Fun
good first album.
Overall inoffensive with a couple of actually cool songs in there. About a minute through Take Me Out I was like "oh hey the groove changed to something cool right th- OHHHHH THIS SONG I SAY DONTCHA KNOWW". Hadn't thought about that song since I was a wee lad, maybe never would have again if I didn't hear it here. So that's cool. Also, let's hear it for short albums. I'd say 3.
Overall: 6/10 Take Me Out is such a banger that I got really excited when this popped up! However, the rest of the album ranges from "pretty good" to "kind of bland" and that seems to be the case with a lot of these rock albums from the 2000s. Definitely talented guys but I've heard this style done better by a lot of bands. Fav song: Take Me Out
I wasn’t so sure about this one to start but it was want had. Even kind of liked it.
It's been a bit, but I don't remember much about this one other than Take Me Out. I should probably listen to it again.
This album sounds like a mix of the arctic monkeys and the strokes but if they were worse. To be honest, i understand why this album was kind of a one hit wonder. Everything feels very homogenous, and though it’s all pretty decent, it gets boring. Like listening to each song individually is nice and fun, but I don’t love the whole album listening experience. Fav songs: Tell Her Tonight, Take Me Out, Come On Home
Rating: 6/10 Between video game soundtracks in the mid-2000's and my Pandora radio stations a few years later, Franz Ferdinand's Take Me Out is an iconic staple and still one of the best rock songs of the decade. Nowadays, the huge UK post-punk revival wave of the time doesn't do as much for me outside of the occasional song and landmark album. This band's debut is still decent and pretty fun and I don't think they would ever go on to match it. It really gets by purely on its energy and its runtime that would get tiring by being a little bit longer. There's some clear better songs like Jaqueline, Dark of the Matinee, and This Fire.
I looped this a few times and I think I dislike it more after repeat listens. Like on the surface it's a cool Franzy sound but eventually it really is just loud for the sake of being loud as it bashes you over the head with the chorus and drums 5.2/10
Cool, Regentage, doc Martens , Backstein
Albums not bad! I feel like it's just not my kinda thing. Tell Her Tonight is my favorite song tho!
A solid album that I've always wanted to take the time to listen to. But nothing other than Take Me Out really resonated with me.
Take Me Out is a great song and many of the other songs on this album sounded very similar to it which eventually made the sound of the band run thin.
3.25 - Enjoyable! Take Me Out is such a great song.
Meh, not my favorite.
I like some songs but there is no variety and nothing that really makes me want to keep listening. It’s a 3 for me. A high 3, but a 3.
weirdly deutsch dafür dass sie schottisch sind, musik ist ok aber für mich eher langweilig
This is that particular 00s indie sound at its best
No es mal disco, pero resulta un poco monótono.
Great album, not on my top 100 though. Good energy
Fairly energetic as I expected a lot of boring indy shit considering that these guys. "Not boring" is becoming a high praise for stuff on this list.
I thought it was enjoyable. Don't absolutely love his voice. Take me out is definitely a vibe though.
17/1001 Franz Ferdinand - Franz Ferdinand (2004) This is an album that works better as a collection of singles than a cohesive project. With highlights like 'Take Me Out' and 'The Dark Of The Matinée' I was looking forward to this a lot. And I enjoyed it. What I didn't realise was how this sort of art school post punk revival sound would tire so quickly, even for a relatively tight 38-minute project. By the time I reached songs that are objectively fun, like 'Darts of Pleasure' and 'Michael', I was already ready for it to be over as I'd gotten all I could from it. The outro was a welcome surprise of a pretty different and much more interesting sound to close it out. ★★★½
Probably shaped a lot of popular rock after their release. Some tracks are very very good, others left me perplexed. Not my kind of album, but it's been a pleasure to listen to it
es la definición literal de un 3
Solo las personas de prepa 5 tienen fisicamente permitido ponerle 5 estrellas, porque está bueno pero no tanto jajaja
I’ll be fine if I never hear Take Me Out again.
Chulo!
This is actually a really creative and slick album of post punk pop rock. Time hasn't been kind but on release it really stood out.
I thought this album was just okay
Overall a very fun album, though some are monotonous. It’s a groove for sure, and has its place. Drive music more than happy hour music.
A refreshingly simple post-punk album, albeit with a dash of pretention, FF manages to be noisy without being...noisy. Scratching guitars and disco-esque drums characterise the LP's sound, and apart from well known hit "Take Me Out", I was surprised by the strength of other songs such as "This Fire" and "Jacqueline".
Conocía Take me out
Good
Der er nogle gode numre imellem, men bortset fra det nostalgiske hit er det meget variationer over den samme sang.
Liked the rock orchestration, and the vocals aren't bad. The thematic lyrics though.... IDK.
Jacqueline - 3/5 Tell her tonight - 3/5 Take me out - 4/5 The dark of the matinee - 4/5 Auf achse - 4/5 Cheating on you - 2/5 This fire - 3/5 Darts of pleasure - 2/5 Michael - 3/5 Come on home - 3/5 40' - 2/5
I am so neutral on this band
Like it some songs
Correcto
A really good polished professional album with a great consistent sound....that I just don't yearn for, but appreciate.
I enjoyed this one more than the last one. Songs were pretty repetitive. But, I did recognize one of the songs on it. Added Take Me Out and 40’ to my playlist.
So if you're lonely You know I'm here waiting for you...
Something about Franz Ferinard winds me up. Listening to this hasn't changed my mind. Take me out has been overplayed so can't raise marks there either. Generous 3
It was ok
Was okay, a few hits, everything else was unmemorable on one listen, but understand how someone could really get 8nto this album. But, for me, a 3.
Not bad, but nothing really stood out.
so mid
Ah, Franz Ferdinand. I don't think I'll ever forget watching Fuse or MTV on weekday afternoons after middle school and having the video for Take Me Out come on at least once each time. I feel like I probably listened to the album in full at least once around that time, but most of the tracks felt unfamiliar to me on this listen. Regardless of familiarity, this is just a fun album. It's dance-punk, if that's a thing. Every second throws something at you that you can either enjoy or pout about. No matter which you choose, you certainly can't ignore it. Take Me Out is probably the best song, which is likely influenced by my nostalgia. Pretty much every track on the album is a good listen. I will say that it gets a bit exhausting, though. The album runs less than 40 minutes, but the barrage that comes from it wore me down by the end. I'm also not sure that it has a lot of re-listen value. While I'd definitely stop for a few tracks, I'm not convinced that I'll really want to hear the full thing all at once again. On the whole, FF is an enjoyable album. It comes on fast and strong without ever really letting up. While that leads it to being a little tiring, it still stays interesting. There are some really strong tracks here, and none I consider bad. It's a solid album, just not one I'd call great. Overall: 3.4/5
I mean, I liked the album enough in 2004 to buy it. And I enjoyed it. There’s lots of energy, and the vocals are engaging. But I haven’t listened to the album in years, and I’m not regretting that—even on this new listen. The album is good, but it’s far from essential.
Catchy pop-rock with some funky basslines. Decent, but not sure what is new about it.
It has some amazing musical notes; I don't think it's my favorite, but it's good.
OMG the Auf Achse track is iconic ,i like it so much .
A great pop rock album and full of catchy tunes, big hits and lesser known gems. Excellent listen
its ok gives a kinda road trip across the west movie kinda vibe tho
ok
Fun album. Obviously had the anthem of Take Me Out but also a lot of good and interesting stuff. Enjoyed the mix of genres in a lot of tracks. However, shame it’s not consistent and nothing meets the high of track 3.
So its still good, it just has a few more fillers than i remember..... But when they're good they're really really good. (wanted to give a 3.5 but downgraded for consistency)
A few hits not my favorite
"Take Me Out" is still thrilling over two decades later. The way it plays mellow indie rock into stomping dance rock is like a shot of adrenaline, and it spawned countless imitators that never matched it. Its energy is all over this album, even if the riffs never get quite that big again. Songs like "This Fire" and "Michael" are frantic and jagged, always moving forward. While there's nothing here that's boring or bad - "Tell Her Tonight" and its unfortunate placement as the second song is the closest - it does feel like it's missing a few more big swings like "Take Me Out." And I think that's what makes this feel more like a snapshot in time than a timeless record. It's a great mix of indie and dance, and it comes very close to a 4 for me. But the similarity of many of these songs limits my excitement just enough to keep it at a 3.
not my type
It’s solid but not great- repetitive sound of the time, indie like Modest Mouse, vocals like the Killers and some of the hipster attitude of Arcade Fire. But that’s it, it just sounds like everything else. If post punk sounds like Sparks get a 4- this can’t be up there with it…is my reasoning.
I remember when Take Me Out came out and the dance floors of Austin exploded. This is my first time listening to the whole album. I enjoyed it but I can also see where someone might think they only had one album because they really only had one radio hit, at least that I know of.
6/10
This is a good early-to-mid 2000s British indie rock album, with some very catchy, danceable songs, but there’s not quite enough quality there to lift it into 4-star territory for me. Like so many albums, most of the best tracks are stacked towards the start (‘Jacqueline’, ‘Take Me Out’, ‘The Dark of the Matinée’), so it does run out of steam a bit by the end, though there are some later highlights too (‘This Fire’ and ‘Michael’). On the plus side even the weaker material has a great groove; it’s very hard not to tap your feet listening to this!
mehhh
Some is brilliant, some is proper landfill indie. Pick your poison
Fun album, but a bit one-note
It was fun.
good album, few skips. overall pretty nice.
Doesn’t quite pop out sound wise. But each track does have a unique vibe
Solid indie album, take me out was overplayed 20 years ago but now it’s a banger. The rest of the album isnt bad but it isn’t particularly memorable either
Some really great songs on this record, but overall not really my type of music and the record as a whole is good but not legendary.
This was not too bad. Once again I was a bit skeptical about a UK band from this era but this came across as a fun listen. Nothing really stood out as incredible but it wasn’t terrible. Probably need a few more listens to understand why this is on this list. Not sure if I’ll ever feel like listening to this at home again but if I happen to hear this out in the world, I’ll probably not be offended and it might stand out enough for me to Shazam it.
Really very good. It's easy to be a bit dismissive as it was such a pop hit and was part of the wave of "indie " that included some really uninteresting stuff. It's absolutely a solid record though. Really good fun. Some great songwriting and delivered with so many hooks and funky features
I don't hate it. Disco indie.
I can’t believe Take Me Out is an old song already. I remember when this came out! What a jam. Not sure if the rest of the album is as thrilling though. Definitely encapsulates the moment.
Growing up right in the prime of early indie music these guys have been on my radar for a long time, but this was the first time I have sat and listened to a whole Franz Ferdinand album. I felt like they are very focused on the hook or catchy chorus, something they did a few times, but lack the overall emotional realness that I think the best music has. Maybe it's due to the dance inspired drum beats, but most of these songs ended up feeling robotic to me. Probably fun to see live, but in album form this really didn't capture me.
This was fine. Take Me Out was absolutely everywhere when it came out and I've heard it countless times. I'm kind of surprised I hadn't heard a single other song on the album. These guys definitely found a formula and stuck to it though, so I honestly think I could have lived not hearing the rest.
Sympa comme tout, très dansant Tell her tonight ++ AAAAAH mais c’est de lui Take me Out Trop cool !
Enjoyed this when it came out and it holds up well. Favorite songs: Take Me Out, The Dark Of The Matinee, Cheating On You
It's a very fun listen. The highest quality are the songs themselves. Not only your basic post punk stuff. Some interesting harmony passages and varied dinemics. Perhaps the playing and singing are not exceptional, but they sound really good together. I think a 3.7 will do justice
C'est correct. J'pense pas que ça passe full le test du temps.
I liked it, but didn’t really take any of it in
Reminds me of an indie club which I’m not mad about. Take me out clears the rest though
Take me Out goated Matinee also good Rest of the album is ight
Though take me out is an all-time Classic, the rest of the album is a bit lackluster
Take Me Out is so iconic! I also enjoyed The Dark Of The Matinée. Very cool vibe.
6/10. Recognized a couple, the rest were new. None of the songs particularly stood out to me more than the others. I think This Fire and 40' were my favorites, although I also liked Cheating On You more than I expected. Fun listen, agreeing with Ness that the singer kind of sucking adds a lot of charm.
- My top tracks were Tell Her Tonight, This Fire, and Darts of Pleasure - This has been sitting at like a 6 for me this whole listen through. There is nothing here that makes me go ewwwww, and there's some good jams here. - Franz Ferdinand is something I enjoyed more two years ago (got that incel indie emo-adjacent rock vibes to it in such a weird way). I love that their singer fucking sucks, it really adds to the album. - I like that they all suck and are weird losers, i think it adds to the charm of the album. - I am going with a 5/10. I enjoyed it. I don't think much about it though. Three stars, 5/10.
2.75 stars. Better than I expected. Still a bit clingy clangy indie.
Dont really get the hype to this. Just alright innit. Maybe slightly better then some of the indie bands of the early 2000s, but still nothing to amazing. Dont need to play it again.
Djou know what, its better than i remember, some nothing songs but a few catchy tunes. Better albums if the period that arent on here though.
Good album Really like the dark of the matinée
Not spectacular, singles are the clear standouts, did enjoy 40 as well. Ain’t bad either, just alright.
This was new to me. I enjoyed it, but probably won’t listen to it again
This album goes all over the place. Starts out with Jacqueline, which is some generic decent rock. Tell Her Tonight is similar. And then Take Me Out hits, which is always a banger, love this song. The Dark Of The Matinee is fun, and you think ok, after the shaky first couple, the album is finding its way. But then Auf Asche comes on and its just repetitive and boring. The rest of the album pretty much just goes between that and some decent tracks. Except for Come On Home, which is really fun and has some nice guitar work. 40' ends it fairly nicely. Hard to rate the album, between the individual songs I have 1s, 2s, 3s, a 4, and a 5. Overall I think it would get a 2, with Take Me Out bumping it up to a 3. Best song: Take Me Out
It's ok.... (Love the singles. This website recommending too much white music I'm bored as hellll)
I don’t dislike FF, but on the other hand, I don’t really like them, but the album was ok
Yeah solid album, I’d give it 3.5 stars if I could. Take me out is the highlight even though that’s the only song I knew but for a reason because that song honestly is very good! Like I forgot how good it was. There’s some other ones that are good too on here that’s not the only good song. I really like the bass grooves and drums on this record. Very good melodies and stuff and sounds or atmosphere that is appealing to me. With alittle edge not just pop rock. Yeah that’s all I got.
Feels like coworker music. Guitars are well done, although instrumental gets repetitive. Reminds me of Arctic Monkeys + Muse. Singing is very similar to Muse, Aug Acshe is really, really not my taste. Repetitive lyrics overall, meh. 5/10
take me out dot com 3.5 algumas musicas legais mas um pouco repetitivo
Kind of an 80’s undertone. Maybe more of a 2.5
I loved the beat change in Jacqueline, such a great opener for an album. Take Me Out was a great song! However, after a while, the songs start sounding the same... Rating: 2.5 -> 3
Decent 3,5
I expected to only like Take Me Out. I liked more! BASED
This was a fun little indie rock album. The obvious hit was "Take Me Out" and that was leagues over the rest of the album. But I really enjoyed "The Dark of the Matinée", a bop.
Great debut album. The band have got better over the years but not matched the spark and songwriting on this.
5/10
I am getting mid and mid and all over mid recently
Not bad and enjoyed some songs
This is a tricky one. Loads of good, memorable tunes on here. Take Me Out is an all-time indie disco classic. It's a clear highlight of the album. Jacqueline and Darts of Pleasure also stand out. However, I can't say I truly love or like this album. Maybe it's too eager to please, maybe it's not as good as it thinks it is. Maybe if they'd only made this album and then disappeared I would love it. Should be 4 stars, I'll probably give it 3.
Álbum clásico, con 11 canciones presentadas, incluido el track "take me out". Un disco sólido, que trae un aire al año 2000. Me gustó mucho la canción " 40' ", el bajo suena muy bien. En una escala del 1 al 10, le doy un 7 🙌🏼✨
A little generic, nothing stood out. But it's a feel-good album, very road-trip-y, or millenial party vibes. Liked it!
Cool but not ... spectacular
it's still 2007 and I'm trapped under a mountain of pinstripe ringer tees in an urban outfitters. they won't let me leave. turns out I'm not particularly nostalgic for the aughts post-punk thing. catchy though! Three stars. Favorite track: Michael.
Lots of good songs individually that I would listen to again. But listening to the entire album straight through it can get a little boring and repetitive.
Scottish Strokes raised on Blur.
Fun
Enjoyed it, brought me back to the 2000’s
Honestly, this band gets in my nerves. I recognize they are not bad, they have cool songs, but all of them sound the same to me, the same rythm, the same drums, same quick guitar riffs... It felt too long, and the album is under 40 minutes. A tight pass. 2,5/5.
Good album. A lot of the songs sounded the same. Favorites included Jacqueline, take me out, and the dark of the matinee. Songs we listened too before hand was take me out.
The archduke didnt die for this. I only know Take Me Out. Alright song, nothing extraordinary. That's how I'd describe the whole album honestly. I don't hate it, but it doesn't have any songs that really stand out. Darts of pleasure is my favourite I suppose. Also, it would have been funnier if the album were called Gavrilo Princip. That way you could say you're listening to Take Me Out Gavrilo Princip by Franz Ferdinand.
YouTube music autoplayed like 7 songs after this album finished and I was a little suspicious for one of them but was totally convinced that the others were part of the album
This is a good, post-punk (or power pop?) album of ear-wormy songs. "Take Me Out" is the big hit but I also really liked "Jacqueline" and "The Dark of the Matinee." Lyrically it did nothing for me and it's front-loaded but it's enjoyable enough and I like their more recent output as well. Actually like them more than Arctic Monkeys, just sayin.
A really fun throwback to indie rock's heyday. Like a lot of people, I went into this only knowing Take Me Out, but i think these guys deserve more than one-hit wonder status. Great punchy and varied sound on here, gets a little repetitive but i still really enjoyed it.
Love some the tracks off this album. Unfortunately it’s got more misses than I remember. Still very good
There was something relaxing about it
Fine. The album is very early 2000's and sounds very much like Snow Patrol (or does Snow Patrol sound like them?). Either way it's just sort of fine, nothing too hard or anything that makes you think, just sort of nice bouncy pop.
they've got some good tracks. "Take me out" by far strongest. then they've got some meh tracks. still a overall good listen 3.5 stars
Como tal se mantiene mucho el sonido en todo el album y esta bueno como para cuando quiero escuchar la misma cancion varias veces pero con distinta letra lol, muy entretenido tambien de escuchar
Fun, rythmic, maybe a little bit repetetive.
Brings back memories
it was fun! but would not listen again.
good 2000s alternative, wasn't my personal favorite but there are some good songs like “Take Me Out” & “Jacqueline”.
Havent heard but 1 song from this band, either Guitar Hero or Rockband, was a refreshing good listen, but probably will be my only listen
Only familiar with "Take Me Out" prior to listening. Can't say this is something I'd come back to personally, but I do appreciate the tone of the album.
Bumpin
I remember when this record came out (22 years ago already!) and I've always had mixed emotions. It was refreshing, and there are some real bangers on this album like "Take Me Out", but on the other hand, I never couldn't get rid of the feeling that I'd somehow heard it all before. Fast forward 22 years later, and I found myself still listening to other garage/post-punk bands like "The Strokes" or "The White Stripes" but not FF. I think that says it all. 3/5
I used to like this. I still like this.
Cool!
Probably the last ‘indie’ group to be a mainstream success and a lot was made of this album at the time. Spiky, tuneful and with a sense of fun, and they’re Scottish! Not hugely original but entertaining nonetheless.
What a great album that I'm rediscovering entirely! You can hear all the rock and a certain energy that I really appreciated while listening, and I find myself hesitating between 3 and 4 stars. But it's not an album I'll naturally listen to again, which is my criterion for awarding the 4th star, so I'll stick with 3.
I see this album as the UK’s answer to The Strokes, just more dance-friendly, and I have to admit it works. The Talking Heads influence is obvious on Tell Her Tonight, and a few tracks are so well written they’ve earned their place in the indie hit pantheon. That said, by the end I feel worn out. The sound is dry, sometimes almost shrill, the instrumental parts feel a bit too clear, and overall it lacks the warmth I usually look for. I won’t skip it if it comes on, but there’s little chance I’ll ever put this record back on by myself. After Brit-pop, it was a good move still.
This is the type of music I like so really wanted to like it more but thought it is just like not as good as arctic monkeys sorry! Between a 3 and 4
loved this in hs/college. still a lot of fun. 3.5
Couple of bangers but nothing breathtaking
feels like a new age, not as good beatles album. there’s that one banger on it that highkey slaps thi
#4 听得我很烦
Forgettable 2000s rock revival.
Ya it’s ok.
I only ever listened to "Take me out" before, so it's a good thing this made me listen to it. Now, after listening to the album, there a few other good tracks like, "Jacqeline", "Cheating on you", and "The Dark of the Matinée". Over all, its good, but I understand why my dad says hes not crazy about them.
Reminds me of my first year in uni which is a wonderful thing
(76/100)
also so good! i think my favorite is still take me out but i would listen to it again!
Good stuff. they loaded the back of the album with the most gems. But this is an album that transports you back to that time period
Jó dallamok, jó kis indie hangzás, nem volt eget verő
OK, wouldn't rush to listen again
didnt expect to like it
enjoyed the punk vibes from this album. solid album! don't have too much to say about it, i enjoyed it for the most part. 7/10
None of the album is unpleasant to listen to, but it does largely blur into one. I wouldn't say any songs particularly stood out to me or did anything massively exciting/different. Not my favourite vocals, but not the worst. Overall just very average...
Funky beats easy listening. I don't know what the style of guitar is called; it's feels more iconic than djent I'm surprised it's not part of a broader genre. I was originally going to highlight Take Me Out but I'm not sure why this one rose to the top in terms of popularity, there's a lot of equally good songs with a similar style. I feel like they didn't experiment with their sound much which led to this being quite a so-so album. It's pretty short though so it didn't get too stale low 3
In the mid 2000s there was this glut of ‘landfill’ indie that all sounded like derivatives of one another. I never particularly liked Franz Ferdinand when they came out but they did seem the best of a bad bunch. I can see why ‘take me out’ took off so much as it has one of those riffs that people sing along to, but the rest of the album, while not hugely exciting is reasonable. Slightly more art rock influences on it probably keep it slightly more interesting than its peers, with shades of the velvet underground, magazine, and even Belle and Sebastian coming through for me.
I always go into these albums hoping my favorite track won’t be the legendary hit from the record, but how can it not be “Take Me Out”? Kind of hit-or-miss overall, some good songs though. Best Track: Take Me Out
Liked it, but except for the most listened track nothing stood out specifically
I forgot all about this band! This was good
Decent enough, not Indie Landfill which is always a decent yardstick for anything of this sort from the 00s.
Recognized more of the songs than I thought. Okay one but not a standout
Sound and reminders of the early aughts. Would give 3.5 if I could.
holds up really well, truly embodies the early 2000s punky pop rock stuff
More than a one hit wonder band. I rlly loved ‘Auf Achse’
“Take Me Out” is one of the songs that helped get me into indie rock. I remember being in my first year of college a few years after this came out and all of a sudden learning about a bunch of bands like Frank Ferdinand that I suddenly needed to catch up on. This song in particular was an early favorite. It’s got swagger. Frank Ferdinand definitely project coolness, but now that I’m a little older, their coolness feels a bit practiced. And their sound is right between The Strokes and The Killers without being quite as bold or original as those bands. Still, I like the way they incorporate disco and funk rhythms into their music. It’s angular, angsty dance rock. Overall, this is a solid album with a great energy. “Take Me Out” is the clear standout though and the one track worthy of classic status. 3.5
Rockin and rollin Fave song: Jacqueline - LMAO MOOD also come on home
“Take Me Out” is the monster hit on this one. Everything else is just pretty ok. But, cover to cover, it’s a fun album to listen to.
I will say it's aged a lot better than a lot of early 2000s indie rock. The bad part of its aging is that it doesn't sound overly impactful in any way. It's fun music, but not earth shattering.
Ok. Not my thing tho
Not my fav, just not my style. Only song recognised was ‘take me out’
hatte iwie schlager erwartet lol, aber actually ganz fun so auf 70s rock bisschen I guess ganz fun eig
I didn't finish but didn't know take me out was that song! They were good from what I listened but a little repetitive
A dynamic record from a band that emerged during the early-/mid-2000s garage rock revival with Jet and The Strokes and share a similar sound and aesthetic. Catchy riffs and misleading arrangements such as that on Take Me Out add up to an interesting listen. Tracks often have a disco beat, some have retro echo vocals, mostly it's bouncy, dancey rock guitars and a frantic-sounding jam. They seem to have a fascination with Germany for some reason - Darts of Pleasure feature German-language lyrics and the video for Michael shows people dressed up like the old SNL Sprockets sketches: "und now ve dance!"
1st time to listen to whole album. enjoyed this album very much!
all the songs sound the same 5 stars for take me out, and i like 40'
A few great songs
Fine indie rock. Think it's weaker of the big 2000s indie stuff but not bad.
Take Me Out kind of gets on my nerves but there were definitely three or so songs I chucked into my playlist
take me out is so eletric and cheating on you got a laugh out of me and come on home was another highlight
nice, rap is not my genre... but fineeeeeeee
Impeccable vibe: a nice urban night club feel that distracts you from what trends have just come and gone, differentiates it from the horde of british bands in the 2000s. Little care is given to masking their inspirations, great example of taking a trend and effortlessly rolling with it, all while having a ball. Less of an albums band, listening in an order, all the songs in an album don't add up to much more than another song, but each song on it's own is a three minute punch, dancable, catchy and yet with a satisfying raw edge. Most songs can be listened on repeat. Somewhere between 7 and 8
Not quite selling as a loose outfit given how tight they are, and not quite as more than one review mentions Television - that's who I was thinking of as "tight band" to reference). Fairly middling indie rock that's capable and bouncy but that's about it. Don't think you need to hear this before you die, but it's certainly not bad. Besides knowing the inescapable Take Me Out, I enjoyed the organ and marching, radiohead-ish shades of Come On Home. Otherwise, again, nothing remarkable, but I might return to it if I need something in the background to be mindlessly productive.
I liked how it was energetic in the beginning, then began to 'slow down' towards the end. Not too bad.
From this era, If gives the vibe of the Strokes first album, but not every song is memorable. Fine listen.
Take me out is a great song. After that took a turn for the worse but seems to have more catchy songs on the back half. Good little rock record here.
Hadn't heard this in years and it's still quite good. I didn't go all in on the new indie thing but it's still not a bad listen. Matinee is a great song and take me out is still something you hear often. Right band, right time I reckon.
This album makes a strong first impression. The opening run, especially “Take Me Out,” is undeniably catchy, rhythmically sharp, and full of swagger. The band knows exactly what it wants to be, and for a stretch, it pulls that off effortlessly. As the record goes on, though, the impact levels off. The songs remain solid and well constructed, but few truly stand out beyond the early highlights. The style is consistent to a fault. What initially feels tight and confident gradually starts to feel familiar rather than compelling. This isn’t really my lane musically, but I respect how well it’s executed. It’s above average, clearly successful at what it set out to do, and easy to understand why it connected so strongly at the time. It just doesn’t quite rise to the level of something I’d seek out or revisit often. A high three feels right. Well made, catchy, and competent, but stopping short of greatness.
Meh
Pretty average.

Two-and-a-half to three stars. ***** - Best of the Best **** - Very Good *** - Decent ** - Average to Below Average * - Awful % - Straight Garbo
i have heard take me out but never really looked into the album - “the fire” the parts where he’s like oh how i burn for you is super rad lowk giving arctic monkeys rating - 6/10 not really my taste but there were some bangers
a bit underwhelmed tbh! a mediocre album with one or two bangers on it, but i expected more :(
Nice
Would be 3.5 if I could do half stars.
Take me out was very fun, the rest of the album is just a blur to me… like it’s good indie rock but nothing else stood out, wasn’t anything bad tho.
A little too punky for my liking but it has some good tunes and produced their number 1 song. I’d like it to have a little more authenticity but overall, a good album, just not my style
Good
A nice indie pop album with one massive hit on it.
OK, but doesn't age quite as well as some other bands.
Sonically a solid record but it falls prey to most of the songs sounding too much alike. The lead single still has a great hook. Hard to believe this one is 10 years old.
i like 👍
ja leuke muziek! kende ook al 2 nummers. toch zou ik niet snel een nummer hiervan aanklikken , ookal vind ik the dark of the matinee wel t leukste
This album was fine? It had some fun songs, but I think I would die happy without having heard it.
3.5 stars
I quite like this kind of sound at the time - spiky, angular, dance-tinged indie rock. I still like it but it’s not setting my hair on fire. Today this, on a first listen, is a strong 3.
like it but not love
I had to listen to it twice to get most of the songs. Its a good album but not my fave. Lots of that kind of that kinda hetero sadboy whiny songs about "why am i so sad and dark and horny, you girl youre so beautiful lets be rebbels and burn it all down" stuff. But then the song "Michael" comes on and ive never heard sonething so gay from this genre around this era it really took me be suprise XD
It's fun, creative, and obviously made with care. It was a little chaotic and definitely of the times. Not something I would listen to in my free time.
With the exception of the absolute banger, Take Me Out, this album is kinda mid. It’s fine, and the music is certainly not bad. It’s just nothing special. Again though, Take Me Out is undeniable. For that song alone the album can’t get anything less than a 3.
☆☆☆ I liked the album but immediately after I listened to it I couldn't remember a single song
I usually dont reach for music like this but with a changing mind towards the music i listen to now, this album is actually very fun for its kinda 80s rock mood it has. I actually like it alot, the unique poly melodies. I dont have much more to say i like it as a new sound for me.
Catchy
Sounds like twangy guitars and skinny suits. Apart from Take Me Out which brings back great memories of Pilsworth Megabowl the rest is forgettable and not really my vibe. 6 something
Enjoyed
7/10 poppy, rhythmic, and encapsulates the early 2000s garage rock sound
cool
This album was fairly enjoyable. Pretty good from that era.
Take Me Out was on repeat when it debuted. Solid album. 3.5 stars.
Just okay
I like this! A few songs stood out to me: Take Me Out, The Dark of the Matinee, Cheating on You, Darts of Pleasure, and Michael. Is this band ultimately for me? I don’t really think so. But it was a good listen for my drive to work this morning.
New band for me. Liked the vocal. Overall, a good album.
This was a fun nostalgia kick and I've had "The Dark of the Matinee" stuck in my head for a few days now, but that's it.
what a strange little german man. i enjoy his ferdiband.
All of the LiveJournal girlies were very into this album. I always liked the weird papercraft video for "Take Me Out" but I didn't get super into Franz Ferdinand overall because I was busy collecting Spin magazine editions with articles in them about The Killers. "This Fire" was fun to rediscover but overall this still, like, enjoyable music that feels like 2004-2006.
Decent. 3/5
Decent listen.
Quiet liked the vibe of this album, I’d listen to Take me out a million times before listening to any other one of their songs.
Scottish indie rock. Favorite track: Take me out other picks: the dark of the matinee, this fire, michael
It’s fine, but it sucks. I suppose it’s ok. But mainly it sucks. I have no right to judge. I haven’t done much with my life and this sucks, even though at times it’s ok. But mainly it sucks.
Resolutely upbeat, Beirut energy. Take Me Out is an absolute banger.
It's 2004. I'm blasting the more emo / grunge-y music the OC has introduced me to in my 1998 Mitsubishi Montero. Life is good. This album was and is fun. Not something I necessarily need to revisit, but a good time and I'm here for it.
one of those albums where there’s one smash hit and then 10 mediocre tracks treading similar water
My first time listening to Franz Ferdinand. They reminded me of Big Country. I enjoyed it.
Reminds me of Leeds
Pretty good throughout. I only knew "Take Me Out" before. Not tempted to skip but also not a big groove
A bit overrated, but still unique.
Very fun album. The first songs remind me a bit of the soundtrack of some old SSX games. Spotify probably agrees with me because the song that came up after the album was done was Banquet by Bloc Party which is definitely in the SSX On Tour soundtrack. Take Me Out is one of those songs that I wouldn't be able to name but feel like I've heard them before in a Guy Ritchie film or something like it. It's a good song and obvious to hear why it became a classic but I was most surprised by Come On Home. It makes me think of the internet hit Subways Of Your Mind by FEX and that's an awesome track. The other tracks on the album do fail to impress me unfortunately so I won't give it more than 3 stars.
This is a solid album for the era but I would not classify this as an essential album.
Хит. Лучшая песня - Take Me Out.
I liked the instrumentals but none of the melodies caught my attention
Not so interesting
i guess this was innovative and special in 2004 but doesn't feel that way now. fine enough favorite song: Auf Asche
Some solid b sides throughout to complement Take Me Out. Art Punk throughout with some blues mixed in. Standout however here is The Dark of the Matinee which takes the rating for me from a 3 to a 3.5. Good album.
A solid alt rock album. Really straight down the middle for the genre, head bobbing fun. Favorite track was Cheating On You, even if the subject matter is not great
cha me lose
an adequate guitar band
Good dance rock, but not really my thing.
Actually this record is not bad at all. I wasn’t looking forward to it, mostly just cause when this record was released, there were a slew of records released that sounded just like it (the Strokes, the Hives, Jet, etc.). I’ve never been drawn to the dancey low-fi garage band vibe of these bands. I’m still not in love with that whole sound, but I’m finding that I can overlook it a bit on this record. The songs are pretty decent, though honestly, I’m doubtful that I’ll come back and relisten to it a bunch, if ever. Probably one of the better records of the aforementioned bunch, and I’m enjoying it enough for what it is, but I haven’t been turned to a fan or anything. 3.8/5
I liked this when it came out. They used Take Me Out on NHL 2005 which means I’ve heard it way too many times. The vibe was a reinvention of XTC and other new wave bands but ultimately I’d rather listen to them.
havent listened to this one since i was a kid, great fun some super classic tracks but a bit samey
Another classic, no bad songs!
Naja..
Almost a 4 as there are a couple of bangers
It's ok, I guess. The album feels very samey and has a noisy vibe to it. I was so sick of Take Me Out but time and distance have helped.
never heard this album but Take Me Out is a banger so I'm hoping the rest of the record has good things to offer *Jacqueline: the pathways of my mind are built for post-2000 indie rock. it's good soup. Tell Her Tonight: little bit of Modest Mouse, little bit of Crack Cloud. love the manic angular energy in the verses but the chorus is mid. rockstars love to write songs about cheating on their girlfriends *Take Me Out: me when I say don't you know and you say you don't know The Dark of the Matinee: this sounds goofy. also kinda gives me anxiety. it's not quite circus music but I feel like the dude is twirling his moustache while singing it Auf Achse: sounds a bit like Mew if they weren't good. I can't pinpoint why it isn't working but I find it kind of boring Cheating on You: MULTIPLE songs about cheating on your girlfriend on the same album is criminal. "I'm cheating on you, yeah!" (x3) This Fire: again, on paper this song is something I should really like but it's just not hitting. *Darts of Pleasure: groovy, love the guitar riff during the verses. catchy hook too Michael: passable *Come on Home: really like this one, it has a fun sound to it. I'm sure other tracks on here had synths in them but this is the first one where I paid attention to them, they sound like a cheap Halloween costume (complimentary) 40': what the hell this is so dope?? more interesting than half the album combined the middle of this album is a slog but there's a few gems on here that make it worth a spin. I'm biased towards this kind of music so I should honestly like it more than I do, but it's a solid record. __ SCORE: 7/10 ADDED TO PLAYLIST: Jacqueline, Take Me Out, Darts of Pleasure, Come on Home, 40'
Enjoyed the album, a couple of the cuts I even recognized.
I actually had Herbie Hancock and not Franz
A very consistent style. Well delivered
Good energy, really enjoyed the songs at the start of the record. Take Me Out is a great song. The record really starts to feel repetitive after 3-4 tracks. Not bad, but gets old.
Good album, a lot of songs sounded the same
The UKs response to NY’s 2000s Post Garage. Filled with happy dance pop music
I would not go out of my way to listen to this again, but I wouldn’t be mad if someone left it playing when I walked in the room. Another aggressively ok offering.
3.5
Not surprisingly, nothing else on the album approaches the killer track levels of Take Me Out. A few other decent songs on the album but nothing particularly memorable. Some of the songs grew on me after a second listen, but still not sure the album will make it to my permanent rotation even though the genre is right in my wheelhouse. 3.5 stars rounded down
Fun-ish indie album, extra point the singles being bangen
Had heard this before and it's decent, but really Take Me Out is THE JAM here, with most of the rest being...ok.
Fine? Nothing really hits me hard. Take Me Out is solid but most of this is not memorable. High 2 low 3
Bit samey, but good music and iconic single.
These songs made me nervous.
About as original as a stroke but a fun, dancey, punky, wirey album that is almost instantly forgettable as to almost inspire a whole new genre in its stubborn irrelevance.
Ok.
Ambivalent about this. Too heavy on the drums and repetitive for my own personal taste, but the hooks are often undeniable. I love some of the song writing (Michael for example feels fresh and is fun) but it is also often the dumbest (Cheating on you is a crime). It does sound like a lot of different things, nevertheless, it ushered a wave of groups trying to replicate this sound. What I find most interesting is the fact that for a band that does sounds like a rip off of others, they have been ripped off too. Their music while very referential, still sounds sorta fresh 20 years later and that is interesting. That being said, a swing and some hits spells out middle of the road album to me. Nowhere near terrible, nowhere near great, and that is not the reaction I want : I want more.
gostei do começo com jacqueline, take me out me fara dar 5 estrelas e até agora acho que faz sentido ser a mais ouvida. this fire é legal, darts of pleasure também
Solid
One famous guitar lick, but otherwise good music
Nostalgic Take me out was in a game i used to play
I’m giving it a 3 star. But it’s a really good 3 stars. It’s like you’re in college. You’re drunk and go out to the local place for a nice big chicken veggie wrap. It’s pretty good for you, it hits the spot and a few bites are even darn near transcendent. But you finish up and move on. Still, you think about that meal every now and then. If I owned this on CD back in the day I would enjoy it sure, but I could also give it away or sell it without missing it. Take Me Out is a really damn good song these fellows came up with. Among the best of its kind. As I said. Very strong 3 stars.
Pretty good but kind of a one noter
Franz Ferdinand
Definitely early to the indie sound & scene. In terms of defining what indie rock sounds like, I think I prefer this to other early acts. However, after 20 or so years of newer indie, it has lost some charm. Definitely a few bangers though
Alright. A few hits here and there but the others blend into nothing.
There are moments when this album reaches a 5 but the inconsistencies between tracks makes it a 3 for me. "Take me out" is undoubtedly the band's most popular (arguably best) song; apart from Take Me Out, Dark of the Matinee, Michael, and Jacqueline were some standout tracks.
reminded me of the strokes if they weren't greasy
back in the day. already? banger.
i mean... it's alright. Take Me Out is awesome but the rest is just meh
I've always liked this band well enough, but there's a real same-y-ness to the music. Listenable, fun, but nothing special.
Brings me back to the days of Kaiser Chiefs and Razorlight. Franz always felt a level sharper than those chaps, but once Arctic Monkeys landed a couple years later, they stole the whole scene. Franz just missed it for me. Maybe a bit too prancey.
Nice, overall. Indiepop with its own sound.
hot take: only saved by the absolute banger that is take me out Would I listen again? No Deserves to be on this list? Yes 3.2
buenazo
Just the one. Needs a relisten I think
Indierock med discotrummor. Gillade det när det kom och tycker att det håller okej idag. Inget mästerverk men går att lyssna på.
