It was listenable but nothing really stood out. I think if I paid more attention to the lyrics there might be something striking but 60s protest music doesn't really excite me. Musically, meh but not bad.
This was a pleasant surprise. I'd never heard of the band but really enjoyed the album. The guitars made the album for me. Progressions were a bit unusual but didn't feel weird at all. Albums almost 50 years old but doesn't sound dated at all. Friction and Torn Curtains were my favorites.
I had no clue who these guys were even though the album is < 15 years old. 10 seconds in I thought I would hate it. Then, the rhythm changed and I got drawn in. As a rule I typically hate jam bands, and these guys are a modern, harder version of the dead, but I found this album strangely listenable. In the end I found myself going back and listening a second time. I still much prefer music you would see played in the dark. But if I had to watch a concert in the light of day, I could do worse than White Denim.
Truly unremarkable. Plenty similar music of this style that I'd prefer to listen to. Not sure why this made it on any "must listen to" lists
According to Wikipedia this is supposed to be some groundbreaking album. But nothing of this genre appeals to me so big deal. To be honest, this isn't even a good representation of electronic music. The singer on the album had a nice voice I guess.
Enjoyable listen. I played it as background throughout the day but when I tuned in the lyrics were interesting. Definitely more musical than most songs in this genre. I don't think it'll be on my normal rotation but if I ever want a good vibe in the background this album would hit the spot.
Perfectly acceptable album. Legalize It (the song) is the best one and obviously most well known but catchy enough to have in the rotation. Rest of the album pretty unremarkable but you could do far worse. Especially if I'm on a beach sipping on something.
Definitely some things to like about this album. Energetic songs and enough hooks to keep things interesting the whole album. No song really stood out to me but there weren't any duds on a first listen. I've got a rate a 3, but 3.49999999 would be more appropriate.
It was ok, but certainly not my favorite stones album. Songs were ok one at a time but not a lot of distinction. Basically an album of deep cuts. I think this appeals to the hardcore stones fan but I'm good with a greatest hits album and skipping the filler.
Glad this came up after a bunch of average albums. Great stuff as expected by the talking heads. Take me to the river is the best track but everything jams out. I could have this on all day.
Pretty good moody music. It would resonate well with a sad mood. Not the headspace I'm looking for but they pull it off well. Enjoyed the guitar tone and enough energy/heaviness to keep listening.
Classic zeppelin. I first listened to this album on my first flight to Japan 20 years ago. Something about this album captures the feeling of flying over the middle of nowhere to some mysterious place. Weird place and weird week. Zeppelin 3 is the soundtrack of that feeling for me
Solid early hardcore punk.
It's a classic, no questions 5. The songs are so overplayed but who cares, they're great.
Singles like lovesong are pretty good but most of the album is gloomy filler with Robert Smith whining about turning 30. Don't get me wrong, it's not bad, but I can't listen to it with a straight face.
Only listened to the first 5 tracks. I liked it. Super weird but it had a soul and rhythm I could zone out to. I'll give it another listen sometime and see if it's a grower of it just caught me on a good day.
I didn't like anything about this album. The songs weren't catchy, beats weren't original and listening to the entire album was a chore.
Classic album. Always loved playing this hungover the next morning.
Hadn't heard this one before. Took me some time to get used as it had a soulless, bougie sound. Buuuut, it grew on me. Very chill vibe and enough musicianship to keep it interesting. Couldn't justify a 4, but it was close.
I found nothing redeeming in this album. The songs were bland and purely annoying. I have no clue why this album is considered important in anyway.
I like Prince and Purple Rain is a masterpiece. It's a bit over the top and I think you need to be in the right mindset to really get into it. I was not digging Prince yesterday. Perhaps a different day and it's a 5.
One of my all time favorites. Enjoyed today's listen thoroughly. The entire album is bangers and I don't need to skip any tracks. It's a perfect blend of weirdness, hardness, and listenability. After this album, these guys could've been huge. They went in another direction and kudos for artistic integrity. But this album is a true classic.
It's beautiful music. Not my vibe but I did enjoy it's quality. Don't know if I'll ever listen to it again but at least I know it's out there.
A lot of classic, but well overplayed songs here. When I'm 64 makes me laugh a little because, well, 64 doesn't seem that far away anymore.
It's love making music, so pop a few Viagra and have a blast! If you're not otherwise occupied it can get a little boring but overall not bad.
Really surprised how much I enjoyed the album. Very bluesy but a bit faster and heavier. Jesus Just Left Chicago was my favorite but entire album was enjoyable. Will listen again.
I really wish they didn't put jazz on this list. Yes, it's an album but I can't rate it the same way I'd rate a rock or pop album. Musicianship is solid, rhythm is complex, and if I was in the right mood and wanted to zone out for an hour I might love it. But I didn't have the time today and found listening to be a chore. Which is a shame. I'll give it a 4, but really needs an N/A
Much better than I feared. Didn't care much for Fred's voice but the tunes were interesting. The chord selection sometimes felt like something Beck would play.
Don't mind that it's weird, but the album never feels like it lands anywhere. There are many elements of something good here but nothing that would compel me to listen again.
I wanted to hate this album. I hate the album title, and I hated the pretentiousness of the few songs I had heard previously. First couple tracks confirmed my distaste but once I got to Exiles things turned around. I actually liked Easy Money. And rest of the album was enjoyable. I can hear the sounds of many of my favorite bands in this album.
Classic album. Catchy songs. Not a lot there but the vibes. And the vibes are good. Perfect album to get my mind on warner weather.
The artist may have been unhinged but these songs were really good. War and Peace stood out to me in particular. I wish this album would've gotten the production quality it deserved but glad I got to hear it overall.
It's a fun listen. Didn't mind it as background music driving around all day. Cheesy without going overboard. But there's a ceiling to instrumental soundtracks.
Yup - still great after 30+ years. Played this in the car with my daughter singing along. Life is good. 5*
Probably the best hip hop album I've heard. No duds the entire album. I'll be playing it again.
Bland songs. Nice voice. This didn't move the needle for me.
Not bad but mostly felt like generic whiny British 80s music. I'll forget this one.
Didn't enjoy this one much at all
I actually liked this better than Marvin Gaye. Just because the instrumentals were more interesting. Nice album for a long drive but did get repetitive ultimately
Quite enjoyable. I thought I'd get tired of her voice but it wasn't the case. And the instrumentals were great. Good dynamics, solos, etc... I'd listen again
Cringiley painful. Don't see how this album belongs here
Good guitar sound and choice of chords. The songs were a bit short (yes I know it's a punk album) but I just felt there was something missing.
Loved the loose energy on this. Crazy sax parts. Hard to imagine anything else sounded much like this in 1970. Would've loved to catch a show at the blind pig.
I liked it. Gloomy but not whiny. Sometimes a bit repetitive but overall enjoyable.
Probably my favorite dead album. Sugar Magnolia, Ripple, and Truckin' are my favorites but solid throughout.
Enjoyed the album more than I thought I would. Lyrics were a bit too cracker barrel, but otherwise the songs were good. Traveling Man and Here I Am were highlights for me
The singles were pretty good, but songs got pretty bad toward the end. Cheesy early 90s music, but George can sing
Pretty good for a cheap casio keyboard. Tolerable for 5 minutes but an entire album is a stretch.
Sunday Bloody Sunday and New Years Day are hits, rest of the album unremarkable but ok.
America and Mrs. Robinson the obvious highlights. Actually surprised the album mostly dragged otherwise. 60s...
I really, really, really don't care for Morrissey. For the most part the album was ok if I didn't focus on the whiny lyrics.
Ultimate 70s cheese and I am here for it. It's stupid, but it works.
Kind of like a British take on grunge? I liked it a lot. Great chord progressions and tons of energy. The falsetto is a bit much, but overall excellent.
Can't get into solo piano. It's not bad and I can see why someone might really like it. Just not my style.
Pretty unremarkable. There were a few good tracks but felt like something was missing. I also hate Brass in Pocket.
I liked With or Without You but the rest of the album just ok. Stuff that's radio friendly but doesn't really hit. I get it, they're a huge band and lots of people love them but I just can't get into the music.
Not a bad track on the album. I think it would be even better live
Cinnamon girl, down by the river, and the last track were pretty good, but not great. The rest was filler. Not my favorite neil young album.
Not feeling this one today. Boring and unremarkable.
Solid throughout, though a bit too folk-y toward the end. Guitarwork was excellent. Not a big fan of political lyrics but I mostly tune out the words. I suspect I won't remember any of the tunes long term but it was a good listen.
It's like really good vanilla ice cream
Can't believe I hadn't heard this before. Thrashier version of old school Metallica. This is a classic and going into the rotation ASAP
I have a soft spot for the satanic schtick and operatic metal. Almost a 5 for me but happy with a solid 4.
At it's best, this album is pure sunshine, but with so many songs it's hard to keep the energy. Still pretty solid listen.
Heard a lot of Dylan in this.
Really enjoyed it. Quick songs.
A couple good tracks but some atrocious ones mixed in.
One of my favorites of the era and all time for that matter. Like a doomy version of zeppelin. Chris Cornell can wail.
Expectations were low but this album far exceeded them. Kinda reminds me of a female Iggy pop.
Perfectly reasonable radio friendly album. No filler. Also nothing special here. On tothe next one.
It was mostly ok. I liked parts of songs but they didn't seem to land anywhere.
Very good. Listened to it twice. Reminded me of tribe called quest but edgier.
Solid but probably twice as long as it needed to be.
Half the songs are classics, other half solid. Great album. Love the organ solos, riffs, and bass.
The good parts outweighed the bad parts. Weird but tied together enough to be enjoyable. A poor man's David Bowie if you will.
Not my favorite stripes album but good nonetheless. Blue orchid one of my all time favorites
This is awful sappy shit that somehow is popular enough I recognize it easily.
Blended right into a long Sunday drive
So many catchy songs on this album. A bit on the bizarre side but it worked.
A few catchy tracks. I can see the appeal but overall not for me
Tiring. A lot of energy but the songs don't hit.
Lot of new to me songs on this. Catchier than some of the other albums I've heard and enjoyed playing it on a car ride. Would listen again
Track names get 6 stars. This one came out of nowhere but it's great. All bangers
Pure 80s extract. Wasn't as bad as I feared but really belongs in a time capsule.
Solid album. Better than what I remembered 30 years ago.
Emo Bruce Springsteen. A few legit good songs but way too much empty bits. They probably have an excellent album in them. This wasn't it
Almost a guilty pleasure but too dramatic for my tastes. A lot to like, but honestly feels a bit cringey.
It's unusual and breaks all my rules about what albums should qualify but I actually enjoyed the songs.
Nostalgic butt rock. Not breaking new ground here but it's fun!
Great album. Used to hate geddy Lee's voice but used to it by now. Will listen again
Never cared for whatever I heard on the radio but as a whole this album was quite good. Just needed some patience and a good set of headphones.
Couldn't get engaged with it. I liked the dark nature of the songs but I don't think they were actually good songs. But it does seem like an album that might be better after another listen
She's good, but other than Hello and the last track all the songs sound the same. Enough Adele already!
Every song sounded the same.
I listened to it. It wasn't bad but pretty uninteresting. I guess it would've been cool compared to other stuff of the time. Didn't realize this was a Neil Young band so that was neat.
All bangers. Eddie Van Halen + David Lee Roth classic combo. Put butt rock on the map!
I liked the faster paced songs. The slower ones just dragged. Ooh Las Vegas was pretty good.
Courtney love is a silly parody of something, but Hole makes some good songs. Still solid after all these years.
Couldn't get into this one. Pleasant background music
I could've given a 4 but there were too many not good tracks. Thriller was way better
Better than I thought. Pretty basic songs but enough energy to keep it interesting.
Good vibes with this one. Songs a bit to lengthy but good summertime album.
Good album. Breaking the Law is an all timer but not too much.of a drop off. Rob Halford is a bit gimmicky, but hey - it's heavy metal.
It's an album I can listen to effortlessly. Life on Mars is one of my favorites but everything was above average. Best week of albums, let's keep it up tomorrow
Surprised how much I liked it.
Fun and catchy with plenty of hooks. Better than most of the new wave crap we've had to suffer through.
