Reviews (page 5 of 13)

This album is equivalent nursing a nice, cool drink in your hands as you watch the sunset on a beautiful beach whose name you can't pronounce. And somewhere between the fading moon and palm leaves, you see a woman walk wearing a skirt that moves to the rhythm of the sea. You're not sure if she's walking towards you or walking right past you. But it doesn't matter as the weight of the evening's breeze settles over your closing eyes.

Really enjoyed this one. Great listen on a cloudy unsettled day. A real mood lifter. That said, in terms of musical styles this would never be super high on my rotation.

This was the first time I gave a serious chance to bossa nova, and I can say that it was a great experience! While it still is not my cup of tea, I really enjoyed it nonetheless and definitely see the appeal of the genre as a whole. The mellow guitar draws you in and makes you want to stay for the slow, yet exciting ride.

Solid 7 I like this :) was very nice. Not very often I get to music that I can just describe as “nice”

Very good, saved

This is very good. "The Girl From Ipanema" is a classic, a song that makes you travel. Overall, this is in the range of 4 stars. Other songs I enjoyed: "Para Machuchar Meu Coraçao", "Desafinado" or "O Grande Amor".

Pretty chill. Fav track is obviously the original “The girl from Ipanema”, such an influential piece. “Corcovado” is also peak.

4/5. Very good bit of Bossa Nova. the highlight for me is the production, the whole record sounds like you’re in a small cafe listening to these songs live, giving it a very intimate and easygoing feel. Plus Getz’s tenor sax playing pairs extremely well with Gilberto’s gentle guitar. The biggest highlight for me is the album opener (and its biggest hit) “The Girl from Ipanema” which features two singers trading verses around and some great, but gentle solos.

Jazzy and fun, good forbwork

This is #day678 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and… much like the previous Stan Getz record, which I got almost exactly a year ago, I find this thoroughly enjoyable. Just what the doctor prescribed on this June evening through my Technics SU-7300. "The Girl from Ipanema" has to be the perfect cocktail jazz tune. Breezy as a summer wind. This is a 4 out of 5. Looking forward to #day679.

muy bueno mal clasiqu8dimo nashe

Bossa nova starter pack. 4.0/5

Actually a pretty good listen, jazzy, fun and light

What a loving album. What a self loving sound. I showered, danced, moisturized. I smell of roses. —— Poem —— Getz/Gilberto Stan Getz+João Gilberto Cashmere spills drips into the drink which glassmouth I rim with my fingers skim Pelvises twist to the trough and crest of moon wave wisp among clefs and sheets Rose water puddles upon the stream mirror the self as I crawl in his bed

Played a morning round of Boggle whilst listening to this and it soundtracked perfectly.

#970. This is spy movie music, and I will not be explaining myself further. 4/5: I said I would not be explaining myself further. Good day, sir.

Very mild and enjoyable

quite literally a short indie romance film in spain or brazil loved the first song

haven't finished it yet (i keep getting busy inbetween listening sessions) BUT i do love this kind of jazz, i've only ever heard something close to this when listening to easy lovers by piero, would definitely get into more when i have time

So smooth

I liked this. I found it to be very relaxing.

Let's get lounge-y!

Really nice, was familiar with this one from the good ole youtube algorithm. Was pulled in with the beautiful album art (wish more albums used this sort of art for the cover...) Cocktail, Java music if you ask me. A little too one note to be anything more than that. But again, really nice, perfectly pleasant. Also how do you say this guys last name, its it Getz, Jetz, Hetz?!? My guess is on Jetz.... I guess I could google it, but whatever... maybe I'll do it later.

Bossa Nova is one of those genres that does next to nothing for me, but this one definitely one of the better ones. Would I listen to this again? Probably not, but I wouldn't turn it off if it came on again. A very chill album, but a lot of the songs sound the same. Low 4.

Soothing listen, girl from impenada is a great song, rest of the album was in Spanish which is harder to listen to with intent

No song that I disliked, a few standouts: Ipanema (obviously), Para Muchachar, and Corcavado

Very soothing, and very easy to get into

4 out of 5. Damn this was one smooth album.

fav song - corcovado least fav song - só danço samba loved the vibe of this album, even though every song is so similar to each other. very calming

i really liked it, feels soo relaxing and fresh. i feel like a fake brazillian for not having listened to it before. esse album me faz sentir como se eu estivesse em uma praia em uma noite quente, incrivel como musicas assim te acalmam.

I'm not into bossa nova but this album is fire !!

Easy listening, very relaxing, couple of classics on here. Good listen.

A great jazz album for relaxing.

That was really pleasant to listen to. I'd listen again.

The Girl From Impenada is iconic and I love the copious amount of sax in this album so I’m inclined to give this one a pretty good rating

Money is tight right now. I had to cull through my record collection and find the things I don't mind parting with. It was hard sometimes, but I came out with about 70, and I've spent the evening listing them all on Discogs. While doing this, I was listening to Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots...until this album was generated for me. And wow, this is just lovely. It's pretty samey, a few of the songs sound pretty similar, but we're lucky that the vibe across the whole album is so beautiful. It's sweet, it's just so damn adorable and charming. I want to meet The Girl From Ipanema. It made me feel a lot better while combing through my record collection.

Oh yeah. Definitely familiar with Girl from Impanena, great tune. The rest of this was also excellently chill. Drop the needle on this and sip something crisp and bubbly in the sunshine. Hell yeah.

Laid back music made for the setting sun.

João Gilberto's voice is amazing and his interpretation of some of Tom Jobim's best and most famous compositions is great. I'm not as stoked as the world seemed to be at the time with Astrud Gilberto's parts but it might be my bias as a native portuguese speaker to just prefer the original. The mastering is a bit strange, the sax can get really in your face all of a sudden, especially compared to the airy singing of the Gilberto's and the gentle guitar chords. Not the last time listening to this classic!

cool tipo jazz portugués?brasilero? De fondo diver

Perfect for summer nights, love the vibe

Top 3 🌟 1- The Girl from Impanema 2- Doralice 3- Corcovado (la intro es especial, sólida)

super darr

At worst, this is the best background music album ever made. At best, this one of the best bossa nova albums ever made. I like bossa nova. 4.5/5

jazz saxxxxxxxx

this album sounds like when you get a hot black milk tea with brown sugar on a day that starts rainy but then the sun comes out and all the plants look extra green and lush and life feels worth living favourite song: Para Machuchar Meu Coracao into Desafinado into Corcovado = heaven

A classic bossa nova album from two of the best to ever do it. No notes or complaints

I wish I could understand the lyrics. What I liked the most was the vibe I think. Its so chill, its so relaxing and peacefull. Yet, it was never boring for me. Why does it has to be so short 😭 Probably the best album Ive discovered from this book. So far.

Man this is a smooth album. Super chill and relaxing. Like you put this on at fancy dinner party smooth. It's really good. Reminds me of a bookstore I used to shop at. It really is a lovely album.

Smooth and silky Brazilian jazz perfect for a cocktail party or lounge.

Blessing elevators in film and real life like since this came out, this album sets a vibe. It's not music I'd ever really listen to, but it is relaxing and and gentle to star the day will or listen to at the beach, pool, or over a cocktail.

Great chill vibe, loved the sax tone

Love the 3-day run of Springsteen-Fela Kuti-this. Really living up the saxophone! This is probably my favorite in that regard. I absolutely all the space the sax is given to be light and airy. The dynamics of it really show how great the range of timbres is. Love some Bossa Nova and almost never listen to it. This is gonna be on repeat quite a bit.

Adam hucky (funky butt brass) demanded we all learn girl from ipanema on what instrument we could at SWIC. I do not remember how to play it. Bombay club in nola flashblacks. Piano player and woman singing in a black dress.

The entire album slaps, but I enjoyed particularly Gilberto's voice and the sax in The Girl From Impanema and Corcovado. Never really listened to this genre, but damn if it isn't a vibe. Tingles on the scalp and in my ribs.

4.5/5. Very enjoyable especially when you’re driving and want to vibe out instead of thinking of the horrors of the world.

Wonderful bossa nova album. Fun to listen to during a pool party or quiet brunch. Great vocals, wonderful instrumentals, and solid composition bring this album together. I will acknowledge that the songs often blended together, but I didn’t really mind it.

A very pleasant album to chill out to, the only complaint is that the songs are repetitive.

Very cool jazz sound

Take your 4 and go

It’s jazz. Sax jazz. If that Benny Goodman piano, drum, and woodwind style with occasional vocals isn’t for you, this would be a tough listen. Thankfully, that is for me. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I've learned that I actually quite enjoy the vibes of Bossa Nova. This album is no different.

Super soothing. Just easy jazz. Not something I'll find myself listening to too often, but I can see where people would love it

Superb performance. A bit samy but what the same is is so fun to listen to. Will definitely come back to this.

This isn't the first time that I have listened to this album, and I still really like this combination of bossa nova and jazz. It's definitely a record that I will listen to again.

So fun to listen to the rest of this album!!

A classic

I feel the need to put on loafers and linen pants and sip espresso in some south american cafe. This was a fun listen. Laid back for sure. I like the voices and the overall tone. 5/7/26

very sexy

That's what that song is!

This was delightful! It went by so quick! I really like this. Pleasant and fun. Good walking around music.

Slow, relaxing bossa nova. Males me sleepy if I’m not doing something else.

I’m a sucker for a light, Latin, lounge kind of vibe. Great album for the right mood. The Girl From Ipanema is an all-timer. Getz sounds tremendous. Top track: Girl From Ipanema.

Loved this album. It was catchy and easy to listen to all day long 4.5 stars

Slick and sexy.

Very smooth caliming and pretty. I recommend for doing homework or using as kinda a kind of soothing backround noise! Definitely recommend!

Every genre has a defining classic and this is the one for bossa nova, a genre I would've never considered without 1001

I really enjoyed this. Thought it was very nice to have on while I was working today. A lot of the tracks felt quite similar so I struggled to pick a favourite and least favourite, but I did really like it. Sent my friend an angry voice note earlier and then this started playing afterwards which I thought was quite funny. Fav song: Para Machuchar Meu Coracao Least fav: Doralice

Perfect sunny weather album. Love the songs with Astrud on them- musically the three of them work so so well together, although interpersonally (and financially) I think Astrud deserved much better than what they put her through. Favourite song: The Girl From Ipanema Least: O Grande Amor

It turned out to be such a peaceful and sweet album—you know, like those moments in France when you’re walking along, breathing in the fresh air, looking up at the sky with your headphones on, and all you want is for no one to talk to you as you head to a café. It sounds ridiculous, but that’s really what I picture: peace and calm set to music.

Immaculate vibes 4/5

the girl in Ipanema - such a gorgeous melody, my favorite💕

Smooth Bossa Nice.....drift away

Amazing album, i wasn't expecting it to be that good.

I have no doubt this was a very influential album in the world of Bossa Nova and Jazz. And I kinda enjoyed it. But I'm also way, way over Girl From Ipanema le. Still giving it 4 stars because it was at least different.

Lovely Friday morning listen. Understated and ageless.

On an untypical drizzly Friday in Cyprus I found myself in a rut. I'd driven into town, done the weekly shop, been for a walk and gone to the gym, each time the soundtrack to these tasks felt painfully familiar. While I love the way that Spotify has integrated itself into my daily life, for some reason today I became acutely aware of the lack of real variety in the music they present to you as the listener. Once they have a feel for your taste and you've listened to a few tracks, the algorithms that power this particular platform work to keep you listening as long as possible. Often this results in what feels like the same handful of songs showing up constantly. While this isn't necessarily a bad thing, it has more than once made me feel pigeon-holed into listening to certain songs or genres. I stumbled across this website and the premise seems to be exactly what I'm looking for in the moment in time. A means of expanding my musical horizons, while scratching that itch I have for rating things. I'm looking forward to listening to different music daily and reflecting on it. This is the first album I was presented and my thoughts are below. Getz/Gilberto started strong with one of my favourite songs "The Girl From Ipanema" and really kept the momentum throughout. I listened to this album while I was in the shower and cooking my tea, and I feel that the music lends itself well to this part of my day. There is a sway to each track that is punctuated by some saxophone work that would make Bleeding Gums Murphy proud. Other notable tracks included "Doralice" and "Corcovado", and while there the majority of the lyrics (that are sang in Portuguese) where lost on me, the instrumentals are really what made this album great for me. Relaxing while not slow. Energetic while not frantic. Smooth while not sterile. A fantastic start from a fantastic album.

I love Stan Getz en Joao Gilberto, I love bossa nova!

Summer 22’ i was introduced to Brazilian jazz/ bossa nova, this was one of the first albums i visited. really shaped my ear. feels like sunshine and flowers blooming.

Loved the flowey jazz, felt like a nice breeze that move to dance, and makes the world quite and makes me fell relaxed. Not my usual type of music, but I rlly enjoyed it.

Just ask The Girl from Ipanema, she will recommend this to you.

the "girl from ipanema" album!! very beautiful jazz with funky beats and smooth saxophone

I loved this album, very nice Latin jazz. I will say that I will and will never be a fan of albums that repeat songs on them. Aretha Franklin did it as well and I just think it’s outright lazy so they can fill their criteria of minutes in an album. But the music is so good it’s still a 4, one of the most chill albums to me.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ very moody

Well that was real nice 9/10

nice calm relaxing bossanova

like I get why this genre became the default elevator music /pos Girl from impena is so good

A very pleasant listen. Not something I normally would have picked for myself but it was very relaxing.

I have yet to encounter a bad jazz album in this experience so far. This is like a perfect album to listen to early morning/late at night. This is not a 2pm on a Tuesday record. Very smooth and very chill. I can appreciate how none of the songs feel like they over stay their welcome. Especially since the album can start to feel one note at times and its what, I think, keeps this record from being higher than a 4/5.

Hey, it's this cafe music album

This one came dangerously close to being time and place music, similar to a lot of the samba, bossa nova, and Indian music I've gotten. But it has a kinda, chill cocktail jazz vibe to it that I'm really enjoying. Great album, if a little repettitive.

I liked this more than I expected. Crazy amounts of texture on everything it sounded like I was in the room with them. The songs were simple but engaging and didn't overstay their welcome Low 4

Nice and easy smooth jazz that was quite relaxing to listen to even if it sounded a bit like elevator music. 7/10

Might just be the most chill album ever. It's the soundtrack to chilling on a brazilian beach on a quiet, sunny day. The vocals are soft and mellow and blend with the laid back, jazzy instrumentation to create a feeling of pure bliss. I don't understand a word, but it's all so soothing and calming.

Probably one of the most important bossa album of all time. Cannot be called the best but I'm always happy to listen to it again and again.

This was a fun listen, but bossa nova is no longer a fad, and I think part of the initial charm was the newness of that sound. At this point, it's a well done jazz / bossa nova collaboration and a classic but not something I would say still sets the world on fire.

An iconic brazillian album. A solid 4/5.

Chill and lovely

Feels criminal to listen to this while its cold outside

L: 8 M:9 F: 7 O:8

fav songs: the girl from ipanema para machuchar meo coração desafinado corcovado (quiet nights of quiet stars) laidback, smooth, moody 75/100

Really smooth, a great listen. Actually sounds much more modern than you’d think, in a kind of “lo-fi jazz” way. “Girl From Ipanema” is a classic. Sometimes I feel unable to connect with jazz records, but I really liked this. The kind of record I want to get on vinyl to impress my house guests.

Relaxing, chilling- yes this is all those. Just a pleasant feel. Great music. 4 Star

very chill background music, did not understand a word

No idea what was said, but I kinda liked this. Thought there’d be more saxophone based on the description. 4/5

Sax tones front and husky. Chordal rhythmic strums. Almost invisible backbeat. Lyrics I’ll never understand. Possibly the whitest album ever recorded. Sparse and somehow magical. Rainy Sunday morning coffee music. It’s not going into rotation but I’m glad I spent time with it.

THE classic of latina music. One of my favorite. I love it a lot

This my shit

Insanely surprised with this pull. Not basic elevator music jazz like I was expecting. This is super cozy, intimate feeling jazz. It almost feels like the folkier stuff I listen to from the 60’s-70’s. Insanely easy listening & doesn’t drag. Astrud Gilberto brings the perfect vibe to balance the songs out, and keep everything from feeling repetitive. Idk how to explain it, but this album just makes me feel at home. Miles Davis watch out. I think I enjoy this one even more

I think this is worth hearing, it can get a little monotonous to be actively listening all of the way through but I don't think that is really the intention with this album.

Really relaxing

I've heard some of the more famous tracks before, but had no idea who it was or what kind of music it would be. I love it!

Very groovy summery vibes, very much enjoyed. 4/5. Definitely an album for the kitchen, early morning or late at night, hits the spot.

As a disclaimer, I’m not too familiar with the jazz-esque genres. Neither do I speak Portuguese. I enjoyed it though, moved me to a local tropical cafe where no worries matter. Reminded me of fado here and there. Elegant enough , yet not-so-much of the elevator music” as some say. Overall 4/5, will definitely come back to it on a summer day! Elegant jazz that could be a soundtrack to Narcos or any other latino screenplay. TGFI was pleasant calm Wait, the 2nd author is Brazilian, I thought it sounded a bit like Fado or like things Kiedrynski plays during his programs. Not my kind of music but I enjoined it.

Lovely

Smooth

Jazzy, smooth, chill, calming

Do Brasil

For jazz, really good

bardzo intymny, wyobrażałam sobie parę kochanków tańczących w kuchni

Thoroughly relaxing Fave track: Girl from Ipanema

So nice. A boring descriptive word but this album really is so nice. 4/5

Loved it !

Perfect album to listen to on a sunny day :)

It just hit about the right place and right time - late evening as I was winding down my day. I definitely enjoyed!

Sweepy

Delightfully pleasant.

I swore when this popped up we’d already done it. But it turns out we’ve done both artists individually. And yeah they sound great together.

The only way I could describe this album is that its focus on jazz, RNB and over all soul like music (nor sure if I'm saying it right) is very well. Its the music you would hear in a coffee shop while studying hanging out sort of like Lo-fi. Best way to describe it overall as Jazz and Lo-fi. Its great when concentrating on a big test, or during finals week where you really got to lock in. Theres 10 songs and while I didn't add all of them to my liked playlist some of my favorite standouts were The Girl from ipanema I wasn't enjoying this one until the saxaphones and supporting vocals hit. Its a great beginning to an album setting the exact tone of what you'll get. Para Muchuchar mer cacou and desafindo The saxaphones were amazing This album fits the right mood, enjoyable, and overall perfect for studying or a late night drive or some peace. Yet I wouldn't really know what other context the music would still play or mabye a difference in taste. I'd give it 7/10 for replayability and a 7/10 for enjoyablility

Loved this! I think I've heard The Girl From Ipanema before. 4/5

Hey honey, Candles are lit, steaks are done, lights down low and the cab franc is open and ready to pour. One sec just have to put on this album.

lovely little album!

That 60s Brazil sound is just so chill. It's easy listening at its finest. Adding Stan Getz to the mix is a chef's kiss.

Cruisy, pleasant. Great cafe music.

The only bossa nova album that most people have

Bossa Nova doesn't Getz better than this!

An essential bossa-nova jazz album. Wonderful, with a warm and heartfelt playing.

miam jazzy martini

Super cite and chill album.

4/5 great bossa nova calm n vibes

Excellent bossa nova, could listen to this all day in the sun.

Lekker luisteren hoor

Chillig, nix einzuwenden

Very enjoyable. Quintessential samba. Great guitar by Gilberto, and Getz's saxophone brings in a classic jazz element that is timeless. I really enjoyed the tracks sung by Astrud Gilberto, particularly "Corcovado."

9 / 10

ta muy boneto waaa muy chill me encanta

This was a calm vibe!

This project has made me aware of the bossa nova genre, which I’m very grateful for. This was so mellow and soothing, very nice to have on in the background.

nice South American sound to this ...very relaxing and some great 🎷

I enjoyed this album, though it’s not my favorite genre….it starts to all sound the same to me after a while (which depending on the listener can be said about any genre, honestly) But I enjoyed the jazzy interplay between instruments and the horn sound was fantastic. I also thought Astrud Gilberto’s vocal work was beautiful. I wasn’t familiar with any of her work save for ‘Iponema’ but am inclined to seek out some of her other works.

Perfect album to start a day with So calming Feels like the summer sunshine on your cheeks

Sunday morning vibes

Like any other poser, this is basically the only bossa nova album I've got any real amount of familiarity with, even though it's definitely not the only one I've heard. Worse still, I basically just know Girl from Ipanema! Seriously though, I love how bossa nova guitars sound so much, and I really ought to fill the blind spots in my knowledge.

oh, my friends, i have been converted. Samba is incredible and I love it. Girl from Ipanema is, of course, a classic, but I also really enjoyed Doralice. LOVE that they have girl from ipanema twice I could have sworn I had just looped to the beginning of the album again. very silly. it's all just so rhythmically satisfying!! theyve made me a bossa nova kid..

Smooth, very tropical, brings to mind a very distinctive vibe and point in time. Has a vintage quality that feels instantly familiar. Somewhat prone to being background music though, could have a bit more meatiness somehow?

My first previously unheard discovery on the list. I will be going back to this one

so romantic and lovely

Sounds absolutely incredible in the 5 series. Unlike other albums of this genre this one plays really mellow and unfolds slowly - I could see myself playing this from time to time. 4/5

Light and lovely tunes, I love this record!

Nice, chill jazz-samba with the samba smash hit. And it clocks in at unde 40 minutes. Chef's kiss!

This was a nice exposure to some music I wouldn't have thought I liked. It's fun, good background music for kicking around cleaning the house or cooking.

Short but quality. Good music for chores.

Nice to listen to album, although maybe a bit too much easy listening, holding it back from the perfect marks. 4/5

Das perfekte working on a rainy Sunday Album.

TALL AND TAN AND YOUNG AND LOVELY🗣🗣 THE GIRL FROM IPANEMA GOES WALKING💞✨️ 5/5 Do I need to say more? Jk jk 3.8/5 because atleast some pieces dont stand out to me and sound like ever other jazz song and I DONT LIKE JAZZ

groovy

Mysig klassik Jazz

very easy listening, great for background while working or dining. Inoffensive in the extreme, very gentle

I very much like this soft jazz

Enjoyable and pleasant album. The woman who sings on some of the songs (who I learned is Astrud Gilberto) has one of the greatest voices I've ever heard--up there it Ella Fitzgerald.

One song we all know, but the rest are surprisingly good and very chilled out.

7.81/10

Um clássico, João Gulberto é um patrimônio cultural brasileiro. Lindas músicas, vozes e arranjos.

Yasssss this is a bit of me. Warm summer morning

Silky smooth. Found a genre of jazz I can get behind thanks to this list 7 / 10

Was dancing in my kitchen.

What a vibe! So gentle! Does any particular track stand out? Not particularly. Yet, I am nonetheless transported.

:dancing_couple_emoji:

Lovely stuff. Pretty perfect bossa.

Extraordinarily rich in feeling. His voice is such a textured instrument, every word tells a story.

*the* bossa nova album. Easy listening, doesn’t feel groundbreaking but that’s with 60 years of musical tradition building upon it

Back to back saxophone perfection!! Favorite Track: The Girl From Ipanema

Nice laidback Bossa vibes

album de "the girl from ipanema", todas muy agradables, tranquilas, buena musica, 4/5

First song told me exactly what I was in for, and had no idea this was who made that iconic song. Really really enjoyed this. So relaxing and just easy to listen to. When you dig in you find this mastery of saxophone being played in such a subtle way yet without a single flaw. I might have to buy this album

4 stars

very lovely and soothing but also i think i've been irreconcilably socialized to think of bossa nova as "nice coffee shop music" unless it's doing something really abrasive or out there.

Dude, gorgeous. Its bubbly and gentle. You can throw this on at any time, have a coffee, smoke something, good clear your mind album and its timeless. Romantic but in an old classy way.

Cool as hell

Chill album. Feels like a cooking playlist. Jazzy dark restaurant

amo el jazz y brasil

Cool Jazz, Cool Cover João be seducing me over here like wtf??

Gorgeous. I was already familiar with about half of the songs, but it's nice to hear the whole album.

Couple of really solid songs on there. Laid back vibe.

A classic genre defining album. Something I listen to to relax especially on car journeys

I love jazz with all my heart

A good fusion of classic jazz and latin beats. I liked it although I would have to be in the right mood for it. Of course, this album could just put me in the right mood.

Before: I recognize the name. I'm thinking some form of jazz from the 50's, maybe? During: Oh, "The Girl from Ipanema". Of course I recognize that, a solid five. This should be a enjoyable listen. 5 The Girl From Ipanema 4 Doralice 3 Para Machucar Meu Coracao = To Hurt My Heart 3 Desafinado 4 Corcovado 3 So Danco Samba (Jazz Samba) 3 O Grande Amor 4 Vivo Sohando After : Average = 3.6, I'll round up to 4. This is not how I usually do this but I'm feeling generous. Can't say I'd go out of my way to listen to this again but it was enjoyable. If it weren't for "The Girl from Ipanema", it'd be a 3.

A delight of a listen. Makes me feel fancy and rich, like I’m eating cheese from a charcuterie board at a grown-up dinner party.

I’m going to celebrate all the Bossa Nova on this list because I’m not convinced there’s enough (they certainly did Herb Alpert dirty by snubbing him). “The Girl From Ipanema” and “Corcovado” are two of the most recognizable Bossa Nova tracks in existence and these versions may be THE versions… “So nice you get ‘em twice!” A must-buy record for your cocktail party record collection.

nice!! second stan getz album i feel like a fan now. loved the female vocals and the jazz

So incredibly good. Really soothing. Easy to listen to.

Really liked it! Very groovy

I like João, it's hard to look elsewhere when you're in a Bosa Nova mood. I really enjoy O Grande Amor off this one, but it strangely is the least listened to song off the album on spotify. Most often, if I am in a Bosa Nova-y mood, I look to Clube da esquina which is more influenced by more contemporary folk. 4/5 for G&G.

This is one I love! 4/5

Really enjoyable listen!!! Gorgeous instrumentals and gorgeous vocals as well.

‘Aaahhhhhh, that’s where’s that song is from’ type of album. Really calming tho

Nice light Bossa Nova. Almost too light and chill.

Perfect background music. Warm, fun, unobtrusive.

I've never really listened to musch jazz, or Bosa Nova in particular, so this album was very new to me. It kept my attention, and was interesting musically. For me to think that as a rock/metal fan must mean it's pretty good.

Very good 4.25

Again knew only one song, but the rest was not what I expected. The blend of jazz and bossa nova is beautiful and there were many tracks I actually enjoyed more than The Girl From Ipanema. I really loved the instrumentation as well as the vocals which sometimes switched from song to song. Groovy stuff and very chill vibes.

Albums like this are the reason why I started this project, I love as pleasantly surprised by this one.

Fantastic album. So smooth and killer. I would listen to this on repeat!

Very good English renditions of bossa nova classics. Astrud Gilberto’s voice is incredible and the arrangements are very good. Smooth and carry the music well. They also take interesting production choices here like hard panning the vocals to the right which gives it a beautiful air of nostalgia. You probably need to listen to some more Bossa Nova then just this but let’s say four stars.

An essential jazz and bossa nova masterpiece. A delightful listen for the first time but many have probably heard the opening track on its own before.

Lovely listen, samba and jazz

Obvious Iconic album. I love the story of Getz’s friend going to Brazil with Tomy Bennet, learning what Bosa Nova was and bringing it back to the states to then have a huge impact on the music industry and bringing jazz back as popular after the start of Rock n roll in 1960. I love how good the album feels in its simplicity.

My only experience with bossa nova music is knowing the Girl from Ipanema like basically everyone else in the world and using the bossa nova setting on the funky little 1970s drum machine I own. Overall, this album feels like a great introduction to bossa nova music. It was an enjoyable and very fun listen, but I felt it was a bit repetitive near the end and was maybe a bit too easy listening at times. Luckily, it really doesn't overstay its welcome at all.

Laid back but captivating. Sparse but warm. Great album.

Chill jazz to vibe and bop to. A little softer than my preference but I dig it.

This was a vibe. Felt like dinner parties, cafes and backgrounds.

I really like it. Of all of the new to me albums so far, this one is definitely out on again and add to rotation.

this album feels like sitting on a small balcony on a warm sunday morning, drinking coffee, smoking a cigarette and feeling like carrie bradshaw.

Yeah siiir

Really pleasant bossa nova album. I loved listening to this, happy this one came up on this list.

It was pretty groovy

No idea the album is from the 60s, a nice change of vibe for the day

Very pleasant. A bit redundant.

Chill and fun

Very nice jazz listening. Would own this album and have it for jazzy morning listening!

It sounds like warm breezy beach days and nights in the lounge

Absolutely love jazz. Absolutely love Portuguese. What a treat to listen to Brazilian Jazz. The dominance of the saxophone in the majority of songs is a delight. Slow enough to have as background music; fast enough to dance the night away with a partner. Top Songs: 1. O Grande Amor 2. Doralice 3. So Danco Samba

One of those, artists that i've never heard of, but of course, wrote a song that everyone knows: The Girl From Ipanema. I have no idea how or why this song became so popular. This album is credited as the best Bossa Nova albums of all time and one of the best selling jazz albums of all time. Bossa Nova is basically very slow samba and usually has jazz elements added. I pretty much know nothing about samba or bossa nova or jazz.......but I think any movie that has a dim jazz bar scene is playing this music in the background. The music just sounds perfect for high class, dim jazz club environments. I can appreciate this album has it's place and it's incredibly niche, but when you're in the right environment and mood, it really hits. Put this on for date night at your house and you're golden.

A truly calming and peaceful album that took me by surprise with how much I actually like it. I will definitely be coming back to this playlist for reading and if I ever just want something that will just ground me and make me feel just a little bit better :)

Doralice- I like the non-lexical vocals. Got a bit of rhythm, makes me dance a little with it. Feels expensive and very jazzy. 5/5 Para Machuchar Meu coracao- bit more laid back. Nice piano. Feels like I’m at an expensive restaurant, however I would not pay much attention to this song if it came on. Makes me sleepy, kinda boring. 3/5 Desafinado- more focus on vocal. Nice precision and piano. Gets a bit boring and repetitive. However, is a nice song to listen to. 3.5/5 Corcovado(quiet night of quiet stars)- sets a very clear vibe. However, other songs in the album also achieve this and more. Missing something. Cannot see myself listening to again. Nice sax. 2/5 Corcovado (quiet nights of quiet stars)- bit confused why there is 2 called the same. This one is a little better I like the female singing at the start a bit more. Saxophone comes in a bit stronger. Nothing spectacular. 2.5/5 So dance samba- has a lot more potential. Needs something more to give it the push over edge. Good guitar. Nice percussion. Sax is doing some nice things, getting a bit more creative/expressive. 4/5 The girl from Ipanema (just Stan Getz)- I like the non-lexical vocals at the start. Vocals have nice accents and fit rhythm nicely. Satisfying saxophone pick up of melody. 4.5/5 The girl from Ipanema( more artist)- vocals slay at start. Shorter- the right amount to make it enjoyable (doesn’t get boring but gives everything it should). Piano is cool. Vocals and saxophone together (heterophonic texture) is satisfying. 5/5 O grande amor- makes me want to sleep. Got a romantic feel. Too much saxophone. Mid vocals. Definitely a jazz sound. 2.5/5 Vivo Sonhando- nice melody. Would pick when looking for a jazz piece. Percussion and guitar carrying. Sax is soothing and not boring/sleepy. 4/5

Annars nice

This one grows on you. First listen I was a little disappointed, but second listen (in a coffee shop while working on things) it was the perfect vibe. Chill, fresh sounding, brings instant relaxation. It just feels… warm? No other way to describe it sonically. Makes you feel warm and cozy. The Girl from Ipanema is of course a classic. Other favorites are “Só Danço Samba,” “Doralice,” and “Para Machucar Meu Coracao”

good, jazzy fun different from what i like.

I don’t reach for jazz instinctively when seeking music but maybe i should

Album No. 0112 on my list. I had never heard of Stan Getz before, or any of his collaborators for that matter. But obviously I had known “The Girl From Ipanema”. That song is indeed the best song to me on this album, because it’s so catchy. But the other songs do hold up as well. It’s really a good album. I don’t know the first thing about bossa nova and have only little knowledge about Jazz, but I can definitely see why this is a seminal record for the bossa nova genre. Very good listen! I’ll add “Corcovado (Quiet Nights Of Quiet Stars)”, and “Desafinado” to my playlist as well. I think I’ll listen to the whole thing again pretty soon, I’m glad that I discovered this through the 1001 album list. 4/5 stars.

Jazz. Nice 3.75

I liked this one :). I’ve been getting into jazz and funnily enough Spanish jazz as well, so this is actually perfect. I already knew one of the songs haha: the girl from Ipanema. Would rate a 8/10.

Chill, remind me of erasmus in Portugal

Lovely jazz album. Add to library. Suitable for a slow afternoon/evening.

Was ok

The Girl From Ipanema: 4.5/5 Doralice: 4/5 Para Machuchar Meu Coração: 4.5/5 Desafinado: 4.5/5 Corcovado (Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars): 4.5/5 Só Danço Samba: 4/5 O Grande Amor: 5/5 Vivo Sonhando: 4/5 Verdict: 4/5. One of the most pleasant albums I've ever listened to.

Loved it

Amo João Gilberto!

This was good. I thought it was my 2nd Joao Gilberto album but the latiny album Sinatra did was with Antonio Carlos Jobim. It's just both these albums have Girl From Ipanema. What a great song. Yeah these are some chill, loungey, jazzy, Brazilian vibes.

Pleasant Jazz to put in background. Yeah, it's kind of elevator or lounge music, but I like it.

Had me levitating as I would be in Europe. A pleasant listen

Pleasant, chill. Good background music for pure vibing. I thought some of it sounded the same, but i also dont listen to bossa nova.

Listen to more bossa nova when you have nothing particular in mind Best = The girl from Ipanema (2nd ver) Skip = Desafinado

Chill vibes. Loved this one for an evening over dinner

Calm, relaxing, bossonova style. Enjoyable listening. 8/10 Would listen again

Perfect mellow vibes. Great dinner music

Very good to study to
