Forgot notes loved the album 4/5

Great album, really like the title track

Amazing album during a train ride in the dark

handgemachter, singersongwriter ähnlich, ruhig, calm, bariton

Into the Mystic is one of my favorite songs. Quintessential Van Morrison here. Catchy and pretty pop hooks with an old soul of Rock N Roll leaking through.

Wonderful album. Glad to have finally listened to it.

It doesn't hold up perfectly to today's musical standards, but it is a classic and is absolutely worth a listen and should be kept in your back pocket in case you need some old timey music to listen too.

Soothing, with an occasional catchy song. Fav'd 2 songs from the album

Enjoyable background music

Very fun with great jazz influences. Really enjoyed this one! The remastering process did this a ton of favors and the album sounds very well polished. Added two, skipped zero.

Great voice, good songs all around.

goodalbumnotmuchtosaygenericcrap

Easy on the ears. Not really songs I would add to my playlist with favourites, but I can see myself putting this album on in the future

Incredibly solid album. It probably really deserves a perfect score, but for me it lacks a bit of variation to really blow me away as an album. With that said, iconic stuff!

Enjoyed the lightness

A bit directionless, but a compelling vehicle for an obvious talent.

Excellent. Already was in my library

Nice vibe. Had this running in the background while doing chores, and it made me forget how boring the chores were. Exceeded expectations!

By fusing folky jazz and country rock, Van Morrison pioneered a unique and defining sound, completely his own. This album takes the listener to a different time, and perhaps a different life altogether, when things were simpler and it was easier to be happy. The album is elevated with the full instrumentation including the backup vocals, harmonica, saxophones, flute, piano, which all contribute to the pleasant and gratifying vibe.

Elska svona tónlist. Svo þægilegt að hafa í bakgrunni eða bara að njóta hennar. Æðislegt alveg hreint.

Not my cup of tea. Not bad.

Awesome, didnt find the original tho. Nice piano at the end

Moondance is beautiful

What is this, a greatest hits album?

Already familiar, but a very long time since I listened to the whole album.

Good tingles. Raw life tunes. 8/10

I've been listening to a few songs off of this album for years now, but I never actually gave the whole thing a chance. Very chill album, the horns on this are absolutely amazing and I personally love Van Morrison's voice. 9/10 for sure

1st half great falls away after into the mystic

Classic for a reason

As soon as I heard the first few songs, I felt like I was brought to a tiny smoke-filled jazz lounge. I picture someone playing piano and singing, accompanied by a stand up bass, guitar and back up singers. "They don't write music like this anymore" came to my mind. A fusion of Rock & Roll, Jazz, Blues, Folk, and Soul. Every song has its own identity but aren't too far a departure from each other. I know Van Morrison's radio hits. I didn't know a single song on this album but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I could see this being on a playlist for background music in a social setting. I truly think the best way to enjoy this type of music is in a live setting. Great album.

What an album. Great mix of folk, blues, jazz. Piano is amazing and Van Morisson voice is a delight to listen to

Beautifully produced. Sounds like butter. Love how thick the bass sounds. Vans voice is beautiful on this.

Cool album reminds me of summer

Truth be told, I had forgotten how many solid songs are on this album; when an album has a seminal song such as "Moonlight," there's a tendency to lose focus on the rest of the album (or I certainly fall into this trap). "Into the Mystic" remains one of my favorite songs of all time--why didn't I ever have the opportunity to say (in all seriousness) to someone, "I want to rock your gypsy soul"? Missed opportunities, though I'm not sure I've ever possessed the street cred to utter such an iconic line!

It was really good I think, kind of a new type of music, I'd go back to it for sure.

A mostly laidback album. Every song was good, with some songs amazing for just banging your head out, and some heartrending tunes. Van Morrison's singing is incredible as well. Overall a very good album to start off the 1001 albums I will be listening to.

Morrison’s follow up to his magnum opus was a unique record as well, even if it didn’t reach the songwriting heights of its predecessor

Van Morrison's voice is distinguished and talented. A nice upbeat folky/bluesy album that is probably best listened to while not at work. Moondance is a great jazzy number. The songs start to sound similar throughout, until the intro to Everyone to catch your attention. Solid 4!

I liked this one way more than the first Van Morrison album we listened to. Not sure if I was just in a better mood or it was just actually better. His unique voice went very well with the jazzy instrumentals the whole album. A few hits mixed in with some new songs I haven't heard before that I found myself really liking.

First four songs are some classics by Van. Already enjoying this a lot more than the last one we listened to by him. Just super easy songs to get into. Then we hit Into The Mystic. This was my parents first song so it tends to hit different even though their relationship went Into the Shitter. Lovely piece of music. Starts to drag a little bit towards the end but the first half carries it so damn much I'm giving Van a 4 that crazy son of a bitch.

Pretty jazzy and fun. A couple songs were about 90 seconds too long.

Pleasant and smooth a great casual afternoon or boardgame album

Good. Lots of classics. Slightly repetitive back to back to back. Almost plays like a greatest hits though.

Easy listening bangers

Soft and great to listen.

The voice is so smooth, it’s like being gentle rocked in a cradle of clouds.

Only one or two songs I didn’t really like on this album, and I think that may be situational. Into the Mystic and Brand New Day were definitely my favorites. Not something I’ll find myself listening to often but not bad by any means.

80sish rock/singer-songwriter/Country

Chill AF.

Easy listening. Surprised by the variety of styles.

And It stoned me: 80 Moondance: 93 Crazy love: 77 Caravan: 85 Into the mystic: 90 Come running: 82 these dreams of you: 78 brand new day: 79 everyone: 75 glad tidings: 90

Very good album, but it is a LOT of Van Morrison.

Classy and great

I enjoyed this one! I love his voice and the energy. He sounded like he was crying on track 3, and I should look up what that's about

Very good album.

True story. When I was in college, I was friendly with a group of women who were roommates at a nearby all women's school. They had a running bet between them to see who would be the first to have sex to "Moondance" and had a cassette of the album in a little holder near the door in their room. Apparently there were several false starts LOL i.e. one of them would be heading out on a date, take the cassette, and come back and put the cassette in the holder... and not collect on the bet. Eventually one of them did manage to claim it, but it was harder than they thought! I do think that Van Morrison has a great voice, very emotive, nice range. The horns on this record are super cool, interesting arrangements and solos. Songwriting solid to excellent. Honestly writing that I just talked myself into giving this record four stars. It would be a seven on a ten point scale.

Wat ontzettend mooi dit!

Van the man. Vanwege 'glad tidings' vier sterren.

Not a single skip on here to my ears. I love Van's voice and how jazzy the songwriting is on this one, the title track is pretty much a straight up jazz song. Gets a little weaker towards the end, but not enough to stop my enjoyment of the album.

Muito bom.

I’ve never been crazy about Van Morrison but I liked this album more than I expected to.

to me, this is THE van morrison album. i've listened to astral weeks before and i have never truly gotten it. but this album is a lot more enjoyable for me. the first side absolutely goes, the second side leaves a little bit to be desired. definitely a front loaded album. but still very enjoyable. the jazz influenced arrangements mixed with the laid back, acoustic feel of the album makes for a pleasant listen.

Really enjoyed this album, I’ve been sleeping on van Morrison but he’s got some really cool and great sounding records

I enjoyed this so much more than I thought I would.

Filled with some great songs. Love the jazz influence on the album and "Come Running" and "These Dreams of You" are favorites. "Caravan" is great as well, but I prefer the Last Waltz version more. Overall solid album, my only issue is that its a style of music I have to really be in the mood for to want to listen to it. 4/5 Will definitely listen again

I hate how much I like this. I have a soft spot for Woodstock-era country/folk/Americana. Morrison was obviously taking a lot of influence from Bob Dylan at this time (everybody kinda was, to be fair). Some jazz, some folk, some soul. I remember not liking his voice at all on Astral Weeks, but it’s definitely not as bad on here. Sucks that he’s such a wanker now…

Nostalgic and yet not super familiar. I only knew some of the songs. Enjoyed it despite the gypsy obsession

Surprisingly calm songs

Great Beginning of this journey. Getting a bit weaker at the end.

Good mellow sound.

Chill, smooth, certain. Teetering on the edge of mushiness but I don’t think it gets there: too many good melodies and the jazzy instrumentation feels professional and organic, not saccharine. A high-quality and highly relaxing album. Best song: Moondance

Van Morrison’s best quality is his defining sound. He didn’t fade into a crowd. Most of the songs on this album are also pretty distinguishable, but there are some fumbles as well. Nothing big to complain about. The vibes on this album are immaculate and next to none, the vocals are unique, great writing and lyrics, and original sound all together. 4/5

Niceeee voice

Van Morrison nowadays isn't a great human being. Separating the art from the artist, this album is truly amazing. The vivid imagery and chords make this album come to life for me, picturing the scenes and scenarios. Fantastic singing, lyrics, music.

I enjoyed this a lot!

Good classic album, I surprisingly recognized nearly every song on the album. I preferred the first half of the album over the second but overall it was a very enjoyable album

And It Stoned Me Moondance Crazy Love Caravan Into The Mystic These Dreams of You Glad Tidings.

Only a four because Astral weeks is better. Of all of the big songs from this album, Moondance is actually my least favourite. Caravan, Glad Tidings and Everyone are my favs.

Good album, aged really well but I can see this being forgettable overall on a personal level..

Not as good as the incredible astral weeks but still a good album. After the last few ‘it’s cool to live at home at 35’ albums this is a bit refreshing. It’s still not a must listen (unless you are a van Morrison fan) but at least there’s a standard on it. Morrison is a problematic person and can be inconsistent as a songwriter. But when he hits it it’s brilliant. 3.5 rounded up. 5 from any other artist.

What's not to like? Perfectly suited to chilling . Great rainy day music. Amazing that it stands up so well from the 1960s... And there is nothing quite like can Morrison... I don't think anyone even imitates it... Best when not overplayed. (Like the 90's after the Julie Roberts film - sleeping with the enemy....) That was rough. Yes belongs on the list ... Not my all time favourite musician. But a big soft spot. 4 starts

Van Morrison is one of the great cranky bastards of rock. Throughout his career, he has often struggled to overcome (or even conceal) his contempt for his audiences. At this particular point in time, however, he knew he was on his last chance with his record company. Astral Weeks had been a critical success, but had not found wide commercial appeal, and he had one more shot in the locker to get his career going. And so he made an album that would accessible and enjoyable for wide audiences. The tunes are cracking, his voice is fantastic, the horn-led band is warm and welcoming to listen to. The lyrics are still a bit spiritual, but a bit more accessible. It's a really easy album to listen to. Given that he has spent the next 50 years being a cantankerous arsehole, it's kind of a miracle that he had this in him. He was difficult to start with, and I don't think that success and cocaine did him any favours. I find it easier to listen to this album if I don't think too hard about Van Morrison the person. 4.5 stars, rounded down for bad behaviour.

Primera vez que se de su existencia. Me encanta lo nostalgico que suena, tambien suena a pelicula romantica entre los 80's y 2000's. No tengo nada negativo sobre este album que decir por ahora, es bastante reconfortante escucharlo.

Not as good as Astral Weeks to me, but still an impressive album with great songwriting in a more popular style.

Grew up hearing this in my younger years - It's a very good album, with a lot of memorable songs for me. What the hell happened to him, though... turned into an absolute whack job.

Yeah, great album! Excited to listen through in earnest. Yeah, solid album... Def a 4. Glad Tidings was a bit of a surprise.

Classic rock is classic. If you don’t like this, you don’t like blue-eyed soul and you’re not my friend.

Elska þetta.

Van chillerson

De va swag

His third studio album, released in 1970. Mellow, clean compositions, really well mixed, and produced himself. Varied instrumentation used to create solid rhythms and flow through the blues, soul, jazz, pop, and folk sounds. A mix of his ballad and rambling vocals throughout the album, but the backing vocals bring so much depth.

Recovering from disappointment following the classic second album dip after the first album success, Morrison returns to roots and finds more to work with. Interesting Irish fusions with traditional folk. A lot of metaphorical phrasing in lyrics and diverse use of instruments. First 2 tracks are the highlights for me.

rounded up second half was way better weirdly

I did enjoy this. maybe I like Van Morrison?

7.0/10

We got "Astral Weeks" a while back, and there's a marked difference in tone between that album and this one (Morrison's second and third albums, respectively). "Astral Weeks" certainly has artistic value, but it contains a number of long, meandering tracks that don't lend themselves to casual listening. "Moondance" addresses those issues with shorter, more accessible songs while retaining the evocative lyrics and Morrison's unmistakable voice. Honestly, the more I listen to him, the more I respect him as a lyricist. The dude's a storyteller, and his fantastic voice just adds to the charm. I don't think any single track on this album knocked my socks off, but they're all quite good. Let's call it a 4.5.

I've always enjoyed Van Morrison's voice, and Moondance is one of my favorite songs. I enjoyed this.

Moondance is quality, good stories, easy bluesy folksy stylings, endearing voice, 4.

This is really pleasant, particularly at the beginning. It's levelled up crooning - it's got that style to it, but it's got something else about it that elevates it above your Randy Newmans. Album flows together beautifully, there's a little bit of variety, and the lyrics are interesting enough but without being world-beating. First half of the album is stellar, falls away a bit in the second half, but still just about merits a 4. Will listen again.

Very good. Moondance is fantastic, And It Stoned Me is great. Loved this album.

Top 3 Songs: 1 - Moondance (2) 2 - Brand New Day (8) 3 - Into the Mystic (5)

Un álbum que ya había escuchado y revisité. Un clásico del folk, un género que mucho no me gusta, pero sin dudas este disco es una joya, canciones muy redondas.

Ohh I really liked it, listened to it on my way home from college. Such nice and peaceful atmosphere..

Never listened to a full VM album before, but it was nice.

very pleasant bops, din't care for the singers voice that much

Heyrið, þetta er svona ljómandi ágætt. Þarna eru þekkt lög og góð, og mörg hinna minna spiluðu alveg ljómandi góð líka. Jájá, gæti vel hlustað aftur.

Very solid album with a few fantastic songs, but I like Astral Weeks more personally.

3.5/5 This album brought back memories for me. I can remember us driving down the road and my dad playing this album and drumming his thumbs on the steering wheel. So, I don't know if nostalgia is coloring my experience here, (probably), but I enjoyed it. It's got good music, played well, on nice instruments that are well tuned, good lyrics and the there are levels! There are slow songs that are sad or melancholic, fast paced fun, upbeat songs and songs in between. I have and will listen to this one again.

Although I've always really loved the song "Moondance," I've never really appreciated much other music by Van Morrison, so I never spent much time with it by choice. Taking the time to this whole album a couple of times today helped my appreciation grow.

Huh. I thought I really liked Van Morrison but, aside from the songs I already knew, I found this rather unexciting.

Another old classic - this site gets better and better!

Upbeat and unpretentious, romantic and mellow… “Moondance” is a landmark moment in Van Morrison’s long career. In 1968’s dazzling, experimental “Astral Weeks”, he’d aimed for the sun. One year on, he recorded this third album as a means of coming back down to earth. In his own words, “I make albums primarily to sell them… I had to forget about the artistic thing… one has to live.” Questionable as this approach might be, the result is a refreshingly direct, sturdy album, chock-full of rich and soulful vocals, mellow acoustic folk, and numerous jazzy adornments. There’s no disputing Morrison’s vocal talent, and he’s on fine form here, anchoring the more twinkly and ephemeral tracks and galvanising the upbeat ones. The instrumentation is very easy going, including a horn section full of character, piano and an occasional double-bass. There’s even some unexpected harpsichord and flute to liven up “Everyone”. The title track deserves to be a jazz standard. “And It Stoned Me” and “Into the Mystic” have an instantly beguiling spiritual quality. “Come Running” is lightweight, throwaway fun. And for gentler fare with gospel backing vocals, “Crazy Love” and “Brand New Day” are both beautiful, softly stirring soul numbers. Finally, we culminate in the triumphant closer “Glad Tidings”, which feels like a transparent attempt to recreate “Brown Eyed Girl” for a new album (right down to the same chord progression and a “La La La” refrain in the chorus). It’s a wonderful, if obvious, way to wrap up. “Moondance” is consistently comfortable and endlessly easygoing. It might not be the most exciting album I’ve heard, but I’d be hard pushed to find a more pleasant set of songs.

Still a dick though

First listen. Quite a nice listen. Some chill songs.

One of those great '70's albums that everyone you knew seemed to own back then. Into The Mystic is one of my all time favorite songs.

This album feels like a mixture between Springsteen brass and 60s soul. I'm here for it. Van Morrison has a unique voice that is both powerful and soothing at the same time. I have no idea how he does it but he did it. Loved the brass showcased throughout. Added dimension to the music. Lyrically it's hard not to smile while listening to this album, lots of positive vibes throughout. It feels like a sunny day. The jazzy title track stands out with its excellent instrumentation, including gently tickled piano, bass, and sax. "Crazy Love" showcases a softer side of Morrison's vocals. Someone definitely danced to this song at their wedding. On the other hand we have "Caravan" which highlights his wildly impressive pipes during the bridge. "Brand New Day" is a soulful, gospel-like track with lyrics about finding hope and revitalization in the sunshine and "Glad Tidings" is a cohesive package of harmonious sax, groovy bass, and treble-y guitar plucks. Speaking of sax -- can't talk about sax without mentioning the solo on "These Dreams of You". This Collin Tillton guy absolutely killed it. I felt like I was reliving a happy memory with this one. In some ways I was living VM's happy memories. Hard for me to pick out anything I did not like with this one. It didn't necessarily feel like an all-timer to me or an album that changed the game but it certainly was a great album that everyone should hear before they die. "I've been used, abused and so confused And I didn't have nowhere to run But I stood and looked And my eyes got hooked On that beautiful morning sun" :( --> :)

I thought that the music was great but the lyrics were not my thing. I hate to bed too heavy on the lyrics though as I loved to listen

Hard to believe these songs were all released on just two sides of the same disc. “And It Stoned Me” is one of my most-played Van songs, but it is a sure second to the version of “Caravan” he sings with The Band in The Last Waltz. (Van the Man!) This album is great! But—and this is a big but—a significant part of me is always saddened listening to this follow up to 1968’s Astral Weeks. With Moondance, Mr. Morrison sacrificed the ambling rhythms, forested textures, and dreamy gnosticisms of Weeks for a stripped-down and streamlined pop sound. The results are brilliant. And evidence the versatility of one of the era’s greatest singers, so I can’t complain too much. But I’ve always felt that he might have returned to explore the terrain set out in Astral Weeks if not for the overwhelming success of this record and all that came after it. Oh well. It’s still a damn good record.

Classic summer album. Listening in March makes me even feel like the summer is a little closer, the sun is just a little sunnier. A little repetitive, but honestly… would it be such a classic “put on in the background and enjoy your one sunny day” record if it wasn’t? I have nothing insightful to say! This album just feels good. 4/5 I know I’m 20 years late to this battle, but… Spotify, record labels, stop with this “Deluxe Album” insanity. A poor, hapless listener might happen upon “Moondance Deluxe” by mistake and be treated to 4 hours of scratch takes and demos. Nobody needs to hear take 9 of Glad Tidings.

Some really terrific songs here, just a shame they’re all by Van Morrison. Had trouble deciding what to rate this album. The summery, nostalgic songs sprinkled with fanfares are boppy and make for some very enjoyable listening, and there are some classics in the first half of the album that are likely somewhere in my top ever played tracks on Spotify. The other half of the tunes I find kind of tedious and are overshadowed a bit by how much of a knob Van Morrison is. And I never really want to hear the title track ever again. So I’m landing this somewhere between three-and-a-half and four stars if that’s allowed. Favourite track is Caravan.

Very good :)

It’s a classic. Points for the Irish!

Started out strong, but dips pretty low on a lot of the tracks. This album gets crushed when put up against John Martyn solid air, hall and oates luncheonette, or cat Steven tillerman

After ‘Astral Weeks’ Van Morrison returns with a more straightforward that plays less like an experimental record. This album is very folk centric though of course it still dabbles in jazz phrasing and instrumentation. The musicianship and songwriting are top notch and the album as a whole was incredibly enjoyable. It’s definitely on my list to listen to again soon.

Great record. Particularly love the horn parts, bass playing, and Van Morrison’s iconic voice. Not a huge fan of a lot of the hard panning going on.

One of my Dad's all time favourites

This is another one where I think if I were listening to it fresh it might not impress me, but so many of these songs I know by heart. It can't not be at least four stars

Oh I mistook Astral Weeks with Moondance. I had not heard Astral weeks, this is the record I heard, and it's a great one. Great from end to end, in this one Van Morrison actually sounds good, and each track is lovely and flows from one to the next. The album never tapers and is simple a great record.

4.5. Stunnin gorgeous wow

Some bangers some mid

Love this album, so much soul and captures so much. Nearly a 5 for me

I loved it! A mix of rock and jazz! It was a good album!

Classic made by a man from the same island as me.

I love Van Morrison. It was heard to check my bias at the gate, either way I think this would get a 4 though

great album, very catchy. It has an original sound and style that I've not seen much before.

A perfectly cromulent record. Best track: Into the Mystic

baita som, bem calmo e instrumental rico

damn all his best songs are on this, acc rly good album

A very good album. "Moondance" and "Crazy Love" are some of my all time favorites and the other songs - which I don't know as well - fit right in.

Really good album, but Van Morrison's singing is what prevents me from giving full marks.

Holy shit it’s so many of my Van favorites. I grew up with this album. My parents were always playing it. Makes me wonder what/who that’ll be for my kids. This reminds me I need to get it on vinyl.

Good listening very relaxed with a unique voice.

American music that plays at a bar on the countryside at the closing hour. Or just at a very chill bar. I’m one who don’t really listens to the lyrics during songs. But when I did listen closely to the lyrics, they seemed boring. Læve læve læve, is all he sings about. Oh, he said la la la, my bad. I like the jazzy style over the album. Ok the further into the album I got, the better the music got.

Nice, solid album. Flows nicely from start to finish.

Lovely for listening to on a rainy morning.

Solid album

Reminds me of something I would listen to if I wanted to entertain Elise's parents. Definitely will listen again. Some happy songs, some sad songs. It's a nice mix. Definitely dad rock though, but that's not a bad thing. The vibe reminds me of that song 'The Weight' by The Band.

Nice, very groovy

Chill yet cheerful. Nice as background music but also good to throw on your headphones and float away. I feel like the cover art sells the songs, especially the eponymous Moondance, a bit short. Might have had a bit more fantasy, you know?

Very good, easy listening album. “Into the mystic” is the highlight song for me. Not legendary but a very solid album.

Muito bom, só chegou para mim na hora errada. Mas voltaria a ouvir com certeza.

the gentleman on the cover of this album (Van Morrison, presumably) looks like Denholm Reynholm and I cannot unsee it the music is fine

This record is not Astral Weeks for sure, but it is quite close to that masterpiece.

very good

This sounds really good but I don’t really kmow if i’d ever cone back to it and i wish he weren’t such a pizza. And it Stoned Me: has some powerful moments and is a good opener Moondance: a classic i was never that crazy about. Nothing’s changed. Crazy Love: i AM crazy about this one tho Caravan: This must’ve been cool live. Into the Mystic: YEP now that’s what i’m talking about. This is the big one. Come Running: Slaps. These Dreams of You: decent bluesy number that doesn’t get interesting til the end Brand New Day: Pretty nice ballad tbh Everyone: Harpsichord?! Immediately slaps. It’s giving elf Glad Tidings: Here’s our closer! A nice groove and a fine ending to this record. Highly prefer second half of record I think but overall a NICE record!!

ive listen to it a while back, remmember realling liking Moondance, and the first 5 songs wich are all great, but the rest of the album ? yeah not much remembering, kindda forgetful

Van has some highly infectious songs on this collection and it would be hard to be inoculated against falling for timeless classics like "Into the Mystic" "Crazy Love" or "Moondance" - that would just be a conspiracy. Why, you'd have to own the media to refute such pseudoscience. Hey, I'm just asking the questions. It's too bad that at particular period of time (1970) he couldn't have been locked down and quarantined yet alas, he had the freedom to go on shedding his fake news all over humanity lo these many decades since. 7/10 4 stars for the music only. Not for the shithead who won't be missed when he inevitably keels over bloated and dead from his own freedom.

Such a powerful and passionate vocal delivery. Very engaging for the listener. A great album listen.

Hard to define what made this album stand out, was just a overall easy listening, good mooded album

I liked the album overall (1). I also saved it to my Spotify library (1). 80% of the tracks were saved to my library from the album (3). I am very familiar with this album and consider it a personal classic (1). The first half of this album was so good I am giving it an extra point (1). 7 points total.

Good, not great album.

Go white boy go

This is Van at his more romantic and approachable. It usits him better

Really enjoyed this one

Really enjoyed

"Moondance", "Crazy Love", "Into the Mystic", and "Glad Tidings" are the most known songs on the album. I thought the album started strong, tapered a bit, and finished well. Great vocals and didn't realize how many great, known songs Van Morrison actually had, especially on a single album. 8/10.

Did not like it at first, but after letting it play I really liked it midway through

Great stuff, upbeat and slightly jazzy. Could maybe be considered a bit background noise but I can see myself listening to it again so it's getting a 4

Es como country jazzeado a veces, queda genial aaaaa no me gustan todas las canciones pero funciona dms bien junto xd

I like it.

Van Morrison was once an amazing songwriter, penning iconic and timeless songs that may not seem to be my flavor at first but just work. He was once iconic and timeless. Now he's just an old curmudgeonly buffoon and anti-Semite who doesn't believe in science.

Much like Astral Weeks, this album took me multiple listens to come to a conclusion. Just like Astral Weeks, I’m a new fan of this album. Van Morrisons voice is sublime and I dig the vibe of his sound. I like the jazzy, swinging bass lines and the flute. All of it. I will be revisiting both albums in the future and I’m glad we still have one more Van Morrison album to come on our 1001 journey.

Liked it despite myself. First time better than the second. Easy listen , similar vibe to Carol King which I have been listening to on the bus too. 1970 too so it makes sense. Bluesy jazz... there's one song towards the end that I do like. 27/09/22

Better than I thought it would be.

Probably the best thing to come from Van Morrison when he was still relevant.

Solid album with some folk, rock and blues elements

Amazing, never heard the album before but wow.

Never heard this before, had no idea what to expect. Enjoyed it.

A deep relaxing listen, found it to be perfect album to drive to would happily revisit on a road trip

I know he’s a COVID-denying piece of shit, but Van really knows his way around a tune. This has got to be his greatest collection of music. B+

Good liked the acoustics

Mélodieux et agréable à écouter

First, if I saw this cover on Instagram today, I would never listen. Second, this album sounds like September. Van Morrison is a genius. Wish he got more love.

How on earth was this the successor to Astral Weeks? Quality is obviously still here, but the structures and lyrics are almost complete opposites of his previous output. There is still plenty of room for innovation, and the title track is just immensely impressive.

An almost surreal successor to Astral Weeks. What a musical journey Van Morrison undertook in those years. An incredibly impressive track list with a few minor misses.

Very easy going pleasant Van Morrison soul. Good, warm stuff.

Moondance - this is a solid four stars for me. The first side of this one are all pretty great and I've heard 'em a million times. The flipside is decent but fades into the background a bit. Good performances across the board, I think, but not as engaging. Kid A - This is a big disappointment for me following OK Computer, which I liked every corner of. There's great stuff in it, but it's not something that holds my attention all the way through. It sounds so canned that I just want there to be a little bit of fresh air in it. Anyway - Moondance gets 4, but Kid A gets 3.

The production of this album is lovely, feeling like a warm hug. And it's certainly got some memorable tracks - the incredible blue-eyed soul of 'Crazy Love', the choogling 'Glad Tidings' and of course the jazzy, yearning title track (one of the first pieces I ever learned to play on piano). It's hardly an original observation to make, but Morrison has a helluva voice. All the material fits around it very snugly. At times, perhaps, it's too 'just so' and oozes into the background, but overall Moondance is a very pleasant, folksy, soulful listening experience.

I always mix Van Morrison and Joe Cocker up in my head, even though I don't think they really sound anything alike. Maybe it's just the soulful white guy thing. At any rate, agree with Alex about the production. This thing just sounds good, so even after the two singles I knew passed and it faded from the forefront of my attention, I still enjoyed just having it on and up in my earholes. I wonder if it still gets played at spring gatherings on the lawns of art schools? Probably.

Alegre

Twee gin tonic mare en deze voelt geweldig hehehe - Brand new day is echt gewoon top hoor ik pak hem mee!

como para estarlo escuchando de fondo, suena a rock clásico por excelencia, son sonidos reconocibles y agradables, me gustó

It was good

Sweet soulful singing, with gorgeous instrumentation (THOSE SAXES) proves Van Morrison knows how to write not just a beautiful song, but a super catchy one too. Favorite Tracks: Caravan, Moondance, and especially Into The Mystic

This absolute piece of shit is a very talented musician!

This is peak Van Morrison for me. Big points for It Stoned Me and Into the Mystic alone. The rest is great too.

+And It Stoned Me, Moondance, Everyone I like the part in the first track where he goes "Take a load off, Fanny, Take a load for free"...oh wait, that's The Weight by The Band; And It Stoned me sounds a lot like that song, but that's not a bad thing! Van Morrison doesn't fix what isn't broken here, just soulful, swanky, and smooth. I dig it.

Great, even excelent at some points

Very nice. Great sound.

I really love this album and a lot of early Van Morrison. Such a nice sound that you can just relax into, a right banger in my opinion.

my goodness, moondance is so, so pleasant to listen to! i didn't know van morrison made such soft music. the whole album flows seamlessly and smoothly together. "crazy love" is beautiful and has such lovely lyrics. the sax, the piano! the optimism in "brand new day"! this was such a well rounded album. i am looking forward to listening to it more.

Aside from some general knowledge of a couple of his biggest hits, I am not really educated on Van Morrison. I wasn't even aware that Moondance was originally his song. So imagine my surprise when I hear this album and it's basically some kind of weird folk-blues-jazz hybrid. On the other hand, I WAS familiar with his original Crazy Love, which in my opinion is one of the sweetest folky love songs to ever be recorded. It is quiet and intimate and highlights the most subtle vocalizations in Morrison's voice. I really enjoyed this album and found myself going back to it for more listening.

Listened to this on a previous list and didn’t really stick with me. It’s time I really enjoyed it.

I think this is the first time I've listened to Van Morrison. It's very good singer-songwriter album with a lot of versatility and a strong, full-bodied sound. Still nothing to get overly excited about though.

Very enjoyable and easy to listen to. Moondance was very recognisable…didn’t realise it was VM.

Went back for a second listen because the first time through was so nice.

Very cool, mellow, amazing story telling. Easy to relax and listen to and makes me think of enjoying a nice summer day.

I've had Morrisey and Jim Morrison, finally a Van Morrison record. This is so good. 4

Really great folk stuff here from Mr. Morrison. I think the thing that sets apart a lot of big folk names from one another is their unique vocal timbre and exquisite songwriting. Worth a listen for sure.

Més melòdic i musical que 'Astral Weeks', menys donat a la improvisació i mostra perfecta del que hauria de ser la resta de la seva discografia en el futur. Folk rock pastoral i molt personal, amb una de les veus més característiques del rock

A really pleasant listening experience that unleashes its penchant for standout moments in every song, therefore making them memorable. A necessary step forward from the impossible to follow Astral Weeks and is thus an essential part in the story of Van the Man. Favorites: And It Stoned Me, Crazy Love, Caravan, Into the Mystic, These Dreams of You, Brand New Day.

Yacht rock to the fullest

Listened. It's more pop than Astral Weeks but still really good. Would like to listen again for the lyrics

This was a great album! Very chill but insanely catchy at the same time. The best way to describe it is that it feels like a sunny/relaxing day with bright and cheery vibes present throughout. I was only somewhat familiar with Van Morrison (mainly through his biggest song, 'Brown Eyed Girl'), and the title track was the only song I ended up recognizing during this listen; however, this album made me appreciate his voice and songwriting capabilities way more as these songs are excellently crafted/performed. 'And It Stoned Me', 'Caravan', and 'Everyone' were the standouts on my first listen, but every track here is smooth and solid. While it is not the most diverse album in terms of instruments or sounds, I did appreciate the moments where VM brought in harpsicord, flute, and saxophone to add a bit of variety. It is not groundbreaking necessarily, but it feels like the type of album that is hard not to like. I would definitely give it another listen in the future. 4/5.

Some really great singer/songwriter stuff. There's a reason he's a legend.

very solid, liked it quite a bit.

Pretty solid album I've heard before

Solid one

I liked the improvisational feel of all the songs on this album. It is what he was going for, that jazzy type of mood. "Everyone" could have sounded annoying and repetitive, and yet it holds up because of the delivery. It's one of my favorite tunes on the album. I think we've all heard the title track "Moondance" at least once or twice in our lives (I've had to play it a few times, not an easy tune.). But the other stuff on the album is just as freeform and improvisational, I quite enjoyed it. I wonder if that feel is brought to the songs live, and how many of the songs were performed live. So yeah, really enjoyable high marks for me. I'm glad the album is more than just the title track. A lot of times albums can't get past that big hit, but this one was able to do so.

I was pleasantly surprised, because of this album, I so far only knew the title song, which I don't particularly like. But the other songs are quite good in a Summer Vibes kind of way. Very solid 4/5.

Nautin. Hyvää blues?-tunnelmaa jostain jenkkien erämaasta.

Not the absolute best Van effort, but high quality nonetheless from the old curmudgeon

Not much to say about this one. After *Astral Weeks* proved itself too complex for the charts and general audience of his time, Van Morrison chose a far more direct approach, adding a *huge* chunk of rhythm'n'blues to the formula. And to help him attain his goals, he found a stellar backing band in the Catskills, after following Dylan's steps over there (for a relatively small town, Woodstock seemed to have quite an impressive scene, which did not wait for that famous festival to thrive). Such a backing band behind Van Morrisson brings *a lot* to *Moondance*. The saxophone section--tenor, alto and soprano--is just doing an extraordinary job, all lush and sinuous, especially on the most memorable songs ("And It Stoned Me", "Caravan" , "Into The Mystic", "Glad Tidings", "Brand New Day"). Great performances overall. As for Van Morrison's voice, recorded in live takes throughout, it is technically perfect. You really believe he is a genuine American r'n'b singer. Well, except maybe on the title track, but it's probably because that cut is a little underwhelming compared to the rest, sounding more like a jazz parody executed in a second-tier club than a genuinely interesting cut (putting this song in slot number 2 was not the brightest idea in my honest opinion). That being said, even some of the least immediately striking cuts have something going for them. Case in point: "Everyone", with its clavinette and flutes heavily drawing on Irish folk influences. And lyrically, the songs are very interesting and personal, displaying a sort of down-to-earth mysticism about love, nature and mundane experiences. Such a thing doesn't even seem possible on paper. Yet Van Morrisson pulls it off effortlessly. The only reason I'm not giving this album five stars is because as far as I like albums with a single intent in mind, this one is just a little too one-note for me. After *Astral Weeks*' commercial failure, and from this point onwards, Van Morrisson would only take calculated risks, for better or for worse. And here, it shows. But even with that minor grudge in mind, this is definitely an album to listen to before you die. [Number of albums left to review or just listen to: 983 Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 7 (including this one) Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: 6 Albums from the list I will certainly *not* include in mine (as I think many others are more important): 4 Albums on which I feel my judgment is muddled by my past forays into specific genres instead of others (some might end up on my final list if they're culturally important): 1]

Van morrison is a referent. Good singer and his compositions are great.

Morrissey and Van Morrison on consecutive days. What have I done to be saddled with these two bastions of COVID misinformation in such proximity? With that being said, this album is pretty fun. He does white guy blues without it being too cringy. Much like the last Van Morrison album that I listened to, Astral Weeks, there are lots of instrumental additions to the composition that are unexpected and well executed. I may be of the personal opinion that Van Morrison is a twat, but I guess I like his music 4/5

неплохо готовиться к европе получилось

Finally! After a run of 2* albums, something I actually like! It’s charming, playful, romantic. It’s a shame Van has turned into such an objectionable grown-up, but there you go!

One of those albums that feels like a comfy blanket or a warming drink. Soothing without being trite. Along with Tupelo Honey this is a an Morrison at his finest

Was overall decent

Yes, the night is magic.

Easy listening!

Melodic

A long time favourite. Absolute magic for the first half of the album, musical masterpiece in Into The Mystic, then a slow decrease in song quality through to the end.

This album was a pleasant experience. It’s tonalities and timbres got me in a soothed mood right from the beginning. I had never listened to Van Morrison before, maybe did not have the interest or was not ripe enough for it. Now I want to go down the rabbit hole of his music

Solid album filled with good music. One recognized song

Classic album. A good spin.

Very good. Brown-eyed girl cunningly rewritten as Glad Tidings. He was obviously a huge influence on Loudon Wainwright, who stole Come Running for People in Love. Don't like all the songs but Into the Mystic is worth 4 stars all on its own.

Another album I think I had a cheap cassette reissue of and played a great deal in a certain phase of my 20s. Not really into Van Morrison any more but this is still pretty flawless.

Belongs on the list: 5 Monumental Album: 4 Influential Album: 4 Van-the-Man™'s best disc. 4.5/5

Ah, here was Van the Man at the top of his game. Such finely skilled songs such as And It Stoned Me & Moondance, such a unique voice, such a talent. But even then, back in 1970, as a man, I bet he was still a bit of a tit.

was not bad

Moondance's a hell of a track

I've been pretty down on the 70s sound, but this just works for me. He has a good voice without all the twang to it.

Vam Morrison begin with the band "Them" and then was famous as singer alone: a referent.

This is packed full of good songs but it also has my favorite song, Caravan.

Moondance and crazy love are such great songs… rest pretty good

I like Van Morrison's music; even saw him perform not long before covid. This album contains many classics, and I will rate it without taking into account Van's... problematic tendencies.

Moondance stuck in my head for days afterwards. Is that good?

Very nice listen

Van the man's more poppy effort. Songs have soul and finesse with his amazing vocals. Ignore the fact he's a fucking terrible old man with regressive views that would make Trump blush - or at least high five him. Best Tracks: And It Stoned Me; Moondance; Into The Mystic

Quite pleasant.

Actually great. I mean I know it's great, but I hadn't properly listened before, and it's brilliant. Shame he's a grumpy sod.

Damn, what a rock-solid album. I really like his sound, very relaxed and comforting.

Heard quite a few of these love standards before. Between Cat Stevens and Van Morrison, it’s been a gravel-voiced balladeer couple of days

I knew more of these songs than I thought I would, and the ones I didn't know felt like old friends anyway. Very good stuff.

Quite good, a moody one

Wikipedia tells me this album was a huge deal. I guess it's been so influential that whatever made it so remarkable has now become commonplace? It was a nice listen, for sure. Fave track - "Glad Tidings", let's say, but I didn't feel like there were any stand out tracks - they all blended together...

A bit cheesy, but it’s a solid feel-good album that I enjoyed cleaning the kitchen to. 8/10

Pretty classic but definitely too much Van Morrison at once. On their own the songs were good, didn't have to think about anything too hard. 8

The album cover is me waiting for the next album to generate. 7/10, Moondance was a good track, nothing too special about the album in general for me though

There were some good songs but the back half got a little sing-songy to me. 7/10

So many greats on this ablum. Would listen again.

If I haven't heard this album as a whole before, I've heard most of the tracks before. All of the tracks are good, and this would be an easy album to re-play. "Crazy Love" might be my favorite track, and there are some covers of the song that I like almost as much. Liking the covers is evidence of Van Morrison's talent for writing a good song. "Into the Mystic" is another favorite.

Great.

Solid album. Haven't heard most of the tracks

Rating: 7/10 Best songs: Moondance

Van Morrison is at some of his most soulful and polished on this album that has some of his most lauded tracks. Smooth and serene the ballads go from deep longing to everyday love.

Another classic

For some reason, this album has stood the test of time. I'll definitely listen to it many times again.

Some absolute bangers on this

Kennismaking met andere muziek van van Morrison dan "Brown eyed girl" erg fijn.

If Elton John was a guitar player.

Went expecting to enjoy it but not as much as I did. Not a single bad song on the album. Starts out very strong.

A solid album with 4 or 5 amazing songs that everyone knows. Side two is pretty forgettable, but the sheer caliber of the songs on side one is mind-blowing. Songs like those feel like they must have appeared fully formed out of the ether, because it's difficult to imagine someone being talented and inspired enough to have written them. Still, it doesn't quite reach the level of those rare few albums that are filled front to back with great songs and no filler. This album does have some filler.

I'm not sure to what extent he is describing a depth of emotion I've not experienced or if he's just that good at expressing himself in song.

Classic album, no complaints.

Easy listening and soothing vocals - nice for a drive or chilling. 7/10

Great music ... Clean expressive lyrics where the instruments don't overwhelm the songs

Po meni najbolji album Van Morrisona. Pravo jesenski.

Better than I remembered it.

I’ve heard good things about this album and it didn’t let down. This is great, a warm and relaxing album to put on and just forget about everything for 40 minutes. Especially the first side of this album is absolutely perfect the 2nd side might be a bit worse but still great. Sadly the last 2 songs were kinda worse especially the last one idk why but I didn’t like it as much as the rest of the album. 8/10

Nice is a nice and fun album. I enjoyed the different rhythm/melodies, and even though most of the songs are slow I found them uplifting.

My favourite Van track on this makes it a winner for me (Moondance). Almost every song eminates warmth.

His best album for me (at least from the albums I’ve listened to) A singer at the top of his game on it - some classic songs - great stuff

very musical! like it so far. contender for 4 *?

Pretty familiar overall, but enjoying it.

Weer een zalig album. De generator is zijn best aan het doen de voorbije dagen.
