Reviews (page 5 of 13)

Le Freak is, of course, on every disco playlist. The album is pretty solid, although Savoir Faire makes me feel like I'm shopping for gloves at Porteous. Nile Rodgers went on to write huge hit songs for David Bowie, Duran Duran, Madonna, INXS, Diana Ross...just to name a few. I actually saw them in concert about 18 months ago when they opened for Duran Duran in Boston and they played a whole list of famous songs they'd written for other people, which blew my mind. And they sounded fantastic. I wouldn't have known how vast their influence was if not for that show...so I'm going to bump this up to a four.

At last I am free I can hardly see in front of me I can hardly see in front of me At last I am free I can hardly see in front of me I can hardly see in front of me At last I am free I can hardly see in front of me I can hardly see in front of me At last I am free I can hardly see in front of me I can hardly see in front of me At last I am free I can hardly see in front of me I can hardly see in front of me At last I am free I can hardly see in front of me I can hardly see in front of me At last I am free I can hardly see in front of me I can hardly see in front of me At last I am free I can hardly see in front of me I can hardly see in front of me At last I am free I can hardly see in front of me I can hardly see in front of me At last I am free I can hardly see in front of me I can hardly see in front of me At last I am free I can hardly see in front of me I can hardly see in front of me At last I am free I can hardly see in front of me I can hardly see in front of me

Yeah, that's funky enough.

Second Chic album in the last 3 on the app...not my usual choice of listening but spent a pleasant 40 mins with this album

I had no business enjoying this as much as I did. Played on the big stereo with volume up. Just a fun listen.

Nice vibe. Songs got a little boring in the end

Nile Rodgers is the most influential guitarist of the 70s, yes I understand the gravity of that statement, fight me. But that’s not to downplay the other musicians on this album because hooooooly shit, everyone sounds flawless on this album. Before you could electronically program your dance music, they just had to record this shit raw! Huge props, disco never died, Nile became disco.

QUIN BAIX Àlbum definitori del seu gènere.

Easygoing disco sound that worked well for a predawn commute. They are having fun, and it spills over to the listener.

This is just a great, fun album from start to finish. C’est Chic delivers classic disco grooves with a touch of funk flair, making it impossible not to move along. It’s sleek, stylish, and packed with infectious energy. Disco done right.

Random thoughts: * This album is all about the groove. The guitar and bass just lay down a groove that could last all night. Several of the tracks could have been longer and I wouldn't have minded. * So many of these tracks were so utterly familiar. I'm not sure if it is because I've actually heard them all before or because disco was so ingrained in pop culture from the moment I was born that is inevitable to seem like all these tracks are familiar. * I Want Your Love sounded so much like Ring Your Bell. Not sure which one came first. * I always think of this origin story when listening to Le Freak: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GzhKAZ0gXHQ

Disco freakadelica and it’s finest

Vrij eentonige nummers, maar wel echt leuk

Funky, with some good basslines. Some of the songs on here do tend to drag on.

I was nervous I wouldn’t enjoy this one from the first track but there were some really lovely pieces on here. Le Freak has been pretty well-worn over the years, but it was nice hearing it in context with the album as intended and not as a needle-drop gag in a movie.

I like disco so this was fun...but the slower more R&B songs in the second half dragged it down for me. Bring back the fun vibes and this would have been a 5 star album for me.

This is one of the best funky disco records ever made. "C'est Chic" by Bernard Edwards, Nile Rodgers, and their band truly swings and is filled with great songs and classics. My favourites include the club classic "Le Freak" and the brilliant "I Want Your Love." Still, the opener "Chic Cheer," the quieter instrumental "Savoir Faire," and the incredibly funky "Happy Man" are also worth mentioning. Edwards' characteristic bass and Rodgers' distinctive guitar sound ensure you can't sit still. The Chic Strings and horns are real, adding to the overall energy. Chic didn't just create "flat entertainment" disco; they produced what I'd describe as "sophisticated dance music." While I’m less fond of their ballads, the uptempo disco-funk absolutely still swings like crazy.

Enjoyed it.

Fun disco album!! Also had no idea they were the ones that made le freak

Great album. Nile Rodger’s is awesome. Saw him play a show opening for Duran Duran a few years ago, where he played songs he wrote or produced. It was basically everything.

Phenomenal disco album, have probably listened to it 3 or 4 times since hearing it on here. I was impressed by how much of this album I’d already heard and just not known who the artists were. This has got to be one of the more present albums of the 70s because the number of recognisable passages that have been sampled and interpolated over the years is insane. So much fun, my only criticism is that At Last I Am Free could probably be shortened by a couple of minutes and the last song doesn’t quite keep up the same quality of the rest of the album. Still absolutely fantastic 4.5/5.

Irresistible

All bangers. Bernard and Niles don't mess around, and Chic has released some of the most influential music across genres. Aside from Le Freak, I didn't know most of this album. Grateful my love for it has shown in doing this project

Really digging the funky disco vibes. Will listen to again!

My greatest regret in life is not being born in time to enjoy the discotheque in its prime.

c'est chic

Muy bueno

I was like, oh man, a disco album, probably not going to love it, turns out this is a really well built pop album from the disco era. Really enjoyable.

Beautiful polished production, not a bad song in the whole album

Good shit. 🕺🏼

The source of so many good things

Another great background soundtrack for working - we keep stumbling on these at the perfect time. This is intended as a compliment. Very chilled out vibes. Also I was glad to see my immediate musical association with the word chic was the correct one.

No other group shaped the disco sound for me as decisively as Chic! Chic, Le Freak

Disco classic

Nice bass.

Somehow makes me want to attend a disco which I can't say I've felt since year 6, I had no clue the 'freak out' song is by them. Chic mix disco with more RnB and I could definitely see my mum dancing to it. With an at times lush instrumentation on tracks like 'Savoir Faire' and a sort of Gayeish quality to tracks like 'Happy Man'. Shame the racism hadn't been removed from America by the 1980s with the 'disco sucks' campaign as I'm sure this album would be far better known in the modern day (or perhaps I'm in the dark). 8/10 Surprisingly good listen. Top Tracks -> Le Freak -> Savoir Faire -> Happy Man -> (Funny) Bone

A bunch of hits on here that I recognized, but was never aware of CHIC. The first couple of songs had “chic” in the lyrics and I was kind of hoping they’d keep that going through the whole thing. This is solid disco. Put this on the dance floor and you’ve got me grooving and moving. Great sound, great beats, great production.

Good strutting music. Groovy and funky. Fav song i want your love

C'est (très) Chic! At last I am free to say cheers for this album: lots of musical savoir faire coupled with some freak songs. I hope that sometimes you win (the place in the Hall of Fame you deserve). This album wants your love, makes you an happy man and gives you a funny bone* C'est (très) Chic! 8/10

Beautiful. Will listen many times =)

Good album.

Anne: “ik hou er wel van.” Chiel: bafu Paar medium nummers

Excellent album, full of classics. Favourite track is Funny Bone, but the rest are great too 4/5

Very fun album made me want to dance! Didn’t realise how many good songs were all by this one band!

Disco. I cruise down Sunset in my ‘74 LeBaron, in the glow of an L.A. summer afternoon, past Grauman’s where the Han Solo impersonators do a little dance with the tourists, smelling the sea breeze trying to cut through the smog. I pick you up and we head for the Mangione concert at the Bowl. Stars in our eyes if not in the skies, baby. Disco.

Nile Rogers was the man back then and still is today! Great album of disco tunes with some proper classics.

Disco really had the best production values. This is so crisp and smooth, it's beautiful. A classic album from a classic band. It's right up there with the best albums to test your new music set up with, and will also make you dance like a fool.

im getting pretty lucky with this run of albums (excluding slipknot). 4/5

Lush disco music, great production, very enjoyable.

Love CHIC me- 4.5 Favs: Chic cheer Le Freak Happy Man I want your love- stand out and fav wow At last I am free Sometimes you win

Absolutely gorgeous Standout track: - At last I am free 5/5

What a smooth ass vibe. Bopped my head the whole way through.

It was cool to discover that this is where the "Ahhhhhh, freak out!" song comes from

Favourites: Le Freak, Happy Man, I Want Your Love, At Last I Am Free, Sometimes You Win (8/1001, 8th Aug. '25, 2228h.)

I had no idea what this is and then I did know after C'est Chic haha. Really interesting! I starred 4-5 songs to come back to later.

Nice album with some classic songs. Well put together but some songs like Bone feel like they are backing tracks to another song with how repetitive they become.

Good album

The hits are still slapping on this album. Sexy and sophisticated as hell. Rhythm section has every groove locked down. Some of the songs on the last half of the record drag a bit with 2025 ears. Overall a really fun experience.

This is an excellent dance album. It seems like a classic disco record and the instrumentals and production are excellent. The bass is superb. The low point of the album for me is probably At Last I Am Free. It feels a bit long with how repetitive it is but I do still love that bass line in that song.

V classy disco. The slow ones are a bit of a drag but the upbeat ones are da bomb. Also Nile Rogers is frickin ace.

Day 2: C'est Chic - CHIC. In this album, CHIC delivered an infectious disco album. I'm no disco expert, but I believe that this album is regarded as one of the most important disco albums of all time. It features the song Le Freak, which may just be one of the most popular and important songs in the history of disco music. This doesn't seem too life-changing, but considering the fact that an album compilation entitled "1,001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die" should feature a variety of different genres, it seems appropriate that one of the most important records of disco music would be featured on there. Disco is not an underground music genre. It heavily dominated the 1970's. Also, genres like Qawwali and Raï have been featured in the album compilation, so it's only fair for an album like this to make the cut. On the topic on how much I've enjoyed this album, I must say that I really enjoyed it. Disco used to be my favourite music genre when I was around eight years old (I'm not a 1970's kid; I was born in 2007). I continued grooving along, and kept on enjoying myself while listening to this album. Disco is a fun genre and it's a great thing to play when dancing. Something that I've wanted to get off my chest for a while is the fact that I've observed that disco songs often have forgettable verses, especially when they have memorable choruses. I genuinely cannot recall a single verse from any disco song, besides verses from disco songs that don't have any chorus. Personal Enjoyment: 5/5. How Much It Belongs Here: 4/5.

Good album

Disco!

It was decent. I enjoyed it and it had some jams but IDK if i's ever listen to it in full again 7/10

Solid disco album

This was one of those rare, unexpected surprises

This was a thoroughly fun listen. I obviously knew Le Freak, and heard of Nile Rodgers being a great guitarist, but I finally heard for myself. It’s groovy and fun to listen to, and despite not having tons of words at times, it never got old or boring for me personally.

C'est vraiment chic!

le freak c’est chic

I was wondering when disco was going to show up in rotation. I could listen to the bass lines alone and be happy with this album. The perfect antidote to Leonard Cohen.

Hard not to get up and get moving. Surprised by the ballad but enjoyed it as well. Eagerly awaiting the brothers Gibb...

You cannot handle all this groove.

Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers did some sort of strange, chemical process to disco, like a penny in vinegar. it comes out so shiny, so smooth, so hard to detect any sort of blemishes. like, have you ever seen that picture of $761 lab standard reference peanut butter? C'est Chic feels like that. i do think there are a few dull tracks -- "Happy Man" and "At Last I Am Free" are broadly forgettable, but i still think they're admirable as being the smoothest you can get dance music before the advent of the drum machine and synthesizer. even if you can't love it, i think you should at least give it respect.

I'm feeling it. 3.8.

Le Freak is on this album, but aside from that none of the songs jumped out at me. Lots of repetitive lyrics and musical parts, but a great disco album

Can't believe I've never listened to a whole Chic album before. The hits are HITS and absolutely revolutionary in the history of pop music. Not sure about the slower numbers though.

Absolutely incredible guitar and bass playing that makes you groove throughout the entire album. Some of the tracks definitely go on for too long, though.

Sounds like some heavy funky disco stuff. A couple really cool tracks on here and it’s actually pretty easy to listen to. Gonna round it up from 3.5 to 4.

Really enjoyed. I didn't think the songs dragged on at all, quite different to a good few reviews I have seen!

If I never hear “Le Freak” again, I’d be fine with that, but the rest of this album is undeniably influential. These tracks have had a huge impact on modern dance music, especially garage and house. Nile Rodgers is a major figure in the disco movement, and his work here ensures that the album is solid from start to finish.

I’m a bit surprised at how much I enjoyed this. I mean, the songs are both long and repetitive. And I never really cared a lot for Le Freak, the most popular track on the album. And yet, I found this one to be very enjoyable. The production is solid. The bass adds the right amount of support and I didn’t know Chic was the type of band that would use electric guitar, which sounds incredible. My favorite track ended up being Savior Faire, a very soothing instrumental. Favorite track: Savior Faire Other hits: I Want Your Love, At Last I Am Free, Le Freak, Sometimes You Win

I totally enjoyed this morphing of Funk and disco. But def prefer the funk.

Excellent album. Loved the musicianship and groove of the 70’s.

Another Classic of its time. Grooves throughout the album. Gets it's place on the list

This was great - and the playlist that auto-generated after was great too. The only downside was that some of the grooves were a little too extended, but I know that there's a technical reason for that at the ol' discotheque and a nice unintentended consequence of easy sampling.

Album 594 of 1001 CHIC - C'est Chic (1978) Rating : 4 / 5 Surprisingly good throughout. Was well familiar with a couple of tracks that were big hits. The musicianship on this is awesome. Great bass, guitars and horns. Suspect some of the same players were on the Sister Sledge album.

Le Freak is such a bop. Couple other decent ones on here too.

This is totally not my usual style of music, but it's also the soundtrack of childhood and parents' parties and grown-up disco. I had no idea all these songs were the same band! Pure nostalgia.

It's weird to consider that CHIC, one of the most iconic acts of the disco era, released their first three albums in 77, 78, and 79, right as disco was in its waning days. C'est Chic is the middle of the three, both chronologically and in quality, but it has the highest heights of any of the three - "Le Freak" on the first side and "I Want Your Love" on side two. Not many albums have *one* song that good, much less two (or three, or four). The only real drawback is the sequencing of the extremely mellow, contemplative "At Least I Am Free" right after "I Want Your Love". It's such a stark comedown that it kind of sucks the life out of everything after it; it should be the last song on the album.

Very nice and melodious.

Es un discazo con todas las letras. Un funky-disco proto 80s.

Big sounds. Smooth listens. Beautiful harmonies.

Great album. Great reflection of a true disco album. All the songs are great. At 8 songs, this album is perfect for a little touch of disco in the day without drowning in endless songs. I Want Your Love, Savoir Faire and Chic Cheer are standouts

Great album. And not just disco. For example, I love the vibe and the guitar on "Savoir Fare". Some solid R&B grooves on various tracks. But yes, the only epic song is "Le Freak", so I'm giving it 4 stars, not 5, but still a great album. Not just the disco.

I used to look down on everyhing with even a whiff of Disco - new wave and other cool music was where it's at! Getting older I no longer care, I listen to everything and anything, as long as it is good music. Chic has definitely been added to that list! I started to appreciate them when I started playing the bass. I'm an extremely poor bassist but I know a good bassline when I hear it and Bernard Edwards' are the best ever. Just genius. I could happily listen to just the rhythm section of any Chic song, the basics are all there and it would take rubbish musicians to completely mess songs with that good a foundation. Luckily, Rodgers' guitar is more than fine. The vocals, alright, but I couldn't care less. Very close to 5* even though Disco still isn't really my thing. My only minor nitpick is that the variation on the album isn't that great (within and between songs), they found a 'recipe' and follow it throughout. I'm never suprised by a sudden creative twist. Still an excellent album.

Didn't expect so much instrumental jams!

Funky.

I didn't recognise the name but I recognised plenty of the songs. This was great, maybe I'm a disco guy? I'll definitely listen again

8/10. Great album. It does start off hotter than it concludes, but still added most the songs to the playlist.

Lekker discotheek Toko dixo vibes Gratis koe

Really great. Such an easy listen. As disco goes, best album on this list so far. An easy 4

Wow, this is a great find - I don't think I knew this band existed despite knowing a couple of tracks. Funky stuff!

Funky, bass, underrated

Rythm n Blues, Funk, Jazz

pleasant, dancy disco

Incredible vibes. First track didn’t really grab me that much. Second track was recognizable and fun. Savoir Faire and I Want Your Love are my two favorites. This just makes you want to dance and sway and smile at the world.

Better than I thought actually.

First few songs have been sampled

I suppose this 4 rating is dependent on the context of listening on a Sunday morning. It's a great Sunday morning album - terrific grooves to get moving, but a lush production and comfortable tempo that remind you you're not actually going anywhere. Just enough pop song emotion to connect, but again, nothing that's a heavy lift. I also like the structure to this album - opening with Chic Cheer and Le Freak, and closing with (Funny) Bone, as reminders that disco is party music, around a generally smoother, more soulful middle. Like a good party.

Funky!!!!!! Many great tracks, great for sampling (future thought). Favorite tracks - Chic Cheer and Savoir Faire

Repetitive vocals but the instrumentals are great, especially the guitar. Nile Rogers guitar style is iconic and heavily influential. Le Freak and I want your love are songs I've listened repeatedly to.

The fundancy Disco when I listen to it the first time loud, a pretty chill reading background when I listened to it soft

Paar lekkere hits maken een anders redelijk saai album net goed.

Growing up in the 70s the hits on this album were in constant radio airplay so they’re imbedded in my brain. Some nice guitar on this.

Ah high school memories. 😊

This is sooooo much fun, and the groovy bass lines do not stop for a second! So chic!

Groovy and fun!

one of the goat of all time sounds !! always loved this band but not my fav album

Top quality disco from Nile Rodgers.

This album was so much fun. Had a great time doing the dishes and tidying up today Favorites: "Chic Cheer", "Le Freak", "Savoir Faire", "I Want Your Love"

Very funky and groovy album. No song is bad, though there are some that are stronger than others. Still, very even and high standard throughout the record. Solid 4.

Super smooth and catchy tunes all over this. Enjoyed.

Chic Cheer // Le Freak // Savoir Faire // I Want Your Love // Sometimes You Win //

Rating: 7.5/10 Three fantastic songs and the rest are good enough to hold it down. So funky. Choice cuts: Le Freak, Savoir Flaire, I Want Your Love

Positiivinen yllätys! Tuttuja sample-biisejä, letkeältä ralleja ja hyvää musisointia. Pitää kuunnella vielä uudelleen ja lisää.

Would listen to Nile Rogers fall into his guitar in the night. This freakin rules.

01) Chic Cheer - 8,5 02) Le Freak - 9,5 03) Savoir Faire - 8,5 04) Happy Man - 8,5 05) I Want Your Love - 9,5 06) At Last I Am Free - 8,0 07) Sometimes You Win - 8,5 08) (Funny) Bone - 8,0 TOTAL: 8,63 (86/100) Current ranking: 51/284

This was cool as hell. Also Chic Cheer containing the sample for Be Faithful (at least I think) made this an instant like. Every song had something I liked, it blurs together a little bit, but how can you get upset at something this fun?

These folks know how to find a groove and stay in it. Sometimes too long but with an album this funky it’s hard to complain!

A great little funky listen, but it's hard for an album not to be great OR funky when Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards are behind it. Lyrically, pretty inconsequential, but that's not what this is going for. This is dance music to shake your ass to, and it succeeds very well in that regard.

Disco is a genre sorely unappreciated by the general population, and I was wishin' and hopin' that Nile Rodgers would appear on this list! C'est Chic is everything and more. "Le Freak" is iconic by itself for good reason, but the other songs aren't flat or uninteresting. The entire album has great beats and is so smooth. It's even a great example of the intersection of disco, funk, and R&B. I love that there's an instrumental too! "Savoir Faire" brings such a chill vibe. The horns and strings in particular gave extra volume to already great songs. And honestly, this album was just fun. Chic didn't take themselves seriously, especially with that spoken outro in "(Funny) Bone" closing out the album. A worthy addition.

Chic has quite the reputation when it comes to "Le Freak", their most well known song. That song seems to be synonymous with campy disco and nearly defines the entire genre altogether in a lot of people's minds. And campy though "Le Freak" may be, it's still a hands down jam. But really, this album offers a lot more than just "Le Freak". It is a stellar disco album that also straddles a line between exceptional funk and R&B. And while I consider all disco music pretty easy to listen to and get into, I find this album to be extra smooth and polished. If I had to recommend disco to someone for the first time, this album would be up there. Probably about a 3.5 for me, gonna round it up!

Very influential and funky record.

C'est Chic is the second album from Chic, and the most commercially successful of the band's work. It includes the band's first potential "one-hit," "Le Freak," and another hit single, "I Want Your Love." Chic was possibly the best band of the disco era, and C'est Chic is potentially the best album of that genre.

Verrassend

chic doesn't get credit for being sort of an art project more than a hit machine. its much more congenial to group Nile Rodgers with cold krautrock avant-gardists and conceptual artists. chic was an experiment in personality-less music, not that the music has no personality but that it's monolithic with no central personality to attach everything to (cf Donna Summer or Marvin Gaye - even groups like Funkadelic are about personalities taking turns rather than the subsummation of personality itself). that's nothing like black popular music of the time, and that fact has been lost with how ubiquitous shit like Le Freak or Good Times ended up becoming. the whole album has this huge, chrome sheen to it. it isn't warm-sounding, and it feels like it's being beamed to you from a funky spaceship through like five enormously thick panes of glass. its no wonder disco imploded soon after chic because it reached its conceptual apotheosis; where else is there to go for a music premised on repetition and massed crowds if not complete effacement of identity itself?

Probably the greatest disco album of all time. Filled with amazing songs all the way through, greatly balanced between dance numbers and ballads. Key tracks: Chic Cheer Le Freak I Want Your Love At Last I Am Free

This is great! I had not realized that CHIC was "that band" on several of the songs. It is not deep or political, socially conscious or meaningful, but it is very fun! It is actually amazingly fun! If you just want to be happy this should be added to anyone's playlist.

Solid disco fun

Solid funk album with a few hit singles

Brought me back to my teen years. Yeah I’m old. So what?! lol

Mein Favorit, “At Last I Am Free”, bringt eine besondere emotionale Tiefe in das Album.

Groovy baby

The name of the album is the review.

I liked the upbeat stuff, but really not into the slow stuff. More good than bad, I liked it.

Fun and super listen able

Very fun Big fan of any artist that makes sure you know they are

You'd have to have been living under a rock for the last 50 years to not have Chic indoctrinated into your consciousness. Familiar, and toe-tapping chic-ness.

Classic, foundational disco. Disco isn't really my thing but I did enjoy this.

Can you call funky classic these days? It feels like that to me. Easy to listen to, though at least one of the songs could benefit from some more lyrics than just repeating pretty much one phrase over and over.

As others have noted, it’s good disco music with some great instrumentation, but every song is too long. Which is honestly pretty standard for disco. I mean, Rasputin feels about an hour long, so I think this is par for the course

Very entertaining and great fun to listen to.

I wasnt expecting it to go that hard, genuinely very fun front to back. It's very well executed

not my scene at all but it’s still genius

Wonderful surprise. I've always thought of this as a "silly disco album" + "Freak Out", but it is actually a great album. Really loved the "orchestral landscapes" that enhance the rhythm vibe. Awesome!

Interesting that the genres don't include disco. This one definitely rises above its peers for me. So groovy. So tight. Those bass lines alone earn a star. I had I Want Your Love on repeat for a while. Really love it when artists give a song plenty of room to breathe. Pleasantly surprised 🙂

Let’s not talk about this as disco (which one thinks history will be relatively kind to, or at least more so than many haters / demolitioners might expect) but rather as smooth and sophisticated R&B inflected pop. The beats and grooves lilt and then elevate, make one tap one’s toes and then toggle one’s head. And isn’t the tempo sort of refreshing to the much darker, closed-off and frenetic paces of house, EDM and more recent vintages of (mere) dance music. This is infectious pop, with more soul and melancholia than is commonly recognized. The bass groove into the bank of horns, into the hustling guitar riff, and the return of the bells (plus strings most elegant) on “I Want Your Love” is so good (understated, too) and rewards careful listening. “Savoir Fair” is awesomely hip, swingingly melancholic, a most memorable groove. This is not an extremely disco record; it's an extremely good record period.

Fun listen that reminded me of all the sampling of theirs and similar music. I would listen to this again end to end which I don’t say about many of these albums.

A melhor música considero que tenha sido a I Want your Love. Nota: 7/10 Data: 21/06/2024

Konsistenter Disco dänce, savoir faire fällt angenehm raus

Classic disco

I had looked up Chic after looking up a bunch of Nile Rogers after the release of Random Access Memories. Tapping my toes listening to this record, these songs were sooooo long though. Great album, at best incredible, at worst a little repetitive.

funky at times and chill at times. this exceeded expectations

Upbeat album, le freak is such a masterpiece!

This one really captures Chic's energy, kicking it off with a live one. Chic is are legends of the dance floor, bringing jazz guitar chords and bass gymnastics into the disco space, and all of this is on display in this collection. Chic is kind of like Van Halen in one way, almost every track is pure fire.. but you don't want to hear them pull out a ballad. If Chic were more comparable to say, AC/DC, we wouldn't have tracks like the 7+ minute "At Last I Am Free" which really panders to the R&B dial but in a wholly ineffective way. It's fortunate that the rest of it more than makes up for that. Nile & Bernard forever.

Most any criticism I would have toward this album is toward Disco in general. In my opinion they are the best thing to come out of disco, the playing is super tight and the string arrangements which are normally super cheesy in disco sounds pretty fresh here.

Iconic funk, enjoyable but not necessarily the best. That said, undeniably an album everyone should listen to before they die. It feels fundamental.

Finally, something that isn't Br*tish.

I think this is the platonic ideal of disco. If I loved disco more this would be a 5*. I do really like it though.

If I were lazy, then I would just copy and paste my view of Risque in this space. That's not a bad thing. Bernard Edwards is still a highlight on bass and this is one of the few times in my life that I really pay attention to nearly everything the bassist is playing. It's like a lead guitar in some ways and the rhythm guitar in other ways. I have no idea why I enjoy his bass playing so much, but dammit, I do. I don't like disco and the songs are still too long. Again cocaine makes time go by faster and so no one wants to dance to Le Freak for only four minutes. I also knew I Want Your Love and it's also a jam. Even the instrumentals are interesting. The one nitpick I may have is C'est Chic is so similar to Risque that I am not sure both albums should be in the book. I would have preferred maybe the soundtrack to Saturday Night Fever being in. Sure, I know soundtracks (and compilations) are not supposed to be in the book, but this rule has been broken a few times already.

Nice!!

Musically this album is great - that bass is grooving.

finally, some music with flavor

Throughly enjoyable funky disco

At last I am free god

Solidisimo 8 que se ganó el álbum nashe

Some absolute jams on this, dudes could play

Super fun disco

Mucho más que Le freak

i have been listening to these albums while commuting and while working so it makes sense that i like the ones that sound good. i don't really pay much attention to the lyrics which is probably why i didn't care for the dylan album and i loved this one.

Classic from funk disko pioneers.

I hated it in 78. C'mon, it was disco! You were supposed to hate it. Listening again, these guys had some talent. Nice sound.

Sample heaven Pre house music. 50 years of relevance

Sometimes a guy discovers a huge pop culture blind spot. I was listening to this thinking, “This band is real good, and who is this guitarist that probably no one has ever heard of??” Turns out it was just me. Anyway I never would have guessed I’d come across a 4 Star disco album, but here it is.

Le freak

Good funky vibes! Some songs are a bit more hit or miss, but this album has some ABSOLLUTE classics on it that never get old.

Tres chic!

So in love with the pulsating groove and the instrumentation of “I want your love”.

A ton of fun! And lots of variety.

Super groovy and easy listening for me, would defs listen again. Saviour Farie is so pretty

Man, what a ride! I feel like I've been inducted into the School of Understanding Nile Rogers -- what a pioneer! So simple and so groovy.

- love some good disco - Le Freak is a classic - really enjoyable listen

This is one of those albums that’s ONLY meant for Sundays. I will not elaborate.

Funky fun. I only knew the hit before but this is very cool

Fun album. Have the classic disco beat.

great album, really funky tracks that were really fun to listen to

I am not ashamed to admit I love a bit of disco. Amazing production, amazing bass. There is a reason why Nile Rodgers is still a top producer. Let down a bit by weaker tracks

Clásicos de la música Disco. Muy buenos y con solos interesantes.

Didn't finish, funky, up beat, liked it

C’est Chic. Full of floor fillers

Why do I like this?

When you become the foundation for a whole other genre (seriously, how many of these songs were familiar as samples from hip hop?), you pretty much transcend the genre you came from. Would have thought 'great disco' was an oxymoron, but Chic makes it true.

Not usually into disco, this is an exception

Hello D I S C O

Soooo chic

Classic disco, catchy repetitive beats that maybe went on too long sometimes, but it was well made and I liked the variety between the tracks even though there was none inside each one. Stand-out: Happy Man

Funky fun

Le freak is not even top 2 on the album, not sure why that's the famous one.

Undoubtedly a classic of feel good..

Great album to listen to as a bassist. Every song has a great groove, but all do get a bit repetitive.

Pretty solid all around, I found the instrumental tracks a lot more fun than I expected.

Love this, kind of.. its very good but a bit too repetitive for me, overall enjoyed 7/10

Not really a disco fan but it was solid, jojah has played a few of these songs 7/10

I'm a sucker for disco. I love the energy 7/10

Class tunes on here that have sparked so much else in the music industry

Funky!

Shoulders slink to toes As rhythms sway those loose hips Body dance party

Lives up to the name

C'est Chic by Chic isn't just an album, it's a full-on invitation to boogie down. This 1978 release is about as groovy as a record gets, overflowing with dancefloor anthems that would make even the most rhythmically challenged want to shimmy. We're talking Nile Rodgers at his absolute peak, laying down those iconic guitar lines that practically pulsate with life. Tracks like "Le Freak" and "I Want Your Love" are undeniable classics, and the whole album is a masterclass in infectious grooves. There's a reason why C'est Chic is considered a disco landmark. It's tight, it's stylish, and it's got an undeniable influence that stretches far and wide. Fun fact: Did you know that some folks reckon this album even helped shape the sound of the Talking Heads? David Byrne and company were certainly dipping their toes into the disco pool around this time, and C'est Chic's brand of funky sophistication likely played a part. Now, this isn't just mindless dance music. Chic throws in some ballads and slower jams to keep things interesting, showcasing their versatility. But make no mistake, the heart of this album lies in those irresistible grooves. So, put on your dancing shoes, crank up the volume, and prepare to get down with C'est Chic. Just be careful not to sweat too much – did you know that some frogs absorb water through their skin? Hydration is important, even on the dance floor! In all seriousness, C'est Chic is a phenomenal album, a true testament to the power of a good groove, and easily earns a solid 4 out of 5 stars.

I have to admit to having a very big soft spot for '70s era disco/soul/funk. I Did not previously know any of this except Le Freak, which was on regular rotation at the roller rink when I was under 10. The slow burning ballads with the sexy vibe aren't my favorite, but the faster, funkier stuff make the album well worth the listen.

Lyrics not complicated, but the talent is on show.

very good, very funky

Super groovy. An iconic band that I never knew was this good

Timeless music

Jazzy/R&B disco

Very funky, very groovy, great bass playing Top tracks: Le Freak, I Want Your Love

Working at my standing desk and dancing through my workday. Still wish they had paid more attention to lyrics, but this is funky positive music and I like it.

I had this album on 8 track. Obviously bought it for track 2. Brought me right back to that corner desk I sat at. I had to listen to this on the down low bc I was becoming a Beatlemaniac and my brother started wearing those “Disco Sucks” pins that were the rage in bumfuck NJ. Such joy to blast this whole album loud and proud today. Disco fucking rocks!

A fun album, I can see why it was included.

the whole world's a circus, don't you be the clown

Singles stood out strong; "Sometimes You Win" was the best song I hadn't heard before. Ciao!

I once read Nile Rogers and Bernard Edwards conceived of Chic as being suave and sophisticated, taking inspiration from Roxy Music. It is certainly elegant funk, and the influence is hard to overstate. I really dug it.

I love the different layers to each track, despite relatively straightforward beats and easy lyrics the songs have so many elements to them that build upon each other. The album is also a real influence on the Persona 5, which has one of the best modern video game scores.

Loved this disco throw back. The horns, guitar, and vocals were great.

Iconic tunes, setting musical trends for years to come

Godt album!

funky. slay.

Solid. Strong representative of its time. 4.2.

theres some beautiful songs here

How can you not love this

Respect!

Cocaine fueled; they were on that good shit making this album. It's a fucken banger.

I actually knew a few songs because in the 70's. I'd be out dancing. I did not know the group Chic.

Thought it was gonna be in french. I really enjoyed this album I thought it was very funky which I liked. The vocal performances were solid and the music was really fun to listen to. My favourite song was "at last I am free". Really good nostalgic vibes and very fun album.

Really funky album, loved it. Favorites were le freak and at last I am free. Thought some songs went on too long but these aren't really sit at home listening songs, these are more for the disco

Pretty sweet

Freak out 😁

Great!

Classic! Good stuff. "The whole worlds a circus, don't be a clown" hahaha.

Fantastic intrumentalation and a good sense of flow acquired

Amazing album! I could listen to it nonstop. It's 4.5/5 because it's a bit too repetitive.

Le Freak and I Want Your Love are brilliant. Nile Rogers truly had a magic touch. Lots of meh filler, though. Not their best album.

Just funktacular. Loved it.

Very smooth, classic sound

This was a fun disco and R&B album. I loved it alone for CHIC's famous "Le Freak", and I highly recommend a listen from everyone! Favorite Song(s): "Le Freak", "I Want Your Love", "At Last I Am Free", "Sometimes You Win"

Le Freak!!! Disco samples GALORE!!

I have not heard of this album before or know the band. From the title I thought the songs would be in French but I was wrong. This album is very disco which I like so I thoroughly enjoyed listening to their music. My favorites were: At last I am free, Happy man, and I want your love. I even recognized Le Freak so that made me very happy to rehear that song. I will definitely listen again!

Groovy

# Playlist track - Le Freak # Notes - Loses one star because it feels that is a bit too much "filler" towards the end. Specially "At last I Am Free" - Otherwise, fantastic listen. Super fun!

I never really thought about where "Freak Out!" came from, but here it is. All in all, pretty fun album, and Savoir Faire is by far my favorite on this album. Good stuff.

It’s really good. Obviously has le freak but happy man is good. I understand why Nile’s Rodgers is celebrated this is a guitar album above all else and it’s great

Liked more than i thought i would. ahhhhh freak out! a little repetitive but makes me want to dance

Sure, some of the tracks meander a bit, but that's disco baybee! 4/5

Great disco era music.

Wow! Nile Rodgers, Luther Vandross, Bernard Edwards & Tony Thompson just to name a few make this a top notch R&B/Disco releases of 1978.

Great album. Already in my library but good to hear the full album.

C'est Chic by CHIC is a sleek, infectious slice of late-70s disco-funk that still holds up as a masterclass in groove. Featuring iconic tracks like “Le Freak” and “I Want Your Love,” the album blends tight rhythm guitar, lush strings, and unapologetic glamour. Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards crafted a sound that’s both polished and deeply danceable, making it a defining record of the disco era—and one that continues to influence pop, dance, and R&B decades later.

really good, with a classic hit. enjoyable

Remember, the whole world's a circus Don't you be the clown

this was pretty chill , I could see myself listening again

'Scheurgras, Van Es!'

My parents would play this for me constantly when I was younger, Le Freak in particular. So ENERGETIC, makes me want to get up and dance to the groove. 3.9

- Great bass lines, but can be repetitive - Simple R&B lyrics, mainly focused around the themes of love and dance - Opening track is one of the weaker tracks on the album - Good production - Really great vocal performances - Tracks can feel like they go on for too long - Nice upbeat guitar lines - Really fun to listen to, great funky vibes - Could be more complexity in the instrumentation - Easy to listen to, but the simplicity of the tracks make it more suited to background music instead of a focused listen - Some experimental guitar in the instrumental track - Can be oddly somber at points, such as in 'Sometimes You Win' - Great closing track - Even though dance is not my initial choice of genre, I found myself really enjoying this album, and lost myself in the funky bass lines and soulful vocals. The albums strong points are its great use of instruments, occasional experimental sections, and the great singing. However, it does have a few weak points which stop it from reaching greatness, notably its simple lyrics (even if they are a feature of the genre) and the repetitiveness of the tracks, where they can feel much longer than their actual length, as you are at points just listening to a looped guitar riff or lyric sung repeatedly. Despite that, the atmosphere of this album is impossible to ignore - you can't help but be absorbed in the groove.

Perfect album to listen to while needing some groovy tunes to finish some mind numbing work.

Classy - no dud tracks

Jazz funk disco! Savior Fare steals the show- Nile Rodgers guitar solos are exquisite. Pleasantly surprised with this one.
