Reviews (page 14 of 14)
Mostly forgettable ballads. Generally, not my kind of music, but I did enjoy "It's Too Late" and "Smackwater Jack."
It sounds nice, but it's mostly ballads. It's not bad, just boring.
So I really wish I could give you guys a nice long review breaking down this album and the context and legacy that follows. Overall, here’s my honest review: this album is a very big deal with lots of influence. If you want to know more, then go research it yourself. For whatever reason, I don’t like her voice, I don’t like her style, and I don’t like her instrumentation. If I were to ever make a list of annoying songs I’d like to never hear again for as long as I’m alive, “Natural Woman” would definitely be somewhere on that list.
I can see why the album is popular in certain circles but jut not really mg sort of thing.
2+ Stars (6/15)
Album 5/10. Stimmlage angenehm, Gefühlslage gleichbleibend. Themen: Heimweh, Verpasstes, Liebe Titel, den ich noch hören will: Will you love me tomorrow
Boring af songer songwriter shlock, every song sounds the same. NNN
Artiste inconnue. Je ne suis pas trop fan de sa voix, et l'accompagnement n'est pas très original. Par contre quelques chorus intéressants. =>2/5
Easy listening - lovely voice and some nice songs. Not really my cup of tea but can see the appeal
idk
Yeah yeah yeah whatever, boring but essentially pretty... 2 stars
I feel like this is an album that your boomer mother/grandmother listened to endlessly in college. It's super dated and kind of lame. I've always liked I Feel the Earth Move but I'm not sure I can really say as much for the rest of the album. I can appreciate that she has a great voice and the album was recorded really well - the sound is fantastic. I just don't really like the music. Objectively, this album may be better than I'd rate it but for me, I struggle to give it any higher than a 2/5. I just can't really get on board with it.
mostly sleeeezy pop with a few rocky pearls in it, but they get drowned by... pop.
I've already heard this one. Didn't like it much.
Ground breaking release spurring on the women’s movement but I’m not a cat person. I’m a male and a dog lover!

A lot of people are clearly getting more or of this album then I am. High Americana, lots of classic soulful songs about love, does nothing for me. Smackwater Jack was interesting, the ear-catching line "the people were quite pleased, because the outlaw had been seized" especially. Still, my favourite song on the album, as it was the least like the others.
its nothing to me
..(.
I'd always assumed this was a folksy acoustic guitar singer songwriter album, but it's got a lot more fleshed out instrumentation than expected- the piano is dominant, with the often bass punctuating rather than carrying the rhythm, some tracks with congas/bongos and latin rhythms, acoustic guitars, flutes, and other kind of floaty instruments come in and out to adorn and jazz it up, some small doses of electric guitar leads give it a belated CA psychedelia flavor. Her voice is warm, relaxed, rich and well suited to the songs/arrangements. The recording sounds great. There are a few 'Oh, this is Carole King? huh' songs - familiar and ubiquitous, but not ones I'd ever really liked enough to look into. It's all very tasteful and adult and pleasant, just like all that early 70s chilled out James Taylor Joni Mitchell Cat Stevens Billy Joel Paul Simon easy listening stuff, but that means aesthetically conservative, predictable and kind of dull.
There are some very famous pop culture songs here, but I don't think the Carole King versions are the ones everyone knows. I think the Aretha Franklin versions are more well known (and better). She may have co-written some of these with her ex-husband or others (James Taylor) but the other singers are the ones I associate these songs with. I didn't find Carole King's voice very unique or very good. My wife said she might have been the Taylor Swift of her generation and that's almost true except I associate Taylor's songs with Taylor and not another artist. I do like the songs and I do appreciate that some of them were originally created by Carole King but I did not care much for this album.
I know this is full of popular hits, but early 70s female folky music all sounds alike to me and just isn’t my thing, and even worse, it reminds me of my mother-in-law.
I know that this album is loved by many, but it just makes me feel like I'm at the dentist's office or in an elevator. Not her fault. It's just the was her music has been used for the past fifty years.
Pfff....dit is wel een verzameling trage verouderde nummers zeg. De start met I Feel The Earth Move is misleidend. Maar heel af en toe komt er zo'n upbeat-nummer voorbij. Die zijn dan ook heel hard nodig.
2.5 Four syllables for you - ov-er-ra-ted. I really don’t understand why this album is so acclaimed; it’s the most middle-of-the-road soft rock music. Maybe that’s why it was so successful, in that it’s inoffensive and neutral enough to achieve a wide reach, but I find it too safe, uninteresting, and devoid of personality, with the closing track, (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman being case in point for me. I had no idea that Carole King originally wrote the song (any many others) before becoming a performer herself, so, she’s actually performing her own work here, but if you ask me, Aretha will always be the true artist of the song for the sheer amount of her soul and being she puts into it, something that I never really felt any song here. Really don’t have a ton much else to say on this one. I don’t think it’s bad by any means, but I find it very vanilla and uninteresting.
Clearly a great song writer given the surprising amount of hits on the album (even if they were more popular covered by others). Interesting but still not really my bag.
Music to quilt to
Idk, I guess I wasn't in the right headspace for this album but I just did not care for it.
Good, but I wasn't super into it.
was ok
Familiar, sure I’ve heard it used as soundtrack.
Can someone wake me up when this is over, please?

its ok not rly my style a little too singer/song writer-y
Ok ok ok. 1971 is not 2023. 2 years after Woodstock with the cat in the album cover. I can say I listened to it
I did not enjoy this album. It is generic, 70s, soft pop music. There were so many great albums during this period that it is hard not to compare this one to them. I will say that two songs did catch my interest. Favorite Song(s): "I Feel the Earth Move", "It's Too Late"
So far Elton John is the only singer who can make this genre of ballad songs from the 70’s palatable.shes a good singer, but didn’t do anything musically to catch my attention.
A couple of good tracks on this one but overall not my style of music. A few tracks really drag and meander.
I guess this is OK for what it is. It's not offensive, and I understand why people who like this kind of music would think it's great. For me, however, I find her voice extremely grating. It's sort of your boilerplate, folksy, easy listening, soft rock the early 70s is famous for. To be fair, this album might be one of the the reasons the early 70s is famous for this kind of music, so I don't really mean that as a critique. This is another album where I really wish there were half stars! I don't think it's 2 stars "bad," per se, but her voice is so annoying that it's hard to give it 3 stars to say it's "good." Ultimately, while I fully concede my own biases and that it's probably unfair to give this album 2 stars, I just cannot justify suggesting to anyone that this album is "good."
Favorites: It's Too Late Smackwater Jack I couldn't get really into it unfortunately, and my stomach hurts so bad so I think that lowers my score a bit.
Unpopular opinion but I think this album is overrated. It's Too Late is a good song but the rest is just isn't my jam. Give me Aretha Franklin's version of You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman everyday over King's version.
So that’s her name. I know the songs though
I didn't really listen to it, it isn't my style
Really meh on her vocals. Sad 70s vibes
Skip
I would categorize the music from this album as almost yacht rock meets doctor office light rock with elevator muzak.
She had a decent voice and was talented just not for me on a drive to work.
Beautiful voice, music is not my cup of tea. Smackwater Jack is a fun song
Pleasant enough. Way Over Yonder is a stand out track. Undeniably beautiful vocalist and classic song writer. Just a bit too nice for my usual taste! Filed under ‘Easy Listening’
Piano-driven singer-songwriter/pop album with a focus on the lyrics. Most of the songs on here didn’t keep my interest; they plodded along and seemed to go on for longer than they did. Her voice is fairly soulful but nothing special. I can see why this is on here as it sold a bunch of copies and her songwriting skills are evident, but it sent me to sleep in a bad way. I did really like Will You Still Love Me though.
Pretty amazing how many iconic tracks came from one woman. A perfectly pleasant album, but not much I'd listen to again
Jotenkin kaikilta osin keskinkertainen 2/5
Yks varsinainen hitti nousee esiin, muuten aika mitäänsanottamaksi jäi levy itelle. 2/5
Too sad and low
Not my thing
I was surprised to know a few of her songs
Had not heard of Carole King before and after hearing the first track I thought I would enjoy it more. However I didn't really like it, was very slow and felt quite bored by the end of it. Highlights: I Feel the Earth Move
Meh
2.5/5
Quite nice for the most part, wouldn't chose to play this over some other artists from that era though.
- Piano and vocals were pretty - Album cover has a cat - Doesn't have the energy I usually listen for - 2.5 - Favorite songs: Where You Lead, I Feel the Earth Move
Great songs. The mix is atrocious. Maybe it should be listened to in mono.
Relaxing vibes, but ultimately not to my taste. The lyrics on some of these songs have aged weird. I do like the cat in the album art. That cat is great.
Good for what it was, shame I'm not a fan of piano ballads Standouts: I Feel The Earth Move, It's Too Late, Will You Love Me Tomorrow? & (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman
ok
I’m sure this is objectively great but unfortunately I was quite bored :( You’ve Got a Friend slaps though
I listened to this several times, and I wanted to like it more than i fid. I couldn't quite place my f8nger on what was not connecting with me. But it feels like so many songs are familiar to me, but because they are better performed by other artists. Not fundamentally bad, bit also did nothing to hold my interest beyond the mystery of why I didn't like it.
Had some spots but just not my thing
-"I Feel the Earth Move" was an awesome opening track. It's upbeat, catchy, and the keyboards are cool throughout. The mini jam is pretty dope as well. Too bad it set far too high expectations for the album and the rest was kind of dissapointing -There was a big pause in "Will You Love Me Tomorrow?" where I totally thought there was going to be a drum fill and there wasn't any it made me sad -Lack of interesting stuff happening, just wanted to listen to something else
This is boring as hell. I get why people like it, but I don't listen to this genre in general because I'm an emotionless bastard. Maybe it'll click one day. 2/5 because I like the cat on the cover.
Snore. Dull af
Misschien dat ik dit vaker moet luisteren, maar het heeft na 1x draaien weinig indruk gemaakt.
Huske kje så masse
Langweilisch...
Not my bag, a little boring.
2.5
Eeeggghh... not a fan. Maybe just not my thing, but it just made me think of cheesy US sitcom themes. Maybe need to read up on CK, but I just didn't see what the big deal was.
zzzzzzzz
doesn´t feel very special to me; not a fan of her voice/way of singing either
Another album that made me wonder what they heard to make them include it on this list. Nothing of interest.
fuck the 70s. maybe it was all good at the time, but this just sounds like x factor auditions. every song i was trying to work out what the sob story was for that particular contestant. were they touched by an uncle? did they live with the ghost of michael jackson? did they get a ken doll stuck up their arse? there's a good chance all of those 3 scenarios are the connected but you get the drift. does radio 2 still play this kind of shit or have they fully moved on to cater for anyone too old for radio 1?
I love the whole vibe and the keys (especially on 'Smackwater Jack'), not massively my thing though. Recognised a few tracks. Awesome closer.
A very well-engineered and produced album. Not so terrible that I had to turn it off, but I never need to hear it again, either.
Just dull. Perhaps it's because it's been copied so much but it just felt clichéd and dull.
Part of it hit me, but the rest just felt like it wasn’t there.
Wouldn’t listen to the whole album again. Maybe 2 songs out of the 12 that I somewhat enjoyed.
Not bad but not my jam.
This was painfully difficult for me to listen to. This album created so many hit songs, and she is super talented, but I just really don't like 70s pop / soft rock.

Not my type of music
It's not for me. I get it and respect it though. Just not my era.
meh
Good songs generally, not really what I'm looking for though.
It’s not bad, it just has nothing that speaks to me.
not for me at all
No es mi estilo.
Talented but not for me
Boring
so boring
No me gusto la nt
hate carole king--too mainstream in a bad way
Shit
Not my favorite type of music personally. Smackwater Jack, which was noticeably uptempo compared to the rest of the album, was my favorite here. Way over Yonder wasn't bad either but otherwise just not for me
Who the fuck cares about this music in the year of our lord 2025. Unless I’m committing suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning via Prius, I’ll never listen to this again.
Not for me
Not good
wishlist
N O NO.
Boomer core!
No fan of Carole King.
I admire the songwriting, but don't like it
I tried. Again. I really tried. And I’m sorry, Mom, and Erin, and LB, and all the super strong women I know who think of Carole as the troubadour of their girl power, but I’m still just a nope.
Dry
shits ass light 1/10
My mother loves this stuff, so I gave it a shot. Unfortunately, it is so, so dull.
God were the first 2 tracks annoying on this thing.
Gave up on this before the end. I can hear that she can write a song or two, but the piano and voice just went on and on in the same tone and with the same dynamic throughout. And it all sounds so seventies. Guess I’m not really a singer-songwriter kind of person. Even when the band joins in it doesn’t really take the songs somewhere else.
Boring album. I listened to half of it and got bored. Too slow for me, I’m sure it’s a great album it’s just not my style whatsoever.
Nope
Tapestry is not my bag baby. Neither are smelly hippies. I would bet my life on it too that the pussy you can’t see in this picture has a lot more fur than the one in the foreground. Wednesday Adams hasn’t aged well at all! The cat unfortunately developed a severe coke habit not long after this shoot and made some terrible life choices. Last reported to have moved in with Alec Baldwin. Missing presumed shot by ‘mistake’
Not for me, I do not like her voice or the songs, I do not really care to listen but respectfully will endure. 'It's too late' is a good song but I'd rather someone else sang it.
Fun happy sound, and even recognized a few of the songs. Kind of ruined it when I heard the title song for gilmore girls, lol. Probably won't listen again or dig into her other work.
