Reviews (page 12 of 13)

Not bad, but definitely not my kind of music.

Weird mismatch of genres

Not my favorite of his solo albums. There are a few good songs but I think this album is him trying to figure it out. Not much really stood out and wasn't really enjoyable.

It's Paul Simon!

I was gonna say, It kinda reminds me of Simon and Garfunkel... and then I looked up Paul Simon. He was not sobre when he wrote "Everything Put Together Falls Apart". Or maybe he just didn't want to be. He sure do be rambli'n. 2,5/5

Look, I’ll respect Paul Simon for his place in the history of American Music. But that doesn’t mean I have to enjoy listening to him.

Very familiar even though I’ve only heard a couple of these tracks before. Not sure if it would have an impact today. Was not expecting the John Denver track at the end - was that on the album?

Snoozefest.

Only decent song on here was Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard, and even that is pretty overrated in my opinion. I guess there’s no art without Garfunkel

Je me suis fait chier, deso polo

Trop lisse et pas asser marquant.

In general, I really can't stand the "storyteller with an acoustic guitar" genre. Paul Simon is no exception. Bores me to tears. Opening up with the whitest reggae imaginable at least gave me a good laugh. One point because Julio is a damn good song... album could've just been a single.

garfunkle was the talent

Wasn't my fav lowkey

boh va beh, almeno va in fretta

I enjoyed this album a bit, but tbh, most of the songs are pretty mid

2/5, background music nothing special. Not my genre

Decent album

Also no sauce.

An OK, meh, album. Of course Me and Julio is a bop but most of the other tracks are entirely forgettable. I get why Hearts & Bones and Graceland are on this list, but this album is certainly one too many. 2/5

Paul Simon continues to baffle me. Why is a song set in New England accompanied by Peruvian flutes. Lots of Incan Pentecostals? Also the Red Wings were notoriously shitty when this album was written so like. Hell of a hockey team? Buddy.

Could only make it through a couple of songs. It was non offensive, I could have died not hearing this album and would have had a satisfied mind.

I have no patience for Paul Simon. His music is always too cute by half. Very well played, but it always comes across for me as smug and happy with itself. I find it boring and obnoxious mostly.

Ah, white reggae. The music no one ever needed. This first song is already an inauspicious start to the record. The rest of the songs are pretty bland vanilla jams. Would not revisit, even though I listened to the whole album. Thus it would garner a 1.5 properly. Better than Kid Rock, so I guess it gets a 2.

let me do half stars please good album for the morning! not my cup of tea though

I've never been a huge fan of Simon &/or Garfunkel and this album is no different. Paul's a pretty good songwriter but his voice and delivery are not enjoyable to listen to. Even a song like "Me and Julio down by the Schoolyard" is hard to listen to because of his voice. But if you can get past that it's an ok album I suppose 5/10 Favourite: Armistice Day Least Favourite: Mother and Child Reunion

Proper campfire music.

Meh... It starts extremely promising, but then just feels like something I really need to be in the right mood for. So, on a different day, this might get a different score... but for today it's meh

2 - I don’t get the Paul Simon on this one, seems unfinished and pointlessly simple—to the point where any added production improves a track by so much (think: me and Julio down by the schoolyard)

Pleasant enough but not to my taste.

Paul Simon - Paul Simon Decent chill folk type album coming from someone who was in an iconic band from the 60's. There's really not much here to it other than how nice it feels to listen to it at times, it is incredibly calm to listen but it becomes a flaw, since that sound is consistent and there really isn't much to offer, but it's not bad. Overall though, this is fine. 1.- Mother and Child Reunion = 6/10 2.- Duncan = 6/10 3.- Everything Put Together Falls Apart = 5/10 4.- Run That Body Down = 7/10 5.- Armistice Day = 7/10 6.- Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard = 7/10 7.- Peace Like a River = 6/10 8.- Papa Hobo = 6/10 9.- Hobo's Blues = 5/10 10.- Paranoia Blues = 4/10 11.- Congratulations = 8/10 FINAL SCORE: 6.1/10

Just not my kind of music, kinda boring to me

1. Mother and Child Reunion 2. Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard 3. Duncan 4. Hobo's Blues 5. Paranoia Blues 6. Peace Like a River 7. Papa Hobo 8. Armistice Day 9. Run That Body Down 10. Everybody Put Together Falls Apart 11. Congratulations

Not bad, just boring.

Kort geleden kregen we Heart and Bones van Paul.

Thought I'd enjoy this more but it's not doing much for me, Mother and Child Reunion and Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard are still decent though. Can't be giving it more than 2 sadly

LOVE S&G together, solo album just doesn't do it for me sadly

It's nice but I felt little connection to it

If the super bowl hangover wasn't putting me to sleep, this finished the job.

Not much to say really. Washed over me.

Was expecting much more from Paul Simon here. Unfortunately found it to be dull and uninspiring. Stand out track was, Julio down by the school yard. Surprising this album actually makes the cut. Disappointing 2 stars.

Some great acoustic guitar work but a bit too slow and relaxed for me. I just can't see myself ever wanting to listen to this again. Me and Julio Down By the Schoolyard is great though.

This did nothing for me, other than working as background music. On positive note, Me and Julio is a great song though

I liked the music, not the lyrics.

During Armistice Day, I thought he sang "Oh, i'm weary from waiting in Washington D.C., I'm coming to see my congressman, but he's a boy to me" and I thought WOAH an interesting lyric?? Then I looked it up and the line was "but he's avoiding me" and that's when i realized this album is poop

Me and Julio and some other songs.

Fine. It was fine.

Very folksy and chill. Banjos and shit. 2 tracks in though and it's apparent the lyrics are dogshit. Boring story telling. It's actually starting to piss me off how dogshit the lyrics are. I'm assuming the problem is he was too young to have lived much of a life or done anything interesting.

Surely nice, but not my kind of music.

Sorry to the Paul Simon fans, but every track is either boring or a bit cringey

Blah blah boring blah, but respect anyway...

Nojoo rillutirallati.

Not my cup of tea, 2.5

I thought it was good but I'm pretty easily excited by albums that sound cute and lively like that. In hindsight, the lyrics weren't incredible and none of the songs were super memorable for me.

No complaints, but didn't really speak to me either. Paul Simon is a very good songwriter that seems to be known for everything save putting his heart in what he does, despite making beautiful music. At least that's how he comes off to me. I remember listening to Graceland when I was 13 or 14 because my mom bought me an issue of NME or Spin or one of those magazines that wrote a retrospective on it, and being thoroughly confused by what the big deal was. Being older hasn't really changed that feeling, I guess.

This felt disjointed, and still quite bland. I think Paul was trying too hard to pretend he was not trying. He should have saved his energy, and skipped making this.

It was okay

Gear: Moondrop Variations Artwork: 😐🧥🐻 Production: 🎧😐🆗 Music: 🎤🎶🌍🌳✨🥱 Rating: 🌳🌳/5

Thank goodness for Julio hanging out by the schoolyard. Without him this album would be a stone cold one star event.

I made it a few songs in and it’s what I expected. Music for old white men to pay their bills to

Bit boring for my taste.

What an opener! Only for the vibe to drop for next five songs :( Me and Julio… was another false dawn. The man can really write a song, but for me some of these just dragged

Good album - talent of PS coming through in every track. Enjoyed the listen, some great easy listening.

I don't think I like Paul Simon. His voice is kind of annoying. 2 Stars for Mother and Child reunion, which is about a chicken and egg dish called 'Mother and Child Reunion'.

Mostly found this boring, I'm afraid.

Mmm yes folk singer songwriter yes please Nnn

Okay, but not like his later, more intriguing stuff, or the earlier, awesome Simon and Garfunkel songs.

First song was quite good reggae, second song had a good instrumental. The rest was rubbish

surely the next album on the list that I listen to won't sound the same as the last 500

Not for me

No me gusta el folk

Sure enjoyed these hits when I was young. Listening now trying to hear past nostalgia, it is more interesting than I knew, and less so too. When good, it is infectious, and when weak it feels unfinished, oddly incomplete. Punchy and weak.

yeah, ok, this is fine. a couple of songs are great. but this really doesn't need to be on the list.

Other than Me and Julio I find this album bo-ring

Albumi #48, 14.09.2024 Paul Simonin toinen sooloalbumi Simon & Garfunkelin jälkeen. Verrattuna S & G:n koko tuotantoon ja Paul Simonin joihinkin muihin soolotuotantoihin jää tämä kakkosalbumi mielestäni perin tylsäksi. Melko ruisleivälle maistuvaa perus-folkkia josta puuttuu rutkasti särmää. Pieniä kohokohtia levyltä toki löytyy. Erityismaininnan saa kappaleet "Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard" sekä "Paranoia Blues".

I was familiar with Paul Simon, but I had never listened to one of his albums before. This was my first experience, and unfortunately, it didn’t impress me much. I found the album to be mediocre. However, I did enjoy the tracks “Duncan” and “Run That Body Down.”

I think I’m discovering that I’m not that big of a Paul Simon guy. A couple of good songs, but mostly just banal pop music. 2.5/5

Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard ist ein bekannter Klassiker, der Rest ist auch ganz gut. aber insgesamt hab ich mich durchgeqält

A fine album if you like boring music.

It's alright, some nice vibes, nothing special though

I just don't like Paul Simon.

Paul Simon. Handwerklich gut. Mir immer etwas zu langweilig. - was tatsächlich an seinem Gesang liegen könnte …

Meh. Too folksie for me.

Either boring or annoying. Lack of originality.

2 hits that played constantly when I was young, but the rest of the album, while introspective the songs were melancholy and wouldn’t drive me back for another listen

I don't think I really registered any part of that. It was background noise. Admittedly, it was a weird day. I'm getting the feeling that Paul Simon is over-represented on this list. Is Graceland on here? This and Zep 2 make me think that the author felt like they "had to" put some of the big names on here multiple times, and that anybody on classic rock radio playlists gets bonus points. But I also get that I'm rating good and culturally important albums, so one star is the worst of the best. Two stars.

-pleasant calming indie-reggae -country music also -interesting beats best song: ‘run that body down’ -bit boring -farmer music?? kinda 👩‍🌾 -would not revisit

My mum's car music. No thanks

For some reason, Paul Simon just doesn't do it for me. This album is further proof. It isn't terrible, but it is unremarkable and bland. I get some people like it but this isn't for me.

An ok album

Simon & Garfunkel together were better.. this was ok, relaxing generally.

Just OK.

Correcto.

Has a few solid tunes otherwise a bit boring at times.

This is an album of folky singer-songwriter material. It's OK, but really pretty far from my taste. I don't really see that it's an exceptional or great album.

its 5/10 its alright

Kinda forgettable

I would have been fine without listening to this.

Famous for wearing bow ties and horn-rimmed glasses, Paul Simon was a two-term U.S. Senator from Illinois (1985-1997), and a candidate for the Democratic Party nomination for the 1988 United States presidential election. After leaving public office, Paul Simon was passionate about creating a place to research and provide constructive public policy resources, encourage others to take part in conversations on the issues of our time, and support the next generation of public leaders. Oh, sorry, wrong Paul Simon. Meh, this album was ok. I’m not a huge fan of the singer/songwriter genre.

I am not denying Simon’s talent as a songwriter, but something did not click for me. I think his boyish voice needs more instrumental backing to work.

Good. Didn't compel me to keep listening.

I’m not sure. This one isn’t doing much for me… relaxing album. But I can’t really distinguish the songs from one another they’re all blending together and not really standing out. “Peace like a river” is a fave and I can see that was likely and influence on lots of those early 00s folksy singers like sufjan.

Perfectly inoffensive. Interesting? Not really. Memorable melodies? Nah. Going for the album though is outstanding production, every instrument sounds pristine as do the vocals. A lot of care went in to that as it also did into the thoughtfully performed accompaniments. Unfortunately, the songwriting just isn’t very good.

Not super excited by this. Obviously a couple of hits but nothing that really stuck with me.

Couple good songs, some good music but not the best album as a whole

Paul Simon is a legendary singer and songwriter. While this album features a broad assortment of musical styles, it is mostly just lengthy folk. Fairly easy to listen to yet somewhat stale.

I think I like Garfunkel better

Some fancy guitar playing

Couple of decent songs.

2/5. Folk lives and dies by the stories the artist is trying to tell. Outside Me and Julio the stories just weren't doing it for me.

I think this was just really not my style. I don’t mind his song when he’s in a duo with Garfunkel but alone idk there’s something that bothers me. Objectively, it’s not bad music but it just wasn’t for my taste.

Lot of nostalgia for this artist, but with the cringe reggae at the start tainting an okay album I realised Paul Simon kinda sounds like diet Bob Dylan. And I hate Dylan

I finished the album about a half ago and already forgot pretty much everything that I just listened to. Perfectly pleasant while it's on, but after that, not really a whole lot worth remembering

I forgot I even had it on when I was listening. I know it’s a classic artist, and I appreciate his artistry but I could live without.

Vibey, not my go-to but good for the background. 2,5/5

the whole time i listened i was like i should feel higher on paul simon but here we are could i write poetry to this? n

Probalby revolutionary Folk Rock back then, but nowadays quite boring.

Not relay my music

Boring. Listens: 2 Fave Track: Me And Julio Down By The Schoolyard Rating: 2

It’s ok just not for me

I’m kinda meh about this. Like, some nice guitar sounds, peace like a river is nice. 2/5

I wasn’t particularly moved by it. Me & Julio is the standout track. I understand it’s a classic but it’s just not my cup of tea

chill hippie music. 2.5/5

Weak sauce.

Found this really boring musically

Solid but nothing special, good chill music. Doesn't have you can call me Al so could be better

dritkjedelig

Good lyrics, but this was a bit too straightforwardly folky for me.

39 Based on this scale: 1 - 0 to 19 2 - 20 to 39 3 - 40 to 59 4 - 60 to 79 5 - 80 to 100 The album is good at what it does, but what it does isn't exciting to me. Some okay bits, especially the slightly bluesier songs near the end.

not my style...!

Enjoyed it, didn’t love it. I loved Simon & Garfunkel as a young kid, his voice made me nostalgic for those albums.

Rambling nonsense

Doesn’t really feel any different than any other rock/folk singer-songwriter artists

Two good songs. Ten more i won’t miss if i never hear them again

Not bad, just boring.

Paul Simon Zeer rustig, folk achtig album. Beetje saai. Favorieten: Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard, Hobo's Blues

Paul Simon is Paul Simon. Sort of steadfast and never-changing since this early album. He seems like an old friend here and that's the part I like. When he does what I call his caricature songs, I like those the least. Those are the ones with the lyrics like, "Hello my name is Samantha and I'm 15 years old in the Bronx...My mother never buys me garbanzos".

it's fine. safe, generic, pop, and it's fine. perhaps in its day it was more revolutionary, but it offers very little to modern audiences.

Paul Simon - Paul Simon 1972 Mother and Child Reunion - REGGAE VIBES Duncan - good song, nice recorder/flute; RenFair vibes Everything Put Together Falls Apart - slow, relaxed, Run that Body Down - boring; down Paul Simon vibes Armistice Day - nice raw song. Clean guitar recording Me and Julio down by the schoolyard - classic tune, A+ Peace like a river - forgetable papa hobo - pleasant song; Hobo's blues - zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Paranoia blues - zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, until the saxaphone. Congratulations - okay song. Nothing worth adding to my Apple Music Library and I consider myself a Paul Simon fan.

Catstevens Vibes ohne feelings, country? Roadsongs Amerikastyle

I can see why this is on the list. It's his turning point and presages the direction he later adopted. His rep as a poet was buried on this album. I don't think he played to what he was best at.

Everything by Simon and/or Garfunkel I've heard, except for Graceland, is just dull dull dull

Boring

2/5. It’s a shame that I have to give this album a low rating; It is simply not my style of music. I’m sure plenty of audiophiles would love this soft, melodic journey through Paul Simon’s first record after going solo, but it just didn’t do it for me. Highlight song for me was “Armistice Day”

Not my vibe, simply put.

Listening to what Simon says is a subjective chore for me, even if he’s objectively good at what he does.

It wasn't totally horrid, just a bit dull. 2 stars as it was inoffensive, no more than 2 stars because it just didn't do much for me. I kind of liked Duncan as the one stand out track I guess.

A little better than Heart & Bones but I am bored again but a little less

I did feel like I can hear Paul Simon as an influence on albums coming out today. It was also a weird experience not knowing the songs but having certainly heard them all before. I generally like the album artwork as well. It does contain one particular song that outshines all of the rest.

2/5 Best: Me and Julio Down By the Schoolyard Worst: Paranoia Blues

Not too exciting music

I knew a couple of the songs. It got really folksy and I did not care for it. No need to revisit.

Eh. I didn't really dislike any particular song on this album but I didn't really like any of them either. Felt like mediocre background music.

I prefer S&G, but the real issue is all I can think about when listening is how many Boomers who were probably cool suck now.

Klassiker, schönes Album

Also appreciate the music for the times but a little to light and slow for me, more Buzzy style

Not awful but… yawn

Never been a fan of Simon. I'm still not. It's just... Nothing.

I was going to listen and rate 2 albums today, but after listening to Simon, couldn't stomach following this up with the Beatles. 2 things/songs stood out to me. Papa Hobo referencing Detroit, specifically, "Detroit, Detroit gotta a hell of a hockey team." Maybe not now, but certainly the 90's into the early 2000's. But then he refers Detroit as a basketball town. Nope, it's Hockeytown, but then again, this album came out before he knew better. The song Me and Julio down by the River. I think his mom chewed tobacco if she's spitting every time she hers his name. Wonder what brand she chews. I'm guessing Redman. That's all I got..... Not a fan. But since I wrote this much, I'll give a 2. Now on to the Beatles, damnit.

2 Last time we had a Paul Simon album I wasn’t particularly impressed. I liked the poppy African styles but it didn’t do much to set itself apart. This album is no different. There is just nothing here for me to grasp on to. Basic lyrics, basic guitar and instrumentation in general really make this feel like a slog. There seem to be halfhearted attempts to branch out to different genres but they all feel so shallow and in distinct. As with Graceland I feel like the lyrics were written before the music and there was no attempt to match Rhythm or pace. I really only liked the bluesy songs. I can take or leave all others. Favorites: Peace Like a River, Paranoia Blues

2 I talked about this a bit before in my Graceland review, but while I really enjoy Simon & Garfunkel, I’ve never been able to get much into Paul Simon’s solo career. While I can respect Graceland for experimenting with songwriting and sound, this just feels like a poppier version of his existing folk career… and is just worse in every way. Mother and Child Reunion I found to be a particularly annoying opener, and I really couldn’t tell you what the song is about if I tried since 75% of the song is the line “The mother and child reunion is only a motion away”. Duncan and Everything Put Together Falls Apart felt like a nice return to form, but then from there the album devolves into track after track of overproduced folk pop, to the point I was pretty bored by the end. Favorite songs: Duncan, Everything Put Together Falls Apart, Armistice Day

I don't know what this album is supposed to be. An odd collection of short, all over the place acoustic genre songs.

Fantastic instrumentals, incredibly weak lyrics.

Heard it before?: No Enjoy it?: yeah? As in it’s not awful. Just a bit meh and not exciting for me personally Favourite song: Track 4 - Run That Body Down

mehmeh

T3B 1. Mother And Child Reunion 2. Run That Body Down 3. Me And Julio Down By The Schoolyard

Seemed to have lost notes

I wasn't really in the right frame of mind to focus on the lyrics. I quite liked the different musical styles - a little slide guitar and even some cod reggae. But nothing really stood out for me.

I was excited as I knew to songs from the album, but had never listened to the whole album. Have to say a bit disappointing as those two songs are the stand outs.

I wanted to like this, but it's just not my genre. Folky, singer songwriter guitar stuff really has to wow me to hook me.

An ok album a little more upbeat and reggae than I expected (particularly on Mother and Child Reunion). I expected it to be a lot more 'folksy' than it was. As it was Simon's first solo album it probably felt good to experiment with what he wanted to do rather than to also be tied to Garfunkel's whims. Best: Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard Worst: Hobo's Blues

I like a lot of Paul Simon's music in all his phases, and I was already familiar with a few tracks from this album. I gave it a listen and found it...okay. I can hear his ridiculous talent for songwriting, singing, and guitar throughout, but stylistically, these songs overall just don't grab me like some of his other work. My hunch is I've heard so much early-70s-folksy music that this kind of blurs into that background. Not at all a bad album; just not one I plan to come back to.

Did not care for this one, music was fine.

Chill music. Wasn’t drawn in

Hatte mich seinerzeit nicht interessiert. Zu soft. "Mother and Child Reunion" und "Me and Julio down by the schoolyard" sind mir bekannt alle andern nicht. Kein Titel findet in die Playlist. Note 4

Just a bunch of pleasant, unremarkable songs. Bring back Garfunkel!

Real rating 2.5

Vähän jopa ärsyttävä levy. Välillä letkeää menoa ja sitten taas mehhh...

Semmone. Sunnuntaidarralevy.

I guess he was the first "cute girl winter" with the fur hoodie. That might be the only interesting thing about this album as well. I didn't hate it, the album is kind of up beat and folksy but nothing stood out except for the album cover.

2/5 nope

zzzzzzzzzzz

Vond het wat saai en eenvoudig

Just listened to a Simon and Garfunkel album this week, and that was pretty good. So I assume this will be too. Never mind. This was pretty bad.

Great voice. Dull album

Listening conditions - home theatre, pretty distracted. Albums First Rodeo? - Yep, but listened to Paul Simon before. Stand out tracks Armistice Day - yeah here we go this is good. Like the blues vibe here. Me and Julio Down By The Schoolyard - This is fun! Not much here, a few decent tracks that would no doubt make up a pretty solid greatest hits complication.

Saved Prior: None Off Rip: Mother and Child Reunion, Hobo's Blues Cutting Edge: None Overall Notes: Versatile but never really gets all the way there for me. 2.5 rounded down.

Idk about this, like it was fine but also completely forgettable.

Bit lightweight. He's done better.

My comments are similar to those I made for James Taylor. This is a bit soft for me. The lyrics are personal, and too literal, especially in songs like Run that Body Down, which sounds like a self-help anthem. There’s no edge, no mystery. And when he shifts gears into something a bit more bluesy or jazzy, like James Taylor, it sounds contrived. It was good to hear Mother & Child Reunion again.

not my style

Wie fast immer: sympathisch. Mehr seh ich hier aber nicht.

Chilled, something I'd really have to be in the mood for to appreciate properly, but only for a few songs at a time. Enjoyable.

L’album bouteille d’eau.

Theres one good song on this album, Mother and Child reunion, but it’s guilty of massive cultural appropriation. The fact that it was made back in 72 before cultural appropriation was a thing allows it to slide though. Funny how attitudes and times change. Anyways the rest of the album didn’t grab me and I wouldn’t listen to it again so this gets two stars

Aucune chanson m'a vraiment marquée. Hit du cd: Paranoia Blues (unreleased version)

Julio is fine, but I swear to freaking Garfunkel if there’s one more Paul Simon solo record on this list I’m burning it to the ground.

Surprisingly not a fan of this, and I already love Paul Simon...? It feels like a lot of B tracks, and just a weird sound for him. Wasn't impressed.

50% huonompi ja tylsempi versio Simon&Garfunkelista. Toisaalta ei suuremmin ärsyttänytkään. HMV.

This is pleasant enough. Simon writes wonderful lyrics, which I tend to enjoy more than the music itself. Every now and then a great line pops out and stops me getting bored. I likely wouldn't choose to ever listen to this, but it's inoffensive enough. I'd quite like the coat he wears on the cover, so fluffy.

wussy shit

not bad, but too much singer songwriter type stuff like this on this list

Pointless music. I don’t like Simon & Garfunkel so it’s hardly surprising that I don’t like Simon without Garfunkel.

Aburrido

Sleepy stuff...

#398 / 1089 Heard before? ❌ Revisit? ❌ Paul Simon's brand of folkey pop music has never been to my taste. For some reason I find his reggae grooves especially annoying. Stongly leaning to 1/5, while I appreciate his pop music craft mastery.

It’s not the worst 1 star

did not like this at all

Not my style. At all. Pretty good, but i know i won't listen to this willingly.

I just really don't like this, kind of a bore

Not for me

not my thing

Oh god make it stop - it’s like “Cultural Appropriation - The Album” 😂

Prima piesă o fost fier

I feel like im hearing same song across whole album. Only „Me and Julio” stands out.

Can't see the appeal.

Apart from mother and child reunion ( which I used to think was someone else) this album is utter drivel, are the songs rejects from S&G albums. Now I know why I find Graceland so offensive on the ears

Boring and not my vibe

Last two weeks all i'm getting is Paul Simon and Neil Young. I'm sick of both of them. I've heard Graceland and PSR&T and now this album. This album was done after separating from Garfunkel where Simon, I guess, had to prove that he's an actual musician and this proved that he was capable of writing songs and making music. Lyrically the songs are open and honest. Nothing overly creative, it's like conversational songwriting. Don't get me wrong, I think there's skill in being able to communicate your emotions effectively and directly, and that's what he does.....it just doesn't blow me away. It doesn't help that i'm just not interested in his music and this album is full of cartoony melodies. In terms of albums to listen to before you die, this one is replaceable and forgettable. I get that it established Paul Simon as a legitimate artist without Garfunkel but.........ok? Great. I think we can afford to drop this album since he's so represented on this list. As you can tell, I don't have a high impression of Paul Simon.

#31 I'm beyond done hearing folk from this list

American folk. Really not my think at all, like a weird form of storytelling but very much at the cost of the music being good.

Detesto Paul Simon.

1. mother - 2 2. duncan - 1.5 3. together - 1 4. run - 1 5. day - 1.5 6. julio - 2.5 7. River -1.5 8. Papa - 1 9. Blues - 1 10. Paranoia - 1 11. Congratulations - 1.5

Not my thing

Very dull

oh god no no

Yeah, no. I just can't.

Achei uma bosta

Another bland Paul Simon offering. None of these tracks have a single memorable tune or beat. Looking back I can vaguely remember individual parts, like the pan pipes in Duncan, but overall it's a big boring wash, except for Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard, which just sounds like 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover. Simon and Garfunkel can both jog on as far as I'm concerned, but I fear that as I'm only halfway through this list more of their tedious work is lying in wait for me along the way. I was going to give this two stars as it wasn't actually offending me or making me reach for the fast forward button too often. But then I found the songs from Papa Hobo onwards so painfully boring I had to take a break from the album and it didn't improve once I came back to finish it. One star.

Feels like modern singer songwriter slop but it's made back in 1972.

This was pretty ignorable. It felt kind of like a folk version of children's songs. I feel like I needed to listen to the lyrics better to like this, but I wasn't drawn into the music.

I like folk music, but I just could not get in to this.

Not my cup of tee, but the guy is very good in general

bruh, the bs with his friend was better

From the limp half baked attempt at reggae on the starting track, Paul Simon tries to give a wordy sophistication that fails the longer it goes on. As for 'me and Julio', mediocre tune to mysterious words, what was he thinking, trying to be a second hand Bob Dylan, pathetic. Desperately trying to prove he is more than just half a famous duo, this sounds uninspired and toe curling embarrassing. Like a book that promises intrigue and delivers endless filler. If you have this on vinyl kindly scratch so that no one is subjected to this mess. As for the picture on the album... ugg, just burn it. Should have been number 1002 out of 1001 albums.

Maybe one song sounds ok...otherwise...very flat. Will not listen again, sorry Mrs. Robinson

It was nothing special - songs didn’t hit.

When not being carried by Garfinkel, Simon is reduced to making white-washed reggae and bland guitar ballads. Album is a snoozefest. 1 ZZZZ out of 5

Another album with/by Paul Simon. Way too many on this list. When maybe one Simon & Garfunkel and one solo album (Graceland) would make sense.

I don't think much of paul simon

Not for me

Doesn't match my taste in music.

Hellish

Not my thing

Profondement ennuyeux ...

oh hell no

Not for me. 1/5

So'nt like it. No consistency. Hatte "Hobo' Blues", that violin. zero stars

Couldn't stand it. Had to stop halfway through the 3rd track.

I truly wish I could like this album.

pretty awful, especially that me and julio song run that body down

Meh. I dislike Paul period.

Mundane songwriting. honestly nothing of substance was sung about on the album. everything felt like normal everyday things. now nothing against that. but at the time there were so many other songwriters doing something similar, while still adding a bit of substance in between the songs. honestly teh album bored me to tears. every song felt the same. slight variances in tempo and tone but they felt the same.

Paul Simon is just not my jam. Hard pass.
