Girl group New Wave. Best Tracks: How Much More, Tonite, We Got The Beat

Catchy pop, but pretty lightweight.

It was alright, nothing more. **

Ik vind dit totaal niet bijzonder

I don’t know, I didn’t need that much GoGos in one sitting

I really wanted to like it - I love the opener but the rest of the album becomes a bit of a chore. You can appreciate how they opened the door but its just a bit to girl band at times.

Not bad, just not really my style

I'm a real slut for this kind of girl pop/rock music.... but this was just ok to me. The singles are worth listening to and the rest feels like generic 80s filler.

Almost as if the Friends theme song was on repeat for 11 tracks in a row. Giving strong Glitter Boys vibes. Would dance to this music by spinning in circles while jumping up and down quickly. Title song sounds like a mash up of We Are The Kids in America, Green Day, and the movie Grease. Would make good music for dramatic soap opera montages or driving scenes in the movie Clueless. This album is not the song by Justin Bieber and Nicki Minaj, nor is it similar in any way.

So many tracks I've never heard. Not a big fan of their up-beat jangly songs, which is what I always associated them with. But Fading Fast and Automatic in particular are great. Can hear the influence they likely had on Veruca Salt, Elastica, etc. Tough call, can I split this into two separate albums and rate separately?

Rated using my new system: Production: 11/20 Songwriting: 9/20 Innovation: 6/20 Presence of pure bangers: 5/20 Emotional response: 5/20 =36 Between 20 and 40 is a 2.

5/10 alright lady punk, not for me.

I listened tl about half of it, not my favorite cup of tea

Energisk new wave 80 pop, udelukkende kvinder

Oh good, some new wave. It's been a few days. Fucking hell. Like this is kinda ok, there's nothing wrong with it, but it really is unremarkable, and why is there so fucking much of it on this list?!?!?! It ain't RIGHT, damn it. 2/5.

I almost gave it two stars, because I know it was a whole thing in 81, but I just really fucking hate this and couldn’t listen to the whole album. I get it, it’s catchy, it’s female “punk” that is also pop, the harmonies work... but I just really fucking hate it and something about the timber in the vocals just puts me off. Sometimes music surprises me by how fresh it can sound after decades and decades, but this just sounds like a relic of the early 80s in the worst way possible.

Album cover ass. One of them look like a relative so thanks for that I guess a little weird.

Not for me pop shite

Boring as hell

Getting this album on my birthday ruined my day.

Struggled to get through it. Not a bad album as such, just a very plain sound with nothing worth watching out for. Probably not going to go back to this album, although didn't hate the album, wouldn't mind if someone else is playing it.

The instruments sound very shallow. The songs all sound similar. Not a fan.

Dont like it

Good but samey

Very upbeat, I don't think that's really my style. I get a very "80's high school girl" vibe from it. That being said, I can understand why people would like it

puta mierda

I like their famous track but the rest is SO banal oh my GOODNESS couldn't get past Lust To Love.

Kind of music that rather annoys me

Not my type of music.

Not my vibe after a couple songs. They all started to sound the same.

Poppy rubbish.

Nej.. alt for 80’er punk poppet i irriterende tempo

Struggled through this. Reminded my of a reporter friend in the early 90s, a guy who was all about this band. Never got that.

Very upbeat but too monotonous for me. I’d compare it to a discount ABBA.

Not really my taste in music, felt very bland.

More like skid marks from my shart.

It was hard for me to start this album. It’s a bit too loud for my taste. If I heard it by chance on the radio, I wouldn’t skip it it’s cool, it’s nice, but not something I’d listen to on a regular day.

Nooo, I didn't like it because it reminds me of ABBA a little.

blah, all the songs sound like the same. This is not my thing in any way.

I just could not make myself listen to it

My ears are ring-ing

not for me.

Shit Sandwich

Boring, hard to listen to. Why would anyone need to hear this before they die!?

Nein! Mag ich nicht! Klingt alles gleich!

Every song sounds the same. It's cool for the first half but drags bad in the second. 4.5/10

Not for me

So middle of the road that it deserves nothing. A waste of time.

elevator music

Ganz nett aber keine Erleuchtung.

Didn't like, boring

Never was my kind of music

nothing standout just some poppy rock i’m not gelling with

I find my mind blanking on what to wit about this album. It really didn't do anything for me. There was a couple songs I recognized on it.

Bubblegum 80’s pop of no interest to me at all. Only good thing is that The Go-Go’s included Jane Wiedlin who went on to record a great single Rush Hour which is one of my top guilty pleasures. None of the tracks on this album resemble or come anywhere near that. 1/5 27/12/24

W sumie idealnie pasuje do amerykańskich malls, gdzie królował. Ocena: Mocne 1, bo śmiechłem po zobaczeniu tytułu "Skidmarks on my heart"

1/5. this town was ok. but every song sounded kinda the same.

not for me

Meget same nærmest naivt anime agtigt

Awful jangly guitar pop with little to no variety across the tracks.

Best Song: This Town Hits: Our Lips Are Sealed, We Got The Beat Worst Song: Skidmarks On My Heart I'm not sure if I like this album or any less than Belinda Carlisle's solo work. Her voice is annoying and while Our Lips Are Sealed and This Town are not terrible, we Got the Beat is the album's big hit and it is horrible. It's mind boggling that this made the list. It feels more like they had to find a way to put in an "all-girl" rock band than this being a deserving entry. I also realized while listening to it that I like New Wave less than Psychedelic rock. Every backing track of every New Wave song sounds like every song on this album.

Quite nice pop but not very inspiring and vocals with a thin voice

unlistenable bubblegum trite. a body composed seemingly as a vehicle to justify the perfectly sandwiched we got the beat, which itself is washed out by the soulless homogeneity of each song.

Here we go go again.

Bit of a struggle. Sacked of half way

Eh. Even we got the beat isn't a song I really like. Vacation is a good one but it's not on this album. The lead singer actually reminds of Carrie Brownstein from Sleater-Kinney. I know this is a subjective review as there is nothing on face value wrong with the band but the songs are just kind of boring to me. I'm sure they're a fun show/good band but not my favorite new wave band.

I needed this after crosby stills and nash - fun pop light antidote. fun candy floss. some fun but nothing stunning - nice to hear Belinda Carlisles voice on a few.... how is this essential listening. to document the pop of the era, the first big girl band in a while? does that mean Bananarama will be here too?

Insignificante

A really bad experience for me. It makes me think a group of Taylor Swift minded teenage girls decided to form a band. The problem is, their voices sound even more immature than some of their lyrics. I tried to play a game called Genshin Impact, but couldn’t get past a sidekick fairy called Paimon, and her atrociously annoying voice. This band sounds like a group of Paimon’s decided to form a band. Unfortunately, because of the nature of this album challenges, I am completing every album I listen to. I wasn’t able to stop at Paimon’s voice. The musicians are pretty good though. The songs just don’t seem to be well written to me. Taylor got 2 stars with her 1989 album from me because everything about the album was pretty good, just a little lifeless in the themes for me, as I can’t connect to them. Beauty and The Beat was everything I disliked about 1989, and less. I feel like Taylor deserves more than two stars after hearing this album, and it doesn’t seem fair to have her album be a consecutive number of stars next to The Go-Gos 1 star.

Ok music but did not move me so much.

Generic pop album, unoriginal sound, don't really see the appeal of any of these songs. I do enjoy the instrumentals. 1/5

No thank you

I always felt the Go-Gos were a second rate B52s. Still bubblegum annoyance but with less catchy tunes. Here in the UK the FunBoy 3 did the opening track more effectively. I wish these women had their lips sealed. I was right. Absolutely not one of the 1,001 albums I needed to listen to before I die. Though , as the album develops, there are hints at a sub-par Levellers/REM. That folk/indie undercurrent but I just can’t get beyond the cheesy vocals. I don’t recall Belinda Carlisle’s solo career sounding so grating but, yes, I didn’t like Jane Weidlin’s Rush Hour.

Didn't like it

Don't know why but this music puts me in an intensely bad mood.

Not my cup of tea

Not really my cup of tea. We got the beat is the best song off the album but it is not something I'd try to listen to.

Almost every song is pure La-la-la from the Go-Gos. Only one song I half liked on this album - "Skidmarks on my heart".

I do not like

No way these gals are 'New wave'?! Blondie was New Wave, The Pretenders were New wave, this is pop. Our lips are sealed was co-written by Wiedlin and her then boyfriend Terry Hall from the Fun boy Three. I prefer the FB3 version I'm afraid which sums up my attitude to this. 2nd rate.

80-luku... kapitalismi... ronald reagan... mennään hengaileen...ostarille... coca-cola..wat disney.. charlie chaplin hehe hassu ukko hehe tämä alue ei varmasti dominoisi maailman pop kulttuuria seuraavat sata vuotta...I can only think of one reason why any record label would have wanted to sign them... heh... onko seksualisointi insinuaatio... en tajua... joo nostalgia pass kaikille vanhoille VANHOILLE PASKOILLE KÄHNÄSILLE... muuten paska albumi, onneksi 35min lust to love

eh not so good

Easily in the top 5 of my list: Albums Called Beauty and the Beat.

Szpile w glowie czesc trzecia

I'd rather cheese grate my nipples and shoved a corkscrew up my jap's eye than listen to this again. But, then again I do like doing both of those things.

hm this wasnt really my vibe, i kinda gave up listening after a few songs #oops

not my cup of tea

Oh I just can't

In general, it’s not my thing. Favorites: This Town, Fading Fast

This town!!!
