Almost perfect. The ultimate 80s album. One that has grown on me over the years rather than one I was drawn to immediately (The Smiths were everything in ‘85, but the more I hear this album the more I love it. Almost brings me to tears of joy and nostalgia every time.

This band and album was completely new to me. Proto-punk apparently. Reminded me a little of Sex Bob-Omb (Scott Pilgrim). A raw, juvenile US garage band. It was ok, but won’t be added to my favourites list.

Jarvis Cocker’s introspective storytelling, paired with the album’s moody arrangements, creates a unique exploration of fame and vulnerability.
