listened to again one of the greatest records of all time

Fantastic album. Even if my most frequent way of listening to music might be to stream it on Spotify and even to play songs on shuffle, I could not think to do so with this record. It works the best when listened to from beginning to end without any interruptions so that you can get completely lost in it. Because of that, it's hard to single out my favourite songs from the album. If I had to, I think The National Anthem, How To Disappear Completely, Idioteque, and Motion Picture Soundtrack stand out to me the most.

Hell yeah

the best one and only one that should be on the list

Great music.

Classic.

Kid A was my first Radiohead album to be released after I became a fan. I'd got in to them through OK Computer singles, nought the album but found it a bit difficult. Going backwards to The Bends and Pablo Honey helped and very soon a was digesting b-sides, live tracks of unreleased songs and anything else I could get my hands on. The wait for Kid A seemed massive (little did we know what what happen after In Rainbows - 2 albums in 15 years!) and finally we got news Kid A was coming out (with an sister album to be released the following year). The Hype was insane - this was the album that almost broke them following OK Computer and its surprise success that launched them in to worldwide acclaim. They started touring well before the album came out - in a big top no less, avoiding all corporate sponsored venues and playing a hefty chunk of new songs slated for Kid A and its follow up. They seemed stranger than previous material - sometimes they didn't even have all members playing. Release date approached - the whole thing had leaked on the net early but not many had access at this point and downloading 128 kbps MP3s was a time consuming project. I heard the album in chunks on radio 1 - I taped every song and then dubbed on to a different cassette to put them in the right order, so I dread to think what the quality would have been! To me, these seemed strange but an appropriate response to OK Computer. Warm rhodes piano, jazz drums, crazy horn sections - I loved it! It was far from a retread of previous material and was a logical progression, seeing as Thom Yorke had widened his musical horizons with a lot of electronica after becoming tired of guitar music. Many hated it - it didn't rock so it was a fond farewell to that crowd. I thought maybe they didn't actually like Radiohead - they just liked rock. I liked Radiohead and I loved this. Everything in its Right Place is both eerie and soothing. Kid A like a child's story. The National Anthem was hilarious - I requested this be played at an Indie night once, went down so badly but my friends and I laughed as the horns played. How to Disappear is beautiful and classic Radiohead - with tweaks, it could fit on previous albums. Treefingers was out there - 4 minutes of ambience. Was it a song? Was it a palette cleanser? Why was this on the album when we'd heard there were loads of more 'traditional' songs like Knives Out and Pyramid Song left off? The answer is that it was part of the journey. Optimistic was the closest to a Radiohead rock song - but then it had a hip hop/jazz outro and led directly in to In Limbo, an off-kilter song that seemed to mirror the band's confusion during the writing sessions. Then came a clubby banger out of leftfield - Idioteque was again unlike anything from before and it was all the better for it. Thom ranting about ice ages over a beat and synth sample was the song we didn't know we needed. Morning Bell sounded numb and defeated, threatening to break in to emotion but always stepping back before losing control. Then suddenly it 's the end - Motion Picture Soundtrack had been played acoustically a few times and sounded like a beautiful ballad. This version was nothing like that - a church organ, mermaids and harps sound tracked a truncated version and Thom told us he'd see us in the next life. The recent Ok Computer and Kid A anniversary re-releases shed more light on some of these songs with early versions, sketches etc but when Kid A came out, it was in a vacuum. It turned many off, but people with open minds got it straight away and were happy to join Radiohead for what would be a extremely satisfying journey and progression. It's combination of fin de siècle fear and embracing of new technology meant it set a template for the new millennium and enabled the band to continue without repeating past glories. They could do anything now.

Team Kid A forever (OK Computer stans can blow me btw). This record is paranoia, isolation and loneliness made into music and I love it. First Listen?: N Fav. Tracks: Everything in Its Right Place, How to Disappear Completely, Optimistic, Idioteque Rating: 5/5

Already listened to this, but heck I’ll do it again.

Siempre se vuelve al primer amor

Great album. I hadn't listened to a lot of songs by Radiohead other than the popular ones so was surprised

sublimely weird. i loved it

Love Radiohead, I really got into them over lockdown. But I still believe they are a band to enjoy by yourself, anyone sticking Radiohead on at a party should be immediately removed. This is one of those Legendary albums, The example of a band taking an artistic risk, changing its sound ad reinvesting itself. Took me a while and some effort to get into this and I used to always prefer OK Computer, but in recent years I appreciate this album so much more now. I would rank this on a par now with OK Computer, two absolute masterpieces.

Amazing album by Radiohead. I love this one and as time goes on and I continue listening to this one I like it more and more. Still just my 3rd favorite album of theirs too. This one is very unique between the instrumentals and the beats. Yorkes voice is always interesting but the lyrics on this one are a bit different compared to their past albums. Kid A really took Radiohead and put them ahead of everyone else. 9.3/10

Yesterday I woke up sucking on a lemon, standing in the shadows at the end of my bed. Everyone is so near, I'm not here. I'd really like to help you man, I'm on your side. We're not scaremongering, this is really happening. I wanted to tell you but you never listen, so I'll keep walking. I will see you in the next life.

Radiohead in 2000: "Ice Age coming, Ice Age coming" The year 2002: A movie titled Ice Age comes out. How did they know? 5/5. The music was good as well.

Quel renouveau. Il a inspiré tellement de groupes.

Classic, experimenting with their songs. Really to only weak track in treefingers, but its mainly just a palate cleanser. Everything in its right place, idioteque, etc. 2nd fave RH album. Would by used for $15

The ultimate doomer album. I’m amazed by how ahead of it’s time this album was; it’s as relevant and fresh now as it was 20 years ago.

I have loved this album for years. Gladly take it over OK Computer any day of the week. It still feels fresh every time I listen to it.

Wow! Love this album. This is the one Thom Yorke had writers block and gained inspiration from Aphex Twin and you can hear Richard D. James' fingerprints all over this. Truly inspired stuff and quite possibly Radiohead's best work. I found it strange that this is the one that broke them in America as it is one of their most experimental albums.

Love Radiohead. I haven’t listened to this one much before, but I enjoyed it.

virgin, radiohead kinda missed wwiththat one lool

I see a lot of people say this is hard to listen to but this is pure experimental bliss with instrumentation that feels like I’m travelling with eerie sense of calm and tranquility. I absolutely adore the opener is it the main track that encapsulates that feeling for me, A lot of the lyrics seem forced and potentially edgy for edgy purposes, however a lot of them conjure evocative emotions which in essence is what lyrics are supposed to do. I understand now why this is the best album of the 2000s for many, ide give it a 9.5 out of 10 or higher depending on my mood.

This is a fantastic album. I didn't really take to it at first, it being such a departure from the previous output, but it doesn't take many playthroughs before it's beauty begins to become apparent. A long-standing favourite.

Better than I thought it was

5 stars, only cause there’s no option to give 6. I’ll always remember showing up at Target before the store opened, getting in at opening, grabbing the disc, playing it in the parking lot, discovering the secret book tucked underneath the CD holder, and just soaking it all in.

Love this album.

Yeah, like I’ll have anything clever to say about this.

Absolutely excellent.

I was there when this album came out - I remember the jaw dropping whiplash I got when I heard the follow to the more conventional OK Computer, and it's predecessor, The Bends. It had taken some time to grow on me, but this then become of my favourite ever albums - end to end, it's beautiful and well managed, and honestly a bit of a one of a kind. Rarely does an album contain so few pop cliches, yet still hook you on for it's entirety. It could very much be an instrumental as Thom Yorke's contribution here is mostly warbling and and rambling of a deranged stoner. But it's orchestrated perfectly, and even after all these years, there are lot of gems till to be discovered deep in the mix and musical arrangements. Cannot give it a lower rating than the maximum.

the best Radiohead album.

Kid A is one of the most important album of the last 30 years. It was however, not made in a vacuum. Radiohead had long been influenced by electronic artists such as Aphex Twin, and sought to explore what music could be if one looked outside of conventional instrumentation and song structure. The result was this watershed album which managed to show Radiohead at their most electronic and experimental, while remaining deeply human.

How to disappear completely might just be the best song ever, and more than half of the others are in contention for a place in my top 100. I loved this album after the first couple of times I heard it, and have loved it ever since. Maybe my favourite Radiohead album, although there is plenty of competition! Could be 10 out of 5 in my book!

Loved it when it came out, but barely listened because it felt so miserable. Still love it, and it's still miserable, but then so am I, so it's fine.

What does one of the most successful Alt.-Rock bands of the 90s do as the followup to one of the most important and successful alt rock - albums of that decade? - They make an experimental electronic album. And it's awesome. But to appreciate it, listeners needed to do one thing: forget everything they knew about Radiohead up to that point - this is Radiohead reborn. As mentioned, this album is highly experimental, but remains accessible throughout at the same time (something that can't be said about the band's later album The King of Limbs). Every track is different, there is so much to discover here. I don't like every track equally well, but this album as a whole is almost iconic, it warrants 5/5.

Classic

I can't express what a weird and wonderful experience this album was for me in 2000 as a 16 year old. Suffice to say I listened to the whole of the Kid Amnesia box set, even the crappy outtakes today and enjoyed it thoroughly.

One of my favorite albums. The intro is my go to for testing any speaker setup

Echt heel tof!

Fantastic

Með mínum uppáhaldsplötum. Hlusta á hana mjög reglulega.

An amazing album. Everything in its right place and how to disappear are essentially enough for greatness, but optimistic and idioteque and other keep this exciting (and occasionally challenging) from start to finish.

Tråkig spaning. Fantastisk skiva.

This one took several times through. Listened over breakfast on speakers and just couldn't get enough volume --- wondered if speakers were somehow faulty. Tried again while I worked, on different speakers this time, and got more volume --- better but definitely blended into the background. Third time with headphones and I wish two things: (a) that I'd started with headphones, in a dark room on some nice cushions; and (b) that I'd listened without carrying the full weight of my expectations of Radiohead, a band I don't know much about apart from their reputation. Frankly, this is a much more interesting album than I would expect from a band that is so popular. Perhaps I've underestimated the masses. This is challenging music, not a care-free ride. Songs with nonstandard instrumentation and freaky time-signatures. Sometimes cacophonous, other times just nicely shifting ambient tones or a predictable bass groove. I wanted to hear the details, sometimes to crawl around inside the sounds and figure them out and at other times wanting to just float and let them carry me. And this is all without really hearing much of the lyrics. Maybe that's a whole other level of stuff? Anyway, I like this. A lot. And want to spend some more quality time with it.

This is one of my favorite albums, a great Earth Day eve listen. KID A is best experienced in a meditative state. On headphones it is glorious. Challenging in both theme and construction, it’s not a good choice for passively listening to while doing errands. What you will find here is an exceptional expression of our 21st century race towards self-destruction. Like the cover art, the music is an icy, cold exploration of existential dread. Even the song “Optimistic” is darkly so, with the refrain “You can try the best you can, The best you can is good enough” and closing with “Dinosaurs roaming the earth.” We can, it is and we are.

The best Radiohead album? I don't know. My favorite? Probably.

No matter what one thinks of Radiohead, this is one avant-guard album. I liked the band’s music before, but this signaled something much different. It remains one of my favorites.

I lost all my notes. It's a good album.

Damn I love Radiohead. Haven't listened to Kid A for a while, tried to focus on the musical design and style of the songs to think about the album in a different way than usual. Still really liked it, very experimental, it felt like a piece of abstract art in a way.

Adorooooo

I fucking love Radiohead <3 and their style of music

Radiohead goes electronic and creates a masterpiece

This goddamn album saw me at my smartest. It was all downhill from here.

Rating: 9/10 Best songs: Everything in its right place, Optimistic, Idioteque, Morning bell

The transitional record after the transitional record. A few self indulgent moments but generally awesome.

Toot toot it’s the SS Anxiety!

Absolute masterpiece, deserves to be listened to in the dark with noise-cancelling headphones.

One of my all time favourite albums

Just wanders about a bit electronically and lets my mind do the same

I know this album incredibly well already. It's a Radiohead classic that took them from being a good rock band, to being an incredible band.

Kenn ich

Honestly Motion Picture Soundtrack bumps it up like a full point for me. Just an absolutely beautiful send-off to an already solid album. 9/10

My history with Radiohead has been slightly iffy. Previously, I had only listened to one Radiohead album, OK Computer, which I only bothered with because it popped up on this playlist. I found the student politics and the record collection rock of OK Computer had dated pretty grimly, so I had little expectation that Kid A would be a genuinely excellent album. Yes, it's one of those turns-out-I-was-misguided reviews. I don't wish to spend my time comparing Kid A to OK Computer: I am not that interested in OK Computer. But I will say that lyrically Kid A is less obnoxious than earlier Radiohead efforts, as Thom Yorke spends less time declaring that he is saying something important. Indeed, the vocals oft seem tonal rather than expositionary, there to add aural texture rather than offload pronouncements. Indeed, although this sounds rather tautological, Kid A is very much sound-driven, as in side 2 of Low or Eno's ambient work. Oddly, I found it remarkably hospitable: the drive to explore noise is clearly far more endearing than sloganeering about one's carbon footprint. A revelation.

Über-Album.

It's the Kid

Just so so good. Atmosphere, ups, downs, and everything you want.

It is forkin' great!

Super inspiring stuff. As an alt-rock guy I might listen to earlier albums more (even Pablo Honey!), but this one is way more creative.

I've never listened to this album the entire way through. I didn't feel cool enough for radio head in high school. Melancholy but comforting. I get it.

One of my top 5

Seriøst nok bedste album åbner nogensinde. På min egen top 20 favoritter. In Rainbows er nok deres eneste bedre album. Men stadig 5 stjerner, klart. Det jo kunst altså

It doesn't seem as radical now for a guitar band to make this but still 20 years later there's nothing that sounds like it. National Anthem and Idioteque my favourites

Masterpiece.

One of the all-time greatest rock history entries. A masterclass of innovation. A top 3 favourite for sure.

This is just so good, it just carries the right tone and is fairly easily divorced from it's initial meaning - perfect for projecting your own mood onto and letting it carry you. Maybe another elusive 5 star

Awesome as always.

If I could give this more than 5 stars I would. My favorite radiohead album (I think). I love the rhythms, I love the melodic track/s (optimistic). The whole thing is excellent

5.0 + The Pitchfork review sums up the awesomeness of this album better than I ever could. https://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/6656-kid-a/

4.5 (5)

One of the greatest albums of all time. How To Disappear Completely may be the most beautiful piece of music I've ever heard. Absolutely brilliant songwriting and performances on every track.

Altogether gorgeous and moving and there's so many GOOD sounds it feels like an electronic dreamland. The ending track ;-; beautiful! Better than OK Computer, in my opinion.

Classic.

Classic.

So good

Radiohead’s best!

Their best, experimental but accessible

Another solid album by Radiohead.

Intense, experimental and cohesive. Great album.

Loved it

Not my favorite Radiohead album. But one of the best and most innovative albums ever produced.

Experimental/alternative rock. Great use of ambience and space, but some tracks suffer from a lack of forward momentum and could benefit from delving into post-rock timbre. 9/10

What’s not to like about Radiohead 💕 definite throwback to college stoner listening party vibes. #SoEdgy 🤣

I remember where I was on October 2nd, 2000 at midnight: buying this album in a record store on Massachusetts St. in Lawrence. Then back to my room mate Andrew's room to listen to the album 2 times in a row in total silence. My favorite track off this and perhaps my favorite Radiohead track of all time is The National Anthem. When that kicks in it's fucking go time.

Some great tunes. Usual Radiohead album

I mean, c'mon.

Every single song is so well-crafted.

Masterpiece

Amazing

Amazing

Some of the most interesting sounds I heard in music.

Not a review of the album. Just a related story. One of the best musical experiences I ever had was one time listening to "Everything In It's Right Place". One day at the brewery where I work, this comes on the stereo and the strange acoustics of the space are... perfect... for this song. The sound filled the room in a strange 3d sonic sculpture. As you moved around the space, the different lines and instruments popped out in different spaces. It was fascinatingly a perfect representation of the song. Then the speakers got moved just a bit putting stuff in/out of storage, and I was never able to recreate the effect. We've added more tanks and it would now be completely impossible. But it was amazing once.

I don't care if it's a little pretentious, I really like this album. Radiohead managed to effectively strike a balance between ethereal soundscapes and actual songs.

I kind of turned away from Radiohead after OK Computer, because I like songs. So it was good to listed to this open mindedly. Delicate synth melody lines, free jazz breakdowns, ambient electronica, even some songs. It's distant, heady, richly textured.

They make weird work beautifully here. Can’t beat the opening of the album, and the resonant, moving dissonance continues throughout.

I really liked it. Favorite tracks: Everything In Its Right Place, The National Anthem, Idioteque & Untitled.

Highlights: Everything in Its Right Place, The National Anthem, Optimistic, In Limbo, Idioteque, Motion Picture Soundtrack Very experimental and abstract, but it sounded really good so I had to find the will to read into the lyrics. Some were truly interesting and even ahead of their time. In that regard my favourites would be Anthem, Optimistic and Idioteque. They really nicely painted where the world was heading and it's just as fresh sounding as it was on its release.

I have to admit I was a little disappointed with Kid A when it came out. I really liked OK Computer and I was expecting another big guitar record. It seemed like too much of a left turn at the time, but now it seems like a natural progression. I think it helped to hear these songs live and living amongst the OKC and Bends songs. I really liked Kid A now, but I still like OK Computer and In Rainbows a little bit more. 4.6

yaaay I love Radiohead! I think I have listened to this album before but it was a long time ago. either way, so good. love this album.

UHH MITEN PEAKK 😔🙏 radioheadin 4./5. paras albumi?

EiIRP - Damn, what an intro banger. I love the way that the rhythms aren't necessarily just 4/4, just a good fuckin songs Kid A - Interesting, mellow vibe. Kinda doesn't hold up to EiIRP, but still good overall.

I’ve tried to get into Radiohead before with no luck (really just OK Computer), so I was skeptical going into this. Instrumentally this sounds really good. I read a lot about the band and this album after my first listen and learned this is a departure from their typical sound, but this electronic/rock fusion works and creates an almost eerie atmosphere tension. Lyrically I initially struggled here. The few times I listened to Radiohead I didn’t like Yorke’s voice and could barely understand what he was saying. I really immersed myself when listening this time, and the dark cryptic lyrics along with Yorke’s whiny voice compliment the instrumentals really well. Overall I really enjoyed this and am optimistic going into the more “mainstream” Radiohead albums on this list. Likes: Everything is in its Right Place; Kid A; The National Anthem; How to Disappear Completely; Idioteque; Motion Picture Soundtrack

Love Radiohead and love this album, but admittedly, Thom Yorke does sound a little whiny and droney at times. Amazing album nonetheless, and bookended by some absolute bangers. Everything in it's right place being a contender for best opening track ever!! 4.5/5 Top tracks: Everything in it's right place, How to disappear completely, Idioteque, Motion picture soundtrack.

For many the defining Radiohead album. It's good, but my pick is still ok Computer.

a relisten for me. not my favorite radiohead but its still a great album. some real bangers on here. the synth work is really cool. favorite tracks: Everything In Its Right Place, The National Anthem, Optimistic, Idioteque, Motion Picture Soundtrack

Very beautiful

Radiohead reaching peak weird, losing a star for the last half of The National Anthem

“the sculpture is already complete within the marble block before I start my work. It is already there, I just have to chisel away the superfluous material.”

Kid A still sounds like music from the future about the past, made for the present—a low-hanging cloud of competing, dissonant emotions. It is alienating and anxiety-inducing, yet somehow Thom Yorke and company manage to draw you in with a beautifully ethereal, otherworldly sound. How to Disappear Completely and Motion Picture Soundtrack are two of my favorite songs of all time.

Checked this out from the library circa 2013, ripped it to my iPod, and then nothing was the same. My senior yearbook quote was a line from "How to Disappear Completely." If that's not a sign that you love an album, what is? My ninth-grade biology teacher once said of Kid A, "Why would I want to sit and listen to a bunch of beeps and boops?" I was filled with a rage akin to when the Steelers lose to the Ravens, and if that's not a sign that you love an album, what is? ("Beeps and boops" is less than stupid; it's deranged. I don't merely question the state of that teacher's brain; I also wonder about the state of his everlasting soul. He should be fired and buried, if he hasn't already. Only God can save him.) Thom and Co. run toward any and all contradictions and implode what it means to be a rock band. Instrumentals both cold and warm (listen to the keys on the opener). Electronic glitches both random and gateways to other worlds (listen to the last minute of "Idioteque"...the way the vocals get looped...the screeching in the distance...how the drum machine slowly falls apart). Structures both weird and pop (the "chorus" of "The National Anthem" is brass band train wrecks). Vocals and guitars both human and alien. This album drips with an isolation and anxiety and yearning for beauty and meaning that resonates even more today than it did when I would listen on the school bus in the morning as we wound our way across the empty fields of Huckleberry Land. "We've got heads on sticks...Rats and children, follow me out of town." I'm following...against my better instincts...I'm following.

Crazy cool sounds cape. Reminded me of a more rock Massive Attack

Heavy hitter album this. Radiohead’s reinvention from good 90s rock band to something more transcendent. For an album that is old enough to be working a mid level job at an accounting firm, it still sounds incredibly fresh.

I like Radiohead and I like this album. But you have to be in the right mood. It makes a great backing track to a focused work or study session.

Are they the most underground popular band? I like the ambient layering in this album. But as with noisy ambient songs in general, I don't think I can listen to 1 hour of this. Solid album, definitely a 4 because of its significance. I also don't think there should be 5 albums of Radiohead in this list.

This album grows on me more all the time. Maybe not my favorite Radiohead album but only bc the bar is so high. It’s really freaking good, so atmospheric and layered and engrossing.

As time has gone by this has grown on me considerably. I still think OK Computer is a better album overall but this has moments of absolute beauty. I'm sure everyone is writing essays as to why its the greatest or worst thing they have ever heard. I will do the opposite. This is a very solid 4 star album. Perhaps challenging upon first listen especially if you were familiar with Radiohead prior to this.

Tight and nice flow, strong heavy songs and beautiful gentle songs. Nice album, good album Highlights: "Everything In Its Right Place", "The National Anthem", "Motion Picture Soundtrack"

Very high peaks, but doesn't hold the level throught the whole thing, unfortunetaly. I liked it a lot nonthenless.

Chuvstvoto predi da pripadnesh ot nedospivane Ovhudvashto 8/11 pesni

It certainly sounds like a Radiohead album. Even though this is good and interesting, it’s not nearly as good and interesting as the boys say it is. I think people need to listen to other albums.

It was cool..

Very ambient; I liked the solid beats and acoutstic backing to the more experimental sounds. I do think it could be pushed more; maybe something with a little more energy or shock. I think there are other ambient instrumental albums that are better.

I usually do two listens of an album for this list because I find it difficult to fully process a record in one listen. The first listen I did, I was very let down. I had always heard this album was great and I had high expectations from the two other Radiohead albums I’ve listened to, but it bored me. The next day (the day I’m writing this), I listened again, but this time I was tired. Not emotionally, just physically, but it made me understand the “All Radiohead fans are depressed” joke. This time, it clicked. Some music is best enjoyed with eyes closed, but I’d say this is best enjoyed staring off into space. 4/5

Generally, I prefer music with a stronger beat. But you don't need a bit when you're spiralling, and that's what this album is giving. Having typed that, 'Idioteque' started playing and I loved it, but I'm also glad not all their songs are like this.

Yeah, okay, that was good, dare i even say amazing, but it`s a little bit overrated

for me I love how it’s ambient and rhythmic at the same time. gotta listen closely to hear all the beats

* 84 Det er ganske forrygende 20. april/sauna indierock/idm-type-thing.

I liked it but I didn't love it. I'm not a huge fan of vibey, sit-down-and-contemplate-life music and unfortunately that's a lot of Radiohead's songs. Great production though.

like how atmospheric this is; want to spend more time with it

This album is like saffron. It doesn’t really have a taste or maybe it does. And it’s so highly rated. The delicacy is subtle but a bit too subtle I can’t really get it if I only listen to it once. So it’s a four and possibly a five if I come back to this album again

probably one of the most interesting albums we've had on this list. its got this haunting beauty to it. i think it really ends up taking you on a journey, would be eager to sit down with this one again. all in all, big fan

This is my favorite Radiohead album I've listened to, but I still don't get the hype. This is a good album with a unique sound. I got lost in it, and it was over before I knew it. It wasn't life changing. Maybe at the time it meant more, but I really just don't get the Radiohead hype. 3.5 stars but I'm going to round up for the unexpected enjoyment I got out of it.

Ok, so this is one of the most Important albums of my lifetime. Important, but that doesn’t necessarily mean I love it. It’s a tricky one to rate - it’s clear how technically good it is, and how big an influence it has had on music in 21st century, but it isn’t half as enjoyable as the two Radiohead albums that preceded it. Having read through the Wikipedia, I think Brice Ezell hit the nail on the head - "more fun to think and write about than it is to actually listen to"

They turned the corner and never looked back. I’ve been struggling to describe their brand of inaccessible but somehow enjoyable music. I guess it’s just Radiohead.

I'm a relatively new Radiohead fan and haven't experienced all of their albums/eras yet. This album has a pretty minimal and electronic sound that I don't like quite as some of their other stuff. I still really appreciate the truly unique sound and immense creativity on this one though. I suspect this would grow on me if I listened through it a few more times and in different moods.

Radiohead definitely took a hard left turn into an electronic landscape that caught many off guard. When I first bought this album I was not expecting what I heard. The soundscape that the band creates is very different from anything they put out before. I'll admit that I would often put this on to chill or fall asleep to so I had never really analyzed it past the first four songs. That being said, it is a good album from a band that was looking to push their horizons at the time. I appreciate more now looking back over the years.

Radiohead is one of those bands that I haven’t spent much time with, even though they should be right up my alley “on paper.” I really liked how abstract and, I don’t know, slow(?) this album was. The open-ended lyrics made me focus on how the vocals fit into the music, rather than on their content. This was good enough that I’ll carve out time to dig into Radiohead more, even outside of this project. Can’t ask for a whole lot more than that.

Another great album by Radiohead. This is the first one where they really embraced their new direction. You can hear elements of some of their older sound, but I would say the transition is nearly complete with this effort. There are lot of standout tracks but overall it’s very strong and cohesive.

beautiful for the most part. partially overcooked

4/5. A similarity that Radiohead shares with artists like the Beatles or Bob Dylan is that there is something of a mythos around their story as a band. And in the Radiohead narrative, Kid-A is often depicted as a sharp, revolutionary left-turn away from their alternative rock roots, veering instead into more electronic influenced music. I would disagree that it’s a revolution, but what this album is is very good. It honestly always sells me just on those opening chords of the intro track “everything in its right place.” Though it takes in more electronics, Kid-A still has some rockers on it too, like my “the national anthem” which starts with a great bass-groove before descending into a chaotic storm of horns. Then right after that is the comedown of “how to disappear completely” which is another one of the bands all-timer songs. My favorite however is “Idioteque” which has a very jittery electronic groove mixed with a great vocal performance from Thom Yorke. All around a great album that deserves its status. Only thing keeping it from being a 5 for me is that I personally prefer several other Radiohead albums (I’d probably put In Rainbows, OK computer, Amnesiac and A Moon Shaped Pool above Kid A in my personal Radiohead ranking.)

Very traditional Radiohead sound I think it’s done better in other albums though 3.5/5 Favorites: how to disappear completely, everything in its right place, motion picture soundtrack

overall i just love it, rn i dont really understand the lyrics but the instrument overall is amazing and almost live changing

It didn't reach the highs (and lows) of other radiohead albums.

Interesting ambient experience. Nothing that blew me away, and at some points it kinda dragged/felt longer than it really is, but ultimately as a whole it was pleasant to listen to and something that I do personally appreciate. I wonder if there's more to appreciate here than meets the eye (ear?) that I am not musically adept enough to comment... But it was still cool, and I do still like it, and could easily have it play for me on most days while I'm doing stuff, especially reading or writing. 3.5/5 or 7.5/10 at least, with an upside.

an atmospheric album but a one heart wrenching song

Prvi mi je že poznan ("Everything in Its Right Place"). "How to Disappear Completely" je hud. Ok, ta je res rabil zame dva poslušanja vidim (alpa me je južna dons čist preveč zamotila). Vse je hudo (zj sm pri "In Limbo"). Pri enem komadu me violine spomnejo na to, kako so ble fino uporabljene poj na albumu A Moon Shaped Pool. Atmosferično.

Classic Radiohead. This is right up there there for me. Great compositions. Everything in it's right place is such a great intro. I remember learning this on piano when I was a kid. Such a great vibe. That bass tone on The National Anthem is gold. Sure there are a couple tracks on here that don't 100% click for me, but overall a top album and very influential.

Of course its awesome. But some of their stuff is even more awesome..r(?)

Aye not bad

Thom Yorke gets freaky with some noises

A great sombre atmosphere

(1st) Everything in Its Right Place- 10/10 (thats where this sound Is from??? How didnt i know that?) Kid A- 6/10 The National Anthem- 8/10 (2nd) How to Disappear Completely- 10/10 Treefingers- 9/10 (i dont like rating instrumentals) (Fave) Optimistic- 9/10 (3rd) In Limbo- 9/10 (fave) Idioteque- 8.5/10 Morning Bell- 8.5/10 Motion Picture Soundtrack- 8/10 (this just doesnt do it for me idk why) Untitled- 8/10

Great, as expected but didn’t grab me all the way. Idiotique and The National Anthem were great.

Thought I would like this better than I did, but it's still pretty good. 3.5

Wow. This three album stretch is so diverse. The Bends- a somber guitar focused album. Ok Computer- a mature album with more instrumentation and mindful critiques. And then this. It starts as an electronic album, the band has once again reinvented themselves, but this time, without their own instruments. The idea that a band is to create a song without their own instrument is daunting, then you consider that the majority of the album is recorded without their traditional guitar styles. The album only contains one “true” traditional Radiohead rocker, and thats Optimistic. The song sounds like it’s taken from the Bends but sounds more calculated. Big name and highly acclaimed album always make me suspicious and critical, considering the masses aren’t known for their good taste. This album is a 21st century Dark Side of the Moon, there’s no other band that has created an album like this. Kid A is a genuinely innovative and interesting album that deserves all of its accolades and love over the 2 plus decades since its release.

This opening track... I find it can open almost any playlist you may want to create. There is never a bad time for it. The National Anthem is a modern jazz classic. It's a little bit or miss otherwise. Idioteque is amazing. Hard to really get a handle on this album. Even at its low points it is still enjoyable, and tracks individually excel. But as a whole I am just unsure somehow, but also feel the fault is mine not the album's.

A really great album. I'd never given Radiohead a chance before, and I was surprised

I feel so deep now

Radiohead suddenly became interesting for me with Kid A. It was quite a brave move, after the success of Ok Computer, set for life, to do a U Turn and experiments with different layers of sounds.

This was always the Radiohead album that I couldn't fully get into. That kind of changed on this listen. From the jump, this album rips. Everything in It's Right Place is about as good as it gets. I forgot how much I liked The National Anthem and Optimistic. I think the strength of the front half of this record makes you forget just how brutal and slow the last 4 tracks are. It's kind of a slog at the end. Also, I've always kind of been bothered by the story behind How to Disappear Completely. "Oh, I'm too successful. Poor me." Great album. Boring in spots.

-sighed out loud when i saw this on my screen. i have a bone deep dislike of radiohead on a personal level. i like their songs, i just don't like them. no real good reason for this. probably a mix of hopeless contrarianism on my part + after having holes drilled into my brain about how clever and musically talented they are i feel like i am just not musically knowledgeable enough to fully appreciate their music, which makes the prospect of listening to them feel like a bit of a dead end. i also think thom yorke seems annoying asf. deep breath. at the end of the day it's just noise and i am going to listen to it with an open mind. -deep sigh. -credit where credit's due they always have great basslines. -i like "the national anthem". -"how to disappear completely" is undeniably beautiful but my enjoyment of any radiohead song is severely hampered by the fact that i don't like thom yorke's voice. sorry for letting my vendetta against him take over. it is what it is. -i REALLY like "optimistic". hadn't heard it before. -"in limbo" took me so off guard woah... beautiful. -"idioteque" is crazy good. of course. -left with the feeling that i don't get it but i liked it a lot anyway :-) can't fully emotionally connect with it, which frustrates me bc it feels like the type of music i SHOULD connect with emotionally. that is probably the reason why i'll never be a diehard radiohead fan. happy for youse though.

It was a pretty good album I know a lot of these songs but I was expecting more lyrics although I’m not upset at that fact

Radiohead is probably never going to be a 5 for me, but I liked this quite a bit. The first track is my fave; I don’t care for the title track. It’s always fun to hear an album and recognize music because I’ve been around when one of you has played it!

I used to prefer their earlier more guitar-heavy albums, but maybe a sign of maturity is their later works growing on me…

I'll say it now; I'm a big Radiohead fan, been listening since Creep, seen them at Glastonbury, saw their first post 9/11 show... but I'm not one of THOSE Radiohead fans. I'm a big enough boy to say that they're not perfect. This isn't their best album. Honestly, I prefer Pablo Honey to this and believe that album should be here over Hail To The Thief. But this about Kid A. Arguably the biggest WTF flip on sound in the history of music. Seriously, you had to be there to understand just how divisive this was. In retrospective of course, all the signs were there, but nobody could have predicted what a U-turn this was. Almost overnight, a huge percentage of the band's fans were gone - those who liked the straightforward rock music, those who liked the sad boy ballads, those who liked that they made interesting rock adjacent experiments. Then fucking Treefingers drops. A portion of those fans would come back, but many never returned. It was certainly a shock to my system, but one I appreciated. There were so many Radiohead clones popping up that this felt like a necessity. It felt like a middle finger to...everyone. And that's cool. What isn't cool is that the band has by and large sat in this same space ever since, with diminishing returns. Yeah yeah In Rainbows bla bla... but In Rainbows is just a much worse OK Computer. They haven't really tread any new ground since Kid A. But that's fine, most bands just do one thing and that's their entire career - see AC/DC, The Rolling Stones, Coldplay. At least Radiohead did something different. But we shouldn't kid ourselves. This album isn't as good as you think it is. Of the ten tracks, only three - maybe four - are essential. The title track, Treefingers, In Limbo are poor, Optimistic and Morning Bell are average. Everything In Its Right Place is good. How To Disappear is a masterpiece, Idioteque and The National Anthem are great. Motion Picture is excellent. Even the average and poor songs are much stronger live. Thom needed the Manic Street Preachers album The Holy Bible so that he could find a new way to write. Without that album, there's no Kid A - probably no OK Computer. He has stated for the record, that he couldn't write The Bends type songs anymore, and it was understanding how Richey wrote lyrics which pulled him out of his writer's block. He also saw how the band changed between Bible and EMG, and thought 'hmm, I could have a slice of that'. So what we are left with is the most notorious experiment/gear change in music. Never a good sign when you skip a couple of songs on a ten song album. But a good sign when it contains one of your best songs, and at least another three bangers. And bonus points for havong the balls to do it.

I mean it's Radiohead. So duh.

Haunting, iconic, and years ahead of its time. Great way for a band like this to kick off the new millennium.

Over time, radiohead kept inching more and more towards electronica and haunting sounds and you really hear it culminate hear. I prefer the more rock forward radio but appreciate the range they bring

Its definitely an album that takes itself very seriously. It gets you sucked into all of these songs and their 'feels'. I really like all the different sounds in this album that Radiohead pulls off, like electronic on Idioteque or ambience on Treefingers. Optimistic impressed me a lot. This is not Radiohead's best album, so maybe the reason I gave it 4 stars is that I know they have better.

april 13 2026 without a doubt my favorite song is motion picture soundtrack, so majestic and memorable instant add to tienes poppers

classic radiohead, good overall.

Only heard the first couple of songs - loved the melancholic rock and space dark feel

Gut wrenching

Insanely incredible from the first 5 seconds

classic for a reason.

Admittedly 25 years ago I was not a Radiohead fan, I considered it to “whiny”. That all changed some years back when I learned to appreciate more diverse music. I love the weird time signature and the studio affects they use on the music. It was really unique for the 2000's music scene. I have grown to love this album with the droning electronica and the melancholy vocals. Yorke and the boys are innovators. This is a great piece of art

very experimental, intro amazing, mid boring, outro amazing and thats all

Beautiful and atmospheric, but it was difficult to stay engaged at times, especially when I was having a sleepy sort of morning. I will always love Radiohead's vocals though <3

Brilliant

I suppose it wasn't conceived as such, but this album depicts perfectly how I feel when I have to get through a working day after a sleepless night.

I enjoy Radiohead as a band. I don’t have much to say on this one. definitely not my fave of theirs, but it doesn't mean it’s bad. I enjoy the eerie-ness of this album. Favourite song: In Limbo Overall rating: 4.2

This was a good album.

primer sonido es mi estilo. How to dissapear completely suena muy cool.

Stark fyra.

Thirs favorite Radiohead album on this list and one of only 3 albums I would keep on this list. Ive had the pad melody from Idioteque in my head for days.

I like this album more each time I listen to it, but I’ve only listened to it 3 or 4 times. Ethereal and abstract, you need to be in the mood for it and also need to listen to it in context of the band’s discography. I could see it getting to a 5 for me but not at this point. Shout out to Motion Picture Soundtrack. Gorgeous song.

Not my number one Radiohead album but it’s still Radiohead so it gets a 4

liked it!

While not big with electronic music generally, Radiohead’s take here I kind of enjoyed. It’s not my favorite Radiohead by far, but there is something here that worked for me. 4/5

I quite like this. Mellow and sad. Track one is 5 stars. I enjoy the experimental journey.

their last good album

favs: Everything in Its Right Place How To Disappear Completely National Anthem

It's a solid album, still prefer Ok Computer and the Bends.

...in the right place. Great songs scattered about a mostly great album.

The first album I was assigned by this website was one I’ve already liked for years! I’d take In Rainbows over this any day, but found this a fun refresh listen. Plus, the National Anthem and Idioteque will never NOT be good.

Hay algo

Not as iconic as android but damn these guys write songs

Pablo is a desert album for me. The departure in sound from that to Kid A is pretty remarkable and respectable from a standpoint of artists wanting to evolve and challenge vs repeating. I quite enjoyed it. Perfect soundtrack for lying in bed on painkillers recovering from surgery.

Not my favorite Radiohead record, but still groundbreaking for what it is and an enjoyable time

Solid album. Some really good tracks. Overall a little slow, but I think that is part of the point.

01) Everything in Its Right Place - 10,0 02) Kid A - 8,0 03) The National Anthem - 9,0 04) How to Disappear Completely - 9,0 05) Treefingers - 7,5 06) Optimistic - 10,0 07) In Limbo - 8,5 08) Idioteque - 9,5 09) Morning Bell - 8,0 10) Motion Picture Soundtrack - 8,0 TOTAL: 8,75 (88/100) Current ranking: 105/842

More an experience than collection of songs

Its a nice blend of typical radiohead sound and some experimental aspects, i enjoyed it quite a bit but wouldnt say its my favorie

Everything in its right place - 3 Kid a - 3 National anthem - 4 How to disappear completely - 4 Treefingers - 2 Optimistic - 4 In limbo - 4 Idioteque - 3 Morning bell - 4 Motion picture soundtrack - 3

I love Radiohead

Fav: Everything In It's Right Place

Great. Didn't listen to the whole thing.

I know this is one of the greats and when it’s on I enjoy it. I just don’t return to it too often. As as whole it is definitely a work of art- ambitious and experimental and beautiful. After all these years Still waiting to fall head over heels in love with it though.

So good. I liked this when it first came out, but over the years these songs have become ingrained into my being.

Moody, depressing and atmospheric, its very on brand, its very radiohead. Its a good album, i dont think i was in the mood for it on the day. 4.0/5.0 Best Song: The National Anthem or whatever

Reminded me of vampire weekend. Good vibey music. Less lyrics more instrumental.

I'm not gonna front, Radiohead is brilliant but I don't know enough of their career and catalog. I'm too much of a Radiohead novice to comment. So to me all these albums sound similar. I know they aren't but, like I said, I'm too fucking ignorant.

cinematic vibes. the rhythmic sounds of some of the songs made me sleepy. album art is cool.

This would typically be something I would love. The vocals is what I have a problem with. I loved the ambient and electronic sound, the instrumentation was really good and it's produced very well. I was never a Radiohead fan, people were always super pretentious about this band for some reason and that was also a turn off. However, I tried listening to this with no judgment and I did like most of it.

Some classic tracks

Very good but no memorable hooks.

Great album, tough listen if you’re not in the mood, though

Good stuff.

This is an album that you would expect to be made in the 2010's. It has the perfect atmosphere of a foggy, rainy British port and of the sea creatures that might resides in the deep waters. Though it has some songs I personally could not give a listen to again, others are complete masterpieces. My favorite one by far is "How to disappear completely", and how it perfectly encapsulates that feeling. I find it beautiful that people searching for that answer will come into contact with this song. I wish that I would have been able to play this album along with the game made for it, but even without, it was a beautiful experience. I gotta keep this at review at a 4 though, I can't start with a 5 as my first album.

Listening session: february 18th, while commuting to internship Listened to before: yes listened to most songs before but not to the entire album Thoughts: I love Radiohead and while this is not my favourite album of theirs, I can appreciate the different path they went on with this album and it still contains a lot of songs I love Favourite tracks: Everything in Its Right Place, Optimistic & Motion Picture Soundtrack

Radiohead? What happened to phone sex? This album was really good but TikTok ruined it a bit.

Creativity, some great individual tracks but not enough consistency to claim to be their best.

Good album.

They create some really interesting songs on this album, but I feel that if it was a nameless band I wouldnt score it 5 stars, so 4 it is.

I've never listened to Radiohead properly before, but I'm liking this a lot. The soundscapes are very soothing to my brain. It feels like it's taking me on a journey.

Can already tell this would be unreal to get stoned to. Reminds me a bit of shinjuku mad without the typical whininess of Radiohead.

I like Radiohead.

Not bad 9/17

It’s a very atmospheric album imo and it’s diverse and not the same sound as Radiohead’s first album my fav songs are how to disappear completely and motion picture soundtrack and idioteque was good too really unique sound

everything in its right place - what fuckin synth is this that major chord fuckin me up the national anthem- so real lol how to disappear completely - grows on me motion picyure soundtrack - very pretty song

i’ve been wanting to listen to more radiohead! sitting in jury duty rn i liked everything in its right place and motion picture soundtrack!

I'm not here something is wrong

Very great album. How To Disappear Completely and Idioteque are fantastic, the rest of the album is cold and calm and good. I'd like to come back to this.

Ok album

It took me a good amount of tries to get into Radiohead because they just didn’t fit my musical standard (lyrics and melody combined) but after giving Kid A its 10th listen, I was pretty blown away at how innovative the group was. They redefined how electronic music could be used in a more common rock/pop song. People give Motion Picture Soundtrack a lot of credit S being the best song on here, but it’s between Kid A and Idiotwque for me. Very good album.

Excellent album. The hill I am willing to die on is that it's not nearly as revolutionary an electronic album as the discourse around it is making it up to be

Stunning electronic album with incredible production. The songs are great, the sounds are sweet and eerie. What’s not to love?

Heard it before and is peak overall 8/10

Cool vibes album stuffed with bangers

Simultaneously gloomy and groovy 4 - a great album even among this list

eat shit york

I liked- but kinda sad and scary and not great for mornings lol

Honestly not my favorite Radiohead album as it was in years gone by, but I can't help respect the creativity they have on this album especially given when it was released. Worth 4 stars for that alone.

Beautiful. I can tell it's perfect objectively but subjectively it isn't for me

Everything In It's Right Place and Idioteque are classics with a bit of non-descript filler in between.

Great album from an exceptional band.

Strong start for this project with this album. In the 90s, I enjoyed the Just album but didn't follow them into the shift in style they did in OK Computer and then this. I've listened to Radiohead more and more in the last few years, and was pleasantly surprised at how much of the album I already know and how strong it is a cohesive whole.

Amazing!

Very good album. Great opener with Everything In It's Right Place, and then takes a very atmospheric, almost audio Zen garden turn for a while in the beginning and middle of the album. Songs tend to "drag" but I think these are meant to be soundscapes and that's intentional / coupled with the shorter run time (less songs) its not something that feels daunting. Album feels like an experiment in rock at times, but is intermixed with those aforementioned soundscapes. Love the rock, enjoyed the sounds, but as a total piece did not get over that hurdle to be a top top flight album. 4/5

really good

Album bellissimo peccato che. É dei Radiohead

4.3 w/o 2instr. 4.1 w/ 2instr.

Not as good as I expected based on all the reviews, still good though. 78/100 (is that better phil?)

I think Mr Radio head should play some peggle, then this album won't be so sad

Wasn't planning on doing a song by song but I feel that it might be good in order to say what I'd like to about them. Everything In Its Right Place: I hadn't realised the sound that's used in a lot of social media posts was from the start of this song. The song was alright, I didn't feel there was a huge amount 'to it', though it wasn't bad to listen to. I always feel like I'm more able to comment on songs with more singing (or at least more traditional singing) better, I still enjoy songs without, but being less knowledgeable on instrumental things its difficult to go past "I enjoyed this / didn't enjoy it", though maybe I'm thinking about it too deeply. Kid A: Odd choice for a title track, can't say I've heard it before, some pretty weird sounds. Again, this wasn't bad to listen to, I just didn't feel like there was much there. The National Anthem: Very similar vibe to the previous song, lots of weird music/noises, little to add. How to Disappear Completely: This is a song I could appreciate a lot more, it's definitely a well crafted song, Thom Yorke obviously has some odd vocals but they work well here. I think I heard him say in an interview once that this may be one of the greatest songs he has made. Treefingers: Never heard of this one, the music was pleasant enough, I'm interested in how some of these songs are performed in concert, if at all, perhaps as transitional pieces I suppose. The word esoteric came to mind when listening to this but upon looking it up I don't think it fits so unsure why I thought of it. Optimistic: I went into this one expecting it to be good and it was, guess you could say I was optimistic. Some nice vocals in this one and the instruments were more of a typical rock style which I think I prefer. In Limbo: Decent, very typical Radiohead I felt which is typically a good thing. Idioteque: one of the better ones on the album, certainly some of the strongest vocals for me, I enjoyed it. Morning Bell: felt somewhat similar to the prior song, another of the better ones, perhaps it's boring but it seems I like the more 'normal' songs. Motion picture soundtrack: Perhaps the best one yet, very nice singing, very nice music, very good song. Untitled: little to say, it is what it is. Overall this was an enjoyable album, particular the second half for me, it's not a five star album, I can see that Radiohead fans may give it that but it wasn't quite strong enough for me, some of the earlier songs felt a little empty. 75/100 Score edited 28/01/26

Was great listening to this so soon after The Bends which I found boring and generic- loved this in comparison! Love the electronic textures and the almost-ambient sound of it, a very different album
