This shit is so ass

Genuinely awful. Sunday’s Best takes the crown as the new worst song I’ve ever listened to. It’s like a bizarro-world Beach Boys with Bob Dylan’s singing voice, horrifyingly bad.

Proof that just because things make musical-sounding noise and play in the same key, it doesn't necessarily add up to "music" Some lyrics are way too dark and serious for the stupidly poppy and upbeat instrumentation, like a guy who wasn't part of the band is reading from a lyric sheet for someone else's music and making up the tuneless "melody" as he goes

I'm just not into his music. I think it's his voice, I don't know. I tried.

This album cover looks like ai. The dude’s voice is painful, ew

Always been a mystery to me who actually likes Elvis Costello, I mean someone must, as he’s been around forever, I've just never met anyone who does, or who’ll admit to it at least. Horrible record by the way, his voice…..

NOT HIM AGAIN 😩 you should have seen my face the moment i pressed play on spotify 1,5/5

i found this whole thing pretty irritating tbh and i’m glad i don’t have to listen to it again

Did not enjoy. Boring, irritating and uses the N word for no apparent reason

So done with Elvis Costello. Please no more

Why do they insist on Elvis Costello?

Jesus...again new wave...one of the easiest 1's.

Ugh. Like all EC & A albums, this one sucks too. “Elvis Costello’s third album is fueled by wonderfully harnessed emotions…” Bullcrap! He sounds like Bruce Springsteen with a cold, dipped in cold molasses. Good Lord, who likes this crap? “She’ll be the ooooone” ugh Zero stars 1001 album worthy: hell no - 61/114

Don't think I've ever seen someone less qualified to say the n word than this guy That's not the reason I'm giving it a 1 by the way. I'm giving it a 1 because it's worse than This Year's Model in every single way, his vocals SOMEHOW managed to piss me off even more, and Elvis just annoys me. At least I don't have to see his face on the album cover anymore

Every terrible thing about 80s music in one album.

Blergh

Enough with the Costello already

This music is far too white to be using the N-word.

I've never been a Costello fan. Listening to this album... nope. nope. nope. nopety nope nope nope, sorry Elvis but John Darnielle is the only overly verbose white dude singer for me.

0 if I could

No! No more Elvis Costello for God’s sake.

Ugh. Fuck me ANOTHER Elvis Costello? He's a hack.

i read that someone described oliver's army as "a single radio couldn't refuse" and i am guessing that is purely because of the political content because every song on this album sounded the same and it was all a snooze fest.

Was this meant to be a concept album about the army? Weird... Also sounds like he's impersonating someone. Won't listen again.

Seriously, ANOTHER Elvis Costello album?

Wow I really dislike Elvis Costello. I simply don't understand where the enjoyment or attraction of his music is meant to come in.

I made a promise that the next overrated album from this clown that came up on this list would be an immediate 1 star. Absolutely not worthy of more than one album on here, and now we're at what, 4?!? Endless yapping and whining, not memorable at all. A lot of bands in a similar genre and time are great, but every single Elvis Costello song I've heard, even if it starts interesting, turns beige by the 53 second mark. Regardless, this is me keeping my promises. 1/5

Bland puddle of soup

I just can't stand anything about Elvis Costello

Shut up Elvis

No more Elvis Costello. Please, I beg you...

HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAA... hahahHAahaHAHAHAAA...AHHHHHHHHH AHAHAHAHAHA HHAAHAHAHA!!! WoooooooHooooOOOOOOOO!!!! HAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHA AHHHHHHRGGGGGGGGG Heeheheheeeee HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH * hysterical laughter *

OOOUUUWEAAAHH... kriminaali, hän on kriminaali... maailman kammottavin ääni, kauhistuttavin..vokaali. ei ole mahdollista olla enemmän kuin yksi tähti kun herra kostello pistää laulaen.. niin vitun hirveätä paskaa.. tämä on objektiivinen arvostelu. annoin tälle rehdin, todellisen mahdollisuuden ja ensimmäisen viiden sekunnin aikana elvis jätti sen heitteille... syöttäkää tämä vitun jesteri krokotiileille... enempää aivo voimaa en vittu tälle anna olivers army... n-word, you dont have the pass bro is not bob dylan...

Terrible. Just can’t ever get into it.

This feels like the kind of music you would hear in a bad rom-com / coming-of-age movie. Or the end credits of a boring 90's TV Show. Mixed with a whiny Stewie Griffin-like voice.

Yup that’s a slur

Cant even bob my head to this weird ass music.

Please tell me this is the third and final Costello album on the list. I skipped at least half the song on most of the songs. Every time I hear something that does catch my attention I realize it's because it reminds me of something that came out before this, so the interesting parts aren't even original.

Just dreadful. Such a chore to get through the whole thing (and it’s objectively short). It feels like I’m in a circus against my will and there’s this old washed clown singing in my ear some “clever” ironic lyrics. And then all of the sudden he starts throwing slurs around but apparently it’s ok because he’s a clown. Nah I don’t get this guy and never will.

Haha good joke 1001 albums, now where is my real album of the day?

I haven't given Elvis Costello many listens in the past, and my god, I have not missed anything. This was awful! His voice was awful, the music was flat, and nothing stood out. I couldn't wait for this album to end.

Despite the constant onslaught of EC albums from this project, I still cannot understand the hype. And that is having no preconceptions as I had never heard any of his music before.

thats the 3rd or 4th album from this punchable face mf and it surprised me that he can go off like that, just to recognize that the volume was off. He had like 3-4 good songs with still annoying moments but that this mf said nigga killed me lmaooooo. His songwriting is not that smart and crazy to me tbh. 2.0/5.0

too many albums by the same artist.

Did nothing for me, Oliver's army is good but that's it.

I didn't finish it.

Singing was awful. Lyrics weren't that great. Couldn't carry a tune. I couldn't wait till it was over. Don't think there was a single song I considered "mediocre"

- hat mich irgendwie kalt gelassen und mir nicht allzu viel gegeben

I stupidly checked and I'm not even half way through all these Elvis Costello albums yet. This one is the worse so far. He leans into his whiny voice. Clearly this author was the height of cool in 1979. Unfortunate for the rest of us.

חלש

Voz insoportable. Las letras tienen pinta de interesantes pero no puedo escucharlas.

I was surprised at how much I disliked this album. I just cant get into it with his singing/voice.

This one is really bad. Sounds like every other rock band.

Is this even real right now? Sounds like a parody. He’s like the Weezer of his era, oOOooHhhH yeahhhh, alllrriiigghhhtt. In “Oliver’s Army”, I heard a very surprising word and had to look up the lyrics. I heard correctly. :O The rest of the songs I tuned out because they were absolutely trash. I honestly don’t know who likes this shit. It’s actually making me upset that I had to sit here and waste an hour of my life listening to his little bitch voice. And I like Blink-182. So, that says a lot. Then I saw the title “Two Little Hitlers”, so edgy. This man has never left his parents basement before, and it shows. Worst album so far. I’m putting a 1/10 because I can’t put a 0/10.

Elvis Costello’s voice is a little annoying. Kinda sounds like a South Park character who’s playing himself, making fun of himself. “Senior Service” was catchy but not catchy enough to save this album. “Sunday’s Best” felt like it could have been the track at a carnival. Whatever genre of music this is… it is not doing it for me. I really do feel you could search up Royalty Free Music and you would find songs from this album. 2/10

This is what I imagine clowns listen to. Am I being pranked, this is joke music right?…. Right? Elvis Costello is my sleep paralysis demon, freezing me and singing goofily into my terrified face. This album is presented as Elvis Costello & The Attractions, I would have preferred it just be The Attractions. What an awful day to have ears. Possibly one of the most annoying voices I have ever heard. All around terrible experience that I wish I didn’t take part in. 1/10

how the fuck has elvis bastard costello got 3 albums on this list? i don't really have much against him but i've heard this ponies one trick way too many times already.

that voice

Pure garbage. The more I listen to it the more I hate his voice.

Boring

Didn't know those guys until now, they are not really my cup of tea. I don't have any song that struck with me. It's not bad, but nothing was mindblowing.

no idea how this record its influential and how this man is still making so many records. One of lifes greatest mysteries 1

Not sure what is the big deal with Elvis Costello. He’s basically a smug, insufferable version of Bruce Springsteen, without the working class earnestness. The whiny vocals grate after a while. Good drum work on the album though.

Elvis Costello wrote some good songs. Nowhere near as many as he or his diminished fan base will tell you. But mostly he’s a ‘not quite as talented as he thinks bore’. I suspect the stampeding elephants are meant to represent the power and strength of the music. To me it’s more like the dull thudding headache you get after wilfully exposing yourself to the ponderous pointless meanderings of the Costello oeuvre. David Lee Roth got it right - the reason rock critics love Elvis Costello is because he looks like most rock critics. Oliver’s army remains one of the greatest songs ever. There’s a couple on earlier albums - I don’t want to go to Chelsea and Veronica Watching the detectives is ok. The rest are at best twee. At worst forgettable mediocrity. Anyone can write one great song. Talent comes in at 4 or 5. The British new wave gave us compelling, unforgettable acts. Off the top of my head - the pretenders, the police, the cure, Lloyd Cole, Ian dury, the stranglers, the Irish boomtown rats, the list goes on. The wrong Elvis doesn’t make the cut. He was spoiled by the terrific Attractions, second only to the blockheads as a unit, but sadly with Costello, a band who were professional turd polishers.

ELVIS COSTELLO SAYS THE N WORD

Combining an annoying singing voice with a track listing of entirely forgettable songs that all bleed into one another is not exactly the best approach to an album, I have to say.

Never been a fan of Elvis Costello. His voice is very fatiguing and his playful pop approach to punk rock seems insincere at best.

Blei sur av å hørra på da

Not my cup of tea.

Not a big Elvis Costello fan. And this album did not help change that.

Are you sure these are the 1001 albums I need to hear before I die?

ik vond zijn stem zodanig irritant dat ik dit niet heb geluisterd, en van wat ik hoorde echt boring, niks bijzonders aan lmao

Nope. Couldn't finish this album. Really a pop album of it's time and I can't relate to it.

The shitty Elvis

gen x soundtrack, why does he say the n word? this sucked. Best song: accidents will happen

per sunku klausyt sory maikl

I cannot listen to this right now.

Annoying

Wow this is an annoying album. His voice is hard to listen to and the instruments compliment how bad it is. I'm not impressed with his lyrics, I don't take them as witty or clever. I'm also pretty surprised he just drops the n-word with a hard R. That definitely woke me up this morning.

I usually finish albums even if I don’t like them. I did not finish this one.

A few observations: (1) I was already thinking about how much I hated this album when Elvis C dropped an N-bomb and made my head snap up from the work I was doing to Google and make sure I heard him right. Unfortunately, I did. (2) The voice is even smarmier than normal. It's so bad. (3) There's lots of wordplay that compares love and war, which is sort of a timeless trope, so fair play, but it gets icky when we compare love and fascism. Stop it. (4) "You've got Chemistry Class / I want a piece of your...mind" might be a clever lyric in someone else's...hands, but not in his (see point 3). This album sucks

I find Elvis Costello's voice to be pretty annoying. Also, the instrumentation and lyrics seem to be pretty bland.

Kan vara att ja e sjuk o int har sovit ordentligt men dehä lät legit som de sämsta skitet nånsin?????

it’s elvis costello, all right

This album is unbearable.

Costello's voice sounds like what would result if you asked an AI to recreate Lenny Kravitz and it produced a soulless, uncanny-valley esque replica but also it kind of sounds squeaky and clown-like? If that wasn't enough there are some boggling songwriting decisions on this one - never mind several of the tracks borrow chord progressions from each other, ending a verse on you crooning 'garbage' or 'barbershop' with way too much vibrato is just odd and a little disconcerting. Never mind the fact Elvis thinks he has an n-word pass...

Don’t like his voice, don’t enjoy his music

My god that was a slog, just really annoying. Couldn't wait for it to be done. I've never liked Elvis Costello, mainly the voice. Irritating music.

ırkçı abilere tahammül yok

Not for me. I've never really understood the appeal.

did not enjoy it a bit. lame from beggining to end

I must not understand this album. The lyrics at times feel nonsensical, Elvis Costello's voice is okay at best but it's hard to even understand him sometimes, like he's putting on a slur for show. The tone of the album goes all over the place and doesn't flow at all. Disappointing.

Some of this album is fine. However, that's speaking strictly about the music in the background, which is alright in its own right. The main grievance is that the singer's voice is unbearable all the time, and it's the main focus in the majority of songs on this album. It sounds like he's trying too hard to sing or that he's plugging his nose. It's out of place most of the time.

Listening to this scarred me. Of all the voices that got fame...

Surprised by how modern the album sounds. Sounds like a 90s pop-rock album, but it's from '79. I enjoy the song "Party Girl"
