Average 60s psych pop. Lots of harmonies which is the only good part of the album.
Absolute classic, has so many different genres in the one album and not a bad song on it
Opening track starts off with some crazy guitars. Reeds vocals takes a bit of getting used to.
New York telephone conversation is a dumb track, kills the flow of the album and makes me want to skip
First track opens the album perfectly, from there you can’t stop tapping your foot or dancing. The entire album is part soul and part funk, full jam band with 6 songs topping out at 44 minutes.
Maybe the album hasn’t aged well but it was just bland and not interesting at all, the most middle of the road music
Amazing singer and some nice happy songs but it sounds like the band were playing the same tune for 3 songs
The album that changed sampling forever. The beats is pretty much entirely made of sampled music and definitely a turning point in hip hop, also can’t beat the harsh vocals of Ad Rock, Mike D & MCA
Got 3 tracks in and remembered why I hate Radiohead
One of my all time favourite albums, mixing metal and rock into one big sludgy goodness.
It’s definitely not a happy album but that adds to the appeal, from Layne’s haunting vocals to Jerry’s doomy guitars makes for an album that’s perfect for a dark day.
Feel like The Minutemen is more influential and this is a continuation of their (and Mike Watt’s) legacy.
Definitely hear how much of an inspiration to 90s alternative and even to some of the early 00s indie bands
Australian early 2000s garage rock revival, similar to Jet & NZ’s Datsuns.
It’s a good album with some good songs but wouldn’t really say it’s an influential or important album. Feel like there’s better Australian rock from that time
1970s blues inspired rock, I think bands like Jethro Tull, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, ect really inspired the hard rock/heavy metal wave that followed. This album stands out from the “Masters Of Reality” & “Led Zeppelin II” because of the flute work by the vocalist Ian Anderson.
U2s sound is always evolving and this is one of the U2 albums I remember hearing growing up before I had an appreciation of their music.
The album is full of great songs and shows that U2 have changed with the times, gonna knock a star off for the whole iTunes album tho
Was pleasantly surprised he had more songs than Copperhead Road. I haven’t listened to much country so can’t say if this is influential or not, all I know is it was a good album.
Hearing Little Rock N Roller after hearing about his sons death is pretty rough
I’m not a fan of Radiohead and quite frankly I don’t know how they’re so big. About a week ago my daily album was Hail To The Thief and thought it sucked. The Bends however was less whiny and had crunchy riffs so that was a plus for me.
Personally not a fan of jazz in general but I did enjoy the drums & what sounded like guitar, was a change up from the standard horns, drums & piano.
Pretty influential to bands that I enjoy tho so the albums spot on the list is correct.
For me it’s a case of “just because you can doesn’t mean you should” I feel like this & GNR’s Use Your Illusion 1 & 2 could’ve been single albums.
This album does have some great songs tho, ultimately think that Stankonia should be on this list instead
It’s early 2000s garage rock revival which is rad but I just really can’t get into the band due to the vocals, doesn’t fit right with my ears
Sounded like a bad ska band trying to make a talking heads album. I didn’t really “get” it but know that Eno is super influential to others
MJ was a weird dude, but this album is really good. Can tell it’s the start of something massive
I left the room to wash my hands and when I came back they were still playing the same note.
Nostalgia is a hell of a drug. This “concept album” made me just feel like listening to the Beatles
Felt too happy, I’m glad the Stones stole R&B & the Beatles did psychedelics so rock music evolved past this
If will smith wasn’t corny he’d be in Jurassic 5
Can definitely see why this album is in the list. Sounds super like the indie rock bands from the early 2000s.
One riff even sounded straight out of a Bloc Party album. The Jam is definitely superior influential
Super cheesy glam rock. Is it super influential? No. Is it a good listen? Hell yes
Nice inoffensive background music
Campy Rocky Horror picture show greatness
Such a great 70s soul album. “So in love” is my favourite Curtis Mayfield song
An iconic album but not the best punk album by far.
It feels like the first step into punk and the only reason why it’s so well loved is because of nostalgia. They weren’t a punk band, they were just a bunch of posers hopping on a trend
Didn’t know any of Badu’s music before listening to the album so was pleasantly surprised. Really cool soul album.
The album that spawned an entire genre, this album is all killer no filler.
Pat Smear’s howling guitars, the super tight rhythm section and Darby Crash’s vocals are absolute assault on the ears.
I could’ve gone the rest of my life without listening to this. This album is hardly influential, a one hit wonder that should’ve been left in the 90s
This is like a gateway drug, everyone listens to slipknot then they realise that there’s better metal bands.
Corey’s vocals are all round lame, the screaming is just hard enough to be “hard” but not too hard for precious radio. His singing voice sounds like ever other butt rock band from the early 2000s
Nice unoffensive early listening. Not sure if I’ll listen to it again but wasn’t the worst on this list
The Beatles when they started to get experimental. How good
Never heard this before but really enjoyed it. Super keen on listening to more of it
Ehh. Nothing that spectacular, hardly seemed like it was a life changing album
Not as good as their second album but still a great album. An essential britpop/indie rock slbum
Ahh good old Shady. Lyrics written with the intent to piss off your parents and instrumentals done by Dr. Dre. Anything that man touches is gold.
Talking heads are great & this album just reinforces it. Combining sounds from a wide array of genres to make their own unique sound.
I’m a fan of modern Electronic music so this is the band that influenced the bands that influenced my favourite artists
Just meh, vocals sounded bored and they wanted this album to be background music
Not as fast as their earlier albums but still great. Changing up their song is one of the more punk things they could do!
This is one where you gotta review the art not the artist. Such an influential & great album, really shows Kanye’s skills as a producer.
Sounds like the soundtrack to a coming of age movie
Nothing grabbed my attention. Just felt like nice inoffensive background music you’d play at a mall or something
Silly hat man makes funky music
One review says “But just imagine having a relaxing evening in your renovated villa, pulling up a kitchen stool, pouring a glass of pinot gris and enjoying the heck out of this classy album.” I can’t relate to this at all. Man this album just doesn’t have anything that jumps out to me. It just sounds like one continuous song
I listened to this & suddenly I was wearing a suit. What happened to my work uniform?
it’s not as good as 2001 but still one of the essential west coast rap albums
This was a punishing listen. I found it hard to understand the lyrics due to the high pitched vocals.
It’s a jam band. It’s meant to be long & wild. Hell yeah
“Hey mum, can we get the band?”
“We have the band at home”
The band at home
Sounds like a even more bland Coldplay
Meh. Watered down prog for the mainstream
The info for this album said it was punk & country. Just because you suck at making music doesn’t make you a punk band.
Really thought the bad fake American accents were a really great touch.
Meh, forgot it was on. It’s just bland & doesn’t have anything that stands out
Yes Brian Warner is a weird dude. Look at him how could you not see he was a crooked individual, he’s the Alice Cooper of the 90s but was definitely carried by the production.
Trent Reznor is incredible as always, makes me want to listen to Nine Inch Nails instead.
Mr. Blindside is the white person anthem
Butt rock. Reminds me of the “tough” bands people used to listen to in high school.
If football hooligans in stupid raincoats played Beatles songs
The birth of heavy metal. Hell yeah
Bubblegum 60s pop but honestly not the worst of them
The band that spawned the garage rock revival
It’s barely classified as music, I loved it
Meh. Hasn’t really aged well, just sounds like the beach boys
Sounds like if late 90s U2 made country
Music made by smart guys but played by idiots. Love it
Great song to mime playing bass to
Nirvana at its rawest & finest
Such a middle of the road album. definitely nowhere near the best album of 2018.
Why is there so many meh albums from British bands on this list?
This sounds like an entire band falling down stairs, but they keep playing.
Interesting hearing old electronic music but man this hasn’t aged well
Real middle of the road super forgettable music.
The Mayo of music
Looking through my album history I noticed that last week I missed Vol 4 by Black Sabbath so I listened to that instead.
Vol 4 : 5 stars, sabbath helped create so many genres of music
The Wall: 2 stars, classic rock station classics.
Cars Are Cars sounds like a kids book narrated over a drum machine.
Only slightly more appealing than listening to an actual furry.
The most blandest shit I’ve heard. I could eat plain white bread with nothing on it & it’ll still be less bland than listening to this album
Simon & Garfunkel having interludes in their albums, do they think they’re the Wu-Tang Clan or something?
Vocalist went to the Bob Dylan singing school for the deaf
Did the British government pay the authors of this book?
If Geddy Lee from Rush made 2012 hipster music
There’s only two possible explanations as to why this album is on this list:
Someone in this band has naked pictures of the author & blackmailed him
Or a warning as to why too much acid is a bad thing
I listened to this album & I grew a beard, somehow I also now own a motorcycle.
It’s a solid blues album featuring Rod Stewart on vocals. Can’t really see how groundbreaking this album is though
