Reviews (page 8 of 14)

Not as wild and interesting as some of their later stuff but still a very good record and a great debut

byrne's lyrics can be super lame, but they can be excusable when the song rules. great album.

Lovely smooth bass and thoroughly enjoyable album.

Very good.

Really good! Loved the music

Really enjoyed this journey! Wasn’t familiar with much of their work outside of the big singles

An interesting album that must have been way ahead of its time when it first came out. So far I only knew Psycho Killer and I would never have guessed that the song is older than mid-90s. From the polished sound and varied song-writing I would also never have guessed that this is a debut album. The album doesn't sound amazing to me either, but I did enjoy it enough to see myself re-visiting it.

is it good - yes i think so, do I like it - well not loads. i will kick the can another 10 years and try again then

As a recent Talking Heads convert I can confidently encourage anyone, who’s into any of their other albums, to give this release a listen. I love it almost as much as Fear Of Music. In saying that I absolutely love Fear Of Music so this one is still a favourite. Go put a smile on your dial! 4 Stars!

Ganska bra! Psychokiller är mmm bra

Groundbreaking.

Love this. Never heard it before. I'm a fan. Made me feel very productive!

Most excellent.

I'm surprised  every song on this LP is familiar since I didn't own it and for sure haven't listened to it in over three decades. It's interesting to see how much their music evolved from this album until Speaking In Tongues. Their music ended up being a much bigger sound with  many different layers. For sure they got better this is also very good. I didn't have to decide if it was 4 or 5 since, if a 5  I would need  to invoke my Fela rule and not give two 5's to the same artist in a week.

Goooood stuff

Maybe it's time to take of my rose tinted glasses with this album. I was a massive fan when I was a spotty teen, living on a diet of Monster Munch, cherry cola and danger wanks. I haven't listened to this reford in going on 25 years, so hearing it now and being transported back to that excitement, that optimism, that youthful exuberance that I felt then makes me feel that maybe, just maybe I'm not the old man I thought I was. It was a relief and a pleasure to rekindle my love affair -like sugar on my tongue.

I liked the album more as it went on and most of my favorite songs are towards the end of the album. It's definitely a Talking Heads album and as weird as I expected it to be. It's not one of my favorite albums but it deserved to be on this list for sure. Favorite songs: Uh Oh, Love Comes to Town, Psycho Killer, Pulled Up Decent 7/10

⭐⭐⭐⭐

OUI

2nd Talking heads album, and only a week in

An odd vibe just like Man Man. I'd have to be in an unusual mood, but it is fun. Includes Psycho Killer.

What an incredible first album, only giving it 4 instead of 5 because I know what’s coming for the band but this is pretty close to flawless

Jest to chyba drugi albumik gadajcych glow jaki mam na liscie, wiec nie bede nic nowego pisal o bandzie, sama muzyka jako debiut ma wiele do poprawy, ale czuc wyraznie brzmienie zespolu, zelaszcza na trakach takich jak psycho killer, czy otwierajacy love comes to town, witty lirycs with the dose of some exotic element for example use of french language, jest czyms co zdobylo bandzie rzesze wiernych fanow, bo juz nawet debiutancki krazek sprzedal sie dobrze, wiadomo ze zasluge ma tutaj banda ktora juz promowala sie wczesniej z ramonesami czy innymi rokowcami, jak z modern loversami, bo wlasnie do nich najbardziej sie upodobniaja tutaj jesli chodzi o styl, zwlaszcza o wokal, ktory ciezko w niektorych momentach nazwac spiewem, ale bryne wiedzial co robi recytujac witty lirycs over the pop rock shiting about nothing, jako ze to debiut to influencje z kazdej strony mozna wyczuc, ale jesli byly to wplywy osob takich jak lou reed, to wydaje mi sie ze pozytywnie wplynelo na to mozna teraz sluchac, troche nieporczna ta skala piecio gwuszdowa, bo jednak troche slabszy album niz remain in the light, ale jednak nie trojka, wiec zostaje czworka z zastrzezeniem, ze jednak jest to diament jeszcze nieoszlifowany

Was gonna go 3 but ends on a big high

This album is dope. 'Uh-oh, Love Comes to Town'? Such a track. Love the steel drums. David Byrne has ass burgers out the wazoo but whatever. Not as good as Speaking in Tongues but sufficiently freaky.

Tip top stuff! Much better than the other Talking Heads album so far encountered. Their best album? I should say so!

This is an astonishing debut album. Totally new and original sound, Art Punk is an apt description. Killer songs include Don’t worry about the government, no compassion, pulled up and of course, one of their very best Psycho Killer. I really wish they have half stars as this is a clear 4.5 for me. Yes it’s very good but not quite perfect. I’ll reserve that for another talking heads album, so to differentiate it this gets a really high 4

4 wegen Psycho Killer

The first and last songs are great! Everything else is just okay. I guess it's enough to earn 4 stars.

Mon hit: Sugar on my tongue

Loved the funkiness of the melodies. Whether it was the vocal line or the guitar line, there was always something fun happening.

Wasn't sure at first, but warmed up to it by the end. 4*

Amazing album. 8-9/10 1. Pulled Up 2. Uh-Oh, Love Comes to Town 3. Psycho Killer

Anything by the Talking Heads is always a good time. A solid debut album.

i really enjoyed this album. it was very funky

This has everything. Steel drums. Great guitar riffs. Top hot of the Talking Heads. Great 1st album.

Really funky, my favorite talking heads album I’ve heard

I listened four times through. Really great.

Optimistic, nice to listen to

Not as good as Remain in Light, but still absolutely banging. A lot of fun, but I prefer the later stuff when they had found their stride more. Enjoyably wonky, has no doubt influenced the way I look at music.

Very nice record, I liked the guitars a lot

Very cool album, keeps it interesting Gotta love psycho killer

Psyhco Album!

Really into this! I already knew Psycho Killer was great, but the rest is really catchy rock as well. Kind of whimsical too.

I mean psycho killer, that alone gives this 3

I love talking heads. I remember back in elementary school the middle school teacher asked everyone who their favorite artist was, everyone was saying Queen, I was proud to be the only one who said Talking Heads. Talking Heads 77 isn’t my favorite album by then though.

Wasn’t the best talking heads album but psycho killer is a great song

Great record!

Feel like I’m going to have heard their entire discography by the time we’re done here. I’m not complaining though

favourites: love>building on fire, uh oh love comes to town, new feeling, psycho killer

banger

psycho killer is great though

My sense after listening to this through the first time was a bit like George Carlin at the end of Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure..."They do get better, I promise." The album is fine but their later material connects with me better.

7 / 10

Pretty approachable talking heads. Upbeat, a bit more regular 70s rock? But with some quirks, parts remind me of primus and a little bit of weirder The Beatles in a strange way, namely Who Is It? and parts of Don't Worry About The Government. Favourite tracks: Uh-Oh, Love Comes To Town New Feeling First Week/Last Week...Carefree Psycho Killer

a classic. love that it feels like they were playing this right next to me.

Beside Psycho killer who is great, the remaining tracks are just okay-ish.

Nothing particularly special which is a shame

O álbum é bem interessante, contendo a música Psycho que é bem famosa

Doesn’t belong on the list. Not as good as their later albums.

i kind of enjoyed this, but its still kind of sounds like really bad and annoying funk. and i fuckin love funk. i jus dont understand the talking heads hype

Mhm I wasn't really paying attention while I was listening to it

The voice got old, but the guitars kept me listening. Was the steel drum real?

I am here for that steel drum. Oooh, and a marimba! This was a fun, funky album and there are some bangers, but I did quite tired of the vocals by the end.

Compared to the previous Punk albums I prefer the musicality of Talking Heads.

I'm not huge on David Bryne's voice, but can't deny how good some of the songs are. That said, future albums just knock this one out of the water.

Was this album named 77 because it was published in 1977? I wonder! First couple tracks, Uh-Oh, Love Comes To Town, and New Feeling, are good songs but nothing incredibly catching yet. Onto the third now, I like the lead singer's (David Byrne?) voice, it has been very distinct throughout the album so far. Just started the 4th track, Happy Day, and it might be my favourite so far. Who is it, the 5th track has just topped Happy Day. Now that I'm feeling more into this genre, I decided to re-listen to the first two tracks, and I enjoyed them a lot more this time around. Starting the 6th track now. I like the lyrics. Resonates a little? 7th song now. The Book I Read. Ooh I like this one more than some of the others. Maybe my second favourite so far? Or even the first. Yep. Okay, adding this one to my Disco Elysium playlist. Nothing super interesting to say about the next two songs, also kind of just forgot to write something. Onto the more well known track now, Psycho Killer! Yep it's catchy. Espoir = power Gloire = glory Last track now... Final thoughts, I'll probably rate this a 3? It was decent, and the crtique I have isn't anything substantial or super technical. I didn't enjoy some of the lyrics and repetitiveness but these are things you cannot judge too heavily when it comes to music, since they are all subjective elements of good music. Maybe just not my genre. Excited to start this 1001 album journey, I wish they gave you more albums per day but maybe I need to get into the habit of doing things for a short period consecutively.

Must have been a cool record to experience in the late 70's. Cool guitar, vocals and bass tone!

Grab debut. Aunque me cansan los TH tiene grandes rolas y Psycho Killer is not even the best.

Fine overall. No standouts.

Fun! É um album divertido. Até gostei! First Week, last week... carefree!

Thoroughly enjoyed

Muy divertido e inesperado. The book I read fue mi favorita.. nananana ame. psycho killer me la salte porque me da recuerdos de vietnam un poco. Dont worry about the government me gusto mucho tambien.

Muy divertido e inesperado. The book I read fue mi favorita.. nananana ame. psycho killer me la salte porque me da recuerdos de vietnam un poco. Dont worry about the government me gusto mucho tambien.

David byrnes fanatical ramblings over some high energy synth wave rock was a great time. Not necessarily coherent but definitely one of a kind and laid the ground work for him to be one of the most influential musicians of his time.

Good album.

I believe that you need a unique kind of mind and taste to really like The Talking Heads and David Byrne. I can see their brilliance and all, but it was never my cup of tea, except those tracks that found their way into the wide open. Like Psycho Killer. That said, there are actually some other tracks that I kind of liked.

6/10 I’ve tried to like this but too high energy. Psycho killer is nice though

his voice is so nerdy....

Again this felt quaint. Cool but quaint

A catchy melody here and there but overall quite forgettable

LOLOL get me out of the 70s! This is another "great album" that isn't fully to my personal taste. I like this OK without LOVING it. A little bit of Byrne goes a long way for me but I know I'm in the minority and he is a legend and an institution. (FWIW I like the artist/guru/institution of David Byrne much more than Byrne's music itself :) )

Z: it’s a fun listen, it’s easy to see how David Byrne has carved his own path as a front man. 7.2/10 Z fav song: Psycho killer Z for fans of: quirkiness and fun and David Byrne H: I def fell asleep during this one. Nothing special it’s just rock 5/10 H fav song: Psycho killer

Pretty boring cover. But oh boy wait till you hear the music. 3/5

Big Talking heads fan but I don’t think they really crystallised their brilliance until Fear of music. You can hear glimpses of the funky, alt pop brilliance to come on this album but some of the songs feel a little twee, art school for my liking. Psycho Killer is a great single and there are some great choruses. In isolation it’s good but great, viewed as part of their full cannon it’s better 3.3

I didn't enjoy this as much as I thought I would.

Me gustó una rola pero es rolón

I didn't listen to Talking Heads: 1-76, so I think I was missing a lot of plot points

Brilliant lyrics and a few great songs, sometimes the music gets lost for the art though.

Psycho Killer... KESKECÉ— FAFAFAFAFA FAFAFAFAFA FAR BETTER Anyway, the rest of the album is alright.

Expectation: -> Talking Heads could impress here. After listening: -> Enjoyed this some. I love Burning Down the House (which isn't here). This album is solid but lacked that song's powerhouse energy. Spotify tells me that Psycho Killer has 727M streams, which befuddles me. A good song but not sure I get the obsession. This is probably as close to a 4 as an album can get (for me) without getting there. Track ranking: Uh-Oh Decisions Book Psycho Government Who Is It Compassion Feeling Happy Pulled Week

Good album, Psycho Killer was the only one I knew before.

Very inspirational

Not sure how I feel about this album. I'm familiar with their later work, but this is the first time listening to this album. For a debut in the late 70's, it's pretty good, but it's definitely not their best work.

(70/100)

Very solid weird rock album. Listening to it I couldn't help but compare it to Remain in Light to the extent I went back to relisten to that immediately after this record, and I've come to find I regard them both practically the same but in a different way. This has a way straighter enjoyment curve compared to Remain in Light that gets to higher highs, but lower lows as well. In the same way as well I can see how plenty can love this if they have personal connections to the band or the album or they are much more open to their eccentricity, but I mostly enjoyed it then moved on.

It’s a solid effort in the inimitable Talking Heads style, but nothing earth-shattering

Nothing special to me. It feels so so tense in a good way though.

Not my favorite Talking Heads album but it's still pretty good. Very unique and instantly recognizable music. Seems like it would have been pretty ground breaking when it came out. Ahead of it's time type album. I'll probably listen to this many more times despite their other work being superior in my opinion.

I was looking forward to this when I saw it pop up as my daily album but felt a little disappointed. I was hoping for a 5 star album but I think 3 is appropriate here. Hopefully better talking heads album to come.

Couple of standouts but this is very proto for talking heads. Cool to hear some of the ideas that would go so far in later releases though.

I respect his commitment to the vocals. He was really going for it with the wailing. This is neither an entirely negative nor entirely positive comment btw

Fun album, but samey and somewhat ephemeral. I like some of the hits from Talking Heads like Psycho Killer but as an album found it lacking. The vocals don't do much for me, the instrumentals aren't particularly challenging or interesting. It's an easy listen but also won't stick in the hippocampus. 3/5

I only knew Pyscho Killer, which I heard a lot on the radio as a kid. I can see how this was ahead of it's time in 77, early new wave or whatever that went into the 80s. But still, it was just ok for me.

Talking Heads is a little too Kraftwerk for me, but I must admit there’s absolutely nothing like them.

Another really good effort from the Talking Heads. All of their albums that I’ve listened to are solidly good, but I keep chasing the magic of “Fear Of Music” and not finding anything that quite captures it. There are a few standout tracks that I would call great songs, but holistically it doesn’t reach that milestone for me. Which is fine, really good is still really good and I’ll never argue with listening to the Talking Heads.

Some interesting riffs and upbeat music. Many were the same tempo. Reasonable middle of the road stuff.

Good album. Would probably be a four with a few more listens but I'm woefully behind so haven't the time.

Psycho Killer = banger, everything else I again ask why? I just don't really get Talking Heads that much

A few funky moments, but overall not really my thing.

Good background work grind music

Wait I love! It’s giving music in the background of a teen movie where they’re spending the day on the beach and in a cute little town.

Favs- psycho killer (ofc) and pulled up. Will revisit when I have more time to sit and listen to the lyrics, but for now, good vibes and some iconic hits.

One thing I’ve learned from this project is that it turns out I like Talking Heads singles, but apparently that’s as far as it goes. I would have never guessed!

Pretty good. Happy to hear Psychokiller but overall not as good as some if their other stuff.

Funky and fun, the songs didn’t grab me initially but I’d like to give this another listen

Trop classique

80's memories

I have never loved the talking heads but this album was a pleasant Friday morning listen

Much better than the last Talking Heads album we had. More upbeat and had a fun quirky sound. I enjoyed this one.

What a playful and fun album. Not exactly what I was expecting to listen to when this popped up but enjoyable nonetheless. I did not have steel drums being played in Uh-Oh, Love Comes To Town on my bingo card for sure. I can see how this debt album made Talking Heads a household name with tracks like Psycho Killer and the aforementioned lead off tune. A good listen that left me pleasantly surprised.

Sure. Fun. What you’d expect from a Talking Heads album. I’m down for this.

This is the Talking Heads I expected. Great songs. Great album by the OGs of new wave.

:ratjam: Favourite song: Tentative Decisions, Psycho Killer

Immediately more upbeat and poppy than Remain In Light. Still has that light funk feel. Ah New Feeling has that new wave feel (pun intended?) I was missing. It's all fine funky new wave, but it doesn't have the edge or bite of Remain In Light Love Goes to a Building On Fire has a proto-Right Start feel, so a proto-proto-Once In A Lifetime Best track - New Feeling, The Book I Read, Pulled Up, Love Goes to a Building On Fire 3 or 4 stars? If I hadn't heard Remain In Light first would I have rated this higher? 3 stars

Strange album. Sound kinda cool, remind me of YinYin. Listen to some more of their songs, psychology lyrics.

I like these guys in moderation.

I didn’t hate it

A few good songs, but the Talking Heads have not stood the test of time IMO.

I actually really enjoyed this and it made me want to dance. Thank you.

Good but not there best.

Only knew Psycho Killer, rest of the album is pretty forgettable. Also unclear why they have more than one album on this list.

I was looking forward to this but it did not live up to my expectations, even though it has Psycho Killer on it. It's quirky to a fault and dissonant, like the ancient recessive gene of jazz randomly decided to make itself shown in a pop record.

Psycho Killer is killer. Another great group I ignored at the time. Who knows why. Some great tunes here, but some marginal ones as well. I don't think they'd hit their groove yet.

Well, based solely on the first listen I think Psycho Killer is leagues above the rest of the tracks. Who is it? is interesting enough that I can clearly recall the melody but the rest kind of blends into one another and the lyrics are too abstract for my liking. Enjoyable though, was tapping my feet the entire time. Will definitely revisit it. Favourites: Psycho Killer, Who is it?, The Book I Read, No Compassion

I’m surprised that this album is the one that won it. My desire to listen to the talking heads has majorly decreased for some reason. I saw one of John hamm’s character singing a talking heads song in a tv show and for some reason that rubbed me the wrong way and made me just not want to listen to them

The Talking Heads have never really been my thing. I know some people will say David Byrne is a genius, but I just find them to be slightly annoying. To be sure, they have some excellent songs, but too often those are few and far between. There were some fun aspects of this record. Psycho Killer is an excellent song, though it’s the clear highlight of this album. No Compassion was another track that I really liked. As for the rest of the record, however, it all just kind of blended together. As a debut, it’s good. That said, it’s overall pretty average. 3 stars

While I respect their impact on art rock and alternative rock and the new wave and synth pop bands that they inspired, the only full length album that really needs to be on here is STOP MAKING SENSE, the others on this list could probably go. STOP MAKING SENSE is the definitive version of their most essential tracks. If somebody only had to time to listen to one Talking Heads album before they were going to kick the bucket, that would be the one I would recommend. In my opinion, "Pyscho Killer" is the only relevant track on this album. As an aside, Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz are the best things about this album.

Formative Talking Heads. Not something I ever really return to, but I don't dislike it at all.

Alright but meh in places

meh. psyco killer is awesome, rest of album was ok

Every time I listen to another Talking Heads album, I realize how much all I need is Stop Making Sense. Except for Fear of Music. I really like that album. I like 3-4 songs on this album. That's not enough to say I MUST hear it.

Psycho Killer is a great song. Unfortunately a lot of this album just feels like less good versions of Psycho Killer - quirky pop rock with social commentary, but not done as well.

i enjoyed its instrumentals and experimental qualities that make it stand out. I don't like the vocals a lot of the time, it clashes with me personally, and it's a bit annoying. However, Psycho Killer is where this vocal tendency is at a minimum, so it's one of my favourites of this album. It's a classic hit for me.

A little difficult to get through at some points but overall a solid album.

Explores existential themes, just not as dramatically as i would like: lyrically but not as instrumentally as Godspeed for example

Honestly prefer Remain in Light and its funkyness

Not the best Talking Heads. I liked some of it, and some was incredibly grating. I think I'll just listen to the hits from this one moving forward. 5/10

psycho killer is amazing but listening to an hour of it is annoying

Didn’t like it as much as I though I would, also my rating system is shambles changes daily

I cannot pretend to be the biggest lover of anything David Byrne, so I won't. I do, however, love the whimsy and joy that he seemingly injects into each song he makes.

i guess not really my album, didn't feel like i connect with any song there :(

doesn't really compare to some of their other albums

Not my favorite.

It took me a while to get into the Heads. Now I’m all bout it

Not their best by most metrics but still an outstanding debut. Favorite track: Psycho Killer

The strangeness and whimsy makes it standout from basic pop but also limits it from being great by creating a distance between the artist and listener that the best pop erases. Fine line between baroque and over manicured that Byrne is always walking. Usually works great but occasionally off putting. Overall a good album that my guess is not many people love

- A little big forgettable - Psycho Killer is a classic

I think that the lead singer’s tone of voice is far from what I usually gravitate toward, yet I still found myself envisioning fun scenarios like me and my friends in a speeding car with the windows down. I particularly liked the rock instrumentation on this album. It emitted a sporadic energy that conveyed a sense of freedom in expression, which was reminiscent of the colorful 1970s era. ><//>

Psycho killer is a timeless classic, but rest of the album is just meh

WishI liked this more but this is just about the same quality as every other Talking Heads album I've heard. Psycho Killee and Uh Oh Love Comes to Town are really good and there's a couple other pretty good songs sprinkled in

Psycho Killer is badass…the rest of the record is just ok. 6/10

Uneven but has some great tracks. And K is definitely biased toward

Reminded me more of the police than I thought it would! They have some sound overlap. I adore psycho killer. I have to imagine Tyler the creator’s sugar on my tongue makes some reference to the talking heads’s song, but I haven’t found the connection yet if there is one.

Liked, didn’t love

Um I think the Talking Heads aren't really for me. I like it just fine but David Byrne's voice usually doesn't spark joy with me. It's weird because I think it works very well in Psycho Killer and This Must Be The Place, but maybe it's just because I listen to those more than every other Talking Heads song combined because they're very different. Perhaps if I listened to this album 100 times over I'd think it was better but It's just okay sounding to me.

Not a bad album to start a career with but far better would follow. Psycho Killer is the best track by a mile

Psycho killer

Easy listen but nothing special

I can see why some hold them in high regard.

7/10 flojo. No recomendaría este disco a nadie. Canción rescatada: Psycho killer

No tenía idea de physic killer. Buen album

Oh, it's the ones that has Psycho Killer. Fa Fafafa fafafa fa faafa. Aside from Psycho Killer, this album is a pretty mediocre pop album lacking in variety. Indeed there is a weird dissonance in the heavier tones of psycho Killer and the near bubblegum pop tone of everything that comes before it on the album.

Too chipper for my taste

no lo termine de escuchar jje

Upbeat, lively and fun. Favourite Track(s): Psycho Killer, The Book I Read Least Favourite Track(s): Who Is It?

This is a hard one to rate. I did find most of this album really enjoyable with a few standouts but I did feel like something was missing considering the reputation Talking Heads have. In between a 3 and a 4 for me

Uh-oh love comes to town - fun rhythm, fun lyrics. The steel drum is magnetic. It's a simple song, but in a very good way New feeling - not a fan of the vocals nor lyrics, the rest is okay but not groundbreaking. Easy listen. Tentative decisions - nice cowbell, vocals again not my favorite. Snare drum is fun, cadence in this song is different and interesting. Happy day - very annoying vocals, to me, the random high note in between. Again the rest is okay, but not great. Who is it? - cooorny lyrics, lame love song. But I do like the rhythm guitar en decisive drums No compassion - great lyrics, resonates with me, i think this song is the best so far. But still not a fan of the vocals. Wow, an actual bridge. The guitarist gets some room to explore, which pays off well. The book I read - na na na ooh ooh aah, you are the book I read bla bla. Just not interesting to me. But, the song itself is fun to listen to. The vocals are okay in this one. I like the piano the most. Dont worry about the government - positive lyrics, kinda funny honky tonky ahh type beat at the beginning. I don't like the loud snare, the drums in general I don't vibe with. Okay song in general. First week/last week - boring lyrics, always about women and stuff. But fun beat, I love the guiro in the percussion. Guitar is kinda standard. Vocals do have a nice cadence, the high notes fit well in this song. Saxophone is a vibe. Psycho killer - nice bassline beginning. I know this song, of course, but wasnt aware it was from this album. Best song till now, honestly. Most interesting variety between sections in the song. Pulled up - positive lyrics, this one feels like the rhythm of the vocals are more important than the content. The guitar is simple but fun. But overall not very impressed with this song. It fits well as a last song for what for me was a quite mediocre album.

Didn’t love it but appreciated it. Maybe they’re like Radiohead for me

Too mellow for my taste. It tended to meld into the background even when I was actively listening. I only realized it was done when Greta van Fleet kicked in with a much more insistent guitar line

Van genoten 3,5

Always brilliant but David Byrne’s voice has always grated on me and it’s still true here. Clearly a classic but I never choose to play it.

Ok so like a lot of debut albums you can see and feel where they are going. Like the outline for a great book but it's missing some things. That's this album. It's not bad, it's not good, it's just missing something. Psycho Killer is complete, the rest of the album is close but not there. Worth a listen for the historical context. It makes me want to deep dive on them and listen to their stuff in order and see how they build over time.

Interseting listen, but sometimes to experimental for me. Did like some songs, Psycho Killer is a lovely classic. Should definitely relisten to it. 1. Psycho Killer 2. Uh-Oh, Love Comes to Town 3. Pulled Up

Most famous song on this album “Psycho Killer”, monotone vocals

Enjoyed, but not my favourite talking heads album. I think I need to give it more spins.

Psycho Killer makes it a full listen, A lot of good early Heads, too.

Sometimes talking heads can wear obnoxious after a while but this album was less intense.

a few good songs but the rest is maybe a bit too freeform for me

No private session used for Spotify. I think I mentioned this before, but I went through a huge Talking Heads phase about 20 years ago, twenty years late, but still.

Very cool, never have dug into their catalog, but was pleasantly surprised! Especially the first couple of tracks, they really pull you in.

# Album Name: Talking Heads 77 # Artist: Talking Heads # Rating: 3/5 # Comments: Not bad. Not great either. One massive song surrounded by some average stuff. I'll give it a second listen because sometimes TH material needs some time to grow. # Top Tunes: Psycho Killer # Would I listen to it again? Yes

Album showed up. I like that Talking Heads have a distinct sound, but I’m more of a “song here and there” fan rather than an entire album at once.

Not bad. only listened to a few songs though, hence i previously had two songs by them on my main playlist.

I felt British Rock vibes, but learned they're American! I enjoyed the album.

Unsurpringly David Byrne still kills it. Great album, very fun listening to, some really solid songs. Psycho Killer slaps so hard, but I was taken aback by the strength of the rest of it. Really good album.

not my go to TH record, but Tina is really ripping on this one! fun stuff. top track: Love Goes to a Building on Fire

I like a little bit of talking heads. But a whole album was a bit too much for me.

Nothing much wrong; nothing for me

Goobers. I definitely like Talking Heads in their 80s era better. Psycho Killer is a classic.

I enjoy talking heads but I don’t think in any way they are required listening. I feel like this album is only special because it’s their debut and was somewhat different from other acts at the time mostly just their unwillingness to be anything but themselves.

Not their best effort, but I always appreciate some Talking Heads in my ears.

Psycho Killer is such a great song! The rest of the album is solid, but it feels like it's missing the quality that makes me really like other Talking Heads music. Probably because this is their debut album so they hadn't blossomed into their quirky sound yet. Most of the album blended together for me without anything standing out.

Honestly not my favorite from the heads. I prefer their later albums, I think the style of singing on this one is just not for me. Other than Psycho Killers, I wasnt really a fan of many of the songs due to the talk singing.

Pretty nice but not something I’d listen to again

Quirky nervous energy 🎶

I wish I liked this more

Everyone knows the song ‘Psycho Killer’, but what about the rest of the album? It was ahead of its time, for sure; most of the album has a very distinctive “80s flavor” to it, though there are some tracks that incorporate disco and classic rock elements. Musically there’s a lot to like, and many of the songs are a fun listen, but the lead singer kinda sucks all the goodwill out of the album. His halting lyric delivery and high-pitched voice combine into one unpleasant package. I’ll give it a 3/5.

I quite enjoyed it in places, a few good tracks a few not so good. Ive never been a great fn of David Byrnes voice but it was ok.

Overall I'm left feeling pretty impartial. It's quite fun but never reaches really fun. It's easy enough to listen to, but to say it's great would be a bit of a stretch. It's fine. Another one I'd not turn off.

It's a fine debut but they get so much better than this.

3/5 ok not something I would remember probably

Some amazing background music

Just ok. Outside of 2-3 great songs...

Aldri helt skjønt greia.

It's alright, there's a couple of good tracks, but nothing worth listening to before the curtain falls.

electrix

I think it's time to stop making sense and finally get tuned into all the hype around Talking Heads. Believe it or not the only Talking Heads project I have heard in full is Remain In Light, so I am officially changing that with my brand new discography dive into the acclaimed New Wave band that still gets all the white boys quirked up over 45 years later. I was very surprised to see that this album is a lot more simple than most people make this out to be, I also want to add I think it is super weird if this is your favorite album out of their whole discography. This very by the books New Wave and Art Punk album doesn't seem all that special now, with the exception of Psycho Killer, but when this came out it was at the beginning of a new era for popular music and somehow Talking Heads found themselves right in the middle of it all. This is a pretty straightforward album during their more rock era, though I will say this is a damn good debut for a sound that was not even a year old at the time this came out.

the instrumentals are really good but genuinely cannot stand the guy's voice

Maybe every Talking Heads album doesn't need to be on the list. It's fine. A strong debut, but they get much better. 3.5 rounded down Heard before? Yes Owned: No 50/217 (23%) Will I get: Maybe

I feel like I need to listen to all the talking heads albums back to back for a bit of a compare and contrast as each time I listen to one I’m like, okay yeah cool.

I do like the Talking Heads, but in small doses. 16 songs is a bit much.

I didn't like this one quite as much as MSABAF but it was cool to hear what Talking Heads sounded like on their first album.

Angular art rock is not really my thing, but this doesn't sound quite like anything else I've heard on this list, and that's good.

Psycho killer still gets a ton of airplay, classic. David Byrne had a very unique voice

Some stand out songs and the beginning of an iconic band

Didn’t hate it but didn’t love it either. Thought I would like it more and even gave it another listen, but it just didn’t click for me.

its giving 3

My thoughts are pretty much the same as "More Songs About Buildings and Food" which I listened to before this. The album sounds way ahead of its time and its influence is still felt today. That said, their music just really doesn't connect with me on a personal level.

I'm disappointed that I don't love this as much as I should. Album opener 'Uh-Oh, Love Comes To Town' kicks the album off in style and sets the mood for the rest of the record. We get a whole lot of weirdo funk that doesn't alternate that much. There was a calypso vibe at the end of the first track and I wish they explored their world music influences further throughout the rest of the record more throughly. I found a lot of the tracks blend into each. They have good sound, driven by a killer rhythm section and David Byrne's anxious vocals. With its iconic bass line, 'Psycho Killer' is the obvious highlight. Most bands don't put out debut albums this well put together, but this is held back knowing that they are capable of.

It’s alright. The first several songs I enjoyed; it lost me at Happy Day - too whiny - then the songs all started to sound the same until Psycho Killer, which is obviously a classic. David Byrne’s voice can be really grating after a while. Meh. (3)

Persevered for psycho killer but probably didn’t love the rest

Overall it’s a really good album. The minimalist arrangements really allow the lyrics and other individual parts like the drums, guitar and the base to really shine through. I feel like it’s a really brilliant record despite me not being familiar with their other records.

meh, this was alright. 3 stars

Haven't yet appreciated it.

Great record. I never loved this band as much as others though. I really love certain songs from them across their discography, but I have to be in a really specific mood to actually throw a whole record on.

I was shocked at how punchy and energetic this album was, it was enjoyable to listen to!

Already listened. Solid 6/10. Not quite on full form here but some bangers like 'Psycho Killer'

'Psycho Killer'

Was okay but some songs sounded the same.

Think I might've enjoyed this the most out of Talking Heads 6.5/10

What a start. Their best work was definitely still to come.

Enjoyed this one

okaish, i'll give it a 3/5 the instrumental stuff was fire but the lyrics were idk i just didn't like it as much man

Psycho Killer very much fits with the rest of the songs, but at the same time, I feel it is more accessible to listen to than the rest of the songs - they are pretty out there.

Talking heads for a full album is not what I expected. The voice becomes kind of annoying after awhile and the melodies sound similar. But it's by no means bad, it's alright

This fun to listen through, I've always meant to! Obviously Psycho Killer is the standout hit, but the other tracks have the same trippy vibe.

another day another Talking Head?

Yep, they had it from the start - it's awkward at times, but they'd hone that into a really focused idiom much more successfully after this bright debut. Favourite tracks: New Feeling, No Compassion, Psycho Killer

Opening track is one of the most fun opening tracks I've heard in a while. Talk about setting the tone. Album goes into auto pilot for a a little until it slows down into happy day. No compassion changes the vibe completely big fan of this track..almost experimental on an experimental album A high point comes around the last quarter of the record. Overall a fun and playful track list. Love the talking heads. Hard to frown when listening to any of their stuff

Enjoyed more than i thought. Jumpy. “Augtheuehe” -talking head

English Music at its best

Nothing really stood out particularly Best - phyco killer

Very bright and youthful album, though not quite as polished as their later music. A super fun listen and there are some fantastic tracks on there for sure. The B-side in particular is stacked. Favourites: New Feeling Don't Worry About The Government Psycho Killer Pulled Up

hmmmm, i do really love some talking head songs, but i just couldn't love this album - too byrney

Simply bc of first listen

Nice and of course ahead of their time kind of.

Nice bass on first track. Funkier softer feel to first few tracks. Then edgier more intense No Compassion (until change in tempo). Thought of Sparks with parts of Don’t Worry About The Government. Psycho Killer the stand out track. It seems out of kilter to the other tracks. 3.3

This album probably needs more listening work to really get to know it. This score based on one listen wherei found the first track and obviously Pyscho Killer the best.

Didn’t grab me as much as MSABAF or RIL.

196/1089 Third Talking Heads album of this project so far, still find the style of singing here a bit irritating most of the time but the production and instrumentation’s good it’s a good album, perhaps my favourite of the 3 and i think it ends on a strong note. don’t need/intend to revisit it but i think the style has sort of “clicked” to where i can appreciate it more tha i did before faves: Psycho Killer, Pulled Up, Don’t Worry About the Government, First Week/Last Week… Carefree 64/100

#254/1001. I think I have two Taking Heads LPs missing from my collection: the first and the last. The band is great, but perhaps these two albums never were the ones to go out for, when money was tight, and local record shops and their selections were scarce. The band is still quite ripe here, no doubt that they already had found their unique slot in a musical landscape which soon would be called New Wave, but perhaps still more full of ideas rather than means to execute them as songs or production experimentations. My initial experience from TH albums has been that "there is one hit", but after each listening time the beauty and complexity and multilayered construction of each and every song slowly reveals itself, but somehow I don't feel this album would do that. Perhaps I need more tiles to listen to it through.

Pretty solid and enjoyable. It was a good change of pace

"Psycho Killer" is the best track on here, the rest range from okay to mildly annoying. I really wish I liked Talking Heads more but I dunno if they're too artsy or experimental or what but I just don't enjoy more than about three of their songs.

not something i think i would ever go back to, but to say i didn’t enjoy it at most points would be a lie. love the guitar and drum beats, great head boppers & some important messages.

Really fun, just as weird as I would expect. The bass lines were amazing!

I liked this, but not as much as a lot of other people do. Is this album the musical equivalent of one of the books on the bookshelf that people have visible for their WFH online meetings that people can see in the background, but isn’t actually listened to very often. If I bothered to buy stuff then that’s what this album would probably be the equivalent of for me. It’s fine, but all the songs are effectively identikits - twangy guitars, heavy base, off beat vocals. It’s fine, but it’s just that. I’ve walked past the hype merchant in favour of the reality pedlar.

Not a fan of New Wave, but seems like this album was at the forefront of the New Wave era that took over the 80s. It took 3 listens to kind of enjoy the album a bit more and see beneath the hood a bit. I originally hated No Compassion and Don't Worry About The Government, but after listening to them a couple of times I started to enjoy it. I like the punk sarcastic attitude of both of them. Psycho Killer is the big song on this album and i've never heard of it before somehow. It was ok. I appreciated that some of the songs had a message and even though it sounded like just random rambling, I feel like that was the entire point. Like an ironic album that sounds like nothing if you're just listening, but if you actually focus, the message is clear. It's not that deep, I just think most people just listen but don't actually hear anything.

I think this is the 3rd album I heard from this band. I have a little more appreciation for their music. This album is the best I've heard from them.

Um bom álbum.
