How can there such great music and classic songs on 1 album. Jimi was a beast

I’m starting to think this Jimi Hendrix guy is good at guitar

Rock de Hendrix. Varios megahits. Vinilo.

Classic!

This album rules, plain and simple. It bends the mind with its hypnotic fusion of blues and psychadelics. A huge influence on the late 60s psych scene, and it still kicks ass today. Favorites: "Manic Depession", "Hey Joe", "The Wind Cries Mary", "Fire", "Red House"

10/10, one of the greatest musicians to ever live, one of the greatest albums you could ever hear

Great album!

Jim Hendrix is a god on guitar, there's no doubt there. It's nuts that this is his debut album, that his sound was so perfect right out of the gate. I like a lot of Hendrix's albums, but this one is my favorite.

Classique mais toujours incroyable

Moi j'aime bien faire de la guitaaaareuh Prefs: Foxy Lady, Manic Depression, Love or Confusion, I Don't Live Today, Fire, 3rd Stone From The Sun, Remember, Are You Experienced?, Hey Joe, Stone Free, Purple Haze, The Wind Cries Mary Moins pref: NADA

I don’t think I can put into words how much I like Jimi Hendrix. 5/5 - Absolutely phenomenal album

Hendrix was a talent beyond the hype. Amazing lyrics, hit the pop, and brought us to new places that still haven't been tapped today.

5.0 + Incredible. This one's arguably the most radio friendly of Hendrix's three great albums. Some of his explosive studio theatrics are evident on \"Third Stone From the Sun\" that sounds like soundtrack to a pulp sci-fi novel. But, really, these are well-crafted pop songs with exceptional guitar work, probably the best committed to record. So many radio mainstays here: \"Purple Haze\", \"Manic Depression\", “Hey Joe\" and \"Fire\" to name just a few.

This album sounds so great, and it is timeless. I still hear Jimi Hendrix's influence in all kinds of modern rock music. He was a genius, no doubt. Third Stone from the Sun is weird. Jimi was super cool though. Watching him perform is amazing, and I can only imagine how many more awesome performances he had left! This album receives a 5 solely based on the revolutionary guitar.

Not fair reading albums you loved before this list

'Foxey Lady' parte subito con molta carica, soprattutto sulla chitarra. Graffiante direi. D'altro canto qualsiasi cosa includa 'Purple Haze' guadagna almeno 2 punti.

A debut album by guitar legend Jimi Hendrix, 'Are You Experienced' is a revered hard rock record that some label quintessential. Hendrix's guitar ability can be considered to be unparalleled and unmatched - in 'Are You Experienced', his trademark playstyle of accentuated slide notes over thumb-pressed bass notes exemplify his excellence in instrument exploration. A fantastic album riddled with the likes of 'Purple Haze', with mighty impactful arrangements and impeccable musicality - this impact belongs not only in the 20th century, as even today Hendrix's inventiveness shines through the playstyles of other great guitarists.

One of my favorite albums ever. Jimi just gets it

The extended album with the first two singles and b-sides is superior. What's so special about Jimi is that his guitar playing still sounds extraordinary even now after guitar music has absorbed, copied and taken inspiration from what he did in the 60s. Another exceptional aspect to Jimi is his singing phrasing and vocal timing. I think he has a natural ability much like Sinatra's phrasing. It's very difficult to do a good mimic. What a talent. Great album - and it's a debut! Even the less well known songs are pretty good, albeit not legendary and so familiar.

We can all agree Purple Haze is canon, right? I realise yesterday I have Clapton and Bluesbreakers a proper coat down, but it's only because things like this exist. Then the anarchic glorious mess of Manic Depression, then Hey Joe. This is what blues rock SHOULD sound like. Exciting, thrilling, joyous. Love of confusion shows Hendrix's main talent. While other guitarists were still just happy to have electric guitars, and maybe distorting them a bit, he wants to experiment with every noise it can make, playing around with the pick up switches and all sorts to see what happens. May this be love is less exciting than the killer opening, but you almost need a break after that opening. I don't live today shows (though other earlier tracks have too) that this experimentation goes for the drummer as well (Chas Channing?) With some weird jagged rhythms making it a great bit of jazz/psych craziness. The Wind Cries Mary is just a beautiful song. One of the best ballads ever written. Then Fire which is pure fun. It's a great album. You can even forgive the overlong trad blues of Red House at the end, it almost feels like he's saying 'Yep, I can do this too!'.

Probably the best psychedelic rock album of all time. Favorite Track: Foxey Lady Relisten: Yes

Hendrix might be the best guitarist. I don't listen to this album nearly as much as I should.

I am experienced. Great album, one I already own.

I hadn’t sat and listened to this all the way through since I was a teenager, I think I like it even more now. With a Hendrix album you’re obviously gonna focus on the guitar performance , but the drumming on this thing is also fucking crazy 9/10

No misses. 10/10

Legendary collection of great songs!

I originally thought this was a greatest hits album when I was young, as 10 of the original 12 tracks were regular airplay on the radio. Great album, and you can tell thousands of artists since have been influenced or downright copied Joni’s style. Compare this to only musi that had been released at the time, and it’s significance really sets in.

front to back bangers that paved the way for more to come. Easy 5.

five stars

An absolutely legendary experience from the moment you punch play and get hit with that iconic opening riff of "Purple Haze" all the way to the closing solo of "Red House." There are few albums as stuffed with hits as "Are You Experienced" is. Every track is perfect, every lick is tasty, every song leaves you wanting more. What a beast of an album. What a legend of a musician.

Classic/10

Purple haze - one of my favourite songs. This is a great album

This debut album of the guitar god is an unbelievable treasure. It is full of classic rock songs ("Foxy Lady", "Manic Depression", "Red House", "I Don't Live Today", "May This Be Love", "Fire", "3rd Stone from the Sun", "Are You Experienced") and CD / USA reissues also contain the hit singles "Hey Joe" and "Purple Haze".

A downright extraordinary album. Jimi was insanely creative and talented, it's incredible!!

Also alle Studioalben von Hendrix in dieser Liste. Völlig ok, kann man nicht genug hören.

What an experience!

only knew a few of these songs, was great

Awesome

Classic

Jimi Hendrix's impact on the genre cannot be overstated. With his virtuosic playing, his onstage persona, and his experimentalism, he is the archetype for the rockstar. His debut opens with the career defining Purple Haze with its punchy opening riff and eastern influenced solo. Hendrix was not educated in music and this gave him the freedom to try things that others would not. Not every experiment was successful, and his lyrics often leave a lot to be desired, but his successes and innovation put him in the top tier of musicians and songwriters.

Crazy talented dude, a must listen for music enthusiasts

Perfect.

Undeniably revolutionary. Such blistering talent. Sometimes a bit noisy for my taste but who am I to argue.

Amazing debut album! Can’t just credit the amazing guitar work, it’s also the memorable musical themes, lyrics, rhythms and multi layers that make this so outstanding. Also got to credit Mitch Mitchell’s phenomenal drumming! I can just set this album on repeat and listen again and again and again.

Hendrix. The master. I have so many of his albums so trying to do this with any criticism is not easy. So, I tried something different and listened to the tracks in the order of the UK release. One complaint I can have with these songs that way is the lack of “Purple Haze,” which is rectified in the US release. The only other one is that the tracks don’t… flow into each other as much as they do on the US release. But that just may be because of how I am used to hearing it. So many of these songs were never done live. By the time he became big, he was not interested in these tracks anymore but that’s what the audience wanted to hear. I wonder how he would have felt about bands playing entire albums live. He probably would have been bored with it.

Would I dare rate this less than a 5? Nah, but I can understand if others think a 4 is enough. His guitar work is pretty amazing sometimes, and other times it gets lost in the equally as impressive percussion and bass work (e.g., Fire). Mitch Mitchell and Noel Redding are damn good too. I think you need to listen to the lesser known tracks (e.g., Third Stone from the Sun) to truly appreciate the greatness of his guitar playing ability. If you paid more attention to the popular tracks, you might be fooled into thinking "yeah, he's pretty good" and not more than that. Then again, that's probably if you came in knowing how good he was and said "prove it". With a more clean slate, you should be blown away by the whole "experience" - lyrics, singing, guitar, bass, drums.

There's not much to say about this album that hasn't already been said. I've loved it from the moment I heard it decades ago. Every track is great whether or not your listening to the US or UK version of the album. It's another masterpiece!

A stone-cold classic. Those first notes of purple haze. The main riff - I still remember how awesome it felt to play that main riff on guitar the first time. So many great tracks. Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell are great, but Jimi soars above it all. He's one of the greatest guitarists of all time and he made it look effortless. I need extra stars for this one because 5 stars doesn't cut it.

If you don't like this album, you are in fact not experienced

Turns out every music critic and 50+ years of pop culture were right. 5 stars.

Very solid album.

Easiest rating ever.

Scuse me while I kiss this guy. Awesome.

fantastic show of technical ability and groovy songwriting. iconic for a reason.

What. An. Album. Amazing guitar work, awesome bluesy rhythms and vocals, but also sounding ahead of its time. It's a real shame that Hendrix died as young as he did. (I kinda cheated with listening to this one, using tracks form both the UK and US releases. It would've been wrong to miss out on Red House, Hey Joe or The Wind Cries Mary.)

Best rock album ever

Come on man.... One of the greatest debuts of all time. How can this be anything but 5 🌟

Very good album. Go listen to it right now.

One of the greats at his best. A relaxing, rocking joy to listen to.

A masterpiece. Love every note.

Amazing guitar from Jimi here

Some of the best guitar work you will ever hear. It's really as simple as that. Hendrix's best album was this debut and it's about as perfect as a 60's rock album gets. It's thrilling, memorable and to this day still through and through so much fun to listen to.

Great album by one of the greats of all time!

Monumentales Gitarren-Album.

Top tier Hendrix. Some of the songwriting is still mindblowing.

Good stuff. Foundational album for any guitar player. There's always something new to notice. Decades later, it still sounds original

AMAZING

Of course. Paul Mike at the creek

Getting back to the ones I missed, Jimi rules! This album is special since, of the 493 albums in his discography, this is actually one of the two or three original albums!  It goes without saying that his guitar playing was pure magic. What really validates this is the accolades he got from really good guitar players of the day - like Clapton. They all wanted to see what Jimi was up to. The Who covered Hey Joe on their 1989 tour. Ok Pete had lost 80% of his hearing by then but still: Townsend playing a Hendrix song on a Clapton designed guitar - Fucking orgasmic!   While everyone knows Jimi, the drumming is quite good also. eg on Manic Depression.  Since I'm late getting to this one I'm not sure which version of the album you were given. I spun my vinyl which is the American version with Purple Haze. I think the European version did not have this. Hey Joe, Purple Haze, Foxy Lady. How is that not a 5? Might be a 4 if Purp Haze was not on the LP.  OK, Are You Experienced sounds dated+. I remember thinking that tune was dated in the 70s. But the LP's still a 5.

Never listened to it the full way through before; it has a incredibly contemporary sound, and still feels very fresh and prescient. Hendrix's guitar work is still clearly the standout here, but it's a surprise and a delight to hear the complexity in even the more simple songs. A+ and more than deserving of it's place along the historical continuum.

5 stars for wind cries mary

When I was young i got a free copy of a live version of this album on CD from the newspaper. A brilliant album that put music into a different trajectory. 5 stars.

Ah Jimi

Hendrix was really a shooting star. Just so much gold here with that special aspect of a consistent sound while also having variety in the songs

Sublime.

funky funky album. Hadn't really heard any of these except Purple Haze and Fire. Just an incredible talent.

el mejor guitarrista de la historia

Bloody marvellous

Classic rimed hi-jinx, I would almost rate the drum track 5 stars alone

Great album. Probably one of the best ever. Tough to beat Jimi's guitar and overall sound. Will never get old.

Of the albums on this list so far, I liked this the most. But I've always liked Hendricks, I had "Smash Hits" when I was in eight grade. I've heard some of these songs (probably) hundreds of times.

A true classic

Well, its simply the best isn't it. Wonderful guitar playing, riffs and solos. Smooth and sexy and feel-good and fucking cool. Right amidst a golden age of music writing

This is his debut album!! Insane

Excellent guitar play. Songs do sound the same and voices could have been more clear.

CLASSIC

Stone cold classic

Very good.

yes yes yes. frigging icon. this album is legendary and revolutionary in every way.

love this one

Listened to 01/12/21 Purple Haze was obviously a top hit... recognized it off the bat without actually knowing the name of it or that it was a Jimi song. Wind Cries Mary is probably my 2nd favorite after that one, and it was also a top hit from the album. I like the sound of Are you Experienced? as well. Seems like a song that could be sampled and probably has been. Remember is a song covered by Jack Johnson, and I didn't know the original was Jimi. Great song. Highway Chile had some great melody as well. Red House is an amazing song and great example of Blues/Rock & Roll that makes me realize why Jimi was regarded as the genius he was. Also, Third Stone from the Sun made me feel like I was on something...

yee boi. hendrix was something else

One of a kind. Crazy talent.

Just awesome, great songs

smoky riffy take on the blues. sounds great. fav track: the wind cries mary

Purple hazeeee heeeeyyy joeeds

It's a goooooood one. Not sure what else to say, just excellent guitar playing, singer, what a sound, boy oh boy.

Fantastic album. You have to like the sound, but it turns out that, this morning at least, I do. I didn't realize this was their DEBUT album, which makes it that much more amazing. Pretty easy 5 stars.

decent rock. classic music from one of the best

Album #117: Are You Experienced - The Jimi Hendrix Experience Genre (W): Psychedelic rock, hard rock, acid rock, blues Singles: Purple Haze I have listened to this album twice before. Thoughts?: Jimi Hendrix is an amazing guitarist and songwriter. I love how bizarre yet whimsical this album is. It’s amazing the production techniques used too! Favorite songs: Purple Haze, Manic Depression, Hey Joe, Love or Confusion, I Don’t Live Today, The Wind Cries Mary, Fire, Third Stone From the Sun, Foxey Lady, Are You Experienced?

The album has a number of great songs. It is also filled with some not so great songs. Overall, a good album, but not a great album.

Acid Kind of sags in the middle, but starts and ends strong

As the title says, this album intends to give the listeners the full Jimi Hendrix experience. And it does it nearly perfectly. Most tracks deliver. Forget the lyrics; they just carry the effects and melody. They support Jimi's excellent and unique guitar work, as do bass and drums. To some extend, this is also true for the production. He obviously liked (like in later albums, too) to experiment with the stereo effects, which is sometimes annoying. I'm a bit surprised that nobody commented on the strange production choices on Foxy Lady. All instruments in the center, and they sound like a mono recording, very flat. Then Jimi's voice on the left, noticably better sound quality, like the "chorus" on the right. I suspected some remastering changes or even enhancements made by Apple Music and/or the AirPod Pro3, but even the copies of Foxy Lady on YT show these "features". Nonetheless, still a very enjoyable album.

Oh phew it was showing me Elvis Costello at first. Another case of "do I like this because I want to or because I actually like it?" Fire is great and holds up. Third Stone From The Sun is great, just vibing, catchy melody. The reversed(?) drum pattern on *Are You Experienced?* is maybe the only time in music where I've ever thought "Hey, that doesn't sound like garbage!" which is great. I thought Stone Free was kind of whatever and then the "Turn me loose baby" guitar section redeemed the whole song. There were some times when I zoned out but no song overstays its welcome IMO.

wow this Jimi Hendrix guy is pretty good at playing guitar

Excellent psychedelic rock. Very good stuff.

Enorme

a very interesting album , maybe a bit too much stereo for me but that's a personnal preferenc,e idk if i'd litsen to it again but yeah i liked it

Excellent album. The wind cries Mary remains my favorite of Hendricks songs. Love his voice on that track. Manic Depression really lives up to the name. Sounds like what the inside of my head is like.

First time listening on wired headphones with lossless audio. Pretty mind blowing, especially hearing ambient stuff that sounded almost like something you’d have heard from someone like Panda Bear.

Great album, maybe harshly ranking it but there’s a few really irritating production choices on here.

Sure he can't sing that well. Sure the lyrics are a bit naff. But who gives a fuck, it's *Jimi Hendrix*. The Experience themselves are solid af, really let Jimi shine. Wizard with strings.

Purple Haze: 91 Manic Depression: 62 Hey Joe: 86 Love or confusion: 69 May this be love: 61 I dont live today: 72 Wind cries mary: 81 fire: 96 Third stone from the sun: 78 Foxey Lady 73 Are you experienced: 74 Stone free: 65 51st anverisary: 68 Highway Chile: 70 Can you see me: 75 Remember: 67 Red house: 69 Total: 73.94 = 74 = 7.4/10 = 3.7/5 = 4/5

Great album, hard to objectively rate as it so clearly formed the basis of so much music I listen to. SRV, JM and others scaffolding off of JH makes this album sound familiar in a brilliant way, need to be careful to treat this as an early walker when listening. Can't deny the voice and soul of JH with the grit of an old album.

Was not sure I was going to like this after all these years but it still worked and was still catchy.

Strong start. I got into it.

Pretty crazy this album is from 1967. Could pretty easily have been a band from yesterday. You can certainly still hear the resonances at the forefront of our music today. I'm not a hard rock guy or an extended electric guitar solo fanboy, so some of this isn't what I would choose to listen to in a vacuum, but there's still a ton of tunefulness and rollicking glee I can enjoy. Overall, an undeniable classic and I enjoyed hearing some of the deeper and album cuts you don't hear on the radio these days.

fuckin great

Although I would guess that Hendrix would have remained cool as a cucumber, the sessions that brought this album and the Experience’s first few singles into existence, read like a chaotic shambles, less than conducive to the creation of such a solid album. Chas Chandler working extremely close with Jimi on the production was at the same time negotiating by the seat of his pants, with scant finances and chancing his luck with studios. Hendrix, suddenly with the new additional task of songwriting on his plate, just rattles off classic after classic, from pop-chart bound nuggets to an (almost 7 minute) experimental workout “Third Stone from the Sun” that manages to maintain vitality and the listener’s attention throughout. There’s plenty of variety between those two extremes as well. Add to that the incredible musicianship on show from all three in the band and the result is a fantastic debut. The booklet in my reissue proclaims it as the “greatest and most influential debut album ever released”. To me the wording of this praise is unfortunate since it isn’t even true for the year 1967 (The Velvet Underground & Nico was released a couple of months earlier). Nevertheless there is no questioning the quality of Are You Experienced. They would improve upon it, but it’s a hell of a strong start.

Great album. The 3 of them were absolutely amazing with this album. I really enjoyed the creativity on their interaction with each other.

Such a good guitar player, but the music is just not me.

It’s a fun listen with many all time great songs. I have listened to all of Jimi’s albums in the past and probs put this as his best. I hadn’t listened to this in a while but it was better than I remembered.

I cannot imagine listening to this for the first time.

Confident with a bluesy swagger is how I'd describe Are You Experienced. Jimi knew what he was about and it's written across this record from start to finish, but therein lies the hidden problem. There are far too many tracks, with at least 5 that could've, and probably should've, been cut. Aside from the untrimmed fat, Hendrix and Co. delivered the goods. Fans of blues guitar can add a full point to my score.

Historic. The blueprint for every teenage boy's guitar hero fantasy. For me, the lesser known songs do fade into the background of noodling and 'YEEAYUH's, but the hits are huge.

It's an amazing album. Maybe a little long, but it's so good. The one thing that will always stand out when I hear and listen to Jimi is that tone. The tone on Are You Experienced is so perfect and no matter how many people try, that cannot replicate perfectly. Is The Wind Cries Mary Jimi's best song? I could make an argument for that. Is I Don't Live Today his least appreciated track? I think so. The one thing about this record, it seems like it could have been sequenced better. Third Stone from The Sun is probably the closer in my mind, but Are You Experienced could also fall in that category. When that's your only gripe, dealing with a pretty good album.

I really cant wrap my head around the fact that this album was made in the 60s. It truly is gate-opening, genre defining. It was softer than Electric Ladyland, that im on my way to update to 5 stars since it was my favourite, but it was the first album this site recommeded me so I didnt know where to stand.

This is such a great album for being a debut album. There are so many great songs.

ATTITUDEEEEE Brother attitudeeeeeeeee the guitars are really goooooood surprisingly sad lyrics ? it s interesting how introspective it is while also making social commentaries. Never would have expected it from this album. These seems to be a lot of questioning on what love is, and what it makes you do or feel. Is it really worth it or not. This seems to be a running theme, with it sometimes being a positive, sometimes being a negative. There s a recuring theme of sadness, wondering why we are alive. for how happy the visuals are, and how vibrant the music is, its really dark. It's like someone screaming in a colorful void. Its quite strange I definitly get the psychedelic vibe with the third stone from the sun Foxey is so funn We are back to cheating and running after love. I wonder what happened in his life for that to be such a big problem. There s a big emphasis on not being understood or heard or seen Red house OHHHHHHHHH the introoooo Damn what an album. i'm surprised i was able to stay focused the whole time !!! was really nice reading the lyrics with it too ------- This gave me a very different look to Jimi Hendrix. I usually associat him with the peace and love moubement and so I guessed his music would be about that and weed and partying. Not at all, it s an incredibly sad album, always juggling between the live of others and the love of oneself. There s an on going sense of isolation, a fear of not being seen and a fear of commitment with women. The riffs are of course amazing, the songs are catchy and fun to listen to but ya I was really surprised. I'm really struggling with the rating because yes I really like this album but I don't know if I love this album. Historically and for who the person is this definitely deserves 5 stars but I don't know if I'm gonna come back to it. I have been able to sit down the whole time and fully listen to it no breaks and that to me means something.

Some of this starts to sound the same- but it’s a great sound.

Great stuff. This is a weird comparison, but just like I prefer a lot of Pavement’s and Malkmus’ slower tracks, the slow ones on here have such great atmosphere. It is a bit long and it took me a while to finish it. 4.5

4/5. With this I have now had all 3 Jimi Hendrix Experience albums on the generator. And with all three albums being fresh on my mind, I actually think “Are You Experienced” is overall the weakest one. That being said all three of his albums are great, so it’s still leagues above many other records. And with hits like “Purple Haze”, “Fire” or “Foxey Lady” it’s some of the best psych rock of the 60’s.

Classic for a reason

Hendrix is never someone I’ve fully clicked with. But similar to Queen at the start of this project, I can’t deny the highlights of this album, even if I tend to find myself drifting off with some of the more noodly deep cuts. I did realize on this listen though that I do kind of fuck with the entire back half. Standout moment: The Wind Cries Mary. My favorite Hendrix song by some distance.

Classic. Enjoyed it.

Ahead of its time

Amazing

CLASSIC!!!

Probably the greatest guitarist of all time, claimed by the 27 club, alas.

Not bad at all

This was a great album, although not quite sure it should be considered one of the greatest of all time. Just didn’t differentiate itself enough from an average rock album for me to think that

Thoroughly enjoyable though not as well produced as Electric Ladyland which, for me, remains the better album. Still lots of great music here. I especially enjoyed Are You Experienced? 4/5

fireeeeeeee jimi has so much it factor

Groovy album to put on in the background and enjoy.

He knows time…..You know that one part in the Kerouac novel where he’s describing the sax player and he keeps saying he’s got IT and I didn’t know what it was…now I do! Jimi Hendrix has got IT

Listened to it while I was annoyed so idrk

Hendrix is insanely good on this. And there are way more tracks on this that I definitely knew and heard before, but did not know the title.

Jimi Hendrix started 1966 broke and facing eviction in NYC, in a band that (allegedly) sucked, and running out of professional options. He ended the year a rock star, living in a London flat owned by Ringo Starr, and being worshiped by every guitarist in Britain, including the likes of Clapton, Beck, and a very jealous Keith Richards. May we all have at least one fortuitous year like this in our lives.

An amazing guitar talent but I am not a huge fan of many of the songs on this album. 4 stars or B.

Loved the first jimi album so high hopes for this one. Opens with a banger in purple haze. Great guitar. Sound engineering is off. Vocals way too quiet. Much better on manic depression. This is a cool guitar riff. Very unique voice. Relatable song. Hey Joe is fine. Cool guitar as I would expect on all of these but not much more substance to it. Love or confusion is another one where the sound ratio between he guitar and vocals are off. Sick solo though. May this be love was fine. Forgettable. Good writing on I don’t live today. Really cool guitar again. The wind cries Mary is an awesome song. Love that jam band style solo. Fire is very 60s. Not my fave. Good guitar again tho. Third stone fork the sun is cool. More of the same. Maybe 3 mins too long. Cool guitar all the way at least. Foxeynlady is a banger. Not just the guitar this time. Whole song. Not a fan of are you experienced. Dated and nothing special about it. Cool guitar riff on stone free. Lyrics kinda bullshit. 51st anniversary is really cool. Much better vocals. Cool flow. Highway chile has nothing on voodoo chile but it’s a good song nonetheless. Great guitar. Real house is an awesome closer. What a guitar on this one. Save the best for last for sure. This is a really unique album aside from the other jimi album I heard. I like the first one better, higher highs on that one. This was still a really well made record tho. Easy 3.5/5.

Já ouvi várias vezes kkk

Very nice, not my typical type of music but I would definitely have it on in the background of a social gathering or while doing work :3

unreal!!!!!!!!!

Bastante rico y variado.

Manic depression is ace innit

An undeniable force of music creation. Would be 5 but it’s more of a personal preference as otherwise I see the greatness of this work

This is a hard one to rate for me. Purely because the name Jimi Hendrix was on the album i expected greatness, one of the best albums ever. And dont get me wrong, its not a bad album, but also not as amazing as his reputation made it out to be. This might be just because of my skewed expectations but if this album was made by anyone else i wouldnt mind it too mutch attention. Its good music, but it didnt match up to the hype in my opinion. Its like a 3.6 for me.

Razen ta vseh znanih, nism nič še Jimija raziskovala. In prva nepoznana je koj tadruga, "Manic Depression". Kul, všečna. Bobni so mi kle ful všeč (wiki pravi, 'jazz-influenced drumming'). Aaa, fak že prvi problem. Na Tidal mam North American verzijo albuma (kr naenkrat se je začel "Hey Joe"), namest originalno verzijo (kar ponavad hočem in stremim k temu, da poslušam original verzijo). Ok, ni panike, je zadnji komad na Tidal, ta k bi moral bit: "Red House" (I guess bom mogla bit ekstra pozorna in sama skrbet za originalni vrstni red... Ok, queue urejen.) "I Don't Live Today" je kul. "May This Be Love" je surprisingly chill. "Third Stone from the Sun" je nice - večinoma inštrumentalen, jazzy bobni set, mal psihadelike. Zadnji, "Are You Experienced?" je insane sounding & I guess for the time kr out there.

Listening on a good pair of headphones, the mix is all over the place. It's especially bad on May This Be Love. Apparently this was done on purpose? that's a shame. This is a 5-star album that gets brought down to 4 due to 1960s audio engineering choices.

This was extremely fire and fun to listen to

Gotta be honest, this is the first time I've gotten a household name that has truly lived up to their mammoth reputation

Really enjoyed this (as others have said, save for the misogyny). Always assumed a Hendrix album would be a sprawling mess of guitar solos but the songwriting and production is tight.

The misogyny makes this a more difficult listen these days but it is a great record. Four stars. Tom.

Love it

Even though much of this album sounds pretty same-y, there is no denying the talent. Quite pleasing to my ears as an album.

There is no denying that Hendrix is unmistakably great. There are great cuts on this album. However, as a whole experience (see what I did there?) it is not quite cohesive. Album is long and drags for me by the end. But as far as psychedelic music goes for the time, this is amazing hence this deserves 4 stars.

Oddly I have never listened to this record in one sitting. User error there. It's a banger

Look, it's one of rock's greatest albums, but it's almost unlistenable in 2026. You can't go a day without hearing Purple Haze in the wild somewhere, and the other songs are nearly as ubiquitous. Strip away the encrusted mythologies and you've got some good guitar work, some mild psychedelic experiments, and a lot of Boomer macho sexual smugness. The bonus track "Red House" is awesome though.

I am now experienced. And I liked it.

88/100. A groovy, energetic record packed with stunning guitar riffs and solos. It’s a brilliant showcase of Hendrix’s legendary musicianship. The vocals are solid too.

I used to not be the biggest Jimi fan, but he’s really grown on me. Great guitar work, obviously.

Now I’m experienced. WTF is foxy lady? I’m not so sure on that one… How did they make these sounds? Incredible. 1967? For realz?

No one does it like jimi

Classic...

Totalmente guardado

Bluesy rock (the kind I like) with amazing guitar playing. It was nice to get to listen to a good, high-energy rock n' roll album. There's some psychedelia mixed in, but not an overwhelming amount. The music was sonically interesting and engaging (especially while wearing headphones). All in all, a solid album that I understand all the hype and praises about.

No doubt, influential. Just not the kind of thing I love to listen to as much. 4/5

Gran álbum

Genuinely timeless album, not much more that I can say.

Great album, iconic guitar sound and a great representation of blues-rock.

I wish I could give it 4 1/2. It was really good!

While (rightly so) Jimi gets all the attention for his skill, the rest of the band has a lot of talent as well and are able to match Jimi and create some truly amazing songs. It's an enjoyable listen and some deep cuts in there as well.

Great album, great musician, I loved it

I knew more than I expected to. May This Be Love was my favourite.

GALING HAHAHAHARSEDFUGIJIHSRDFGKHn

Had to knock it down a star since it killed the Oilers five game win streak. Not my favorite, but I mostly get it. Unlike jazz.

feeling cultured, i like this one

I love the rock vibes in this album, it’s very much what I listen to currently and it has a beachy tone to it that I love too.

I did not think i would enjoy this album but BWOAH this is so good. I love Joni’s vocal tone. Out of the albums that i have listened to so far, i will definitely revisit this one often

Fantastic. Very surprised how many great songs were on this album

Classic Highlights: Purple Haze, Manic Depression, Hey Joe, The Wind Cries Mary, Foxey Lady, Stone Free, Can You See Me and Fire. 4.6

With a name like the Jimi Hendrix experience, I assume he is the lead singer? Whoever that lead guitarist is, man they are incredible. I hope they have a long and prolific career ahead of them.

Honestly there's probably a couple tracks they could cut and it's an easy 5. So many classics on here. The album opens so strong, it's in the back half that it starts to lose a little steam.

Fantastic, of course. I was obsessed with this 25 years ago. Amazing how much difference a decade makes between Little Richard and this.

I came into this clueless. Super unexpected, 10/10

Pretty cool, not my favorite tho. Just wasn't really feeling the mood

Born more than a decade after Jimi's passing, and on a different continent, I was never really exposed to his music until the inevitable late-teen-experimental-phase. Blew my mind. This was a wonderful reunion with some great songs. The Wind Cries Mary is a beautiful song.

A mí gato le puse Jimi por él.

All I’m expecting out of this is some sick guitar. Purple haze, Manic Depression, they don’t miss. Kind of feel like I’m listening to the vocals through some sort of distortion, but the guitar and instrumentation makes up for it. I own a Hendrix guitar pick, but until now I’ve never listened to any of his stuff. Hey Joe was slightly more mellow, but I enjoyed it all the same. Love or Confusion has a great flow. May this be Love was sweet. I don’t live today was pretty good. I liked the guitar at the end. The Wind cries Mary had some good ideas to it! Fire was super awesome. Some may say… Fire. Third stone from the sun, for an interlude, worked. Foxy Lady was cringe, but a bop nonetheless. The title track was cool, and Stone Free was a bop. 51st anniversary was a delight to listen to. Highway Chile was awesome. Can you see me was so much fun, and Remember was very heartfelt. Red house closed very nicely, and almost made me fall asleep. It had such a nice melody to it. 4/5 ⭐️ 88/1089

STRONG four stars for me. There are songs I really like (2, 3, 5, 8 are my favorites) but I can't really enjoy listening all the way through. I don't know if its too long or I don't like listening to blues/rock enough. Needless to say, there's fantastic musicianship, creative songwriting, expressive vocals. I think if it were closer to 30 minutes I would be all for the album

niceshaggy 8/10

great album overstimulation station (lp)

Great album

oh god i miss dropping some acid hate that you have to press save everytime you write something crisp sound, huge drums, underrated vocals and timeless guitar tone, maybe a bit homoheneous, undeniable classic record

solid album, but i preferred Electric Ladyland

It took me a while to feel like I had listened to the whole album. Which is largely my fault for being so distracted. But also does feel indicative 😔

Great album!!!

fav: the wind cries mary, red house

Don’t know that every Jimi Hendrix track is a hit for me, and I’m not always huge on his vocals, but this is clearly an incredibly important record that was far ahead of its time.

side A legendary and impeccable. why did i find side B less interesting and more repetitive tho? i would like it in my collection but i don't know how often i'd listen to the full EP

third stone from the sun guitar solo at 1:20 is so fking good idk why i'm so obsessed w it vibes r so good with this album i love it

I never cared for Hendrix’s voice. Irregardless, this is a landmark in instrumentation and psychedielia - as a three-piece, no less.

To me it is clear that this is THE Jimi Hendrix album with the most bangers, many of them all time standards that get played constantly: "Purple Haze", "Hey Joe", "Fire", and "Foxy Lady". The performances and song arrangements are so strong that you don't need to pay attention to the lyrics at all in order to enjoy the album. Hendrix was really lucky to get Mitch Mitchell, whose drumming could hang with Hendrix's improvisations. I am also of the opinion that the track order of the first 11 tracks from the Deluxe version is the best track listing, with the most flow. I already had the 4 singles in my library, but after today's listen I added "Manic Depression" and "May This Be Love".

Interesting that this has two different versions like Pokémon. This rating is based on the US version. Hendrix's guitar, which I guess is the selling point of this album based on Wikipedia, adds to the atmosphere of this record. It's a shapeshifter, at times melodic and rhythmic. The guitar sound is like prophetic too. The distortion reminds me a lot of 90s grunge and alt-rock. And the way A.Y.E. switches between psychedelic rock, blues, and experimental guitar grooves! Jimi makes it look easy. I totally mischaracterized his music from the 2-3 songs I heard from him. Listening to A.Y.E. in full, he oozes charisma with the skills to back him up (but maybe that's also because of his legendary status at this point)! (4.5)

Would it be horrible of me to make a jojo reference? I imagine it would get tedious at some point. i fear it would never end. I really liked Manic Depression! this may be intentional but I feel like Jimi Hendrix's voice is just. really quiet compared to the instrumentation? not a bad thing, just took a sec to get used to. some really cool guitar stuff happening here. but, again, it's jimi hendrix. I also liked Love or Confusion and Stone Free. 51st Anniversary is also good. yeah! liked it! you did it jimi hendrix (thumbs up)

Hats off to Mitch Mitchell

I think my mind would be blown if I would listen to Hendrix in the 60s.

Album #93 The Jimi Hendrix Experience: Are You Experienced? This album has loomed over me for some time as the most classic album that I have ever listened to. I’m not sure why, since I have loved multiple songs from it for quite some time, and I have even determined it to be the most essential album that I haven’t heard, and yet I have never put it on. Perhaps I’ve always just been worried that an hour of 60s guitar heavy psych would be too much for me, and I wanted to live in a world where I can still be considered a Jimi Hendrix fan. After listening to this album, my fears were well-intentioned but ultimately misguided. This album is home to, of course, multiple classic rock tracks such as “Hey Joe” and “Purple Haze”, but it also keeps you engaged by mixing in a few experimental and heavier songs such as “Third Stone From The Sun” and “Are You Experienced?” One thing that can’t be said about this album is that it is boring. No matter what you look for in music, there is enough skill on display in this album to present you with at least something interesting. I actually almost like Jimi as much as a vocalist as I do a guitarist. I find his vocals to have such an empowering sense of sincerity behind them that every line he sings feels important. I’m glad to have finally put this album behind me, though it didn’t quite live up to the reputation that it held in my mind; I was still thoroughly impressed and entertained throughout. Best Songs: Hey Joe, Purple Haze, Are You Experienced?, Remember, Red House Worst Song: 51st Anniversary Score out of 10: 8.5

Great. Great great great

I mean there’s a reason he’s always thought of as one of the coolest musicians ever. Just super cool stuff. Also the further I get away from 27 the more insaaaaane it is that he and so many others were that bloody young when they died and had such impact.

Excellent.

I always think of this as the weakest of the 3 Experience albums but I think that's just because I've heard half of these songs a bazillion times. When you actually listen to them all with distance though it's like , yes, these are all fantastic. 'Third Stone From the Sun' in particular is just a crazy thing to exist.

jimi hendrix an the experience band at there best and i can't believe its there debut studio album, absolute musical genius people.... Hey has to be my favourite, Purpule Haze is the all time best one.... But the song "Third stone from the sun" is the one that got me the i don't I guess guitar melody or Rhythm at the 43rd second in the song is amazing atleast for me. overall best Jimi Hendrix Legend himself.

Legendary hard rock and one of the most well known albums out there, it's easy to listen and rock out to. Cool and great energy with amazing songs all the way.

Classic.

Was groovie, felt very rock, Nice Audio, great melody

Unfortunately I listened to this album in two parts with like 2 weeks of pause in between, so I had kinda forgotten parts of the first half I had listened. Overall I like the sound of Jimi Hendrix and the style of music there was on this album. I could see myself listening to it again whole at some point.

Jimi Hendrix isn't an artist I've given a huge amount of time to, despite the fact that I've always known him as one of the greats. For me, personally, this album is pretty enjoyable background, there's some awesome guitar licks and just overall musically it's great. There's some great blues sounds, and it's solid rock. I don't particularly like Jimi's vocals - they're not bad just not my taste. Undeniable talent, a solid hour of it is too much in one go for me (there's just nowhere near enough variety in instrumentation), but I could happily listen to any of it again. Low 4.

4 - another Jimi so quick??? Oh Darn (sarcasm)... Fav songs: May This Be Love // Hey Joe // Third Stone From The Sun

Jimi is obviously one of the best guitarists ever. I enjoy the more "traditional" music on this but not so much the "experimental" stuff. Overall I like it.

Another good debut album. Lots of great tracks. Sounds great for 1967

FIRST REVIEW// HONESTLY GREAT RECOMMENDATIONS-- is Jimi the greatest guitarist ever? 02.27.26 Today was a chill day at the crib... late night with Leo last night watching get out at UCLA and today thriving off the possibilities of my future LOBO New tracks of interest-- may this be love... the wind cries Mary...

Classic songs.

Favorite Track: Manic Depression

Not my type of music, but this is a near perfect album: a barrage of hit after hit, guitar playing is on point without excessive noodling.

Really good, so classic. 4/5

Pedazo de álbum. Blues. Rock.

"Are You Experienced" mixes blues roots with acidic, psychedelic rock. The guitar shifts between traditional bluesy vibes and more experimental, distorted sounds, giving the album its identity. The sequencing is well done, and the record truly feels like an experience, immersive and distinctly psychedelic. Even tied to its era, its artistic value is clear and it remains a strong listen.

Pure class but not the best album

Really good album - 4 of last 6 tracks didn’t feel as strong to me, but a strong 4 star with some outstanding tracks

2/23/26: a couple iconic songs here. 7/10

"May This Be Love" es de mis canciones favoritas.

Vintage Hendrix. Super bluesy and groovy. Fave song: Hey Joe

🎸🤘

Fantastic boomer with a bench press in his garage music (in a good way)

Incredible

not my favourite hendrix record but like, come on

Grew up absolutely hating Jimi Hendrix's music. 30 years later, I revisited it, and I came away enjoying it far more than I expected. There are a few songs that I didn't care for much, but the great songs were truly amazing.

8/10. Great artist.

What an experience!

I enjoyed Hendrix songs in an album more than a one-off single played here and there on the radio. Possibly his music needs to standalone for me. It’s another I will add to “purchase” list.

Listened to the '97 US/UK version.

The man was a genius.

Is it fully my thing? Nah. But there are a bunch of incredible songs and some of the most forward-thinking production ever.

Listened to OG. Rocks

Not really my kind of music but the talent is undeniable

Loved this and timely to listen to it before Act 3!

God klassisk rock, lækkert hele vejen igennem med flere stærke sange. Særligt gode sange: - Purple haze - Manic depressions - Hey Joe - I don't live today - Red House

Classic rock!!

love Jimi Hendrix ❤️ have never listened to the album completely through but enjoyed it.
