I liked this! Has a Beetles type vibe.

Sounds like a good mix between the Beatles and Beach Boys

Classic baroque pop

3.6 Stars - Could be higher Some great songs on here. A band I will dig into after realising I know a few songs but nothing of them

I’ve suffered from “late 60’s psychedelic music fatigue” during this whole listening project, but this album is great! I had heard it a few times before today because it’s one of those albums which are always mentioned as “one of the greats”. It’s wonderful - and short. Time of the Season is such a great classic. I could have been without a couple of the songs towards the end though, like This Will Be Our Year and Butcher’s Tale

7/10 - Very nice listen, not too much to take away from it but that its a very nice album

Such a strong start, Care of Cell 44 goes hard. Fun melodies throughout, 1960s pop rock is in a class of its own.

it's hard to listen to The Zombies without comparing them to their main inspiration, The Beatles - they obviously took a lot from Revolver and Rubber Soul and put it into this album. Unfortunately for The Zombies, no one does The Beatles like The Beatles, but the songs that really make this album are the ones where they step away from that influence a little and try something unique; it's no surprise to me that This Will Be Our Year and Time Of The Season are the two fan favourites. Honestly this album gets a 4 just for Time Of The Season but if they leaned more in their own creative direction then this album could be goated for me

First listened on my commute where it was crowded and far too warm and I thought “this is just the Beatles but shit” and then I listened again on a walk and realised I actually really liked it. Strange to realise I knew the last track after not recognising any of the rest. When I gave it a proper shot in a good mood I thought the songs were fun and enjoyable and that there was a good variation across the album to keep it interesting. Fav song: Time of the Season - I also liked This Will Be Our Year and Brief Candles Least fav: Changes

One if my favourite covers so far and also a decent album. Best song is the end one and also the only one I recognised. Big fan of the vibe overall as well. So 60s. Specific rating -4.0 Fav song - time of the season Least fav- I want her she wants me

The band name made me think it would be rock, the album art gives psychodelic vibes and the album title gives pretentious poetry but what it actually was is lovely 60s pop music. Favourite: Time of The Season (or This Will Be Our Year) Least: Butcher's Tale

Enjoyed this a lot. Highlights: Care of Cell 44, Time of the Season

Some quite sad lyrics with quite uplifting sounding tunes, a combo I enjoyed. Time of the season bumped this up for me

I loved this album! British music in the 60s was just miles ahead of the Americans. Finally an album that saves the best for last as well! Fav songs: Care of Cell 44, Time of the Season

Evo jedan do i ja ulazim u goginu psihodelija je meh kategoriju😃lipo je doduše

A pleasant Album to listen to while cooking.

Love me some good 60's baroque pop

Very Nice

It's amazing how a band who isn't the Beatles can sound so much like them. This wasn't what I was expecting, but in a pleasant way.

Care Of Cell 44 - 5/5 A Rose For Emily - 4/5 Maybe After He's Gone - 4/5 Beechwood Park - 5/5 Brief Candles - 5/5 Hung Up On A Dream - 4/5 Changes - 3/5 I Want Her She Wants Me - 4/5 This Will Be Our Year - 4/5 Butcher's Tale (Western Front 1914) - 3/5 Friends of Mine - 4/5 Time of the Season - 5/5 Average score: 4.2/5 lovely blend of baroque pop and psych rock. it's a little like Beach Boys vocals with Beatles instrumentals favs: Care Of Cell 44, Beechwood Park, Brief Candles, Hung Up On A Dream, Time of the Season least favs: Changes, Butcher's Tale

This was pretty fun, obviously I knew Time Of The Season, but I really enjoyed reading about the Fake Zombies.

Great psychedelic pop record. I first heard it earlier this year and had it on repeat. Recently learned about the story of a “U.S” version of this band that was assembled after time of the season became a sleeper hit. What a crazy story. Fun to revisit this one.

friends of mine was so cute

pretty good, nothing stood out to me

These recordingss feel dated in a way the Beatles do not, sound equipment has come a long way. That said, this is a fun romp start to finish. Groovy.

Classic psych pop. Not familiar with most of the songs and was an enjoyable listen, interesting that the last song on the album was the big hit.

Psychedelic gem!

First listen: sweet and boppy - I enjoy the light-hearted energy of the album. The lyrics are joyful, floral, with depth and literary prose. Simple, but poetic. I really enjoyed the songs Changes and This Will Be Our Year.

very fun! some production sounded similair but girls just wanna have some is such a classic. plus the betty boop inspiration of ‘he’s so unusual’ is unique and the transition to ‘yeah yeah’ was crazy. pure 80s’

Very late 60s sound that was pleasant to listen to. I knew the song “Time of the Season” before, and it was a good representation of the album.

I love the Zombies. The only song I'd heard before on this album was Time of the Season, and it was actually the song that stuck out for me the most in this list for some reason. Maybe because I know (and love) it so well, I don't know. But yeah, I've never heard a Zombies song I didn't like, and this was no exception. Wonderful melodies, great harmony choices -- a couple of the songs sounded very much like other songs to me (98.6 by Keith and another song I can't recall now, but something of the same era), and I had several moments when I was reminded strongly of the Beatles and Freddie Mercury through this album. Anyway, I really liked it. Four stars.

Care of cell 44 on of my favourite 60s songs

It's the time of the season for The Zombies. Never heard the full album before, really dug the full album!

A delightful album for a warm, sunny, spring morning.

Some of the songs were nicely unsettling. Pretty good musicality. A worthwhile album. Not going to be listening on repeat.

Much better than I thought it would be. Sometimes albums from this era are cookie cutter but I enjoyed this a lot. It may not be 4 stars objectively, but on a personal level, I had a lot fo fun listening to it.

interessante

So thats who sings Time of the Season. I have never got into the Zombies. I enjoy the music and its nice to listen to. Would listen again for sure, but would not see myself buying it. I give it a solid 4 stars

Damn, The Zombies

It was big vibe

So 60s! Beatles vibes! Nostalgia! Has one of my all-time fav songs Beechwood Park, and mega-hits Time of the Season and Care of Cell 44.

Love it

it would be four, five with faulkner

Interesting mix of pop, rock and hippie influences. Probably would have listens to this a lot backing the day. Sounds just a bit juvenile compared to other late 60s rock. A bridge album between silk pop and psychedelic rock.

I liked this album. I only knew one of the songs but enjoyed them all.

4 day album I has/like streak #musicsky #albumsky 4/5

Amazing album, such a beautiful sound of the 60s. I feel there’s one song on it though that always gets skipped and let’s it down, butcher’s tale

Surprisingly good. Really nice 60s vibes and I quite liked it. It has flavours of the post Revolver Beatles and was just all round fun!

To the uninformed listener (aka me) this felt like the Beatles with a bit more variety in sound as well as lyrics that were a bit more elaborate. Friends of Mine was beautiful. Butcher‘s Tale was a big surprise - an expressive, positive one! Giving one star for this track alone. This was just a nice album!

Love song, love song, love song, love song, love song, love song, love song, love song, love song, horrifying Western Front song, love song, all time classic song What a charming album. Rose for Emily made me miss the times when bands used diminished chords regularly. All around excellent piece of work. Hearing Time of the Season at the end was a hilarious curve ball after the rest of the album passed with hardly anything recognizable. It's like looking through a random photo album and finding Barrak Obama randomly dancing at the end; no Michelle, no other celebrities, just the former POTUS closing the thing out. All around great, but I don't think I'll be coming back to it regularly. I can see how this band was forgotten even though I bet they had several great albums in them if they had the chance.

As expected this was a great album. Ends with Time of the Season, just great!

4.5 stars! i’m shocked that the only song i really knew was Time of the Season, and i like every other song better. a really great album

Fuck I finally got caught up to the current album... There were elements of this album that were really strong. Time of the Season is a fantastic song. I wouldn't say I love The Zombies, but they definitely have their place as a strong band against the other British pop bands at that time. It's tough rating this album after listening to Abbey Road yesterday, but I'm still giving this a healthy 4.

This is really good. Melodies and harmonies are among the best the Beatles or beach boys had and it was cool to get all three artists so close together during this project. Overlooked band that has some really sweet songs

Strong, classic album that was fun to listen to as someone who didn't recognize the band at all. Absolute jumpscare at the end hearing such a recognizable song, one of my favorites of the sixties. If the rest of the album was even a little bit of the same quality as Time of the Season it'd have been an easy 5, but the rest is just solid, giving it a 4.

there's better psych around lol changes is fun and time of the season obviously (low-key this album is only here because of it) 3.5??

Psychadelic brother. I think the compariosn to jefferson airplane in similar artists is apt.

I'm into this album, some good songs, almost like the Kinks.

Muy guay, sonido clasico y algunos temazos. Me recuerdan a los beatles

I am a sucker for good vocal harmonies I guess. Carpenters, Zombies, Beach Boys, Animal Collective, Grizzly Bear, etc. There are some well played classics on this album, but despite this, I feel like The Zombies are a criminally underrated band. This is interesting stuff and the album is consistent from start to finish. I am sure some of this was cutting edge in the day. Got lost in the shuffle of the British invasion maybe. There was a lot going on..

Pleasant psych rock album, didn't fully hit with me, but definitely something I could easily listen to again

Sounds so similar to the Beatles! Care of Cell 44 is an instant hit. Really goes to show that British rock was doing something special in the 60's. The studio (Abbey Road) really shines through too. And of course, Time of the Season remains an all time classic.

Good start, Good Finish, mid middle, Low 4 stars

Time of the season alone makes this a winner, but enhanced by all that surrounds it. Up late moving boxes basement, watched the hot mess that was Y2K

great start, great finish, great in between!

Enjoyable

Oh, I'm familiar with this one already. I listened to it in full for the first time because it's mentioned in one of Mark Fisher's K-Punk posts, or maybe in the intro to Acid Communism (which I read in the K-Punk book after he died because I'm a little too young to have been reading a leftist academic's blog in 2016). Good record, classic 60s psychedelia

great bass

A fine album that doesn't just sound like it is copying whatever the Beatles were doing at the time.

Felt like the band went through a metamorphosis as the album progressed, culminating in the hit single, "Time of the Season". The songs start out sounding very 'flowery' and hopeful, incorporating overlays and harmonies. Towards the end of the album, however, the sounds felt more polished and interesting. It may also represent the transition from the 60s to the 70s.

A great album I've never listened to before. The story behind it makes it even more wild that it's held up for more than 50 years.

Liked all the harmonies (the singles especially). Mostly more interesting than standard 60s fare..

Good songs and sound but it’s missing something that would have pushed it to 5 territory. Some kind of edge. It’s a little up and down too. Otherwise, like the songs are great and obviously I love the genre. But yeah it’s merely really good, not perfect.

Surprisingly good album, sorta reminds me of OKGo? Anyways, liked it.

Butcher's tale is an excellent song

Didn't make it through the entire album but enjoyed the parts I listened to. Interesting harmonies and melodies that give a very specific feeling about a place in time. the album sounds very indicative of the time period.

I’m almost embarrassed this is my first time hearing Odessey and Oracle. It feels like discovering some sacred text that everyone else had tucked into their back pocket years ago. Not just a great album—this is a beautiful one. Tender, strange, melodic, and overflowing with a kind of quiet grace that’s hard to pin down. There’s something ancient and modern about it. You can hear the era—the late-60s optimism, the baroque arrangements, the dreamy harmonies—but it somehow sidesteps nostalgia. It feels alive. Songs like Care of Cell 44 and This Will Be Our Year glow with this wide-eyed warmth that’s completely disarming. They’re hopeful without being naïve. They believe in love, but also know what it costs. And then there are the moments that feel almost ghostlike—A Rose for Emily, Changes, Beechwood Park. These are the kinds of songs that walk slowly. They leave room for silence, for reflection. There’s a soft ache beneath them, like they’re grieving something unnamed. It’s not sadness, exactly—it’s more like acceptance. A gentle holding of time and memory and the ways we don’t quite know what to do with either. I think what moved me most is how complete the album feels. There’s no filler. Nothing that feels tossed-off or accidental. It’s not trying to be impressive—it just is. That kind of clarity is rare. And maybe that’s why I feel both so grateful and a little sheepish for coming to it this late. It was waiting, and I just hadn’t been ready to hear it. If there’s a flaw, it’s only that a few songs veer slightly into the overly whimsical (Friends of Mine felt like a detour), but even then, they’re held with love. The whole thing feels handcrafted, intentional, and deeply human.

Loved it - a breath of fresh air

A couple of great songs

Nice vocal harmonies

This was a nice find! Good stuff Haven't heard Time Of The Season in ages, so that was a nice surprise 4 ⭐️

Time of the Season bliibt aber en Banger und hebt de ganzi Trip vo zwei uf drü wiiteri Sprützer.

83/100. The Zombies' Odessey and Oracle is a good baroque pop-rock album, with a hint of psychedelic tendencies. It's a very easy listen—some tracks definitely stand out more than others, but this is a pretty complete record overall.

4.5 stjerner

Das Album ist generell gut. Besonders aber sticht Time of the Season heraus.

Psychedelic from the late 60’s! I enjoyed this one with favorites being Care of Cell 44 and of course Time of the Season. Similar sound to many bands of the late 60’s. I guess that’s what it was all about. Peace✌️

1. Care of Cell 44 - 8/10 2. A Rose for Emily - 7.8/10 3. Maybe After He's Gone - 8/10 4. Beechwood Park - 8/10 5. Brief Candles - 8.5/10 6. Hung Up on a Dream - 8.5/10 7. Changes - 7.8/10 8. I Want Her, She Wants Me - 8.5/10 9. This Will Be Our Year - 8/10 10. Butcher's Tale (Western Front 1914) - 7/10 11. Friends of Mine - 8/10 12. Time of the Season - 9/10 8/10

I liked it quite a lot, although it didn’t seem like the most groundbreaking, deep or soulful thing

An absolute joy. An album I can’t believe I’ve never heard before, and one I’m so glad to have found. Lovely album by a band who deserve more recognition.

Pretty good. Maybe another listen

Pretty good. Like some of the songs

Care of Cell 44 A Rose for Emily This Will Be Our Year Time of the Season

What a wonderful surprise. Right from the opening harmonies of Care of Cell 44, which then carries on throughout. Beautiful stories are told. The album sounds like 1967. Never trust a hippy, apart from The Zombies.

So many of these 60 psychedelic bands just didn't get it. This band got it. And they didn't get the game since they broke up. Such a shame. This record is pretty good. Good enough that I went and listened to their other albums too.

Favorite Track: Time of the Season

This album is very good. Fantastic 1001 album worthy: 59/108

Underrated.

decent. very 60s ballad, synthy, piano based album. 8.

Really great album - a nice find!

Well wrought 60s pop.

Stond al een tijdje op mijn lijstje. Superinteressant album!

Didn't think I knew who these guys were, but I did! Enjoyed it. Very 60s sounding. I guess a bit like cream? Not sure I'm at the level of a signed framed picture, but was good none the less.

I was looking at this pick and saw Psych Rock as a description and immediately groaned. A few songs in and I was already enjoying the heck out of the album. By the end I can say that was a very entertaining romp this morning, and one I did not expect.

Thoughts before listening: 60s psychedelic pop rock that is often cited among the best of that era. I believe I have listened to this before, and that it has 2 or 3 absolute classics that are surrounded by a lot of meh. That seems to be the case with many of the 60s bands on here where the singles clearly standout from the rest (the Beatles are an exception). Review: This sounds like Pet Sounds meets Sgt Peppers. It has the harmonies and orchestration of the former but the solid rock backing of the latter. There are some outstanding songs on here, and I'd say this is deserving of the praise it gets. 4-stars

4 stars

A very comfy listen. Another one of those where I find myself stopping what I'm doing to listen, and find I'm tapping my foot more than usual.

First? 4/5 Again? 4/5

I'm sure I'm not alone in seeing The Zombies on here and having no idea who they are. I'm also sure I'm not alone in seeing The Zombies and thinking they're probably some early punk bands like the Misfits or Iggy Pop and the Stooges. Of course, that second notion was dispelled about 5 seconds into the opening track. As for the first? We'll get to that in a bit. Imagine, then, my surprise at finding out The Zombies are a Beatles-esque band from the late 60s. Perhaps even capitalizing on The Beatles earlier sound that they had moved on from quite a bit by this point. Despite my slight accusations of imposterism, I actually really enjoyed this album. The melancholy baroqueness of the strings with the rich, textured layers of vocal harmonies made for easy listening. Odyssey and Oracle is no White Album (released the same year, believe it or not) but it's damn good at what it does. Oddly enough, the final track is the album's most popular track: "Time of the Season". So, it turns out, I have heard of The Zombies. Well, maybe not them as a band but certainly their hit single. But I guess that's the curse of one hit wonders. Everyone can know your song and not know your name. Which, in The Zombies' case, is even more extreme because this song didn't become popular until after they had broken up and moved on to other projects. The Zombies were so far forgotten that fake bands were made to your in their place. I highly recommend reading the Wikipedia for those one (and reading some of the reviews here) to read about their crazy story. All in all, it's good. I mean, really good. What a strange fate the members of The Zombies suffered after recording such a great album.

Not super exciting, but also not bad. Classic 1960s pop music. Contains the legendary song „Time of the Season“, which is probably why it’s in the list. Interesting that this song is musically quite sophisticated (solos, etc.), but the rest of the album is rather not. That song makes it a 4/5 rather than a 3/5.

Überraschend gut, und natürlich Time of the Season

Time of the season is such a huge song, rest of the album was pleasant enough

From the opening notes of Care of Cell 44, you know you're in for something special—the bittersweet story of a lover returning home, set to an upbeat, almost baroque melody. Tracks like A Rose for Emily and Brief Candles are delicate and melancholic, while This Will Be Our Year radiates hope. And then, of course, there’s Time of the Season, the album’s eventual hit, with its hypnotic bassline and cool, detached sensuality. What makes Odessey and Oracle so magical is how effortlessly it balances sadness and joy, nostalgia and forward-thinking ambition. It’s an album that feels intimate yet timeless.

A really good record. A bit of its time in terms of 60's pop rock and lots of beach boys and beatles influence but it has some great songs besides the one song everyone knows by them where the chorus sounds like them opening up a can of coke and sipping in a commercial. A rose for emily, this will be our year, beechwood park and a butcher's tale are my standouts.

This album was lovely to listen to while cooking and some of the tracks seemed like psychedelic rock which must’ve been newer at the time, as this was a late 60’s album. Also I didn’t realize I was going to recognize a song off of this either which was cool.

Very good. Catchy, mellow, gentle. I like this album and it has some great moments, but I don’t seem to like it as much as some critics.

A genuine classic, one of those 60s psychedelic albums that gets slept on. A couple of hits here but even the deep cuts are great.

Really good, really 60s. Not quite up to a 5 for me. Time of the Season is an all time great, though.

It’s sad that this was their pinnacle and swan song.

More Beach Boys-y than I expected! Sun-kissed and lovely

Fun 60s psychedelic rock album. Great arrangements and emblematic of the genre.

Lots of good tracks on this. Some of which I never realized were them until now. Kind of like how I never realized they originally did This Will Be Our Year. I've heard so many covers of this without realizing this was the original.

Better than I thought it would be. Songs kind of mesh with the distinctive sound but it is an overall very good album.

Pretty classic

It’s the time of the season…

Feels like a mix of the Beatles (Sgt. Pepper vibes) with the vocals of the Beach Boys. Had this on in the background so I didn't give it the closest listen, but it was mostly good. Really enjoyed the songs: Care of Cell 44, Changes, This Will Be Our Year (piano sounds like something straight out of a Beatles album), Time Of The Season (heard this one plenty of times). Landed at 3.5 stars and willing to bump to a low 4.

Classic retro sound. Really dig it.

Sorta reminds me of the Beatles in their psychedelic phase. Although I am staunchly in the Stones camp in the age old "Stones or Beatles" conversation starter, I do like them a lot better after they discovered acid. All this to say, I dig this album a lot. This would be a good album to listen to while hanging out by the pool, or cooking, or working on a motorcycle.

Nostalgic

ENGLISH ENGLS ENGLISH

Love the classic Time of the Season as well as Care Of Cell 44 and a Rose for Emily.

Fun, Kinksy

I'm a sucker for this era, such great music and this is in there.

Another 60s Album that makes me think “yes, this is 60s music”. I would never seek this out. None of this means it’s bad, I’m clearly just a hater. 4 stars.

A example of 1960’s psychedelic rock. The song “Time of the Season” still rocks

I enjoyed the instrumentals more than anything.

I saw these old geezers live at a local venue. It was pretty fantastic. 3.5 stars.

What a gem

I like this. I only knew A Rose for Emily in passing. Good melodies, good songwriting. Will revisit.

Rose for Emily en time of the season wel het beste. 3,5 rounded up

bangers

Flawless production and instrumentation. One of the few albums that came close to what the Beatles were doing in the mid-late 60’s. I applaud them for being so pro-harpsichord. Having said that, I found the back half to not be as strong as I remembered, with one song I’ve never liked. Standouts: Care of Cell 44, Beechwood Park, Brief Candles, This Will Be Our Year Turd In the Caviar: Butcher’s Tale

This was brilliant. I knew of the band from a couple of songs but really enjoyed this slice of 60s pop. Even the recording quality, fairly typical at the time, doesn't detract from the diamonds in the rough. Time of the Season is the big one, but This Will Be Our Year is a beautiful song that could have been released the decade after.

When I was tween I was annoyed because I wish I'd been born growing up in the sixties when there were things to protest about. Be careful what you wish for. I imagine this would have been the soundtrack to my youth had I been born then.

Spelling mistakes Fake Takes American Zombies controversial Cover band touring USA y'all Music is timeless Songs ageless Sixties man You should have been there, man

two English pop albums from 1968 in a row? I should play the lottery again! if the Kinks were operating largely apart from pop trends of their time while they were recording Green Village Preservation Society, the Zombies were much more in line with those trends. it may have even been to their detriment; despite the excellence on display here in the songwriting department (and the pristine production!), Odessey and Oracle didn't make much of an impression upon release. it was only after the album flopped on the charts and the Zombies broke up that "Time of the Season" suddenly took off as a hit in America, and people finally began to take notice of the band's craftsmanship! they've got a bit of a reputation for being a one-hit wonder as a result, but there's a reason this entire album has a legion of superfans willing to sing its praises to high heaven. the songs are impeccably constructed, with the psychedelic quality of the instrumentation and production serving to elevate the compositions, rather than paper over a lack of them. if you have the stereo mix, this is definitely not a headphone listen. I was incredibly disoriented by the hard-right panning of the lead vocals on the opener, "Care of Cell 44", but once I switched to speakers, I felt like I was better able to appreciate it, and the rest of these songs too. you can tell they were mixing for speakers back in the day. decent 8/10.

I always thought "This Will Be Our Year" was a 90s song, so I was surprised this came out in 1968.

Amazing.

Never really listened to them before, but this was great. "Time of the Season" was a fantastic way to round out the album, too.

Really loved Care of Cell 44. Very Beach Boys/Beatley. Beachwood Park has that creepy psychedelia to it. This album flew by (35 min) but in a great way. Was boppin' to a lot of these songs. Zombies don't get enough cred in the late 60's rock imo besides a few hits, including Time of the Season which also rules.

psychedelic bangers fav tracks: Care of cell 44, maybe after he's gone, hung up on a dream, i want her, she wants me least fav: A rose for emily, Butcher's tale (Western Front 1944)

sue me i like the brits!!!!!

Great vibes, some cool harmonies. Nice to hear 60’s style rock

Very 60s maybe a basic take, but damn they sound like the beatles sorta mixed with the stones Time of the season being the most played song is no surprise at all. Iconic song, with the makings of a great song solid catchy bassline, matches the drums perfectly 8/10

Love the layered production, the way the organ and keys would create this wall of noise underneath the vocals gave me chills every time. Thought it was a little samey at first, but the B-side knocked it out of the park. Definitely going to return to this one a lot, such a unique sound in a ubiquitous style.

Great pop songwriting performed excellently with the production/instrumentation/sound pallet of psychedelia. Some really familiar bangers on this one, but it's all pretty solid. I will definitely be listening again.

Loved it. Weird that they were already broken up when it was released. I love the oddly happy sound of Cell 44 as opposed to the subject matter. Weirdly, Time of the Season always had an ominous vibe to me. I read that this album is a favorite of Paul Weller, I can understand why.

Nice sound

this was a fun surprise - even moreso when i realized that the zombies weren't a band of women with deep voices, lol. enjoyable weird psychedelic vibes!

when i saw this album today during lunch break, i figured out that i'd like to get high during english language class while the teacher talks about stuffs and the questions in class slowly drifts out of sight and becoming surreal. care of cell 44 has this classic 67' beatles feel, the guitars and pianos and harmonies, so penny lane. i like it, as i'm a ex-beatles fan. but some tracks are sloppy. 4/5

I’m slightly triggered by this album because of the song Rose For Emily. It was in the closing credits of one of the seasons of Serial, and while it’s not a bad song, I just always felt like it was so out of place that it bothered me to the point that just hearing the song bothers me (it’s a “me” problem, I know). Questionable podcast credit music aside, not a bad album. There were a few recognizable tracks that I didn’t know were by The Zombies (This Will Be Our Year, Time of the Season), so it was cool to place those. Overall, enjoyable listen. — 4/5 Highlights: Changes This Will Be Our Year Time of the Season

Pretty good, had that one classic song that I didn't realize was by them

In the first 50 albums of this project, I’ve been served up many variants on the 60s-70s psychedelic theme and have come to realize I really don’t care for it at much. When I saw this album cover, I expected another slog through boring, distorted guitar riffs and childish lyrics. I was pleasantly surprised to find this album distinguishes itself in its field with a pretty unique and interesting sound. The bass throughout the album is especially cool, as well as the keyboard and organ. “Beechwood Park” and “This Will Be Our Year” are highlights, but it’s really a pretty good album start to finish. I knew the Zombies were responsible for some super-popular song of the era but I couldn’t remember which, so ending the album on the spooky season classic “Time of the Season” was a nice treat. The mastering on this album is noticeably bad, but I don’t feel it’s fair to demerit the artists for that. Solid 7.5/10, torn between three or four ⭐️ but I think I’d listen to this again in certain contexts and I’m feeling generous so I will round up. Not sure what the misspelling of odyssey is about but it’s a good enough record to look past that.

Virkelig lækker lyd, overrasket over hvor mange af sangene jeg allerede kendte uden lige at vide at det var The Zombies. Meget glad for at have hørt den, stor 4'er!

Pretty good. Like the mama's and the papa's but more interesting.

“Time of the Season” is obviously the stand out here, and a quintessential signature song of the Hippie generation soundtrack. The rest was a pleasant listen and a strong album deserving an high rating. Interesting history on the recording and connection to Argent. 4.5/5 3.25/5

I find it interesting that these guys are mostly ever referenced for the song “Time of Season”, when this album shows a much more deeply talented group. This was a great listen and came close to being a 5 for me. Strange how they get forgotten in the top band discussions of the late 60s when clearly they deserve residence alongside some of the bigger recordings of that time (Beatles, Beach Boys). Even more strange is after their short-lived career, there were copycat bands popping up claiming to be them. One of which included Dusty Hill and Frank Beard of the soon-to-be ZZ Top.

This gets very very close to 5* for me but not quite there. An enjoyable listen. Def seems like a band that got overwhelmed by the popularity of bands like The Beatles, Beach Boys, etc. Shame. 4.25/5

Huge surprise of an album. Very good and will definitely revisit. 4.

This is so psychedelic and I love it, man! Liked Songs Added: Care Of Cell 44 This Will Be Our Year Time Of The Season

Highlights: This Will Be Our Year, Care of Cell 44, Time of the Season In a nutshell: the band that should've been bigger. Odessey and Oracle is one of those great albums that was lost in the wash. Divine harmonies, cool organ. Lovely balance of psychedelic, baroque, pop and rock. Overall: 7/10

Somehow never heard of this album, although it's in the top 100 of another list I've referenced for years. Very decent first half, at times veers into the generic psychedelia I'm not into but plenty of highlights. Once again, this would be an incredible ten track album (although it's already a good length).

Early Beatles-esk guitar pop, name doesnt fit the band but I like it all.

I dig it. Time of the Season is a classic, & the rest of the tracks are chill & fit in nicely with it.

Zombies >>> White Zombie >>>>>> zombie

Überraschend gut, und natürlich Time of the season

like it a lot - def know some of these songs. not the kind of music i expected from a band titled The Zombies

Late 60s British psychedelic rock that I like. Very cheerful and light. Fun harmonies. Came 2 years before the Beatles and sound as good. Sounds a bit like Beach Boys.

Sounds wildly influential. Could have been released in the 90s. Every song is so good.

"Friends of Mine" -> "Time of the Season" is an instant favorite example of whiplash album sequencing great collection of songs to listen to while getting up to some twee Wes Anderson shit

I love the cover art, I love "This will be our year", and "friends of mine" is so sweet. They have a straightforward sort of teen bop sound, like the early beatles, but their songs are thoughtful and compassionate. Except for A Rose for Emily. The lady has a house and a thriving garden, she's doing fine, leave her alone.

knew it and loved it already. fantastic this time as well. 8/10

This album sounds great. Catchy poppy songs 'with added value', good vocal harmonies, some nice rhythms too. Has a Beach Boys and Beatles ring to it. Sounds very American for some reason but they're British. A 3 or a 4, but because they started in 1961 I think the band must have been innovative, and the songs, although clearly testament to the 60s, still sound fresh.

Yet another Beatles album. Pretty much what I expected after hearing the first song. Fun listen, great length.

bunch of British guys in suits standing on a sidewalk... wonder where ive seen that before. they may be Beatles copycats but im here for it bc this was pretty good.

All these 60s pop albums sound the same. Still good though

great album

I really liked this. I've only recently realized how many great tunes from the 60's that I like are from the Zombies. I don't often want to listen to too much from this era, but this is a record I can definitely see putting on again soon.

Fantastic, fantastic 60s album - great instrumentals and vocals.

Very much of it's time, very Kinksesque but none the worse for that.

There is a certain radio station that makes me feel like I would be cooler if I loved the zombies more. I enjoyed this album, but didn’t love it. This will be our year was my favorite on this album.

actually had a good time

++: This Will Be Our Year +: Care of Cell 44, A Rose for Emily, Maybe After He's Gone, Beechwood Park, Brief Candles, Hung Op on a Dream, Changes, I Want Her, She Wants Me, Butcher‘s Tale (Western Front 1914), Friends of Mine, Time of the Season 7,7/10

I liked it and I'm glad I listened to it.

Some crazy stories about the Zombies. This, to me is very 68 sounding, like what everyone was playing in garage bands, all trying to be so cool. But as I listened, I couldn't believe how different it all sounded. Each song was like a different band. And I wondered - how the hell did they come up with 'Time of the season' out of all those different sounds! It was completely different from the rest of the album. And I am so completely happy that someone believed in them enough to make it happen. Because it's such a great song. 4 out of 5 because there were a couple of stinkers in there and Time of the season is a 5 all by itself!

A pleasant happy sounding album.

Although I knew the name of The Zombies, Time of The Season is a timeless gem, I don’t remember hearing any of their other tunes. Yes, it’s very 1960s flower power but so worth listening to. Somewhere between a 3 and 4 but because it’s so tight and well-crafted I’ll be generous. Nx

This is a dense and complex album, and I really enjoyed it. It would (will) take multiple listens to dig into all the nuances of the compositions and production, but I was struck by how fully realized the album is. More than once I thought that the scope and breadth rivaled some of the more interesting arrangements and performances by the Beatles, though these songs were far less catchy and immediate. "Time of the Season" seemed like an afterthought, and was a strange closer. Good stuff. I never would have stumbled upon this on my own.

Sucker for this flavor of 60s soft psychedelia sound

I liked this a whole lot, really pretty songs.

Nice pop/psycadelia, easy to listen to but nothing jumped out

That's some pure hippie shit right there.

I only really knew the Zombies for She’s not There, which isn’t on this album But the rest of this is some pretty good 60’s psychedelia that - crucially - remembers some tunes

Pretty fun, would listen again. Time of the Season is just amazing and rest of album seems up to the task of not making us an outlier.

Love the zombies. Music still sounds good.

first time listening, love it!!

Time of the Season is a classic and brilliant song. The album is a wonderful sample of the music of the time. Well recorded, well produced.

This was the first album generated for me! Gave it a five back…two and a half years ago? Have heard a ton more since then, and adjusted expectations to match, so it’s a four now. Still really good!

Classic 60s brit pop/psychedelia. Time of the Season is awesome

Fun, a vibe, easy to work to

Damn this is cool!

A special album as “This Will Be Our Year,” discovered at the closing of Schitt’s Creek, is my wife and my song. The rest is glorious and lovely.

Vocal harmonies give it a haunting vibe. Classy piano melodies. Psychedelic tone throughout. Must be the keyboards. I’m hearing Beatles and Beach Boys. Won’t leave my head. Well done.

love when you're really rocking with an album on this list and then you get to that popular song you didn't realize was on it

Todo muy The Beach Boys y The Beatles.

Yo particularmente no lo he escuchado nunca o casi nunca.

Fun late 60’s rock. Did not realize who they were until the last song

A few really great songs on here, and the rest are all at least passable. never heard of it before glad i listened!

Very very solid psychedelic baroque pop. Up there with Sgt Peppers for sure. Some corny sing-songy stuff, and they are hugely indebted to the Beach Boys, but besides that splendid indeed 👍

good album of pyshc pop

I thought this was a real treat. A cracking selection of psychedelic pop evoking Teenage Fannies etc. but obviously with an earlier sound - I don't enjoy a lot of 60's stuff but when you come across something like this you can see with hindsight it was important. I also like it when an album you haven't noticed before holds one of those songs that you know so well without really noticing it (Time of the Season). I'm a fan.

fun!!!

Initial impression - OK GO has definitely been inspired by this, because the singing style is very similar and indeed they have covered one of the songs from this album.

Never heard this before. Initially I didn't think I'd like it, but I liked it a lot. I actually listened to it twice "just to be sure". It's funny that "Time of the Season" is thrown on at the end. Apparently not all the band liked it, and it wasn't released as one of the first two singles. The band had broken up by the time it became a hit. The piano parts are better than in many similar 60's bands. The lyrics are often pretty depressing. There is more variety here than at first glance. Glad it's on the list as I wouldn't have listened to it otherwise. "She watches her flowers grow While lovers come and go To give each other roses from her tree But not a rose for Emily"

Short and sweet, would be keen to listen to again!

is good

classic 60's album

Pretty fucking great if ur on a mood

I've never really listened to The Zombies, so I didn't realise they wrote so many hits. It's good. Maybe I'll get tired of the 60s rock soon, but this isn't one to get tired of

About the only psychedelic music I actually enjoy. It's a strange album.

Nice album, I can hear The Beatles influence but they have their own style shining through, as well.

I don't think I've heard another album that so perfectly—and beautifully, honestly—captures the exact sound of late 60's psychedelic baroque pop. I'm in awe, quite frankly. So... Damn, I ain't got no choice but to give this thing a 4, at least.

Time of the Season.

That was just fine, but not memorable

Trippy, bright, underrated

s album isch sehr guet und denn chunt time of the season und de scheiss isch soooo geil mitem schnuufer als snare oooohfuck da lupfts sowas vo ufe vieri holy shit.

noaml kenni vo ihne nur time of the season HALLOU STEREO care of cell 44 sehr nice, au wemmer am backgroundgsang d 60er jahr ahmerkt, findis relativ "modern"? a rose for emily cute aber au nöd meh MONOVERSION oke die lieder sind jz wieder vill krasser 60er als care of cell 44 beechwoodpark het für mich au wieder die wärmi wo so musig mit ihrem hammond-örgeli hend brief candles hani auscho ghört? ui changes findi gad chli heavy jap schrecklich this will be our year au sehr cool und mega laid back butcher's tale hani auscho iwo ghört s hetmer musikalisch nöd megaaa gfalle aber s isch iwie sehr es creepy und rohs lied? sehrsehr geil time of the season isch halt echt es insanes lied de beat mitem schnuufe, HAMMOND und eifach wieder das laid back VIEEEEEERR

An excellent representation of this type of 60's sound. Solid from front to back, although not quite on my personal favorites list.

sounded a lot like the beach boys, not my usual style but there were certain elements i could see heavily inspired modern music that i listen to. really enjoyed it!

A bit of an odd name given the sound of their music, but I had heard one of their songs before which surprised me. Good tight harmonies? Decent sings. Very listenable and downloaded some so it’s a four for me.

Nice mellow psychedelic pop album. Solid all the way, and has "time of the season" which is a bop.

I was immediately and delightfully thrown into a soundtrack suitable for a montage in a rom com, and with each new song entered a new phase of an imaginary relationship. I give it 4 stars for the beautiful musicality of it all, and the fact that I got to pretend that I was Tom Hanks for a while, rolling on the grass in some park with a beautiful but socially awkward female lead.

Wow huge surprise, awesome sound and then ends with a mega banger. I guess the tracklist is kind of weird but honestly a great listen. cool album!

This album reminded me quite a lot of The Pretty Things, who I definitely feel I underrated in my reviews. In a similar manner, on first listen I thought, “this is fun, I like this.” But then it finds a spot in my mind and keeps tempting me back. For The Pretty Things, this culminated in S.F. Sorrow becoming one of my all time favourites. I’ve yet to see if The Zombies has this same pull for me, but the albums definitely do have the same trippy rock band vibe.

Time of the Season and This Will Be our Year are beloved songs.

song reco: care of cell 44 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ nice and fresh vibes.

Clearly the Zombies' crack at a Sgt. Pepper/Pet Sounds, and really not a bad one at that. Time of the Season aside, particularly like Changes, Butcher's Tale & Friends of Mine.

This was not on Deezer, but I was pleasantly surprised after finding it on YouTube. Kind of has Beach Boys vibes

This is like a slightly more interesting Beatles album. “Care of Cell 44” sets the tone for a lyrically more challenging album than the usual britpop dreck. I don’t think it fully realizes that but I really liked that song and there was more than one where the content wasn’t just about being hippie style fucked up or being happy, Butchers Tale being another standout there. Despite being easy to follow, I think a lot of the vocal (and instrumental) harmonizing is complicated and well thought out, more so than a lot of the stuff in this genre. The first track and “hung up on a dream” are good examples. There’s also a theme of not over utilizing the organ and keys in here though featuring them in a big way. They never overpower anything despite taking center stage in many songs. The more I think about it the more I like this more than the beatles releases we’ve had. I don’t think either are really worth the status they’ve got in popular music but this is a good album that is different enough to make a mark. A nice surprise!

psycheldic mane

I quite liked this. It's not aged particularly well, but I enjoyed it anyway, and would happily listen to this again any time.

Enjoyed this album. I didn't know most of the songs but was pleasantly surprised.

This a pretty classic Zombies album. Lots to love, not much to hate. It's classic rock plain and simple

this was a fun album, i enjoyed all the tracks, if listen again, i love the first track

A good listen all the way through as the songs are short and all fairly distinct with some real classics like time of the season. 4/5 because it's good but not as great as some other albums from the same time like the kinks or Beatles

7/10 Fav track: Hung Up On A Dream

Don’t tell my boy but I fuck with the zombies so much more than the beach boys. There’s something so nostalgic and warm about any record Colin Blunstone jumps on. Psych chamber pop that also sounds so folky. Idk why I get Nick Drake vibes so much from this record. Also, this album was recorded at Abbey Road two years before the big Brits recorded that one album. This rocks.

Butcher's Tale ++ Time of the Season ++

A teir. Most of the songs were awesome, and I will probably listen to it again. Production is great, and the first and last songs are really nice bookends to the whole album. Butchers tale was a cool change of pace. The whole album was super fun to listen to.

It’s giving 60s. Nice

Zombie are an under-rated band. They made really great music - sort of psychedelic, but heavily Beatles influenced.

It's decent, I'd put it in big playlists but I probably won't listen to it much otherwise.

Sumamente recomendable.

I didn't realize how many Zombies songs I knew. Some real classics. A very enjoyable weekend listen.

I liked this a lot. It felt like The Beatles a bit to me. Time of the Season is just incredible. I kinda of wish the rest of the album felt a bit more like that one. But still very much feel like this is worth a listen. Looking forward to a relisten.

really enjoyed this one

Very fun psychedelic baroque pop

Whoa, hell yeah! I didn't recognize the name, but when I saw the tracklist, "Time of the Season" was all the reminder I needed. This is honestly a great album, very bright and clear instrumentals, with just a dash of that psychedelic edge. Not every track works, and there were a few that I'd almost skip, but enough heat on here for me to call this a great album. The first three songs especially, that run really had me going. Favorite tracks: Time of the Season, Care of Cell 44, A Rose for Emily, Maybe After He's Gone, Changes, This Will Be Our Year. Album art: Classic psychedelic '60s art style, I like the figures mixed in here, an ape man in a hospital gown, what seems like Goku with his ass out on the right. Just an excellent collage style, this one perfectly typefies the style of the time. 4/5

nice classic album

It’s like The Kinks have mated with King Crimson

I forgot to look at the wikipedia article or even the track listing for this one and just hit play. The album sure starts out nice and quirky and continues with lots of little highlights along the way and then Time of the Season kicks in and it almost sounds like a different band. On the second playthrough, I started to get a better appreciation for this band and am keen to listen again. Fave: Time of the Season is so dreamy.

A once-a-year sort of album. Favourite track this time: Beechwood Park

Although I can't give this a 5, this beyond exceeded my expectations. I didn't dislike any song (Hung up on a Dream almost pushed me towards giving that extra star) and the album was surprisingly cohesive. Also, Time of the Season is in the top 10 for best karaoke songs--trust me, you'll bring the house down.
