Reviews (page 7 of 13)
Not my favorite Stones album, but Sympathy for the Devil is one of my favorite songs.
Just a great album. Point (7/10) FT: Sympathy for the Devil, Street Fighting Man
5/25/2022 - ALBUM #118 Today's Album: "Beggars Banquet" by The Rolling Stones - When I last reviewed a rolling stones album, I felt that it did very little unique to stand out and does not differentiate enough from song to song to be very interesting, but either that album really sucked and this album is much better than that, or I was very impatient with that record, because I had a much nicer time through this one. There feels like there's a ton more talent in the guitarwork than last time with this really folky fingerpicking sort of vibe throughout. Some of the songs do feel like your typical Rolling Stones tune, but they don't feel like they're wasting my time as much with this project. I like a lot of the Bob Dylan type vocals on a lot of tracks and the band really do hold a better tune this time. However, the more I get used to this more stripped back way of rock music with some of the other albums I've reviewed, I am starting to rethink a lot of my original opinion of that first record. They really pioneered so many sounds and were essentially the start of rock music in general, so I think I really need to just give these tracks more time to settle into my ears. This album has some really great production and although The Stray Cat Blues was pretty blown out and some other songs were kind of unimpressive or boring, there really aren't many, "bad" moments on this record. I really like the last song as this sort of desperate ballad and I especially love the instrumental freak out at the end. They really reach some levels of noise I didn't expect out of the stones. Overall, this album has honestly turned my opinion around on The Rolling Stones and makes me want to go back and reconsider the score I gave their last album I reviewed. It still isn't totally my sound, but if you've ever been slightly into their music, this album is a must. Highlights: Sympathy For The Devil, Street Fighting Man, Prodigal Son, Salt Of The Earth. Score: 7/10 Made me reconsider The Rolling Stones
The Rolling Stones are one of the biggest bands of all time but I always keep forgetting they exist for some reason. I really only listen to two songs by them ("Gimme Shelter" and "Paint It Black") over and over again. This was my first full Rolling Stones album, and it was pretty damn good. The songs are all solid, with "Sympathy for the Devil" being the standout track. The worst ones are not bad, just kind of forgettable. I don't really remember what "Dear Doctor" or "Prodigal Son" were about.
Great stuff all round, the hits are some of their best.
Always enjoy The Stones, they're classics for a reason but don't often listen to complete albums. I really enjoyed this, particularly the definite blues feel on some tracks. Great album.
I agree that there are some ordinary songs on this album, but Sympathy for the Devil alone rates a 4. Street Fighting Man and Jig Saw Puzzle are pretty great too.
Has some of their best songs, not quite their overall best album tho.
Pirskatti mä kyllä tykkään Rollareista! 4/5
Ei oo Rollarit rokkiklassikoita turhaan. Tasapainoinen, teknisesti tarkka ja monipuolinen levy, 4/5.
Very consistent album from the stones here. I enjoyed this. Favourites: "Synpathy For The Devil", "Jigsaw Puzzle", "Salt Of The Earth"
good album
So, this is the first time I have ever listened to a Rolling Stones album. I know this band is legendary but due to some indelible marks made during my formative years from being bombarded with the song 'Start Me Up', I had put a mental block on them. Now that my time had come, I was glad to find out that I had the wrong impression. What struck me the most throughout the album, is how varied and diverse the song arrangements were. This is made loud and clear with the opening track. 'Sympathy For The Devil' is slow-to-boil perception bending tale, with a catchy piano progression, a bass guitar, a collection of utility percussionists, some people saying "woo-woo" over and over again, a couple of guitar cameos, and Mic giving it his all on top. Just brilliant. Songs like 'No Expectations' layer and build and are constructed as they play out. Others tracks, while straight forward in their structure, flourish in that they are built on non-pop roots like delta-blues ('Dear Doctor', 'Prodigal Son') and bluegrass ('Factory Girl'). This is definitely much more than just another classic rock album, and with the one exception of 'Stray Cat Blues', doesn't align (in a great way) with what I was expecting.
This album surprised me. I’ve never been the biggest Stones fan. It starts off with one of their most iconic songs but I don’t even think it’s the third best track here. A FANTASTIC listen.
Some hits but solid deep cuts too
awesome sound, bluesy rock.
Classic
Already knew this album. Sympathy for the Devil alone makes this a fantastic album.
Solid album
This is where the silly voices started. Some world-class tracks, but too much filler.
I actively dislike 'Sympathy for the Devil' - those background hoots really grate. The sexual politics of 'Stray Cat Blues' are grim. 'Prodigal Son' is the closest Jagger got to outright minstrelsy. Yet, I love the album - and those latter two tracks are superb, in their own way. Hell, I don't think I'd have ever tried open tuning were it not for 'Prodigal Son'. Elsewhere, 'Street Fighting Man' swaggers around, whilst my favourite track is the iridescent slow blues of 'No Expectations'. Not quite my favourite Stones album, but close.
Great album, 4 stars
Awesome album! I love this thing for making me appreciate the Stones! Would’ve skipped them in the past!
Stunning album.
Como começa é pra ser definitivo.
Day 1
This album is has the jams you love and some songs you don't know but are charming.
4/5 very nice album!
Never heard the Stones like this. Very different than I expected but I really enjoyed it.
We love the stones; sympathy for the devil and street fighting man are absolute classics
in the great debate of stones vs beatles, i've always come down beatles. mick always came across as a bit sleazy to me, which really rubbed me the wrong way as a kid. on the other hand, i did always love sympathy...and damn, what a track to lead off any album with. and then a bit later we get jigsaw...then some unexpectedly awesome blues in the stray cat - and salt of the earth veering straight into gospel as a finisher...pretty incredible. i still don't really care for mick...but this was a great album
Just couldn't stop thinking "This really sounds like the Rolling Stones". Which is good I suppose.
2 classic songs from The Rolling Stones here, with Sympathy for the Devil is an epic and Street Fighter Man featuring fantasic instrumentation and politically charged lyrics. The rest of the album is good but not as great as those two songs. I do appreciate the variety on here, bit of blues, country, and rock. Jig Saw Puzzle and Stray Cat Blues are the best of the album cuts.
Sympathy for the Devil is a banging opener for an album. Tonally this album is all over the map. But I did enjoy it, a lot. It was a very pleasant classic rock listen this morning, I listened to it end to end several times. There’s something about it that just feels like a good Stones album. Like if you were alive when it came out and bought it you’d be happy with that purchase.
Va beh, chi non conosce 'Sympathy for the Devil'? 'Street Fighting Man' è un altro classicone: wow!
Sympathy for the Devil and Street Fighting Man are the standouts on a solid release.
-"Sympathy For The Devil" is certainly a classic. The solo is cool with the super high pitched clean melody stuff -"Street Fighting Man" is solid -Not crazy, but it does have the advantage of being The Rolling Stones
A lot more blues and folksy than I was expecting.
Surprisingly good, quite hit and miss like many albums of the time. Very soft, not really rock and roll. nice tones , sympathy for the devil great, 3.5/5
The true salt of the earth.
A very clean sounding mix of some of their best songs and a few surprises. A good listen
not bad
Li ho sempre snobbati. Avevo torto.
I was never a Rolling Stones fan but I can see from this album why they were innovative & important.
I not a big fan of the Stones. I think growing up I got in my mind I had to choose between the Stones or the Beatles, and I chose the Beatles. But as I grew up, I began to appreciate them more and more. This album has a few well-known pieces to it, but I really encourage you to watch the youtube version. The lyric videos are really cool. "Sympathy For The Devil" has one of my favorite lyrics of all time: "I shouted out who killed the Kennedys, when after all it was you and me." So even with me not being into the Stones, this ws still real good. The slide guitar in "No Expectations" was ok, and little things bothered me, but it's really on the edge of being a 5-star for me.
Finally, Brian Jones is sidelining himself and the true talent of this band can come forward. I wanted the Stones to be a great 60s band for a long time, and then I realized, they were at their best starting with this record and carrying through the 70s. For me, the peak starts here. They had great songs before this, but this starts the great run of records for this band, IMO.
There are two sets of songs on this album. The songs that you've heard before because they're good songs and played on the radio (or used in Martin Scorsese films), and the foundational songs that give those others meaning. The foundational songs are innate, born from dark empty dive bars with makeshift stages and played differently each time. They are barely commercial and exist as authentic extensions of some guys that just like to play music. Sure, Jagger's buxom lips are alluring, drool-worthy even, and his androgynous stage prancing has unmatched sexx appeal, but it's really Keith Richards and his schlong that keep the band honest.
I’m not a Stones fan but you gotta appreciate the fact that their music is woven into most music since. Can’t escape that.
Evidently Bobby Gillespie's favourite album ever
As much as I joked about Exile On Main Street, Beggars Banquet was actually VERY GOOD and VERY ENJOYABLE. The Stones hit kind of a country twang here and I totally dig it, plus Sympathy for the Devil is my favorite track of theirs.
Started a bit slow but the last few songs were really good. First time listening to the Stones.
One of the Stones' best.
Opening song is so iconic and themed perfectly as an intro. Great bass. Dear Doctor…country? What? Very nice.
Super rugged and dirty R&B sound. Nice album front to back.
Sympathy for the Devil is one of the most amazing songs (fascinating music style/layering and great lyrics). In addition to street fighting man, there are quite a few other strong tracks i wasn't previously familiar with, jigsaw puzzle and stray cat blues. Very enjoyable.
Great album starts off strong but gets weaker as it continues, still reccomended
Pretty decent Stones album. Two singles are the BIG hitters here. Other tracks pretty decent. Have heard this a few times before. Good one to revisit every few years. 3.5/5
Probably my fave stones album we’ve listened to on this
Liked this album…. Songs bring back memories of my cousins older than me that played on their stereo
Really excellent album.
The Stones are back and found their sound. Sympathy for the Devil is an all-time favorite.
Toda una auténtica banda. Melodía, ritmo, rock pausado... Un gran disco de una gran banda
Dadrock boomer music
I don’t like The Rolling Stones… don’t like Jagger, songs are too simplistic, vastly overrated. Beatles > Stones, always. That said, there’s some nice album tracks here. I might have to consider that it’s just their hits I’m not a fan of. “No Expectations” and “Dear Doctor” are perfectly fine songs. Hmm… Deserves further examination.
this album cover is way better than the 50th anniversary one that spotify shows.
Great music
A good rock album starts off great second half not quite not quite as good as the first half but still a great classic rock album 4/5
The Scorsese soundtrack of our lives.
Great album
While not entirely my thing, Beggar's Banquet had enough classics to keep up the momentum.
I'm not a fan of blues rock in general but The Rolling Stones are different. I don't know why but I can always find something to latch on to and enjoy.
Great listen. Love the energy and the pace throughout the album. A very blues/folk/blue collar vibe. Sympathy is an all-timer.
3.5 if I could, but is definitely more of a 4 than a 3. good music through and through but also sort of just "there".
An amazing Rolling Stones album here! It's the most instrumentally experimental album for the band, and it started a huge wave of creativity into their next few albums. All of the sub-genres of rock seem to find their way into this album in one way or another, so there is a song for everyone!
Couple of standout tracks but not exceptional
Very good
6/10

Classics! And some new ones I hadn’t heard. Amazing it came out in the 60s it sounds freshhhh
Wasn't really a fan of the Stones but really liked some songs on the album (eg. Stray Cat Blues, Factory Girl)
Sympathy For The Devil is amazing and the rest of the album is full of tasty little bluesy numbers that I enjoyed.
Good album. 1 amazing song, 1good song and the rest are enjoyable. Like the blues influences.
Great stuff. Very Bluesy?
Lots to love here, reminds me of summer
Superb
For a band with such an immensely huge back catalog the Stones only ever managed to string together 5 decent albums (Beggars, Let it Bleed, Sticky Fingers, Exile and Some Girls). Granted that is 5 more than most bands manage but the Stones have had 30 studio albums so its not a great strike rate. This the first time they managed it and was a real coming of age. Its not perfect but I don't want The Stones to be perfect- It'd ruin them. The thing I love most about the stones is the filler tracks. The bits in between the hits that the stones do so well. You see it in their live shows and you see it on the their best albums. There are no skips. The Beatles Highs are probably higher than the Rolling stones. But their lows are absolute dogshit. The Stones remain consistently listenable through all their albums. Also they're the greatest Rock N' Roll band ever so they can't get less than a 4. Even if its not my favourite. They're also immortal which is impressive considering the excess. Highlights: Street Fighting Man, Stray Cat Blues. Solid 4/5.
Pretty much straight up r&b, very good examples of it. Elevated by sympathy for the devil which is a classic
Solid stones

Muy bien. Pero no es para 5. Está Sympathy for the Devil
Mye blues-referanser. Men til tider litt i overkant mye Jagger i monitor. Pluss: Sympathy for the Devil og cover'n Prodigal Son.
I mean, Sympathy for the devil is great. Most songs on this album are actually great. Enjoyable to listen to the whole album.
I really look the Stones foray into country rock which you're starting to see on this album. It's not my favourite of their's though so only a 4.
Yea
Classic.
I liked this
Rolling Stones are good but still not a favorite
Salt of the Earth still one of my favourite RS songs
I'm listening to Beggar's Banquet by the Rolling Stones, it was released in December of 1968. I looked it up to see how it fit in with other album releases by the Rolling Stones. My favorite Stones album 'Exile on Main St.' would come out about 4 years later in 1972. I would consider myself a fan of the Rolling Stones, and they've had quite a long and amazing time as one of the greatest rock bands ever. My wife doesn't enjoy them as much, so I don't really get much chance to listen to them. So far, I'm enjoying this album. It's not as clunky as some of the other albums of this era. It felt like Queen has quite a distance between the great songs on "Night at the Opera" and their lesser tracks. I've not heard this album in it's entirety. It flows better. Each song feels whole and complete comparatively. The blues feel real and I can connect to this better than I thought. It's what happens to a band that has been together and around for so long. Classic rock stations ruined a lot of this music already for me. Instead of nostalgia rock, this feels pretty fresh. I've been dismissive of the Stones because of how large they loom. And whether their later output cements or tarnishes their legacy. I think this is amazing, and I hope people can get past thinking of them as a lame older band. Maybe I would start with myself.
It must mean that I am not a true Stones fan if there are several songs on this album I've never heard before. Great classics on it too.
Das gut mane
Pretty good, It gets a lot of praise because of Sympathy for the Devil
Classic
decent chill vibes, may listen again
I only listened to the first couple of songs, but I did like it!
Great album, used to hearing the hits vs the album, really liked it!
Enjoyed Mick Jagger's singing and the rough cut guitars.
I've never really giving The Rolling Stones the respect they apparently deserve. This album was great.
Stones break their pop mold and go American? Two big hits, some great tracks that don't quite make it to deep cuts territory. No Expectations and Jigsaw Puzzle are my jams. 3.5⭐️
Too country; not enough blues on this one to make it an album of choice.
I should like this album more, but it just doesn't really hit like any of the other Stones album from this era and I am talking since 1966. 2.5/5
Dear Doctor - was quite the country tune, but also put me in mind of The White Stripes. Conflicted because I don’t like country music, but I like The White Stripes. The bluesy folky rock feeling of the rest of the album was great. Even the songs that tended toward bluegrass, like Factory Girl.
3★/5 06.29.2026
Some great songs and energy from the Rolling Stones, but this doesn't quite hold together as an album, with quite a bit of forgettable blues rock filler. Sympathy for the Devil alone is enough for this to get three stars, aside from that
I mean, I enjoy the stones… but are they really on the same level as the Beatles? I feel like the Beatles are way better, it’s not even close. There are a few moments on this album that are really, really good, (mainly the last two songs), but most of this album was kinda whatever.
Found it a bit inconsistent stylistically. The two hit songs are great, the rest I found a bit ‘meh’. I’ll try and give it another listen; maybe it’ll grow on me.
- First song Sympathy For The Devil is good - Also liked Dear Doctor and Factory Girl, and the rest were just alright, most songs just went - Probably because I haven’t listened to stuff other than digicore in a while…
Not a huge Rolling Stones fan. The music is good, just not exceptional for me. Only a 3!
I'm not as keen on the Stones' output as a honky tonk Americana band. Sympathy For The Devil is an obvious banger and one of "The Great Songs", showing up in trailers and films more times than I've had hot dinners, but everything after this is entirely unremarkable to me. I'd rather listen to Bob Dylan's Basement Tapes any day.
I liked how it sounded and I also like how the album looks because It feels like. How the songs inside of the album would sound. Like the songs that are in the album describing it.
Fairly good, I liked the vocals. I'd recommend this to any rock n' roll fans, but I, personally, do not like rock n' roll.
I like this album and the different instruments used in the songs. I also like the lyrics so I would give it a 3.
Good album, but it's not my favorite. I do recommend to some.
Before listening to this album I would not really consider myself a fan of the Rolling Stones and I must admit that bias does bleed in how I viewed this album. I feel like the Stones have a very dull interpretation of the blues and I also feel like some of the early stuff especially isn't that good to my ears. All this to say is that Beggars Banquet as a whole surprised me and exceeded my expectations I had for the band. Tracks like Sympathy for the devil and Stray cat blues are examples of the Stones at their most interesting and amusing with the mix of instrumentation and the energy that Mick Jagger brings to his performance. I also think that a majority of the album is just ok( like Prodigal son and no expectations are not my cup of tea) but listenable enough as a whole to where I still see it as good. I hope the rest of this journey is able to make me warm about the stones. Fav tracks: Sympathy for the devil, Jigsaw puzzle, street fighting man, Stray cat blues, and Salt of earth
An obviously epic opening track. Track 2 had a 90s indie feel (which, in 1968, was quite ahead of its time). Track 3 was crap however, and after that a mixed bag.
Sympathy for the Devil has always been one of my favourite tracks. Rest of album is fine.
Surprisingly bluesy.
First track and album cover is cool, but that's about it
It's not the best by the stones, but still a decent album.
Jigsaw Puzzle / Sympathy for the Devil Hard to ignore the juggernaut here but the album itself is mostly forgettable
Music's fine. Too bad about the "raping children, marrying children and then also writing a song about raping children" part, but what can you do.
so, this is my first album to listen to in this website, so far i find the first song (sympathy for the devil) quite nice and a good pick to be the first song, it's a nice first impression (woo woo), i'd heard about the band beforehand, obviously, i don't live under a rock, but i never gave any of their songs a chance at all since i usually listen to other music genres second song (no expectations): not for me, not bad nontheless third song (dear doctor): i liked this a bit more, really liked the lyrics fourth song (parachute woman): short song but i loved the rhythm, i've got nothing else to say about it fifth song (jigsaw puzzle): so far, i like this song way more than the previous ones, for both the lyrics and the instruments, it's very up-beat, the kind of song i'd listen while on the car or the bus going far away (maybe for some that's a bs description) sixth song (street fighting man): gotta love the drums in this one, personally in my top 3 fave instruments, not the #1 fan of the lyrics in this one but a very nice song, might add it to my pl only for the drums seventh song (prodigal song): i love when lyrics tell you a story, nice classy guitar and rhythm overall, the type of rhythm in a classic country movie maybe? well, easy top 3 best songs on this album eighth song (stray cat blues): nice rhythm but the lyrics are a no no for me ninth song (factory girl): again, nice rhythm but i don't like the lyrics, not for me tenth song (salt of the earth): honestly, a very nice song to finish the album, i liked the bg chorus, the lyrics and the instruments are lovely overall this album is okay, it wasn't for me at all and i know some lyrics were written many years but i just cannot like them all i know some fans may come at me but at the end of the day we all have different tastes i give it 3 stars (actually it's like a 6.5 or 7 out of 10 BUT i don't feel like giving it 4 stars imo) bc i actually enjoyed some songs, while other were not my cup of tea i won't be adding the whole album in my downloads but MAYBE 2 or 3 songs might be added to my pl depending on how much they grow on me
Like most stones albums, a couple of good songs, and then a lot of forgettable filler.
divertido, algunos vibes bob dylan
Not the biggest Stones fan, if a fan at all. But you can hear their influence on all that followed. I just like what followed more.
Some decent track, I mean the opening is an absolute classic. But overall like of meh.
It's okay, it has a few classics but a lot of country inspired bluesy filler
an easy listen with some good classics
I do like their earlier stuff. I enjoy the tracks where they're being a bit more hippie and original, but with a lot of the other tracks I can't help getting that it's a bunch of wealthy white men cosplaying as poor Black bluesmen.
It’s good but I’m not the biggest blues guy and I’ve heard better blues
I much prefer the bluesy late 60s Stones over the earlier poppy stuff they did to compete with the Beatles. Beggars Banquet isn't as good as Let it Bleed IMO but I like it's grittier sound.
I feel pressured to rank this highly due to its reputation... but I just didn't love listening to it. Some of the songs are nice, and the ones I recognized are indeed cool, but I'm just not sure it's the album for me. I skipped a few songs but enjoyed others. It was gonna be 2 stars but the album ending with Salt of the Earth (great tune) raises it to 3 stars.
Didn't hate it but didn't love it
considering the intro song, the overall album was actually fairly disappointing, really thought I was going to hear more of their hits/classics
Pretty solid album, somewhere between a 3 and 4 for me. Nothing egregious and nothing mind-blowing.
I keep waiting for the Rolling Stones to win me over, this album did not do it. It's fine but like everything I hear there is one decent song and a lot of filler.
It’s another ok Rolling Stones album, 1 well known song the rest I can take or leave
Normal stones blues sounds but with a lot more country western thrown in than some other albums of theirs. Generally pleasant although the whining on dear doctor was a bit am dram. Got a bit bored towards the end, especially on a second listen for calibration but generally solid.
First listen I was not massively impressed, though I did not start off loving the Rolling Stones specifically, so they had some ground to make up. Starting with the good, I did enjoy the classic blues theme. It was much more prominent than I expected, which for the most part I enjoyed. I was mostly just surprised by that, and secondly it had quite a folk element to it as well. "No Expectations", for example, is a very soft song with a sliding acoustic guitar (they used this effect a lot). "Dear Doctor" reminded me of Jack White, which was strange. Just a rougher version that couldn't sing as well, with a less powerful guitar sound. The end of the album probably embodied the struggle I have - "Factory Girl" followed by "Salt of the Earth". Maximum folk whine blended into a mid-west American drawl. I think that takes me to my limits, despite the wider sound being pretty good. I don't know how to conclude this, as I actually happily listened to the album a few times, but I do think it has elements within it that I cannot get past, and for that reason I’d give it a middle ground score and no more.
This still sounds pretty early considering it was their seventh album. If we swiftly move past the "White English guys do the blues" trope, I think this is a pretty good album. It has a few cringe moments but overall its good, if slightly naïve, bluesy rock and rock sound all the way through. I'm not sure that this album ever transitions from good to great. A solid effort but I'm sure there are much better Stones albums on this list.
Bastante country, ubicaba las más conocidas
Sympathy for the Devil an all-timer but the rest sadly fades into the background. RYM: Y (#897) Saved a song: N
3/5
3.5 - enjoyed the play with some different folk-ish vibes
This was a great album. I love the use of the steel guitar on no expectations which is almost always reserved for country albums. Great lyrics.
Over 50 years removed from its initial release, Beggars Banquet is considered by many a classic in their catalogue, but I felt just alright on. Featuring one of the Stones' all time classics, Sympathy for the Devil which still stands as a truly magical song, however the sound of the rest of the album is personally just ok. Not bad, but nothing really sticks with me as much as that opening track. Not that there aren't other good songs here, standouts being Jigsaw Puzzle and Street Fighting Man, but I'd rather return to a few other Stones records. There are definitely more interesting and cohesive records in the Stones discography for my money, but again this one is worth it for the opening alone.
Pretty solid, some classics and good vibes.
Pretty nice! Love the storytelling
Fave songs: Sympathy for the devil Jigsaw Puzzle
6/10
What the fuck is this Country music shit
One of the best songs they have in my opinion (sympathy for devil), but not my fave album. A little boring at times.
good tunes man
ok ravzej bez komentarzq tbh troche nuda i ta harmonijka eh
Solid album
Good
I liked it but I liked sticky fingers quite a bit more. This is a much more mellow stones
With the exception of Sympathy for the Devil (great song!) and Street Fighting Man, this fell flat. It sounds like they’re trying too hard to be a honky tonk blues band and they’re missing the mark. Compared to those two standouts, the rest of the album just isn’t at the same level.
Banger of a start for this album with Sympathy for the Devil in the lead off slot, but the listen never hit that peak again. The Rolling Stones are an amazing band that I can’t believe are able to still tour. …but they do. They have so many popular songs yet this album only contains a couple. Not my favorite Stones album but it’s good, classic rock and roll.
This album shows why it’s easy to love and hate the Stones at the same time. The classics are classic for a reason but other songs are far from that - they ring hollow and lack the luster of styles they are trying to emulate.
Enjoying my discovery of the Rolling Stones. The two mega hits on this album clearly shine. The rest was very blues heavy with more slide guitar than I ever would have expected to hear from the Stones. Far different and no where near as good as Sticky Fingers, but I enjoyed it quite a bit and appreciate the different vibe on each album.
Beginning is perfect, ending as well, but too much country for me.
I was surprised to find out that I find the rolling stones kind of boring
not my style of music, but I liked "Stray Cat Blues" the most. I loved the instrumental but something just didn't stick with me
Classic band, but not my favorite album. It is too political for me. If I’m listening to stones, I’m listening to a different album.
Man it's really crazy how an album with Sympathy for the Devil could border on a 2 for me. It's amazing how mediocre and "brits pretending to be from the south" the non-hits from Rolling Stones have felt on this list
Decent.
Never gave much attention to this band before but I wish I had sooner. This album was so so so very good.
Sympathy for the Devil is a great song, the rest of the album kinda sucks though.
dfff
i really did not wanna listen to this because i don't really like the rolling stones that much.... i think they're kinda boring but let's see. okay immediately i know and like the first song. good start.
This list has made me realise how little I care about the Rolling Stones
I like this one much more then exile, but the style here is just extremely mild for me
This album starts strong, and ends strong, has its moments in the middle, but feels like it has some decent yet generic bluesy rock moments in the middle. It just feels like they had amazing wavelengths going for Sympathy For the Devil, No Expectations, and Salt of the Earth, and didn't want to overuse aspects like the bongos and backup choir on other songs (which is fair). But I feel like theres gotta be some other tricks you can pull out of your sleeve to enhance the other songs other than a harmonica break. Like the rest of the album is good, its fine! But to hit a 5 star, or even a 4, those other songs have to pick up the slack in some other way. Maybe I'll change my mind on a re-listen.. DEFINITELY better than their debut album. I'm excited to see where their sound goes in future albums, I have a feeling I will enjoy it more. 7/10
Can’t say there’s anything special except Sympathy for the Devil, otherwise good, wild vibes but nothing special.
Songs are like country rock, besides the fist track- none could stand out after 5 listens
Chill cool Rock older sister
Woo woo! Surprised it took me (woo woo!) this long (145 albums in) (woo woo!) to hit a Rolling Stones album. (woo woo!) I’m only really (woo woo!) familiar with their more popular songs (woo woo!) so doing a deep dive (woo woo!) and listening to a full album was interesting. (woo woo!) A lot of the songs sounded country music inspired, which was surprising. (woo woo!) Liked Stray Cat Blues. Can you tell (woo woo!) I found Sympathy for the Devil kind of (woo woo!) annoying? (3)
...it's okay?
The vocal is not my type
Standard Stones. Some belters, some guff. Good listening experience but nothing blew me away. Woo woo
One of my favorite Rolling Stones records. But the Rolling Stones are not my favorite band so 3/5
i dont want to form an opinion about this
i expected more
Rolling bones in the shitter
Agree w the woo woo woo woo woo woo woo man.
meh
ok
2 hit songs and the rest are forgettable. It’s like so many millions of albums out there. Maybe The Rolling Stones best attribute is persistence.
Enjoyable listening experience and already knew a few of the songs. Will probably listen again
Rock n roll scooby doo music
I liked it, but it didn't really stand out, so can't rate it much higher than the other more average albums I've listened to on here
Carried by sympathy for the devil and street fighting man
Best Track - "Sympathy For The Devil"
👍🏼
Sympathy for the devil carried loeihard aan dit matige album
Mid
5/10
OK
Pretty good! 3/5
I felt really aware of Mick Jagger sounding almost comically American. Must have been a very conscious decision to sing that way. There's the one track here that stands the test of time pretty well - Sympathy for the Devil - but even for that the whoa whoa backing vocals sounded pretty silly. All other tracks left me pretty cold.
Apart from a few tracks I really like, The Rolling Stones do very little for me, and this album did little to change my mind. In fact, it reinforced my view. There are one or two good songs here, but the rest feel like throwaways. Even Sympathy for the Devil, while strong, runs on a bit too long for my taste. That said, I didn’t find the album awful by any means.
I have enjoyed listening to it, but nothing has majorly stuck out for me
Comienzo
The Rolling Stones are always a good time! And starting with Sympathy for the Devil is awesome.
I've basically resigned myself to accepting that The Rolling Stones are a singles band for me. I've had 3 or 4 Stones albums so far, and not a single song outside of the hits have been something I've been able to get into. I mean, they're not bad, its just not anywhere near as good as the hits. So yeah. Only thing on this album that does anything for me is Sympathy for the Devil.
Fine but repetitive
Yes to all the only rock n roll vibes and history of this album!!
not a bad album, not the biggest fan of country. the countryesque elements turned me off a bit.
Dober
Not the type of music I’ll listen to but it’s cool
I don’t get the hype ngl… I think this is supposed to be listened to in a bar, not that closely lol
Mi fav simpathy for the devil jeje
The familiar hits are great. The rest was ok.
Easily one of the biggest bangers of the war-time film genre starts off this album. Large vibes of vietnam but also strangely reminds me of pennywise the clown from IT. It feels very old fashioned. Most songs are about the simple lives of people who simply just want to live, not just survive or go to war
Never been the biggest Rolling Stones girl but I liked Factory Girl:) nothing much bad to say about this album but wasn’t carried away either. Listened once all the way through while winding down for bed.
Love the opening track, but otherwise not my favorite Rolling Stones record.
-old school rock -very bluesy -rocky voice -did not listen in detail this time but I liked the overall feeling - got a variety of moods to so not just upbeat which I liked and I personally need some kind of mood variety especially at least some chill songs -but not a woww mind blown album for me
first listen good but not great
listening to this was like rolling stones up a hill. tiresome and to what end??? definitely not worth having an entire magazine named after your band
During workout Good for its time but not memorable
mat çözerken sardı i liked it
Not gonna sugar coat it, this album was much worse than I expected. Sympathy for the Devil was never my favorite song, but I've heard it enough times that I enjoy it now. Sadly that was about all I enjoyed. Everything else was just sort of average. The Rolling Stones have many much better songs.
A lot more bluesy than expected. Really good collection of songs. Nothing mind blowing but a good, chill rock album
Man behärskar verkligen vilket sound dom än sätts in i.
Street fighting man, No expectations, Stray cat blues är andra bra spår. Stark trea.
Pianospelet är den största behållningen för mig. Särkilt i symapathy for the devil är riktigt bra. I övrigt är det en stabil stones-platt. Varken mer eller mindre.
Always a damn good listen. I'm still surprised every time I see this album was made in 1968, the sound is just years ahead of other rock music at the time. Sympathy for the Devil never gets old
Starting off with Sympathy for the Devil, an all time favorite Stone's song based off of one of my all time favorite books (Master and Margarita)? Instant points. Otherwise, the normal Rolling Stones folky twangy rock without any other major stand outs to me.
2,7
Felt like a bunch of b-sides, it's okay but I'd rather listen to almost any other Stones album
Good album but too noisy for me
Mick Jagger sings the blues, if the Stones went this direction after this then they might be worth exploring further
Banger as the first song, then very similar sounding blues music for the rest
No Expectations
This is my fourth Rolling Stones album- and I'm not even a quarter of the way through the project. Sadly, it confirms all my previous perceptions of the Stones: a somewhat overrated blues-rock band that just aren't that good or interesting. This album starts with the uniquely groovy "Sympathy for the Devil", which if nothing else is a very fun listen. The rest of the album is just basic white blues that's not particularly well-written or interesting. The more traditionally Stonesy numbers are the better ones, with quieter songs being uninteresting. Lyrics are very mediocre, and Mick Jagger isn't that compelling of a blues vocalist. So, in short, the Rolling Stones are overrated, and this album isn't an exception.
Its not bad. The main 2 hits are great but the album tracks are fairly average at best. never found the Stones to have the depth of material that The Beatles had.
I loved a lot of songs on here and hated a few! Such a classic sound though.
No, 1001, it doesn't matter how many times you make me listen to The Rolling Stones, I still do not like them. This does have one of the two good Stones songs on it, so I'll boost it a star.
Not big on the stones tbh. Though I appreciate the artistry and significance of the album
sympathy of the devil forever
Track 1- symphony of the devil, iconic, but the only song I previously knew before listening to this album Track 2- no expectations, nothing impressive as by the title, seem to get distracted every time this song comes on Track 3- enjoying the swinging tune very country very blues Track 4- HARMONICA, great bass omg deep guitar riffs and any bluesy instrumental instantly has me tapping my foot Track 5- I like this one, melody and all, same with street fighting man, prodigal son and factory girl all have a unanimous sound of bluesy rock with the rest of the track blending in the background inbetween something intresting Wouldn’t have been THE Rolling Stones album I would have personally pick but still holds their distinct blues rock sound
Liked the sound, still love Sympathy for the Devil, but hated Stray Cat Blues. Ewwwwwww.
Not really my style but is a nice album
I’m not a huge stones fan but I enjoyed this album but probably wouldn’t listen to it in entirety again. Definitely a sound of its time. Reminded me of Led Zeppelin and some Beatles songs of that era but with more honky tonk sound.
It was alright just not really my style, but still good
I never cared much for the big Beatles - Stones debate. For one thing, The Kinks should always have their place in any greatest band of the 60's contest. And also, both The Beatles and The Rolling Stones were massive, important and incredibly talented bands. But Beggar's Banquet illustrates why, if I have to pick a side, The Beatles always get my vote. I really like this album, and it's one of quite a few Stones records I own. But like nearly every Stones album, there is some filler here that drags it down a level. I sometimes think they should have worked on every album a month longer, writing and thinking up new ideas. So I can't go higher than three stars here, down from 3,5 because Let It Bleed is sure to follow and that will have to be a 4.
This one is more consistent than Let it Bleed from the following year, but it doesn't come close to matching the high points of Let it Bleed. For me, the best parts of Beggars Banquet take strong influence from blues/R&B, and craft jangly rock songs around those influences, with songwriting that has some kind of human dimension. "Jig-Saw Puzzle" and "Salt of the Earth" both fit this description. However, there are plenty of other tracks that turn into a simple pastiche of earlier American styles, down to Jagger actually doing an American accent in some cases. There's also a super-creepy song about statutory rape, which is sure to be a fan favourite if I understand the boomer rock genre. 3*
As a person who grew up in a Beatles house, this is going to be interesting. I do love Sympathy for the Devil though. Also I know Street Fighting Man. I guess that was played in my house
Solid enough rock album
2 really good songs
Sympathy for the Devil - my favorite Stones song: Street Fightin’ Man - generational anthem; salt of the earth - find of the album; prodigal son- nice cover; the rest - filler.
Sympathy For The Devil, wonderful as always. The rest... kind of forgettable.
Loved the country vibe. Some of the songs blended into each other - not in a smooth Pink Floyd-y way, just that it got a little repetitive but I enjoyed it a lot. Really liked Dear Doctor, I'd not heard that one before.
Definitely starts off with a classic track, though I don't feel as drawn to classic rock as I used to. This album presents a wide variety of classic rock, folk, blues, and country influences, all held together by mick jagger's tonality, flexibility, and tone. All in all a good set of songs but not my favorite.
Meglio dell'altro che avevo sentito. Ma non mi ha detto molto
Probably the best Rolling Stones album. Not the highest praise, coming from me, but still
3/5 Liked it more than we thought we would. Favorite was sympathy for the devil.
sympathy for the devil: interesting beat; dear doctor & factory girl: too much country twang; parachute woman: like the guitar strumming; jigsaw puzzle: like the bass line; stray cat blues: pretty funky (probably fav track in the album) overall: sunny sunday morning vibes; funky/upbeat sound
According to Wikipedia: "Celebrating the completion of the album, Jagger held a party at Vesuvio's nightclub in Central London. Paul McCartney attended with an acetate copy of "Hey Jude". The song upstaged Beggars Banquet and, in author John Winn's description, "reportedly ruin[ed]" the party.” This makes sense. 2.5 It’s hard to believe this followed Their Satanic Majesties Request. Beggars Banquet pursues a different style, but it also nearly sounds like a different band. The sense of relaxation is palpable - musicians having fun, music being played by people in the same room, no dramatic conceit beyond what they were completely comfortable with. The band have a secure sense of identity, for the first time maybe; although a listener can’t help but be biased on this point knowing the defining run of albums that Beggars Banquet kicks off. Even where there isn’t much to impress in the way of songwriting there are pleasing details in the guitar and drums; I don’t think No Expectations is a great song, but it is a great record - that slide guitar is absolutely delicious. Jagger’s vocals are mesmerising across the whole album in a way that they had not been up to this point. It’s a well recorded album and well judged too - there is a party atmosphere but no indulgence - nothing overstays its welcome, apart from Jigsaw Puzzle. And there are a couple of absolute belters. A very good album indeed. 3.5/5.
Not my favorite music. Saw them in concert a few years ago, fabulous performers!
(4/7) the good stuff is good
Firsts songs top top top top, but then falls a little, but it holds steady solid
Strong start and then the songs are remarkably hit or miss
A few good tracks surrounded by alot of generic copycat material
another good effort from the stones. three real bangers on here ("sympathy for the devils", "street fighting man", "stray cat blues". i don't think it's as good as the next three however. the other tracks, blues meandering, hit a little less than on other albums. definitely starts the shift to the sound i think most people think of when they think 'the stones'.
Sympathy for the Devil ist gut, aber sonst ist es leider nicht so meins
Sympathy For The Devil ist super. Sonst guter Blues Rock. Ganz ok.
solo me gustaron 3 canciones, (bueno 2) y ya
Sta bene
