Reviews (page 7 of 7)
Love you, Rod, but this wasn't your best work sadly. Favorite track: You're My Girl
A few songs I kinda enjoyed. But I really think rod stewart is just the most average rock star out there
Rätt basic, inte för intressant.
nope
Your albums boring (I don’t want to discuss it)
Best Song: It's All Over Now. Mostly because of the piano. Worst Song: Only A Hobo. Only a shmuck would be suckered into feeling sympathy for this grade school, sickly sweet attempt at a parable. Special thanks to Rod for explicitly reminding us that this is a "sad song". Might have missed it otherwise. Overall: Rod Stewart seems determined to convince the listener that he's a good person. I don't know that he isn't, but its his determinedness that makes him a little suspect. Musically, it's that same "shout whisper" that I expect, on top of some otherwise uninteresting classic rock.
J'ai pas trop aimé, malgré mon ouverture d'esprit
chiant et personne n'est surpris
Hm. Expected more.
Very middle of the road, gentle, folky rock n roll. It's very dull. It's not for me.
Not familiar with this. Different to what I expected. I suspect some people love this. I didn't.
Good old Rodders. There's some good tunes on here and I see the appeal but it's not for me. For some reason I personally find his voice very annoying. I realise that this doesn't detract from the quality of the album but it ruins it for me.
No thanks. Could've been a 1 but I think its more for some lingering dislike of Rod Stewarts voice than anything so a low 2.
2/1 wrong rod
Meh
Not as bad as I feared, but it was a difficult listen
At their core, most of these songs are alright. Unfortunately, they tend to be about twice as long as they need to be (see It’s All Over Now), crammed too full with Americana textures (see the title track), or there’s just too much Rod Stewart (most of the tracks).
alright
Not the worst, but I should've rated the Go Gos lower
Not awful by any means, but not my thing at all.
Not good not terrible.
Typical Rod Stewart. You know what you’re getting here. Nothing really stood out, and I’m a little surprised this is on this list
Not an album I would listen to again. It is not bad but just a bit boring. Rod Stewart made much better albums in the seventies.
I usually love Rod Stewart, but this album really didn’t do it for me.
This is really bad. Tacky faux blues, totally uninspired writing, fucking horrid mix. No thanks.
It's fine. Just doesn't really evoke any reactions in me. Meat and potatoes classic rock.
Gibt mir irgendwie nix
I've heard a few Rod Stewart songs before, but never really got into his music. The old blues/classic rock ballads are dated, uninteresting, and quite frankly do nothing for me. While the music is nice and performed well, it's just a bit boring for my taste.
Not bad - high 2
Good to know that Rod Stewart has been cranking out songs that sound indistinguishable from one another for 50 years.
Bit dull and dated
Didn’t like his voice
Decent album. Decent covers, solid mix of instruments. Nothing exciting but nothing offensive.
The heavier tracks are really good. Not here for the chilled out stuff though, it doesn't suit his voice. I also don't see the point of the tracks where you can't hear him over the instrumentation, but maybe that was cool back in the day.
Quite liked the title track. Scratchy Rod didn't really do it for me after that
listened right through it very generic but not bad. I didn't feel the need to stop listening
Wasn't bad, but I prefer a lot of Rod Stewart's other music. 2.5/5 stars.
Rod Stewart's second album is a rock album from the 70's with a collection of covers & originals. The music is beautiful, but I can't help to feel like it's background music.
meh
Not really a fan of rod at the best of times.
Never been much of a fan of his, just doesn't do it for me.
13. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. E no entanto, nada a registar. MotA: Country Comfort "I think I know now what's making me sad"
Alright but kind of forgettable. Best song was a Dylan cover and I probably would enjoy the original more.
lyrics and vocals weren't that great but the instruments were really varied and nice to listen to. Nothing really here really sticks out to me as great, like if I wanted this albums vibe I could listen to people who have done it better.
Not his best. Just before he really found it
Hmmm, not very interesting to me
boring af
ykw its not really my type but salute to the guitar guy those are some peng strings
1. Gasoline Alley- A simple song about going home. Has some kind of country influences to my ears. 2. It's All Over Now- I like this one a little better. It reminds me of something that would be played at a honky tonk bar. It's a long song though! 3. Only a Hobo- I think this is a Bob Dylan cover. Very depressing song. 4. My Way of Giving- Another country-rock type song. Not very memorable imo. 5. Country Comfort- Kind of reminds me of an Elton John song (not sure if this came first). I guess it's just a song about life in the country. Not bad- nice to listen to. Lyrically better than some others so far, I think. I think the end drags on just a little bit though 6. Cut Across Shorty- A good old story-type country song. Like some others on this album, I think it suffers from being too long. 7. Lady Day- Nice little shorter song. Pretty background guitar. 8. Jo's Lament- A sad song. A slow song. One of the better ones on the album I think. 9. You're My Girl- Upbeat closer to the album. Lyrics haven't aged very well. I don't think this is a bad album, but I would never listen to it in my leisure time. If someone else is listening to it in the background, sure. It's not very memorable to me- it's Rod's first album ever so it makes sense.
Nothing to see here. Every song sounds like a Rod song.
A decent album. Stewart has an undeniably distinctive voice and takes control of all the songs. However, a full album of his froggy rasp is a bit jarring. Best songs: Country Comfort & Cut Across Shorty
This never really grabbed me, some decent musicianship but very forgettable songs.
Meh. It's Rod Stewart.
Started off ok but tailed of. Rod being Rod, not offensive but nothing remarkable about this
Pretty forgettable.
Middle of the road music for the masses. Not offensive, but not very interesting either. 5/10
Another album that was just a bit meh. Where are all the albums I really need to listen to before I die???
Not great. Nearly did a 1, but some moments weren’t too bad. Overall forgettable
2.4
its aight
Another Rod Stewart album??
I'd rather not.
It’s ok but to me it’s kind of like background music I would throw on and not pay attention to.
ya this was boring 😜
I would classify this album as blues rock. The album starts off strong with gasoline alley. Cut Across Shorty has great blues guitar solos. Otherwise filled with Rod Stewart's raspy voice, which I don't care for. I have a feeling this album won't be too memorable on this list.
What does Rod Stewart do? He’s not writing songs or playing instruments so it’s all about his look and his tone? Hard Pass
Not bad, but not my favorite Rod record
Stille og roligt, hyggeligt, nostalgisk, få standouts,
not bad but nothing stood out as deserving to be on this list, some good covers of elton john & dylan
Rod Stewart is awful
These songs are all the exact same type of boring
Absolute dross
Oh man, dit is echt vreselijk.
never really cared much for rod, still don't
I’d rather listen to Taylor Swift
I think I would like this collection of songs better sung by just about anyone else than Rod Stewart. Incidentally, most of these songs are covers...so I actually could!
God damn it this is so bad.
It sounds like it really hurts to sing.
I just don't get it. The man's a pub singer.
this is so mum core but even leanne doesn’t like him
Rod Stewart has a gritty voice that works here and there. Gasoline Alley's old school tunes fit his style but I am surprised this album made the list. I can think of one other that has to now if this compilation of folky covers does. There are only 3 original tracks by Stewart and you know how I feel about giving a coveted list spot to covers. Not bad but not good. I wonder if this record made Grammy's top ten, doubtful. 1.485 stars.
Yuck sorry
Infuriatingly bland and clichéd. Some bad but mostly just fine. I didn’t enjoy a single second of it.
no
mach ich nicht an
Cosplay nonsense
Gonna say 1* to this because I really don't know why it's on the list. An album of mostly covers and doesn't contain any of Rod Stewart's many hits. Absolutely needless inclusion which I also found pretty bland
like if the make-a-wish foundation covered adult tracheotomy patients
Boring as hell.
16# I know a lot about Rod Stewart. Like that his name is Rod Stewart and he is a musician. Oh that's it. The first one that i found nothing special at all. It's ok blues, I like his raunchy smokey voice. The free jazz record (Spy vs Spy) from yesterday made a lasting impact that this is kilometers from making. Would play beautifully on the Turning Point USA show for sure. I dont know the political views of rod stewart but i imagine him being protrump, sry dud After a quick search he demanded an apology from Trump for something false he said about Nato, soo, yeah the contrary of what i imagined basically.
This record is a piece of shit. There is nothing remotely good about this record. And I am being fair. Even Rod would acknowledge that this record is a steaming pile of tuneless pitchy nonsense. If he thought this was good he would have stayed the course and not felt compelled to turn into disco Rod in 1978 when the turd ripened into Do Ya Think I’m Sexy - of course fucking not. This is miserable shit. No reasonable person would want to listen to this tepid folk rock sung by a gravel voiced eunuch. Take me back to Gasoline Alley starts this off with its repetitive chorus that doesn’t make this cover more vital or interesting. The record grows tiresome quickly because the covers are not that interesting. Consequently this record grows old quickly. I used to love her but it’s all over now. Is it distinct? Sure. But so were the Faces but they were way better musically and this record is just not them because these are uninspired covers and not a stab at being creative - although I note that several Faces play on this record which is really a set of uninspired covers with a couple of Rod’s attempts buried on side 2. Is the playing competent - certainly. These guys can play. The problem is Rod. So if you like Rod’s vocals then you’ll like this. This would be great for background music at an assisted living facility. 1/5
I listened to this 3 times. First two were not good experiences. The third times is when my energies were drained the most. This album is just incredibly bland and tasteless folk-blues rock, lacking of any type of emotion. The only variety this album has it switching between rock cuts to acoustic ballads. I firstly thought his voice had a nice timbre, but with time, I got very bored of it. Also, why does it sound so low in some of the songs? It gets buried under the guitars and makes it harder to understand. And that is about it. There's not really anything to comment on something so standard and boring.
The only thing memorable about this guy is how bad his singing is.
this is an album
Not a fan of rod Stewart at all. Not a good album. Do not recommend!
arse bumcheeks shit music fuckin tory
Nada a ver comigo esse country
It's Rod fucking Stewart. I didn't need to listen to it to know I wouldn't like it. I listened to it. I didn't like it.
His voice is so annoying.
It's poorly produced and there is nothing interesting
the vocals physically hurt me
No thanks mate.
This album is mostly covers of other people's songs, sung in an annoying, raspy voice. Why is this album even on the list? 1/5
Interesting voice, I get his popularity, but wasn't doing much for me. That fiddle opening Cut Across Shorty wasn't slouching though.
I could barely finish it
Whilst I’m much more inclined to like Rods early work than his later stuff, this was a load of pish. He’s now just become that drunk uncle at a wedding who thinks he can croon and fancies himself with all the pretty bridesmaids.
Not for me. 1/5
Jeff has opened huut of a new era
Dull
completely unmemorable
thankful for this album to pass in one ear and out the other
1.69. I tried to like it but it wasn't grabbing me at all. Good songs overall
Can't stand Rod Stewart. The title track "Gasoline Alley", is a dreadful start and doesn't really get any better from there. Repeated, boring, unimaginative lyrics, and vocals that are just grating from the start. All I can think of is his overplayed song "Maggie May" which makes me wonder why it's overplayed in the first place.
The lyrics told a story and had meaning but the music felt like an era that wasn't for me.
You know something I love about Bob Dylan? The fact that being a bad singer never held him back, because he's fantastic at literally every other aspect of music. And listening to Rod Stewart is kinda like listening to Bob Dylan, except he's a mediocre songwriter, lyricist, and musician, and his voice is just as bad if not worse than Bob's.
Jag lyssnade på en låt
Not my thing. I can kind of appreciate his voice and it's uniqueness, but the music feels kinda cheesy and doesn't grab my attention.
WTF. Maybe there are other Rod Stewart albums on this list (don't know yet), but considering his EXHAUSTIVE library, it's stupid that this was selected as one that needed to be heard. It's not. It's weak. Too weak. Complete failure by the admin.
Sorry Rod, but I've still not forgiven you for your shitty cover of Downtown Train
I used to love her but it's all over now (x36) Ah the lovely smell of naphthalene and stale air
"Over the course of his carrer, Rod Stewart has been lauded as the finest singer of his generation[...]" I read this as I was beginning to listen to the first song of this album and thought "Wow, he must've ruined his voice after all those years of singing because he sounds horrible now..." Imagine the look on my face when I found out that this was his second ever album
That rasp of his gets old pretty fast
Boring and completely unforgettable
1. alley - 1 2. nouu - 1.5 3. hobo - 1.5 4. uuay - 1.5 5. country - 1.5 6. zhorty -1 7. lady - 1.5 8. lament - 1.5 9. girl - 1
I'm not completely sure why this album is on here. This is just not good. I don't know why Rod Stewart is famous, never heard a song by him, but this is a terrible introduction.
unfortunately this was so bad it killed me and it was the last thing i ever heard. goodbye.
Never been a fan...
This sucked! Sorry, Rod! Not a single enjoyable song.
Ah yeah, this is not for me. The strumming sounds nicely recorded but this is too hokey and it's British Blues a genre I do not care for. D
I've never liked his voice. His popularity confuses me.
Wildly disappointed. Always assumed his actual music was old school, old timey vibes like what he does on the ASAP Rocky feature, that’s kind of what I was in the mood for. This was some classic rock, fake ass Led Zeppelin, bum ass Bon Jovi rip off music.
Rod had one good LP, Every Picture tells a story. He has only written a handful of songs, and without Ron Wood he probably wouldn’t have made it. No wonder he had to switch to M.O.R. (Sap crap)
Am I on a cruise ship? Why is Rod Stewart here? There’s no way this can be good. Also, gasoline alley is a place in Red Deer, Alberta, so I’m hoping this album is about the donut mill/Wendy’s part. This song sounds like an alarm clock. Does that make sense? I feel like I’m being torn from a slumber and not fully aware of my surroundings but knowing I’m in pain and needing something to stop. This is 100% awful. Offensively so. I wish this was all over now. I’ve used the term “riverboat music” before, but this really takes the cake. No passion, just boredom. His voice is dreadful. I’m wondering how he feels about this woman? I wonder if he used to love her, and whether it’s all over. I think I need him to screech it 38-40 more times. I’m a slow learner. The word Hobo rules. That’s already a win. At least we’ve docked the booze cruise for the day. This is typically the type of song I like. But between the lyrics and the brutal singing, it’s just not hitting. This is attempted soul. Nice try Drunk Raffi. This is just so unlikeable and run of the mill. Not even the donut mill. He sounds like the best singer in a small town. He plays covers on Saturday nights at the local tavern. Goes a little too long. The bar clears out. I wish I could clear out. Sensitive piano. Who told this guy he could sing? Seriously. He sounds ill. I could just isolate the bass and I’d be happier. The drums sound bad, the vocals stink, the songwriting blows. The title is lame. THE BACKGROUND VOCALS. Man. That was funny. This song should be called “DO NOT PLAY.” Playing it might be equivalent to the video from “The Ring.” Small town boy living in a lonely world or whatever. What is this manufactured tortoise and the hare parable? Two guys have a foot race to win the hand of a woman? Man I’m glad I don’t live in whatever time this is (this never happened). Oh boy, a guy also takes violin lessons mid track! Shorty is like a melody in my head that has my inner child clawing against the walls of my meninges like a scared cat. This is one of the most deplorable, not good, very very bad songs I’ve ever heard but my god is it one of the funniest. Replete with wolf howls. This gets -5 stars. The perfect bad song. Blues guitarist “Relatively clear Waters”starting the track with a Long & McQuade heater riff. I think Rod forgot the lyrics that were written for him during the La La La’s. I love the folksy laugh. Reminds me that we’re all having fun here (We’re not). I like a good lament, however, the instrumentation is so amateurish and not in an endearing way. The lyrics are not good. This wasn’t the worst, but it wasn’t even funny which makes me mad. Here we go. He doesn’t want to discuss his relationship. You’re HIS GIRL and he will take NO DISCUSSION on the matter. This is so obnoxious. Not good. Probably the best song as we have the least Rod and there is at least enough music to distract from the poor playing. What can I say about ol rod? He tried his hand at everything here. What he excelled at primarily is performing bad songs. This was a complete mess. It entertained me to no end as a writing prompt but as a musical album? Full on despicable. No more musicians that could conceivably have a magician open for them please. 0-0.5 HIGHLIGHTS: Alcoholism
This was an incredibly annoying and tedious listen.
First listen. Meh
Meh
Over rated hack crooner
Two songs in. Don't think I like Rod Stewart. 1/5
Stewart's solo debut released just a few months after the Faces debut. And that's exactly what you get. Stewart boogies with the blues just like he does with the Faces, only even more of his gross raunchy vocals and full of lame folk ballads. The first 2 are decent. "Only a Hobo" thinks it's quirky cause it has a fiddle but has nothing of value. "My Way of Giving" sounds like a lame The Band ripoff. "Country Comfort" is pure garbage. "Cut Across Shortly" is lame until the solo in the final lame. The next 2 are garbage. The finale "You're My Girl" is just a dude jamming and showing off his guitar skills, which is impressive but not song worthy. So out of 9 tracks. With only 2 decent songs (not even good enough to return to), and only 2 other songs that only have some decent parts, I don't think this album is worth ever returning to, and thus deserves 1 star. I acknowledge there is some talent there. There is energy. And they do try to get creative. But otherwise this should be dumped in the Mojave.
Funny, I did not enjoy not even a song...
I saw Rod Stewart come up today, and the heckles rose on the back of my neck... for I already knew it was a torture album selection today. This is supposed to be folk rock... but it drifts very closely to sounding country.. a genre I hate and despise. Add to that, we also have to endure Rods voice, which is little more than a pub singer. This is simply music for old people swaying in their rockers, tapping their hands and feet to the groovy beat.
Not my thing so did not listen
Did not care about this in the slightest
This album has a lot of the things I dislike. Kept looking for even just one halfway decent song. No. Not here. This is shit. Steaming hot crap. I tried, but this is terrible.
Jesus. Ok, so I don’t have anything against Rod Stewart. He’s fine, whatever. But wtf was the obsession with honky tonk back then? There’s a reason I chose to eliminate country music from this generator. It’s unbearable and grating. This album has a lot of the things I dislike. Kept looking for even just one halfway decent song. No. Not here. This is shit. Steaming hot crap. I tried, but this is terrible.
hate hate his voice. music is nothing special either but has some highlights, however soon as his voice comes in it destroys the song. half the songs seem like an English guy doing country and western. 1.3
no, sorry, but no
I have no reason why, but Rod Stewart gets on my last nerve.
Absolutely hate it. I just can't stand his voice and he sings like he is reading a poem. The looping instruments and the repeatitive style/rhythm of his singing is plain annoying to me. I could only listen 1.5 songs and then I gave up. I personally just can't stand his singing.
40 minutes of forgettable boomer rock
You know what this list really doesn't have enough of? British men from the 70's doing shitty blues impersonations. Nope, that's really just the one genre that we really seemed to have overlooked here. Rod sounded like he was really struggling singing these songs, like he was gonna lose his voice at any minute. I struggled equally as much listening to him, and the entire time was hoping that he'd finally lose his voice and put both of us out of our miseries. 1 cough drop out of 5 🍬
well what can we say. she’s a drag she’s a bore she’s occasionally mildly offensive but she’s so boring you barely notice. occasionally, a strong guitar breaches the surface. 2/10.
Rod Stewart : Country : : Billy Crystal : Jazz There are some good Rod Stewart songs, but these are not them. You're English, stop singing about hobos. Seeing how badly this mash-up can get makes Exile on Main Street look like an even bigger achievement. Why does the guitar double the vocal melody on Gasoline Alley? Why these songs so long? Dylan, Stones, and Elton John? Yeah those guys did okay, but hold my beer...Ronnie Wood's guitar tone sounds good even if he isn't doing much particularly interesting and I do like Rod's raspy voice. Favorites: Country Comfort (for 2.5-3 minutes, but get out while the going is good!), the violin, 12-string & slide guitar bits on Cut Across Shorty, thinking about how good Young Turks is the whole time
I think something was up with my headphones, as I could hear every fooking word. Jesus wept!
Poor. Not deserving of selection
Can't click DNL, but i can imagine this is a 1 star. I've now listened to two different rob steward albums on this list and have not enjoyed.
Not a fan of Rod Stewart’s voice, and there’s nothing groundbreaking in the music for his era.
This is my least favorite album I’ve heard on here so far. Most songs go on for too long and his voice is irritating.
I'm sure he is a sound guy. But his albums that I've listened to so far have been so dull. And his voice is horrible.
What the fuck is gasoline rod? Aren't you a knees up cockney Scottish person? Was his shite music always aimed at grans?
Sounds like the worst pub band ever.
Spare me.
I can’t understand how this even made the cut when there’s so much good music out there. It wasn’t terrible in that it didn’t hurt my ears but it’s just another Rod Stewart album. 1
I have nothing against Rod Stewart, his distinctive voice lends itself well to the classic hits but this album, on this list, why? Pedestrian at best.
I'd put as much effort into this review as he put into this album, but I'm not sure that that would give us even a single letter. Used to Love Her is a standard for bog standard pub cover bands is the nicest thing I can say about this album.
Not my jam. Southern rock bad
Fuck Rod Stewart
Mediocre. Sounds like a competent pub band.
A load of balls. Nothing standout or noteworthy.
skipped lots of tracks- don't like his voice and no pop singles to dance to....
I can't stand Rod Stewart. The stuff with Jeff Beck was saved by strong musicianship and writing, but this one is mostly just Rod crooning cover songs.
I wish I could give the a zero.
Turns out I hate Rod Stewart. There's just too much going on in this. Someone just randomly blows a whistle in the second track. Like really lays into it. Feels like whoever mixed it felt like the instruments were too loud, so they just turned up the vocal track.
Fuck this hoe ass shit
I thought he was a crooner for old ladies, not sounding like 30 packs a day.
not for me at all
Didn't like at all. 0/5
It's ok
Shit
