Reviews (page 13 of 13)
gentle bucolic and lilting; nice work listen but don't think I'll revisit
I am sorry but what is this? Like is this supposed to be good? Again, purely drug addict music.
Folk is not for me. One track was interesting, rest was boring
Day10 - i don’t know if this is an album i needed to hear before i die but it was ok
Got bored after a few songs
2.0
i am at the point where I can tell the album is a boring shitty folk singer-songwriter waste of time just by cover and name now. although, this one wasnt as bad as the others a very useful skill for the future, im certain Significant 34/101 (for previous one - the police) Liked 16/101 Added 4/101 NNN
Not a fan.
The guitar work was really good but I wasn't a big fan of the singing. It was pretty slow moving overall. Probably would never listen to album ever again but it was a nice learning experience. Kind of like a folky jazz. Definitely some jazz chords in there. I could imagine Jose Gonzalez singing all the songs and it being a lot better of an album.
Too folk for me.
Boring
The most boring album I have ever heard for a while. Which is a shame considering how much I enjoyed his other albums despite disliking folk.
OK, the guy has the voice for this kind of music, but this kind of music is not something I enjoy. I know my son really likes this guy ad I keep trying, but I just feel I'm hearing the same thing over and over. A little too slow and pretty boring for me, but I do get how some folks are a fan. Not this listener, but not hell on my ears. 2
Apparently kicked off melancholy folk but I didn’t really like it. I got one “aha! So this is why people like him!” Moment but it faded cuz I just got tired of listening to him too much. Maybe in lesser doses he’d be good
Good acoustic guitar songs and lyrics
Easier on the ears than Bob Dylan.
Day is done is amazing. Rest of album ehh
too slow for me.
A few decent tracks but not my favorite album by Drake
Pretty but thought I'd like it more, didn't standout
Not a big fan
Would I listen to this album again? No. First time hearing the full album? Yes. Were there any songs I skipped? No Comments? The instrumentals were nice, but overall very tame and boring album. Favourite Songs? 'Cello Song
Folky background music. Fine I guess, but can't see me listening again,
Good songs but a bit too depressing to listen to the whole thing
Gikk meg hus forbi
Its okay guess
More than that in my yard right now.
Proper '60's folk music. Nothing special but it wasn't offensive.
Had never heard of Nick Drake prior to this. The album has some nice fingerpicking as well as utilizes some of the string section and cool percussion instrument which gives it a very different vibe from what you see in most music today. Wasn’t a super big fan of how breathy he sings though. He also structured a lot of the songs weirdly which made them feel really long even when there weren’t and not in a good way. Not sure this was a must listen. Does seem like some of the songs would fit really well in a Autumn indie movie though. 2/5
Previous one liked a lot better
Me gustaron mucho las guitarras y la voz el disco es lo que promete desde el principio, intimidad y relax mientras un ingles te canta al oido, pero no deja de ser aburrido de escuchar activamente. [Notas post investigacion]: El cantante tiene una historia interesante
Blah
Did not really like it
I found this quite boring and un-inspirational.
Not for me
Boring and same-y. I tried to write anything else, but I could not
Not bad musically, just not my style Whimsical, melodic, reminds me of the holidays
I can hear the influence this album had on artists that came after Drake, but this won’t be one I’ll be listening again.
Too slow for my taste. He has a beautiful voice though.
Folk music, most if not all songs sound the same. Meh
Solide, un peu daté mais efficace !
left very little impression on me
Too depressing for me, but I thought it was good quality.
Pleasant, but not really my kind of music. I do appreciate the strings though.
I felt like a lot of his songs sounded the same, either with a riverboat jaunty feel or an Evangeline feel. Favorite song was definitely Day is Done
Self-important 60s folk. Nothing special. 2/5
Zzz...zzz...
Folk. 60s folk.
not a huge fan of folk so eh
2/5 Best: Day Is Done Worst: Man in a Shed
Fine but forgettable
Lovely vocals but boring AF
Another depressed singer-songwriter singing sad songs.
Smooth and easy listening. I can see the appeal but not sure this one was for me.
Maudlin. Not in a good way. And a bit one-dimensional.
Pleasant enough but fairly boring after a while.
Since I like some of his tracks I’ve tried before to get into Nick Drake. Just like the last time I tried I just get too bored. It’s the same with modern acts in a similar vein such as Jose Gonzales. Nice guitar picking never did anything for me on its own. The orchestration doesn’t add anything for me but annoyance. Saturday sun I knew from before and like, but the rest of the tracks won’t enter any playlist.
Nice use of various instruments, nice background music but not something I could listen to much of for an extended period of time
Guess you either love or hate him
Meh
Chill Afternoon record
Not my jam. Cello Song and Saturday Sun were fine songs but Thoughts of Mary Jane was absolutely dreadful.
no more for me thanks. not as bad as k.d. lang, though
Very understated folk and singer songwriter album with some strings and other elements to add a sometimes relaxing, sometimes haunting atmosphere. I honestly think this album is extremely overrated. His voice is just ok, and the songs just kind of meander along. I can see it being decent background music and people like the lyrics but it’s not for me.
Not really for me
Prett Boring
eh lyrics are more like talking and im not that much of a fan of that
Five Leaves Left is the debut album by English folk musician Nick Drake. This melancholy folk album was almost ignored by critics at release, but has since been lauded as an excellent showcase of Nick Drake's interesting musical direction and beautifully monotone lyrics - perhaps his best album. I was not impressed by this album - although it did fit the mood of my grey Monday morning well - so I rate it as an average album. If soft, gentle, melodic music - or folk music - is your thing as a listener, then this is the album for you.
Tunnelmointilevynä oilein kiva, meni kyllä sen verran ohi kuunnellessa, että pelottaa, onko vähän tyhjä. Oletettavasti ei kuitenkaan.
Uneventful acoustic 70's rock with a bluesy jazzy edge.
Eh, I never really got into Nick Drake. Not for me, but I can acknowledge that it's done well, though.
Quiet, a bit muffled vocally, pretty in a very low key and laid back style, but bordering on boring. I prefer the fuller jazzier sound of the 2nd LP, Bryter Layter.
Harmless but uninspiring. His voice is unexceptional, and the acoustic guitar is well played but with little emotion - it all feels so very technically correct and emotionally empty.
Nope.
Folk lentorro. Rollo. Un 2.
I cannot remember any song. It’s a bank holiday weekend and the MW2 beta came out, so cut me some slack.
Um, yeah. This is definitely a record.
Meh on this one
Awful
It was ok, didn't hate it but nothing grabbed me.
Meh 2
Nice enough, not my type of music though and got bored quickly.
Disco como trova en inglés. Algunas suenan jazzeadas, la música está bien. Las letras no me atraparon y en general se me hizo muy equis. 2.5 estrellas que bajan a 2 porque mañana no me voy a acordar de él.
4/10
Nope
Meini aika taustamusan puolelle. Ei jäänyt oikeen negatiivista tai positiivista sanottavaa. Vois koittaa myöhemmin joskus uudestaa
Did not stand out to me.
meh, the other one was better 2.5
I didn't like this as much as I thought I would, unfortunately. It was kind of boring.
Folk lentorro. Rollo. Un 2.
Not bad, was pleasant sounding but I wasn’t drawn in
Nice but boring
I can see the talent on display, but blimey it's boring.
One gets the feeling the curators of this list really, but really, love Nick Drake's music. This is the third album of his I'm getting, and as far as I know he had 3 albums released prior to his premature death. Anyway, as far as I'm concerned it's more or less the same as before: music that's OK for a quiet afternoon's background, but nothing that actually "lifts". If anything, I found this album more boring than its siblings.
It was ok, not my type of music. The way he sang was not my style. Short album, got bored halfway through
Found it kind of bland.
Ok
Nick Drake is kinda like Jeff Buckley - they're both unknown outside "big indie" circles but absolutely adored inside them, they both killed themselves in their 20s and they both bore the Christ out of me. 2/5.
more like five i leave and left the album alone
This was a bit of a snooze - I just don't really care for folk music like this. 4/10.
Late 80’s Emo music good. Late 60’s Emo music bad.
Not for me. It's not terrible it just reminds me of rainy Sundays in February. The musical equivalent of hearing the Antiques Roadshow theme tune signalling the end of the weekend and back to school tomorrow.
4/10, helt okej men verkligen en snarkfest. Musiken va fin, men hans röst är så enformig.
Please, no more sad lad music. I see all the other positive reviews and wish I liked this better to join the "Nick Drake" crowd, but it just doesn't work for me. His voice is just too monotone and its not only that I don't find it interesting, but it also has a negative droning effect on me.
Too easy listening for me, nothing for my ear to hook onto. Good background music
So very pretty, but so very dull
yawn. Give me more the Cello Song.
Lovely but forgettable.
41 minuuttia ja 11 sekuntia kestänyt slovari. Ei se nyt paskaa, mut tuskaista oli kokonaan kuunnella
This is not the Drake of Degrassi fame. I'm sure he gets that alot. Or maybe it goes the other way. Maybe Aubrey Graham wishes he didn't use his middle name as his stage name, because people keep thinking he's a British folk singer. But now he's stuck with it. It fits though. Nick Drake looks like a Nick Drake. Drake doesn't look like an Aubrey. I went back to find my review for "Pink Moon" to find out if I commented on Nick Drake's voice. I didn't. So that's a thing to focus on here. It's not an accent thing. I don't think. It's just the way Drake enunciates in his singing. Now I want to go find an interview with him to see if he talks at all like that. I like his voice. I just don't like the way he sings. Not all of the time, but enough to matter. In general, "Five Leaves Left" is also too slow and muted/quiet - at least for the mood I was in when I listened. A few tracks had a bit of a faster pace, but slow strings and even a flute somewhere killed it for me.
I'm honestly surprised how popular this is--it's not awful, but it really failed to capture my interest.
Not really my style, but it is calming and very smooth. 2/5
A few songs I didn't mind but not my style.
Nice music, interesting mix of folk-y indie-y music with interesting quartet (maybe) backing. Not really my cup of tea tho, saved one song.
Didn't grab my attention
Is ok 2.5
Lots of classical instruments. Bit Irish sound? Lyrics a bit sappy.
Ima boljih pjesama o MJ
A mix of Neil Young and Paul Simon. Poetic lyrics but ultimately depressing as shit!
This is good, I’d put it up there w/ Bryter Layter, though I kind of wish I could go back and give that a 4, b/c this is more deserving of the 3. As such, it’s getting a 2. Still very good though, I just like that his next two seemed more varied in their approach
That was so exciting I could barely contain myself! OK practicing my delivery of April Fools Day jokes. I'm sure there is something wonderful hidden behind the mysterious lyrics. It's just hidden a little too deep for me. If I can't find the lyrics I'm left with a boring album. Perhaps if I listened to this 500 times and figured it out, it would be my favourite album. Unfortunately I doubt I'll ever hear it 5 times let alone 500.
Got bored of this.
Sorry Nick, goede dingen over je gehoord maar ik vond dit toch wel iets te zoet
Objectively, nice. Subjectively, a total snooze-fest. Was literally yawning at points.
I've never got on with Nick Drake. Too droney.
Probably needs a second listen to judge. Day is done is a good track
Bit dull
Just a little too folky for me, doesn't seem that it's carried the test of time.
Gracias por participar
Not my style of folk rock
Some bit a goodness. His voice is nice to hear. I’m just not moved by it that much.
I like the guy's voice and the instrumentation, but this is not at all catchy
MEH. A lot of orchestration. Maybe this is what grandpa arsons sounds like? Didn’t make my way through
Starts off well(or more upbeat) but then tapers down to a slow melodic sound. His voice is low and the lyrics are kind of hidden below the instruments. Very similar to a Leonard Cohen sound. Not my thing but if your looking for some folky.
Not really my cup of tea and kinda depressing. Reading about his life made it even more depressing, but it is a good album sonically. Fruit tree was probly my fave
A bit too mellow for my taste
My mind always connects Nick Drake and Bob Ross for some reason. Both are calming, pleasant, and highly regarded by some following. But both I’m just kinda indifferent to
Unimpressed
Boring balade
i dont think this is bad, ive just never ever had a desire to listen to anything less. Ive heard a lot about Nick Drakes attributes as a artist included from well informed friends i trust. But for me as a listening experience this is so horrendously boring, its actually worse than some of the really bad things on this list, as it dosent even provide shock value.. I dont think ive ever been less inspired to put a record on, perhaps i am too young, or haven't listened hard enough. But for me i probably wont listen to any of this ever again.
Unlistenably twangy. It’s like the worst Bob Dylan song mixed with a James blunt song. awful. ⭐️
Didn’t expect to have this guy back so soon lol
Lost interest by the first song.
horrible
Didn’t like at all
this is so ass i'm so sorry
Meh
I keep thinking I made it through the worst of the "White Guy with an Acoustic Guitar" genre, but then another shows up and I keep getting disappointed.
todo guitarra lento. no cambia nunca el ritmo. zzzz
folk not for me
Too sad for me
not for me
Boring as hell
Well here’s Mr Sensitive. Again. The English Neil young? Folk’s Elvis Costello? Over rated under talented (not untalented). One album is enough. Given the lack of variety and the better players one album may be stretching it. We have people like Martin carthy John Renbourne, Davey Graham, Richard Thompson and we can stretch out to Jethro Tull. This is redundant. 2 stars with one taken off because I’m positive that were we not fetishising trauma and mental illness Nick would be playing small folk festivals to dwindling audiences.
Not for me
não me agrada.
tampoco
Nick Drake’s voice is really boring.
Didnt listen, hate everything folk
miserable dirge, every track sounded the same, whining self indulgent misery, well the 4 tracks I managed to bear.
Oh not this miserable git again. I'm on a run of duds at the moment, this one being the worst in 5 days. Was there really any need for 3 albums of his? Please say there's no more! This is only the second album of 357 that I've switched off.
Slaapverwekkend. Stem is steeds hetzelfde.
boring
Didnt like it, too acoustic for my taste
I understand it, but it’s not my cup of tea. Way too slow and rambling for me
not my type of music, too slow and calm
just no
42. alright
Not my cup of tea, was literally listening it as a background music, sorry :/
Tää oli aika mitään sanomaton levy. Liian rauhallista mun makuuni.
Made ma anxious even tho it’s supposed to be relaxing
After reading a little about this album I was interested in how this would play out unfortunately, there weren’t really any stand out moments and it was pretty boring. Sad story about the artist, though.
Boring
Dull
I’m trying to be less conservative with my one’s. This just did nothing for me but fade into the background and then come to an end.
Musikk som forutsetter en viss stemning for å kunne nytes. Forestiller meg at dette er flott i tiden når sola titter frem og snøen smelter. Dessverre en rimelig kjedelig opplevelse.
Everything kinda just sounds the same I’m sleepy
Very dreary. Not for me.
Snore fest
Oh hell no.
No ty
Pretty bland
Not my cup of tea, I'm not in the mood for a bloomy album today
Don’t need to listen to this again in my remaining years
Nah, bit slow, soppy & sad for me
F-
Dosta dosadno i naporno, pogotovo na ovako umorno jutro. 1/5, 1/10
I dont like his vocals and i find it a bit peculiar how his songs all kinda sound like he is telling a story instead of singing, i personally dont think his music is for me but i also dont know if i say it's "Bad Music" if you can call it that
Chato demais
Just not for me. Don’t like his voice. Lyrics are lame and trite. Basically didn’t like anything about this one.
British Bob Dylan
It’s a testament to how vapid this album is that I completely forgot I listened to it on Friday. I recall him having a nice voice, but not nice enough for me to revisit it.
Boried
Nick Drake's music is just too folksy, too monotonous and boring for me to sit back and enjoy and thereafter say, 'man that was good music'. If this was the only music available to me whilst marooned on a deserted island in the middle of nowhere, I'd have hung myself from a palm tree ages ago. Not my style at all.
Two Nick Drake Albums in three days!?! Murder me. This guy scuks; see below. 1
Not my vibe
Nope
1/5
Not the best album to begin the week
I need some drums.
no
This was awful. I listened to almost the whole thing but had to give up. Just some moaning that’s supposed to be singing. 1 star
Boring, just bog standard boring.
I’m sure there’s a market for this album. Maybe for people with insomnia. Very boring, not my cup of tea
Ник Дрэйк совсем не моё. Оооочень спокойно...
Not my kind of music
Boring
Not for me
No thanks.
I've never listened to Nick Drake before but I know some people love him. Unfortunately I'm not one of them. I gave up on this dreary rubbish after 4 tracks. 1 Star for his pleasant voice.
I'm not impressed. I get that he is a talented musician, but I don't get the point. I'm not turned on by any of it. It sounds like every other '60's era folk/pop. Nothing notable. My rating: 1/5
Unfortunately, this completely passed me by to the point where I could make no specific remarks of anything I liked or disliked. Just a neutral and uninteresting album overall, in my opinion.
Really boring
Na...
Man I was not vibing with it most of the time, nice voice though
Reminds me of Donovan. Real soft Nick.
Didn't even make me want to continue listening to it after 2 songs
not my genre, skimmed it; 0 rating
What I’m hearing is depressing hippie music so far. 3 songs in. Nice guitar playing. Not big on the voice. Good lyrical story telling. Way to Blue sort of shook this album from its monotone downfall but just musically. There’s still that one tone, weak note carrying vocal Is Nick Drake a poet turned singer? If not, he should have taken that route. That makes his lack of vocal range more acceptable. I don’t see the appeal with this. Maybe as an instrumental album it could have some standing with me. I’m sure this is a critically acclaimed album, hell, I recognize the album cover. It’s just not ear hole pleasing for me. Choice cut: Day is Done
Albumet är som så många konstverk i kommunhus. Då beskedlig och timid att den inte lämnar något intryck alls.
Meh
V boring
60’s
This is just boring sleep inducing music. Just lacking in personality. The UK really thinks they're musicians are way better than they actually are.
So boring
Not my cup of tea.
Previously rated: Bryter Layter (2/5) ********************** I just heard my first Nick Drake two days ago. It was not quite a 3. Let's see if he has grown on me in that time. No, no he hasn't. This album has less of everything except his annoying singing and his admittedly good acoustic guitar playing. Less orchestration, less jazzy stuff. The only song I thought was even decent was the last track, Saturday Sun.
I knew I hated this the moment the first track started
Folk No! Such 60’s era nonsense. Pretentious, acid fueled sleep sounds. Hangman missed the mark here.
I knew I would hate this from looking at the album cover.
- I’m really not a fan of his voice -I physically cannot listen to this whole album I am so so sorry
fuck me this is dull
Did not care for it
Didn’t really listen to this properly but I mostly hated what I heard of it.
Boring 60s folk
Uninspiring.
What is it that I'm missing about this guy? Why do people like him, why are there so many of his albums on this list?
- I can see the vibe, but it isn't for me
They're ok
Too slow
definitely not for me
I feel like I would like this album if I heard it at a different time of my life. Maybe it is because I read about his life, or I am in a weird place, but I can't stand this music. I barely made it through the album. Right now it is just super depressing. Not sad in a nice way, just straight up makes me feel depressed.
Three fucking albums of this guy in the list? get out of here
This one really did not connect with me at all. I know Five Leaves Left is widely regarded as a beautifully delicate folk record, but I found it slow and difficult to engage with. The stripped back arrangements and hushed tone never really build into anything, and I struggled to stay invested. Nick Drake’s voice, which many people find intimate and haunting, just does not work for me. It feels too subdued and never quite lifts the songs. As a full album, it drifts rather than grabs. I can appreciate the craft and the influence it has had over the years, but as a listening experience it left me cold. Favourite song: I genuinely could not pick one Least favourite: The overall sound just did not land for me Album artwork: Understated and moody, but not something that stands out for me
cheer up lad
This all sounds very serious, and frankly a bit self-indulgent. Got a bit monotonous after a while too. There's only so much one bloke and a guitar can do (unless you're Hendrix). The lyrics didn't really grab me, and without that, there wasn't much here for me.
💤💤💤💤
Not my thing
Wenig interessanter Folk Pop.
boring ass album
Boring, generic folk with a hint of blues. Doesn’t have much to say.
If pretentiousness made an album, it would sound a lot like this.
Folk music just isn’t my jam apparently
ugh
Nope. Way too nerd folk
There is something almost mystical about the ability of northern Atlantic folk singers of the sixties to distract audiences so completely with pretentious poetry that no one seemed to notice how utterly uninteresting the music was. It is no small feat to make an entire album of music devoid of energy and excitement. Is unadulterated earnestness enough to make music interesting? No. It is not.
Ballades tranquilles, un peu trop à mon goût même. Musique de sieste.
Definitely the iconic 60's sound; nothing unique or engaging for me.
Flat. Forget now.
thanks I hate it
Boring
OMG so boring I had to stop
Smooth laid back folk
My Top Songs: Saturday Sun If the whole album was like the last song would have been a much better vibe, album wanted to make me sleep and not in a good way. Was made in 1969 so what can you expect. :)
Dull and one note.
Some people just like plain vanilla ice cream with no toppings. That's fine...you do you. But it's nothing to get excited about in the least. This album was the equivalent.
Meh
too sad for me at this time
-"Someday our ocean will find its shore". La canción "Day is gone" tiene un aire melancólico que me gusta. "Man in a shed" habla de un hombre que vive en un cobertizo y de una mujer que lo hacía sentir de todo, pero que vivía en un gran casa. La frase "Please don't think I'm not your sort, You'll find that sheds are nicer than you thought" me encantó. La canción "Fruit tree" nos cuenta lo que es la fama y de una vida que se cosecha como tal.
No
Boring
Tulee mieleen lähibaarissa soittava "taiteilija", jonka keikasta yleisö tuntuu olevan ihan fiiliksissä, samalla kun itse saa kokea kaikki ylemmyydentuntoisen halveksunnan ja vihan tuomat nautinnot.
This was extremely boring!
This album was not for me. As I listened to it no as I type, I feel like I’m going to drop into a coma. It’s just one full song. I can honestly feel my eyes getting heavy, I think I am going to ksksskxjxnjxnxnxnzjzmzmkxkxkxjxnxjxjj n n n nxbxjskakzkzkkxkzkxhcnxjxnxnzjzjjzjxjx
Not good
ughhhhh i did not enjoy a single second of this album, i understand that there are different music styles but this is so slow and quiet and sad and boring i’m sorry.
The first return of the Nick Drake. It’s literally the same album as the last this guys ass
Nä bu. Tråkigt.
Zzzzzzz....... *
:/
boring af
Album sucked dick
Nop, para nada es mi estilo.
Rubbish
Sucked. I'm sorry nick drake died young, but he said "time has told me" forty times in that first song and I not only disliked it, but I began to feel a rage growing deep inside. Had to turn it off or I might have gotten violent.
Not really my style of music but I’m optimistic
I know this is a good album. It being on this list supports that, but I did not care for it. Too bad he dies so young.
Didn’t like this one
Sad and boring
Pas réussi à dépasser la 3e chanson
1969 Love the album art lol RIP Nick Drake Top 3 tracks: 1. Fruit Tree - nice sounds all around :) 2. River Man - highlights: lyrics, soft melody 3. Way to Blue - string accompaniment, bridge
