Reviews (page 4 of 13)

Wow, I'm impressed by this whole album, and Bernie Edwards on bass is a masterclass in funk bass playing. I can hear so much Chic influence in modern bands, it's crazy. Much much more to digest here than just Le Freak. 3.94 / 5 stars

Loved it.

Classic disco. Engaging and funky. The bass is brilliantly put together. This is a great listen...and a dance if you feel so inclined

Very funky, very groovy, and very fun. This album just makes you want to dance and enjoy the music. Even if some lyrics are repetitive and some songs go on a bit long, the sound and groove make up for it. A really enjoyable listen

Had Dalia singing along (!), great vibes for a cold day.

buen sonido, mala letra

Enjoyed the album but didn't did much. Huge respect for Nile Rodgers and after more listens could get to appreciate it more.

Heard some of the songs before, I like the album more than the Harvest by Neil Young

More than a one trick pony.

groovy disco, great tunes, surely will come back later!

7/10 Favorite: Le Freak

Yeah, this album was a vibe and a half, man.

i like how smooth the music is. i recognised one of the songs - i am very proud of that (everyone knows "le freak")

Yea this is some interesting stuff, love the idea of saying your band name 17 times in the opening track. Also funny bone is so menacing but you must also admit quite funny. I think i’d like to give this a 3.5 so let’s round up - defs some fun stuff in there and some absolutely classics c’est as they say ‘chic’

In hindsight way more disco should be on this list - as we look back on it and the movement it actually was vs the racial homophobic backlash. This album should be up there with others like Donna Summer and EWF.

ganz witzig

Flawlessly produced and performed, this album would be a five star banger if it weren’t for a couple of duds on side two (especially “At Last I am Free”).

Niles Rogers . Classy disco incoming :) one could even say that’s Chic La freak is a dance floor filling banger . Beloved of Wedding Dj the world over .

Disco..Like it

Not a new listen, but definitely an enjoyable classic.

Very funky feeling album and an enjoyable listen overall. Great baseline vocals and overall feel. 8/10 Favorite Song: Chic Cheer

Disco and a bit of funk at it's finest. It's danceable. I personally like other acts like Parliament or Earth, Wind and Fire more, but this is a good album nonetheless and good for every party.

A little corny but more fun than expected

Fun listen, never knew them, now i do.

Anything with Nile Rodgers is instantly a 3 or higher in my book. Saw him in concert years ago and was a blown away with how many hits he wrote or was involved with.

Disco!! A fun album that made me smile

If smooth, perfect disco songs like “Le Freak” and “I Want Your Love” won’t get you to four stars, what will? This is what 1978 sounded like—at its best. We owe disco a big apology.

Isto e exatamente como eu penso que os anos 70/80 soaram

As kazka buvau sugalvojes ka cia parasyt bet pamirsau ai ten visos dainos skambejo taip kad as jas jau kazkada girdejau bet aa tikrai pirma karta klausiau nu visai toks cool man patiko

Groovy and warm like melted butter.

Groovy

High 3/low 4, solid grooves and vibes

Classic disco tracks brought me back to my old life. I want your love has always been a favourite of mine

Infectious disco! This album was a pleasure and a surprise. Top song: Savoir Faire

Chic is responsible for some of the funkiest, most iconic bass lines of the 70’s. And with Nile Rogers on guitar, they make an unstoppable funk duo. This is a great album that takes funk songwriting to the next level.

So many very familiar songs and sampled beats.

So smooth

I saw Chic and Nile Rogers play earlier this year and it was such a fun gig. Yes, some of the songs drag on a bit, but they all sound great. Just a fun album.

As someone of an age and musical upbringing that could easily have led to a belief that disco was bad, I have to admire my youthful self for embracing eclectic tastes from the moment I was able to discern whether any particular music was good or bad regardless of style/genre. When I first could save up for an occasional record purchase, I was not buying Chic or anything much like it. Nevertheless I was hearing Chic and all manner of pop and LOVING it. I have continued to embrace my eclectic taste to this day. C’est Chic is jammed full of Chic goodness. Even the non-singles are largely fabulous. It doesn’t hurt that my European version of the album has the 1 of the 2 singles from their first album tacked on each side, but even without them, this is a strong effort. Timeless good-time party music that should give anyone the urge to shake their ass.

Groovyyy

I definitely wouldn’t call myself a fan of Disco but I loved We Are Family from Sister Sledge and, while this didn’t hit the same highs, I enjoyed this for the most part. Chic Cheer and At Last I Am Free didn’t really do much for me which was a pity cause this would be pushing towards 5 star territory without them. Top Track - I Want Your Love

Also funky! Tres Chic

Banger! I loved at last I am free! Gripe is it’s a little samey but I love the vibe

Listens: 2 Standout Tracks: le freak, savoir faire Honestly, I think this is my first proper experience listening to a disco album, and I am also pretty sure it's also my first disco album on the List. I am pleasantly surprised by both the consumability of the album and how fresh and funky it sounds. Also, this is probably the first dance album on the List I've actually wanted to dance to. Not that I know how to dance to disco... High marks for a short, sweet and catchy album

The first two songs alone make this album great, and what an album cover! Très chic!

Real nice dance music. 4 stars

Disco magic. Only one track on the album I didn’t like.

(6/8 liked songs = 75%) I had never even heard of this group. Didn't even know "Freakout" was a song of theirs. And it's all just so, so good! Loved it!

Happy man är grym, Sometimes you win likaså. Det är väl bara avslutande (funny) bone som faller ur ramen. Återigen en stark fyra till Rodgers och Edwards

Coole Lieder aber nicht zusammenhängend

Classic funk!

Very pleasant listening.

VERY '70s. chic cheer and le freak are both songs I recognize. They are the quintessential sounds of the '70s.

Irresistible dance music that sounds a bit dated but still very enjoyable. The bass lines are amazing.

Enjoyed

I enjoyed this album. It is upbeat and fun. I did feel like every song sounded very similar.

I like the funk

The bassist is a beast, and I love fun

Was really nice to come home from work and chill to this

I expected more from this album, because of its legendary status. Musically, it's played perfectly. There are legendary songs here, but also everything sounds like 5 repetitive loops going around. A 3.5/5

The Chic sound is instantly recognizable: those silky hi-hats, the melodic pulsing bass, and that incessant jangling guitar. Having only known “Le Freak” off of this album, I was pleased to hear that the rest of the material held up. Some tracks were a bit repetitive, but I suppose this is meant to be listened to on the floor of Studio 54, not while riding the D train. I particularly enjoyed the closer, “(Funny) Bone.”

These albums can sometimes feel repetitive and drawn out. While C’est Chic certainly featured the baselines and scratchy guitar that I can grow tired off after a few minutes, the vocals kept me engaged. Strangely, “I Want Your Love” sounds like a song that Neil Young would cover pretty well. I feel as if I enjoyed just about every track on here but the groove was too extensive. Perhaps if I was out dancing while listening to this my review would be a bit higher. Giving 4 stars to an album meant to be danced to while listening in an office chair definitely says something about the musicianship (or at least I’d like to think so).

Absolute banger funk album Wasn’t familar with it until I started listening, turns out I knew Le freak Don’t judge a book by its cover album, I was expecting easy listening or some sort of jazz

Not expected to like this album so much, I will say it is an easy and relaxing listening. Really recommend it Fav songs - I Want Your Love, At Last I Am Free 4/5

Favorite track: I want your love other picks: le freak, savoir faire, funny bone

Chic Cheer: chic chic! chic! chic chic! chic! really vibrant and fun, I always love a disco groove. this song doesn't do a whole lot but it makes me excited for the rest of the record Le Freak: this is like THE disco song. the instrumental break at the bridge is a highlight. it's pretty repetitive though *Savoir Faire: kinda sounds like one of those stock songs that comes pre-loaded on an electric keyboard haha. I dig this one, dude is going nuts on the guitar towards the end. Happy Man: the guitar tone in the solo is so so nice. song is fine *I Want Your Love: bass going stupid immediately. ohhhhh this one is a hit. no notes. THE BRASS At Last I Am Free: would've thrown it on the playlist if it was five minutes long but the chorus is not good enough to justify repeating it fifteen times. vocals are lovely though *Sometimes You Win: so many of these songs feel like they're right on the verge of being great but they just don't quite take it there and land at "pretty good". great groove, great chorus, the rest is good enough *(Funny) Bone: huge fan of the opening guitar riff. the snare hits like a truck, it's crispy fat. hardest groove on the record everything on this album is nice, but a few of tracks either don't come together into anything REALLY nice or they simply overstay their welcome. seems fitting for a disco album since it's more about vibing and dancing but for someone just sitting down to listen to it, it gets a smidge repetitive. HOWEVER...I Want Your Love is one of the best songs I've heard since I started the 1001 albums. also, almost every instrumental break on here steals the show. good album __ SCORE: 7/10 ADDED TO PLAYLIST: Savoir Faire I Want Your Love Sometimes You Win (Funny) Bone

Some head bopping good dance tunes.

Thought this might a good single + lots of filler album: aside from I Want Your Love, this was really good. Cool that Nile Rodgers' guitar could be equally effective as a five-second sample or a 10+ minute Kraftwerk-style jam.

Very much disco and very much groovy

Great album

Some good tunes. Very groovy

Probably not my go to type of music but the bass is sooooo good and the drummer has a beautiful lively sound, plays like a metronome. The rythm section of this band are phenomenal! Big part of it is how locked in the bass is i reckon but it’s not mechanical or without groove and sway. So nice. The last 2 or 3 songs not quite as fun but the players are just so good.

Very happy. And not just because of Happy Man. They fun with it

No. 10 I wasn't familiar with CHIC until this listen; I wasnt aware they made "Freak Out." The way I can pick out the instruments throughout the records is beautiful; I can understand why they loved dancing so much in the 80s.

Very easy listening. Love the guitar solo. Creates a chill atmosphere

Quality stuff from Nile Rodgers and crew... These Are the Good Times!

wouldn't have known who this was if it wasnt for the opening track

Wow! Exactly right up my alley. I’ve been getting more and more into the disco and funk era over the years and this hit. Ofc the most famous song le freak I’ve heard but the rest of the album is stellar!! Standouts: Chic Cheer Savoir Faire I Want Your Love At Last I Am Free Sometimes You Win Such a great listen, will def buy this on vinyl.

Not bad.

Fun funky disco shit with some classics.

I really only knew the big hit coming into this, so I was surprised by how consistently good the rest of the record is. The guitar work is endlessly snappy. It’s a perfectly crafted machine built only for dancing. Grooves so deep they're practically geological. Spins: 1 Playlist Additions Chic Cheer Le Freak I Want Your Love Sometimes You Win

Easy listen. Recognized more songs than I expected/didnt know were them. Some songs were pretty much just a chorus and good beat tho

friperie avec tout plein de fourrure

Funk at its best. Nile Rogers is one of the best bass players around. Every song jumps off the speakers and makes you grab your dancing shoes.

*Guy who’s only heard the Persona 5 soundtrack* “Getting big Persona 5 vibes from this one.” This one did rule though. 4.5 Stars.

Fun album, le freak was a surprise!

CHIC har længe været én af mine favorit-artister. C'est Chic er jo bare til at få optur over. Le Freak har en fast plads på min playliste.

disco is never boring to listen to, why did it ever leave the zeitgeist.

Consider me a fan of disco cuz this hits

Didn't know I have heard most of these songs without knowing the artist. A perfect feel good music album to listen to in darker times. I love the energy flow throughout these songs!

Couldn't sit still in the car! Loved every minute of it!

Pretty good

Smooth disco and R&B. A lot of disco staples in this one.

Great!

*chefs kiss* there are not enough hyperbole for this. Legendary.

Det høres jo ut akkurat som man vente sæ, men det e på ingen måte feil av den grunn.

About as good as disco gets for my taste. Super funky, killer players, catchy as shit.

Enjoyable album. Some very great and famous songs in their original setting

Classic

I was in a bad mood when I started playing this and now I'm not. Groovy bass lines, cool vibes - the best of disco funk.

I thought I would be way moooore annoyed by this album, but I admit it's great background music, groovy but soft

Solid 4 C’est chic indeed! Some of the tracks definitely feel like they go on for a while, which can feel a touch long for a casual listen, but I know that would absolutely slap on a dance floor.

Man, this album is good. We all know Chic from the hits, but they go deep!

I love dance tracks so I liked this album. It's definitely meant to be listened to at the club as the songs are a bit repetitive. Still overall fun!

A lot of fun, all the way through. Instrumentation was great.

I had already started listening to and loving this album (& all of peak era Chic) due to seeing them support Mariah Carey at Sandringham in August 2025. As my wife pointed out last night I used to hate disco, so this is a major turnaround, but this album is awesome. Fave track "At Last I am Free".

4/10 not huge on it Has a TikTok song on it

Amazing guitar! The violins and disco feel don’t hold up as well. Cool vibe though.

Did the disdain for disco in the 80s come from primarily racist motivations, or was it just a backlash against the corny brand of white dudes that also adopted disco as their whole personality? This album is excellent.

An easy listen. Disco is to modern music what sprinkles are to ice cream: you don't really need it, but it's fun and adds a nice touch when you're in the mood for it.

This is between a 3.5 and 4 stars, for me. It has a lot of "hits" and (parts of) songs that became samples or played for a few seconds in movies or tv shows. However, as a whole, the disco-fueled album lacks enough for me to put it higher. And even though it is up-beat and dance-y, it's not quite something that I feel I'd go back to even if I was looking for something fun, as I think there are other albums with a bit more substance that also do that.

this is chic indeed

Ultra-funky, big fan of most of it. Personal favourite was Savoir Faire. A few dud songs so it gets a 4

Good album but no songs I loved

Some absolute classics of funk, soul & disco on this album that stand the test of time. 4 or 5 of the songs are brilliant and it makes for a fun, groovy listen. A couple of the slower songs do slow the tempo a bit too much for me though.

Really need 3.5 rain for this. Great grooves.

Upbeat, catchy, well made.

Not bad for disco

This album sounds like a paneled disco dance floor and cocaine.

A fun Friday listen. Although the laugh tracks in the final song were weird…

Extra point for starting out so fun

Funky, fairly listenable.

A vibe that could be a 5 but Le Freak unfortunately feels cheesy and there are some weird mixing choice that I don’t love

possibly the worst opening/closing tracks ever😭 the rest was so good i want it to be a five so bad

Solid dance music from what...40-50 years ago? Freak out!

The way this album started off....I was NERVOUS, but then it got a lot better with the classic "Le Freak". This album was FUNKY. Had some great licks and guitar lines. "Savoir Fare" was soooo good! Would be fun to perform tbh. That is how you do an instrumental song. This album grooves all throughout. I loved it! Liked Songs: "Le Freak" , "Savoir Fare" , "Happy Man" , "I Want Your Love" , "Sometimes You Win"

There is probably a reason most people know Le Freak and not much more. Love a good disco album though

Some tracks are repetitive. But overall a very good disco album

Funky!!!! Great guitar work. So much fun

Yes. Savoir Faire & Happy Man.

3,5 ster.

This album was a pleasant surprise. I’d previously gotten Chic’s Risqué from this website and didn’t care for it too much, so I expected something similar from this album, but I feel like the songwriting is much better here, and the musicianship, which was an aspect I really liked from Risqué, was also great. The album doesn’t get too repetitive and it doesn’t fall too far into the disco trap of making any otherwise good songs go on for way too long. 4/5

8.10, työmatka, koss, qobuz no oha se. oha se

Not super duper my thing, but objectively a very well made album. Fun and confident. 7.5/10 8/09/25

Smooth, good listening 4/5

Didn’t thought I’d like it this much

Classic album that really shows what disco is all about from the 70s. The album has great instrumentalists and vocals all around. I really enjoyed the band and clarity in almost every song. However, many of the songs seem to drag out longer they should with plenty of repetition. As like many, I was familiar with their song “Le Freak” but it was good to go through the album and become more familiar with the band. My favorite song on the album would probably be “Savoir Faire” which gives more jazz vibes than anything.

I have to admit, I'm not the biggest fan of disco but this album does a pretty fucking great job in trying to win me round. The genius of Nile Rodgers can't be understated - that man can play. Sod it, cast off your misery and just enjoy the groove. Now where's the blow? Best Tracks: Le Freak; Happy Man; I Want Your Love

Fantastic and foundational disco. You could probably learn everything you need to know about rhythm guitar by only listening to this album. Some of the canned audience sounds cheapen things a bit, but otherwise timeless.

This is the only properly danceable album we've had on the list, so I'm glad I finally gave it a listen. Le Freak is obviously a classic song, but the rest of the album also grooves. This got me dancing around my apartment while getting my chores done - great Saturday morning vibes. A fun disco album! 8/10.

Ficar com um good mood logo pela manhã, depois de ouvir um álbum destes, é meio caminho andado!

Funky groovy disco

Idk shit about disco i guess. This doesnt sound like saturday night fever to my ears at least. But damn this was better than I was expecting. The strings dude. Those rock. Some funky fun. I used to think id burn disco record on a baseball field but I guess thats not me lol. Maybe not that bad but I would have said id like any disco before this. Le freak is a classic. What a banger. And I saved a couple other songs too. More than I would have thought. Some of the slower ones aren't really for me but if it has some getup then im down.

Really, really liked. I do feel like the songs could be 10-15% shorter, but maybe its just because im not in a dancing mood because i'm sick :( she (me) should be at the clubbb :'(( 8.5/10 Favs: I Want Your Love; Savoir Faire; Chic Cheer; Le Freak

All time dance record, with incredible composition and performance from Nile Rogers and Bernard Edward’s. The only track here I didn’t enjoy was At Last I Am Free

Le Freak!

Ooh this was fun. Silky smooth, delicious, full arrangements. Sounds completely contemporary.

I was expecting more songs like "Le Freak", but unfortunately that wasn't the case. The album was solid regardless.

Good, have one sample heavy

Love me some disco, Chic are a classic

Did not realize this is where Le Freak is from. Pretty solid album

Fantastic album, I want your love is a standout for me. Loving the disco vibes but was left longing for more of it in the the last 3 songs, as I felt it kinda slowed down and lost a lil somethin somethin. Also Le Freak is just an all timer, no questions asked.

Disco never died

It made for a very awkward train journey when I got up out of my seat and started rhythmically shouting "Chic, Chic Chic!"

Great instrumentation and production. It’s a really fun dance album. That being said, it drags at the end, and although I am reluctant to agree with the other reviewers on this site, some of the songs are just a little longer than they need to be. Don’t care about the lyrics though- this is disco. You’re here to dance. If the music world was run by lyric-cels, every pit and dance floor would turn into a Socratic seminar. No thanks!

Really good genre defining album that propelled funk to the next level

Good asf

Great at what they do. Can't complain

Great bit of disco. Nile Rodgers knows a thing or three about production.

Well, that wa ls a fun start to the week after a run of bland British 80s albums which deserved no place on the list. The album remains petty consistent throughout, is largely uptempo with some banging, recognisable singles popping up here and there, but also slows things down at times to keep things interesting. It was an enjoyable first time listen.

I enjoyed this way way more than I would have guessed. I guess I'm not really aware of Chic, though of course I know Le Freak. I could listen to that bass all day. Despite not being my thing, I plan to check out more. Must have been fun hanging out with them at Studio 54 back in the day.

Good instrumentals and good vocals. What more do you want? Interesting how their weakest song intrumentally became their biggest hit: Le Freak. The follow up song, Savoir Faire, is a lot more interesting. I like the tubular bells on I Want Your Love. Overall very good! 4/5

Fantastic album. C’est Chic! Still sounds good now and you can hear where some samples have come from.

Definetly a blast from the past. The one song puts them on the map.

Funk. I’ve listened to track #2 before. I think this track is often used in many DJ sets and mixes. I feel a bit playful when I listen to it.

“Chic Cheer” starts off the album with a tight, disco groove. It can kind of drag on, but it’s a good song nonetheless. The “cheer” is only repeated a single time, though. “Le Freak” is iconic. A song about a dance becoming one of Disco’s biggest hits? Self-explanatory. “Savoir Faire” seems to be an instrumental song. It’s a very tight knit and soulful groove. “Happy Man” is just a fine and upbeat song. I don’t have much to say about it. “I Want Your Love” is honestly one of the best songs on the album. Don’t call me a hopeless romantic; it’s just written very well. “At Last I Am Free” is such a tonal shift away from the previous track. It kind of gets a little sadder, but it’s well-executed. “Sometimes You Win” plays on the idiom “Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.” It’s very encouraging although somewhat campy. “(Funny) Bone” is another mostly instrumental song, though it does lean into more disco elements than “Savoir”. I love how each element is insanely tight on their own. Overall, the album gets a 3.8/5. It’s one of the best representations of disco, though I did think it wouldn’t be for me.

If Nile Rogers and Bernard Edwards had been able to (or wanted to) put their 1978–1980 output into the world under one single banner, then right now we’d be arguing over whether The Beatles, The Rolling Stones etc. deserve to be spoken about in the same breath as them. Things don’t work like that, though; Rogers will just have to settle for being talked about as one of the greatest songwriters ever, Edwards one of the greatest bass players. That’s all been a revelation to me because, for the longest time and even though I genuinely really like it, I’ve tended to see disco as a bit of a joke. In all likelihood I’ve fallen for a trap of some sort; as with horror and comedy in cinema, musical genres that encourage and elicit a physical response tend to be those most often mocked. It’s almost like we’re scared of something… Anyway: CHIC. Absolutely nothing to be afraid of in here, unless having a good fuckin’ time fills you with dread. And if it does, I’ve great news for you: “C’est Chic” is available on all major streaming platforms. International intergenerational super mega hits aside, it was a delight to discover “Savoir Faire” – a song I feel like I’ve heard before. (So heavily imitated is this whole record that Déjà vu is a fait accompli. What can I say? C’est chic.)

Really liked this, so funky and not repetitive at all

Chic just bring the feel good tunes

Classical 80s disco music, which I love. Chic cheer: 7.5/10 Le freak: 8.5/10 Savoir faire: 8/10 Happy man: 8.5/10 I want your love: 8/10 At last I am free: 8.5/10 Sometimes you win: 8/10 (funny) bone: 8/10 Overall: 8/10 (or 4/5)

Chill vibes

Oh it’s Chic alright

Great funk

Great tunes, lyrics were pretty repetitive though. At last I'm free was great but probably didn't need to he 8 minutes of the same line over and over again.

Sehr cool! Kannte nur Le Freak, aber der Rest ehrlich sehr angenehm zu hören…

It starts to run out of steam towards the end, but the first half is disco at its finest.

Well that had me dancing around the kitchen. 'Savoir Faire' is one hell of an infectious tracks. Brilliant stuff.

What a Great Funk album, a true case study on what it was to be cool back in the day. I will definitely be back! 4/5

Le Freaking is the obvious standout with undeniable infectious groove. I know this is tagged as a disco album but that just doesn’t feel right to simply call this disco. The band is so very skilled when it comes to the instrumentation. Savour Faire is a wonderful trip that puts the bands talents on full display, it’s almost got a bit of a yacht rock sound to it. If you didn’t like this on first listen, I don’t think you paid close enough attention, this is a well crafted breezy, groovy, smooth album with chill vibes. 4 stars

freak out!

Songs all sound similar but why complain when they sound good

A good album, I liked Le Freak, Happy Man and (Funny) Bone the most.

Funky ass jams.

Such a fun danceable album!

The tracks tend to be a bit lengthy, but the sound is cool and unique.

As you’d expect from Nile Rodgers, who’d go on to a decorated career as songwriter and producer, C'est Chic sounds exquisite, with incredible bass playing from fellow producer Bernard Edwards in particular and lush strings. Rodgers also flexes his guitar chops on the instrumental “Savoir Faire.” I like AllMusic’s description of this album as containing “at-the-disco dancefloor mania and after-the-disco bedroom balladry.” “I Want Your Love” is a total banger, one of the classic disco cuts, and now I’m probably gonna go down a disco rabbit hole the rest of the day.

Would be 5 stars if not for that corny album cover. This is a good headphone listen.

I Want Your Love could just cycle on forever - the very definition of a locked in groove. Three stars for that track alone.

Great disco dancing music!

👌🏿

Rugrats in Paris!

ufff xuliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiissssim pq mai havia sentit a parlar daquesta penyita. pero cert q a ratos es fa llarg o molt bucle pero wow TEMARDOS. and that's what teh vibra was, funky songs q es van repetint. m'he guardat casi totes !!! jeje- UpDATE, mhe guardat totes LOL albumazo 4 estrellessssS

C’est Chic – Chic (1978) | Disco / Funk | Avg: 8.06 | Favorite Song: “Le Freak” C’est Chic is just hit after hit. What makes this album work so well isn’t just how tight the grooves are—it’s how effortless it all feels. “Le Freak” is the obvious standout, and not just because it’s a cultural landmark. That track moves, but it’s also a masterclass in arrangement. Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards lock in every rhythm, every bassline, every drop—it’s dancefloor science. But what impressed me is how consistent the rest of the album is too. Tracks like “I Want Your Love” and “Savoir Faire” keep the vibe lush and layered without losing momentum. There’s a sophistication to C’est Chic that elevates it above your average disco album. Even at its most repetitive, there’s always a new texture or melodic twist to hook you in. The strings, the background vocals, the precision—it’s all intentional and locked in. It’s flashy, sure, but it’s also deeply musical. This is disco at its most refined, and the fact that nearly every track scores in the 7.5 to 10 range says it all: it’s a record built for movement, but it holds up under scrutiny. fun!!!!

Savoir Faire och Happy Man drar ned betyget. Le Freak och I Want Your Love drar upp betyget.

Peak disco.

Somehow I had never heard of this band, but had heard many of their songs. Great album

probably 3.5

Chic Cheer - 3/5 Le Freak - 5/5 Savoir Faire - 4/5 Happy Man - 4/5 I Want Your Love - 5/5 At Last I Am Free - 4/5 Sometimes You Win - 4/5 (Funny) Bone - 3/5 Average score: 4/5

Some great tunes here. 9/10

Tremendous - much better than I was hoping. Would revisit plenty in context

Nile Rogers absolutely cooked here. His guitar playing can be recognized from miles away, and is as distinctively his as Carlos Santana's or Eddie Van Halen's. This album is just a fun disco record, not really trying to be anything other than what it is, and it is one of the best disco records of all time.

very enjoyable listen and impressive musical talent!! also just fun to listen to

Was not expecting this album to be this. I enjoyed it.

Nice bit of 70s disco, didn't know I would recognise two songs.

3 1/2 stars but can’t give it three

Good album with bouncy disco vibes. I didn't realize how influential the album really was until I started recognising at lot of samples that were used in later R&B, Hip-hop tracks from Chic Cheer onwards. I wonder if it may not be one of the most sampled albums of all time track for track. 3.5/5

Saw the album and I assumed it would be along the lines of Sister Sledge. It's actually a bit slower. Standouts are Le Freak, Savoir Faire and I Want Your Love. Had high expectation going in but theres are few songs on this album that are too repetitive to justify their length. 3.5/5. Raising to a 4.

This is a fun one! I'm always down for some disco funk. I'm surprised I only know the one song from this album

Smooth funky jams are aaaaaaaalright.

Le Freak being so legendary and some other great ones on here like InWant Your Love makes the so-so songs stand out more. Still a great listen.

Lovely smooth stuff. liked this more than i expect, the bass was absolutely lovely, and the guitar work was even better than i expected songs like Savoir Faire

Great vibes! French pop! Light, dance-y soul funk!

Neat to hear some of the originals.

Holy shit the bass player is holding it down. Not every song hit but it's just great music

A great disco record. A lot of fun to listen to, and probably even better to dance to. Niles Rodgers is a very talented guy. " Le Freak" is the big hit, but "Happy Man" and "I Want Your Love" are excellent as well. On a side note, why did we ever let a bunch of White Sox fans decide that this wasn't cool? If you ever need a reason to hate the White Sox, disco demolition night is a great reason.

Not too bad. Quite liked it.

freak people out summer

Le Freak is an unbelievable dance song. The rest of the album is much less enjoyable. That being said, I never stopped toe tapping and I could imagine dancing (in the right venue) to these songs. Came out the same year as The Scream, and I liked this better.

Le freak? C'est chic!

If I never hear “Le Freak” again, I’d be fine with that, but the rest of this album is undeniably influential. These tracks have had a huge impact on modern dance music, especially garage and house. Nile Rodgers is a major figure in the disco movement, and his work here ensures that the album is solid from start to finish.

First disco album, which was pretty good and chill.

Favorite song: at last I am free and sometimes you win. Chic Cheer feels like an opening number for a musical. I love the guitar rift in Savoir Faire. Nice album which doesn't sound like what the stereotype of disco is but has very cool elements from it. It feels fun and smooth.

One of the defining sounds of the disco era, with Bernard Edwards’ funky bass lines laying down a solid groove for Nile Rodgers’ guitar licks to embellish producing music that is guaranteed to get you dancing. This is an album that you could put on at the start of the evening and happily play on repeat with no complaints from your party guests.

++: Chic Cheer, Le Freak, Savoir Faire, Happy Man, Sometimes You Win, (Funny) Bone +: I Want Your Love +-: At Last I Am Free 7,9/10

Ahhh, freak out! My first disco album selection and Chic (pron. Sheek) was a great way to start as they produced some of the biggest hits of the era, including Le Freak from this record. The band liked to consider themselves a mash up rock and disco, which is evident with the excellent guitar work in songs like Savor Faire and Happy Man, albeit with a copacetic R&B vibe. I was 8 when this album was released and can distinctly remember the hits "Le Freak" and "I Want Your Love" being played everywhere. These far out hits reminded me that I don't give disco enough credit as the dance centric music that led to many of the tunes I danced my ass off to in the 80's So take a load off, chill out, sit back and enjoy this groovy record. Good vibes. Peace out!

Death before Disco? Nah, there is some legitimately good disco music and this album has some good examples. Funk-driven dance music that you're going to at least tap your foot to when you hear it. Le Freak is a great song, disco or otherwise. Savoir Faire, I Want Your Love and Sometimes You Win are also good. I'm not sure how groovy the 70's really were, but this album definitely is.

Pretty fire I think it has been sampled by many rap songs. 8/10

Good disco

Really good bass lines and grooves.

Bernard Edwards' bass makes this for me. Of course Nile Rodgers is no slouch either.

lovely

So many samples Sooooo many samples

A fabulous album, showcasing the tight grooves that would be heard on most of the defining hits of the next decade.

It's a weird fusion of disco and R&B. I like weird fusion.

It was grand, could’ve rated it higher but like 3 of the songs were basically just instrumentals, and as I said big lyrics gal. Still overall liked the sound. 61/100

A funk classic

This was just the same song over and over again but in the very best of ways.

Solid funk masterpiece - vocals seem unnecessary

Some iconic songs here like Chic Cheer, Le Freak and I Want Your Love. I really liked Savoir Faire as well. Sometimes it's a little repetitive though.

Hearing the songs on this album made me realize how influential it has been to American culture. Great beats, easy going, fun to listen to, and as stated before, highly influential. The amount of times i have heard samples of these songs, or the songs in general, referenced in movies, tv shows, in other songs, is immense. You get a picture of a very certain kind of nightclub during a very specific time period while listening to this album. I love that. I love any music that immediately puts an image and time in my mind.

classic incarnation of disco!

En vrai moi j aime beaucoup c est good vibe et c est pas du rap

plutôt bangouz on va pas se mentir

Really enjoyed this. Funky, pretty, tasteful. Solid 4 stars.

I've listened to this album few times now and each time I thoroughly enjoy the experience. It's undoubtedly a great if not phenomenal album. Unfortunately a day after I listen to it, I forget most of it. I listen to it again and then the same thing happens. Maybe that's a fault of me but it just isn't all that memorable and although the act of listening is a 9 I can't give it more than 8/10

Supremely danceable, very funky and effortlessly cool. Normally I really pay attention to lyrics but I am not going to bother looking into something like “Happy Man” for any kind of depth. The instrumentation here is top notch and it is extremely dated in the best way possible. I want to have a cocktail party with this playing in the background. Flare trousers or be turned away at the door. Highlights: Le Freak, Savoir Faire, At Last I Am Free, (Funny) Bone

I could not have told you who CHIC were before today, but the song "Le Freak" is iconic. I'm glad to know who sings it now! "Savoir Faire" is awesome. It's such a full sounding song. The guitar is obviously front and center, but all layers of the track are hitting. The rest of the album was good, but became too familiar by the end. I enjoy disco but my desk chair isn't the place to be listening to it. Despite that, I enjoyed the album a lot. It has a good run-time and the music is very layered. 7/10

Quite surprised about the different flavors included in this album. The hit 'Le Freak' made me think it would be filled of Freaky variations, but it wasn't the case at all. Yes, there was funk, and soul, but also smooth melodies that made overall a pleasant album to listen to.

Very enjoyable, killer rhythm section

Is the Le Freak’s album

Some parts are so good and then other times it feels like they could have pivoted to something else but just stuck with the same thing. Would have loved if it felt like the vocals were more intentional.

Really enjoyed this

8/10 Nike Rogers in his bag. Favorite song: Le Freak

Terry cloth shirt: check. Pocket comb: check. Speed skates: check. I definitely made out with a chick with this playing in the background at the roller rink. Or at least that’s what I thought. Probably more so me just hanging at the KISS pinball machine drinking a warm coke in a wax-laden cup.

This album makes me want to get my nut tubes repaired and make another baby. Def thought Nile Rodgers was going to bust out "Get Lucky" at any moment. 3.75/5

Funky.

Obsessed with the bass. Repetitive because it is dance music, after all. Feels good to listen to. "Le Freak" goes crazy. Let CHIC into the rock and roll hall of fame.

Good album, hard to find a weak song, plus two famous hits. I enjoyed it.

Low 4 Fun and consistent The only flaw is that the song in themselves can be a bit repetitive

Funky. I liked it 🕺🏻 4 ⭐️

This is a great album and would be ranked higher only if it had more of a concept around it. Straight disco fury with a lot of influence from the funk happening at the time too. Would not expect so many polished songs if I didn't hear them myself. Great bum.

Nile Rogers may not be the most flashy guitar player but his tone and ability to play exactly what the song needs is always impressive to me. This album is produced and engineered so well I’d put it up there with Aja and Darkside for best sounding 70’s mixes. The bass lines and tone on “I Want Your Love” is next level Jedi shit. Classic album that I’m happy to revisit. 4.5

Smooth and sexy Disco and R & B.

Damn....I've been a fan of what I've heard from Chic, but I really enjoyed this album and have never sat down to listen to a whole album of theirs. Really funky. Bernard Edwards is not effing around. Some really cool bass lines all throughout. Just an overall solid band.

Pure vibes, peak funk, great choice tunes on here

so fun, so danceable, so disco

I played this album while cutting the grass for the first time this year and it made it a whole lot more enjoyable. The funk was lively in this album. Le Freak is one of those songs you've heard at a wedding or ballgame or cover on another song, but never knew the original. Pleasant surprise. I was also really into Happy Man and I Want Your Love as well. The album takes a dive once the funk goes away on At Last I Am Free. It just doesn't match the vibe of the rest of the songs and goes on way too long. Like if they put this at the end and cut the runtime in half, it would be less egregious. All in all, this is still a solid 4 that could've been in the 5 territory without that one song.

This album is the tits. I was not excited for a "disco" record, but 4 tracks in this had me floored. Lead-off Chic Cheer is wonderfully loose and jammy. A nice mood setter that has a live-production feel to it. Le Freak is a classic that succeeds on so many levels. Catchy as fuck with strong backing instrumentals to support. Savoir Faire is an unexpectedly delightful turn into some silky instrumental R&B. The guitar work here really shines along with the string support making for a breezy drawn out affair. Really enjoying the bass work throughout Happy Man. I Want Your Love is another single that I've heard before. Great song that I didn't fully appreciate before. At Last I Am Free is a weirdly sober bit of balladry relative -- I do actually really enjoy the dreamy production here. (Funny) Bone is a solid instrumental outro. Doesn't really go anywhere, but it is a nice little romp. Honestly I was blown away by this album. Came in with very low expectations and found myself enjoying every second. Not quite enough to push me to a 5, but it is right on the edge.

Gaht dang I love me some good ol' funk. Le Freak is a song that I could have never told you the name of it or who it was by but have heard it so many times as a sample. The whole song absolutely slaps. The bass was slapping the whole time throughout this whole album. This was soaring to a 5 but At Last I am Free, while being a good song, kind of killed the funk train I was roaring down the tracks on. This album cooled down significantly for the last 4 songs. But still a very high 4

Le Freak is an obvious standout. My favorite song that I actually play a decent amount is I Want Your Love. LCD has a pretty bomb cover of it too. Don't really care too much for At Last I Am Free. Brought the funk but started to slip a little bit towards the end although (Funny) Bone was fun.

I never knew the name of this band. Great background bangers!

I'm not a big disco fan, but Savoir Faire is an awesome background track! Yeah, it's disco. It's commercially popular, accessible, catchy, danceable... everything you want for record sales. It's fun. Good album all around, but not something I'd want to listen to every day. Yes, this one belongs on the list. My Rating: 4/5

Nile & Bernard on fire here. Not sure it's their finest work, but it's up there

This is the first proper disco album I’ve gotten, and while I haven’t listened to much disco so I may have just gotten lucky with this one, I think disco may be one of my favorite genres. I truly cannot understand why disco was so hated back in its day. I feel like this album had everything: long instrumental solos, impressive and beautiful vocal harmonies, and saxophone! While it doesn’t quite blow my mind enough for 5/5, it’s still a great album! Favorite Track: Le Freak

A second excellent Chic release. A chill jazz groove after that stellar single and then quiet dance tracks for most of the album.

Before I listened, I assumed this album was only on here because of "Le Freak" and I was wrong. It's not the greatest example of disco/funk I've ever heard but I was bobbing my head along as expected.

When this album came out, disco, thankfully, was on its deathbed. Great early 70’s disco songs like Rock the Boat and I Feel Love gave way to late 70’s disasters like Disco Duck. Two years had passed since the magnificent Saturday Night Fever. In 1979, Tom Petty was wearing a Disco Sucks button while punk and new wave were taking hold. Then came Chic. All I can say is wonderful. Ahhh, freak out! Yes, it’s a disco record but songs like Savior Faire, Happy Man, and At Last I’m Free break out of the mold giving the album a sophisticated twist. I enjoyed this album from start to finish. Even Tom Petty might have agreed.

Disco! Freak out! I'm not a huge disco fan, but I dig the beats. Makes me want to dance, and I have two left feet. As much as I don't really listen to disco, I enjoy it when I hear it. The production quality is great too.

Just what I needed!

That 70’s groove we all know and love. Great background soundtrack. Groove to the bone.

Might be bad but I kinda view Nile Rodgers as just a name and a face… just the guy on get lucky who puts his funky guitar everywhere. I feel horrible but I didn’t even know he was in chiq before I started doing the project. Theres some solid tracks, le freak is a great hit, happy man is fun But then tracks like the instrumental savoir faire just isn’t for me (however it’s not the worst song called savoir faire (that would go to suede in 1999)) 4/5

can’t say much about this other than the fact i had so much fun with it
