Reviews (page 11 of 13)

Solid album, easy listening.

This is a fun album. I was surprised I knew more songs than We Got the Beat (from Rock bank). Good album, overall!

Not bad. It's no luft balloons tho

Tonite and This Town are good ones.

Jangly guitar at its finest.

This is a weird case where as a pop album, it has the issue a lot of punk albums have of being too repetitive, and a lot of songs blend together. It's like punk-lite, though, as it still feels like you could hear each of these songs on the radio and think "yeah, this belongs here" and not think anything of it for a moment. I could see myself liking this a lot more in a different mood, as each song is catchy and had me tapping my foot, but I'd forget the song as soon as it ended nearly every time, and that makes the whole album feel forgettable. Like, I completely get why this is here, and I think if I were to dig into this album deeper I'd really like it, but as far as impressions go, this just doesn't grab me enough to earn repeats in my own free time.

Simple 80's fun. Never heard of the group before. Interesting to see an all female rock group. Music not memorable to me.

Not quite an album act, but the singles here are a perfect sample of female-driven 80’s pop. The drumming is very propulsive. Our Lips are Sealed is so good.

Carried by the strength of ‘Our Lips are Sealed’ and ‘We Got The Beat’. ‘You Can't Walk in Your Sleep (If You Can't Sleep)’ is strong too. The rest of the album is poppy and fun, but kind of blends into itself as none of the rest of the songs really stand out, making the album somewhat forgettable as a whole.

Catchy, decent energy, a bit too 80s for me but good enough.

Cracking pun in the album title, and the album itself doesn't disappoint. Didn't think I'd heard of these before, but I knew the first song, and the other single. Infectious energy, lovely pop punk with a bit of new wave thrown in. It's a really fun listen, not as polished as the Blondie album that we had in a similar vein, but well worth a whirl. 3/5.

Some real heavy hitters on this album, definitely enjoy the Go-Go's but it's a pretty light, poppy sound

Also 2.5. Not terrible, had it's time and place but not what I'd now want to listen to often.

Lightly punky, guitar pop. Fun, but nothing too notable

A couple of good songs but mostly forgettable generic 80s sound.

fun and upbeat, bit too poppy to get any higher though

didn't mind it!

Quite boppy, listened on the way to a stag do so forgot it really, need to relisten

Good vibe music for sure!

This album deserves to be on this list but the album cover is absolutely awful. In fact, all three of their early albums have bad album covers. I have no idea what the intended message was to be. Both R.E.M. and the Go-Go's were on the I.R.S. label and I can hear some similarities in the music. This is not punk, as this is new wave music. I want to like this music so much, as it is an important album, yet it feels too poppy and there is some sameness to the album's sound overall. The producer worked with Blondie, and later the Dum Dum Girls, so I don't think this is a case of the producer making the sound more palatable at the expense of a more edgy sound. It's a really good album, even though "We Got the Beat" can get bent. Just a dumb and inconsequential song. My biggest issue is you can feel the musicianship in the sound, but the lyrics are pretty trite and improved on their second album (at least in my opinion). This is an essential album though.

Eh, it’s fine.

This was a kind of bubbly pop rock album that was enjoyable, but rather short. I looked it over all. 3.5/5

Original girl pop in the best way. Interesting to read about their origin and hear some of the later all female groups that use albums like this for inspiration

A few surprises but eh

Lovely album, feels like I've heard it before possibly because it was a trailblazer and other people made plenty of music that sounds just like it.

Decent pop soft rock album. Good melody’s and chorus lines. Glad I listened to it.

A surprisingly fun new wave/post-punk album, it reminds me a bit of Blondie though the Go-Go's were an all-female band. My issue is that it sounds quite samey throughout the whole record so nothing really stood out to me.

Cornerstone new wave and the quintessential 80s album. Good hits and catchy beats.

This is an iconic album from the standpoint of women in punk music. I really enjoy the album, and would rate it higher if every song didn't sound so similar.

amm hmmmm idk

It was fine. I liked it slightly more than average but it was missing something that would make me really like it. 3.5/5

My sister wore out a copy of this album. It's decent power pop, and not supposed to be any sort of life changing experience... I mean, it's definitely significant in terms of having an impact for women in rock, and charted decently well, but I don't really see the point of inclusion, except precisely for the fact that these folks encouraged a lot of other ladies to get involved. Hard to imagine Hole or Sleater-Kinney if there were never any Go-Go's. Then again, Joan Jett might have been enough on her own!

Not bad. Really liked some instrumentals

It’s good pop-rock, but it doesn’t benefit from the album format. The Go-Go’s are just a singles band that don’t have that much song variety (although ‘Lust To Love’ is fairly different from the other stuff on here) and it shows. But to be honest, this album is still enjoyable, and ‘Our Lips Are Sealed’ and ‘We Got The Beat’ are two iconic 80’s singles. Just nice as an album, and worth a listen.

This is a punk album disguised as a pop album. Behind Belinda Carlisle’s pitch perfect vocal performance lies a rhythm section that’d make The Damned jealous and ripping riffs are absolutely excellent. Let’s not even mention just HOW catchy everything is.

go go go go go!

Some good jammers on here. A few super big songs. Good listen

I remember my sisters listening to this back in the day. Brings back some good memories. Our Lips Are Sealed has a solid bass line while We Got The Beat will always remind me of Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Decent outing.

We Got the Beat was so much more annoying than I remembered, but Our Lips Are Sealed and This Town weren't bad and they prevent this from getting 2 stars

Fine enough album. Something about the vocals didn’t do it for me

This is a dime a dozen.

Strong 3.5

B Our Lips Are Sealed - 3 How Much More - 3 Tonite - 3 Lust to Love - 4 This Town - 4 We Got the Beat - 4 Fading Fast - 3 Automatic - 3 You Can’t Walk in Your Sleep - 4 Skidmarks on My Heart - 3 Can’t Stop the World - 2 This was f***ing awesome! I loved every second of it. I figured it would be a Blondie rip-off but it actually surpassed Blondie and went at the neck of Heart. Great album, and a perfect example of why I do this generator.

New Wave begins. Sweet pop.

Nice New Wave album, very easy listening and fun pop Highlights: Our Lips Are Sealed, Lust To Love, This Town, We Got The Beat

Fun album.

somehow the fact that they are all female made this cooler

It's a pretty solid album. "Our Lips are Sealed" and "We Got the Beat" are definitely really great songs and I know were huge when they came out. Very infectious choruses and the music is smart and yet simple. I think it has a really attractive fun / energetic / flirty sound that makes the music for me be tied to a certain period of time but also allows the music to be timeless. Solid 3/5 for me. Maybe a 4 if I re-listened a few more times.

Top 3 Songs: 1 - We Got the Beat (6) 2 - Can't Stop the World (11) 3 - Our Lips Are Sealed (1)

It was a fun listen.

Catchy, but got repetitive after a while, because all the songs sound almost the same.

Tjejer!

De la pop efficace et satisfaisante. Je réécouterais avec plaisir

This didn't really grab me.

Soild 80s album

This is a surprisingly fresh listen for me. I never had a problem with the Go-Go’s, but probably never would’ve listened to this album otherwise. There’s some really good new wave pop here, taking influences from surf and 60s pop. Recommend This Town as a good gateway outside the two hits, which are also very good.

This Go-Go’s harder than I expected it to.

Like the energy ⚡ We Got The Beat

Pretty good album. Didn't blow me away.

Listened Before? N Sugary sweet pop mixed with some retro style and new wave. Good album, I enjoyed it a lot. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Our Lips are Sealed

Sonido ochentero. Fácil de escuchar.

If you want some 80's pop rock girl band, good place to start.

Debuutalbum van Amerikaanse new-wave band The Go-Go's.

Simply The Best!

Fun at the time and holds up today. Respect the drums.

Actually surprised. Enjoyed this one.

Some good songs. Not convinced it’s a great album.

Catchy and some memorable tunes. I like it.

Catchy pop-type stuff. Good to see they weren't a one-trick pony.

The Go-gos built a formula that works. Is it good? Maybe?

Nowadays I’d give it three stars. If I was a teen in the 80’s in the summer and had my sun tan lotion and sun reflector getting my tan on and I was listening to this…I’d give it three stars

Familiar with We Got The Beat and Our Lips Are Sealed, other than that this is new to me. Power-pop-punk. This has a good, fun energy, and there some neat hooks. Wasn’t expecting anything other than straight and fast 4:4 here, so the slower numbers were a nice surprise and a welcome change of pace. Very abrupt ending to the final song. Almost sounds like an error. I enjoyed this but I’m not feeling like I will want to revisit it often. Standouts: Tonite 3.5

Lust for love spoko, reszta średnia

It was OK. I'm glad I listened to it but I probably wouldn't again.

Debating between a 3 or 4. Enjoy the beats but it tends to fade into the background

Hyvää rockia, hyvillä melodioilla ja kitarakuvioilla. Kuullostaa vähän varhaiselta skeittipunkilta vähemmän säröisillä kitaroilla

Not bad! Missing my favorite Go-Go's track, "Vacation," but it's got some great songs regardless. We all know "We Got the Beat." There's a track called "Skidmarks on my Heart" which made me realize that the term "skidmark" probably originally referred to tire marks left by a vehicle, but it has since become something else entirely, something you certainly wouldn't ever want on your heart. Anyway, pretty solid album, nothing too crazy but I enjoyed myself. Favorite tracks: We Got the Beat, Our Lips Are Sealed, This Town. Album art: Is this the band? It seems like all guys, so I don't think so. But it's a spa day for whoever. The title "Beauty and the Beat" would later be co-opted by Justin Bieber for a pretty bland EDM entry, most notable for the Nicki Minaj feature where she calls Selena Gomez "Selener." 3.5/5

a fun and charming album--and not just the actual music, but the album title and cover were cute, too. the go-go's have a lot of pep in their new wave sound. there aren't a ton of sharp edges like in other punk bands of this time, but their fast speed makes up for it. and it was catchy! the choruses were undeniably crafted well. for a band that formed on happenstance, the go-go's seem rather put together while furthering a new sound. this was before the synth of the eighties, and not as punk or new wave as blondie. carlisle's vocals lend themselves to the punk genre. she doesn't come through clearly, and that works for new wave, too. 3.5

Making it as an all-girl band in any decade is an incredible feat, but especially in the punk genre. Some bands have had success with female lead singers, but an all-girl punk band would seem like a long shot for success. Punk tends to have some rough around the edges, calloused nuance, that would be more typical from men, and The Go-Go's knew that, so they did something different. They decided to have fun, and it worked. They didn't need to have the rough edges or the calloused nuance, and as a punk band, they were already playing against 'the man' by being women. In a way, listeners had to like them, but the The Go-Go's more than earned it with this album. Sadly, replicating their success would be difficult, The Go-Go's were certainly unique and any look at the music landscape would see that they were exceptional.

great beat (lol) lyrics were lacking diverse song content the sound felt very dated i loved the album cover

Probably closer to a "proto pop-punk" than simply a "new wave" record. Just all around fun.

Incredibly average album. Nothing that was exceptionally good or bad, just eleven songs that were moderately fun. Only unusual thing about this band is that it is a full-female group, which doesn't happen very often. The album is a somewhat mix of punk, rock and pop, where the average parts of each genre were thrown into the pot and an average soup (Beauty and the Beat) emerged. On to the next one.

A fun listen with a hit song that made me double take and say "that was them!?"

Yeah it’s fine.I wasn’t really listening intently though so maybe it’s better.

I'm surprised I haven't heard this band before. They're like the Housemartins if they were women. Great indie rock and roll. Wait, Belinda Carlisle is the drummer?! Okay the Housemartins similarity has faded as the album has gone on...a lot more punk rock this second half. Notable Songs - How Much More Tonite Lust To Love Overall pretty good. Surprisingly the more punk side started to wash over me a bit more, a lot more interesting in the first half. 7/10

Fun little album

not impressed

It's not fair to only give it 2 Stars, that's why it geht's 3.

V good 3.5

first listen crispy 80s pop

The album cover is very fitting, because this is a great record to dance to in your bedroom, right after you've taken a shower and while you're holding your hairbrush microphone. Straight up radio-friendly '80s pop that most people will either like, or pretend to like. Beauty and the Beat doesn't do anything particularly remarkably, but it doesn't pretend to do anything but be a fun pop record - and that's the best part about it. Standout tracks are We Got the Beat (unsurprisingly), Lust to Love, and Automatic.

Solid but not my thing. I thought "We Got The Beat" was a 60s song, to be honest.

I was already familiar with this album, not saying it's a masterpiece, but still enjoyed re-listening. 3.5

I liked some of the songs in the album but I do get why they became influential to a lot of pop and rock bands that came after them.

It's a fun album.

More my speed, but not as exciting as I’d hoped for

Our lips our sealed is great, and we got the beat is a ton of fun. Those are the only two songs I recognized. I feel like most of the album felt a little lacking, could have used more varied musical elements. Still a solid pop album

pretty fun girl rock group we got the beat is the song from this album 3.5

Edgy pop. OK but not really my bag

Tonite was a banger

Jingly

This was a fun one.

There were some bangers on this one, a lot of the songs sounded very similar though. I liked it.

I listened to this one fairly recently because I watched a documentary on the Go-Gos. It’s a classic album, but would it speak to me as much if I hadn’t watched the doc? Not sure. Also - another one you’d be disappointed to spend £7.99 on a cassette tape to find it was only 35 minutes long!!

So much fun, I feel like an 11 year old again.

So slick and well crafted I thought they couldn’t have formed on their own.

girlboss slay - we DO got the beat and our lips ARE sealed

Wowza girlboss

Beauty and the Beat is the debut album from new wave pop band the Go-Go's. It was a super successful album, being known as a cornerstone of the new wave pop rock music, and during its time it was one of the best performing debut albums. The album reached number 1 on the Billboard's Top LPs & Tape chart for six weeks, was certified double platinum, and was ranked second on Billboards year-end Top 100 albums of 1982. "We Got the Beat" is an easily recognizable single from this album because it became such a crazy hit that is still listened to today. Personally, I'm not a fan of pop, but the music on this album was too good to not like.

Very bouncy, rock/pop.Better than expected.

New wave . Pop

I mean besides a few stand out songs this is a pretty generic 80's upbeat pop record. It's no Blondie, but for an all female group that was (apparently) the first not to be managed by a man it's fine for the historical significance. It's alright, good enough for some mindless background music.

Excellent bubblegum pop with fast tight drumming and locked-in bass in every song, but very little else to attract me back again. Very radio lite pop, but driving rhythms. No heaven here, Belinda and nothing stopping me in any rush hour, Jane!

It's all pretty similar, upbeat and poppy. 3.5

This record is certanly a lot of fun and energy, but the all the rest is pretty standard. Still a decent project though.

Rellay good album, but not really for me.

Some songs felt very cure-esque. Londong burning etc

Bops all around

Have't listened to the Go-Gos before but have listened to Belinda before. This albums pretty good, not perfect. But very good. Love the verses of some of the tracks but let down in some of the choruses.

Fun, catchy pop tunes

easy listening i dont hate it, but i'm not in love with it either gets better the longer it goes on, i think i had to settle into their sound a bit before appreciating it

Super fun, a bit repetitive. Starts really strong and then levels out

Great energy, catchy tunes. The so glee stick out as significantly better than the rest.

I remember listening to the hits in my company car driving around Ottawa when I scored my first job. A few of the other songs are pretty good - I like "This Town." It's interesting that when they decided to form a "punk" band none of them could play instruments.

The first half of this album had some gas tracks that caught me off guard. The second half kind of fell off hard. 80s we’re a powerful time

Good, but not great. Doesn't sound like a band who sprung from friends seeing a Sex Pistols concert! Our lips are sealed and automatic were my favourite tracks, but plenty of others were good too.

Good, not great.

This is a good album to add to the rotation. It has the hits. The albums plays well from start to finish. The songs are not all next level but the band's sound carries it through the weaker songs. In the end, it captures the Go Go's really well which elevates it to rotational status. That bright, energetic burst has been multiple times copied without diminishing the original.

New Wave / Punk isn't really my thing, but I gave this one a shot. I find the instrumentation to be a bit bland for my taste, and nothing about the rest of this album is particularly interesting to me. Otherwise it remains consistent with the sound, so I can give them that I guess.

A couple good ones but not amazing. Average. Would rather just listen to individual songs

a solid new wave album

Genre: New Wave 3/5 One of the happiest sounding records I've listened to from this book in quite some time, the Go-Go's Beauty and the Beat kicks some lady ass, and features one of the most iconic songs of the entire decade: We Got the Beat. A new wave classic, We Got the Beat has transcended age and culture, and has stood the test of time as a true icon in the music world. With its driving rhythm and surf-style guitars, its energy is infectious and its melody is catchy as hell. The rest of the album is just as cute and adorable, but never goes beyond mild enjoyment. Our Lips Are Sealed, the album's opener, is a great little rock track that does a good job of kicking off the album, but unfortunately there aren't very many memorable cuts on the rest of the tracklist. A very easy listen, though, and an album that should be rewarding to any 80's heads out there. Decent.

Pretty good catchy songs with a nice sound. Nothing bad to drag it down but nothing exceptional to move it up to 4

Feels pretty 80's new wave - 3.5 for respect for hollywood punk, but not really my thing. Glad I listened to something I likely would not have though.

Decent pop LP that lives mainly by its refusal to go downtempo at any point in its runtime. The songwriting isn't mindblowing, but each track comes with a guaranteed fun melody and exciting (if somewhat repetitive) vocals that get the job done. Definitely enjoyed this and could see some tracks going onto a high-energy playlist.

Yep, this feels very much set in 1981. :-)

Liked the hea ier stuff like Automatic

Ima par pjesama kojima ću se vraćat - > How Much More, Tonite i Can't Stop World.

3.5 - "Our Lips Are Sealed" is one of those rare songs I'll always listen to until the end when it comes on the radio. This album also has "We Got The Beat", which, as far as 80s pop songs go, ain't half bad. The strength of the Go-Go's lies squarely in their ability to write catchy hook-laden earworms - their sound is decidedly minimal and their song structures relatively simple. While there are a couple of other catchy tracks (e.g. "Skidmarks On My Heart"), much of the rest is pleasant but forgettable.

Punk served lite (and I like it like that). Besides, I always liked the sealed lips song. Now I can add a wonderful album cover to the list.

Pretty good overall, we got the beat still slams.

Pretty okay

Our Lips Are Sealed is brilliant. The rest is ordinary.

Easy to listen to, not a standout for me

It's ok. Some big time hits that would make any 80's compilation and some decent songs that weren't all that memorable.

like some bastardised lovechild between the Smiths and the B-52s. two bands i like, but seperately. they're almost on to something, its potentially quite good, but not.

Not my style. Kinda Sleater-Kinney ish.

The live versions on the reissue are way more fun than the studio ones. Totally acceptable post-punk that didn't blow me away but was fun to listen to.

Some great songs and some clunkers. Tired of Belinda's voice about half way through the album because a lot of it sounds samey.

Aside from the two major hit singles, this is actually pretty good. I wasn't expecting to like it as much as I did. It's a pretty straight-forward album. Consistent as hell and quite fun to listen to. Not something I'd put on very often, but it's enjoyable.

Automatic är en kanonlåt, en femma. Resten not so much

Not listened to this album before. The 2 big singles are great. The rest is fairly standard fare for it’s time but is fine

Some of the songs kind of blended together for me but all in all a pleasant listen that I would put on again. Favorite song is still Our Lips Are Sealed, and We Got the Beat is great when not overplayed. Other songs I enjoyed were Automatic, You Can't Walk in Your Sleep (If You Can't Sleep), and Can't Stop the World. 3.5

The apostrophe really bugs me. Surprised by how much I enjoyed this one. I lived in Japan when they appeared on the scene so actually missed them first time around, along with a lot of 1981 things. They’ve seeped through to my cultural consciousness over time though. Very poppy and punky, they seem to occupy the same space as The Runaways (Cherry Bomb) and The Bangles, with occasional weird overtones of The Beach Boys. I wouldn’t go out of my way to listen to them, but I’ve not felt the urge to skip a track. Some good road trip tunes in there. The drummer is brilliant. Particularly in Can’t Stop The World. High point: Lust to Love.

Pleasant listening, just feels a little included due to what the album represents rather than the actual quality of the music.

Pure, distilled 80s music. Can’t hate on annoyingly catchy dance music. Favs: we got the beat, vacation

Alright

Interesting - but not a classic - some good songs and quite fun overall

Catchy riffs, good vocals

Energetic. Had never heard any of the songs but the hits that you normally hear on the radio.

Exuberant and fun pop full of pretty enjoyable hooks

okay. I am not a huge fan of rock bands with female leads.

Pop punk - and one of the best of the genre IMO. But ultimately disposable and not vital. Still fun though

Can only imagine the mountains of bullshit they had to deal with being an all girl band in the 80s. Tales of their cocaine use are the stuff legend. Nice album. Lust to Love and Fading Fast were my favs. Full marks for naming a song Skidmarks On My Heart.

Fun album

This album is fun personified.

Decent pop album with a few hits. Short album that’s concise and doesn’t waste space. 5.1/10

We got the beat is a legendary song. Could take or leave the rest.

Solid album chock full of hooks. Album seemed to get a bit darker as it moved forward. Cool to hear some of the new age, Devi-ish undertones. The track I was most familiar with (We Got the Beat) ended up being my least favorite on the album. Really enjoyed Our Lips are Sealed.

¿La banda original de Belinda Carlisle? Primera noticia. How much more, We got the beat, You can't walk in your sleep y Can't stop the world.

Pop animado. Ni fu ni fa.

Helt fanande

I thought this was OK, like fun but reminded so much of a not quite so good Blondie.

This was fine. Quite enjoyed it. I don't know the band and didn't recognise any of the songs but it sounds like a lot of other stuff from that time/genre

Poptastic

I definitely remember the singles off of this album. It was interesting to give the whole album a listen. "Can't Stop the World" was one of the new introductions to me that I though was pretty good. The track isn't alone. It is a solid album.

Poppy rock, definite shades of The Runaways.

definition of bubble gum pop. Didnt realise that wrote 'are lips are sealed with FB3

Lots of fun

alright listenable not memorable

the spice girls of the 80's! good poppy tunes.

Bouncy for a Monday

Good Mood Album. (6/10) Favourite Track: We Got the Beat

Realmente bbuen ritmo pero me aburria

alright

Solid 3.25.

Okay, very 80's sounding but very listenable. Pretty forgettable.

It has good beats and songs. Really, watching their documentary lets you appreciate it better in knowing their history. Female bands get bad raps because they are compared to their male counterparts, but the Go-Gos really should get more credits for all they did by going over to Europe (fuckin Europe, that's where people appreciate music). And then when you think about, there were no all female bands doing what they were. It takes fucking guts to get into playing bands, especially the punk scene, and to do it as a woman, fucking more power to them. Is it the greatest album in the world? No, but is it a good album? Yes. And it's their debut album too with successful songs. Not bad at all. I like it.

80s pop/punk/new wave. At points almost sounds like a precursor to CA surf rock.

I've heard "We Got the Beat" before, but the rest of the album was a little bit grittier and a bit darker than I had expected. Solid early pop-punk.

i would give this album a 7/10 if i could. i love it overall and i love the music and singing and it together but it isn’t incredibly fascinating to me, but a 3 is too low and 4 is too high. i’m really conflicted, but nothing completely STUCK out to me which is why it’s a three.

This one was a walk down memory lane. Love the couple of hits that came off this album. The rest was just so-so. Certainly listenable, but not that exciting either.

Love the bass. Wasn’t a fan of the vocals at the first listening but got used to it the second time.

For a long time when this first song ("Our Lips Are Sealed") was released I thought they were singing "Honest I See You..." (I was 10. but still.) Aside from the obvious all-female angle which was kind of a big "novelty" at the time (before ppl realized the music was just...good) it's not really groundbreaking musically and not super-repeatable but it's still just *fun* and catchy. Very melodic sing-along light up-tempo rock. A near guarantee for my generation (80s kids) to get an "oh my god!" if you put this album on with like-aged company. 6/10 3 stars.

Fun album, a little bit quirky, but no great singles I'll be adding to a playlist any time soon

i'd give this a 3.5 if i could.

Not very subtle.

A música we got the beat é péssima. Nota :5/10

Fine. A little overplayed.

They're actually a pretty good pop/rock group. Kinda wrote them off for being a "Girl Group" b/c they were so packaged back when I first heard them in middle school. Certainly a solid 3.

Not go much to say but enjoyed this one. Similar style to Elastica, sort of punk rock stuff but I preferred Elastica. Enjoyed "How Much More", "Tonite" and "Automatic".

Remaster sounds bright and wonderful. The live tracks are god awful though and should not have been included in this release or this 1001 albums project.

They've got the beat! This is pure, concentrated new wave in a bottle, and it's totally good for you maaaaan. It's simple enough: catchy hooks, drums keeping an peppy beat, and everything else to fill out the sound. There isn't anything else to this album; it delivers on the basics and that's all it needs to do. Songs don't stand out too much except for the two singles, but none of the songs are bad either! It's all good, that's pretty much it.

Can't remember it now. Think it was alright.

Punk rock vintage

good album, not many classics or memorable songs but a good album still. feels like [retty much all of the songs are like album fillers but good album fillers without a specific iconic song

oooh like these 80's beats. Again, not my fav, but catchy and fun!!!

Actually some great jams. Very b82s, or I guess very GoGos, don't know what came first. Some classics on this album, will listen again when in the mood for 80s pop

At first I thought I wasn't going to make it but I ended up listening from start to finish, really entertaining.

much 80s.

Pretty good. 6/10

Kinda like a female beatles, but not as ground-breaking.

Another classic

Fun, poppy, little bit samey

Fun beach pop

Pretty decent. I think the standout outside of the hits was Automatic.

Really brought back memories of being a young kid in the 80’s. My Dad had this album in his collection and I specifically remember you can see a nipple on the back of the album 😀

Great 80s jams

Nice to have heard. I only knew one song of the album.

Defining Pop punk sound of the 80s.

I don’t like high-pitched 80s girl-band pop. Their’s is probably some of the more tolerable though.

Very upbeat - radio shuffle led in to some other cool 80s music

Good stuff!

Some classic on this, pretty good.

Not bad, don't see how it's punk but I like a few tracks

Do not think it has held up so well and the songs sound way too poppy at this point in my life. Band needs to be put to rest.

#41 It's not my thing, but not a bad listen either. Pretty standard 80s pop-rock, fun and bouncy but also pretty one-dimensional. A few recognizable radio hits, but nothing that really grabbed my attention. 2.5/5

Our Lips Are Sealed We Got the Beat

Remember the single and liked it but found the rest just average . Bit soundtrack to an American teen movie sort of music .

After an out if order listen a daily offering that disappointed Beauty and the Beat provided a refreshing upbeat. I don’t expect the Go-Go’s to become something to return to regularly ut did add at least Our Lips are Sealed to my never ending favorites playlist

Breezy power pop, pleasant enough.

Second listen to this this year and I slightly preferred it this time around but overall just thought it was a little dull

Pretty dreadful but far better than most of the albums we’ve had by artists I’d never heard an album by previously, just about gets in towards the bottom of the two stars. Tom.

Meh its alright

Fairly route 1 & predictable. Nice enough. Poppy. Awful lyrics. Gave us Belinda Carlisle so props for that, but not anyrhing to write home about. B52's came on right after this album. They did this sorta thing but about 52 times better

OK..

Really, the Go-Go's are on here? It's a fine album I guess and it is still well received. Good for the era and for that kind of music.

Valeu a escuta

Not quite my tempo

This one felt bad to listen to. The music isn't bad, just annoying.

annoyingly 80s

Like it more than I thought I would. Some good tracks but over all a bit too pop musicy for me. Needs to be 2/5 as I probably wouldn’t choose to listen to it again but if it was in I wouldn’t complain about it 2/5 stars pushing for 3

its not bad, just too repetitive

Preppy meh

Pleasant enough

not a fan of this kind of music

Fun. Not amazing, very fun though.

Well... these are songs?

I never knew what Belinda Carlisle did before her solo career. I much prefer this!

punk rock inspired but its women

steady throughout the entire album, but boring

I received my first AM-FM radio Christmas 1980 and We Got The Beat was on Top 40 all the time. Immediate nostalgia on track 1 this morning. The fun mostly stopped soon after. A fun walk down memory lane but not something I’d put on with any kind of frequency. 2/5

bland generic rock. singles were okay. nothing added to playlist

Didn´t like it.

Fun and happy, but not quite my thing. Also the album art is creepy lol

A couple of good songs, but mostly not for me.

Nothing particularly noteworthy going on here 2.5*

2.4/5 I was surprised at how much I liked it... Well when I saw what I was going to be listening too I didn't have high hopes, but it was a good album. I knew a couple of songs but it was average in the overall scheme of things. I won't be coming back to it, but it's a decent enough listen.

yeah watevaw

No lo terminé, me aburrió bastante

sounds like a candy store ft kathleen hanna

Girl Album, #fordagirls.

I enjoyed this. It was really quite fun!

Love lust to love!! Also love the guitars on This Town

There sure are a lot of performative 5* ratings here. We get it. Sickened to learn that New Wave came to America and produced such dreck.

Unfathomably underwhelming. Automatic genuinely caught my ear, that singing solely backed by drums after pauses was very cool, and then everything else faded back into chords and root notes and money beat and words.

Not bad, but so simple and not my style. 2.5

Their sound did not stand out for me, inspite being the first womens rock band that achieved commercial success - it is unclear to me if their sound was unique for the time, or I am desensitized to their sound because much of the pop music of the 80s all sound the same to me today.
