Second CHIC album in 3 days... not ideal, but not bad. This one is definitely the better of the two, but it still suffers from being pretty repetitive and each song being at least a minute too long. But, it's got a bit more energy, I enjoyed the instrumental Savoire Faire a lot, and that elevates it to a 3/5.

Had no idea this album was the origin of the disco anthem Le Freak. Some very strong guitar rhythm.

Brings back the memories from my youth!
The first half of this album was a fun, dance-fest with rhymic beats and repetitive lyrics. It reminded me of bands like Daft Punk, who were almost certainly inspired by music like what Chic has created here. I don't see this as an album I'll really return too, but I thought there were some fantastic cuts such as the pop hit "Le Freak" and album closer "(Funny) Bone"

72/100: I was hungover when I started this album, but by the time I was done listening I felt fully well-rested and completely energized. Maybe that’s because this album was so fun that I listened to it on repeat for over two hours or maybe it’s because this album is a good time manifested in a song. Some songs are impossible not to dance to, every song on this album is like that—they just force you against your will to smile and dance. It occurs to me now that this is what music should be, this is the true power of music. Inexplicably, this album can make a bad day good, I think that’s beautiful. This was a really fun listen to and I’m really glad the album generator helped me discover some of the songs on this album.

Fun album, it gets a bit repetitive with the lyrics. I've heard a couple of songs before, but had no idea they were from this album (Le Freak and I Want Your Love) Enjoyed it overall
It starts with very cool songs; in the middle of the album, we have some ambiance songs that are killjoy, but it finishes with a set of 2/3 songs that grab my attention again. Irregular, but it's lovely to receive this album on a Friday morning

Very very similar songs. Not my vibe so much. But le freak is a classic
CHIC – C’est Chic I know nothing about this, lol. It’s 70s Disco/R& B, which is not my music. - Chic Cheer – Nice funky bass and syncopated guitar. Minimalist vocals (just repetitions of “Chic, Chic!” and a few other phrases). It’s got tons of groove. It’s not trying to be meaningful, just a confident and groovy dance song. A bit too repetitive for my taste, though. I’d have been happy with a, lik, 3:30-4:00 version instead. - Le Freak – Oh, this is the “freak out!” song. I had no idea what the name or artist was before now. Like the previous, it’s just a dance tune, designed for happy, stylish vibes, not deep meaning. Apparently, it originally was an anger song after they were denied entry into a club where their own music was being played. The “freak out” was originally “fuck off”. That’s hilarious. Again, longer and more repetitive than I’d like, this one actually being a full 5:30. The full repetition of the 2nd verse and chorus after the extended bass solo is a bit much. I’d have preferred going straight from V2 to the bass solo, then the last chorus (cutting out 1 chorus and 1 verse repetition. - Savoir Faire – A 5:04 instrumental. Bass, mellow guitar and background keys get the focus. I like the cross-stick drums for the mellow mood. Great tone on the guitar solos. A strong R&B instrumental. Despite being one of the longer tracks, this is probably the one I felt was the least dragged out. - Happy Man – A pure feel-good song about being happy and spreading love. Again, repetitive and too long, but a nice vibe. A 3 minute version would have been my preference. - I Want Your Love – On its face, a pretty basic disco love song. Apparently, Nile Rodgers was trying to imitate the grooves of German producer Giorgio Moroder – who used a sequencer for all his parts. Rodgers did not use a sequencer lol. A great “Achievements in Ignorance” story. Yet again, too repetitive and drawn out for my tastes. The remastered version I’m listening too is also way longer than the original version apparently (6:53 vs. 4:57). The extended solo/instrumental section is actually quite nice. I like the trumpets. That said, it could all still be about 2 minutes shorter. - At Last I am Free – The longest song at over 7 minutes. Also the slowest so far. The verses are about broken love and the pain felt inside. The most repeated line is “At last I am free, I can hardly see in front of me.” I don’t get it. I also don’t like it. - Sometimes You Win – Reminds of Roll the Bones, except less nihilistic. Similar theme of life being down to chance, so taking a chance on good things. Other than that, pretty basic disco. The trumpets are kinda nice at the end, it’s a ten second burst surrounded by otherwise repetitiveness. - (Funny) Bone – A (mostly) instrumental track with the only words being: “Just one more thing. Remember the whole world's a circus. Don't you be the clown” Clearly a closing track to an album instead of a song in its own right. Which doesn’t quite work because this album isn’t cohesive enough to justify that. So, as my first real deep dive into Disco, it’s better than I expected. That said, I dislike some things that seem to be part of the stylistic core: lots of repetition, very stretched out songs, and simplistic lyrics. The instrumental sections tend to be my favorite, and so Savoir Faire and I Want Your Love get my vote as the best on this. With most of these songs, I’d have liked a minute or more of the repetition cut out. Still, I get why some of their songs were megahits; they’ve got groove. Ovearll, as an album I’d give it a middling rank. It’s competent and groovy, but not my taste.
Decent dance and disco album with some all timers to start it off. It gets incredibly repetitive and the lyrics are super simple, but it definitely got me moving. Highlights: Chic Cheer, Le Freak, I Want Your Love.
Nice! Good old fashion disco. Except for a couple slower songs, album was fun. Can't say I'd go out of the way to put on, but wouldn't turn off, if it did. I was ok with it..... Liked Le Freak, I want your love and Happy man. 2 - 2.5
5 Fun fact about me: I’m a bigger disco fan than I let on. There’s something about the cliché guitar patterns and orchestras and funnnnky bass lines that I love. This would be workout music for me, if I was the type of person that took proper care of themselves. It’s uptempo, it’s iconic, and so sleek and cool. The songs run a little long but even then I couldn’t stop dancing. I was prepared to listen for as long as it would go. I can just imagine myself doing chores listening to this album and having an absolute blast. I definitely didn’t care for the repeated overuse of the band name as lyrics, I’ve always found that lame no matter who does it. The tender but skillful instrumentals were a welcome surprise too. All in all this was a really fun listen that I will absolutely listen to again. Favorites: Chic Cheer, Le Freak, Savior Faire, Happy Man, Sometimes You Win,(Funny) Bone
2.5 Funk disco at it's funkiest. I liked the sound, but every song felt like it went on longer than it needed to. Lyrically, pretty cheesy love and dance stuff. I really dug the shredding on Savoir Faire, but I wasn't as into the slower R&B stuff like At Last I Am Free. It's probably a lot of fun to dance to, but not sure I'd put it on in a casual scenario. Favorite songs: Chic Cheer, Savoir Faire, (Funny) Bone

Was disco a mistake? Probably, but at least it has its fun moments. Some songs just did nothing for me but Le Freak is a classic for a reason.

Pure joy. I can’t resist music like this. Those strings at the halfway point of “I Want Your Love” have this great, driving drama. And then the horns join them! Wow. A lot of fun music here but this is the standout track for me. 🕺🏼🕺🏼🕺🏼
"Le Freak" is really a banger but the rest of the album was a little forgettable for me. I'm thinking a 2/5. "Le Freak" is such a well known song that I feel it probably warrants a spot on this list, but it kind of feels like they just kept throwing darts at a board with trying the same type of song and then hit a bullseye with that one.
If every R'n'B album would be like 'C'est Chic', then I would be the biggest fan ever of the genre. I am honestly in love with the bass line, the groovy rhythm and the wonderful vocals, rounding up the whole experience into an ultimate party. I think this is the first time I am essentially speechless, beacuse of how much this album surprised me. It's really hard to pinpoint any low moments on the album. There are two groups, that you can divide the songs into: - great songs - wonderful songs. The best way to describe how much I liked it - vinyl is on the way. Most deserved 5 stars yet.
Best Song: Happy Man. That walking bassline and the in-your-face, golden-retriever naivete of a chorus that's just "I'm a happy man" make this track a standout. Worst Song: Chic Cheer. Pretty rough start to the album. Not a fan of "cheer" as a musical form, and the use of a ref's whistle as an instrument just feels a bit lazy. Also, by the end of the song, it sounded to me like they were saying "Sheep, Sheep". Overall: The groove is undeniable, but is it altogether that interesting? Not really. Toss it on in the background and you'll waggle your shoulders some, but won't bust out and dance.

A few really good tracks, but a lot of pretty dull but inoffensive stuff in between.
The bass makes me shake my butt in my office chair, and there are some sweet guitar bits too, but the songs just feel like sparse repetitive shells to show off the great bass and guitar playing. It's not the sort of thing I would normally listen to, but if I was going to disco, this would great music with which to disco to. +1 star for Savoir Faire. I'll come back to that one for sure
More of an album to dance to than something I'd put on at home. Enjoyable listen, but a few tracks become repetitive and long.
Great fun, with funky guitar and bass throughout. The lyrics are fairly forgettable (variations on "ooh baby" and "dance"), but it's disco so not really much of a surprise. I did find myself zoning out a bit after the 30 minute mark, so I think disco works best for me where there are a variety of artists and styles.

Fun grooves and good times. Le freak is an all timer, I want your love is a nice track. Some of the songs run a little bit long but this album has enough cool guitar riffs from Nile Rogers and 70s charisma to be enjoyable. Fun short listen
Currently seeking out a disco club to get down to this. Le freak just goes wild. Highkey i think I want your love might be the best song on here. This shit just makes you want to move. Grooooooooovy 6/10

What a slog to get through. Songs lingered too long without much to say. Repetitive as heck. Guess that's disco and guess it's just not my thing.

If I were at a party, I wouldn't mind if this album played for five hours straight. Listening to it at home does not feel like the proper setup, but still, it makes me wonder what would be of music as we know it today if it weren't for Nile Rodgers. Overall good, but gets a bump up for being so influential.
Good album, songs felt a little long as the sections repeated without any changes. Le Freak is still one of their best tracks ever.

This album was fine, but didn't really grab me. I like disco, and definitely don't think it gets its due as a genre. However, much like the other Chic album that I reviewed, I just couldn't really get into this one 3/5

first half is good second half is boring
The first track reminded me of how unfortunate the late 70s were. So self indulgent. There are redeeming cuts later in the album, but overall this was the aural equivalent of a cocaine binge in a toilet stall.
Yeah, it has that hit that you always hear in your grandmother's basement during Christmas parties. You're probably sick of it, I know I am. But the album as a whole is much more than that. It has really nice grooves and the instrumentals are really impressive. This is pure disco but with some funk and soul undertones. Next time ask your grandma to put another song from that album instead of Le Freak.

It's a very good disco album, with strong instrumental moments, nice arrangements and a monumental hit. It's not an album that I would keep with me forever, but I had fun and great time while listening to it.

Was pretty psyched when this came up, but wasn't as much fun as I'd hoped. 'At Last I Am Free' twigged my repetition bone and it was a real struggle getting to minute 7. IMHO CHIC is best without the syrup.
2.8 + Music to get your grandma on the dance floor. Not terrible overall, except “At Least I Am Free”, which is laughably stupid.
If I’m going to go to a skating rink, I’d rather them play 80’s for the retro feel. Disco’s influence can live on but this album really just feels like old shaggy carpet—appealing when new but there’s so much grime ground into it that it’s best to rip it up and move on. Maybe save a sample for a strategically placed rug.

One can’t hate grooves this fat (pre-Phat) just because they’re disco. Much of this feels more like R&B (the languid pop of “Savoir Faire,” the R&B ballad [not quite slow jam] of “At Last I’m Free”) than the much reviled d-word genre. If you can’t dig this (and these bass lines in particular), your problem is much bigger than disco.

The big song off this album (Le Freak) typically annoys me so I was a little worried, but it wasn’t too bad. Sometimes it felt more like elevator music.
Maybe a little on the disco side of the disco/funk spectrum for my taste, but this was still generally pretty good: good groove, amazing guitar and bass; I really liked this. Notable exception was At Last I Am Free which went on about 5 minutes too long, and in general I think the back half was weaker, but I still mostly thought this was really good.
Really not a style of music I enjoy. Had some okay parts, but far too repetitive and full of fluff.
Anyone who blames The BeeGees for killing disco hasn't listened to this
Man this one shocked me. Of course the dance floor standards are iconic blasts of energy, but the whole album is great. Rather song Savoir Faire has some of the most gorgeous guitar I've ever heard. The album emphasizes the bands incredible interplay and leaves the cheesy production flourishes that plagued so much music of this era, to a bare minimum. 4.5 🌟

Damn, another great album from CHIC. I didn't recognize track names going in but I for sure knew a handful of these songs, especially the legendary "Le Freak." The opening four-track run is nuts, just banger after banger. I wasn't as moved by the back half but it's an excellent project and two for two from these guys. Favorite tracks: Le Freak, Chic Cheer, HAppy Man, Savoir Faire. Album art: Really like this blocky, off-kilter design. Very matter of fact, but still modern artsy. I dig it. 4.5/5
Freak Out! Love it. Nile Rodgers is the slickest dude around. The hits are outstanding and the other tracks are pleasant muzak. The former Disco legends and the latter more laid back and jazzy-soul.
I like Chic, and Le Freak is a stone-cold classic single. And I love I Want Your Love. But some of this album felt a bit same-y, and songs like At Last were too cheesy for my taste. A great singles band, imo. 3 stars for the classics that are on here.
You know this is Chic, right from the opening bass lines. It's such a defining and unique sound. They've almost crated their own genre. The singles and upbeat tracks work best. Impossible not to toe tap along with. Not a great, great album, but certainly a decent listen.
A great slice of the perfect example of a music genre that crashed and burned so fast. Chic's sound exemplified the sound of Disco, and that's with thanks to Bernard Edwards bass and Nile Rodgers guitar. Take those two sounds away and the iconic sound of disco is gone. The album is very dated. Some of the songs like LeFreak and I want your love are still relevant, but the rest of the album while sounding innovative, lags. 3.5/5
Very 80’s but still very enjoyable
Gotta give it up for Disco. It gave hip hop tons of great samples and made New York teens so pissed off they had to invent punk. This is a smooth listen but not too much too it
Definitely something undeniable about this album, though I cannot quite say what. Also something definitely arrogant about naming your band Chic, your album C'est Chic, your first song "Chic Cheer", and then using the word "Chic" at least once per song for the entire album. This list has turned my wife into a real big disco fan. I appreciate it more, but it's still just okay.

Not a fan of disco, it's too repetitive. However, I like the funk baselines, and drum beats. And I found myself bobbing my head.
I was vaguely familiar with Le Freak, and on that basis (and Wikipedia) I assumed I was in for a disco album. But not a minute into the first track, it occurred me this is more like a jam band. And the next hour was so much fun! It earned a repeat play before the day was over and several tracks are staying on rotation. I Want Your Love is stupendous. Pleasant surprise.

Sheer class. What's more remarkable is that this disco-funk-soul crossover seems to have been a fully human endeavour. If you think you're hearing a trumpet, it's because you're hearing a trumpet. And that's no drum machine - that's the metronomic ministrations of the late great Tony Thompson. 'Le Freak' is an obvious highlight, and still sounds ultra fresh. I also really enjoyed the cool instrumental 'Savoir Faire', 'I Want Your Love' and '(Funny) Bone'. Hell, the much lamented Bernard Edwards gives a nice vocal on 'Happy Man'. Truth be told, everything hits on 'C'est Chic', whether it's the party bangers or the slow burners. Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards at their peak.
A good fun short album with some mega bangers included.
It's got Le Freak on it which is a disco classic; trademark Bernie bass and top production. But the lyrics are dire and the other songs aren't great. The Beegees did it better.

So smooth and enjoyable to listen to. Love the way each track builds the elements.
Enjoyable disco music so I was always onboard but also great arrangements with guitar riffs, violins and beats to the songs. Not a huge fan of the instrumental tracks so gets a 4.
I love the bass lines and scratchy guitar. Nile Rogers and especially Bernard Edwards were so influential. Like the last Chic album sent our way, there are two big hits and a bunch of supporting songs. The supporting songs here are more downtempo, but still pretty decent. Despite the guitar/bass one-two punch, the opener is a bit annoying and the closer is borderline, so I'm giving the LP a lower mark.
The only good thing about this album is Nile Rodgers' signature guitar riffs. Unfortunately everything else on it is unintentionally campy and cheesy.

First song is literally them just yelling “Chic! Chic” over and over, then the next song is the unavoidable “Le Freak.” It’s a testament to how much I like disco sensibilities, funky basslines etc that I like this album a lot, since on paper I shouldn’t have patience for it.
Nothing stood out and I was a little bored. Also, my dog left the room during the second song so... He was also not a fan.

I'm familiar with the big hits, but never checked out a whole CHIC album. At first I found the long tracks and relentless disco rhythms a little boring for a full album. Then I imagined myself at a 1970s roller disco and it all made sense. This is some funky, fun, quality stuff. There's an assured confidence to creating a perfect groove then sticking to it for nine minutes straight. The eight-song album is an underrated format too. Would skate around for another few laps. 4*
Once you get past the fact that some of the songs are so over played and trigger memories of drunk people who can't dance trying to dance, C'est Chic is a solid album It's disco but something more as well. There is funk and pop in there that helped shape music through the 80s. This thankfully isn't some cheaper attempt at capturing a trend but something more valid. This is mostly due to Nile Rodgers deft touch at producing timeless classics.
Ces gars-là ont parfaitement su doser leur emploi de notre belle langue française. Seuls quelques mots ont suffi pour transcender leur album et les inscrire dans la postérité. Je voudrais, dans la continuité de ce commentaire, uriner sur les Teardrop Explodes ainsi que Travis (sans citer les illettrés Young Gods) pour avoir eu la très mauvaise idée de s'essayer à la langue de Molière.
Cette bande de joyeux insulaires nous propose un deuxième album qui met de très bonne humeur pour démarrer la journée. L'occasion pour moi de profiter d'un rayon de soleil, et de me rendre chez mon "Haarfriseur" local afin de me refaire une beauté.

You gotta love this. If you love disco as much as I do. It's like it never ages. "Le Freak" and "I Want Your Love" are still found on party playlists in 2022 and it doesen't feel out of place at all. Love this stuff. This stuff I hadn't heard was great too.
I assumed this album was gonna be the same vibes as le freak the whole way through but it got a lot slower and smoother than I was expecting. Still groovy and funky and all that

It's fair to say disco gets a bad rap: in the blossoming punk scene of the late 70's, was it not authentic enough? Too slick, too commercial? Genuinely vapid, or just denounced by rockers or racists? Either way, most people seem to have got over it by now and its influence looms large in popular music today. As for Chic, they remain in the shadow of their guitarist and producer, the titanic Nile Rodgers. A man who has worked with all manner of artists from Bowie to Madonna to Daft Punk, but his career really started here, with Chic in the late 1970s. Rodgers' guitar is exemplary, carrying the instrumental "Saviour Faire" on its own with a beautiful tone, brittle and bright and warm and full in equal measure. It's a wonderful solo displaying exceptional skill. His rhythm guitar is equally robust, becoming as catchy as the vocal melodies in "Chic Cheer" and "Le Freak". The strong musicianship extends to the rest of the band, and it's a stacked line-up including multiple vocalists and full horn and string sections. It works together very well, but special mentions should go to the basslines and drum parts: perfectly arranged, knowing exactly where to go to fit around the rhythm guitar. Simplicity is key, as is repetition. "C'est Chic"'s downfall is that sometimes, this repetition is pushed too far: seven repetitions are enough in "At Last I Am Free", but it's pushed further and further until the song unravels a bit and there doesn't seem to be any hook, any power. It just dissolves. The last couple of tracks are a bit duff as well, though "Happy Man" is a great hit I hadn't heard before and "I Want Your Love" is nicely embellished with strings and tubular bells. Overall, "C'est Chic" is a worthy addition to the list and a perfect representative for disco, if not an all-round mirrorball of success.

Creamy disco-funk. Nile Rodgers is a bit of a celeb these days so had high hopes. Sure the guitar playing was top notch and there were a few good tracks (notably a #1 US single 'Le Freak') but a lot of it was rather meandering and/or forgettable.
An unexpected joy
The first two songs were solid funky disco floor fillers. Excited, I listened on, the rest rather dull.
After the first couple of tracks it all went a bit downhill
I feel like I should be wearing a one piece flared jumpsuit in a primary colour. Martinis al round! This was a cool slinky album, but also quite irritating at times.
Le Freak is still very much enjoyable, everything else seems to get lost in itself. Nile Rodgers is still a legend though.

Man this one shocked me. Of course the dance floor standards are iconic blasts of energy, but the whole album is great. Rather song Savoir Faire has some of the most gorgeous guitar I've ever heard. The album emphasizes the bands incredible interplay and leaves the cheesy production flourishes that plagued so much music of this era, to a bare minimum. 4.5 🌟
Didn't know who the "Freak out!" song was by before! A little repetitive at times, but definitely inspired some kitchen bobbing.
A bit unfair: this is meant for dancing, not listening. Good vibe, extraordinary levels of vamping.

In the pantheon of musicians who reference themselves in song... Chic was chic before Jason Derulo was Jason Derulo. I wonder if his name can be used as an adjective... and thus lies the problem... I should be paying attention and enjoying their music.
Much more enjoyable than Risque... at least there are other tracks that are worth listening to besides le freak, though nothing quite rises to that level.

Wow, this one might take the cake for the most dated album on this list. It's almost hard to believe nowadays that Disco was ever really a thing. Nowadays this sounds more like 80s porn music than anything else. Still, this wasn't bad at all as background music. There were also a couple of very decent tunes on here such as the funky Le Freak and the groovy I Want Your Love.

It would feel weird to review this album without mentioning Le Freak and I Want Your Love, which are obviously solid, and the first being a classic boogie song. It takes a lot for a song without lyrics to give me the feels and sadly Savoir Faire did not do such a thing. Overall, it was OKish, not my kind of music if I'm honest, didn't give me the feels and was a bit samey. On the album cover, I enjoy the logic of putting each song title on the front, nice and organised and as an organised woman I can appreciate that. However, it's not pleasing aesthetically to me, especially the font, it makes me upset. In fact, there's 3 different fonts on this album and that stresses me out. The photo is kind of cool I guess, I don't see why the woman's on the floor rather than sat on the sofa but I'll get over it. Also, the red, blue and white colours are not a vibe. Ok, I'm done now. 3/10 on the album cover.
Track no 1 played too long will send you to a mental hospital, track 2 is a classic and definitely makes you want to move your hips. The whole album is good to have on in the background, makes you want to tap your foot and sing some parts, would listen again even possible be worthwhile for a salsa sessions who knows what the future holds! Would listen again.

Disco is always a little bit of a nostalgic niche, but this was OK.

I never disliked Disco. My biggest problem with disco was that every "hit" sounded the same. This, however, is different. Credit here definitely goes to Nile Rodgers and the bassist. They really put an emphasis on the music. The instrumentation for each sound is lush, the guitar solo for Savoir Faire was really great. The "hit" actually sounds overdone. The other pieces sound (to me) better. Really enjoyed it.
Ah disco. Hard to take serious, hard to not secretly enjoy. There were a bunch of songs that felt like they have been sampled or redone but Chic Cheer was the only one I could put my finger on (Faith Evans' Love Like This). Decent sign of respect. Le Freak is a classic and part of the fun of the album. Still, there's some real instrumentation mixed in. Savoir faire showed some music ability and Happy Man felt more funk than disco and was solid. But from there it felt like more predictable, run of the mill disco. Respectable but no staying power.
Good stuff. Love the clean funky guitar and the fat funky bass. It's definitely "of its time" but songs like Le Freak and I Want Your Love are certifiable classics. I wouldn't go out of my way to listen, but I definitely enjoyed it.

It's very camp disco. Not really my thing. It's good for what it is. Le Freak is a high tempo fun hit but in the first half of the album, Happy Man is the strongest track with a sort of Madnessesque hook. The good - Happy man.

I liked this more than I thought I would. I was only familiar with Le Freak going in, but there is so much more to offer on this album. The bounce of the 70s funk and disco drives this record. I even enjoyed the ballads that are sprinkled in. "I Want Your Love" is a really fun song that will go into my rotation.
It's... okay? I know there is a disco revival currently going on, and disco had a huge stigma for a long time, but I find it hard to really feel one way or another about it. For me, disco is to funk and soul what yacht rock is to prog rock. There are some cool bass lines here, but the songs just kind of drag on without much in the way of a climax. I've heard a lot worse (including on this list), but I'm not running out to buy a pair of roller skates anytime soon.

GROOVE. Le Freak is a great time. The bass tone is great, and the singles kick. I don't think there is enough variety to make it a 5 star, but I thoroughly enjoyed this. At Last I Am Free lingers longer than it should, but being a ballad i guess that's just a personal preference. [Funny] Bone is a good track.

Eh, disco like this is pretty one note to my ear, so a whole album of it all blends together even if it's pretty good overall.

Was expecting more from this. I used to have a Chic best of cd that I quite enjoyed. Was looking forward to exploring some deep cuts. But this is basically Le Freak (plus At Last I Am Free) and some filler. 5/10
Impressed by this album. Didn’t expect much of it going in but hearing chic cheer the song had a good beat and was grooving. Le freak has either been sampled or used in movies it sounded very familiar. The rest of the album was pretty decent and overall better than I expected. 6.5/10
Second and the most successful Chic's album. The 78's mix of disco, funk and R&B. Not my kind of music but I enjoyed the guitar and bass lines.

I Chic provengono quel periodo degli anni '70 durante la quale praticamente l'umanità ha subito il fenomeno funk/disco-dance. Li trovo sfiziosi e divertenti ma molto limitati. Le freak e I want your love le conoscevo già e penso che siano le uniche due canzoni valide dell'album. Il resto è abbastanza anonimo. Voto 2 citando l'ultima traccia : "Just one more thing Remember the whole world's a circus Don't you be the clown"
Sono un gruppo sicuramente molto divertente che in effetti ha dato vita a numerosi tormentoni. Io ho sempre avuto qualche problema con la disco perché è un genere forse pensato meno per l'ascolto. Musicalmente chiaramente siamo ad alti livelli, certe linee di basso sono veramente una goduria e farebbero muovere il culo a chiunque. Volevo dare un quattro fino a metà disco perché ho apprezzato davvero molto "Savoir Faire" e "I Want Your Love". Purtroppo però "At Last I Am Free" ha affossato tutto con il suo essere ballatona '70 ma protratta per 7 minuti. Forse sulla pista da ballo aveva un senso ma all'ascolto è stata una mezza agonia. Per questo motivo direi un 3.5 che non mi sento di promuovere.
Secondo me le freak è un pezzo un pò pacchiano, scontato e tutto il resto ma alla fine quando lo senti non puoi non esaltarti. Però il resto del disco l'ho trovato brutto, spesso con pezzi troppo lunghi per un ascolto casuale e con un sound patinato. Insomma si regge un pò troppo sul singolo questo disco, anche se molti pezzi penso abbiano avuto un'influenza grossa anche sulla disco degli anni moderni.

Pretty groovy! Very classic disco sound, with a few definite earworms in there. I Want Your Love was probably my favorite track. I would give it 3.5, but I don't see myself listening to this for enjoyment (unless I'm at a roller rink).

well i know 'le freak' thats it. its not a live album right? nice nice start. this is disco music right. well intro got old about halfway through but here is the hit i guess. third songs nice, surprised there were no lyrics at all, Spotify lyrics were showing something i wonder if there's another version or where musicxmatch got the lyrics from lol. fourth songs nice but im already bored of this sound. whole album flows weird. 'i want your love' is the other (smaller) hit i think. 'at last i am free' is very nice, going to my playlist for songs over 7 min long. im done and im merely whelmed.

Groovy for sure, but fairly repetitive with very little variety. The songs could have been cut in half and nothing would have been lost. The worst song on this album, "At Last I Am Free" is the longest at over 7 minutes, and it did not deserve the fire bass runs it featured. I did enjoy the vibe, though, since disco strings are my aesthetic, but I wouldn't listen to this again. Listen to "Le Freak" and call it a day.

Big old funky disco vibes. Nile Rodgers is a legend and this album proves why. Knew a couple of songs going into this album but the second half of the album had some wonderful new treats. However, it’s not an album I’d see myself sitting down and listening all the way through, the stand outs make the album but it isn’t necessarily consistent.

The aesthetic of this album is so beautiful. It has a rich old-school sound that is just timeless. Definitely will be relistening.
If I didn't give this album five stars, you would know I had been kidnapped and forced to give a different vote. I sometimes like to play Chic or edits of Chic in my dj sets and the impact they have had on disco with this album is insane. I have had the pleasure of seeing them live, and I will say this listen brought back happy memories. Thank you Rodgers and Edwards
