Reviews (page 6 of 13)

Yes, still an amazing debut and a shot across the boughs of the English scene. No wonder Eric Clapton freaked out on seeing the Experience play. Essential listening for the beginning of the journey Hendrix would take and a distillation of all of those years on the chitlin' circuit. Brillance at work, light the touch paper and stand clear.

5 out of 5

Classic. Almost front to back bangers and an amazing debut from the band. Jimi gets all the praise and credit, as he should, but Mitch Mitchell fucking rules on this record too

Wow. We have arrived. But tell me...are you experienced? This album will always have a special place in my heart. I remember my brother saying "you've gotta listen to this song" as he played Are You Experienced and I heard those wonky distorted guitars and he smiled and said "it's cause the guitar is being played backwards". This album is so good, and while I'm not a fan of every single song, I can't leave this one without a perfect 5 star review. To hear something like this in 1967 must have been a trip. I also found a new song I really liked in Third Stone from the Sun. Very trippy. And FYI to the blokes who made this list...take a good long look at the wiki on this one. Widely regarded as one of the greatest albums of all time. And it's a damn debut! Very different than peaking at 200 on the UK charts. This is one of those albums that you def need to listen to before you die. Kept Purple Haze, The Wind Cries Mary, Third Stone from the Sun, Foxey Lady, and Are You Experienced?

One of those albums I was relieved to see on my screen, instant fives are hard to come by. I was honestly a little surprised that we hadn't gotten this one already, but it's the last of the three, and the debut from Jimi and the Experience. This album means a hell of a lot to me. It was the first record in my vinyl collection (now approaching 700), and it came to me at a time when I was learning how to play guitar. I knew then, as I do now, that Jimi is otherworldly. He does things with his guitar that shouldn't be possible, frequently turning riffs and bent notes into hooks and choruses, even though he also sings. The title track is incredible, one of the best first listens I've ever had in my life, I couldn't believe what I was hearing. It's still impressive, the backwards solo is just unbelievable. For a debut to have this many hits is insane too. Electric Ladyland is also a 5 star for me (and Voodoo Child [Slight Return] is my #1 fav Jimi track), but I think this will always be my favorite album, due in part to that nostalgia. Alex says this album reminds him of me, and I couldn't ask for a higher compliment or association. Jimi is the goat, this album is goated. Favorite tracks: Are You Experienced, The Wind Cries Mary, Foxey Lady, Purple Haze, Manic Depression, Hey Joe, Love or Confusion, Fire, Third Stone from the Sun, Stone Free, Red House. Album art: Possibly my favorite ever, I can't commit to that so quickly but it's undeniably iconic. The color pops, the picture is perfectly psychedelic. There was an OG UK release cover, but it was trash and Jimi himself knew that and wanted a redo. Then they went and made one of the best ever. Considering this was my first vinyl, it's an album art that I've arguably spent the most time with, of course I'm obsessed. 5/5

Listened to this album and couldn’t decide if it was a 4 or 5. Listened to it again and still couldn’t decide. Slept on it. Listened to it again a few days later, still lost. I’ve decided to give it the 5 …. its historical significance pushes it over the edge

Probably Hendrix’ best album

This is an exceptional album in every possible way. Its so unique and outstanding that no one has been able to duplicate or imitate it in any way that even comes anywhere close to the original. Not to mention, listening to it with a head full of acid will seriously make you a different person. 5/5

I don't want to be hyperbolic when we've still got 900+ albums to go, but this might be the easiest 5 I dole out on here. It helps that I'm already familiar with the album and have enjoyed Jimi Hendrix for 30 years, but this album holds up. I can only imagine how mind-blowing this was in 1967.

It's honestly hard to rate this album because all but a few songs are engrained within American culture. With that said the album brings some outrageous guitar and showcases all of that made Jimi Hendrix. I'm all about it. I would love to have heard the energy of the album on release.

No lo escuche pero lo voy a escuchar

This is Hendrix at his best. Crazy guitar riffs, really weird lyrics, and overall awesome tracks all the way through. Great album.

Guitar master masters guitar

Essential listening

One of the best debut albums ever. Incredible how many hits.

Truth be told I was stoned and doing the dishes while listening to this album. I'll give it a sober relisten soon, but I had a great time. When boomers talk about 60s rock having 'feel'. This is what I picture. Obviously Jimi's guitar playing is phenomenal, but Mitch Mitchell's drumming is what kept me engaged with his record. Super jazzy and tight percussion. Favorite tracks: Manic Depression, I Don't Live Today, Fire.

This is what \"listening to albums\" was all about. There are no throw-away cuts on this gem. it is great top to bottom. Even the fee ones that did not become hits or get heavy play on the radio are solid. Plus, the album has my personal Fav Jimi song - \"Are You Experienced\" - The Best! Like Jimi or not, one cannot take away form his genius and mastery and skill - above and beyond and one of the best. A joy to listen to over and over... watch the added footage - 2x. Amazing insight~ I know there are \"5s\" but this IS a 5 by far!

Listened Before? Album Art: 4 / 5 (Candidate for best condensed representation of mid-60's psych rock spirit. Bold colors (check). Crazy Font (check). Wonky outfits (check).) Crazy that this is their debut; they wasted no time working to refine a sound -- it was there from day one. Stocked full of hits: Purple Haze, Manic Depression, The Wind Cries Mary, Hey Joe, Fire, Foxey Lady, and Red House. Album starts off straight fire with Purple Haze and Manic Depression. Really shows off the energy Jimi can bring to a track with solid backing drums. Hey Joe pulls things back to a bluesier vibe, but still puts Hendrix's guitar work on full display. Love the backing vocals and fuzzy bass tone that support this track. Also the drum work is nuts. Love Or Confusion is such a cool period piece. First really psych-infused song on the album, featuring interesting stereo effects and Hendrix with a strong vocal delivery that introduces us to his whisper rambling on the outro. May This Be Love follows this up with another psych track that puts Hendrix's vocals up front. Had this ripping in the background while working all morning. Honestly, just a fantastic album that pulls in plenty of psych rock (Third Stone, Love or Confusion), blues (Red House, Hey Joe), and straight RnR (Manic Depression, Fire). Easy 5 / 5 on this one. Added to Library? Yes (already there) Songs Added to Playlists:

Amazing album, fucking love it

Nice give me the psychedelia back now. This really starts off hot with Purple Haze --> Manic Depression --> Hey Joe Really appreciate Hendrix's ability to create some subtle songs that really hit hard (Hey Joe, Wind Cries Mary, Third Stone - which just reminds me of Jim Morrison) That being said he has some true bangers all over this one. And the songs in between kinda drift you into a dreamlike state. Flow very well together. Love ending with Red House. Such a great bluesy song. Classic Hendrix love it.

Good music. I like. Crazy ass mixing too.

This one is a freebie. One of the albums I would say off-hand is 5 stars. It sets the standard for innovative, influental, powerful, and creative music. It's impact on the music landscape cannot be understated. This box will never be large enough to say everything I feel about this album, and it would all have been said before.

oh fuck yeah! Some Jimmy! 5 Stars goes without saying!

Classic

Enjoyable album, it isn’t perfect but it had an immeasurable impact on music and meant a lot to me personally so it gets a 5. I’m sure there are people out there calling it overrated but they can butter my arse

Rock de Hendrix. Varios megahits. Vinilo.

It's Jimi Hendrix. What else needs to be said? 5 out of 5.

Amazing and classic album.

Jimi Hendrix is an instant 5-star. This is my second favorite album after Axis: Bold As Love.

Solid album. Many classic rock staples.

Superb. One of the better classic rock albums. Amazing guitar.

Gracious! I'd have thought this was a greatest hits album, as it contained all the songs! As much as I know so many of the songs, I'd never listened to this as an album, and it was one of the top experiences I'd hoped for in this project. It's amazing.

I have experienced this album many times in my life. It is pretty amazing, I think.

Sexy and fun. Outstanding!

Never thought of myself as a Jimi Hendrix fan, but this is undeniably a great album. The hits deserve their cultural ubiquity, and the songs I didn’t know are great. Can’t expect more than that!

V good

Are you?

Amazing album, standout song has to be purple haze

Amazing how many well know hots are on this one album.

Um experimento muito interessante em guitarra

There was a lot more genre variety on this album than I realized

Near perfection.

Amazing, unforgettable. 1 of a kind

After all these years, I still don’t know if I’m experienced. But Jimi has given me a lot to think about. Yeah, of course this album is 5 stars. It IS rock and roll. I don’t trust anyone who thinks otherwise. Now please excuse me while I kiss this guy.

I would argue that one cannot truly be considered experienced until they themselves have experienced this mind-bending, psychedelic rock masterpiece from the undisputed GGOAT (Greatest Guitarist of All Time).

His best album. Favourite tracks: The wind cries Mary Purple Haze Hey Joe Manic depression

Really awesome album. Incredible guitar work which was to be expected.

Amazing album full of all time great rock songs.

Best guitar album ever

love it! Favorite Tracks: Foxy Lady, Purple Haze, Hey Joe 5/5

Hendrix is the reason I wanted to play guitar. This album and Electric Ladyland are the fundamental sounds of modern rock

Only knew a couple beforehand, great album

No justification needed for a 5 star rating.

One of my first Jimi albums I listen too and is definitely my favorite.

As far as I'm concerned, Jimi's the greatest guitar player of all time. I'm always happy to listen to him do his thing, and this album's got so much of his best stuff on it it's practically a greatest hits album. The differences between the UK and US releases are interesting. The US version is missing "Red House," one of my favorite Hendrix tracks, but the UK version is missing "Purple Haze," "Hey Joe," and "The Wind Cries Mary," so the US version gets my vote as the superior option. That said, it looks like they've expanded both versions to 17-track albums that fill the gaps, so at this point it doesn't really matter. Regardless, this is top-notch rock.

Firey, psychedelic, bluesy rock n roll. Everything Jimi Hendrix did was superb.

Amazing.

Straight fire. So many great songs. A little long but so good

One of the best albums ever, let alone debut albums. Amazing guitar work obviously, and the drumming is insane. The vocals could be seen as the weakest part, but he sings so effortlessly and cool, it's not weak at all. Fire is probably my favorite track. Manic Depression if you want a deeper cut.

Kinda cool to listen to this album on the anniversary or Hendrix’s death. Great album .

I had never listened to the whole album. I liked it a whole lot more than I thought I would. Four stars for my personal reaction plus one for historical significance.

Low five - a great listen

Oh okay nowwwww I get it. This one was a casualty of the random sort of the 1001 Albums Generator. We got Axis: Bold As Love first, followed by Electric Ladyland, and then Are You Experienced. In my opinion, the wrong order to go about things. If we had started here, things would have made a bit more sense why everyone collectively went crazy over this. Because it's soooooo good. Insane energy between the players, things just light up when they play together, it's not boring at all. Some monumental tracks, but also just a very enjoyable listen through and through. Sounds like there is some tracklisting confusion between this version on Spotify (17 tracks) and the various US and UK versions, each shorter but each with tracks that the other didn't have. My only complaint– a bit long and dragging at times– is pretty moot, if this is an extended "legacy" version. Regardless of any order, some songs just hit you out of nowhere, they're infectious. I'm happy for my man Jimi and the clear height of his stardom, both technical virtuosity and frontman appeal here. Everything is pretty amazing. Always thought the title track, Are You Experienced, was more beloved! That's what I think about here. Just sounds like it's the continuation of Strawberry Fields, they just go one right into the other. I'm fully there for it. 5/5

Another staple from my late teens, and another that aged even better than I thought given that I properly overplayed this. So much more interesting both production and song wise than a lot of ‘classic rock’ from that era. I don’t even like calling Hendrix classic rock. Hes better than that. Always thought for such a perfectionist he really manages to capture that raw / live sound incredibly well. I remember reading a story about how he and the bass player fell out after about 20 takes he couldnt get the bass riff as perfect as he wanted it. The bass player stormed out for a cigarette and when he came back he found Hendrix recording it himself in one take. What a guy. This is the quintessential Hendrix record (although Axis Bold as Love is still my favourite). The whole record is great from start to finish, but Fire, Manic Depression, Hey Joe, Purple Haze, Third Stone, and Foxey Lady are my standouts

Loved it, full of most of Jimis best songs and the production is as authentic as it comes, classic rock albums should sound like this. While there was a definite quality gap between the big songs and the album tracks the other songs are great background music until a single pulls you in. Foxey lady is very nostalgic due to featuring in Wayne's World. Hendrix is probably the best marriage of talented guitarist and cool rock icon and this album shows both sides.

So I've been trying to think of a reason to give this a 4 so the group average is tempered somewhat - Simon and Garfunkel's Bridge Over Troubled Water and Fleetwood Mac's Rumors are unequivocally better albums overall. But I cannot. Thoroughly enjoyed pretty much all of this. Have been humming "Hey Joe" since the weekend. 4.5 stars.

Not listened to a whole Jimi Hendrix album before but this was quality. There isn't a bad song on the album and the Blues sounding Rock is just so catchy. Everything about this album is so effortlessly cool. Highlights: Purple Haze Hey Joe Love Or Confusion Foxey Lady

Ooh not listened to this before. Bet some of the stuff he was doing with the guitar was mind blowing when this was released. The hits are fantastic, although I perhaps thought I might have enjoyed the other album tracks more than I did. Purple haze is an amazing opener, almost think it shouldn't open with that track! Still great overall, but the fact that I was expecting it to be great made it difficult for it to live up to my expectations. Highlights: Purple haze Hey Joe Fire The wind cries Mary Highway Chile 4.5, but only because I thought I would enjoy it more

Album #23 The word “iconic” is often thrown around too casually. That is not the case when calling this an iconic album. The debut album by Jimi Hendrix always blows me away, as I always pick up on new sounds. It’s probably not worth discussing that he had more influence on electric guitar players than just about anybody else in history. His lyrics also match the psychedelic sound that he mastered. His backing band is right there with him too. While it is a little harder to hear the bass, it’s definitely worth listening a separate time to listen for that part. 5* - No questions

Legendário.

Timeless classic: >> 10/10 (just like Axis and Electric Ladyland)

This was just great. No further comments.

Petit côté "collection de tubes" par rapport à electric ladyland, mais bon on ne va pas chipoter. Si on compare au reste de Hendrix il y a à redire, mais dans l'absolu c'est très très très bien.

Never heard the whole album before. Marvellous stuff.

C'mon, it's Jimi

This Hendrix fellow can play guitar a little bit.

The band was definitely on fire for this record. I was delighted to be reminded of the song “Highway Chile”!

Thanks to this project, I have now listened top-to-bottom to three Hendrix, rather than just the "smash hits:" AYE, Axis, and Electric Ladyland. This is the best, tightest, most insane. MAN he was good. I can't believe how ahead he was of everybody.

Yes, I am experienced. I have been experienced.

Favourite tracks: purple haze; hey Joe; the wind cried Mary; fire; foxey lady; are you experienced?; Highway chile; I don't live today

Hendrix's riffs are the main reason this album gets a 5. While the songs are great across the board, with some being phenomenal, without Hendrix's masterclass on the guitar this album wouldn't have been as memorable or good.

Easily one of the greatest albums of all time.

Surely the greatest Hendrix entry on the list? Bursts out of the speakers with such verve and energy, a sound to shift the earth's axis and recalibrate music forever. Insane guitar sounds and an incredible rhythm section. It'll have you bopping along. A classic.

Peak Hendrix. Absolutely amazing album.

Mind-blowing

Jimi Hendrix is awesome as usual. The guitar playing and the amount of hits on the album is incredible.

Amazing. No notes.

Move over Rover, and let Jimi take over! Man, what a treat we get with this 60-minute masterpiece. Are You Experienced starts off with a classic Hendrix tune in “Purple Haze,” and begs the question: Which came first, the weed or the song? They can both put you on another spiritual level, so the answer is inconsequential. “Hey Joe” fuses the amusingly dark storytelling of Johnny Cash with the carefree background vocals of the era’s psychedelic rock bands. I’d never heard “May This Be Love,” but with its mesmerizing drums and inquisitive guitar, it’s earned itself a spot on my main playlist. The songwriting in “The Wind Cries Mary” is some of Jimi’s best, with lines like “You can hear happiness / Staggering on down the street / Footprints dressed in red.” How do we reconcile happiness with the imagery of murder? And why do we only hear happiness? Why don’t we see it? Wedged between “Fire” and “Foxey Lady,” Jimi gets real existential with “Third Stone From The Sun,” an alien love song to our Mother Earth. Are we a virus killing our terminally ill planet, or is he overreacting? To all of our detriment, he didn’t live long enough to either elaborate or find out. Are You Experienced is both the most influential and the greatest blues rock album ever conceived, full stop. Will there be another like it? With this crutch, its old age, and its wisdom, we whisper, “No, this will be the last.”

This album is fucking gas. I've had Fire and Foxey Lady on my phone for years but I had no idea the rest of this album was so rockin'.

I'm a very inexperienced fella

Don't like steely dan

Far too many classics on this album. Easily one of the greatest debut albums of all time. This album launched Hendrix onto the scene and is, unfortunately, one of only three albums we got from him. With so many songs on this project, it’s incredibly impressive that each one stands out against the others. The songwriting is beautiful and impeccable. The instrumentation is obviously immaculate, as Hendrix couldn’t play poorly if he tried. This album deserves to be on the list. Production is the only area that isn’t stellar, but I’ve never really cared too much about that. 5/5

Shut up and take my money 🤜💰💰💰

Brilliant, I’ve herd it before and I thought it was a high 4/low 5 but this is definitely a 5 so amazing!

Just a perfect album - revolutionary psychedelic blues rock that was also steeped in pop sensibility. Absolute legend.

I'd forgotten how good this album is. Just hit after hit. And even the filler is excellent.

Awesome

Legendary artist, legendary album.

One of the highest peaks of electric guitar music ever reached. Jimi Hendrix is undeniably one of the greatest and listening to this album is all you need to feel the influence that he’s had on the music scene as a whole. Just stunning 5/5 Fav tracks: Purple Haze, The Wind Cries Mary

Jimi Hendrix showcased his incredible technical abilities for the first time on a LP. What a debut album it is - groovv, funky, an overall incredible experience to listen to still today (and I can't imagine how it sounded for those who listened to it for the first time back in 1967). It is an absolute classic record for a reason - one of the very best of the 1960s.

Guitar absolutely on point. Drums are belter. GOAT remains GOATed. Now excuse me while I kiss this guy

Amazing!

This was (and may still be) my least favorite of Jimi's three studio albums, so I expected to give it a 4. But damn if it didn't just blow me over and make me smile on the way down. Musically, these guys are just awesome: inventive and fresh and fun. (Noel might not be the most exciting bass player ever, but he certainly doesn't get in the way, and his down-the-middle approach gives you something to hold on to while Jimi and Mitch go off.) Unlike in his live shows, this isn't Jimi noodling endlessly next to two other guys. This is a group effort, and the arrangements highlight that. I mean, for this guy being so famous for his guitar playing, there aren't very many guitar solos on here. And Mitch Mitchell is just one of my favorite drummers ever. A lot of these '60s drummers were inspired by jazz drummers, and with Mitch you can really hear that influence. His drumming keeps things light, groovy, and ethereal, but he sure as shit can rock, too: e.g. "Fire." I also love the album's stoner aesthetic and Jimi's goofy lyrical and vocal approach. He just seems like a cat you wanna hang out with. If I have a complaint, the way the instruments are panned in the mix is definitely awkward. I do appreciate how it took producers a few years to figure out where to place everything in the stereo spectrum. Sometimes it can be fun to hear the drums on the left and the vocals on the right instead of in the middle like everything is today, but on this album I found it more distracting than fun. I've also never cared for "Hey Joe." But I didn't let those two things bother me too much. With these albums, I try to ignore the cultural/influential significance because I guess I've taken this whole rating system to mean, "how much do I actually like listening to this album?" And I loved listening to this one. I always liked it OK, but on this listen I loved it to pieces. The hits are great, but the ones that really wowed me this time around were the title track and "Third Stone From the Sun," with that last one holding my interest way more than it should have. So this gets a 5. But in terms of its cultural and influential significance, there aren't very many debut albums that were as important and blindingly original as this one. No wonder Bowie devoted a whole album to Jimi, as he really did seem to come from outer space.

I know music is subjective and shit but like I imagine the kinda person that doesn't rate this a 5 likes the smell of their own farts.

This record was so ahead of its time. I can’t believe it was recorded in 1966. Everything down to their use of stereo sound (which was new at the time) is flawless. Fantastic musicianship all around.

The way that, at 24 years old, Jimi Hendrix was able to make music that sounds like its been informed by decades of exposure and experience, is fascinating. This does not sound like a pioneering record. It sounds as if it took influence both from the music that came before it, and the music that came after it. How is that possible? It's also minimal, straightforward, and a bit basic. But also incredibly rich and dynamic. This is classic rock & roll. I don't often listen to an album's bonus tracks to stay true to what's actually included in the 1001 Albums project, but I had to extend my time with this one. Standout tracks are Third Stone from the Sun, Purple Haze, Are You Experienced?, Highway Chile, and Red House.

How can I say anything other than positive things here? This is the reason rock music sounds like it does.

I mean. This is one of the greatest albums of all time. Love it when I already have an album on vinyl.

Rock classics all the way through

One of the best

One of the best debut albums ever

classic but not my favorite Jimi, strong 9 for me. raw production is great

Classic. Groundbreaking. These songs are so familiar now but must have seemed like a bolt of lightening when this came out originally. Sad that we lost Jimi too soon. He had problems, but could sure play the guitar.

About as good as real guitar and real drums gets. Hendrix rightly gets the spotlight as a pillar of guitar playing, but Mitch Mitchell is having an all-time moment on the drums this entire album. Very Keith Moon like in that it sounds sloppy but is filling every guitar break perfectly. Great songs front to back, 5 stars despite the pretentious 8-minute hippy track.

Where is the weak point on the album? Since I was 13 I haven't found a one.

Seriously, can we carve out a few of these as the foundation of all that has followed? Sometimes the credit for innovation goes to the one who by happenstance gets there first. Then there is Jimi.

Although I've never been a huge Jimi Hendrix fan, it's hard to not give this a 5. This is the prototype for psychedelic hard rock AND power trios. Can't deny the guitar prowess. A couple of songs feel like filler, but the great ones are outstanding.

This has to be one of the greatest debut albums of all time. I can’t even imagine being a guitar player and hearing this for the first time in 1967. Wow he really busted the door right open from track one. My favorites are all of the hits.

Sorry, you are not getting over this one. Timeless clasic.

Incredible debut album. What a sound! And it has 6 (six!) classic songs on it: "Purple Haze," "Manic Depression," "Hey Joe," "The Wind Cries Mary," "Fire" and "Foxey Lady." If I had to choose, "Purple Haze" and "Fire" have to be my favorites. Great energy. A lot of other strong tracks too. Some songs, like “Love or Confusion” and “I Don’t Live Today,” turn up the noise and revel in hard rock jamming and feedback. Awesome stuff. Feels very cathartic.

My favorite Hendrix album, and it is jam packed with legendary tracks. The first 3 songs are my favorite songs of his and easily some of the best rock songs ever. "Manic Depression" is criminally underrated. For this album to have "Purple Haze", "Manic Depression", "Hey Joe", AND other certified slapping hits like "Foxey Lady" "The Wind Cries Mary" "Are You Experienced?" "Highway Chile".. cmon now. "Purple Haze" changed the way that guitar players looked at the instrument and I reckon could be a song that is listened to in our far far future. Phenomenal album art. To me it captures pretty much all of the aspects that you hear in the music. Surreal, trippy, colorful, and confident. My one gripe from a design aspect is that I don't love how there is a texture on "Are you experienced" but the "The Jimi Hendrix Experience" is flat and has no texture. This is probably a personal thing and really not worth any scrutiny whatsoever. The green stroke around the photo is a little weird too but might have been an error in the creation of the graphic. One of the best albums of all time. An easy 5/5 for me and is in the conversation for a top album of my personal top 10.

Classic.

An experience.

This is the perfect psychedelic rock album. Jimi hendrix is one of the best guitarists ever and his albums weren’t just guitar fluff. They provided interesting songs, introspective lyrics, a good jam and all around a spectacular album. Hendrix had years of talent still to go before it was taken away but what he gave us was some of rocks best and most long lasting music. It’s hard to say which album is better but both are top tier rock albums. 8.7/10

Seminal album. Can’t fault it.

Purple Haze is such an uplifting way to start another dreary week. And the song isn't bad either. It's so easy to think of Hendrix as a guitarist, but there is so much more going on here. The arrangements are so layered and swirling and synaesthetic; it's what I imagine clouds sound like.

An album I never actually listened to that enjoyed thoroughly and will listen to again. There’s some unexpectedly weird stuff on this album and the music is wildly good.

Hell yeah

An immaculate debut album from one of the world's best guitar players.

Ok, trying to step away from the giant mythos of this album and my teenage stoner experience (hah, experience) of it to look at it as objectively as possible. Every. Single. Track. Rocks.

What a legend. Consider me Experienced.

holy f*ck nimi joka tunnistan!!!!! yleisesti tunnettu albumi ja artisti holy fkc!!! automaattinen 5 tähteä...noh...katsotaas objektiiviselta näkökannalta...heh... ei varmaan monelle tuttua puuhaa... poppi hitit, joo on vitosen luokkaa itsessään... mutta mites muu kolme neljäsosaa.. nimittäin HUUMEILU ja HÖRHÖILY roolin ottanut tämä performanssi..ekalla puoliskolla ei vähemmistöbiisit iskenyt..third stone from the sun kova lähtötilanne huomattavasti paremmalle b-osiolle. really influential album EI SAATANA VÄLIÄ!!! MUSIIKKIA ATÄSSÄ KUUNNELLAAN JOS ON PASKAA NIIN ON PASKAA...tämä ei ole paskaa.... hey joe

Great album

To be perfectly honest with you all, I don't see what I can say about this historical debut that would add anything meaningful about its sheer impact. Using the overall presentation on this app, I'd rather let Reuben Jackson of the Smithsonian Institution speak: "It altered the syntax of the music ... in a way I compare to James Joyce's Ulysses." Then Reuben dropped the mike, I believe. Oh, just one thing: the CD version (either the US or the UK one), complete with all the singles and bonus tracks recorded during that period, is obviously the edition to own. 5/5 Number of albums left to review: 580 Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 201 Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: 97 Albums from the list I will certainly *not* include in mine (many others are more essential to me): 124

Pretty convenient album to land on April, 20th. I didn’t get high for this listen but it’s good high or not. Absolute classic, plays like a greatest hits, there’s not a miss on this one. Jimi rips start to finish, it’s really hard to pick a favourite, the obvious standouts are excellent, I’ve always loved the closer Red House. This album is an hour of perfection, just awesome. 5 stars

His guitar playing is peerless. This has so much good music.

Some great tracks - makes you wonder what could have been. What hasn't been said. Ed Sheeran eat your heart out.

A love letter and introduction from Jimi. It includes many of his best known songs as well as some incredible instrumentation and songwriting. This album is one of the major sounds of the late 60's and inspired generations of guitarists to explore their artistry. Hard to believe that this is a debut album at times.

Fantastic

a classic. one of the greatest albums of its era. hell if you buy a Jimi Hendrix Greatest Hits album more than half the tracks are from this

The only problem I would say I slightly have with this album is the stereo production and mixing of some songs. The switch between the left and right ear can get annoying at times and feels unnecessary. But that’s not a major problem, it’s only in some songs at certain times. Other than that it’s Joni Hendrix, I don’t think any of his albums would be an 8 or below. This is a 9 for me, is prime 60’s psychedelic, what’s more to say.

I don’t have the energy to wade through this

I am a guitar player, and as per the code of the ax wielders I must always bow down and pray to the good lord above Jimi! Man was just a magician, even his more simplistic playing you just can't replicate without his fingers. There is also some damn good bass and drum playing as well. Excellent album top to bottom and this is absolutely an album that you must hear.

The best Hendrix album!

Hot damn Hendrix was talented. That first three track run is worth 5 stars even before you get deeper into the album. The messy rawness of garage rock with the fanciful whimsy of psychedelia - cracking stuff. Fave track - "Manic Depression" on this playthrough, but let it be known that "Purple Haze", "Hey Joe", "Foxey Lady", "Are You Experienced?", and probably another 4 or 5 tracks are absolutely top tier. Gonna start petitioning the site admins to add a 6th star for when I get "Electric Ladyland" come up...

Awesome

Maður getur tuðað yfir hvort verið sé að meta bandarísku eða bresku útgáfuna; hvort textarnir séu góðir; hvort soundið sé nógu þétt; hvort söngur og bakraddir séu til fyrirmyndar. En þetta er tímamótaverk fyrir því. Fullt hús.

Hell yes. If you haven't experienced "Are You Experienced" yet you're missing out on a whole lot of rock and roll goodness. From the opening riff of "Purple Haze" to the final notes of "Are You Experienced," this album is an absolute trip. Hendrix's guitar work is out of this world, and his lyrics will make you wonder if he was really from this planet. But the best part of this album? It's the perfect soundtrack for any and all mind-altering substances you may or may not choose to partake in. So whether you're a seasoned pro or a curious newbie, "Are You Experienced" will take you on a wild ride that you won't soon forget. In short, if you want to rock out, get weird, and have a damn good time, then Jimi Hendrix's "Are You Experienced" is the quintessential album you need in your life.

First album here I was super excited to see! I can't love Hendrix enough, and this album is just quintessential Hendrix. Listened to this with Frida in the living room over the speakers and just vibed! Absolutely the Zeus of my guitar pantheon.

There is not much to say that already hasn't been said. Hendrix is the greatest guitarist of all time, full stop. It was great to return to his first album and listen to some songs I had forgotten. I particularly enjoyed Highway Chile. Stone Free, Foxy Lady, Purple Haze, and Hey Joe are some certifiable classics.

It kicks balls, but this is an album that could definitely benefit from remixing/remastering in a modern context. The several songs on the version available for streaming includes "stereo" mixing style from the 60's, which just pans some instruments hard left or right, which on headphones is one of the worst listening experiences.

приятно быстро пролетело :))

Can you even say anything bad about Jimi Hendrix?

Amazing, iconic, fun

Top, relaxte rock.

Definitely top 5 albums for me! Blends of rock and blues just does it for me. HOF performer and guitarist.

Perfection. So many classics, but I want to give a special mention to Red House - one of my favourite songs of all time!

Classic

5 brilliant songs on this and a load of other very good ones.

Not my usual choice but stunning! Some bluesy stuff

Great album!

Creative but not to the point it becomes unlistenable, just cool with reversed delays and such (or perhaps playback was reversed) and phenomenal guitar playing.

Simply amazing from start to finish. So many perfect songs

CLASSIC

Got to be 5 stars, some of the best rock tunes of all time

Innovative, fearless, beautiful, reckless, soulful, and technical all at the same time. Jimi was an incredible musician who pushed so many boundaries in so many directions. GOAT

I over listened to this as a grotty teen so took a 30 plus year break from hearing Are You Experienced. Still as great as I remember, so easy to get caught up in.

5 stars. classic. legend.

Excellent

Great album, everything was great, not a bad track on the whole album. Purple haze, foxy lady, third stone from the sun, red house, just all great classic songs

perfection

Tätä voi kutsua jo klassikoksi. Ei täysi femma, mut pyöristyy ylöspäin

In his debut, Jimi Hendrix establishes himself as a game-changing musician through this seminal acid-rock release. Taking heavy inspiration from jazz and acting as an early precursor to jam rock, his riffs are memorable and catchy yet harsh and energetic, often shrouding his hazy and slightly distorted vocals (yet you could still understand the lyrics clearly), capable of swaying you in all sorts of directions to build up suspense and reach satisfying conclusions. Out of 11 tracks, about half of them are already famous hits most rock fans already know, even if they just casually listen to rock radio. The remaining songs are just as incredible yet still pop-structured (compared to his other 2 albums), thus making this his most accessible and fun. Bonus tracks are also worth listening to.

Each song is amazing. More than just Jimi's singing and guitar, the rest of the band is great. It's a perfect blend. I used to be a fan of Electric Ladyland, but I think this is better.

Groundbreaking and superb

Basically the album for which classic rock was coined

HL: “May this Be Love”, “Fire”, “Manic Depression”, “Red House”, the title track Oh there’s a US version?: “Hey Joe”, “The Wind Cries Mary”, “Stone Free”, “Purple Haze” So many editions of the same album 🤯 I choose to rate the combined tracks together (book has the UK tracklist), since it feels like a greatest hits comp of Hendrix’s career. And it’s his debut!(s) January 13, 2023

- Heard this before - Classic album, so much influence on so many different genres - Fav songs: Are You Experienced?, Manic Depression, Foxy Lady

Raised on it Songs are great Some production definitely of its time I tend to go back to some live recordings when I want some Jimi Mitch on drums though … so good

Jimi’s best album? Some all-time classic songs on this, especially Purple Haze, Foxey Lady, Fire, Highway Chile.

Great album

Near perfect album that still holds up 55 years later.

-a classic -Jimi Hendrix is just the greatest guitarist of all time -such a great vibe from Fire & Foxey Lady -there is a reason I painted this album cover FAVORITE: Fire

Unbelievable all round. What a trio. Great bass, fantastic drumming and obviously…Hendrix!!! If I’d listened to this in 1967 I’d probably have shit my pants, then taken acid and listened to it again immediately.

Brilliant album from one of the best guitar players

L'album le plus important de Hendrix.

Perfect album, no notes

Classic album with almost all great songs.

Mitch Mitchell is arguably the most underrated drummer of all time. Dude can rival anything Bonham or Moon were doing but Hendrix overshadowed all, so he's rarely in the discussion. Speaking of, it really bothers me that these albums are just credited to Hendrix himself on Spotify and not the Experience. Further minimizing Mitchell and Redding's efforts.

This is the Hendrix album I knew before starting this listening challenge. If I’m being honest, it’s more like a 4.5, but I’ll round it up because there’s just so many great songs.

So many great songs on this record. Manic Depression, Wind Cries Mary, I Don't Live Today, Stone Free, Fire, Purple Haze. It's an absolute murderer's row of classic songs. An utterly fantastic record.

This is one of those rarities, a bonafide classic the moment it landed in stores. You start with Purple Haze, Manic Depression, Hey Joe, Wind Cries Mary, Fire, Foxey Lady (and it was spelt that way, hmmmm did not know that), Are you Experienced. Amazing stuff.

Brillliant album, I don't think I've ever listened to the whole thing before but it's definitely worth it! Saved tracks: Purple Haze, Love Or Confusion, I Don't Live Today, Fire, Foxey Lady, Red House

wish i could give more than 5 stars

So unique. Joe brought me back to the high school talent show.

This album is phenomenal and I'm still confused at how Jimi was able to make the music he did at such a young age.

Banger

Classic

I mean, its jimi hendrix...he's the GOAT

Have You Ever Been Experienced?

One of the real gems in my collection of vinyl. I suspect that Third Rock and Red House are a bit under appreciated by the general populace but both hold very dear spots on my list of favorites. And if my baby don't love me no more, I know her sister will!

I'd like to think I am experienced. And at over 400 albums in on the 1001 list, one thing I am experienced at is wading through a lot of mediocre "must-listen" albums in order to find the gems that break the ratings scale. "Are You Experienced?" is one of those gems. I could do without "Third Stone From the Sun," and "Stone Free" could actually use a little less cowbell, but aside from those two minor foibles this is an absolutely incredible album. Hendrix was so much more than just an amazing guitarist, and this album really put all of his experiences and talents together to show us all that not matter how experienced we might be, no one else will ever be Jimi. I would turn it up to 12, but the most I'm allowed to give is 5.

Pure. Fucking. Brilliance. Hendrix is one of one as a guitar player. At one point in my life I would have vehemently argued Mitch Mitchell as the greatest drummer of all time. I’m not there today, but his effort on Fire is one of my favorite percussion performances of all time. He is still one of my favorite drummers. If the track list were reduced to: Purple Haze, Manic Depression, Hey Joe, The Wind Cries Mary, Fire, Foxy Lady, Stone Free, and Red House (the greatest hits tunes I was intimately familiar with previously), this album would be an 50 out of 5. Note I was going to go 10 out of 5 as an extreme, but jkav and p-ass already went to 12 and 11 respectively. I won’t be out extremed!!! It took me 4 listens to appreciate the lesser known tracks, but I’m down. If I could throw one track away, it would be the title track. Regardless, this is still easily a 5 out of 5.

Really good album with some classics

if u don't like this i don't like u

I’m completely aware of how sacrilegious this might sound, but despite playing guitar for over half of my life I’ve never actually listened to a Jimi Hendrix album from front to back. Better late than never! Songs I already knew: Purple Haze, Hey Joe, Foxey Favourites: Purple Haze, Foxey, May This Be Love It’s common knowledge that Jimi was a revolutionary guitar player, but I don’t think that his vocals are talked about quite enough. His smooth baritone definitely deserve more recognition as it sounded frankly divine. The song compositions were amazing throughout the album, displaying excellent rock sounds with a pinch of funk for good measure. I thoroughly enjoyed this album and would consider it quite exceptional. I can see why the world loved him, and why the world grieved so much when he passed away so young. I definitely recommend everybody gives this a listen.

Awesome and legendary rock album. Great debut.

Classic album

This album is so good. I love the live feeling energy on it. Jimi’s songwriting and lyrics are so good (Wind Cries Mary and May this Love are two of my favorites). I love his voice and his vocal delivery is so cool.Really love Mitch Mitchell’s drumming on this album, so fluid like the wind or the rain - perfectly locked in with Jimi’s playing and all the cymbals saturate the space and glue everything together. The jam and kid in me was freaking out over Third Stone from the Sun ( it gets so out with the rhythmic displacement with the bass and drums). Jimi’s voice on the guitar is so unique often imitated but never replicated). The title track is so cool - the heavy pulsating of the reverse drums - the psychedelic lyrics. The intro to Foxey Lady is so cool how it swells into the that heavy groove. Really great blues on Red House. Love the drums on manic depression. I could talk about this album all day.

This is the first music I have a conscious memory of hearing, and I listened to this record pretty much everyday between the ages of 3-10. I can’t even begin to describe how important this record is to me. I could go on and on but this record is absolutely legendary and one of the most important things to ever happen to rock n roll. 10/5

After having found the original UK version; then onto to American version (with different songs); then falling in the rabbithole of why to listen to which version. Finding out that the song order on the later US version is more to Jimi Hendrix' liking, but that he was pissed the Americans left his songs like "Red House", "Can You See Me" and "Remember" off, I just created my own playlist with all the songs of the original version, added the single's and put them onto the U.S. versions order. And was a great 2 hours of dicking around with an incredible album. So here we are: "Puple Haze" "Manic Depression" "Hey Joe" "Red House" "Love Or Confusion" "May This Be Love" "I Don't Live Today" "Can You See Me" "The Wind Cries Mary" "Fire" "Third Stone From The Sun" "Foxey Lady" "Remember" "Are You Experienced?" Now, Jimi Hendrix has never released that 'perfect' album that some people have, but this one is as close as you're going to get to it. 4,5*

The Blues. Gin. Hendricks/x. 5 stars.

Jimi Hendrix is obviously an incredible musician and that shines through on his debut album. I can only imagine what it would have been like to hear this at the time as it is pretty revolutionary in its style. The best songs are May This Be Love (although the mix is questionable), Hey Joe and the title track. Along with other tracks that appeared on other releases of this album, such as Purple Haze and The Wind Cries Mary, the latter of which I think is one of the greatest songs of all time. I have already listened to this album three times and will certainty be listening to it again 4.75/5

Jimi Hendrix is in my opinion one of the greatest artist of all time. I just love this album it´s of of my favourite by the Jimi Hendrix Experience . On this album are so important songs for me personally .I really enjoyed listening to it every time I do.

Awesome Jimi!

10/10/22 Nothing like it yet. To me, few albums as complete as this one. Transcendent. New appreciation every time I listen.

Hard to put it in words. Would have loved to have seen him live, I mean the bass and drums are absolutely spot on too but Jimi just had everything. I'm in pieces here can't cope. One of the greatest albums of any genre.

His career was so short all the hits are on one record. Could listen over and over.

So many good songs and riffs. I think my favorite is Wind Cries Mary, but so many good so songs…

Low hanging fruit is still fruit: the guitar work on this album is amazing. Favorite track: Hey Joe

Still awesome

Purple Haze- A fantastic start to the album👍 Manic depression- guitar solo is next level👍 Hey Joe- A more bluesy inspired sung Love or confusion - another guitar driven song👍 May this be love- A more laid back and gentle song, just beautiful👍 I don't live today- another blues track and obviously Guitar is next level The wind cries Mary - quite a sweet melancholic song👍 Fire - just okay compared to other songs on the album Third stove from The Sun- groovy mostly instrumental Foxey Lady - meh Are you experienced - a very experimental and psychedelic track👍 This is a masterpiece 5/5

Unreal. Can't believe this is a debut album, what a talent. Standouts are "Purple Haze", "Foxy Lady", "Hey Joe"

Incredible debut. 3/4 of the tracks on this album are stone cold classics. The only fault is the muddy sound that comes close to doing his revolutionary guitar work a disservice. Not enough of a fault to rate this any lower than 5 stars though. Just an amazing record front to back.

Jimi Hendrix recordings have always sounded otherworldly and chaotic - much like the tunes themselves.

This slapped.

There are couple of songs in the middle that drag a bit and stop this from being a perfect album for me, but the rest of it is just fantastic so it's getting a 5 anyway

Un bel album de hendrix que j’ai ecoute des centaines de fois, ce qui m’a fait commence la guitare et aime la musique en fait. 5****

The only one who can do the blaring guitar thing in a genius way. Wow! Where did this man come from? He was outta this world.

A great album. A lot of the songs were recognizable and it was fun to listen to it. I will listen to it again.

One of my favorites already.

It's crazy that not only are all of these songs on one album, but it's their debut album.

already heard, love this even more now

Muy bueno - 5

I knew the US & UK versions had different covers but was surprised to learn they had some different tracks and track ordering. Never occurred to me in 30 years of listening to AYE despite knowing Beatles albums did this. So, today I listened to the original North America track order and afterwards the original UK order. Unsurprisingly I prefer the NA order. Purple Haze and The Wind Cries Mary in the NA version are vastly superior to Can You See Me and Remember in the UK version. North American version is a 5 and one of my favorites of all time; UK version is a 4.5 and rounds to a 5. Third Stone From The Sun is possibly my favorite song of all time.

Genius

9/10, brilliant.

Fantastic album, know it very well. I own the UK version, so hearing it in the US order was slightly disconcerting. Nice listening to it intently on headphones too.

Some really good guitar riffs in here. I feel like he shows off but I think that’s the whole Jimi Hendrix Experience no?

Great relaxing experience. An awesome album. An iconic album.

All time classic.

PURPLE HAZE STONE FREE IYKYK

Fucking superb album, is easier to name the songs i didnt like than the ones i did.

I am now. First time listening all the way through. Absolute Unit.

Rating: 9/10 Best songs: Purple haze, Hey Joe, May this be love, I don’t live today, Fire

Super classic.

The album that redefined what was possible with a guitar. Hendrix is of course transcendent, but attention should also be paid to Noel Redding (bass) and Mitch Mitchell (drums)-their tight, locked-in groove gives a sturdy frame to the six-string fireworks.

Soooo many killer songs

I used to listen to this album when I first started learning how to play guitar. Let’s be real — this record is one of the best of all time, and I don’t usually say that! Jimi has a unique voice, both from his throat and through his guitar. None of the songs bleed together, all are distinct from one another and fantastic. You can very clearly hear how Hendrix takes existing musical styles and approaches and rearticulates them into something new.

On the short list of best debut albums ever. Nothing else to say. Best track: Hey Joe

Truly peerless

Excellent. While from its time still a great listen.

p122. 1967. 5 stars Sounds as fresh today as when it was first issued. Not a weak track on this. Hugely influential. Raised the bar for every other guitarist without ever straying in wankage, although you can argue that Third Stone From The Sun outstays its welcome. Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell on top form. Packed with genuine rock classics. This one is essential listening.

Hendrix is the shit. It’s crazy to think that an artist could lock in on their sound in a debut album. It’s quintessential Jimi right from the jump. So many bangers on this one. It’s damn near perfect.

The debut album by Jimi Hendrix and considered to be one of the best albums of all time. After listening to this album and songs so many times, I initially had difficulty deciding how to listen to it this time. I decided on what influences and styles am I hearing. And, I heard at core, blues, jazz, some funk, folk, Indian Raga and a lot of Yardbirds. But most of all, it was Hendrix's guitar solos, noises, layers, rhythm and everything else that took the fusion of those styles over the top to make it so unique and great. This album was recorded over five months in 16 sessions at three different locations in London. Jimi had moved to London several months earlier at the request of his manager, Chas Chandler, to recruit band members which then included Noel Redding (bass) and Mitch Mitchell (drums). This is one those albums chosen by the Library of Congress to include in the National Recording Registry for its cultural significance. Yes. Besides the previously mentioned how, the other question is what songs and order of songs are you going to listen in and to. There is a different UK version which excluded the three previously released singles and a different album cover than the US version. Actually, there are six different track listings for this album. I went with the CD version which included all 17 songs. How could the US version not include "Red House?" Does song order matter on this album? Maybe? I don't know. Although, the last song does need to be "Are You Experienced?" Hard to pick out favorites here. Pretty much all classics or at least something interesting to say. "Purple Haze" starts things off (on the US version) with just a classic guitar intro. The guitar then takes a pyschedelic turn sounding like the Byrds. The rhythm section is classic blues. I always liked the chaotic and pyschedelic "Manic Depression" which has a weird time signature (3/4) more like a waltz. Hendrix's cover of "Hey Joe" is the song that got him recognized in NYC. The first thing I think of when I hear "Fire" are Mitch Mitchell's drums but the bass and Jimi's solo are awesome too. One of my favorite Hendrix songs is "Red House", classic blues sounding like the Yardbirds, starts out with more of BB King influenced riff and then Jimi takes it to a whole another world with his solos and improvisation. Listening to and reading about this album brought up memories of seeing the Hendrix exhibit at Seattle's Museum of Pop Culture. I think the exhibit is permanent, definitely worth checking out. Ah, and I have two more Hendrix album coming up at some point. Lucky me.

The title track is my favorite Hendrix song.

wonderful album. really holds up

Purple Haze is a classic for a good reason. Hey Joe is a classic for a good reason. Love or Confusion is a classic for a good reason. May This be Love is a classic for a good reason. I Don't Live Today is a classic for a good reason. Fire is a classic for a good reason. Third Stone from the Sun is meh. Foxey Lady is a classic for a good reason. And so on and so forth...... I love this album.

Great album all around

fav track: manic depression

So good.

Amazing

Quite possibly the best psychedelic rock ever put to wax. Bold, innovative, virtuosic, fun, trippy, rockin' perfection.

Absolute classic - had some great tracks I didn't remember too

Another classic. One of the best guitar albums. Full creative control to Jimi. Back to back hits.

Fantastic from start to finish

I was 7 when this came out, but I rarely heard any of his songs for another 10 years. What an absolute barnstormer this is now, let alone 55 years ago. All killer, no filler, funky, rocking, guitar pyrotechnics. It has it all. 55 stars.

This is the real GOD of guitar. This album came beaming down to fuck up your noise holes and blow your tiny mind. We weren't experienced until after we listened to this album. Best Tracks: Purple Haze; Fire; Red House

All timer

Incredible album. Even the weaker songs are good. Love the guitar tones and production of the album.

Essência do vigor do rock estabelecido.

MASTERPIECE.

Rock solid from the first track to the last.

Jimi's talent is staggering, I'm taken aback every time I listen. This album is stacked with excellent songs. "Manic Depression" and "Hey Joe" are a couple of my all time favorites.

My favorite Hendrix album and quite possibly the greatest debut in rock history. Absolutely bursting with creative energy. Brought a potent heaviness and deep soulfulness to the Summer of Love. I only wish he would have lived longer so he could have continued to bend genres until the lines disappeared. Forever in awe of the way he rewrote the book on electric guitar. He plays so brilliantly but never comes across as overly technical or flashy because his playing was always in complete service to the songs. And you couldn't have asked for a better rhythm section! Such a muscular sound with just the right amount of psychedelic flourish in the production. Plays like a greatest hits. Five stars and a chef's kiss.

This is a fantastic album right here! It is absolutely crazy to think that this is a debut album as it is half filled with legendary classic songs known by most ('Purple Haze', 'The Wind Cries Mary', 'Fire', 'Hey Joe', and 'Foxy Lady' are all rock staples and will continue to be for many years). Beyond these tracks, every other song had something unique to offer and featured some great instrumentals (especially the well-regarded guitar work). There were lots of awesome moments that stood out to me throughout the listen: cool stereo mixing on 'May This Be Love' where the instruments keep switching sides, the insane breakdown at the end of 'I Don't Live Today', the cool backwards-like effects on the title track, etc. The feeling I had going through this record reminded me a lot of listening to the Ramones' debut album for the first time as I can just picture Jimi and his band ripping through these songs in a live setting and absolutely blowing everyone's minds. This album is much more intricate though so from a technical perspective, this is more impressive overall. The only negative I can think of is that 'Third Stone From the Sun' lost me a bit due to its length, but I am willing to bet that it would grow on me through subsequent listens. Overall, this is one of those albums that no doubt earns a spot on this list and that I will probably revisit again in the near future. 4.5/5.

Perhaps the greatest debut album of all time. Psychedelic blues want else could you want.

I mean, come on. Everything about this album is perfect, from the first mind blowing riffs right down to that cover art. I can't even imagine what it was like hearing this album fresh in 1967. Jimi's still years ahead of the rest of us, over 50 years later. Fave Songs (All songs, from most to least favorite, from original US version): Purple Haze, Foxey Lady, Fire, Are You Experienced?, The Wind Cries Mary, May This Be Love, I Don't Live Today, Manic Depression, Love or Confusion, Hey Joe, Third Stone from the Sun

Essential Jimi Hendrix. A lot of his best songs are here on this album. My first 5/5.

Easy 5. There aren’t enough superlatives to describe how great this record is. Hard rock, psychedelic, blues, catchy pop hooks, etc etc etc all with Hendrix’s distinctive voice and guitar defining a new direction of rock music.

Classic rock is classic, but glory be some albums are nitro fuel to the global music engine. Case in point.

This album is rad. Lots of classic Hendrix hits. I know lots of modern players give Hendrix flack for not being the most precise guitar player, but I love his playing style on this record. There was a time when I was a bit burned out on most of these tracks, but listening now after having not listened in several years they don't seem played out and I really enjoyed the whole album.

Great album. I listened to jimi in middle school and sorta burnt myself out on him then, but I guess 30 years is long enough to come back.

What is there to say, this is as good as it gets, and Hendrix earned his GOAT status for obvious reasons. I don’t love the slower blusey stuff as much, but even some of the “lighter” songs still kill, like “The Wind Cries Mary”. This better join Pink Floyd in the 4+ club. An A

Jimi, Mitch, and Noel were simply ahead of their time with this one. Innovative guitar playing, incredible drumming, expert songcraft, period-perfect production that holds up to this day – this record has it all. 5

Fire Risk the stick, bang the drums, pour up the stage and release the phoenix. Effect Hendrix, is when in this particular year (1967), music in general were meeting new ground and fortunately this become one of the most remarkable periods in music history. Despite the fact that Jimi and his Left-handed White Stratocaster changed the way of how to play this instrument, the band itself worked so great together without so much effort, acting like naturally. At first point that they place in their query upon the listeners, proving that answers to "if you have tried" something, no words needed, only real action. A

Excellent album full of classics

Pretty iconic
