Reviews (page 7 of 14)

i love this album so much. it was really good and catchy. 8/10

Great album with classic songs. One of my favorites and a showcase of Talking Heads style.

Muitas boas músicas além de Psycho Killer, mas eu realmente acho que Psycho Killer não é lá tudo isso então vou mandar um 4

This album is so much fun. Enthusiastic vocals, witty lyricisms and a groove that makes you want to dance around the office. İts a record that makes you smile.

Still pretty top notch

Psycho killer... forgot how much I liked this song

First off, I’m gonna be honest when I saw the band I didn’t recognize them and couldn’t think of a song. Then I saw this album and realized I knew a song, psycho killer! Yeah it’s popular but I’m glad I knew one. Def one of my favorite bands at the minute, gotta check these guys out further

I LOVE Talking Heads. These songs are great examples of having a lot of energy without making it manic. My one complaint about this album is that none of the songs really live up to just how good Psycho Killer is. That is their hit of the album and their ONLY standout-amazing song to me. If I was rating Psycho Killer it would be an easy 5/5, but no other songs are up to those standards. Nonetheless, different and amazing sound for their time, would never think this album was released in 1977. Personal Favorites: Psycho Killer, Sugar on my tongue

Previously rated: Remain In Light (2/5) ************************ Much better than the previous Talking Heads album. This one had more energy, the songs were catchier. I liked the lyrics better too. Enjoyed hearing the different instruments, steel drum, xylophone, etc.

Excellent, edgy cuts point the extremely creative way forward (starting with the steel drums on the opener). So fresh, still. The playing with disco and funk and what sounds like calypso (steel drums do have their impact), odd time signatures and sudden reversals or shifts in tempo – all of it in nerve-janglingly energetic like the city they were/are most associated with. A defining sound, if not exactly timeless, given how timebound all the best pop music seems to be. One has always admired Byrne’s willingness to be different (which feels quite authentic compared to, say, ultra-contrived Bowie) without necessarily enjoying every song he’s done. The originality of style, angly-jangly guitars and a leanness of vibe, is another major plus. Nearly 50 years on (how possible?) this feels maybe a touch underwhelming, just slightly on the slight side, but that's judging based on knowing all the stornger, richer outputs that were soon to come.

I can’t fathom this as an album in 1979. Ahead of its time? First song is obviously the best but a fun album overall.

Weak start, with a real low point at Tentative Decisions. The rest of the album is actually really good. Not as polished (and good) as the Eno-produced albums, bit a good debut nonetheless. 3.5*

Listened Before? Yes I think I've heard this one before, but hasn't gotten much play. Only song that immediately stands out from the track list is Psycho Killer. Weird to me that they felt the need to qualify the title with the year of release, but then again Byrne is a cooky dude. New Feeling stands out. Has an undeniable quirky TH sound for the most part, but the guitar intro and various interludes always feel like they are borrowed from some 60s rock band. Early standout. Who Is It? is another peak TH song. Funky song that hops from start to finish with Byrne crooning mostly nonsense in his slightly broken way. No Compassion is a weirdly structured one. It starts off slow then drops into a dancey rock section before suddenly flipping back to the slow tempo in which it started. Had this mostly in the background, but enjoyed everything I heard. For a debut album, they really had a well-established sound that certainly carries through the rest of their work. Strong 4 / 5. Added to Library? Yes Songs Added to Playlists: - New Feeling (Sunny-vibes) - Who Is It? (Driving) - Psycho Killer (Driving)

No real low points on this album. Uh-Oh is a good start to an album. The Book I Read and First Week / Last Week are favorites; love the xylophone/marimba on First Week/Last Week. Psycho Killer obviously we all know. Overall I like David Byrnes mannerisms. The guitar and piano parts are great throughout the album as well. Soft 4 here.

Only have heard a few of these tracks before that I know of, but the Talking Heads sound just hits something for me. Quirky and fun with layers of sounds. Surprised they didn't add Love --> Building on Fire as it's a jam and a half. Definitely not Talking Heads greatest output, but love how you can see their sound develop from this to More Songs about Building and Food and eventually Remain in Light.

Excellent

Really liked this album. Super funky, the singer has such an interesting timber, such raw energy and irreverent lyrics. Psycho killer is a bop, pulled me up really showcases the singer's strengths, New feeling has such a vibe to it. Big talking heads guy now

Playful, poppy, and sinister all at the same time.

Very nice album, grew on me for every song

Might be my fourth or fifth favorite talking heads album but I still love it. Rating: 4.4

I knew this album and I love it. A perfect example of New Wave style, they perfectly combine punk with world music. I love this band, even if David Byrne's nasal voice can be annoying at times. PSYCHO KILLER QU'EST CE QUE C'EST ? FAFAFA FAFAFAFAFA FA RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN AWAAAAAAAAAY OH OH OH OHHHHHHHH AYAYAYAYAY

talking heads type beat

Impressive debut. Psycho Killer is a stone-cold classic, but I think their subsequent albums (and the film Stop Making Sense) are more important and had a significant impact on culture. Some early tracks are more forgettable, but the back half of the album really brings the album to a satisfying conclusion.

The songs have a lively rhythm to them. It feels like they were an influence to the music of Franz Ferdinand. A unique sound for the era.

one of the weaker TH albums imo

Brilliant and odd

Tager lidt længere tid om at komme igang end Remain in Light men anden halvdel er pissefed. Bedste numre: The Book I Read, Don't Worry About the Government, Psycho Killer

naja du, bissl lahm der Ofen

Another good example of why I love this list- I had never heard of this album previously.

So much fun and joy. Fav track: Psycho killer

Probably my least played record from the Heads, so I enjoyed this listen for re-appreciating some of the more raw and playful compositions of their early years. Not my favourite by any means but still a lot of fun. Strong three and a half? Fave track: Psycho Killer

Pretty good little record - strange to compare to their other work which seems really quite far ahead, but so much creativity and originality brought to rock music from early on. Three and a half. Fave track: Psycho Killer

Rock new wave un tanto monótono. Un megahit.

How does a band come out nearly fully formed on their debut album yet have room to still grow over their career? I'm sure a lot of that has to do with Byrne, the opinionated writer and front man, clashing with his other bandmates, famously often at odds with the excellent and (I think) under-appreciated bassist, Tina Weymouth. It's an incredible debut album. Every corner of it is full of the DNA that makes the Talking Heads uniquely themselves.

Some classics (Psycho Killer, don’t worry about the government, new feeling) but there are a few stretches that get a bit same-y.

Psycho Killer, qu'est que c'est. Fa-fa-fa-fa, fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa.....

A positive opener for my first day of 1001 albums! Obviously I've heard "Psycho Killer" before, but don't recall having heard any of the other tracks on this album. Not sure if I got the original album experience as I was linked to the Spotify remaster with acoustic covers scattered amongst the studio tracks. I was feeling a little under the weather the night I listened to this so I needed something buoyant and energetic to listen to. Rating a solid 4.

Big fan of the Talking Heads. Really love this album.

Was a chill album, didnt know it

Catchy. Puts you in a good mood. High 3.5 and low 4

Good bass and guitar

Delightfully strange choices all around on vocals and musically.

Solid album

"Talking Heads: 77" is a remarkable debut album by Talking Heads, released in 1977. This avant-garde punk and new wave blend introduced the world to David Byrne's distinctive vocals and the band's quirky, intellectual lyricism. Tracks like "Psycho Killer" and "Uh-Oh, Love Comes to Town" stand out for their unique, angular sound and thought-provoking themes. The album's minimalist production complements its artistic intent, creating a distinct atmosphere. While it may not have achieved the commercial success of later Talking Heads works, "Talking Heads: 77" remains a pioneering statement in the post-punk movement. It earns a solid 4/5 for its groundbreaking and influential nature.

I really like the Talking Heads and this album is no exception. Just solid songs from front to back.

Struck by the well defined Post-Punk aspects of this album, but how clearly headed towards the advent of New Wave they already are on their debute LP. I enjoyed this as someone who really doesn't dig New Wave (afaik!)

Decent 1st album; would listen again.

I didn’t know any of the songs other than “Psycho Killer,” but overall I liked the album. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I think David Byrne’s musical/vocal choices are so interesting, in a good way. I enjoyed comparing this early album to the Talking Heads’ later work.

Super Debütalbum, noch nicht ganz den Stil gefunden aber viel Verschiedenes, manchmal Hit or miss

the talking heads. upbeat tunes with david byrne’s offbeat vocal style and quirky lyrics. kick ass bass lines. this album is a fun listen. highlights: “tentative decisions”, “no compassion”, “psycho killer”.

I wasn't sure about this album at first, but weirdly, the songs seemed to keep getting better toward the end of the album.

Consistent all the way thru, unique sound, very charming and fun. Like an interesting weird guy beckoning you to follow him thru a mysterious door, behind which lies the rest of the Talking Heads' catalog.

Nice consistent album. Would go so far as to say I really enjoyed it and would listen again. This is an album that can be listened to as a single experience.

Really funky music, kinda a vibe, so many guitars Upbeat

It’s been a talking heads couple of days! I didn’t realize how not mainstream popular they were.. like they reached top 100 but not very high. I really like the talking heads. Not in a way that makes me want to listen to them with any regularity, but in a reverent and entertained way. It’s good stuff haha

Not fav th album but a good one for sure

Classic intro

Interesting early album, and quite a disco-oriented sound in parts (not on Psycho Killer though!). Striking, original, and would have sounded pretty out there in 1977 I imagine.

bangin

Classic rock is classic but this is something else. It’s not peak Talking Heads but goddamn is it first wave New Wave heaven. Pour it all over me.

77 features my favorite Talking Heads song: Psycho Killer! I heard that song for the first time during the credits of some shitty horror movie mockumentary that I can never remember the name of. Leslie Vernon maybe? Doesn't matter. Not much of the rest of this album holds up quite as well as Psycho Killer does. It has all of the Talking Heads tropes though which I know Luke hates! Not as catchy as their later work but it's listenable for sure. Psycho Killer earns it one star on its own. So I guess that means 4.

1st song is very groovy. The marimba is an interesting addition. 2nd songs intro is good. 3rd song is not bad but a bit simple. Still funky chunky. Over time it gets better. Piano solo is 🤌🤌🤌. Not sure about happy day but it still is alright. Who is it? Is a bit better. No compassion is alright. Don't really like the book I read. The ending is alright. Psycho killer is a good classic. I like pulled up a lot. Love - building on fire is alright. Alot of repetition. I wish you wouldn't say that is pretty funky in a good way. Above average. I feel it in my heart has a funky groove behind it. Instrumentation is peak. Vocal brings it down a bit, but it's not too bad. Sugar on my tongue is pretty shit. Overall 4. The filler songs brought it down

Faktisk nice

I was a big fan of Talking Heads during my very young years but never really dug deep into them, just always appreciated them. Fave track is easily Psycho Killer. I love the Carribean vibes on Uh-Oj Love Comes to Town, and Happy Day stands out for me.

Not as familiar with this album as some of their others - I guess, being their debut, their schtick is less polished. Fave track - I mean, "Psycho Killer" is an absolute choon, and holds a pretty iconic place in the culture at large, right!? Of the tracks that aren't so ubiquitous, "No Compassion" stood out on these listens....

ну сойдет.

Phenomenal band, but an ordinary album until Psycho Killer hit. Also really liked Love -> Building on Fire

Sounds impressively contemporary for an album that's nearly 45 years old. A bit more polished and easy on the ears than I maybe expected for a debut (given that I only really knew Psycho Killer) but that's no bad thing.

I've been a fan of the big three (Fear of Music, Remain in Light, Speaking in Tongues) for 25 years. Other than Psyco Killer I've stayed away from records before and after, deemed too poppy by yourself truly. Problem is I've recently developed an affinity for 70s-early 80s pop. Obviously this is a supreme entry in any discography with just as much experimenting and quirky introspective lyrics.

Great stuff, and my first time listening to their debut!

Another band I need to give more time to - this was excellent, chaotic, fun, punchy

Love the new wave

Was actually quite enjoyable, strange lyrics and a bit whimsical but I’ll have to give it another listen - 7.2/10

Interesting to learn about the formation of the band and how they grew out of the mid-70's NYC scene. Best fact is that Lou Reed told David Byrne to never wear short sleeves on stage because his arms were so hairy. It's eccentric and fun, was very unique upon release. Tina Wheymouth is such a good bass player and I was happy to hear a lot of her style on the album. Listening to the bonus tracks added a lot more depth to the record

Enjoyed seeing how many tracks I could listen to before playing Psycho Killer. It’s like a personal challenge, and not because the other tracks are weak. I also think that Who Is It? followed by No Compassion is another big bright spot in the album. Really fun overall.

Very much the shape of things to come. It’s impressive to hear a band kind of mail their sound on the first outing. That being said, large chunks of this album felt like filler. But there’s enough classic material that I’ll continue to come back to this one again and again. Not my favorite Talking Heads, but still a great record.

Great stuff. Not their best but definitely a blueprint. Pulled up is underrated!!

Similar to my listen of The Bends, it’s a lot of fun hearing the raw elements of the distinct sound of this great band prior to them really developing and merging with other influences. This album is much heavier on the art-rock genre stead of the deep New Wave of later releases. Some of the album cuts aren’t up to snuff with the quality of the rest of the album, but that’s because it’s a GREAT album! Songs like New Feeling, Pulled Up and Who Is It? are all time Talking Heads tracks and I feel like they’re very underrated. Yeah I can do without like First/Last Week but it’s not like tracks like that are BAD. Overall, great listen.

Original, fresh, punky, funky for what feels like the origins of new wave music. Great listen! So ahead of its time for 1977. You could almost see them playing with Blonde and the Ramones on a triple bill at CBGB's.

Consistently danceable and witty, with a dose of urban anxiety. A fun record, with loads of songs I’d never heard before apart from Psycho Killer, but a set that really seems to establish the ethos of Talking Heads as bright, talented musicians who came to have fun.

I've always found David Byrne's voice walks that very fine line between quirky and annoying but as time goes by I'm very much on the side of enjoying it. I think it gives life to repeated listens to their songs that might grow stale sooner. Psycho Killer still sounds really fresh to me because i just really enjoy listening to his weird tics and phrasing

I think my music taste must have changed. I had heard this album before, some years ago, but when listening now I found it not nearly as exciting or interesting as I thought I was. A little disappointed. New Feeling and Love -> Building on Fire were irritating, The Book I Read meandering, Don't Worry About the Government lame. I did like Love Comes to Town, and Happy Day though. +1 star boost for Psycho Killer though, as it should be.

Really refreshing to hear this after a long time, not their best but it still rocks

4/5 - Liked the grooviness. Vocals were interesting. I got kinda sick of it toward the end. But an artist I would explore more.

banger after banger

"Psycho Killer" an obvious high point here. Don't Worry About The Government is also great. A solid album, but Talking Heads hadn't quite hit their stride yet.

This was better than I expected! Way better. Wacky and really varied. 4/5

This is the "art rock" template, at least as far as the general population is concerned. Incredibly innovative and catchy. Later records of theirs sold more, and perfected they're sound and concept, but this was the first.

This album must have been a big influence on some favorites of mine: Devo and They Might Be Giants. David Byrne has a unique voice that I find very appealing. Talking Heads is punk for clean cut kids.

'Psycho Killer' is still amazing and the rest of the album is pretty solid

Unique vocalists tend to be a hit or a miss, so when Byrne first opened his mouth, I felt apprehensive. "Uh-oh, Love Comes to Town" ended up being a strong opener - I love the tropical vibe - which assuaged my worries. For the most part, Byrne's vocals work well with the compositions, though there were moments where my enjoyment seemed to dip - "Happy Day" may just be what kept me from giving this the big ol' 5 star rating - though there were also moments that went above and beyond. "Psycho Killer" is delightfully devilish.

Hi there old friend! Man this album is just a really good time. There’s so much positivity in the music, and the majority of tunes here are crazy catchy. While certainly not the best Heads album, it’s a great debut and an absolute staple of new wave.

I rank this album fifth best among the eight albums they made as a band. You'd think that a condemnation, but no -- this album is incredible. It's just that they kept getting better. The band sounds tight here, and with their signature herky-jerkiness already in place. But while Byrne's songwriting is already very good, it is clear that this is a debut; the songs are smart and interesting, but not as catchy or danceable as the output to come. They would go on to refine themselves, both as performers and songwriters, through a prolific amount of live performances. But this is where it started.

ganske ait

Genuine amazement.

Love the Talking Heads, and "Psycho Killer" is an undeniable classic. The rest of the album doesn't measure up to that level, but it's the Talking Heads, so that still means the album's better than most. Rounding up from 3.5.

I remember having a Talking Heads phase & knew no one that enjoyed the band. They quietly became one of my favorites & I've appreciated them ever since. The whole album feels like one piece with Burning Down the House as it's standout. The video for that song was a core MTV moment for me. I remember trying to figure out the faces on the side of the house - what did it all mean? Talking Heads made great music. 4 stars

todo un clásico

I have a good buddy named Max who confuses the hell out of me sometimes. Some days I'll read a text he sent me and think to myself, "What in the name of Jesus Christ was going on in his head when he sent this?" It's never anything bad, just strange commentary. Up until this day I lived in eternal confusion. But now, I've finally figured it out - his brain is operated by a record player that only plays Talking Heads 77. Let me explain. It always starts with a very basic statement of what happened that day, is repeated to the point where you sense there's added significance to this basic statement, and then becomes oddly introspective and profound. Take the song The Book I Read, for example. "I'm writing 'bout the book I read; I have to sing about the book I read; I'm embarrassed to admit it hit the soft spot in my heart; When I found out you wrote the book I read." Now imagine that said to you unironically, without any musical backing. Max, you are an enigma, but that's what I love most about you. Keep being you.

Good album couple of hits

Definitely much more my vibe than Remain in Light. Enjoyed the vocals more and the melodies were easier to follow this time around. Can definitely see myself listening to this album again.

Geggjuð plata!

Love it

Would have loved to have heard this at the time. Talking Heads just totally did their own thing, didn't they?

Fantastic album

minne meg om vgs

They still hadn't figured it all out yet but it's still pretty good

Gets better as it goes on and by the end I was enjoying it.

Highlight: Psycho Killer

I’ve heard this one before and was indifferent, but revisiting it has revealed new treasures. It’s similar to my experience with Fear of Music: initially underwhelming but growing on me with every play. Again it’s David Byrne’s lyrics that grabbed me first, with the music taking a couple more listens to catch up. Side one still isn’t completely clicking for me yet, but side two is very strong indeed (having a song like Psycho Killer in your ranks doesn’t hurt). 3.5 and rising.

Angular NY post punk, with the party vibes. Television with Funk

Great grooves. Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth are fantastic. Early David Byrne lyrics are weird as expected, maybe weirder on the first TH album. Their better work was still to come. This is very good, not great.

Really good new wave music. Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth are great timekeepers, but I suppose it helps they’re married. Starts strong with Uh-Oh, ends really strongly with Psycho Killer and Pulled Up. Lost my focus in the middle of the album, keeps it from the elusive 5th star.

Nog deras bästa.

Few nice songs

One more classic. Has a great vibe, somewhat Beatles vibes but a littlebit more serious. I like it very very much.

Listening to Talking Heads 77 is like opening a can of Pringles – once you pop, you just can't stop. And don't even get me started on "Psycho Killer." That song will burrow into your brain like a parasitic worm and live there rent-free for the rest of your life. But hey, at least it's a catchy worm. But let's be real, Talking Heads 77 is more than just a one-hit wonder. With its eclectic mix of punk, funk, and rock, this album will have you bopping your head and shaking your booty like a Muppet on speed. So if you're ready to embrace your inner weirdo and dance like nobody's watching, then Talking Heads 77 is the album for you. Just be prepared for "Psycho Killer" to be your new brain roommate.

Not my favourite Heads album, but still a classic.

Rating: 7/10

4.2 - Certainly the most pop-oriented and approachable of the Talking Heads albums I've listened to thus far. Byrne has assembled his various musical influences on this debut, seemingly priming for some deeper explorations that come later on. Standouts: "Psycho Killer", "Happy Day"

Cada parte do Talking Heads 77 é contagiante. Me surpreendeu, adorei ouvir cada batida, e pra mim só teve hit.

Lekker. Hou ik zo van new wave? Is dit new wave?

Fa fa fa fa fa fa fa fa fa fa fa fa What a lot of fun they seem to be having

My twin bro Sai's recent obsession, Talking Heads, tends to be brought up in any conversation - as is his wont (-_-) - but I hadn't yet given it a chance (as is probably mine). Now despite that - or because of it? - I went into it with fairly low expectations. The first few songs felt like samplers, setting me in the mood, but once I got into it, I was hooked! Very catchy and upbeat, puts a smile on my face. I think I can listen to music like this for hours! Just hope it has the retaining power which, so far, hasn't always happened with artists that sound like them. Thankfully I've got the aptly-named playlist "Talking Heads - average" to help out ;)

A Solid New Wave a Debut album, and is Worth A Listen to this day.

Excellent debut album! A bit raw and unpolished, but a fresh and unique sound. 4 stars.

I would consider this a quality debut album from a band with a truly unique sound. The sonic diversity on this album is stellar and there are a lot of great songs on here!

PSYCHO KILLAAAAAH

His voice is on the fine line that lies between eccentricity and plain annoyance. Do I hate it? Yep. Does the music make up for it? Also yes. It's a drunk man singing and I love it lol

Huh. I guess I'm becoming a Talking Heads fan. Cool grooves, fun lyrics, plus Tina's a great bassist. The first few songs were a little too formless for my liking, but by the time I got to Who Is It? I was all in. I guess I need to dive back in and start from the beginning.

This album has everything you look for from this game-changing New York band. There’s absolutely no question that what was to come, new wave, is grossly inspired by this album. I’d even venture to guess Peter Gabriel was a fan.

A great debut; still sounds fresh 46 years later.

Love the one song Psyscho Killer and that’s it.

This is a 3.5 for me. I’ll round up because of their influence and a lot of it is quite good, but I’ve never been able to get into talking heads. Byrne’s voice kind of drives me crazy

Classic

nice to listen to

Very much enjoyed. Bravo.

Groovy asf, different to anything i’ve listened to lately, feels like i’m in a coming of age film, would go so hard at a chill gatho, OMG happy day intro is so cute (might be my fav already), no compassion (another fav), fucken great debut from a band wowee, psycho killer is a classic obv, overall just a vibe, prob not something i’d listen to a lot tho

- Heard this before - Talking Heads are one of my favourite bands of all time, but this isn't an album I go back to very often - Still really good and very near to 5*, might be marking it down because of how good some of their other albums are - Fav songs: The Book I Read, Psycho Killer; Uh-Oh, Love Comes to Town

This band is one I really need to dive a bit deeper into at some point. This was, much like everything else I've heard from these guys, a pretty cool listen.

Some good tunes, like their energy. A great album.

Hugely influencial but................well it doesn't hit me as something i've ever been able to enjoy. A real shame but it's me and not this album. Still giving it 4 stars.

- They don't miss - Super fun et frais - La voix est cool - Un peu moins punky que Fear of Music - 4/5

This is a really strong debut album. I like but don't love Talking Heads. I think they're a really talented band and have a really unique sound but I tend to gravitate more towards their hits and have never really loved them enough to dig into their deeper cuts. I knew a lot of the tracks on this album, which has a particularly solid second half. Much like Talking Heads as a whole, I really like but don't love this album. It does a great job of setting the table for what to expect from the band going forward. Standout Tracks: New Feeling, Happy Day, Don't Worry About The Government, First Week / Last Week..... Carefree, Psycho Killer, Pulled Up

It took a couple of plays to get into it, but I really like this album. The usual dsrk familiar anxiety-driven themes. Good stuff.

It was interesting to take an American take on punk. I love the whimsical lyrics and delivery, but the album is not particularly varied or exciting musically.

This was the first Talking Heads album I listened to from start to finish. I liked it. Good bass lines interesting lyrics. "No Compassion" layered song with interesting time signature. I didn't enjoy "Don't Worry About the Government". Actually, tail end of the album sort of loses it for me. Although Psycho Killer is good.

I really want to like the talking heads, but I still haven’t totally come around to them. This album is definitely solid though I still struggle with David byrne’s whimper shouts

heel leuk, vroeg me af waarom ik nog nooit eerder naar het volledige album had geluisterd?? leuke baslijntjes

Best nice!

Great debut, lots of fun ideas and sound play on here that would get better with Fear of Music and Remain in Light.

As soon as the first song started I was immediately fully engaged with the album. I knew it was gonna be a good one. And it was. Perhaps not quite as consistent as I originally thought it was going to be, but the album has great standout tracks that serve as an excellent introduction to the band. Fantastic riffs and unique vocals, after listening to this album twice I know I will be delving deeper into Talking Heads discography in the future. FAVORITE SONGS: - Uh-Oh, Love Comes to Town - New Feeling - Don't Worry About the Government - Psycho Killer 4.25/5

Music from the future, even to this day

Must have been an incredible improvement at the time. Still great today.

Really important album in the music history. Love the band, nice album.

From all that I know of Talking Heads, it's always good and different. It's an incredible first album for this innovative formation and the best was yet to come.

You had the Ramones for Punk in ‘76 and the Talking Heads for New Wave in ‘77. Both playing on the same stage at CBGBs. That’s some cool history. An even better way to hear these songs is on the live album “The Name of This Band Is Talking Heads.”

Really strong debut with many standout songs. It’s pretty amazing how fully formed the sound and sensibility is (giving credit to what was related in reading about the making of the album, that the band put off going into the studio for quite a while after interest in recording them began, due in part to feeling they weren’t yet ready).

David Byrne är konstig och Tina Weymouth spelar bas bra vad annat behöver man

Sidner core dvs bangers

Very forward-thinking, setting the stage for the indie rockers and unconvential frontmen of the future. Also great music, like the shifting “No Compassion” and fantastic closer “Pulled Up”

Psyhco Album!

musica bella e originale, da riascoltare almeno una seconda volta. vorrei dare 4.5

Love the disco feel on this, quite easy to listen to and difficult to move a part of your body while listening to this

I quite enjoyed this début album. A good quirky listen; just how I like my Talking Heads.

I recall a time in my life when I didn't really care for music from Talking Heads. I outgrew that dislike and have come to appreciate a variety of works from this band. This album is no exception. I liked what I was hearing musically. It was kind of unusual and interesting.

Fun and interesting.

Crazy that this is their debut album it's good and shows potential for the future. The driving beat makes it impossible to stay still. Psycho Killer an all time classic and Don't worry about the Government, such a weird song, I mean who made songs like that in 1977. The Talking Heads of course

Paranoid but pretty - Talking Heads started something special with this prescient record.

¡Magnífico! Este álbum no es post-punk, es de la misma época y, a mi entender, antes nada había sonado parecido a Talking Heads.

Fun stuff

Yes -this is sufficiently different to most everything else around at the time. Although I can't say I love it, I do love a couple of the tracks here, and I definitely appreciate the craftmanship of both the songwriting, the instrumentals and the production. Saying that - Psycho Killer is genuinely an exceptional track so that has to be taken into account.

kitarointia, joka ei ärsytä. tarttuvia biisejä toisensa perään, jäävät kyllä vähän toistensa varjoon eli menevät massaksi, koska soundi on aika sana. välillä vähän 70-luvun suomi-iskelmä-laulu, huvittaa.

One of the shining lights of the late 70s punk and new wave scene at CBGB, Talking Heads are scrappy, jittery, and unlike most anything America had heard before. The darkness of the lyrics constraint beautifully with the chirping guitar.

Now this is new-wave I can get behind! I really did not get Talking Heads in my younger days. Now I find myself enjoying them more and more with each re-visit. Their debut is rough around the edges, but very much points forward towards material yet to come. 'No Compassion' slaps hard, and 'Don't Worry About the Government' is so good and gives Byrne an excuse to flex his musicianship. Finally, 'Pulled Up' is a nice closer, but 'Psycho Killer' definitely steals the show. "Say something once, why say it again?"

Dragged on and was boring at parts. Often seemed to lack direction. Highlights were the lyricism in weighed down (the prison song) and bass in shorter, more inviting songs like

Start of a great run of albums, not my favourite but worth a start. New wavey groove art rock.

A very cool mid-80s sound coming in a few years early. Intersesting and edgy, without feeling quite like a major hallmark. Still bonus points based on all the goodness to come, best signalled by the steel drums rather subtly slotted into the opener.

A trip back to the midish 70's.

Good album they would hit the creative stride in later but some good stuff on here, Uh-oh, Pulled up and of course Psycho Killer.

The albums I like best on this list are the ones that are like nothing that have been heard before. This counts. Although the songs are a little bit repetitive within the record, this was a new direction.

This is a good album with an amazing single. Psycho killer isn't just my favorite Talking Heads song, it's one of my favorite songs ever.

I started listening before reading up on the album and thought like it sounded like pretty solid Talking Heads, very much their typical sound. I like Talking Heads well enough and am enjoying the album. I'd say 3.5 stars except now that I've clicked through to realize that this is their debut, wow! Apparently they sprung to life fully formed and confident in their sound. Psycho Killer is iconic and all the more amazing for being part of their initial offering. Definitely rounding up on this one.

wonderful listen, just felt like it dragged on too much for me to give it a 5, i got tired of it.

Great vibes. Love this style of rock.

Bit of an odd one, I was kind of expecting to be disappointed but was surprised how much I enjoyed it. It’s very cool to like Talking Heads and when I’ve listened to albums in the past been a little underwhelmed. This was a quirky, perky, punky, funky, reggae party. It got a little too quirky at times to the point of getting on my tits but all in all good fun. Not quite as cool as the hype might lead you to believe but a decent 4.

pretty gewd

Really enjoy the Talking Heads, great sound and energy

Like it

HL: Tentative Decisions, Psycho Killer, The Book I Read Relief that Psycho Killer isn’t the best song on this album; good for a debut; Talking Heads are a band I haven’t paid much attention to before this year, so better late than never. September 9, 2022

Ei bändin paras levy, mutta breikkauslevy silti. Ennenmän tykkään niistä myöhemmistä kunnon jorauslevyistä, mutta kyllä tääkin nelosen saa! 4/5

Talking Heads on kyllä just se bändi, josta aina nauttii mut silti kuuntelee tosi harvoin. Täl levyl alku on timanttia, mut vähän epätasainen jälkipuolisko.

Hyvä bändihän tämä on. Tykkään ehkä vähän enemmän myöhemmistä levyistä, mutta ansaitsee tämäkin 4/5.

Nice, simple, rock n roll

Love the sound and general weirdness of it. For a 5 star rating it would've needed a few more outstanding songs like Psycho Killer.

pretty good. Groovy

Early, quirky Talking Heads before the celebrated Afro disco and Eno albums. Interesting and unusual, but still good indie guitar pop without any shouty, punk.

Boring. Не сказать, что совсем проходной (для меня 🤓), в нем есть что-то определенно интересное, но как-то этого мало. Твердая 4. Мотивы, вот, прикольные, штуки всякие экспериментальные в музыке — тоже здорово Скорее, 3,5

content wise, david byrne is on fire. I really like him as a lyricist. his songs can be funny, subversive, and powerful. I don't always love the songs themselves but for some reason as a person that doesn't really pay attention to lyrics that much that's what makes this 4 stars for me. This man annunciates. that helps.

Ah dear old David Byrne and Co.... probably one of the best debut albums ever here. Just classic post punk art rock. Great tunes and super delivery from David. "Uh-Oh Love Comes to Town" "Tentative Decisions" "First Week, Last Week....Carefree" and of course the classic "Psycho Killer" are my favourites. Rightfully on the list, top stuff.

Yeah fantastic

Hadn't heard this whole album before. Some of these tunes I thought were from later albums and not their debut. I really enjoyed it, it was less quirky than I was expecting and way more polished.

Amazing album. Different from what I usually listen to. Very groovy, very funky. Insane/fun beats. I love it. “Uh-Oh, Love Comes to Town” is one of the best songs I’ve ever heard.

Some good stuff. Kind of all sounds the same though!

Was hopeful after seeing that Psycho Killer is on this album, but a bit disappointed that none of the other songs are as memorable.

Magnificent, and it just gets better with every listen.

77. 1977 was a fantastic year for the rise of New Year. Among Devo and Elvis Costello stood a CGBG art punk band called Talking Heads, characterized by lunatic vocals by David Byrne, a voice like no other, and repetitive poetic lyrics on themes of the psychology of an outspoken paranoid social outcast. I also love that Caribbean sound. Is that just the guitar and steel pan? If not for their later albums, people would regard this album much higher. There's no Eno touch, and they haven't quite found their sound yet. But it's raw and full of creative ideas. "Uh Oh Love Comes to Town" starts off sounding like a reaction to disco. "Happy Day" is a beautiful underrated song acts as a sign of their Little Creatures sound. "No Compassion" sees one of my favorite punk techniques: a fakeout of the song ending followed by a re-do. Personally, I quite enjoyed nearly all the tracks. At least something cool and unusual stuck out to me from every track. And sure, some of the tracks are forgettable, but those cool moments stick. Plus, how could you say no to a commie album cover?

Still as good as it ever was.

Had only heard Psycho Killer. This was great! Need to go down a Talking Heads rabbit hole...

Love the talking heads in general, but other than psycho killer wasn't anything that spectacular here.

Great album, deserves a 4 for psycho killer alone

Probably underrated due to its influence on future punk and new wave.

Good. Will listen to more TH

FA FA FA FA FA FA FA FA FAR

A strong debut. Don't think it's as solid-gold as the records later in the catalogue, but hints at the greatness to come. Favorite tracks: "The Book I Read", "Psycho Killer", "Pulled Up", "No Compassion"

Instantly recognizable quirky sound of David Byrne. I like this album, but there are other Talking Heads records that I like better. I do love Psycho Killer. I think that's one of their best songs. This was clearly a very different sound that really stood out back in 1977. May have been categorized as Punk at the time, but much more sophisticated and complex than that label!

I wish I could have listened to this more closely before reviewing. I liked what I heard. There was funk, rock and world music all rolled into a fun package. Psycho Killer is of course a classic song that would raise the score of any album. Great bass parts all around. I don’t think it was perfect but I’m gonna give this a 4.

“Uh oh, Love comes to town” IS A STRAIGHT UP BOP 10/10 “New Feeling” has a great intro, makes me want to shake my head side to side. Has a good message, I love the riffs in the guitar. I just can’t shake the groove out of me. I can definitely see this song being in a movie. Has some weird highs and lows, but other than that it’s great. 8/10 “Tentative Decisions” has a great little riff intro, the drum beat seems to be really solid, the chorus vocals are really good, but the vocals are kinda quirky for lack of a better word. Ooh I love the second part of the song after the first chorus. Has a good hype up to the next part which is back to the riff then the melody, it’s great composition. Feels kind of like a marching song and dancing song simultaneously. Good outro piano part, with the classic fade out obviously. 7/10 “Happy Day” has an interesting and ear-catching intro, I like the creativity. The vocals are great in this song. The high falsetto notes have kind of grown on me, I guess it’s just a style I’m not used to. I like the intentional pauses in the music, it adds just a fresh little bit to be like “wait what? I gotta keep listening!” And it has good song-writing the rhythm is very good. Writing poems is hard enough, I have no clue how song-writers manage to put in a whole bunch of instruments into a poem and make it sound good! 8/10 “Who is it?” That intro is just so powerful and groovy. I like how this song manages to have this much repition and still feel fresh and new. I like this love song it really contrasts with the crooning that pertains to most love songs. Very creative. I love the cut-off at the end. 10/10 “No Compassion” has a very interesting title. I don’t know how much this song speaks to me. It has some pretty good drums and guitar but it doesn’t stand out too much to me. It’s a good quality of song for the most part. The last part kind of carries the song with the fade in and out imo it just doesn’t have enough to stand out. 5/10 “The Book I Read” has a good intro and stands out a lot! Really gets me excited for the next part, and I love the piano that they included into a rock song! The singing is pretty awesome. I can’t get enough. I can’t believe he’s living in the future.😮10/10 “Don’t Worry About the Government” has a solid intro, and a good bouncy tune. It’s very upbeat I like it a lot. I just wanna bounce around with this song. Singing is pretty good and fits for the song. I like the ending. 9/10 “First Week / Last Week….Carefree” has a very long title, I don’t know what I expect. I love how spunky all these intros are. The sound that plays at the beginning is very cool. It’s very stand off ish which is what we love to see. I’ll definitely remember this name because of its spunk. 9/10 “Psycho Killer” has a violent name. But when I look at the playlists that are related to this kind of music, they all feature psycho killer, so I have high expectations. Good bass line. I like how it builds with the instruments it draws attention. I love it. Has some good metaphors. It’s very memorable. Great outro. 10/10 “Pulled Up” has interesting lyrics. But they start being pretty uplifting. Good bouncy tune, less bouncy than “Don’t worry about the government” though. 8/10 “Love➡️Building on Fire” is an interesting metaphor and I’m intrigued to see how they justify it. I do not get the lyrics at all… but it has a great tune. 6/10 “I wish you wouldn’t say that” has a weird psychadelicky background noise. Feels nice to listen to. The ending has a weird yelling bit in the back. 6/10 “I feel it in my heart” has a spunky intro. Has good lyrics. I like the boldness of this song despite the lyrics contradicting it. It’s a catch-22, it’s interesting. 8/10 “Sugar on my tongue” is the last song on this album. I’m excited to see how this album comes to a close. Ooh that’s a nice sound of an intro, winding down, coming to a close. Great bounciness. Just what I expect for an ending song. 9/10 Overall the album is a 4.8/5

Good, not the best Talking Heads album though.

I'm very intrigued. This is a kooky album

I really love this, it's quirky and unconventional and a sign of how music was about to change.

As a debut, this is the least assured of the four great Talking Heads albums. The ingredients are there, but haven't evolved to sublime perfection yet. It feels harsh, when the album contains The Book I Read, Don't Worry About the Government, Love --> Building On Fire and Psycho Killer. But while it has the odd subject matter, the funk loving grooves and all the stuff that makes them so good, it's just not as consistently wonderful as Fear of Music or Speaking in Tongues, as it has more filler, like New Feeling on there. Still an amazing album, and an amazing debut.

It is fun to listen to the beginning of that Talking Heads sound and hear David Byrne cultivate his unique style. While Psycho Killer stands out above the rest of the tracks, overall it is a very good debut album.

I had been listening to "Sand In The Vaseline," a compilation from <checks notes> THIRTY years ago?! Wow. A number of the songs are on this compilation, but I do not have this album. It took me a long time to get used to the elegant simplicity of those songs, as opposed to the well-known "hits" by the band. Because of this, as much as I enjoy the band, I can't give this 5 stars. I mean, yes it does have the great "Psycho Killer" on it. But it then has other songs which... yeah. (For example, "Who Is It?")

This was difficult to judge. The Talking Heads are just so eclectic - is that a good word or a bad word? I found I most enjoyed Tina Weymouth's bass lines (especially on the first track and Psycho Killer). David Byrne is a gifted (but overly complicated?) lyricist even if his singing is a bit off-key. After multiple listens I found myself really digging their funk sound (really notable on Uh-Oh Love Comes to Town, Who Is it?, The Book I Read, First Week/Last Week). I feel like behind the funk there was folk or country or rock or something else I couldn't place. Whatever it is, it earned my respect. I'm still not sure I'll ever be able to spend days on end listening to them, but this album is solid. And their talent is undeniable.

Muy animoso, muy de buenas, siempre está bien escuchar a Talking Heads 8.5/10

First time listen to this album. I just love how weird the Talking Heads were. A lot of these songs were so oddball and irreverent. Tentative Decisions, Who Is It?, etc. And obviously Psycho Killer and Pulled Up are the classics on this one.

Great debut album by a great and legendary artists

'77 reveals a strange combination of social attitudes, naïve melodies and surreal fables. The oblique strategy David Byrne used to set his psychotic rigmaroles (which I really love) to music was complemented by a rhythm section consisting of danceable and tribal beats. (8/10) FT: Uh-Oh, Love Comes to Town, New Feeling, Psycho Killer, Pulled Up

Remember Psycho Killer from 77-78... in Podmore. Dave Fisher had the 12" and I put it on a compilation tape for my sister.

This group is an enigmatic blend that defies explanation but somehow manages to find a endearing niche amongst the North American pop greats! The band is extremely tight and the production of the music is crystal clear. You can hear everyone doing their part and all parts and transitions are exactly in their places and precisely on their marks. Byrnes’ lyrics and vocals are both equally complex and precise, but not altogether too serious either. In all, the band was and remains quite unique. Their vision feels so precise that it’s easy to take for granted as just a given while it rolls by on the radio. But listening closer will reveal something really special that always has me scratching my head wondering, where in the world did they come up with this!

Psycho Killer alone get this to positive territory, then the rest takes it to a 4.

It's weird to think of Talking Heads as a bunch of upstarts, fresh on the scene, bringing their own take on weirdness sounding new and unlike anything else while still feeling kind of punk and new wave. As long as I've been alive, they've kind of been an established band, somebody whom everybody just knows; yet here they are on their debut album just stringing together weird lyrics about the most banal things like modern buildings and reading books, meshing them with some pretty jangly guitars and screechy vocals and bringing that all together in a way that can kind of make me see what it was like to hear these weirdoes for the first time, a whole year before I was born. This may have actually been the first time I have heard this album from start to finish. Don't think it will be the last.

Great album. This was good the whole way through, more positive than I was expecting

Love how this album opens - one of my favorite talking heads albums

Talking Heads are one of my favourite bands and David Byrne is an all-out icon for me, but I'm actually not as familiar with their jagged art-punky roots as I am with their later work (in all its Eno collaborating, stage-show pioneering, groove-busting, big-suit wearing genius). Standing on its own merit, "77" is an arresting listen and a solid debut. Even if the band are paving the way for more ambitious projects to come, the distinct characteristics that make them brilliant are still recognisable across the 11 tracks. "Uh, Oh, Love Comes To Town" is a delicious introduction, buoyed by a bouncy riff and a unpredictable melody that crescendos towards its chorus. Logical sense is under threat from a primal, intangible feeling: love. While love is typically expressed in the simplest form in song and verse ("easy as 1-2-3"), to Byrne it's a source of fear, confusion, paranoia: more comparable to a "stock-broker making a bad investment". Byrne seems to walk variations on this line all through his career and across much of the rest of the album: trust nothing, dissect every feeling, consider every angle. Across the rest of "77", there's a heady range of this sentiment and sharp, catchy tunes. "Psycho Killer" is, of course, an all-time classic for the band, exemplifying Byrne's frantic, neurotic vocals, Weymouth's ability to craft a simple and stand-out bassline, and the band's tight, insular musicianship. "Pulled Up" has long been one of my favourites from their early period. It's a perfect catharsis from "77"'s pent-up frustrations and neurosis, where the band just seem to let go. Filled with infectious energy, breathless enthusiasm, and unhinged vocalisations, executed utterly convincingly and freely. While the instrumentation generally affirms the band's line-up as a no-frills art-punk outfit, it's good to hear some embellishments creeping in (steel pan in "Uh Oh, Love Comes to Town", saxophone in "First Week / Last Week....Carefree", keyboards across many of the different tracks), just tastefully enough to complement the material without detracting. "77" is a brilliant gateway into the oddball musings of Talking Heads: although the best would be yet to come, it's hard not to be swept along by its charm.

vaguely absurdist soft touch rock with lots of... spiciness? funkiness? a good fever dream

To be honest I was getting sick of this album, then Psycho Killer came on and I was like, O shit yea, the Pulled Up came on and OH HELL YES what a song!

Definitely not their best album, I think the only song I'd really want to listen to is Psycho Killer which is a classic. Overall it's still very art-rock and creative, but compared to their latest works there isn't as much here. I want to rate it a 3 in comparison to their other works, but in general compared to other 3s I've given it seems too low, so I'll bump it up to a soft 4.

This is Talking Heads before David Byrne hijacked the name and started treating the other three as his backing band and long before he started doing Broadway specials. The thing people forget is just how talented the band were as a whole. This album is raw and loses direction in places however overall it is a stunning debut and lacks the cynicism of their last few albums. Arty, funky, punky songs with real heart

Þvílíkt útálandi unglingafyllerí á fimmtudegi!

I'm a fan of this band. Cohesive lyrics and tight pop. I'll continue to get more into them as I age. David Byrne is a genius.

Cool album. I caught a mix of classic rock with some blues that made this a really cool experience. It was definitley a very cool first approach to the music of Talking Heads.

I liked the vibe and the beats of the songs. I could listen to more of it. not my favorite, but still pretty good.

I like the upbeat vibes. It got a bit samey after ahwile.

15th November 2021 Listened on the living room speaker while working. Talking heads are probably the band that I've done the biggest turn around on through doing this. I really love them and have a new found appreciation for David Byrne. Poppy, dark, witty, sarcastic, great fun.

Super clean guitars, unexpected harmonies

The musical equivalent of those weird outcast kids in high school that didn't care about your opinion and had more fun than any of their peers.

Most prominent things happening here are Byrne's interesting early vocal quality, and instruments that are fun and feel slightly B-52s. Up and down in places, just barely clears to a 4 for me.

Great record, Psycho Killer is an all-time fave

Psycho killer bop

Easy 4. Love the music. That's a 5 for me. Would listen anytime. Lyrics are a bit soft and/or repetitive or a bit eccentric at times. That's my only qualm. I'm bordering on a 5 but not quite. Great bass lines.

3.5, not sure on 3 vs 4...

I really like Talking Heads, although in my opinion this isn't their best album. However, Psycho Killer is an absolute banger, and there are several other nice songs on here (Pulled Up, The Book I Read).

psycho killer & sugar on my tongue push this to a 4

This album fucks. Very fun and really interesting to listen to. Not a background music type of sound at all

I've always liked Talking Heads' singles and I'm one of the people who believe that Stop Making Sense is one of the best concert films ever made, but here's a confession, I've never owned a Talking Heads album until recently when I got More Songs About Buildings and Food from a second hand shop. So to get an album with only one song on it that I knew (Psycho Killer) was almost like Talking Heads had released a new album. I enjoyed it, It was kind of familiar but different, with David Byrnes distinctive voice and Tina Weymouth's funky bass. It may be because I'm much more familiar with their singles or because it's their debut, but I felt like some of the songs sounded like demos, also some other interesting sounds in some songs, such as steel drums in the opening track, made it an interesting and enjoyable listen.

7/10 interesting album! Not as good as I would’ve hoped but the singles were solid standouts .

8. I like the talking heads, but not their best album

7/10. Pretty good, but the way they sing grates on me after a while.

They hadn’t quite found their sound yet on this album. Still a great performance from David Byrne with some classic songs. 8/10

Only 4 stars because they made even better albums later

Rock new wave un tanto monótono. Un megahit.

One of the classic debut albums

Classic.

"Oh come on! This is the fourth Talking Heads album I've rolled in two months. I didn't like any of the other ones, why would I like this one." ...Damn it. This album is legitimately good. UGH I mean everything about this is smart and intentional and well-executed. Everything. This album needed to exist and it deserves to be as influential as it was. Still, though. Damn it. I'm angry at how good this is. Argh.

Muy buen disco. Psychokiller excelente

Before the Talking Heads released one of the greatest albums of all time, even before they honed their new eave sound with Brian Eno, they released this: a sound more focused on the art punk tendencies of before. They have not gotten fully weird yet. Alas, their songwriting shines and the extent of their instrumentation and Byrne's vocals are undeniably unique. Far from their best album, but still really good. Says a lot about their discography, methinks.

Love the revisit this is a favorite of my parents

Ok, måske ikke lige min stil pga stemmen og den stramme lyd. 4 fordi jeg jeg tror måske jeg kunne blive mere glad for den. Der er kvalitet i den

It's a good album a bit all over the place, uneven. Unique interesting and it has psycho killer one of the graeat songs of the past 40 years. 4.5 🌟

Fuck yeah! Super fun and deep, a little more melodic than I'm used to from them too, which was good

So different, so fresh in the day. I’m firmly in the Remain in Light camp, but if that didn’t exist this would still be a fun record.

The energy is a bit low for me. This is their first album, and it feels like they were still trying to find their sound. That being said, most of the album was banger material even if sometimes I felt as if they could've gone bigger in some areas. Favorite track: The Book I Read

Was expecting this to be a more challenging listen, but it is surprisingly consistent, and still has some unusual approaches without deviating too much from an alternative/punk/rock formula to not be easily appreciated. Solid.

I'd say a good ole classic talking heads album, take my 4 stars!

The weakest of the bands 4 albums in the book. It’s still quite good, but the songs just don’t gel as well when compared to the contents of the other album.

Album clave que marca muy perfectamente el paso del punk al new wave.

classic

I came into listening to this knowing the band very very well but having never listened start to finish to any of their albums so this should be interesing. I listened to the version without Love → Building on Fire Uh-Oh, Love Comes to Town - what a funky start, love that tropical style xylophone or keyboard or whatever it is. "I neglect my duties, I'll be in trouble, but" "The answer is obvious: love has come to town" - get down jerry! new feeling - all about the drums and the guitar here with a nice bassline but no as good lyrically. Tentative Decisions - groovy bass and a bit all over the place which goes well with the lyrics. "[*The printed sleeve lyrics end here with the instruction "repeat with reversal of gender."]" is. very david byrne album falls off a bit here but picks back up towards the end so could do without next 3 tracks or bring in some of the later release / version tracks instead but they fit in with the album Happy Day - possibly the highest note I have heard him sing - "Born with the things that I know" - drags on a bit more than it should but I have never heard it before and sounds very different to their later work vocal wise although can obviously see a lot of his style in it. who is it? - pyscho killer pre-cursor? No Compassion - autism/Aspergers showing here but a good song and very self aware title the book i read - "The book I read was in your eyes" is a great line Don’t Worry About the Government - "Loved ones, loved ones visit the building Take the highway, park and come up and see me I'll be working, working but if you come visit I'll put down what I'm doing, my friends are important" is great lyrics and his delivery gives it extra first week / Last Week....Carefree - meh - "aye-ya-ya-ya-ya" used before the chorus is a call-forward to physco killer pyscho killer - somewhat of a joke song but very catchy and possibly their most known song or at least one of bass line is excellent, great opener to their concert album "We are vain and we are blind I hate people when they're not polite" This album is odd I feel like the band or possibly byrne alone have stepped back from it, there are several love songs on it as far as my interpretation and he later goes on to talk about not writing about big things like love except to a lamp (although that interview is likely a take on interviews so might be deliberate) and only 2 songs you ever really see them play although that could be more to do with the strength of their discophraphy I love david byrnes voice, he is the antithesis to morrissey. Jerry Harrison is very underrated especially in early talking heads, he is the majority of the guitar and the keyboards throughout. "the better a singers voice, the harder it is to belive what they are saying" For a debut album you can hear a lot of the core of what would propel them throughout their career together. 4 based on the "4 - enjoyed it, will listen again"

Bumping.

Finally came across something in this list that I've listened to before lol! Such a classic, still completely unique to this day. I love love love Talking Heads so much, everything from the instrumentation to the lyrics is so interesting and fresh that you can't listen to any song just once!

I like the Talking Heads, but only in small doses. It does have Psycho Killer, so that’s a plus.

Enjoyed it

Cool album
