Veldig vanlig rock. Dancing in the moonlight er banger

Not my style of music but still fun

Sounds exactly as the cover suggests. A bit "would-be" heavy music. It's not bad... the strength of many songs is melodically, but I'm sometimes missing a good groove. This album is 3rd in line after two pseudo-metal albums (by Kiss and Bon Jovi) and this is musically better but still too poppy for me. Spandex leggings, a wide stance, a mean facial expression and a few fast riffs can't really change that. But it's alright and must have been great live.

I don't like Hard-Rock, I don't like Live Albums, I don't like double Albums. But well, here we are for my first album. What makes this acceptable for me are two things: First, Thin Lizzy can write songs. Jailbreak or Southbound for example are catchy as hell. Second, Phil Lynott has a voice I enjoy very much. On the downside, it's to much riffing and soloing for me. Also, I could do without the rockstar pathos. Still, I definitely can see why people enjoy this. I would not put this record on at home, but if a friend played it, I would not object. I might even tap my leg a little bit.

Fine and got the vibe not really my fave but enjoyable

I wouldn't have chosen this as the best representation of Thin Lizzy but it's ok. Not my favourite band, but reminds me of happy times (how's things Rob?)

Quite fun hair rock.

I'm not convinced about the inclusion of live albums on the 1001 list. Feels more like there's a bunch of gigs that the writers would have loved to attend. Thin Lizzy are great on this, enjoyable.

I’d throw this in at a bbq yeah

Very good live album — vocals and mix are so clean! Powerful, amazing band and energy. Not a fan of every song, though

Thin Lizzy are a tremendous amount of fun and bring tonnes of energy in this live setting. Even as a curmudgeonly hard rock hater who is turned off my needless displays of virtuoso guitar playing was completely swept up in it all. The thing that does it is the knock out singles. You can’t deny ‘Jailbreak’ or the iconic “The Boys are Back in Town.’ It lifts the spirits.

Nawet.

Pretty cool. Especially following the last album.

I don't love live albums, I do love Thin Lizzy. This should be interesting. Just as I thought, good... but worse because its live.

I was only familiar with one song but it was a good album. Crisp, well composed 70s rock with a clean recording. Surprised to hear Huey Lewis introduced as the harmonica player!

My previous review was sufficient enough: I say it all the time, I’m not a big fan of live records and I’m not really a huge fan of Thin Lizzu. I am however a fan of Phil Lynott, especially the tracks he did with Gary Moore, and Phil’s voice is incredible live. I’ve always loved “Still In Love With You” and this live version is magnificent. I enjoyed it, but the mix of songs from different shows and, as I’ve just learned, it was over dubbed knocks points off. It’s a good list of tracks, but maybe a little exhaustive.”

Another live album that is LONG. I’ll get it out of the way here by saying live music is phenomenal. Nothing can compare to being in a room while talented and passionate musicians are performing music to an enthusiastic and equally passionate crowd. With that in mind, I’ve always had a problem with live recordings. Studios lend themselves to picking up sound. Even with excellent audio equipment, the live show sounds worse. As far as performances, those vary from project to project. Who knows what we’ll get here, but seeing a live album pop up is always a groan-inducer. It ain’t over til the fat lady sings, so I’m very concerned about the thin-ness of this “Lizzy” character. Jailbreak - That guitar tone is fantastic. This sounds great. I’m immediately proven wrong. See, I don’t actively want to hate everything. There really just is that much to hate in the world of music. I will say though, that the singer is a little subdued for me. Sounds to be going through the motions. Also, I really only picked up the lyrics during the chorus, but it’s ALWAYS bothered me that a jailbreak could happen “somewhere in the town.” Are there several jails? I guess there could be. Jails aren’t prisons. Ugh. Break me out of here. Emerald - Oh, lovely. Frat boys on St. Patrick’s Days were given a line for life from that intro. “Any ladies that would like a bit more Irish in them.” And thus sounded a wave of exaltation from rohypnol buyers across generations. Lucky this song is pretty rad to make up for that. Lord of the Rings meets hard rock/heavy metal. Which is honestly not a groundbreaking combo, (even for 1978) but still cool. Southbound - Oh no. Whattaya say lads we have ta get one of these on the radio no? Incredibly boring riff and vocal chorus. A harbinger of the early 80’s. This one is uhh how you say, “shit.” Rosalie (Cowgirl’s Song) - Genuine question, but were there “Cowgirls”? I of course can google this rather than asking a performative rhetorical question to an empty webpage, but I thought it was just the old ranch hands that followed comes from place to place. Was that a female job back when there were actual cowboys? This is your frequent reminder that people who unironically dress in cowboy attire look incredibly stupid. Anyway. With my manifesto on cowboy clothes still in the works, I leave you with exactly the review I would expect of a Bob Seger deep track cover with a singer on quaaludes. Not for me. Dancing in the Moonlight (It’s Caught Me In It’s Spotlight)- Oh no the crowd is clapping along and it’s a song about dancing in moonlight AND summer nights? Oh brother. There’s that other horrible song about lunar jigs that appears in movies frequently, and at least this one is better than that. Lyrically lame, let’s take this one behind the proverbial barn and finish the job. Massacre - Whoa. Metal adjacent. Damn near there until the singer comes in. I even like the campy echoing on this one. Good stuff. Still in Love With You - I’ve always been embarrassed by this, since it seems to be the pinnacle of masculine music enjoyment, but I don’t give a shit about 95% of guitar solos. Now. There are some that bring tears to my eyes, but they have to come together in a creative, unique and passionate vein. This is just the same low energy blues solo perpetrated over 7 minutes. It’s fine, but it just doesn’t really matter to me. Sorry dude bros. Carry on with my me. Johnny the Fox meets Jimmy the Weed - Interesting. Who has managed to broker this legendary sit down? Jimmy the Weed hasn’t been seen since they whacked his boy Sammy the Sprout. A lot of people said it was the fox, but the fox has those teeth. Is he eating grass? It’s still a point of contention to this day. This has to be the work of Marvin the Mole. Only he could bring the crazy DJs and Low Riders together for a true summit in the back of this Cadillac. Cowboy Song - You are not a cowboy. You are an Irish man born in the 1940’s singing in Philadelphia? Why don’t people make more songs like “I am a count with an insatiable lust for blood.” Why don’t people at Costco wear cloaks and prosthetic fangs? Or, better yet, pirate hats. Why don’t we all walk around saying “YARRR” instead of “ya’ll.” When will people understand that a cowboy is a costume, ideally reserved for children under 3. Most kids over 3 have moved onto dinosaurs or something else cool. Lame song to boot. The Boys Are Back in Town - The big hit. I think there are some boys who just back to Philly in that audience. The soundtrack to every man getting back into any sort of town/village. Hell, I’ll enter a hamlet and remark that the boy(s) are indeed, back in town. As silly as it is, the song is undeniable. Good performance of it as well. Don’t Believe a Word - Solid riff. Iron Maiden lite. Vocals aren’t my favourite again, but whatever. Warrior - Man this is a really long album hey? At least the residents of Philadelphia got their 10 bucks worth. Inflation is awesome and definitely *wink* NOT a result *wink wink* of corporate greed *wink* NOR is it a result *wink wink* of the blatant excusing of said greed as a natural force beyond human control *wink*. Good song. Are You Ready - If it wasn’t for the singer and lyrics, this would be close to Judas Priest at times. That is high, high praise. Needs Rob Halford, but they’re really bringing the energy near the end here. Suicide - Haven’t heard so many people rejoice at the concept of suicide outside of a black metal concert or maybe gen z online spaces. The children yearn for all that is grim and frostbitten. This was fine. Sha-La-La - Too many La’s, not enough Sha’s. The line “Take my Jelly Roll” made me spontaneously vomit all over my computer and keyboard and now I’ve been fired and I’m in the hospital for vomit based observation and I’ve been rehired and they cleaned my station and it’s all fine, but I don’t like that line. What a journey. Especially considering I had to sit through more wanking of a different sort for 3 more minutes. Don’t you know my brain has been conditioned for 30 seconds or less? BLIND JOHNNY ON DRUMS. Baby Drives Me Crazy - Cries a lot. Smells bad. Everybody!! My baby stinks and also cries. Oh we’re talking about an adult woman. I guess the same could apply. Well. Now you’ve stolen my thunder. This is a stinker all on its own. Sugar baby sweet *harmonica* sounds like something I’d write to make fun of an album. That is word for word what they are actually doing here. Big time Fuck You to “Huey Lewis” on Harmonica. How are two people on lead guitar? Progressive group these lads. The Rocker - Wasn’t this that shitty movie with Rainn Wilson from the turn of the 2010s? It’s a decent song with more lame lyrics about motorcycles, rock n’ roll, and “juke joints.” Let’s get the negative out of the way. Too many guitar solos that were just ok? Check. Next up are the lyrics. This was almost 50 years ago, so I get it. Things become old fashioned. Hell, stuff I liked has gone out of style in like 10-15 years. These were presumably young guys, heavily influenced by American culture in the 50’s, and I just don’t care about that. It’s what every crusty old conservative who is restoring a Chevy Nova likes. It’s boring and it reminds me of the finiteness of life. This album was also too long but that’s a minor dig. Where this thing surprised me was the energy. There is a palpable lust for playing from the band, the singer is goofy but seems to be having fun, especially after a slow start. There are some sweet riffs and songs on this thing too. I can imagine the concert itself would’ve been far more fun than this but that’s not really a controversial statement. Considering Philadelphia has booed Santa Claus and beat a pacifist hitchhiking robot to death, I’d say that from the cheers, they liked it a lot, and for a live album and I think Thin Lizzy and myself dodged a couple bullets. 3 HIGHLIGHTS: Emerald, Massacre, The Boys Are Back in Town, Warrior

This was actually pretty good, or maybe I was just in the right mood for it. I still don't really like this band but this album has some good energy.

At least it has a lusher and more blues-inspired sound compared to some of the other 70's hard rock on this list. The live audience being faked is also just plain weird. You don't notice it really unless you know. Still an odd practice.

Okay rock album

Not for me

Simple, clean and very consistent.

Energising live album, can feel the crowds spit and sweat mist into the air

It’s good - cool guitars and stuff. Too bad that it is not completely live. I especially love the guitar on Still in Love With You. I’m a sucker for those pentatonic notes

Serious Glam rock. Good fun but not favourite and time has moved on. No doubt this was innovative at the time, and still a good listen with some banging tunes. However the years haven't treated it that well. In terms of the recording itself, it was ground-breaking as a live album, but again time has passed. Good but not great.

Alright rock with a few nice balades but too repetitive and almost never change key

It was... Alright. Vibes with some of the more emotional tunes. Too loud and muddy.

It’s much better than what I was expecting based off of the album cover

I didn’t think I was going to like this album but I ended up really enjoying it. Classic straight up Rock and Roll.

I've never been a big Thin Lizzy fan, and so I've never listened to a full album. This was pretty good. Not great, but not really any bad songs.

One the one hand, the music is sometimes a bit meat and potatoes. On the other - what a band! It would have been amazing to see them live.

Rock and roll fun, very good sounding live album. Probably won’t return to this but still didn’t hate it either

Not bad, apart from the controversy of exactly how much is actually live and how much was overdubbed. Great classic rock with everything you'd expect from that time. Nothing too crazy or mind blowing. Pretty mid overall.

As far as live albums from classic rock artists go, this is definitely one of the better ones. They are good entertainers and the songs sound good and engaging, despite the fact I only know a couple of them. I would have enjoyed it more if it was shorter, but it is fine as is. I enjoy the guitar tones they got here, they sound really full. High 3.

Pretty straightforward rock live album.

Okay I enjoyed this more than I expected, some really fun moments and I dig the guitar leads… I still didn’t enjoy a fair bit of it though and it’s definitely not my genre. Might keep a couple of the tracks and check out some of their studio work. Lightest 3. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is good, but extremely boring haha Rating: 2.5

Thin Lizzy was a great rock n roll band, but a live album is a curious choice for this list. But the late 70s/early 80s was the golden era of the live album. So maybe it makes sense. I would have much preferred one of their studio albums to have been in this book though. 3/5 Album 25/1001

Was okay

To paraphrase an excellent tweet: I will NOT enjoy this Thin Lizzy album. (expression of stony resolve softening, warm smile spreading across face) Ah what the hell. Pass me Live and Dangerous, brother

Typical 70s rock songs

indifferent 3. hey schono kuul, v.a. so als hintergrundmusig wenn me am morge wett ufwache. aber eigentlich sind si findi eif chli es schlechters queen. ich han allerdings au nöd di ganze knapp 10 stund album aglost👀

I wouldve rated this higher if this wasnt a love concert. I really do not care for them, especially the older ones where the sound quality is wank. I would've loved watching it.

1970s rock

Liked it more than I thought. Not sure why, but I never seemed interested in Thin Lizzy, but hearing them was an absolute blast. It starts with Jailbreak, which is a lot of fun. Emerald and Southbound keep up that energy. Dancing In The Moonlight, Warrior, and Sha-La-La are also great. Most of the rest of the album is good, only a few duds. Would be great if it weren't live, if the same set of songs were the recorded versions the album would probably have been a 4, but I just don't really like recordings of live songs. Still, a fun time and I'm definitely going to listen to more of them. Best song: The Boys Are Back In Town

Good album, would have preferred a studio album because the live version doesn’t add anything apart from fans clapping and a few words. Favourite songs: - Rosalie - The boys are back in town

Live hard rock with some blues influence. They demonstrate their competence, power, and soul across this album. They take advantage of the 2 guitar approach, which is where some standout moments come. But overall, some cool stuff but a lot of forgettable stuff as well. There’s nothing specifically wrong with it, just doesn’t grab my ears.

Meh. It was really good remastered but I don't really care for this type of rock anymore.

5.5/10 Some good songs and fun energy but Thin Lizzy's output feels inconsistent and when listened to as a full album a little too 'countrified' for my taste. Not sure the live version particularly adds anything to the experience here. Listens: 1

These guys were ahead of their time.

The kinda stereotypical fun ignorant rock I never thought the world would miss. Everything kinda sounds pretty similar to the boys are back in town, but I didn't know about massacre, emerald, the depth of young boys songwriting in general. Tragic story, Mr. Lynott, but hey we have this and he does the Irish in you joke unironically! Different times. Better times?

I don't have particularly strong feelings about this. It's fine. Didn't feel dangerous, but maybe you had to be there.

++: Jailbreak, Massacre, Still in Love with You, Johnny the Fox Meets Jimmy the Weed, The Boys Are Back in Town, Are You Ready, Suicide, Sha La La, Baby Drives Me Crazy, The Rocker +: Emerald, Rosalie / Cowgirl's Song, Dancing in the Moonlight (It's Caught Me in Its Spotlight) +-: Cowboy Song, Don't Believe a Word, Warriors -: Southbound 7,0/10

Another live album where it was probably better in person. Still, its not bad. Huey Lewis on the harmonica was definitely a surprise. I felt like the album ended in an unsatisfying way. C'mon Lizzy give those nice people an encore! Favorite track: The Boys Are Back in Town

I like Lizzy, but a whole album is a bit much. This does show what a propositional band they were, it’s a shame there’s controversy about overdubbing.

Most other live albums fail to answer the question: “Are the boys back in town?” This one answers that one. It’s solid. Favorites were Rosalie, Massacre, and The Boys Are Back In Town.

A decent album not sure if it is a must hear

A sort of best of live album comprised of songs from several different shows only to then be overdubbed in a studio - and no one knows exactly to which degree? I’ll do my best to pretend this is just a regular live album. I don’t actually care that much for hard rock, but when Thin Lizzy is at their best on songs like “Massacre” and “The Boys Are Back In Town” they’re an undeniably great live (or studio?) band. I was surprised to find that I wasn’t bothered by the length, there’s just too many songs I don’t find that interesting.

Amazing guitarist.

I will say that is a mighty fine crotch shot

Live recordings feel like an oxymoron. The albums just don’t capture the live experience, at best, they can make you feel like you wish you were there to experience it live, but it is never a better listening experience than a studio recording, and never as exciting as a live show. I’m sure this was a great live performance?

A quasi funny Thin Lizzy story, in my teenage years (mid-90s), a bunch of would crash cottage parties, steal beer and try to blend in (to steal more beer). One successful night of blending in, got to chatting with an inebriated 30-something. We chatted about music and beer mostly, but we went on and on about Thin Lizzy and how awesome they were as a band. At the time, I only knew a couple songs of their songs. Cue this listen. I see where that drunk 30-something was going; this album captures the band’s prime. A fun listen.

I really dislike live albums, but this one surprised me. I found it to be a pretty fun listen, until it overstayed its welcome. Clocking in at an hour a 17 minutes, I hit the point where I eventually hit stop and moved on. I just kind of had my fill about 50 minutes to an hour in.

Imagine clicking the little hyperlink icon for your streaming provider and landing on the Live and Dangerous (Super Deluxe version) - 9 hours and 51 minutes long. Absolutely disgusting. Thankfully the regular version is only 1 hour 27, but that's still a slog for me. I liked "Southbound", but unequivocally I would enjoy the studio version better. Same can be said of Rosalie. And Dancing in the Moonlight. Ok, so maybe I am enjoying this - but I standby that I would enjoy this more if it was not live. The Cowboy Song to Boys are Back in Town transition is nice. "We'd like to thanks everybody for coming. Especially if you came twice or three times." cheeky sods. 3/5

A high-energy performance of some of their greatest hits.

скучноватый, очень классический, я под него уснула, хоть и хард-рок. Все песни звучат для меня одинаково

Yeah. It's alright....I feel you have to be emotionally attached to a band to enjoy a live album (mostly...) and this is OK. Though I'm not a massive fan of the Who but their Leeds album is really good. ( and better than this) I have no idea what I'm talking about.

I'm not the biggest fan of live albums. I would much rather listen to a studio version of a song, than the live version. I will give this album some credit, because it had some cool transitions, and a sick extended drum solo in Sha-La-La. Overall though, its not anything I'd listen to on my own. Solid 2.75 Favorite Song: Sha-La-La Least Favorite: Are You Ready

Очень объёмный альбом, много музыки, довольно таки обычная для этого жанра

Transition fra Cowboy Song til The Boys are Back in Town var syg nok synes jeg! Rigtig fed optagelse. Alt for meget skræv på albumcoveret imo

Slightly above average 70s guitar rock that gains some added punch in the live presentation. Not the best double live album but definitely the best version of this band. At times it's has strains of Springsteen. You can feel their influence on the next generation. Overall a far more enjoyable experience than expected.

First saw this and thought "oh jeez a double live album". It's rock music alright. Pretty good rock music though. Favorite track(s): massacre, the cowboy song Will I revisit?: middle priority Current rating: 7.5/10

Classic, 3.5

Great live album.

Usually, live albums make me want to hit ‘mute’ on the crowd noise. But Live and Dangerous actually nailed it—great sound, no ‘WOOOs,’ just pure rock.

This is a classic "live" album - live in quotation because of the disputes over how much of this is actually live versus studio overdubs. I saw Thin Lizzy live around this time, and the album does seem to match my recollection of the gig. Despite this not really being to my modern, more experimental, taste in music, I think it remains an important document of the band at their peak and as they navigated the changing musical landscape of the time. I reckon the lyrics are all a bit cliched and trite, but the songs are delivered with great gusto. I eventually grew out of this stuff.

Had some good jams and fun for most of it. Will I listen to again: 50%

I say it all the time, I’m not a big fan of live records and I’m not really a huge fan of Thin Lizzu. It’s a good list of tracks, but maybe a little exhaustive.

A little Huey goes a long way

Not really remarkable. Not bad, but didn't seem like anything more than a live classic rock album when I listened. Must need to be a fan to appreciate this one fully.

Odd inclusion to this list, but Jailbreak live must have HIT. Good on ya Irish lads.

There was a time in my life when I thought I was too cool for bands like Thin Lizzy, but I was misguided insecure young man. Thin Lizzy is just good ol’ American Rock and Roll (I don’t care if they’re not actually American, Thin Lizzy is as American as apple pie) and I like it. That being said, I expected more out of the live album. I thought the crowd would sound rowdier and I thought some of the guitar riffs lost some of the power they have in the studio version. Apparently there are like 10 Thin Lizzy live albums so maybe I’d like the mix better on one of those.

3.3 Sorta live and kinda dangerous. Good list of tracks to cover the Thin Lizzy catalog, but didn't stand out as an outstanding live album.

70s rock isn't always my thing, and this is a bit overlong, but honestly, it's loads of fun and full of life (regardless of how live it may be (and who cares anyway)). 3 5☆

Solid 70s rock live album. Enjoyable, but difficult to really get into and absorb. Any time I have to resort to YouTube to listen to something, the commercial breaks between each song really detracts from the experience. Thankfully after another search and disregarding the link that this site provided, I was able to locate the album on Apple Music.

Fine blues rock album. This is what I expect from my middle of the road 70s rock.

Started out great but fizzled out. Took me a few tries to get through the entire album.

why was this so long… anyways it did have some great songs so points for that

Live in the album title is always a green flag as a certified hard rock hater, even i gotta admit this album is badass af

I knew Boys are Back. It was interesting because I didn't realize they sang it , and for 3 or 4 songs before it played it I thought wow this sounds sooooo familiar. Then Boys are Back and I was hit in the musical face with a ton of bricks. So it is cohesive, but maybe a little too cohesive and all starts to sound the same. So is that good that their sound is unique and identifiable or does that mean they don't have range and do one type of sound really really well. In terms of live album, in the beginning they did a lot with the audience and then it tapered off and it didn't feel life anymore. I also read the review stating it was overdubbed a lot! I never thought about that, the idea of a live album is that its live not lip synched over, so that lost a little of that for me.

Another live album. The songs are fine. Nothing here that doesn’t sound like every single other band from the entire decade. Completely unremarkable to me.

I did not use a private session for Spotify, though Spotify only let me listen to four songs from the album, which were the four biggest Thin Lizzy hits. Those songs rock, though.

"Johnny the Fox Meets Jimmy The Weed" was unexpectedly funky. "Boys Are Back in Town" is super catchy and plays on classic rock hit stations all the time. The drum solo on "Sha-La-La" is legit and you can tell the crowd is really digging it. Overall, a pretty solid live album.

It's not BAD I guess

I don’t think live albums have a place on such a list

Classic live guitar rock. Phil seemed like he had a lot of stage presence and charisma the dual-lead guitars were cool.

No major complaints, a pretty solid listen.

Really solid live album. Lots of guitar shredding. I also enjoyed the presence of the live performances. It is weird that it is a compilation instead of one concert but whatever.

I think I've heard that Lizzy was Irish, but didn't realize he was THIS Irish. You can really hear the accent during the crowd work. Live albums are hit and miss for me, but I dig this one. The songs sound clean and almost studio quality from a technical perspective. Then the crowd doesn't really come into play until the appropriate times. Well now that I went to look and see where it was recorded to see if maybe it was European which would explain the crowds politeness, I see that it was a collection of recordings from several places, and them there is a conversation and borderline controversy about potential overdubs of some tracks and that would explain the quality I was praising beforehand. Shame. That really took my motivation for listening to this down quite a bit. Favorite track "Jailbreak" 3/5

Never been a huge TL fan and this isn't going to change things up a lot. They do have some bangers though and for a live album, this is one of the better ones.

Too long but otherwise a good live album. They clearly had a good stage presence. 3.25/5

Live and Dangerous - Thin Lizzy. 3/5 The band sound great and play with tons of energy. A live album is always an odd one to review though. Do you give them credit for the quality of songs - even though that credit properly belongs to the studio recording? And regardless of how well they play (and Thin Lizzy really do play well) - you are listening to more than an hour of exactly the same mix of the same instruments. That calls for some endurance regardless of how much you love the band. I will say that I wasn’t bored though, 76 mins went in just fine.

first time hearing this band and frontman phil lynott. the live production is really good, especially on the 2022 remastered version. the band played exceptionally well. i enjoyed reading the lyrics and how stories are told in the songs (i liked "emerald"). however, a lot of the songs also felt repetitive to me; there aren't too many variations in the band's sound (at least in this live record). that's to say that the band's songs have a tendency to sound a bit generic. for this reason the middle part of this record felt a bit tedious to get through. of course, there are some really good moments during the first half and last half. sadly, not much left an impression on me.

It's good, but nothing that takes my breath away.

-i rolled my eyes when i saw this one… oh brother a live hard rock double album, can’t wait… but i ended up kinda fucking with it -I’m not familiar with the lead singer but he has a really good voice. though it’s not my favorite genre, i can’t help but love the hype and trademark blues rock energy present in a lot of these songs -Favorites are Jailbreak, Rosalie / Cowgirl’s Song, and Baby Drives Me Crazy

Not bad, but marks off for being a live album. I can never really seem to get the vibe for most live albums I hear. I might give some other releases from Thin Lizzy a chance in the future though Standouts Rosalie The Boys Are Back In Town 3/5

I liked it. Quite a few good songs.

'any girls in the crowd want some irish in them?'

It was OK, not sure it belongs here.

Heard this one before. A few good tunes in there. Sound like they are on top form at this gig.

A very good album, though ultimately being live detracts from it too much for us.

Spotify only had 4 of the tracks off this album available, but "but the boys are back in town" and "Still in love with you" classics. Can't give it more than 3 with most of the album missing though.

The day that I actually got this I went out to see some people got drunk and it was my first time stoned but this album just like the morning after was tiring, lazy and had a strange smell to it. But surprisingly still not as bad as expected 3/5

I'm generally not a huge fan of live albums, this one is pretty solid, though! Honestly, it's just kind of generic rock for the time. The hits are really good and deserving of being notable, but none of the other songs really stand out in any interesting way. If you love music from this era you'll love Thin Lizzy, but there's not enough on this album to consider it a greatest of all-time situation. That said, very few bands will ever have hits as iconic as "The Boys Are Back in Town". Favorite Song(s): Still in Love with You, The Boys are Back in Town

freakin awesome i think my friend emerson would like this a lot

That’s pretty rad. Great riffs and hooks and energy. Quintessential hard rock. Best song: Cowboy Song

Part of what I like about a live album is the energy of the crowd obviously during the songs but between each song too. This doesn’t have that, there’s the pause between songs. When I looked it up, I saw the overdubbing stuff but also saw that this is because it was complied from 3 different shows. The biggest takeaway for me was Still in Love with You. So good.

I should probably like these guys more, but for whatever reason Thin Lizzy is still just sort of ok for me. Live albums can be hit or miss as far as production goes, but the sound quality was excellent here. Really enjoyed the guitar riffs on Suicide and Sha La La, and the surprise Huey Lewis harmonica on Baby Drives Me Crazy was great.

A lot of good rock here...that 8-minute "Still In Love With You" might be my favorite. "Cowboy Song" into "The Boys Are Back in Town" was a fantastic transition. Drums at the end of "Sha La La" were a highlight for me. Fun fact if you didn't catch the introductions: "Baby Drives Me Crazy" has Huey Lewis on the harmonica. All of it sounds good....a little too good. Started skimming the Wikipedia page and it appears that A LOT of it was overdubbed in the studio. Sounds like there are conflicting reports on how much was live vs. studio-boosted, but I gotta give it 3 based off of that.

decent

A few nice songs

Enjoyable but not special

It was fine

Sounds like a good show. One of the few times where I'd probably enjoy live renditions more than studio versions.

usually i really like thin lizzy, and i also thought that this live album was extremely powerful. it’s so good and i love how some of the songs get dirtier than the og. i think my main problem was that the set list was a bit boring to me. everything seemed like the same pace/same sound/same energetic guitar riff. usually with thin lizzy i think they’re really good at mixing things up a bit, making more narrative music. this album just felt very rock themed??? idk, it wasn’t bad in any way, the song choices just bored me a bit

Not bad but not a relistening vibe

Solid. Enjoyed this one. The "little bit of irish" joke at the start was funny.

It didn't seem that dangerous! Thin Lizzy has some good songs but not much staying power for me - pretty cookie cutter 70s rock and roll. That being said this automatically gets at least a 3 for having The Boys are Back in Town.

I'm not their biggest fan but this was probably a fun show to be at. Not bad for a live album but why are live albums on this list.

objectively fun, objectively deserves praise. just plain old rock is not my favorite but this is enjoyable and I can feel how much more enjoyable it would be if it could be heard live.

Well this is having fun with itself. Kind of mindless, sounds easy to listen to, decent instrumentals. This is the other end of artistic rock where it's just wanting it to be a good time. Will never be a masterpiece but there are days for this and I get why it exists and it's as good an example of this style as anything. Makes sense to be on the list.

This is fun music, it's got a bounce. The production could be a little more dynamic. This is much longer than it needs to be. Some mediocre blues music.

Good sounding live album. Alright rock songs.

I like Thin Lizzy but am not crazy about live albums and this one doesn’t include Whiskey in the Jar so rounding down to 3.

It’s alright. Not familiar enough with the band to know of these are good versions of their songs. Not the most prolific band, kind of surprised they got a live album on this list. 3/5 Probably won’t listen again

Favorites: Jailbreak, Emerald, Massacre, Cowboy Song Thin Lizzy is a legendary band, and a lot of these songs are great. But I don’t think this is a great album. I understand this was pulled from a number of concerts, and overdubbed in parts. So a lot of it sounds fairly good but it doesn’t have a consistent mood or audience relationship. And some songs drag, especially since this is a double album. I think it's unfortunate that this was the one Thin Lizzy album they put on here.

Thin Lizzy is cool, and there's certainly some shredding here, but I can't really understand why this is on the list instead of a studio album. 3 stars, I guess?

I don’t think I knew any Thin Lizzy aside from the Boys Are Back in Town, but I enjoyed this more than I expected. Not sure why this specifically was on the list, but it was good. Also the Tower Theatre is in Upper Darby not Philly

Live und solider Rock. Gut aber bleibt etwas kantenlos.

The main highlight was the iconic “The Boys are Back in Town.” Unfortunately the rest of the album was rather lackluster and the audio quality poor. You could tell that the crowd was amped up, which is definitely worth something.

Me clocking in at the “Giving Live Rock Albums Three Stars” Factory.

I found this much more enjoyable than I expected and I am shocked 😳

liked songs: Emerald, Massacre, Cowboy Song into The Boys Are Back In Town, Baby Drives Me Crazy (for Huey Lewis) This was fun. Apparently, there is some controversy about how much of this album was overdubbed in the studio, but it was still a good time. 3

Achei ok

I was NOT in the mood for this album but it is really good. Very proto hard rock/metal with some incredible guitar playing and general a good time vibe. It was also interesting how many times I felt the 50s rock vibe throughout…. And who covers Seger in 78’? Pretty cool. Gonna round down…

Music to wear denim jackets, drink canned beers and giving the good ol' 🤘🤘to. Wasn't familiar with much more than the tracks played on the radio. Quite surprised by songs like "Emerald" and "Massacre" - I knew the band is sometimes mentioned as an early influence on metal to some degree (Metallica, etc.), but these song in particular sounds like the blueprint to Iron Maiden, much more so than I'd have thought.

I don't think live albums belong on this list so I listened to Jailbreak by Thin Lizzy instead. It was a decent classic rock album, elevated greatly by the megahit The Boys are Back in Town.

Thin Lizzy wasn’t part of my musical upbringing, so when I listened to “Live and Dangerous,” it felt like a fresh experience. Of course, I recognized “The Boys Are Back In Town,” but the rest of the album was new to me. I quickly picked up on the blues elements, which I found particularly enjoyable. While I can’t say I’ll go out of my way to explore more of their discography, this classic rock album was a fun listen.

As far as live albums go it's alright I guess.

These guys absolutely rocked. Awesome musicians, a solid live performance, and a great selection of tracks. But I don't think a live Thin Lizzy album should make it on a list of albums to listen to before you die. There's so many other live albums that could have been included instead of this one.

Too long. If it were shorter, it would be a 4.

Smooth, sultry, electric-guitar wailing 70s rock. Can't say I've listened to much Thin Lizzy in my life but this performance is really nice. The drums, guitars and vocals all harmonize so well together and it sounds really really nice. Finally, an Irish band that I can get along with.

This is peak dad rock

Live albums rarely do it for me. It’s so difficult to capture that gig vibe and this is no exception. That being said it is Thin Lizzy so it’s pretty good. They’re one of the bands I listen to and hear Chris singing along to in my head. Not a bad thing, just an observation.

I think this is an important example of a fake live album that everyone needs to listen to--dubbed studio recordings, recordings taken from various concerts, etc. Personal enjoyment: 3/5 Relevance to this list: 5/5

Liked it! Tracklist was pretty stacked but also with many bangers. But since ive learned about the background of the album i cant truly rate it as a "Live" Album so it its something between a best of and live inspired album. 2.5/5.0

In the guitar-as-phallos genre so popular among the post war baby boom generation Thin Lizzy is probably one of the better proponents. At least I enjoy Phil Lynnot as a singer. Don’t care so much for the incessant guitar wankery but this live album packs some power. Highlight: Massacre

No. Title 1. "Jailbreak" 2,8 2. "Emerald" 2,8 3. "Southbound" 2,4 4. "Rosalie / Cowgirl's Song" 2,4 5. "Dancing in the Moonlight (It's Caught Me in Its Spotlight)" 3 6. "Massacre" 3,2 7. Not bad, but very much a creature of its time. Excellent drum work throughout.

For a live album this fell a little flat. Even the hit “The Boys are Back in Town” was rough.

Started alright, but as it went on it became a bit tiring Standout: Dancing in the moonlight (it's caught me in it's spotlight)

Really good to start with. Tails off a bit and live album....

3 mostly just alright but the cowboy song into boy are back was so good it gets an extra point

Bit cheeky putting a live album on this list. But a great live album. All the classics. They own the stage. I wouldn't have put this on this list but no disrespect to Thin Lizzy

Right, another live double album I think. I don't mind the overdubs personally but for the first half of the album, I was a bit bored. The turning point for me was the one song I knew 'The Boys Are Back in Town'. Ok, I have to admit that it's catchy. The album really picks up from here and was pretty good. Not sure I'd listen again but if given an opportunity to see this show live, it does seem like it would be a good time.

Probably better live than enduring any of their recorded albums

It’s decent enough, but I find it odd that this is the pick from Thin Lizzy on this list. Jailbreak is a classic album, that would have been my pick. Maybe they wanted to capture more of their career without having to include multiple albums?

I thought the album was by a female rock star named Lizzy. It was not. Still pretty good, but likely will not revisit

Phil Lynott was a legend

FYI The Spotify album only has 4 tracks. Amazon Music does have the entire album. I’ve heard the big singles (Jailbreak and boys Are Back in Town) before. They were decent enough songs. I prefer the live version of Jailbreak to the radio edit; it just has a heavier sound. Boys, on the other hand, is better in the radio edit. The backup vocals in the live version are not good. Still in Love with You is gorgeous and the guitar solo really makes this track stand out. It is a beautiful ballad about lost love. The rest of the tracks were enjoyable and great classic rock. There are really talented musicians here and it shows in the riffs and solos. The only place where being alive album really hurt it was the end of Baby Drives Me Crazy. Overall decent album, I give it a 3.

I'm a little shocked this album is on this list. Live albums with lots of overdubs are cheating in my book. And the whole thing isn't available on Spotify, so that's strike 2. The musicianship on this album is incredible, overdubs or not. Really great playing all around but particularly drums. Brian Downey was incredible and underrated as a drummer. But here's the thing - as great as the playing is, I still just don't really like Thin Lizzy. I don't know what it is. I hate The Boys Are Back In Town, always have, but other than that I don't have any strong feelings about any of their music one way or the other. I'm not wowed by it, but I'm not put off by it. If Thin Lizzy ever comes up randomly, I'll probably turn it off to find something better. It's beige. For this album, 3/5 I guess?

It's not truly live so I'll knock it down a point but it's still fun, though somewhat basic, rock. 3/5

5.5/10

S'okay.

Most of the tracks weren't available on YT music for me to listen to. 😩

Love Thin Lizzy. Great live album.

For "the best live album of all time" this was just fine. For most songs, I just don't feel much difference between the studio version and this version. The crowd doesn't add a ton to the music until the last few songs. I just don't really resonate with this era of rock. Best Songs: Jailbreak, Still in Love with You Worst Songs: Johnny the Fox...,

Fun to listen to for the boomer rock throw backs, but I couldnt find much of it worth the hype of being on this list. Compared to Frampton comes alive, this album doesnt even come close, in my opinion. My favorite non obvious cut was Suicide. Didnt know Huey Lewis and Bob segar bith featured on this. Its also such a 70s/80s thing to do a live album and then go put overdubs on it 😂 the dead did this too

Two stars just for THE BOYS ARE BACK IN TOWN. 1 star for the rest. This sounds like it was a fun concert to be at, but the music doesn't rock my socks off for the most part (weird that the Spotify version they link here is only 4 songs when the full version is way longer. Feels like they didn't get a fair shake on this). Execution is super sharp (guitar and drums are so tight it's awesome to behold) but the songwriting isn't my favorite from this era. And the vocals on THE BOYS is a little disappointing – lead vocalist is flat on a lot of the fun high notes. Can't give em less than 3 for a classic though.

Great music, great performances you could really feel the energy of the shows. Not really a fan of live recordings but this was good.

This dragged for me by the end.

I want to give this a try as a non live album. Pretty catchy classic rock. I wouldn't skip it on the radio.

Nothing wrong with this. Good renditions of the songs and Phil Lynott has a great singing voice. Did it need to be made though? I struggle to understand the purpose of live albums, should one treat it like a greatest hits compilation? Or are they of interest because the artist does something new vs. the recordings, like new elements in the arrangement? Like Nirvana Unplugged, which is great. If it's the latter, I don't know Thin Lizzy well enough to tell whether this added anything. Wiki says it was made because the producer didn't have time for a studio album, so I'm not sure why this is that important. Like I say it's not bad but not worth more than 3

Całkiem fajne. Nie jestem fanem lajwów. 3/5

3 stars. a good live album it seems but not my thing.

Safe and inoffensive dad rock. The album being live doesn't really add anything to the overall feel or energy. I know parts of it were overdubbed and I wonder how much of that affected the feel (by making it feel less live...). The double album aspect also makes it feel too long, I would have appreciated it more I think if it were a tight 45 minutes instead of 75 (though I think the Spotify version has a coupleof extra tracks if the Wiki is right). I haven't really listened to Thin Lizzy before this and I probably won't listen to them much after this either. I feel like you could replace them with pretty much any 70s rock band and it would sound the exact same. The instrumentals are skillfully executed though, and there was nothing on it that made me actively dislike them.

Fun rock concert album but all the songs kind of sound the same.

Well, let’s rock! I began thinking that a trip to a TL gig would be a complete rock-out, but after a while I came to thinking it would be more of a nod along and a foot tapper, given that all the songs sound fairly similar. The crowd seem to be into it though, and there’s no doubt they do rock. You probably had to be there.

A live version of their greatest hits is kind of cheating isn’t it? They should have just put Jailbreak on the list. Also I like the comic book art on that one. And I like it when bands are really blatant about the fact that it is 13-18 year old boys who buy their records and so that is clearly who they are catering to. It’s always crazy to me that people describe Thin Lizzy as hard rock. I know the band isn’t hard rock because I kind of like them. Plus I have ears. Thin Lizzy is like Boston if Boston was 10% less poppy. Thin Lizzy is pretty good but has never been one of my favorites. Hearing this live album did not change that.

I’m generally indifferent to live albums. To truly enjoy one, you need to be a big fan of the artist, or at least recognize a good number of tracks. Even with concerts I’ve attended, I often find that these recordings fail to capture the electricity of the live setting or those unexpected moments that make a performance memorable. I’ll admit that I’m not a huge Thin Lizzy connoisseur, so I already fail my own test for enjoying this kind of album. However, I did see the band in Hammersmith several years ago—though, bizarrely, none of the original members were part of the lineup. What stood out most from that show was how the big hits translated effortlessly across decades, with both old-school fans and relative newcomers (like me) screaming along at the top of our lungs. Some of the deeper cuts were harder to connect with, especially without the context longtime fans bring. The same applies to Live and Dangerous. When the highs hit, they really hit—tracks like The Boys Are Back in Town and Jailbreak still pack a serious punch. But other parts of the album passed me by, lacking the same impact. Still, when those highs come along, the rush is undeniable. The ongoing debate, fueled by producer Tony Visconti, over whether the album consists of 75% overdubs or "just" 25% adds some intrigue, but at least guarantees the mixes are consistently strong. I suspect Live and Dangerous is included in 1001 Albums to Hear Before You Die more for its historical importance than for the recording itself. And if I’m being honest, I don’t see myself sitting down and thinking, “Ah, let me put on that live Thin Lizzy record.” Yet, I’m glad to have been exposed to it and appreciate its place in rock history, offering a new perspective on a legendary band.

Thin Lizzy is one of those bands that was better live than in the studio. There is a lot of energy in their performance and their music translates really well into a live performance. I know that a lot people talk about the overdubs, but every live album is cleaned up as much as possible regardless of the band: that's a fact. How you feel about a live album depends largely about how you feel about the band in general. I'm a 2-star Lizzy fan, but I give an extra for the energy that I've seen these guys put into a concert: something that doesn't fully come through on an audio recording.

je respecte les Irlandais

This album is so long. Also as a live album it isn't the best quality either. It's fine I guess. Less hair-metally than I thought it was going to be but still not exactly my cup of tea. 5.5/10 (2.75/5)

Never really listened to Thin Lizzy before but knew a couple of their popular ones. Good live album, some clear highlights for me as parts of it were quite similar. Not entirely sure why a live album was chosen over a studio one. Fav tracks: Dancing in the Moonlight, Jailbreak, The Boys are Back in Town

The boys are most certainly back in town.

Not sure why this particular compilation is on here, considering it is just an assembly of various live performances that show Thin Lizzy as he fun sweaty rockers then same as any of their full length proper.

Massacre is pretty cool song, the rest is alright. Not a fan of the slower ballads but prob a 3 here. I've just never really liked their sound much, and can't stand some of the radio hits; boys are back, etc. I think mainly it's the vocalist.

Not a huge Thin Lizzy fan. Best thing about TL is their harmony guitar parts. Can't stand Jailbreak and I have to be in just the right mood for "The Boys Are Back In Town". Assuming this is actually live and not a mix of live and studio overdubs like Kiss Alive, they were quite solid live. If I was more into TL, I'd probably love this album. As it is, it's just an average album for me.

I never was a huge Thin Lizzy fan, because the songs don't have anything special from other rock music from that era, but I never hated the either. Anyway, this is a live record that sounds better than the studio recordings, and I actually enjoyed it. I was not expectng this.

Thin Lizzy is great! I've never dove into much beyond the basics though. I like this and it's fun to listen to but, for me, it kinda just goes on and on. I'd put it on again if I wanted to listen to some rock jams as kind of a background thing.

I get why people like this and it certainly wasn’t bad but I couldn’t see myself wanting to hear this again. 2.5/5

Got some good stuff going on. Not for me tho

I mean the songs are great but not sure what was special about this particular performance to warrant it on this list

I balked a bit at the length of this and the fact that it’s live, but honestly as only a semi-fan of Thin Lizzy, this feels like the way to hear them. This feels like it really captures the sound of the band, who must have been killer live.

This was OK. I didn’t like the vocalist much, but the band was pretty good. This was long, harmless, and fine.

Decent live

A live album over an hour long is a bold choice. I've never listened to Thin Lizzy before. It was alright. I don't think I could name any songs, but it was enjoyable.

Always nice to hear every once in a while

It's okay but nothing extra

Not horrible considering I’m not a huge fan of live records usually and don’t much of Thin Lizzy’s music. The energy kept things interesting.

It's certainly live. Not sure about dangerous. Maybe I'd really appreciate this if I was more familiar with Thin Lizzy's music. They're capable performers and this certainly wasn't bad, but I'm not especially taken with it. But I did find myself engaged more often than not. Highlights: Emerald, Still In Love With You, Cowboy Song, The Boys Are Back in Town

I'm honestly never sure how to rate or review a live album. They're never really on my list when I want to listen to an artist's discography. This is a fine album? The musicianship is pretty damn tight, the performances definitely feel energetic, and the tracklist flows really nicely. I suppose your opinion on this LP will simply depend on how big of a Thin Lizzy fan you are; and I wouldn't class myself as a big fan. So if you're a big fan, this would probably be an easy 5. If not, it will teeter around the 3-4 mark. For me, it's a 3. If parts of this album came on while I was driving, I wouldn't complain. But I wouldn't be turning the volume up in excitement, y'know? I appreciate Thin Lizzy to at least some degree, they were just never really up my alley. However, if you were looking for a good introduction to the band this would actually be a good starting point.

Saw them at my school for a special assembly They had a couple of decent songs

The inherent problem with live albums is that they can never recapture the experience of being at a live gig. A two-minute drum solo is spellbinding when you're in the audience, pumped up and surrounded by other fans - the atmosphere carries it. Without that context, it becomes interminable, dull. Live albums provide nostalgia to people who were actually in the audience and want to relive the experience. Sure, the band know what they're doing and the musicality and performances are good. There were some cool tracks on this - 'Dancing in the moonlight', 'Massacre' and 'The boys are back in town', for example. For me, though, live music and recorded music should be kept separate, at least in rock.

Rock. Pretty good, but I’m not really a fan of live albums. I would’ve much rather heard the studio versions.

Okay so this one was sound. We know I love rock, we know I love live playlists and we know I love guitar. Well? I liked this album. Very good.

Album 493 of 1001 Thin Lizzy - Live And Dangerous Rating : 3.75 / 5 Not typically a big fan of live albums. Enjoyed this more than I expected. Always liked their studio stuff.

Old, hard rock. It's decent to me.

Really solid rock music. So much better than the KISS three chord glam rock of the era. There is nothing really groundbreaking here, and I'm not sure I need to listen to much more Thin Lizzy, but I enjoyed it.

Of course the jailbreak is gonna be at the jail

70s style hard rock. I knew of Thin Lizzy but, knowing Gary Moore's later work, I expected .... more. This is not bad by any stretch, but too long for the fact that there is not that much variation between the songs. 3/5

Felt exhausted just seeing a 1hr 16 min live album by Thin Lizzy going into this... but it wasn't that bad actually. I think I mixed it up with Alice Cooper. Anyways, had some decent songs, but nothing that really grabbed me, and won't be remembered either. Weak 3.

I really like Thin Lizzy, they just embody fun and sometimes political rock. This live album was a bit of a dud however. The mixing wasn't really there and you could never really feel the energy of the crowd or the live performance. I would've rather listened to one of their study albums.

A good live performance by a decent band. Unfortunately, like most other live rock albums, has one too many jam sessions that immediately makes me lose interest

Decent album.

good live little repetitive

I'm not a big fan of live albums. But aside from the vocals this one is pretty well recorded. And it is also just a fantastic guitar album, so not the end of the world about the vocals.

Great live band. Loved a few songs I remember as a kid.

Rock, live, 1978 -> 3

I don’t have any problem with Thin Lizzy. And jailbreak is a great album. But I don’t know that we need a live album too

emerald southbound the boys are back in town don't believe a word baby drives me crazy

Very listenable and atmospheric, didn’t realise they sang some of those.

I'm giving this a three because the songs are great and Thin Lizzy rocks. But this is not an album. In any universe. It's barely even an EP. 3

Not for me at 100

I enjoyed this while I wrote to and from work today. But it's not something that I'm going to suddenly decide to put on sometime in the future

Good live album

Solid, but no bangers.

THE BOYS ARE BACK IN TOWN More fun than I expected in a few places, but too long and too much filler.

64/100

It's very interesting hearing the vast influences that earlier bands had on Thin Lizzy and how thoroughly their lead guitarist as well as the pacing of their sound derives from those influences. I can hear a ton of Jimi Hendrix as well as the David Gilmour days of Pink Floyd.

It’s okay. I prefer thin Lizzys studio albums.

Only four songs of this album were available on Spotify- bit hard to give an honest rating. 3/5

Some decent songs but live albums shouldn’t be on the list. Just put the greatest hits on there

Some of the songs on this are really great, fast, hard, really great listens. And then there’s songs like Johnny the Fox Meets Jimmy the Weed that are so lame and boring. Still better than I thought, I was let down when I listened to some of their studio albums.

Not bad, if unremarkable. The guitars were good but overshadowed by the vocals. I’m not sure why this made the cut.

The Spotify version of this is only 4 songs. That seems like an appropriate amount.

Loved the rockers in this group

Interestingly, I actually expected to like this more than I did. It’s good but started a little slow for me, overall though it’s a good album.

Huh, better than I expected, but not what I expected either? Makes me want to hear more Thin Lizzy. But also wondering if they're a better live band and the studio stuff doesn't hold up as well. Terrible review, totally average. Sorry this one needs way more time in my ears.

Schlock rock. Decent

Noh tämä on Thin Lizzy ja livenä eli meno on hyvä. Biisit jopa tanssittavia. Hittimateriaalia tosin kuulostaa olevan yllättävän vähän, vaikka tässä varmaan olisi tarkoitus olla ”greatest” biisit? Mutta useampi bängerihkö, ml. ärsyttävä Boys are back in town. En rakastu.

Pieni (mutta pitkäkestoinen) ihme: yli tunnin live-LP, joka alkaa ehkä hienoisesti kyllästyttää vasta aivan lopussa. Tällä bändillä on toimivia biisejäkin, vaikka toki tulen jatkossa etsimään niitä studiolevyiltä. Soundillisesti soitto on asiantuntevan, pehmeän keinahtelevaa - viihdyttää kyllä. 3+

Live albums are typically not my thing. Boys are Back in town mixed with strong guitar flow made this more enjoyable than expected.

Good, ol' fashioned rock 'n roll; clean, energic vocals over driving guitars. It avoids the pitfalls of cock rock bands like KISS but it is still "light" hard rock with attitude. Though this list doesn't allow 'best of' compilations, a live album containing the best of an artist's work is fair game, and I'm fine with that. The band is tight, playing well with each and filling space without walking all over each other; they have mastered their instruments and perform both technically and musically together. Clean doubled guitar lines too. Self-assured and singing with personality, Phil Lynott commands the stage and keeps the listener's ear. He casts a spell on the audience and you buy all in immediately. Surprised I like this so much; it's not my normal cup of tea, but they have my attention. Phil does his best Hendrix vocally on "Warrior." Smart to jump into their biggest hit "The Boys Are Back In Town" as a segue from the previous song; it keeps the audience on their toes. These guys sound like they put on a great and energetic live show, and we even get a drum solo on "Baby Drives Me Crazy"!

I have a soft spot for people with roots in the Caribbean who go on to do big things on an international scale. Phil Lynott is one of those people, as he is half Guyanese. I am not the biggest Thin Lizzy fan, but their music always brings a smile to my face and this one did also.

The solos rip. I'd love to listen to this the next time the boys are back in town.

I probably wouldn't choose to listen to this album of my own accord, but I did enjoy my time with it today. It's the kind of thing I could see playing in the background in the garage on a Saturday night with the boys. Would go well with lite beer, hockey and darts.

Correcto

Wish it was longer, but a good live album. 3/5

Would rate it 3.8 but Lower than a 4.

Only managed to give this one a single listen, not intentional, just short on time today. Like any 70s hard rock band, I'm not giving this higher than a three because it's just not my thing really. That said, this is a strong 3. Yes, it has your standard long guitar and drum solos and over the top energy. This album also has insanely good groovy and bluesy bass lines, odd drum patterns, and a dynamic set list. The slower songs really help punctuate the high energy stuff, and generally I felt like the album as a whole flowed really well. It goes without saying that Phil Lynott has a great energy for this stuff; he surprised me with some of the personal depth on the lyrics sometimes. And yes, the solos are exhausting sometimes, but the guitarists generally did really well at keeping the solos solid throughout. All in all, a great album I don't see myself going to too often, but if hard rock and solos are your thing, I think you'll love this.

For extended periods of time, this doesn't sound or feel like a live album. Standouts for me where massacre and baby drives me crazy. I enjoyed it but it won't stick on my mind.

Not live and not all that dangerous either.

I've never been a Thìn Lizzy fan, but I obviously knew of them, and a few of their songs. This is alright, and really clean for a live album (it makes me wonder how much was overdubbed in the studio), and it's good to hear the bass so high in the mix but I guess that's not surprising. Not bad, not great, but that album cover is a sight to behold - Mr Lynott could have knocked my hat off!

Not my favourite band but this is a good live album. Nicely recorded and full of energy, the band are tight and driving, Phil's voice is expressive and strong. Oh apparently it's overdubbed. Well that explains that then. 'Massacre' is a corker and obviously so influential on twin guitar rock bands like Iron Maiden. I'm not converted though.

Lots of cool songs but I’m not a fan of the format! I didn’t find it as perfect of a Thin Lizzy listening experience as one could get, maybe just not a fan of the recording style. Favourite track: The Boys Are Back In Town

Live albums aren’t something I listen to often. I prefer studio albums - if I want to watch a live show I’ll go to one! Or watch old shows on YouTube so you can actually see it. What’s more, this isn’t even a true live album - it’s snippets from several live shows with studio recordings and crowd noise overdubbed. It’s neither a live album nor a studio album. So what’s the point? 3 stars because the songs are solid but the format means I probably won’t come back to this, and a double album at 1h 16mins is too long.

Fun tunes for a ride. Riffs moving towards metal, then back to funk. The recording itself is patchy. I couldn't help but wish I was listening to Hendrix instead.

Too many overdubs for me to really enjoy it. It is an epic band though!

Some songs were pretty good and I enjoyed them quite a bit but this is just too long

Conheço algumas musicas mas nunca ouvi inteiro. Fiquei animado para ouvir. Voz única. Instrumentação que eu gosto muito, com piano e baixo bem altos no mix. Muito swing e ritmado. Sonoridade me agrada demais. A voz é exagerada, intensidade máxima o tempo todo, seria bom se tivesse alguma variação de intensidade

Not my favorite

Some good tunes but a tad too long

Decent enough album. Not the greatest live album I’ve ever heard.

Expected another run-of-the-mill Hard Rock album. Got a live album that admittedly features above standard Hard Rock, but also overstays its welcome and lacks the energy I expect from a live recording. 3.5/5.

An enjoyable one - knowing who the heck the band are makes all the difference sometimes! Not always a fan of a live album but this one was one of the better ones I’ve listened to. Tapped my foot and nodded my head the whole way through

Really good live album. I enjoyed very much. Lizzy are not a band I have listened too much album wise but this was enjoyable and had all the mainstream hits. Favourite song: Jail break and the boys are back in town. Least favourite: All good Album artwork: cool

Immediately improved my mood today

Better than I expected. I haven't explored this band in any detail before, just know the hits.

Cowboy song into boys are back in town was definitely the highlight. It’s the kind of easy listening rock that my dad would like but sounds pretty boring to me. Rating: 2.9

It's a real rare double album that makes it seem worth it. This doesn't quite make the cut.

Nothing wrong with it, some good performances. Thin Lizzy were never my thing.

Pretty good, I like thin lizzy but I've never listened to a full album by them. This was pretty enjoyable if not a little long

When i read that they pieced this live album together from multiple performances, i was a little disappointed. 3.3 stars

Classic lizzy stuff

Props to a good performance that probably took a lot of energy to perform. I just honestly am not as much a fan of love albums of even my favorite bands, let alone one I am not as familiar with.
