Reviews (page 13 of 14)
Not sure that I like early Beatles.
ранние, наивные битлы. неплохой альбом, но слушать его за один присест тяжеловато - все превращается в кашу. запомнились треки: till there was you (думала, что ее написал Маккартни, очень в его стиле), money (that's what i want) - забавный инструментал, вокал леннона, all i've got to do - очень приятная, конечно all my loving, знала и любила ее даже до полноценного прослушивания альбома, you really got a hold on me - не уверена, чем зацепила, но мне нравится партия фортепиано в начале песни. послушать и ознакомиться определенно стоило, но особенно зная, что есть еще в дискографии битлов, оценить высоко сложно, хоть альбом и приятный. обложка странная. 2/5
I like the Beatles, but this is probably their worst album. Very generic 60s boy-band pop. Almost no change in style. Plus every song is barely 2 minutes, makes every song pass by before you can blink
undoubtedly the beatles. um sorry
Of all the stinkers the Beatles had, their covers were the absolute worst.
Not everything The Beatles did needs to be treated with reverence.
I want to write more but cant describe it in any other way than boring
Why o why is only the last song on this record mixed properly. I REALLY dislike only hearing the vocals in my right ear. Other than that this record is fine. The beatles sound like they actually enjoy making these songs, something which can't be said on later records.
It's pop, its inoffensive and its probably Beatles fans least favourite album, so it gets an extra point for that alone
I don't like the Beatles.
I'm not a Beatles fan as-is, adding in the hard left/right panning for instrument/vocal tracks made this one a pain to get through. I know there's a mono version floating around out there and maybe would have bumped this to a 3 but I can't be bothered.
Sophomore slump? I love the Beatles but this has to be the weakest of their albums. Too may mediocre covers, too may mediocre and forgettable originals. A couple of really good bops.
Inclusion of albums like this is why people don't respect Beatles fanatics.
The Beatles before they were good, let's be honest
There’s a couple of good songs here that make a good case for why the Beatles were so popular, but half of the album is just absolutely terrible covers.
Again, like Ray Charles and Prince just not overwhelmed by this Beatles release from 1963. Songs are all nice little ditties, pretty basic structure and nothing profound lyrically. Mr. Postman is probably the highlight. Never really cared for Roll Over Beethoven. Pretty tame and lame really.
Not my favorite album of theirs and not a hige fan of the imaging of vocals on right, guitar on left. 2.5
The least annoying Beatles album I’ve heard.
Feels dated and has lesser versions of songs
This is not the worst Beatles, but this band has never been my thing.
was wel ok
Beatles- the boring years
A bit sad at the number of covers, but that is more a reflection on the times I suspect. The album was fine, but I think it would be far from my favourite even not having listened to much of the Beatles before.
This was fine, not unpleasant listening. A little icky to hear the Beatles cover motown hits less well than the original, especially given the "borrowing" of work by Black artists of the time.
A few classes on there, wouldn’t listen again.
Audio mixing was awful with very boring instrumentality
Not their best work, but I'm assuming their whole discography is in here somewhere
Not a huge fan of the Beatles except the odd song. This collection is a bit slower than my usual tastes and doesn’t inspire much.
As a person not familiar with old school rock and roll, but heavily inclined by modern and 2000s rock, the album was a new endeavor. Though it couldn’t grasp my taste, it was still a great casual listen.
Bland in the context of the rest of the Beatles discography. Maybe was innovative of its time. I dunno, I wasn't alive.
Rating: 5/10 Putting this album on 1001 You must listen to before being deceased is silly, it’s not like the ENTIRE Beatles catalogue needs to be present. This one is less essential, it is much more forgettable to me, maybe if you’re a fan of the early Beatles era which I am not really. I’m sure it was some really cool stuff in 1963. What they built on from this and the evolution they would have in just a couple short years though is simply insane
Uma bosta escutavel
So it was okk they seemed a bit like empty love songs to me. idk maybe im not a beetles girly but it didn’t speak to me or stand out and all the songs were quite similar. In a way yes they all blended together as an album which is a good positive but i struggled to distinguish them occasionally. I listened to the album a few times but yeah not my cup of tea. Also they say ‘yeah’ way too much what 😭the songs were very monotonous and there was no climax the entire song was a chorus. Worst song: Little child Best song: Hold me tight, I wanna be your man
Not really my thing. I know they are iconic. Just not into it
I was never really a fan of the Beatles but there were songs here and there that I did like a lot (across the universe/nowhere man/baby you're a rich man) but im even less of a fan of their very early work which was stiflingly mainstream and even disingenuous to their actual creative talent and genius. I'm not going to give this a 1 star out of respect, but I will never listen to this album of my own accord.
It’s fine. I don’t hate it but I’m a lil bored. I like the Please Mister Postman the best probably.
15. mid
Interesting that the singing for the first two songs only comes out of my right earbud. The mixing is very nice, even though it feels very similar for multiple songs. But that makes it cohesive too. All my loving is a very nice song. Gets a bit boring on song six because it all sounds so similar. Please Mister Postman ist kind of fun.
I’m sure this is above average for what it is, I just have no interest in hearing it again. The covers are probably the best songs.
Just a BORING album. Feels like, what are we doing here. And what I really don’t get is, you just had 2 fantastic singles, better than anything on this album… why weren’t they there??????
Yeeesh.. So generic sounding, they clearly are finding their footing stil. Songs are clones of one another with the soaring harmonies, similar melodies, and themes surrounding love... cant you think of anything else to sing about guys? The album cover makes them look way too edgy and professional, compared to the actual sound of the album. False advertising if you ask me. Its fine, its easy listening, but honestly I'm getting kind of sick of this type of sound that keeps popping up on this list. The later beatles music is just so much better, no contest. This probably deserves a 3, but Im giving it a 2 just to humble them a bit. 5/10
ja da zijn de beatles he
I understand the love for the Beatles stuff that comes after this... But not for this. Just haven't found their footing yet.
I think I prefer this sound to the 'took too much' vibe of some of the other Beatles albums we've had - plus its very short which helps. The Beatles are not really my thing, and I've never got the hype, but I appreciate their contributions to music - there's just way too many Beatles (and offshoot projects) on this list. Minus one star for the harmonica solo in Little Child AND that its fucking creepy to sing lyrics which say: 'Little child, won't you dance with me? I'm so sad and lonely. If you want someone to make you feel so fine, Then we'll have some fun when you're mine.' What is wrong with men? Why is there so much infantilising women, and/or singing about literal children/under age girls? Fuckin gross dude, groom much?
ok to have it plays in the background while i apply for benefit
Really not sure why this Beatles album is on here. I was never a Beatles fan, but listening to all their albums helped me appreciate them. This is not one of those albums that is really notable in any way Favorite Songs: Till There Was You
Don’t get Beatle Mania!
Går ju inte att överskatta deras påverkan på modern musik men för mig är denna musik inte särskild intressant o ibland känns den nästan barnslig. Just denna platta har inget som sticker ut, och jag ogillar att det är så många covers.
Continuing the trend of me not really liking early Beatles, their 2nd album just isn't it for me. "Don't Bother Me" is really the only song on here I kinda like.
Old Beatles 🙅♂️ New Beatles 🙆♂️ Aka, this was not great. And maybe my 2 star rating is related to some Beatle fatigue, but this was just a boring record.
Gotta start somewhere
today is the day that i share i've never sat down and listened to a four fat sluts album ever before in my life. like, why would i need to? wouldn't it stand to reason i could get by listening to them by osmosis since they're so pervasive and culturally significant? and, if i happened to miss a song or two (or seven dozen) through this process, wouldn't it mean the song(s) suck anyhow and weren't worth listening to? but i suppose this was a flawed assumption since i can't trust anyone or their taste in music anymore. i must investigate these four fat sluts to understand, for myself, what about them compels people to lie and say that they're good. it's fortuitous, then, that 1001 has deemed to give me the four fat sluts "when they sucked" as my introduction to them. a tangential story: when i was younger i went to some get-together with my dad. i don't remember what this get-together was about - a family friend? an all-ages social gathering? could've been a cult info session for all i knew, but we didn't stay too long. of the precious few minutes that we spent at this strangers house, i was engaged in a conversation with someone's british grandpa. my dad, always the jokester, decided to reveal to this british grandpa that i didn't like the beatles (since renamed to the four fat sluts) - he said this against my heartfelt desire to avoid needlessly antagonizing the geriatric. after my dad said this the gentleman's demeanor shifted and, all of the sudden, he looked very pensive. grandpa could feel a socratic moment coming on. he asked me: "who is your favorite band?" i told him: "the knife" he replied: "do you think, in one hundred years, your band - these 'knives' fellas - do you think they'll still be an important part of people's lives? do you think they will transcend cultures and touch millions of people all over the world?" being of obstinate tweenager age, i replied with something along the lines of "i don't know, who's to say they couldn't?" but the grandpa shook his head and smiled a bit as though my answer proved his point: your favorite band will never be the four fat sluts, your criticisms are invalid, and if you had said this within the realm of great britannia we would have you shot, yank. so this one goes out to you british grandpa: you're right, it's undeniable the four fat sluts have done numbers and we're still talking about them 100 years after they released this album (1925 - wow!!). the album itself is fine - worse than i expected, given the four fat slut's lofty acclaim, but it still meets my arbitrary measure of acceptance (hell, it goes past that!) so i will not deny what they've accomplished here: a decent, passable, fine-enough album. can't wait to listen to the rest of the four fat slut's discography and find out, once and for all, if british grandpa had any right to be defending them like he did. highlights - don't bother me, roll over beethoven, hold me tight
There are some fine pop tracks on this album, though there are just as many flat covers of black american artists. Does this really deserve to be on this list? Just because it's by the Beatles does not mean it's essential. I'm sure there are hundreds of more interesting, influential, and deserving albums out there.
I mean, its early Beatles, so little to none experimentation that they would be recognized later for. It's good, but not so much that I would say its essential. 2/5
why is everything in my left ear? why is the music so boring? why does every song sound like it's just Jimmy Fallon impersonating the Beatles?
The weird stereo mix was actually a bonus in some ways, as it made these rather tired songs sound a little bit more interesting than they really were. Two stars for being short.
Pleasant enough but background music. Meh 2/5.
Was fine but I reckon they can do better
Really should have been a Chuck Berry album in here instead of this. About half of it is covers, most from black artists. It's got a few original tracks, which do stand out, and is of passing interest in understanding the (rather cringey) beginnings of the band but this isn't 1001 things you need to know about the Beatles before you die. Gonna put on the Great twenty eight immediately
Important album in context of seeing their evolution, but damn what a boring album. Has some fun bangers for sure but overall its one of their worst albums
OK, but not my thing. Classic early Beatles with a very tinny sound, even when re-mastered. Couple of the songs are familiar classics. 2/5
I like the Beatles but this kinda honks. The first Beatles album (Please Please Me) is great and I really love the White Album... but this feels like a collection of songs they just shit out less than a year later to fill label obligations, probably because it literally was.
If this isn't The Beatles' worst album, it's at least their most inessential. The original songs aren't much of a step forward from their debut or early singles. The best of them, "All My Loving," doesn't do much that "She Loves You" didn't already do. There are also quite a few covers, which don't do much to transform the source material. Despite all that, the album is well produced, and the first few tracks are catchy and punch. As the album goes on though it gets more and more tiring as you long for something new to happen. It's never bad, but it gets at least a little annoying. It's hard to fault the band given they were probably being asked to make more hits, but this is proof that even the most celebrated discographies aren't always free from duds. And if this is your dud, you're doing something right.
Ugh two Beatles albums in a week.... It's a bunch of covers and a few pop hits. This is supposed to be influential and I should listen to this drivel? Get the fuck out of here. The Beatles were so overrated and this is a prime example of everyone fawning over something that isn't that deep. Boo this album. The Beatles only got mildly interesting when they started doing drugs and hating each other.
1963 A smattering if ubiquitous songs heard many times before, along with a few covers. I would never deny The Beatles' influence over the music that we hear today, but I dont really need this album in my life. Heard before ❌️ in part, but not as a whole Listened this time ✅️ Revisit ❌️ Historical importance ★★☆☆☆ (4/10)
I'm tired of listening to this album. 2.5/5
Okay. I realize I have an anti-Beatles bias and a chip on my shoulder about it - trying to preemptively defend myself against the masses who adore them. I made an effort here to get past my biases. This album is full of squeaky clean, inoffensive sixties pop. I can definitely hear the foundation for a lot of future music I enjoy being laid down - influential for sure. I also completely failed to enjoy the listening experience. I turned down the volume twice before I started petting a cat so my hands would be too busy to do that again, and then I got very involved in petting the cat. At least she's happy! My rating: two stars My eternally needy little tortie who got an extra half hour of dedicated attention out of this: five slow blinks out of five
Love songs aren't really my thing. And neither are generic "I love yous" and "I love hers". I prefer a song with intrigue and poetry. These Beatles songs sounded like Bo Burnham, " I love your greenish/bluish/brownish eyes." I know what songs I like from The Beatles and this album did not have them.
It's fun to hear the basis of their later sound! I've never listened to this album, and it's just hard to not compare it to their others (that I like much more). Wouldn't listen to again, but it's still the Beatles...
Meh
I remember this album sitting in the special LP box that my family had, memorable because it is in black and white. I was born in 1960, so this would have been one of my early memories. At that age I would have been more into the Chipmunks. This evokes childhood memories for me, so how can I not be emotionally affected. Older siblings and parents would play the radio and record player, I would have no say and would naturally absorb the feelings the tracks evoked in others. Listening to this now, 60 years later, the hold has loosened somewhat. Some of the tracks are ok, the others are spared by the norms at the time of being under 3 minutes. I wonder if the size of each Beatles head on the cover meant anything to the photographer, in terms of who they thought was more important.
With The Beatles is certainly one of the first Beatles albums i'll give it that. This album easily does deserve it's place on this list because it was definitely one of the first albums of it's kind and influenced loads of other bands. I still don't think this album is all that great. Most of the songs are far too samey and this album just doesn't really have any standout tracks (outside of Please Mister Postman, that track was pretty solid). I also feel like the songs go by too quickly, not giving them enough time to sink in and just makes them all get lost in the shuffle. I don't think its a bad album, the musicianship is good and it deserves it's place here, It just isn't great and a bit disappointing considering this is the album that was generated for me on my 21st birthday. Best Song: Please Mister Postman Worst Song: Little Child
Bad and boring for the beatles
It's hard to believe this was one of the first albums from one of the most influential and long-lasting bands of all time. Judging a 60 year old album with modern sensibilities and tastes seems unfair, but this is definitely not an album I'd listen to again.
My Beatles knowledge is patchy at best - I believe I've only ever listened to the "1" compilation album, so I know of their obvious hits via that. This one didn't blow me away. It's a reasonable enough listen, but it offers little explanation towards the revered, global mega-entity that they would go on to become, and I would suggest that it is by no means essential. It's one that you'd put on to gain a greater understanding of the band's early trajectory, but there's little in the way of replay value for me here as it just felt a bit too simplistic.
Not my speed.
There is no way that 7 of 13 beatles lps are essential before you die. Especially this one thats more simplistic than Chuck Berry. I'm rating this low not because I hate the fab 4 but because this woo! Yeah yeah yeah era is so not essential even if they did eventually make Sgt peppers.
This album is nice, it has good lyrics but it’s not my cup of tea. Being a person whose first language isn’t English, and also being 2000born kid, i wouldn’t prefer to listen to this music.
Meh. Much like the early Rolling Stones albums, the second Beatles album is packed with unnecessary cover songs. The originals are good, but most have been overplayed through the years. The six(!) cover songs are nothing special. Maybe they should have released an EP instead.
Although I think I recognize a few of the tunes on this album (mainly the opening track "It won't be long" and "All my loving", maybe?), I haven't heard most of the tracks before on this early Beatles album, so that's kind of nice, I suppose. I like it how short and sweet both the songs and the overall album are, but I'll admit that most of the songs are pretty forgettable and rarely show any evidence of their later musical talent and exploration, not to mention that nearly half the songs are covers (and not all that great at that). A few were kind of distinctive, like "Till there was you", and some tracks were fairly painful (like "All I've got to do"). I'm sure this album is a must-have in a Beatles heritage tour collection, and perhaps distinctive in that it had no Beatles singles, but I'm not sure I really needed to hear this before I die.
2 because it’s below average. The Beatles are influential, but it doesn’t means I particularly enjoy listening to them. Like it’s such an important part of musical history and that’s really my only enjoyment of this album.
In a nutshell: the beginning of the invasion. The Beatles, love them or loathe them, are part of popular music cannon. These four charming lads took the world by storm mere weeks after this album was released. Their influences/inspirations are on show here- The Everly Brothers, Buddy Holly, blues standards, Motown... But it's not great. Some of the covers are weak, despite the energetic input. The OG songs are lyrically clumsy in parts. We know John and Paul get better. I think you can skip this and go straight to A Hard Day's Night. Overall: 4/10
Think I knew one song previously. I don’t really listen to them, but this still wouldn’t be my go to album of theirs if I decided to put them on
Oh piss off. I've just written a review for Amnesiac where I said that there were too many truly excellent Radiohead albums on this list for me to want to listen to a merely good one. Having every Beatles album on this list is a real waste of a limited space. Only Revolver and Sgt Pepper's are truly great albums, the rest of the Beatles works are occasional great songs, a lot of filler and some real shite. This album has the extra annoyance of being nearly 50% cover songs. On the one hand, the cover songs mean there's nothing truly crap like Maxwell's Silver Hammer or Wild Honey Pie on this album. On the other hand, they're still just pub band covers. Ultimately, despite this album barely being more than half an hour long, I was mostly just waiting for it to be over.
Yes, they wrote catchy tunes, but it all seems to trite and cliched now. They’re later stuff is just so much better and this is the musical equivalent of looking at a toddlers preschool scribblings stuck to the fridge door
Can immediately hear that 50s rock and roll/doo-wop influence. But why such aggressive panning on track 1? Very distracting Otherwise not very groundbreaking Some covers as well Nothing special at all Best track - Money (That's What I Want) but is it a cover? I Wanna Be Your Man 2 stars
Not for me
Half the record was cover songs.
Like seltzer water
not a really interesting album to me, but not terrible. I Want to Hold Your Hand was released as a loosie in this same time period and stands above all the songs here IMO
Not super exciting - some hints of the songwriting strength that would mature in a couple of years, but out of that context not an altogether earthshaking experience.
All righty, well, not one of their best albums.
The Beatles were pretty bland back in the early days weren't they? Not being a mega fan, I can only imagine that this was just how the record label wanted to package and present them. But this is the band that made girls go absolutely crazy? It's fairly standard, generic sounding late 50's/early 60's rock and roll/pop/merseybeat. Having said that though, you can definitely hear what they will be capable of in the future and the seeds are definitely there ready and waiting to grow. As always with The Beatles, the harmonies are great and some of the tracks are ridiculously catchy. That Lennon - McCartney songwriting duo never disappoints. My favourite from this is probably 'All I've Got To Do'. It's just classic early Beatles, everything I mentioned before in a track. A bit hit and miss, and probably still finding their feet, but still a decent enough outing from the Fab Four. My least favourite album of theirs though (so far).
I am not a fan of early Beatles. I could see myself giving it a second listen, but there would more likely be something else i would go with.
Classic sound from that time. Good album for a one time listen or background at a senior's complex. Not one I'd have in my rotation but die hard Beatles fan will be all over it. I'd give it 2.5 stars if I could not quite a 3 for me.
I’ve never been a big fan of the Beatles’ early albums, and 𝘞𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘉𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘭𝘦𝘴 didn’t do much to change that. While it’s full of youthful energy and tight performances, most of the songs feel locked into a narrow formula — basic love lyrics, simple structures, little ambition. Worse, the mix is hard to enjoy today. The artificial stereo separation — what some call “ping-pong stereo” — can be downright distracting. Vocals in one ear, instruments in the other, with a strange hollowness in between. It’s a historical artifact, sure, but it doesn’t make for pleasant listening. That said, 𝘈𝘭𝘭 𝘔𝘺 𝘓𝘰𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 is a genuine standout, and some of the cover versions work surprisingly well. 𝘔𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘺 (𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵’𝘴 𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘐 𝘞𝘢𝘯𝘵) in particular benefits from George Martin’s careful overdub work — it sounds tighter and more powerful than most of the album. But overall, this isn’t a phase of the Beatles I care to revisit. The real magic was still to come.
I'm pretty sure they have the entire Beatles discography on this considering this is the 3rd album I get from them on day 224, and no matter how many times they get shoved on me and hear all about how important they were for music, I still think they're boring as fuck, please stop trying to convince me otherwise, I'm not falling for the psyop
Tight and bouncy, this is a collection of great little pop songs but little else. Although there are hints of the interesting chords and turnarounds which would pepper (heh) their most accomplished work, this is a naively straightforward album where one song blends into another. I'm glad they grew beyond this sound! Favourite tracks: All My Loving, Don't Bother Me, Money
I understand this was groundbreaking at the time, but it never really aged well. I’ve never really been a fan of the early Beatles, anything pre rubber soul
Wake me up when they release Help! Putting aside academic interests (historical significance, etc.) and focusing on it as a collection of recordings, it’s pretty forgettable; All My Loving excepted.
This is #day271 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and... well, it had to happen eventually: my first Beatles album. Ironically, I haven't hit a single Stones record yet, and I've always been more of a Stones guy. As for The Beatles, I like the Revolver kind of Beatles, aka experimental, and some of the later-in-their-career kind of Beatles. Not a fan of early pop/rock standard cover Beatles, really. That said, "It Won't Be Long" and "All My Loving" are sweet. The rest sounds pretty corny. This is a 2 out of 5. Looking forward to #day272.
Not incredible, somewhat boring
meh but i guess i haven't listened to enough old stuff to have perspective. could be 3, but 2 ig since i hope most other stuff here will be better
I know it is blasphemous to refer to a Beatles album as Meh but while I enjoy some of the covers this is just a poor or at best OK album. Not horrible but I can't see giving it more than a couple stars.
Boy band era Beatles, the music is boring. All respect to how important it was historically etc, it is boring.
2,5
Despite being a Beatles record, this has not much to offer even in terms of the era. Pretty average 60ies. A few mémorables, a few awful trucks. If it weren't the Beatles, I predict this would have gone fairly unnoticed.
60s' pop rock being 60s' pop rock with the added benefit of horrible use of stereo. Not terrible but outdated and quite boring.
Good for beachy vibes, bit slow for my taste. Also I can only listen to old Beatles song for so long before it all kind of sounds the same.
It was alright
Dont know if it is their first or one of the firsts, but it is pretty bad compared to all of their other songs Songs with repetitive lyrics, their symphony doesnt glue with you and their lyrics are almost identical and simple, just talking abiut love in the simplest of ways
no surprises with the beatles
Too many 'Babys', 'Pleases'.and 'Loves' for me. Later Beatles much more interesting
ich werde real sein: mid af
Please Mister Postman neuron activation Sonst sleeper😴
Didn't like it
Dette er kjedelige vanilla-epoken til Beatles før de lagde sicke bangers
De beste Beatles albumene har en del killers og en del fillers. Her det dog bare fillers.
1. Don't bother me 2. All my loving 3. Money (that's what I want) Tidlig beatles er ikke helt min greie, men noen få kule låter underveis.
Not their best
Six out of fourteen tracks are (not great) covers. And, does a book/list like 1001 AYMHBYD need seven Beatles albums? I love the Beatles, but really?
Bland and boring.
1st song: so far pretty boring. i fw the bass heavy but the song itself isnt really that good lol. vocals are kinda annoying? chorus especially with the it wont be long yea YEA yea YEA yea... 2nd song: Equally boring. singular chord at the start gave me hope cause oh darling starts the same way but the rest... disappointed greatly 3: i like the strumming pattern? bass is bouncy and fun. thats really all so far its kinda boring as shit i cant lie 4: okayyy wait i enjoy this beat a little. bass is really funky and the drum pattern is nice. vocals dont really deliver but they never really do w the beatles so nothing surprising there. i feel like it had a lot more potential and that actually bothers me. makes it a bigger disappointment quite frankly cause the instrumental is pretty neat 5: i cant even say anything about that one it was so unremarkable 6: just a ballad. i guess its nice but theres nothign special about it. the guitar is nice? annoying that the bass isnt that audible but the guitar is real nice fr 7: OH YM FUCKING GOD FINALLY SOMETHING DECENT THANK YOU GOD... this is nice. i like this. didnt know this song was theirs i cant even lie and idk why i didnt cause its classic beatles but i didnt lmfao 8: okayyyy wait interesting bass is really fun. i liked it. 9-10: completely unremarkable im so sorry 11: yeah no 12: pretty nice actually 13: boring as fuck again 14: ummm... i dont like it. its not super bad but i dont like it. its kinda annoying sounding to me LMFAO overall: raw vocals arent that good. i feel like only certain artists can do this and sound good honestly (tim maia for example). these songs are all painfully average and boring. probably the beatles at their worst. nothing really sticks out so far at all. the best part about the beatles is that their bass is audible and always has interesting parts. paul mccartney is a pretty good bassist. nothing extraordinary but definitely gets the job done, his playing frankly makes the songs less boring to listen to for me. some songs were nice, nothing spectacular. since i only liked 3 songs out of the whopping 14 i listened to i think this is a solid 2 stars for me...
Typical early Beatles
Not to be that friend that's too woke, but I've generated 37 albums so far and the count is: - 3 Beatles albums - 1 album by a female artist or female fronted band I find this a little concerning. Anyway this is a cute collection of songs/covers, but it doesn't feel very essential at all especially compared to the rest of their discography.
Really didn't enjoy it on the first listen. Hearing using better speakers made it sound much better, but beyond it's role in their rise, I don't think it is a highlight in their discography.
Here we have a very good Bar Mitzvah band in 1963. They play songs that are tight and arranged in the style of the day. But, if you strip away all that the Beatles do after this album, there’s nothing exceptional or highly creative here. It’s fine — there’s nothing wrong with it. But, aside from a few really fun tracks, there’s little about this album that I had to hear before I died. It’s a 2.
The Beatles - With The Beatles Although this is not bad of an album in of itself, compared to the massive and glorious discography that The Beatles have left in their legacy, this is easily their worst. But usually like every great thing that comes in existence, there's always a place to start, so for this to be their first album is not bad, especially to what they would eventually make years later on, making their change really impactful. This album offers nice tunes here and there, reminiscing that of Elvis Presley's style, and also having that 60's style over it, some songs had aged really badly though, like Little Child for instance. Overall, this is decent. 1.- It Won't Be Long = 7/10 2.- All I've Got To Do = 8/10 3.- All My Loving = 8/10 4.- Don't Bother Me = 6/10 5.- Little Child = 3/10 6.- Till There Was You = 5/10 7.- Please Mister Postman = 7/10 8.- Roll Over Beethoven = 6/10 9.- Hold Me Tight = 7/10 10.- You Really Got A Hold On Me = 6/10 11.- I Wanna Be Your Man = 5/10 12.- Devil In Her Heart = 5/10 13.- Not A Second Time = 7/10 14.- Money (That's What I Want) =7/10 FINAL SCORE: 6.2/10
The third day of listening to the list I've never listened to The Beatles, and for me they've always been a band that everyone talks about, but that I've never been interested in. As for the album, it's simple, naive or something, it's not impressive. Guess, i'll see what they have in the rest of the albums. Ah yes, of course it have a fucking harmonica
Lite tråkigt alltså
p59. 1963. 2 stars. Just because something is popular doesn't mean its good. Far too much filler and redundant covers. Saved from 1 star by a handful of Lennon-McCartney classics, plus an honourable mention for the cover of "Money".
Not their best work
Not a massive fan of them but maybe need to give it a better listen. Funnily enough this was released on Archie's birthday, go figure. 3 out of 5
Maybe it's because I was raised on early Beatles... but it just feels like music for kids.
Wasn't in the mood. Beatles are beatles
ok. some good songs. But never been a Beatles fan and this has done nothing to change that.
Early Beatles kind of suck... just low stakes 60s pop that all sounds the same.
Sounds like Christmas Music & lyrics to Little Child are super creepy.
I understand the relevance of the album, but even if I think of this in it's own time, I find it not so innovative, and the fact that there are covers in it, makes me think that this is not such a relevant album after all, even though it was popular.
Flashes of the brilliance to come, but a little too twee.
Historically I know this is an important album. That being said, it isn’t anything to write home about. It’s fine, the covers aren’t great, but the originals are fine. So personally I wouldn’t listen to anything on here again. So it’s a two for me.
Gear: Abyss DIANA MR Artwork: 🍲🍲🍲🍲 Production (Remastered 2009): 🔊🥴🔊 Music: 🧑🦯💡🎨❓ Rating: 🪲🐞/5
Amazing, a halfway boring album from the Beatles. Even the hits are uninteresting. I think I had this album in my ear when I developed my youthful dislike of the Beatles. Fortunately, I got to know and appreciate the Beatles better, not least through this project. But this album has very little to do with that. I might listen to one or two songs from it again. I'd rather like ti forget the existence of the rest. 2/5
Not my preferred Beatles era. The best thing about this may be the cover. I do enjoy all my loving but similar to early rolling stones, they were just doing what everyone else was doing which feels like some chuck berry/buddy holly style music.
prefer their later music but can appreciate how this would have blown peoples minds.
Some good covers on here. Otherwise, just like all Beatles for me - a few hit, mostly miss.
Almost clicked off the first song lol Every song is super short? 33 mins total runtime for 14 songs. But they felt long because they all blend together and none of them are for me. 😭 The guitar on TTWY was cool tho The rating is purely personal enjoyment. I was happy when it was over
Too many covers
better beatle albums out there
➕ till there was you ➖ it wont be long, please mister postman kind of feels like a cheap imitation of music that was popular 5-3 years prior. not an impossible album to listen to but hard to find anything i actually enjoyed.
Starts ok, ends weakly. This is my least favorite Beatles era
It opens annoyingly with "Won't Be Long" and doesn't really let off the gas. "All My Loving" showcases some of their impending songwriting brilliance, but nothing takes off or gets into those remarkable McCartney-Lennon segues that define some of their later stuff. Interesting to hear a Broadway tune act as a cooldown track on a Rock and Roll album... I'm really into John's vocal performance on Money, there we go buddy! The rhythm guitar has a neat bubbly energy throughout but this album isn't something I'm going to put on again probably ever again.
The Beatles should not cover Motown hits. If I want to hear Please Me. Postman or You Really Got a Hold on Me or Money, I’ll listen to the Marvelettes, the Miracles, and Barrett Strong, respectively and respectfully. Call me when Abbey Road is up.
Hengettömiä covervetoja, 2.5
Meh. I have to say their cover version of Chuck Berry’s “Roll Over Beethoven” is pretty awful. It lacks energy and spirit. It’s kinda limp quite frankly. I’m shocked it was included on this album. I fully acknowledge that my lack of love for the Beatles puts me in the minority and may indeed be a character flaw. https://www.amazon.com/Football-Buck-Crazy-Crazier-Demise/dp/0544454383
This can’t be the world famous Beatles with this bland ass album??? I’ll save my full judgment until I listen to the more heralded albums but this ain’t it yall.
The covers for ROB and YRGAHOM are decent. Largely forgettable album by The Beatles 1001 album worthy: No - 13/26
Decent--not a great phase of the beatles who i generally love. Some classic covers and some bad imitations. 2.5 but going 2 to be polarizing
Early Beatles doesn't really do it for me, and at this stage their version of the invasion formula is still fairly generic, though I suppose they execute pretty well. That said, there are at least a couple good originals on this album. "It Won't Be Long" and "All My Loving" are standouts for me. Otherwise there are a number of ok to throwaway level songs and a bunch of Motown covers. Feels like a collection of singles more than an album.
Decent, not great.
Maybe controversially I’ve never been one for the Beatles. This is a preppy album, but completely derived of the soul, especially in some of the covers. I’d give this one a miss.
The second Beatles record if I remember right. It sounded the same like the first, but they were praised like hell. Of course, they remain one of, if not the best, band of all time, but their later work was actually interesting
I just never got the Beatles. This is them at their most irritating. I suppose they have nice voices though
Never really got into The Beatles. Appreciate their iconic status and contribution to music, but not really my thing. In this album, they seem to be going for quantity over quality. Just seems like a lot of the same thing, and a lot of the songs are pretty repetitive. Best song: Roll Over Beethoven
Markant mere ligegyldig end de sidste Beatles vi havde (som også var ret ligegyldig) -- god, men mangler godt nok nogen bangere?
I had to stop at the 4th song, there is only so much crywanking and missing someone songs i can listen to in a row YNN
It's fine for early 60's rock, but not my jam. I can't fault them for making music of the time, and obviously they're not bad musicians, so this probably doesn't deserve a 2...but it was hard for me to get through and that's the 2/3 tiebreaker for me on here. 2.4
The more I listen to the Beatles, the more I know this band is not for me.
Possibly the weakest of all the Beatles albums. I'm torn, as I think I'd give this 1-2* if it was anyone else, but perhaps unconscious bias is making me want to rate this higher. It's much better than the other shite being released in 1963, but I feel like there's not really any evolution from their first album, whereas everything that came after was building upon the previous and improving each time. Heart says 3*, head says 2*
Bem ok, agradável pra ouvir de bobeirinha
It's listenable but not for me.
Not a fan of this one. Love their later, more mature albums though.
No I never SAWR them at all!
I just can't bring myself to care about the beatles
The Beatles - not the best beatles, not the worst either.
Had never heard this album before but had heard a couple of the songs. Wow, wasn't prepared for this shockingly mediocre effort. A lot of cover songs, and these versions are better forgotten. Amongst the originals, it's pretty telling when the Ringo Starr song might be the best on the album. Unless the goal is to tarnish the reputation of The Beatles, this album should not be on this list. 2 stars.
Ugh. Almost no redeeming qualities about this album. It doesn't show the genesis or evolution of the band, just that they know what a cover is...
This is a cannonball into the 60's pool. Many of these are covers so I feel like this was more of a Beatles promotional album than the freedom of the band to create their own space, and indeed, they were required to generate 2 LP's a year by the record company. The mixing on this album really bothered me as well: I could hear different ambient background come in and out as different tracks were highlighted, and the gain seemed overbright. This was a bit surprising as the mixing engineer also handled several of Pink Floyd's albums and I haven't had the same experience there. I noted from the Wikipedia page that the upper right is prominently marked "stereo" or "mono", so this is probably the early years of a recording studio technology expansion and experimentation period: the mix that produced good sound from early AM radio and early stereo equipment isn't quite the same on modern sound technology. I'm not a huge Beatles fan (overexposure as a kid?) but there's talent here, although young and rough still, yet to find its true groove.
I understand that this is an early Beatles album but why on the list? We gonna get all their albums? I think their debut deserves the list but this was mediocre and had too many covers. "All My Lovin'" is the only original track that stood out. When people tell me they aren't a Beatles fan it's because of the early albums like this one. Someone from the era tell me why this is a must listen...1.78.
Wins the award for the worst opening for an album ever. Original Beatles is so boring, I'm glad they grew some character but this is shite.
An ok (though understandably simplistic and undercooked) piece of 60s pop. While I understand why it's on here, I think other Beatles albums are better spent on a list like this. 2/5
I feel as though since this is the Beatles I am expected to like this more than I do. The covers are alright and the originals are mostly fine. Just knowing what they do after this makes this less impressive. Favorite songs were All My Loving and Roll Over Beethoven.
I've heard better Beatles records
4ieme album des Beatles généré. Je ne connais aucun des morceaux. Ils sont plutôt court, mais pas vraiment originaux, et aucun ne m'a vraiment marqué. =>2/5
I think the legacy of the Beatles colors people's view of how bad this band used to be. This is 90% pop music garbage with nothing remarkable to say lyrically or musically. If this album was made by a group going by any other name it wouldn't be on this list. I refuse to think this is good just because this band goes on to make Sgt. Peppers.
50% enjoyable. 50% crap
My brain has always refused to latch on to the Beatles. I thought With The Beatles was alright at first, until I realized how much of the parts I liked were just covers and it lost me. Leave Meredith Willson's "Till There Was You" on the Music Man soundtrack where it was meant to be enjoyed, thank you.
just because it's the beatles
Was someone going through a break up when this album was in the making? Cause the first song sounds like someone was a bad boyfriend and was trying to get their partner back, while the second song sounds like someone is begging for their partner's touch.
Ehhhhh... Looking forward to listening to their later work, to understand how they went from being a cheesy cover band of American rock 'n' roll hits (they do have original stuff here too but strinkingly unoriginal) to THE BEATLES. Because listening to their first two albums makes it seem to me that they could easily have vanished after these and lost to time. Nothing special at all. Don't get me wrong, it's pleasant enough music to listen to, especially if you want to be transported to an American road-side diner in the 1950s. But the fact these lads were from Liverpool makes it all the less authentic. I'd listen to the music that these songs cover/mimic, listen to the Beatles later stuff, but I won't be returning to this... ever. Can't see why it's on this list, unless it's just to show how much they developed in such a short time...
I don't really like the Beatles I think. It wasn't bad listening I wasn't bored and even found myself bopping my head a few times. I wouldn't seek them out again. This was an okay album and it's cool to see the inspiration for my one of my favorite albums in Please Mister Postman.
Fav: Till There Was You Least Fav: Little Child It’s nice to see the early Beatles before they became the groundbreaking band later in their career, but this was mainly forgettable with the exception of a couple songs
I'm sorry Beatles. I'm just not a fan. It just sounds old and cliche because it is in fact the OG rock.
Maybe the worst Beatles record?
I know it's the Beatles. But if this was anyone else playing mediocre covers of songs by Black artists, then this album (their worst) would be an afterthought.
This was boring!
Listen, I can see why the author thought \"I need to include this album to show the Beatles rise to popularity\", but, looking backwards we already know the Beatles are popular. What about this album changed music specifically? Not every album by an influential artist needs to be on this list.
Beatles before they hit their stride musically, and it shows.
Looking at The Beatles full catalogue, this might be their worst album. Why is it here? Are we going to have every Beatles album on this list? That's just baloney. Fave Track: I Wanna Be Your Man (#ringo) 2.3/5
De helft is een cover. Stop die albums er dan in.
Iconic album cover , but although it's fun to see were they came from, i’m not a fan of the early Beatles . Too many covers , standard rock n roll. Give it a couple of years boys, you’ll get there .
Yes it's the Beatles, but objectively, this is average 60s pop and most of these songs are just covers.
I'm not a big fan of early Beatles. Nice to hear the blues and Motown influences but it's all a bit too upbeat and neatly packaged for me.
If the Beatles ended after this album they would be a cute curiosity today, known only by a few record collectors. This is quickly produced boy band music with inane lyrics. Pretty catchy but it’s an album that doesn’t grow with further listening. It starts to annoy me third time through.
I don't love the Beatles. This album was not offensive or good. Very mid. 2/5
Kinda Boring through the first 4 tracks, type of music that would be played at a surf shop or beach restaurant. Very vibey but feels a little empty. Definitely makes sense this was one of their earlier projects. 5/10
The Beatles are my favourite band but this hasn't aged well. Half of the album is covers, and not very good covers for the most part, and only one classic song - All My Loving. To put it in comparison, PPM and Beatles for Sale probably have two or three classics on them. I still enjoy this but that's mainly because I grew up with it (and it's short), compared to the Beatles other work this is extremely weak.
This is an okay album. Probably great for its time, but not my cup of tea.
A bit dull for me, but I can see why it's a classic.
Not my favorite Beatles album. They did record this while Beatlemania was happening in the 1960’s and would record between touring not sure if that affected the quality of the product. Typically sophomore albums aren’t as successful
Was going to give a three star because the song You’ve Really Got a Hold On Me is a five star but I just learned that it was a cover (the original is better). I was impressed, thinking “wow they created this from scratch!” Mmm, yeah. Okay. 🤷🏻♂️
The covers that John and George sing are the highlight here. The early Lennon/McCartney songs are pretty laughable. This is the Beatles closer to the cover band they were in Hamburg then what they became.
ground breaking.ground breaking.ground .. maanpintaa rikkoava! little child lyriikat, mielestäni ihan tyypillistä pedofiiliaa mitä tämän ajan musiikki sisälsi aika paljon, ja rokkia jota kuultu tähän mennessä kymmenen vuotta.. jos Beatles bändi olisi suomalainen tämän keskiarvo olisi pauttiarallaa 2.56... mutta brittejä yliarvostetaan kuten aina. en tiedä missä maailmassa... ei... universumissa.. tämä on jotain maailman parasta tuotantoa. i want to kiss you...but i missy you ........... unfatvniombable imaginations.......... potaskaa sanon minä, POTASKAA.... kolme joutuu kestämään ainaki vielä.. all ive got to do
Early-era Beatles records really confuse me. The singles from that time are some of the greatest songs ever written in my opinion — even better than their late-era material — but almost none of those songs are ever on an album proper. And listen, I know enough about music history to know why that is the case, but as a result, I leave every pre-Rubber Soul album just wishing I could listen to The Red Album 1962-1966 compilation, which deserves a spot on this list way more than almost any “official” Beatles album. Certainly over With The Beatles. I just cannot stand behind an album that is mostly comprised of cover songs, all of which are worse than their original counterparts. And like, it’s not like these covers are by obscure artist — listen to Chuck Berry, listen to Smoky Robinson, listen to the Marvelettes even!! Don’t get me wrong, though, the original material that does end up on With the Beatles is pretty good. It’s juvenilia, but it’s pretty strong for 4 boys still learning how to be songwriters. Stronger than Hard Day’s Night in my opinion, although a lot more spotty than the non-album singles. It’s mostly growing pains, but it’s less transitional than it feels on the next couple records. I’d still argue With the Beatles is really only worth it for the opener, “All My Loving,” and “Don’t Bother Me.” After that, the boys are still too teeny bopper to maintain my interest, especially on Side B. It’s not the worst Beatles album, but it’s not painting them in a good light, either, and remains absolutely unessential.
I never cared a whole lot for early Beatles. Sorry fellas, it has not changed. I am not with the Beatles yet. I’ll wait for their souls to turn into rubber.
Not the biggest early Beatles fan, and this album is just simple, straight rock n’ roll, which I love. However, I prefer so many of their other albums in comparison. I know it’s borderline blasphemy to rank this so low given their impact, but judging on a curve compared to their other albums.
It’s not a good thing when the best songs on an album are the covers.
not my favourite
The first Beatles album I'm reviewing is pretty boring as a listener in 2024. Play a song off of this one next to one of the Beach Boys or Monkees tracks I reviewed previously, and I couldn't tell one from another. It's gonna take till projects post-Help pop up for me to really start digging these boys.
I definitely prefer the later Beatles sound. This is ok with a few classic tracks on it. It's a mixture of covers and self penned songs. 'All My Loving' is by far the best offering. The rest vary in quality but they all sound really sharp and undeniably iconic for the era. 2+ stars.
I just never got the allure of the Beatles. This album did nothing for me.
Meh.
Early Beatles is not good.
Vocals in the right speaker ruined it.
Not the most exciting but still enjoyable. fav= roll over beethoven
Of all the Bealtes studio albums, this is easily ranked dead last for me. And that doesn't mean its bad (Love Lennon's cover of Money - and McCartney's All My Lovinge and Harrison's Don't Bother Me). Early Beatles has nothing on creative/psychadelic Beatles. Also, this is the only Beatles album comprised mostly of covers. Of course, 99% of their catalogue is originals, so this album just doesn't do them justice in anyway shape or form.
they were down so bad. I finally understand the ‘boyband marketing’. I already new All My Loving, a new favourite is You Really Got a Hold On Me. all in all the album was ok, but for the beatles, quite simple and rudimentary.
Can’t help but think that if this album were from any other album then it wouldn’t be on this list
Early Beatles is nursery rhyme tier. These guys are down so bad. They’re so thirsty for just a bit of human affection on every song on this album. Beatles pre-drugs are one of the most overrated and cap bands of all time. Beatles post-drugs are genre-defining, game-changing psychedelic pop. Sadly, this album falls in the former category.
Early Beatles. Nope. Get these guys some goddamn drugs. Mr. Postman was a number one hit by The Marvellettes in 1961. Seems weird that they are covering a song that was a hit just 2 years prior but okay. Roll Over Beethoven - Chuck Berry did it better in 1956. Till There Was You is a beautiful song, it's also a cover. Apparently 6 of the songs on this album are covers. Not sure why it's such an influential album when they didn't even write half the songs and this is only their 2nd album.
Not the most interesting Beatles record, compared to their later releases. Musically and lyrically very bland. I guess greatness have to start from somewhere, but this ain't it for me.
Pre-1966 Beatles walked so post-1966 Beatles could run. All of their earlier material is essential to understanding their eventual brilliance, but it’s undoubtedly far less enjoyable. Maybe I’m just not a fan of the LOVE smothering in every song or the Chuck Berry pastiches they initially relied upon to garner their stardom. 🤷🏼♂️
The two songs I liked: All My Loving and Till There Was You. Can't say anything else on here was, like, groundbreaking? I don't dislike The Beatles, but I've never understood their mass, years-long appeal. I'm sure someone will say that of the music stars of the 2010s/2020s in years to come.
lowkey jarring start lmao. just straight into it. first song was pretty short, lacking structure?? second song has kinda harsh harmony in some parts. still its got a nice vibe. rhythm wtv. i liked all my loving. btw all these songs are kinda short i just looked and before i looked it was very clear. so they do feel a little incomplete. don't bother me was boring. also i don't like when songs just end by fading out. little child feels like something i would hear in a country bar or some shit. like the harmonica lol. i like till there was you, but random comment - "i never saur them" didn't know cursive singing existed already lmao. i think hold me tight is an original? it's alright. ok im finally done and mostly what i have to say is that was pretty boring. saw some guy say this isn't their best album and he's definitely right and i haven't even listened to any other album by them. overall 2/5
Felt uninspired, 0 bangers, seemed like a product of the label milking everything they can out of the 4 fellas. This album was everything I dislike about the beatles. Favorite song: Roll Over Beethoven; honorable mention to mister postman.
The pop era of the Beatles isn’t my thing. I love their later work that is less trite and therefore more meaningful. But I gave this a listen anyway. My favorite song is “Money (That’s what I want)” as it showcases Lennon’s stronger, harder voice.
Not a huge Beatles fan. Probably shouldn't have bothered listening.
2.5/5 - few catchy songs but nothing special, really like Roll Over Beethoven
A bunch of covers and a disparate selection of songs does not an album make. Terrible (but sincere!) Chuck Berry cover is a low, All I've Got to Do is a high.
1n 1963 The Beatles were on the cusp but were certainly not world dominant. It would take Ed Sullivvan for that. But is this music 'tipping point' material? Absolutely not? Its tedious, nasal, predictable and quite uttely bland. But the haircuts on the cover were revolutionary. The idea of 'Beatlemania', 'the pop star', the teenager with disposable income were all part of the melting pot thaty indeed did create a tipping point. And the singles were absolutely top notch. 'All My Loving' was, for the time, op perfection. As was the marketing idea of starting to include singles on albums rahter than them being totally stand alone as had happened previously. Rubber Soul (was it 2 years later in 65?) was the first proper album. Up until then - this included - was a single or two padded with filler. Tellingly, the 'Lennon/McCartney' composoitions were also thin on the ground here. Second rate old fashioned rhythm and blues, rock n roll with trensdy haircuts and dapper suits. This was still the music of The Cavern and, remember, The Cavern was a dive.
absolutely as good as the beatles get in my ears
every time i am asked to listen to a standard or cover as part of this project i am filled with rage. i simply do not care what anyone does with roll over beethoven but mr. berry, not even the beatles. 2.5
cant connect to the music
jingly jangly scouse moptop era not the cooler beardy era
was not the best album they did.
Ik snap gewoon niet waarom de beatles zo populair zijn
Meh
This album didn't do much for me. Except maybe 2 or 3 songs.
Early era Beatles with some lovely covers like Till There Was You. Not my favorite of theirs but a taste of what's to come!
Too many covers on here to be on this list. Sounds great but doesn't belong on here.
mid ahhh hell better beatles albums
Wow. This was Not Good. I would rather listen to The Everly Brothers, The Beach Boys, or actual Motown, rather than any of these derivatives. There's a song that my wife said was Paul and not John, and that song is OK I guess.
Quick! someone introduce these guys to Dylan. 1.92
Oh man. After listening for the first time in a VERY long time, I'm beginning to understand why Brian Wilson was perceived as such a genius. Most of these songs are just terrible. And John Lennon really did not like women. I really love their later stuff so I don't really know what to make of this...
Not sure how they changed the music world with this. Roll Over Beethoven as atrocious.
very boring and one-note, this is the exact sound that i expect of the early beatles, and it's not a good one. The band definitely benefited from more drugs.
Shortest album in the world. Listened to the entire thing while driving to dog park
Ugh. More Beatles
Reasonably good, and some obvious classics, but super short songs and pretty basic musicianship.
Nothing to scream about.
What they said. 3 or 4 stars given all the context, classics and bangers—but this era is not really my Beatles.
Listening at work. Classic Beatles. I know a lot of these songs, and really like some of them - All My Loving, I Want to Be Your Man), whereas others are not my favorite Beatles songs
It was fine. Not the worst thing I've ever heard. It just sounded flat. I appreciate that it was the Beatles though
Never a Beatles fan so utter dismay at this selection. I hope that I'm wrong about how I'll receive this album. I bopped to I Wanna Be Your Man This was not the worst thing I've endured :)
If heard too long and not in context of its time a boring album
Ehhhhh
Not my favourite of the Beatles albums.
Not my fav—like some Beatles but not an entire albums worth
Old Beatles is just not for me. If I want classic pop tunes I'll stick with Beatles 1 or look elsewhere.
Meh. Nasal British pop. I'm sure there are better Beatles albums than this one. They're kind of a big deal, right?
Boy band level shit. 1.7.
Sadly this album fills like filler in their catalogue. A few okay cover versions (Money, You Really Got a Hold on Me)and original tracks. If this were not a Beatles album, I don’t think this would be on the list of best albums ever.
It Won't Be Long, All My Loving, and Till There was You are decent songs. The rest sucks.
Much prefer their later music. This has a couple songs I still like but otherwise it's mostly skippable.
Meh.
I wouldn't call it enjoyable, I appreciated the covers but they sound lethargic compared to the originals.
This is The Beatles making standard music. It’s ridiculously uninteresting.
no es mi estilo, rock muy lento y tipico
How many Beatles albums am I supposed to care about? Is their whole discography categorized “must listen before I die?” The beat songs here are covers, the rest are whatever.
Na
Album moyennement intéressant
“With the Beatles” is from a time before albums as we understand them, back when they were just a vessel to carry singles and filler tracks. It is also the weakest release in the discography of the most acclaimed band of all time. It suffers in large part because it is compared to later albums where the goal was to record a coherent piece and not a slapdash recording to cash in on a brief window of fame, and because everything around it is great. It’s also just not particularly good, and if this was by a band that didn’t have “The Beatles” as their name it would’ve been forgotten a long time ago.
I really am not fond of the covers – ruins the album for me.
I'm not gonna pretend and I'm not gonna justify either. I don't enjoy listening to the Beatles. And this album is half cover songs. Sorry dawg, not for me.
Easy to forget that once upon a time, being a popular band didn't involve mostly playing original songs
Don't like the Beatles. Some of it was okay.
Could never get into The Beatles
early beatles is just meh
Can see where they'll eventually end up but this is still early on and a bit rough. Poppy, fun, but not much more than that. Not sure why it was felt necessary to include *every* Beatles album in this list.
Or a fave
Every time I see that I rolled a Beatles' album I let out an audible groan. And every time I tell myself "Give it a fair chance and stay focused." I'm sure you can guess what happens next. I feel that if I was a more contemporary Beatles' fan, this would've been one of my more highly-regarded albums. But since I wasn't, and I'm not, it isn't.
The Beatles…hmm Do people still like the Beatles? What was it like hearing them on the radio? People probably enjoyed it then more than I do now.
Not a big early Beatles fan but there is no denying their impact on music.
How anyone could rate this collection of low effort poorly performed covers 5 stars is a mystery to me. Their original songs on this record bare some merit, but are similarly lackluster and in my opinion, boring. The Beatles would go on to inspire and shape music as we know it, but only because many other more talented artists were overlooked while they were put on a pedestal.
Thought this started off strong, really enjoyed the first couple of songs but then it just seemed to drift away. Felt a bit cobbled together, but I’m not sure why. Nothing terrible about this by any stretch, but just a bit standard and not very interesting, bar a couple of tracks
Yep, that's old Beatles. Usually used to hearing it from snippets of live footage completely being drowned out by screaming girls. Very much of its time, early rock and roll. Hard to imagine this being any sort of counter culture, it sounds so painfully family friendly. Breezed by fairly quickly but there's nothing to get excited about.
