Reviews (page 7 of 13)

Loved it, never listened to the full album before. It paints a much stronger picture for sure. I wonder if frank ocean listened to Too High before writing Channel orange

Reminds me of a lot of Graham music. I really love the mixing, the plucks of the guitar are so clear. It's so warm. I'd really like to look into Progressive Soul more. The energy when the drums kick in on the track Living for the City :) Golden Lady is my fav <3

Really great album, solid vibes. Loves to hear any Stevie wonder albums pop up. It’s so close to a 5 for me, but it doesn’t stick with me like done of the 5s do but is a good time.

One of the best albums of all time. Pitchfork: 10.0 Rolling Stone: Top 500 Albums #34 Best Songs Living For The City Higher Ground All in Love Is Fair Don't You Worry 'Bout A Thing

Spectacular. Little Jazz. Little funk. Great stuff. 9/10

Low 4 I think, maybe high 3, some great tracks, don't love the way it ends though. If it's not one of the great tracks, it's a fine but forgettable track

Funny to get this the same week as Talking Book. I think Talking Book is the better album even though I imagine many think otherwise. Still a great album. Choose the opener (Too High) and closer (He’s Misstra Know-It-All) for the playlist.

Have I just stumbled upon the quintessential pop-soul album? It's not a genre I have much experience with at all, but there's surely not much else out there to rival this in quality. One of those albums where everything hangs together impeccably, despite some absolutely bonkers ideas regularly cropping up out of left field, and such a wealth of diversity from track to track. Stevie Wonder's voice is fantastic, and through his lyrics he explores themes of striving for world peace, the trials and tribulations of living in the US as a person of colour during the Civil Rights era, and throughout there's a perfectly balanced blend of gratitude for life, but also an anger towards the pool of injustices and challenges it brings. It reconciles the chaos and upheaval of inner-city life into such a wonderful sonic experience. Getting to hear stuff like this for the first time is precisely why I signed up for this monolithic undertaking.

Not on par with songs in the key of life but otherwise really good for Stevie. Definitely feels like less filler than talking book

Stevie makes hit after hit on this record, demonstrating his range while maintaining a consistent soul and theme in the music

Every song has a nice groove to it. Very pleasant album

Album 902 of 1089 Stevie Wonder - Innervisions (1973) Rating : 4 / 5 Some awesome tracks here that really let him show off those strong vocals, and the whole thing carries that positively upbeat energy that’s so characteristic of Stevie. The production is top-notch, with every instrument sitting just right in the mix, giving it a polished but still soulful feel. Songs like “Higher Ground” and “Living for the City” really stood out, not only for their groove but also for the messages behind them. It’s just a nice-sounding album all around - proof once again of why Stevie Wonder is held in such high regard.

I may be unfair but for my taste there are too few memorable songs on here.

Pretty good

One of the best black albums of all time. 1973.

I love Stevie. This is a great one IMO

Higher Ground is obviously an amazing song. The rest of the album was pretty solid too. I'd say 3.5 - will round up.

just a spectacular musician! such a huge fan of his voice, it is so beautiful.

Wow. Great instrumentals and overall funk vibe with soulful lyrics. Will be listening to again.

honestly I think I spoiled myself by hearing songs in the key of life first, that album is so amazing its hard to listen to stevies other music. this is for sure very good though.

I generally like Stevie Wonder. I don’t own anything, but there’s a good amount of his songs on the radio that I like when they come on. But I’m not actively seeking him out. This album was better than expected, but that’s not a big surprise to me. I’ve always known that Stevie was talented and makes interesting music. It was just more interesting than I anticipated. I thought the way he bounced around unexpectedly in Visions was great. It was a series of unorthodox changes that he made in the song, but it was always in tune, which had to have been very hard to pull off. This song reminded me of Safe by George Michael, though I’m not quite sure why, as the tenor of the song is not close to the same. Higher Ground I’ve always loved, though I have to admit that I first heard this song when the Chili Peppers did it and I still prefer their version. There were others like Living For the City or the closing track which were excellent as well. Not an unbelievable album for me, but it was very good record.

Can't go wrong with Stevie Wonder! Great, funky basslines and good vocals. I did enjoy Songs in the Key of Life a tad more, however.

Liked higher ground and living for the city. And the rest is alright too. It does not reach the variety of songs in the key of life but has better songs than on talking book. Luckily my rating can sit perfectly between them.

I found myself liking this album, more than what I thought in the beginning. It grows and, even though there are some songs that are not that good, it is such a nice listening, and really enjoyable too.

SO GOOD. SO SO SO GOOD. bop after bop after bop, the goat is at it again

Gorgeous

I love this album. I was familiar with the hits but had never heard the "lesser" tracks which are wonderful too. Definitely deserves to be on the list and I hope there are many more Stevie Wonder albums to come

Vabbè lo conoscevo e stevie wonder é sempre stevie wonder. Comunque album super potente. Riascolterò quasi tutto

Stevie is a king

Cannot stand Stevie, but he's a great musician. This album is cool as it is very jazzy and outstanding music.

87/100 3rd elite pull from this, incredible album man idek what to say about it, just absolutely incredible

Fantastic album! Lots of Stevie’s signature funk sound with some soul and slow jams thrown in. My favorite album I’ve heard by him.

First one was interesting. Visions was meh. Living For The City is a certified working class banger. ***In general these songs are way longer than current songs. Album has like 9 songs but they're all 5+ mins.*** Golden Lady has some bond song vibes. Higher Ground is the first song on the album that I knew prior. Also a banger tbf JCOA was fine. Kinda funky. AILIF is a bit of a slowdown v the rest. Don't hate it, bit of a slow ballad so felt out of place. Bout a thing has some beat I feel I know. Was good. He's Mistra is ok

It's probably unfair to say that this was surprisingly good because obviously everybody (especially anyone watching Sesame Street in the 90s) is familiar with Stevie Wonder. But before this I don't think I could identify any of his songs. I certainly recognized a few on this album. And overall I can see why he was so iconic. Great album.

A delight to listen to

Love those smooth, dulcet tones. Well done Stevie!! Fave Song: Too High

Don't You Worry 'Bout A Thing.

amazing

Another amazing album. Really enjoyed majority of the songs: visions, jesus children of america, dont you worry bout a thing, and more. My favorite was Golden Lady though, so good. Really liked Living for the City, but the dialogue aspect got a little long (obviously important though). Still, would consider there to be no skips here.

Groovy af

Rich and odd and funky.

Scho e freaking Legend de Stevie! Chili Wonderwoman de! Kenneder Wonderwall? Keis wonder. Tönt alles gliis. Ussert de wonderbarie Wonder Stevie de jüngst. durchs durerushe und em schaffe doch ned chöne 100% inegeh aber für vier Wonderwaffle langets allemal

Pure class from Stevie here

Peaceful vibes Stevie cooking on this one

A solid listen from one of the classic producers of funk

Best songs are great, others keep the vibe going

I enjoyed this album more than the previous, which was by Prince. I thought it carried a more consistent theme and was more accessible to a first time listener. Enjoyed the classic jams!

Very clear why this is considered a classic. Inventive and catchy sounds and a very enjoyable listen

"Living For The City" is where Spelunky stole like... All of its saxophone. Any sax in the Spelunky OST would seem to come right from that, if not Stevie's wider catalog. Sufficiently funking!

Not bad although many songs feel long.

This album delivers a lively funk wrapped in a sound as smooth as silk. Stevie Wonder’s songwriting and groove are all in top form, creating an album that’s both socially conscious and endlessly listenable. Overall, a great listen.

Awesome album, diverse in style and lyric topics. Great groove throughout, when Stevie still had funk in him, before becoming cheesy.

Couple of songs push this to 4* for me. Most of it's a bit too mellow/bland for me to love it, though.

Mixed bag, but overall fantastic and enjoyable. Some big tracks on this album that hit hard in the best way

Essential Stevie Wonder. Funky arrangements, soulful singing, lyrics with (still relevant) social themes.

I don’t feel like one listen is enough. I really enjoyed it, and of course I knew a one of them already, but it feels like an album that needs to be digested slowly. I feel like it’s pretty different from Songs in the Key of Life in terms of tone and musicality. It actually reminded me a lot of Marvin Gaye’s What’s Going On?

pretty good, not my favorite stevie

For every other album I've rated so far, I've given it a complete listen start to finish. However I had to give this one a second listen. I first listened to this with my headphones down low while working at my desk. I didn't enjoy my first listen very much and I assumed I was missing something. Second time around, I turned it up and discovered that there are fantastic tracks on this album. I'm sure with more listening I'd come to love it even more.

Funk blended with soul. Genre mashups like this are challenging if you're someone who happens to appreciate one of the component genres way more than the other one. It's me. I like funk, but apparently I'm too white to even have a soul and all the smoothness just leaves me feeling flat and bored. "Visions" is the one track that I just could not handle. Too slow too smooth not enough dopamine inside my head. Stevie Wonder is definitely an incredible talent, but that one track. Man. If you need to make me go away from somewhere, start playing "Visions" and that should do the trick. Overall, decent experience... am I going to listen again? No. But I have listened once before I die, that's good enough.

So many Stevie Wonder albums on this list and I am starting to understand. This album just feels so rich and full, the second song on the album was fantastic. Great singing, feeling, instrumentation.

Great album, prefer SitKoL

i rlly liked it from the start. a groovy sound was exactly what i need to start this and the vocals were incredible

Not the first time i have listened to this album, already kind of formed an opinion on it. Imo, first track is a bit hard to get into but as soon as you get to visions it is just hit after hit. Lush, bouncy, smooth sound. Great album, good candidate for a 4.5 stars if i could! But have to give it the 4 unfortunately, as it isnt quite in 5/5 territory - very close though!

A classic.

Such a good funk album

There are some amazing hits on this album. Like all Stevie Wonder (for me), there’s always something shading slightly (or heavily, depending) into that terrible swamp of “adult contemporary,” but overall, one of my favorite of his albums.

Insane vocals Good album 7/10

Good but not enough to convert me to a dedicated follower.

Oh man… why didn’t anyone tell me that “Living For the City” was such a banger? (Okay, I might not have listened…) And the chord progression and piano melody lines in “Misstra Know It All” are amazing. I already knew how good “Higher Ground” was, but I definitely didn’t know that was not the best song on the album.

Good album. I had never heard most of these songs before, I thought higher ground was a rhcp song before today. I liked this album though and it's pretty impressive for a blind guy. I liked the smooth transitions between songs.

4/5. “All in Love is Fair” is especially beautiful. Good album.

I'm absolutely shocked, i enjoyed this.

The funky uptempo songs (especially Higher Ground and Living for the City) on this album are so good. The ballads (Golden Lady, All in Love is Fair) are very saccharine. Overall four stars on the strengths of the great tracks but the dour songs will stop me from giving it a full relisten.

**** 1/2 Great

Could vibe out to this anytime.

Some gems in here, one of a kind singer. Living in the city is ahead of its time for rap hip hop artists that have conversations and skits embedded in their music.

Pure Stevie Wonder greatness. Not a bad song on it

Standouts Living For the City Higher Ground Don't You Worry 'Bout a Thing

Similar sort of comments to those for Talking Book. Even more bangers (you forget how many there were on this album) and his voice is in brilliant form. Really like it.

Hemmer do es Drogealbom? Wahrschiindlech scho. Es tönt ned nome no hüüfig e so, s erschte lied heisst sogar "Too High", wobi s high of es Drogehigh meint. Esch no loschtig wieni söscht eigentlech Gwössi Dissonanze ned bsonders gärn ha, die us dem Albom bsonders i Songs wie too high oder Visions eigentlech no rächt passend send. Do schafft ärs de song langsam us em Chaos vo "Living for the City" ufzbaue, sodass mer sech diräkt of de Song freut. Au geil esch Higher Ground. met em Thema emmer wiiterzmache esches plötzech extrem funky ond erenneret rächt a superstition. Ergendwie schiint aber so musig näbe dene zwöi stöck ned gross t exestiere. Frog mech ned wieso. Ond schlossändlech gäge ändi vom Albom don't you worry about a thin. Hauptsach brengt das i den Song öppis schön abwächligsriichs, ohni grad i dissonanze dör t Sueichi noch neue Akkörtd z versenke. Au no z erwähne esch vermuetlech "He's Misstra Know-It-All" wo eigentlech ned bsonders usestecht (velecht wäg Mangel a dissonanze?). Öppis anders wo mer au ufgfalle esch, send sini gprochnige Samples. I living for the city chond zmetzg drenne e chorzi gschecht vo eim wo offebar neu z new york esch, dete vo öpperem en Uftrag för 5 Dollar öberchond, plötzlech verhaftet werd ond 10 Johr is Gfängis chond. Debi werd klar, dass är zemlech secher donkelhüütig ge esch. Einersiits de typischi akkzänt vo de schwarze Community z New York, anderersiits wäge "[...], get in that cell, nigger". Das schiint e rächt klaari politischi Message gäge rassismus z si. Schlossändlech mues mer säge, dass t Songs, zom teil zomendest, huere clean inenand inelaufed. No e chliine Funfact zom schloss: De stevie hed eifach fascht alli instromänt sälber gspelt. Einersiits esches krass dass är so vel instromänt so guet cha Spele, anderersiits erklärts au, wieso do t zämearbet zwösche de verschednige Instromänt so guet fonktioniert.

So much fun synthy stuff on this

This was a really good album. Not my favorite Stevie Wonder so it shouldn't be 5. (?) Some good tracks

Imagine releasing 15 albums and having enough left in the tank to drop this.

Little Stevie grows up. Decent.

Fun and funky. 4/5

Stylish, bouncy and at times iconic. Easy listening for any activity.

Stevie being Stevie. I wasn't that familiar with this specific album from start to end but after listening and reading a bit more, I was able to appreciate the depth of the content along with the innovative production and use of synthesisers for the time which eventually became a staple of the contemporary R&B/Soul sound. I liked the more socially conscious tracks on the record. Too High & Living for the city.

Stevie doesn't disappoint. Standouts were Living For The City and Higher Ground. 3.5/5. Raising to 4.

Opener 'Too High' perfectly blends funk, soul and pop. 'Living For The City' is my second favourite track of Stevie's. The opening instruments make it sound pretty ominous. It's a story of a young Black man who moves to New York City seeking opportunity but encounters racism and injustice. The lyrics are intense and the song itself is an absolute banger. The vocal melody is phenomenal and catchy as hell. 'Higher Ground' is ridiculously funky, and again, ridiculously catchy. (Admittedly, I prefer the heavier and faster Red Hot Chili Peppers version). 'He's Misstra Know-It-All' is a cool chill pop track. The bass line in 'Jesus Children Of America' is an infectious funky groove and the second half of the track takes this from a decent track to a great one. Stevie and the backing singers start the vocal runs and letting loose on the track. 'All In Love Is Fair' is a great ballad and Stevie sounds really good. There's a couple of not so good tracks here, but this is filled with great bass lines, great vocals and great hooks.

Nostalgic

One of the great artists, Stevie Wonder always reminds me of staying with my aunt and cousin in the 70's. Music was a big part of it and this was part of the soundtrack. Don't worry about a thing is one of the best songs written. Over all a groovy album.

Really bright r&b sound. Beautiful voice.

For an album and artist describe as soul there’s much more going on here. There’s synth experimentation, touches of rock, jazz and funk all fused together on this LP. Rightfully seen as one of his best albums

Muy bueno, como varios en esta época.

Similar Stevie formula of magic mixed with schmaltz

Stevie great

# Album Name: Innervisions # Artist: Stevie Wonder # Rating: 4/5 # Comments: Honestly, 80% of this album is midrange. Just OK. The three top tier tunes nudge it to a 4 because they are crackers. Without these, the album would be bang average. # Top Tunes: Dont you worry about a thing / h8gher ground / living for the city # Would I listen to it again? Only the three songs

I like when suddenly there is like monologue in music. Art knows no bounds!

Atta boy Stevie

Prime Stevie Wonder, I was impressed by how well the album flowed despite all the various styles from song to song. Higher Ground and Living For The City are obvious highlights but I also really enjoyed Golden Lady and All In Love Is Fair. Stevie's vocal range is really impressive and display throughout.

Classic Stevie, the first of his Grammy-winning albums.

"Too High" and "Visions" are nice songs. They are both very slow crooning songs. I'm pretty unfamiliar with Stevie's massive body of work, but I was expecting more big-band funk/jazz type music. "Higher Ground" is one funky ass song. This is my favorite song so far. "Jesus Children of America" is a good song too. The album has picked up a little now. "Don't You Worry 'Bout A Thing" also slaps. This album had its good and great moments, and a few others that were good but not quite my cup of tea. I enjoyed the funkier upbeat tracks more than the slow singer-songwriter type tracks. 7/10

kind of giving fiesta salsa on don’t you worry about a thing

He's pretty great. But I feel like he has some better stuff out there to really push the 5 stars.

I enjoyed it as a change of pace. There were some songs that just weren’t for me but I really got into others, especially “Living For The City”

Loving the crunchy harmonies and chromatic lines in Too High. I loved the driving synth lines in Jesus Children of America. This is a really solid album from front to back, something about Stevie's vocals bugs me a little, but it's nothing technical. I feel like I over listened to a Stevie Wonder song in an elementary school music class and I've carried that with me ever since, lol. Still though, it's in there.

Really enjoyed this album. Also super impressive he played almost every single instrument on it. Highlights: Living for the City, Higher Ground

Dad- 8 Mom- 9 Mike- 7.5 Lori- 8.5 Michael- 9 Miles- NA Cole- NA Avg- 8.4

Mostly liked the songs I already knew, but was surprised at how good the rest were too

Pretty good overall. in the city and higher ground the best ones.

A few slightly aimless, noodly moments but 70s Stevie Wonder was on another level to most of the rest of humanity at the time

Maybe listening to this on spotify was a mistake - it felt flat until Living For The City, which is a track I know and like anyway, but even then it's got this skit in the middle which kills the momentum in a classic song. Then we get Golden Woman, which is fine, and Higher Ground which is another classic. So we have this big songs but the album never really gets going. Kind of a wasted opportunity because the big songs really are so big. I feel like there's a 5 star album here, but instead it's a 4 because I think there's a prominent lack of editing. It feels disrespectful, but it also feels correct. Maybe a victim of being released during his absolutely prodigious output in the early 70s.

muy guapo tu

Very funky from Stevie! A good listen, particularly picks up in the B side. Would definitely listen again.

Didn’t get through it but it’s Innervisions so

i entered this blindly. when i saw the top descriptor for the album on rym is "political", i took off my glasses and rubbed my eyes, and stared at the screen blankly and soon tried to make sure that i see it correctly. and i think i forget to mention that i have moderate short-sightedness. anyway three minutes later i was vibing and all my hate toward soul music disappeared. 4/5

Stevie at his best and most political.

Very good

bacano

7,5/10

Stevie Wonder's discography is robust, I haven't spent nearly as much time on it as I should have, this record is awesome. Living for the City is an all timer.

Great 70's funk album. A few songs aren't good enough for 6 starts though.

Soulful and laid back

Great album of easy listening here.

Great classic album.I was less familiar with it than some of his others but it is definitely a must listen

Solid album, got to add this one to my collection

i quite likeed this album, especially the cover of higher ground.

This was a nailed on 5 in the first half, Higher Ground is so so good. Too High and Living for the city if not listened to before, also highlights. Just felt the last few songs were a bit uninteresting, but still a mega album

Easy listen, higher ground is a banger

Funky!

Living for the City and Higher Ground are fantastic.

I actually really like this. I've heard Stevie Wonder here and there, but never really explored his discography. This album is so chill and makes for great listening while focusing. Almost like a lofi playlist. Gives Persona 5 vibes. (or Persona 5 give Stevie Wonder vibes) First three songs are really strong for me. Golden Lady doesn't quite meet what I'm looking for, but then of course Higher Ground comes in to pick things back up.

This is a great album. I recognized most of these songs without ever having listened to this album.

While not my favorite, this is definitely in my top 3 Stevie Wonder albums.

It's not Songs In the Key of Life - but that's probably an unfair comparison. This is a solid album from one of the greatest of all time.

Slow, on tempo w/ good vocals. Living for the city is the best. 3.8/5 (7.6/10)

Maestro

My backwards journey through Stevie continues. Another great album, although I actually slightly prefer Fulfillingness' First Finale.

Living For The City // Higher Ground //

It's weird, I think this is a better album than Talking Book, but Talking Book (If I remember right) was more listenable? Generally Innervisions sits in a very vibey space, whereas Talking Book has more bangers. Higher Ground and Don't You Worry 'Bout A Thing being the exceptions on Innervisions. Those are bop. Either way, gets a 4 same as Talking Book for me.

Omissa asteikoissa asetan wonderin sinne legendojen laariin, kuten Elton John. En silti ole kuluttanut artistia kovinkaan paljon. Tämän levyn jälkeen piti kuunnella samantien pari lättyä lisää. Onhan tämä hienoa musisointia.

Outside of Higher Ground, Innervisions was not an album I was familiar with. I really liked this though - a perfect blend of jazz stylings and Motown soul.

A breeze to listen through. A bunch of classics. Albeit over saturated, still great songs. A real solid listen! Closer "Misstra know-it-all" is fantastic.

Some cracking tunes, but not quite as good as the musicquarium

Chill (apart from Living For The City), warm, but probably not something I'd listen to every day.

This album is really impressive. I love the more funky elements and the musicianship is outstanding.

Discovered and loooooved Visions and Don't You Worry 'Bout A Thing!

This was a great listen, I’ve never taken an opportunity to listen to a Stevie Wonder album and I was pleasantly surprised at just how many of the songs I liked.

Loved this album. The range between styles was incredible, yet the album still felt cohesive and told a story. The production was very simple and very refreshing to hear.

Początkowe nuty i końcowe na plus. Środek jednak taki jakiś średni i łatwo zapominalny.

Another enjoyable album from Stevie Wonder that was new to me. Tons of different tempos and melodies.

Good stuff. Somehow I did not realize that “Higher Ground” by RHCP was actually a cover of Stevie.

Musical genius opening up for a warm embrace. The opener sets a thoughtful yet groovy tone and it just gets deeper and more expansive. Not everything works, and Steve can land on sentimentality when overreaching, but the "serious" social criticism is knitted mostly neatly into the sweet and playful hooks.

Some Stevie bangers including “Living for the City,” “Higher Ground,” and “Don’t You Worry Bout A Thing”

I did not use a private session for this one. I have my own playlist of my Best of Stevie Wonder and of course some of the songs are on it. Its a good listen for some rhythmic funk.

The first Stevie Wonder album that I have ever listened to. The first song was very catchy and a good start for the album. I really liked the different kinds of instruments and sound effects, but some songs were forgettable. The singer is naturally unforgettable, and even some tears dropped because of his beautiful voice. Overall, a pretty impressive album.

Motown! Stevie Wonder is a gem!

first album from this site, and its a BANGER!!!! which i expected, its Stevie Wonder after all :p my fav song is def "all love is fair", but honestly its a really close tie between like all of them basically lol. except for "jesus children of america", but thats mainly cause i dont like the subject matter rather then the music itself being bad, cuz its NOT!!! great shit, love it!

I had more fun with this one

Een paar weken terug was ik nogal kritisch over Songs in the Key of Life. Living For the City vind ik waanzinnig goed. 8/10 Highlights Living for the City Higher Ground

Better than I expected going in, especially from a genre I haven’t listened to that much.

I guess this puts into perspective how good songs in the key of life is, as I’d probably say that both of those albums are better than this, not that this is bad BY ANY MEANS. Good for similar reasons, but there’s less synth stuff on here. Obviously an amazing singing with so much versatility. I like the acoustic guitar songs/parts. I feel like early Michael Jackson stuff was heavily inspired by this. Favourite songs: to high, visions, living for the city, golden lady, all love is fair, don’t you worry ‘bout a thing, he’s misstra know-it-all Overall around 8/10

Another great Stevie Wonder album. Familiar tracks and fresh sounds. I wonder if Jamiriquai has ever listened to this...

Damn I really wish I could give this a 5. Incredible album through the middle to the end, but the first couple of tracks just throw it down a peg for me personally. Excellent stuff here though. This is my first sit down with a full Stevie album and I’m excited to get to Songs in the Key of Life. He’s truly a master at work.

-another undisputed banger from Stevie Wonder. This one had a really beautiful and captivating quality that made it stand out to me more than Talking Book and Fulfilingness’ First Finale -this man was just unstoppable in the 70s. seriously incredible understanding of what makes music good. Higher Ground is a such a nostalgia trip for me too -Favorites are Visions, Living For The City, and Higher Ground

this was cool didn't finish it but shd listen it again

Favorites were "Too High", "Higher Ground", "He's Misstra Know-It-All"

Great album.

fun album with a lot of soul and emotion in it. beautiful album. - too high - living for the city - all in love is fair - he's misstra know-it-all

****A pleasant and easy listening album

I loved the synths and the melodies throughout this album, it felt easy to listen to and easy to understand and yet it had deep themes that were talked about, Stevie's vocals were perfect and I'm honestly amazed how much of a talented man he is.

Can we get some half star options on here, please?! What is it with apps and their aversion to half stars? Anyways, there were some good ones on here. Funky, but soothing. I'll give it a four (because...Stevie Wonder), but it's more of a 3.5 for me. Album Cover: 9/10 Top Songs: Living for the City All In Love is Fair Don't You Worry 'Bout a Thing He's Misstra Know-It-All

Very cool

i really enjoyed listening to this as a complete entity but i’m not sure that i connected with any one song in particular…but that’s OK!! it’s still really really solid. any song off this record could play at random and i wouldn’t be mad at all. fav tracks: higher ground

whoaaaa that was so good. i feel like you can hear in this album the transition from soul to contemporary r&b as he's often credited with. i don't love when he gets into his growl-y voice just because it is so jarring compared to how smooth his regular singing voice is, but other than that i really really enjoyed this.

Funky and clever from the start. Soulful and visionary (duh) with plenty of emotional range. Impeccable production. Favourite tracks: Visions, Living For The City, Higher Ground, He's Missta Know It All

This is one of Stevie Wonder's most consistently great records.

I like this some classics on there

I see where persona gets its good looks from. Fun album w some real juicy funk, shiny beats and great acoustic instrument mixing, shoutout to the shaker in Don't you worry about a thing. Nicely varied in tones.

Liked it. Mostly mellow.

What a great, quality, album. This is a mix of funk and soul, with some jazz elements here and there. Stevie's vocals are great, full of emotion and feel, and so are the lyrical messages. Every song sets an emotion and takes you on a ride, a smooth funky story about love, life, personal growth and struggles. The album is just so pleasant, down to earth, but yet so profound and with strong messages of love and peace. The music found just the right balance of being complex enough to be noticed and appreciated, but also not so complex to take the songs over completely. The focus mainly stays on Stevie and the lyrics. The piano is one of the stars, the chord progressions are full and interesting. The percussions and the rhythm section feel like they are one more step back, like being perfectly executed by great session musicians. All of this makes the album sound really polished, smooth and professional. This one goes to the list of favorites, looking forward to more from Stevie and the crew.

7/10…funk soul motown

So much fun. I will re listen to this many times

Wonderful album ayyyyyyyy

It was good, some songs were a bit long, but that' fine in this genre. I prefer the more up-tempo Stevie Wonder songs, and there were some on this album, but it was a bit dazed for me at times.

I’ve listened to a number of his records over this and other best of lists. This is the first time I’ve felt a connection to the music. Solid record.

o que stevie wonder mandava é loucura

gostosim hein stevie wonder no auge do funk/soul, bacaninha demais

This helped make a wreck of a day a little brighter. Soulful, sharp, and way ahead of its time. It’s like funk, jazz, and gospel all took turns driving, but the real star is the storytelling. There’s a weight to the lyrics, but the music keeps things bright. The grooves don’t miss, and the bounce is undeniable. Stevie Wonder is a legend. A true king. Album was beautiful & what you’d expect from him.

This is a vibe: chill, slightly depressed, and full of passion.

Excellent.

stevie wonder is pretty good

This came out in '73. Stevie was born in in 1950. By my math, he was 23 when this was released... Could you imagine creating something this good as such a young age? Well here's the thing- it was his SIXTEENTH album by that point. JFC... just... JFC.

One of the best zstevie recorded. 4.5 stars

4 stars for me on this one. Probably my favorite Stevie Wonder album.

4 maybe 5

Funk ones are amazing, but Stevie Wonder ballads are incredibly boring.

Awesome

Amazing times

Ten years since I first heard this, definitely have grown to enjoy it more and probably will continue to

Yes please. Funky and soulful - will listen to again & again!

This ended up being a really fun album to listen to. Not quite sure how many bands have made cover of these songs, but several for sure as I did not know they were covers at the time.

Funky and full of soul. A very charming album

Stevie knows how to sell a tune. All good songs, all elevated beyond belief by his perfect delivery

The mix of funk and pop generally works alongside stellar production. It’s easy to see why he is a legend.

A welcome reprieve from everything else we’ve been listening to. I needed some funk Higher Ground and Don’t You Worry ‘Bout A Thing are evergreen bops

His 3rd best imo, still sick doe

This was. fun. 4

Like a warm croissant with butter on it

Best one yet

Stevie’s that guy

Solid Listen. Album title is apt, with the exception of the back end of the record, Stevie’s genius is a lot for my ear (which is pretty good) for this to be an album to revisit very often. All the different aspects of the music are inspired and work very well alone, but when they all climax in the middle of the song, it gets too much and I become lost. 3.8/5

Great mix of soul and the heavenly voice of Stevie Wonder. Truly a standout and a great listen.

Stevie's singing on this is excellent and it comes across as though he doesn't have to try. Fine instruments all over it and the tracklist works to good effect. Living For The City is my favourite. It's about scraping by in a bustling city, drums come in full of purpose, outstanding vocal performance, some wild synth riffs bursting out of the mix. Full of surprises, the backing vocal comes in 3 minutes in, the end is uneasy and doesn't give a fuck about going on for ages. The only flop for me is He's Misstra Know It All, it has a lame quality to it, similar to Isn't She Lovely. I can't quite explain it, just find it a bit barf-o-rama.

One of the most chill albums.

Every song a bop. Never really have stevie wonder a chance before but I will now

Damn, not one bad song on this album, I'd like to relisten to this one

Beautiful!

bello mi è piaciuto

Stevie halt.

Stevie Wonder has a universal vision

A terrific album that I’d never heard. Living in the City was incredible.

großartiger musiker.

Very nice

Very good

I prefer Stevie to Bowie!

Pretty good. Definitely a foundational album, and I enjoyed it. Higher Ground is the stand out track for me.

Great album. No notes

Good album. Nice background for when I was making dinner- also higher ground is on this so that’s one of my favorite tracks he does

Almost perfect record

It's Stevie Wonder, so like.....

I already had “Living For The City”, “Higher Ground” and “Don’t You Worry About A Thing” on my phone. Never thought about selecting all the songs until hearing the album in its entirety. Besides the singles, I really enjoyed Stevie’s song about Richard Nixon, “He’s Misstra Know It All”. That song could about our new Commander-In-Chief. Not a bad album from start to finish.

Honestly, pretty incredible how musically dense this is while still being really easy to listen to. There's a lot going on, but it never really feels overwhelming. The synth work is pretty incredible, especially considering that it's a newer synth! It sounds like he's been playing it for a decade, at least. This is one of the first Stevie Wonder albums that's come up on this list for me that doesn't feel like it's a couple hits and a lot of fluff. Every song meaningfully contributes to the album, and it ends up being really freaking good. Favorite Song(s): Living in the City, Higher Ground, All in Love is Fair

Has some classics on it. I really enjoyed the instrumentation.

INNERVISIONS really does sound like the album that laid out the template for a big chunk of the modern R&B/Soul sound that would emerge over the next two decades. "Higher Ground" was already in my collection but I enjoyed being reminded about the funky hit "Living For the City" and being exposed to the drug recriminations of "Too High" as well as Wonder's attempt at the Santana-esque latin rock/boss nova with "Don't You Worry 'Bout a Thing".

Always gotta love Stevie. Good to listen to some that i'd passed over to skip to higher ground previously

Better than our other Stevie albums

The perfect blend of funk and soul. The beats are incredible and Stevie’s voice is one of a kind.

So soulful and patient.

It's great. Stevie Wonder's voice is amazing. Favs: Visions, All in Love is Fair, Don't You Worry 'Bout a Thing. Would definitely cue it when friends hang out!

This is a pretty great album. It's rooted in funk, but takes you many other places. I understand why people put it near the top of his albums. It's a hard album to deny.

Contrary to some corners of critical opinion, I don't think Wonder has ever produced an album that is untouchable from front to back. However - Innervisions is closest to the mark. At its best, it's so chewy, daubed in soul and funk pigments yet retaining a quality that feels unique to Stevie Wonder. What is it? That he doubtless knew how to perform almost every instrument on every track? Does this singular approach manifest itself on wax? Whatever the answer is, this album would be a five if every track was as strong as 'Higher Ground' - a song with bones so good, so indestructible that even the dog-ass Red Hot Chili Peppers can't fuck it up.

It’s Stevie Wonder

Justin A. For the city

very catchy and fun

Great production. Doesn’t overstay it’s welcome.

Funky groove to open, followed by a 60s spy song? Living For The City is good but the mid interupt will grow on me, already loved higher ground. Good sound overall, enjoyed it even though its not what I would normally pick. Nice and short, doesn't overstay itself.

Solid entry, but not quite as immersive as Key of Life

Good one

Okay to listen to, still a bit boring

It is a recognised album for a reason. A timeless contribution to music by an incredible artist. The album never falters and keeps you entertained throughout the listen

Would have been great in the mood but currently I am most definitely not. 7/10 based out of mood for normal day. 3/10 today. Sorry Stevie, I'll give it another shot when I'm in a better mental state.

Enjoyed this more than I expected to, but I'm still not a huge Stevie Wonder fan.

Excellent. Beautiful.

“Visions” est très smooth, “Living for the City” marche bien.

Thanks to this project I finally found a starting place with Wonder's discography, and I appreciate that. I've only heard his singles over the years, so I recognized 2 of these songs. This is the first album from the project I listened to again and saved to my collection. Every song on it is excellent. I'll have to dig through his other albums soon, and we'll see if my rating changes.

It's Stevie so it's funkyyyyy Highlights: Living For The City, Higher Ground

definitely enjoyed Insane that this was his 16th album and it’s this good

This album is extremely important and I can recognize how great it is, but didn’t quite catch my ear like a 5/5 album would, personally.

Not really a fan of the beats in the first song. Too much funk for my enjoyment, but the vocals are great. As for the rest of the album, it was beautifully soulful, lyrical, and melodious. Loved it. 4.5/5

Some of the songs on this album just lack a bit of energy but Stevie Wonder is a legend and Higher Ground and Living For The City are two all time classics.

It’s a really good album. “Higher Ground” is the one I know from the Chili Peppers.

Love me some Stevie. Good bops on here. Overall, album a little slow. Easy listening.

First Stevie wonder! Living for the city 🔥 One of my fav and most respected artists out there … def a project I will revisit over and over “Innervisions” by Stevie Wonder is an outstanding album that masterfully blends soul, funk, and R&B with innovative use of synthesizers and complex arrangements. Stevie’s expressive vocals and thought-provoking lyrics tackle significant social issues like racism, drug abuse, and urban struggles. Standout tracks like “Living for the City,” “Higher Ground,” and “Don’t You Worry ‘Bout a Thing” showcase his ability to craft songs that are both musically engaging and deeply meaningful. Overall, “Innervisions” offers a compelling and influential listening experience that highlights Stevie Wonder’s artistic genius and maturity.

Heeft zijn achternaam niet gestolen. Heerlijk album. Heerlijke grooves. Heerlijke basslines. 4.4

wonder, wonderboy! wonderful...yliarvostettu prouktio.. kuulostaa diungdiungdiung tyyliselstä.ur Billboard Top LPs & Tapes -listalla ja ykkönen Billboard Soul LPs -listalla ja sijoittui lopulta sijalle neljä lehden Top Pop Albums -listalla vuonna 1974. Se voitti 16. Grammy Awards -tilaisuudessa vuoden albumin ja Best Engineered Non -palkinnon. -Classical Recording, kun taas "Living for the City" voitti parhaan R&B-kappaleen. Sisäinen näkö on leveä. hulluja akolaadeja.. akrjalan kunkkuusaa kalvalan kantaa kuulee ja kuolaa kankansaa.. hiii huu hii huu. hiii huu hii huu. hiii huu hii huu. hiii huu hii huu. hiii huu hii huu. hiii huu hii huu. too high

So far, this is definitely my favorite Stevie Wonder album. The lyrics are very socially conscious, with strong political messages throughout. What really stood out to me was how Stevie Wonder played almost every instrument on the album. His production work was also pretty groundbreaking, with all the layering, multitracking, and other techniques he used. Overall, the sound is really polished and the album flows really well.

Takes a bit of time to really get going, but it has a good funky sound once it does. “Higher Ground” is an absolute banger, and in general side 2 is better than side 1. Some songs, especially the slower ones, sound dated. Not as good as Songs in the Key of Life, but still enjoyable.

Stellar album. A little self-indulgent at times; I prefer when Stevie is lost in a groove more than when he's doing vocal runs. Fav Track: Golden Lady

Stevie Wonder always makes me smile.

i was a little worried because the first track or two didn't really click for me, but after that, this was a great album! funky and energetic. a lot to enjoy.

i really enjoyed this one! it's not my favorite of his but has some great tracks and good vibes. the opener, too high, sounds like a cross between afrojack's lyrics and bill wurtz's music, but the album gets a bit more normal from there while still keeping the funky, jazzy sound throughout. favorites: visions, living for the city, higher ground, all in love is fair, don't you worry 'bout a thing

p304. 1973. 4 stars. Now we're talking. Stevie's best album, packed with great tunes and sharp lyrics, and it doesn't outstay its welcome. 1 point docked for the dated synths and occasional lapse into 70s wankage on a couple of tracks.

Not really my jam, but a pretty good album nonetheless. Really funky, with touches of soul. It's well balanced between chill titles and more entertaining ones. Living for the City is the highlight of this album.

fnunky

One of the best of all time

Great Work by Mr.Wonder

This is a great Stevie Wonder album and a great reference for the new soul music of the time.
