Litt rart å høyre rett etter Beach Boys, men Time of the seasons er jo kul!
Not bad overall. 3/5
Really like this style of music, for me though it's a once and I while type of album. 3/5
Odessey and Oracle – Review There’s no denying the charm baked into Odessey and Oracle. The Zombies were clearly reaching for the same kaleidoscopic universe their peers were exploring in the late sixties, and you can hear the ambition in the harmonies, the baroque touches, and the whole pastel-psychedelic glow of the record. But for all its color, it never hits that upper stratosphere of songwriting or invention that the era’s greats managed to bottle. Most of the album drifts by as pleasant, slightly blurry sunshine pop. It’s enjoyable, sometimes even lovely, but rarely gripping. The melodies are nice; the ideas are there; the execution just doesn’t quite push hard enough to make the songs stick in the long run. Then comes “Time of the Season,” which frankly operates on a different level. That hypnotic bass line, the air and space in the production, the call-and-response—it’s a moment of pure lightning. The problem is that the rest of the album never gets within shouting distance of that magic. In the end, I respect the record more than I love it. It’s a fascinating artifact from the psychedelic era, and it has its charms, but outside of its one undeniable classic, it doesn’t leave a deep imprint. A solid, perfectly fine listen… just not a life-changer. Rating: 3
Enjoyable album but really only one song on here that is unique enough to warrant a second listen, that song being Time of the Season.
Would not buy
60's as hell. didn't appreciate this as much as I did in my teens when I was very into organ-heavy rock to smoke weed to. That said, the live version of this album is really cool to listen to as the band broke up before they could ever polay it in its entirety. Time of the Season is a legendary song that will find itself relevant amid a number of generations of Americans.
Very 60's lol! Enjoyed it quite a lot, wish i was at the beach somking a blunt.
Quite a pleasing listening experience. Nice psychedelic touches and I could hear where influences on UK indie bands has come from
Tunes are very whimsical but the album overall just doesn't grab me all that much. It's quite fun sounding though.
Like a preview what is coming in the 80s and 90s with Brit pop.
good
It's a good album. It's very much Pet Sounds and Pepper influenced, mostly Beach Boys. It's 1968 and the Beatles are releasing the white album, every one pretty much going back to a raw style of rocknroll, so I guess this might be the reason this wasn't much of a hit. 3 for me.
Pleasantly suprised by this album. Poppy , happy ‘60s type melodies but sound quality was much better than other releases around its time
Lots of objectively good stuff here, I suspect, but I wasn't in the best mood for it, unfortunately. Instead of appreciating the understated production and the harmonies and stories, I felt a bit impatient for something to really sock me between the eyes. Time of the Season is definitely the stand-out but still didn't "sock". My favourite Zombies song remains She's Not There. Which is... Not Here.

Enjoyable listen, quite upbeat and happy. Reminiscent of beach boys, easy to listen to.
A lot to unfold with beach boys ripoff, church instruments turning mid track into a daft punk precursor, experimental stuff and an unmatched diversity. Listen when chaos is needed
Better than 99.9% of all the other psychedelic rock that came out around this time, but this genre doesn't do it for me. 3 stars for fantastic recording quality and sound engineering.
Inoffensive and easy to listen to. Perfect background music when guests are around.
Classic 60’s vibe
I know the Zombies by reputation as one of the great bands who never really were, and the story of the 2 fake The Zombies (see top review) is mad, but after listening to this I am underwhelmed. There's some nice stuff in here, and an odd preoccupation with death (maybe appropriate given their name), but the presentation, with the soft vocals and kitsch organ backing, doesn't really do it for me. It was the last song on the album but I recognised Time Of The Season and nothing else. (A bit sad not to hear their best song, She's Not There, but if it's not on this album, it's not on this album).
Alright just some basic 60s music
Delightful classic beach boy esque 60s music
This has always been their best album, and I loved it much more in my youth than I do now. These days, it feels surprisingly dated—more so than many of its contemporaries. Still, it’s a great record that carries a lot of nostalgia for me. Three stars for its quality and the memories, though I doubt I’ll put it on again unless someone else does.
Easy listening, very few skips, however, very few standouts. Time of the Season makes me feel like i am walking through the sixties and for that, it is my favorite track of the record.
Beatles-style band, also has a bit of indie feel
Pleasant listen that has quite sophisticated production. Always perceived and enjoyed the haunting tone to many of their songs, including 'A Rose for Emily' and of course 'Butchers Tale'. The Zombies offer a distinct sound that allowed them to standout even during the height of thr Beatles. Top Tracks = A Rose for Emily & Time of the Season
Nothing that happens on the first 11 tracks lead you to think this is the same band that made "Time of the Season," which is an absolute monster of a song. The rest of the album is more Brian Wilson-adjacent, which means it was never going to be totally for me, but I ended up enjoying my time with it, though I doubt I'll return. Several songs feel overwritten and overproduced. But there's a spark of something I'm responding to; those parts that probably influenced elements Bowie and Queen.
Very stylistic of the time period. Melodic songs that are piano led with a steady drum beat. Reminiscent of the Beatles without the drugs. Middle of the road for me but these songs would never last in today’s music scene. Time of the Season was a nice surprise at the end of the album.
I really liked this album. LIght and fun, very enjoyable listen. Feels like this was the bubble gum pop of the hippie era.
Just beatles
Cool album. Sounded oddly both current & vintage. One generational banger and it's the sound of the late 60's. You can tell they did more psychedelic sounds and possibly even loosened their ties & undid a button (not 2). These guys would have made great monks. Cool nerds honing their craft.
Honestly not sure why this album is so critically acclaimed. The only stand out song for me is Time of the Season. The rest is pretty bland, late 60s British rock. Not bad but not special either.
This is fine. 3 stars, nothing too special here.
⭐️⭐️⭐️
Enjoyed this but expected more, found myself losing interest. Finishes on a high
Just very 60s. I get the impression these were the indie softbois of their day.
On kivaa beatlesmaista meininkiä. Näistä tykkään
Good album!! There were several great songs!
OK
Time of The Season is a 10/10, rest of it is like solid 6/10.
If every song had been like Time of the Season this would have been an easy 5, but honestly most of the majority of this album was too hippy-psychedelic concepty for me. Like a low rent Sgt. Pepper's album which I'm sure heavily influenced this. It's a shame because a lot of the Zombie's other hits are really good.
6.8/10
Love Time of the Season. The rest of the album is OK. Not jazzed.
I am skeptic to the beatles and all the other modern heavy rock sponsors like yes, genesis, hendrix. In 2025 the seed means nothing, so I only appreciate the hit - Time of the Season, Who's your daddy?
lush instrumentals and bright harmonies. delightful and whimsical 60s british psychedelic pop. despite moments of repetition, with several tracks seeming to blend into one, the distinctive sound is nostalgic and evocative of the era; go-go boots, mod dresses and the zebra crossing on abbey road came to mind. 3/5
day 2: i’ve never listened to a beach boys album but this is what i imagine it would sound like. some nice harmonies and some interesting musical sections (trumpet in there somewhere?), but overall does nothing ambitious or outside of the box. not bad not amazing
eh bacaninha, bem feito e menos psicodélico do que eu esperava mas nada demais não. divertidim!!
Mycket trevligt men helheten nådde inte hela vägen till en fyra. Time of the Season är en toppenlåt
Ganska behagligt sound!
Pretty interesting uses of stereo - a relic of the time, I suppose. Some nice guitar on some songs, but the piano and vocals are obviously at the forefront. Was “Time of the Season” a single? If so, it seems like a weird choice!
I've always found Time of the Season to be a decent song, but an entire album in that vein is a little much to take. However ... I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I was driving through rural Oregon while listening, and it was a nice soundtrack for that. And I'll give them an extra star for their crazy story.
This sounds very modern, very indie, very not my jam in larger than one song doses. So, historically interesting and no doubt meritorious, but only getting 3 stars from me because I'll never listen to it again.
Fluffy and light. 60's / early 70's soft, almost psychedelic rock. Okay to have in the background.
The Zombies’ sound blends elements of The Beatles, The Monkees, The Beach Boys, and at times, early pieces of Queen. The harmonies are impeccable and they cover a wide range on this album - from classic barbershop-style pop to ominous psychedelic rock. Not really ‘fuzzy guitar’ psychedelic rock, it’s more the organs, glockenspiels, and woodwinds kind. I had high hopes for this album after the Young Rascals album I reviewed a few weeks ago. This album is a perfectly cliche late 60s pop/rock album, but it leans more pop and that's not what I wanted. “Time Of The Season” is a classic, and there’s a reason it’s used so often in tv/movies to quickly establish a scene in the late 60s, but beyond that, there's not much here for me.
Better hippie stuff than normal!
Was really vibing with it until Butcher's tale. Def was not a fan of that song
For reasons I can’t put my finger on, this agreed with me more than other late 60s music that is stylistically similar.
An album of songs that are in the album.
An uneven ride with a few gems. From the plink plonk to the WAHHHHHH, it’s not bad, not great, but I do love the softness in his voice.
A standard rock record with some high moments
An important record to be sure.
Time of the Season is a good song and this is a good recording. The rest of the record is fairly middle-of-the-road 1960s psychedelic. Lots of tiny cymbals and isolated vocals. Doesn't do it for me.
Pretty cool album! Nothing to write home about imo but well worth a listen
At its best when it's talking about a dude being eaten by flies and writing jail letters, at its worst when it is trying to be a rip off of The Beatles. But still, it was better than I thought it would be, especially since this isn't my type of music typically.
Somewhat interesting. Not what I'd expect for a group called The Zombies.
it wwas something. the big song at the end saved, i think. not super notable otherwise, but nice
The album became good with the last song. Everything else just sounds like a standard 60s band.
I thought this was going to be a straight up Beatles knockoff, but it has a pretty unique sound once you dig in. Things did feel repetitive towards the back end though. Over all I liked but didn’t love this one.
Inoffensive, slightly interesting. Very Beatles-esque but without the avant-garde-ness. Not bad, but not my cup of tea.
Time of the season was the only song I really loved but its ok
03
I don’t think it holds up
few really big, strong moments. Has aged better than a lot of records from this era
chill. 60s. psychedelic.
Of all the things I was expecting with that combination of band name, album name, and album cover, Beatles was not anywhere in my top 5. I was expecting something closer to Jimi Hendrix's flavor of psych rock. It's fine, but really nothing noteworthy, or notable for that matter. I've heard this sound before in like 5 different bands from the same year. Changes was a good standout, though.
There's some albums that have cover art that I just want to have in my home as decoration. This one is a strong candidate if I can find it. The album? It's got that classic late 60's sound. But with better production value. Do I like it? It's fine, but nothing I'd play on purpose. But I also wouldn't take it off the turntable early.
Time of the Season is an all-timer for me. The rest of the album was pretty good, but nothing to write home about.
not really for me
Fín, nokkur góð lög þarna en alls ekki það góð í heild sinni.
There are a lot of 1968 albums on this list. Not an album I know or have listened do but everyone know the giant hit single "Time Of The Season". Not sure how well it stands up today, it sounds dated. "Care of Cell 44" and "A Rose For Emily" are nice songs but forgettable. "Maybe After He's Gone" was solid. "Beechwood Park" feels like it would be a good candidate for a updated remake. "This Will Be Our Year" was a nice little ditty. I read all about the album but I wasn't as impressed as the writers were. It's good, has one all time great hit and some decent filler but not a T1001 album in my book. 3 stars
I think I want to give this a 3.5 just because I liked it more than pet sounds but not that much more? Idk I just wish there were some more options and this was out of 10
I liked this one! Super chill.
Enjoyed it.
It’s like The Beach Boys are trying to be psychedelic and British but only have half the talent. It’s not bad it’s just meh
Some classics, but some a little dated. Amazing for an album 58 years old!
good
This album was very light going, not aure it was my kinda vibe though.
The genre of the album is boring to me, but I appreciate the little stories the songs tell. The lyrics aren't your generic pop song.
Appreciated the different take on that classic 60s psychedelic pop sound. It just didn’t quite come together for me.
This happened and I was there and I would return to this again
Dear Diary, This album is a high three for sure. But then I ate a burrito bowl while listening and almost fell asleep in the middle of the work day. .
ok album. has a very recognizable song.
Nice album 7/10
Eh. Not sure what the big deal is just because there's a single iconic song.
This was disappointing for me. I had higher hopes. Still, it was good, I liked it more on second listen, and I have nothing bad to say about the songs.
It's an alright album, nice to listen to, time of the season really stands out as a single I didn't feel the other songs stood out as much.
I like Time of the Season, and the rest of it is on a par. Not a bad album.
😁
Classic rock goodness
Produit de qualité. Écoute un peu pénible. 3.49 étoiles.
Boring
Great
3,5
Too Beatles-esque for me but still some cool stuff here
Quite a pleasant album to listen through all the way. Nothing stood out as being stellar but it managed to keep fairly upbeat and enjoyable the whole way through.
me ha parecido bastante igual todo el album, aunque es chulo
solid, if generic british invasion fodder time of the season is a classic though
A couple solid songs but not exactly my taste
Is it gay to say Time of The Season is sexy? I don’t want to bang this dude, but someone surely does. Feels like an appropriate descriptor. All time song. Anyway, immediately regretting giving Billy 4 stars, because I gotta go 3 here and I’d rather listen to this I think. Main reason it falls flat is because when psychedelia misses the mark it misses big. Interesting that this sound/movement had already jumped the shark by ‘68. Some great songs in here for sure though.
I love Time of the Season so was excited for this. Other than that song, I liked but didn't love pretty much everything. Feels like a pretty generic 70s baroque-influenced pop/rock band. Some nice harmonies and fun instrumentals, but nothing special other than Time of the Season
Sweet little jangle psych album that feels incredibly dated. Beautiful harmonies, intricate phrasing, and a general ease to the album. But, it feels so simple. I think I'll listen to Pet Sounds instead.
Time of the Season and 11 other related tracks
Extremely 60s, but consistently good songs and interesting music make it a great listen today.
The three songs I already knew (A Rose for Emily, This Will Be Our Year and Time of the Season) are all great but the rest of the album is all a bit of a psychedelic mush to my ears.
I couldn't get into this. it was just okay
Sian would give a 4 :)
Enjoyed but their songs tend to sound a little similar.
Strange ... Ibland låter det som Beatles och nästan lika bra. Ibland låter det som alla brittiska sextiotalsband pre-Beatles, platt och dåligt producerat. Gammalt helt enkelt. En trea
Not bad. It's OK for me.
I'm happy that the Zombies are still going strong. Their album is also good. It's a bit too similar to the Beatles to me. But "Odessey and Oracle" has some surprises of its own. "Brief Candles" is my favourite song on the album. 3 stars for "Odessey and Oracle".
Lindo, pero un poco tranqui en general. Siento una familiaridad que quizá es que los conocía, o es que suenan a todo lo de la época. No sé ni me importa. Nota: 3.0 Nota:
colin bluntstone what a voice
A fun listen, 60s music is interesting to dig into
A couple great songs. Mostly unremarkable. 7/10
I liked this one. Time Of The Season was the only one I had heard before but others were good also. Best song: Butcher's Tale Notable(s): This Will Be Our Year, Care Of Cell 44, A Rose For Emily
Not bad. Good album
When this was recorded, guitar rock/pop music was only 10 years old. They are caught somewhere between wanting to sound like early Beatles and Sgt Peppers Beatles. Time of the Season is a classic, but This Will Be Our Year is a personal all-time favorite.
One of the artsier psychedelic rock albums from this era. Closes with the brilliant "Time of the Season". I wasn't blown away or anything, but enjoyed what I heard to some extent.
Pretty solid, with some Beatles-esque sounds and a few tracks I previously knew too. Won't rush back, but no complaints.
Nice enough Album. Not 100% to my taste in parts but good 60s pop nonetheless. Aside from Time of The Season which I was familiar with, really enjoyed Hung Up On A Dream. Decent.
Me gustaron algunas canciones y la portada
Late 60s pop with a psychedelic, timeless track to finish the album.
I liked it. Not too much stuck out besides the opening track.
It was pretty good. Nothing show-stopping, but good.
I've heard of this psychedelic rock band. Not sure if I have listened to much of their material. Interested to check this out. Typical psychedelic music at the time. Nothing special yet. I am familiar with the last track on the album. Classic psychedelic track. 3-stars
I really enjoyed this album even had a song I recognised on it. I saved a few of the songs during my first listen and will probably like more on a second.
Very definitive sound of the 60’s. Lots of cute love songs, nothing other than butcher’s tale that I was overly impressed with. Butcher’s tale is awesome. I actually think I like chris white’s voice more than colin blunstone’s. Worth a relisten later
I had only ever heard Time of the Season, very pleased with the rest of the album overall.
This was fine
Ok.
Standard brittisk rock, lite ospännande men inte dåligt
I went into listening to this expecting something more like Surrealistic Pillow, and got something more akin to an early Pink Floyd project. Very psychedelic, but serious in its own way. The piano is omnipresent throughout the album, laying a foundation for the sparse yet wide feeling instrumentation. Most notable in my opinion is the ethereal sound of the Mellotron. The vocal harmonies and call and responses throughout the album are very Beach Boys-esque. The performance is solid throughout, but remains laid back, which makes for easier listening all the way through. The mix isn’t the greatest, but I can forgive that because it came out in 1968, and not a lot from that time was mixed well by modern standards. Overall a very chill album, definitely worth a revisit or 2
Hadn't really listened to the Zombies before, a chill start to the journey
The classic ‘nam song Weird WW1 song that is haunting and out of place but maybe my favorite
Not something I’d pull off the shelf, but it’s quality music and I’m sure I would’ve loved it while getting blazed in a field with all my friends in ‘68.
Hippy, dippy, trippy. Sounds like every other good album that came out in this decade. If I were judging this based on the band name, I would have been wrong.
3 if it were playing in the background anywhere but my own device. I gave it a full listen but would skip most of it in any other case, so 2.5. ———————————— My non-musician scoring system. 5 - Love it. Would play anytime, buy, see live… 4 - Good music. 3 - Average playlist. Depends on time and setting. 2 - I can’t listen to whole songs. 1 - No.
how can I be sure this is by the real zombys
Pretty ok, though didn't appreciate being told I'd never find love 2 tracks in. Might have to blame my parents for liking the name :|
Some real hippy-dippy stuff. The whole thing felt elevated by Time of the Season, though. That song feels like it's on a whole different level.
Good album... a little strange. Especially since it's not a "mono version" as it says 🥴 Maybe a little flat sound for my taste.
Sweet
"Odessey And Oracle" is a beautiful album, not outstanding but beautiful. For me, "A Rose For Emily" and of course "Time Of The Season" work particularly well. "Time Of The Season" is a real standout. A song of the century. I have my doubts as to whether "Zombies" is really an appropriate band name. But never mind, the Zombies weren't particularly successful, but they stuck in people's minds with two songs: "She's Not There" and "Time Of The Season." The rest was just stumbling around. Not even particularly gory. More than 3 stars, no. The two hit singles deserve 5, though.
2nd album never quite reaches the level of She's Not There
Good, founded very good at points
Another pale beatles copy, good energy though
Standout Songs: A Rose For Emily Hung Up On A Dream This Will Be Our Year
Fun album!
Very Beatles-y/beach boys-y. Sugary lyrics, nice sounds.
Churns along "Hey we've got John Lennon's mellotron" "Hey we can do harmonies" "Hey, we can start a new bit of the song every 20 seconds" Two standout tracks - "I Want Her She Wants Me" sounds like Belle & Sebastian and "Time of the Season" sounds like it's another band and another album altogether.
Nothing here quite as good as She's Not There (that's a belter that is), but still a good slab of 60s pop. Well worth a listen
Very middle of the road
The album was generally good. Some tracks I vibed with, though I will not go out of my way to listen to again. There is a particular sound arising from early-mid 60s music that just doesn't do it for me, so for some of the tracks on the album I found myself turning off.
So Beatlesque that it almost seems like a pastiche! Nice melodic songs and vocals though.
taman da mi pokvari dojam prethodnika
good at the beginning, good at the end. middle tracks are mediocre.
A lot of songs I liked and one song I really liked.
3 Stars. Just OK. I had the same reaction listening to Pet Sounds because of Brian Wilson's death.
Inoffensive
I love time of the season but the rest is just... meh
leuk plaatje, maar niet onmisbaar
fake beach boys do it good
This was a catchy one. I really enjoyed the production and composition for the most part but the lyrics were kinda tough. I think it may just be a product of its time but if the lyrics were just a bit better and less hippy sounding for more of the album I would have liked it more. “Time of the Season” is great, “cell 44” is solid, “Beechwood Park” was one that stood out for great production/etc. but the lyrics fell flat and were a bit off.
Damn these white boys like to sing, huh? I like this album, it's a pleasant listen. It's very of its time which is both a positive and a negative. Some 60s stylistic choices aren't my cup of tea all of the time (big focus on beach boys esq group vocals) but I'd be knit picking if i was to say that's a massive issue. Most tracks are very breezy, perhaps to their detriment as they teeter on the border of being forgettable. I also appreciate this album as a time capsule for the origins of psychedelic rock. You can really hear the building blocks of the genre. I enjoyed this listen but don't think i will be returning very often.
Better than I had expected. Very fun
Very typical of the late 1960s British pop explosion.
Man what a product of its time! This was definitely an album from the psychedelic rock era, it wasn't the best but it also has one of their most popular songs ever in the changing of the seasons, but beyond that pretty mid
Trippy 60s nonsense but catchy and lyrical
As middle of the road as it can get. Plods along. Nothing bad, but nothing great either. If I had synethesia I’d be seeing a sea of beige.
3.5 stars
Cutesy
Dude, we get it! You like The Beatles. You heard Sgt Pepper's and it blew your mind. You don't need to write an album to tell us. I actually liked the first song. Then it got sort of repetitive. Then I realized they're a Beatles-ripoff. Then I realized every song on this album is a fucking love song except one which is about getting PTSD on the frontline in WW1. Still, better than another punk album.
Reminds me of beatles
-it was good (not great), not something i would reach for again -it was kinda like the beatles but i like the beatles better so
Interesting album and one I have never listened to before. I knew the Zombies and their main song “Time Of The Season” and that’s about it. I must say this album is good. I like the 60s pop sound and this albums experimentation with different keyboard sounds. The album has an interesting production back story and the band broke up at the time of the release so it’s a shame no one saw this band play live. Overall I enjoyed the album but don’t know if I would listen to it regularly. Favorites include “Friends of Mine”, “Beechwood Park”, and Time of The Season”.
This one, like the Iron butterfly we had a while back, is so 60s it’s nearly a parody. But I don’t mean that to sound like a bad thing. It’s just very set in its time. Obviously the big hit here is “Time of the Season”, and it’s probably the best track on this, but I did like many of the others as well. Many songs feature vocals that start to verge on Beach Boys territory- but only if The Beach Boys didn’t annoy the piss out of me. Bottom line - I like it. Not enough to run out and buy a copy, but I’d listen to it again.
Classic.
The whole is somehow less than the sum of its parts? Idk, lots of nice touches, vibes and sounds but somehow overall ends up unmemorable and a bit meh
A lot like The Beatles but prog-rockier
Groovy
I can appreciate the Zombies, not a bad album, would listen again
Solid album.
Poppy rocky, bit like the Beatles? Nothing else much to say? Best track - A Rose for Emily or Butcher's Tale
I thought this would be more interesting, given I'd heard (and liked) a bunch of their songs before. The sad reality is it's just a bit boring. I'd feel harsh going 2.5, but this is a low 3.
very 60s album in every positive way the piano in every song is beautiful on vinyl it would be perfect
This one had me Hung up on a Dream, but I do believe that This Will Be Our Year.
Not bad
Decent album
-so these guys are basically like the British Beach Boys I guess huh…. really good quality music. 60s baroque pop is super interesting to me -not necessarily the kind of thing I would just replay in my free time or anything (with the exception of Time of the Season), and there were some parts that bored me I guess. but I’m glad I listened to it, very solid 3 stars -Favorites are A Rose For Emily and Time of the Season
A pretty good album from the 60's, it does kind of feel like they wrote the same song 11 times and then had a big hit. High 3.
He was too romantic for his time which means he probably beat his wife
Decent
Um dos piores nomes de bandas de todos os tempos. Psicodélico dos anos 60. Harmonia vocal. Legal!
Nice fine dated but groovy
The Beatles came back from the dead and sounded surprisingly more competent than before! Just another British rock album, but a bit more polish than the others. Doesn't save it from mediocrity.
This was fairly interesting. Best track is Beechwood Park
It was alright but I ld rather just listen to the Beatles or beach boys
not my favorite. sounds a lot like rip off beatles after abbey road. time of the season however… that’s a slapper
I think this is okay. I loved care of cell 44 and then I feel like I blacked out in “this is fine mode” until time of the season, a top 1001 song ever. All in all feeling a high three, maybe a light 4.
Perfectly good 1960s album, easy easy listening
This album truly warps time. The 35 minutes it took to listen to it felt like 3 hours. I was checking the clock after the 2nd song. I just don't enjoy this music. I will give them credit though, Time of the Season is such an iconic 1960s song. It's one of those 5 or 6 songs they use in film and TV to make sure you know a scene is taking place in the 60s. Other than that, I don't know why I'd ever listen to any of this again on purpose.
The last song is the best but the rest of the album is perfect to listen to and do laundry!
Not my thing. Listenable but nothing outstanding to me.
zympa
This album was a lot more subdued than I was expecting. I was hoping for a psychadelic jam session, and there is some of that, but this one was a quieter, more melancholy trip to the 60s. It was kind of a refreshing listen. Not a lot to get you pumped up but I got invested in the lyrics and the stories being told. The lyrics are arguably better than the music here. Standouts were: "Brief Candles," "Changes," "This Will Be Our Year" - loved the piano and lyrics - "Time Of The Season" All in all, a pretty good listen and a solid 3/5 album because it didn't do much to move me from neutral, but it was enjoyable and I wouldn't complain if I listened again some day.
I can feel my hipster bona fides strengthening with every track! lol I didn't know much about these guys before this morning, but it's kind of amazing to me that (at least according to Wikipedia) four of the five of them are still alive. The story of recording this album is interesting and sad (tl;dr: they broke up before it was released, and then "Time of the Season" became a hit after they weren't a band anymore.) Based on this album's reputation, I expected more of these songs to sound familiar to me. Like from TV shows and movies maybe?
It was okay! Not really my vibe but i didnt hate it <|:^)
Sounds so dated now, but what can you say about the band that gave us Argent and Colin Blunstone. Features their hit single "Time of the Season".
Less interesting than the band name implies, but cool proto-psychedelic rock
Was fun didn't have any songs that I hated was a good listen.
I liked the first song of the album and didn’t find any of the songs to be bad. Overall though, wasn’t the biggest fan of the album and I’m just not super into this style of music. 3/5
Start was good, middle was again super boring but good last song
I liked it, but can't say I loved it. 'Care of Cell 44' was good, then it lulled until 'This Will Be Our Year,' the best song on the album, saved the last four songs.
Didn’t try anything extraordinary but overall a pretty pleasant listen. Care of Cell 44 was strong and Changes was pretty creative, nothing else stood out much
It was fine
3.6 Roentgen.
Some solid choruses and fun writing here and there, but nothing particularly special. Don't really care for the vocals, and instrumentation has that characteristic 60s' outdated, recessed sound, which I don't like. It takes a lot to make me care about a pop record, and although this album is fine, it doesn't do enough.
Much of it sounds as cheesy as you remember most British Invasion songs of the early 60s sounding. Then comes "Time of the Season."
Nicely played, I liked how the lyrics on several of the songs weren't quite what you would expect from the sunny psychedelic music - a trick the Cardigans would also employ much later on their 2nd album. Interesting to compare with Zappa - there the subversion of theme felt a little like being whacked with a sledgehammer at times, while this was much more subtle.
Nicely psychedelic with lovely beach boys esque harmonies. If I didn’t know better and was not familiar with their local history (blue plaque outside the Blacksmith Arms, St Albans) and references to local landmarks (beechwood park). I’d have guessed this was a west coast band every day of the week. A bit inconsistent, with a classic of a last track. Will give a more focused listen sometime.
it's cute! nice to study with, pretty relaxing. beechwood park has a really nice sound to it! thought i wouldn't like it originally just because of the year but i guess this really proved me wrong. time of the season is rightfully popular. really cute! like a 6/10
Fun psychedelic 60s rock tunes. Easy listen but nothing stood out all that much.
Similar to the beatles
Pretty cool, not my genre 100%, but i could see myself re-listening and gaining deeper enjoyment. Neat to hear some songs ive heard in movies/tv.
Enjoyed this on the whole, but some tracks were pretty meh. Sounds a bit like the Beatles. 60s psychedelia.
The Zombies oder au twins vo The Beatles. Glichi vibes strömed da uf, weiss nöd öbi s chönt unterscheide. Good quality aber catcht mich halt doch nüm so, entweder hends biz pech gha das nöd ganz so klappt hed wie d beatles oder es hed ne s chline quentchen gfehlt zum die grösste z werde. jänu, 3 blumegig blüte i de Haare
lang isch s‘her sit mer en the [insert random ass word] band us de sixties z‘bsuech gha hend so für kaffee und kuchen voll easy, müesst sie ez aber momentan gad nöd zwingend mit emne 5 gänger bechoche und erst recht nöd mis gästebett herrichte und es schöggeli uf‘s chopfchüssi tue defür gids aber 3 trocheni amaretti zum kafi dezue p.s: was meineder wie vill grafiker:inne hend bim briefing für es liecht psychedelischs album cover das bild im ahang gha?
Time of the Season is still brilliant. Like, crazy good. The rest, however, never gets anywhere close. More like British Beach Boys.
A psychedelic trip
Another psychedelic late sixties beauty.
An OK listen. Good harmonies on the vocals, a couple of real stand out tracks and lyrically interesting, but didn't really grab me in a certain way.
Good 60s pop/rock. Nothing special or no big standout songs (other than Time of the Season), but good for an easy summer-y listen.
I did not use a private spotify session for this one. I knew several of these songs. Overall it's a good upbeat album with a lot of nice harmonizing. "Care of Cell 44" is a track on some playlist, it seems like a typical love song until you listen to the lyrics and hear a song about a lover being released from prison. The album is too dated to make into constant rotation, but it's still good.
3/5 Very artistic and vocally dominate with great keys.
6/10
Time of the Season is a wonderful song, most of this was pretty average late 1960s rock for me, and a 3 star
It’s ok.
Time of the season!!
Time of the Season is still brilliant. Like, crazy good. The rest, however, never gets anywhere close. More like British Beach Boys.
It's amazing how much this sounds like the Beatles.
jobb mint bármelyik pszichedelikus album amit eddig hallgattam itt, de ez még mindig csak 3 és fél
Other than Time of the Season, this was kinda boring.
It’s fine? I think I’m just getting real tired of this era of music - there are a lot on this list.
Some undeniable tunes on here. Great arrangements and production, too. Probably deserves a higher rating just for the craftsmanship. But something about that 60s psych sound just doesn't really vibe with me.
Great for its time. A bit too ‘easy listening’ for my tastes but I’m a sucker for a Hammond organ so it finished in a high note. 3/5
Solid psychedelic album with many forgettable tracks for me. But Time of the Season is just so good and oozes sexiness. I love the keyboard/organ solos especially.
Nice, laid back chill 60s vibes. Beatles before the Beatles got super innovative. And a little less talented. Easy to imagine this playing in the background of a chill spring day, but there's nothing here to elevate it above the mass of 1960s music. Hung up on a dream is aight
There are a couple good songs that bump this up from the 2/5 to 3/5 that I want to give it, but overall this just seemed like generic Beatles knock-offs
If not for "Time of the Season" this would not be deserving of a spot on the list imo. There is a lot of chamber pop that exceeds the majority of this album. But that song alone I think does justify the inclusion.
Nice, a bit like The Kinks at their mellowest
care of cell 44- 6 a rose for emily- 6 maybe after hes gone- 6 or 7 beechwood park- 6 or 7 brief candles- 6 or 7 hung up on a dream- 5 changes- 5 i want her she wants me- 5 this will be our year- 5 butchers tale- 5 friends of mine- 5 time of the season- freaky. 5
Niet geweldig, wel goed. En het laatste nummer is het beste
Time of the Season saves a middling album
The album is a very enjoyable with some very upbeat, major tones. However, it is very apparent the technology in music was lacking at the time therefore not hugely impressing me. Would recommend to others who want an easy listen. Big fan of the use of the organ
I can see why this album didn’t gain more traction coming out of the British scene in 1968. The Beatles and Stones were already generating more interesting tunes by this time. Had this album come out between 1963-1965, it may have been a different story. Started off strong with Care Of Cell 44 as the Zombies did their best Beach Boys impression. Tunes became less interesting as the album wore on though, until ending with Time of the Season. Still solid. Top Tracks: 1. Care of Cell 44 2. Time of the season All other tracks are perfectly fine, ranging from interesting to bouncy to a bit of psychedelic dread. 6/10
Happy, Hippie 60s music. Lots of sunshine-y themes. They did "Time of the Season"
Not what I was expecting! Lots of harmonies; sometimes, it almost reminded me of a musical. Theater.
Classic tea-and-cakes Brit psychedelic pop. “Time of the Season” is actually my least favorite track - it sounds annoying compared to a banger like “Our Year”. Good groovy stuff.
Never heard of these, enjoyed this though. A very good version of 60s pop/rock/pysch. Care of Cell 44 and Changes were my two favourites. Definitely flirts with that Beatlesy sound, but with more poppy harmonies at times. Cant see this ever being a thing I return to, but canny nonetheless. 3.5
Sort of a Beatlesy 60s band with some mamas and papas style vocals on occasion. Very of it's time, mostly in a good way. It's a step up from inoffensive but not sure that quite makes it interesting. A quick look through the track list and I cant remember any particular songs. 2.5.
Easy listen, not memorable
60s. Psychedelia. Vocal harmonies. Short songs. Absolutely average album. Good songs, nothing remarkable.
Good music
Time of the Season is far and away the stand out track of the album. I didn’t mind it as a whole. Quick listen, very 60s.
60'a "psychedelic" is generally a genre I hate so I went in with low expectations. This was a really well written and executed album. Missing a lot of the over the top annoying shit this genre usually brings with it. I really liked the vocalist and the production. The back story on this band makes them even more interesting.
Happy shizzle
This was better than I expected and I actually recognized a few of these songs. My favorite was “A Rose For Emily”. 3.5/5
This is an album that a lot of people are obsessed with. I don’t get it. I’ve given it a few tries but it just doesn’t do anything special for me.
Mixed feelings on this one. Time of the Season is a great song, but totally different than the rest of the album. This is my least favorite genre of British music. Despite that, many of the songs were catchy even with the random chunky chordal progressions that I typically dislike.
Pleasant hippie psychedelic rock
It’s pretty good, starts well but I was fading towards the end
Me dio muchas vibes de los Beatles, me gustó Rating:7
It was pleasant, and upbeat. Well done but nothing that really excites me
A rose for Emily is beautiful. Shame the rest doesn't live up to that standard.
Forgettable and not my favorite 60s album
60's british rock oh no I'm gonna hate this aren't I? Actually not bad, not great either but a solid album
Nice one!
i actually rellay enjoyed this, cool soundscapes and melodies. i just love psychedelic music. 7/10
Solid late 60s psychedelic rock. The last song was the only one I recognized and was easily the best on the album. Favorite: Time of the Season
спокойный рок вайбик, моментами слишком однообразно и песни незаметно меняются, но парочка запоминающихся есть
time of the season is one of the best songs ever made
Psychedelic Pop with a large sound and nice harmonies. Time of the Season is the big stand out here and the backstory on the recording of this album are more interesting than most.
Time of the Season was good; the rest didn’t really do it for me.
Pretty good 60s rock, nothing too standout.
It was okay. The second six songs were better than the first six songs.
Bit busy, so this became background noise. I did appreciate it though.
I've not heard this band before, apart from Time of the Season, which for some reason I thought was done by The Mamas & The Papas. Seem to sit squarely between the Kinks and the Beatles. Good harmonies, sometimes odd songwriting. OK overall, but I wouldn't come back to it. 2.5/5, rounded up for the last song
