Some Beatles songs I hadn't heard before, was over very quickly

It's hard to rate Beatles albums objectively. It's obviously very good but suffers from being approximately half covers (which are still good performances). A 3.5 that I'll rate a 4

So this was their 2nd album eh? What can you say about the Beatles ever that hasn't been said already? Nothing, so we'll leave it there shall we?

pretty uninspired '60s blusey rock with vocals you'll definitely recognize. cool to compare this record to their later stuff but this is far from a standout album, especially compared to the numerous similarly-shaped ones on this list

Well, somewhat cheesey, but of it's time. Signs of things to come but not something I'll willingly play.

Please Mister Postman is the solid highlight, another great album but not quite as good as Sgt Peppers. 4/5.

What a bop! Covers very rarely live up to the originals, and this is no exception, though they sure do come close. Definitely a strong 4/5.

It's so strange to hear so many covers on a Beatles album. That said, even the covers are exceptionally well done. It is The Beatles, after all. They almost lost a star for covering "Please Mr. Postman" which just doesn't work from a boy band but they gained it back with a great cover of "Money" which was an unexpected joy. The main reason this album gets a four-star review instead of a five-star review is because the listening experience is dominated by the songs that The Beatles covered rather than by the songs they wrote. And, from writing monsters like this - even this early in their career - that's a shame.

A good album. Not the best Beatles, but even ok Beatles are pretty great

I love the Beatles, so this will score well, but it is so early in their career that they hadn't quite developed into the band they became. Lots of cover versions, which is odd when they had three of the best songwriters (and Ringo). Thus does include the first Harrison song on an LP though, which is interesting. All the songs are good or great, and all are pretty much part of life in Britain. I prefer their later stuff, when they were exploring the fringes of modern music and developing the future, but still love this. It is both good in its own right, and an interesting snapshot of the biggest band in the world, ever, just as they claimed that title.

It’s hard, even for me, to realise the importance of the Beatles at the time. They were my favourite group from age 5 to about 17. This isn’t their best music but without this they wouldn’t have done what they did. It has to be 4*

Struggled to rate as always with albums like this. I've never heard this album before and yet knew the majority of the songs... on the whole, I enjoyed it. Somewhere between 3-4 stars for me but as we can't do half stars I'll go for 3. Stripped down a bit and it'd be a 4.

Early Beatles isn't the best, but it's still amazing.

It's probably my least favourite Beatles album and a further listen today hasn't changed that view. Sure there are some good tracks but there's something about it that doesn't resonate, hence it rarely gets played. Actually the song I most enjoyed was 'Don't bother me' (George Harrison's first song) which has a moody breezy feel. I think it's because it's not a major/minor song (looked it up and it's verse is E Dorian mode) plus some Latin percussion. Overall I would call this the Beatles soul album and there's a clear Motown influence, especially in the John Lennon sung tracks. I also like the inspired acoustic performance of the standard 'Til there was you' plus 'All my loving' sounds like a #1, had it been released as a single. 3 seems a bit harsh for the stuff I do like, so given it a 4.

At the height of Beatlemania, anything would have sold over a million copies! Content-wise, as much as I love The Beatles and know of this album, the covers are good (they'd be awesome live), and All My Loving is still a great foot-tapper! Their best was yet to come...

I’m not a fan of The Beatles to begin with. Some songs were fine. I wouldn’t go out of my way to listen to this again. I tried to put myself in the frame of mind for the time this was written.

All my loving, Postman, Beethoven and Money are great, but I'm not particularly impressed with the other songs - very so-so. I don't think the Beatles hit their stride until their third LP, the awesome Hard Days Night.

Pioneers

Generally a bigger fan of their later stuff. Got this album for Christmas 20-some years ago. Like "Til There was You" and some of the hits are fine from time to time. I guess I can see how they came to be huge from this album, but it does not standout amongst their later work. There was also a strict rule back in 1963 on track length with nothing here clocking in over 3 minutes.

More of the pre-drug Beatles, but I liked it. Upbeat.

Can hardly believe I'm giving this score, but if wasn't for the Beatles name it might even be lower, found this album boring and dated, all my loving has a bit of foot tapping to it, but have to be objective

This is hard. On one hand, it's the Beatles, a band that has contributed enormously to the quality of my life, and my understanding of music and expression generally - I am not a casual fan. On the other, With The Beatles is perhaps the least impactful album in their entire catalog. Sure, there are hits here, but it's more like a photocopy of the formula from Please Please Me than it is a 'new record', and the innovations the band would spearhead in the coming years only underscores the analogy. Listening to it again I find myself wanting to cherry pick tracks (or listen to Please Please Me instead) rather than soldiering on. And how good is it if I'm characterized the listening as 'soldiering on'?

All due respect to Paul McCartney's recent comment that The Rolling Stones are basically a blues cover band, this sophomore album from the Fab Four that has nearly half of its fourteen tracks as covers is great. While not a fan of their earlier works, The Beatles tapped into a vein that changed the direction of pop music and this disc is evidence.

I LOVE the Beatles. But these songs all sounded the same to me. But what gives them a pass here is that you can listen to their later stuff and see how they used this stage of their career as the foundation for what would come later. THAT'S greatness.

The Beatles couldn't make a bad album if they tried. There are always at least a few perfect pop songs in every album (excluding Yellow Submarine). In their American debut, this is no exception. You can easily see why they would be a sensation, with back-to-back pop masterpieces, for teens to bop to, for other artists to replicate. Songwriting is among the best of the era, exciting and full of easy-to-follow stories with many ways for the audience to participate in singing along. From the very start, you get a fistful of energy in "It Won't Be Long" that's really hard not to sing too. If you're in public, you might just get away with mumbling some "yeahs." Second track shows a calmer side to Lennon. The third track is my favorite track, introducing McCartney's soulful voice as if reaching into the soul, already showing the dynamic contrast between the two main vocalists. The covers are actually really great here. They're very popular soul and classic rock n roll songs that work incredibly well with their style. They truly make songs like "Please Mister Postman" and "You Really Got a Hold On Me" their own. "Roll over Beethoven" is a great adaption that's true to form, and I had no idea "Money" was a cover until I searched it up. The only cover I wasn't a big fan of was "Devil in Her Heart," but it's still much much better than the original. Speaking of which, there were several songs that felt very much like filler. The momentum dies out by the time you get to the last four songs. Poor Ringo in "I Wanna Be Your Man" only gets the scraps that shouldn't belong on a studio album. Good but not overall not as great as the Beatles albums that bookend it. I find some of the cover versions on here a bit underdone. Difficult second album syndrome perhaps, which makes it their weakest album for me. Blasphemous or not, I actually prefer Meet The Beatles to this.

Enjoyed this more than I thought I would. It has no classic/recognisable beatles tracks but it's still decent, and it's more of a coherent full album than some of their later stuff

Amazing to hear the extent to which the Beatle's sound changes in just a few years. This album is such a great pop music showpiece.

This is not the best Beatles album by a stretch and Little Child has not aged well... BUT it is the Beatles and all music can be traced back to their influence, you can't convince me otherwise! Not a second time and Please mister postman BANGERS, loved listening!

Hard to know what to say about the Beatles. I've never really been a massive Beatles fan, I like them as much as the next person but you just can't deny how good they are really.

Personal rating id probably but it as a 4. I started this list trying to be objective but have moved to subjective for my own tastes. So 4 it is.

Had not heard this Beatles album before but I liked it. Good collection of tunes with some energy.

1963. My parents were 8 years old when this album came out. I've listened to the Beatles in "passing" over the years. I've always enjoyed them. I've watched a few of the documentaries made about them over the years. I have often wondered what John Lennon would be like today. Anyway, back to this album. All I've got to do- Feels loving, feels like being hugged in a warm sweater by someone you haven't seen in years but dearly miss. I love how you can really hear the clarity of each instrument in their songs. This album reminds me of how LOVE healthy love can be simple and pure. I love the simplicity and wholesomeness in the lyrics of a lot of these "silly little love songs". They feel sincere. I don't care if it's not. It feels that way and I enjoy letting this era transport me to simpler times. This album tastes like milkshakes and burgers post sock hop dance. I can totally understand BeatleMania. I will continue to enjoy the Beatles throughout the rest of my life. I'm sure there will be more albums of theirs throughout this project. Looking forward to it. Ya'll really got a hold on me.

Never been crazy about early Beatles stuff. I get how important these albums are from a historical point of view, but musically it just doesn't do it for me.

What shall we say, it's The Beatles. It's really old and sounds old, yet it aged well and is still good music today. It was very noticeable how this album is from the beginning of their career, without all the experimentalism that came later on. It didn't have any of my Beatles favorites, but there weren't any bad ones on here either.

even as a huge beatles mark i can't in good honesty endorse what is in competition for the most unnecessary beatles album ever.

Good album, more pop and love songs than their earlier stuff.

With The Beatles by The Beatles (1963) In retrospect, With The Beatles had all the elements that would establish The Beatles as the generation-defining musical group they would ultimately become. They would be no flash in the pan. Delicately exploring variations from standard chord structures, they were innovating without leaving the audience behind. They performed with flawless rhythm and grounding. And their melodies were and remain inspiring. The album is not without its flaws. The vocals lack maturity and discipline (especially in doubling dubs, the percussive ‘wows’ and ‘yeahs’, and a few diction flubs). The engineering is stuck in a formulaic rut, with instrumentals in the left channel and vocals in the right (exception: “Money”—the best mix on the album). Almost sixty years later, some of this sounds quaint. But nostalgically quaint. The most soulful original lyric is George Harrison’s “Don’t Bother Me”—the rest are relatively shallow, zeroed in on romantic adolescent male desire. It’s no wonder these songs drove the girls crazy. Their covers of other artists’ songs (six of the fourteen tracks on this record) are usually not as as strong as the originals, and the Lennon/McCartney vocal blend needed development (especially when they sang in unison). But all the essential elements were there—solid guitar by Harrison, and instinctively tight rhythm by Ringo Starr (drums) and Paul McCartney (bass) with vocal and rhythm guitar leadership by John Lennon all put together the complete rock and roll package. The musical standout on this album is “All My Loving”. Listening on headphones for the first time, I was pleased to discover the importance of the sixteenth note played by Harrison on electric rhythm guitar just before the beginning of each measure in the verse, but left off at the start of each phrase. He creates a rhythmic anticipation that drives the already rapid pace. Underrated genius here. He was only twenty years old. While not the best of The Beatles, this work stands as a rock and roll staple, and provides tremendous explanatory power for much of what followed. It shouted, “Wait till you hear what’s coming, folks.” 4/5

It fell flat for me. The energy felt lame. It really did feel like a boy band aimed at the teen. Maybe I wasn’t there target audience. Maybe I am just not into the beetles’ earlier work.

The Beatles' first huge hit. A classic that I've listened to hundreds of times. Can't get much better in 1963, that's for sure.

This is a fine album. Beautiful vocals, gorgeous, harmonies, first rate songs and and tight playing. Not sure who's decision to have the stereo mix as vocals hard right, instruments hard left but I do hate it. Is there a mono mix available for this album? If so I would love to hear it. That's the one thing that keeps this from a straight up 5 star album...4,75 stars

Still during the early period where half the songs were original, the others were covers. This record doesn't really stand out for me. It's better than the stagnant "For Sale," but I like Please Please Me and A Hard Day's Night better. So, this one is great but it's sandwiched between better records. What I like about these early records is that you can hear Lennon's talent and leadership. He was the frontman in the early years. "All I've Got To Do" is one of my favorite Beatles harmonies from the early years. I can't wait to rate A Hard Day's Night. Assuming it's on the list. Ha. Rating this one as it compares in the Beatles catalog (catalogue?).

I know it's probably blasphemous to give this a 3, but I think that might even be pushing it. This one may be my least favorite of the Beatles' albums. I get that it's "early Beatles" - but it's still not as good as their first album. Everybody gets a sophomore slump - no love lost, boys.

I hate to not give a 5 to a Beatles album, but this was one of their earlier works where they were still doing some covers and it shows. While I find this record to be short and sweet, there are a few songs that I could do without. Nothing is "bad", but a few songs are skippable if they come on during shuffle mode.

3.5, just sort of fades into the background for me. Bumping down because it's the Beatles, I'm expecting this to be rated higher that it deserves.

3.5 - This one shows the Beatles' humbler beginnings as a house band that had dialed in the 2.5 minute pop rock format. A couple classics, a couple duds, some unremarkable covers.

I'm kind of surprising myself with how low of a score I'm going to give this. It is still the Beatles, and there are glimpses of their genius in this album, but the songs are for the most part not that good or covers that are worse than the originals.

A boy band releases their second album, 14 tracks, most not bothering two and a half minutes in duration and almost half of the tracks are covers. No one could get away with that these days. Our standards are much higher. With The Beatles is a good pop album but the 1960s production gives every track a samey feeling, like if every meal you ate was a delicious chocolate pudding. Tasty, but not necessarily what you'd want to eat all the time. A curious thing - the double-tracked vocals sometimes give a spooky feeling, like reverb-heavy "dead mall" edits of popular songs. The perfect soundtrack for a liminal space. The reassuring thing is that this was not even the Beatles best recording - they still had a lot of room to grow.

Way more familiar tunes than I expected but a couple of naff tracks as well.

Forgot about Til there was you too (Cooky may have played this?). Enjoyed the album whilst tapping my foot although still think I prefer the later Beatles stuff!

Interesting to see another of their early albums here. I don't give these enough listens honestly. This album is just full of classic songs.

Surprisingly underwhelming! And it’s been five stars all the way so far for The Beatles. That said, you can see the sparks of genius in tracks such as It Won’t Be Long, All My Loving and Not a Second Time - this band are experimenting with the form already and the playing is exemplary. The covers are fun but only fine.

Without context, this rough collection of underwritten ditties is a 2. But knowing the whole and why, this becomes a 4.5.

Although not as great as their debut it´s still a great album in their discography.

Really enjoyed the music though I found the mix kind of distracting where the majority of the instrumentation was coming from the left and the majority of the vocals from the right. It seemed like they were playing too hard with the stereo idea and that little shift might work but I found this shift so dramatic as to be distracting. I listened via headphones which also may have heightened the effect over the type of amplification that might have been used to playback this music in the era it was made. Listened to the album a second time not using headphones and the effect worked out much better though I still found it to be more pronounced than necessary.

Contrasting album. Some pieces are really good: All my loving, Don't bother me, Hold me Tight and You really got a hold on me. Some others are absolute trash, like Little Child, Mr Postman and I wanna be your man. Not the album you introduce someone to the Beatles with. Also, many of these aren't even originals of theirs.

This is probably the most forgettable Beatles album... but it's a Beatles album.

Early Beatles are not my favourite. The album was good but very simple. I prefer their later releases where the band has pushed many boundries of music. This is fine.

A fine Beatles album but not one of my favourites

In my opinion, this is one of the more lackluster Beatles albums. Side 1 is pretty decent, especially opening with It Won't Be Long, and All My Loving is an early era staple. It tried to act as a superior follow up to their "Please, Please Me" and just doesn't have the same energy or powerhouse track list. While the majority of songs are originals, there are hardly any that hold up in the scope of The Beatle's catalogue. The covers are also subpar save for "Please Mister Postman" and "Roll Over Beethoven", but they are better served in the original recordings. I can appreciate it for propelling Beatlemania even further, but as a creative work it just doesn't do it for me. Favorite Songs: It Won't Be Long, All My Loving Least Favorite: Devil In Her Heart

it’s the Beatles so of course it’s amazing, not my absolute fave of theirs but you can never go wrong with them.

Hard to criticize anything by The Beatles, even if this particular platter is not something I'd put on too often. This is definitely "early Beatles" with their late 50s influences prominent - vocal harmony laden clean-guitar-driven pop songs. That's no insult and there's really no criticism here - nobody did it like this before and almost nobody has done it this well since. "All My Loving" is probably the biggest / most famous one here amidst roughly half originals/half cover tunes. Even though I vastly prefer their later style it's still great art of the time (1963) - it just doesn't give me chills. It's a nice easy-listening experience with great vocal harmonies. i.e. the only reason I'm putting it at 3 stars is personal preference. 7/10 3 stars

Its a pretty simple album, but genuinly enjoyable and fun. its not trying to be something greater than it is, but its still a well made pop album with some fun compositions and covers.

Good album… sounds like a breakout to American Rock n Roll

Another great Beatles album. I was nervous since this was an older one and I'm not a huge fan of their old stuff but again, I hadn't listened to any of it fully. I really liked this one too, not as much as Revolver, but still up there. All my Loving, Please Mister Postman, Roll Over Beethoven and even some others all stood out to me. Parts of this album felt just right for when it came out but other parts seemed ahead of their time. Pretty cool album cover too but nothing special.

Now this is interesting. The Beatles when they were shite. Listening to this album, I started laughing very quickly. “All I’ve Got to Do” is comically stupid. I kinda liked it though, and I had to save a few of the famous covers like “Mr. Postman” and “Roll Over Beethoven.” Hearing John or Paul (don’t know or care which honestly) on the latter track attempt the “woo” that Little Richard would do belongs in a museum of cringe, in the same wing as Mickey Rooney in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. As an album, this is generally super lame. Important to hear as far as their evolution is concerned, but in isolation, and some 60 years later, it’s pretty awful. Like the Everly Brothers if the Everly Brothers were terrible at singing and harmonizing and pronounced “Beethoven” really strangely. Favorite tracks: Til There Was You, Please Mr. Postman. Album art: Appropriately boring. How were these guys a boy band that drove the world wild? They look as lame as they sound here. 1.5/5

As much as I think the later Beatles albums are some of the best of humanity's creations, that will still be some of the best potentially in a millennia, I also think their earlier albums are too simple (stylistically speaking) and contain too much fluff amongst the truly good songs.

Ehhhh. Not my favorite of theirs by a long shot, but it’s still stupid that this is even on here. Prefer the original, but that cover of “You Really Got a Hold on Me” is something I could listen to on repeat.

This was the first Beatles selected for me on this site (in a row of almost 120 albums now) and I'm glad that this was selected because I like too much of this band (not surprisingly), but I didn't listen to the cover versions from their initial years and this album (specially B-side) was a great experience for me. A great band playing the greatest songs and making history. It's not the best Beatles, of course, but worth each song.

Still don't like the Beatles. Don't @ me.

Catchy melodies and tight playing but an overall experience that is square to the core. This sure isn’t “Tonight’s the Night,” or the bad-boy Stones. If this band has a future, it’s in “Money,” the only song here with an edge.

Lots of versatility on this record, from sweet, intimate tracks like Till There Was You to big upbeat rockabilly tunes like Roll Over Beethoven FAV TRACKS: All My Loving, Till There Was You, Please Mr. Postman, Roll Over Beethoven, You Really Got A Hold On Me LEAST FAV TRACKS: Little Child, Money (That’s What I Want)

you can see a lot of the later Beatles here but nothing like their later stuff in quality obviously the covers are much better roll over Beethoven is just funny looking back at it liverpool lads singing chuck berry and a relatively rare Harrison lead I wanna be your man is good of the original tracks solid 3

It won’t be long - E to C/G chord change is so great. Favourite song on record. All I’ve Got to Do another favourite. Enjoyed the Motown covers, mainly Please Mr Postman. Some strange production with panning but vocal harmonies throughout are amazing. 4/5 - good easy Sunday afternoon album

Beatles before their experimental phase. Just poppy hits.

Growing up, I almost exclusively listened to compilation's of the Beatles' greatest hits. Rarely ever, I took the opportunity to listen to a full album by them. Browsing through their discography, I feel like a complete outcast for saying that With the Beatles is my favorite, by a considerable margin. I will admit that the songs that made the biggest impression on me by the Beatles, are mostly scattered throughout Abbey Road, Revolver, Rubber Soul and A Hard Day's Night, but With the Beatles does not contain a single unenjoyable or average track at all. With the slight exception of Little Child, I find that every other song on With the Beatles is exceptionally touching, raw, authentic and sung beautifully. A 5/5 is absolutely deserved.

A lot of familiar songs but they aren't really that great of songs.

While I think The Beatles are the most overrated band of all time, their influence on music is undeniable. And for what it is, their music isn't bad. It's fine. I won't go out of my way to listen to this album or most of their other stuff, but I won't turn it off as I mow my lawn to it.

Album is full with early Beatles pop songs, which, to be honest all sound quite short and similiar. This feels like a compilation of early 60s pop songs, rather than a coherent album. Of course some of the songs are great, for example \"Please, Mr. Postman\"

I love the Beatles, but I'm really glad they grew artistically from their early efforts.

This album is very much a 7 to me. Most songs are fairly good with some standout songs. A lot of the songs seem pretty normal and kind of boring in comparison to what the Beatles would go on to create. A lot of doo-wop changes make the songs sound a bit similar to each other. It’s definitely not anywhere near the best Beatles album but there are enough good songs to make it an enjoyable enough listen nevertheless. Favorite songs: All My Loving, Roll Over Beethoven, Money (That’s What I Want) Light 7/10

Pretty forgettable pop from the era. I'm also not a big cover-song kinda guy, and I really had to resist the urge to skip those tracks. Regardless of the musical shifts they made over time, I've never been a huge fan of the Beatles. This didn't change anything for me.

Ah, die Teeniebeatles. Jung und alles andere als unschuldig, und natürlich muss man jetzt artsy fotografiert werden. Was den Sound angeht: krass, wie die sich in nur 6 Jahren ab da entwickelt haben werden, aber auch hier schon hör ich sie einfach gern.

Solid/classic

Solid pace, enjoyable but not their best. Will definitely be listening to it again soon.

This may have been truly transformative for the time, but to my ear listening this for the first time it sounds like generic bubble gum pop-y music. Very much not a fan. Each song sounds exactly like the others. Melodies and lyrics are uninteresting and empty. I feel like I'm watching a commercial. Maybe Pepsi? "Money that's what I want" could be the commercial music for some new stock brokerage. Just cutesy background filler noise.

Early Beatles aren't super complicated and don't hold up by today's standards. I generally don't spend much time on their first three albums as it's too much "I love her and she loves me", but as albums of the era go, this was still one of the best.

This album was an interesting mix of originals and covers. The covers were more enjoyable than many of the original tracks. It was a nice representation of their early style.

If I ever make such a list, I'd skip the early stuff and only include the later stuff, which seems more revolutionary... Fave track - "Money (That's What I Want)", I guess, though picking a cover feels slightly weird?

I already knew I liked the Beatles, so it’s no surprise to me that I enjoyed this album. I like their earlier stuff more than later stuff, and I hadn’t heard a lot of these covers before. It was nice to hear some stuff I hadn’t heard before.

When I was like 15 and going through my first big Beatles phase I decided to abstain from some of their albums so I’d have something to come back to. Although I’d heard a lot of the tracks already I did enjoy it as an album. Yes, there are a few scrappers on it there are a few gems that attempt to make up for it. Overall, I don’t think it’s bad but it’s definitely not on par with some of the other albums by the Beatles on this list.

All I’ve got to do is so fucking SICK. You can hear them coming into themselves here, great vocals and our Ringo’s on the money and all. Some major stinkies though. Little Child? Bit dodge lads, if I wanted that craic I’d bop to PYT. Also did you hear what they said about dogs locked in cars on hot days?

Not a great Beatles album

I don't know, I've got the same issue with this as I have generally with the early catalog. Nothing stands out all that much. Very good but not yet quite exceptional (except as a pop phenomena) The originals are very much standard pop love songs of the love you so much/why you do me so wrong variety, while the covers lack the rock power of the originals (with the notable exception of Money).

I've never really loved the Beatles, especially their earlier work, and unfortunately this album reflects that. I can appreciate what the Beatles did for rock and the impact they had on society, but this album didn't push the needle that much for me.

Day 31 of Albums You Must Hear Before You Die, and I’ve hit a major milestone! I cannot tell you how excited I was to get my first Beatles record! I didn’t grow up with The Beatles, the iconic Fab Four had been broken up for over a decade before I was even born. Sure, as a kid, I heard The Beatles on TV, radio, movies and even some commercials, they were just never my cup of tea. That remained the case until I got into my twenties... I can’t really explain how, I just suddenly started listening to their music on my own one day, and fell in love. The things about these guys that I had always thought was strange and off-putting when I was a kid quickly became the same things that I admired and enjoyed the most. With The Beatles, today’s album, is the second release from The Beatles, released in 1963, and the first to be released in North America. With The Beatles has the guys playing it safe, smartly, with Motown covers and simple, upbeat love diddly’s. The first unwritten rule in music is to get the girls to like it first, the guys will follow. Even though super innovative and experimental albums like Sgt. Pepper’s and Yellow Submarine seemed light years away musically, those would come only a couple of short years later. Even when The Beatles music would become more complex and psychedelic, their roots always remained closely tied to R&B and Rock n Roll. You would have to press really hard to find a songwriting duo that even comes close to being as prolific as Lennon & McCartney. The lyrics are simple, yet very effective. The singing is crystal clear, and dares you not to sing along. These guys made masterful music making seem so simple, and still, nearly 60 years later, there’s no other act that can touch them. I also really enjoy watching old interviews, these guys were really fucking witty and funny. Now on to the songs.. Nearly half of the track listing for With The Beatles is cover songs. If the entire album was all covers it would still be a smash. The kids from Liverpool take songs like Please Mr. Postman, You Really Got a Hold on Me, Money and Roll Over Beethoven to new heights. If you don’t like these songs, you won’t appreciate The Beatles, these are artists that inspired Beatlemania! This isn’t an album that uses tried and true classics as a crutch, though. The best songs on With The Beatles are originals. Til There Was You is one of my favorite all time Beatles songs. It’s very sweet, melodic and sentimental. All My Loving is nearly the perfect song, period. Hold Me Tight, I Wanna Be Your Man, All I’ve Got To Do, Don’t Bother Me, all really good and iconic songs. This is only one album, It’s amazing that The Beatles only lasted ten years when you look at their monstrous catalogue. There will never be another group that will impact the worlds musical culture as much as The Beatles. The coolest part about it all is that they always paid respect and honored those that paved the way for them. I absolutely cannot wait for more albums from The Fab Four! It's the Beatles, but this is the EARLY years. Listening to this, it's apparent why they took the world by storm. They've not hit their full potential yet.

It's The Beatles doing their best Chuck Berry impression. Interesting to see the origins of their incomparable pop songwriting, but otherwise, it's pretty uninteresting.

Follow up to first Beatles album, still a few covers, but they start to hone it in and you can see how Hard Days Night is next

I know it's a bit sacrilegious, but I've never been much of a Beatles fan. I don't hate them, and I recognize their contribution to everything we currently enjoy in mainstream music, but they've never really done it for me. This album is pretty typical of my enjoyment of them at 2 stars.
