I go into each album with an open mind and always give them a shot, even if I can tell it's not going to be my thing. I finally found myself wanting to skip ahead, thinking that I must be a decent way through the album by this point, BUT IT WAS STILL THE FIRST SONG. I love me some 90s electronica and trip hop and can appreciate the trailblazing aspect of an album like this, but having just seen that the album runs nearly two hours in length, I don't think I will be listening to the whole thing.

A bit weird and other-worldly, but absolutely engaging.

Historically significant with a few bangers, but many of the songs sound the same.
Started off strong but lost me as the album went on. Love the first track, though!
Production sounds good, but this just isn't my cup of tea.
This album slaps. I knew most of the tracks already, but there were two songs I wasn't familiar with (Four Sticks and Going to California) so it was great to hear some new content. Loved it!
A pleasant surprise!
I think the problem I have with this style of music is that I forget it by the time it's over - it just sounds like background coffee shop music to me. Great for when I want music but don't want to actually pay attention to what I'm listening to.
'Rumour Has It' and 'Rolling in the Deep' are great, but I found the rest of the album to be composed of mostly forgettable ballads. Great voice, though!
A bit too whiny for my taste.
Skipped 'Hello' right off the bat, as I heard it a lot when it first came out and never liked it. With this album, I had a similar reaction as I did to Adele's 21: I skipped many of the songs about halfway through, as I found them pretty boring. I did like 'I Miss You', though. Saved that song, but won't be revisiting this album.
I think this is my favourite version of 'Hallelujah' that I've heard. A lovely album.
I dig it! Nice surprise.
Groovy.
Not my favourite album of theirs, but definitely some bangers.
Nope. Absolutely not. Over three hours long - are you kidding me? Didn't make it past the first track.
Reminds me of the build music from The Sims.
Not for me.
I dig the punk-folk hybrid; great energy. Some songs hit more than others - will definitely save a couple of songs!
I never want to listen to this again.
Recognized a couple of songs here. This album is mostly more lively than those of some other singer-songwriters of the same era on this list - I'm just not really a fan of the genre. I likely won't relisten.
Hello, high school. A fun trip back in time.
I liked a few songs in the first half, but the album lost me as it went on.
I didn't realize this album was released in the early 80s - not the 90s.
I wouldn't have guessed that this was released in 1975!
I liked the first track but the album soon lost my interest. I love me some 70s dad rock but this was pretty forgettable. I won't be listening to it again.
I just can't get through these Nick Cave albums.
Funky!
Not a fan of Billy Corgan's voice, but I dig the album!
Turns out I like Iron Maiden.
Nope.
I was prepared to dislike this, but I ended up enjoying a few of the tracks and have saved them to my 80s playlist.
This was great.
Loved it! Enjoyed the instrumental tracks bookending the album.
I found this pretty bland and uninteresting. Every song sounded the same, and it the album couldn't keep my attention. Did not finish.
This project has conditioned me to expect the worst when I see an unfamiliar electronic album from the 80s or 90s. Not as terrible as some others, but definitely won't relisten.
Gimme Shelter slaps - probably my favourite Stones track. I'm less of a fan of all the blues-y stuff in the middle, but the album finishes strong with You Can't Always Get What You Want.
I'm not sure if I enjoyed this or not.
The sound/production quality on this album is much better than other live albums I've had on my list, but I'd still rather listen to a studio version. That being said - great energy and great tracks!
Good stuff.
If you were to ask me if I've ever listened to this album, I'd say no, because I have retained no memory of it. Clearly not my jam.
Very Coldplay-esque. A couple of songs stood out that I'll save.
Goofy lounge singer stuff.
Excellent. No notes.
I find Billy Corgan's voice a bit grating but a lot of these songs really slap.
Wow. Big surprise that this lost out to Portishead's Dummy for the 1995 Mercury Prize.
Surprised to find that I enjoyed a few of these tracks. I don't think I will seek this album out to listen to again in the future, but it's always funny to find that I enjoy an artist that I have actively avoided in the past.
For the people who enjoy this style of jazz, I'm sure this is a great album, but I find this style of jazz blends into the background and I don't absorb it. Just not my thing!
In general, I personally don't see the appeal of live albums - especially for a band I'm not familiar with outside of 'Smoke on the Water.' Instead, I listened to some of their other studio recordings. Love me some 70s Dad Rock.
Every track sounded the same (boring.)
Inoffensive lounge/coffee shop music.
I think I've heard this album while waiting on hold with my bank.
WOW what a unique album. I loved the blend of indigenous voices, metal, and drum rhythms.
Another album I was surprised to see was older than I thought! I really enjoyed this one.
What a talent! Love this.
10/10 no notes
Starts out strong with Tiny Dancer, but the rest of the album is pretty meh.
The hits slap, but I can see why I've never heard some of these tracks.
Dying at the album art for this one. Saved to my 80s Bangers playlist: "Lucretia My Reflection", "This Corrosion"
A couple of bangers, but album goes on for far too long.
Not my favourite Beatles album, but definitely some bangers.
I just don't find this style of jazz engaging; music for when I want something on in the background but don't want to be distracted.
Again, not my favourite Beatles album, but a fascinating look into how their music changed over the decade or so they were together. I hate Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da with a passion.
I really liked the lead single, but none of the other tracks really grabbed me.
This slaps
Did not finish.
This slaps.
The kind of Dad rock I don't like.
Interesting mix of sounds and influences.
Well, that was depressing.
Turns out I've heard more Def Leppard songs than I'd thought.
Eric Clapton is problematic, but this album really does slap. I love the bluesy-psychedelic nature of it.
Toe-tapping psychobilly. I loved this from start to finish!
I like a lot of David Bowie's earlier music, but this album didn't grab me.
I found this pretty boring; not a huge singer-songwriter fan in general.
Totally forgettable for me.
I've never listened to REM aside from the odd single that I would hear on the radio or at bars, not quite grasping the appeal. Sitting down and listening to this album in its entirety has really piqued my interest! Definitely going to explore this group more, and revisit this album.
I've never understood the appeal of Elvis Costello.
Not a single standout track for me.
Good production but likely won't relisten.
Never heard of this band - this album was a pleasant surprise!
Reminiscent of a 90s video game soundtrack. Only made it halfway through the album before giving up. Why is this significant enough to be on the list?
"Shining Star" and "Africano" both slap. Definitely saving those to my playlists. I didn't enjoy any of the slower songs (most of the rest of the album.)
Mostly forgettable ballads. Generally, not my kind of music, but I did enjoy "It's Too Late" and "Smackwater Jack."
No, thanks.
Interesting inclusion of classical elements (i.e. the organ on "The Only Way [Hymn]") but, overall, I found this discordant and it put me on edge.
Early hints of 80s New Wave in 1979. Will save 'Quiet Life', but I don't think I'll revisit this album.
Not a fan of the slower songs like She's Out of My Life, but an overall enjoyable album.
We Are Family slaps, but the rest of the album is pretty ho hum.
Country music generally isn't my thing, but I do enjoy some of this older stuff.
No.
Interesting concept, but won't revisit.
I'm more familiar with some of Arcade Fire's other albums (e.g. Reflektor and Funeral) but hadn't listened to this one front to back. Loved it, especially the parts with the organ.
I know a lot of AC/DC songs sound the same but, honestly, this still slaps.
I listened to the whole thing in a daze of morbid fascination, intending to skip it entirely after listening to the first track and seeing what I was in for. However, the weirdness was strangely hypnotic and I just kept letting it play. Dissonant and bizarre. I doubt I will ever listen to this album again, but that was certainly an experience.
I like some of blur's singles that I've come across over my years, but these whole albums haven't grabbed me at all.
I really enjoyed this!
An album already in my regular rotation.
Reminds me a lot of Joni Mitchell, whose music has never really grabbed me.
I'm generally not a fan of reggae but this album had a few bangers - some I've never heard before. I just find that a lot of the songs tend to sound the same and it gets boring after a while.
No.
Nearly all the tracks go on for a few minutes too long. I've enjoyed Block Rockin' Beats since hearing it on Big Shiny Tunes 2, but even that track I usually find I can't listen all the way through.
NO.
Disliked the skits and a lot of the interludes. I went into it only knowing the singles that came from this album, but I've found another couple bangers. However, once I realized that the album was over two hours long, I checked out.
No.
No.
Nostalgia! I've never actually listened to this album apart from the singles - fun album!
Not much variation between songs; everything kind of blended together.
Hauntingly beautiful.
I'm less of a fan of some of the down-tempo stuff, but when they slap, they slap. Plus, it's always fun to come across a song sample in the wild.
I've been pooh-poohing a lot of singer-songwriters on this list, but I'm starting to realize that I don't dislike the genre as a whole - just certain artists. Every Nick Drake album I've listened to (so far) as part of this project has been a delight.
Some 50s rock n'roll bangers, but I wouldn't listen to the album front to back again, as it gets quite repetitive (even with its only ~25 minute runtime.)
I really enjoyed this!
I actually quite liked the first song but things went downhill after that.
I was apprehensive of this album, as I've not really enjoyed the Kate Bush music I've heard previously. I feel like this one has potential to grow on me through additional plays. Will definitely revisit! Best song: Rocket's Tail
Very of its era. Hit and miss for me.
Less depressing than the other Nick Cave album(s) I've listened to so far, but I just can't get into this.
The album became more interesting once the first track was over. I did save "Glass Museum" but I likely won't relisten to this album as a whole.
Early Coldplay slaps.
I have a great memory of listening to this album while flying; as we came in for landing at my home airport, the plane banked and the sunlight broke through the clouds just as You And Whose Army reached its crescendo. Chills. I love this album.
Pretty bland
No idea what the lyrics are, but the music itself is great.
I didn't understand a word, but the beats were fire.
Great cover of 'I'm a Man'!
Made it to the 20-minute mark before shutting it off. No thanks.
Really unique voice, but I found the album pretty ho-hum.
Reminded me a bit of Lou Reed at times.
The Kinks are a funny group for me - so much of their music slaps but then some goofy shit comes along and it loses me.
The hits that I've previously heard are the only tracks that stuck with me.
Hell yeah. I fully acknowledge that this album can be a bit of a slog to listen to in one sitting, as a lot of the songs sound the same, but it's great.
Groovy. I hadn't heard most of the songs on this album. Great voice.
The Doors are very hit and miss for me.
A bit weird and other-worldly, but absolutely engaging.
Iconic album cover. As a Beatles fan, I listen to a few of the later albums regularly, but always enjoy coming back to their earlier stuff to see how much they evolved over the decade or so they were making music. An album full of great pop hits.
Interesting listen but I don't think I'll seek this out for another round.
Saved the last track to my 90s Bangers playlist, but probably won't relisten to this one.
I had high expectations for this one, knowing the buzz around it, but I found it boring aside from Doo Wop (That Thing), which continues to slap.
While I know and enjoy the title track, my assumption that this album would be a bit of a repetitive slog to get through was proven correct. Another album that is best to pick and choose from, rather than listening to the whole thing front to back. That being said, the cover of Comin' Home Baby slaps.
Having only been exposed to singles on the radio, I've been pleasantly surprised by how much I've enjoyed the REM albums I've listened to as part of this project. Catchy riffs and interesting lyrics.
I just don't get jazz.
This was great!
I just can't with this guy. Did not listen.
No.
Atmospheric with some interesting elements, but I don't know if I'll seek this one out again.
I already knew 'Cry to Me' and 'If You Need Me' so I expected to enjoy this one. Delightful!
Really grabbed my attention with the first track with Thom Yorke, and kept it through to the end of the album.
I enjoyed this Blur album more than the other ones I've listened to as part of this project (Parklife & Modern Life is Rubbish) Definitely seeing some shades of Gorillaz in a few of the tracks.
Pretty goofy stuff.
That was a quick one! James Brown is great but I wouldn't listen to this live album again.
A few of these fell flat for me (First Time Ever I Saw Your Face, Bridge Over Troubled Water) but this was otherwise a hauntingly beautiful collection of tracks. Got chills with the closing track (We'll Meet Again).
I read Patti Smith's memoir 'Just Kids' in university, so it was interesting to tie this album into that context. That being said, I don't particularly enjoy her voice or her music.
I can see why Ain't No Other Man and Candyman were released as the singles for this album; none of the other tracks really grabbed me.
Listening to this made me realize that I have heard more Def Leppard songs than just 'Pour Some Sugar on Me' (which is a certified banger.) I'm less of a fan of the ballads, but I enjoyed this album much more than I thought I would.
Didn't understand 99% of the lyrics, but this was a delightfully dreamy pop journey.
Peter Gabriel singing Coldplay.
Meh
From what little Billy Joel I've listened to, I was dreading this album, and it was just as tedious as I expected.
I've heard 'Sultans of Swing' on the radio a million times but never bothered to look up more of Dire Straits' music. Such a unique guitar character - I really enjoyed this one!
Far too long, but a groundbreaking album considering the climate it was released in.
I get a kick out of how normal this sounds to me now vs. how it must have sounded to people when it was released. I really liked this one!
Blends into one 55-minute song
Despite my general disdain for live albums, I found myself tapping my toes a couple of times.
Another album where I find that I recognize more songs than I thought I would - namely the incredibly grating riff in Walk of Life.
There's definitely a bit of nostalgia factor with this one, as it was in heavy rotation for me in high school when it came out, but it holds up 21 years later.
Love Peter Gabriel's voice, but some of these tracks I can leave; production is very much of its time. Sledgehammer and In Your Eyes are the obvious stand-outs.
I think there are stronger albums in their discography, but this is definitely a Radiohead album.
I made it to track #4 before tapping out.
I couldn't get past the singer's voice. Did not finish.
This was great! Short n' sweet. Saved to my library.
Ugh, jazz.
Did not finish. Pretty forgettable.
Interesting listen! Nice to have a bit of variety after a string of mediocre Brit rock, and to hear something I would never have listened to on my own.
I was expecting more from this one.
Audibly groaned when I saw this one come up. I will admit that I enjoy the title track but the rest of the album is just so boring.
Turns out I like Rush.
Coming back to rate this a few days after listening and couldn't tell you anything about it,
Not terrible, but I don't think I'll listen to this one again.
Can't quite put my finger on why I'm not enjoying this, but it's not doing it for me.
Great cover art.
Pretty forgettable.
ABBA is very hit and miss for me but, when it slaps, it slaps.
Did not finish
This slaps.
Pretty forgettable 70s soft rock.
Did not finish.
Disappointed that I haven't been able to locate this album anywhere, as it sounds interesting. Listened to some individual tracks instead - nice sound!
Pretty unremarkable for me.
Called it at the second track. What is with the proliferation of bad British electronica on this list?!
While I'm a big Beatles fan, I've found the guys' solo work to be pretty ho hum. That said, I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. Some shades of The Beatles' White Album on 'Look at Me.'
I love Frank Sinatra but a whole album of sad boi in one sitting is a bit much.
Recognized more than just 'Free Bird.' Enjoyed more than I thought I would! =
Didn't know this group aside from their big single. Mostly forgettable dance tracks but a few other bangers.
Did not finish
Great way to start a Monday morning! Upbeat and funky.
His voice on this album certainly isn't what it was.
Pretty generic 70s dad rock. I enjoyed this but the album is too long. I'm really enjoying reading the 1-star reviews.
Started off strong with the first track, but lost me on the spoken parts.
This was great! Added to library.
Pretty rough to listen to today.
I thought the low ratings were exaggerating.
I think, after listening to a couple of U2 albums as part of this project, that I have to admit that U2 isn't all that bad after all.
Every song sounds exactly the same.
I truly don't get the appeal of The Smiths.
I think I could have died without listening to this.
I find this style of jazz too discordant and scattered. The lack of structure puts me on edge.
Up-tempo tracks slap, not so much the slower tracks.
With a very few choice exceptions, I don't see the appeal of live albums. I don't get a real sense of the music and the audience noise is often obnoxious.
Bland.
Another album I could definitely have died without having listened to.
Good riffs but good grief do these guys need to go to horny jail.
DNF
Inoffensive, but won't relisten.
This album is all over the place.
No way I'm listening to this for nearly three hours.
President's Choice David Bowie.
I had this album as a kid. I will echo some of the other sentiments I've seen here about the slut-shaming lyrics and the album not aging well.
No.
I'd much rather listen to Gorillaz.
Weird and I dig it!
Not great.
Could tell from the first track that this wasn't for me. Did not finish.
No.
I thought I'd enjoy this more than I did.
