Reviews (page 14 of 14)
As this list has gone on I've enjoyed The Beatles more and more, however this album is not one of their best. Their lyrics and sound is pretty generic. I liked a few tracks and the runtime is so short that I can forgive it but most of the songs are written espeically for women. Highlights: It Won't Be Long Please Mister Postman Money (That's What I Want)
Did not enjoy
Feels a little amateur considering I just listened to Rubber Soul two days ago. Who knew there would be so much Beatles on here.
Eh. An extra star for "All My Loving." I don't think this has aged well outside of Beatles fandom. The covers aren't as good as the originals, and reflect the period in which white artists co-opted songs by artists of color. Also, I understand the history of it, but the left/right separation is truly awful.
Beatles/5
Ei mun lempi-Beatlesia.
Hiukan ehkä turhanpäiväistä rallattelua. Ei oikein tarjonnut mitään ihmeellistä. Beatles ei oikein vaan oo mun juttu muutamaa kappaletta lukuunottamatta
I love the Beatles this isn't my favourite album.
Oof, this is likely my least favorite Beatles record. There are hints of greatness, the melodies on 'All My Loving' and 'Don't Bother Me' and quite a few vocal harmonies, but nothing ever quite evolves into a truly great song. The cover of 'Devil In Her Heart' comes close to greatness, and the covers of 'Please Mister Postman' and 'Roll Over Beethoven' provide some much energy halfway through the record. But the musicianship of the Fab Four doesn’t quite hold up on these fast-paced tracks, and especially Harrison's solos are surprisingly painful.
Weird album. The beatles minus most of the hits. Weird cover choices
2/5. Sure some good songs on her but overall a pretty boring album. Half of these songs are covers so not great, and the other half, although original, only a few stand out as classics. The others are throwaways. I understand it’s the Beatles but even on its own, it’s just okay.
For a 60's album this has a massive 50's vibe. Some good tracks and generally all listenable but I prefer later, more polished Beatles.
Ja inte Beatles bästa album
Varför den här av alla?
I understand why this album is on the list; it is a great artifact of the Beatles going into Beatlemania. Recorded with a little more time and polish than Please Please Me, but retains a strong connection to the Hamburg Beatles (especially in the covers and Astrid Kirschner influenced cover). This was the UK's second ever million selling LP (after the South Pacific soundtrack). Massively popular and influential. But is it really that great to listen to now? I own this record, but I don't think I ever pulled it off the shelf in preference to other Beatles records. This deserves to be on the 1001 list, but not even nearly my favorite Beatles album. But it's the Beatles, you know?
Streaming services only having the stereo version sucks because that mix is shit. I listened again in mono but honestly the album ain't that good.
If they stopped after this album, the Beatles would've fallen off the face of the earth into obscurity. "With The Beatles" shambled so that "Abbey Road"/"Sergeant Pepper's.." could SPRINT.
Ik loef The Beatles.
I’ve always said the best Beatles songs are the ones that the girls didn’t scream at. This one was a screamer. Not a lot offered by the “fab four” here instrumentally. But I do enjoy some of the vocal melodies.
I know the Beatles are practically sacred, but I looked through my previous ratings and I like everything I gave a 3 better than this. So here we are.
I’ve never really been a fan of the Beatles despite their popularity and I think this album just sums up my feelings. I imagine the Beatles were probably making very different music to others in the 60’s and that can be seen be some of their top hits on ‘Abbey Road’ but this album doesn’t sound much different to some of the stuff on the Buddy Holly record I was given to listen to a few days ago and I said the same about that record, although there is a classic sound to both albums, the majority of songs are fairly basic in their instrumental patterns and incredibly repetitive to the point where you can guess what the chorus is going to sound like just based off the title alone, actually re listening now I think every songs chorus is just the title of the track repeated with not even anything more added. There was some nice instrumental choices on tracks such as ‘Little Child’ and ‘Roll Over Beethoven’ and some cool vocal inflections throughout but there was nothing about this album that made me want to come back to it. Would just like to add that for some reason on Spotify the vocals were coming through the right headphone whilst the instrumental the left, I only found it happening with this album and it made the listening experience a bit strange.
Would I listen to this if it wasn't the Beatles?
still don't like the beatles
Klar. Es sind die Beatles. Meilenstein, Legenden, Einmalig etc. pp. Aber halt einfach so gar nicht mein Genre. Also zwei Sterne aus Respekt, aber das ist nix, was ich mir privat anhören würde.
It's alright. I don't vibe too much with it. The mix doesn't work well on headphones since the vocals are almost entirely towards the right, and all the interesting instrumental stuff happens on the far left.
Completely dated and so mediocre
The Beatles undeniably influenced popular music, I won’t butt heads with that. Still and all, this album is just dullish. 30 minutes of similar-sounding tracks, both instrumentally and lyrically. Highlight: Till There Was You
A perfectly enjoyable collection of songs, but why is it on this list?
Underwhelming covers album.
Yawn, bland and a bunch of pointless covers. Definitely the most boy band esque from them that we've had so far
not their best
2.5 I’m generally pretty hit or miss when it comes to the Beatles. Lately I’ve been leaning more towards hit as I’ve enjoyed the last few albums we’ve listened to (short of most of the white album). ‘With The Beatles’, however, despite having a few of my favorite Beatles singles, is mostly a miss for me. This is the first time that the bubble gum love songs sounded really phoned in and formulaic. Maybe I’d feel differently if I was a teenage girl in the 60s, sadly though, I’m not. I never felt like I was the target audience. Also, most of the time no one sounded like they were quite on the same page, nor were they performing very well in general. The cover of ‘Please Mr. Postman’ is iconic, but ELO did roll over Beethoven waaay better. The back half is a cool break in the formula, depicting internal conflicts of new and old loves, which is when I felt like the album made any real attempt to branch out and relate to its audience. By the time it was over, I feel like it ended right when it was getting started, leaving me mostly disappointed. Favorites: It Won’t Be Long, All My Loving, Please, Mr. Postman, Hold Me Tight, Devil in Her Heart
2 And for our 100th album, it’s another Beatles album… and an early one at that. While I’ve already said my peace on early Beatles albums, I guess I can admit I enjoyed this one slightly more than a Hard Day’s Night. Hell, I might go as far as to say I kind of enjoyed All I’ve Got To Do, despite its cheesiness. As a whole I feel like I’m less offended by the bubble gumminess, though it did start wearing on me at the end. Maybe I’m just less (or more) jaded than I used to be. Probably wouldn’t listen again, but I guess I didn’t completely hate it. At least it wasn’t long. Also random factoid - this album dropped the same day Kennedy was assassinated. So by default, I guess this wasn’t the worst thing to happen on that day in history (though the CIA might beg to differ).
I get it. The Beatles are slaves to the system at this point and have to crank out several records a year. So this is a pretty slight record. All My Loving is really good though. This is also top tier Beatles album covers though
It Won't Be Long - 3/5 - its alright, nothing too special All I've Got To Do - 5/5 - i like it lol All My Loving - 4/5 - solid Don't Bother Me - 2/5 Little Child - 2/5 - wtf Till There Was You - 4/5 Please Mister Postman - 3/5 - carpenters better lmfao Roll Over Beethoven - 3/5 - kinda nice, a lil funky Hold Me Tight - 2/5 - mid You Really Got A Hold On Me - 3/5 - intro was good but rest is ok I Wanna Be Your Man - 2/5 - lmfao Devil In Her Heart - 4/5 Not A Second Time - 2/5 Money - 3/5 - mid :(
I know it's the Beatles, but this is such a meh example of the Beatles that I can barely finish writing this revie
Yeah this is probably the worst Beatles record. It's about 50% covers, all of which have been done better by other artists. Somehow the best song on this has Ringo on vocals. Maybe I'm being overly harsh because I'm comparing it to their later work, but this isn't it chief
The Beatles had to teeny-bop before they could run
typical Beatles. Wonder what anybody ever saw in them, even 60 years ago...
Generic pop
I've already heard this album, somewhere from 4 - 6/10.
Bit basic, just ok.
Generic sounding 60s pop. The best songs on here were covers, with the exception of All My Loving. Pre-Rubber Soul Beatles were mid imo
Filler, v little killer
Lyssnade på vägen mot Paris från Gif-Sur-Yvette.
Man, I just can't with early Beatles stuff. It's just a bad Motown impression.
Little child? Bit noncey that. Thank God for hallucinagenics, the Beatles were so safe and irritating until they started taking drugs.
Bit dull really, you can tell they've not really found their own sound and it just comes across like a load of covers.
I understand why this album is on the list; it is a great artifact of the Beatles going into Beatlemania. Recorded with a little more time and polish than Please Please Me, but retains a strong connection to the Hamburg Beatles (especially int he covers and Astrid Kirschner influenced cover). But it's the Beatles, you know?
Not really my style. Loved how the vocals were panned in the right side. Hence the word, stereo
Listening to this album is like eating pasta before you cook it. Some weird people enjoy it, almost too much, but the rest of us are more interested in the finished product. There are some catchy songs here, but nothing classic. Plenty of great harmonies and musical moments, but it fails to coalesce in the way most great albums do. It just feels a bit rushed and as if it's trying to manufacture success based off of their previous sales.
Not a Beatles album again !
Well, somewhat cheesey, but of it's time. Signs of things to come but not something I'll willingly play.
More Beatles. Still not a fan
Of its time. Nothing bad about it, but not my thing and not a patch on what they became a few years down the line.
A long way from my favourite Beatles album
All my loving, Postman, Beethoven and Money are great, but I'm not particularly impressed with the other songs - very so-so. I don't think the Beatles hit their stride until their third LP, the awesome Hard Days Night.
Early signs of the Beatles are within, but essentially in the form of vocal harmonies. There are a couple of tunes I recognize. Decent enough pop listening, but mostly an introduction to the rest of the band's discography.
Can hardly believe I'm giving this score, but if wasn't for the Beatles name it might even be lower, found this album boring and dated, all my loving has a bit of foot tapping to it, but have to be objective
Honestly, fucking hell. This has no place here, it's just boring SHIT. 2/5.
Not a fan of earlier Beatles albums
Never been a Beatles fan... Their later stuff is better than this...
Never been crazy about early Beatles stuff. I get how important these albums are from a historical point of view, but musically it just doesn't do it for me.
Incredibly annoying
It fell flat for me. The energy felt lame. It really did feel like a boy band aimed at the teen. Maybe I wasn’t there target audience. Maybe I am just not into the beetles’ earlier work.
Still during the early period where half the songs were original, the others were covers. This record doesn't really stand out for me. It's better than the stagnant "For Sale," but I like Please Please Me and A Hard Day's Night better. So, this one is great but it's sandwiched between better records. What I like about these early records is that you can hear Lennon's talent and leadership. He was the frontman in the early years. "All I've Got To Do" is one of my favorite Beatles harmonies from the early years. I can't wait to rate A Hard Day's Night. Assuming it's on the list. Ha. Rating this one as it compares in the Beatles catalog (catalogue?).
Too much like The Beach Boys
They hadn't quite found their groove on this one yet.
Not my type
pretty boring
Pretty forgettable pop from the era. I'm also not a big cover-song kinda guy, and I really had to resist the urge to skip those tracks. Regardless of the musical shifts they made over time, I've never been a huge fan of the Beatles. This didn't change anything for me.
It's no Revolver.
This may have been truly transformative for the time, but to my ear listening this for the first time it sounds like generic bubble gum pop-y music. Very much not a fan. Each song sounds exactly like the others. Melodies and lyrics are uninteresting and empty. I feel like I'm watching a commercial. Maybe Pepsi? "Money that's what I want" could be the commercial music for some new stock brokerage. Just cutesy background filler noise.
This album kinda sucks, every other beetles album is better.
Classic early Beatles. Back when they were all-in on bubblegum pop.
Production: 6/20 Songwriting: 5/20 Innovation: 6/20 Bangers: 5/20 Emotional response: 4/20 =26 This serves as a testament to how much these silly fella changed throughout their career innit
Not a great Beatles album
I've never really loved the Beatles, especially their earlier work, and unfortunately this album reflects that. I can appreciate what the Beatles did for rock and the impact they had on society, but this album didn't push the needle that much for me.
I love the Beatles but these are not my jam, especially the remastered versions...
Meh. Kinda boring to me to be honest I didn't even want to finish it, I made it to the 6th track. I'm not knocking what they did for the music scene as a whole, The Beatles generally just aren't for me. I think I'll be OK without fully listening to this one before I die.
The complete lack of variety in subject matter, instrumentation or production makes the album kind of a slog to listen to Favorite Song: 'Til There Was You
Hate them
I'm already not excited for this, to be honest. Pre-acid Beatles isn't really my cup of tea.
personally not my taste.
The Beatles may not be my thing, but I've still been able to give their albums 3s for being important and/or at least having catchy jingles. Until now. I honestly don't feel this album clears either of the two aforementioned hurdles. The only passable tracks are covers done better by others. Considering the Beatles already have sufficient, more relevant representation on this list, I would definitely pitch this one. Hard.
This has to be the weakest Beatles album so far. This did nothing for me.
didnt listen cause im not listening to another damned beatles album.
the lyrics could‘ve been written by a little child in kindergarten, the music is too simple and joyful, a little disappointment
I'm not used to listening to songs like that. I don't know why people like them so much but.....tastes
0/10
realistically not great is it. It won't be long is a fine song
Terrible. Not much else to say.
I hate the Beatles with a passion. Most ass eaten band of all time. These fucking insipid little songs ruined my drive home yesterday.
A bunch of 16 year olds singing covers. It's basically kidzbop.
I really can't fw the Beatles sorry.
boring af
Liked reallllyyyy 2 songs 1. All I've got to do 2. You really got a hold on me Album wise not enjoyable for me, I am not content. Song wise decent songs not my type but even though not my type I felt like it was hard to listen. And I thought I would like almost every song if I heard them separately. So yeah 1/5. Sorry I am not made for everything, everything is not for everyone.
At first I was like "yo this stereo version is absolute shit, I gotta find a mono version", but when I tried the mono version I was like "yo it's actually not about mono or stereo, it's shit either way" Still, the stereo mix is the retardest idea ever. No wonder The Residents used this particular album art for a bit of trolling
For the first time in my life I have actually been happy over my speakers being broken and no longer able to play specifically the right side of stereo sound. It means that when I got tired of listening to this shite I could just take my headphones off, turn my speakers on and only hear the instrumentals (still bad but manageable)
Okay, gotta be honest, I'm not a big fan of the Beatles. I find them a little bit bland even if I know the historical weight they hold but I also have to admit that I have never listened to any of their albums completely, only the songs that are the most famous, so here I am full of hope that there is at least one song of them that is gonna shake me to the core so let's see. Surprise me Okay, update, I'm halfway the album. Still nothing has shaken me to the core and actually I'm a bit disappointed because the Beatles are serving zero homoerotic vibes even when they are described as a boy band. I have a lot of thoughts, none of them are kind. Update #2. Some things are better to left unsaid. That's all I'm gonna say, actually I think i said enough. I just feel like I just ate a bowl of unseasoned chicken. I'm gonna shut up now
Very of a time and place, not any of their best songs on.
*jack off motion* *WWE cross chop crotch thrust* *farts* Leave the postman the hell alone!
At this point they weren't very good.
Not my type of music
A few great songs
Oh no. I really wasn’t looking forward to the day The Beatles would end up in my list. Never liked them. No nostalgia attached. Maybe not the best album to be served up as a first album full listen.
Not my kind of music
I think I'm just not in a great mood today and I shouldn't take it out on this album, but oh well. When man first discovered that they could record and broadcast music in stereo rather than mono it was a breakthrough that everyone recognized as genius. You could get higher fidelity in recordings to the point where you could finally pick out specific instruments. You could even pinpoint where in the room those instruments were being played (sound stage). It was revolutionary and bands were experimenting with the new technology. Like most experiments, they sometimes get pushed a little too far. That is what happened here. John, Paul, George, and Ringo were sitting in a room and decided why don't we put all of the instruments on the left side of the room, and we will all sing on the right side. But won't that get a little annoying only hearing lyrics out of one side? Who cares. This is stereo technology we're talking about. We have to put it to the test. I absolutely can't stand the production of this recording. I'm getting a headache out of one side of my head. It's like when 3D movies were a thing and you could tell every shot that was intended for 3D. Did it add to the film? No. Is it distracting and take you out of the moment? Yep. Are people going to hate it in the future? Probably. So why are we doing it? Cause it's new and cool! I couldn't tell you much about the actual music. I was too distracted by this stupid stereo recording to pay attention to it. Fuck you Parlophone. I hope you're proud of that little "stereo" stamp in the top right corner of the album art.
the worst thing in the world
Till There Was You is quite nice but I'm surprised this album is on the list - it's quite forgettable. Constant harmonising lol.
Look, I put on With the Beatles expecting a cosmic revelation - like, maybe the sky would crack open and Ringo would descend in a glowing egg to teach me the secrets of rhythm. Instead, I got… a bunch of songs that sounded like they were recorded inside a mop bucket while everyone was politely trying not to sneeze. It's like they had one microphone, half a sandwich, and a dream. Sure, they’re The Beatles, but this album feels like when you're really hungry and you make toast, but the bread is still kind of cold and the butter just sits there looking judgmental. I mean, did they have fun? Probably. Did I? I kept waiting for it to kick in, like maybe the real album was hiding under the first one, like a secret bonus Beatles within the Beatles. Nope. Just more claps, polite guitars, and harmonies that sound like three cousins trying to sing over a fan. “Roll Over Beethoven”? More like Roll Over and Maybe Take a Nap, Beethoven. And “All My Loving” is nice if you enjoy love letters read aloud by someone who’s thinking about their laundry. There’s no chaos, no grit, just a whole lot of early-sixties musical oatmeal. I respect the history. I do. But listening to this felt like being trapped in a black-and-white TV where the only show is "British Guys Smile Politely While Singing Fast." I wuld rather talk to the taxman about poetry.
George Harrison doing please mr postman… please. It’s like they’ve been brought out in chains to perform for an Eastern European dictator who wants to listen to ‘western music’.
dirty fucking hippies.
Hate the Beatles. Only good songs are covers.
In my opinion the worst pre-Rubber Soul album for the beatles. Young, immature song writing and uninspired covers make for a 30 minute LP that feels like an hour. I'm genuinely surprised this is on the list. Considering this didn't release in the US or Canada, it's hard to attribute the cultural phenomenon of Beatlemania to it even. A great example of what the floor is for The Beatles.
i did not enjoy that one bit. no sax solos too.
Is this the Beatles before they were cool? Vocals all being in exclusively the right ear is not pleasant.
Não gosto muito dos beatles
Nope.
would rather end my life than listen to the beatles willingly
So cheezy, so adolenscent... "I'm kissing the lips that I'm missing", "I love you madly, you treat me badly" - all right, gents, that's early stuff, got it. Still strange that The Beatles of Yesterday, Come Together and Eleanor Rigdy had blown up with this. It was a fun way to shake the dust off the legends.
Just ok. Kind of over the Beatles.
Meh. Don’t get the fascination for the Beatles.
no
Never been a Beatles fan
meh
:(
Boy Band Cover Songs.
It's just not very good is it? On top of being long and obnoxious.
you must depart for uzbekistan. the time is near. they are approaching faster than imagined. they can smell you.
It’s terrible isn’t it? Pure cringe. Thank God they evolved / found drugs.
Early Beatles just sounds dated nowadays. I don't mind the numerous cover versions on this mixed in with the odd self penned song. but its just pure pop music for the screaming hoards. Its all a very happy and positive sound of youth, before experience of life, and drugs kicked in.
I don't like the Beatles. Not for me, a snoozer of an album.
1/14. dece 7/100
Not a fannnn
Lyder godt, men super uessentiel
Yet another load of crap. Get me out of this fucking decade.
CRINGE
nightmare blunt rotation 2/10
So many covers.
No thanks. Not today Satan!
type of music you share a milkshake with your gal to awful
meh 1/5
I know you don’t get the latter day Beatles without these Beatles. I just wasn’t interested in doing this kind of musical archaeology. This has got to be their worst.
With all due respect I thought it sucked
Go away
I acknowledge the importance of this band's later innovation and experimentation, but their early bowl-cut bubblegum bullshit belongs in the bin.
Not a fan of the Beatles
The most forgettable album in the entire Beatles catalog.
Melhor música: Money (That's What i Want)
3/10 one of the Beatles worse imo
In the historical context, this is essential album to listen to and become familiar with but considering my age and the thousands of times I've heard these songs it's just not all that enjoyable or pleasing for me to listen to anymore. For young people and new musicians and people that like to post soirees this album serves a purpose but like I said about the other Beatles album that I just listen to and for all the other Beatles albums you're going to send to me I must say this has been overplayed and it's just no longer fresh.
I just cannot get into the Beatles. I’m convinced people rate the albums so high because they feel like they are expected to.
Fuck the Beatles.
meh
I don't like music makeovers, especially not when the first recordings were uber classics. Don't mess with success!
💤
I just don't get it. The beatles are not that good. I genuinely cannot fathom how women used to hear this and foam at the mouth they loved it so much. wtf

Nah... didn't give it a fair chance, to be honest, but don't like the sound.
today is not the day all music sounds bad not the musics fault
Harte Nummer.
Much more classic rock and roll than I expected, but still obviously the Beatles. Not a fan. 1. Harsh, but it's 6am and I'm at Heathrow and allowed after a long flight!
I guess I only like the Beatles after they started doing drugs
Early Beatles leaves me cold.
Early black metal "pioneers" The Beatles do not impress. The tremolo on 'All My Loving' is especially pathetic. The only good thing about this album is it's short length, but I think it could be 33 minutes shorter. John Lennon is a false metal poser.
I ALREADY RATED THIS YOU IDIOTS
Dogshit saccharin pop music. Sounds like it was written by a 12 year old. Unbelievable how much people like this.
Not my favourite Beatles era. And the version of Money sounds AI-generated. They were the Sixties Westlife / Boyzone at this point. Quite liked the Harrison track on here, but it's no "All Too Much".
"And whi-ile I'm away-ay, I'll write ho-ome everyday-ay" Niet om aan te horen. Absolute dieptepunt hierbij: Ho(-o-o-o-o)ld Me Tight.
So boring , how can they known as best
Just... I know this album is from the 60s. I get that. But there's no saving it for me. The song topics are so repetitive, and the songs THEMSELVES are incredibly repetitive too. I also don't like any of their singing voices which doesn't help. That's probably a huge reason that I deride their 'wooo wooo woo' 'yeah yeah yeah' and other wibbly wobbly time filling vocals the Beatles use so often.
Don’t like the Beatles
I’m not an adolescent girl in the 60s so this does nothing for me. It’s another example of how the author needs permission not to add every album from iconic bands. It seems like he thinks that’s required. It’s ok to say a Beatles album isn’t great and in comparison with their other albums it’s fine to leave it off the list for better albums.
Well here we are with another Beatles album and I'll say until I can't, most overrated band ever.... The 2 songs I actually like are remakes, Roll over Beethoven and Money. Go figure. Cheesy music and just not for me. Will not listen again. 1.5 and will score a 1 since the best songs were remakes. 1.5
👎no thanks
I really don’t like The Beatles man… this is painful
Why :( One star for till there was you which was not written by the Beatles. Drivel.
Lots of songs that sounded the same. Everything seemed to blur together. Overall didn't really enjoy.
Ffs
This won't be a popular opinion, but I don't rate The Beatles. The Stones were way better, as were The Kinks, as were The Small Faces. I say no to bland pop.
You can tell they were young here, as their songwriting is exceptionally kiddish and musical performance amateurish. There is very little interesting about this album outside of it being a historical curiosity. While a short album, it's still bloated with covers that are inferior to their originals, and the originals are fairly tepid pop songs about young love.
En saa tästä mitään.
Still don't like the Beatles. Don't @ me.
Meh
Rock and roll babyyy
This album sucked.
