Reviews (page 6 of 13)

Un álbum con una armonía excepcional en donde cada canción tiene una magia especial, tanto que dan ganas de bailar o cantar. Un álbum que roza la perfección. Gracias a la tremenda calidad del artista.

The floor for Stevie Wonder albums is so damn high. What an incredible musician.

Not my favorite by Stevie, but still, he's a musical genius. "Living For The City" and "Higher Ground" are exceptional tunes. I find much of this a bit too polished, but it's a good move from Little Stevie's earlier "Oops! All love songs!" albums to a more experimental Steven. He's a good singer, with good tones and choices. I like it best when he's adding a little gravel to it. The too-slick version put me off. Musically, it's pretty amazing because he's playing 90% of what you're hearing. I don't love the occasional keyboard bass lines instead of true bass. But it's not too too often. I feel like it's a 3-star album and I don't know that I'll come back and listen again. But for how influential he is and this shows his growth from pop romance balladeer... I'm going with a 4.

This album was very good. I enjoyed the diversity throughout the album which isn’t as common in most albums.

OK(6/7)

Wth. Not my style

Can see why people like him so much.

Pretty cool

ANOTHA ONE We already stated Stevie has won the game. One of the strongest musicians of all time. Sir Duke was his 18TH Album and it was the best. lets see how this number 16 does? Living for the City (YOOOOOWHATTHEFUCKKKTHISROCKSBUT HOLY SHIT 1973?!) Good shit Stevie, beautiful, awesome, wonderful. not as good as Sir Duke but still such a fantastic artist

Vond de vibe echt ziek leuk! 9/10 wel

No. 152 It's really good, I honestly wasn't expecting such a good album.

Eu amei. Meu primeiro Stevie! Higher Ground é incrível. Amo Don't you worry about a thing. Só coisa boa na verdade: um vozeirão, baixos doidos.

You can just feel this was made by someone who made a lot of good music already. It has it all; hits, sad songs, deep cuts, ... I liked it.

Está muy bueno, la verdad no me esperaba tan buen album

Personal favourites were Visions & Living for the city. Higher Ground is a song I've heard a lot but I didn't know it was from this album, so it was nice to hear it in the context of this album. I'd give it a 4/5.

3rd Stevie album from the generator and it's another good one. It's so damn funky. For Higher Ground alone I'm giving it a 4/5

Initially, I wasn’t feeling too good about this album until Living For The City hit, and things were off from there. I’ve only listened to Songs in the Key of Life, but this album made even more excited to hear more of Stevie’s albums.

Great from too top to bottom.

Stevie is one of my favourite artists to ever walk the Earth. However, this album is not my favourite, but for Higher Ground alone it should be loved. That song is insane. If it didn't have that one, it would probably be a 3, but that song elevates this whole record.

What’s Stevie wondering about

Stevie “Really Good Musician” Wonder Groovyyyy

I think I might love the 70's. Stevie's certainly trying to convince me. From the absolute get-go, this is utterly infectious. The 'Too High' groove is wild and I'm sure it must be sampled all over the hip-hop world. 'Living For The City' is kinda weird in ways I didn't expect from Stevie. 'All Is Fair In Love' is an impressive ballad but I'm a bigger fan of the man's more upbeat work. One of the longer albums I've listened to this week (45 minutes or so) but it's a gem. Not perfect but you'll remain impressed by Stevie Wonder. Supremely enjoyable.

Just a groovy, well-paced, written, and produced album with a few absolute hits. Close to a 5 tbh.

неожиданно легкий, приятный альбом. 7\10

Crisp, smooth and cool damn stevie you cooked with this one

I wanna listen to this whilst cooking. It was sick

:D Funkie

Smooth, catchy soul; loaded with classics.

Very very

Stevie Wonder is absolutely one of the best musicians ever. I swear every album has great music, lyrics that make you feel and just a vibe that carries through the album. This one is no exception to his usual high bar. Higher Ground, Don't you worry bout a thing! These are great songs. I love Stevie Wonder. Even the deep cuts are worth listening to. Great album.

really nice chill album, beautiful lyrics with smooth instrumentals. i recommend this to anymone that wants to bring their stress levels down especially after a long day

Very fun and felt easy to connect with

Моїй мамі могло б зайти. Дещо схоже, як на мене, на творчість Стінга. А ні. то тільки пісня «Visions». Спокійний, затишний. На чільові вечори.

Love me some 70s Stevie Wonder. Can't help but sway with the music.

love the RHCP cover

As a Stevie agnostic, this is my favorite album of his and it’s not even close. Really great stuff. Not sure it will ever be an all-time favorite, but it may continue to rise in my estimation. 4/5

Brilliant album One of my favorite albums of the classic period I love Stevie

This is album is incredible and Stevie definitely knows how to write a song. The instrumentals are on point. They have you grooving and vibing on some songs and in deep though on others. Stevie's singing is great as well and will have you feeling a lot of emotions. This album is fire.

Great album from start to finish Standout songs: Too High Living for the City Jesus children of America

Very chill album. Nice beats and smooth piano. Stevie Wonder's voice is one of a kind.

I’ll always have love for Stevie Wonder. He was the first Motown artist I had ever heard as child of the 2000’s.

I never really got into Stevie Wonder’s music. I knew the big hits, of course, because who doesn’t? But, the music never fully clicked with me. Innervisions starts off in jazz territory, with “Too High” hurting my head with its use of dissonant chords and weird vocal harmonies. It'd be a nightmare to listen to this song when you're too high. I’m not yet convinced. It took until song number three for me to get it. As soon as that iconic synth piano sound of “Living for the City” came on, my mind was changed. The central verse keyboard riff, with the driving bass line and Stevie’s AMAZING vocal performance is enough to sell me on this album and his entire back catalogue. But there’s so much more to the song. There's the shift from the minor chords to the majors of the chorus, before the TONTO orchestra takes off with some wild instrumentals. It's the best song on the album by a long shot and I absolutely love it. It's also the start of a pretty amazing three song run. “Golden Lady” is a fantastic song that’s simpler than the previous one, but catchy as hell. Towards the end of the song there's a ridiculous number of key changes. I wonder how high he got after the song faded out. Was he still keying up until he reached chipmunk levels? The third song in this unreal stretch in the middle of the album is “Higher Ground”, a tune so soaked in stank, it's hard to listen to without gurning. This is Stevie Wonder at his best. “Don't You Worry ‘Bout A Thing” is the other standout track, with an unexpected blend of soul with latin tango vibes. While there are a few songs on the album that I didn't gel with, the quality of the songs that I loved here MORE than make up for it. The fact that Stevie played nearly every instrument really shows what a crazily skilled musician that he is. Consider this the album where I finally got into Stevie Wonder’s music.

i haven’t really listened to a lot of Stevie Wonder but obviously know songs like superstition so i just assumed this would be a really good album however I felt pretty neutral about it overall. innervisions was pretty cohesive and i think a lot of that comes from the fact he produced and performed most of the album himself, there was way more synth than i was expecting but it worked really (surprisingly?) well within the soul/funk soundscape. despite my feelings, it is technically interesting in terms of pitch and i DO really like the use of extended chords (which is lacking in much modern music) it creates a far more interesting texture, also the syncopation and layering? amazing, it’s genuinely crazy to think he is a self taught musician. technically this was a great album with loads of lyrical and musical depth, sound wasn’t really for me but i feel like it would be a sin to give it anything less than a 4 regardless of my personal taste.

2/12 Pretty good

this is good! i hadn’t heard stevie’s voice as a young guy and damn the guy can sing and write excellent songs. very enjoyable and a nicely cohesive set of songs too. fave tracks: living for the city, golden lady, he’s misstra know it all

Quite good, but not as impressive as Songs in the Key of Life Fav track: He's Misstra Know-It-All

so good

This isn’t an album that stands out as amazing to me, but it had a couple bangers and was an overall fun listen.

I understand this is often considered one of the best 100 albums of all time, but I'm left feeling that this is a solid album where other than Don't You Worry Bout A Thing, the ceiling is relatively low. It hums around a 4 star and maybe touches a 5 during parts of that one song.

Three songs in—definitely funky. Not my favorite sound but I’m growing fonder of it. I can already tell how crucial this was as Stevie’s first album and also as a political statement, he has a beautiful voice. All in love is fair - holy shit Don’t you worry - Tory kelly kinda tore him up on her version

Wasn’t as mind blowing as my expectations led me to believe it would be but it was still super solid.

A dose of Stevie is always enjoyable!

Don't you worry about a thing

Liked a lot. Some songs more than others.

Well good I thought. Best songs are Visions, Living for the City and Higher Ground, but there wasn't a bad song on the thing! Good start

Loved the funky rhythms. I found the lyrics of several of the songs to be thought-provoking. Sad to realize so many of the difficult themes regarding race and religion remain relevant to our times today (even 50 years after they were written). Faves: Living for the City Jesus Children of America Higher Ground I would buy this album.

Some absolutely classic Stevie tracks in here. The sound is very dated now, but such a brilliant musician and singer.

When an instrument hits the nasty notes, I get SO invested in it.

Love it... but not as good as Songs in the Key of Life. Second day in a row that I've gotten an artist's second-best album. :-)

Stevie Wonder is a real smooth artist. I love his funky soul, especially the uptempo songs. You can tell he is enjoying playing and performing. I sometimes struggle a little with his slow songs, like Visions. I feel like he tries a little too much there. With some more time with the record I might upgrade it to a 5*. For now it’s a strong 4*. Favourite songs: Higher Ground, Living For The City, He’s Misstra Know It All, Don’t You Worry ‘bout a Thing.

As the follow up to Talking Book, this album is both stronger and weaker in places than its predecessor. Don’t get me wrong, this album 💿 is great, you won’t find a lot of early 70s R&B as well written, performed and produced as this record. This is a solid 4 with its eye on 5 among albums in general, but among Wonder’s other offerings during this, his “golden era” which culminates in the masterwork Songs in the Key of Life, this is most accurately a 3.5, but I’ll round it up to 4 since I love Stevie.

Stevie Wonder has some of the best vocal runs. He really just has one of the best voices in music. While this style of music is not really my favorite, this is definitely the right way to do it. As a Red Hot Chili Peppers fan, it's always good to listen to the original Higher Ground. None of these songs are filler.

I can see why people like this album so much 👉😎👉

Fantastic! I listened to this one in my high school classroom today, and while there's usually arguments over who picks the songs for the day, this one played in its entirety without any skips or complaints. It transcends generations. If I had to choose a favorite song, I'd go with "Don't You Worry 'Bout A Thing", but "Living For The City" had the whole class dancing.

Another one on the list that I’m not big on Stevie Wonder …I listen to the album and I can say now that I’m more accepting that before. Enjoyed some of the popular songs .

Another one I'll need to listen to again, loved the sound and his voice but did not pay attention all the way through

Stevie Wonder is a musical genius, that's not up for debate. There are plenty of cool grooves and jazzy beats, a classic for any Motown lover. With that said, I'm not a massive fan and I didn't love this album entirely. There are some superb tracks on here, namely "Don't You Worry 'Bout A Thing" and "Higher Ground" which are well known. Just can't see me going back to this.

Really groovy, funky, beatastic. Higher Ground is obviously the song that makes the album known, but the rest of the songs tie in pretty well with each other. It’s possible Stevie had the best 4 album run of the 70s, and this album really sets the tone for it.

I’m pleasantly surprised. This album is genuinely one of the better albums I’ve listened to.

Excellent funk and soul album. Stevie Wonder is an amazing singer. And he’s the whole package too — writing great songs and performing with a stellar band. “Living for the City” is an incredible track. Great funk song with a cinematic sweep. (It’s even got a skit in the middle where he gets arrested within minutes of arriving in New York City. It’s the sort of thing that’s become commonplace on a lot of rap albums. It deepens the social commentary of the song while also adding a bit of dark comedy.) And ooh “Higher Ground” is a jam too! Great song. I knew some of these songs already but this was my first time listening to the album straight through. It’s fantastic and I could see myself putting it classic territory with repeated listens. 4.5

Beautiful album. Stevie Wonder is a genius in my opinion and I don't feel alone in that sentiment. He has such a great feel for melody, harmony, arrangement, groove.. the list goes on, and it's all showcased here. "Higher Ground" and "Don't You Worry 'Bout A Thing" would be "best songs" for most other songwriters, but for Stevie Wonder they might not even be in his top 5.. which is wild. (I will say personally that "Higher Ground" is one of my favorites of his). I also loved "Living For The City". Funny enough I just got new speakers and was listening to this album while I was getting them figured out and that middle section where he has the SFX and little story being told really caught me off guard, and it sounded VERY real. Nice blend of this being recorded really well, and hearing it on speakers that are a big upgrade from my previous ones. It's a high 4/5, but just short of being high enough to round up to a 5.

One of the most musically mature albums I've ever heard. A great album to just put in and enjoy, simple and effective with a lot of complexity lurking under the surface. Not Wonder's best and has a notably stronger A side, but a very good album overall. Top tracks: Too High, Living For The City, Higher Ground

Good album, but didn't quite win me over

A solid album but lacking the big hits outside Higher Ground.

Heard of him. Favorites: Visions, Golden Lady, Don’t You Worry About A Thing Straight vibes, a must listen

Stevie Wonder is one of my go to's for feel good music. I usually listen to "Songs in the Key of Life" or just some of his hits, and hadn't heard this one before. Not quite as upbeat, but I still enjoyed it and there were some truly funky baselines on some of these tracks.

This voice is otherworldly. One of these songs are top 500 songs of all time for me. If I liked the rest of the songs more I would listen to this album all the time, but sadly it's just an occasional look in awe like when I bike to Niagara Falls, no need to spend all my time there. Too many albums here are me looking at musical genius and wishing I liked it more.

so soothing I think I was daydreaming throughout it

Love Stevie…

I was already familiar with Stevie Wonder and some of the tracks from this album. It's a very good album. I would listen again for sure.

#1 & #2 were great but started to feel a bit repetitive. #3 was such a bright contrast to the whomps and bomp of the first 2. Plus, I love a story telling song. Dark ending. #4 Bouncing between the bouncy happy song and the lower register songs really keep the momentum going. Damn, I was surprised the end came so soon.

FUNKY ASF. Tell me, holy. Holy roller His voice is so powerful and honestly made me tear me up in all in love is far.

Really likeddddd. Upbeat

Lush and warm production (if a little panny, but it's 1973). Stevie's voice is excellent, particularly on All In Love Is Fair. Don't You Worry 'Bout A Thing is a huge standout for me.

This is a classic Stevie Wonder album. Lots of classics on this one that I've heard before, but I've never listened to the whole album in its entirety. It's really a well put together and well rounded album with everything from ballads to funky songs that you want to dance to. Even more impressive is the fact that the album is pretty much a Stevie Wonder solo production - not only does he play most all of the instruments on the album, but he wrote all the songs and produced all the tracks.

Stevie always hits. Favourite Track(s): Living for the City, Jesus Children of America Least Favourite Track(s): Golden Lady

Classic Stevie

Stevie Wonder is one of the greatest voices and musicians in pop music. He's also a legendary songwriter, though that's not consistently apparent on this album. I get why this album won a Grammy for engineering. I wish there weren't so many forced rhymes, but they're gracefully masked by that voice.

Shame on me for never hearing this album before. A truly remarkable work. So much depth and creativity. Amazing!

What you would expect from Stevie Wonder, in a good way.

Great album. Groovy beats and stellar lyrics.

Great listen and musically complicated!

Takeaways: "Too high" "Don't you worry 'bout a thing"

Respekt

blind boy shocks music, plays synth in perfect cantonese

Stevie my goat

Great album, but if we're being honest, the first half is better than the second half.

By itself, one song on this album gets the rating close to four stars. Nothing else on “Innervisions” is quite as transcendent, but Wonder set a cool funky-soul vibe and committed to it. So good. This is probably closer to 3.5 stars than 4.0 stars, but I'm forced to round up. Favorite Track: "Higher Ground".

Great record. In particular, electric pianos and synths are amazing.

listened to again one of the greats

Some highs, some lows. Overall good.

После более чем двадцати альбомов из списка Стиви ощущается как глоток воздуха. Кто-то тут написал, что он всегда хотел, чтобы Стиви ему нравился, но не получалось. Кажется, у меня получилось:)

Dude this is only album number 1, but holy fuck it’s hard to beat Stevie. Genuinely got chills from some of these (the ones i hadn't already heard).

less invasive "off the wall". basically perfect and even as an atheist the gospel stuff is kinda cool. but the last song annoys me.

Comme d'hab très sympa et un peu plus funky

t not his best but good

Desparramar un talento enorme y trascender no siempre van de la mano. Pero para Stevie Wonder en Innervisons sí La piedra filosofal del acid jazz y el funk Sublime

Pretty good! I'd listen to this again.

Funky. Good music.

Great soul funk album Song I like: Don’t you worry bout A Thing, is Misstra know it all.

Best Track - "Higher Ground"

Some awesome grooves, particularly on the back half. Debated a 5. Thoroughly enjoyed this one.

Love Stevie, I prefer talking book and SITKOL

Not at all what I expected! A really unique sound, with lots of classical and jazz influence. Wonder's vocals sound amazing on this recording. "Living for the City" and "All in Love is Fair" we're my favoirte.

Bangers. Higher Ground remains my favorite. What a dope artist.

<insert inappropriate joke about vision>

Nella prossima vita sarò stevie wonder

don’t think i’ve never not liked Stevie Wonder’s music, genuinely feel so warm whenever i hear his songs

Some snoozes but enough bangers to balance it out

좋은데 난 그거노란배경이더좋음

groovy, soms een klein beetje repetitive maar dat vond ik niet erg

Not as good as songs in the key of life but still peak

Good I think, but didn’t touch me

Loved the Rythm and vibes off Innervisions. You could feel the lines being felt and intentions sung by Stevie in this album. Truly great album.

... Hell yea.

Arguably the 5th or 6th best Stevie album…. But it’s still Stevie. 4/5

Great record. I only knew “Don’t You Worry ‘Bout a Thing,” but was blown away over and over by Stevie’s voice and groove. 8/10 Most Excellent

I enjoyed this one

I found the funk.

This album had some mega hits from Stevie and the tone of the album made me want to dance.

I didn’t know Stevie played so many of instruments on this album. Amazing talent and creativity. Favourite tracks, too high, living for the city, higher ground, don’t you worry ‘bout a thing.

Stevie Wonder is always a classic

Excellent record. Hadn't heard this one before, but seems to me that Stevie Wonder can't miss.

My first Stevie wonder album, surprised how jazzy it was to start with. But really love the production, the vibe overall and the singles which are obviously the big hitters in the album. Hoping to get more out of his discography in the list.

Play that funky music Stevie Wonder Favorites: Living For The City, Higher Ground (ofc)

Very good, was happy to immediately listen again. reminds me that I need to listen to songs in the key of life all the way through

Classic

The prolific, unsinkable legend

I usually think SW is a little over-glorified. His songs are great, yes, and they’ve been covered and sampled and parodied to death. Often, when I listen to a SW album, I have a moment where I say ‘that’s where that came from!’ You can’t deny his inventive genius. But, he’s usually not my first choice. I usually only put on SW when listening through lists like this and the Rolling Stone 500, so it’s always kinda felt like homework to get through a SW album. Maybe this is the one that finally changed my mind. I was pretty into this from start to finish. To think, I have Innervisions on vinyl, it’s just secondhand and has a big scratch down the middle. I’d have listened to this long ago.

Great hits with some filler

Golden lady is such a great track, love Stevie wonders catalog and this album is no different

Initially I was thinking... Well even the greats have an off album. But it ended up being pretty cool. A suitable meme would be "Had us in the first half, not gonna lie."

I loved this album, evry sing was amazing. Would definitely listen to again.. Stevie Wonder GOAT, ive never heard him like this and i really liked it.

I have this on vinyl and know/love his 1970’s. 1. Higher Ground 2. Don't You Worry 'Bout A Thing 3. He's Misstra Know-It-All

Powerful political commentary at the start. Gets distracted.

Some songs are a bit lengthy, but nonetheless good. No real fails on this album, but some classic songs.

Stevie Wonder! Higher Ground, Living for the City, He's Misstra Know-it-All, when Stevie hits, he hits on all fucking cylinders.

solid 4

I own this one and it's a great listen. Packed with good songs.

8/10 really good. Def need this on vinyl

A drawback of growing up in the '80s is thinking of Stevie Wonder as only the "I Just Called to Say I Love You" guy. Eventually I got wise, though, and this is great. "Living for the City," "Higher Ground"—somewhere out there is a person who prefers the RHCP's version, may God have mercy on their soul—"He's Misstra Know-It-All" are bangers, and there's plenty more good stuff on here. Slower moments like "All in Love is Fair" and "Jesus Children of America" don't do much for me, but the rest makes up for it.

Higher Ground. Best in show. The rest of it is that very good soulful sound he's known for.

Fun, love the instrumentals, especially the clavinet. Stevie's lyrics are incredible, he transports me effortlessly to the story of each song.

Sounds so ahead of its time. I’m a sucker for soul/funk

The Good: We are going to be introspective… right? The Bad: A Stevie Wonder album that references sight… The Ugly: The above line… uncalled for… And again Stevie has us bobbing our heads, tapping our feet, while making us smile. Though not my favorite of his classical period, it is non-the-less a tour the force to listen to! Oddly enough, there are no SW albums besides his classic period, which I find a little weird, seeing as he’s still recording, he’s still touring… and yet I have to listen to bands I’ve never heard of in the 2000s… Conflicted on what to give this album… wish we could rate based on 10, not 5, then this would be a 9… 4*

solid, liked the jesus song the most. good vocalist

7.9/10

1. Too High: harmonica 7/10 2. Visions: mellow, wistful for a better future, upright bass 8/10 3. Living for the City 9/10 4. Golden Lady: Last 2 minutes is great 8/10 5. Higher Ground: 9/10 6. Jesus Children of America: 9/10 7. All In Love Is Fair: love and war, vocals 10/10 8. Don't You Worry Bout a Thing: 8/10 9. He's Misstra Know It All: 8/10 Overall: 8.5/10

Clearly massively influential, some great songs, amazing storytelling, and a great single on the album too.

Was expecting more :/ 3.9

Funky and soulful, everything great about Stevie wonder. My fav tracks are Golden lady, Don't you worry 'bout a thing and He's misstra no-it-all.

3 great songs the rest are good

Høydepunkt: Visions, Golden Lady, He's Misstra Know-It-All For et deilig album!!!!!!!! Dette kommer jeg til å høre masse på.

good stuff 4/5

Moins eu de réaction emotionnelle à celui-ci qu’à nos autres offres de soul jusqu’à maintenant. Par ailleurs pour avoir déjà écouté Songs in the key of life, il me semble qu’il a plus résonné avec moi

I love this album. I would have never have listened to this. I feel like there are songs that are so vulnerable and tells a story. “Don’t you worry bout a thing, cause I’ll be standing in the side, when you check it out, when you get off your trip” “Everybody needs a change, A chance to check out the new but your the only one to see the changes you take yourself through” “A touch of rain and sunshine made the flower grow” “And it’s so clear to me that you’re my dream come true” My faves: - Don’t You Worry Bout A Thing - Higher Ground - Too High - All In Love Is Fair - Golden Lady

Funky synths, ahoy! Coupled with Wonder really giving it his all vocally, you've got a pretty good album on your hands. Soul isn't really my jam, but it's easy to see why Stevie Wonder got so huge. Innervisions is fun, meaningful, and talent all on display. Standouts on this listen were "Living for the City" "Higher Ground." "Golden Lady" grew on me and "All in Love is Fair" has an incredible vocal performance. Even though I don't usually listen to this kind of stuff and may not revisit this much, I can't deny this album's 4 star worthiness. It's pretty great all in all.

A great start to the challenge.

Stevie Wonder sure can sing!

Great soul/funk. Stevie is not really for me - it’s all too smooth - but I can appreciate this album. Last 2 tracks were my favorites. High 4.

Love me some Stevie Wonder, always.

Lots of high points. So incredibly creative musically and lyrically. 7/10

Me ha gustado, pero tampoco una locurapara ser Stevie Wonder

Amazingly thick funk-soul album. Great backing back and Stevie is on top form. Still not as perfect as Talking Book and Songs in the Key but a fantastic album nonetheless.

It was a great album, just not my favorite style or vibe.

I love Stevie and his voice. There were two bangers I recognized. Solid!

I actually really liked it a lot better than I thought. I only didn’t like the last song

This is such a cool album; everyone should own it. It's on my shelves. Heard before ✅️ Listened this time ✅️ Revisit ✅️ ★★★★☆ (8/10)

God start! Faktisk tæt på et no-skip album. Kendte kun en af sangene i forvejen, og er positivt overrasket over resten også.

I liked the variety it had. Overall probably wouldn’t listen to it again, not my vibe, but I enjoyed the jazz element and the piano on certain songs. My favourite songs were: living for the city, all love is fair, don’t you worry bout a thing and he’s misstra know it all.

Mostly just a jam fest, but a really enjoyable one with a few standout tracks in the mix Favorite Tracks: Living For the City, Don't You Worry, Misstra Know It All, Higher Ground, All In Love Is Fair

4.0 - Very Good

My favourite album from Stevie Wonder. He catches each groove perfectly on this one, and produces his most interesting stuff songwriting. Best Tracks: - Living For The City - Higher Ground - Don't You Worry 'Bout A Thing Worst Tracks: N/A Rating: 9/10

Great album, will certainly come back to it, how did it happen that I haven't listened to any Stevie Wonder yet??? No idea, but I am glad I finally did.

Beautiful work

Loved it. Will listen again.

Very good album. I love the sounds Stevie put onto this Album. I especially like the Piano work and the drums are very well done as well. Just the entire band is so damn tight its an amazing listen. Stevie absolutely has a great singing voice. This is one groovy album worth a listen.

9 / 10

I didn't see that comin

wonderful vocal range and production.

muy funky me gusto, un poco repetitiva la letra y demasiado largas algunas canciones pero lo volveria a escuchar

Toyed between a 3 and a 4 and settled on 4. While I'm unlikely to re-listen to it, the album was brilliant, exquisitely put together and clearly a masterpiece. My 5s are for records that I add to the rotation, and my bar for "I liked this but won't listen to it again probably" was gonna be 3, but I think I have to give this the extra mark for excellence. In hindsight, I should have done the same for Highway 61 Revisited but there you go.

Great funk and soul album. First track has that sneaky funk for a pretty serious theme. Higher Ground and dont you worry bout a thing always gets ya movin.

A classic but not my favorite Stevie Wonder record.

It's good, but not quite up to the greatness of Songs In the Key of Love.

This was another great album listen from Stevie Wonder! I continue to be impressed by how catchy and intricate his songs are. I love the R&B, soul, jazz, and funk vibes of this album. Overall, I very much enjoyed this album and I would definitely listen to it again in the future!

Very solid, range of vibes

Impressive, a blind man’s inner vision

It was fun to hear the full album that had some of the hit songs I’ve listened to my whole life. It was easy to do no skips.

Guitar on visions in crazy Lead is a repeating motif layering it with vocals is mmm. One part was crazy tho w the jail thing. I mean u can't really go wrong with Stevie. Good well written songs pergormed and produced really well. I need to chime in to lyrics more tho tbf Misstra know it all feels like a church service ngl

It's Stevie Wonder, no fucking wonder!

Two classic songs. Dig it.

A slow burn punctuated by a few high moments. Higher Ground is a notable high point. Visions sounds a little like an early King Crimson song. This album is a great headphone listen.

Didn't know higher ground was originally Stevie wonder song Groovy songs

5 Incredible album, listened for the first time a couple months ago. stevie really is one of the best songwriters and singers of all time.

Amazing

Great album—good sound, good message. Soul/funk is something I always enjoy when it’s on but never think to put on, but this is an album I’ll add to my repertoire

Don’t You Worry ‘Bout A Thing!

lots of grade a tracks here!

not bad for a first listen. enjoy the funk.

A masterful blend of soul and funk. I dig it.

My last Stevie Wonder album, Fulfillingness, was an underwhelming experience but I enjoyed this one much more - even more so than his magnum opus, Songs In The Key Of Life. I recalled Living For The City after forgetting of its existence, I appreciated the funky little bridge where he changes key. Of course Higher Ground is a classic, and the remaining tracks were all quite solid.

It's a product of it's time, but it's still wonderful to listen to Stevie Wonder do his thing. The songs are all well crafted and this here we see Wonder pushing out into more political themes which allows for a more varied set of songs than his earlier R&B love songs. It's still funky and soulful with a good groove. Solid stuff, but so of a time it's hard to find it super relevant. Would still put on while making dinner. I love the cover! It's also of a time but it's interesting and understated and I dig it, the cover is a 5/5.

I've already listened to his album (37). Love Stevie Wonder. One of its best.

Genial, aber nicht so perfekt wie Songs in the Key of Life

Can't go wrong with Stevie, Higher Ground is an all-timer

Some of this album is surprisingly proggy, which I guess makes sense given it was his more experimental phase. As you'd expect there's a frankly absurd amount of groove to this. Obviously, Higher Ground is an all-timer banger (though I could've done without the Jesus fellatio directly afterwards) It's a little bit weak lyrically in places but I really enjoyed this

excellent record. Great variety with musical layers. favorite track is Living in the City

I didn't really care for the first two songs so after loving "Songs in the key of life" I was bit worried this just wasn't the same quality. That quickly changed with track 3. And from their he knocked the rest of the album out of the park. Strong 4* only thing stopping it from a 5* is the first two songs

With every Stevie Wonder album I listen to here, I gain a deeper appreciation for his body of work. I don’t realize the level of social consciousness he had in his music.

In common with other Stevie albums on this list there are 4 or 5 fantastic tracks on this album and 4 or 5 ok tracks … so I can’t give it 5⭐️

I really like this album. I have for a long time, but I do see its flaws.

Highlight. In the city, higher ground

While not as sprawling or diverse as Stevie's masterpiece, Innervisions is still a great album in its own right. "Higher Ground" is the hit and the funkiest song, but the more jammy funk tracks like "Living for the City" are better. That one in particular shows how Stevie could weave social commentary into his songs and keep them hard hitting and danceable while not losing the message. I'll never be as big of a fan of his smoother soul songs, like "All in Love is Fair," but there's only a few of them here, and the album closes on a strong run; "Don't You Worry About a Thing" is just pure joy. No one blended funk, soul, and rock quite like Stevie, and though this isn't his most adventurous album it's a more condensed, jam-packed display of this vocal and musical talents.

Not as many bangers as his later albums, but the genius of Stevie is on full display

*Great R&B album *Living for the City is an awesome track

Really excited to get my first Wonder album! Already listened to this in the past, today re-listened to this album a few times and man, I really wish to give this one 5 stars, but I love about half of the songs here and other half I don't care too much about so easily very solid 4 stars.

Minimalism in Stevie's music

Beautiful. I liked the second part of the album better

bardzo ładny album, niektóre piosenki stevie wonder znam ale akurat nie z tej płyty

Stevie doesn't miss. There is certainly some Stevie Wonder fatigue after listening to so many of his songs. If you've heard one album you've heard me all. But still great music.

Stevie Wonder. Innervisions. deserves to be one of the 1001? yes!

Great!

Stevie is always a classic

A delightful and impactful album from one of the great musical talents of the late 20th century. If you've only heard the edited, "radio" version of "Living for the City" that was released as a single, you owe it to yourself to hear the full version included on the album, which far more directly and powerfully addresses the way dreams can collide with social and racial injustice. For that seven and a half minutes alone, this album is essential. But it's certainly not the only reason to listen to this great work.

Really enjoy Stevie Wonder!

Pretty universally considered his 2nd best album after Songs in the Key of Life and as fan of that album, which contains his best songs, I'd say that this, as a single album, is probably his most accessible due to it's concise length and inclusion of some classic songs, namely, Living for the City , Don't You Worry About a Thing and Higher Ground, which I first heard as a RHCP cover (this is much better!) Unlike Songs in the Key... which has it's softer and more tender moments, this is pretty consistently upbeat and groove-laden and a very easy listen. It's the Saturday night album compared to its successors Sunday morning vibes. Both are great in their own way!

Can't believe I still haven't dove deeep on Stevie. I think I tried once a few years ago and wasn't ready. I'm still not sure I'm quite ready but I do 'get it' so much more this time around. This is a true master at work - no doubt. I'm not sure I've heard much music that is so complex while also being so accessible. Stevie makes sure to bring the listener up to his level - he wants you to come along for the ride, like truly. Too High brought me in right away. Fuck the drums sound so good on this record. The hi-hats sound so musical. It's fun listening to these 1001 records and hearing moments of tracks that sound familiar. I knew this keyboard line just from DJ Rashad's Chicago juke track I'm Too High (2006) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2G8OLfnW1bc Also -- I had heard (and love) Robert Glasper's recording of 'Jesus Children' (2013). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I3-7S5nbdwk (which also features Lalah Hathaway on vocals - she has some beaaautiful R&B stuff from the 90s like this one - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0EnAVD00cUw). Apparently she has performed w/ Stevie, too! When I was younger I remember vividly that whenever he was involved in any Grammys performance, the artists attending were always so so moved by him and his presence. Beginning to feel that. Excited to listen to more Stevie through this (I'm assuming there's more coming). Tracks like Higher Ground are the ones from Stevie that don't speak to me -- sort of like 'Superstition'. That straight-ahead drum beat funk stuff just is not my jam. Fav tracks: Too High, Visions, He's Misstra Know-It-All

Chord changes are insane Visions is way weirder than I thought Stevie Wonder got Wow Living For the City is heavy (emotionally). The skit in the bridge! Golden Lady not doing much for me Higher Ground, a classic I never knew the name of. The rhythmic machinery of the guitars and the Clav with the swing of the rhythm section. GROOVY All In Love Is Fair - what a singer. Whoa Spanish Those chromatic climb-downs with harmonies. Wild Misstra Know it All - just feels so good. Motown knew how to make things feel good!!! Drums are drummer’s perspective Love that fade out refrain. A gorgeous record. So musically sophisticated, and still so many hooks. I’ve never really gone deep into the soul/funk/RNB realm, so I’m listening without much cultural context, but from a sheer musicality standpoint it’s amazing, and the social commentary felt pretty heavy at times. Though I’m not sure how often I’ll revisit it, I feel enriched having listened to it. I’m going 4 on this bad boy.

First time listening. Many songs sound familiar, albeit from samples or movies/tv shows or covers. A really smooth and pleasant sounding. I prefer Stevie’s voice to Curtis’ voice. Really warm and enjoyable! A pleasant surprise. Did not know I’d like Stevie this much.

fat all chewed up, now sticky and frozen, raw as they come all beaten and swollen, coldening fingers and watery words as they pour into its insides all blown out in the floor, for a lie that youve been told an afternoon thats out and loaned, i try to swallow all its rests the amount now thinning until gone, and when the fat lies there no more, all crumbs like bread in my mouth now torn, i will be dreaming of it all for evermore

Overall a good and enjoyable listen which went relatively quick. Stand out tracks for me were: Living For The City, Higher Ground and All In Love Is Fair (loved his voice on this track)

Really like this album, just didn't quite hit me in the feels like I get the sense some of Stevie Wonder's other music does, but it was an enjoyable experience that I'll be sure to return to in the future. Very solid!

Wonderful album, his 70s music is so far ahead of it's time. This one has a couple of fillers but it flows beautifully together and the strong tracks are immense.

The highs are incredible - talking about the starting and ending tracks in particular. The album transitions very well throughout and feels very cohesive. There are 1-2 weaker tracks in the middle of the b-side but never gets unpleasant.

Just excellence all round (love how the songs flow into each other too). Would have got 5 stars if just based on quality, but it's just not something I'd repeat over and over genre-wise.

Wunderbar. Keine schlechten Songs bis auf das kurze seltsame Spanisch oder was das war. Einfach angenehme Musik.

One of Stevie Wonder's best albums that highlights his talents. He's not only playing most of the instruments himself, but also easily navigates between smoother and more relaxing styles to serious issues. It's funkier, it's soulful, it's more gospel depending on what you need. So, I had a lot of fun with this album and will listen to it more. Can't give it 5 stars because it doesn't really blow me away.

Illegal to critique Stevie but imma do it. Not his most engaging release for me. Higher ground is unmatched but the rest felt musically tight but didn’t touch me the way that songs in the key of life did. First listen was half in car half playing disc golf and second listen was half disc golf and half in car so I think I got the full spectrum. I think I just wish this album was hyper.

Crack total negro. Al ángulo todas. Inigualable. 8/10

More Stevie wonder, what else can I say? Not quite SITKOL but not much else is, a pleasure regardless

First time listening to Stevie Wonder. It’s about what I expect, and that’s not an insult.

Album bonbon.

8 - GOOD

Some great tracks on here, but this is far from my favorite Stevie Wonder album. But, most Stevie Wonder albums are good enough to make this list, including this one.

Really good to hear the entire album.

Iconic, and also the exact kind of music I'd love to see live at a small venue with good drinks.

The man is just an awesome signer/songwriter. Beautiful album.

Härlig röst och härliga grooves

Less hits, but a very well constructed album. Can listen to it over and over again.

Really great album, Stevie has a ton of range on this. Though I enjoyed it a lot I'm not sure if it's something I'd often listen to however.

pearse's favorite stevie wonder song "golden lady" is on this. a really lovely friday album, though not as many hits as his others.

Love Stevie Wonder, never listened to Innervisions before. The few two tracks are much moodier than most of the pop Stevie Wonder I'm familiar with. I am seeing where Thundercat gets some of his mojo from. "Living For The City" is a very conscious song and this is a much more serious Stevie Wonder than "Songs in the Key of Life". "Higher Ground" is of course a total classic. 10/10 song. For 1973 he's doing a ton with different influences that are pretty ahead of their time - "Don't You Worry 'Bout A Thing" is very eclectic for the funk/R&B of the time. Overall, I definitely enjoyed the album. I don't personally think it's as dynamic or impressive as some of his other work but it is certainly Stevie Wonder and a great record. Easy 4/5.

Another incredible Stevie classic. This music is so rich and so well arranged. It’s not perfect but it’s a hell of an album. I appreciate the experimentation, but not every track hits as hard as the gold standard that Stevie has earned.

Too High - funky, but maybe a bit repetitive, missing a hook? Visions - meh Living For The City - top tier song Golden Lady - liking this one! Higher Ground - a perfect song Jesus Children of America - this is def. a new one for my funk/soul playlist, love it! All In Love Is Fair - just ok Don't You Worry 'Bout A Thing - Love it! He's Misstra Know-It-All - Good album ender All in all, there are maybe two skips on this album, but I loved it!

Undeniably enchanting.

In this album Stevie Wonder experiments with synths and the result is fantastic. Favourites: Jesus Children Of America (that ''shaft'' boogie sound,so good) All in Love Is Fair, the piano, the singing, perfection, Don't You Worry 'Bout A Thing, never ever any other artist has convinced me to groove in a latin rhythm(which i hate)before, genius song, genius harmonies, He's Misstra Know-It-All,what a vibe and beautiful lyrics, Golden Lady has the perfect lyrics and it's so dreamy like the ''love boat''. It's 4/5 to me.

Not hard to see why this one is on here. Very quality, even if it doesn't have the hits of some of his other albums.

‘Higher Ground’ was the highlight here

Not my favorite, but of course so incredibly solid. Living for the city and higher ground are just classics.

Amazing album here from a GOAT. Innervisions is more of a spiritual funk/soul album compared to SITKOL which I can appriciate. This one takes a more bold leap for when it was released and I think he executed it very well. Solid 8/10.

wasn't a huge fan of the first few songs when I listened to it for the first time but I looked a second time and I liked it more, rest of the songs were good

Generally brilliant. Living for the City lives in my head. Higher Ground and even the slower songs bop.

My favorite Stevie album that I've listened to so far.

Beautiful voice- but most songs sound the same. I really love "Don't you worry 'bout a thing". I found the little skit interesting. they're a staple in the hip-hop genre. Did Stevie start this tradition?

Another great album by Stevie

While the songs overall aren't as strong as some of his other records, the creativity and talent still shines through, both in strong vocals and the overall songwriting.

Falls off slightly due to the non-single tracks being a bit forgettable, but it holds together as an album, and Higher Ground deserves a star of its own.

Is Innervisions Stevie Wonder’s greatest album? It might be. By 1973, Stevie had gone from child genius to full-on visionary. He played almost everything on the record himself and used it to call out racism, religion, drugs, and politics—all without losing the groove. “Living for the City” hit like a punch. “Higher Ground” felt like a second chance. He was only 23, blind, and still saw more clearly than everyone else. Three days after the album came out, he nearly died in a car crash, which makes “Don’t You Worry ’Bout a Thing” feel almost eerie. This was the moment Motown grew up and Stevie was rewriting what pop could be. So yeah, maybe Songs in the Key of Life was bigger. But Innervisions hit hardest.

Always surprised by how many tracks on SW albums are classics.

I was in such a bad mood when starting this and it completely lifted me out of it

Amazing

Clearly one of Wonder's best albums. Just 9 tracks, but many of them are classics (and required listening).

It’s an amazing album. It sounds perfect too. Still, I struggle to find songs on here that I’ll definitely come back to. Loved it, but don’t think I’ll listen to it often

4th Stevie album I've gotten and if I can encapsulate it in some way... look at it like this: If Songs in the Key of life was this epic hour and a half and Talking Book was a trim 40 mins of mostly good songs, the Innervisions is the best middle point. You get Stevie is in his A game with some of the best songs he's written (Inject Too High and Don't Worry 'bout a Thing straight into my VEINS) but in a comfortable 40 mins. It's everything you'd want in a Stevie thing and then some. I think I generally like SITKOL more but I wouldn't be surprised if I end up returning to this one way more.

Loved this. So many great tracks on this album.
