Reviews (page 7 of 13)

The album on Spotify has a lot of live sessions of the songs so it takes away from the flow of the album. Overall Not bad.

Listened Before? N Oh yeah! Sex Pistols! Such an interesting punk band. They're not the most amazing punk band of all time like some people think, but they are one of the best BRITISH punk bands. Goes hard beginning to end and is a historical work. Added to Library? Y Songs added to playlist: God Save the Queen, Anarchy in the U.K.

A rollicking affair. Lots of energy. Some of it a tad misguided but still a wild and fun listen. Not perfect but pretty damn good.

No necesito escucharlo,me mola muchísimo (PSP)

The last time I listened to this album was about ten years ago when I was making my way through Rolling Stone's 100 greatest albums. I don't know if I'll listen it to again, since punk rock is not generally my jam. But I can't help but appreciate its energy, its influence and how the Sex Pistols changed the course of music. Also, the album cover and title are fantastic. 4/5.

Just all around great and honestly an essential listen to all who like puck or rock

Never really listened to the sex pistols but it was much nicer than I expected

Beginning to sound a bit dated now, but it's still a classic. An historic album.

Great historic album. I prefer The Clash or The Damned but this will always be a classic.

*New York

God saved this album! It's been so long since I listened to Sex Pistols.

Classic British punk. Sex Pistols only album but extremely influential. Still holds up and most of the songs are 5/5. Giving it 4/5 as a whole as some songs doesn't compare to hits like God save the Queen.

Pretty good! Solid punk rock and definitely British lol. Good energy to the album but not all the songs are hits Fav Tracks: Holiday In The Sun, Liar , God Save The Queen, Problems, Anarchy In The UK, Pretty Vacant Worst Track: Submission 8/10

Come on Eileen is the worst song on this album!

Decent album

I like the Sex Pistols, I have listened to this whole album a few times through in the past. However I always just listened to it to listen, not to think about its influence. I could really see where modern pop punk and emo music gained influence, as well as other forms of modern alt music. Favorite songs of this album are, of course, god save the Queen and anarchy in the uk. I also really enjoyed holidays in the sun. Overall I like this album a lot, it’s not my personal favorite of all time though so I’ll give it a 4/5!

I have this. I enjoy it and obviously it's an important album.

I love a few songs on this album, and I really appreciate what it represented at the time, but I can't quite put it on the pantheon of amazing albums. 4/5

This is a really good album. Catchy songs. Lots of driving rhythms. Some iconic bangers in here. And lots of energy and oomph in general. ** this review brought to you by Country Life butter ** Mmm-hmm, taste the country with every delicious bite. Pleasantly surprised!!!! Guess I wasn't ready for it all those years ago when I tried it for the first time. Shout out to John Lydon who features on "Open Up' from one of my top albums Leftism (Leftfield)

Genuinely shocked I've never listened to this in one stretch before. Raging and loving it. Holds up better as an album than as individual songs imo. Not sure what to make of MAGA Lydon, but from seeing Pistol and listening properly to these songs the man is pure empathy. Standout track would be Pretty Vacant

Still pretty good. Much more listenable than I would have imagined. Couple of songs I'd never heard that are memorable enough, I liked New York.

Was surprised to learn this is their only studio album, I always thought they had a bigger back catalogue. Being from 1977 the production sounds great and I can easily see how this influenced other bands over the years. Overall I quite liked this album. Highlights were "Anarchy In The UK", "Submission" and "God Save The Queen".

I probably haven't heard this properly before, although had a mate who was into them for a bit. Apparently they were a manufactured band! It was way better than I remembered it to be although I'm not sure how punk it really is..... Was probably the epitome of punk at the time but it sounds quite pop punky now to me, feels like it's trying to be edgy rather than it really is. Designed to shock type thing......Not sure about some of the lyrics either. All that said, I enjoyed the sound and it undoubtedly inspired a lot of bands I grew up loving.

First time I've listened to this in its entirety since high school. I enjoyed it a lot back then, and it's still a pretty decent record to these 42 year old ears.

Everyone’s favorite punk boy band! Ha. The Pistols may have been kind of bullshit, but they did have some good songs and Steve Jones knew how to deliver a riff. Unfortunately, a lot of the tracks are kind of samey- the ones that caught on did so for a reason- so I’d seldom pick this over prime Clash, but I can agree that it’s worth listening to and probably even owning depending on where your tastes lie. C, but I think it deserves a fourth star

Good album, shame Johnny Rotten's a piece of shit bigot these days

This record has gotten so many spins throughtout the years! And it's a huge inspirational album for punk bands. Johnny Rotten's sneering vocals, Steve Jones's raging guitar, Paul Cook's pounding rhythms, it's all packing a punch. Even though there were better punk albums, I feel like this record's kind of essential for anyone who likes pubk. Key tracks: Holidays In The Sun, Bodies, No Feelings, God Save The Queen, Problems, Anarchy In The UK, Submission, Pretty Vacant, 8 out of 10

Punk rock by committee. Focus grouped, polled, tested, branded, and marketed to sell clothing and other sponsored products. Over-produced and safe. When you frame it that way, this is really better than it has any right to be! 3.75

The usual punk rock I'd expect from the Sex Pistols. Nothing I go crazy for but solid

Going into this one, I only knew the biggest songs (Anarchy, God Save the Queen, Pretty Vacant), but was pleasantly surprised. Even though I prefer fellow contemporary The Clash and some of the art-punk (later post-punk leanings) of bands like Wire and Gang Of Four, this was still very solid.

A great album of classic British punk rock.

frábær plata

Seminal Punk. The lack of polish is intentional - but it gets in the way of my being able to enjoy the album.

Possibly the most influential punk band there has ever been. All the songs sound the same with different lyrics, so as a standalone album it’s not incredible, but I enjoyed it very much anyway. 4/5

Great classic punk album. One of the most iconic voices ever. 9/10

The altar at which punks kneel. Loud and fast as promised, this one is packed with snarling guitar riffs and Rotten's sneering vocal delivery. It's never been an essential listen for me, but hey -- I'm no punk. And it's still pretty damn great.

Simple, straightforward punk music. I'm a sucker for this kind of thing and tend to give points for music that I think had an outsized impact on the medium, which I don't think can really be argued here, despite the fact that I always thought the Sex Pistols mythos was annoying, and I thought the music was bad. That being said, I'm definitely enjoying it way more this time around. I also spent some time reading through Sid Vicious' wikipedia, and damn, very sad story. I had NO idea he died that young. Standouts: Bodies, Liar, God Save the Queen, Anarchy in the UK, New York

Never Mind That Johnny Rotten Is A Massive Shithead, Here's An Influential Album. Seriously, some of this is really hard to listen to knowing what we know now about that penis wrinkle. Best track: EMI

3.7 excellent punk rock album.

Don’t be surprised if you hear me using “bollocks” in my day to day vernacular

RIP Queen Elizabeth, you would've loved the Sex Pistols

It definitely was listening to something big that happened in history the music. Very simple punk rock very simple lyrics but really fun to listen to

THA QUEEEN IS FAACKING DEEEAD!!!!!!!!! FACK THA QUEEN! Kuningatar Elisabet II kuoli minun käsissäni.. EI SUORAAN... voodoo nukke... KURISTIN PASKAKSI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ei enää kauaa...ei enää kauaa... kohta....kohta.....kohta hyvä album, klassikko god save the queen

Good solid album. Can hear the impact this had on subsequant attists for decades afer.

First time album listen. Raw, underproduced (of course) but punchy and I imagine in your face for the day. Ararchy in the UK has to be the stand out, if are prepared to skip god save the queen

Have listened to this plenty of times before, and it's just brilliant for what it wants to be. It's musically pretty simplistic, but it's a perfect platform for the snarling rage and caustic lyrics that go over the top of it. Does it merit a 5? Not quite - it gets a bit lazy lyrically on a couple of the tracks - but it's definitely a 4. God Save The Queen, Anarchy In The UK, and Pretty Vacant are all incredible songs.

Good album, classic, influential

Very puntig.

Exactly what I needed!

I can *see* them recording this idk like the audio really paints a clear picture in my head

It's good

Guitar is crazy

Fuck yea

yeah alright fine this shit is revolutionary or whatever. i used to listen to it when i was 14 and think i was the coolest kid ever, because it was the SEX PISTOLS and they were LOUD and BRASH and RUDE and they HAD SOMETHING TO SAY ABOUT POLITICS IN THE UK i love punk music, and i love political protest music. this album was revolutionary for both, and despite the fact that this album is rather tame in comparison to most modern punk, every punk musician owes some bit of acknowledgement to this album and this band. they weren't very talented, they haven't aged great, but damn it, this one is a necessary listen. anarchy in the uk remains one of the coolest songs ever when put in its historical context

memorabilia

As someone recently pointed out to me, I am not a punk rocker. I don’t like super loud, angry guitar playing for one. And, I don’t like it on this album. I can however hear and appreciate the influences the Sex Pistols had on future bands. Over all, their diction is surprisingly good. Hearing all the words among the ruckus is impressive.

Hot damn the sex pistols rock! I used to listen to all kinds of punk but of course i never listed to this old junk... which turned out to be way better than the misfits, dead kennedys, circle jerks, and so on and so on. Amazing this was 1977, what a subculture. Just raw energy, complete originality, and, you know, rockin fast songs with real and varying hooks.

deserves to be on this list, bodies is excellent

Definitely had a Sex Pistols phase after watching The Great Rock n Roll Swindle and Sid and Nancy back in high school. Can't deny the impact this had, but ultimately the nihilism on display here rings pretty hollow. Sounds like it could use a good remastering too. It's funny, for how much punk seems to center around authenticity, this band, which is considered a pillar of punk rock, is essentially a big cynical prank at its core.

Obviously an incredibly influential record--the raw energy is pretty incredible. Been a bit, had a good time listening.

I feel like I’ve shit on a lot of punk albums on this list but this one, of course, is an exception. It’s one of the most influential album of not just punk but of the 70s and Johnny rottens voice is just so compelling and unique. While I still wouldn’t say I loved this whole album I liked each song and understood why it’s so highly regarded. Obviously anarchy in the uk is the standout; it’s one of the best songs ever. Interesting that it was the only song with the original bass guitarist before Sid vicious came in.

Understandable why the stiff British upper crust didn't like these guys but it was all in good fun, right. Now I need to go get snockered and watch Sid & Nancy.

Way better than I expected. Love the message

Very enjoyable, but not a personal favorite.

This album is the epitome of punk rock. Loud, aggressive, and politically relevant, it blasts through your speakers with as much relevance today as it had when it was made. While the instruments are basic, the total package of the album is superb. Standout songs are Anarchy in the UK and No Feelings.

Enjoyed this more than I thought I would. Definitely an influential album.

Always nice to hear a classic.

Love them or hate them, they were effectively the face of British Punk in the 80s. While tough to stomach at times with their raw, unpolished style, this is a seminal album in the history of modern rock.

It's a great rock record. Jones, Matlock and Cook are a great band. Johnny Rotten annoys the hell out of me, but I'm able to get past that because the band sounds so solid.

What a classic . Easy way to start a collection. It’s interesting to see how wel produced it is compared to other punk albums.

God Save The Queen on the day she dies? Wow, that's an eerie coincidence. While super influential, it's not a good album. I doubt think I'll be playing the whole thing through again any time soon.

The roots of the punk as we know it were made here. Classic album for me.

I love this album, because when it came out, it stirred things up and kicked a few elitist ass. Also, their sound and vibe are distinctive from many other punk bands, which is really great.

I thought it was good. I think that I probably could’ve lived my life without ever hearing this though.

Quick, great flow.

An album I love but I just can't give it 5 idk why is it Johnnys dickishnes Is it the terrible production I'm not sure 4 /5 just missing something a 5 needs

I like punk, in general, and they're quintessential punk. Ergo, high marks

Great album!

Buen sonido, buena tapa.

Great punk album, a lot of similar songs but if you wanna run through a brick wall this su the music to play

Johnny Rotten is one of my favorite vocalists Big time Elvis Costello vibes ANARCHY New York is an atrocious song So are a lot of them tbh Let’s go ahead and call this outsider art

Good British punk, raw and loud mouthed and irreverent.

Johnny rotten is one of my favorite singers. This album slaps, its a great mix of punk and rock music thats sounds great 40+ years later. Best track by far is anarchy in the uk, what a fucking fantastic song. Rip sid vicious 8/10

Good early punk rock album

I am pretty familiar with the sex pistols and their story. already have god save the queen & anarchy in the uk in my spotify. definitely heard this album before but I'll give it another spin. Still as punk as ever.

7/10, iconic but pretty uniform, couldn’t exactly distinguish songs, but damn they defined British punk

While this album isn't exactly my thing, I have to appreciate it for what it is-- it was so influential, and the fact that it's their only studio album is mindblowing!

Super fun. I can’t believe this came out ‘77. Must’ve blown some minds. 👏

Never mind the bollocks

I never realized how much is going on in this, production-wise. The guitar sounds great! And unfortunately if you take away the vocals this sounds like a lot of 80s sunset strip hair metal. Sure, they're manufactured, but they're manufactured pretty well.

politics baby

Rating: 8/10 Best songs: No feelings, Anarchy in the UK, Pretty vacant

8/10 Solid album. Have heard some of the songs and enjoyed the listen.

7/10. Solid album

Never mind the ______, here’s _______. 7/10

Excellent.

This just gets me amped

Probably some of the worst musicians out there but you’ve gotta love their energy

Classic british punk.

Reading their story, it makes sense why this is their only album...they were a mess

Yeah traditional UK punk which is fine

I like this album. It is definitely my favorite in the punk genre thus far. Fast, pointed songs - lots of energy, and a love for freedom and free speech.

Sounds revolutionary for the time period. Perhaps not so much now.

Okay I usually think punk is really boring and lame, but this one was great

Such a legendary album! But also, it is punk rock, so it sounds rather similar to all the other 77'ers. The vocal performance is quite hysteric (especially on Anarchy in the UK), which definitely adds to the enjoyment and the abrasiveness. Whereas the distortion isn't extreme, it is quite an abrasive and noisy soundscape to emerge in, which suits the album. For me, it is one of the better punk albums (with the hysteric vocals being a big contributor) but it is also hard not to acknowledge what a cultural phenomenon it was and was part of. And hey, God save the queen, 'Cause tourists are money!

Está chulo.

Not really sure why the Pistols aren't played more during riots and insurrections. I guess it may be because people who are involved in flipping police cars and setting them on fire don't need a soundtrack for violence. If they listened to the Pistols, it might give their message more sustained power. I call for Anarchy in the Universe.

Super cool to be exposed to the rawness of SP after a long time. Pretty incredible sound for the era, and spicy lyrics.

Nostalgia is so powerful- I used to love this album and I think that I still do.

Really liked it this time around. I swear I've listened before and didn't get too into it. Definitely an influential punk album.

I've heard this album so many times when I was a teen. Being a prog head it was weird to listen to a lot of punk as well. I mean, so many of the songs were basic and raw, but there was an earnestness to them that is undeniable. It would be interesting to have heard more from this bband, but it was so manufactured they were never going to last. The songs themselves, now that I listen to them as a whole again 35 years later... well, some of them were obviously made to shock. I can see how "Bodies" or "Seventeen" would NOT go on the radio. But there are some great songs here: "Pretty Vacant" is still very catchy. I never did like "Submission;" Rotten trying to be sexy and just sounding scuzzy. The performances themselves are pretty sloppy, but they still hold up. Man, "Anarchy In The UK," "God Save The Queen"... they just really smack you in the face and do not let up, do they? So yeah, I have listened to this album a lot in my youth, but hadn't listened to the whole thing in a while. It was refreshing to come back to it and hear it with a new (and more mature) set of ears. Still really like it, though. I just can't give it 5 stars, just because of the embarrassment of songs like "Submission," "Seventeen" and "Bodies" (I still like "Bodies" but geez man...)

These guys really manufactured some of the best punk in history, and their influence on the genre can't be overstated.

Beneath all the chatter and hype about this, it's actually a really good, strong rock album. Great guitars, almost prescient lyrically and the most iconic vocal you will hear for many years

great album

I've listened to a number of albums in the this project that were labeled "punk," but this is the first one that really sounds like that I thought "punk" was. And I probably enjoyed listening to those other albums more. This one is aggressive and was a challenge for the morning commute to work. However, it kind of grew on me over the day, probably especially for Johnny Rotten's unique vocalizations. I find it kind of funny that this album is held in such reverence by those who have created the rock canon. It doesn't really want your reverence. I really don't know how to rate it except that I'm glad to have finally experienced it.

Its gone down a bit for me over the years but it is a great sounding album production wise.

This album is messy, the musicianship is lacking, and it’s perfect for what it is. The Sex Pistols were marketed specifically to appeal to the nascent punk scene but they brought their own brand of sneer and anti-establishment politics to the mix. While it may be doubtful that Johnny Rotten and co. were actual anarchists, there is something to their critique of a pre Thatcher Britain that is genuine and angry

Powerful, rebellious, raw energy, in your face, political, blunt, brutal, one and done, statement!!! This album stands alone in Punk as a single punch to the gut from the Sex Pistols. Had they had more recorded output it may have taken away from the impact of this album. This is a favorite album of mine but there is no denying the impact on rock and roll and punk. The Lyrics are smart and potent, sometimes funny, sometimes offensive but I guess that is the point. You can see the influence on other artists and see why they were recognized as a major influence on Nirvana. Like I said not my favorite but I clearly see the influence and impact, particularly at that time in the UK. 4 for it's impact and influence. Favorite song: Anarchy in the UK, Pretty Vacant.

Never Mind the rest of the Punk in this list, Here's the Sex Pistols! Now, this is good punk rock. Absolute classic! 4.5/5

Liked it

Angry, sloppy, and amazing. This band was a mess, and it worked so well.

Still sound great, one of my first albums...

Good with a few great songs

Definitely an important album, but if we're being honest it's not all that good.

This album put the band and punk itself on the map, Although punk was going well before this. Today it stands as one of the most influential punk albums to be recorded and probably thee quintessential punk album all time. Stand out tracks: Bodies, Submission and Pretty Vacant. FFO; The Clash, The Dammed, The Ruts.

The typical middle aged Londoner's renowned stiff upper lip must have stiffened to the point of shattering when they first heard the Sex Pistols. They didn't know how to play but nobody cared. Musicianship wasn't the primary (or secondary) selling point. They were all about stirring things up and with their one album they succeeded. Talk about bang for the buck.

Nice crunchy punky sounds

Pretty good Punk.

woops actually 10/10 - not at all dated, fearless, catchy, joyous even if dodgy lyrics occasionally. fun fun fun yes lol iconic. 'submission' is classic cos it has a wee synth at the start, it's like post-punk but punk lol

It's been talked about enough their influence on culture and music history, but even disregarding it, this is an impressive work of music that deserves its reputation and influence. This is THE punk attitude and what it represents. This album is remarkably rock-heavy, clearly taking influence on earlier garage sources, but it sounds great. Instruments rock and compliment Rotten's intense vocals. It's straightforward music, nothing crazy or exotic as seen in glam rock or prog rock. Simple chords and repetition with charm and identity thrown it to make each song memorable and great to listen to. I love the small things like in "Bodies" how they would just stop for a split second then immediately start back up from the top. Rotten is really into his performance, which makes it incredibly engaging for the audience. I absolutely love the direct confrontational approach of his vocal style that goes beyond singing, not so much telling a story as he is expressing dissent and ridicule, making it mildly humorous and relatable. Those moments draw my attention, and I love how it's a defining feature of punk. But it's so prevalent and genuine here that it's no wonder this is a benchmark for punk music. As for the tracks individually, I think they're mostly great. Nothing screams out as bad or lazy, although some tracks in the first half blended in and it didn't pick up until the famous "God Save the Queen."

It's got some great songs but what is going on with the new york song at the end, is it just classic homophobia or am I missing something? 🤔

Better than I expected. Good stuff UK keep it up

Solid Punk Rock origin

Punk rock classic

Never mind the bollocks-the Sex Pistols High energy recording. Even though the recording isn’t the best. The vocals jump out of the speakers. The anger and sex appeal booming out of Johnny rotten is immediately heard from “Holidays in the sun” Bodies is super fun. Lovely language that is so entertaining to your ears. It’s hard not to smile listen to rotten screaming about his existence. I love the speed/tempo of the album. The recording wasn’t mic’d the best. But the energy of the band is so forthright it’s hard to care much about anything but their rock and rock energy. They don’t care if you like them which makes me like them more. This album is dope

Der Ursprung des Punk Rock!

10/10 anarchy God save The Queen!

The first and the only Sex Pistols album. The album has influenced many bands and musicians, and the industry in general. In particular, the album's raw energy, and Johnny Rotten's sneering delivery and "half-singing", are often considered game-changing. It is frequently listed as the most influential punk album, and one of the most important and best albums of all time. I liked it, but overall it is a bit same and monotonous.

Solid punk album

I knew this list would bring up albums I should have listened to all the way through but never took the time. Didn't take long - 3rd one in and here we are. Stands the test of time. Standout track: Submission

Overall good. Foundational album in the punk rock space. It took me about 3 songs or so to really get into the album. Ended up enjoying for the most part.

Pretty amazing to think about this hitting in 1977.

Pretty Vacant is one of my all time favourites, and there are a lot of other great songs on this as well. Enjoyed it

A strident set of songs well delivered and probably much improved by the production crew. They still stand up today although the lyrics seem a little tame.

Would’ve been a good live show, six topless sweaty band members screaming and doing their thing on stage. Gets a bit samey, but enjoyable nonetheless and punk institution

Solid punk rock. Not sure how I feel about the singing style

Great energetic punk album. Incredibly important to the development of the genre.

Some of the OGs of punk, can't hate this stuff, it birthed the stuff I grew up listening to. Not sure how much I love it for it's sound tho, I more just respect the importance of it. Nah, by the end I loved this, sick, OG punk. Easy a 4.

Mid party vibes

Great classic punk rock album. Could hear generations of bands to follow in the guitar/drum riffs and angst riddled lyrics. Holiday in the sun, anarchy in the UK, New York

Saved Prior: None Off Rip: Holidays in the Sun, No Feelings Cutting Edge: None Overall Notes: Iconic album, iconic sound, infectious energy. You basically get what this album is about from any song you put on and it doesn't really stray from the recipe, but that recipe is pretty fuckin strong. A 3.5 that I'm going to round up cus I was never not at least mildly enjoying myself listening to this. Can't imagine how crazy this would've been to see live.

4.5 - deeper and more complex by comparison to the Ramones, but ultimately wasn't very intriguing (to me) lyrically and although there were a couple of standouts I didn't feel the consistency to make it a 5.

4, probably another 4.5. Kind of similar, I find the vocals to get grating after awhile. But there's undoubtedly some incredible tracks on here. what a back to back combo with the Ramones, eh?

The beginning of punk rock in the UK.

Agreablement surpris.

Classic punk rock.

Like many, I was pretty familiar with this band's history, their influence, and their big tunes. However, reading-up on this album--and spending more time with the less-heralded tracks--gave me an even greater appreciation for Johnny Rotten's trolling. Punk needs more diss tracks; and now I wonder if the New York Dolls responded to their criticism in "New York". I think Johnny's snotty voice elevates their overall sound, and the backing vocals on tracks like "EMI" are a nice touch (even if it does sound a bit too similar to The Modern Lovers' "Roadrunner"). I understand its punk, but I would have welcomed a little more deviation in sound from the rest of the band. 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Wea wena

Classic Punk sounding like well punk, the same rowdy boys from Britain talking about thrashing you and me and everyone else doing their thing.

God Save Johnny Rotten, this is the Sex Pistols! Great punk energy, even without the musicality.

i actually really like it, the vocals especially are really fk cool and like expressive which i love. they are super on brand, like really loud and stuff, but the music is actually melodic and well crafted under the vocals and volume which is such a cool juxtaposition and makes the songs actually awesome. i think the drums are my favourite. i guess a criticism could be they dont really tend to deviate from one specific style; theres nothing wrong with it but it would be cool if they did. i also LOVE the album name and cover, the name and font fit their style so well, but the pink and yellow contrast it which is literally SO COol. i think the best thing about this album is the feeling it gives you when you listen to it, like the anti-establishment thing really empowers you, and how as a band they are so unconventional. easy to listen all the way through. favourites: no feelings, god save the queen, anarchy in the uk

As chaotic as the Sex Pistols were trying to be, it's all a lot more musical than I was expecting and clearly has it's roots in Rhythm and Blues. Aside from some homophobia that hasn't aged well, the rest of the album flows pretty well, and I enjoyed pretty much all of it.

Influential punk. Pretty together.

Classic album that had a revolutionary impact on music.

Heard a billion times in my youth and confirmed the rating. 4! I also feel like punching someone in the face

Great rock album. Very fun listen.

The marketing hype that went with this album really over shadowed the talent that is John Lydon. Portrayed as trash and talentless, never mind the bollocks is anything but.

This a true classic album. Some of its shock has been lost over the years, but it's still a fun and chaotic listen.

This was the 70s?! Bodies was wildly fun, and I can see how this song influenced a lot of the music I'm into from the modern day. Problem shreds. The singer's voice is off but idk if that's a bad thing. I like the contract b/t him being off putting and the lyrics/music being approachable. Probably would have loved this as a teenager

Some good punk rock. Hear a lot of other classic punk bands in their sound.

This is the most influential punk band of all time. I don’t know what else to say.

Good old tunes.

Really better than I was expecting! Very melodic for Punk. I like it so far. Easily a 3, maybe a 4??? We'll see what songs 7-12 sound like. Yeah, it would probably be a 3.5, but I'll grant it a 4.

Bro has a unique voice. I've heard Anarchy in the UK about a million times though. Probably 3/4 of which was from the Tony Hawk Pro Skater series lol. The rest of the album is pretty much what I expected though. Classic punk.

Why did I spend so much time listening to Kiss in 77? This rocks! Didn't know G&R covered so many of these songs.

Obviously a very important album and a pioneering band. An epic album in lyrical and musical content, but any melodic genius is destroyed by Rotten's painful shrieking, which of course was part of the punk aesthetic... but I just don't like listening to it 🤷‍♂️ Sorry! Submission has such a good chord progression and vocals are bearable on this track.

I’m not sure Johnny Rotten intended this music for me when he wrote it, but golly I sure enjoy it fellas Power chords and attitude. Good listen during work

Iconic

No denying the impact this album made.

good!!

meh...never really a fan...interesting historically though

I dig it... classic

Love it. A lot.

The Filth and the Fury

Good background music, songs work well with each other.

Excellent, of course. I was always a bigger fan of the Clash but I can definitely appreciate the Sex Pistols too.

While I am not the biggest fan of this style of music, I appreciate quite a few of the songs and felt nostalgiac when I realized I had heard "Anarchy in the UK" as a kid playing Tony Hawks Pro Skater. Fun listen, but definitely one and done for me.

Rock in roll

Here's an unpopular opinion: of all the post-rock-n-roll movements, I think Punk has the shallowest range and the shortest shelf life. For all that this is pretty damn solid.

This is the right amount of punk. A classic. Honestly it's way tamer than I thought it to be.

I actually enjoyed this album quite a bit. It helped me understand some of the roots of punk music. Nothing too drastic instrumentally, but everything worked very well together.

All time. How good are his rolling Rs. Anarchy in the UK obvious highlight (Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 anyone?)

Riffs and progressions are great. Submission is a new favorite song.

Favourite songs - Anarchy in the UK EMI God save the queen Least favourite - Problems Bodies

Classic punk.

Punk bible. Anarchy in UK, God Save the Queen, etc. good stuff, but you def have to be in the mood for it.

Great punk album

One of those bands that have stood the test of time despite only having one album. Not a whole lot a variety, but some absolute classics on this album.

Up da punx

I'm not too much of a punk guy, and I dislike the weird production on some of these songs, but I can admit that there's an odd banger or three in this.

The lads are full of shite!

Never mind the Sex Pistols, here’s the bollocks

Wasn't to my taste but its a good album

Jonny Rotten? More like Bonnie Bottom. A solid album, an important album, repetitive to listen to.

A solid (punk-)rock album! At least not every track sound exactly the same (as it was the case with the last two punk rock albums), and they are decently complex musically. The guitar is very prominent throughout the album, and is pretty good. Also, the drums - especially on the first track - are amazing. All in all a album worth listening with good production and interesting songs.

yknow for punk this is probably as good as it gets

I know this is an iconic album but it's just not my vibe.

Good early punk album. Band's raw energy comes through on the record. 3/5 Might listen again

Mixed tbh

Not my vibe but I appreciate it

I like how much 1970s Britain has to say to 2020s America

There was more to this than just being loud and repetitive, there was some actual talent. Cheers to anarchy in the UK (3.5)

It was fine, but not inspiring.

You know, I’ve always liked Anarchy in the UK from my Guitar Hero days. An album worth of this guy’s vocals is a bit much for me, though.

One of those rare albums that is greater than the sum of its parts. The vocals are terrible, the lyrics are cheesy, then instrumental work is absolutely forgettable, but it all comes together to express an attitude and a sound that is unforgettable.

Taken out of context it doesn't work well for me. It's got a whole song about how they hate some other band. And another one about how they hate their record label. Then a bunch of extremely relevant stuff about the cold war and the monarchy and other socioeconomic woes of the UK at the time. Then some stuff that exists just to be edgy. This belongs in the UK in 1977. Not so much in the US in 2026. Still, credit where credit is due for being so deeply influential. I didn't know about the Sex Pistols until after listening to DIR EN GREY'S Macabre album (2002). The lyrics to "Hydra" are basically just a tribute to "Anarchy in the UK" and was the first time I'd ever heard the words "Sid Vicious". Decades later and half a world away a Japanese metal band proclaims "I wanna' be an anarchist too" (or just "I wanna' be an anarchist"...with Kyo's lack of enunciation it's hard to tell). That's worth something I guess. Thanks everyone for your comments on the album and the Sex Pistols in general. I learned a lot today.

Never been into punk too much but I sort of get this more than most other stuff in the genre

Awful production, though I guess that's the punk spirit.

As expected. Loud, but not bad.

This album rolls along without any real breath being taken. Is this my kind of punk? No Rancid does it better Dead Kennedys do it better Misfits do it better Sure this was groundbreaking. It just doesn’t hold up like it used to I guess. I’ll be fair. I didn’t hate it but it didn’t make me a fan. Choice cut: Anarchy in the auK

The attitude, the speed, the political sensibilities, the nonchalance are all there. Cool early punk. Not sure there is much for me to grab onto though. Not very catchy.

theres a couple classica but i think it really works better as a statement about music than actually listening to it

banger but nothing reeally stands out to me

Lovely band but it felt quite repetitive and more like background music :(

The one thing that popped out to me first about this album is the energy to it all, it is infections to the point where my listen started sitting down but a restlessness came over me and I was all over the place. I understand that this album is considered the birth place (or one of them) of the punk movement and I can hear that in the music but I also fine that some of the production can feel very clean in some places compared to more dirtier punk I have listened to and experienced live. This observation is not necessarily negative because I feel this production style adds to some songs like God save the Queen and Submission but I think I would prefer something more dirty sounding. It is still a solid album but I feel like the performances can be hit or miss track by track. Fav tracks: Holidays in the sun, problems, God save the queen, Anarchy in the UK and Pretty Vacant

Pretty solid … not the biggest fan of punk but see how they influenced a bunch of artists. Liked the instrumentals a lot more than the vocals 3

Favorite track(s): Problems, God Save the Queen, Anarchy in the UK Heard before Previous rating: 7/10

Lead voice gets a bit tiresome late in the album

I never thought I would hear a man sing so aggressively about abortions. the albums...kinda fun....

Classic punk album which still holds up.

Two absolute bangers and the rest is good to OK and that is fine!

This feels like very important lore and I know truly nothing. Just vague names and titles like Sid Viscous and anarchy in the UK. “The album title added to that controversy, with some people finding the word "bollocks" offensive. Many record stores refused to carry it and some record charts refused to list its title, showing just a blank space instead.“ HA Jfc.

Not really my vibe but I fuck with the message 🕊️

Not a fan but I can respect how it inspired other punk bands. Veryyyyy British

bodies & emi are annoying as hell lol eeeee emmmmm eyeeeeeeee!!! that song was about dissing a record studio that dropped them after only 3 months because sex pistols were damaging their reputation. that's kinda cool but jesus christ man lol

Interesting proposition. I may be well past my teenage angst and therefore found the beat and melodies a little grating, but can still appreciate the anti-establishment lyrics and tone unique and innovative. Unlikely to revisit.

I haven’t heard this is forever, and it sounded better than I remembered. I think it helped that I was walking and it was really sunny out.

Pretty unexpectedly good album. Punk rock sounds great and I was never bored during this album. However the songs did start to blur together near the end Songs I liked: holidays in the sun, liar, god save the queen 3.5/5

Loved it, haven't heard it in a while.

Enjoyed this but Rotten is a prick

Short. Alright.

This is the first time I’ve heard it all the way through. Surprisingly tight group on this album. Powerful performances from everybody. 3.8/4.0

You know what, I dig it. Very British. Very British

-- Bodies!

Honestly pretty good. Not my preferred type of lyrics and some songs blended in together/very grunge, but I enjoyed it more than I thought I would

Good punk.

Soon as it started, I was like FUCK YEH!!! THIS IS GREAT!!! 🤟 Took about 5 tracks for me to go, "yeh, it really is this for the album" 🤣 And it is indeed great, but it does all sound the same - there's no variation in the soundscape AT ALL. The things is, if you were listening as a proper leftie at the time, it'd be totally different, but I'm listening as a musician 50 years later, it's not the political statement it would have been, and doesn't hold that nostalgia for me. I get it though, definitely a classic for a reason, just not something I'll be listening to.

Not bad for a manufactured "punk" band

I’m sure this was face melting when it was released and it’s obviously hugely influential, but it all kind of sounds the same after 2-3 songs.

classic punk, big sneer energy, good stuff 💥anarchy in the uk 💥god save the queen

They’re all SO COOL. Such a fun album, one to just scream your lungs out to. Fav song is ‘Anarchy In The UK’.

2025.05.22.

hay mucho para exprimir

Classic punk rock, not great, not bad though.

Punk music is just fine for me and this sounded similar to all the other punk music I’ve heard. A few standout tracks but I’m not chomping at the bit to add to my collection.

lowkey the bodies song was crazy Tops songs god save the queen anarchy in the uk pretty vacant

Ei omaan makuun. Pitää antaa vähän arvostusta koska valtava edelläkävijä omassa genressään. Myös yks menestyneimpiä punk yhtyeitä joten pakko vähän respectaa

Not a bad album per se, just a bit monotonous, imo, when it comes to melody or topics at least... 🙃

Pretty iconic, and pretty typical proper-punk. I never really got over the whole boy-band compositional history of the Sex Pistols as a mythology, nor the hero-worship thing of Sid Vicious. I assume that this sort of capital-P Punk would be right up my alley but I'm afraid The Ramones and The Stooges seem to have done it better. I like Rotten's really brutally-honest vocal delivery and the simplicity of the instrumentation, loud and brash and abrasive as it is, is a huge point in its favor. But it's never clicked. Maybe you just had to be there. Fav tracks: No Feelings,

While the influence of this album can't be denied I do think the musical quality really hasn't stood the test of time when compared to other 70s British punk icons. I really want to rate this higher because of how genre defining it is and how many other bands were inspired by it/them but the music limits it to a 3.

I know its a classic and I appreciate their influence and impact! but those days sounds a bit too pop and tacky for me!

Sounds like more quintessential punk, they have much more of the wild chaotic energy than some others. Based on the difficulty of getting this album made I believe they lived the punk life through and through and understand why they are so known and influential. Still not my genre and not for regular listening.

I enjoyed this one as an album both listening and connecting with my dad over it, who also likes this record. Good tempo, fun for listening at work. Could see myself coming back to it at some point.

I think this another very overrated record. I know that it's one of the big early punk releases but I don't think the Pistols deserve as much credit as they get. I would prefer more people celebrated Buzzcocks, Stiff Little Fingers, and The Clash as royalty more than the Pistols. Another big problem I have is Johnny Rotten grew into the worst version of himself he possibly could have been and I would prefer to not hear about him anymore.

one of the most famous albums of all time and i don't really have much to say

Punk rock!!

While I know the Sex Pistols were a huge influence on punk I think they were completely overrated. It's a decent album and was the blueprint for British punk moving forward but I think the Clash and Damned were much better prototypes and wrote way better music. Whether they were basically a boy band created by a manager or they developed organically they still were a bit shite. Not to mention that John Lydon has proven himself to be a whiny little baby that hasn't been able to put out anything listenable since the Pistols. I would never put this album on but I probably wouldn't turn it off. So maybe just a hair above 3 stars for me.

5.5/10

The Sex Pistols are easy to write off as just provocative oiks, but whilst not as good as the Clash, they still produced great songs. Anarchy and God Save the Queen are classics and lots of the other tracks come close to the same level. However there is a clear drop to filler with tracks like lisr, seventeen and submission, which prevents this album being a classic in its own right.

This has not aged well lyrically or thematically - however, you can still see what the appeal of a band like The Sex Pistols would have been in a late-70s Britain. The 3 classic tracks on this album are the three classics for a reason, with the rest of the album not quite reaching the same level. However, it’s one of the better examples of the punk rock of the era, and is tight in its output.

it’s fun but still sounds like one of the million 70s rock albums from this list. 3.5

better than mid punk

real good

Good, but nothing special

Oh Sex Pistols and you're legacy. Love or hate em they changed music.

Much more listenable then I expected

started out liking it more than at the end. got repetitive real fast

Was okay and more clean than I expected

As much as I appreciate the importance of Punk and that it's not dead, I'm too much of a square for Punk.

verrrry nostalgic

Unfortunately I enjoyed this

decent

I went into this with trepidation. I like punk and am british so should think this is ace, by Lydon has always been such an unrelenting bell end that I've always avoided. What i have heard never really stood out as they seemed shit musically, poor vocally and just a zeitgeist band. However, a listen through the album proves me wrong. The tunes are well written and have great hooks. This isnt just 2 singles and then filler, it's is consistent and high quality. Sure they thrash their instruments and lydon snarls but it does work. I'm not about to pierce my nose and wear safety pins, but i've learnt something.

I don't like this record as much as Bob Geldof does, but I recognize how important it is.
