Reviews (page 7 of 13)

A really strong album and I just love their overall sound. Not quite 5-star level but it’s close.

Like the style of this. Easy listening and kind of like the doors

Pretty good

Very enjoyable! Love Time of the Season! It's a GOAT. This album is full of fun little songs that I can't help but like. 4/5

This has like Beatles and Chicago vibes. Also, the foresight to close with Time of the Season - brilliant. They must have known that was an instant classic.

Very Beatles-esque.

What a pleasant surprise, fresh and bright and charming. "Changes" and "I Want Her She Wants Me" are just lovely – Bach-y and Beach Boys-esque. But the whole disc is classy and lush chamber pop. And it's a clear indictment of the music business that artists such as the Z's here only feel free to do their best work having decided to quit the industry. The hit may be the weakest, least interesting (if only because the most familiar) song of the bunch.

Very solid record

Cover 6/10 Care Of Cell 44 - 7/10 A Rose For Emily - 3/10 Maybe After He`s Gone - 8/10 Beechwood Park - 8/10 Brief Candles - 5/10 Hung Up On A Dream - 4/10 Changes - 7,5/10 I Want Her She Wants Me - 8/10 This Will Be Our Year - 5/10 Butcher`s Tale - 6/10 Friends of Mine - 5/10 Time of the Season - 6,5/10 Insgesamt: 4 Sterne

still sound fresh. Reminds me of Pet Sound

Kinda meh in many places, although enjoyable enough with a shock at the end (Time of the Season) that brings it up a notch!

Showing that the Zombies were always more than "She's Not There". Although if that was all they done that would still be more than a lot of bands!

Ok. Saved by the final song Time of the Season

Not a bad song, 3.5

Fun listen. Only one familiar song. I'd like to listen to this with my dad. Favorite Track: This Will Be Our Year

The feeling of tie-dying a t-shirt. Reflect the psychedelic movement happening at the time, with similarities to to the beach boys. Vey cool.

Gorgeous

This was an ok album, not sure why I'd never heard it before. Rather nice hippy vibes

Reminded me of queen

Love this album

Listens: 2 Enjoyed: yeah Nice chilled out vibe - got me excited for Barbecue weather

Sounds like a pre-requisite to Queen. The layered vocals, strings and keys, and the overall psych rock vibe sounds ahead of its time. It's also short and sweet; a lot of records wear out their welcome but this one comes in, does its job in just over 30 minutes, and then leaves you wanting more. A really cool discovery! Standout tracks are A Rose for Emily, Beechwood Park, This Will Be Our Year, and Time of the Season.

Cute. Enjoyable. Good even. Surprisingly very varied. There's your classic psychedelic pop of course, but then there are also some almost gothic-sounding tracks which is pretty damn impressive for '68. "Butcher's Tale" is a super eerie song that wouldn't be out of place on a Nico album and it's sandwiched between two happy poppy love songs. I like when albums do that. Certainly better than having to hear one guy strumming three chords on his acoustic guitar and singing about "lovin' in Tennessee, ridin' on a horse with my missus" in the same tone for 50 minutes. Ain't that right Wilco. I might have gotten a bit sidetracked.

Very good album

It's hard to listen to this and not imagine you're in some Wes Anderson film. I love Wes Anderson films, they seem to defy time and have a wholesome, yet irregular feel to them. I get the same feeling when listen to Odessey and Oracle. Also, Time of the Season is terribly overplayed... I've deducted a star for that one.

Cool album. Kinda forward for 1968

A psychedelic Beatles with a little beach boys.

The story of the Zombies is a lot stranger than I would have ever anticipated. They essentially released two albums and then broke up, despite the fact that those albums produced hit songs and were each massively influential. It's a lot like the band Television, minus the radio hits. This album was very cool to hear. It's not mind-blowing or anything, but it doesn't sound like every other album that was being made during this early/middle psychedelic period. 4/5

Suprisingly good album, utterly beautiful from time to time. Its not flawless but it came as a shock just how good it was and im suprised ive never heard of them before

7/10, only skipped one song

A sunny afternoon type album

Good crafted 60s album

Enjoyed it more than I thought I would & will listen again 👍

Good British Invasion band. Time of the Season is an absolute classic. The lyrics were better than expected - for example, there's a song about religious leaders encouraging young men to go fight in wars despite never having to witness the horrors of war themselves, and a song about how the singer is genuinely happy for the couples he knows who are in good relationships - not a common subject!

Was interesting to listen to, good background music for working! I don't typically listen to music from the 60s, not even the Beatles, so this was a nice departure.

Enjoyed this! Boppy, fun, good vibes.

Mostly dated

I liked it

Pretty good! Definitely some great songs, but also a few that felt a bit like fillers.

Wow, I really enjoyed this actually, especially Time of the Season. Not Butcher's Tale though, that song can fuck right off.

Poppy majesty. This Will Be Our Year is a mini masterpiece.

A truely great psych pop album

Baller

Classic 60s. Words in songs and organ music. I enjoyed it-especially the songs I know that are classic rock and roll. It’s The Time of The Season and She’s Not There.

A very surprising album by The Zombies! First few minutes in, you could tell that they were way ahead of their times. A pretty simple and entertaining rock melodies, a la early The Beatles, but the vocals were really amazing! At some point on the album you could tell if those guys are a recent band or are actually from sixties. The harmonies bu band members were perfect, "This will be Our Year" was just an example of great song created with simple measures. How come they aren't much more popular? They are on this list, but I would suspect at least a little bit more popculture references. Nevertheless, it was so nice to discover this band, I am sure I will come back to it many times In future.

I dig their unique mellow vibe. This was a cool listen and they seem to still stand out from other bands from the era. I think I have severely underrated them over the years.

Beautiful sentiments

big fan of this album. Time of the season has been a fave for awhile and I like the rest of the album too. Nice, punchy 60s.

Surprisingly mysterious and lovely.

who's your daddy?!?!?!?

Pretty cool sound. Like a better Piper at the Gates of Dawn

great album, sounds ahead of it's time

Don't have time for a full listen but it's good and a shame it's not well known in the UK, especially considering they're British. (4.0 but subject to change)

Great album. The first 2 tracks and both mega hits for me, even more than time of the season. The rest of it was always pleasant and when it ended i was disappointed it was over.

Would give 4.5 stars if I could. Very classic

This was pretty good! I was surprised I wasn’t more familiar with this band, but I only knew “Time of the Season.” I would listen to this again.

Excellent

Listened to time of the season with headphones in while high … it was a spiritual experience

Pretty Beatle-y, kind of my thing

deze was echt goed! mooie ontdekking, leuk hoe alles mooi in elkaar over gaat.

Essence of the 60's, I was actually quite surprised how I enjoyed it. Few songs stood out (Care of Cell 44, Changes), generally more a of a very pleasant background music.

Me gustó mucho y la portada me encanta (4/5) Canciones favoritas -Care of Cell 44 -Beechwood Park -Brief Candles -Changes -This Will Be Our Year -Friends of Mine

Time of the Season. Influenced alt indie bands like the Kooks. Super chill listen.

Amazing, reminds me of The Beatles in a way. Time of the season is probably my favourite of the album.

Scrolling back and somehow missed this one. Well any excuse to listen to this album is a good one.

It's the musical equivalent of SHACK in trousers.

A bit Pet Sounds, a bit Village Green Preservation Society, a bit Sgt. Pepper, a bit Forever Changes. It's a decent album but it's very late '60s psychedelia by numbers. It's like SHACK wearing trousers. We all like SHACK in trousers, you're still getting a lot of SHACK but it's not making you wet in quite the same way as SHACK in short shorts.

Looks trippy… The album starts with care of cell 44 it’s a boring version of the normal 60’s psychedelic songs shame really but I still love this sound in general. Okay the first song may have been boring but only compared to the whole genre but a rose for Emily is a boring tune in general. Maybe after he’s gone was the first song I actually enjoyed but the way he sings the chorus is pronounced really wired still a good tune though! Beechwood park gas a glum sound to it but this males it really good I’am happy the album is upping its quality. Brief candles is quite a good slow track with a very explosive chorus. Hung up on a dream is slightly like a day in the life by the Beatles ( this song isn’t as good as a day in the life but still an awesome tune). Ooh some tribal drums changes is wired but captivating at the same time, yeah really liked this one. I want her she wants me is a very upbeat number fun but not a favourite. I very vaguely recognise this will be our year it’s a great single anyway and it works really well on this album. Butchers tale ( western front 1914) is the darkest sounding song with amazing church organs easy favourite! Friends of mine is very happy and upbeat sounding tune don’t love it don’t hate it. The album ends on a perfect note with time of the season a brilliant single that I definitely recognised amazing song. It starts off rocky and ends amazing so 4/5.

I quite liked this. Lovely stuff.

I wasn’t familiar with this album and nothing struck as familiar except for Time of the Season which has been a favorite song of mine for as long as I have known it. The rest of the tracks were a pleasant surprise!

Big fan of the Zombies since I was first introduced to them by a massive Canadian singing "Time of the Season" at karaoke in the wee hours of the morning. This was therefore a delightful chaser after the Jon Spencer Blues Shitplosion that preceded it.

Good old hippie rock

Anticipated Beatles-lite but instead found this more Simon & Garfunkel inspired. Sounds great - All killer no filler.

des morts vivants à la voix angélique

it resembles the 60s and summer very well and it's psychedelic and I love psychedelic and the whole 60s and 70s era with beatleesque music. not a forgettable one, some bangers in it. also cool album name and cover

Beautiful dreamy melodies.

Care of cell 44, This will be our year, and ToTS carry this to a 4. The rest is mediocre

Psychedelic! This is a fun album

Released quietly, the Zombies split up before performing the album. Which is a shame as it is great. Really fresh sound, lovely album. Make sure you have on until the last track!

Very enjoyable and would highly recommend. Feels somewhat derivative of many other bands from the same era, but that era also pumped out some of the greatest sounds, so there's nothing necessarily wrong with that!

Pretty solid, sounds crazy good for how old it is. Very good singer, lyrics a bit surface-level through most of it but it was still very engaging even though its not my preferred genre.

If you like The Beatles, you'll like this. Time of the Season is a bop and the album as a whole sounds beautiful. It just doesn't grab me the way some other plays 60s rock does.

Great album!

Rating: 8/10 Best songs: Care of cell 44, This will be our year, Time of the season

Pretty good, not earth-shaking but just good solid sixties rock, before Argent and Colin Blunstones personal success.

Wel bijzonder album, erg beatles achtig. Time of the seasons is vooral lekker

Is good

Surprised how much I like this one. Great sound that is fresh even today. 4/5

wow- really liked the sound

Fantastic Psych record. At times sounding like a continuation of pet sounds era beach boys, while still holding its own as a great 60s pop album. My only wish is for the mono version to be more readily available. Favourites: "Care Of Cell 44", "This Will Be Our Year", "Time of the Season"

Side one has that baroque stuff that flooded the market in 1967/68. But it gets way more interesting on side two. Time of the Season is a step above everything else. The closest I can come is to describe it as sinuous. There is a reason why The Beatles and Stones are so much more successful than all other '60s bands. They took psychedelia to strange, wonderful places, then moved on.

Really enjoyed this. Quite odd that the most iconic song comes in last, but discovered a few other belters in there

ems a bitch

I enjoyed this one more than I expected to. And hey, now I know where that weird "Who's your daddy" song comes from. Even though I didn't love EVERY track here, most of them were quality, so the album deserves some bonus points for that. Fave track: Care of Cell 44, the opener. Also enjoyed A Rose for Emily (emo before it was cool) and Time of the Season if you can get past the creepy lyrics.

its like magical mystery tour but less lsd 4.5

Yes mommy

Like the zombies, da e ganske nusselig. Lure på om eg såg at dei skulle spela konsert i norge te høsten, men eg trudde ikkje dei fantes fortsatt

Pretty amazing, Really enjoyed it throughout the whole album (some of the later songs didn't compare to the first half imo). Not anything really bad to say other than on some of the songs the lyrics did end up feeling a bit repetitive and bland. It feels like its only missing a little bit extra and it would be truly something great. Favourite Songs: Care of Cell 44, Brief Candles

A beautiful, soulful psychedelic pop album. Some really lovely songs, with my main issue being how it doesn't have much range.

So synonymous are The Zombies sound with that Haight Ashbury groovy expansive psychedelic sound of ‘68 you’d assume they were American - but no, these rockers came from the UK - Hertfordshire no less, which is the last place you’d expect to find a scene. Their songwriting, melodies and harmonies and overall moods and production are exemplary and this album is a real gem, evocative, enjoyable and engaging.

Me encantóooooooooo

Really enjoying this, harmonious English chamber pop. Complex arrangements but still accessible to non musicians like me. Should have been more famous, funnily enough ‘time for the season’ sounds a bit like an afterthought.

I like this a lot. They might be a little lacking in creativity, but its not a big issue.

Club banga

One of the highlights of sixties psychedelic baroque pop whathaveyou. Would probably be a 5 if I wasn’t so late to the party

Never listened, a good one. More interesting than other music of the same period.

Yeah this was nice...washed over me a but, last song was great however

One of my favorite genres of music done so very well! Time of the Season is such a great song!

Really liked these guys, super fun groove.

Good album w some very classic tunes

I knew a couple of Zombies songs including the infamous Time of the Season from this album, but had never heard of this album. The occasional baroque pop song with psychedelic pop leanings found on 60s albums here and there are usually such easy, upbeat, and enjoyable listens for me. That said, this album does not dabble in the genre; it is absolutely immersed. It is an absolutely shining example of baroque pop with psychedelic pop leanings from start to finish. People have been listening to this genre of music for 60+ years. And yet, you have a moderately known band that has a fairly unknown album that is especially representative of that genre, and even after so long, the album has still managed to stay fairly unknown. To me, that makes it a perfect inclusion to this project. Anyone who knows and cares about bands of similar sound, such as The Beach Boys, The Kinks, or even The Beatles should be made aware of this album and should listen to it! While I wouldn't say that this album necessarily blew me away, I really just found it to be all-around pleasant and a great listen. I didn't find a single song to be a skip. It’s just simply a very well done album on every level.

This is an excellent example of ‘60s rock. Culminates with one of the decades finest songs and perhaps it’s best closing track.

Great album, classic all killer no filler

First of all, the name of the band: quite a juxtaposition from the sound, though perhaps not the lyrics, of their music. One thing I love about this album is how their lead singles are the first and last songs, arguably their most famous track being last, which means you have to sit through the whole album to get to it. I'm going to assume this was intentional, the band saying in 1968 that they weren't just making an album with a couple of singles and a bunch of filler tracks. There is no filler here. Every song is brilliant and fits in the overall whole of the album, a document dominated by the dual perennial themes of vivacious love and inevitable death. Leaves fall, and the summer crown of your roses wither. Also, opening your album with a seemingly innocent love song about “baby you’re coming home” type feelings but actually having it be a letter sent to a jailbird who’s about to get release from prison is a wonderful twist on the romantic song trope. Scratch the surface and you will reveal a darker message here: we’ll kiss and make up… wait. Why is the person in jail?

I like this guys

closer to 3.75

Had a very Beatles feel but with story telling. Did not finish the album though

Such a good 60s pop album. Impossible not to smile while listening to This Will Be Our Year. Care of Cell 44 is a great one, and of course, the classic Time of the Season!!!

Captivating the whole way through. I would say it's a "one-of-a-kind" album, if I hadn't heard its sound elsewhere countless times already. 4/5

First time listening to this album, Iv heard a couple of Zombie songs before. Really enjoyed this, one of the better 60’s albums and I’d say very underrated compared to Sgt. Pepper, and Pet sounds, but maybe just isn’t quiet as good, though maybe my bias of knowing those records much better.

Pretty fucking good

Hi-Maybe After He's Gone, Hung Up On A Dream Lo-Changes Of all the hippy-dippy psychadelic music, the Zombies are mainstays that brought us the timeless Time of the Season that closes out this album. Before that, you'll get to experience the both sad and sunny Maybe After He's Gone and the equally brilliant Hung Up On A Dream. Changes is drab beat poetry, but it's worth hearing nonetheless.

Pretty good!

Gorgeous melodies and great bass lines. I think I need more time with this album to really appreciate. Oh also... FRICKEN STEREO ARGH!!

Liked this a lot more than I thought I would. Always assumed The Zombies were going to be like the Beach Boys but there wasn't much of that sun-drenched saccharine sound that turns me off. More like the Doors but I enjoyed this more. Probably could have been 2 songs shorter. Favorite track was Brief Candles.

This was my first time listening the zombie’s music and was a blast. They had everything: rhythm, groove, depth… The album flows smoothly and most of the songs has its own personality. Cannot complain at all!

minecraft zombie noise: bruhhhhh

That was their year

Sons de lover

-”Friends of Mine” is pretty catchy and nice -”Time of the Season” is pretty nice with a cool bassline and nice mellotron jam at the end. At least I think it's a mellotron, lol -Generally nice psychedelic rock stuff, but just nothing really stands out. A pretty weak 4 but the fact that it is rock really helps it out

So much joy in one album, the psych tones are warm and edgy at the same time and it basically feels like an album made (and made to be enjoyed) on a lot of psychedelic drugs.

Pretty cool stuff. I wish there was a 1/2 star that I could give. 3 doesn’t seem like enough; 4 seems too much. Oh well.

sounds like more somber, better, british beach boys! I only knew the last track before listening, but I really liked the whole album! 4.5

Really dug this 4.5/5

Time of the Season is one of my favorite songs, but have never listened to this whole album. Enjoyed it, very Beatle like. 4

Very impressed with this album. Was expecting another boring Beatles-but-worse album from the 60s. This was great all-round just not quite a 5, a very strong 4 though. Fav track: Changes

I'm actually pretty familiar with this album. I think it's really solid. I wish it came with a cheatsheet for what drugs I need to really enjoy it. I'm sure there is definitely a way to drop something and peak at the perfect time. Eitherway, I'm a fan.

Иии

Interesting album - remind sne of some of the Beatles more experimental stuff I guess?

I think I had only heard Time of the season from this album before, partly because it's their most popular song but also because it's sampled by Schoolboy Q in his song Rolling stone. I regret not listening to The Zombies earlier because honestly this is so fucking good, I love the vocals in particular. I'm torn between a 4 or 5 star rating for this album, but im gonna have to go for a strong 4.

Enjoyed

really good

Good album, kind of peters out at the end,

Again, Its fine. great vocal harmonies. Time Of The Season is a thundering hit in an album that is the quintessentially sixties experiment.

Had some Jeff Lynn type moments. Good album. Brit rock?

Non proriamente miei

A good listen, like others have said this is typical of the era and the British rock and pop of the time. Influenced by both the Beatles and the Beach Boys, close harmonies lyrical content etc. I also hear the Kinks and Small Faces in this Album. See Itchycoo Park/Beechwood Park link. Love "This Will Be Our Year" and of course "Time Of The Season". "The Butchers Tale" is a great anti war song too. Recorded at Abbey Road allegedly with John Lennon's Mellotron that was used on "Sgt Peppers" which was recorded before this. love the lyrical bass work on Care Of Cell 44. A fine piece of 60's pop/rock ephemera.

Sound a lot like the Beatles but I still liked this a lot. Good vibes.

really good tunes on here particularly Time of the Season which is an all time classic with the keyboard sound so associated with the Zombies.

Loved the first track. So good

Surprising great stuff. I always thought their music and their name didn't jive. This is the first time I've listened to anything by them that wasn't Time of the Season. They were really talented song writers. Name still doesn't jive though.

This was cool! Lots of psychedelic stuff but honestly reminded me more of late Beatles. Great harmonies.

I really like this album. "Time Of The Season" has almost become a standard by now, and like so many others I grew up hearing it and almost ignoring it. I may be old but 60s rock for the most part bores me, so when I was given this album probably 20 years ago and told to listen to it I didn't think I'd enjoy it much. Wrongwrongwrong. Right off the bat the melodic "Care of Cell 44" starts the album right; a comically weird song about someone writing to their partner in jail. The 90s band Jellyfish is one of my favourite bands of all-time and this song *is* Jellyfish 25 years early. Jumps right into the song after a very short intro; killer vocal harmonies in the chorus - brilliant. The rest of the album follows suit with melodic twists and turns and although its unmistakable echos of 60s arrangements (a little too reverby, prevalent strings, etc) are a little too much on a personal taste level, there's so much to like on this record that it's a keeper. A few dips (e.g. "Changes" and "Butcher's Tale" aren't favourites) but nothing immediately skip-worthy. And to finish off, the aforementioned "Time Of The Season" is a great album closer and I've found I appreciate it's slinky creepiness much more in the album context than I ever had before. 8/10 4 stars

Reminds me a lot of the Beatles tbh

Canonical psychedelic rock, what more is to be said? My ardor for this genre has cooled with age. But this is at top of this particular line.

Need to listen one more time

Really nice bit of 60's pop, you can actually hear how they influenced bands in the future.

Like a darker, more whimsical, much better Beach Boys. An enjoyable half hour. Time of the Season is an all time classic.

Solid stuff

My kinda vibe but lower end of 4/5. Clearly inspired by Pet Sounds

I...actually quite like this. I mean, it closes with an iconic song, but the whole album has a nice, chill feeling to it. It's inextricably 60s, but that's not a bad thing. If I smoked pot, this would be a lovely album to turn on and just groove on.

I have never heard of The Zombies but I really enjoyed this album from start to finish. I would be happy to listen to this again and may even choose to play another album of theirs at some point.

4/5 Would probably listen to again. Enjoyed listening to it

Interesting sound, cool music 4/5 Nice piano

4of5. Good chill music from the times.

Sort of a mix between post-Sgt. Pepper Beatles and the Beach Boys, with a bit of Doors mixed in. Groovy.

Going into this album, the only thing I had heard from them was “Time of the Season”. I had initially heard it as a sample on the Eminem track “Rhyme or Reason” which I had really enjoyed because of The Zombies song on it, not so much because of Eminem. I first found out that it was a sample today actually (6/13/21) when I saw the Cruella movie in theaters, which it is in, and I have been listening to it all day since! So, “Time of the Season” was my favorite track on this album, however the race was very close. This whole album was fantastic and so much fun to listen to! I love the vibe of these guys and will definitely be listening to more of them now! 4/5.

Beatles meets Beach Boys. Similar vocalisation, similar arrangements. Just not convinced that the compositions are as good though.

Strong start, Care of Cell 44 is fantastic. Another solid one, gotta check that band out and listen to this one a couple of more times.

Maybe after he's gone Time of the Season

My top three songs: Time of the Seasons, Brief Candles, and Beechwood Park.

this was fun! goofy and psychedelic but not over the top 8/10

Groovy, nice background. Bit forgettable though. 8

Yesterday I worked on adding details from Train A into Train B and filtering out what we needed v "not used" information. I also worked on getting our slab plan and demo plan set up for the addendum. This album reminded me a lot of the Beatles which is always a go to for helping me get through my work day. My top songs were Care of Cell 44 & Brief Candles.

A real good listen. I thought 'Rose for emily' screamed 60s. Fantastic Also, "This will be our year" sounded familiar as soon as it kicked in. I'd heard the cover by Beautiful South but not this original. A really good album and I'm sure it will get another listen.

8/10. Pretty good, but nothing super exciting

heard some of these before. Me likey very much.

4.2 + Some beautiful songwriting with surprising quirks throughout. Strong 60s pop.

Better than I expected. The hit songs are immediately recognizable and the rest of the album sounds surprisingly contemporary.

cute happy

Un disc per l'estiu. Increïbles harmonies vocals, pop psicodèlic -però accessible- i brillant i algunes de les millors cançons de l'època (ni més ni menys)

Very nice surprise. One more album for my favorites from this site.

Loved "time of the season

First song and last song are pretty good. The rest are just alright 60s semi-psychedelic rock tunes. 7

Better than expected. Great musicians

What up what up y’all it’s Chanclas Batman a.k.a. Chanclas checkin in and checking out “Odessey and Oracle”. A sun-dipped daydream from the 60’s with a lingering finish. Bangers on top of bangers in the last half of the album. I’ll admit you might have to be in the mood for the genre or the dudes voice, but if you are it’s definitely a close to perfect album that deserves a full listen. Saved tracks: 8/12 tf? track: “changes” tf? I’m kinda sad now track: “butchers tale” Stand out tracks: final 3 tracks

Psychedelic wow. A great journey...I feel like Flaming Lips were influenced by this album.

liquid sunshine. Love the opening track. Just drips 60's

It's good! It sounded pretty fresh for being 53 years old.

I enjoyed this. It's kind of surprising that this band wasn't more popular than they were. They were kind of one hit wonders with that "Time of the Season" song. And that's far from the best one on this album. 4/5

Pretty good melodic British psychedelia, kind of in the spirit of a "Beatles meets the Beach Boys" fusion band. The album is solid, but the real standout is the closing track, "Time of the Season".

Catchy, some cool. Seems like a staple of the 60s.

An enjoyable mixtures of style here. Reminiscent of The Beatles and The Moody Blues.

Old timey hippy

Pretty good for its time but feels a bit similar to its contemporaries

Sounds very similar to Beatles. Recognized some tracks I would not have been able to name the artist for previously!

A very good example of 60's rock.

British Beach Boys! Yay! Great album, fun listen and Time of the Season is still phenomenal!

No denying their sound, Time of the Season makes this album a must. That song alone personifies the 60’s. Great classic album

Pretty cool not sure I would listen to it again

It’s a wonder this album wasn’t more popular. Pretty great, timeless hippie-pop. Probably got lost in the era of the Beatles.

This morning I'm listening to 'Odessey and Oracle' by The Zombies released in 1968. I've heard Time of the Season many times over the years and I had no idea how good this album was. I've really enjoyed this and it is quite a journey through the late 60s with this band. Of the 'psychedelic' albums of the late 60s, this is by far the most enjoyable album track by track i've heard. I really like 'This Will Be Our Year' I'm sure Ive heard this before. Maybe it has been covered by someone. I'll check that out. I've already added to my playlist to hear over again. Really enjoyable!

Albums and Bands like these really prove that the Beatles only scratched the surface of how good this style of music can be

Me: Mom can we have Sgt. Pepper? Mom: We have Sgt. Pepper at home Sgt. Pepper at home: Enjoyed the psych-tinged 60s/early 70s pop vibes this gave me. 'Time of the Season' is a track that's been on the mental tip of the tongue for a while and the rest of the LP is similarly good.

Sounds of Beatles, Beach Boys, The Doors. Can hear influences for White Stripes Cool harmonies and low lead vocal

music wasn't as trippy as the alum cover

Enjoyable Psych Pop

Gut für Früh- oder Spätsommer

I'm having a hard time classifying the musical stylings of this album. Regardless, I kinda like it! Maybe it's resonating with the rainy April day outside, but I think I'd listen to it again even if it were sunny. 4 stars!

very good.. a few songs I knew (time of the season) highlight..my hands wont stop shaking! butchers tale

Feels like listening to every other 60's BritPopRock. Solid album overall. No bad songs, and Time of the Season is the most recognizable classic song.

Pretty nice 60s vibes

This was not bad. Makes for good background music while assembling Halloween goodie bags.

7.5/10 F.t.: Time of the Season. Duh.

1/21 If “Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds” was an album, it expands on that psychedelic journey vibe. Standout Tracks: Beechwood Park, Brief Candles, Time of the Season

A bit too close to the Beatles for my taste. The last track on the album is great, but the rest of it is a bit meh.

Felt like a summer time vibe with upbeat rhythms. I enjoyed this quite a bit while listening at work and on my commute

Has everyone seen "Odyssey" yet? Then it's time to listen to "Odessey." Yes, the artist who designed the cover simply made a typo, and the band and label either didn't notice or didn't care, so the album was released with that title. That's some 60s indifference! I also can't help but see the drawing at the bottom of the album of Super Saiyan Goku from Dragonball Z preparing to battle; apparently, the artist saw the future under the blotter. Now about the album itself. It's baroque pop through and through; almost every song (with the exception of one) relies on a calm piano and is connected by the theme of love in all its forms — shared, unshared, breakups, reunions, etc. Quite sweet, but a bit boring. The last song that really gets this whole thing to a three stars is the one you've clearly heard, but didn't know the name or the composer. Believe it or not, check it out.

Pretty hit or miss. Some high highs and some low lows

An okay classic rock album, it was interesting but nothing too special. Felt very hippy, like straight out of Woodstock. More like a 3.5, but I'm rounding down here as it wasn't that good of a listen.

Odessey and Oracle is an album I have eyeing down to hear ever since I heard the cool Time of the Season well over 4 years ago. It is your typical Psychedelic Pop from the 60s but feels like so much more than just that. It feels so much more colorful and textured even though one would think it would be run of the mill. The lyrics, feelings, and ideas flow right out of the music and form the biggest smile on your face as it just feels like that perfect spring album to put on as everything is becoming alive again. As much as I love Time of the Season, after hearing this whole album that track does feel very out of place for the super colorful and bright songs that came before it. This whole album sounds like spring and then that song sounds like fall if that makes any sense. This album was still really good but I just don't think it is as great as a lot of people are saying here, it passes in my books and may be something I come back to more in the future.

2.8/5 Some nice songs. A few boring ones, but it was good overall.

Eclectic rock with beach boys harmonies and creative musicians. The album has 2 clear highlights in 'care of cell 44' and 'time of the season'.

I like the Zombies hits (Time of the Season, She’s Not There, etc). Had never listened to this album before and was somewhat disappointed. I think, as Ive aged and my music tastes have shifted, some of the more flowery psychedelic ‘60’s music like this isn’t as appealing to me. Still very strong harmonies and some good songs here, but I was expecting to enjoy it more than I did.

Well, that album cover doesn’t recommend it. Hey man, if you can take a short story by Faulkner about an aging woman “holding onto” her dead lover, and turn it into a little ditty, that, at the very least, deserves a 3. 3 Boolean: True

Early Temu Floyd

Maybe a 4

The Zombies might be one of the most underrated bands of the British Invasion. They had some truly iconic songs in the ’60s, and their music captures that quintessential sound of the era. As for Odessey and Oracle, though, I thought it was just fine. Obviously, “Time of the Season” is the big hit, and it stands pretty tall above everything else here. There are still some other good tracks, though. “Butcher’s Tale” has this wonderfully eerie atmosphere, and I enjoyed the bright, unmistakably ’60s sound of “Care of Cell 44.” The album gives you a nice mixture of sunshine pop and the gloomier, slightly psychedelic side of the decade. At the same time, a few songs sound pretty similar to what other British Invasion bands were already doing. I also noticed some surprisingly rough technical moments. The instruments occasionally overpower the vocals, parts of the mix clash, and at one point you can practically hear a lead vocal being turned down right before the chorus. I’m also fairly certain I heard a wrong piano note, unless the piano was simply trying to express itself. A few songs even feel slightly rushed. So yeah, it’s a mixed bag, but it’s a perfectly decent listen. Anyone who loves ’60s pop will probably find plenty to enjoy, even though “Time of the Season” remains the obvious reason to show up.

I know the Zombies of course, but not well. Outside Time of the Season and She's Not There I remember them being vaguely Beatles-esque and pretty much what you would think of for late 60s psychedelic rock. We'll see if that holds true listening to a whole album. Yeah it pretty much does. You could play anything from this album and pinpoint exactly when are where it came from. That whole era and style had such a specific sound. But as for the whole album - Time of the Season is great, the rest is mostly just standard 60s psych pop. 3/5

Chill listen! Very accessible sound and very fun to listen!

Datert pop. Time of the Season er en perle, men resten av låtene føles kjedelige. Døll vokal.

Perfectly fine 60s music. Nothing earth shattering.

This album was sometimes a vibe, but other times distractingly similar to Pet Sounds and the Beatles. Standout Track: Care of Cell 44 Rating: 3

Here's what I've learned about 60s music. Inevitably, there is a song from a band that becomes a hit. It sounds nothing like the rest of the album. Time of the Season is that song here. What a great song. Wish the rest of the album was this good. Extra star for learning about the fake Zombies, which is just an awesome addition to their lore.

1020 - "Here's your juice box and orange slice. Thanks for coming."

A few nice songs and a few forgettable. A bit of a mixed bag and ok overall.

Maybe I need to spend some more time with this album, because despite it's many qualities it just didn't blow me away whatsoever. It sounds crazily similar to the Beatles and it shocked me to hear that this actually came before Abbey Road was released - I'd just assumed whilst listening that they were a copy cat band. The songwriting just isn't there for me, and it feels polished to the point where it feels cheesy. Not bad at all but ultimately not my bag.

Jokunen hyvä biisi ja sopivan lyhyt levy.

The Beatles from Temu. Couple bangers, couple songs I heavily dislike. Best: Time of the Season Worst: Changes

It's fine but I wanted more.

Strong reminder of the Beatles. Part of the British Invasion without being overly played in my head. Glad to know about the Zombies now. I had heard of them - now I have heard them. I like the last track "Time of the Season", but I liked it better when Blake Lewis performed it on American Idol in 2015.

The Zombies are cool but this record is just not it for me

There's nothing bad about this album, but the only thing I'd want to hear again is Time of the Season. Everything else is just ok. They sound like they couldn't decide if they wanted to sound like The Beatles or The Beach Boys, so they tried sounding like both. It didn't work out too well.

Vika biisi aivan erinomainen. Muutama hyvä mut ei mikään ihmeellinen. 3/5

Saving this for another time when i can appreciate rock properly

You can see The Beach Boys and The Beatles within the DNA of their music, but that's obvious because they were contemporaries.

Liked this. It’s very late sixties, but often in a good way.

Ok album, nothing groundbreaking. I wish more tracks were a style similar to Time of the Season as it really stood out among the others.

Very eclectic listen. Was into the multi genre

#51 We have The Beatles at home. The Beatles at home: Easy enough to listen to, but mostly forgettable. Time of the Season is the only true standout track, and it is fantastic.

Een van vele albums. Wel een heerlijke afsluiter

Beach Boys-esque harmonies throughout and the instrumentation is very Beatles-esque; much more piano on this than I anticipated

Chill psychedelic but didn’t hit me

A up, I was pleasantly surprised by this. I saw that it was 60s rock and had my finger hovering over the 1 or 2 buttons Not bad

After the first track I was like, “oh shit this is about to fucking rock.” And then I was kinda underwhelmed. Yes it was lush, gorgeous even. But I felt like they neglected songwriting in favor of arrangement. And it lead to a sort of beautiful amnesia. Outside of the opener and time of the season, I felt like I wasn’t left with much to remember this album by.

This sets a standard with “Care of Cell 44” that the rest only fully lives up to in bits and pieces. That song is so damn good. It was a nice surprise to get to the end of the album and hear a song I’ve heard a bunch but never knew what it was.

Very much of it’s time. Not unpleasant.

There are definitely better albums from British 60s groups, but this one was quite spiffing!

It was a fun album, but nothing crazy for me. Probably in the 3.25 territory. Fun listen, no takeaways, and probably wouldn't listen again.

This was mostly your standard issue hippie fare, but it was a decent listen.

Found a lot of the tracks a little bit hit and miss. Ends on an absolute banger. Not the worst.

Good sixties stuff, enjoyed it

beatles wannabe

This was OK but not amazing. I wonder if I would mark it up with repeated listens as the harmonies are good, but not Beach Boys good)

There are some nice bits but can't imagine putting it on again

Somewhere in between Beatles and Mamas and Papas, generally okay but Time of the Season is a banger

Never heard of this band, or this album. It is fun, though. However, it sounds a lot like The Beatles and is a bit repetitive.

it was a nice listen but not life-changing for me. My favorite song was I Want Her She Wants Me.

It’s decent for a sunday morning. Nothing crazy but also nothing outstanding

I havent ever heard these songs so it was cool to listen to what perhaps my grandparents listened to.

A sweet and short baroque pop album. From the pleasant singing with occasional choirs, to the cute pianos and different types of organs, this album has everything the genre has to offer. The thing that interested me the most is the insane backstory, which is fascinating. Once again, record labels show that they only care about the money, as they created several fake versions of this band as a result of the original one disbanding. When it comes to the music itself... I'm not so interested. It is a nice experience and the charm is undeniably there, but I can't say I love it. Baroque pop is a genre that offers a good time with its happy sound, but I find it to be a bit too gimmicky for my taste.

This wasn’t a bad entry in the “1001 British albums you need to listen to before you die” Time of the Season is a good tune. Dave Matthews Band covers it on some of their live albums

Bit of a weird album but I liked most of it. Maybe after he’s gone and Beachwood park were highlights.

Pretty lush, pretty classic rock, pretty 60's through and through. Has that Beatles harmonics mixed with changing melodies and instrumental/ vocal changes throughout that I would have been more I to growing up with it. Pretty upbeat and inoffensive, bummer this was more or less the end of the road for them as a band creating music but we got some hits and some fun off shoot bands/ stories so ill take it.

Again, not a bad album, but nothing too exciting. Very typical 60s pop stuff. Some songs were familiar to me, lots new, and I enjoyed listening through, but I don't think I'd go out of my way to listen again.
