Pleasent

Some crackers on this album- Moondance, Into the Mystic, Caravan, the rest is fairly decent. 3.75/5

Easy going, lovely listen with some bangers sprinkled through

I think that if I'd grown up with this album, and could paint it more with the petina of nostalgia, I would like it more, because the songs I am familiar with I like quite a bit.

Van used to live on my old square in Bath (before my time) and was apparently seen staggering around wearing a hat. Never really been a big Van Man fan. Did enjoy this though although I don't actually like the Moondance song.

Moondance (the song) is so good dude why aren't there more songs on this album that sound like it. Favorite track: MOONDANCE!!! 3.5/5

Really good and easy listening

I wasn’t really feeling it when the first track started. I really thought this was going to be a dull, boring slog, but it quickly settled into a groove that surprised me. I ended up really enjoying the album more than I expected as a couple tracks were surprisingly soulful.

After I got his live album (which I did not like), I was waiting for this one. Much better. Starts solid, and then the title track, Moondance, which I've always loved. Continues on solid for the rest of the album. Some songs even remind me of other great songs. Crazy Love has a similar sound to a part of Ed Sheeran's Thinking Out Loud. Caravan and Glad Tidings both seem to call back to Van's own Brown Eyed Girl. Total turnaround from the last one I heard, love this one. Best song: Moondance

Liked it now than I thought I would!

overall a decent album. Its lyrics were simple but flowed well. and the music was alright. overall I think this is a ok album.

I like the jazz love the lyircs. i give it 4 out 5 because i vibe with it kinda hits the spot not bad mid. would put in my playlist.

Love this album. Gems all the way through (except maybe Everyone). Poetic stories in a signature tone - although the falsetto on Crazy Love is also nice. Every instrument and background vocal serves a purpose, and they always seem to weave in and out of the songs in a way that's just right but also often feels subtle and effortless. To me, there's really nothing else to ask for here!

First of all, the album cover looks like a meme format which has me chuckling. This is a perfect Saturday morning album. Chill, and easy listening. Solid songwriting and some interesting instrumentation

This typically would be a 3 from me but because I am listening to this on Sunday morning it gets a 4. This is a Sunday morning album for sure

Great soft rock. A sound that chills you out. Perfect for a Sunday drive or sitting around the campfire.

Great, easy to listen to album. Some of Van’s best.

Very good.

I love the seamless transitions from soul to jazz to pop. Van is Van. No one else sounds quite like him. Music to smoke fancy fags to.

Enjoyable album, definitely a Van Morrison fan. Great lyrics and catchy tunes throughout.

Turn up your radio

Not bad. Chill background music.

Obviously a lot of people dislike Van Morrison. But it's hard to argue against this being an all-time classic record. It feels effortlessly good, each song one you're surely familiar with. Is it exciting? Not really, but who cares? It's beautiful music. Just chill out and enjoy.

Only knew the title song. Loved the album, I love all the folkloric influence.

very good

Van's a tosser, sure, but I actually really like this - good memories of listening to his best of as a kid, and it remains extremely good background jazz.

I’ve forgotten how long ago it was that I last listened to this completely, but almost all the songs are ingrained in my head. The first of these albums that I’ve listened to straight through twice. I would give it 5, but I’m docking a point for Van being a douche.

How much of this rating is because it's a good album, and how much is based on the fact that I've grown up in a house with van Morrison played fairly regularly? We may never know. Either way, pop needs more flute and harpsichord in it. Good job, VM.

It's a good listen. A little on the soft side for me. It feels like you could play this in almost any situation, and people wouldn't leave or be annoyed.

Folky, jazzy, good stuff

Pretty good music. I hate that Van Morrison is such a piece of shit. But there are some real undeniable hits here.

Not a very long album but a very pleasant listen with some nice smooth tracks

This album sounds like how saw dust would sing... and I love it

A soulful and solid album.

Moondance is a great song and part of a great album. Van Morrison's distinctive voice really brings this album together. Or something pretentious. I like it.

I really really liked the album. It's not a no skipper which stops it from being a 5 star but boy is it good. It's Just overall a lot of fun. "Glad Tidings" a great closer. Favorite Songs: "Moondance" , "Crazy Love" , "Caravan" , "Come Running" , "These Dreams of You" , "Brand New Day" , "Glad Tidings"

Oh it's wonderful. On paper these are simple songs but they managed to make them more interesting with all the jazz additions. Also, usually I don't dive too deep into the lyrics but these have been great, especially with the uplifting message on Brand New Day and Crazy Love. I'm going to be coming back to this and I'll be on a lookout for a vinyl copy

Had a very misconceived notion that this would be stadium rock type music.

Very nice album. Never been a huge fan of VM but I think I could listen to this album all day. Fave Tracks: Moondance, Caravan 4.3/5

Rich & warm, a true delight of an album. Very nice to start this journey with a staple in my record collection. 'And it stoned me' is stunning in its simplicity, 'Moondance' is a shimmering little ditty. I have long earmarked 'Into The Mystic' as a potential first dance song. 'Crazy Love' and 'Caravan' sort of blend into one another and cause the album to lull a little bit through the middle. Things pick up again with 'These dreams of You' and the sweet closer 'Glad Tidings' leaves nothing but fond memories of revisiting this bonafide classic. Top 3: 1. Into The Mystic 2. These Dreams Of You 3. Brand New Day Bottom 1: 1. Come Running Overall score: 8.3/10

I don't listen to Van Morrison anywhere near enough. This is velvety smooth and just glorious. Adding this to my "liked albums" on Spotify.

I wasn't sure about this AT ALL the first time I listened. But on the second listen I started to really enjoy it.

Good album. Enjoyed the vibe

Good album, Van Morrison has a unique voice that shines through every song in a distinct way

This is pleasant to listen to for its whole runtime. Not too much to say about it. I can now say I know more than two Van Morrison songs. I think the first half of the album was better than the second half overall. Would gladly revisit in the future. Favorite songs were And It Stoned Me, Moondance, Caravan, and Glad Tidings.

first listen it's good

- Very tempted to give this 3 stars, because Van Morrison often feels like a one-trick pony with some of these songs. But damn...that trick is pretty engrossing. I can see how getting high and just vibing with this would be unbelievably relaxing. - "Crazy Love" is essentially perfect. A couple of other tracks ("And It Stoned Me", "These Dreams of You") are almost just as fantastic. - Enjoy "Moondance", though the vibe of this song is almost old-fashioned big band jazz in comparison to everything else. - Do not enjoy the last two tracks, especially "Everyone." Too fast and too busy.

I was never really that much of a Van fan outside of his collaborations with The Chieftains and his contributions to the multi-artist Long Black Veil project. And growing up he was not really a go-to for me. But the chill timeless nature of this album can’t be denied. The first five tracks alone still survive this many years later. The backend, while still good, doesn’t have quite the punch. But…an overall peaceful easy feeling.

Good timing on this one, a great album for a crisp fall walk to work. Historically I’ve never been known to throw a Van album on the stereo, but this has some of his best and Into the Mystic has always been one of my faves. A million bonus points for no Brown Eyed Girl also.

Classic chill vibes album. Starts to drag a bit towards the end but to Van's credit he doesn't prolong it too much... 39 minutes in and out. I respect that. 4/5

4/5. A jazz and pop album that Morrison balances expertly. Very poetic yet relatable and down to earth. The first half of the album has no bad songs and so beautiful. The second half does drop in quality as well. Great radio songs but it feels like there is missing emotion that was present earlier on. One of Morrison's main draws that not only does he write well but it's a voice that can only sing his songs. Some songs on here do not warrant his voice, anyone can sing them and they would provide the same feeling. To be fair, it's no bad songs but upon multiple listens, there are definitely some skips. Best Song: And It Stoned Me, Moondance, Caravan

Good sort of adventure music, relaxing

surprisingly fun

A classic.

I like van

3.8 2x

Really good, I like his work. I've heard this all before but I still like it and will listen to it many more times. Very chilled out smooth lyrics with nice music. Great music for relaxation and reflection.

Bummer he turned into an anti vax boomer weirdo. I always liked his weird voice since I was a kid. The first half of this album is a total classic to me and has my favorite songs of his. Sorta falls off near the end, but mostly that's because the first half is so strong.

Nice, bluesy. Really enjoyable album overall. 4/5

Sweet album

Few drinks and put this on 👍

Relaxed fare, pretty good.

Good, cozy, classic rock.

Was a great album. A shame he turned into a weirdo in his later years.

My dad played Van a lot when I was growing up and I do really like him. Apparently a grumpy fucker though. This is probably better than astral weeks and I gave that a 4. Not sure it's all of the same high quality though so I'll go with 4.5 here. Highlights: And it stoned me Moondance Into the mystic Glad tidings

The whole album was really enjoyable but the title song was my favorite.

Not at all what I was expecting, but very soft and mellow and sweet. Some songs felt like a late summer evening and some felt like a quiet, rainy, fall afternoon. Added a few songs to a soft playlist for later listening.

eloquent and gentle album that shifts between jazz, singer-songwriter, americana, and rock while still maintaining that easy confident air that comes from Van Morrison. It's easy to see why he's so popular.

Van the man at his finest.

The first time I heard “Into the Mystic” was at the movie theatre watching “Dream a Little Dream”. Only the first half of the song was used but man I wanted the rest of it. There is just something magical about the flow and elegance of it. This entire album can be described as whimsical. “Everyone” has a feeling like you are dancing through a Renaissance Festival. “Stoned Me” is a classic-rock radio standard and “Crazy Love” reflects the love that we all wish we had time and again. Then he brings it all home with “Glad Tidings”, an uptempo song that leaves you feeling rejuvenated at the end of a midday nap in the sun with the one you love. I found this album recently on vinyl and have been loving it. Fortuitous timing I guess.

A dreamy interstellar voyage captained by a bohemian mystic with tasseled sleeves. It’s as hard to unhear the dad rock factor as it is to not be melted by the swaying rhythms and bluesy vocal hooks. Gaelic R&B at its most accessible, maybe.

What an album. Great sound and great music. Van has such a distinctive voice and I really enjoyed it.

Good album with some really catchy songs. Really like Van Morrison’s vocals and the songs are well written. Good listen and will definitely listen again.

Yeah, this is pretty great. Nothing is as good as Astral Weeks, but this collection is so laden with hooks and tasty arrangements that it's an embarrassment of riches. Twenty years ago, this would have been an easy 5 for me. Today, I don't love it as much, but it still gets me tapping the steering wheel and singing and just generally embarrassing my daughter.

It's overplayed and a classic for a reason and it continues to stone me.

I really vibed with the mix of rock, folk and jazz with this album. It was really chilled and laid back, but I also felt like I could dance along as well. A lot of fun, and I really enjoyed it.

The album it self was kinda bad, but the recommendations based on it were very good, so it's clearly impactful

I've heard the album before. Interesting mix of styles, all punctuated by his instantly identifiable vocals. Very listenable and lively. A few classics here, and Moondance is still a wonder; doesn't seem like there is anything like it on another rock album. A classic album -- strong 4 stars.

Into the Mystic is one of my favorite songs, period. The rest of the album is soothing and easy on the ears. Not sure how such beauty could be created by a person who later becomes an antisemitic conspiracy theorist curmudgeon. Five stars minus one for knowing what I know in 2024.

Great vocals and songwriting. Pleasant and relaxed.

Don't think I had ever listened to the entire album before. Really enjoyed it...will definitely listen to it again.

Amazing album mixed of jazz, r&b, blues, pop styles

178/1001 🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑

Good album if you like the singer songwriter thing

Really enjoyed this. Think he sounds far newer than late 60s/ early 70s

Actually surprised how much I enjoyed this. It is chill and fun. I like his voice and the upbeat songs are fun.

The regular 'Morri reminder' that it's about the music not the musician!

Bueno rollo tranqui por la mañana

Classic full of classic songs. Incredible 5 song run to start the record. Catchier and hookier than Astral Weeks, much more immediately engaging but I do think it loses some of the majesty that Astral Weeks had. Into the Mystic is one of the greatest songs of all time, can listen to it endlessly. Love the production on this, feels very warm and the added horns and back up vocals add a ton of depth. Impeccable run tune too, nothing feels over stated and at 38 min and change it’s easy enough to pop on for repeated listens. Great record

Turns out, Van is the Man! Great Album

There are only a couple of Van Morrison albums I really enjoy and Moondance is one of them. Never been a fan of the man, but the music on Moondance is beautiful, mellow and laid-back and highlights Van Morrison's strength as a songwriter and his talent to write a great song, when he wants to. The title track is marvelous! A classic, if you're into this sort of thing.

I could not have told you what kind of music Van Morrison was before this album came up here, but I really liked it. Thanks to this week's albums I now know the difference between Morrissey and Van Morrison. "And It Stoned Me" is a great, catchy opener. "Into the Mystic" is the top track.

Well, after previously claiming that no Van Morrison albums belong on the list, this is... embarrassing. I always liked the sound on Astral Weeks, but it is an uneven album. This follow-up is a very solid album with a totally new sound. Good songs, and Morrison's distinctive voice on top form. The blend of blues, folk and soul touches into pop-rock works great. The album has variety but it hangs together well. I'm not allowing my judgement to be clouded by the next 50 years of stodgy releases and Covid misinformation mania that came from Van the Man... 4.5*

That was very good! Sweet and to the point.

I wasn't impressed much by this album on my first listen, but I definitely am appreciating it more the second time around. I feel like this would be perfect music to play while cleaning the house. Very peaceful and relaxing.

Great album Standout songs: And it stoned me Caravan Everyone

What an great album.

It's not until you hear Moondance back-to-back with Crazy Love that you realize Michael Buble is really just a (poor) Van Morrison tribute act. This was my first time listening to a whole Van Morrison album. Overall I enjoyed it. The Irish-folk-tinged blue-eyed soul is very smooth listening — like a quintessential Starbucks album before coffee shop music really existed. Some of the lyrics, particularly the choruses, are pretty lazy — a lot of ay-yay-yays and la-la-las — but otherwise he's a good songwriter. The downside is that it's kind of boring. Most of the songs sound pretty similar to each other (and the opening track basically rips off the melody of The Weight by The Band). The last two tracks, Everyone and Glad Tidings, are the only songs that really sound significantly different, but even then, Glad Tidings is basically a retread of Morrison's earlier hit, Brown Eyed Girl (there's even an overt guitar reference to it). 4/5 — probably a 3.5, but I'll round up because I'd definitely listen to this again on a lazy Sunday.

An absolutely singular voice in the history of music.

Moondance // Crazy Love // Into the Mystic // Brand New Day //

++: Crazy Love, Into the Mystic, Come Running +: And It Stoned Me, Moondance, These Dreams of You, Brand New Day, Everyone, Glad Tidings +-: Caravan 7,9/10

Hard to believe he's Irish. Great voice and soul.

Brilliant

Good album!

Really good. Lots of feel good music and a great Sunday listen.

First time listening to it. I quite liked the sound, though it didn't blow me away. It's a perfectly nice album

Ooh, I actually liked this far more than I had anticipated . Missed a 5 star because it drops off a bit towards the end. A nice find though

Favorite Tracks: Into the Mystic Moondance Crazy Love

One of my favorite albums.

Good work. Highlights: And It Stoned Me Moondance Caravan Brand New Day

Good vibes, works well as background music while doing chores or making dinner.

Yeah pretty good 7.5/10

Very good. Almost a 5

This collection of songs feels like a cozy night by the fire. It's warm and inviting, and the saxophone adds a touch of magic. It's hard not to tap your feet or sway along. Perfect for unwinding after a long day.

Chill den og

Listening to this album from start to finish was very nostalgic. I knew a bunch of the songs but my childhood brain never put it together that they were from the same album. Man, was I missing out, this album is stellar. So poetic and effortless, Van's signature tone really delivers on this one. Great storyteller, fantastic songwriter, excellent blend of folk, blues, and jazz. I love all of it.

It’s just so good!!

p205. 1970. 4 stars Quality Celtic soul, still sounds fresh today. Great vocals, fabulous horn section, all that's missing are more standout songs.

a little samey. got some standout tracks, incl. the singles, but everything else blends together a bit. it's a good blend though, and what a voice van has

So far, Van Morrison is one of those artists you can’t seem to go wrong with. I say so far because I still have plenty more of his albums to work through. What I find really impressive about him is the way he blends so many different genres into his songs—from rock, folk, jazz, blues, and soul to R&B, and who knows how many more. While I like some of his stuff more than others, across the board, he makes really good quality music. This album is pretty good from beginning to end.

Pretty decent album, a classic.

Helt udmærket fra begyndelsen, sniger sig op på 4 ved de sidste 2-3 numre. Rigtig godt album

Great album. Smooth, distinctly Van Morrison. Has some hits. There's a lot to love here.

Memories unlocked by some of these songs.

Classic. Great album all around

Prior to listening to this entire album I did not realize it has so many of Morrison's classic songs. These include " And It Stoned Me", "Moondance (of course) and "Into The Mystic". Second half of album not the same level as first but still no question this is a must listen album.

Alegre

As with more albums on this list, this is again a case of Side A vs Side B. If the whole album had the quality of the first 5 songs, this would be an absolute masterpiece

Sturlað albúm. Bara góð lög IMO nema Everyone (hvað var hann að pæla). Hann er gjörsamlega búinn að missa vitið í dag, en þarna á þessum tíma var hann bara good ole' fashioned kunta sem söng og glamraði mjög vel. Glad tidings er uppáhaldið mitt þarna útaf Sopranos þættinum þegar Tony skýtur Tony B (Steve Buscemi). Geggjuð sena. Bæng!

Van Morrisson ljúfur og góður. Fyrstu þrjú lögin gull og saxófónninn í These dreams of you.

BloobsPls

Adorei, voz boa, som bom, pegada excelente. Muito boa a experiência.

def expected sth else. but pleased

Some really good songs on this record.

I enjoyed this one quite a bit. Some really good songs and some excellent sound production on it as well. Good stuff.

Love Moondance so why not

This dumbass makes some pretty good music

I grew up with my folks having this album on constant rotation - excited for a sweet hit of nostalgia tonight. "Into the Mystic" is one of my favorite Van Morrison tunes.

Slow start but some absolute slappers

Bette than Astral Weeks, not as good as Its Too Late to Stop Now, Van’s craft is bettered for the great band accompanying him. A few songs feel overly familiar from endless radio play but I guess that’s not his fault - but the familiarity breeds a little contempt from time to time. But generally a great sound and decent songs.

I first discovered this album, and more so the title song, back in high school. A girl I was dating had told me to listen to it and it was around that time that I had really been hearing a lot of this sort of classic rock. The relationship did not last very long, but my love for this song did. Even when I hear it now, I don't think about her so much as I think about me in high school during that time with my old radio cd player in my room. Into the Mystic is also a classic on here. Really glad this album made it on here!

Awesome album, been waiting for some Van Morrison. This one's got some big classics, the title track is such a bizarre but undeniable hit, the jazzy nature of it is so unique. "Caravan" is another big one, and beyond those there are still gems to be found in the deeper cuts. I love the texture of his voice, it feels nostalgic even on tracks I haven't heard before. Not sure how many more ways to say I love this, it just hits the spot. Favorite tracks: Moondance, Crazy Love, And It Stoned Me, Caravan, Come Running, These Dreams of You, Everyone, Glad Tidings. Album art: A few headshots of Van himself I'm assuming, one big one on the right and four smaller shots on the left, photo booth printout style. It's nothing crazy at all, but definitely more creative than the average portrait shot cover. Font is fine. 4.5/5

Really enjoyed this.

We enjoyed this a lot, which for sale reason was a surprise. Nice and folky with good vibes.

Positive. Great voice. Great mood - many track would be good for an after party or early morning

Yeah, cracking album, even if Van is a bit of a dick. He can write a tune.

Some real heaters on here.

I never listened to this bloke until well into the 1980s when I was living in Ireland. Instantly appreciated the stature of his talent.. 4 stars.

Rating: 8.5/10 Great folk album with plenty of great vocal melodies and great instrumentation.

Van Morrison's popularity was one I got really confused about until I heard the music. Van Morrison offers some nice jazzy and country elements blended in, and it sounds amazingly well produced for the 70s. The vocals are very nice and smoothing, the instruments are well thought out and played, and overall, really nice sound. It's one of the more memorable albums of the early 70s, in my opinion. Solid album overall. 89/100

V pleasant, no complaints

Core memories from childhood of my dad warbling Moondance off key. I think that this album is great straight through. Do I support Van Morrison? No. Have to separate the art and the artist

Mellow and vibey

Caravan is an amazing tune

Super solid, couldn’t listen everyday.

Great album. Fantastic voice, emotional lyrics.

I thought this was great. Van Morrison's voice obviously changed with age, but this was him at his best, and "Moondance" was particularly memorable.

Didn’t realize he had written many of these songs. I enjoyed it.

I’m a fan even though it’s before my time. Even love the sampling/remake mix of Into the Mystic that Zac Brown Band did. Have and will continue to listen to this album.

The first two tracks are excellent, especially Moondance. The rest of the album is pretty good too. Nice use of flute, saxophone, harmonica, etc. His voice is unmistakable.

Moondance and Into the Mystic are great, the rest are decent

This isn’t as good as Astral Weeks for me, although that doesn’t necessarily rule out a fiver. Into The Mystic is an absolute tuuuuunnnee and Moondance itself is up there. But I would say it needs a couple more to hit full marks. Simpsons: No

Good vibes enjoyed this album.

Into the Mystic is about as good as it gets. Deserving classic. It probably deserves five stars, He just seems unpleasant. Plus side b starts to feel a bit like the same song.

And It Stoned Me... Moondance Caravan Into The Mystic Brand New Day

01) And It Stoned Me - 7,5 02) Moondance - 8,5 03) Crazy Love - 8,5 04) Caravan - 7,5 05) Into The Mystic - 8,5 06) Come Running - 7,0 07) These Dreams Of You - 7,5 08) Brand New Day - 7,0 09) Everyone - 7,5 10) Glad Tidings - 7,5 TOTAL: 7,70 (77/100) Current ranking: 87/179 Well, I'm not really enthusiastic about this album. I mean, it's not bad, but it's also not something I'd want to listen to again. One song I'm half-familiar with ("Moondance"), while the others all try to sound like "Brown Eyed Girl". And I know it sounds too harsh for the rating I gave, but I think my criteria are too low :-) This is 3.5 stars rounded up to 4.

An all time classic singer / songwriter. Doesn’t get enough praise. Solid album start to finish. 4.25

Cool songs, good album!

La verdad es que este disco sí que me parece que va en mi mood de ahora mismo

It's a classic, filled with quality tunes and sounds great, but something about Van always rubs me a little bit the wrong way.

This takes me back - Moondance was the theme of my senior prom back in the day. Van Morrison is really the perfect sitting on the deck with a beer type of music. This is a great hanging out album. Moondance and Into the Mystic are favorite tracks, but there are really no bad tracks here. Very enjoyable album. 4

This was a cool chill album. I have heard it before, but it was just a great album to listen to. I was struck honestly by how good it sounded from a mix perspective.

Moondance is one of my mom's favorite albums so I was excited to listen to it. The titular song is definitely the best in the album, but other songs like "Into the Mystic" and "Caravan" were great too. I also did not know "Crazy Love" originated in this album, which was cool. The rest of the album was a little more forgettable but due to the strong first half I'll give it a 4/5

I have no idea how this band was as successful as it was.

And It Stoned Me - 4.5/5 Moondance - 5/5 Crazy Love - 4/5 Caravan - 4/5 Into the Mystic - 4.5/5 Come Running - 4/5 Those Dreams of You - 4.5/5 Brand New Day - 4/5 Everyone - 3/5 Glad Tidings - 3.5/5 Album Overall - 4.1/5

Still love this album after so many years.

4.5/5. Very good. I'm not huge about his other albums, but this album was enjoyable.

Sounds pretty good! Very prolific dude too damn

Saxophones and keyboard are nice. Don't really have a lot of saxophone in modern pop music. The title song "Moondance" is pretty famous. It's good too (not a huge fan of the singing). The bass is dope. Crazy love is also pretty famous, and good. Bro the bass just sets the VIBES. Into the mystic sounds like a sick bass song

Soothed my soul the first day back at work for the summer term... Play this album and I Come Running (you'd get that if you know the album well...)

Folk and jazz combo works nicely

Van Morrison is wel echt een blues legende. Vind z’n stem goud en Into the Mystic vind ik briljant. Die heeft zo’n drietonig blueslickje wat me doet denken aan bijv. de Fleetwood Mack met de legendarische Peter Green er nog in. Van Morrison bleek in het echte leven echt een ongelofelijk klootzak te zijn. Love it.

Really good!

And It Stoned Me Moondance Caravan Into the Mystic Come Running These Dreams of You Very great experience listening to this. Beautiful voice and well constructed all around.

Liked this more than I thought I would since I was bored by astral projections. I do hate HATE and it stoned me. But caravan and into the mystic make up for it.

A classic, it still hasn't grown tired for me

Great stuff

Nice classis builder album

Van is the Man! Love all his music.

This album brings me back to road trips with my mother

A nice jazzy folksy album. Van Morrison sings very soulfully. "Moondance" is deservedly a huge hit. "Brand New Day" and "Glad Tidings" are good songs too.

Very much nearing a full 5/5 I have to say maybe after a few more listens. This was really great

Disfrutón

Highly enjoyable, good production, great voice and songwriting, cool Bass lines... Not 5 stars, but an easy 4

Van at its best.

Genuinely a fantastic album, so calming and cool. Into the mystic is a great track, there was only one that wasn't to my taste. He could've been a roackstar with that voice but he made this instead- and I thank him. Great start- loved it.

Sometimes his voice sounds like he’s washing down peanut butter with soda

Ivan is such a great songwriter. I'm not always into the stuff he writes, but he does such a great job of putting original melodies over the tunes.

A smooth blend of country/folk, jazz, and soft rock. I enjoyed Morrison's vocals and sax

Quite enjoyable, will probably listen again!!

Typical Van Morrison - this album is from 1970! It sounds like much newer Van Morrision songs. I like it.

Before listening, I think I’ve only heard the one Van Morrison song (Brown Eyed Girl). May he’s one of those artists where you don’t realise how many songs you actually know, so I’m going into this album optimistically. Let’s listen! Songs I already knew: Moondance Favourites: Moondance, And It Stoned Me I was expecting pop rock, but this is so much more. It’s no surprise that I never clicked that Moondance was Van Morrison, as it sounds more jazz/swing than anything. There are saxophones, flutes, and plenty of other instrumentation here that I wasn’t not expecting, and was certainly a very welcome surprise. Van Morrison is a much more talented songwriter than I realised.

Lovely folk

Classic album that for the most part, lives up to it.

Good music, a very vintagey morning vibe.

Blues, Country Singer with Jazz elements

This is some feel good music. My moods lifting just listening to it.

I'm a fan of Van Morrison, and even though I don't often seek out his stuff this deserves a spot on the list.

Excellent album, but not quite a masterpiece. My only knocks is the sax and that some tunes feel a bit similar to others. 4.2/5

"And It Stoned Me", "Moondance", "Crazy Love", "These Dreams of You" and "Glad Tidings" are standout tracks. Top-tier soft rock.

#throwiton Few albums define an era like Moondance, a 1970 release that brings together several of our all-time favorite Van Morrison tracks. The opener, “And It Stoned Me,” simmers with the swaggering soul inflection that runs through most of the album. But the fusion of jazz, folk, R&B, and Irish mysticism is a stylistic playground for the volcanic vocalist. He’s clearly having a blast—whether he's gliding through the Sinatra-esque title track or belting out a full-throated command to “turn it up…the radio” on “Caravan.”

pretty good. moondance was a good nice vibe to it. little jazzy and i likee

Enjoyed this more than expected. Classy pop music, great horn arrangements. I have a copy of Astral Weeks that rarely gets played, and I'm sure I'll see it on this list sooner or later.

Another classic, by all accounts

This was good - chilled and fun.

I get why so many folks were into him during college. Good vibe when that's the mood you're after

This was a nice one for sure. Ultimately for me it doesn’t quite make it to a 5 - Moondance is of course special track even after being played to within an inch of its life but the rest of the record, while still good, doesn’t match up. Still I would put this on any day of the week.

These Dreams Of You - the worst example of that soft-rock-jazz-folk fusion; hate it. And, Everyone is an odd fit, with it's twiddeling Baroque harpischord thing going on. But And It Stoned Me will now stay with me always.

an odd mix of vocals that are entirely not jazz and an easy listening backing track. it doesnt /not/ work but still….. 5/7. id probably listen to it again the mix is intriguing

Really good . Really good. “Everyone” is random.

Definitely a classic album that is deserving to be on the list. While it didn't blow me away, there were a lot of great songs. Best Songs: Moondance, Crazy Love, Worst Songs: Come Running, Everyone

Weather Channel sounding. Morning Commute to The City sipping coffee from a travel mug ass. Pretty good.

Inre frid o mysigt. Gillar artisten

Excellent, love it

This is a cozy album, the kind that makes you fantasize about having nothing that needs doing, drinking coffee while staring at the rain out the kitchen window, reminiscing. The music is equal parts Jim Croce and Vince Guaraldi, with beautifully balanced and recorded arrangements. Van's unique voice has a timbre that pulls you in and makes you want to listen, though frankly it teeters on the edge of abrasive after 3-4 songs, thankfully never quite getting there due to his grasp of dynamics. The lyrics are poetic without being oblique, with accessible narrative themes. Into the Mystic is probably my favorite track, and Moondance my least. It may be in part due to being overplayed in my lifetime, but even listening as objectively as possible I think it's overrated. Glad Tidings is a good tune, but reads as a Brown Eyed Girl retread, or more charitably, a sequel. There's not really anything bad to say about "Moondance" as an album, but the lack of variation in themes hurts the replay factor for me.

A good album to listen to while doing other things.

So so so good. Smooth music to soothe your soul.

Really nicely recorded

Classic album

First 5 songs are absolute classics. Next 5 songs were somewhat forgettable, especially compared to the first 5 songs. Still a classic album.

I enjoyed this album. Every track had its own groove. You can tell Van Morrison was influenced by folk, jazz, and rock as there are elements of these genres throughout all of his songs. I particularly liked his voice, both the loud yells and the quiet, crystal clear notes. I am glad I was exposed to Van Morrison, and I will be listening to him in the future.

A very good album but definitely carried by the hits - some amazing songs but an equal amount that just don’t stand out to me.

It's so good! Folky and jazzy, sincere and fun. It's also aged like wine. I do wish there was more variety in pacing; the middle portion of the album made me a wee bit sleepy. Highlights: And It Stoned Me, Moondance, Crazy Love

A classic album; always good to listen to. 4 stars

Not his best but still enough soul and beauty to fill you up. Great listen.

Alegre.

Summery Irish folk dance that beckons for a period long past its prime.

Very enjoyable listen

Pretty awesome. Good voice, music, lyrics, songwriting/composition. I dig it.

I don't really have much to say about this album. This is really good. Van Morrison's singing style is pretty unique for an artist like him, but I like it. I think he makes it work. The writing is nothing crazy, but certainly isn't bad. The sound of this album is quite nice. I like the varied instrument usage throughout the album. I've heard some people say that the second half is quite a bit worse than the first half. I would probably agree, although the second half isn't that bad. Overall, this is just a solid album that deserves to be on this list. It's a real shame that Van Morrison is kind of a wacko these days, but what are you gonna do about it? 4/5. Good album.

Van Morrison may be a pretty bad person, but man can he croon. Moondance is a timeless album that's good for just about any occasion. The title track is excellent. Caravan is one of my favorites off of the album, and may be one of my favorites in his discography. All of the acoustic instrumentation on this album really fits the vibe and let's Van's voice shine.

I like this album, what stood out to me first was the instrumentation. On a second listen I began to appreciate the vocals more. Not sure it's an instant 5 star but it could move that way with more listens.

I could imagine this album being in my parents car permanently

Good album. Moon Dance is the classic.

it feels so much like a sweet and soft caress, i love the the way in which every instrument has its own life and adds something to the songs while always feeling elegant and not out of place. i also love the general uplifting feeling that permeates the whole record, it managed to keep me thrilled up until the end, even if i'll admit that i felt some moments in which some of the tunes dragged on for just a bit too long.

didn't really have time for a full review, but i liked it a lot. i enjoyed most of the tracks (especially the istrumental)

Me gustó, Moondance es un clasicazo. Muy buena voz de whisky blusero, hermosa combinación de estilos y ritmos.

A classic.

This is more like it, a bit of Van The Man (Who We No Longer Listen To). It's brilliant, although I find the title track irritating for some reason. He's got an unreal voice though and it balances real depth with a sense of lightness throughout. Not quite a five, but a lovely way to spend a Sunday morning cooking.

I do love the smoky, soulful voice Van Morrison has. Some of the songs have a relaxing, magical feel to them. It’s a very good spin.

Great album with good vibes and some classic songs!

Always loved this album.

Gött album funkar i de flesta stunder! Ingen riktig banger men skönt album. 3-4, snäll idag så en 4a får den. Kmr lyssna igen

Excelente album de Van Morrison. Moondance es una canción HERMOSA y también es soundtrack de August Rush 𝄞❤️

Liked most of the music. Great combo of rock, jazz and lyrics.

Through the Mystic is a great song.

I can hear the talent. But the R&B inflections don’t resonate well with me.

It's the guy from Brown-Eyed Girl! Could be CCR but he's from Ireland? Me confuse!

‘Into the Mystic’ is marvelous. That song alone has influenced my awarding of a 4.

Lots of sax but not too jazzy. Wouldn't have known he was from Northern Ireland.

Enjoyable easy listening

Oh this was good. Standouts: Moondance, Crazy Love, And it Stoned Me, Come Running,

Virkilega góð plata! Næstum fullkomin.

Vanny Mo is a great singer songwriter with an Impressive vocal range. I Knew Moondance. Best songs are And it Stone Me (a simple song about boys fishing), the inspirational Brand New Day (featuring a gosepl backing vocal trio) and Glad Tidings (a spiritual twin to Brown Eyed Girl)

Van Morrison rocks. I guess I never gave him much of a listen past the hits but this album was a good listen. I think the stand out tracks for me are Moondance and caravan. I’ll definitely revisit this at some point.

As I’ve gotten older the most loved albums of people 10-20 years older than me have all sounded better and better.

This was quite a pleasant album. Some of the songs blend into one another, but at least they're good. He was really going for a Brown Eyed Girl II on Glad Tidings. 7/10

Now this is the kind of dad rock I like! Soulful ramblings about making love, gypsies and making love to gypsies. In some ways this feels thematically and lyrically similar to his previous album, Astral Weeks. However, on this one he really managed to tighten up the instrumentals and pull it together into more concise and coherent songs. Although many people probably like this album's style better, I prefer the long, freeform songs on astral weeks. Tl;Dr Gypsy lalalala gypsy avenue

Easy pleasant driving music. I was disappointed at first but after 2-3 songs it got really good. Stand-out: Come Running

A real solid folk-rock album.

Started well and ended well. Dropped a little in the middle. But good stuff nonetheless.

Musically and lyrically, its pretty great Just can’t stand his voice sometimes Favourite tracks: Moondance, Crazy Love

i’m liking all the sounds that are happening, listening with headphones is so lovely favorites: moondance, caravan, brand new day

Great classic album with awesome songwriting. Perfectly captures the spirit of the time. However, I would have loved to hear the title track with proper musicians. The bass player on "Moondance" totally destroys the walking bass and the other musicians also struggle with the swing feel.

A cool album filled with folky soul and and one classic that I knew, found a few I quite liked.

Distinctive and charming - it an easy listen but ultimately there's only the title track that reaches heady heights.

Solid, love the variety, most of the songs and definitely will wanna relisten to this at some point

Great sound, easy to listen to. Evocative songwriting. That bluesy, soulful voice. Seems like a nice album to listen to on a rainy day and sipping tea. Crazy Love and Into the Mystic are my favorites on this album.

This has the impossible job of being compared to Astral Weeks. That album is perfect; this one is slightly less so.
