Reviews (page 10 of 12)

Great live album

Thin Lizzy on yksi niistä vanhoista rokkareista joilla on selkeesti tunnistettava oma soundi.

The Boys Are Back In Town is one of those songs that is always played on classic rock stations. Overall I guess the album was ok, Cowboy Song certainly raised the eyebrows.

Negative stars for the stage banter.

Pretty cool

The songs that were available to listen to were good I guess.

This is probably a 2.5, but we’ll bump it to 3. Likes this more than I expected.

Was alright. Not a big fan of live music

I’m not a fan of live albums because I feel so much of the energy from the show comes from being present at the show. Because of this it was hard for me to get into the songs.

Thin Lizzy are good live musicians, but to me this is just more 70's arena rock that is technically well played but generic.

Huh. 2 live albums back to back. This is ok. Not listened to Thin Lizzy outside of the big hit but the first few tracks were kinda cool. Some were a bit more generic but yeah. I'd go to this concert.

Live & Dangerous would be a fucking A-M-A-Z-I-N-G if it was even close to being a live recording. According to producer Tony Visconti, about 25% of the album is recorded live. Very rocking and exemplary for the time. (6/10) FT: Still in Love with you

Classic rock.

nice. a bit too straightforward and simple. great guitar playing and lots of energy and sex appeal

Currently the complete album is not available to stream on spotify but youtube did the job. Quite enjoyable live album.

I mean it's Thin Lizzy but I just don't like Live albums. It's good in spite of that so a solid 3

This album excerpts the power of a truly great live album, capable of upbringing a mid-level band to so called greatness

Fine. Glam rock.

Grandes canciones.

Thin Lizzy is one of those bands that I'm a little surprised that I don't think of when I'm adding music to my personal playlists. I didn't want to skip any of their songs as I lsitened to this album, and they play some solid rock music. I can list four tracks that I know Thin Lizzy plays, but only one of them was on this album ("The Boys Are Back in Town"). For a live album, the recording and performance from the band are easy to listen to. The band represented their talents well in a live setting, and the background noise from the audience didn't overpower the music being played. I enjoyed hearing a full (double) album from the band, but I don't think the album has sunk in enough to get Thin Lizzy on my personal playlists.

Not really my cup of tea. But I can understand its appeal to rock fans.

This is a good album if this is your jam. Interesting the connection to Huey Lewis!

Urgh. I'm never sure how to rate live albums. There are a handful of top-tier Thin Lizzy bangers on here that deserve recognition. The transition from Cowboy Song to TBAIT is *chef's kiss*. Then there are half a dozen tracks that are kinda forgettable (though I prefer listening to this band's 'forgettable' over most 70s rock bands' 'forgettable'). I gave Live at Leeds 3.5 and I think I enjoyed this more. However, it's not all recorded at one show (and apparently there's some debate about how live it is in the first place), so that spoils the experience a bit for me. Another 3.5 it is then.

I like Thin Lizzy's style. I'm only really familiar with The Boys are Back in Town - would have liked to listen to one of their studio albums before listening to their deeper cuts but still a good listen that left me wanting more.

I am not that familiar with Thin Lizzy besides a couple of songs. This makes it a little bit harder to rate this live album. I know its considered an all time great live album, but for me it didn't do that much. Still pretty decent.

I always wanted a pair of leather pants. Did they steal those from Jim Morrison? I would've thought I'd have a harder time getting into those pants than I would getting into this album. But alas, it'll be easier to squeeze my 240 pounds of self into those sausage tubes than listen to this again. Great guitar work, leather pants (and balls-out presentation) isn't enough for me to enjoy this album. It's a shame, Thin Lizzy is one of those bands that I think I should like but never quite do.

Well, the 1001 educates again. Thin Lizzy is not what I thought they were. I knew the name, but would never have been able to identify one of their songs. I was expecting an 80s hair band. Instead, they somehow bridge both early metal and the 80s hair bands. Last week I posited that it seemed Bon Jovi and hair bands were a softening of heavy metal. And that still seems somewhat true, but the work of Thin Lizzy and other 70s hard rock and early metal are an important piece of the puzzle too. There is some pretty terrific guitar playing on the album. "Emerald" shreds, and at one point seemed to have guitar, bass, and drum solos all coexisting. Not sure why they are represented on the list by a live album though. If none of their studio albums are good enough, should they make the list for a concert? It's not even one concert - it's two stitched together! And a lot of it's not even live! They re-recorded huge chunks in the studio (75% according to their producer). This is not the first live album we've been dealt that did that. I'm not a fan of that whole concept. And then there was the shift from "Massacre" to "Still in Love With You" - who planned this set list? Were those even back-to-back at a single show? "Still in Love With You" felt like three different songs mashed together though, and the guitar solo in the middle part wouldn't have been too out of place after "Massacre," which was the most metal song in the set. These guys are from Ireland. Not that you can tell most of the time. And certainly not by "Cowboy Song." And their background is interesting, with the lead singer formerly from Skid Row (another band I had pegged in the wrong era/genre), and both Protestant and Catholic members. Favorite part of the research on this though was the discovery of the original version of "Whiskey in the Jar," of which I only knew the Metallica cover. I had no idea it was taken from a traditional Irish ballad! "Jailbreak," "Emerald," and "Massacre" are the most pleasant surprises. Overall uneven, but I enjoyed it more than I was expecting to.

There seems to be quite a controversy about how much of this album is actually from live recordings vs. in-studio overdubs. The producer, Tony Visconti, claimed 75% of the album was recorded in the studio and overdubbed while the band claims the opposite, that 75% was live. Who to believe? Regardless, I’m totally rocking out to the guitars riffs from a lot of these songs like Massacre, Suicide, The Rocker, and many others. I should pay more attention to Thin Lizzy based on this album. Does it matter how much of the album is live vs. in-studio overdub? I think so. I tend to believe the producer because I assume he know most about how the album was…you know…produced, but you never know. The answer is probably somewhere in between…50-50? Some of the appeal of a live album is the presumable authenticity of the album actually being recorded live. That it was one take, one crowd reaction, a one-off symbiotic experience. Does that even exist? I hadn’t considered how the live album sausage is made before. Aside from the in-studio overdubbing, Visconti also said Southbound was recorded from a sound check with the audience reaction was from another live song. What is this Frankenstein shit? It’s difficult to know. Will live albums in the future just be the studio recording with AI dubbed crowd interaction? And while we’re at it, will the studio recording just be AI produced on its own at some point? I don’t want to think about these things. I’d rather just enjoy the album that was laid down. When AI does take over the music industry, I know it won’t be the beginning of inauthenticity in its albums. Album judged based on the music alone, which was an enjoyable experience. However, it’s a less enthusiastic 3 knowing it’s a Frankenstein production.

Rating: 6/10 Best songs: Southbound, The boys are back in town

Iconic, fun, a little boring.

Pretty good stuff. 1RS

I was never super into Thin Lizzy, but never had anything against them either. It's good, straightforward hard rock. Phil Lynott had a really interesting and distinctive voice. Guitar playing is excellent. Would have been great to see them live. 3 stars.

Enjoyable albums. Simple & classic sound lacking some variety but they found their niche. Nothing really stood out for me too much they're good at what they do.

I love Thin Lizzy, but am not a fan of live albums. The music quality just tends to be lesser and it's no different here. I have a few songs that I adore and they just aren't better like this.

I don't know why a 'live' album by a band that some admit overdubbed 75% of the album in the studio is a 'must hear' - there are many better live albums that yield the same effect with better results (KISS ALIVE). On the whole, this is a good Thin Lizzy album and reflects why this forgotten band is cited as an influence.

This is a surprisingly high quality recording. I wasn’t familiar with this bands work beforehand. I had heard the boys are back song of course but didn’t know it was them. I found this to be pretty fun and medium-high energy rock. Some of the songs feel a little generic at times but the instruments all come through balanced and just work. I don’t know if I’ll intentionally revisit, but I won’t turn it off if I hear it again

Other than the Boys are Back in Town, I had never heard any of these songs. Decent filler for the oldies station I suppose.

Irish rock band! The boys are back in town

Not much of this album on Spotify

'tHe AlBuM iS nOt LiVe It UsEs OvErDuBs' stfu and enjoy music

Pretty fun live show - a bit generic, and the songs started to really blend by the end.

I have to be in a Thin Lizzy mood to appreciate them and I currently am not.

It's fine but Lizzy never really did it for me. I always felt like their sound lacked something. Soul, balls something. It sounds too polished or clean or something.

Pretty great album. I don't see the appraise that critics gave, but I also believe the other reviewers on this site underestimate the work. There's a lot of passion and drive into these songs... Much better than the studio versions although not as polished. I wish there was more audience participation or something. Doesn't feel like much of a live album otherwise...

23. Fugi. MotA: Southbound "Tonight there's gonna be a jailbreak/ Somewhere in this town"

Classic rock. Good live performance

Sounds far too good to be live… but if it is incredible

Was alright.

Finally, some good guitar work in this 1001 album run. The first time I've ever sat down with Thin Lizzy. This is one of the best mixed live records I have ever heard. The bass is actually audible and the vocals don't drown everything out. Emerald is riff city. Rosalie is a Seger cover for a nice addition. Sounds like glory days rock and roll.

not bad for rock, and it was a live album too.

Vocalist leaves a lot to be desired. Dancing in the moonlight has a cool van Morrison feel and sax. Meh.

Some classic dueling guitars, and the singer is talented, but most of the songs fell flat for me. I prefer the dips into metal, though The Boys are Back in Town is classic.

I knew some of the songs. It was a good live show.

A very compelling live performance of music I find less compelling. Some great songs in here, Thin Lizzy just never grabbed and held my attention.

Love the double lead guitars. While the vocals don't blow you away, they are always dependable. Appreciate the overall musicality of the compositions.

half of it missing on Spotify found it kinda fun

Some great songs but I don't really like live albums

fine, typically 70's rock. Probably not my favorite from the decade and probably won't go back to it.

Fun and bluesy. Would have enjoyed it more as a studio album.

I said m-m-m-maybe this is alot of fun.

Urgh, stupid live albums. Why?? The songs actually seemed really good. The studio versions of the songs would have maybe received a 5 from me, a 4 for sure. Might listen to some non-live Thin Lizzy later.

Certainly fun rock, and the singer has some swagger to him. Nothing that is keeping me coming back, however.

Good, but I associate it with old man's pubs.

Jag gillar dancing in the moonlight. Resten är bara tråkigt kanske 2,5/5

Quite a few good songs!

Classic

One of the greatest live albums?

the boys are back

This wasn't great or anything but it was better than expected, not a bad listen. I probably would have enjoyed seeing this concert. It sounded pretty damn good on this recording

Not amazing, not shit, will always just be the band from billy elliot to me

Perusrokkia.

Live albums really aren’t for me but thin lizzy are great

3.0 - Admittedly, I struggled to keep an open mind with this one. I'm not a huge fan of that 70s cock rock sound and I generally don't prefer live albums. And why are Irish lads singing “Cowboy Song” and about motorcycle gangs? The album captures a band that's clearly honed their stage act and mastered their sound, but it’s a sound that I don’t love.

Nice compact power pop songs. Straight up, not over indulgent, good sound for a live recording. I was only familiar with the big hits but the other songs stand up well.

Biggest rebound. During the first song, I considered giving a preemptive 1, but I stuck it out and enjoyed myself for most of the record. Good rock.

It's a live album, nuff said. Wonder how many there are left on this esteemed list.

This is the first album I ever bought. Some classic power rock anthems here. This is really the Phil Lynott show. 3/5

Really fun listen. I don't think I knew any songs but "the boys are back in town". Great energy on all of the tracks.

Too hair metal-ish for me, but must admit, more tolerable to listen to than other similar songs of the genre.

The Boys are back in town - verdammter Klassiker - 3

I wasn’t sure I would like this, since it’s listed as hard rock, but I actually like it pretty well. I wonder if maybe I just like the 70s more than I thought, since I’d not had as much opportunity to listen to it growing up. Like I think the 70s hard rock is different from the 80s and even the 60s.

Solid live album.

It not my favorite

I wish there was a video version of this. Pretty good for a live version on these songs. I feel like this is the type of music that sounds amazing in person but back on the computer I'm like... ehhh. I only knew "The Boys are Back in Town", which I didn't even know that was Thin Lizzy.

Don't really like classic rock

There were a few standout tracks. Jailbreak, Boys, and the covers were great, but most of the others were not exceptional. The dual guitar work was incredible though.

Dangerous!

At first I was thinking I don’t want an hour+ live 70s rock album. Then I was thinking actually this kind of shreds and is super tight. Then I got a bit bored because it’s an hour+ live 70s rock album. Then I read that it’s a combination of different gifs and studio overdubs, which really detracts from how “tight” I thought it was. Aaah 3 stars even though I didn’t finish it.

Really fun, one track really made me think of David Gilmore!

Too bad it‘s a live album.

I’m not that much into hard rock but this was a very fun listen and I really enjoyed it, it had some amazing work with the guitar and still in love with you was a standout track 7/10

its nice but alot of the same, spotify doesnt have it also sucks

Typical Thin Lizzy, sounds like the regular album tracks

Exactly why I came to this list: an album I would have never listened to, and will never listen to again

1978. Key Songs: The Boys Are Back In Town, Cowboy Song, Dancing in the Moonlight

Why is a live album even on this list? Overall this is good! Songs are kind of just fine, sound pretty good but nothing stands out that much, guitars decent, good quality for a live album This rendition of The Boys are Back in Town is a bit iffy (as are the vocals on a few other songs) A bit repetitive in sound have had to skim through the second half Faves - Jailbreak, Massacre Overall - Okay! Not really into live albums but it's good quality and music's good. Musically just a bit repetitive Rating - 3/5

Well, I didn't really feel it.

Boring

a couple of good classic songs on here but other than that a rather tired album

Live albums should not be on this list for the same reason greatest hits: they are both compilation albums. This one isn't even good. 'Live And Dangerous?' Nah, more like tepid and banal. Top track: "The Boys Are Back in Town"

Aggressively fine

I'm not even sure if this belongs on a list of 1001 Live Albums You Must Hear Before You Die, frankly.

I’m typically a sucker for live albums because of what I perceive as added emotion and passion. Not this one. Straight mediocre 1970s rock with little of either. To be fair I wasn’t raised in a “classic rock” home and therefore started with a negative bias toward this band but there was nothing here to dissuade me from my prejudice. A few interesting interludes but far too few to warrant coming back this way ever again. 2/5

Not really that live and not really that dangerous.

I don't think I have a lot to add to the other two-star discourse out there about this record. Having Thin Lizzy's only representation on here be a double "live" album (apparently remastered post-performance) is an objectionable choice. Double live albums would really be for the serious Thin Lizzy fans, and I can promise you I am not one of them. I might have liked to hear one of their studio records to get a sense of them beyond "Boys are Back in Town" but alas, after listening to this record I think I'm all set. Right now I just really don't want to listen to any more 70s rock dudes, for a while at least. I would say this album is boring because it's so one-note, but it's actually sort of motivating, because I just wanted it to end ASAP. There just seems absolutely nothing distinctive or interesting about this record or group. Everything about it (melodies, singing, solos) seems very mediocre.

i'm not the hugest hard rock fan so i didn't go into this album expecting to love it, but there were definitely a couple tracks on there that were pretty cool. after the first couple though, i did find myself getting kind of bored, and the rest began drowning out into background music. overall it wasn't my thing, but i can definitely see the appeal. favorite tracks: jailbreak, southbound

Not bad but nothing great

I kinda enjoy their music but I cannot stand a 10hr live album! Live albums to me are poorly recorded compilations, dont@me

This sounds like generic 70s rock. It's fine, I'm not listening to this again. 2* Recognized: the boys are back in town

Average

Did not care for this album

70s guitar rock isn't for me.

one or two good songs

To me, to be good a live album has to either a) sound unique compared to studio versions or b) transport you to a particular time and place. This does neither, even if the music itself is alright. I'd have rather just listened to studio versions.

It's competently performed and all, but I just personally find this style of music very tame and uninteresting. It's fine, just not for me.

Snooze rock

No!

The song structure and writing is so generic and boring it made me feel like I was too hard on Van Halen. The solo’s make up for some of it but even they seem a bit formulaic. Could use some more energy and more talented song writers.

Another overdubbed live album

threw this on in the morning, i can see why the live album was picked, all their damn songs sound the same! good energy from the band though, not a lot of breaks in between.

not my roooooooooooooooock

Like gatecrashing a party that has no-one you like there.

Pretty standard late 70s hard rock. Pretty mediocre at that. Some energy but only a few songs

It must have been fun to hear them live back in the day, and the guitar work is amazing, but I didn’t need an hour plus of this, especially because only some songs were great.

Wish the boys would fuck back off

As good as I expected it would be.

Live albums shouldn't be on the list, in my opinion. They just aren't the same as an actual album. Also, live albums with extensive studio overdubs are not really live albums. So, with those issues this goes from a 3 to a 2 for me.

Has anybody here with any Irish in them... a live study in one of rock's less elegant faces 1.5

Overall not bad, I recognize a couple songs. I’d need to be in the mood to listen to it though 2.5 stars

Love Thin Lizzy, don't love live albums.

Not for me. 90 minutes of shredding guitars.

Very rock and roll and cool. Not my thing though.

Eeeehhhhhh.

It's an uphill battle unfortunately, being a hard rock album (sigh) from the 80s (sigh) that is also a live album (sigh). It's not...awful but it's nothing special at all.

I think any Thin Lizzy album would've been good but live albums are never albums that one "has to" listen before death.

It's grooving a lot, but a little bit too much solo

They’d probably be fun to see live, but the songs themselves aren’t really anything special.

The boys are back in town is a fun song but the rest really is a great bore. Having trouble between a 2 and a 3 for this one.

This is the type of hard rock I don't get at all. The riffs, solos, style of voice, ballads, melodies... I find all to sound super inoffensive and dull, specially the ballad "Still In Love With You" which is super cheesy. The only thing I can give this album some credit is that it is "live", which gives it a more authentic and passionate energy than a studio album, and for an hour and a quarter, this wasn't as bad as other pure hard rock records I had to listen to. I used quotation marks in the word live because it seems there is a bit controversy around how much of this thing is live and how much studio recording they added after the recording. Either way, still hard rock, so I don't care for this album.

As a live album this was alright. Not a huge Thin Lizzy fan though. Mostly harmless.

I don't think this one's for me. 2 stars

Can't hear much here to like. Too long and not a great live recording. Probably sound good if you where there and loaded.

Overrated band with only a few good songs.

I think I’ll always struggle with a live album- it’s so overstimulating and hearing an audience can take me out of what I’m looking for when I’m listening to music. I think it’s also maybe not my genre. But Dancing in the Moonlight is always lovely. I’m committing to trying again in a different atmosphere, perhaps driving tomorrow. Wow especially because I’ve learned their lead, Phil Lynott, was Black which is wild for an Irish rock band.

Not my thing, I don't like most classic rock. I knew Dancing in the moonlight from the Smashing Pumpkins cover, but I much prefer that version. I can't stand saxophone in songs either.

- rokin räimet ja vielä livenä hell ye - ois kuvitellu et tää on jotenki aivan super livealbumi mut aika perus rokin räimettä

Not for me

Someone’s uncle balloted for this to be included.

This is getting 2 stars because it wasn’t enough to pull me away from Mr Styles (sorry not sorry maybe actually sorry)

Thin Lizzy have 1.5 good songs if I’m being generous. Dancing in the Moonlight is a fantastic song. One of the best songs of all time. Shame they couldn’t transfer that skill to other songs!

Some good songs.

holy lord another 70s rock album

I like some Thin Lizzy songs. This is certainly not a completely shit record. But by God, how the fuck do they warrant me having to listen to an hour-long edited live album?

another boring way too long live album

I don't know why Boston is a 5 for me and Thin Lizzy is a 2, but life is mysterious. I do think it's a high 2. This album rocks in places but mostly is just replacement-level cock rock. The crowd cheers when they hear the intro to Boys are Back in Town, sort of like it's the first song they recognize. It's all a little soulless and not that distinct for me.

I like ‘The boys are back in town’

Ehhhh not as bad as I expected but stil dgaf. Still fun to listen to in the shower the boys are back in town because my uni friends are coming to visit today

A live album needs an impeccable catalogue (like Deep Purple) or fiery energy (like Jerry Lee Lewis) and this has neither.

Not great

Some say the boys are back in town

#269/1001. It's seems the band and the audience is having fun at a rock gig. So? Asking aloud "I don't know why I had to listen to this album before I die?" My wife answered:" well, it is much easier to listen to it before you die than after it." Nuff said.

Listening to this album was a slog. Many of the songs sounded too similar - with some obvious outliers (jailbreak, boys) Hated the weird overdubbing with the crowd between songs. Maybe just not my vibe. There’s better music from the 70s.

I listened to this album. I had an immediate impression of what it would be like based on the cover. It's for "the boys", whether they are back in town or breaking out of jail or whatever.

Not a fan of live albums. Luckily the singer sounded good live. The album was long. I knew Jailbreak and The Boys are Back in Town.

When to listen: Guitar licks? IDK honestly I probably don't need to listen again. It all sounded very repetitive and didn't interest me.

Ei oikeen livelevyt oo mun juttu. Ihan ok-biisejähän nää on, mutta tiputetaan livehommien vuoksi kaggoseen.

Sometimes fine, most times a thousand years long.

A pretty run-of-the-mill classic/hard rock performance. Not a bad listen but nothing special. Best part was Huey Lewis playing harmonica!

So many albums, how did this one make the list

I never thought I’d be listening to a live Thin Lizzy album…. DNF

I did not need 60 minutes of live boogie rock from a band with 2 memorable hits and other songs that just fall flat.

I really don’t get the appeal of live albums, and this album didn’t help. The performances are fine, but the whole “this was recorded in front of people” thing mostly just gets in the way. These songs would’ve worked much better without the crowd and the reminder that this could’ve just been a solid studio album instead.

Some of these songs are tooooo long

Alright songs but the recording quality was poor

Couldn’t get into it.

I can see how Thin Lizzy was a big influence on 80s hard rock. The Boys are Back in Town was the only song on the album I was familiar with. Most of the songs were live & I don't care for live albums

Not a fan of live albums but the music isn't as bad as I thought it'd be for what wikipedia calls "Hard Rock"

Just archetypal rock and roll. Not unenjoyable, but pretty simplistic, exactly the kind of thing that the users of this site seem to love, quality music which is also safe, known, unchallenging, inoffensive, unimaginative... and already boring, by the time I was less than halfway through this hour-and-twenty-minute monster. A compilation of their best performances of their best tracks, which is an advantage not afforded to most other artists in this list, but even so this drags.

Actually better than I expected.

Don’t like live albums

I like the band/instrument playing, but not quite singing. The voice and the way he's singing keeps throwing me off. Not gonna add any

I'm all for Thin Lizzy - a multiracial multi-sides-of-the-troubles irish band, hell yeah. But a live album is not a good way to show them off

I’ve never really liked Thin Lizzy. 70s rock isn’t really a genre that holds its own these days. A live version at over an hour has not made me change my mind.

I'm a fan of good live albums. This unfortunately isn't. I don't mind some Thin Lizzy. But the production here is just lacking. The live energy is just lacking.

This is #day512 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and… if there's a band that has twelve studio albums in their roster and you decide to include a live record you must hear before you die, that's kind of odd. Especially when that live album is stitched together from recordings of different shows, then overdubbed to polish the sound. I don't think I needed to hear this before I die. This is a 2 out of 5. Looking forward to #day513.

Meh 5/10

Definitely not the album I felt like listening too today. It’s very upbeat and would be great if I was feeling like that but wasn’t in the mood today. Typical late 70s-early 80s rock and always hits

This is a bit too much. Sounds very dated and not in a good way.

I didn't really enjoy listening to this, but I did enjoy reading about the band after listening to this. Nothing captured me. Not exactly bad, just not one I would choose to revisit.

sure was some live thin lizzy. those boys sure were back in town. 2.5

live albums are rarely good and this isn't an exception. at least there's some good thin lizzy songs

Why was this 10 hours long

I'm a bit torn that live recordings were overdubbed in the studio, which makes the whole point of a live album meaningless. This feels like betrayal.

That singer's voice was horrible

not really my cup of tea

It's a "no" from me. Since it was recorded across so many different dates and overdubbed so heavily, this is essentially just a greatest hits record. I don't mind Thin Lizzy, but I think this goes against the spirit of live recordings.

it was okay not my typical genre i liked the live aspect tho. stand outs : Rosalie , still in love with you 4/10

the boys are back in town the boys are back in town the boys are back in tooooooown

I’m going to lower rank all live albums. I will be downloading more by this band though.

I like Thin Lizzy, but I'm still not a fan of live albums

Classic early hard rock album, not the most great music to listen even if it lead to really good genre years later. It's really monotonous, the songs the way of singing. Some really great guitar solo but that's it. Maybe it's because of the a live album because some of the studios songs are more subtle.

The music is good but this sounds like it was recorded in a tin can.

It's ok as an album. Not great.

Classic rock album. Reasonable vocals. Guitars kept me interested. 41yo listener.

there were moments that surprised me!

I like Garry Moore as a guitarist and think that Thin Lizzy has some bangers. I would have preferred a studio album. Sometimes the energy in a live performance gets lost in the mix, especially if its an older recording.

I'm ONLY nine songs in, and I feel like I've been listening to it ALL day! Not a very lively live album.

I appreciate that you can hear the audience and songs blend together like an actual live show and not a collection of songs that were played live. It is a product of its time and the eye-rolling joke after the first song dates it. Not a repeat listen for me.

Not my jam

I supposed it’s OK for hard rock.

I’m glad to get to know Thin Lizzy better but why is this on this list? It’s a very mediocre live album.

Thought I was gonna like this a lot more than I did. I like Thin Lizzy and I think Phil Lynott was a hell of a front man, but this live album just didn’t do it for me. There’s still some great songs but it’s a little uneven for me.

Singing reminds me sometimes of Hendrix. But no song as close as catchy as Jimi's

long and weirdly uneven. Who wants a collection of live performances from different venues? Every one of these songs are better recorded normally.

Live albums are almost always bad. A live album but the tracks aren’t even from the same concert is just baffling to me. You don’t even get the experience of being at the show… just listening to worse version of the songs you already like. Also way too long. I’m giving it an extra star because “The Boys Are Back In Town” is a banger

Eh, I don't love Thin Lizzy. The performance was good and they sounded pretty dialed in, but the music doesn't do much for me.

High 2. Good rocker. But mostly by the numbers. Need more jam.

So glad I get to know more about this band beyond the boys are back in town which reminds me of one time I went to a football team party in college

I dont mind some Thin Lizzy, but this was too much for me. It’s all a bit straight down the middle rock but then that is largely my view of Thin Lizzy. By the end i just felt bored.

Surprisingly little umph, might just be hope clean the mix is but thought they'd hit harder

Two but it was actually okay. A 2.7 Guessing this got a 3.4

I do enjoy a bit of Thin Lizzy, but live albums in general rank low for me among this chosen lot

Don’t really know why we have a live thin lizzy when it’s just not as good studio album Jailbreak is already great.

Loud boring loud

Thin lizzy? More like thin glizzy

That one song was good

Typical rock live album. Good driving tunes

Sounds fine but too long. Not one of the 1001 key albums. Also all the songs are some variation of The Boys Are Back in Town.

It's definitely not my type of music. But it is drive and I'm sure that for someone album might sound great. For me it's 1st record that I won't listen till the end of a tape.

I've never really been a Thin Lizzy fan, The Boys are Back in Time always seemed like a dumb song to me. This live album just seems to kind of enforce that opinion. It just seems underwhelming and bland compared to other metal and hard rock bands before, after and in the same era. 2/5

Look it’s a good live album, but in saying that is it really worthy to be on this list, I don’t think so, unlike an earlier album I reviewed where the debut was a live performance, this is not that, and honestly should’ve been parked to allow other albums where people debuted original songs

This band looks like they should be making some sweet metal (or at least big hair metal). But no-they did “The Boys Are Back In Town.” I don’t know what this adds to the musical canon, except for another Boomer-rock anthem I could do without. Not the worst thing to assault my ears, even though this is like Eagles-adjacent. Will not revisit.

I listened to this while mowing the lawn and that’s the most Dad thing I’ve ever done

Alguns momentos interessantes: "Southbound", "Johnny the Fox Meets Johnny the Weed" e "The Boys are Back in Town", no geral soa barulhento e claustrofóbico.

These guys rock, I just don’t care for live albums

Was not my thing.

Yeah ok I guess.

Not bad, but 8 discs of the same songs in different locations? Not for me.

Live and Dangerous [Live] by Thin Lizzy: 5/10, With every major movement in popular music, there will be bands at the forefront that see massive success without any of the quality of their contemporaries. Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, and Metallica are all regarded as some of the most important bands in the development of hard rock and early metal, and I can really appreciate the innovation and quality they all brought to music as a whole, even if I don't love their entire catalogues. What Thin Lizzy did is quite unanimously agreed to be best portrayed on this live album, and they very neatly fit into the early hard rock / blues rock blend that defined the beginning of hard rock. There's not really anything that they did particularly new, and the largest issue for me is how unremarkable the music is when compared against the modern hard rock landscape. I've heard people in their bedroom in the past few years create more interesting and innovative songs than my favourite songs on this album. All of this being said, this isn't a bad live album, or bad music, but I really feel that it's best described as mediocre.

Classic rock. but sounds a little repetitive. Good in small doses. but not the best of that era.

So a live album that isn't actually completely live? What's the point? If I want live, I want actual live, not mishmash of live with overdub.

I got bored listening to this. I just finished Jagged Little Pill by Alanis Morissette, and that was a 5 I’m a male in my late 20’s. The boys are back in town or something

It is a great album that has insane balance between hard rock music and soft lyrics delivery. Not my kind of music but it is a good discovery !

Do you like the music of Thin Lizzy? Oh, you don't? Not a fan at all really? Well, what if we did it as a LIVE ALBUM so you could listen to tunes you don't really like but without studio sound quality and with audience noise/riffs?

I love Thin Lizzy but I dislike live albums.

I don't like this kinda music :/

This is just one of those "it's not bad, but you had 1001 albums to pick for the list and I do not understand how this made it and ____ didn't" situations. Thin Lizzy has always been one of those middle of the road rockers out there. They're pretty good as musicians and composers but sometimes lacked originality. This album is kinda "live", since they did overdub some guitars over the raw live version, which is fair, but it also makes it feel a little deceiving. The songs they picked are almost all what you would expect to listen to as one of their shows. Overall, an album that will be liked by every fan of the genre, though it isn't anything mind blowing for anyone.

War nicht so meins. Irgendwie langweilig

Yeah… I’m with Rosalie on this one.

Thankfully spotify only had 4 of the songs from this album

Thin Lizzy? More like Thick Glizzy, am I right?

Yup. It’s live. Cool.

Guitar solos? Check. And at near-cliché levels. Good god, just stop. Even the version of the should-always-be-fun “The Boys Are Back in Town” becomes a test of patience. The album exemplifies what can go wrong with live albums—distracting crowd sounds, muffled vocals, musical excesses that only make sense (if then) at an actual concert. No.

... I have nothing good to say about this, ultimately not very "interesting" for me.

Listened to this a while back and it's a good document but the recording is a bit naff, and I just don't really "get" the whole TL thing. 2.5*

New rating system to mean shift up and better discern 2 from 3. 1- can’t stand 2- ok but wouldn’t listen again 3- would listen if it came on but not searched for 4- good, would listen again 5- all time Was 2 now 3. Listened more and still a 2. Had all the thin lizzy songs I recognized.

Not really a fan

I can see why people love this album, lots of energy and creative music in that style. Not really for me though

no es mi estilo 7/7/2025

Doesn’t sound like a live album. Clear there is some overdubbing. Can’t give it more than a 3 as it’s fine. 2 is probably more appropriate since it’s billed as a live album but really isn’t.

Could almost call it circus rock. Definitely a cornerstone of the genre, but not exciting for me.

Blah. Boring. Doesn't even evoke the feeling that it is a 'live' album. Why is this on the list?

Was not familiar with Thin Lizzy. Not my favorite, but might be fun to work up a cover.

Je n'ai pas du tout accorché...

An hour and seventeen minutes of live Thin Lizzy during an outdoor elliptical session in 92 degrees is not as bad as you’d think! And who knew Lizzy had enough songs to play for that long? (Only known song is The Boys Are Back In Town.) Drum solo at the one hour mark was a lift for the crowd and the subject. Last three cuts make for a strong finish. But it’s a live album so free passed its way onto the 1001 Must Hear List. (2.5*s)

Love me some Thin Lizzy but a live one? Live and Dangerous was a fallback release because their producer couldn't produce and this makes the list? Sounds like a pretty kick ass show(s) but still prefer the studio versions. None of the live tracks bring anything extra. Apart from some banter from Lynott there is nothing special here. I'm rating this one harshly not because of the song content but merely for its undeserved list spot...1.72 stars.

Thin Lizzy is fine but I didn't need or want 70+ minutes of them, especially live cuts that in my opinion are worse than the studio versions. There must be another reason this is on the list because this did little to stand out in any way even among live albums. This is one that should probably be replaced. There's some nice guitar work mixed in but the whole product was pretty mediocre for the most part. 1.83 stars Who knew Huey Lewis played harmonica for Thin Lizzy?

Well, it’s absolutely crazy that this is a live album. It sounds so good! But not quite my style.
