Reviews (page 7 of 13)
Great
This is another group that gets mentioned in the Goths(2017) song Abandoned Flesh. That definitely made me want to like it more than I do. I did like it, but I'm not sure that I would listen again. It was very atmospheric and I liked the mood the album captured but none of the songs really stood out to me. One of the reviews mentioned it being a good rainy day album which makes sense to me. Maybe I'd enjoy it more if I was in the right place for it. Fav song: M Least fav: The Final Sound
Some stuff I quite liked and then also some weird choices: the background noise in A Reflection made me think there were building works happening outside my office and the mixing on Secrets and At Night was like the lyrics were being whispered. Overall fairly unremarkable album. Favourite song: A Forest Least: A Reflection
Not really a huge Cure fan, especially back in 1980 - I was more of a Judas Priest / Ozzy / AC/DC kind of listener. But I can see its appeal. It is a bit more minimalist and instrumental than I thought it would be.
Okay, niot my thing but i shoudl relisten a few more times
this was an ok album. I enjoyed listening to it while making dinner but probably would not search it out to listen to it again.
Really chill mood setting cure. Didn't seem like much lyrics and felt short but thought it was great. (But think they do better)
The Final Sound
Good
The cure is a total blind spot for me (a lot of these artists are). I liked this a lot actually but I kind of feel like the music was so nice and the guys voice almost ruined it? Favorite is the forest
their other stuff is better but good for background like working
Good will revisit
The forest är en klassiker, annars inte bästa skivan.
Just not a huge fan of The Cure
7/10 Highlights: M A Forest
The Cure started to get their sound on this LP. A Forest is the 5 star and best track by far but there are lot of slow burn number that get better with listening even if the album isn't quite as good as the ones that followed it.
It was alright by me
A little better than a 3 I think but not quite a 4 for me.
Gótico y post punk cómo esperas de un álbum de ellos. Increíble lo SUMO que suenan algunas canciones, lineas de bajo, o ritmos. Oscuro album. Y pocas canciones bien hit. Banco la búsqueda. 6/10
Kinda boring, a little too abstract to be catchy
another one. probably was really interesting when it came out but, weren't really arsed
3/5
I have no idea what kind of vibe The Cure is going for with this album. It would be like a totally different genre every few songs. It was interesting, but I can't really say I liked it.
I'm playing catch up and have to review a few albums I missed, so I was really hoping that I wouldn't have to play a record that would require pondering on lyrics. Fortunately, this album had barely any singing. But in spite of that this is still a solid album. I like The Cure, generally speaking, but I'd never even heard of this record. It's not a sophomore slump following a poppier Three Imaginary Boys. And while there weren't many tracks that stood out, the consistent tone of the album shows a band that was mature enough to take a sound that was less commercial and make the best of it. Three Imaginary Boys has great tracks, it’s definitely punkier with songs like Object and So What. But these tracks with the electric drum kit and the bass that drives the melody like on Play for Today are phenomenal. Did I need to hear this before I die? It’s an easy album to turn on and just vibe with.
My reviews are becoming a challenge in finding clever ways to say "it's ok"
Dreary, dark, and full of potential. Pretty experimental but you can absolutely hear their future.
I always want to like the Cure but I kind of just don't. Oh well.
A descent album. Not my favorite of theirs, nor their most popular. Maybe a few too many instrumentals for a band not known for them, but certainly a listenable album.
I really just need to do a full Cure discography listen ... enjoyed this one, may enjoy it more with multiple listens.
Turns out … I only like a handful of Cure songs , the rest I’m indifferent about
Leuk, kan op achtergrond
Good chill alter vibe I like
I have a soft spot for the cure. Always like there sound.
Spooky
A Forest is one the great Cure songs. M is also awesome. But the rest of this album sounds like a band that is starting to develop its sound but hasn’t yet matured. The music is not as complex and rich as the Cure’s later music becomes. It’s also kind of repetitive. Again, the foundation of what’s to become a great band is clearly there. You can hear it’s coming. Just not there yet. But still really good.
Idk what to think, maybe Im just not the album person, butttt that are not good albums
estuvo bien, ok, un roce diferente a lo que pensaba de the cure y mas bien aburrido to a veces pero me gusto, mucho instrumental y ya al final no me engancho tanto
The Cure is fantastic at creating a particular type of dreamy soundscape. This one had a few nostalgia bombs, and some great tracks. Overall I think it would be perfect if you were in a particular mood but outside of The Forest and Play for Today is lacked a certain something for me. I had Disintegration a few weeks ago, I fail to see how those two were different enough to justify two Cure albums on a list of 1001 when there are so many amazing artists out there.
Es bueno, pero no algo que me haya volado la cabeza Me agrada que me haya hecho sentir como en Twin Peaks, o si estuviera en un viaje nocturno en carretera buscando respuestas a algo que me está dando vueltas a la cabeza. I'd listen to it again...
Lot of electronic stuff going on here, not what I was expecting for some reason. Decent, but I wouldn't relisten.
Not what I thought the cure sounded like. Some cool instrumental sections but overall pretty average
Another example of an album that came out a little ahead of when I started discovering my own musical style. I'm familiar with many songs on the album but not the album itself. I was introduced to The Cure a little bit later. I might enjoy listening to this every no and again.
Slow and kind of meandering. Lacks the quality they have on their other albums. Not necessarily a bad album though. 3/5 Probably won’t listen again
Good album. But unfortunately, I've already listened to Disintegration which blows this out of the water. Still, excellent addition.
Fave songs are A Forest, M and Seventeen Seconds.
Enjoyed it, not a great knowledge of the cure so good introduction
This is my second Cure album after Disintegration. Immediately, I notice that they kept it a single album, rather than a double. It does sound a little poppier in some respects, with more hooks and less drawn-out atmospheric songs. However, it's still unmistakably a Cure album, and their trademark mournful lyricism and downbeat vocals are very much present here. Many of the songs feel somewhat drawn out despite being only 3 or 4 minutes in most cases. This is not as good as Disintegration, but it is still a solid album worth a listen.
Solid.
Love the forest but not sure on the rest tbh
6/10, easy listen, quite chill.
Aight
Bland rock. Kinda good, calming.
Meh. Nothing memorable about this album and most of the songs sound about the same. (3)
This one didn’t grab me immediately. It’s stark, minimal, and pretty relentlessly dark. Compared to some of the band’s later, more expansive work, it feels restrained to the point of emotional distance. That said, it grew on me as it went along. The repetition becomes hypnotic rather than dull, and the bass-driven minimalism creates a strong sense of atmosphere. Tracks like “A Forest” show just how effective the band can be with such a sparse palette. I respect what it’s doing and appreciate the mood it establishes, but it doesn’t quite hit the emotional heights I know this band can reach. A solid 3.5—thoughtful and influential, even if not fully resonant for me.
A bit too dark and somber for my taste. The tracks I liked the most (Play for Today, A Forest) I feel were the most energetic ones. There’s still a lot of cool riffs in this album, and the vocals are quite pleasant, so I definitely liked it, but the atmosphere was not my thing. 7/10
Quite enjoyed this
kinda just meh
Mediocre
Scrotums
It's fine. I like The cure. I enjoyed the vibe of this album, maybe it is for a certain mood that does not pair too much with sticky hot summer in Buenos Aires but still, fun and haunty.
It's a soft and calm record, it shows where they come from in a musical stand point, tenderness and relaxing environments. A legend in the making.
Never got into this band but I don't hate them either. But this is a great example of early 80s mopey alternative music. Overall a pretty good album.
3.5
Poor first half great second half, A Forest is one of my favourite Cure songs and Seventeen Seconds is also great
Iconic vocals and guitar sounds. Album starts a bit slowly and plainly. This album certainly doesn't feature The Cure's most ear-wormy songs or radio-friendly hits (A Forest is the stand-out track) but there is a nice sound throughout it all.
Disintegration is already on the list and its the first I got so the rest are going to pale in comparison. Dont think we need to listen to 3 Cure albums before we die. 2.5/5. Raising to a 3.
Kule greier. Sterk treer!
Possibly the best Cure record I’ve heard aside from Disintegration. Still not my thing on most days
more lyrics
I enjoyed it all the way through, but very little stuck with me. It’s good as a vibe album in the background when I’m doing something else, but I think I’d get bored of it on its own.
this genre tends to be a bit slow for my taste and that is present here but this is still incredibly solid, and i don’t really have anything bad to say about it. very well put together.
I should love The Cure, what with my dubious tastes and all. I have listened to all of their albums before, a teenage exploration in trying to hunt down my next obsession, but beyond the singles I already enjoyed, I didn't discover many new songs I liked. I dismissed them as a singles band I respected, if didn't love. It'll be interesting to see if I have changed. My thoughts on the band haven't really changed, but paying closer attention now there are more non-singles I enjoy. I doubt I'll ever be fully on board with Smith's vocals. Even having heard this album several times decades ago, there wasn't anything I remembered. This debut doesn't have any big hitters, but they have their mood down pat already. Opening with an instrumental is pretty ballsy, or silly, depending on how you look at it. Secrets is a banger. The angular, jangly guitars which would be a trademark of the band and much of British alternative through the decade, is not a sound I'm overly found of, but here the gloomier mood seems to suit it. Plus the riffs are solid. The album feels a little cheap now - dated in its production quality. The drums feel wafer thin. The dreary mood and jangly sound starts to feel repetitive by the second half, and at that point the lack of any big hitters starts to make the process feel like a slog. Not their best album by any stretch, but like all of these lists which rank by importance, the fact that this was their first carries some weight.
I’m surprised to see a Cure album without any of their radio hits on this list. This was very goth as you might expect
lyssnade inte så noga
Actually good album. Legendary. I need to go back to it sometime
I dont have an outspoken opinion on the cure.
My second album from The Cure after Disintegration and while I did enjoy it, I didn’t like it anywhere near as much. There are some great songs on here, M and A Forest in particular. Just as a whole it didn’t blow my socks off like Disintegration did. Maybe it needs another couple of listens. Top Track - A Forest
was listening to this while on the road,, towards the end it gets really eerie
Really enjoyed the first two songs and the whole ambience is very cool. Definitely understand the 'gothic rock' description haha! The Forest is a great tune
Very atmospheric, but honestly feels a bit bare at points. Not my favourite version of The Cure. 6/10
This didn't do anything for me, OK background music though
leider BORINGGG
nicht spannend, schade
Have not listen to much of the cure other than their radio hits. This was good I especially like the live cuts on the deluxe release. Would give 3.5 if I could.
Twas fine not my favorite Cure album
An ok album, with some great ideas but very few fully realized. I see potential, and I see a lot of talent, but also not a fully mature sound, cause all the tracks give poser energy a bit, and they sound too much a like. If it had been by a lesser known band, it probably wouldn't be on there, cause it is not that special. But it shows promise and I didn't actively hate it
Yeah ok
Not my favorite Cure album, kind of boring comparatively
It was ok
mid, a few good songs. incredibly boring intro.
Pretty solid. Not my favorite by the cure but solid.
Liked it!
No es el disco que más me gusta de The Cure, pero me parece muy digno. A Forest y Seventeen Seconds son muy buenos temas.
6/10 - soft rock a la the cure, not bad
A very different album to their debut _Three Imaginary Boys_, moving quickly away from the post punk that dominated that release to a sound more typically associated with the band. I don’t feel they’ve perfected it yet though, these songs felt like they were going places that they didn’t quite get to but there was more than enough to keep it interesting
Loved this album!! I have never heard of the Go-Betweens but I really liked their music on this album.
I like this band, but I don’t know about this album.
Suitably moody for a wet January drive to work. Dark and brooding with some lush guitar sounds that I love the feel of. No catchy 'tunes' or lyrics but some lovely guitar rhythms that I was happy to soak up.
I let this play on loop for so long and it never stopped kinda sounding the same. It's not bad, it just kinda keeps droning on forever and ever, building towards something but never quite getting there. I guess that's the idea? I think I'd be disappointed with this record if I paid money for it, but I didn't and I'm not. "In Your House" "A Forest"
Feels very of it's time in a good way
I like it and maybe it's going to grow on me but i expected more of an impact. But maybe i just need to listen again!
I really like The Cure! it's not my favorite album, but it has some great songs
A Forest is amazing. It is the star of the album. The album is good, but they have better albums.
Primer album de The Cure que escucho, realmente el sonido se me hizo bueno muy caracteristico de ellos, pero se ponia mas interesante cuando tenian algo que decir y habia letra en la mayoria de la canción.
As an important work in the goth movement, Seventeen Seconds gives us a taste of what's to come. With sparce soundscapes and dark lyrics, The Cure deliver some compelling ideas while also dropping into some ho hum moments lacking in substance.
When I played the first song I thought to myself, "wtf is this," then I played a little more and the other songs grew on me. I feel like alternative music is really hit or miss and that's how I felt with this album. Every other song was good, but not amazing in my humble opinion. "Play for Today" and "M" were my favorites.
Some cool dark stuff on this album but not sure where the vocals where or why they were so low in some songs. Very very odd. Could've been better
This is by no means an essential cure album, I still had a good time with it though. It's clearly meant to be enjoyed on the dance floor of a goth club, rather than a focused listening experience.
I’m not an expert on the Cure - but it seems to me that The Forest is the only reason this album is on the list. The first half of the record is a band searching for their sound. The second half gets closer to what the general public would consider typical Cure sounding songs.
typical the cure album, mid as always
This is good! I have heard most of these songs before, my parents are a big fan. Some of the tracks are a bit forgettable but pretty solid
2.6
5.0/10
Sounds like The Cure
Plods along
je pensais que j’allais plus aimer ça considérant que les chansons de ce groupe que je connais je les aime vraiment. mais cet album feelait vide :( ♡: Play for Today, M
average album, it's ok but nothing special
Pas mal dans sa totalité, cohérent, facile a écouter en travaillant. J'ai liké Secrets et A forrest, mais le reste ne m'a pas particulièrement marqué. 6/10
Yet another album that I don't mind listening to, but if you played me one of the tracks tomorrow I probably wouldn't even realize that I have just heard it Standouts Seventeen Seconds 3/5
Great instrumentals severely dragged down by the vocals.
Give me poppy cure!
They have a distinctive sound, however I sometimes felt myself concentrating on aspects of 'that sound' (such the overly simplistic drum beats) rather than the music A couple of songs "In my house" and "M" made it to my liked list though = 3 star despite album only being 35mins long and containing a few fillers
Honestly, I really like it: less goofy, better grooves.
it seems ok, liked exactly five songs (half of the album), overall liked it Secrets was my fav
I was waiting for this. In the sense that it was only a matter of time before I was made to listen to a Cure album all the way through. It’s not that I don’t like the Cure . I like them at a distance. Robert Smith still wears lipstick and he’s quite old so his mouth looks like an old lady’s where the lipstick is sort of smeared and lost in the cracks of his skin. Anyways, nothing to do with this album. Let’s listen. This is actually more jammy than I thought it would be. I’m not sure if jammy is the word . There’s just music that hums along with no singing. Carrying the song on longer than expected. It works. This is less goth happy than I thought it would be. This didn’t impress me and it didn’t let me down. There really isn’t a standout track on this album. I guess that’s not a plus
A Forest the standout track. Worth 3.5 stars really.
typical the cure album, i'll probably go back and relisten sometimeeeee
Nice groove throughout but the songs drag a little. It’s a nice album to put on here and there, but I don’t see myself playlisting too many of these tracks.
It's a vibe! 3.5
I like this one it was nice to walk around in the dark to today. There’s a ska song on this album
Nothing note worthy
vibey chill music that isnt too boring
not for me
Not a bad listen. Need to be in the mood for vibes though. Nice for poker night with the guys in the background
Wasn't too bad.
Although I didn't listen to the entire album, I did like what I heard. In still more of a Depeche Mode girl though.
pretty good post punk i like the drum sound i just wish it wasn’t so damn depressing
Oh hey! A bunch or Cure songs I don't know that sound just like the ones I do know!
I mostly like the Cure for their singles and have never been really taken by an entire album. I liked the more obviously goth feel of this early record. There weren't enough songs that I came away in love with, so while I like the grey sky aesthetic, it's missing an ingredient for me.
Interesting early album from one of the top alt bands during the height of alt music, especially when you track the gloom evolve into … romanticism, I guess. The Cure were always strong with meshing atmospheric emotion into an articulable way. This is a fine album. Is it a necessary album? Probably not.
Some good instrumental cuts, but album didn’t do a lot for me
Feels like a demo album, it's all sort of basic and overly-same compared to their later works but it's also the Cure so it's a pretty cool demo album Full of aura and cool for a listen
Ziemlich auf Vibes ausgelegt, hervorstechen tut lediglich "A Forest". Insgesamt knapp an 4 Sternen vorbei.
perderam a oportunidade de deixar o album com 17 tracks FAVS (top 3): three, a florest, M menções honrosas: pray for today, secrets compraria o vinil: NAO nao vo mentir q a transição de the final sound pra a florest me assustou um pouco KKKKKKK acho q esse álbum é bem instrumental, é bom mas comecei esperando mais o.O nota final: 3/5
this album and Faith were such a vibe
Decent album - enjoyed
Not my cup of tea
This is remarkably spare. Has that characteristic gloomy, grim song, which I dig. It lacks the true drama and impact of a lot of their later work, but dug it all the same.
Hit and miss, some i added to my playlist and some I skipped.
Favourites: 1. Secrets 2. Play For Today 3. A Forest Least Favourite The Final Sound
Un poco desilusionada quede con el primer album que sale de the cure, soy bastante fan pero este no me lo habia escuchado. Se salvan algunas: A Forest, M, In Your House 3,5
Kind of eerie... A forest is great though
It's fun to hear their more instrumental early stuff in contrast to the 80s pop. I kinda like it more than their hits.
some good ol sadboi music. it feels like it ought to be exactly my thing but something about it fundamentally didn't grab me. favorite track is A Forest or At Night
Cool sound but too chill for me 6.1/10
Just felt a bit boring to me. 6 what are we curing out of 10 lizard wizards
Didn’t listen to the whole album but thought it was cool but not something I would listen to all the time at least not the whole album maybe just a couple songs. Great sound though.
Mid
A lot of 80s albums lately and all so different from each other. That decade gets a bad rap. This is another good one.
I’ve recently become a big Cure fan. Largely on the back of their last album Songs of a Lost World which I rate as one of the best albums over the last year. I’ve therefore gone back in their catalogue to search for more gems. I’ve found out therefore a difference between Cure Mk 1 and Cure Mk2. I’m able to relate to the latter version better than the first where this album fits in. It’s not a bad album by any stretch as I can hear a lot of what they were to become now. But we’re talking about The Cure here who have always been big and one of the best British talents from the last 50 years. So every album is a gem and their output is so vast that just about anyone can find something to love and I guess there are plenty who rate this album as their favourite. 3/5 19/12/25
The album sounds nice, but the songs are just that, ok. Nothing too exciting, nothing remarkable.
Enjoyed it
I love the cure. However the opening song sounds like something you could make in GCSE music. The second doesn’t get much better, boring bass line. Not my fav
nice sounds definitely like how it feels like in listening to nature come alive in a frankenstein’s monster kinda way
I'm not sure I'm cool enough for this album 2-3
this record feels very uneventful. also not a huge fan of the minute long intros for each song. this would be a good album to put on in the background. M is my favorite song off the record. still a good record, but not my favorite from them.
Would doom again
Bit empty - other than Forest !!!! Not their best
3.5. Surprised - I don’t recall them being that chill. Enjoyed and then really enjoyed the music that came after that from Spotify. It’s always interesting to see which music gets spawned by an album.
Easy listening, probably good study music. But it doesn’t really go anywhere. Maybe a 3.5, round to 3 for having a song titled “17 seconds” that lasts for 4 minutes.
Not my favorite stuff by the Cure, but not bad either.
Appreciate this album more than I like it, but it has its moments & scratches the goth itch like nobody’s business.
How long did I need to give this one a review?
I had high expectations that, sadly, were not met
3.5 - I wanted to give it 4 stars so badly but it’s mood music. But very, very good mood music. Very relaxing. Recommend before bed.
Best Track - "A Forest"
Enjoyed it but not very dynamic
Ça m'a donné l'impression d'un band fatigué qui rentre en studio avec rien de prêt. Et c'était quand même bon.
This had alright vibes. It was fine to have playing in the background, but nothing really stood out.
3/5 I’m sure for the time it was unique and impressive but I’ve heard too much of gothic rock done way better so it was kinda underwhelming for me.
The Cure always has moments in songs that seem like they are just learning their instruments. Intrepid yet timid. Always been a fan. Not my favorite album, but the melancholy is sweet.
👍
Solid album.
Nice haunting music but definitely prefer their later stuff
Trend setter band, but not my cup of tea.
It’d be a 3 1/2 typical 80s nothing really special
doesn’t stand out at all for them but not bad
Interesting album, solid music. 5.1/10
Eh. Not for me for every day listening. Good for Halloween party back ground music
Some moody jangle pop, interesting early example of a drum machine on the last track. I heard elements of this in "Disintegration" which is cool how far they've come. (3-3.5)
I've never listened to this album (58). Pretty forgettable for me, but I guess it was influential.
Better than some of the other rubbish albums on this list
Synes egentlig disse er helt ålreite, men savner litt vokal.
A smoother sound then a lot of their contemporaries. But nothing on this album really stood out for me.
It was OK.
An ok cure album - A forest came on my algorithm last week and I loved the intro. Got kinda meh with the singing. Repetitive musically in the last couple tracks. 3* Highlights: a forest
Interesting album, halfway between the popiness and darkness of some of The Cure's other albums, but never quite reaching the heights of either on a first listen. Could be a grower for sure.
Great album to start listening to darker rock. A must-have.
Not much stood out to me here.
I've listened to this album multiple times, hoping that at some point it might catch my attention. I like The Cure, and I can tell this album is special for its experimentation and punk style. I just can't get into it, it doesn't draw me in.
I like a lot of The Cure's songs, and spent a lot of time last year listening to Songs Of A Lost World. This early album had a far sparser feel to it. The instrumentals A Reflection and The Final Sound set an unsettling tone that carries on in songs like Secrets and At Night. Stand out track is A Forest. The Cure went on to bigger things and I prefer that more expansive sound, but this was decent work.
This one makes me very curious the criteria used to make the list. Here we have a band with a bunch of incredible albums, and today we are offered on of their very mediocre titles. Why? Maybe The Cure have several on the list, and it will all make sense in the end. I admit, it sounded pretty good on headphones.
Was strangely hesitant to review this. Needed to listen to it about 8 times to make up my mind. After all that, decided it’s a good ol’ three (3) star
This album is more of a mood than songs I would listen to on their own. A Forest is a classic and I think Play for Today and Seventeen Seconds are both very strong on their own though. 7/10
Not the greatest Cure album but definitely an important one. There are some great tunes on here, the pre-cursors to some of the best albums of the 80s.
Minimalist. It's not for everyone
I was kinda locked into something else and this just faded into background ambience.
Not the album I would have picked but I’m sure Distintegration or Head On the Door will appear on this list before I’m done.
I assume there will be other Cure albums, but this one felt kinda filler-y to me.
Is the list trying to bum me out on a Friday morning, or subliminally suggesting I should stop and buy red lipstick on my way home?
Good
I love half of this and loath the other half. When there are actual songs with lyrics and music im so down. But then there are these droning ambient peices that make my eyes glaze over. I just cant get into things like that. I need the structure of verse chorus verse bridge chorus ect. And when its just long notes for 10 minutes I cant stay focused on it. But the songs I like are really damn good. I saved like 5 of them suckers. But you couldnt pay me to listen to the other parts. Its interesting to see where the cure in its infancy but other records are much better. Some songs are worth it though.
It was okay. I oddly like the new Cure album more.
Well made and mixed for the most part. Never really listened to the Cure but it's like David Bowie's little brother was like hey I can do this too
Yawn. A few good tracks
huh so a second album by The Cure this week… I heard Pornography for the first time this week and loved it! However this one seems a bit under cooked to me but it is interesting how they progressed from this to the aforementioned album. This album still has a very uniquely melancholy sound to it though and the sparse and dry production reveals the starkness of the songs as well as the distinct voice of Robert Smith. A good album and perhaps I’ll learn to love it more upon further spins but for now I would say that I only need one Cure album on this list and that would be Pornography.
IT was OK. Not amazing, but OK.
First (actual) song is cool but the rest of the album is a little too one-note for me. I get what the Cure is going for but it just felt the same by the end. At least it was short.
It might just be the mix that I'm listening to but I couldn't hear any singing for the first like five tracks, so much so that I thought the cord connecting my phone to the car was broken. haha. So I'm gonna call this one a mulligan.
Liked it but nothing grabbed me like other the cure albums ive had.
bom
album starts very mid. kind of evolves into something a bit more what I was expecting from the cure by the second half and honestly saved it from a 1-2 score.
Quite liked most of the tracks, but the singer's voice almost ruins the majority of them for me.
Not their best work but the cure is alwsys worth listening yo.
Why didn't I know The Cure sounded SO new wave-y?
Nothing that really stood out, but a decent album. 3 stars or C+.
I listened to this album multiple times and I don't think any particular song jumped out at me on any particular listen, but, idk, it was pleasant to have on while working?
I like how cohesive this album seemed. The sound from top to bottom had movement and felt like it knew where it was going. This seems fairly typical of sophomore albums, but I think this one was pretty good. Maybe more of a 3.5 in reality.
It's The Cure! This album is fine, it has some strong tracks and a lot of tracks that sort of slid off my brain. Not gonna be sorry if any of these show up in a Cure shuffle, but wouldn't seek them out either. The cover is also a bit forgettable but well composed, it's a 3/5 as well.
I can see why it’s here. Feels like the 80s, but also hints of at least what’s modern. Didn’t enjoy it too much though.
i wish i liked it more. there are some cool moments on here that i could see myself really getting into over time. there are also lots of moments of dissonance that i don't think works well for me and that is not very fun to listen to. very subdued and dour album and i can see why people enjoy listening to it, but i think it's not really for me.
I assume it is spotify, but this album sounds terrible in a way I don't think its supposed to. Flat and muddy mix. I'll have to seek out a better source. Much better Cure out there. 3 Heard before? Some Owned: No 20/1001, 20/80 (25%) Will I get? No
This is fine; like a warmup or cooldown for Disintegration which is a genuinely good album.
It is much more experimental than other Cure albums. I liked it enough but don’t love it
Bra cure-action av vibes, men når inte hela vägen som musik.
Chillbra.
Rock gotic, muzica new wave. Excelent de fundal
Good, they have better
Wow. No nie en richtige Touchpoint gha mit «The Cure» usserd «Boys don't cry». So viel Instrumentals und biz weird production choices uf «The Final Sound» wo aber so d halbziit vom album signalisiert – like that. Sehr ziitlos, hetti überall ide letschte 30-40 johr chöne usecho. Ghörsh halt de Influence uf 2010s Indie Pop-Rock so krass use.
The cure are wonderful and sad and sprawling and epic. I do tend towards the sweet relief of their slightly poppier, happier stuff, but no one can deny its quality.
The more I listened to it the more I liked it. Added to library: Secrets In Your House Three A Forest M At Night
Didn't hate it, didn't love it
I enjoyed the album, but the cure was never quite the top of my list of bands. I'm not sure I get all the raving about it but I definitely don't mind them, just nothing that stands out to me, and this album is much the same.
I really enjoy the moody, dark music The Cure creates. I just really dislike the whiney voice of the lead vocal. I never could listen to them for very long, although their music is right up my alley. Now I discovered that they have a number of instrumental tracks, which I really enjoy. But I don't want to listen to their whole albums. 3/5
Sparse arrangements. Tight, competent, playing. It's an album that's marred by irritating and unnecessary audio tricks. The 'dustbin lid banging' effect on 'Play for Today' that shifts from the left channel to the right and back again through much of the song is an example. Perhaps those are more apparent when listening on headphones. 3/5 but a low 3. Not offensive but I wouldn't choose to listen to it again.
A decent effort, but their best albums are definitely still to come. If Disintegration doesn't make the 1001 albums list, I want no part in it.
6/10
Not sure im fully on board with the Cure
Not a big fan of The Cure. The Forest reminds me of driving round in my friends car 'Snowball' back in the day, so enjoyed that one!
Gostei. Acho que não conhecia nenhuma das músicas. Tem umas qie parece Legião (na verdade Legião que parece eles). Tiago: não é o melhor do The Cure, mas valeu a experiência.
Very solid. Nothing too memorable, but definitely finding their sound.
It was alright. Kinda chill & spacious sounding. Not as stand out as their other work.
A Forest is just a bop, I had it on a greatest hits album when I was a teenager so I'll always enjoy that. It doesn't really have too many other standout tracks on there but as a whole album it is ok. Maybe that is the issue I'm having in some of these albums, that I had the greatest hits spanning multiple decades and so I don't maybe have the patience to actively listen to the full albums. I will listen a few more times but I am ambivalent about the rating.
Estuvo bonito como música de fondo (creo)
It was nice however it hardly ever caught my attention
Not one of their best, but still a classic.
I really like The Cure from Faith and Pornography onwards. Seventeen Seconds is a bit bland, missing all the later tragedy, lamentation, darkness and despair and although this may have sounded like the band being on the edge, these feelings are so hard and moving.
Why this cure album? I’m early in this process so I’m assuming there are others but always felt this was on the weaker end of their 80s output.
I like Smith's voice and I find it impressive that this album doesn't sound dated, the way many other ~1980'ish albums do. But the songs themselves are just OK.
For a 35 minute album, the songs really do drag on a bit. And I'm saying this as a Bowie fan who loves Loving the Alien, Modern Love and the full length version of Ashes to Ashes.
This album is the first step in transmogrifying the jumpy new wave punk-y music of the band's debut, into the gloomy goth rock to come. There is nothing here that reaches the heights of the back half of the 1980s, but it strikes a mood. Some songs feel just out of reach, like when you can't quite grab something in a dream. Lyrics evoke people in their room at night, in a dark forest, whispering, telling secrets. Classic Robert Smith stuff!
Interesting album. Never listened to The Cure outside of some hits (Friday, I'm in Love), and what an interesting contrast. This album is very minimalist and dark. Not a whole lot of singing and the tracks are so eerie. A couple of tracks with lyrics that had to have been singles, but they really stand out in an album of creepy dark ominous tones. I respect it as it's pretty unique, but it's a bit difficult to casually listen to outside of the singles.
I do like how this album sounds. It's hard for me to listen to The Cure, because I wasn't exposed to, nor did I "venture out" to, this style of music until nearly 25 years old. So I know of The Cure, but I know nothing about them other than a perception of their sound based on other people who listen to them, or other bands who count them as inspiration. I won't say I love this style of music, by any means. This album does however meet my expectation of what a Cure album sounds like. But that's also hard to escape... so I enjoy it but it doesn't excite me or really entice any sonic sensibilities of mine. A perfect 2.5, so I'll go with 3 because I think I should like them.
I really like The Cure, but I did not know any songs on this album. I did not think any of the songs were particularly good. I like Robert Smith’s voice though.
No private session used for Spotify. I don't know if I ever sat through a The Cure album though I like a lot of their songs. This album doesn't have a lot of the songs that got played, and hey still get played(and deservedly so), but its still good.
I'm not sure what to say about this album. It's very slow and sad sounding, but it doesn't really feel like a drag. It's good but I probably won't listen to it again.
This is a great album with a nice groove throughout. Moody but not as moody as I thought it would be. That might be because i wasnt quite paying attention to the lyrics. Overall I enjoyed it. 3.5
Yeh was ok. The cure are better than this album but its an early one so I assume it made a big impact when it came out hence why its in the list. A Forest is excellent
Sort of what I expected from similar albums in the era. Non offensive. Pretty chill. I thought the second half of the album was stronger, but nothing really stood out as a strong wow moment for me.
The atmosphere of this album was great, and it drew me in immediately with the opening track. Unfortunately the vocals felt very drowned out and quiet, and I thought the middle of the album wasn’t as good as the strong finish.
3.4/5 dark spacey stuff some good riffs mostly repetitive songs
Yoyoyoy Straight outa holiday. Neduzen wiedermal baaack. Das album bim autocruise chöne inedue, schönsti strecki über küstefelse wowzers. The cure eher schüch und moderat inecho, chli wenig pfupf. Aso nur 3 felsformatione vum lil felso
Pretty wild how lofi yet synth this is
Definitely a very melancholy album. Not his most popular one, but worth a listen.
ok, very much sounds of the time it came from
Pretty ok. They have a couple albums i like a lot better
Imagine if The Cure actually released an album that only went for seventeen seconds… This album was okay, but a bit depressing and samey at times. The Cure have done much better.
My second The Cure album on this list and way better than the other one. 'A Forest' is an amazing song. Still dont love The Cure though.
Never been ‘dark’ enough to listen at length to Goth music, whether the cure claim to be goth or not this album sure quacks like the proverbial duck, but that said this wasn’t half bad. They do nail that atmosphere and find myself getting darker by the minute with an urge to find an all black wardrobe and go heavy on the eyeliner. This is good, not my thing but a good listen and kind of get why they have a dedicated following. 3 Star
“Three” cooks but the rest was bland
Fine.
Half of the album sounded quite uninspired and boring, like an interlude. But there were also some nice songs on it, which i liked.
I liked this more than I thought I would. I'm not super familiar with The Cure outside of their hits and this moody, minimalist album kinda hooked me and made me want to explore their other music from the late 70's early 80's.
When someone says “The Cure” the song “A Forest” is exactly what pops in my head. Now I can say I’ve actually listened to the full album. Dark, spooky, and moody. A perfect October album…even though it’s not October yet.
Certainly occurred.
Un peu gloomy/doomer à mon goût, et rien qui stand out énormément. Pas directement dérangeant, mais pas wow non plus. Du son dans mes oreilles.
Not for me, but not bad.
Eka The Curen levy, joka tuli kuunneltua alusta loppuun. Ei sykäyttänyt, mutta oli ihan hyvä. 2,75/5.
Very enjoyable. The Forest is a total classic. Rest a bit smart but very enjoyable.
Just an average Cure album, nothing to write home about
First time listening to The Cure and they definitely have a certain vibe going. Not sure if they caught me in the right mood but I dug it.
2.5
3.5 rounded down, enjoyed it but not a standout
This was a good album. Not my favorite The Cure album. But will maybe listen to it again. 7/10
