos which they made whilst pissed. Disappointing from supposedly one of the biggest bands of the era.

Good one

Starts with one of the greatest songs ever but fades from there. Still a good record, but not one of the Stones best.

"Beggars can't be choosers" - archible 2026 - Wayne Gretzky

3/5 is low ik, but i dont think its a 4/5 tho. id give it more 7/10. i liked this, it was vibey. i wouldnt mind giving this another listen.

This one is good, but not great. There are some all time Stones songs here. Don’t sleep on No Expectations. But the overall impact of the album as a whole is that it drags. If Let it Bleed is rock and roll excess, this one sounds more like a hangover record.

It's a Stones album. Couple great songs and the rest is just standard.

6 out of 10. 3 points each for "Sympathy for the Devil" and "Street Fighting Man" everything else was a little too folk rock, which just isn't my jam. But when they get syncopated like the aforementioned tracks, it tickles my brain so good.

Liked: Sympathy For The Devil, Jigsaw Puzzle, Salt Of The Earth Disliked: Added:

‘Sympathy Devil For The Devil’ has and will always be a song I regard as one of the best ever created. So many layers to it, so creative and sounds so tidy despite its chaos. I love how it’s been used in cinema. The only issue with opening an album with such a a great track is that the album might take a nose dive straight after and I’m afraid that’s how I feel about Beggars Banquet. The music is far from bad but it definitely goes stale and I do feel like there is a more than a few filler tracks before ending really strong, but that’s just a personal opinion. It’s fun to hear Richard’s and Jaggers experimental aspects of the record come out, regardless of whether they’re good to listen to. It’s certainly more fulfilling than hearing them do blues covers anyway. Favourite tracks are: ‘Sympathy For The Devil’, ‘Jigsaw Puzzle’, ‘Factory Girl’, ‘Stray Cat Blues’, and ‘Salt Of The Earth’.

Heard Before? Yes. Notes: - unremarkable production that perfectly suits the material. - lots of fun percussion parts. - great piano work - my favorite part. - someone needs to make a rap song from the outro of "Stray Cat Blues". - I would watch an animated video for "Street Fighting Man" where the band was played by characters from Street Fighter 2. Verdict: An excellent rock and roll album about which I have no feelings. Listen Again? Not on purpose.

not amazing, not terrible. i do like how many different inspirations you can hear on here but this also didn’t exactly blow me away

not bad but doesn't really do it for me

Album 103. Beggars Banquet (https://open.spotify.com/album/5WZFtmADuJUZPtt0NER0Qi?si=x2aM7VrcQ1atYB5V7pMYbA)— The Rolling Stones (1968) I like The Rolling Stones, I had Sympathy For The Devil in my playlist. But I don't know somehow I didn't catch anything truly interesting and exciting from the album. I'm surprised in a bad way. It was super comfortable listen, especially as background music, zero negative thoughts about the music, but I was indifferent. The blues-rock in this album is majestic. It's so classic and exactly what I like so much. It could easily be 4 out of 5, but no, something went wrong. Maybe too good technically, but not enough emotionally. Maybe I need to relisten to it later, I don't really know. I just know one thing — it's a mystery album today. 3/5 Liked songs: — Sympathy For The Devil

40% truly great, 50% average blues with an annoying fake American voice, 10% a bit paedo.

The Stones are one of those bands, like Zeppelin, that I don’t really “get” As always there’s a couple of absolute bangers on here and a lot of filler, jamming in the studio stuff! Still one of their better efforts.

An average R. Stones album.

Started off a lot stronger than it finished. Maybe 6/10

So, not a bad album overall. I can see myself coming back to it a little bit, but I'm not like super impressed by it. it's okay/good. My favorite song was probably "No Expectations" and "Salt of The Earth". "Stray Cat Blues" is a really really fucked up song and it made me debate giving this a 2

Not the worst. That fucking woo woo though.

Much more Blues than rock and roll. Some of it fairly standard, some of it really well done. Not revolutionary, nothing mind-blowing, but really good. Sympathy For the Devil is the obvious exception, a perfect rock song that is just as good today as it was then. Also Jigsaw Puzzle, Factory Girl and Salt of the Earth were very good as well. Overall I didn't hate any of it, and I would listen to it again, which for an album is high praise for me.

I wasn't familiar with their music enough, this album seemed average to me, I don't see anything special. Rate 6/10

Before: The Stones! I do like them but they're not my favorite band from that era. I was five when this came out so it's a little before my time. The first track Sympathy For The Devil is one my favorites from 1968. I have it ranked 36 out of 109 from that year. It's hard to believe they had already released 13 albums (9 studio) prior to this one. During: Five songs in now, I'm thinking 3 stars. "Street Fighting Man", I decide to add to my 1968 playlist. I didn't recognize the name but do know this song and like it enough to add to the list, but I think there is a better version of it out there. I'll need to research that. After: Yep, it's a three. I don't know why it's on the list, especially since there are 5 other Stones album here. The best thing about this album is it shares the same name as one of my favorite music labels.

Loved the album but I was left wanting more! Overall great listen to solid Rolling Stones.

Sympathy for the Devil - fun, but not my favourite, controversial lyrics No Expectations - favourite song, very nice melody, good lyrics Dear Doctor - no clear structure or recognisable melody, bad lyrics Parachute Woman - worst song on the album, horrible lyrics, way too repetitive, no vocal range, anyone could sing it Jigsaw Puzzle - somewhat repetitive but still fun to listen to, interesting and coherent lyrics Street Fighting Man - same as above, better lyrics Prodigal Son - one of my favourites, nice melody, fun to listen to Stray Cat Blues - also a good song, motivating effect, makes you feel like you’re in a western tv show/movie getaway car scene Factory Girl - second least favourite song, misogynistic lyrics Salt Of The Earth - very cool lyrics, important message, second most favourite song

I found this really boring. Nothing really stands out and I don’t really understand why this is so acclaimed. Even Sympathy For The Devil has always kind of annoyed me. Compared to some of the other rock music being released around this time this album is very average in my opinion.

typical stones. good songwriting, good composition, good intentions. but disappointingly none of the songs hit me like they should. it is more like the representative of the era. would definitely listen though

Only knew sympathy off this one going in but was pleasantly surprised by the exploration by the stones here, all sounded really nice and unique for the times

Sounds a bit more acoustic than some other Rolling Stones albums

I’m not really the biggest fan of this genre but the album wasnt bad. I also think I should have listened to it on a vinyl because listening to it with headphones wasn’t the best idea

Enjoyed but not obsessed

Eclectic rock mix. Sympathy for the Devil still sounds fresh today with interesting percussion, backing vocals and piano driven groove. Mix is good. Other tracks have deep south/delta blues style. Style does get predictable after a few tracks.. Lyrics of Stray Cat Blues are pretty nasty.. Factory Girl has nice almost folksy instrumentals. Album ends on a gospel inspired section which is nice. Best track - Sympathy for the Devil, Prodigal Son, Factory Girl 3 stars

Probably my favourite of the Stones' albums to appear so far. It's a bit samey and one paced, but I like that it feels a bit less ... pompous?

i have no thoughts on this album whatsoever

I really like the first song but they kind of lost me after that one.

I must admit I don't really know that many rolling stones songs bit I really liked the blues influence this had and the mix of different genres

Høres ut som The Rolling Stones ja.

Ganske nice. Noen litt kjedeligere låter, men liker det godt nok jevnt over. 3/5

Likte det, blir nok høyrt igjen.

This album didn’t stand out to me - it was simply just fine… not one of their best works. I will say though that I do have a certain fondness for Street Fighting Man thanks to Fantastic Mr. Fox.

In a very fitting coincidence, the first Stone album I received is the first one of their "imperial phase". This is a lopsided one, as the first half is almost perfect in its songs and pace, but the second half quickly loses its steam. A third star rating seems adequate.

I just love sympathy for the devil. It's such a clever song. no expectations is okay, a bit slow. Dear Doctor is not up my ally - not my sort of country Parachute woman - whatever? weird country Jigsaw Puzzle --> I like it! Interesting sounds Street fighting man --> classic, love the guitar Prodigal Son --> Weird country again Stray cat blues -->good rock Factory girl -->an irish song??? Salf of the earth --> whatever

All started to sound the same by the end, but still a good album

Not my taste

Classic!

Good album. I liked it. Sympathy for the devil is a classic.

I like some of the other albums by the Stones a little more but this is still a good one! Sympathy for the devil is classic, parachute woman has some country twang to it, so that’s fun!

Favorite track(s): Sympathy for the Devil, No Expectations, Street Fighting Man Heard before Previous rating: 7/10

3.5/5 - I can see how this album could have been provocative in its time period, and even now. For me it’s just…meh. Like it’s kinda like stock music in a way. Non-offensive, enjoyable, but nothing memorable for me. But maybe this sentiment is due to a lot of artists taking inspiration from TRS.

6/10… brit rock / bluesy / *1968

Okay, this was much better than the previous album I had, 'Sticky Fingers'. I was actually surprised how much I enjoyed this one. Still not something I'd listen to on the regular, but pretty cool. Favourite tracks: Sympathy For The Devil, Dear Doctor, Jigsaw Puzzle, Prodigal Son, Salt Of The Earth.

Rolling Stones are a ubiquitous band and so I expected that I’d be familiar with almost all of these tracks, but, having never before chosen to listen to any Stones albums top to bottom before, outside the opening track ‘Sympathy for the Devil’ I hadn’t heard any before. Great stereo mix in headphones, maybe a remastered album as sound has really nice depth for a record produced in 1968. The ‘liveness’ of the band really comes through in the recording, a sense of play and improvisation in the moment, and you can tune in to each of the performances and pick out piano, guitar, bass, drum lines and hear the personalities iof the musicians in the band . I wasn’t expecting to enjoy Jagger’s vocals as much as I did. I listened to the first three tracks with keen interest, but then realised that I’d let it recede into the background while I got on with my morning. I listened several times more and each time the same thing happened - I’d listen closely for bit and then just let it fall back and play through. For that reason, I’ll give theis one a 3. I’ll definitely look out more Rolling Stones, but more to expand my knowledge of this culturally significant band, than by being set on fire by it. Total tracks 10 Fave track #3? Flagged: opening trax

Going into this album, I wasn't entirely sure what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I ended up enjoying it. While the band’s album name might suggest one thing, the music itself is impressively melodic and packed with catchy hooks that stay with you long after the tracks end; more of a rich mans banquet if you will. The balance between the energy of the performances and the accessible songwriting makes it a very easy and enjoyable listen. It’s a solid project that delivers more than I initially anticipated. I listened to a few songs multiple times! Favorite songs - Stray cat blues Salt of the earth Rating 1-5 ~ 3

Beggars Banquet blends blues-rock swagger with flashes of political bite and catchy melodies, but only a handful of tracks truly stand out.

Wenig Rock, viel Blues

Finding it a bit stark how many 60s 70s British bands were thieving music from black America. Again, a lot sounds pastiche / inauthentic. But it’s not all bad

Good album. Some dull bog standard blues pulls the score down

it is oke not realy my cup of tea

As far as the Stones go I never really got into them. That is to say, I have always liked some songs, but never felt the need to really dig into their album (I have heard some I think). So, not going into this with any particular exictement, I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Of course Sympathy For The Devil is a great song. But besides that, Jigsaw Puzzle, Street Fighting Man and Salt Of The Earth are all pretty good as well. Nevertheless, I do still feel like as an album it is lacking a bit in consistency. Solid effort though.

A classic alright... not crazy about the blues

classic folk sound i like the guitars and the western and psychedelic feeling the album is carrying. very on the road songs an it gives me country rock vibes. love the harmonica all throughout the songs. not a type of album i’d give a full listen again but there are some songs i liked for example jig-saw puzzle - stray cat blues

Solid. But I prefer exile

Blues rock from the 60s. I don’t mind the Stones in small doses

Some good songs and a lot of faff, typical Rolling Stones

3a från mig och 2a från pappa. Vi föredrar Beatles!

Really fun. Really like stray cat blues

I don't think Mick Jagger's vocals were ever meant for country rock, honestly. That's why I knocked it lower. This period is interesting because it marks The Rolling Stones ultimate transition into being *the* rock band as The Beatles were breaking up, and you can see how they were inspiring each other too. This was also released a few days before The Rolling Stones Rock N Roll Circus which is, in my opinion, their best live performance. I don't believe this album showcases much of their talent well, but it is picked up by Sympathy for the Devil, Parachute Woman, Jigsaw Puzzle and Street Fighting Man.

good but ikd i dont like it

My father has always maintained that had I been alive in the 60s I would have been a Stones fan and not a Beatles fan. He's probably right.

Just good, not quite memorable

wasn’t a fan but appreciate how influential it was

Old album of stone. Great songs for remember the old style of stones.

Good stuff

heard sympathy for the devil before, had no idea it was the rolling stones. overall okay. top song: no expectations

It’s alright but this project has really taught me that I like songs by the stones but the albums are mostly a sea of meh

6/10 - Not relatable, and feels disconnected from the message

Instrumentals are great. Love the stories that unfold.

i didnt really like it but it was ok

I listen to rock though but this album mostly has some kind of folk genre in it. Uplifting, engaging but i don't think it's something in my cup of tea. Maybe i need to give it more listening.

Началось

a great start to this challenge! did not expect to like it so much bc #1 it’s old and i’m not #2 i’m usually a pop girly my favs were prodigal son and stray cat blues 🫶🏻

Definitely need the second listen

Not too shabby

a good mixture of rock/ blues and country in a way. really enjoyed the instrumentals. my favorite songs were mostly the acoustic songs.

It was fine, nothing stood out for me other than the creepy lyrics

Gubbrocks-extravaganza! Måste tyvärr dela ut ännu en trea.

bättre än aftermath men fortfarande mid (förutom street fighting man, banger!)

Stark trea!

The album was fine, nothing more. I knew 1-2 songs from the album already, but I was surprised by how dull the music was, especially considering they were pretty far into their career at this point.

i don’t know what i thought the rolling stones would sound like, but this isn’t it. still a solid album favorite song: salt of the earth least favorite song: no expectations

When I was a lad you were either a Beatles fan or a Rolling Stones fan. Certainly in my circle I knew of no one who appreciated both. As a Beatles fan I largely ignored Rolling Stones albums but of course I knew of their big hits. I have largely continued through life with this attitude. One of the great bands of all time but not necessarily one I got excited about. So listening to this album in full was a new experience. I cannot deny that Sympathy For The Devil and Street Fighting Man are great songs but which I know well. These songs are both on the rockier side and if the album was full of these it would be a classic. What lets it down are the countryfide songs which are really awful and perhaps this style of music the Stones play are the reason why I can take or leave them. 3/5 21/12/25

Initial thoughts: Not sure how I expected it to start but the hand drums and other background percussion were surprising Track 1: Cute background vocals and I like the piano. I liked how upbeat it was. Cool ass guitar solo wish it was longer Track 2: Big switch in the vibe from before it's a lot more chill. Love the twang from the guitar and the lyrics hit hard Track 6: Cool lyrics I like the political references. Feels pretty repetitive but nice and upbeat Track 9: I like the rhythm a lot. It sounds like it would be in the movie Fantastic Mr. Fox. Fun twang again and not too long. Final thoughts: I like how the titles and song lyrics tell a story throughout the album. Pretty good instrumentals and okay vocals. Not sure I would listen to most of it regularly but definitely a fun listen.

carried, carried, and carried by Sympathy For the Devil. the rest is alright but far from the best work the Stones put out. an important step in the right direction but a bit dull as a full album. deserves to be one of the 1001? it has a case but i would skip probably

A good album, but marred by some serious cultural appropriation. My Appalachian culture is not your costume, Mick! Just kidding, but I will now consider every fake British accent heard in American rock (looking at you Billie Joe Armstrong) to be payback for the fake Southern accents unleashed on the world by Beggars Banquet. This is another album that I’ve heard about since I became conscious of all-time album rankings. It’s undeniably good, but outside of the songs listed below, especially the hits “Sympathy for the Devil” and “Street Fighting Man,” one that I won’t return to regularly. Songs added to the playlist: Sympathy for the Devil No Expectations Jigsaw Puzzle Street Fighting Man

I love the Stones, but they can do better than this

A ballad, like Bob Dylan, but the music and singing is not as dissonant. 3/5

Really not my thing... 5.1/10

Starts off strong and has lots of good songs.

i really love the song no expectations. some others are really good too but not all of them touched me on a deeper level

One step closer to the true Stones classic albums, but not quite there yet. At its heights, Sympathy for the Devil - No Expectations - Street Fighting Man, Beggars Banquet comes close, but falls short of what’s to come later. The country tunes are on the edge of getting there and over the next few years the Stones will perfect it, but they aren’t quite there yet.

I can hear the class, probably a masterpiece for blues-rock lovers. Not for me. Altough I did enjoy it

How did they get that photo of my bathroom? Can't really stand the harder blues stuff like Dear Doctor, Prodigal Son etc. Rockier stuff like Sympathy... and Street Fighting Man is great though.

Wow, what a strong start to the album for it to really come down tumbling hard for the rest of it. Interesting to have The Faces yesterday, and then Rolling Stones today, as Ron Wood moved from the Small Faces to the Rolling Stones in the early seventie's. IYKYK

I've already listened to his album (41). The Stones were not quite there yet.

While not my personal choice in sound, obviously crafted well and could see myself returning at a later date. “Sympathy For The Devil” is the obvious standout, with killer guitar and a unique perspective. Also appreciated was Salt Of The Earth, no better way to close an album than connecting with the people who are listening.

Love the Stones. This album is just ok.

I liked the upbeat tone. The banjo(?) was very fun and had good play. However the mixing was outdated and the vocals were too quiet. The vocals also had some low points. Many of the songs blended together. I liked Factory Girl and Salt of the Earth.

i dont realy like mick's voice

A few unique bangers, and a bunch of average ripped-off American blues. Decent performances though. Essential? Maybe the bangers, not the album.

Pretty good, but a little shrill. Hightlights: Sympathy for the Devil Jigsaw Puzzle

It's alright. Starts off with their best song.

Got to witness a fight to street fighting man today. Pretty cool but the fight was kinda trash. Got to get out of this private school man! The album is pretty good with some solid material. Debating if this is high 70s or a low 80? Ima have to go 79 because there was a few weak songs in here.

Overall listening experience: 6.8/10 Favorite song: No Expectations

I like this one. Not super amazing. 3 stars

Sympathy for the devil is a fantastic song but I didn't love the rest of the album. Street fighting man sounded familiar.

Trying to expand my rock and roll horizons. This one was an enjoyable mix of hits and some deeper cuts (at least to me). Listened through twice while working and nothing jumped out at me in particular

You're a Stones guy or a Beatles guy... ...and I am a Beatles guy. "Sympathy" is a great opening, though

Sympathy for the Devil is one of the best songs ever and stand out on this album. Preferred the songs that were more rocky on this. A lot of weird kind of folksy stuff that I wasn’t really a fan of

Didn’t enjoy this as much as I hoped but still some classics in there 6/10

The first time I heard Sympathy for the Devil was on Interview with a Vampire. Fuck I love that movie. I like the blues sound in Parachute Woman. Meh, 3 stars. Oooh some more good blues on Prodigal son.

This is a good record, but I just think it’s comparatively weaker next to a Sticky Fingers or Let It Bleed. Sympathy For The Devil is an all timer, but some of tracks in the middle are just a little weaker. The piano rocker that is Salt Of The Earth really closes out the album strong. Favorite songs are Sympathy For The Devil, No Expectations, Street Fighting Man, and Salt Of The Earth.

Sympathy for the Devil is ALWAYS a win.

Love the first track

lots of great tracks, including a couple of top tier songs. A keeper, minus the country tinged songs

There are a couple of great ones on here, but it’s definitely not my favourite Rolling Stones album. Too much honky tonky

I’m sure the Stone’s would have been quite happy with this more bluesy and world music influences that outlined this album. This is more consistently better then some of the other Stones albums I have listened to without the major hits that lay within. The first three songs are definitely the highlight of the album.

A pretty good album overall. “Sympathy for the Devil” is clearly the standout, and opening with it sets the bar so high that the rest can feel a little underwhelming by comparison. Still, nothing here is bad—it just never quite reaches that opening peak again.

Another "that one song everyone knows, and also a bunch of others" album for me, but it's a good listen.

The Stones... having heard quite a few of their albums before starting this challenge, I can't say I'm a big fan, or that I understand exactly why they're so revered. I get that they offered a counterpoint to The Beatles, but they feel like such a mish-mash of everything that had come before them. If somebody did something they enjoyed, you could be sure they would nick that idea. It was blatant, and they couldn't do much with those ideas beyond adding a dirty blues riff. It's a personal shame because, after loving The Beatles, The Who, Floyd, Zep, etc in my youth, The Stones were my remaining huge gap - surely I'd love them too. But no. Too limited in their sound, too samey, and whatever raw edge and energy they exuded back in the day - it's lost now via the studio and via the passage of time. That's not to say they don't have some great songs. This album has a couple. But they don't strike me as an albums band. They're a greatest hits band. And they have some great hits. So, as always, nothing bad here, just nowhere near enough to deserve higher than three stars.

This is #day476 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and… here's to my second Stones record on the list, aka their breakthrough one, or so they say. I'm kind of fine with it, but I'd honestly rather listen to something like its predecessor, Their Satanic Majestic Request, which is more experimental and therefore more interesting to me, or It's Only Rock 'n' Roll, which has probably my favorite Stones track, "Time Waits for No One." Anyway, I didn't know the "toilet" cover was rejected for the original LP but used on later reissues. "Sympathy for the Devil" and "Street Fighting Man" are the standouts and classic rock all-timers. I'm landing on a 3 out of 5. Looking forward to #day477.

Good not great Stones album. Judging them a little harder but when you're a top 5 band that comes with the territory. I liked hearing bangers like "Sympathy for the Devil" and "Street Fighting Man" but the rest of it sounded a little hokey, country to me. I might unlock a deeper appreciation after a bunch more listens but can use my ear-time better.

Very fun album, used to listen to them when I was younger because of my mother. That being said, I've heard it and every other album aping it (to different extents) before. 7/10

Rating: 5/10 I like it less than Let It Bleed, which at least had some extra highlights for me outside of the main big songs. Maybe the next one will get me, hopefully it’s next year instead of next week

fine but not my thing 5/10

We get it, it's the stones. 6 Gaias out of 10 lizard wizards

Some classics, and also some gross stuff (TW: underage sex 🤢and white man blues).

not their best

English chaps pretending to be black. Decent effort. 3.25/5

Decent. Stray Cat Blues is seriously cringe. 3.5/5

Pleasant listening. Groovy, with lots of blues and folk influence. Some songs I skipped if Mick's singing was in no consequences territory.

I say this every time the Generator gives me a Stones album, but I’m never going to be a fan of Mick’s not-so-musical vocals. But I really appreciate how the band emphasized (returned to) roots-y sounds on Beggars. It’s an enjoyable album. “Street Fighting Man” is quite good (even if it’s not as roots-y or blues-y as most of the tracks).

Fav tracks: Sympathy for the devil Stray cat blues Salt of the Earth 3 is a bit low I know, I'd need more time with it, 3 1/2

I don't quite understand why this album gets as much hate as it does. Sure, compared to there other work it feels a bit.. Unfinished, or sloppy. But I felt like there still some fun parts throughout.

Full disclosure - I'm not a Stones fan. Never have been. A few early singles aside, I've never seen the attraction. As far as Beggars Banquet is concerned, there's 2 tracks you're likely familiar with and that's because they're good (if not better than good). The rest, not so much. I always had the feeling the Stones were trying to be something they weren't. This album would support that hypothesis.

Sympathy is a classic and the rest just kind of rolled into standard Stones fare. Not bad but not as dynamic as some of their other albums. Probably a great album in a historical sense, but from what I've read, this is the album where the Stones kind of figured out the honky-tonk swagger rock kind of thing, and they were certainly still figuring it out.

Two good songs on this one, that is it.

6/10 - typical Rolling Stones sound

Just having ‘Sympathy for the Devil’ on here (and as the opening track) put this album’s floor at a 3. Unfortunately, to paraphrase Michael Jordan, the floor is the ceiling. Wayyyy too much country influence on the rest of the tracks for my liking, and they became quite repetitive. There were one or two blues-inspired songs that were okay, but overall this is a mediocre album. 3/5

Pretty good album, although not all the tracks are to my taste. Stray cat blues sounds amazing but the lyrics don't quite hold up. Favourites: Sympathy for the Devil Jigsaw Puzzle Salt of the Earth

Whoever said these are better than the Beatles needs their head testing.

I've just never been a huge fan of the Stones.

Growing up hearing the chart singles, its a surprise to dig into this album and hear the blues roots the Stones were built upon, such as Prodigal Son No Expectations is a gem, and together with the classic Sympathy for the Devil and Street Fighting Man, they stand above the remaining seven tracks on this collection

It’s no sticky fingers

Enjoyed this, SFTD and SFM great

It's alright, easy listening. I like SFAD a lot so it gets an extra wee bit

As usual with a Rolling Stones album, there's a bunch of throwaway filler, some sloppy production, and at least a couple absolute classic singles

This was fine. A few famous songs I knew but several I didn’t. An enjoyable background listen.

Sympathy for the Devil is of course the song everyone knows, and it's a banger. The rest is very good but needs to be taken as part of the bands evolution to be fully appreciated. I really like this album, and it is deserving of its place, but there really isn't anything revolutionary there.

3/5 Classic Stones album. But I gotta say, Sympathy For The Devil is the only song on it that I actually liked. The rest is okay, but the album doesn't pull nearly as hard as Sticky Fingers and others. Sadge.

Classic Stones, bluesy and country/roots rock music. It's very well produced and at least it doesn't overstay its welcome. But it has only one really big hit on it, and the rest are pretty forgettable. Esquire magazine wrote in 1969 that Beggars Banquet is unflawed and lacking something while the Beatles' White Album (also released in late 1968) is flawed and great anyway. That's the difference between Stones and The Beatles. 3 stars but it mainly for the hit, their skills and the production itself, not the songs themselves.

a bit too much like if CCR made a Stones album... it's fine.

Street Fightin Man is a banger...have a couple of other big highlights. The filler isn't as strong as some other Stones offerings. 3.5/5

Tja, ikke helt min kopp te. Men ikke helt jævlig heller. Klink 3

I've always liked The Stones, but I could never fully get into their albums besides Exile on Main Street. Maybe it's their antiquated bluesy jams, but there's just something grating about a lot of their music. That being said, Beggar's Banquet is still really enjoyable. "Sympathy For The Devil" is fun. The piano in "No Expectations" is beautiful. "Parachute Woman" is super groovy, and the soulful choir in "Salt of the Earth" adds so much. Favorite songs: Parachute Woman, No Expectations, Factory Girl, Salt of the Earth.

Album is clearly influential but idk. Just a bit dated maybe? Definitely one of the great albums if its time just not really holding up in 2025. Sympathy for the Devil is still a banger, though.

Classic Stones. Woo woo woo woo woo woo... did he find out his name? Country influences and latin percussion hints were nice (Mr Richards is the penultimate guitarist). Liner notes were needed for a couple tracks for me to be able to follow the lyrics. Not my fave Stones album, but I enjoyed bits of it. Listened before? N Saved to library? N Favorite track(s): Sympathy for the Devil ⭐⭐⭐ Liked it. Saved one track

Another Stones album? I'm ready for some Beatles, please. This has a few good ones with a lot of boring ones. Listened before? N Saved to library? N Favorite track(s): Street Fighting Man, Prodigal Son, Stray Cat Blues ⭐⭐⭐: Liked it. Saved some tracks.

Sehr sweet. Sympathy for the devil ish halt afach ein vo dene tracks off all time! Streetfighting Man und Factory Girl beides halt au easy cooli tracks. Het mich jez ned so krass ahgsproche has jez aber glich fast drü mol gloset und mer hets all in all glich gfalle.

Favorite: prodigal son

With 𝘉𝘦𝘨𝘨𝘢𝘳𝘴 𝘉𝘢𝘯𝘲𝘶𝘦𝘵, the Rolling Stones returned to their bluesy core and captured a band rediscovering its true identity. The record feels raw, confident, and steeped in swagger. 𝘚𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘵 𝘍𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘔𝘢𝘯 crackles with political tension, while 𝘚𝘺𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘺 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘋𝘦𝘷𝘪𝘭 stands as one of rock’s most iconic and hypnotic songs. A solid album whose strongest moments still define the Stones’ legacy.

Another Rolling Stones album that make me wonder why they have so much appeal. This album had a couple songs I thought were alright, but mostly it kind of just came and went.

5/10 🫤

Pretty good. Never really listened intently to Sympathy for the Devil before so that was nice. Same with Jigsaw Puzzle

I did like this quite a lot. It definitely had some standouts that I'll be returning to, but there were a few that felt just not too great to me or straight up boring. At the end of the day I do like and appreciate the classic Rolling Stone sound you get on basically the entire album, and feel like this is something that people should listen to, but some of the songs are not too memorable at all for me.

Sympathy for the Devil is a classic, the rest of the album was alright but kind of the same blues rock sound back to back.

Pretty good.

Started as hot as just about any album could with Sympathy for the Devil but it mostly felt like a southern, honky-tonk type album after that.

The two singles are the two best tracks. This feels like a transition album for the Stones, as they are growing out of copying the Beatles and growing into the raunchy, macho, 70s version of themselves that people love them for. Plus a little country….Solid album, I think good energy and performances (particularly from Mick and Bill Wyman) paper over some meh songs, but the highs are high. Would go 3.5

Na ja,…

Much more RnB than I'm used to from the Stones. 2 classics, the rest is okay-ish but nothing groundbreaking.

I liked it

Not my favorite, as I have never been a fan of the Stones. Objectively, a lot of these songs sounded similar.

I mean, I understand their influence. It just doesnt hit anything for me. Even if I understand it was where they found their sound again and opened up influence for some punk and Aerosmith sounds.

Starts really strong but suffers from a pretty quick taper

Great great sleazy blues rock here. They seem to be taking the piss during some of the country blues numbers so three stars instead of four but the standouts are cream of the crop.

Iconic opening track - The rest was pretty decent as well.

It starts off so strong but then tapers off into meh land.

You know, it’s the stones

Good blues album and they seem enthused. It isn’t that hard to find the blues that inspired them today

Bit disappointed in this one (outside of Sympathy for the Devil of course)

Rolling Stones don't do much from me and this album seemed to very much encapsulate their sort of American bluesy sound. Sympathy for the devil is okay, rest of it not quite as good. Probably quite edgy for the time especially compared to other British bands but not worth the plaudits these days I'd think.

Can only echo everyone else. Not as good as Let It Bleed, and Sympathy for the Devil is great. I still don't get them as a cohesion, they really do jump between genres.

Not as good as let it bleed, better than the others we've had. It's all ok, just not really my thing. They have a fair few decent tracks though, bet a greatest hits album would be decent enough. That would do me though Sympathy for the devil is the highlight. 3.5

Not my favorite Rolling Stones album, and I wasn’t really into it today. Only track I recognized was “Sympathy For The Devil.” Favorites: Prodigal Son, Factory Girl

It’s punchy, it’s clean, I like a lot of the lyrics. Sympathy for the Devil might be a top 100 song all time. Unfortunately the sound of the album is just a bit hit or miss for me overall. I recognize that at the time it would have been a statement album but I don’t actually know that it’s my bag. Too many tracks that blended together for me. Standouts Sympathy for the Devil and Dear Doctor.

good record

This is a really good blues-rock project. The intended album art reflects a lot of what's going on. Gritty dirtied pub version of something we're familiar with, that we might prefer to keep clean under traditional standards. We're glad they went there. Starting off with Sympathy for the Devil? I was so excited, maybe more excited than I should've been. It balances out to something along the lines of just listenable, but really well made background rock. I could buy this record at a decent price, there's a time and a place for this sound, it's just not my typical day. 2.9/5

Fantastic album

Very twangy, but still enjoyable.

I hope every Stones album isn’t on this list…

Two quite enjoyable songs with the rest kind of just not doing a lot for me.

i was never the biggest rolling stones fan tbh

classic rock that bores me to tears, it's okay in the okayishest sense possible. what else to give than 3 of 5 stars?

Out of the chute strong and then solid.

Well, there's Sympathy For The Devil, and there's all the rest. Most of said rest are several White-Men-Play-The-Blues outings, but there are one or two good songs among these as well. It's a step up for the early Stones for sure. 3/5

A nice listen although I feel like it peaks to early with Sympathy for the devil as the opener and then goes kind of downhill from there. The other songs are still somewhat enjoyable but after the strong opening feels like a bit of a let down. A nice listen overall though.

6/10 I've never spent much time with the Stones in the past. I've heard the obvious hits, but never dug much deeper. Honestly, I found this very hit and miss. When it was good, I did really enjoy it, but when it was bad. Oh boy. Mick Jagger's vocal sounds quite different across the album, which is a bit weird, but on a couple of tracks, it just sounds terrible and really takes away from the rest of the track. Jigsaw Puzzle and Factory Girl were both big lowlights for me. Really awful vocals ruining otherwise decent songs. Often I felt myself thinking that I'd be happier putting on some of the blues music that this was obviously inspired by, as this lacked a bit of the grit and authenticity that you get from the old school blues guys. There was also quite often very little significant development across the tracks, which was a bit of a shame. It kind of works when it's a bluesman with a guitar, but when you bulk it out like this, I feel like it needs a bit more. That being said, the band was great. They were tight, there was some great grooves and some of the guitar work was first rate. But hard to call this to be honest, but it's pretty much straight down the middle for me. Sympathy For The Devil - A fantastic start to the album. It's actually got a bit of a slow build. That bass line is a banger, but it's been aped so many times that it seems a bit overdone these days. Guitar solo tone is pretty harsh and is too high in the mix. Great mix of percussion in with the rhythm. It doesn't really develop a great deal in the end though, which is a bit of a shame. No Expectations - Nice bit of slide guitar. This is a good little slow number with a bit of swagger. The guitar parts and the piano blend together into a really nice tonal bed. It doesn't really develop much, but it's a pretty decent little tune. Dear Doctor - Country territory now. It's feels like it's trying too hard and I don't like the half shouted gang vocals. It all just feels a bit insincere, without being tongue in cheek. I feel like music like this has to be in one camp or the other to really convince. It's a miss for me. Parachute Woman - I quite like this. But I like the blues that this is quite obviously inspired by a lot more. Give me Howlin' Wolf or Muddy Waters over this any day. It's a really good track actually. Just doesn't have the authenticity that the real trad bluesmen would give it. Jigsaw Puzzle - Nope. Don't like the slurred three note drop in the vocal melody at all. Sounds so non committal and half arsed. And the vocal melody just repeats through the whole song. The actual track is decent. It's got some great honky-tonk piano and a real nice groove, but eurgh that vocal is really distractingly bad. Street Fighting Man - There's an interesting emphasis to the rhythm of this. It gives it an interesting, almost lopsided thrust to it. Again, the vocal is not great. Too much time alternating between two notes. When he goes away from that, it's much better, but it's just a bit annoyingly repetitive. The song also doesn't offer much variety in general to be honest Prodigal Son - Oh, this is much better. Again, I'd prefer to listen to some old school delta blues, but there's a really good driving pace to this and the guitars sound great. Oh. It's a cover. And it seems they didn't credit Rev Robert Wilkins for writing it on the original sleeve. Nice. Stray Cat Blues - This is ok. It's got a nice swagger and a solid driving beat. It never really lands on a solid hook anywhere though, which is a shame. The component parts are decent, but it just never does enough to really grab me. Factory Girl - The guitar work for the intro is really nice. Oh god, the vocal. Is he going to sing in a strained way and fail to hit the high notes the whole way through? So flat. So drawling. Eurgh. Sounds like that guy from Puddle of Mudd trying to sing About A Girl. The rest of the track is really good, but I can't really hear it because of the unforgivable vocal. Salt Of The Earth - Sounds like a Bob Dylan song. It's pretty good. The piano part is great and the blend of the rest of the band sounds so full. It's got some solid drive to it and the backing vocals really add depth. There's enough variety between sections and the vocal line really ties everything together well. Nice little gritty jam at the end too.

The more I've explored the Stones' catalogue, the more I've realized I'm fine with the hits. Obviously "Sympathy for the Devil" is one of the most iconic rock songs of all time, and "Street Fighting Man" is one of their great songs. The rest are good to hear, but won't bring me back. Well, maybe "Stray Cat Blues" to marvel at how problematic it is.

Give me Exile on Main St please. Now that is a fully complete Stones album that demonstrates their musical value. This is a bit meh.

Never been a huge fan of the band but this is a good album. Good, clean classic rock with a blues background

Only heard Sympathy before. I enjoyed it, mostly. Loved the instrumentation on some of the tracks (I think that was a tanpura in Street Fighting Man??), and like the choir in the last song. I can acknowledge that its great for a blues-country-rock album or whatever; but most of it was just not my thing. 6/10 Favs: Street Fighting Man; Jig-Saw Puzzle; Sympathy For The Devil; Stray Cat Blues (i can only hope this song is narrating a perspective of a character as opposed to autobiographical)

Good to do some sport;))

Finally get the Rolling Stones on this list, and I recognize only one song. One of my least favorite stones songs. The album itself though, not too bad. The best song, IMO is Salt of the Earth. Which gives off that Sister Act church choir thing towards the end that I found enjoyable. Sympathy for the Devil is a classic, that gets annoying by the 70th "woo hoo" in a row. This one gets a 3 from me.

I think the Stones are overrated. This album is fine, but it's not great. Sympathy for the Devil is a song I recognized, but I did not know that was the name of the song, or that it was about Satan. TIL.

Two HUGE songs and some filler. Not overall their best compared to the classics

Some great songs, but some middling songs too. There is no cohesion to the album either. Some mad faux-country for example. Not good. I can never quite put my finger on why I’ve never really liked the Stones, but this probably sums it up.

Po una recopilacion

I prefer the Brian Jones-period Stones when they were a bit more psychedelic and weird, like Her Satanic Majesty's Request, before they became full-fledged dad rock. Jones is present for the last time on this record throughout, but was apparently a nightmare to work with in the recording process. Nevertheless, this record stands as a symbol of a departure the Stones were making into a more blues-rock sound and far away from the psych aesthetics I like them for. Throughout the listen, I kept asking myself—almost out loud—do these guys just sound like a well-produced bar band, or did every bar band that followed them just try to sound like this? A real chicken or egg question for the hippies of the time, (and perhaps now even for the grandads who currently live in Margaritaville in Florida). Granted, here the band was experimenting with instrumentation and rhythms that go well beyond a 4-piece rock band setup, but that is only on a few standout tracks. The bulk of it is roots rock that all kinda blends together for me.  There are a couple of iconic tracks on this record. I might even go as far as to call them era-defining. "Sympathy for the Devil" is such an anthem of an era it's ridiculous. Sure it was also a huge chart success, but in this case I would argue for good reason. "No Expectations" has a lilting, lazy flow to it that kinda feels like a Sunday afternoon. "Street Fighting Man" has a rhythm that pricks up my ears immediately. Jagger's vocals punctuate the beat like a snare hit in his phrasing. Also a huge radio hit of the time, but again, it eclipses the other songs on the record almost totally. These guys are doing their best work when they're not aping their influences and experimenting a bit more.  Stepping back to look at the bigger picture, I have always considered it strange that a bunch of young English dudes of the time were so inspired by Delta Blues that they practically formed cover bands. This goes for so many combos besides the Stones (Cream, The Beatles, Zeppelin, The Yardbirds, The Animals, Them... the list goes on and on). Some showed their inspiration less obviously, and others were pretty flagrant about it. But very few, if any, would credit their influences - and that's the weird part for me. I mean, Brian Jones named the band after a 1950 Muddy Waters cut. On Beggars Banquet, it's clear The Stones fall squarely into the flagrant camp. Sure, overall the music is good, but it's also challenging for me to listen to knowing that context.  Given the uncredited cultural appropriation and actual domination of non-white folks meted out at the hands of white British dudes since forever, the seizure and commercialization of a Black American art form still has an inescapable feeling of colonialism. I cannot shake it. When a track like "Prodigal Son" comes up and Jagger is practically singing in a highly-affected blaccent, I cannot help but cringe at it. It reminds me of how awkward I felt when I first heard CW Stoneking. Anyhow, given the songs on Beggars Banquet were recorded during the American Civil Rights Movement, and the boys in the band initially negelcted to give credit where credit was due, the trespassing here feels especially egregious and ultimately makes them into white boy posers in my book. And that unfortunately takes would could have just been a good time listening to some bluesy rock and roll and turns it into something else - something pretty flawed. I must say, the album art—which originally the record company refused to print—is great. It has a real fuck-you attitude and perhaps even pokes fun at themselves a little, what with the filthy toilet mere inches from their byline. It's a brave and arrogant choice that the old punk in me quite appreciates. The vibe of it definitely confirms that these guys knew they were a well-produced bar band.

Not My Favorite

Not my favorite Stones album by a long shot. One word comes to mind while listening: sedated. They're talented musicians, and it's a legendary band, so what happened here? It's still good, still an enjoyable listen, but it just kind of...sits there. And doesn't move. Fave songs: Again, it's bizarre because -- I really enjoyed basically every song on this album (save for maybe Jigsaw Puzzle). But as a whole, it's just sort of decent to me at best.

One good song, others ok

The stones are the stones. Some very sonically pleasing songs on here, and sympathy for the devil is obviously just insane. I get that it’s kind of their whole brand, but I’m not entirely sure how I feel about Mick Jagger’s caricaturishly-southern American performance over this long of a period. It starts to feel slightly ridiculous, and I get distracted. Giving it a 3, would be a 3.5 if I could.

Take away the first song and you have an album that is 'fine' at best. It's crazy to me that the stones don't actually have a 'main' album and that all their hits are spread around.

What the fuck is Stray Cat Blues 😅 the riffs are amazing but dear me those lyrics. Other than that, enjoyed this one

liked the raw sound, some great songs

All kind of sound the same but it's a sound I like. 3.5

well, it's just fine. not really sure what the hype around Rolling Stones is about

Nota: 2.7

Seemed on par with other Stones albums. Not much to say here. They’re not favourite but I don’t mind some of their songs. This one was not particularly memorable to me.

That was a lot more folky than I would have guessed. It was fine. 3 stars.

wasn’t expecting it to be so bluesy. enjoyable listen but didn’t change my life

Other than my favorite Stones tune, this was mostly meh. 3/5

Never cared all that much for the Rolling Stones.

I liked Sticky Fingers a lot more, but this one wasn’t bad.

Some great songs, but overall not for me 3.5/5

Overhyped

It gets better.

Good old fashioned dad rock

This is one of The Rolling Stones albums that have hit harder for me. Just very nice songs all around. True 3+

one of the best stones albums ive heard on this list, 3.5 , still mostly just like the songs that were singles

Stones at its best. Lots of blues, one of the biggest hits in the history of music, other good songs too, but nothing stellar. The Stones aren't a band of albums, but a band of hits

I know this was a huge album and a turning point for the Stones, but as a whole it doesn't speak to me. And I never became an avid Stones fan anyway. But thanks for many iconic tunes during their long career.

One great track, and then filler.
