Reviews (page 7 of 13)

I quite liked this. Lovely stuff.

I wasn’t familiar with this album and nothing struck as familiar except for Time of the Season which has been a favorite song of mine for as long as I have known it. The rest of the tracks were a pleasant surprise!

Big fan of the Zombies since I was first introduced to them by a massive Canadian singing "Time of the Season" at karaoke in the wee hours of the morning. This was therefore a delightful chaser after the Jon Spencer Blues Shitplosion that preceded it.

Good old hippie rock

Anticipated Beatles-lite but instead found this more Simon & Garfunkel inspired. Sounds great - All killer no filler.

des morts vivants à la voix angélique

it resembles the 60s and summer very well and it's psychedelic and I love psychedelic and the whole 60s and 70s era with beatleesque music. not a forgettable one, some bangers in it. also cool album name and cover

Beautiful dreamy melodies.

Care of cell 44, This will be our year, and ToTS carry this to a 4. The rest is mediocre

Psychedelic! This is a fun album

Released quietly, the Zombies split up before performing the album. Which is a shame as it is great. Really fresh sound, lovely album. Make sure you have on until the last track!

Very enjoyable and would highly recommend. Feels somewhat derivative of many other bands from the same era, but that era also pumped out some of the greatest sounds, so there's nothing necessarily wrong with that!

Pretty solid, sounds crazy good for how old it is. Very good singer, lyrics a bit surface-level through most of it but it was still very engaging even though its not my preferred genre.

If you like The Beatles, you'll like this. Time of the Season is a bop and the album as a whole sounds beautiful. It just doesn't grab me the way some other plays 60s rock does.

Great album!

Rating: 8/10 Best songs: Care of cell 44, This will be our year, Time of the season

Pretty good, not earth-shaking but just good solid sixties rock, before Argent and Colin Blunstones personal success.

Wel bijzonder album, erg beatles achtig. Time of the seasons is vooral lekker

Is good

Surprised how much I like this one. Great sound that is fresh even today. 4/5

wow- really liked the sound

Fantastic Psych record. At times sounding like a continuation of pet sounds era beach boys, while still holding its own as a great 60s pop album. My only wish is for the mono version to be more readily available. Favourites: "Care Of Cell 44", "This Will Be Our Year", "Time of the Season"

Side one has that baroque stuff that flooded the market in 1967/68. But it gets way more interesting on side two. Time of the Season is a step above everything else. The closest I can come is to describe it as sinuous. There is a reason why The Beatles and Stones are so much more successful than all other '60s bands. They took psychedelia to strange, wonderful places, then moved on.

Really enjoyed this. Quite odd that the most iconic song comes in last, but discovered a few other belters in there

ems a bitch

I enjoyed this one more than I expected to. And hey, now I know where that weird "Who's your daddy" song comes from. Even though I didn't love EVERY track here, most of them were quality, so the album deserves some bonus points for that. Fave track: Care of Cell 44, the opener. Also enjoyed A Rose for Emily (emo before it was cool) and Time of the Season if you can get past the creepy lyrics.

its like magical mystery tour but less lsd 4.5

Yes mommy

Like the zombies, da e ganske nusselig. Lure på om eg såg at dei skulle spela konsert i norge te høsten, men eg trudde ikkje dei fantes fortsatt

Pretty amazing, Really enjoyed it throughout the whole album (some of the later songs didn't compare to the first half imo). Not anything really bad to say other than on some of the songs the lyrics did end up feeling a bit repetitive and bland. It feels like its only missing a little bit extra and it would be truly something great. Favourite Songs: Care of Cell 44, Brief Candles

A beautiful, soulful psychedelic pop album. Some really lovely songs, with my main issue being how it doesn't have much range.

So synonymous are The Zombies sound with that Haight Ashbury groovy expansive psychedelic sound of ‘68 you’d assume they were American - but no, these rockers came from the UK - Hertfordshire no less, which is the last place you’d expect to find a scene. Their songwriting, melodies and harmonies and overall moods and production are exemplary and this album is a real gem, evocative, enjoyable and engaging.

Me encantóooooooooo

Really enjoying this, harmonious English chamber pop. Complex arrangements but still accessible to non musicians like me. Should have been more famous, funnily enough ‘time for the season’ sounds a bit like an afterthought.

I like this a lot. They might be a little lacking in creativity, but its not a big issue.

Club banga

One of the highlights of sixties psychedelic baroque pop whathaveyou. Would probably be a 5 if I wasn’t so late to the party

Never listened, a good one. More interesting than other music of the same period.

Yeah this was nice...washed over me a but, last song was great however

One of my favorite genres of music done so very well! Time of the Season is such a great song!

Really liked these guys, super fun groove.

Good album w some very classic tunes

I knew a couple of Zombies songs including the infamous Time of the Season from this album, but had never heard of this album. The occasional baroque pop song with psychedelic pop leanings found on 60s albums here and there are usually such easy, upbeat, and enjoyable listens for me. That said, this album does not dabble in the genre; it is absolutely immersed. It is an absolutely shining example of baroque pop with psychedelic pop leanings from start to finish. People have been listening to this genre of music for 60+ years. And yet, you have a moderately known band that has a fairly unknown album that is especially representative of that genre, and even after so long, the album has still managed to stay fairly unknown. To me, that makes it a perfect inclusion to this project. Anyone who knows and cares about bands of similar sound, such as The Beach Boys, The Kinks, or even The Beatles should be made aware of this album and should listen to it! While I wouldn't say that this album necessarily blew me away, I really just found it to be all-around pleasant and a great listen. I didn't find a single song to be a skip. It’s just simply a very well done album on every level.

This is an excellent example of ‘60s rock. Culminates with one of the decades finest songs and perhaps it’s best closing track.

Great album, classic all killer no filler

First of all, the name of the band: quite a juxtaposition from the sound, though perhaps not the lyrics, of their music. One thing I love about this album is how their lead singles are the first and last songs, arguably their most famous track being last, which means you have to sit through the whole album to get to it. I'm going to assume this was intentional, the band saying in 1968 that they weren't just making an album with a couple of singles and a bunch of filler tracks. There is no filler here. Every song is brilliant and fits in the overall whole of the album, a document dominated by the dual perennial themes of vivacious love and inevitable death. Leaves fall, and the summer crown of your roses wither. Also, opening your album with a seemingly innocent love song about “baby you’re coming home” type feelings but actually having it be a letter sent to a jailbird who’s about to get release from prison is a wonderful twist on the romantic song trope. Scratch the surface and you will reveal a darker message here: we’ll kiss and make up… wait. Why is the person in jail?

I like this guys

closer to 3.75

Had a very Beatles feel but with story telling. Did not finish the album though

Such a good 60s pop album. Impossible not to smile while listening to This Will Be Our Year. Care of Cell 44 is a great one, and of course, the classic Time of the Season!!!

Captivating the whole way through. I would say it's a "one-of-a-kind" album, if I hadn't heard its sound elsewhere countless times already. 4/5

First time listening to this album, Iv heard a couple of Zombie songs before. Really enjoyed this, one of the better 60’s albums and I’d say very underrated compared to Sgt. Pepper, and Pet sounds, but maybe just isn’t quiet as good, though maybe my bias of knowing those records much better.

Pretty fucking good

Hi-Maybe After He's Gone, Hung Up On A Dream Lo-Changes Of all the hippy-dippy psychadelic music, the Zombies are mainstays that brought us the timeless Time of the Season that closes out this album. Before that, you'll get to experience the both sad and sunny Maybe After He's Gone and the equally brilliant Hung Up On A Dream. Changes is drab beat poetry, but it's worth hearing nonetheless.

Pretty good!

Gorgeous melodies and great bass lines. I think I need more time with this album to really appreciate. Oh also... FRICKEN STEREO ARGH!!

Liked this a lot more than I thought I would. Always assumed The Zombies were going to be like the Beach Boys but there wasn't much of that sun-drenched saccharine sound that turns me off. More like the Doors but I enjoyed this more. Probably could have been 2 songs shorter. Favorite track was Brief Candles.

Hi-Maybe After He's Gone, Hung Up On A Dream Lo-Changes Of all the hippy-dippy psychadelic music, the Zombies are mainstays that brought us the timeless Time of the Season that closes out this album. This was my first time listening the zombie’s music and was a blast. They had everything: rhythm, groove, depth… The album flows smoothly and most of the songs has its own personality. Cannot complain at all!

minecraft zombie noise: bruhhhhh

That was their year

Sons de lover

-”Friends of Mine” is pretty catchy and nice -”Time of the Season” is pretty nice with a cool bassline and nice mellotron jam at the end. At least I think it's a mellotron, lol -Generally nice psychedelic rock stuff, but just nothing really stands out. A pretty weak 4 but the fact that it is rock really helps it out

So much joy in one album, the psych tones are warm and edgy at the same time and it basically feels like an album made (and made to be enjoyed) on a lot of psychedelic drugs.

Pretty cool stuff. I wish there was a 1/2 star that I could give. 3 doesn’t seem like enough; 4 seems too much. Oh well.

sounds like more somber, better, british beach boys! I only knew the last track before listening, but I really liked the whole album! 4.5

Really dug this 4.5/5

Time of the Season is one of my favorite songs, but have never listened to this whole album. Enjoyed it, very Beatle like. 4

Very impressed with this album. Was expecting another boring Beatles-but-worse album from the 60s. This was great all-round just not quite a 5, a very strong 4 though. Fav track: Changes

I'm actually pretty familiar with this album. I think it's really solid. I wish it came with a cheatsheet for what drugs I need to really enjoy it. I'm sure there is definitely a way to drop something and peak at the perfect time. Eitherway, I'm a fan.

Иии

Interesting album - remind sne of some of the Beatles more experimental stuff I guess?

I think I had only heard Time of the season from this album before, partly because it's their most popular song but also because it's sampled by Schoolboy Q in his song Rolling stone. I regret not listening to The Zombies earlier because honestly this is so fucking good, I love the vocals in particular. I'm torn between a 4 or 5 star rating for this album, but im gonna have to go for a strong 4.

Enjoyed

really good

Good album, kind of peters out at the end,

Again, Its fine. great vocal harmonies. Time Of The Season is a thundering hit in an album that is the quintessentially sixties experiment.

Had some Jeff Lynn type moments. Good album. Brit rock?

Non proriamente miei

A good listen, like others have said this is typical of the era and the British rock and pop of the time. Influenced by both the Beatles and the Beach Boys, close harmonies lyrical content etc. I also hear the Kinks and Small Faces in this Album. See Itchycoo Park/Beechwood Park link. Love "This Will Be Our Year" and of course "Time Of The Season". "The Butchers Tale" is a great anti war song too. Recorded at Abbey Road allegedly with John Lennon's Mellotron that was used on "Sgt Peppers" which was recorded before this. love the lyrical bass work on Care Of Cell 44. A fine piece of 60's pop/rock ephemera.

Sound a lot like the Beatles but I still liked this a lot. Good vibes.

really good tunes on here particularly Time of the Season which is an all time classic with the keyboard sound so associated with the Zombies.

Loved the first track. So good

Surprising great stuff. I always thought their music and their name didn't jive. This is the first time I've listened to anything by them that wasn't Time of the Season. They were really talented song writers. Name still doesn't jive though.

This was cool! Lots of psychedelic stuff but honestly reminded me more of late Beatles. Great harmonies.

I really like this album. "Time Of The Season" has almost become a standard by now, and like so many others I grew up hearing it and almost ignoring it. I may be old but 60s rock for the most part bores me, so when I was given this album probably 20 years ago and told to listen to it I didn't think I'd enjoy it much. Wrongwrongwrong. Right off the bat the melodic "Care of Cell 44" starts the album right; a comically weird song about someone writing to their partner in jail. The 90s band Jellyfish is one of my favourite bands of all-time and this song *is* Jellyfish 25 years early. Jumps right into the song after a very short intro; killer vocal harmonies in the chorus - brilliant. The rest of the album follows suit with melodic twists and turns and although its unmistakable echos of 60s arrangements (a little too reverby, prevalent strings, etc) are a little too much on a personal taste level, there's so much to like on this record that it's a keeper. A few dips (e.g. "Changes" and "Butcher's Tale" aren't favourites) but nothing immediately skip-worthy. And to finish off, the aforementioned "Time Of The Season" is a great album closer and I've found I appreciate it's slinky creepiness much more in the album context than I ever had before. 8/10 4 stars

Reminds me a lot of the Beatles tbh

Canonical psychedelic rock, what more is to be said? My ardor for this genre has cooled with age. But this is at top of this particular line.

Need to listen one more time

Really nice bit of 60's pop, you can actually hear how they influenced bands in the future.

Like a darker, more whimsical, much better Beach Boys. An enjoyable half hour. Time of the Season is an all time classic.

Solid stuff

My kinda vibe but lower end of 4/5. Clearly inspired by Pet Sounds

I...actually quite like this. I mean, it closes with an iconic song, but the whole album has a nice, chill feeling to it. It's inextricably 60s, but that's not a bad thing. If I smoked pot, this would be a lovely album to turn on and just groove on.

I have never heard of The Zombies but I really enjoyed this album from start to finish. I would be happy to listen to this again and may even choose to play another album of theirs at some point.

4/5 Would probably listen to again. Enjoyed listening to it

Interesting sound, cool music 4/5 Nice piano

4of5. Good chill music from the times.

Sort of a mix between post-Sgt. Pepper Beatles and the Beach Boys, with a bit of Doors mixed in. Groovy.

Going into this album, the only thing I had heard from them was “Time of the Season”. I had initially heard it as a sample on the Eminem track “Rhyme or Reason” which I had really enjoyed because of The Zombies song on it, not so much because of Eminem. I first found out that it was a sample today actually (6/13/21) when I saw the Cruella movie in theaters, which it is in, and I have been listening to it all day since! So, “Time of the Season” was my favorite track on this album, however the race was very close. This whole album was fantastic and so much fun to listen to! I love the vibe of these guys and will definitely be listening to more of them now! 4/5.

Beatles meets Beach Boys. Similar vocalisation, similar arrangements. Just not convinced that the compositions are as good though.

Strong start, Care of Cell 44 is fantastic. Another solid one, gotta check that band out and listen to this one a couple of more times.

Maybe after he's gone Time of the Season

My top three songs: Time of the Seasons, Brief Candles, and Beechwood Park.

this was fun! goofy and psychedelic but not over the top 8/10

Groovy, nice background. Bit forgettable though. 8

Yesterday I worked on adding details from Train A into Train B and filtering out what we needed v "not used" information. I also worked on getting our slab plan and demo plan set up for the addendum. This album reminded me a lot of the Beatles which is always a go to for helping me get through my work day. My top songs were Care of Cell 44 & Brief Candles.

A real good listen. I thought 'Rose for emily' screamed 60s. Fantastic Also, "This will be our year" sounded familiar as soon as it kicked in. I'd heard the cover by Beautiful South but not this original. A really good album and I'm sure it will get another listen.

8/10. Pretty good, but nothing super exciting

heard some of these before. Me likey very much.

4.2 + Some beautiful songwriting with surprising quirks throughout. Strong 60s pop.

Better than I expected. The hit songs are immediately recognizable and the rest of the album sounds surprisingly contemporary.

cute happy

Un disc per l'estiu. Increïbles harmonies vocals, pop psicodèlic -però accessible- i brillant i algunes de les millors cançons de l'època (ni més ni menys)

Very nice surprise. One more album for my favorites from this site.

Loved "time of the season

First song and last song are pretty good. The rest are just alright 60s semi-psychedelic rock tunes. 7

Better than expected. Great musicians

What up what up y’all it’s Chanclas Batman a.k.a. Chanclas checkin in and checking out “Odessey and Oracle”. A sun-dipped daydream from the 60’s with a lingering finish. Bangers on top of bangers in the last half of the album. I’ll admit you might have to be in the mood for the genre or the dudes voice, but if you are it’s definitely a close to perfect album that deserves a full listen. Saved tracks: 8/12 tf? track: “changes” tf? I’m kinda sad now track: “butchers tale” Stand out tracks: final 3 tracks

Psychedelic wow. A great journey...I feel like Flaming Lips were influenced by this album.

liquid sunshine. Love the opening track. Just drips 60's

It's good! It sounded pretty fresh for being 53 years old.

I enjoyed this. It's kind of surprising that this band wasn't more popular than they were. They were kind of one hit wonders with that "Time of the Season" song. And that's far from the best one on this album. 4/5

Pretty good melodic British psychedelia, kind of in the spirit of a "Beatles meets the Beach Boys" fusion band. The album is solid, but the real standout is the closing track, "Time of the Season".

Catchy, some cool. Seems like a staple of the 60s.

An enjoyable mixtures of style here. Reminiscent of The Beatles and The Moody Blues.

Old timey hippy

Pretty good for its time but feels a bit similar to its contemporaries

Sounds very similar to Beatles. Recognized some tracks I would not have been able to name the artist for previously!

A very good example of 60's rock.

British Beach Boys! Yay! Great album, fun listen and Time of the Season is still phenomenal!

No denying their sound, Time of the Season makes this album a must. That song alone personifies the 60’s. Great classic album

Pretty cool not sure I would listen to it again

It’s a wonder this album wasn’t more popular. Pretty great, timeless hippie-pop. Probably got lost in the era of the Beatles.

This morning I'm listening to 'Odessey and Oracle' by The Zombies released in 1968. I've heard Time of the Season many times over the years and I had no idea how good this album was. I've really enjoyed this and it is quite a journey through the late 60s with this band. Of the 'psychedelic' albums of the late 60s, this is by far the most enjoyable album track by track i've heard. I really like 'This Will Be Our Year' I'm sure Ive heard this before. Maybe it has been covered by someone. I'll check that out. I've already added to my playlist to hear over again. Really enjoyable!

Albums and Bands like these really prove that the Beatles only scratched the surface of how good this style of music can be

Me: Mom can we have Sgt. Pepper? Mom: We have Sgt. Pepper at home Sgt. Pepper at home: Enjoyed the psych-tinged 60s/early 70s pop vibes this gave me. 'Time of the Season' is a track that's been on the mental tip of the tongue for a while and the rest of the LP is similarly good.

Sounds of Beatles, Beach Boys, The Doors. Can hear influences for White Stripes Cool harmonies and low lead vocal

music wasn't as trippy as the alum cover

Enjoyable Psych Pop

Gut für Früh- oder Spätsommer

I'm having a hard time classifying the musical stylings of this album. Regardless, I kinda like it! Maybe it's resonating with the rainy April day outside, but I think I'd listen to it again even if it were sunny. 4 stars!

very good.. a few songs I knew (time of the season) highlight..my hands wont stop shaking! butchers tale

Feels like listening to every other 60's BritPopRock. Solid album overall. No bad songs, and Time of the Season is the most recognizable classic song.

Pretty nice 60s vibes

This was not bad. Makes for good background music while assembling Halloween goodie bags.

7.5/10 F.t.: Time of the Season. Duh.

1/21 If “Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds” was an album, it expands on that psychedelic journey vibe. Standout Tracks: Beechwood Park, Brief Candles, Time of the Season

Beach Boys-esque harmonies throughout and the instrumentation is very Beatles-esque; much more piano on this than I anticipated

A up, I was pleasantly surprised by this. I saw that it was 60s rock and had my finger hovering over the 1 or 2 buttons Not bad

After the first track I was like, “oh shit this is about to fucking rock.” And then I was kinda underwhelmed. Yes it was lush, gorgeous even. But I felt like they neglected songwriting in favor of arrangement. And it lead to a sort of beautiful amnesia. Outside of the opener and time of the season, I felt like I wasn’t left with much to remember this album by.

This sets a standard with “Care of Cell 44” that the rest only fully lives up to in bits and pieces. That song is so damn good. It was a nice surprise to get to the end of the album and hear a song I’ve heard a bunch but never knew what it was.

Very much of it’s time. Not unpleasant.

There are definitely better albums from British 60s groups, but this one was quite spiffing!

It was a fun album, but nothing crazy for me. Probably in the 3.25 territory. Fun listen, no takeaways, and probably wouldn't listen again.

This was mostly your standard issue hippie fare, but it was a decent listen.

Found a lot of the tracks a little bit hit and miss. Ends on an absolute banger. Not the worst.

Good sixties stuff, enjoyed it

beatles wannabe

There are some nice bits but can't imagine putting it on again

Never heard of this band, or this album. It is fun, though. However, it sounds a lot like The Beatles and is a bit repetitive.

it was a nice listen but not life-changing for me. My favorite song was I Want Her She Wants Me.

It’s decent for a sunday morning. Nothing crazy but also nothing outstanding

I havent ever heard these songs so it was cool to listen to what perhaps my grandparents listened to.

A sweet and short baroque pop album. From the pleasant singing with occasional choirs, to the cute pianos and different types of organs, this album has everything the genre has to offer. The thing that interested me the most is the insane backstory, which is fascinating. Once again, record labels show that they only care about the money, as they created several fake versions of this band as a result of the original one disbanding. When it comes to the music itself... I'm not so interested. It is a nice experience and the charm is undeniably there, but I can't say I love it. Baroque pop is a genre that offers a good time with its happy sound, but I find it to be a bit too gimmicky for my taste.

This wasn’t a bad entry in the “1001 British albums you need to listen to before you die” Time of the Season is a good tune. Dave Matthews Band covers it on some of their live albums

Pretty lush, pretty classic rock, pretty 60's through and through. Has that Beatles harmonics mixed with changing melodies and instrumental/ vocal changes throughout that I would have been more I to growing up with it. Pretty upbeat and inoffensive, bummer this was more or less the end of the road for them as a band creating music but we got some hits and some fun off shoot bands/ stories so ill take it.

Again, not a bad album, but nothing too exciting. Very typical 60s pop stuff. Some songs were familiar to me, lots new, and I enjoyed listening through, but I don't think I'd go out of my way to listen again.

I like it a lot, love the explicit lyrics, some songs remind me of Queen. loveeee Time of the season.

Overall Rating - 3.25/5 (6.50/10). Pretty solid late 60s rock and roll. Changes and Time of the Season are stand out tracks. Time of the Season is much more psychadelic than the rest of the album, similar harmonies, but different instrumentation and feel.

We got The Beatles at home....Beatles at home

This was a decent listen and typical of 60s UK psych that probably got buried at the time below Floyd, Stones and The Beatles. Heard before ❌️ Listened this time ✅️ Revisit ❌️ ★★★☆☆ (6/10) Total reviewed : 345 Already owned : 77 Purchased : 16 To buy : 3 Nope : 249

Great album and feel but no real standout thing about it

Quirky and a bit different. Very repetitive at times, though still enjoyed. 3.5/5

Decent. Nice pretty songs. A little tame. Time of the Seasons is a great tune.

it contained a lot of short songs which I liked, honestly not that much to say abouit it. it was fine. i realize now that critics dont mean anything in terms of music

I enjoyed this one, great singer! Amazed that a band this good and this modern sounding were allowed to just disappear

My rating 3.3 This is quite lovely. The harmonies and orchestration make it a pleasant listen.

Very Beetles-esque

Felt like a Sgt. Pepper cover band. 2.7/5

midmidmidmid

Enjoyed this classic

Funky bass, funky songs, feels huge for the 60's

For dette ER jo ganske gubbete, med unntak av "Time of the Season".

Sounds like early Pink Floyd mixed with the Beatles. Very enjoyable! Need to revisit soon.

My thoughts are mixed on this one. I initially thought this was going to be some obscure metal band, but it's like the exact opposite of that... 1968 has the British invasion at full swing and with the Beatles White Album being released I think I started expecting a different sound from this album. I feel like my rating will go up if I ever revisit, but I only got so much time, bruh!

It's the quintessential psychedelic rock album of the '60s. Each song is colorful and happy, but in a thoughtful minor key. And I cannot recall the last time I heard a cheery harpsichord on a pop album.

Pensé que no los conocía pero si los conozco, son los de "Time of the Season" para la canción que más me gustó fue "Brief Candles".

i like 60s baroque pop, and i like this band, but i like sitting through a mix of hits better than an album like this one; there's definitely standouts in the genre to me but i guess to me the high achievement of a really really good pop hit, whether from a very good band like the zombies or even an industry plant, pulled together are what makes this era to me. i'm a big listener of the rhino nuggets compilations is what im sayin. im not an expert but i kind of suspect there was some tension between rock bands in this era of labels' demands for big radio hits to sell the albums and the bands' desire to pull of their own beates esque album of artisic achievement. this was definitely a no-skip but i still don't connect with it as a whole and don't see myself putting it on again, but i will find myself in a youtube zombies tv appearences hole again. fave track beachwood park

Time of the Season being a 5 being as removed as it can be from my rating - it's still a solid 3.

Me moló sobre un 3,5

The thing about music from this chapter of history is that it's all very similar. The only reason this record stands out is because it ends with Time of the Season, which only adds to irony because it has no business being lumped in with the rest of these songs.

It was hard to listen to this and not think this was just another band trying to be the Beatles. Better than some of the other Beatle copycats we’ve heard on this list I guess.

It's not an album I'd listen to on my own, but some of these songs are so sweet that it's hard to be negative about it! Standouts: A Rose for Emily • Beechwood Park • Time of the Season

Yeah, this is funky rock stuff in a good way.

The '60s baroque-pop sound gets old really fast for me, and this has little else going on. I wish this had more of the psychedelia they start to display on Time of The Seasons (which rocks!), but aside from that track, it's just A LOT of harpsichord and horns. Good for them closing out the album on their best song though.

I enjoyed it. Glad to hear Time of the Season.

fine, but im a lil tired of all the british invasion stuff

psychedelic rock oder so.. iwie bissi wie beatles ähnlich. gutes songwriting i guess. gfallt ma gut, nochmal hören, also explizit des, würd i wrsl nit einf weils ma zu wenig gibt. gibt trz paar gute tracks drauf. stabile 3/5

Very 60s, similar to the monkees

quality songs interspersed with songs that are trying way too hard to sound like The Beatles, but the aforementioned quality in the songs that don't shine just bright enough that i can overlook it. 7/10 FAVOURITE SONGS: BEECHWOOD PARK, BRIEF CANDLES, THIS WILL BE OUR YEAR, BUTCHER'S TALE (WESTERN FRONT 1914,) TIME OF THE SEASON LEAST FAVOURITE SONGS: I WANT HER, SHE WANTS ME

Was shocked at the last song, now know the artist and album for that, overall somewhat forgettable

Every song on this album was already saved on Spotify, but not the album itself. I must've added it to a playlist at some point and clearly it made little impression on me. I like a lot of songs by The Zombies, but I don't ever really need to listen to a full LP by them. This one has some bangers but as a whole kinda just drags on.

Time of the season is a classic but I just never felt pulled in by anything else on the album. Adding to my revisit list.

I love Beechwood Park! That was really the only song I knew well off this album prior to listening all the way through. Then I recognized Time of the Season of course. This is a nice listen overall.

Mmmm beatles vibe

Pretty good. Lots of bits reminded me of Spinal Tap’s “Listen to the Flower People” and I couldn’t shake it lol. “Time of the Season” obviously a smash

No too bad.

similar to The Beatles no favs

I love time of the season, the rest were a little too pop for me

Was never one of my favorite ‘60s albums, but definitely a great representation of the aesthetics of the Summer of Love.

Felt like pretty standard British Invasion rock

A few months ago, I became a big fan of Time Of A Season after hearing it on the radio. So I was really excited to listen to this album for the first time today. But it sounds very generic for albums from the 60s. It's good, but I don't see why it's on this list. 3 stars.

Was really hoping there would be something else here almost as good as Time of the Season. There wasn’t, but that’s a high bar

Definetely some good sessions in this.

I didn't realize these dudes did "baroque pop." Nothing sticks out to me here besides 'Time of the Season' (natch) and 'A Rose for Emily'. Still a decent listen. 3.5 stars

Grooovyyyy

Time of the Season is such a great song but on this album it's seemingly an anomaly. The rest of the album is pretty much straightforward run of the mill pop music of it's time. I hate that they used a whole bunch of awesome techniques and things but it seems like it was only on the one song.

Not too bad

Nice and old school. Iwie coole Mischung von beatles und led zepplin/stones Fav: Care of Cell 44

One great song. And then 10 others you could hear from 50 other bands in the late 60s

Sounds like the Beatles but isnt. Definitely sounds like the late 60s

Insane A side, pretty forgettable but still nice B side

not super bland, but not particularly exciting, either. easy listening kind of album (6.4/10)

I can see why this is a classic. I'm famously not a huge vocal person but this works for me. I like it better than early Beatles, I think? I'm also a sucker for being able to hear bass lines and "I Want Her She Wants Me" has that in spades. Oh, and "This Will Be Our Year"! Yeah, good album.

This is good stuff. I was just served up an album by the kinks which was a flop for me but I think this lands. Naturally I compare this music to the Beatles (is that fair? Who knows) and I think this album holds up well. Good early British pop.

Time of the season is a classic. Wished the whole album followed that aesthetic. Fantastic voice but the Beatles influence overshadows

I honestly don't remember anything about The Zombies - all I could tell you beyond the fact of their existence was that the first person I knew to get covid got it at a The Zombies show in 2021. This is pleasant late-60s psych-pop with pretty harmonies and interesting melodies here and there. I remember "Time of the Season," of course, though I never knew what band it was because it didn't interest me much. So I didn't think I'd like this record as much as I did - there's some interesting stuff on here. So this is a reasonably listenable album, though It got a little monotonous around song #8, and the lack of zombie-related content is disappointing. But it was good for what it was. I was amused to learn that "Odyssey" is spelled wrong in the album title because the cover artist screwed it up, but the band wanted to be nice and made up a story to make it seem like they'd planned it that way. 3 stars

Very 60s but pretty good

It was interesting hearing Time of The Season in the context of its album. I can definitely see why it was a one hit wonder because the rest of the album felt completely different and less polished. Not bad overall though. Some hippie vibes.

Easy listen with a nice groove and a few standout melodies. Highlights: "Care of Cell 44", "Brief Candles", "Time of the Season"

Favorite Track: A Rose for Emily

Very Beatles y but I like it better. Forgot to do it in morning (finishing last few songs day after). This is better than the Beatles from yesterday

I can appreciate what The Zombies were and their influence on rock, but this album doesn't do it for me. Time of the Season is a good song and the whole album has the psychedelic 60's vibe to it.

Kind of a sauceless version of the Kinks. Perfectly listenable but mostly a bit too samey. But hey, if you're looking for some stock hippie music you ca- oh shit, its *that* song. Yeah that ones pretty good.

Some good songs... Almost gave it a 4. Amazing how dated this and a lot of other music from the mid-late 60s sounds now compared with what was about to come.

Very cute and experimental! A bit kitschy and i dont know if id personally listen to this casually though, but really loved the lush instrumentation Vocals were competent, didnt wow me

Yeh this was a great sixties album. I knew a couple of tunes but the whole record has a really cool sound.

Ojala todo el álbum fuera tan bueno como "Time of the season"

This was a nice surprise, I feel lucky to listen to something that isn’t Brit pop

Never heard this album before today. I was enjoying the album, it is kind of chill rock/folkish music and then the big hit song that everyone has heard came on and I realized who it was. The whole album is pretty good and would be nice to listen to when in a chilled out mood.

I think this is a good album, really no notes, I feel like it sometimes sounds a lot like the early beatles, but maybe they are from the same time and that's just that,

As I listened to this album (having only heard one song from it previously and knowing nothing about the band) my predominant thought was The Zombies are the love child of The Beatles and The Beach Boys. Just about every song had some piece of one of those band's sounds. This was not necessarily a bad thing at times, but it made for something of a frustrating experience for me. For context I love The Beatles and dislike The Beach Boys, so some of these songs had DNA I could get into and some not at all. The only standout song for me was This Will Be Our Year. And the only song that didn't sound like those other two bands was Time of the Season, which was never a song I cared for all that much but was at least different in this context.

A pretty good folk rock album. Highlights: "Changes" and "I Want Her She Wants Me)

English, cute, decent

That was okay, but nothing outstanding IMO.

God only knows this sounds like The Beach Boys! And well, it has a distinct Beatles sound too but neither are bad things. The final track is extremely famous, and a classic. The story about fake Zombies bands is wild.

me gusto. Mi favorita sin dudas fue “Care of Cell 44”

Not bad

* 69 Hmm. Ja.

I was honestly pleasantly surprised! Its not my usual scene, and even though some tracks are a bit forgettable, the narrative and production got to me. I will definitely be revisiting some of them. Lovedddd A Rose for Emily and Time of the Season, specially.

Got bored and stopped listening half way thru. It was ok tho time of the season is a banger

Most songs are mid except Time of the Season. But if you listen to the album a few times it gets better

One of the instances i wish we could give half stars cause this album was a solid 3.5/5 great songs but some felt a bit repetitive the cover art is great and the songs are fun but i also don’t see myself downloading any of them and listening daily

Ešte som to nikdy predtým nepočul. Patrí k tým lepším produkciam zo 60. rokov. Ale k špičke nie...

Good album, but didn't stand out

Until the last song I thought it was just kind of beatles-esque British late 60s rock. And it's mostly that. But the last song is good and the 1914 one. Overall it's alright.

All these British Invasion bands are starting to sound the same… Overall I liked this album. Time of the season has always been a tentpole of any classic rock station, and “This Will be Our Year” is another classic. Overall a good listen, but I’m content to keep The Zombies reserved to classic rock stations

This was a good Beatles clone, I enjoyed the songs and in general I like the genre. I feel like these guys are good at what they do, but not the best, and they don't push the boundaries in ways other bands of the time did

didn’t listen to the other songs bcs of work but first song was pretty goood GEMV (12.04.2026)

The backstory shared by the top commenter is unhinged. Meanwhile, this is alright.

Was prepared to be disappointed beyond the one hit, but it was enjoyable and relaxing. Even second rate bands of this era are superior to say the 90s or 00s.

Never heard of the zombies. Very gentle, couple of really nice songs

Reminds me of that era Pink Floyd, which I love... psychedelic flower powered rock. Great last song (Time of the Season), but I think I need a few listens to appreciate the rest.

Good grooves, unique sound. Enjoyed the album

Interesting one today. Wishing there was a 2.5 but ill give it a 3. Something about my fucked up brain is that I struggle to pick up words most of the time. So unless im really straining ill likely miss alot of the words in songs. This means that vocal centric music doesn't really work for me, but also most of the time the genre of that music isn't really my thing. This album is both of those things. What I can really appreciate is the quality of the vocals, the melodic arrangement, the harmonies, e. t.c. This album has that, even if the instrumentation (the most important part of any song for me) is fairly boring. I didnt mind listening to it, it just bored me and didnt grab me for the reasons stated. Don't actively dislike it, just not for me. Time of the Season was good.

i much prefer this sound in general i like changes others i found a little boring on average i prefer this more to my other threes but i don't like it enough for it to be promoted to four

these guys are on the middle of a sliding scale between the beach boys and the beatles i think i just dont fw 60s rock that much, i like my rock a bit heavier i like that each song is short but its a little samey. i would probably have these on a playlist for driving but i dont think theyre exactly my vibe. them being shorter songs makes me more likely to like them 3/5

A littl3 dated, but decent

It's not what I expected haha I guess I was thinking of the cranberries. It's very like 60's boy band. It was fun to listen to but I don't know if I would listen again.

Estuvo bueno pero tampoco me mato 7/10

in an alternate universe, this band became the beatles of their era, and i still feel ambivalent about it

This kind of psychedelia always grates a little, but it did get me thinking how you can draw a straight line from here to the Smiths.

I used to own this and find it curious that as of 2026 not every streaming provider even has this. It's quite a decent 60s jaunty, somewhat peculiar album. Enjoyable.

Not super remarkable to me. 3 stars

3/5 para dejar de fondo nomás.

This is a pretty cool album. Quite why it was ignored on release is a bit of a wonder. Still well worth a listen. 3

60s psychedelia and it's fine, but if I was going to listen to this genre I'd go to Forever Changes by Love or something similar. It just didn't stand out for me
